- 0:06Hello and welcome to two girls in the pod.
- 0:08I'm Sharon. I am Christy.
- 0:11Hello hello hello Hope all of you are doing well.
- 0:17You know, a little technical difficulties here, but we got it
- 0:19all under control. Yep.
- 0:25Let's see today. We're talking about.
- 0:27We're talking about. The.
- 0:30Ways that we love one another. Yeah.
- 0:35And and you know, I think, you know why I think this is
- 0:37fascinating to me is because The Five Love languages.
- 0:44I'm telling you, it's a great book.
- 0:46That's all. But people take that so
- 0:49literally sometimes. As a therapist, it's difficult
- 0:53for me. Yeah, I understand what they're
- 0:56the book is saying and and all of that, But I think sometimes
- 1:00when we do stuff like that, we limit ourselves.
- 1:02There are, I think, that we there are so many ways to show
- 1:06how we love people, and those ways can vary from person to
- 1:09person and even from situation to situation, I think.
- 1:15Relationships are different. Yes, they are.
- 1:18But you know I think that we've talked about that you know how
- 1:23does how does somebody know that you you love them.
- 1:25And and I think sometimes it's kind of an interesting thing
- 1:28because you know what I would teach parenting class.
- 1:31I always found it fascinating that when we would I would ask
- 1:34that question how do your children know you love them the
- 1:36women. Well, I I hug them and I tell
- 1:39them and I, you know, I play with them or you know, they
- 1:42would men. Well, I fix the bike.
- 1:46I hear up the tire. I, you know make sure there's
- 1:48plenty of money. I do.
- 1:50You see what I mean? And each one, I think, truly,
- 1:54truly was loving their children. Exactly.
- 1:57Do you see what I mean? And and you do the best that you
- 2:00can and I think that that's what they're doing when they're, you
- 2:03know, doing stuff like that. I mean, my dad was a workaholic
- 2:06growing up and he, he was doing his best and providing for his
- 2:10family and now is definitely the way that he showed love.
- 2:15And I mean not the only way. I'm really grateful that my dad
- 2:18was really, you know, he was connected with me and so it's
- 2:22not like he was disengaged, even though he was working a lot.
- 2:26And I have to say the same thing for my dad.
- 2:28You know, sometimes he would be out there playing, you know, he
- 2:30would shoot for this. He would do different things.
- 2:33You know what my dad was not wanting to say I love you that,
- 2:36but that king, you know, it would time that king.
- 2:39And you know, after that, I don't remember my dad ever
- 2:42hanging up the phone without saying I love you.
- 2:45We've always been a family that has always done that.
- 2:47We've always said I love you and I know there are families out
- 2:50there that don't. And not that they don't love
- 2:52each other. It's just not part of their how
- 2:55they express it or whatever. And and it's not that any way is
- 2:58the wrong way. But I think sometimes people
- 3:01might feel like they're loving the wrong way or something.
- 3:04I don't know. But I think the bigger thing is,
- 3:08is sometimes we will say I love you, but there has to be a
- 3:12behavior that follows, there has to be something that matches up
- 3:17with it and I think that's sometimes where I see that
- 3:19breakdown. Yeah, definitely.
- 3:21I mean, you can feel when there's an incongruency in what
- 3:23somebody's saying and and how they're treating you.
- 3:27And it's the other thing that's interesting to me is in all
- 3:30these years I've been a therapist where people sit there
- 3:32and say, well, I don't know how to do that.
- 3:35And sometimes they marry into a family and it's like, why y'all
- 3:40you know, they, they don't do the touchy feely.
- 3:42They don't, you know, all of those things.
- 3:44They just don't do. And there are some cultures
- 3:47that, you know, they they base that idea of, you know, it's
- 3:51about love, but that's about supporting an entire family.
- 3:56Sometimes you have extended families that live together and
- 3:58that and they think that, you know, traditionally this is how
- 4:02you show your love. Is that you basically I mean
- 4:07share that whole responsibility of of everything.
