- 0:33taking my side piece. That B -side thing. This
- 0:36is the B -Sides Boxing Podcast. I left with his
- 0:39belt and his girl. Oh, man. You know, I think
- 0:50the name came together really nicely. Boxing
- 0:54Before Dark. yeah i think we're cooking with
- 0:57something here but the internet has ruined me
- 1:00did you notice what the bbd i did yeah i yeah
- 1:04i thought about it from side pieces to bbds yeah
- 1:07i i saw it and i thought about it i'm like you
- 1:12know what i i don't care i'm going with it yeah
- 1:15it's it'll be part of the charm it made me laugh
- 1:19it's all good boxing before dark uh I was going
- 1:25to put that on there to set up a formal introduction
- 1:28at some point. Man, I got to do an interview
- 1:30today and it was really fucking cool. It was
- 1:33with an author. His name is Clay Risen. He wrote
- 1:37this book called Red Scare. It's a book about
- 1:41McCarthyism and how it's starting to crop back
- 1:46up. McCarthyism for the uninitiated. It's like
- 1:50back in the 40s and 50s after post -World War
- 1:53II. there was the immediate aftermath where being
- 1:56a communist was like being the devil, pretty
- 1:59much. So that's what McCarthyism, that term means,
- 2:04like the witch hunt for alleged communists or
- 2:09alleged gay people and vilifying and driving
- 2:14them out of public life. Sorry, I thought I recognized
- 2:21his name. Is he the guy who writes about bourbon?
- 2:23Yes. I completely forgot to ask him about that.
- 2:27As soon as we hung up, I was like, shit, he has
- 2:30like five fucking books on bourbon. I need to
- 2:34ask him about this. I will say that's the one
- 2:38thing I am slightly missing. It's not that it
- 2:41makes any difference in Japan, but I have also
- 2:43not been buying the American alcohols out of
- 2:47solidarity. I miss bourbon. Nobody makes bourbon
- 2:51like the Americans. Yeah, that's our thing. they
- 2:55don't the japanese or not the irish or scott
- 2:58scottish god what's wrong with me um they don't
- 3:02call it scotch everyone else does because it's
- 3:05yeah they just call it single malt or whatever
- 3:07yeah and well canada does have some smaller brewer
- 3:13distilleries i guess um that are making bourbon
- 3:17like drinks they have to call them bourbon like
- 3:22bourbons made in america yeah if it doesn't come
- 3:24from the bourbon region of kentucky uh then it's
- 3:29just corn whiskey yeah spicy corn water yeah
- 3:33yeah that's i can't fucking stand people that
- 3:38do that they're all pedantic like that I finally,
- 3:43this even hurts more because I finally found
- 3:45a bottle of Blanton's to buy, which is my favorite.
- 3:49It's fucking expensive now. I'm going to sound
- 3:53like such a hipster douche, but I found it when
- 3:55it was still cheap and now they've gotten popular.
- 3:59It's like $200 a bottle. Okay, what? Yeah, I
- 4:04won't be buying it anyways, boycott or not. Don't
- 4:09recall. I think the most I've ever spent on a
- 4:12single bottle is like $120. I bought gift bottles
- 4:18that were $200. Like birthday, anniversary, whatever.
- 4:23But yeah, no. Not usually. Well, Red Scare from
- 4:30the bourbon guy. That'll be coming out. Part
- 4:34of the Lux Media family, Progressive Patriots.
- 4:38going to be the first episode in like two months.
- 4:41So, whatevs. You're getting all the other podcasts
- 4:44rolling again. I'm trying to. Try my best. One
- 4:49last push, I suppose. The one card in Tokyo.
- 4:55Did you end up catching it? Well, everything
- 4:59except the main event. I was watching it at work
- 5:02and I ran out of time. But the one card seemed
- 5:07a lot more fun. than other MMA. There's way less
- 5:12wrestle fucking. Yeah. I do not like the UFC.
- 5:15The one card was really fun. The atmosphere was
- 5:18good. The one kid came out dressed as Luffy from
- 5:21One Piece. Yeah, that was fun. Yeah, he's real
- 5:25tall and skinny. I don't know anybody's name.
- 5:27I know who you're talking about. Yeah. He looked
- 5:31like Fundora, but Asian. That's... Exactly what
- 5:37I was thinking as I was watching him. He's like,
- 5:39he's six foot four fights at 135. Like, man,
- 5:43you've got plenty of weight classes to go. Yeah,
- 5:47I missed the main, but I did see that Rod Tang
- 5:52just destroyed that kid. What I'm told from like
- 5:58somebody who's a little bit, Zoe, I think it
- 6:00was, he's a little bit more in depth with. the
- 6:04MMA stuff than I am. It was that Takeru, the
- 6:09Japanese kickboxer, he had been still doing hard
- 6:13sparring up to like a week, week and a half before
- 6:17the fight. And he had a lingering injury that
- 6:22he didn't disclose. If you're injured, pull out
- 6:25of the fight or no excuses. Right. If you walk
- 6:29out, you don't have any excuses. I also just
- 6:32really like Rod Tang, so I wasn't too sad. He's
- 6:35a fucking monster. Yeah, Rod Tang. In the co
- 6:40-main, the guy, the very slender man, his name
- 6:44is Nibel Anan. He's, I think, like, Thai and
- 6:49Algerian or something. I don't know. I think
- 6:52that's what they were saying. But he fought Superlek,
- 6:54who's another Muay Thai. I recognize that name.
- 6:59Yeah, he's a Muay Thai monster as well. I think
- 7:01that he's called like the kicking machine or
- 7:03something. And that is like where who the fuck
- 7:07is this? This is not super like he looks like
- 7:10lethargic. Well, he must be old now. He's about
- 7:1530. Really? Which is old when you're doing Muay
- 7:20Thai. Yeah, but I hadn't realized he was that
- 7:24young. Because Luffy guy is like 20 or 21. How
- 7:28old is Rod Tang? Rod Tang must actually be old.
- 7:30He's older for sure. I think he's going to be
- 7:33finding his way out of the sport kind of soon.
- 7:36So enjoy him while you can. Rod Tang's 27? Is
- 7:42he? He looks old as shit. Is Rod Tang his real
- 7:47name? Like he's Rod Tang Jitmongnong or something?
- 7:50Yeah, the last name. It's his gym or his sponsor
- 7:54or whatever. Okay, but I mean, like, I haven't
- 7:57found the wrong guy. Yeah, that's the right one.
- 8:00He's 27. No fucking way. He looks like he's 37.
- 8:05Well, I thought he'd been fighting for like 10
- 8:08years. He very well may have. They start really
- 8:12young there. That's crazy. I thought he was older
- 8:16than me for sure, which would make him ancient.
- 8:18But I guess not. I think that they still have
- 8:22the mileage on them, and that's why they may
- 8:24seem older than they are. Yeah. Yeah. That is
- 8:32surprising. Anyways, yeah, you've been telling
- 8:35me to try the one instead of UFC, and it does
- 8:40look way more fun. Yeah. I also have decided,
- 8:43now that I've seen all my boxers, I should...
- 8:46go to either a one card or a rising card in japan
- 8:50the crowd seems more fun rising i think would
- 8:54be more just because it's a lot more homegrown
- 8:56yeah well and i might meet some low -class friends
- 9:02yeah boxing is for the businessmen boxing is
- 9:07fairly high class elite kind of stuff in tokyo
- 9:11that's the feel it has there's There's people
- 9:14scattered around, but it feels fancy, which is
- 9:18weird. It is. I have always heard it called the
- 9:23gentleman's sport. Yeah, but that's not really
- 9:26true. No, that doesn't make a lot of sense. Exactly.
