- 1:31Speaker 1: he likes to ship. Now it's time to hear from
- 1:33Speaker 1: my man, Rashan McDonald money making conversations. Here we go.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Welcome to money making conversation. That's right. I am your host,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Rashan McDonald. My guest on the show is the studio
- 1:44Speaker 1: with me. Um. I wanted to bring him back because
- 1:47Speaker 1: guess what we was a movie we did together. He
- 1:51Speaker 1: was starting in I was executive producing it. It was
- 1:53Speaker 1: called Misguy to Behavior, which was a bully movie. You know,
- 1:56Speaker 1: was bringing awareness about bullying, how it can be, it
- 2:00Speaker 1: can be circulated, and what they call a middle class
- 2:02Speaker 1: family lifestyle and they're not aware of it. But it
- 2:05Speaker 1: also it shows a lot of different versions of bullying,
- 2:08Speaker 1: from young ladies to uh the suicidal situation. How righting
- 2:13Speaker 1: right in the front of teachers and principal bullying is
- 2:16Speaker 1: going on and they don't even know about it. What
- 2:19Speaker 1: attracted you to the movie, Well, you know, um, I
- 2:23Speaker 1: got bullied, you know, and if you if you ever
- 2:26Speaker 1: gotten bullied, it sticks with you, probably until you die.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I had a guy in my neighborhood. I grew up
- 2:33Speaker 1: in d C and in a in a complex called Mayfair,
- 2:36Speaker 1: but right across the street was Parkside, which was one
- 2:38Speaker 1: of the toughest projects in d C. And uh, it
- 2:42Speaker 1: was several guys, but there was one kid who just
- 2:45Speaker 1: named Levi, who just and all my friends know about Levi,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, and and he just had me. I was
- 2:50Speaker 1: just terrified. He was He was a tough kid. And
- 2:53Speaker 1: I remember, you know, I was turning like thirteen fourteen.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I was like, man, I got I gotta fight fight
- 3:00Speaker 1: Lea by back and I was like, man, I'm gonna
- 3:02Speaker 1: have a girlfriend and maybe I'll be driving one day
- 3:05Speaker 1: just stopped me and take my car, and you know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I was just terrified. Me I was a couple of
- 3:09Speaker 1: guys in the but I was terrified. So you know,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I remember being at a girl invite me to a
- 3:14Speaker 1: party and she said, Hey, we're having a party, come
- 3:16Speaker 1: on over. And uh. It was right on the outskirts
- 3:19Speaker 1: of a park side with the departments as opposed to
- 3:21Speaker 1: the houses which were in the interior. So I went
- 3:24Speaker 1: there and I was having a great time and then Levi.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I walked in Man, and he beat me off the
- 3:29Speaker 1: couch and I'm not talking about the smack and like,
- 3:32Speaker 1: he punched me in my face, off the couch, out
- 3:34Speaker 1: the door, down the steps, and I never hit him back.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I was just terrified of him. And finally somewhere in
- 3:41Speaker 1: a year within that year, I fought him back and
- 3:43Speaker 1: he turned into a little sissy, you know when he
- 3:45Speaker 1: called sissy's back then. But I got the nerve, you know.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But it's that that that story that stars stayed with me.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And so when I read the script, I said, Man,
- 3:54Speaker 1: I want to be a part of this because I
- 3:56Speaker 1: want to talk about bullying because it's real today. I
- 3:58Speaker 1: think the schools are doing a better job because you know,
- 4:00Speaker 1: back in our day, man, you just got your butt whipped. Hey, um,
- 4:04Speaker 1: you just got your butt whipped and nobody did anything.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Story when I was in I want to say, like
- 4:09Speaker 1: the third grade, and it was like im J. Scotts
- 4:15Speaker 1: in filth And I remember every day I come down
- 4:18Speaker 1: that street, he was waiting to pat me down, like
- 4:19Speaker 1: like he was a police officer. He patted me down,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and I would I would like, I could not understand
- 4:25Speaker 1: why this kid was waiting on me every day every
- 4:27Speaker 1: day patted me down. That and that just that story
- 4:30Speaker 1: stays with me, and that's it's And I could see
- 4:33Speaker 1: him coming and I went around this way where he
- 4:35Speaker 1: always he was waiting on I could not avoid this kid.
- 4:39Speaker 1: He was always right where I had to get home. Bangs.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And the thing, the thing that I think I want
- 4:44Speaker 1: people out there to understand is that we're in our
- 4:48Speaker 1: forties and fifties and sixties now and I still feel
- 4:50Speaker 1: like if Levi I was around, I would want to
- 4:52Speaker 1: beat his butt, you know, psychological, you know the thing.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I would want to know why and why and then
- 4:58Speaker 1: what the fact that bullying, being being a bully didn't
- 5:02Speaker 1: have on the rest of his life, he didn't have
- 5:04Speaker 1: on his kids. Because in the movie, we see a
- 5:07Speaker 1: scene where the I guess the kid who was doing
- 5:11Speaker 1: the bullying, he's being terrorized. Yes, so so what happened?
- 5:16Speaker 1: What happens with you know, a kid like LEVI he
- 5:20Speaker 1: ended up dying, probably out in the streets. But if
- 5:23Speaker 1: you take a kid like me, I began bullying kids
- 5:26Speaker 1: that were maybe weaken than me. And it's it's in psychiatry.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It's called transference, where you kind of transfer, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 1: what happens to you to other people or other you know.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And and I had to catch myself. And I was
- 5:39Speaker 1: telling you, you know, one of my friends about raising
- 5:41Speaker 1: my youngest son, Clifton the third, who is now six
- 5:43Speaker 1: ft six, But uh, and I can't. I can't beat
- 5:47Speaker 1: him now. I boxed with him. Now they told me apart,
- 5:49Speaker 1: but I remember him being if all the other kids
- 5:52Speaker 1: went to play at the swings, Clifton went to the
- 5:54Speaker 1: pool somewhere and I couldn't find it. And you know
- 5:57Speaker 1: when I grew up, when they gave you that put
- 5:58Speaker 1: that spank and put that belt on your butt, And
- 6:01Speaker 1: one of my mentor came to me and said, man,
- 6:03Speaker 1: you gotta stop spanking him. Man, I gotta start talking
- 6:06Speaker 1: to him. And now nobody talked to me, but I
- 6:08Speaker 1: realized that I was taking the wrong road in the
- 6:12Speaker 1: wrong approach with him as opposed to nurturing his differences
- 6:16Speaker 1: and uh, his psychological creativity. Um and and it's just
- 6:20Speaker 1: the way we were raised. So a lot of that
- 6:22Speaker 1: was always physical. And I think a lot of times
- 6:24Speaker 1: when you like, when you see a movie like Miss
- 6:26Speaker 1: Guy the Behavior, you see this kid bullying another kid,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and then when he gets home, his daddy, who's stronger
- 6:31Speaker 1: than him, is bullying him. And if we could see more,
- 6:35Speaker 1: we might see somebody bullying his dad at work. And
- 6:38Speaker 1: that's something and that because they're taking an emotional pain
- 6:41Speaker 1: and then turned into physical drama for somebody else. Because
- 6:44Speaker 1: the thing about it that I love this movie or
- 6:47Speaker 1: project about is that not only it's a relatable, but
- 6:50Speaker 1: the acting was fantastic, and they're directing this fantastic and
- 6:54Speaker 1: it and it's an independent project that doesn't look like
- 6:57Speaker 1: an independent projects. You've done your share of major movies
- 7:01Speaker 1: and your share of independence. What are your thoughts and
- 7:03Speaker 1: coming into an independent project like Miss Guy to Behavior. Well,
