- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm not broke, you know, he'll be interviewing celebrity CEOs,
- 0:19Speaker 1: entrepreneurs and industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do.

- 0:25Speaker 1: hear from my man, Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations. Here
- 0:29Speaker 1: we come. It's always nice to be introd and uh,
- 0:33Speaker 1: good thing said about you though by what you're trying
- 0:35Speaker 1: to accomplish when you why I created this show. I
- 0:38Speaker 1: created a show for you. I created a show to

- 0:46Speaker 1: through the different opportunities that are available to you to
- 0:49Speaker 1: be successful. My next guest, so I'm about to bring
- 0:51Speaker 1: up on my first guest on the show, is a

- 0:58Speaker 1: It's the first time I'm actually interview you and her.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I've been on her panels. It's been a great relationship
- 1:03Speaker 1: over the years. Sinciety, when I first brought the Neighborhood
- 1:06Speaker 1: Awards to Atlanta, Georgia back in when we first really
- 1:10Speaker 1: really started establishing our relationship. My next guest is the
- 1:13Speaker 1: founder of the Bronze Lens Film Festival of Atlanta, Georgia,
- 1:18Speaker 1: is a nonprofit organization founded in two thousand nine that

- 1:40Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversation. Kathleen Bertrand, good morning, Good morning
- 1:47Speaker 1: my friend. How you doing wonderful? So good to hear
- 1:51Speaker 1: your boy to be talking to one of my favorite
- 1:56Speaker 1: people in the whole world. Well, I appreciate that we've
- 1:58Speaker 1: we've I've been fortunate it to be a part of
- 2:00Speaker 1: your film festival. I believe I just recently were there
- 2:04Speaker 1: with Miss Guy to Behavior, which was at film Festival.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I did that with Sharon Thomlinson, a really great project
- 2:11Speaker 1: to receive a lot of good reviews and responses, very
- 2:15Speaker 1: emotional about bullying in school and that's a big topic.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And then I also I believe I had Steve Harvey's
- 2:22Speaker 1: uh stand up piece that we shot at Las Vegas. Yah. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: allowed us to present that at a special midnight screening
- 2:32Speaker 1: that was at the Absolutely tell us the whole concept.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Why an award show this year? Tell us about it? Well,
- 2:44Speaker 1: we've actually had an awards show, Rashawn for nine of
- 2:47Speaker 1: our years. The first year, um, we get our awards
- 2:53Speaker 1: show at a club and we name the winners and
- 2:56Speaker 1: called up. But by that second year, we knew we
- 3:01Speaker 1: had something special and we needed to honor these people
- 3:04Speaker 1: in in the in the correct setting. But it has
- 3:07Speaker 1: really he's grown every every year since we've been at
- 3:11Speaker 1: dad show. We've been at the High Museum, and this
- 3:14Speaker 1: year we're at the Carter Center in the day Auditorium
- 3:18Speaker 1: And UH just so tremendously excited about it because it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: a concept this year that I've wanted since we started,
- 3:24Speaker 1: which was to have that kind of setting kind of
- 3:27Speaker 1: like the SAG Awards, where there's some tables that are
- 3:31Speaker 1: you know, people are sitting around the tables and then
- 3:33Speaker 1: there are others where their seats around them, and so
- 3:36Speaker 1: we actually will have that kind of look to the
- 3:39Speaker 1: awards this year. And you started off with our filmmakers
- 3:43Speaker 1: arriving and getting a chance to encounter Jonathan Slocum. Oh
- 3:46Speaker 1: my god, he's such a funny guy, good friend originally
- 3:51Speaker 1: Flum Atlanta and a friend of ours for many years.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And when our filmmakers arrived on the on the bronze carpet,
- 3:59Speaker 1: we make them feel special that this is your night,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and h our videography team and our social media team
- 4:08Speaker 1: is they're taking their pictures and recording it for social media,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and then they go in and we will announce over
- 4:14Speaker 1: the course of the night the winner of the Best Feature,
- 4:18Speaker 1: the winner of the Best Short. By the way, the
- 4:21Speaker 1: winner of the Best Short award will have the opportunity
- 4:25Speaker 1: to apply to the Oscars to be in their short
- 4:28Speaker 1: Film competition because Bronze Lens is now an OSCAR qualifying
- 4:34Speaker 1: film festival for the Short Film award. We will also
- 4:37Speaker 1: announce the best doc. Let's let's let's not go past
- 4:41Speaker 1: that real fast, Kathleen, Kathleen, Let's not go fast day
- 4:44Speaker 1: And you know, okay, that's why you have people like
- 4:47Speaker 1: we're sean to slow down when you say great things. Okay,
- 4:51Speaker 1: we're Oscar qualifying now people need to hear that. Yes,
- 4:55Speaker 1: so we are. We are use our third year as
- 4:59Speaker 1: an the Qualifying Film Festival with a Short Film Award,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and actually the Bronze Lens a short film winner last
- 5:07Speaker 1: year made it into the short list for the Oscars
- 5:12Speaker 1: Short Film Award. This past year they made it into
- 5:15Speaker 1: the top ten out of forty entries from around the country.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So we were very excited about that filmmaker and we're
- 5:25Speaker 1: hopefully hopefully this year our winner will will go just
- 5:29Speaker 1: as far. Because that's that's that's beautiful, because it's like
- 5:32Speaker 1: letting people know that they have because everybody wants to
- 5:34Speaker 1: know how they can participate, how they can get in,
- 5:36Speaker 1: how they can get their their talents showcase. And you're
- 5:41Speaker 1: telling them right now, if you have a short film,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you can enter into Bronze Lens Film Festival, and if
- 5:48Speaker 1: you win, you qualified to be on the Oscar List.
