- 0:00Speaker 1: And this referee who is a little bit suspect if
- 0:06Speaker 1: you check his if you check his past. I don't
- 0:08Speaker 1: want to say that because I don't like to create controversy,
- 0:12Speaker 1: but very suspect. If you'd let help provide you with
- 0:16Speaker 1: the pest.
- 0:17Speaker 2: You're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Good Tuesday morning. Nice to have you with us on
- 0:23Speaker 3: the forty seven Morning Update, and we've got very big
- 0:26Speaker 3: breaking news. First up, Graham Platner is accused of breaking
- 0:30Speaker 3: into a woman's house and sexually assaulting her. The campaign
- 0:34Speaker 3: has now canceled multiple events, and Democrats are now saying, Okay,
- 0:40Speaker 3: maybe you should drop out. So why did it take
- 0:43Speaker 3: so long? We break down the timeline. It's the forty
- 0:46Speaker 3: seven Morning Update and it starts right now.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Story number one.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for the US Senate in Maine,
- 0:55Speaker 3: is now facing yet again another devastating allegation from a
- 1:00Speaker 3: former partner, Jenny Rasiko, who told Politico that while she
- 1:05Speaker 3: and Platner have been involved in an on and off relationship,
- 1:09Speaker 3: in twenty twenty one, he allegedly entered her role main
- 1:13Speaker 3: home uninvited one night while intoxicated, Platner allegedly forced himself
- 1:18Speaker 3: on her while she repeatedly told him to stop. She
- 1:21Speaker 3: told Politico, I remember him grabbing my pelvis and being
- 1:25Speaker 3: really forceful of me. She explained that quote, I remember
- 1:29Speaker 3: the specific moment where I thought to myself, like, this
- 1:32Speaker 3: is no longer my choice. Platner, of course, has come
- 1:37Speaker 3: out just like he has with all the other allegations
- 1:39Speaker 3: against him, denying the allegations and calling it false and
- 1:43Speaker 3: politically motivated. But the political fallout has now been immediate
- 1:48Speaker 3: and severe. Democrats who were protecting him at all costs
- 1:53Speaker 3: are now well saying, Okay, maybe it's time for him
- 1:56Speaker 3: to get out of the race. And that is a story,
- 1:59Speaker 3: not just the allegation itself, but the way the Democratic
- 2:02Speaker 3: Party handled Graham Platner until it became politically impossible to
- 2:07Speaker 3: keep pretending that this was somehow not a problem. Now,
- 2:12Speaker 3: this was not the first red flag, and that's what
- 2:14Speaker 3: voters need to remember. Platner had already faced scrutiny over
- 2:18Speaker 3: to serving past online comments and allegations about his behavior
- 2:22Speaker 3: towards women, and even a tattoo of the SS. Yes,
- 2:26Speaker 3: the Nazi tattoo on his chest, which of course he
- 2:30Speaker 3: said he did not understand at the time and later
- 2:32Speaker 3: then covered it up. Yet there's video out there and
- 2:35Speaker 3: others who said, oh, he knew exactly what it meant.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And even with all of those allegations and problems, what
- 2:42Speaker 3: did the Democratic Party do? Where the Progressives do, where
- 2:45Speaker 3: the socialists do, where the communists do? They backed him
- 2:49Speaker 3: and rallied behind him and kept giving him funding. They
- 2:54Speaker 3: treated every warning sign like a Republican smear campaign instead
- 2:59Speaker 3: of acting looking at the facts. Now, after this latest allegation,
- 3:05Speaker 3: the same party that protected him is running for the exit.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It reminds me a lot of Eric Swalwell in California,
- 3:12Speaker 3: when they realized it could cost him the governor's mansion,
- 3:15Speaker 3: they decided to turn on the guy they protected at
- 3:18Speaker 3: all costs. Representative Roconne has now withdrawn his endorsement and
- 3:22Speaker 3: urged Plantner to leave the race. Senator Reuben Diego, for example,
- 3:27Speaker 3: as well as in Citizens United, they both now pulled
- 3:30Speaker 3: their support. Main Democratic leaders are also calling on him
- 3:35Speaker 3: to withdraw, saying the party needs to move on and
- 3:37Speaker 3: focus on defeating the Republican Senator Susan Collins. So let's
- 3:43Speaker 3: just be honest about what happened here. Democrats did not
- 3:46Speaker 3: suddenly discover standards. They discovered liability. It's no different than
- 3:52Speaker 3: what we saw in California. It is no different than
- 3:55Speaker 3: we see almost every time a Democrat gets in trouble publicly.