- 7:06Speaker 1: you know, uh, Khalil Kine and I friends, and I
- 7:09Speaker 1: know Khalil you know was the director and he's just
- 7:13Speaker 1: you know, just so competent because he's he's detail oriented.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Dorrismargado I know from working around uh. And then Sharon was,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know, on board as producer and we all have
- 7:25Speaker 1: the same kind of work ethic. And then and then
- 7:27Speaker 1: really the real bottom line is the subject matter, you know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: because what happens with actors is that if you read
- 7:33Speaker 1: a lot of scripts, you know, and and and it's
- 7:35Speaker 1: one that jumps out at you, you're like, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm not really worried about the money. It's like, let's
- 7:39Speaker 1: let's go do the work, you know. And when I
- 7:41Speaker 1: saw it, I was so proud to be a part
- 7:43Speaker 1: of it because it speaks to something that I think
- 7:46Speaker 1: we need to address in this culture. Because again, a
- 7:49Speaker 1: young girl committed suicide last week. I think she was
- 7:52Speaker 1: nine from because she has a she had a white
- 7:55Speaker 1: friend and and and I don't know if it was
- 7:57Speaker 1: black kids, but some of the kids were calling her
- 8:00Speaker 1: out of her name and saying, you're dealing with that
- 8:02Speaker 1: white boy and all that crazy stuff, and she internalized
- 8:05Speaker 1: it and she killed herself nine years old, nine years old,
- 8:08Speaker 1: And and at the end of the day, I think
- 8:10Speaker 1: I don't know if bullies understand the impact of bullying.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But parents and teachers, and mentors, and and and and coaches,
- 8:17Speaker 1: we have to understand what bully does. Bullying does to
- 8:20Speaker 1: a child's mind. It makes them scared, It makes them tense,
- 8:24Speaker 1: it makes them agitates them, it takes away their self esteem,
- 8:28Speaker 1: all of that stuff. I was talking to Call, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: the director of the movie Missed Guy to behavior he
- 8:32Speaker 1: was Then I said, Car, I'm sorry. Carl Payne directed
- 8:34Speaker 1: Kleio Kane was the start with Khalil Is directing to now.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So I didn't differ from that. Call Paine, who's one
- 8:41Speaker 1: of the best ever. I mean, excuse me, call if
- 8:44Speaker 1: you heard that. But you know, um, because it was
- 8:47Speaker 1: a while ago, you know, and I am getting a
- 8:49Speaker 1: little older, you know, I'm taking my brain. Peell no,
- 8:53Speaker 1: but but they both are. Just Carl Payne, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 1: we did to play together, but we came up in
- 8:57Speaker 1: the business in the l A when I said exquisitely
- 9:01Speaker 1: uh detail oriented, Y's just crazy. But the thing about
- 9:04Speaker 1: that he said something that I interviewed. If he would say, Rashane,
- 9:07Speaker 1: let's let's let's be real. He said, when we grew up,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you bullied and it just stayed in that moment, bullied
- 9:13Speaker 1: stayed in. Your moments will leave our stayed in the street,
- 9:16Speaker 1: your moment under that party stayed there. Now today, if
- 9:19Speaker 1: that happened, you have been videotaped. You've been videotaped. They
- 9:22Speaker 1: uploaded it on social media, and you have to live
- 9:25Speaker 1: with that because they don't take things down on social media,
- 9:29Speaker 1: off the Internet, and that causes even more embarrassment. And
- 9:32Speaker 1: I think that's that is what pushes kids over the edge.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I saw you perform uh Dr Marl Luther King, and
- 9:41Speaker 1: I saw that. I saw the movie. Okay, so how
- 9:44Speaker 1: does that opportunity present itself to you? Because it's really
- 9:48Speaker 1: different from your other characters tot all tough guys. Now
- 9:51Speaker 1: you now you basically playing an emotional healer. Yeah, well
- 9:55Speaker 1: you know it's it's always fun like your favorite show
- 9:57Speaker 1: Black Lightning, when you're playing a pastor and it's so funny.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I just did an episode of American Soul and the
- 10:04Speaker 1: producers it looks good, and the producer said, I've only
- 10:10Speaker 1: seen this guy played pastors. Can he play a tough guy?
- 10:12Speaker 1: So I was like, yes, thank you. Somebody finally realized
- 10:16Speaker 1: that I played more than tough guys. I played doctors, lawyers,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, I played everything, but Ruben Cannon, who put
- 10:22Speaker 1: me in Why the Foods Fall in Love? And he
- 10:23Speaker 1: put me in Buffalo Soldiers, and he put me in
- 10:25Speaker 1: Women Are Loosed. And I got a call and they said,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they want you to come in and read for Semolo Selmer.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I was like, okay, did they call for me? She said,
- 10:33Speaker 1: I don't know what happens. So I got in there anyway,
- 10:35Speaker 1: and I said, Ruben, what's up? He said, clip, what
- 10:37Speaker 1: are you doing here? You always played tough guys. And
- 10:39Speaker 1: I stayed up all night long and watched Eyes on
- 10:41Speaker 1: the Prize and I had my suit. I made my
- 10:44Speaker 1: mustads like Dr King's and I'm memorized at his final
- 10:48Speaker 1: speech and when I did it, and and and and
- 10:50Speaker 1: they said, well he has something prepared. I said, now
- 10:52Speaker 1: it doesn't matter what happens. Now, we've got some difficult
- 10:56Speaker 1: days ahead. Lock anybody. I would like to live a
- 11:01Speaker 1: long life, long jep And they said, you know what,
- 11:04Speaker 1: You're gonna be Keen, We're gonna figure it out. And
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just thinking, I'm just glad that God
- 11:09Speaker 1: gave me a certain amount of talent and versatility to
- 11:12Speaker 1: be able to um morph into different characters. You know, Clifton,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I want to thank you for dropping by the show
- 11:17Speaker 1: Man because of the fact that when we meet we

- 11:31Speaker 1: are giving up saying that I can't do it no more.

- 14:55Speaker 1: D QI and what's going on? My man Rashaun used
- 15:00Speaker 1: to give your heads up. Morris is on steps shooting
- 15:03Speaker 1: his show, so they just snatched him. But he's gonna
- 15:05Speaker 1: try to call call calling the problem. No problem, no
- 15:07Speaker 1: problems about the program, you know, losing Uh, you know
- 15:10Speaker 1: the book to Change My Life. Always talk to you,
- 15:15Speaker 1: always talk about that. You you keep you keep telling
- 15:19Speaker 1: me that all the time, Man, how much you changed
- 15:21Speaker 1: your life? And I'm always I'm always flattered. Man. I
- 15:23Speaker 1: think it's just uh, knowing how to eat properly, That's
- 15:26Speaker 1: the most important thing, you know. And the book I'm
- 15:28Speaker 1: talking about again is entitled The Cut, Lose Up the
- 15:30Speaker 1: Ten Pounds and Ten Days and Sculpture Your best body,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and that's one of the process. Right now, I'm sculpturating
- 15:37Speaker 1: my best body, so you know, and I been able
- 15:40Speaker 1: to maintain You've been able to maintain that body. Man,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I keep seeing you looking so smooth in them damn suits.
- 15:46Speaker 1: You know. I'm gonna just tell you, Obi, I I
- 15:48Speaker 1: got on the scale this morning. I'm the one hundred
- 15:51Speaker 1: and eighty four point two pounds. And you know, um,
- 15:55Speaker 1: when I started Just Die program, I was roughly U
- 15:59Speaker 1: sixteen pounds above that, and so that's one year later,
- 16:02Speaker 1: you know, one year later, be in February when I
- 16:04Speaker 1: bought both you and Morris on the show. So to
- 16:07Speaker 1: my state, the Morris is on the on the line. Now, Marris,
- 16:09Speaker 1: how you doing. I'm good, I'm good. How you guys doing?
