- 0:00Speaker 1: My guest is Pinky Cole. She's a Jamaican American entrepreneur
- 0:03Speaker 1: and founder Slutty Vegan, a plant based burger restaurant chain
- 0:07Speaker 1: based in Atlanta, Georgia. She first became vegan in fourteen
- 0:11Speaker 1: and opened her first Slutty Vegan food truck specializing in
- 0:14Speaker 1: vegan burgers, in September of eighteen. I interviewed her in
- 0:17Speaker 1: August of twenty when she was just starting to blow
- 0:20Speaker 1: up and become that national brand. Now she has opened
- 0:23Speaker 1: restaurants and created the Pinky co Foundation, which seeks to
- 0:26Speaker 1: empier generations of color to win in life, financially in
- 0:29Speaker 1: the pursuit of their entrepreneurial goals. Her new book et
- 0:33Speaker 1: Plants B I, T C H. It's her first book,
- 0:36Speaker 1: Nati When Vegan Recipes that will blow your meat loving mind,
- 0:39Speaker 1: currently available presell order. We're going to be hyping that.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Releasing November fift Pikacole recently gifted LLCs to Clark and
- 0:48Speaker 1: Land University two graduating class. We will discuss that, but
- 0:52Speaker 1: more importantly, please work on the Money Making Conversations Masterclass.
- 0:56Speaker 1: The one and only Pinky Cole. I love that, and
- 1:00Speaker 1: that was well, you know, I better be right. I
- 1:03Speaker 1: better be right. You You you're all over the good place.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Some people could be all over the place, but you
- 1:08Speaker 1: all over the good place. Pinky, tell me that. What's
- 1:10Speaker 1: going on, young lady? Oh my goodness, I got so
- 1:13Speaker 1: much good stuff going on. First of all, it's so
- 1:16Speaker 1: good to make your acquaintance again, and just to be here.
- 1:18Speaker 1: So that means that I've made consistent because here, Um,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I got so much great things going on. Um. You know,
- 1:26Speaker 1: if if you haven't been living under a rock, I
- 1:29Speaker 1: just closed on my twenty five million dollar raised to scale.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Slutty began. Um. I graced the cover of Essence names
- 1:36Speaker 1: you know something, stop me, I should have started with that.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Come on now, rushaw and slap yourself. Now. I saw
- 1:43Speaker 1: you on the cover. Now see I'm a little bit
- 1:45Speaker 1: old than you. Okay, Now, Peky Coach was on cover Essence. Now,
- 1:49Speaker 1: that is something you start an interview with now, because
- 1:51Speaker 1: I grew up, I grew up in the Jet magazine
- 1:54Speaker 1: and the Ebony era. You know when you was on
- 1:57Speaker 1: the cover of Ebony Jet, you know you that it
- 2:00Speaker 1: would like and she and I would like to believe
- 2:01Speaker 1: that Essence is that magazine level that I grew up
- 2:05Speaker 1: the Jet magazine and the Eberdey magazine and so so
- 2:09Speaker 1: when you got on the cover of Ebondey and Jet
- 2:11Speaker 1: Family friend, enemy, uh, girlfriendhood, everybody wanted to be next
- 2:16Speaker 1: to you. Now tell me what, tell me how I
- 2:20Speaker 1: came about, and tell me the experience and what did
- 2:22Speaker 1: it do to your brand? Peaky Cole being on the
- 2:25Speaker 1: cover of Essence magazine, the number one African American female
- 2:29Speaker 1: magazine in the world. So rigond I manifested it like
- 2:33Speaker 1: I always said that I'm gonna be able to cover crazy, Like,
- 2:36Speaker 1: how are you gonna do that? You ain't no celebrity.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I said, I am going to be on the cover.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And I knew it in my spirit because I kept
- 2:42Speaker 1: saying it. And you know, oftentimes when you say those things,
- 2:45Speaker 1: those things that come real. So every opportunity that I
- 2:49Speaker 1: got when I got around the Essence folks, I talked
- 2:51Speaker 1: about it. I got on their nerves about it. Hey,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna be on Essence when when it is my day.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So I finally got the opportunity to talk to the CEO,
- 2:59Speaker 1: Richie Lou Dennis, and I told him the idea that
- 3:01Speaker 1: I wanted to do. I said, listen, I said, y'all
- 3:03Speaker 1: always have celebrities want to cover. Now is the time
- 3:06Speaker 1: to put entrepreneurs on the cover who are disrupting the
- 3:09Speaker 1: industries that they're in, so you can show a different
- 3:12Speaker 1: light of people who are making it and moving and shaking.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I love the idea. Didn't happen when I wanted it