- 4:11And I mean, so that's different than even what you see a lot of
- 4:14times here in the US. Well, I think the other thing
- 4:17that's really funny is I have a friend from Japan and as a
- 4:21Christmas gift I gave her a thing to call her mom for the
- 4:23holiday. And so she does and and I'm
- 4:26listening to her talk and I'm thinking, I wonder if they're
- 4:28mad at each other because it the the tones or whatever.
- 4:32So when she gets off the phone, I says, or did you tell your mom
- 4:36you loved her? And she looks at me, she goes,
- 4:39no, because they don't have to it.
- 4:42It's very respectful. They know that.
- 4:44It's just a different thing. And I was like, oh, interesting,
- 4:50I was a lot younger than they didn't know as many things, I
- 4:52guess, but it was, it was fascinating and and I find, you
- 4:56know, you know, even looking culturally and stuff like that,
- 4:58our culture determines some of that stuff.
- 5:01There's a lot of different things that go into that.
- 5:03And you know, even when you marry into different cultures
- 5:08how that expression of love is, sometimes it's through food.
- 5:11Yeah. You know they love you, 'cause
- 5:13they're cooking for you. In the South, that's for sure
- 5:16what they try to do. I think that's in the Latin
- 5:18culture too. Yeah, they definitely try to
- 5:23love people up by over feeding them.
- 5:25They're. Like Aquista Comida, Yeah,
- 5:29that's what you need. More food.
- 5:31But you know, I mean, it's it's all of those things.
- 5:34But the thing that I find that people talk to me the most about
- 5:38when it comes to love is this person says that they love me,
- 5:41but I don't feel that where I don't see it or I don't or it's
- 5:47like I really love when you touch me like that and then they
- 5:50probably go and do something different.
- 5:53It's like, I don't get it. I don't, but I this is something
- 5:57that's been a it. It's kind of interesting because
- 5:59it's been kind of a little theme with my clients for about maybe
- 6:03a month. I'll use that.
- 6:05But that's interesting to me because it's like, how do you
- 6:08know, You know? And then like some parents,
- 6:10well, jeez, I don't even feel like my teens love me, man.
- 6:12They don't even talk to me. And I always remind them.
- 6:15They're just, it's not that they stop loving you, it's that
- 6:17they're gross in that and they're into their finding their
- 6:21identity and all of those other things that are relevant and
- 6:23important to them. So I think that's a huge thing
- 6:26because we we look at the behaviors and we we we make them
- 6:30about us. We.
- 6:32Take them all. Personally, and I was, and I had
- 6:35my clients do the four agreements.
- 6:37Don't take things personally. Don't make assumptions.
- 6:42Do your best and well, speak your truth and do your best.
- 6:47Basically, say what you mean and mean what you say.
- 6:49Right. And if I'm not taking it and and
- 6:52I'm not making an assumption, if somebody doesn't react to
- 6:55respond, that doesn't mean they don't love me.
- 6:59And if I don't feel that, if I if I'm not feeling that love,
- 7:03how can I get comfortable to ask or to say I need you to do this
- 7:09or I need you to do that. But then some people with the
- 7:11love languages, I love that. Well, you know my love is
- 7:14gifting. Yeah.
- 7:17And the fall by the other one saying, well, you know, my love
- 7:19was physical touch. Oh yeah, but that's not my love
- 7:23language, You know, they're sort of like, OK, you know, we're a
- 7:26little more diverse than that. Y'all we can move around in
- 7:29these love languages. But but sometimes people
- 7:32understand that the love languages, I think were just a
- 7:35definition of the different types of love.
- 7:36Not that it's not been made to take literally it in that
- 7:40aspect. It's to say these are different
- 7:42forms of showing love, and people might fall into one
- 7:46category more than the other, but it's not that I'm only one.
- 7:51Yeah, definitely not one-dimensional.
