- 1:03Speaker 1: than just reheat frozen foods and left those so. She
- 1:07Speaker 1: documented the journey on YouTube. Now with over seven hundred
- 1:10Speaker 1: and thirty five thousand followers across social media. She can
- 1:14Speaker 1: do no wrong with an air frier. Please work in
- 1:17Speaker 1: the Money Making Conversations master class. I'm gonna call it
- 1:19Speaker 1: my friend, Kathy Yoda.
- 1:21Speaker 3: How you doing, Kathy, I'm so good, so happy to
- 1:24Speaker 3: be here.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Air Friars. Now, I will tell you this. Let's gotta
- 1:28Speaker 1: be a confession. I bought my wife and I fry.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I have an air fr at work. I've never used it.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Why at my knucklehead, Kathy, I.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Don't know, but you need me in your life.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Okay, good, let's get started. That's why I brought you
- 1:42Speaker 1: on the show because two things I want to talk about.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I want to talk about the air friars and I
- 1:46Speaker 1: also want to talk about branding and using social media
- 1:49Speaker 1: and how he was able to grow your brand through
- 1:52Speaker 1: this and it has changed your life on public speaking opportunities,
- 1:57Speaker 1: branding opportunities, and also gain yourself some fun Andrew Lincolm.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But let's start with the air fryer. What exactly is
- 2:03Speaker 1: an air fryer.
- 2:05Speaker 3: It's just a mini conviction or sorry, mini convection oven.
- 2:10Speaker 3: So it's just your oven with the fan and some heat.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And since it's in a small chamber you like pretty
- 2:17Speaker 3: much can skip the preheat process, so you've already saved
- 2:20Speaker 3: ten fifteen minutes. And then it cooks food faster because
- 2:24Speaker 3: the hot air is just circulating around. So it's just
- 2:27Speaker 3: a huge timesaver for me.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Okay, cool, Now, cause I mentioned eight kids, can I
- 2:32Speaker 1: ask the age range of your kids? Got come from
- 2:34Speaker 1: a big family, six sisters, two brothers, so I was
- 2:37Speaker 1: born into a family. Now you're raising eight kids. Talk
- 2:41Speaker 1: to us about that, right.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Well, my oldest is almost twenty nine, yep, if I'm
- 2:47Speaker 3: getting old. My youngest is ten, so yeah, I in
- 2:52Speaker 3: his graduation my oldest in his graduation pictures, I was
- 2:55Speaker 3: a massive that ready to give birth to my last baby.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So yeah, I got ten sorry, eight kids and ten
- 3:03Speaker 3: year eight kids in eighteen years. There we go, and
- 3:09Speaker 3: just three teenagers at home now, well, my ten year
- 3:11Speaker 3: old and two other teenagers at home, so life has
- 3:15Speaker 3: calmed down a little bit.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Good? Not good? Well, let's talk about this a fry now?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Can I cook anything or bake anything? Because I'm really
- 3:25Speaker 1: confused when I asked these questions. I look at it,
- 3:28Speaker 1: it looks normal. I've heard all the good things about
- 3:31Speaker 1: an air fire will be healthier. You don't have to
- 3:34Speaker 1: use grease, But just walk me through the airf our
- 3:38Speaker 1: history if you can, and why you use it so much.
- 3:42Speaker 3: You know, I'm honestly not even sure about the whole
- 3:45Speaker 3: historical context of the airfire. I believe it's been around
- 3:48Speaker 3: for quite some time, but for me, I started using
- 3:52Speaker 3: it about five years ago. It was kind of becoming,
- 3:56Speaker 3: you know, a little bit more prominent, and you're hearing
- 3:58Speaker 3: about it. You're like, what in the heck is that?
- 4:01Speaker 3: So I finally bought one, and it sat in the
- 4:04Speaker 3: pantry in the box for a long time. And then
- 4:08Speaker 3: we had people coming over for dinner and I was like,
- 4:10Speaker 3: we're going to make burgers and fries. So I was like, okay,
- 4:14Speaker 3: here we go, made myself some fries. They took forever
- 4:17Speaker 3: because I did it all wrong. Anyway. It was an
- 4:20Speaker 3: embarrassing evening and I was like, that thing's stupid. I'm
- 4:25Speaker 3: not using anymore. And again it just sat forever until
- 4:31Speaker 3: about twenty early twenty twenty. I was like, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 3: this was right before COVID happened. I was like, you
- 4:36Speaker 3: know what, there's gotta be more to that, and so
- 4:39Speaker 3: I pulled it out, and I just started figuring things
- 4:41Speaker 3: out some of my favorite things to make in it.