- 5:52Speaker 1: You can qualify to submit to the because that's the
- 5:56Speaker 1: only way you can get on it. You can't just
- 5:58Speaker 1: well I want to send my you you have to
- 6:01Speaker 1: come to one of the one of the approved portals,
- 6:05Speaker 1: which Bronze Lens is one of those, one of only
- 6:07Speaker 1: two in the state of Georgia. Okay, so this is
- 6:10Speaker 1: happening Saturday, August twenty four and hosted by Rodney Perry.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Good funny guy, very good actor. You know. So you've
- 6:20Speaker 1: got comedy on the red carpet and you've got comedy
- 6:23Speaker 1: on your stage. So you're gonna so you're gonna keep
- 6:26Speaker 1: everything moving along with energy, that's what you're saying. And
- 6:29Speaker 1: we want everybody to feel good. I mean, the awards
- 6:33Speaker 1: is the culmination of all the work that a filmmaker
- 6:36Speaker 1: has done to even submit. They may have submitted as
- 6:38Speaker 1: early as last November, and then they got past the
- 6:42Speaker 1: initial screening and made it to the official selections list,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and then they got passed that to make it to
- 6:49Speaker 1: the being a nominee. So this is the culmination of
- 6:53Speaker 1: their Bronze Lens experiences to come to the Bronze Lens Awards.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And we are being dressed, uh for than sheep in
- 7:00Speaker 1: Black time. So this body is going to be very elegant,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know. Here, that's right, that's right. Now, here's the
- 7:09Speaker 1: elegance in the in the cachet of talent. Just keeps growing.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Regina Hall. A conversation with Regina Hall again. He has
- 7:19Speaker 1: comedian host Kim Cole's comedian Mira J from from the Agent,
- 7:24Speaker 1: from the from the Tom John The Morning Show, Fairy
- 7:27Speaker 1: talent writer comedian Mira j and Kim Cole again more levity,
- 7:33Speaker 1: more energy. Uh, tell us about the conversation with Regina
- 7:37Speaker 1: that's happening on Friday, auguste. That's right on Friday there
- 7:44Speaker 1: we will have the Women's Superstars Luncheon. This is our
- 7:48Speaker 1: signature events for the festival. It's a fundraiser for us
- 7:52Speaker 1: and every year, in addition to having a group of
- 7:56Speaker 1: amazing honorees like Ava Duvernet or Lynn Woodfield and Margaret
- 8:01Speaker 1: Avery who've all been honored by Bronze who lives in
- 8:04Speaker 1: the past, we also started about three years ago a
- 8:08Speaker 1: conversation with one of those persons that we thought could
- 8:11Speaker 1: really pique the interest of the audience. And so this
- 8:14Speaker 1: year it is this Regina Hall, most recently of Little
- 8:20Speaker 1: and we just have loved her for many years. She
- 8:23Speaker 1: actually came to Bronze Lens back in twenty twelve or
- 8:28Speaker 1: when we showed Best Man Holiday as our closing sound.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Don't forget that. My two movies, my two movies Thinking
- 8:35Speaker 1: Like a Man, Thinking Like Man too. Yeah, that's right,
- 8:41Speaker 1: thought my love accomplishments under the She's talented. She's one
- 8:46Speaker 1: of my favorite people. I'm just letting everybody know. Her
- 8:48Speaker 1: resume is extensive. You know, she's been Uh she's at
- 8:51Speaker 1: the forefront of what I think. Uh, just just just
- 8:54Speaker 1: seeing her talent and just natural. She's you know, talk
- 8:57Speaker 1: shows with me. I brought her on the guests and
- 9:00Speaker 1: to have a conversation with her. Anybody who's interested in
- 9:03Speaker 1: the business, you should go. Because it's about longevity. It's
- 9:06Speaker 1: about showing the versatility and and and her acting portfolio.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's what she's gonna what's gonna be revealed. That's Regina Hall.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I had a twice in two of my movies that
- 9:17Speaker 1: was based on Steve Harvey's book Act Like a Lady,
- 9:19Speaker 1: Think Like a Man, and worldwide solo with two hundred
- 9:22Speaker 1: million dollars at the box office. That's amazing. I didn't
- 9:26Speaker 1: even realize your numbers were like that. Come on, man,
- 9:29Speaker 1: come on, you know we land all right. I'm with success.
- 9:33Speaker 1: You're celebrating ten years because of the relationship. That's why
- 9:36Speaker 1: you're out there at the forefront of being able to
- 9:38Speaker 1: promote of uh you know, projects of people of color
- 9:42Speaker 1: getting there, to get the ideas out there, because if
- 9:44Speaker 1: we carry a major value at the box office. You know,
- 9:48Speaker 1: people know that African Americans or minorities watch TV, but
- 9:51Speaker 1: at the box office we are a force because when
- 9:54Speaker 1: you go to the box office, Mojo or deadlines there
- 9:58Speaker 1: breakdown the percentage of people uh ethnicity they go to movies,
- 10:03Speaker 1: they said, like, was af Caucasian white, or they said
- 10:09Speaker 1: was African Americans. So they do play up. They do
- 10:13Speaker 1: understand the value of who watches certain types of movies,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and that's why it's important. What you're doing is amazing
- 10:20Speaker 1: and so Regina Hall is on Thursday. On Friday, August
- 10:23Speaker 1: twenty thirties, Women's Superstars launching It's a big fund raising
- 10:27Speaker 1: for you. On on Saturday as the tint annual Bronzel
- 10:30Speaker 1: As a War Show hosted by my Man Rodney Pay
- 10:32Speaker 1: with Johnason slogan on the red carpet. Then on Wednesday,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I will be there opening night film Don't Let Go
- 10:38Speaker 1: tell us about the Oscar winner that will be there. Well,
- 10:43Speaker 1: David or Yellow Row will be with us for his
- 10:48Speaker 1: brand new film which has not been in the theaters yet.
- 10:51Speaker 1: So this is a an Atlanta premier. Uh don't let go.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Co stars David and also Storm Read the young lady
- 11:00Speaker 1: that was the lead in Ava du Berns Wrinkle in Time,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and we're so excited to have this opportunity to open
- 11:08Speaker 1: up the festival with a studio film. Every now and
- 11:11Speaker 1: then we get we kind of you know, the stars
- 11:13Speaker 1: aligne and we get a chance to open with a
- 11:16Speaker 1: studio film, and so this is that film for us,
- 11:19Speaker 1: will be at Landmarks Midtown Theater and we're just very
- 11:24Speaker 1: excited because having a star like David who has done
- 11:28Speaker 1: so much work, and he's going to be receiving an
- 11:30Speaker 1: award from Bronze Lens, our Trailblazer Award on his path
- 11:37Speaker 1: as a classically trained actor who has just done so
- 11:41Speaker 1: much and inspired so many of us with his career choices.
- 11:46Speaker 1: The actual Bronze land Award show celebrating ten years of
- 11:49Speaker 1: film success in it, I guess we have to see
- 11:52Speaker 1: nationwide and in the Atlanta community, and that's employed nationwide.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Do you know. I had had films to be submitted
- 11:59Speaker 1: from ron Slins from thirty five countries. This year. Thanks
- 12:06Speaker 1: just well, my friend, I want to thank you for
- 12:10Speaker 1: coming on the show. You owe me, so I gotta

- 14:27Speaker 1: how are you. I'm doing great. Thank you for coming
- 14:29Speaker 1: on my show, money making Conversations. I had your brother
- 14:32Speaker 1: Anthony on my show, and he is and he's special.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I loved him to death, you know. And he talked
- 14:38Speaker 1: to he's a foodie like me. I just want to
- 14:40Speaker 1: get the food out the way first, okay. And you
- 14:43Speaker 1: know he talked about he come down your Dallas. You're
- 14:46Speaker 1: from Dallas. I'm from Houston, Texas. Yes, what is just
- 14:51Speaker 1: what is your favorite food and what is your favorite
- 14:53Speaker 1: food restaurant? Well, I have to say that my mother
- 14:57Speaker 1: in law and my mother cooking is my favor food
- 15:00Speaker 1: on the planet, to be honest. Okay, okay, I would
- 15:03Speaker 1: take their fried chicken and macaroni and cheese any day
- 15:06Speaker 1: of the week. Um. But after that, I would say
- 15:09Speaker 1: a close second is some good Mexican food, some good
- 15:12Speaker 1: pex Max. I should say, oh my god, I love
- 15:15Speaker 1: you already, Yes, yes, just so in front of me.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And it is on this really sad. My wife and
- 15:22Speaker 1: I we could just I come in at midnight, I
- 15:25Speaker 1: come in for bur I just grab them chips, give
- 15:26Speaker 1: me some squawk, some good pico, give me some good sauca,
- 15:31Speaker 1: some green or red, it doesn't matter now now he
- 15:34Speaker 1: had a restaurant in Houston, where I'm originally from. I
- 15:36Speaker 1: was born to raising Houston now based in Atlanta, Georgia
- 15:39Speaker 1: called Loope Tortilla. Dad placed Loope Tortilla has it must
- 15:44Speaker 1: be the food is probably running through our family's veins.
- 15:47Speaker 1: At this point, we have eaten them for twenty years.
- 15:49Speaker 1: We love it. Oh my goodness, I love you for
- 15:53Speaker 1: saying that, because guess what, I'm a fan. Now let's
- 15:55Speaker 1: get back to why I really brought you on the
- 15:57Speaker 1: show them. While you took the time to come on
- 15:59Speaker 1: the show. The from note another great project movie project
- 16:02Speaker 1: that you involved in by the from the Kindrick Brothers.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Correct um this movie the title Overcomer. Now you played
- 16:10Speaker 1: the principle. I saw the movie so we can talk
- 16:12Speaker 1: about it. I weren't talk in much detail because it's
- 16:14Speaker 1: the movie. It's a two hour movie, and I'm recommending
- 16:17Speaker 1: everybody to go see it. And it was there was
- 16:19Speaker 1: three times. I will admit I'm an emotional guy when
- 16:22Speaker 1: it comes to these type of movies. It was three
- 16:23Speaker 1: points in the movie. I will admit I started tearing up,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and she was at the lake and she found herself.