- 7:52I've never read the book, but I think that it it, it sounds like
- 7:56that. I mean, I would guess that the
- 7:58mess more of the message would be that you would really maybe
- 8:02this is where you really shine, but not that that's the only way
- 8:07that the only. Place you can shine.
- 8:09Yeah. But.
- 8:10But I think that maybe it's because people struggle with
- 8:12that. And you know, sometimes it's how
- 8:14do we develop into the loving person that we are and how we
- 8:19express that love, I think is part of our upbringing.
- 8:24It's part. I think there's some of that
- 8:26that's intrinsic to us as well. You know what I mean?
- 8:29But I think that that thing of how do I show love?
- 8:32Because I I hear this. I really want my spouse to my
- 8:37wife and my husband to do this because that's what I real
- 8:40That's how I feel loved. But they only do this.
- 8:43But they, you know, and I'm they're like, OK, but I
- 8:46understand that's how you feel love, but it's is it the only
- 8:49way you're capable of feeling love.
- 8:52And want to get stuck. One of the key things, I think
- 8:55it always goes back to communication.
- 8:59And you know, if you're not getting what you feel like that
- 9:02you need, you need to be able to at least communicate to that
- 9:05person. And I think to be able to be
- 9:09aware of can be present with people.
- 9:13And So what I mean by that is if I'm being present with people
- 9:16and I'm listening, we you can figure out what's important to
- 9:21them. So if we have a, we have a
- 9:23friend who gifting is really her way of saying I love you because
- 9:29she's very consciously aware of it or whatever.
- 9:31And you can you just see it in her and you see it and you feel
- 9:33it when she gives it to you. But if I'm sitting there
- 9:36thinking I really would like for her to tell me, she let me know.
- 9:39Whatever that is, I'm not going to feel it.
- 9:42I I'm so in here that I'm not paying attention to hear of to
- 9:48what I'm really experiencing in that exchange.
- 9:51Yeah, sometimes we have such an idea of what we think love
- 9:55should look like or whatever. And and we are not realizing
- 10:00some of the things that that other person is doing is that
- 10:02that's what they're trying to convey.
- 10:05But we're not receiving the message because of what our idea
- 10:08is. That no preconceived idea, our
- 10:11perspective on what love is, you know, and I think that the
- 10:17beauty of love is we have the capacity to love in so many
- 10:21different ways and we love people differently.
- 10:23You know what I mean? And there's so many degrees and
- 10:26layers of it, which I think is wonderful, you know?
- 10:29And people love their children different than they love their
- 10:32spouse. We love our friends.
- 10:33We love our our, our acquaintances, you know, just
- 10:37just in general. We just love differently and we
- 10:39don't show that love the same way to everybody because of the
- 10:44degree of intimacy and all of that that goes into it.
- 10:48And there's a lot of people have some convoluted ideas about like
- 10:52what love should look like or or there's like jealousy or things
- 10:57like that. They think that somehow they're
- 11:01not feeling the love because they feel like that you're
- 11:04you're putting more. I don't know.
- 11:07Or it's I'm jealous. So that's how you know I love
- 11:10you. Yeah.
- 11:12You know, and I mean love is, and I always tell people when I
- 11:17talk about this with them, I always remind them that you
- 11:20know, and I even you know, when I'm talking even about
- 11:22relationships, I always tell a relationship is a gift and it
- 11:27becomes our responsibility to nurture that gift.
- 11:30And when somebody loves us, it is not ownership.
- 11:36Right. You know, we don't own those
- 11:39people. And we've talked about that in a
- 11:43previous episode, Attachment versus Love.
- 11:46And I think that a lot of people do get completely confused about
- 11:51that. They don't realize that that,
- 11:53that piece, that jealousy, things like that come from this
- 11:58idea that we have some kind of ownership.
- 12:01Well, and I think it comes from lack of you know when when I
- 12:05lack and sometimes it's that thing of trying to lack that
- 12:10ability to express communicate. I think it's is really what it
- 12:15is is because we get into this place of I want to show you that
- 12:20I love you and I'm and to do that I'm going to take away
- 12:23everything else that you have and you're going to become my
- 12:26whole world. That is dangerous.