- 3:18Speaker 1: to happen, but it happened exactly when it was supposed to.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And I'm so excited about that opportunity because Essence really
- 3:26Speaker 1: shifted my brand to a new level, right Like it
- 3:29Speaker 1: exposed me to people who have never heard of Slutty
- 3:31Speaker 1: Began before. And even if you didn't want to know
- 3:33Speaker 1: about Slutty Began, we learned about Pinky col you learned
- 3:36Speaker 1: about some entrepreneurs in Atlanta that are moving and shaking
- 3:40Speaker 1: that are the millionaires next door. And it really raised
- 3:42Speaker 1: the stock up. You know what they say, yesterday's prices
- 3:45Speaker 1: not the days right, So it raised the stock And
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm just so happy at all of the opportunities and
- 3:52Speaker 1: doors that have been open because of Essence. And you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: that was a life changing opportunity and I'm just so
- 3:58Speaker 1: grateful to be able to have been a part of
- 4:00Speaker 1: that well, first of all, it was life changing, but
- 4:03Speaker 1: it also was a fan because I'm a fan and
- 4:05Speaker 1: you have a lot of fans, and so because you
- 4:07Speaker 1: know you are are like you said, you know, you're
- 4:10Speaker 1: kind of like regularly your regular polks, regular polms become successful.
- 4:14Speaker 1: As dreamers, we see it as being possible. And I
- 4:18Speaker 1: think that that's as has always been your your your guy.
- 4:22Speaker 1: That has always been the plan to let regular people,
- 4:25Speaker 1: everyday people know that through hard work, faith and proper
- 4:29Speaker 1: planning you can win. To talk about that, listen, I've
- 4:33Speaker 1: always been a dreamer and I've always been a believer.
- 4:36Speaker 1: When people see me, they see hope and just like
- 4:38Speaker 1: you said, they see the possibility that all things can
- 4:41Speaker 1: happen if you really have confidence in yourself and you
- 4:44Speaker 1: really have that level of drive and that drive you
- 4:47Speaker 1: can't pay for that, right like that's born in you,
- 4:50Speaker 1: within you, like you developed that with experience and with time.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So when people see me, I'm not just doing this
- 4:56Speaker 1: for myself. I'm doing this for my family. I'm doing
- 4:59Speaker 1: this for the people who want to be entrepreneurs like me,
- 5:02Speaker 1: who want to have restaurants like me, And I'm showing
- 5:04Speaker 1: you that yes, nothing is impossible. You can literally be
- 5:07Speaker 1: the girl from around the way. I'm from East Baltimore,
- 5:10Speaker 1: got lots in my head. I don't look like the
- 5:12Speaker 1: typical person that you see on National TV. But guess what,
- 5:15Speaker 1: I'm shifting the atmosphere and showing you that you can
- 5:18Speaker 1: look like, be like, talk like whatever you want to
- 5:21Speaker 1: be like, and you can still make it as long
- 5:23Speaker 1: as you have comfort and knowing that you can do
- 5:26Speaker 1: all the things that you put your mind to. And
- 5:29Speaker 1: that's just how I have looked. I woke up, I
- 5:30Speaker 1: got on a T shirt and sweatpants, and I'm doing
- 5:32Speaker 1: an interview with you, and I got big interviews all day,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and I'm showing people that you ain't got to fit
- 5:37Speaker 1: the status quo. You can do everything that you want
- 5:40Speaker 1: to do as long as you be yourself, your true
- 5:42Speaker 1: authentic self, and being your true authentic self will get
- 5:45Speaker 1: you a long way. Well, this is a great year.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Two has been a great year. Like its been clearly
- 5:50Speaker 1: two years. Okay, you cover essence, you know you. You
- 5:55Speaker 1: did the graduation speech at Clark Atlanta University. I talk
- 6:00Speaker 1: about the whole process of gifting those LLC so people
- 6:03Speaker 1: from an entrepreneur understand exactly what you did because you know,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you just on the outside, you really don't know. But
- 6:10Speaker 1: it's like putting young people in a position to understand
- 6:13Speaker 1: how to be business owners. Well, you know, first of all,
- 6:17Speaker 1: doing Clark and Lanty University's commencement was a dream come true.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So many dreams coming truths this year. Right. Um, I
- 6:24Speaker 1: went to Clark and Land University. I graduated thirteen years ago.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And when I got the opportunity to be the commencement speaker,
- 6:31Speaker 1: and I'm like, I have to do something that's going
- 6:32Speaker 1: to resident Okay, See, I gotta stop you something because
- 6:35Speaker 1: you just blow past, like like we blew past that