- 16:31Speaker 1: After you delivered that preser session with her. You know,
- 16:34Speaker 1: it told her how values and she was sitting it
- 16:36Speaker 1: in the water was running by, and you know she
- 16:39Speaker 1: you could tell her she was being spiritually enhanced and
- 16:42Speaker 1: that that that that that got me right there, that
- 16:44Speaker 1: moment right there, because that's what these movies. I'm proud
- 16:47Speaker 1: of you for admitting. I'm proud of you for admitting
- 16:49Speaker 1: your emotionalism, sir. Okay, if you don't get to the
- 16:52Speaker 1: yet now Okay, Now, the thing about it is that
- 16:55Speaker 1: because I'm gonna tell the third session, but we're gonna
- 16:58Speaker 1: talk about so people are gonna understand why why am
- 17:00Speaker 1: I inspired by this move? Why am I being motivated
- 17:03Speaker 1: by this move? And why am I recommending this move?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Tell us a little bit about the move from your
- 17:07Speaker 1: perspective and why it's such a great movie. Absolutely, well,
- 17:12Speaker 1: you know what I love about the Kendrick brothers. Um
- 17:15Speaker 1: I was about to say they're filmmaking, but it really
- 17:17Speaker 1: is ministry. That's what I love about it is that
- 17:19Speaker 1: you're not just going to be entertained. You're not just
- 17:21Speaker 1: gonna have technical excellence. But you know we've seen with
- 17:24Speaker 1: Courageous and then with Our Room facing the giants and
- 17:27Speaker 1: now with overcome er that it's ministry and so it
- 17:31Speaker 1: is an unapologetic gospel film, just by the war Room
- 17:33Speaker 1: was and um. The premise of the film is that
- 17:36Speaker 1: there are several characters, one main character named Hannah, she's
- 17:39Speaker 1: a fifteen year old girl, who are all going through
- 17:42Speaker 1: their own bits identity crisis and um. They all sort
- 17:46Speaker 1: of come to this reality that their significance has been
- 17:49Speaker 1: illegitimately tied to something like success or career or um.
- 17:54Speaker 1: In Hannah's case, you know, he's a teenager who of
- 17:56Speaker 1: us aren't trying to find ourselves when we were too,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you know. And then it's compounded by the fact that
- 18:00Speaker 1: she's been kind of left my parents. She's feel displaced
- 18:04Speaker 1: in her life, and she's really trying to navigate through
- 18:06Speaker 1: all of that. And so, in a very emotional way,
- 18:09Speaker 1: all of their stories get connected and tied together, and
- 18:12Speaker 1: they learned that you better have your significance, like you
- 18:15Speaker 1: said earlier in this program, you better have a tie
- 18:18Speaker 1: to something that does not change. This is amazing. Like
- 18:20Speaker 1: my daughter, she's twenty two, she's a junior in college
- 18:23Speaker 1: at the University of Houston and UM, and you know,
- 18:26Speaker 1: just a beautiful child and so did you say University
- 18:29Speaker 1: of Houston. Yes, ma'am, that's my alma mater. All you
- 18:33Speaker 1: gotta do is to keep talking to this family, this family.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I love this family. Okay, I'm a Cooper. Now you walk,
- 18:39Speaker 1: you walk outside that little the stadium. My name is
- 18:42Speaker 1: said right on that tiger that cooler right there, Rashard McDonald,
- 18:45Speaker 1: because I believe in my state. Now now she's over there,
- 18:48Speaker 1: you know, she's you know, she's she was a farmer.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Uh I could say, uh, star and tennis as a
- 18:54Speaker 1: as a tennis prodigy. And then she blew out her kneed.
- 18:57Speaker 1: And this is where the whole process of faith and
- 19:00Speaker 1: leaf and the whole dreams changed. And you know, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: from you know, if she had been hitting the tennis
- 19:06Speaker 1: right and since she was six years old and so
- 19:10Speaker 1: and to get refocused, you have to have people around
- 19:13Speaker 1: you guiding you. So when I when I you're talking
- 19:15Speaker 1: about this book, how does the Is the book written
- 19:18Speaker 1: for somebody like my daughter or is it written for
- 19:20Speaker 1: the parents? Oh? No, it's written for your daughter. It
- 19:25Speaker 1: is written so that a woman at that stage and
- 19:27Speaker 1: that age of life can grab hold of this book,
- 19:29Speaker 1: can read something that is friendly read or friendly. In
- 19:32Speaker 1: other words, they don't feel like school work to them.
- 19:34Speaker 1: They will enjoy the realities that I share um that
- 19:37Speaker 1: are you know, captivating because they can relate to it. So,
- 19:40Speaker 1: for example, one whole chapter is called my hair story,
- 19:44Speaker 1: and then in parenthesis, what's your story? And I just
- 19:47Speaker 1: talk about my my own struggles with enjoying the fact
- 19:51Speaker 1: that I am in my natural self, created in the
- 19:53Speaker 1: image of God, which means I don't have to chemically
- 19:56Speaker 1: alter myself to fit in with the paradigm of sameness
- 20:00Speaker 1: that is celebrated in our culture as a standard of beauty.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And and in other words, that was my struggle my hair.
- 20:06Speaker 1: But I kind of opened that up than the question
- 20:08Speaker 1: to the reader what's your story, because all of us
- 20:11Speaker 1: have in our physicality and in our personality something that
- 20:15Speaker 1: maybe the culture hasn't celebrated, or where we have felt
- 20:17Speaker 1: rejected or teased because we don't look a certain way,
- 20:20Speaker 1: or our hips are wider than another, or our nose
- 20:23Speaker 1: is more broad than another, and we wanted to be different.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And so I just talked about how we are literally
- 20:29Speaker 1: created in the image of God, and that every aspect
- 20:32Speaker 1: of our uniqueness is intentionally designed to reflect God in
- 20:37Speaker 1: a way to our sphere of influence, in a way
- 20:40Speaker 1: that can't be done unless we just go ahead and
- 20:42Speaker 1: be ourselves. So God intended for us to look this way.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And so the book again is designed for a young
- 20:49Speaker 1: woman to be able to grab hold of it, read it,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and enjoy seeing herself in everything single chapter. That's important
- 20:56Speaker 1: because of the fact that I constly talked to my
- 20:58Speaker 1: daughter about who she is and what she can be about,
- 21:03Speaker 1: never never um talking about her physical appearance, uh, never
- 21:07Speaker 1: engaging it as a point. You know that she should
- 21:10Speaker 1: be concerned about how how she needs to look. You know,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I talked about being a professional, how she needs to
- 21:18Speaker 1: show up for work when she goes to work, she
- 21:20Speaker 1: needs to show up for an interview, when she goes
- 21:22Speaker 1: to church. But her everyday life should be her own path.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And so when I hear you talk talk about the
- 21:27Speaker 1: importance of allowing young ladies with proper guidance to be
- 21:32Speaker 1: young ladies, absolutely well Again centers in on really having
- 21:38Speaker 1: a discussion with the Lord over the course of your life,
- 21:41Speaker 1: to say, Lord, on a consistent basis, Lord, what is
- 21:44Speaker 1: it that are your priorities for me in this season
- 21:47Speaker 1: of life? And then to be tender enough to just
- 21:50Speaker 1: kind of take counsel with that inner conviction. I mean,
- 21:53Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit speaking to us all the time. If
- 21:55Speaker 1: we'll pay attention, there are little things of conviction. When
- 21:58Speaker 1: we're headed in a direction that don't feel right. There
- 22:01Speaker 1: are little um nuances of peace even when we're you know,
- 22:05Speaker 1: headed in a direction that other people don't applaud, but
- 22:07Speaker 1: it just settles well on the inside of us and
- 22:10Speaker 1: aligns with His word. If won't pay attention, we'll find
- 22:13Speaker 1: that he is guiding us into the direction of God's
- 22:15Speaker 1: will for our life. But that means we have to
- 22:17Speaker 1: be women who and men who choose to continually ask
- 22:21Speaker 1: God Today, Lord, I'm surrendered to you in this season
- 22:25Speaker 1: of my life, like for your daughter in my college career. Lord,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I'm surrendered to you. So I'm gonna keep touching base
- 22:30Speaker 1: with you to let you know that I've surrendered my
- 22:33Speaker 1: full self, my mind, my body, my emotions, my ambitions.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I've surrendered them to you for your purposes. And then
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm going to take a moment to pause and check
- 22:43Speaker 1: the direction of the Holy Spirit on the inside of
- 22:46Speaker 1: me as you lead and guide me into your will
- 22:48Speaker 1: for my life. Okay. Now, so, um, I need to
- 22:53Speaker 1: put you on tape so I can just pay you
- 22:56Speaker 1: back like you know once a more, you know, so
- 22:58Speaker 1: you just keep you going. I'm gonna put you I
- 23:01Speaker 1: record that little section right there, gonna be part of
- 23:03Speaker 1: my little you know, my little inspiration because you're you
- 23:06Speaker 1: are an inspiration. You know, we're with It's it's amazing
- 23:08Speaker 1: we've you've come on my show. We've talked about the
- 23:11Speaker 1: movie Overcomer, which was coming out this month and the
- 23:14Speaker 1: month of August on the twenty three must see movie.