- 16:12Speaker 1: We just started, Morris and I just want to compliment
- 16:15Speaker 1: both of you guys because y'all, I said again publicly
- 16:18Speaker 1: and I preached this your book that you guys wrote
- 16:21Speaker 1: the cut loose up the ten pounds in ten days
- 16:23Speaker 1: and sculpture Body changed my life physically. I lost sixteen pounds.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So I'm not only a fan, but I'm a very
- 16:30Speaker 1: appreciative person that you guys wrote this book. And basically
- 16:34Speaker 1: you changed my eating happiness and uh that's amazing because
- 16:37Speaker 1: I eat. Thank you and so tell us, tell us
- 16:44Speaker 1: about the New year Resolution fitness campaign. You know what,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I can talk about it real quick and I have
- 16:53Speaker 1: Morris Si man is. You know, we really wanted to
- 16:55Speaker 1: team up together and uh and see how we can
- 16:58Speaker 1: help as many people possible during this time everyone's always
- 17:01Speaker 1: trying to make a New Year's resolution. I want to
- 17:03Speaker 1: do this, I want to do that, and um, you
- 17:06Speaker 1: know I've never done it before, and I thought more
- 17:08Speaker 1: it would be a great great person to team up
- 17:10Speaker 1: because since since we did so well with the cut
- 17:13Speaker 1: and um, you know, our objective is really to uh
- 17:16Speaker 1: to create sensible workout videos, diet plans, motivational videos. There's
- 17:22Speaker 1: only so much you can get from a book, but
- 17:24Speaker 1: it's so much more, uh, visually stimulating when you can
- 17:28Speaker 1: actually exercise with somebody. So you know, we kind of
- 17:32Speaker 1: created our kind of our own UM I'm not gonna
- 17:34Speaker 1: say insanity, but it ain't insanity, but our own kind
- 17:38Speaker 1: of P ninety X style home exercise workouts that you
- 17:42Speaker 1: can work out with us help you get in shape
- 17:45Speaker 1: over sixty days over a two month periods and Morris
- 17:48Speaker 1: is in there too doing this thing. Aren't you mope?
- 17:51Speaker 1: All I am? You can you can you guys, whoever
- 17:53Speaker 1: gets joins the challenge. You can see over yelling at me,
- 17:56Speaker 1: uh taking out a stick to hit me without doing
- 17:58Speaker 1: through the exercises. Right, it's a lot of fun. Don't
- 18:04Speaker 1: share a mote. We have a great We know we
- 18:09Speaker 1: had a great time. I mean, it is just something
- 18:11Speaker 1: that obviously, you know, thank you for Sean, for you know,
- 18:14Speaker 1: checking out the book and and and and following it
- 18:17Speaker 1: and being very disciplined with it. And that says obviously
- 18:19Speaker 1: a lot about your character, UM, and who you are, UM.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And you just allowed us an opportunity to, uh, to
- 18:26Speaker 1: enhance who you already are, just showing your discipline and
- 18:29Speaker 1: your dedication to yourself. And that's what makes me most
- 18:32Speaker 1: That's what makes me most proud of the book and
- 18:36Speaker 1: challenge is it's really it's not really it's a challenge
- 18:39Speaker 1: for each individual which find that within themselves when they
- 18:43Speaker 1: really want to make a change in their life. And
- 18:46Speaker 1: just you know, for allowing us to uh, allowing us
- 18:48Speaker 1: an opportunity to come into your life and and help
- 18:51Speaker 1: you with that, with the challenge. It's really it's it's
- 18:55Speaker 1: what I loved about the challenges. We're actually there physically
- 19:00Speaker 1: doing exercises. So if people can see myself, they can
- 19:03Speaker 1: see Obie actually doing it, they can do the exercises
- 19:06Speaker 1: along with us. And we have such a variety and
- 19:08Speaker 1: we can have it. We have such an opportunity to
- 19:10Speaker 1: help the wide variety of people. So it's just incredible.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Start date for the challenge, yeah, you can. The actual
- 19:19Speaker 1: start date is January fourteen, but you can obviously sign
- 19:23Speaker 1: up now, but jan Workforce thing is when the actual
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know, platform officially launches, when you can actually start
- 19:29Speaker 1: the program. And we actually have girls working out with
- 19:32Speaker 1: us throughout all the videos, so we really it ain't
- 19:35Speaker 1: telling we have two guys trying to create a program.
- 19:38Speaker 1: You know, sometimes women like what is that for me?
- 19:41Speaker 1: I don't know, two guys masculinity, you know, alpha male.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So we have women working out with us in these videos.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Um And we both really had our objective was to
- 19:54Speaker 1: create program for everybody, but really with an emphasis with women.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Um And and terms of the problem target areas which
- 20:02Speaker 1: is the butt, the thigh, and the and the tribes
- 20:05Speaker 1: that so creating those type of exercise to help tone
- 20:09Speaker 1: the body and make them feel sexy, shapely and drops away,
- 20:13Speaker 1: get leaner and uh and hopefully they can maintain that
- 20:16Speaker 1: shape beyond the New Year's resolution duration time friend cool,
- 20:20Speaker 1: Hey Morris, UH, let me ask you this a good
- 20:22Speaker 1: question because I hand you on the show and it's
- 20:24Speaker 1: coming on my anniversary with your favorite wary when I
- 20:26Speaker 1: have both you guys on the show. So it's January,
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm still holding this sixteen pounds guy was still other
- 20:32Speaker 1: day one four point two. And it's the same it's
- 20:36Speaker 1: the same plan. It's the same plan. And so how
- 20:39Speaker 1: did you and um O B I know the history,
- 20:42Speaker 1: but I would like to tell people you had a
- 20:43Speaker 1: New year fitness resolution UH challenge right now weight loss challenge.