- 4:00Speaker 3: They don't care what you did as long as they
- 4:02Speaker 3: feel like they can save you. But when they realize
- 4:06Speaker 3: maybe you're too big of a liability, they'll immediately turn
- 4:10Speaker 3: on you. And if you don't believe me, call Eric Swallwell.
- 4:13Speaker 3: When the scandals were politically survivable, they will always defend you,
- 4:18Speaker 3: and when the allegations become politically catastrophic, they'll abandon you instantly.
- 4:24Speaker 3: It is truly the definition of hypocrisy. This is not
- 4:28Speaker 3: moral clarity, is the point I want to make. This
- 4:31Speaker 3: is simply a political calculation. And this is where the
- 4:35Speaker 3: hypocrisy is impossible to ignore on a nationwide scale. This
- 4:40Speaker 3: is the same Democratic party that lectures America constantly about
- 4:44Speaker 3: believing all women, accountability, character, decency, and protecting victims. They
- 4:50Speaker 3: run campaigns on moral superiority. They also say Republicans are dangerous, unfit,
- 4:56Speaker 3: and disqualified over allegations or rhetoric or past behavior. But
- 5:00Speaker 3: when the accused candidate has a D next to his
- 5:04Speaker 3: name or her name, and it might help them win
- 5:07Speaker 3: a Senate seat. Suddenly the standards they disappear. They don't
- 5:11Speaker 3: even just become flexible. They just don't care. And then
- 5:15Speaker 3: they always say this, well, we're going to let the
- 5:17Speaker 3: process play out. Well, suddenly the process played out, and
- 5:22Speaker 3: now they say, well, we need to look at the
- 5:24Speaker 3: full context of everything. Well, now that we have more
- 5:28Speaker 3: of the quote full context of grand Platner, you got
- 5:31Speaker 3: to ask yourself this question, why is it there's such
- 5:35Speaker 3: a big double standard, especially in the media when it's
- 5:38Speaker 3: a Republican, they demand resignation before the ink is dry.
- 5:41Speaker 3: On the headline, Platner has been well surrounded by controversy
- 5:46Speaker 3: since the day he announced his candidacy, and now he
- 5:50Speaker 3: is reportedly reassessing his quote unquote campaign because the Democrats
- 5:55Speaker 3: have cut off the spickett the money and without money,
- 5:59Speaker 3: how do you run now? Again, he has denied the
- 6:02Speaker 3: allegations and has not immediately exited the race at the
- 6:05Speaker 3: moment I'm recording this now, There's also something else that's interesting.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Under Main's election rules, Democrats still have a short window
- 6:13Speaker 3: to replace him, and that's really what this is about.