- 23:17Speaker 1: The movie there moved me and I uh and I
- 23:20Speaker 1: say that, uh, Priscilla, because of the fact that I'm
- 23:23Speaker 1: here to do a job, and so when I look
- 23:25Speaker 1: at stuff, I have to be professional and and and
- 23:28Speaker 1: review the things that are sent to me to make
- 23:30Speaker 1: the interview work, to make the interview feel confident for
- 23:32Speaker 1: the people were taking their time to come on my show.
- 23:35Speaker 1: And when I watched things like that, movies that affect
- 23:38Speaker 1: me as I go through because I'm not I don't
- 23:40Speaker 1: even I don't have any reviews on this movie, you know,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and quite frankly, I may not know all the actors
- 23:45Speaker 1: and actors because these level of movies. You know you're
- 23:47Speaker 1: not gonna see the Zel in these movies. You know
- 23:49Speaker 1: you're not gonna see sammyel Jackson this movie. You're not
- 23:51Speaker 1: gonna see you know, Mad Damon in these movies. That's that.
- 23:54Speaker 1: That's these movies on budgeted like that, these budgets at
- 23:58Speaker 1: a certain level, the quality is amazing. The storyteller telling
- 24:02Speaker 1: is amazing as well. Then you thought a gym my
- 24:05Speaker 1: way this book radiant. I didn't even see this from coming.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And it impacts young women today who with social media
- 24:14Speaker 1: can be so easily damaged by a post, be bullied
- 24:19Speaker 1: by post to be, their lives can be, a video
- 24:23Speaker 1: can be uh can be just they're changed. And so
- 24:26Speaker 1: where can I buy this book? Because I'm buying this
- 24:28Speaker 1: book today, I leave my office. I'm surprised my daughter
- 24:34Speaker 1: I'm handed to her today because she just needs to
- 24:38Speaker 1: read this. You know, she read everything else. Why not
- 24:40Speaker 1: read this? Because this is an important seed in her
- 24:43Speaker 1: growth and her emotional growth or physical growth, and more
- 24:47Speaker 1: importantly her spiritual growth. Well, man, I sure do hope.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So I have prayed to that end that the Lord
- 24:53Speaker 1: would take every word and would use it to encourage
- 24:56Speaker 1: a woman that's coming along up behind me. Awesome, what
- 25:00Speaker 1: can I get it? I just get it online? Okay, bookstores,
- 25:03Speaker 1: we're about absolutely, it should be anywhere books are sold.
- 25:06Speaker 1: But you know, our ministry is going beyond ministry, so
- 25:10Speaker 1: going beyond dot com. We have it there, and then
- 25:12Speaker 1: of course anywhere books are sold. Okay, okay, good, all right, good,
- 25:16Speaker 1: I'm one point right now. We got a minute and
- 25:18Speaker 1: a half left. Here's your moment as we repromote the movie.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Tell us about the movie. The greatness of the movie
- 25:23Speaker 1: comes out August three this month. The name of the
- 25:26Speaker 1: movie is Overcome Or. You played the principle in the movie,
- 25:29Speaker 1: Olivia Brooks hit it so we can get out on
- 25:32Speaker 1: an up note. Yes, Overcome Or is gonna be a movie.
- 25:36Speaker 1: You're gonna want to take your friends too. You're gonna
- 25:38Speaker 1: want your family to see it. Speaks to you if
- 25:40Speaker 1: you're a male, female, if you're younger or in an
- 25:43Speaker 1: older season of your life, it doesn't matter. You're gonna
- 25:45Speaker 1: enjoy a great story. You're gonna enjoy great characters. I
- 25:48Speaker 1: love the diversity in this film that you're going to
- 25:50Speaker 1: see yourself in this film, no matter what race you are.