- 12:30Well, it it's not only dangerous, it's not healthy.
- 12:33It's not healthy. That's why it's dangerous.
- 12:36But yeah, but that person, I think, really does believe in
- 12:38their head that that is love. But once again, what?
- 12:43What were they showing? How was that conveyed?
- 12:48You know, in a lot of times I think we see that more as
- 12:51insecurities and people, people get insecure.
- 12:54They feel insecure about what's going on, you know?
- 12:59Or I think it's like maybe it's more that they don't know how
- 13:05to. Maybe they don't feel like
- 13:08they're worthy of love in a way. That's exactly what I was going
- 13:11to say is that I think that most of the time it comes back to
- 13:15those insecurities come back to I'm not worthy to receive that
- 13:20kind of love or you know, and I don't think that's a forefront
- 13:24thought in their mind. It's just sometimes when you see
- 13:29people, I feel like trying to manipulate something or that to
- 13:35elicit the response that they want, You know, I feel like that
- 13:38that's it comes from that insecurity that is a place of
- 13:42suffering, I really. Feel like at the end of the day
- 13:45everybody wants to feel loved. Yeah, everybody wants to feel.
- 13:50But I am telling it is so weird to me when I'm doing my job and
- 13:53I tell people and and we're talking about self love and
- 13:56stuff, what a struggle it is for them to say they love
- 14:03themselves. It's bizarre to me.
- 14:06They they really struggle with that piece of it.
- 14:10They struggle with how can I love myself and if I can't, if
- 14:15if I'm at a place where I can't even love myself and I can't
- 14:17even say to myself I love myself.
- 14:19It's sad to me and and it really is because we should embrace who
- 14:25we are and we should have that S flow because when we have that,
- 14:28that once again radiates out to other people and then we have
- 14:32this capacity to love in a very different way.
- 14:35Exactly. When we talk about love, I think
- 14:39there's it's such a powerful emotion.
- 14:42It has such a power to it. The energy of love is so
- 14:48amazing. It is so grand you.
- 14:50Know. And there's so many ways to
- 14:53express it. I had recently posted a meme on
- 14:592 Girls on a Pod on Facebook. Please follow.
- 15:04You may not be able to change the entire world, but you can
- 15:08release your love and watch it. It's vibrant colors, paint the
- 15:13world around you with kindness and patience and watch your
- 15:17little part of it change for the better.
- 15:21And I think that that's that's really what it comes down to.
- 15:23I mean, when we express love, no matter how we do it, it comes
- 15:28back to us and we we see it play out in our lives in a different
- 15:34way. And by the way, that little
- 15:36saying was by somebody. I can't see her name.
- 15:41But anyway, definitely look it up on Facebook.
- 15:44But you know. I think The thing is, and you
- 15:46know, even when I'm talking to people in there, they're talking
- 15:49about all the stuff going on in the world or this, that or the
- 15:52other. I always tell them the way we
- 15:55bring about change starts in our own home.
- 16:00How do we love in our home? How do we love and nurture that
- 16:04love? How do we love and nurture
- 16:05people? And then from our home it goes
- 16:08out into our community and then it goes out into the world.
- 16:12You know, there was that all we need is love.
- 16:16But I think there's something about that.
- 16:18I think not when we love people and and we're able to express
- 16:22that and there is such a vibration to it exactly.
- 16:26You know, that's vibrating higher.
- 16:29Yes. It's sad when people get stuck
- 16:32in This is My way of loving and you've got to accept my way of
- 16:35loving and and I'm doing that and they're forcing.
- 16:38No. Love is a feeling.
- 16:43And when we love, I really do believe people will experience
- 16:48that. They will feel that not by what
- 16:50we do, not by gifting sometimes, not by the hug, not by that.