- 6:17Speaker 3: If they can get him out of the race and
- 6:18Speaker 3: he withdraws by July the thirteenth, then he's no longer
- 6:22Speaker 3: their problem. They'll just throw someone else in there. It
- 6:25Speaker 3: almost reminds me of Kamala Harrison Joe Biden, and the
- 6:29Speaker 3: deadline explains a lot of the panic. This is actually
- 6:33Speaker 3: organized panic, it's not actual. So all of a sudden,
- 6:37Speaker 3: you're going to see the big headlines coming from the
- 6:39Speaker 3: media as well. NBC Nightly News is going to be
- 6:42Speaker 3: talking about this, and before they didn't discuss it at all.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Why Because this is all about getting rid of a
- 6:51Speaker 3: candidate that they believe now is a political liability and
- 6:55Speaker 3: may not be able to win. And that's why they're
- 6:58Speaker 3: doing it before July thirteenth. It's not about well moral clarity.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Now it also is about the math, and the Senate
- 7:07Speaker 3: map is really important. It's also about Susan Collins. It's
- 7:11Speaker 3: about Democrats realizing they may have to nominate a candidate
- 7:14Speaker 3: with well a lot less baggage and then maybe they
- 7:17Speaker 3: would have a chance of beating Susan Collins. Now, remember
- 7:21Speaker 3: this was supposed to be their political populous hero. Platner
- 7:25Speaker 3: was sold by the same people that are destroying him
- 7:27Speaker 3: now as a rugged outsider, as a veteran, as a
- 7:31Speaker 3: fake oyster farmer, the left wing fighter who could take
- 7:35Speaker 3: on the establishment. And to be clear, the most progressive
- 7:39Speaker 3: Democrats embraced him as a movement candidate, a socialists, a communists.
- 7:45Speaker 3: But now that movement has a major problem. The candidate
- 7:48Speaker 3: that they elevated is engulfed in allegations and scandals that
- 7:53Speaker 3: even they can overcome. The most revealing part is how
- 7:56Speaker 3: fast the Democrats moved only after the allegation became public
- 8:01Speaker 3: and then politically unavoidable. The party did not leave, It
- 8:05Speaker 3: only reacted. It did not protect its standards, It protected
- 8:08Speaker 3: its strategy until the strategy collapsed. And there's a deadline
- 8:12Speaker 3: of the thirteenth to find that new candidate. That's the
- 8:15Speaker 3: double standard voter should see again and again. And why
- 8:19Speaker 3: would you vote for a party that does this. One
- 8:22Speaker 3: set of rules for Republicans, another set of rules for Democrats.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Now on the set of lectures, by the way, for
- 8:29Speaker 3: the country. Many Americans should be really angry because Democrats
- 8:34Speaker 3: now went credit for demanding Platnir step aside, after spending
- 8:38Speaker 3: months ignoring the warning signs, brushing off all the scandals
- 8:42Speaker 3: and pretending concerns about him were just right wing attacks.
- 8:46Speaker 3: That's literally what they said. You don't get credit, by
- 8:49Speaker 3: the way, for arriving late to the truth, and they
- 8:51Speaker 3: knew the truth all along. You don't get credit for
- 8:54Speaker 3: accountability only after the political cost becomes too high, because
- 8:58Speaker 3: that's not actually accountability at all. And you don't get
- 9:01Speaker 3: credit for pretending to be shocked when the concerns were
- 9:04Speaker 3: already there. The bottom line is this, The story is
- 9:08Speaker 3: bigger than one candidate in Maine. It's really about a
- 9:12Speaker 3: Democratic party that claims to own the moral high ground
- 9:15Speaker 3: while repeatedly lowering the bar for its own side. It's
- 9:19Speaker 3: about the danger of partisan blindness and the media helping
- 9:24Speaker 3: these stories disappear until they need them to get rid
- 9:28Speaker 3: of their own. That's why this is well all about hypocrisy.
- 9:34Speaker 3: There's also one other thing I'll say. If the Democrats
- 9:37Speaker 3: were actually being honest right now about their standards, they
- 9:41Speaker 3: would come out defending Graham, saying he deserves due process.
- 9:45Speaker 3: They would say they're just allegations and deny them, and
- 9:49Speaker 3: they would say that Democrats deserve the candidate they chose
- 9:52Speaker 3: in Graham Platner to be their candidate on election day.
- 9:57Speaker 3: But they're not doing any of that. Why Because this
- 10:00Speaker 3: is all about politics, not about moral clarity.