- 25:54Speaker 1: That if you are a Christian. You're gonna encour You're
- 25:56Speaker 1: gonna be encouraged by the unapologetic gospel theme, and you're
- 26:00Speaker 1: gonna have an opportunity to take maybe friends that aren't
- 26:03Speaker 1: a faith, but you're gonna want to sort of in
- 26:05Speaker 1: an entertaining way, introduce to them the possibility of resentering
- 26:09Speaker 1: their identity in Christ. This is an incredible opportunity to
- 26:12Speaker 1: do that. So I hope you have the saltiest, most butteryest,
- 26:15Speaker 1: incredible popcorn of your life while you sit there, hopefully
- 26:19Speaker 1: on opening weekend. I hope you'll just go out on
- 26:21Speaker 1: opening weekend because it matters. The dollars we spend on
- 26:25Speaker 1: opening weekend with films like this really send a message
- 26:28Speaker 1: to the production companies that we want these kind of
- 26:31Speaker 1: kingdoms films in theaters everywhere. You're fantastic again. Send me
- 26:36Speaker 1: the banners so I can do my part and my
- 26:38Speaker 1: social media and spread the word. You're amazing, Priscilla. Please

- 27:48Speaker 1: is an innovative platform that delivers financial literacy to help
- 27:52Speaker 1: everyone with their brand success. Good to have the money
- 27:55Speaker 1: making conversation with somebody that make money. My next guest
- 28:03Speaker 1: is a Grammy and Billboard Award winning artists. She is
- 28:07Speaker 1: also a Southern girl, a business woman who wears many
- 28:12Speaker 1: minute heads. She's the most stream gospel artist in history
- 28:16Speaker 1: and had the top selling gospel album of She promotes
- 28:22Speaker 1: her own tools, which I loved it. Here we gotta
- 28:24Speaker 1: talk about that always being intentional and showing a platform
- 28:27Speaker 1: and sharing her platform with others. She's over one million
- 28:30Speaker 1: Instagram followers, over one hundred million streams of her performances.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Please welcome the money making conversation. Tasha called Leonard, Hey,
- 28:43Speaker 1: that's a lot of a a lot. That's a lot. That's
- 28:46Speaker 1: a lot. Why thank you for having First of all,
- 28:55Speaker 1: it is honored for me because of the fact that
- 28:57Speaker 1: you're gonna share information to my listeners and on and
- 29:00Speaker 1: people who view me on my Facebook page about why
- 29:04Speaker 1: it's important to be a businesswoman as well as a talent.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Because a lot of people, I think the really uh
- 29:11Speaker 1: that old you know statement that you know, we're just
- 29:13Speaker 1: in here for the art has changed. We're in here
- 29:16Speaker 1: for the business and the art. Yeah, and it has
- 29:19Speaker 1: social media changed that it was just always there, but
- 29:23Speaker 1: social media just helped to get there faster. You know what.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I I believe both. I believe it was always there.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I've always been. My brother used to have his own
- 29:33Speaker 1: going joke when I was I was very young, and
- 29:36Speaker 1: he would saying, you are the richest person I've ever
- 29:39Speaker 1: seen with no job. But I always found a way,
- 29:43Speaker 1: even when I was younger, you know, to to make
- 29:46Speaker 1: a means for myself outside of what my parents provided.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I felt that it was very important, um, that I
- 29:54Speaker 1: do something to provide for myself. And it started at
- 29:57Speaker 1: a very young age. But I will say this, um
- 30:00Speaker 1: with social media, back when I released my first independent
- 30:05Speaker 1: project that a lot of people still asked about to
- 30:08Speaker 1: this day. Honestly, you know, I did it all. I
- 30:11Speaker 1: started my own website, I put my own record on
- 30:15Speaker 1: tune Core. You know, I did all of the groundwork
- 30:18Speaker 1: and I will forever um respect those days. I believe
- 30:24Speaker 1: that I am able to do what I do now
- 30:26Speaker 1: because I did the groundwork then. And so I put
- 30:29Speaker 1: that album out on my face. At the time, it
- 30:33Speaker 1: was my Space, YouTube and iTunes, and that album just
- 30:38Speaker 1: really blew my mind. I didn't think so many people
- 30:40Speaker 1: would respond, and so honestly, yes, it's it's dual. I am.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I've always had like this entreprepreneurs thing on me, but
- 30:48Speaker 1: also social media helped me to push and to market
- 30:51Speaker 1: my brand. It's really interesting because a lot of people
- 30:56Speaker 1: used to worry a blessing us faith or going out
- 30:59Speaker 1: on faith. But it's also about effort and also believe
- 31:03Speaker 1: it in yourself and this is your vision because a
- 31:07Speaker 1: lot of people can tell you you're wasting your time.
- 31:09Speaker 1: And I know I've heard that a lot of my career.
- 31:11Speaker 1: And I'm sure if people have told you you you
- 31:13Speaker 1: looked this way, nothing's gonna happen for you, you talked
- 31:17Speaker 1: this way, nothing's gonna happen for you. And why you
- 31:19Speaker 1: put that on my space? Don't abody know you? Don't
- 31:21Speaker 1: nobody know you? And so and so. Isn't it amazing
- 31:26Speaker 1: that you you you put your music? You're not known artists,
- 31:30Speaker 1: and hustle got it out there called on favors? And
- 31:34Speaker 1: what did happen when you start seeing the views the plays?
- 31:38Speaker 1: What was that? What was running through your mind when
- 31:40Speaker 1: that was happening? You know what? And I think I
- 31:44Speaker 1: have to go back to something you said, because that
- 31:46Speaker 1: is so true about having faith. Yes we have faith,
- 31:48Speaker 1: for the Bible also said that faith without works is dead.
- 31:53Speaker 1: You can't have faith all day, but if you don't
- 31:55Speaker 1: get up and do something it's so. I appreciate you
- 32:00Speaker 1: for saying that. But when I started seeing more and
- 32:03Speaker 1: more people purchased the album, be interested in the album
- 32:07Speaker 1: post about the album, it actually gave me more courage
- 32:10Speaker 1: to do more. You know. When I started seeing people
- 32:14Speaker 1: and how they were being blessed by what they heard
- 32:17Speaker 1: or you know, what they saw for me, it gave
- 32:19Speaker 1: me all of the ammunition I needed to say, Oh,
- 32:22Speaker 1: I need to get up and do a little bit more,
- 32:24Speaker 1: because I'm the kind of person you know, when I
- 32:26Speaker 1: read that scripture that says faith was our works is dead.
- 32:29Speaker 1: To me, that says get up and do something. So
- 32:32Speaker 1: the more I see the faith working for me, the
- 32:34Speaker 1: more I want to do. That's the kind of person
- 32:36Speaker 1: I am. So I you know, they used to say
- 32:39Speaker 1: this thing in church back in the day, Um, you
- 32:42Speaker 1: take one step and God to take two. So I'm
- 32:44Speaker 1: always about taking that first step and letting him do
- 32:47Speaker 1: what he does, you know, after he sees me operating
- 32:50Speaker 1: my faith. So that's just the way I think. So
- 32:53Speaker 1: my response to people, um being blessed by my album
- 32:56Speaker 1: at first when it was it gave me all that
- 32:59Speaker 1: I need you to keep doing more work. And I
- 33:01Speaker 1: think that's important for you to say that because I
- 33:03Speaker 1: always tell people that. First of all, you're absolutely correct
- 33:06Speaker 1: when you say by doing it yourself, you understand how
- 33:10Speaker 1: far you're willing to push yourselves and also how far
- 33:13Speaker 1: you want to challenge the people who say they want
- 33:15Speaker 1: to do the same thing for you. You know what
- 33:17Speaker 1: I'm saying, because you have to get out the way personality.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Excuse me, I do that. Don't worry about it. That's
- 33:25Speaker 1: how first you're gonna move. That's how first you're gonna move. Okay, cool,
- 33:28Speaker 1: I got this, I got this, I got this. And
- 33:30Speaker 1: that's important because it gives you the conference to say,
- 33:33Speaker 1: I know how this is, the how this is done.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I know how much effort needs to be put in
- 33:37Speaker 1: it for me to be happy. Now, if you're not
- 33:39Speaker 1: gonna put effort in to make me happy, that means
- 33:42Speaker 1: that you satisfy and you reach your satisfied, satisfying point
- 33:46Speaker 1: in your life, then guess what I'm done with you
- 33:50Speaker 1: somebody that's coming in the room, because that allows that
- 33:53Speaker 1: that business had of yours to come on board. And
- 33:55Speaker 1: I let me tell you, sometimes I always admire people
- 33:59Speaker 1: like you who who get it at such an early age.
- 34:02Speaker 1: You know, and I admit that I am talented. I
- 34:05Speaker 1: will admit that I see things uniquely, Uh do a
- 34:09Speaker 1: unique mirror or glass or a window, and and and
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'm able to figure out things a lot faster than
- 34:16Speaker 1: most people. But I didn't understand who I was an
- 34:20Speaker 1: early age. I just knew people just people just told
- 34:23Speaker 1: me I was talented. And people just told me that, hey,
- 34:26Speaker 1: stopped doing that. You're gonna be better than that. Stop that,
- 34:28Speaker 1: stop being stupid, stop that. You know you're going to
- 34:31Speaker 1: be better than that. People just protected me and told
- 34:34Speaker 1: me just you know, it just kept me in live.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And then but your brother said, hey, he knew you,
- 34:41Speaker 1: he knew you had a passion to be different. Absolutely,
- 34:46Speaker 1: who pushed you? What? Well? Under this? I know it's
- 34:48Speaker 1: all starts with the parents, But did you see something
- 34:50Speaker 1: when you're inspired by something? What what drove you? Wow?