- 16:56Because sometimes I feel like people know that love from you
- 17:00even when you're not touching or you're not talking or it could
- 17:04be anything like that. So that tells you the power of
- 17:07the energy of that love. Yeah.
- 17:10But we, we, we keep getting confused on it.
- 17:13And once again, we keep listening to all these other
- 17:16ideas And you know, you, you love them by you go out and you
- 17:20work hard, you know, and you know it's not about, you know,
- 17:23you're a man. It's not about you telling them
- 17:25or showing them or doing that. You know, you do this.
- 17:27And so people get into this thing, and with the woman is you
- 17:30put. You know what?
- 17:31When you love your children, all that your husband, they come
- 17:34first. You wait to buy those shoes.
- 17:35Who cares that your toes have been shown for a month?
- 17:39Do you see what I mean? We have.
- 17:42Some really toxic ideas sometimes about how to express
- 17:45love. Absolutely.
- 17:47And because of that toxicity around it, it it doesn't just
- 17:52impact the person who has those ideas.
- 17:55It affects the people that they're engaging with.
- 17:59And it it becomes an example to, you know, even like with your
- 18:03children, I mean how you express that love to one another, it's
- 18:08it's truly through example that they learn about that and what
- 18:12that means what what it does it mean to love somebody.
- 18:16What does that look like? And you know.
- 18:18Even as we're talking, as you're listening to this, take a moment
- 18:22and think those people in my life who I really feel that how
- 18:26what is that exchange happening? Is it only when they're doing
- 18:30gifting or or touch or, you know, affirmations or is it that
- 18:36or are you truly feeling it because you're actually open and
- 18:39engaged with it? We we're not present.
- 18:43Even if somebody is telling this person I love you, they're not
- 18:47hearing that. They're not expressing that.
- 18:49They're not feeling it. So how do we change that is
- 18:55through the things that we do? Yeah, and we only can do that
- 19:02through behavior. Sometimes our behaviors are
- 19:05going to express that. But the thing that we need to do
- 19:09is remember that even within that we cannot take on somebody
- 19:14else's. We have to be true and authentic
- 19:16to ourselves. And if we're true and authentic
- 19:19to ourselves in that area of love, I feel like that will
- 19:22radiate with the people around us.
- 19:28Do you see what I mean? But if we're not doing that,
- 19:33we're going to get caught up in loving people with somebody
- 19:38else's ideas. And if we're loving people with
- 19:42other people's ideas, we're not being our authentic self.
- 19:45And sometimes I feel like people would rather love the way they
- 19:49want to, but they get so caught up in the ideas of others.
- 19:55And I'm going to use man for a minute.
- 19:56If I sit there and say be mushy, then I'm not manly, you know
- 20:04what I mean? I think you'd be mushy and manly
- 20:06at the same time. What do you think?
- 20:09Mushy and. Manly.
- 20:12But I don't think it's mushy. I think that becomes the thing
- 20:14or that's a weakness or that that's.
- 20:17The stereotype and I really feel like that we need to get past
- 20:21that and realize the expression of love.
- 20:24No matter how it's done, as long as it's healthy, I don't think
- 20:30you should see it as a weakness. Exactly.
- 20:33Oh my God, what a strong statement.
- 20:34Love should not be ever viewed as a weakness.
- 20:37Exactly. But often times I think what we
- 20:39do is we do view those things as a weakness or whatever.
- 20:42And it's not. It is our strength, our ability
- 20:47to love people and ourselves. I feel it's our greatest
- 20:51strength and I feel like we continue to get caught up and I
- 20:56say we because I think we're all guilty.
- 20:57That at some point is we we get caught up in other people's
- 21:01ideas or perceptions or all of those things, and we just get
- 21:05lost. And I feel like we can get
- 21:11unlost. But it's it's that journey.