- 6:37Speaker 1: assence covering that what is the backstory? See, I gotta
- 6:41Speaker 1: get backstory on you because you got so much going on.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Your back story is as great as the actually accomplishment.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Talk about the backstory of them calling you and then
- 6:50Speaker 1: you really realize it's happening, because that's the ultimate to
- 6:54Speaker 1: graduate from a school and then come back and do
- 6:57Speaker 1: the commencement speed. They get a PhD to get those
- 6:59Speaker 1: on er and all that good stuff, and you're not
- 7:02Speaker 1: I'm assuming you're a doctor peoky cold that right, not
- 7:06Speaker 1: yet soon come. It's coming oko, Okay, cool. But you
- 7:10Speaker 1: know it's interesting because I actually was invited to do
- 7:14Speaker 1: Morris Brown's commencement as well. So I was slated to
- 7:17Speaker 1: do Morris Brown and Clark atlant University. Fortunately, but unfortunately
- 7:22Speaker 1: I was only able to do one. So obviously I'm
- 7:24Speaker 1: gonna pick my alma mater. But shout out to Morris Brown,
- 7:27Speaker 1: he just got the accreditation. Um, shout out to Dr James.
- 7:31Speaker 1: That was just an amazing to be able to have
- 7:33Speaker 1: options right, Like not many people can say that they
- 7:36Speaker 1: got options they want to do for historic institutions historic
- 7:41Speaker 1: and be able to have to make hard choices like that.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, I'm on the right path. So when
- 7:46Speaker 1: I got the opportunity to see AU, it was a
- 7:49Speaker 1: no brainer. Like, I love my institution. I'm always putting
- 7:52Speaker 1: on for my school. I'm always telling people about why
- 7:55Speaker 1: you need to go to see AU and why people
- 7:57Speaker 1: need to support historically black colleges and university. And as
- 8:00Speaker 1: a thirty four year old woman who has a man
- 8:03Speaker 1: so much success in a short amount of time, we
- 8:06Speaker 1: all believe that I could really speak to the students
- 8:09Speaker 1: in a way that seventy five eighty five year old
- 8:12Speaker 1: couldn't when it comes to commencement speeches and no, no,
- 8:15Speaker 1: no shade or disrespect to to the people who come
- 8:19Speaker 1: and have the wisdom. But I feel like I could
- 8:21Speaker 1: offer a different level of wisdom for those students. And
- 8:23Speaker 1: it was eight hundred two four those students, and I said,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know what, I need to figure out a way
- 8:28Speaker 1: to be able to show these children that you can
- 8:33Speaker 1: literally take something so small and walking to this journey
- 8:37Speaker 1: and do all the things that you want to do.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And that was with LLC. So how I came up
- 8:40Speaker 1: with the idea. I'm like, I want to put these
- 8:43Speaker 1: people on a path to entrepreneurship right when you graduated
- 8:47Speaker 1: from college. Oftentimes many of us do not have a plan.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I did not have a plan at all. And because
- 8:53Speaker 1: I didn't have a plan, I had to go through
- 8:55Speaker 1: some hiccups along the way, go through some speed bumps.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But I'm so happy that I had to go through
- 8:59Speaker 1: those because then I became an expert. And as an expert,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I was talking directly to these students and telling them, listen,
- 9:06Speaker 1: you're gonna fail, but failing ain't failing at all. It
- 9:09Speaker 1: is finding aspiration and the losses and I'm going to
- 9:12Speaker 1: help you find success in all the things that you
- 9:15Speaker 1: want to do. But I'm gonna set you up on
- 9:17Speaker 1: a path to entrepreneurship. Whether you want to be an
- 9:19Speaker 1: entrepreneur or not, but this is an opportunity for for
- 9:23Speaker 1: you to really jump start your legacy, build generational wealth,
- 9:27Speaker 1: even if you want to work at nine and five.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And I'm excited about the response that it got because
- 9:32Speaker 1: what it showed is there's no I'm not paying all
- 9:35Speaker 1: the intuition. But what I'm going to do is I'm
- 9:38Speaker 1: going to put you in position that if you have
- 9:40Speaker 1: something that you've been thinking about, if you have something
- 9:43Speaker 1: that's been making your belly leap, now is the opportunity
- 9:46Speaker 1: to move on it. Because I literally gave you the
- 9:48Speaker 1: baton and say hey, here you go, go run. I'm
- 9:51Speaker 1: paying for it and I'm hoping hopefully they get to
- 9:54Speaker 1: pay it forward to So that felt really, really good.