- 34:55Speaker 1: I actually came from a family of just ambitious p
- 35:00Speaker 1: for you know, they're very talented. My entire family things
- 35:03Speaker 1: that play instruments. You know, they're educators. They believe in
- 35:09Speaker 1: education and doing what you're calling to do. So I
- 35:12Speaker 1: had a family. It's good to have a family unit
- 35:15Speaker 1: of people. And then that doesn't necessarily have to be blood,
- 35:18Speaker 1: but surrock tell people all the time, surround your people,
- 35:21Speaker 1: yourself around people. Some of them may know who you
- 35:24Speaker 1: are before you know who you are. And I always
- 35:27Speaker 1: want to surround my people, myself around people who know
- 35:30Speaker 1: more than me. If somebody told me the other day,
- 35:32Speaker 1: if if you know the most in your circle of friends,
- 35:35Speaker 1: and you need to get some new friends, because you
- 35:38Speaker 1: have to have people in your life who are always
- 35:40Speaker 1: sharpening you, always pushing you to be greater, always stretching
- 35:43Speaker 1: you to do more. And if you don't have that
- 35:45Speaker 1: person in your life, you know, you kind of hit
- 35:48Speaker 1: a glass ceiling. You are a business woman. If you
- 35:50Speaker 1: didn't do gospel music, you you're so where You're gonna
- 35:53Speaker 1: be somewhere successful. You always shut it down. I don't
- 35:59Speaker 1: care if i'd be am real estate uh broker. You
- 36:03Speaker 1: gotta do because you you got that, you got a
- 36:05Speaker 1: sense of the work ethic. You know, and then and
- 36:08Speaker 1: then I also you understand relationships. You also understand that
- 36:11Speaker 1: I will not walk into the room and be the
- 36:13Speaker 1: smartest person by something I don't know. Yes, correct, you
- 36:17Speaker 1: have to sometimes you gotta learn to be quiet and listen,
- 36:20Speaker 1: you know, sometimes we just try to talk too much
- 36:22Speaker 1: and prove how smart we are. But sometimes you need
- 36:25Speaker 1: to walk in the room and be quiet and listen.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna they used to call me, even at my labels,
- 36:29Speaker 1: they say she's like a sponge. I will sit down
- 36:32Speaker 1: and soak everything up, you know, to see how it's
- 36:34Speaker 1: gonna help me become who I'm supposed to be. Happened.
- 36:37Speaker 1: But he said this the other day. I'm gonna leave
- 36:39Speaker 1: this or having done everything I was supposed to do,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I am. That's me right there, ra Sean McDonald with
- 36:45Speaker 1: Sean McDonald, we're gonna be right next to each other.
- 36:48Speaker 1: We're gonna be gray by grade, baby, and we're gonna
- 36:51Speaker 1: say on that done at all, both of them, done
- 36:55Speaker 1: it all, both of them. That's gonna be all that's
- 36:57Speaker 1: gonna be written on all stones. Right there. Let's talk
- 37:00Speaker 1: about this next. I got six sisters. I want I'm
- 37:03Speaker 1: passed away, but I always have six sisters. They look curvy,
- 37:06Speaker 1: they look curvya. I love that look curving, you know,
- 37:10Speaker 1: And so you got this live for curves. So so what,
- 37:15Speaker 1: okay do you don't know? If I gotta ask you
- 37:17Speaker 1: this question to develop an ethletic line. Do you work out?
- 37:22Speaker 1: I absolutely do. I have a trainer, I sure do.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I know people don't believe big girls workout, but we
- 37:26Speaker 1: can be healthy too. That's what I'm I'm wanting to push.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I want I've seen so many curvy girls because I
- 37:34Speaker 1: released this line. They have the courage now to stand
- 37:37Speaker 1: up and say, yeah, I work out. You know, yes,
- 37:41Speaker 1: you know I do. I eat healthy. But sometimes some
- 37:43Speaker 1: of us say used to say this back in the day,
- 37:45Speaker 1: some of us just big bone girls. Absolutely absolutely, but
- 37:48Speaker 1: I believe you can be healthy. You can ask my
- 37:50Speaker 1: doctor right now. I have no health issues whatsoever. I'm
- 37:54Speaker 1: a curvy girl and I believe and eat it right.
- 37:56Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna eat me a piece of cake
- 37:58Speaker 1: every now and then. But for the most part, you
- 38:00Speaker 1: gotta stay with your regiment. You gotta make sure that
- 38:03Speaker 1: you're taking care of your temple. God gave us one body,
- 38:06Speaker 1: you know, He gave us one one life to live,
- 38:09Speaker 1: and you have to make sure you're taken care of it.
- 38:11Speaker 1: And in terb athletics. I wanted to push that. You know.
- 38:15Speaker 1: The the the honest story behind this is I was
- 38:18Speaker 1: online um looking for Ivy Park, which is Beyonce's Uh,
- 38:24Speaker 1: she has an athletic line, and so every at midnight
- 38:27Speaker 1: she would release these collections and they only do like
- 38:30Speaker 1: a small portion of the plus side, and so if
- 38:33Speaker 1: you don't get on right at midnight, you gotta miss it.
- 38:35Speaker 1: So time I was missing getting the order, and so
- 38:39Speaker 1: jokingly I said, and you know, the Bible says you
- 38:42Speaker 1: have whatsoever you say, And I said, out of my mouth,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna create my own athletic wears just like that.
- 38:48Speaker 1: It was a joke and I just threw it out there.
- 38:50Speaker 1: But when you throw things out into the atmosphere, you know,
- 38:53Speaker 1: those angels received it. And so I said it and
- 38:55Speaker 1: I could not shake it. And so about three years ago,
- 38:58Speaker 1: now this one was a little different from UM for
- 39:00Speaker 1: I Wear because I had challenges. I had hurdles with
- 39:03Speaker 1: this one because you have trademarks and you have you know,
- 39:07Speaker 1: you have to go through manufactures. It was just a
- 39:09Speaker 1: little different for me. And so three years ago I
- 39:12Speaker 1: started out with this product. And this is really good
- 39:15Speaker 1: for some people who may want to give up. I
- 39:17Speaker 1: started out in my trademarks did not go through because
- 39:20Speaker 1: the logo that I had was too similar to another one.
- 39:23Speaker 1: And so I had to start all the way over
- 39:25Speaker 1: after printing so many labels, and and so I learned
- 39:28Speaker 1: a valuable lesson from that, you know, So I was disappointed.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I sat for a little while and I still couldn't
- 39:34Speaker 1: shake it. And so I worked hard, you know, to
- 39:37Speaker 1: make sure and people will tell you now a lot
- 39:39Speaker 1: of women are getting their their products. I made it
- 39:42Speaker 1: for the curvy woman. A lot of times we get
- 39:44Speaker 1: these types. They roll down, they slide down and don't
- 39:47Speaker 1: fit right, you can't work out. And I did a
- 39:49Speaker 1: lot of study about the plus sized body and what
- 39:52Speaker 1: will fit and what type of material and fabric to use.
- 39:55Speaker 1: And so for three years, I worked hard and I pressed,
- 39:58Speaker 1: I studied, and I'm a sure that these these garments
- 40:01Speaker 1: would fit properly and everybody will have them. Now they're saying,
- 40:05Speaker 1: oh my god, they don't fly down, Oh my god,
- 40:07Speaker 1: and that it's just blessing me because that's what I
- 40:09Speaker 1: worked so hard on to make sure that they fit
- 40:12Speaker 1: properly and that we're comfortable and we feel great in them.
- 40:16Speaker 1: And so, you know, for anybody you're out there, you
- 40:18Speaker 1: want to start a business, don't give up. If you've
- 40:21Speaker 1: got some hurdles that you gotta jump over the mountains.