- 21:13It's that thing. It's it's it's truly being in
- 21:19that moment. And I always loved doing couples
- 21:22counseling and I had this couple of many years ago and we were
- 21:26working on this and when they would argue then they would just
- 21:29go from separate, she goes. But when I'm mad at him, she
- 21:34goes, it's not like I don't love him and I says, but how does he
- 21:37know that she kind of sat there. I says, do you stop talking?
- 21:44Well, yeah, I says, well, maybe do something different.
- 21:48And so she comes back the next week.
- 21:50They had a little spat and she was kind of excited.
- 21:53And they're like, what is this about, you know?
- 21:57And she goes, Oh my God, she goes, my husband and I had a
- 22:00little spat and she said I was a little ticked off at him, she
- 22:05says. But then when I was walking, I
- 22:07went into the laundry room, whatever.
- 22:08And she was doing stuff. And when she came back, she was
- 22:10just sitting at the kitchen table and she says this walking
- 22:13pie. I looked at him.
- 22:13I thought, my God, I love that man and I do appreciate the fact
- 22:17that he works really hard. I said, did you say that?
- 22:20She goes, I'm not there yet. I said OK, she goes, no.
- 22:24But what I did do is as I walked behind him, I just reached over
- 22:28and she hugged him from behind. She just hugged him, didn't say
- 22:32anything, and laughed. And she says, I really do
- 22:35believe in that moment that he knew that I still loved him.
- 22:39But we argue. We find people go, oh, don't
- 22:42love me anymore, No. Definitely.
- 22:45It's not that easily you know to say hey, but once.
- 22:51Again, I think that does happen though, you know, And people get
- 22:54afraid of that if you know parents, if I set boundaries, my
- 22:57kids aren't going to love me. They're not, you know?
- 23:00No, we don't. I don't believe we stopped
- 23:02loving that quickly. It's not that shallow.
- 23:05I think that it's a a really big misconception for parents with
- 23:10kids because they are so fearful of setting boundaries sometimes
- 23:15with them and thinking that it's going to hurt their feelings or
- 23:21or whatever and that they're going to like hold a grudge or
- 23:24something. I don't know.
- 23:25But I think that having that structure and setting those kind
- 23:31of boundaries, you're doing the ultimate by preparing them for
- 23:36the world ahead of them. And that, I think, is a true
- 23:39expression of love, yes. You are helping them to build
- 23:43that resilience and the stuff that they're going to face when
- 23:47it's not mom and dad. So I think that's huge.
- 23:52That is a huge component of saying I love you and you know.
- 23:55Shout out to parents because I think as parents you have the
- 24:00toughest job in the world. The most important valuable one,
- 24:04I think, yes. And not only that, the way a
- 24:08parent loves their children. It's not all parents, but I do
- 24:13believe it is a huge majority of parents.
- 24:16I worked for DHS for a while, you know, as a therapist and
- 24:19that. But you know, there's some.
- 24:20But I think even then people are doing the best they can with
- 24:24whatever skills they have and sometimes they're just really
- 24:27fucked up skills sometimes. They don't have, you know.
- 24:30Yeah, and not by and sometimes, you know, whatever.
- 24:34It's still not an excuse. But what I'm saying is for
- 24:38parents, I really feel that they do love their children and
- 24:44they're there's such a fear around losing that love, just As
- 24:50for a child, their fear of losing a parent's love and I.
- 24:55Think that it's really important that they realize too that you
- 24:59know, you hear that saying a lot of times from parents that say
- 25:03do as I say and not as I do. But you have to realize what an
- 25:07impact and impression you make with the things that you do.
- 25:11You do set an example. I mean, kids are always watching
- 25:15and listening and. You know what one of the things
- 25:18is, and I feel very blessed with the parents I had.
- 25:23I you know, I I say it all the time.
- 25:25I feel very blessed. I I really do feel like each and
- 25:28every one of their children felt loved.
- 25:30I feel like they showed that in many, many ways.
- 25:35And because we could feel that, I feel that that has helped me
- 25:41in my ability to show the people that I care about that I love
- 25:45them, you know, And there's there's no embarrassment or
- 25:49that, you know, going up to friends saying I love you, you
- 25:52know, all of those kind of things.