- 4:43Speaker 3: So really the rule is if you can grill it,
- 4:46Speaker 3: if you can bake it. Not all things that you
- 4:51Speaker 3: deep fry will work perfectly in it. So like a
- 4:54Speaker 3: funnel cake, you're not going to make in the air
- 4:57Speaker 3: fire right any wet better, but otherwise you can air
- 5:02Speaker 3: fry it. So some of my favorite things are like
- 5:04Speaker 3: salmon before you.
- 5:06Speaker 1: In the conversation, because you said you pulled it out
- 5:09Speaker 1: the first time and it was a disaster. Now when
- 5:11Speaker 1: you look back on it, what did you do wrong
- 5:14Speaker 1: when you used it the first time? So I can
- 5:16Speaker 1: avoid that mistake.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I didn't take too much time to read directions, and
- 5:24Speaker 3: I'm usually just like, oh, let's jump in and figure
- 5:26Speaker 3: it out. I also cooked way too many fries in
- 5:30Speaker 3: the air fire that I had, and that particular airfier
- 5:34Speaker 3: that I had wasn't a great airfier. I use a
- 5:38Speaker 3: different one now, so you know, it's kind of a domination.
- 5:42Speaker 1: All air fris. Let me get out to my audience first,
- 5:44Speaker 1: all air fris are not created equal. No, no, okay,
- 5:49Speaker 1: can I ask what brain you're using?
- 5:52Speaker 3: I have probably about three different brands that I use
- 5:55Speaker 3: right now. Kasori is one. There's another called a Typher.
- 6:03Speaker 3: It's like a dome. It's a basket airfire, but it's
- 6:05Speaker 3: really wide, like has a fifteen by fifteen basket, more shallow.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And then I've recently started using the mightia of Inn
- 6:15Speaker 3: style airfryer.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Okay, now, so you use them, you say you have three,
- 6:21Speaker 1: so you use them for different purposes?
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I've owned over twenty of them just
- 6:28Speaker 3: for my channel reviewing and testing airfriers, so I currently
- 6:33Speaker 3: have I think five in my pantry. So I can't
- 6:38Speaker 3: even think of what the other brands are that I
- 6:39Speaker 3: have in my pantry. But it's usually you know, what
- 6:44Speaker 3: I'm filming, and then that just airfier will just sit
- 6:47Speaker 3: out on my counter for a while. Cool, So I
- 6:50Speaker 3: couldn't say there's one that I love over all the others.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Okay, My listeners are who are anxious to learn about
- 6:58Speaker 1: air fires, just like I am. Talk to about employees
- 7:01Speaker 1: and one of them he uses it all the time.
- 7:03Speaker 1: He said he has an air fr then he bought
- 7:05Speaker 1: another air fire. He hated it, so he went back
- 7:07Speaker 1: to his original air fire. And just like you were saying,
- 7:10Speaker 1: all air friers are not created equal. Do your research,
- 7:13Speaker 1: read the reviews. I assume when you're looking at airfriers
- 7:17Speaker 1: that you want to purchase, okay, as a starter kit
- 7:20Speaker 1: to get introduced me into the airfrying game. Use about
- 7:24Speaker 1: to start mentioning some of your favorites that you use
- 7:27Speaker 1: in cooking with an air fry talk to us.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yeah, So, I mean I do have a video on
- 7:32Speaker 3: my channel where I talk about the different things to
- 7:36Speaker 3: look for, Like I teach people focus more on instead
- 7:39Speaker 3: of you know, someone say it's two courts, six courts,
- 7:43Speaker 3: twenty courts, look at the horizontal cooking space, and then
- 7:48Speaker 3: you want to have some good wattage. So usually generally
- 7:53Speaker 3: I go for six courts about seventeen hundred watts. That way,
- 7:56Speaker 3: it's going to just cook efficiently. There's some that are
- 7:59Speaker 3: large that have lower wattage and they take forever and
- 8:02Speaker 3: you don't get good results, so you want to avoid those.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Okay. So you're saying that the amount of wattage will
- 8:08Speaker 1: impact your cooking as well. Well. I keep getting back
- 8:12Speaker 1: from you and I'm just being obvious that don't be
- 8:15Speaker 1: cheap on your air fryer. Could it can wind up
- 8:18Speaker 1: hurting you.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Right, yeah, And the biggest mistake people make is buying
- 8:22Speaker 3: one too small. Like I've had so many comments on
- 8:26Speaker 3: my videos or like oh I bought a four court
- 8:29Speaker 3: or a five court or two court, and I had
- 8:33Speaker 3: to upgrade immediately because it wasn't there wasn't enough room.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going in. What is the recommended size that
- 8:40Speaker 1: I should go and get? Just a guy? Who I
- 8:43Speaker 1: like to cook in my regular oven? Okay, I you
- 8:46Speaker 1: know I do, of course fries. Of course? Can I
- 8:50Speaker 1: bake in an air fryer?