- 9:30Like thinking of Tijuana ballroom or bar rooms,
- 9:34not ballrooms. Maybe it is a ballroom. Who knows?
- 9:39Or like. The British cards, it does not seem
- 9:43like it's the gentlemen that are showing up to
- 9:45watch. No, it's the hooligans. But yeah, no,
- 9:49the one I do not like mixed martial arts, but
- 9:53that one card seemed pretty fun. I have a little
- 9:59thing that I did with Isaac. We have a little
- 10:03cross promo thing that I play at the end of the
- 10:06boxing shows, which is like what? What would
- 10:10you tell a boxing fan, like a purist type of
- 10:13mentality? What can they get out of watching
- 10:16one FC UFC? UFC has got too much wrestling in
- 10:22it now for me. It's not, not fun. Even the strikers,
- 10:26they, they wrestle a lot, but the kickboxing,
- 10:30there's no wrestling when they fall down, they
- 10:33stand them back up. Usually. Yeah. Yeah. So,
- 10:37yeah. It's stand -up fighting with kicks, which
- 10:40is fun. And the kicks are super impressive sometimes.
- 10:45There was one guy on there. His name was Jonathan
- 10:47DiBella. He's a smaller weight class, but his
- 10:51boxing is super crisp. Usually, whenever you're
- 10:58talking about... MMA guy or kickboxing or whatever
- 11:02and you say oh their boxing is really good and
- 11:05usually they're pretty sloppy they just have
- 11:07like a decent jab or it's just really basic fundamentals
- 11:10but DiBella is really good if he could plant
- 11:16his feet you could very well be looking at a
- 11:20boxer right there very few that get that acclaim
- 11:25from me I've, I think I've only got two, three
- 11:29that I've ever, Jonathan DeBell is three, three
- 11:33of three. But yeah, I tell everybody if you're
- 11:36trying, if you want to get into more combat sports
- 11:39and you're a boxing head, Muay Thai is the, Muay
- 11:44Thai, kickboxing is the easiest alternative to
- 11:48start with because it's, it's boxing, but with
- 11:51kicks added. And then Muay Thai. Yeah, because
- 11:54they wear, like, boxing -style gloves, too, so
- 11:56there can't be any grappling. Right. And then
- 11:59if you want to move a little further, Muay Thai,
- 12:02they add the elbows and the knees. And they can
- 12:05do a little bit of clinching, but you have to
- 12:07be actively working in a clinch, or else they'll
- 12:10split you up. And they still stand them up when
- 12:13they get thrown. Right. If there's, like, trips
- 12:16or pushes or anything that you stand up immediately,
- 12:18like, they do still have the 10 -count knockdown.
- 12:22But it has to be a very clear and obvious knockdown.
- 12:25A usual technique is like in Muay Thai, they
- 12:28throw a kick and it gets caught. And as they're
- 12:32holding it, they throw a punch over the top.
- 12:34And then that usually sends the guy down. And
- 12:37that's like a knockdown. Yeah, because my biggest
- 12:39problem with mixed martial arts is the ground
- 12:41game. I just find it boring as fuck. And there
- 12:45are submission grappling competitions on 1FC,
- 12:50which is just pure grappling. And it's paradoxical
- 12:55because I have the same problem with ground game
- 12:57stuff in UFC. But submission grappling, it's
- 13:02like watching master chefs cook. Yeah, I say
- 13:05this all the time when I'm making arguments with
- 13:08people. Grappling is like soccer. I'm sure it
- 13:11takes a whole bunch of skill. I sure as hell
- 13:13couldn't do it. People love it. It's super popular.
- 13:16I think it's boring as hell to watch. Yeah. You're
- 13:22either going to get it or you don't. You can
- 13:24be brought onto it, but you've got to be... You've
- 13:28got to want it or it's not going to happen. Because
- 13:32it can be pretty homoerotic. Very. which i'm
- 13:38not against i love reading homoerotic comics
- 13:42but watching it on tv is weird yeah not quite
- 13:46my thing oh man the big news deep sigh george
- 13:52foreman uh we mentioned it the last time uh just
- 13:56kind of in passing that an acknowledgement but
- 13:59holy cow looking into his life this I didn't
- 14:04realize how much he had transcended the sport.
- 14:07Yeah. George Foreman was a phenomenon for a while,
- 14:12and I hadn't realized he had multiple TV shows.
- 14:17Really? He had, like, it's only one season. I
- 14:23think it got canceled pretty quick. But Family
- 14:25Foreman was him and his family, but, like, a
- 14:29scripted TV show. And there was also one just
- 14:31called George. that was a sitcom as well scripted
- 14:36family show so yeah it's like a sitcom like but
- 14:40with all his kids i never watched it but it it
- 14:46looks like it was written kind of like sanford
- 14:51and sons maybe did you remember that one yeah
- 14:54but like him and all his kids yeah so i didn't
- 15:01know Big George had a TV show. That one was from
- 15:042008. And then his other TV show, I think, came
- 15:08before that. Yeah, he had a TV show in the 90s
- 15:13when he was doing his comeback. That's about
- 15:16the time he had his infomercial series as well.
- 15:19Yeah. When he did all his grill stuff. Yeah.
- 15:24Oh, man. The George Foreman KO boxing video game.
- 15:28I had that on Sega Genesis. It was not very good.
- 15:34It was hard. It was a good, like a spiritual
- 15:38successor to Mike Tyson's Punch Out. It did have
- 15:41that similar level of difficulty. Yeah, I always
- 15:47think that people have forgotten how scary George
- 15:51Foreman was in his first run. Like, there's a
- 15:55few interviews and... I meant to go find the
- 15:58clip, but there's one where it's old George talking
- 16:02about his mindset in his first heavyweight run.
- 16:05And he's like, I hated how nobody respected me,
- 16:09nobody liked me. And he said, well, if I kill
- 16:12one of these guys, then they'll have to respect
- 16:14me. Oh, boy. One of those. But it's old George's,
- 16:19like, happy, friendly voice. But it just... Like,
- 16:25even George trying to not be scary was a little
- 16:28scary. His first professional loss was to Muhammad
- 16:31Ali. And the little blurb thing that Serial's
- 16:36putting together, I had mentioned that even though
- 16:39he was on the losing side of it, he still, like,
- 16:41cemented himself as the... one of the greats
- 16:46to hang with Ali like that. Yeah. Bop and Joe
- 16:51Frazier, who... Was undefeated. I didn't know
- 16:55that Joe Frazier was undefeated at the time.
- 16:58That makes that win a whole lot crazier. When
- 17:02Big George entered the scene, he shocked a lot
- 17:05of people. I don't think anybody really expected
- 17:09him to be that good in the professionals that
- 17:11quickly. 76 -5. That is unbelievable. I remember
- 17:18watching George Foreman vs. Evander Holyfield.