- 40:23Speaker 1: You gotta knock down. Sometimes it's not gonna come to
- 40:26Speaker 1: you easy, but you got to keep on working. I'm
- 40:28Speaker 1: gonna tell you this, Tasha, Okay, you need a podcast.
- 40:32Speaker 1: If you don't have a podcast, you need to get you.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I'm telling you, you know what person I'm t if you,
- 40:40Speaker 1: If you don't know, you're come to Roshawn. I got
- 40:43Speaker 1: people who will sell it, top people out of New York.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I'll set your own net work up. Just don't tell
- 40:48Speaker 1: you people contact me. I'm not even trying to get
- 40:50Speaker 1: no money on it. You are a blessing you. You're
- 40:52Speaker 1: a blessing for my show, a blessing for my listeners.
- 40:55Speaker 1: You can have an information because guess what, you've lived it,
- 40:57Speaker 1: experienced it, and you you said you walk it, you
- 41:01Speaker 1: talk it, you do it. I want to thank you

- 42:23Speaker 1: I just Rashan McDonald, Rashan McDonald, and you're listening to
- 42:26Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation, a show I created. UM I created
- 42:30Speaker 1: just to promote myself. And then I realized that there
- 42:33Speaker 1: were things out there that I could say that people
- 42:35Speaker 1: wanted to hear on a regular basis about motivating them
- 42:38Speaker 1: to be successful, not only be successful for themselves with
- 42:41Speaker 1: people around them, to look into the mirror and say, hey,
- 42:43Speaker 1: I'm actually stopping myself from reaching my own dreams. How
- 42:47Speaker 1: do I what do I go? What can I listen to?
- 42:49Speaker 1: What can I hear? They can give me advice? Well,
- 42:52Speaker 1: that's what money making conversation is about. I bring in
- 42:54Speaker 1: friends that I know and this industry, business in different
- 42:57Speaker 1: industries from being entertainment see e O, small businesses, industry
- 43:02Speaker 1: decision makers. I bring on my show so they can learn,
- 43:04Speaker 1: so you can learn to listen. What makes me successful?
- 43:07Speaker 1: What makes me? Mostly it's relationships. I've learned through the
- 43:10Speaker 1: years that if you want to be long term, not
- 43:13Speaker 1: short term, relationships build and create and maintain a pattern
- 43:17Speaker 1: of success that you just can't walk away because you're
- 43:20Speaker 1: gonna have down moments. You're gonna have moments where you
- 43:21Speaker 1: need people to inspire you and need people to uplift you.
- 43:25Speaker 1: And that's what relationships create for you. And that's why
- 43:28Speaker 1: money making Conversations have been so successful since I've launched
- 43:31Speaker 1: it in again, bringing people on the show I haven't
- 43:33Speaker 1: talked to me a long time, people I don't even know,
- 43:35Speaker 1: which is really even more interesting because I learned things
- 43:38Speaker 1: from people I don't know and people I do know
- 43:40Speaker 1: as well. So my next guest is on the phone
- 43:42Speaker 1: right now. I won't hold up in their logal long
- 43:45Speaker 1: time since I've actually physically seen her in the l a. Um,
- 43:48Speaker 1: she's actually one of my favorite people. Um. My next
- 43:51Speaker 1: guest is an n Double, a CP Image Award winning actress, director, producer,
- 43:56Speaker 1: start Abouts, TVs, Saints and Centers, and most importantly, a
- 44:00Speaker 1: breast cancer survivor. Please welcome to Money Making Conversation, Vanessa
- 44:04Speaker 1: Bill Callaway, Hey, good morning, how are you awesome? Awesome?
- 44:09Speaker 1: Thank you for coming on the show today. UH So,
- 44:12Speaker 1: it's a lot to talk about and we're gonna jump
- 44:15Speaker 1: right into the h The Saints and Center's showed that
- 44:18Speaker 1: uh has been what's this the fourth season? Correct? The
- 44:21Speaker 1: fourth season on Bounce TV yes Sundays at nine pm,
- 44:25Speaker 1: eight Central Time. If you haven't seen it, you could
- 44:28Speaker 1: catch up seasons one to three on Hulu and then
- 44:31Speaker 1: you can see the show after the airs on brown
- 44:33Speaker 1: Sugar Dot com of it, you know, like an app
- 44:36Speaker 1: like Netflix or you can just wait. It's gonna be
- 44:38Speaker 1: on Hulu right when it ends. But I see on
- 44:42Speaker 1: Sunday nights at Bounce. But I tell you you don't
- 44:44Speaker 1: want to miss this show. It is something else is
- 44:46Speaker 1: quite a rise. Now you play the mayor. You play
- 44:49Speaker 1: the mayor, and which is ronic? You know it's a
- 44:51Speaker 1: Georgia mayor and Gose, the mayor of Atlanta is also
- 44:54Speaker 1: a female mayor. Do do anyway? You know? I know
- 44:57Speaker 1: that's that's because it feels timely. That feels like, you know,
- 45:00Speaker 1: like you guys saw the future with this particular show.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Uh when you when you realize that that that that's
- 45:05Speaker 1: a real life relationship, does it affect how you play
- 45:08Speaker 1: the role on TV? No? Oh no, not at all.
- 45:11Speaker 1: But I'm so glad that you don't. Mar Keisha is there.
- 45:14Speaker 1: But uh, actually, my character Lady Ella started out being
- 45:17Speaker 1: the first lady of Greater Hope Baptist Church and in
- 45:21Speaker 1: our very first episode of our very first season, my husband,
- 45:25Speaker 1: which was played by Richard Lawson, was murdered, so it
- 45:27Speaker 1: became a who've done it? And then lady Ella is
- 45:30Speaker 1: very greedy. I don't. She just has a lot of
- 45:34Speaker 1: a lot of goals. She was three, Like you were
- 45:36Speaker 1: just talking about Rashane, about you know, being your best,
- 45:38Speaker 1: your fullest potential, reaching your goals. It's about relationships. Well,
- 45:42Speaker 1: she has a lot of great relationships, but the difference
- 45:45Speaker 1: with her and she's kind of squeezes those relationships to
- 45:48Speaker 1: get what she needs, couping people and to progress her career.
- 45:52Speaker 1: So she wasn't quite satisfied with being just the first lady.
- 45:55Speaker 1: She had her i on being mayor and now in
- 45:58Speaker 1: season four, she has her eye on being senator. She's
- 46:01Speaker 1: trying to be a senator. So I said, if the
- 46:03Speaker 1: show keeps going by season six, who homes I might
- 46:06Speaker 1: be the president of you Now you go there, you
- 46:08Speaker 1: go there, You're gonna do? Okay? Uh that I love
- 46:13Speaker 1: the fact. First of all, I love the energy and
- 46:15Speaker 1: your voice when you start talking about arc because obviously
- 46:17Speaker 1: you're having a lot of fun playing this character. Oh
- 46:20Speaker 1: she's deliciously wicked. I mean, you know, as an actress,
- 46:24Speaker 1: you only pray for fun rows like this you get,
- 46:27Speaker 1: you know, and it's nice to play multi fascinating characters
- 46:30Speaker 1: and Lady Ellen definitely falls in that category. He's just
- 46:34Speaker 1: not one note. You know, she's a mother, and she's
- 46:37Speaker 1: a wife, and she's you know, of course brother the city.