- 9:57Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations MA
- 10:00Speaker 1: Class with Rashan McDonald. Now, let's return to Money Making
- 10:05Speaker 1: Conversations Master Class with Rashan McDonald. Thirty four years of age,
- 10:10Speaker 1: you know thirteen, roughly thirteen years ago, you know you
- 10:13Speaker 1: was you was just like them wandering around, you know,
- 10:15Speaker 1: about to step out into a world. My daughter just
- 10:17Speaker 1: graduated from college in Houston, and she's trying to figure
- 10:20Speaker 1: herself out, you know, in that journey of figuring yourself out.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Because you became a vegan and teen, what made that
- 10:27Speaker 1: transition to say I can become an entrepreneur two based
- 10:29Speaker 1: on wherever my lifestyle? Well, you know, I grew up
- 10:34Speaker 1: in a vegetarian household, So the transition wasn't as hard
- 10:37Speaker 1: as a lot of people think, because I grew up
- 10:40Speaker 1: in a world where we and I to food rice
- 10:42Speaker 1: some piece every day. Like I didn't grow up eating
- 10:44Speaker 1: cheeseburgers and fry. Like I didn't grow up going to mcdonald'
- 10:48Speaker 1: that was well you got that pretty skin in their pinky,
- 10:51Speaker 1: stay away from the fries, all that stuff. Yeah, I
- 10:54Speaker 1: didn't grow up and I didn't even grow up eating candy.
- 10:57Speaker 1: But you know, I attribute it to my mother because
- 10:59Speaker 1: she's arrested arian. So I grew up with a very
- 11:02Speaker 1: natural mom who didn't were makeup. She she didn't change.
- 11:05Speaker 1: She was very natural, eating like, very holistic. So in
- 11:09Speaker 1: two thousands seven, actually I stopped eating meat all together.
- 11:13Speaker 1: So I was just eating fish. And then fourteen I
- 11:15Speaker 1: decided to go vegan. And I know the difference because
- 11:18Speaker 1: my first restaurant was called Pinky's Jamaican, an American restaurant,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and I sold your chicken. I sold, I sailed, and
- 11:25Speaker 1: I saw all the foods that I did not eat,
- 11:28Speaker 1: but I was lying to the people telling them that
- 11:29Speaker 1: it tastes good, like, hey, you should try this, this
- 11:31Speaker 1: is good. But I didn't eat that. So when I realized,
- 11:33Speaker 1: with something that I would never do again, I was
- 11:35Speaker 1: not in alignment with my purpose. I wasn't being honest
- 11:39Speaker 1: and my business didn't succeed because of that, and I
- 11:42Speaker 1: had a grease fire and I lost everything. And when
- 11:46Speaker 1: I got it back, I got it back through Slutty
- 11:48Speaker 1: Vegan because I was literally walking in my purpose and
- 11:50Speaker 1: walking in my assignment. I am fully vegan. I like
- 11:53Speaker 1: to give my vegan my friends vegan food. I like
- 11:56Speaker 1: to have them try to see if they could see
- 11:59Speaker 1: the difference. And now I get to capitalize off my
- 12:02Speaker 1: lifestyle by having a business and using my platform and
- 12:06Speaker 1: resources to help people for the reimagined food. And that
- 12:09Speaker 1: is why my business has been able to be so
- 12:11Speaker 1: successful and work because I'm walking in my path. I
- 12:14Speaker 1: ain't lying to the people. I'm being my authentic self
- 12:17Speaker 1: and it just works. And I'm happy that I get
- 12:19Speaker 1: to do what I love and get paid to do
- 12:20Speaker 1: what I love. Now Eat plants b I T c
- 12:23Speaker 1: h mouth water and photographs and easy to follow instruction.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Eat plants b I T eight celebrate coach belief that
- 12:31Speaker 1: it's fun and assessible to cooking and jaw irresistible vegan
- 12:34Speaker 1: comfort food from offer color egg Roads, which sounds amazing
- 12:39Speaker 1: to her Black Peak Coliflower, cauliflower, pool ball, pol Boy.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It says nainy one. Why nainny one? Is that they
- 12:46Speaker 1: just counted ain'ty want to do? You know, because you
- 12:48Speaker 1: always have a method to your madness? Is naty one
- 12:51Speaker 1: in particular as a particular number? Why you said, Ninny
- 12:53Speaker 1: want to just namey one recipes? Ninety one was just
- 12:56Speaker 1: a sweet spot kinds of recipes. But I'm person that
- 13:00Speaker 1: I want the best of the best, and it's about
- 13:03Speaker 1: quality not quantity, So yeah, we had some more recipes.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Ninety one was just hit number. It just really just
- 13:09Speaker 1: like it was just a really good sweet spot for
- 13:12Speaker 1: like the best recipes. I wanted the best and this
- 13:15Speaker 1: cookbook specifically is not just for the vegan. It's for
- 13:18Speaker 1: the person who likes to eat meat. This is this
- 13:23Speaker 1: is a person that just like really really good food.