- 17:22uh i think i saw michael moorer i've watched
- 17:26that fight a couple times and he's so crafty
- 17:32in it and i don't know how much of it is true
- 17:34i do feel like george might rewrite history slightly
- 17:38in some of his storytelling but uh he In interviews
- 17:44afterwards, he's like, I was only throwing my
- 17:46punches at about 60%, waiting for just the right
- 17:50time to hit him. Like, let him get confident
- 17:54that he can take my punches, that I'm just an
- 17:56old man and I don't hit like I used to, and wear
- 17:59him down and wear him down. And he's like, I
- 18:02had to pick the perfect time to throw that one
- 18:05big punch, because if I let him know the trick
- 18:07too soon, he would get cautious and I'd never
- 18:11get a second chance. That stepping uppercut that
- 18:14he would do, that's immediately what comes to
- 18:17mind. The Jerry Clooney? Yeah. That is the most
- 18:22casual knockout ever performed in a boxing ring.
- 18:27What I didn't watch, what I meant to watch before
- 18:29we chatted today, was the loss to Shannon Briggs.
- 18:35Because he was almost 49 years old at the time.
- 18:38And Shannon Briggs is... Not that good. Yeah,
- 18:43but age is a factor, man. It still took him to
- 18:48a majority decision. That is pretty nuts. That
- 18:52raises a lot of question marks, Shannon. It's
- 18:56not very canon -like behavior. Yeah, man. I guess
- 19:01he'd been sick. I don't think they had told anybody,
- 19:05but this was apparently not a surprise to his
- 19:08family at all. And now that I think about it,
- 19:10we haven't had any new Big George stuff in quite
- 19:15a few years. True. Even at his late age, Ali
- 19:21was still going around doing stuff. He was very
- 19:25clearly in bad shape. But I saw him, no kidding,
- 19:30he was at a... My first like official date with
- 19:36my then girlfriend, the one that went to Vegas
- 19:38with me, we went to this little jazz festival
- 19:41and they they like stopped everything to let
- 19:46Muhammad Ali walk up to his private box. Nice.
- 19:50Yeah, it was I was like, holy shit. And then
- 19:55she didn't know anything about boxing. It's like,
- 19:57who what are you talking about? Do you not know
- 20:00who that is? How do you not know who Muhammad
- 20:03Ali is? Once I said the name, of course. Right,
- 20:07oh, she just didn't recognize him. Yeah, she
- 20:09had no idea what he actually looked like. I can
- 20:12see that. Especially an older, sick Ali didn't
- 20:16really look like Ali anymore. He was in rough
- 20:20shape. I expect that George just stayed home
- 20:24to kind of not tarnish that big legacy. Yeah,
- 20:30I heard a rumor. I don't know how confident you
- 20:36can be in it, but that he'd had a few strokes.
- 20:40So I wonder if he really wanted to kind of hide
- 20:47that and remain the big George Foreman, not,
- 20:51you know, some guy who was having trouble walking
- 20:54anymore. Right, because his whole face and he'd
- 20:58be slurring all his words. I can imagine he'd
- 21:02want to save face a little bit. I haven't seen
- 21:07that from any really good media, but I've seen
- 21:11a couple rumors online. And that would make sense
- 21:14too, I think. Yeah, wouldn't be too surprising.
- 21:18But we have talked about Big George and not making
- 21:20fun of the fact that he named... All his kids,
- 21:23George. How the fuck do you do that? Yeah, I
- 21:28think even the girls are like Georgette or something
- 21:31like that. One of them is Georgina, and then
- 21:34the other girl had a regular name, the one that
- 21:38boxed. He had a kid that boxed? Yeah, one of
- 21:42his daughters was female heavyweight champ. Was
- 21:45it Georgina that boxed or the other one? I don't
- 21:48know. I didn't know any of his kids did. I knew
- 21:50one of his sons did, but... I think his dad talked
- 21:55him out of it after a little while. Frida? I
- 21:59think it's Frida that boxed. I think it was Frida.
- 22:03I don't think Georgetta boxed. It's whichever
- 22:07of the girls is dead. Oh. But that's not super
- 22:13helpful. Good lord. Because there was for a little
- 22:22while talk that she was going to fight Ali's
- 22:26daughter. Layla. That's right. Yeah. Yeah, it's
- 22:33Frida Foreman. And I'm pretty sure she was a
- 22:36champion in the early days of women's boxing.
- 22:42All I can find are articles on her death, though,
- 22:45because of course that's all I can find. All
- 22:48of his kids are named George. I mean, a modern
- 22:53version is the Gary Antoine Russell or the Gary
- 22:57Russells. There's like five of them, three of
- 23:02them box. All of them have the first name Gary.
- 23:05It's so weird. It's got to be so weird at home.
- 23:10Like they must go by their middle names. You
- 23:11got to. You have to. I would, if I had, I would
- 23:18have liked to name one of my sons after me, but
- 23:22that was, it would just be one. I'm like, I'm
- 23:26not going to. Yeah. Frida Foreman's middle name
- 23:30was George. Well done. Can't not do it. I am
- 23:41wrong. She never had any of the belts. No? No.
- 23:48I did not realize her middle name was George.
- 23:52I didn't either. It makes me think that the other
- 23:56one is also... Oh, she's Georgetta. Yeah, that's
- 24:01right. Is she Georgetta George Foreman? Because
- 24:07that would be madness. Man, anything more for
- 24:13George? I don't think so. I think... People with
- 24:17much more time on their hands have gone over
- 24:22his career really well. But to me, George Foreman's
- 24:25always just going to be more the inspirational
- 24:27guy than anything else. Yeah. I had always wanted
- 24:32a George Foreman grill just because it was George
- 24:34Foreman's. But I never got one as much as I asked
- 24:40for one. Then when I got to my first duty station
- 24:43in the military, I might have told this one.
- 24:46bit already but that was like that was the hot
- 24:49commodity was having a george foreman grill in
- 24:52your room because yeah if everyone got a microwave
- 24:56by default but zapping everything is not very
- 25:01fun you can't microwave a steak right it's exactly
- 25:06right and so sometimes like fridays saturdays
- 25:10and sundays you'll smell like steaks and chicken
- 25:14and stuff going on In the hallway. Like, man,
- 25:17I hate being a fucking new guy right now. Because
- 25:22it would take me like three hours on the bus
- 25:26to get to the shop where I can buy one. And then
- 25:30another three hours getting back. And I don't
- 25:33know if it's that worth it. I got three of them
- 25:38for graduation presents, and my mom is adamant

- 25:50they would be good for Japanese living. Yeah,
- 25:56there's no grounds in the plug -ins here, but
- 26:00the sockets are the same. Oh, really? Yeah. It's
- 26:06all Americanized. I remember them being two,
- 26:09the two prong. Yeah, but I mean, they are two
- 26:13prongs. They're not like British or European.
- 26:18That's what I remember them being like is European.

- 28:43me. Kazuto Ioka, his fight is rescheduled again.
- 28:47Who was he supposed to fight this time? Same
- 28:51guy. Martinez? Yeah. Oh, why did it get rescheduled
- 28:57this time? Oh, no. I think I confused you with
- 29:03the wording. It's not rescheduled again. I just
- 29:06mean it's coming up soon. Oh, the reschedule
- 29:08is happening. Yeah. Okay. I wasn't sure if we
- 29:14had already talked about that on the podcast
- 29:15and I was looking for filler. No, I don't think
- 29:20we did. It's May 11th in Tokyo. That's why I
- 29:26put it up. They just announced the venue. Where's
- 29:29it going to be? And the date. Ota City, which
- 29:32is where he always fights. It's that other side
- 29:35of Tokyo. It's technically still Tokyo, but it's
- 29:39really like Kanagawa. The not so good part? Yeah,
- 29:45well, Tokyo is the name of the prefecture. So
- 29:51what everybody thinks of as Tokyo is kind of
- 29:54like the five or six areas or whatever, but this
- 29:57is the outskirts area right near Yokohama. Ah,
- 30:01I see what you mean. Okay. So the Tokyo prefecture,
- 30:04that would be like a metropolitan area? Well,
- 30:08Tokyo is not the name of the city. Tokyo is the
- 30:12name of the prefecture. Oh, okay. Yep. Clicked.