- 8:51Speaker 3: H yeah, yeah, I love like lava cakes and the
- 8:55Speaker 3: air fire, little pastries, rolls. Yeah, you can do so
- 9:01Speaker 3: many things in the air fiyer.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Okay, So what's the recommended side that you would say
- 9:05Speaker 1: for Okay, I would go.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I would go six court, seventeen hundred watts.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Six court seventeen hundred watchs is to recommend the size
- 9:13Speaker 1: from the Queen of air friers. If you want to
- 9:16Speaker 1: go out there and get your very first air fry
- 9:18Speaker 1: that you won't look around and go I got to
- 9:19Speaker 1: upgrade immediately because buying too small can make you come
- 9:23Speaker 1: back and want to upgrade.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Now you're wasting money.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Now what made you think? What gave you the idea
- 9:30Speaker 1: to start videotaping yourself and uploading this to YouTube?
- 9:35Speaker 3: You know it was? It actually started with a conversation
- 9:39Speaker 3: I had at a business conference in twenty nineteen. So
- 9:43Speaker 3: I've had a blog since two thousand and eight. I
- 9:46Speaker 3: had a money saving blog. We posted recipes on it.
- 9:49Speaker 3: And so I was at a conference and I was
- 9:52Speaker 3: talking to another blogger and she's like, you know what,
- 9:55Speaker 3: You've got to get on YouTube. You've got a lot
- 9:57Speaker 3: of recipes. She was doing YouTube and just crushing it,
- 10:01Speaker 3: and so I was like, Okay, it's always good to
- 10:03Speaker 3: have another revenue stream, right, And I was like, can
- 10:07Speaker 3: you coach me? So I hired her to coach me,
- 10:10Speaker 3: which was the smartest thing I did because it really
- 10:12Speaker 3: fast checked my effort my time. So I started uploading
- 10:18Speaker 3: different types of you coached you?
- 10:20Speaker 1: What do you mean when you say coached you? What
- 10:21Speaker 1: does she do when you coach me? Because now it's
- 10:23Speaker 1: kind of like training people who want to get into
- 10:26Speaker 1: YouTube marketing self marketing. You say she coached you, talk
- 10:31Speaker 1: to us about that. Yep.
- 10:32Speaker 3: So she just hopped on the phone with me and
- 10:34Speaker 3: just helped me figure out the strategy and just said,
- 10:37Speaker 3: here's what we're gonna do. We got recipes, but we're
- 10:39Speaker 3: not just going to do any recipe. We're going to
- 10:41Speaker 3: start with instant pot recipes, Airfrier slow cooker, freezer mills,
- 10:48Speaker 3: and copycat. So I had my four to six buckets
- 10:53Speaker 3: is what we call them, and I just alternated between
- 10:56Speaker 3: creating content in those different topic areas, and then after
- 11:00Speaker 3: a few months, the only things that were really starting
- 11:03Speaker 3: to get used were the Airfier recipes. Okay, So after
- 11:09Speaker 3: doing that, I think it was maybe five or six months,
- 11:11Speaker 3: I just dialed and went all in on Airfrier content.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So I would say this then like I have a TikTok,
- 11:20Speaker 1: and one of my staffs started telling me, you know what, Sean,
- 11:25Speaker 1: people always commenting about how you dress when you cook,
- 11:29Speaker 1: so comments, Reading comments is important because it led you
- 11:34Speaker 1: to understand that people are really engaged when it comes
- 11:38Speaker 1: to the air fire and it turned your attention. So
- 11:42Speaker 1: comments can help you lead you in the right direction
- 11:44Speaker 1: of your branding.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Correct, Absolutely, Yeah, just listening to the viewer right and
- 11:50Speaker 3: having that it's a two way connection. They come into
- 11:52Speaker 3: my home, they see my family, they see my mistakes,
- 11:56Speaker 3: and then on my end, I read their comment and
- 12:00Speaker 3: I'll respond, I'll make a video because of a comment,
- 12:03Speaker 3: right right, and just it's a great source of inspiration
- 12:08Speaker 3: and connection.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
- 12:13Speaker 4: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
- 12:23Speaker 4: Conversations Masterclass hosted by Rashaan McDonald cool.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm speaking to Kathy Yoda. She is the queen of
- 12:30Speaker 1: air friars and also because of the air frier usage
- 12:34Speaker 1: that she documented, social media blew up. Now where are
- 12:38Speaker 1: you your largest following? What platform is your largest following?
- 12:42Speaker 3: It is YouTube for sure?
- 12:44Speaker 1: YouTube for sure. Can I just ask you? Do you
- 12:47Speaker 1: generate revenue on YouTube with your platform?