- 13:25Speaker 1: So I wanted to make sure that all the recipes
- 13:27Speaker 1: that were in the book were good recipes, whether you
- 13:30Speaker 1: were vegan or not. You know, oftentimes we have a
- 13:32Speaker 1: misconception that if it's vegan, it don't taste good, it's bland,
- 13:35Speaker 1: the slave ain't good. Like I wanted to eliminate all
- 13:38Speaker 1: of that and just make a really good cookbook that
- 13:40Speaker 1: serves really good food. And as long as you can
- 13:43Speaker 1: read and you can follow directions, you can really make
- 13:45Speaker 1: these really really good recipes. So I'm excited about the launch.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Um it launches November fifteen. Uh, the book is on
- 13:52Speaker 1: pre sale right now. We actually have sold a lot
- 13:55Speaker 1: on pre sale, which I'm very excited about. And people
- 13:58Speaker 1: are anticipating this book. Where this for the holidays, or
- 14:01Speaker 1: somebody who's just trying to make the transition, or somebody
- 14:04Speaker 1: don't even want to make the transition, they still want
- 14:06Speaker 1: to eat beat. They just want to That's that's that
- 14:09Speaker 1: we mean. Now, you know, I'm gonna eat my meat,
- 14:11Speaker 1: but I'm gonna open real book because when this book
- 14:13Speaker 1: come out, you know, I got me a little TikTok account.
- 14:15Speaker 1: You know I'll be I'll be cooking and baking. So
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna take some of these recipes and drop on TikTok.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Say that's mcgirl. Have a little picture in my love
- 14:22Speaker 1: up a little corner that let everybody know this is
- 14:24Speaker 1: pick and go this right here, because the thing about
- 14:27Speaker 1: it is that so many people champion you, and I
- 14:30Speaker 1: think that I just love you as a person. I
- 14:33Speaker 1: love using entrepreneur. You're so spirited. Uh where where is
- 14:37Speaker 1: that coming from? You mentioned your mom, But it also
- 14:40Speaker 1: has to be your surrounding people around you who also
- 14:43Speaker 1: believe in you. Correct. Um. I think it's partially that
- 14:48Speaker 1: I've always had this and it may sound weird, but
- 14:52Speaker 1: I believe in good karma. I believe when you show
- 14:55Speaker 1: up in the world as a good person, the world
- 14:58Speaker 1: is going to come back and be good to you.
- 15:00Speaker 1: You and I lived my life very honest. I don't lie.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'm still I don't cheat. When I laid my head
- 15:05Speaker 1: down at night, my conscious is clear because I'm very
- 15:08Speaker 1: fair across the board, and I do right by people,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and I give back and I pay it forward, and
- 15:14Speaker 1: because I do those things, one my blessings just keep
- 15:17Speaker 1: unfolding for me. And too, I know that the universe
- 15:20Speaker 1: sees me and God is blessing me because of how
- 15:23Speaker 1: I live my life and how I'm a model that
- 15:25Speaker 1: you can be a good person and you can still
- 15:27Speaker 1: get all the things that you want and you ain't
- 15:29Speaker 1: gotta be mischievous. You don't have to do any of that.