- 30:16Got it. Yeah. So it's... it's just what everybody
- 30:21calls all those cities that have grown together.
- 30:23Yeah. Okay. I see what you mean. Yeah. It's,
- 30:27it's hard to explain without sounding super douchey,
- 30:30but like if New York was a New York city was
- 30:34a state and the five boroughs would be the cities.
- 30:36Yeah. That's what Tokyo is. Tokyo is actually
- 30:39the prefecture. That's what I had in mind actually
- 30:42was the five boroughs. That's what I was thinking.
- 30:45But. This would be more like whatever city is
- 30:49just outside of New York. I don't know New York
- 30:53at all. Like New Jersey. Yeah, I was going to
- 30:55say, that's exactly what I was going to say.
- 30:58The old Sopranos line jumped to my head. This
- 31:01other pygmy thing over in Jersey. Yeah, so it's
- 31:05in the same place. It's May 11th, and I think
- 31:09I'm going to buy another ticket. Yeah, I was
- 31:12going to ask if you were going to go. You should
- 31:14if you can. I have told myself that I need to
- 31:17go to less boxing matches, because they are starting
- 31:22to add up expense -wise, because I've gotten
- 31:24a little spoiled. I want the nice seats. So they're
- 31:30about $300 an event, which is still very reasonable,
- 31:34but I've gone to a lot of events now. I think
- 31:39I only sprung for seats like that one time. uh
- 31:45where i paid for the front row not on the floor
- 31:48but where the bowl ends yeah that's that's where
- 31:52i've been buying them yeah that's how that's
- 31:55the seats were like 500 they're so nice though
- 31:59i know it was such a perfect view i had perfect
- 32:02view of everything it was the best you can see
- 32:04their feet you can hear the punches half the
- 32:08time i can hear them yelling at each other it's
- 32:10great it's like i'm on that elevated platform
- 32:13where the judges sit where they're just off to
- 32:16the side and they get that one side view but
- 32:18that's what the that's the seat that i like so
- 32:21i either need to be less spoiled and sit farther
- 32:24back which i did at the last one and it was still
- 32:26fine the arenas here are not that big but i'm
- 32:32gonna need to start the hardcore fans club yeah
- 32:36it's gonna be a subscription -based thing where
- 32:40you pay in monthly but then when the when hot
- 32:43tickets come out you'll get them at like 75 %
- 32:46off. That would be awesome. Because you're paying
- 32:49into it for a few months. Speaking of tickets,
- 32:53I totally missed that prospect that I really
- 32:57like. Aoi Yokoyama is fighting today. He fights
- 33:01in, I don't know, like six hours. So I did not
- 33:06get a ticket, but it's going to be on Abima,
- 33:09which nobody's going to hear this before then,
- 33:11but you should watch it. um he's i think the
- 33:17co -main he's fighting for uh asia pacific pacific
- 33:24oriental yeah oriental pacific belt there we
- 33:27go already yeah it's like his third fight or
- 33:30yeah that's that's actually really quick yeah
- 33:34uh the i've been translating he doesn't get any
- 33:38press in english i've been translating the things
- 33:41he puts up on instagram and i If the translation
- 33:44is correct, which it could be, maybe not. And
- 33:48the English wasn't great. But it's the fastest
- 33:51a Japanese boxer has gone for one of those international
- 33:56belts. Maybe in his weight class. Maybe ever.
- 34:00I'm not sure. Like I said, it's Google Translate.
- 34:03But I think I sent it to you. His grandparents'
- 34:08retirement home did another good luck video.
- 34:12I love it. That's the sweetest thing. I thought
- 34:16he was just... I didn't know that it was his
- 34:19grandparents' place, but it makes sense why he's
- 34:21there all the time. Or is that where they live?
- 34:24I might be assuming that it's his grandparents'.
- 34:27Maybe he's just really good friends with one
- 34:30of the old guys, but there's one old guy that's
- 34:32always in his videos that... Again, it's all
- 34:36in Japanese. I assume it's his granddad, but
- 34:39maybe it isn't. Maybe he just volunteers there.
- 34:41Yeah, either way, it's still really cool that
- 34:43he spends a lot of time there. Yeah. I know elder
- 34:47care is a big hot button consideration for the
- 34:52declining birth rate there. Yeah, there's a lot
- 34:57more old people than young people here, unfortunately.
- 35:03That's a lot of the, how would you put it, non
- 35:08-prestigious jobs are done by Incredibly old
- 35:11people here. I think the janitors I see at the
- 35:14university are all in their 70s, at least. Wow.
- 35:18Because young people want good jobs, and there's
- 35:22not enough young people to fill the jobs anyways,
- 35:25so who sweeps the floors? I remember reading
- 35:32somewhere, and this was like 10 years ago, that
- 35:35Japan is headed for its own... korea as well
- 35:39but they're headed towards pandemics and the
- 35:42illness is good it's not going to be contagious
- 35:44so i don't know if pandemic's the right word
- 35:46but like dementia and yeah alzheimer's are going
- 35:51to decimate a large portion of the of the population
- 35:56and there's really no way to stop it well and
- 36:01japan specifically has a lot of intestinal cancers
- 36:07for some reason, which is part of why my research
- 36:11gets funded here with the microbiome stuff. I
- 36:15see. Yeah. But anyways, yeah, the young guy,
- 36:19Aoi Yokoyama, is fighting tonight, and I'm going
- 36:24to watch it. We will report back later. I actually
- 36:27don't even know who's the main event in this
- 36:28one. Is it at Korakuen? I don't know. I didn't
- 36:36really look. I can probably figure it out. Jamal
- 36:42Charlo is coming back on the 31st of May on the
- 36:46Kayla Plant undercard. Nice. All right, why?
- 36:52I don't know. After this long? I don't recognize
- 36:55the way in place, so I'm not sure if he is fighting
- 36:59in Tokyo. I don't think so. None of this looks
- 37:04like Tokyo in the kanji that's not translating.
- 37:09He's fighting a Filipino champion. Jamel Magramo.
- 37:14Is he the Filipino Boxing Federation guy? I don't
- 37:18know. Filipino champ. His name is spelled different.
- 37:24No indications of who Jamal is going to be fighting.
- 37:29They are fighting in some place I have never
- 37:32heard of. I just found it on BoxRec. Aichi Sky
- 37:36Expo in Tokoname. Where the hell is that? No
- 37:41idea. Joshua, next fight moves a step closer
- 37:48and it's going to be either Dubois or Tyson Fury.
- 37:52If you can't get them, it's going to be Joseph
- 37:54Parker. AJ versus Parker might be interesting.
- 38:00I think that Parker would do a lot better this
- 38:03time around. Oh, speaking of heavyweights. Derek
- 38:09Chisora is the IVF mandatory. Are they trying
- 38:14to kill this poor man? What the fuck? I think
- 38:20if they give him a title fight and he loses,
- 38:24he'll walk away. He had his retirement speech
- 38:28before his last fight and then he won it. Yeah,
- 38:31he sent Otto Wallin flying like a full 90 degree
- 38:36turn. The career that won't die. Yeah, hopefully
- 38:42this last one is the final one. Finally. It's
- 38:46just too much. It's too much to watch him keep
- 38:49doing this. Wow. And he always sounds so out
- 38:55of breath. Yeah. I wonder if it's going to go
- 39:00away. Where people are going to be asking questions,
- 39:04like looking back, like why did nobody stop him?