- 46:40Speaker 1: But she's got a lot of not going on, a
- 46:42Speaker 1: lot of demons. So you know that's fun because you
- 46:45Speaker 1: get a chance to think your teeth into something and
- 46:47Speaker 1: just um, just that fun with it, you know, right,
- 46:50Speaker 1: And so when you're when you're doing when you look
- 46:53Speaker 1: at the ratings and I was sent me the press
- 46:56Speaker 1: kid and everything and saying how good the show is
- 46:58Speaker 1: doing up against this compet Tiian And that's really a
- 47:01Speaker 1: testament to the characters on the show, the script's development,
- 47:06Speaker 1: and also the brand and the marketing. And so because
- 47:10Speaker 1: you know, you know, Bounce is not a upper tier
- 47:12Speaker 1: network and that syndicated. So to be able to compete,
- 47:17Speaker 1: how does that make you feel about you being a
- 47:20Speaker 1: person on the show and then able to to be
- 47:22Speaker 1: able to develop a brand that people are just resonating
- 47:25Speaker 1: with the viewers out there. Well, you know, I think
- 47:29Speaker 1: that it says a lot of things also, just like
- 47:31Speaker 1: you said, and also says that you know, because in
- 47:34Speaker 1: the African American you know, in our community, yes, we
- 47:38Speaker 1: are like very high rated in our time slot from
- 47:42Speaker 1: eighteen to forty five. And that's also a wide range
- 47:45Speaker 1: of people watching our shows eighteen to five, a lot
- 47:48Speaker 1: of different ages like that show, and um, you know,
- 47:52Speaker 1: this is our fourth season and we kind of came
- 47:54Speaker 1: out to the ground running even Yeah, we were getting
- 47:57Speaker 1: very very good numbers. So that tells you that black
- 48:00Speaker 1: folks we want to see us. They're tired of looking at,
- 48:03Speaker 1: you know, shows where they don't have no black friends.
- 48:06Speaker 1: And although things have changed in the TV sectum, you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: things have changed and we have more programming now and
- 48:12Speaker 1: more UH channels and more TV shows, but still the
- 48:15Speaker 1: folks want to see them, you know. So it's a
- 48:18Speaker 1: lot three tid especially since there is so much more
- 48:20Speaker 1: programming now for them. I find I call us a
- 48:22Speaker 1: little enginet, could we just because you're right, Bolence are small,
- 48:26Speaker 1: it's not a big station. Then you gotta find it
- 48:29Speaker 1: so that that's really a compliment because you gotta want
- 48:31Speaker 1: to see us too, you know. You gotta want to say,
- 48:34Speaker 1: and a lot of people don't have it says a
- 48:36Speaker 1: lot of things about the economy as well. A lot
- 48:39Speaker 1: of people are getting rid of the hbos and the
- 48:40Speaker 1: showtimes and all that because they can't afford those cable
- 48:43Speaker 1: packages anymore. My mother is going through that right now.
- 48:46Speaker 1: She's trying to find a better way watch TV because
- 48:50Speaker 1: she can't as a scene, and she can't afford almost
- 48:52Speaker 1: two hundred dollars a month, you know, between her internet,
- 48:55Speaker 1: her phone bill and okay, well she can't afford that.
- 48:57Speaker 1: So it says a lot right now about people are
- 49:00Speaker 1: finding our show because it's economically, you know, easy for
- 49:04Speaker 1: them to find it. So the entertainment is what they
- 49:06Speaker 1: want to see. You know, it has something for all
- 49:10Speaker 1: the ages and they you know, and they like it's
- 49:14Speaker 1: a compliment the Bounce. They like the product a Bounce
- 49:16Speaker 1: was putting out. So it feels really good. And yes,
- 49:18Speaker 1: the cast was good. You know, I'm leading the cat
- 49:21Speaker 1: and I think we do a great job and we
- 49:23Speaker 1: have a great time on set where we work. So
- 49:25Speaker 1: it's it's saying a lot right now, and we're very
- 49:29Speaker 1: proud of the show and we just want to see
- 49:30Speaker 1: if it grows. And if you want to see season five,
- 49:32Speaker 1: I got let bound because we don't know if we're
- 49:34Speaker 1: coming back yet, of course, so if anybody out, if
- 49:37Speaker 1: you want to season five, you need to let Bounce. No,
- 49:40Speaker 1: come on, then we're gonna let that. We're talking. I'm
- 49:41Speaker 1: talking to a very talented Vanessa Bell Calloway, the star
- 49:45Speaker 1: of Bounce TV Saints and Centers, where she plays uh
- 49:49Speaker 1: Mayor Ella Johnson. She elevated from the first lady. Now
- 49:52Speaker 1: she's the mayor. Now she's gonna run for state senators.
- 49:55Speaker 1: So we want to get to season six when she
- 49:57Speaker 1: pursues and kicks Trump out of the White House. There
- 50:03Speaker 1: you go. I want to sit it out there for that.
- 50:06Speaker 1: So I would say out there because you know, because
- 50:11Speaker 1: you know your your life is about being balanced, about
- 50:13Speaker 1: being challenged. You know, when I was reading through your credits, uh,
- 50:18Speaker 1: when I was announced that I had thyroid cancer, and
- 50:21Speaker 1: it quite frankly, it's stunned me, you know, because I
- 50:23Speaker 1: didn't see it coming. Does anybody here see bad news coming?
- 50:27Speaker 1: First of all? And when when you when it comes
- 50:29Speaker 1: to you, you you have to realize how do you
- 50:31Speaker 1: handle that? Because my career was still I think, very successful,
- 50:37Speaker 1: and so I didn't understand. I had to understand how
- 50:39Speaker 1: does this type of news fit in that? Unfortunately, Uh,
- 50:43Speaker 1: you know, UH had the surgery and everything. He's successful
- 50:47Speaker 1: and and do my checkups every year, and I'm in remission.
- 50:50Speaker 1: It's not only about cancer, you know, we're talking about
- 50:52Speaker 1: you know, AIDS and diabetes and heart disease. We're gonna
- 50:56Speaker 1: cover all things healthy because it all comes and it
- 50:59Speaker 1: all links. Canceling all this some links together, you know,
- 51:02Speaker 1: all links, because it's the health is us going to
- 51:05Speaker 1: the doctors on a regular basis in our community, learning
- 51:07Speaker 1: how to value back going to see your physicians regularly,
- 51:11Speaker 1: Like right now, when I finished with you, Randy refinished
- 51:15Speaker 1: with you to think my doctor's name is Randy Shan
- 51:17Speaker 1: when I finished with you today and were like, I'm
- 51:19Speaker 1: just called I'm on my way to my general practitioner.
- 51:22Speaker 1: And then later on I'm saying one of my camper's doctors,
- 51:25Speaker 1: I've already had my Mama gram this year. You know,
- 51:27Speaker 1: I go in August. For me, this is when I
- 51:30Speaker 1: see all of my doctors. And I always tell people
- 51:32Speaker 1: find the time of year that works for you from
- 51:35Speaker 1: people like to do on their birthdays or whatever works
- 51:37Speaker 1: for you. I do it in August because my industry
- 51:40Speaker 1: is a little slower, and so if I do it
- 51:42Speaker 1: as another time, I might have to cancel on my
- 51:44Speaker 1: appointment because I might have to suddenly go out of
- 51:46Speaker 1: town and work, you know. So I do it in August,
- 51:49Speaker 1: and I got like between this week, like last week,
- 51:51Speaker 1: I had my mama gram, I had another doctors pointment.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I got the point of to day, I'm going to
- 51:55Speaker 1: a doctoral frost between my next next Wednesday, I would
- 51:58Speaker 1: have seen all my doctors. I'm done. I can have
- 52:00Speaker 1: my teeth clean last week and that's what I done, right,

- 52:06Speaker 1: I do my general general practitioner visit, and then I
- 52:10Speaker 1: do my blood test. All that's in December. So so
- 52:12Speaker 1: you put it, you put it on your calendar fet
- 52:14Speaker 1: your schedule, and you gotta do it every year and
- 52:17Speaker 1: you get you just get it all done, and I
- 52:19Speaker 1: just get it all done it once, Like I'm getting