- 15:32Speaker 1: So I realized at a very young age that I
- 15:35Speaker 1: had a gift, and I didn't quite know what that
- 15:37Speaker 1: gift was, but I knew that I wanted to make
- 15:39Speaker 1: an impact in the world as a kid watching Golden
- 15:42Speaker 1: Girls with my grandmother and you know what I'm saying,
- 15:45Speaker 1: like being really in the trenches with some old folks,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and I realized that I knew that there was something
- 15:50Speaker 1: special about me that I could give to the world.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And I just literally lived my life like that all
- 15:55Speaker 1: the time. And my perfect absolutely now. And I ain't
- 15:57Speaker 1: gonna say here and say I am I'm not the
- 15:59Speaker 1: perfect See oh, sometimes I might not be the perfect spouse. Um,
- 16:03Speaker 1: I might not even be the perfect mother sometimes, but
- 16:05Speaker 1: I do the very best that I can. And I
- 16:07Speaker 1: realized that when you show up as a good, wholehearted person,
- 16:11Speaker 1: the universal reward you and you will get all the
- 16:14Speaker 1: things that you pray about every single day. I am
- 16:18Speaker 1: I looking at the modern day Oprah WinCE. You know
- 16:22Speaker 1: what's so funny? A lot of people which is a
- 16:26Speaker 1: very big compliment, almost too big for me. I'm trying
- 16:30Speaker 1: to catch up. But a lot of people say that,
- 16:31Speaker 1: you know, and I'm like, it's such an honor to
- 16:34Speaker 1: even be associated with somebody of that caliber. That to
- 16:38Speaker 1: me feels great and it tells me that one that Okay, Pinky,
- 16:42Speaker 1: you got a big responsibility here because there's a lot
- 16:44Speaker 1: of little girls and little boys looking up to you.
- 16:47Speaker 1: So everything that I do, I have to make sure
- 16:49Speaker 1: that not only am I responsible for myself, I'm also
- 16:52Speaker 1: responsible for how I show up because there's so many
- 16:54Speaker 1: people watching me. So I will take that compliment as
- 16:57Speaker 1: often as you want to give it, I will take it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Take it because I'm just saying, is that I just
- 17:03Speaker 1: see you on television. I just see you in that medium.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And because of the fact, the reason I say that
- 17:09Speaker 1: Oprah has something to say, that's why she was successful,
- 17:11Speaker 1: that's why she still is successful. She's articulous, she was smart. Uh,
- 17:15Speaker 1: she also graduated over an HBCU, but also a person
- 17:19Speaker 1: who had a background that that that that that that
- 17:22Speaker 1: that was constantly moving forward, constantly moving forward. In fact,
- 17:25Speaker 1: you you're like to me, you're ahead of Oprah where
- 17:28Speaker 1: she was when she broke out. So you you you
- 17:31Speaker 1: have a resume of being able to teach. You're teaching people,
- 17:34Speaker 1: You're delivering the message. And I just say that, are
- 17:37Speaker 1: you the modern day version of Oprah because of the
- 17:39Speaker 1: fact that we all have messengers at different levels, and
- 17:43Speaker 1: I see you as a messenger. This is this is
- 17:45Speaker 1: a lade from two thousand we first met, which I
- 17:49Speaker 1: knew you before that, but I see it more polished.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I see a much more enlightening lightning and you know
- 17:54Speaker 1: you feel happier too, and not saying you're unhappy then,
- 17:57Speaker 1: but what what what it's it's a can glow on you.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I know you're about to be a mom, but it's
- 18:02Speaker 1: another clow, it's another clow, it's another talk to me girl.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I am a love I'm happy. I got good people
- 18:09Speaker 1: around me. You know, it's a difference when you have
- 18:12Speaker 1: a good team, when you got people that genuinely love
- 18:16Speaker 1: you and don't want nothing from you, but want you
- 18:17Speaker 1: to succeed and want you to win. And I'm very
- 18:21Speaker 1: intentional about who I invited into my circle these days. Um,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and I'm just living freely. You know. The last time
- 18:28Speaker 1: that I interviewed with you, I was still in the kitchen.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I was flipping burger, shaking fries. I was being the janitor,
- 18:35Speaker 1: I was been hr I was the one of those things.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And while I was doing well, I was hustling backwards
- 18:40Speaker 1: because I wasn't properly delegating my business in order for
- 18:43Speaker 1: it to grow in the way that if we did
- 18:44Speaker 1: to grow. And as soon as I stepped outside of
- 18:46Speaker 1: my business and started delegating and finding the right talent
- 18:50Speaker 1: to help the business grow, I've seen the shift in
- 18:52Speaker 1: my attitude and in my energy and also in my business.
- 18:56Speaker 1: So I'm at a really, really good place right now.