- 39:08I think it's already there. Is it not? I think
- 39:13we're on the cusp of it. And it's just going
- 39:15to take one more like hard shot or hard fight
- 39:18to push him over the edge. And I don't know what
- 39:21over the edge really means. I'm not accusing
- 39:23him of anything. Just saying I think something's
- 39:26going to like with his health is going to click
- 39:28in the wrong way. Right. And people are going
- 39:31to be like, why did we allow this to happen?
- 39:34Well, I mean, he must be passing the physicals,
- 39:37but who knows how hard that is, especially in
- 39:40Britain. I feel like the British Boxing Commission
- 39:43does not take fighters' health super seriously.
- 39:46They do take egg consumption really seriously.
- 39:49Do they? Do they, really? Yeah, you're right.
- 39:54Bob Arum doesn't want Tyson Fury to fight AJ.
- 39:58Bob Arum was saying something about how he wants
- 40:01Tyson to retire, wasn't he? Stay retired. If
- 40:06your retirement is genuine, then stay retired.
- 40:09Don't come out of it. Hasn't he retired like
- 40:12four times? Something like that. Fucking fury.
- 40:16Yeah. Reports indicate that he earned in excess
- 40:19of 100 million US for the two Usyk fights. Why
- 40:25would you come back? I would just... $100 million.
- 40:31You could live off that forever. You could live
- 40:33off the interest forever. Yeah. This is why I
- 40:38would never be a world -class anything. I would
- 40:41get just enough money and I would quit. You step
- 40:44in to fight AJ. AJ is trying to prove that he
- 40:48still belongs, whereas Fury kind of already has.
- 40:52Well, and Fury also has kind of looked like shit.
- 40:57off and on many times. Yeah. I don't like it.
- 41:04I agree with Bob here. Uncle Bob knows what he's
- 41:08talking about right now, Tyson. Speaking of slamming,
- 41:13Bruce Carrington says Espinoza doesn't want to
- 41:16fight him? Yeah, he was twittering about how
- 41:22Espinoza is ducking him. Pretty sure it was twitter.
- 41:27I don't know if I believe that very much. No,
- 41:30I don't believe it at all. I think Espinoza will
- 41:33fight anyone. He may not be built like your typical
- 41:39Mexican fighter, and he doesn't always necessarily
- 41:43fight like one, but the pride is there, and it's
- 41:49not a good idea. That's not the beehive you want
- 41:51to poke on a Mexican fighter. There are other
- 41:54things you can do, but... That's inadvisable.
- 41:58Yeah, I don't know. I don't think I would want
- 42:00to piss Espinoza off before a fight. I would
- 42:04be so boring. I would be so respectful. Don't
- 42:09give anybody any fuel. Yeah, they're really good.
- 42:13Did you see their last fight? They won by a knockout.
- 42:15That was incredible. Wow. Let's everyone take
- 42:19a moment. I guess there are quite a few fighters
- 42:24like that, actually. Yeah, a lot of them have
- 42:28to be translated. Yeah, well, even like... Who
- 42:33am I thinking of? No, lost it. Anyway, there's
- 42:37some in English, too, that are always just really
- 42:39nice. I always kind of wonder, too, how much
- 42:42of the translated guys, they're just not translating
- 42:45it properly. It happens a lot. Like, I don't
- 42:49actually understand any other languages, but
- 42:52sometimes I'm like, that is not... what you said
- 42:55i don't think i try my best whenever i'm in um
- 42:59if i'm in discord for with everybody and there's
- 43:03a spanish translation i try my best to uh throw
- 43:07my own on top of it just because yeah the translators
- 43:11are usually ass the ones that have been good
- 43:14the uh like scottish guy that's on the zone with
- 43:20the notebook yeah him He seems really good. He
- 43:25even says it the same way in English. He puts
- 43:29the same feeling behind the words when he translates.
- 43:32The Thai translator at 1FC is really good that
- 43:37way as well. He gives the same emphasis bidirectionally
- 43:42on the same enthusiasm. The Brazilian translator
- 43:47for UFC is good. Most recently, Ola Squaga's
- 43:55translator. It was a Japanese woman. I don't
- 43:59like her. You know? No. Not the English one.
- 44:04It was the Spanish. Oh, okay. Yeah, no. I don't
- 44:08know that one. No, the one who does English in
- 44:12Japan, I don't like her translations. I don't
- 44:15think they're very good. Very cutesy voice. Is
- 44:18that who we're thinking of? Yeah, it's not necessarily
- 44:22her voice that bothers me. No, yeah, that's just
- 44:24how I remember her. I pick up enough of the words.
- 44:28I'm like, that's not really what he was saying.
- 44:31Yeah, Felix de Jesus was like that. I'm glad
- 44:34he didn't get picked back up for PBC on Prime.
- 44:39Terrible. Yeah, I really like that Scottish guy,
- 44:41though. Like, it's a weird thing to say, but
- 44:45he is my favorite translator. When I see him
- 44:47at the cards, I'm like, yes. No, it's a real
- 44:51thing. Not getting the real feeling of what somebody
- 44:56is actually saying, you're losing a lot of real,
- 45:02it's not like atmosphere, but it's a real, it's
- 45:06a serious ingredient, is having the fighter's
- 45:09perspectives. yeah that's makes parts of part
- 45:13of what makes understanding their native language
- 45:15good yeah uh like felix say one a guy would go
- 45:21off saying uh i had a really great opponent he
- 45:25was really tough but we prepared for everything
- 45:27and we came out on top and then the translator
- 45:30will say like yeah we did we got the job done
- 45:32so i'm sorry that's not what he said that's not
- 45:36what he said yeah uh but Man, I'm going to have
- 45:41to get the names of these people because there's
- 45:43this other guy. He does Spanish and he's it's
- 45:46not the Scottish guy, but he also does his own
- 45:48stuff. He does the like Islander Spanish. He
- 45:53translates that really well because I like the
- 45:56Cubans. Yeah, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans.
- 45:59I struggle understanding with them sometimes.
- 46:01The blonde lady that does the English and Spanish
- 46:05interviews on the zone. She seems really good,
- 46:08too. And it impresses me how she switches back
- 46:11and forth all the time. Probox has one like that,
- 46:15too. It's also a blonde lady. A little younger,
- 46:18though. Yeah. I'm always impressed when people
- 46:21can switch like that. On the fly? Yeah. Speaking
- 46:27of on the fly, Terra Moana with another early
- 46:32stoppage. If you're not watching Terra Moana,
- 46:35you should be. Five fights in 2024. Five stoppages.
- 46:40Kicking off 2026 with a stoppage. Does the dance
- 46:44afterwards. He toned it down. I didn't appreciate
- 46:49that. So you're going to have to step it up next
- 46:52time, buddy. Needing to step it up. Fucking Cambosos.
- 46:58Goes the distance with a late replacement no
- 47:02one's ever heard of. Except Jacob in the Discord.