- 20:48Speaker 1: How did you two get together and UH and create
- 20:50Speaker 1: this incredibly good book that I want to recommend everybody
- 20:53Speaker 1: to cut loose up to ten pounds and ten days
- 20:55Speaker 1: and sculpt your body. How did that come about? Well,
- 20:59Speaker 1: that the whole thing came about obviously, It was not obviously,
- 21:02Speaker 1: but the whole thing came about with um. I was
- 21:04Speaker 1: getting ready for a movie a few years back and
- 21:07Speaker 1: um I was on the phone on a comference call
- 21:10Speaker 1: with someone who was in the fitness industry and they
- 21:13Speaker 1: told me to take a look at their website and
- 21:15Speaker 1: I needed to get in shape. A director called me
- 21:17Speaker 1: and said, listen, hey, you need to be in the
- 21:18Speaker 1: best shape that you need that you've ever been in
- 21:21Speaker 1: for this for this upcoming project. And so um, when
- 21:24Speaker 1: I was online, when I was on the conference call,
- 21:27Speaker 1: this person told me to go to their website. I
- 21:30Speaker 1: saw Obie. I said, man, I need to be I
- 21:32Speaker 1: needed to get on his his plan. So and so so,
- 21:37Speaker 1: so Obi and I started working together. It's it's been
- 21:39Speaker 1: a it's just really been a blessing because you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: he's a he's a he's a he's a great business partner,
- 21:45Speaker 1: but he's also a great friend and you know, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 1: come across you know, you know, people can too many
- 21:50Speaker 1: people in this business who can be those types of things.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And we just had a great chemistry and what he
- 21:56Speaker 1: did work for me, you know, in space. So it
- 21:59Speaker 1: was something and I wanted to share with everybody. And
- 22:02Speaker 1: fortunately h Obie was kind enough to partner with me,
- 22:06Speaker 1: so we can you know, implement this whole thing. Now
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm bragging about my sixteen pounds. Now I'm bragging that
- 22:12Speaker 1: how many pounds did you lose? More? Rob So when
- 22:18Speaker 1: when I started the project. When I started, I was
- 22:23Speaker 1: two twenty and by the time I was filming, I
- 22:28Speaker 1: was I think it was nine, right, I think I
- 22:31Speaker 1: got to one seven yeah, yeah, And that was tied
- 22:42Speaker 1: to just just because you know, this is a resolution
- 22:44Speaker 1: I wanted everybody to know. Ever, reason I keep emphasizing
- 22:47Speaker 1: myself is that I'm a regular guy. You know, I
- 22:50Speaker 1: may have some celebrity status tied to my name, but
- 22:53Speaker 1: I eat. You know, I go to Golden Crowd, I
- 22:56Speaker 1: go to Brewster's ice cream. You know when over the
- 23:00Speaker 1: Christmas breaks, thanks to the break your bar was eating. Okay,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I eat, you know, but I got the book. Now,
- 23:07Speaker 1: the book tells me to hold up now, Rashan, you
- 23:10Speaker 1: exceeded expectations now, and so that is what it's so
- 23:14Speaker 1: phenomenal about what you guys have done. And that's why
- 23:17Speaker 1: I'm such a champion of this campaign over. You know,
- 23:20Speaker 1: he got my body right, you know, he got my
- 23:22Speaker 1: exercise right. And I'm just gonna let you know because
- 23:25Speaker 1: of that was those those elements, because of those things
- 23:27Speaker 1: that I as a person, the person who eats, I
- 23:30Speaker 1: eat crispy crean. I eat all these things. I eat
- 23:34Speaker 1: buffalo wings, I eat away those Rancherrold's. I I still
- 23:38Speaker 1: eat those things. Yesterday, I eat me a hamburger, Nice
- 23:42Speaker 1: hamburger with American cheese, legs and tomatoes. Nice bumb Ain't
- 23:46Speaker 1: that bad boy? Yesterday I ate me some corn bread
- 23:50Speaker 1: and buttermilk. This is how I eat. And guess what
- 23:53Speaker 1: got on the scale today, still maintaining my sixteen point
- 23:57Speaker 1: sixteen pound weight loss. That's what you can do when
- 24:01Speaker 1: you have this type of diet. This is what I'm
- 24:03Speaker 1: just letting you know if you ever thought about doing
- 24:05Speaker 1: a diet, if you ever because we all think about that,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and we all think about at the top of the year,
- 24:10Speaker 1: this is when we should make changes in our lives.
- 24:13Speaker 1: This is a diet you should do. I'm gonna tell
- 24:14Speaker 1: you how much I'm supporting this diet. It starts on
- 24:17Speaker 1: January fourteen. I would have a banner on all my
- 24:20Speaker 1: social media platforms promoting this diet. I will have a
- 24:25Speaker 1: banner going directly to all two hundred and thirty thousand
- 24:29Speaker 1: of my fan club members, suggesting to them, encouraging them
- 24:33Speaker 1: that they should be a part of the diet. I'm
- 24:35Speaker 1: not just I'm a member of this diet. You know.
- 24:38Speaker 1: You know they hear they think about hair club for men.
- 24:40Speaker 1: This is weight club for men right now. This is
- 24:43Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald's Weight Club for men being being maintained by
- 24:47Speaker 1: two good people who I feel blessed to be in
- 24:50Speaker 1: my life. Because I'm gonna tell you something. I wasn't
- 24:52Speaker 1: going anywhere. I wouldn't go. I would just gonna carry
- 24:54Speaker 1: this weight to my grade. I didn't have a plan
- 24:57Speaker 1: on how to lose weight. I didn't have an idea
- 24:59Speaker 1: on how to look his way. And I started this
- 25:01Speaker 1: show money making conversations. I never knew that I would
- 25:04Speaker 1: meet Morris and Obie and they would change my life.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I can't I can't tell you. I love the compliments
- 25:11Speaker 1: I get and I didn't ask for that. I just
- 25:14Speaker 1: I just read that book and it just something to
- 25:16Speaker 1: just click with me and told me this is what
- 25:19Speaker 1: I need to do. Obi. Hey man, thank you brother,
- 25:22Speaker 1: thank you. No no, no, we say thank you for
- 25:25Speaker 1: always going out of your way and uh, you know,
- 25:27Speaker 1: promoting us and saying such nice things man like that.
- 25:29Speaker 1: At the at the end of the day, you know,
- 25:31Speaker 1: we're really just trying to, you know, help people get
- 25:34Speaker 1: healthy and fit as possible. That's the most important thing.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And and he's gonna keep this going on. And I'm
- 25:40Speaker 1: just telling everybody, Rashan is not getting anything out of this.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I'm just doing it because i want you to have
- 25:45Speaker 1: the same happy conversation that I'm having with Obie, to
- 25:48Speaker 1: have with your wife, with your friends, with your girl,
- 25:51Speaker 1: your loved ones, or your co workers. This is the
- 25:54Speaker 1: this is the deal. Start now January fourteen, preregistered right now,

- 26:22Speaker 1: I told everybody on my social media. On January fourteen,

- 26:37Speaker 1: information about to die I'm happy you came on my show, Obie.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Uh Morris taking the time off the set because he
- 26:44Speaker 1: was on set. That's how important it was for him
- 26:46Speaker 1: to get the word out. Let everybody know he's a
- 26:49Speaker 1: part of this campaign. And I think you again, Obie,
- 26:52Speaker 1: and now I think I'm not gonna bring you back,

- 29:34Speaker 1: it's very, very important because I didn't know. I was
- 29:37Speaker 1: just out there just grinding. Uh, fraid to get off
- 29:40Speaker 1: that little wheel. Fraid I was missing opportunity if I
- 29:42Speaker 1: didn't keep moving forward. Don't want to take a vacation.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I remember I went two years, two years and I
- 29:48Speaker 1: didn't take a day off. Literally was burnt out. I
- 29:51Speaker 1: was the early stages of me manager Steve Harvey, when
- 29:54Speaker 1: I was doing that and I had to walk away.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I was in Los Angeles, has to walk away. I
- 29:58Speaker 1: was burnt out. So my next she's not burnt out.
- 30:01Speaker 1: She's fantastic and I'm happy she's on my show. She
- 30:03Speaker 1: won a Daytime Emmy Awards Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host
- 30:08Speaker 1: and nub A CP Image Award for Outstanding Talk Series.
- 30:13Speaker 1: She's also the first Latina daytime talk show host on
- 30:16Speaker 1: English language station. That's really important, very important, we understand that. Please.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Working on the Money Making Conversation Emmy winning co host
- 30:24Speaker 1: on The Real, singer, actress and entrepreneur Adrian Holton, Hello,
- 30:32Speaker 1: that was at so excited to have this conversation with you.
- 30:34Speaker 1: First of all, that intro was everything. I appreciate that.
- 30:37Speaker 1: But first of all, Adrian, come on night. You introduced
- 30:39Speaker 1: people on the regular basis, and now if I come on,
- 30:42Speaker 1: if I have you come on my show and just
- 30:43Speaker 1: go let let me just let me just bring on
- 30:45Speaker 1: the show right now. She's a singer actor you see
- 30:48Speaker 1: on The Real, Adrian holding that is not fair? Thank you.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I loved it. I appreciated that. When you deserve it,
- 30:56Speaker 1: you've had you. Here's a great thing about you is that,
- 31:00Speaker 1: uh you know, you know you started at a young age.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I say, can we say a child star? Can we
- 31:05Speaker 1: say that? A team stark? What can we say that? Yeah?
- 31:07Speaker 1: It was that was fourteen going on fifteen when I
- 31:10Speaker 1: first got my first record deal at Sony. Yeah. Right,
- 31:13Speaker 1: And so that transition to adulthood doesn't work for a
- 31:16Speaker 1: lot of people. That doesn't work. How did you manage
- 31:20Speaker 1: that transition? Because we got a lot of things we
- 31:22Speaker 1: want to talk about, but also on this show, I'd
- 31:24Speaker 1: like to slow down so people can understand that it's
- 31:27Speaker 1: not a magic trick. It's not you walk out in
- 31:29Speaker 1: Hollywood somebody just tached you on the shoulder, or that
- 31:33Speaker 1: like your fame happened overnight. There's a journey to you.