- 18:58Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 19:02Speaker 1: with Rashan McDonald. Now let's return to Money Making Conversations
- 19:08Speaker 1: Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. So, so before we shift out

- 19:46Speaker 1: a great book. Like I said, I like dessert, I
- 19:49Speaker 1: like meat, But I'm buying this book because I like
- 19:52Speaker 1: good food. And the recipes. We can't discuss it now,
- 19:55Speaker 1: the recipes because you know, give it the resciree. What
- 19:57Speaker 1: a You're gonna buy the book, but but what can't
- 20:00Speaker 1: do it? Say? You know all history? You know all honestly,
- 20:03Speaker 1: her book is worth buying because I'm gonna buy. And
- 20:05Speaker 1: when I buy, I'm gonna be I'm gonna doing a
- 20:08Speaker 1: little a little TikTok coup, putting some stuff out there,
- 20:10Speaker 1: probably messing up a little bit. She probably gonna slap
- 20:12Speaker 1: my hand. Don't be messing my food. If you can't
- 20:14Speaker 1: cook it right, We're gonna be all good. But that's
- 20:16Speaker 1: the big pre order. Now that we got that out
- 20:18Speaker 1: the way, the expansion, let's talk about the Slutty Vegan expansion.
- 20:23Speaker 1: New York City at lasta girl, what are you doing?
- 20:26Speaker 1: What's city? I'm gonna be able to go into bro
- 20:30Speaker 1: And you know, growth is so beautiful. I can remember
- 20:33Speaker 1: when I started this concept and a shared kitchen, and
- 20:36Speaker 1: if you would have told me four years ago then
- 20:38Speaker 1: it would look like this. I probably would have laughed
- 20:40Speaker 1: at you, not because I didn't believe you, but because
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm like, hold on, that's that's a big thing that's happening.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But I'm excited about the level of growth. I just
- 20:48Speaker 1: opened up my Assence location. So currently I have five
- 20:51Speaker 1: locations and we are under construction with four additional locations,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and that's New York in Brooklyn, and in Harlem, Columbus, Georgia,
- 21:00Speaker 1: and a few other locations. And I'm excited about where
- 21:04Speaker 1: the business is going. We gotta shoot deal with Steve Madden.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Um from Steve Madden see again again, just see I'm
- 21:12Speaker 1: so sick of she throw out information don't want to
- 21:15Speaker 1: give the back I keep telling y'all her back story
- 21:17Speaker 1: better than the announcement. Okay, how did the Steve Madden
- 21:20Speaker 1: thing happen? Come on? That? So Steve Mann happened because
- 21:23Speaker 1: I was I went to a collaboration event that Steve
- 21:27Speaker 1: Mann was hosted with The Fearless Fun and it was
- 21:29Speaker 1: with some other entrepreneurs. And one thing about me is nothing.
- 21:33Speaker 1: He's trial but to failure. So I'm gonna ask for
- 21:35Speaker 1: the things that I want. So Steve Madden was on
- 21:38Speaker 1: the zoo and I told him, I said, listen, you
- 21:41Speaker 1: might not know who I am now, but I need
- 21:42Speaker 1: you to google me because I have one of the
- 21:44Speaker 1: most popular concepts of the country and you and I
- 21:47Speaker 1: need to collaborate. And when need to do a shoe deal.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And you know, this man did his research, and you
- 21:52Speaker 1: know he came back and said, let's set up a call,
- 21:53Speaker 1: let's do it. And now here we are. A couple
- 21:56Speaker 1: of months later, we got a vegan shoe about to
- 21:58Speaker 1: launch that is backed by eat Up. It's a slutty
- 22:01Speaker 1: vegan shoe. And if you send me address, I'm gonna
- 22:03Speaker 1: send you a pair. And I'm excited about it because
- 22:05Speaker 1: it's game changing. It ain't just about burgers, fries and pies.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Right like, we are showing people that this is a
- 22:10Speaker 1: lifestyle brand, and people love the brain so much. I'm excited.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I know how, you know, I know how to market there.