- 47:05The Aussie Jacob? Oh, yeah. Apparently he fights
- 47:08with him from the same gym. Oh, shit. He was
- 47:12at the fights cheering for him. Actually, in
- 47:15the second half, Wiley was doing well. Maybe
- 47:21not winning, but doing well. Yeah, I was going
- 47:24to say, like, he held his own. I wonder, giving,
- 47:28pardon the expression, but giving Cambosos the
- 47:31benefit of the doubt here. Like, this is a late
- 47:34replacement. You have no idea who he is. You
- 47:37probably can't find any footage on him, so you
- 47:39don't know what to expect. You're kind of game
- 47:43planning on the fly, maybe? No. No? Campbell
- 47:49has no fucking excuses on this one. That Wiley
- 47:54guy came in, he looked... Odd by the moment.
- 47:59He was nervous. He was stiff. He looked like
- 48:02shit in the first three rounds. And Kambosis,
- 48:05I think he got a knockdown. Maybe. But he didn't
- 48:11finish it. He let him get into the fight in the
- 48:14second half. Kambosis should be much too good
- 48:18for these domestic fights. He should not be going
- 48:21the distance. Especially not with a late replacement.
- 48:26I don't think Wiley was particularly impressive,
- 48:30to be honest. I think Cambosis was just shit.
- 48:34I'm glad that Wiley went the distance. He looks
- 48:36super fucking happy with that accomplishment,
- 48:39and he should be. Yeah, it's a real -life Rocky
- 48:41story. Yeah, but, like... Cambosis should be
- 48:46ashamed of himself. He should be, though. I don't
- 48:49know. I don't understand how he keeps getting
- 48:51fights. He has the best fucking manager promoter
- 48:55team in boxing. He has turned one kind of fluke
- 48:59win. Not a fluke. He deserved that win. He beat
- 49:03Teofimo. But he turned one win into fucking ten
- 49:09big fights. Yeah. At least like the bigger ones.
- 49:13The better of his opponents have been really
- 49:17messing him up. Like Lomachenko really took him
- 49:20to school. yeah that was nice confused who was
- 49:26it recently that had a late replacement and uh
- 49:29they bopped him out in the first like three rounds
- 49:31and that was they said exactly what you said
- 49:35like this is the late replacement joseph parker
- 49:38it wasn't a heavyweight well i mean joseph parker
- 49:42beat i'm bad with names but coley right super
- 49:45fast came in super fat yes It wasn't who I was
- 49:50thinking of, but that's good enough of an example.
- 49:53That's what you're supposed to do. You got dudes
- 49:56coming in on three days notice. Don't let them
- 49:59get very far. Right. You're the one that's fully
- 50:02prepared. Even if the game plan has to change,
- 50:05you are a boxer. You're supposed to be able to
- 50:07make the adjustments. Yeah. Cambosis should not
- 50:11be going the distance with any of those domestic
- 50:14level guys in Australia. Plot twist. He is a
- 50:17domestic -level Australian guy. This is true.
- 50:21So he's doing exactly what he should be doing.
- 50:26Because he never should have been world -class?
- 50:29No, he should not have been. Maybe, but... Then
- 50:34everybody should acknowledge that. Stop giving
- 50:37him good fights. Right. You can have him headline
- 50:42these domestic dust -ups. But definitely keep
- 50:45them off of a... That should have been Princess
- 50:50Skies. Oh, yeah. Her headlining the downfall.
- 50:55Actually, I missed that fight. I forgot to put
- 50:58it on the outline. Did you not see it? No, I
- 51:01missed it. It was good. I heard she deserved
- 51:05the loss. She did. I would say that she was just
- 51:09a little bit behind. Not enough aggression. Just
- 51:13a little too slow. A little too heavy in the
- 51:18feet. Just a shade, not enough. And with that
- 51:24compounding round over round, yeah. She deserved
- 51:30that loss. Can't say I'm too upset by it. I am
- 51:34not a Sky fan. No, I only really mentioned her
- 51:39for the same reason I mentioned Tension so much.
- 51:43Yeah, because it annoys the hell out of me. Just
- 51:45to needle you a little bit. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I
- 51:49completely forgot to get the fight order on this
- 51:53one. There's a few cards coming up that are all
- 51:58really fun. I don't even have it open. It should
- 52:03be on your website, right? I wanted to... No,
- 52:07I have the other doc right next to it. I had
- 52:12it. I thought I did anyway. All right. Yeah,
- 52:15the website has all the details. Look at me.
- 52:18I'm really good at this. I just pulled up the
- 52:21LVXmedia .net calendar. And it's a good one.
- 52:30What do we got here? Somebody did say it looks
- 52:36like the blue screen of death, and now I can't
- 52:38unsee it. Yeah, it was Bally. Yeah. I'll have
- 52:43to find a new shade of blue, but the idea is
- 52:47all the boxing stuff is blue, all the MMA stuff
- 52:50is red. Ah, that makes sense. Only the top three
- 52:55stick out to me. Yocasta Valle, who beat Senisa
- 53:00Estrada, eat your own shit, Chris Mannix. Yeah.
- 53:05I don't know about this one, though. I actually,
- 53:08in the pick league, I picked Esparza. So, Vale's
- 53:13moving up two weight classes. Oh, shit, that's
- 53:16right. And Esparza's only moving down one. So,
- 53:21Esparza's gonna be big. Esparza's been looking
- 53:25like shit lately, though. Yeah, but she's also
- 53:29tough as nails. Yeah. And she's gonna be big.
- 53:36She's coming from 15 pounds heavier than Valet's
- 53:40last fight. They're meeting at 12 pounds heavier.
- 53:45That's a lot. It is. It is a big jump. We'll
- 53:50see. I, you know, I've been wrong before, but
- 53:54I'm calling an upset on this one. I think Esparza
- 53:57is going to be too big and too tough, and Valet's
- 54:00not going to be able to prevent her from just
- 54:02swarming. Like Esparza does. Yocasta Valle, born
- 54:11in Nicaragua, lives in Costa Rica. She is the
- 54:15jungle goddess, jungle warrior goddess. Nice.
- 54:19And then, cute as fuck, Marlon Esparza. I'm going
- 54:26with my warrior goddess here. That's fine. I
- 54:30don't think Marlon has it anymore as much as
- 54:34it pains me to say. Maybe. I don't know. I have
- 54:39a feeling she's going to be too big. I think
- 54:43they are underestimating Esparza and it's going
- 54:47to piss her off. With how she's looked recently,
- 54:51yeah. I can see why she'd be underestimated.
- 54:56We'll see. I like Esparza. Speaking of underestimated,
- 55:01Oscar Collazo, the WBO minimum weight champion.
- 55:06Underestimated. I'm not... Wanted that to mean
- 55:10he's short, but I couldn't make it work. Versus
- 55:14Edwin Cano Hernandez. I'm expecting Collazo to
- 55:19make easy work of this. Yeah. I was debating
- 55:23whether to put down knockout or not. I don't
- 55:25think I put any guesses on... type of win and
- 55:31the rematch williams zapata versus tevin farmer
- 55:35holy shit the first i'm excited the first one
- 55:38was great i expect the second to be the same
- 55:42yeah yeah i'm i'm really torn on this one i don't
- 55:49even know who to cheer for i really like zapata
- 55:51but i think farmer deserves a win finally. He
- 55:58always gets fucked. I thought he won the first
- 56:01one. I did too, and they stole it from him. Yeah,
- 56:05just by virtue of the knockdown, that being the
- 56:07deciding factor. I don't think this... I wonder
- 56:13if Zepeda turns up the heat a little sooner.