- 31:37Speaker 1: And I love the fact that you're not satisfied with
- 31:39Speaker 1: your current fame. You know, you're planning for the future.
- 31:41Speaker 1: But you got that first break. How did that happen?
- 31:44Speaker 1: And then also how did you because there was some
- 31:47Speaker 1: dips there, There was some dips and then but kept
- 31:50Speaker 1: you motivated. Let's talk. I think number one, I really
- 31:54Speaker 1: do believe and I heard say once that there is
- 31:57Speaker 1: no such thing as luck, and it is really just preparation,
- 32:01Speaker 1: preparation meeting opportunity. And my husband and I actually just
- 32:05Speaker 1: did Carnegie Hall this past Saturday. It was like a
- 32:07Speaker 1: major bucket list for us to perform there, and um
- 32:11Speaker 1: for us. He said that his school teacher would always
- 32:14Speaker 1: sound like this was a thing like how do you
- 32:15Speaker 1: get to Carnegie Hall? And the answer was practice, practice, practice,
- 32:20Speaker 1: But UM, I really do feel that if you have
- 32:22Speaker 1: a goal in your life. I think there's even the
- 32:24Speaker 1: book that says, how many hours is it? Uh ten
- 32:27Speaker 1: thousand hours? You know to actually that you have to
- 32:29Speaker 1: put into something until you can actually say you're an
- 32:31Speaker 1: expert at it or that you're even good at it.
- 32:33Speaker 1: And I really can say that I put in those
- 32:36Speaker 1: hours as a young girl for acting and singing and performing.
- 32:40Speaker 1: It was something that I really love to do. So
- 32:43Speaker 1: even though this is a crazy story, I was prepared
- 32:46Speaker 1: when the opportunity UH presented itself, which was I had
- 32:52Speaker 1: decided that because I didn't know anybody famous, I had
- 32:55Speaker 1: no connections to the industry, I didn't even know where
- 32:57Speaker 1: to begin or how someone gets an audition or any
- 33:00Speaker 1: of those things that grew up in the projects in
- 33:02Speaker 1: the Lower Sada Manhattan, UM very humble beginnings, and UM
- 33:07Speaker 1: I thought, okay, I don't even have enough money to
- 33:10Speaker 1: put together a portfolio to even audition for a Juilliard
- 33:14Speaker 1: or or those kind of UM school. So I was like,
- 33:18Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna go I'm gonna go into
- 33:20Speaker 1: the health professions field. And we actually got into a school,
- 33:24Speaker 1: uh here, the Stuyvesant Building Health Health Professions and Human Services,
- 33:27Speaker 1: and my second year there they had you do internships.
- 33:30Speaker 1: So I was just filing some boxes and somebody walked in.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I also believe in destiny and that God has a
- 33:35Speaker 1: plan and a purpose for your life, so I think
- 33:38Speaker 1: that definitely plays into it. But a man walked in
- 33:41Speaker 1: on some crutches and I guess he was getting some
- 33:43Speaker 1: something done at the hospital, and he literally turned to
- 33:46Speaker 1: me and said, Yo, Ma, you sing. I don't know
- 33:49Speaker 1: if I was humming by by the flat on it,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but he's like, Yoma, do you sing? And I was like, yes,
- 33:55Speaker 1: would you like to hear a song in Spanish? I
- 33:57Speaker 1: got a souse stat to in a gospel song or
- 33:59Speaker 1: a pop song? What do you want to hear? But
- 34:01Speaker 1: that's but I was ready. I was ready. I was prepared,
- 34:07Speaker 1: and um, he actually was a person that got me
- 34:10Speaker 1: in touch for my first audition, which was for my
- 34:12Speaker 1: first group three l W. So You're like, what the heck?
- 34:15Speaker 1: What a random story? But I was prepared. I not
- 34:19Speaker 1: only was prepared for that moment, but when I When
- 34:21Speaker 1: I went into the audition, there were tons of girls.
- 34:24Speaker 1: They're auditioning for this manager who at the time had
- 34:27Speaker 1: discovered C. C. Peniston and the singer Joe and I
- 34:31Speaker 1: was ready, not only with a song in English, but
- 34:33Speaker 1: a song in Spanish. I was like any opportunity I
- 34:36Speaker 1: was prepared for. So that's kind of how I got
- 34:38Speaker 1: my starting from three l W then got into Cheetah Girls.
- 34:41Speaker 1: From Cheetah Girls, Um, that's kind of where, like you said,
- 34:44Speaker 1: it was like, well, now what happens? How do you
- 34:46Speaker 1: transition from being a kid tween uh star to now
- 34:52Speaker 1: preparing for what I wanted to do for the future.
- 34:55Speaker 1: In your role model too, don't forget that your role model,
- 34:59Speaker 1: thank you. I think for me, the most important thing
- 35:04Speaker 1: with that transition was that it had to be organic,
- 35:08Speaker 1: and I think that that's where a lot of people
- 35:10Speaker 1: go wrong in their minds. They're like, Okay, I'm done
- 35:12Speaker 1: with Disney Channel and now I'm gonna go show people
- 35:15Speaker 1: that I'm gonna that I'm a grown up. But that
- 35:18Speaker 1: isn't actually how the transition in real life happens. We
- 35:20Speaker 1: don't actually go from being teenagers to now suddenly we've
- 35:24Speaker 1: got adulthood and we're adult ng and we've got this down.
- 35:27Speaker 1: It doesn't really work that way, and for me it
- 35:29Speaker 1: was important to show that transition into um be honest
- 35:33Speaker 1: about that. From I was like, okay, well, also, being
- 35:36Speaker 1: strategic and having a plan is super important. I always
- 35:39Speaker 1: tell people when you're mapping out your business or what
- 35:42Speaker 1: it is you're gonna do, you've got to have somewhat
- 35:44Speaker 1: of a plan. And my plan was thinking, okay, well,
- 35:46Speaker 1: after people watch the Disney Channel, where do they go
- 35:49Speaker 1: from there? Maybe MTV? And that was my next step.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I then ended up hosting on MTV, and for a
- 35:55Speaker 1: while there I was kind of in the space of, well,
- 36:01Speaker 1: I want to be the one in being interviewed, not
- 36:04Speaker 1: interviewing people. And I even went through that weird struggle
- 36:07Speaker 1: of like, why do people keep calling me as like
- 36:10Speaker 1: a behind, like a like a personality and on air personality.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I would get calls from Extra. I guess people had
- 36:17Speaker 1: seen what I did on MTV and they were like,
- 36:21Speaker 1: Extra was calling for me to do red carpet interviews,
- 36:24Speaker 1: and I would be like, but but I want to
- 36:25Speaker 1: be on the red carpet. I don't want to be
- 36:27Speaker 1: interviewing people. On that, and sometimes you can even fight
- 36:30Speaker 1: your own destiny and think, well, this is not what
- 36:33Speaker 1: I want. But God somehow just kept presenting these opportunities
- 36:37Speaker 1: to do interviews entertainment Tonight. Then I got a call
- 36:41Speaker 1: that's like, well, they're doing this talk show they're putting
- 36:43Speaker 1: together of you know, it's going to be the first
- 36:45Speaker 1: of its kind, women of color, a little bit of
- 36:48Speaker 1: a younger demographic, a little bit more hip uh more
- 36:52Speaker 1: pop culture conversations. And I was like, well, you know what,
- 36:55Speaker 1: let me just go for it. I don't really know
- 36:57Speaker 1: that this was necessarily my plan. Does that mean that
- 37:00Speaker 1: I've seen on Instagram that's like how people think you
- 37:03Speaker 1: get successful versus how it really happened. And people think
- 37:06Speaker 1: it's this straight line from my plan from point A
- 37:10Speaker 1: to point B, and when it really is like a
- 37:12Speaker 1: zig zag hot mess. And that really is how it's
- 37:16Speaker 1: been for me. I never sought out our plan to
- 37:18Speaker 1: become a talk show host, but the opportunity kept presenting itself,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and I'm like, God, clearly you have a plan that
- 37:24Speaker 1: I'm not aware of. But here we go. And I
- 37:28Speaker 1: always tell my husband the main thing is to go
- 37:30Speaker 1: where the love is the thing about it that stands
- 37:33Speaker 1: out consistently is that when God calls you ready, and
- 37:38Speaker 1: that's that's the key, and you're not in your fearless
- 37:41Speaker 1: And that's because I fearless is derived through preparation. Like
- 37:46Speaker 1: I said, when you say can you think? Yes, yes,
- 37:48Speaker 1: I can say, or what English or Spanish? When you
- 37:51Speaker 1: get an opportunity to interview somebody, even though in your
- 37:54Speaker 1: mind to a lot of people shut down blessings because
- 37:57Speaker 1: that's not what I was Exactly what ego gets in
- 38:00Speaker 1: the way. You're like, what do you mean I'm gonna
- 38:02Speaker 1: be interviewing um? You know, I want to be heard.