- 22:16Speaker 1: You know, you say something that we don't put that
- 22:18Speaker 1: on in public. She dropped it on Money Conversation. We're
- 22:21Speaker 1: gonna circulate this and put it on some feed come
- 22:23Speaker 1: on that, go out there and get that shoot all right,
- 22:26Speaker 1: because guess what she's good people. She bought a mom,
- 22:28Speaker 1: she got she got a child coming on with, she
- 22:30Speaker 1: got paid some bills. Okay, um, so yeah, so with
- 22:34Speaker 1: with the expansion. Um now we have Richard lu Dennis
- 22:39Speaker 1: and Danny Meyers on our town. Okay, that that that
- 22:43Speaker 1: help us scale and grow. And I'm confident that Slutty
- 22:46Speaker 1: Vegan will be a billion dollar brand. Absolutely absolutely well.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Richard Lewis, I love him, you know, over the essence,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know what he's doing over there. Just unfortunate pandemic
- 22:55Speaker 1: hit when he took over it, but he still hadn't
- 22:57Speaker 1: stopped the wheels from from moving forward. But the beauty
- 23:01Speaker 1: of you know, I read the New York City is
- 23:04Speaker 1: gonna get a Slurty vegan. Okay, well, you know it's
- 23:07Speaker 1: hiring up there. You know there's a lot of people
- 23:09Speaker 1: that it's twelve million people coming to New York Manhattan
- 23:12Speaker 1: on a giving work day. Why do Yorkly? This is
- 23:15Speaker 1: just a statement opening though, while you're going to New
- 23:17Speaker 1: York in what area of New York City you going?
- 23:20Speaker 1: So New York is like a home coming. You know,
- 23:22Speaker 1: I had my first restaurant was in Harlem, So this
- 23:25Speaker 1: is my opportunity to really come back. So we're doing
- 23:28Speaker 1: Brooklyn and we're doing Harlem again for two reasons. One
- 23:31Speaker 1: is a home cooming and to I feel like, if
- 23:33Speaker 1: you can make it in the big cities, you can
- 23:35Speaker 1: make it anywhere. If you can make it in New York, Chicago,
- 23:38Speaker 1: l A, Miami, then you can really do well anywhere.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And New York is just one of those, uh places
- 23:44Speaker 1: that we just feel comfortable about putting. Slutty began there
- 23:47Speaker 1: so we can really continue to make this brand of
- 23:50Speaker 1: household name. I can't wait. It's happening this year. Um
- 23:54Speaker 1: you we have a big block party. The goal is
- 23:56Speaker 1: to be able to open within the next few weeks.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So we're pretty much done now. But I'm excited. Well,
- 24:02Speaker 1: I know you probably won't be able to travel up there,
- 24:04Speaker 1: probably zoom in doing FaceTime up there. You know, you
- 24:06Speaker 1: take care of yourself. But again, Pinky, you know two
- 24:09Speaker 1: years was too long, but it's been firm, watching the
- 24:12Speaker 1: growth and watching the journey. So you old me. I'm
- 24:15Speaker 1: gonna drop this announcement about to Steve Mannen shoe deal.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Don't drop that. But also more important, Oh you some
- 24:21Speaker 1: thousand pathers, I'm saying that on again. I gotta get there.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And you sent me those vegan shoes. Okay, I absolutely
- 24:27Speaker 1: will and thank you so much again for having it.
- 24:29Speaker 1: And I cannot wait till you come to slide slidfy.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Hey baby, I'm there. I'm seriously, I really, I I
- 24:36Speaker 1: am committed. In fact, I went to the one. I
- 24:38Speaker 1: went to the one over off I think the loot
- 24:47Speaker 1: great experience. Yeah, I see your boy knew about that
- 24:50Speaker 1: location because he ain't been there. See I a't snuck
- 24:52Speaker 1: in behind. Yeah excellent, I see. But like I said,
- 24:56Speaker 1: when I again, I'm like you, I try to be authentic.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I don't trying to just talk to people when I
- 25:01Speaker 1: said and just say nice things. I've experienced your brand.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I love what you're doing and are and you represent
- 25:08Speaker 1: positivity and I kid you not. You are our Oprah
- 25:12Speaker 1: of this era. And don't don't walk away from that,
- 25:15Speaker 1: don't stumble. You will be on TV, young lady, and
- 25:18Speaker 1: you are going to be a billionaire. Okay, I received that. Yes,
- 25:23Speaker 1: thank you so much. It's been Peaky Cold the creator,
- 25:25Speaker 1: founder of Slutty Vegan and has a new book out.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It's coming out. Please get it eat. I'm gonna see it.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna see you that. I'm gonna see it. I'm
- 25:36Speaker 1: gonna see they're they're gonna edit it that they're gonna that.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But again, thank you for coming on Money Making Conversation.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Pinky coom than you. If you want to hear or
- 25:44Speaker 1: see any of my interviews, please go to Money Make