- 56:18Yeah, I think Zepeda will not be as surprised
- 56:21this time. Right. I think Zepeda underestimated
- 56:26Farmer a bit in the first fight. Mm -mm -mm.
- 56:30Underestimating Kazakhstan? Johnny Beck's next
- 56:33fight is going to be in Kazakhstan? That's pretty
- 56:36damn cool. I thought it was cool. I don't recognize
- 56:40anyone's name on this card, but... I have them
- 56:44split into the two that really matter. Well,
- 56:47and maybe I just don't know how to read the names.
- 56:50Maybe I'll recognize them when you say them.
- 56:53Baturzan Jukambayev, you should remember from
- 56:55Probox, he fought on Probox like four times.
- 56:58I'm not sure who Con Gardner is. That is not
- 57:02how I was reading that. And Johnnybeckalimkanuli,
- 57:08Phlem the KH, pro tip. Yeah. Man, this guy is...
- 57:17This guy. I think I got that one. Apparently
- 57:22he's from France? He's from somewhere... He's
- 57:29born in the Congo. Yeah. His nationality is listed
- 57:34as French. Yeah, former colonies. Yeah, I think
- 57:41this one's on ESPN+. It is. This one will be
- 57:43starting around one or two on the West Coast.
- 57:49I am just... I always like seeing these smaller
- 57:52countries get some recognition. And it's nice
- 57:57that Janabek gets to fight at home. Yeah. You
- 58:01know, like, I wonder how Golovkin is going to
- 58:05look. Because he's going to be there. Yeah. I
- 58:08wonder how he's going to look fat. Maybe. Man,
- 58:13I was working it out. I was getting close to
- 58:16getting like a sample package of Triple G's energy
- 58:20drink sent from Astana, sent to me. That would
- 58:26be really cool. Yeah, I would pay for the product
- 58:30and they would ship it for free. That's what
- 58:32we were working on. Nice. I was excited for it
- 58:37would just be. Like, two of each flavor they
- 58:39had, which I think they only have three. Still,
- 58:42though. Yeah. Not available outside of Kazakhstan
- 58:46at the moment. I'm excited to just kind of see
- 58:49what the Kazakhstan crowd looks like. Like, are
- 58:52they going to be super hype? Is it going to be
- 58:54quiet? I hope so. What clothes are they going
- 58:58to wear? Is it just going to be normal stuff,
- 59:00or are people going to come in, like... Fur coats
- 59:02and big poofy hats? Well, I mean, it's... Probably
- 59:07not cold this time of year, but Canada doesn't
- 59:12have it. But like, if I was going to be going
- 59:15to something on TV and I was from one of these
- 59:18countries with cool traditional clothes, I would
- 59:21dress the fuck out of my national clothes. Yeah,
- 59:24wear traditional style clothing. I think it'd
- 59:29be cool. It would be cool. That's what I hope
- 59:32to see. And I know they don't do it, but if they
- 59:36thought in Ukraine, I would love to see the ladies
- 59:38in the dresses. There's a very specific Ukrainian
- 59:43style dress that they wear when they do the dances
- 59:45in Saskatchewan. Maybe it's not even a thing
- 59:47in Ukraine anymore. There's a lot of those old
- 59:52traditions in Canada that have been dropped by
- 59:54the original country. Oh, well, speaking of being
- 59:58dropped by the original country, Tim Zoo. Yeah,
- 1:00:04this one starts at about five on the West Coast.
- 1:00:10This will be 5 a .m. or 5 p .m. p .m. This will
- 1:00:13be like Sunday morning for you. Yeah, there's
- 1:00:19only like three fights really worth paying attention
- 1:00:21to anyway. Andre Mikhailovich versus Blake Wells.
- 1:00:26Mikhailovich is the dude he fought. in australia
- 1:00:32most recently oh yeah i recognize his face yeah
- 1:00:37uh cohen mazutier he's a good prospect he's 12
- 1:00:43four and one so i don't know what you want to
- 1:00:45call him but uh he's he's good to watch so that
- 1:00:50should be a fun fight and i expect dan hill being
- 1:00:52seven and one they're giving him a bit probably
- 1:00:54giving him more of the push and mazutier is like
- 1:00:57the Top of the domestic level sort of geeky.
- 1:01:03A test before you go farther. Yeah. And Tim Zoo
- 1:01:08versus Joey Spencer. I'm not sure how I feel
- 1:01:12about this. Joey Spencer's not very good. Yeah,
- 1:01:18Tim Zoo needs a confidence booster, though. Right.
- 1:01:21I mean, for Zoo's career, this is the right thing
- 1:01:26to do. He looked... scared in that last fight
- 1:01:29yeah like they had was it a head clash and he
- 1:01:36kept checking for blood like what kind of ptsd
- 1:01:40to me it kind of was like being afraid of another
- 1:01:45gash i mean man he lost so much blood in that
- 1:01:50pandora fight i would be scared too but If he
- 1:01:55wants to be a world -level boxer, he's got to
- 1:01:57get over it. Right. I think this is what this
- 1:02:00is, is getting over it. Giving him a bit of a
- 1:02:03soft touch, get some round -ins, realize I'm
- 1:02:08not going to get cut every fight like that. I
- 1:02:12noticed that they keep referring to Joey Spencer
- 1:02:15as dangerous. That's what they keep calling him
- 1:02:18in all of the promo stuff. Is he, though? Right.
- 1:02:21Yeah, no, he's not. His picture on BoxRec, he
- 1:02:28looks like he's 12. Yeah, he does have a very
- 1:02:31young -looking face. He does, and I'm sure in
- 1:02:34that picture he's not 12, but he looks like some
- 1:02:38middle school football player. I don't know.
- 1:02:43I hope Tim Zhu does what he's supposed to do.
- 1:02:46I hope he gets in there and he kind of takes
- 1:02:48care of business in the first half of the fight.
- 1:02:51Yeah, the way he should, right? Yeah. Get some
- 1:02:55confidence back. Give him maybe another pest
- 1:03:00-ish afterwards. Like something he should win,
- 1:03:04but should be a little difficult. And then try
- 1:03:07and get him back in the world title hunt. All
- 1:03:11assuming that, you know, he doesn't get bopped
- 1:03:15trying to check for blood again. Oh, that wouldn't
- 1:03:18be good. No. If he loses to Joey Spencer, he
- 1:03:22should. be done pack it in yeah yeah oh damn
- 1:03:29no good setups for a segue there uh moving to
- 1:03:32richard torres this is a busy ass day yeah this
- 1:03:39one's this one's later though right uh it'll
- 1:03:42be at about seven so no i mean it's next week
- 1:03:46oh right is it not like april 6th or something
- 1:03:51Or I guess probably the 5th. It'll be your Saturday,
- 1:03:54my Sunday. April 5th. Yeah, it's on the same
- 1:03:59day. Just later in the day. Yeah. The main event,
- 1:04:04if they have Abdullah Mason as the co -main,
- 1:04:06which if you're smart, that's what you do. The
- 1:04:10main and co -main should be done after Tim Zhu.
- 1:04:14The whole day lines up actually really nicely.
- 1:04:17So you have Queensberry. At the top with Joe
- 1:04:22Joyce and Filip Hergovich. That's kind of the
- 1:04:27only fight worth anything on there. That should
- 1:04:31be happening. How did I miss that on the outline?
- 1:04:33I really want Joe Joyce to make a comeback. I
- 1:04:36don't think he's going to, but I want another
- 1:04:39Joe Joyce title run. I think he'll get past this.