- 38:05Speaker 1: I want to be him. Oh oh exactly, I want
- 38:08Speaker 1: to be the one being interviewed. Oh you're gonna interview
- 38:10Speaker 1: Miley Cyrus. Okay, but but I was on Disney Channel too.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Why isn't she interviewing me? You don't get I mean,
- 38:15Speaker 1: like your ego can get in the way of that.
- 38:17Speaker 1: You've got to put that aside and recognize that it's
- 38:19Speaker 1: a blessing. It's a if it's not the door, maybe
- 38:22Speaker 1: it's the window that's going to lead to the next
- 38:24Speaker 1: place you get to. And I really had to recognize that.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I recognize Okay. I never would have thought, Wow, now
- 38:30Speaker 1: I'm an Emy winning talk show host from something as
- 38:33Speaker 1: simple as interviewing people on the red carpet. I really did.
- 38:36Speaker 1: And you open those opportunities for me. Thank you so much.
- 38:40Speaker 1: You know it's it's an aura of good about you
- 38:43Speaker 1: that I feel that we need to we need to
- 38:45Speaker 1: back up and mention because some people are unapproachable. I
- 38:48Speaker 1: know some people would tell me what you man, that look, Man,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I just got one of the faces if if I'm not,
- 38:55Speaker 1: if I'm not, if I'm just standing what people think.
- 38:56Speaker 1: You boy, you've been that go with talking Rochelle. He
- 38:58Speaker 1: don't look like he having a good day. You know
- 39:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And so so you have first of
- 39:02Speaker 1: all in the approachable look, and then when you and
- 39:04Speaker 1: then when you when you approached you ready, you know
- 39:06Speaker 1: it's not you know you you're ready to count down
- 39:09Speaker 1: the opportunity like you offered that the real you know,
- 39:12Speaker 1: your audition for that, the YouTube show your audition for that,
- 39:16Speaker 1: and you in the audition they gave it to you
- 39:17Speaker 1: because they want to do celebrities versus unknown talent. Said hey,
- 39:21Speaker 1: let's make it work. Let's do it backwards let's take
- 39:23Speaker 1: a star and then build her brand and you go,
- 39:26Speaker 1: that's what I want too, and put her on YouTube. Yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 1: the futubers that were trying to get to TV, but
- 39:31Speaker 1: they didn't realize that the future is is digital networking.
- 39:35Speaker 1: And I think again, it is about saying yes, saying
- 39:40Speaker 1: yes to the opportunities, not being afraid, being fearless, being approachable.
- 39:44Speaker 1: All of those things definitely go into making a great
- 39:47Speaker 1: business venture. But I also think you said making the time.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I truly believe that if you want to do something,
- 39:53Speaker 1: you will find the time to make it happen. But
- 39:57Speaker 1: for me, the best way to be able to do
- 39:59Speaker 1: all these things I used to create a brand, Like
- 40:02Speaker 1: I'm looking towards the future and actually starting a family
- 40:04Speaker 1: with my husband as well, you know, growing our family,
- 40:07Speaker 1: and I'm like, what can I do? What is the
- 40:09Speaker 1: space that I can enter in that allows me to
- 40:13Speaker 1: be creative still to do the things that I love
- 40:15Speaker 1: to do, but at the same time involved my family
- 40:18Speaker 1: so that I can spend more time with them. I
- 40:20Speaker 1: want my audience that you know, if maybe the next
- 40:23Speaker 1: thing is you know, doing something that is family base,
- 40:26Speaker 1: that is home based. That's what all things Adrian is
- 40:29Speaker 1: about and I love that I can share my family
- 40:31Speaker 1: and my home. Walt cameras are running and that helps me.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Now where the jewelry line steps in was that had
- 40:37Speaker 1: always been a dream for me. Again, that incorporates my
- 40:40Speaker 1: family because it is I launched the jewelry line. It's
- 40:44Speaker 1: called x I x I and it launched on eleven eleven,
- 40:48Speaker 1: which is what the Roman numerals stand for. And um,
- 40:52Speaker 1: my first collection from the line was called Faith and
- 40:55Speaker 1: by Media and that in itself again celebrates my faith,
- 40:59Speaker 1: It celebrate my family. And we created replicas of the
- 41:02Speaker 1: pieces that were given to me as a child that
- 41:04Speaker 1: were hand down to me from praying hands, necklaces and uh,
- 41:09Speaker 1: these pendants and cross earrings and this kind of the
- 41:13Speaker 1: things that I grew up wearing. I grew up, like
- 41:15Speaker 1: I said, in the Lower East Side. There's like tons
- 41:17Speaker 1: of Julie stores on the Lancey Street and it really
- 41:20Speaker 1: reflects who I am, my upbringing and that's kind of
- 41:25Speaker 1: the brand and building that and again that allows me
- 41:28Speaker 1: to still be a great wife, a great lit mom
- 41:30Speaker 1: to my my lit kids and and and really make
- 41:33Speaker 1: it about a family. Even now I'm in the talks
- 41:36Speaker 1: about possibly creating a fashion mind. I know it's like
- 41:41Speaker 1: it never stops, right, but it can't stop. I'm gonna
- 41:45Speaker 1: tell you some once you'd be given an opportunity and
- 41:47Speaker 1: you the light turned on in your brain. It turned on,
- 41:51Speaker 1: and you get what You're not gonna let it go? Damn.
- 41:53Speaker 1: You know, give me an opportunity. I'm gonna show you.