- 25:53Because there shouldn't be. But we get, we get stuck on
- 25:58these ideas that we can't change how we love.
- 26:01And yes, we can. We can change it.
- 26:04We can express it differently. We can work on making the way
- 26:08what we say match with the behaviors you know, that is so
- 26:13important. Once again with the child, you
- 26:15can't say those things do as I say, not as I do, because they
- 26:19are looking at you. They want to.
- 26:23They emulate what they see. So if you start from first with
- 26:28them teaching them the value of love, the capacity to love not
- 26:33only others but themselves, it's not about it starts with you.
- 26:39How do you love yourself in order to love others?
- 26:43Because if I'm loving everybody, but I don't care about myself,
- 26:47then that's just a travesty to me, you know, so it's about
- 26:53working on how do we say those things, but how do we make it
- 26:55match? And how do we not get stuck in
- 26:58this ideology of I love only this way or this way or that
- 27:02way, or if somebody does this, that means that.
- 27:04But if they do this, that doesn't mean love.
- 27:06We have to communicate that. I think that's the biggest
- 27:08thing, is how do we communicate? How do we let people know that
- 27:12we love them? But how do we also let people
- 27:14know? When you do that, I'm not
- 27:16feeling love. But when you do this, I do feel
- 27:18love. You know, I think that's such a
- 27:21huge thing because how many times in my office I have heard
- 27:25people say I don't feel loved, I don't feel loved, I don't feel
- 27:28appreciated. I don't feel like they
- 27:31understand how much I love them. And when I ask what do you do to
- 27:36show that, they will have examples, but they are not
- 27:41behaviors that will necessarily tie that in.
- 27:44So that's what I work with them on.
- 27:46I know you love your children. I can feel it from you, right?
- 27:50But you going to work, you fixing the bike, that's not the
- 27:55same. The same.
- 27:55I love you. That's not the same for a child
- 27:59as playing with them or engaging with them or those things.
- 28:02Or spouse, it doesn't matter. There has to be an engagement.
- 28:07Especially for kids, they don't comprehend that they haven't
- 28:10gained those skills yet. To understand why this is
- 28:13happening on the backside, why, why you're fixing the bike or
- 28:17whatever it is that you're doing, yes, you're fixing.
- 28:20It because it's your job, yeah. They don't.
- 28:23That's all they know. They think you're the parent.
- 28:25Why wouldn't you? You know.
- 28:27You don't let me use the tools, so you love your tools more than
- 28:32me. No, but.
- 28:34Seriously, you know, And that's what I'm saying, you know?
- 28:37And I think that's the main thing of this whole podcast is
- 28:42it's OK to love. Love is not a weakness.
- 28:44The more that we love, I think that the more rich our lives
- 28:49really are. How do I love thee?
- 28:51Let me count the. Ways.
- 28:52And what's the rest? I don't even.
- 28:57Know. That was good though, yeah.
- 29:02But that's what I mean. It's to not get caught up in one
- 29:08specific way or or feel that you're only capable of loving
- 29:12one way. Understanding that we're much
- 29:15more diverse than that. Listening.
- 29:19Actively listen to the people that you love, and when they're
- 29:24telling me what they need as far as that goes, listen and then
- 29:28actively engage in that. And if you're not feeling that,
- 29:32then have a conversation with somebody, whoever that is, they
- 29:37have that conversation and then if they don't listen, then
- 29:41that's a whole other episode. And sometimes, you know, maybe
- 29:47they're not straight out communicating to you
- 29:49specifically how you should show your love, but you pay attention
- 29:54to the things that they like and realize the interests that they
- 29:58have. And even just showing some
- 30:01interest in in things that they are interested in.
- 30:05That's one way to express love. Yeah, we love that you listen to
- 30:11us. That is a form that really is.
- 30:13And then once again, there's so many layers and so we would