- 1:04:43I think he'll be okay. That card should be wrapping
- 1:04:48up. At about the time we're getting to the top
- 1:04:53two for the Kazakhstan card. And that should
- 1:04:58be wrapping up about the time the main portion
- 1:05:01of PBC is starting on Prime, which should be
- 1:05:05wrapping up about the time the main portion starts
- 1:05:09for Top Rank. That is a busy day, though. It
- 1:05:12is. It's a nice day, though. It's a nice Saturday.
- 1:05:17That is going to be, if I want to watch it all,
- 1:05:19that's going to be me staying up all fucking
- 1:05:22night. Yeah, through the entire night, right?
- 1:05:25Yeah. Yeah, the British stuff, the main events
- 1:05:29are usually about 2am. That's all we got here,
- 1:05:34though. I don't have anything else. Let me do
- 1:05:36this real quick. You've been listening to the

- 1:06:58after the... This will be heading into the weekend
- 1:07:06of the upcoming cards. Yeah. So, parting words.
- 1:07:11What do you got? Parting words. Eat your vegetables.
- 1:07:20Drink water. Eat fruit for breakfast. If you're
- 1:07:28going to have sugar, have it in the morning.
- 1:07:32Oh, another update. That Saskatchewan taking
- 1:07:38Budweiser off the shelves and all that stuff
- 1:07:41didn't even last a full week. Not even a full
- 1:07:44week. Nope, I think. They started lobbying them,
- 1:07:50like the local government guys started lobbying
- 1:07:54the provincial government guys two days in, and
- 1:07:58they pulled the ban, I think, within five days.
- 1:08:02Didn't even last a whole work week. Wow. I told
- 1:08:07you the farmers would get pissed off and this
- 1:08:10would get taken care of. Yeah. I saw a video
- 1:08:14actually online. It was the farmers like dumping
- 1:08:18shit on. Was it? Yeah. On people like government
- 1:08:23buildings or people's lawns. Yeah. Blocking their
- 1:08:28driveways with a big pile of dookies. I mean,
- 1:08:33it's a pretty effective form of protest. And
- 1:08:37it's not just a Saskatchewan thing. I think the
- 1:08:40French farmers use it a lot. But the French are
- 1:08:44the best at protesting. Yeah. We want to lower
- 1:08:49the retirement age by a week. Absolutely the
- 1:08:53fuck not. All right, I got a quote for this one.
- 1:08:59A little more persistence, a little more effort.
- 1:09:02And what seemed hopeless failure may turn to
- 1:09:04glorious success, says Albert Hubbard. So when
- 1:09:08you're wondering, man, can I stay awake to watch
- 1:09:12four fucking boxing cards in a row all back to
- 1:09:17back? Just a little more persistence. Yeah. I'll
- 1:09:22just have to sleep all day Saturday, I guess.
- 1:09:24Yeah. But that'll do it. We be out of here. Bye.
- 1:09:41Welcome to the fucking show! Alright, just a
- 1:09:44quick blurb, just so you can get back to what
- 1:09:46you were doing. Why would a boxing fan, let's
- 1:09:52assume they're like a purist or some shit, why
- 1:09:56would they want to watch MMA, why would they
- 1:09:59want to listen to an MMA show? I'm gonna come
- 1:10:02at this from sort of like a primal level. So,
- 1:10:05I will admit there are like some very, like...
- 1:10:08unique and like stark differences between mma
- 1:10:11and boxing and it seems like one of the main
- 1:10:14things that uh keeps boxing fans away from mma
- 1:10:18is the grappling aspect and yes sometimes it
- 1:10:21can be you know a lay and pray uh type of fight
- 1:10:25and it can get old but man like it's just instinctual
- 1:10:31man some of these people the way they find an
- 1:10:33mma It's just brutal. And I feel like that's
- 1:10:36what it comes down to when it comes to being
- 1:10:38a combat fan, a combat sports fan. I mean, we
- 1:10:43saw it just recently. Mauricio Rufi versus Bobby
- 1:10:48Green spinning back or spinning a wheel kick.
- 1:10:54Man, I mean, they went viral. And it's something
- 1:10:57that everyone can appreciate, even boxing fans.
- 1:10:59I know if you have a few friends that are boxing
- 1:11:01fans. who I sent him that clip. I mean, and they
- 1:11:06were amazed. One even told me that they wish
- 1:11:10they would have seen it live because seeing that
- 1:11:13type of stuff live just elicits, like, a euphoric
- 1:11:18feeling that, you know, you can't get. I mean,
- 1:11:20it happens in boxing, too, whenever you see,
- 1:11:22like, an amazing fight. But I just got to say,
- 1:11:25like, in MMA, you get those type of fights as
- 1:11:30well, just in a different type. It's different,
- 1:11:33but sort of the same. It's sort of weird how
- 1:11:36I describe it, but it's different, but the same.
- 1:11:38It comes down to that same like carnal or primal
- 1:11:41instinct of just like fights. Yeah, I always
- 1:11:46think like the biggest, the easiest transition
- 1:11:49that I always recommend, I say this all the time
- 1:11:52on Ultimate Fucking Casuals, is if you're not
- 1:11:56too keen on the grappling, Muay Thai and kickboxing.
- 1:12:02are exactly where you want to start. Like, you
- 1:12:05start working on the kicks, the elbows, the knees,
- 1:12:07all that stuff, and you can come to learn to
- 1:12:12appreciate grappling. I never thought I would,
- 1:12:15and here I am. Yeah. Like I said, some of it
- 1:12:19is very boring, some of the grappling. It depends
- 1:12:21on the fighters, but sometimes, man, there's
- 1:12:23boring boxing fights all the time. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:12:26no, yeah, you're true. I mean... Oh, you're right.
- 1:12:28But, man, some of these grapplers, man, these
- 1:12:31scrambles that they do, it is, like, pretty crazy
- 1:12:34just to see it. Like, you know, rolling around
- 1:12:37the floor. I mean, you can see the stuff that
- 1:12:39they're doing in between and the scrambles. I
- 1:12:41mean, it's sort of crazy. Flipping someone over,
- 1:12:43the trips. I mean, it can be fun. But, yeah,
- 1:12:46you're right. The easiest transition is definitely
- 1:12:48start out with Muay Thai, kickboxing, and, you
- 1:12:51know, slowly work your way into MMA. And, you
- 1:12:54know, this is the thing about... Of the ultimate
- 1:12:57fucking casuals. We will let you know which fights
- 1:12:59are going to be good. Which ones, you know, if
- 1:13:03you're not too in tune with the grappling, we
- 1:13:05can get maybe a little tag or a little asterisk
- 1:13:09on certain fights saying, like, this is a boxing
- 1:13:13purist type of fight. You can watch this and
- 1:13:15enjoy this. Like, we'll let you know. Yeah, we
- 1:13:20always try. Like, I came into this. The whole
- 1:13:23show was started with me. I didn't know shit.
- 1:13:26about MMA. I'd never really seen an MMA fight
- 1:13:28in its entirety in my entire life. And I came
- 1:13:32into this with nothing. And yeah, that's where
- 1:13:34we're at now is like, we're talking to like,
- 1:13:36I make sure I go out of my way to bring up Muay
- 1:13:40Thai and bring up kickboxing so that people know
- 1:13:43like this for boxing fans to know this is what,
- 1:13:47this is where you can start. All right. Well,