- 41:55Speaker 1: But it's all. It's all professionally done though. You know,
- 41:57Speaker 1: you're not jumping out there without a point. You're not
- 42:00Speaker 1: jumping out there saying, hey, throw me a bone. And
- 42:02Speaker 1: I just stought knowing on you gonna say, hey, I
- 42:04Speaker 1: don't do bones. I don't do bones. You know I
- 42:07Speaker 1: do opportune in that case. You know, with the jewelry line,
- 42:10Speaker 1: I brought on my oldest lit daughter, Mariah. She's one
- 42:13Speaker 1: of the creative directors with the jewelry line with me,
- 42:16Speaker 1: and that's what it's about. It's also creating family and
- 42:18Speaker 1: that allows us to bond doing something. She'll also be
- 42:21Speaker 1: helping me with the fashion stuff that I'm working towards,
- 42:24Speaker 1: but us taking trips to Hong Kong as a family.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I'm I'm always thinking about how can I work and
- 42:29Speaker 1: do things that we're creative and that we're passionate about.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But how can we do them together? So even where
- 42:36Speaker 1: music is involved, you know, I love singing well my
- 42:39Speaker 1: husband sayings, let me do that with him, and I
- 42:41Speaker 1: love that we kind of do this collaborative effort as
- 42:44Speaker 1: a family. And for me, that's what it's all about.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I'm a Jameson. Um. You know I love Loni Love
- 42:49Speaker 1: on the show. Uh years tomorrow, Uh sister sister, so
- 42:54Speaker 1: I got history with her. Now I got a third
- 42:56Speaker 1: one that I love on the show. I want to
- 42:59Speaker 1: thank you for coming on. Do Let me do a favor.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Let me first, I got I got a fan club
- 43:03Speaker 1: with over toy and club members. Send me a banner
- 43:06Speaker 1: so I can promote your jewelry line. I got social
- 43:08Speaker 1: media at shop x I x I dot com. Everything
- 43:12Speaker 1: is available there. It would be awesome. So send that
- 43:14Speaker 1: banners to me so I can take care of you.
- 43:16Speaker 1: You stay strong and tell your husband I know him
- 43:18Speaker 1: from my days of celebration of gospel. We went in
- 43:21Speaker 1: with more from Marn McDonald and money making conversations. Don't

- 45:02Speaker 1: the Budget the Style. You know, that's the she's like Oprah.
- 45:11Speaker 1: You know, you'll give out a whole name. It's Tiffany
- 45:13Speaker 1: the Budget the Style. Well, how are you doing. I'm
- 45:19Speaker 1: really well, I'm good. I'm excited to be here. Thank
- 45:22Speaker 1: you there. First of all, where are you based. I'm
- 45:24Speaker 1: based in New Jersey, New Jersey. New York is my
- 45:27Speaker 1: favorite city, So I'm gonna be a lot. So we
- 45:30Speaker 1: have to do lunch brothers when I come up there,
- 45:33Speaker 1: because I try to create relationships that are real and honest,
- 45:36Speaker 1: because I bring individuals on this show not only for
- 45:39Speaker 1: information about for myself. This is a real selfis show
- 45:43Speaker 1: because everybody that interview improves my own personal life or
- 45:46Speaker 1: my knowledge and so but in the turn, I share
- 45:49Speaker 1: what I learned with my listeners and my viewers and
- 45:53Speaker 1: my followers and you my friend and an amazing individual,
- 45:58Speaker 1: and I want to talk about how did it all?
- 46:00Speaker 1: How did this whole thing about budgeting? You know, they're
- 46:03Speaker 1: awareness of financial literacy. How did this start for you? Well,
- 46:07Speaker 1: I was fortunate enough to be born into it. My
- 46:10Speaker 1: father was a CFO and an accountant. He was retired now,
- 46:15Speaker 1: and my mom just really good at managing our families, um,
- 46:19Speaker 1: day to day budget. I'm one of five girls, so
- 46:22Speaker 1: you know, you got to learn how to budget you
- 46:23Speaker 1: have all those kids, especially all these girls, right, And
- 46:29Speaker 1: so I just grew up. I mean, so both of
- 46:31Speaker 1: my parents were born and raised in Nigeria, and Nigeria
- 46:34Speaker 1: tends to be a very male dominated culture. But because
- 46:38Speaker 1: it's I'm just so glad I didn't have any brothers,
- 46:41Speaker 1: because I suspect if I would have had brothers, my
- 46:43Speaker 1: dad would have taught one of them and then expect
- 46:46Speaker 1: that my brothers to look after us, you know, But
- 46:49Speaker 1: instead he had a girl after girl after girl after
- 46:52Speaker 1: girl um and said, well, I'm going to teach you
- 46:55Speaker 1: how to look at I'm gonna teach you how to
- 46:58Speaker 1: look after yourself. So he st have had a more
- 47:00Speaker 1: lawn who's got to sort of change our oil? And
- 47:02Speaker 1: he caught us about money and we would have weekly
- 47:04Speaker 1: money meetings and it became normal. And so that's how
- 47:07Speaker 1: it started for me. Well, you know, my degree is
- 47:10Speaker 1: in mathematics, and so I you know, I'm good and finances.
- 47:14Speaker 1: I can't do my taxes. I refused to do my taxes.
- 47:17Speaker 1: I was just I have this mental block when it
- 47:19Speaker 1: comes to my tax I think it's called being audited, okay,
- 47:22Speaker 1: and I don't want to make sure that. I want
- 47:23Speaker 1: to make sure those numbers are right. So I paid
- 47:25Speaker 1: somebody to do that. Now, for your father to have
- 47:29Speaker 1: these weekly meetings gave you an enormous amount of confidence
- 47:33Speaker 1: when it comes to talking about financial literacy. Talk about
- 47:37Speaker 1: that it did, because I think I don't think um,
- 47:41Speaker 1: people realize that there is no such thing as normal,
- 47:44Speaker 1: and that you can set normal for your child. And so,
- 47:48Speaker 1: you know, since I can't remember being like three or four, um,
- 47:52Speaker 1: and they leaguely remember, Like I used to love to
- 47:54Speaker 1: hear water run before functually was the cool thing. I
- 47:57Speaker 1: love the water, and I would turn on the faucets
- 47:59Speaker 1: and house and walked away because I just wanted to
- 48:01Speaker 1: hear the water. And so my dad, you know, I
- 48:03Speaker 1: was like, how do we get this girl to stop
- 48:05Speaker 1: wasting this water? And so what he told me. I
- 48:07Speaker 1: remember one time the icy man was coming to ice
- 48:10Speaker 1: cream truck right outside. Came back in to get my dollar.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Because one thing with five kids, everybody's not getting ice
- 48:17Speaker 1: cream every single day. So my day was Tuesday. It
- 48:20Speaker 1: was a Tuesday. Let me go get my dollars from that.
- 48:27Speaker 1: But even the lesson of like rotating days, that's a
- 48:29Speaker 1: financial lessons. So I want to get my my dollar.
- 48:32Speaker 1: My dad padded his box and said, uh, I forgot
- 48:34Speaker 1: I just gave you ad your dollar to the water man.
- 48:37Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, who's that. He was like, that's
- 48:39Speaker 1: the man we had to pay every time you run
- 48:40Speaker 1: the water. So he was teaching me about the bills.
- 48:43Speaker 1: But what he did wasn't he aligned it what what
- 48:46Speaker 1: was important to me, which was my ice cream. So
- 48:48Speaker 1: I was devastated, Like, wait, so every time I run
- 48:51Speaker 1: the water, that money goes somewhere. Well, I'm not running
- 48:54Speaker 1: that water anymore. And so you know, he normalized that
- 48:58Speaker 1: kind of conversation, but he made an appropriate and so
- 49:01Speaker 1: as a result, you know, I knew very early on
- 49:04Speaker 1: I understood the way money worked. I understood about living
- 49:08Speaker 1: below your means did not mean that you had less.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I wasn't afraid to talk about money. I mean, to me,
- 49:13Speaker 1: I'm not afraid, you know, of money conversations because he
- 49:16Speaker 1: normalized that, and I think that's the advantage, the competitive
- 49:20Speaker 1: edge I feel like I have. Now, that's that's amazing
- 49:22Speaker 1: that you know you would like to discuss our ways,
- 49:25Speaker 1: five ways to repair your finances for the new year.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Now that's important because here's the deal. People always in
- 49:31Speaker 1: the year, you know, without a plan, and then they
- 49:34Speaker 1: start the year without a plan. How did you know
- 49:37Speaker 1: when you're in January? You you know everything's clean, quote unquote,
- 49:42Speaker 1: you know? How do you what are the five ways
- 49:45Speaker 1: to repair your finances for the new year? We have
- 49:49Speaker 1: to start with the budget. I know people don't like
- 49:51Speaker 1: to hear the word budget, but a budget is merely
- 49:54Speaker 1: just a physical picture of what your money is doing,
- 49:57Speaker 1: so that way you can tell it where you wanted
- 50:00Speaker 1: to go. So it's just a list of all your
- 50:02Speaker 1: finances and what you're spending monthly on on everything and
- 50:07Speaker 1: subtracting it from what you take home every month. You
- 50:09Speaker 1: have to get that clear picture. So that's number one.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Getting that budget in place. Okay, I've done that. I've
- 50:14Speaker 1: done that. Now I'm telling something. It's harder now, but
- 50:16Speaker 1: I was when my life card got so many businesses,
- 50:19Speaker 1: so I have somebody else do it. But that was
- 50:21Speaker 1: really important for me because of the fact that no
- 50:24Speaker 1: I gotta pay rent, No I got a light bill,
- 50:26Speaker 1: No I got a cable bill, and I got you know,
- 50:28Speaker 1: water electrical. All that those little buildings set aside some
- 50:32Speaker 1: money for food that I would eat or in it
- 50:35Speaker 1: a certain amount of money for entertainment. It has to
- 50:37Speaker 1: be that granular when you talk talking about that month budget. Correct, correct,
- 50:41Speaker 1: especially in the beginning when you have when you when
- 50:43Speaker 1: you have a little bit more space, so maybe you're
- 50:45Speaker 1: making a little bit more you you you have some
- 50:48Speaker 1: space to to be a little bit more general. But
- 50:50Speaker 1: when things are really tight, that means your budget has
- 50:52Speaker 1: to be super tight. You need to know where every
- 50:55Speaker 1: all your money is going. So that's first and foremost,
- 50:58Speaker 1: and then number two, it's the same plan. Nobody loves
- 51:02Speaker 1: the idea of savings, but here's how you make it easy.
- 51:05Speaker 1: You make your money inconvenient. I believe in having at
- 51:08Speaker 1: least one online only savings account because one you're gonna
- 51:12Speaker 1: get a higher interest rate payout. So your normal brick
- 51:15Speaker 1: and mortar bank is paying right now point zero zero
- 51:18Speaker 1: one percent. I literally just looked point zero zero one percent.
- 51:22Speaker 1: Now keep it in your pocket, keeping in your get
- 51:24Speaker 1: knocked in a piece of a penny, right, you're like,
- 51:29Speaker 1: and so, but if you put your some of your
- 51:31Speaker 1: savings in an online only bank, Um, there's one in
- 51:34Speaker 1: particular right now that's giving two percent interest. So that's
- 51:37Speaker 1: not bad. That's two pennies. But that's better than a
- 51:40Speaker 1: piece of a penny. And so saving your money an
- 51:43Speaker 1: online only bank, one you're going to get a higher
- 51:45Speaker 1: interest rate, and two you're gonna make your money inconvenient
- 51:48Speaker 1: because if you want to get your money back. So
- 51:51Speaker 1: I don't believe in having your checking account at an
- 51:53Speaker 1: online only bank, just your savings, so that way you
- 51:55Speaker 1: don't have access. The only way you have access is
- 51:58Speaker 1: to transfer back to your regular bank account, your regular
- 52:01Speaker 1: checking account at your at your brick and mortar physical bank.
- 52:05Speaker 1: That transfer takes about twenty four um hours if not longer.
- 52:09Speaker 1: And so what that means is it's gonna be hard
- 52:12Speaker 1: for you to spend money that you have to wait
- 52:14Speaker 1: on for for at least one day. So creating like
- 52:17Speaker 1: a simple savings fan where you're putting your money aside
- 52:20Speaker 1: and making it inconvenient, the budget needs to got it
- 52:23Speaker 1: going out what she told people want to know. Now,
- 52:28Speaker 1: how do we follow you this budget? Nesta critics, I
- 52:36Speaker 1: am the budget needs to on every platform. So just
- 52:39Speaker 1: the budget needs to on Facebook, on Instagram, on Twitter,
- 52:43Speaker 1: the budget needsta dot com on snapchat, on YouTube if
- 52:46Speaker 1: you just type in the budget Neista, I'm the one
- 52:49Speaker 1: and the only and its trademarks. I know it is.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I know this Okay, budget needs to because the people
- 52:53Speaker 1: don't there and be the type budget is that any is?
- 52:56Speaker 1: Is that t budget? Budget? It with Nissta n I
- 53:01Speaker 1: s t A. That is who she is. That's the
- 53:04Speaker 1: brand that she's trademark. That's how she's making money these days.
- 53:07Speaker 1: But she's making money, I think and I always failing
- 53:09Speaker 1: the pay forward manner. She's taking some challenge that her
- 53:12Speaker 1: father nurtured in her as a child. Do you really
- 53:15Speaker 1: understand what he was doing and that the dad was
- 53:17Speaker 1: just sending the framework to say, this is how you
- 53:20Speaker 1: can be successful. Your dad is giving you the life.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I always tell people as a parent, all you want
- 53:25Speaker 1: your child to be is to have a better lifestyle
- 53:27Speaker 1: than you have. That's all you want for your child.
- 53:30Speaker 1: And you've taken that and I know he has to
- 53:31Speaker 1: be proud about. There's what was your mom? I don't
- 53:34Speaker 1: want to leave her out. I want like dad did
- 53:36Speaker 1: all the work, because when you have a when you
- 53:38Speaker 1: have a household that has both parents, they both they
- 53:41Speaker 1: both blend and shape you as a as a as
- 53:43Speaker 1: an individual that you are today. So we're just the
- 53:46Speaker 1: ultimate goal, Tiffany, the budgets stuff, what's the ultimate goal? Well,
- 53:50Speaker 1: my ultimate goal is throwing a billion dollar company, of
- 53:52Speaker 1: the company that's valued that a billion dollars, one that
- 53:56Speaker 1: transforms the lives of women worldwide. Um that I just
- 54:00Speaker 1: I want to help millions of millions of women to
- 54:03Speaker 1: get to where they are, from where they are to
- 54:04Speaker 1: where they want to be. Money is merely just a
- 54:07Speaker 1: tool that we're using. Um. I want ten twenty years
- 54:10Speaker 1: from now, when when folks are looking back, what was
- 54:14Speaker 1: the shift? What happened? How did all of these women,
- 54:16Speaker 1: you know, how did our culture, our community go from
- 54:20Speaker 1: struggling financially to the space where people feel secure. I
- 54:25Speaker 1: want to be one of the bullet points and to
- 54:27Speaker 1: we can we can point it back to tifficitly starting
- 54:30Speaker 1: this movement with her team. UM yeah, I've always been
- 54:33Speaker 1: a teacher before Before I started the budget these, I
- 54:35Speaker 1: was actually a preschool teacher for ten years. But it
- 54:38Speaker 1: is my purpose, passion, and mission to continue to teach
- 54:42Speaker 1: for as long as as I'm allowed to. Well, you know,
- 54:45Speaker 1: you're an award winning teacher of financial education and I
- 54:48Speaker 1: quickly become an America's favorite personal financial educator. And uh,
- 54:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna know it all and uh and that's good.
- 54:56Speaker 1: When you want these shows, you out to act like
- 54:58Speaker 1: you know it all. But when you run across individu
- 55:00Speaker 1: jewels like Tiffany, who really opened your eyes that she's
- 55:03Speaker 1: talking to and changing the world. She's changing the world
- 55:05Speaker 1: how people look at money, how they should live their lives,
- 55:08Speaker 1: you cannot stop. You should follow her advice. I'm gonna
- 55:10Speaker 1: support her. You have a friend in the social media
- 55:14Speaker 1: game with you, and my fan club will be open
- 55:17Speaker 1: to you. Um and I admire you, so you keep