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yes? Yep. I can tell you more about that if
- 12:55Speaker 3: you want, Yes I do. Okay, all right, So YouTube
- 12:59Speaker 3: is the long game. You're not gonna make money right
- 13:02Speaker 3: at the beginning, I after uploading for about six five
- 13:08Speaker 3: six months, I made my first check, which was a
- 13:11Speaker 3: dollar thirty six. I was like, oh, that's a lot
- 13:17Speaker 3: of work. It has a lot of work for a
- 13:20Speaker 3: dollar thirty six. Then the next month I made it
- 13:24Speaker 3: was right around one hundred and forty six dollars. Okay,
- 13:27Speaker 3: So I was like, okay, okay, and then the next
- 13:30Speaker 3: month I made right around three hundred dollars.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Okay.
- 13:35Speaker 3: But I have a business partner and he was like, hey, Kathy,
- 13:39Speaker 3: you are spending a lot of time on this. At
- 13:42Speaker 3: what point are we gonna, you know, see some money,
- 13:45Speaker 3: you know, to make it worth your time. So we
- 13:47Speaker 3: set a goal if by I think at that point
- 13:51Speaker 3: in time, we had like about six months. If I
- 13:53Speaker 3: wasn't making four thousand dollars a month on YouTube, then
- 13:57Speaker 3: I was gonna stop spending time there. So I had
- 14:00Speaker 3: this six more month window, and I was like, I
- 14:04Speaker 3: believe I'm filling a gap. There's not enough good content,
- 14:09Speaker 3: and I want to be patient with the process. So
- 14:11Speaker 3: he was like, okay, let's do it. And then December
- 14:15Speaker 3: twenty twenty happened. I started that month with I can't
- 14:21Speaker 3: remember how many subscribers I had. I got a picture somewhere,
- 14:24Speaker 3: but I started the month with maybe it was two
- 14:27Speaker 3: thousand subscribers or twenty five hundred, and the week of Christmas,
- 14:31Speaker 3: my channel absolutely exploded and I ended the month with
- 14:36Speaker 3: I think it was ten thousand subscribers. And then fast
- 14:40Speaker 3: forward to March twenty twenty one, so three months later
- 14:44Speaker 3: I hit one hundred thousand subscribers.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Wow.
- 14:47Speaker 3: And at that point in time, I was making eight
- 14:51Speaker 3: or nine thousand dollars a month on YouTube.
- 14:54Speaker 1: So making how much a month?
- 14:56Speaker 3: Eight to nine thousand dollars in AdSense revenue?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Eight to nine thousand dollars a month? So would you
- 15:02Speaker 1: your partner say then he was.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Like, okay, yeah, so.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah, So now I became a business. Now when it
- 15:12Speaker 1: becomes a business, is it fun still? Because you kind
- 15:15Speaker 1: of like started this out as a fun journey. Now
- 15:20Speaker 1: you see, revenue is the goal that increase the subscribers
- 15:24Speaker 1: or generate more revenue. What's the goal then?
- 15:28Speaker 3: So for me, the long term goal became not to
- 15:31Speaker 3: just rely on YouTube ad sense. My audience started asking
- 15:36Speaker 3: for a cookbook, and I was like, eh, I don't
- 15:39Speaker 3: know how to do that. So I let me back
- 15:43Speaker 3: up a little bit. I was doing you know, Google
- 15:45Speaker 3: ad sense is the YouTube ad revenue. And then I
- 15:49Speaker 3: am an Amazon affiliate and so naturally people are like, well,
- 15:52Speaker 3: what airfier are you using? What accessories are you using?
- 15:57Speaker 3: And so I would use my Amazon affiliate links in
- 16:00Speaker 3: my description, and so I was earning money that way
- 16:02Speaker 3: as well. And then my people were saying, please, we
- 16:05Speaker 3: want a cookbook, and I was giving them the entire
- 16:09Speaker 3: recipe on the video. I was writing the entire recipe out.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I was giving everything away. Yet they still wanted to
- 16:16Speaker 3: buy cookbook from me. So I was like, okay, all
- 16:20Speaker 3: I put an e book together. It's like, I can
- 16:22Speaker 3: do an e book. That's easy. So I did that.
- 16:25Speaker 3: We launched that in May twenty twenty one.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Okay, cool, right there, you did an e book what
- 16:30Speaker 1: type of recipes for your air fryer? And it is
- 16:33Speaker 1: still available. We're in your first e book.
- 16:37Speaker 3: We don't sell that one anymore. But it was just
- 16:40Speaker 3: a variety, man, I don't remember chicken, pork, salmon, some
- 16:46Speaker 3: side dishes. And then I had a little separate dessert
- 16:50Speaker 3: ebook that I sold that they could add on to
- 16:52Speaker 3: their organs.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And they bought it, and they bought it and they
- 16:55Speaker 1: bought it.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that first weekend, I think we made fifteen thousand
- 16:58Speaker 3: dollars from ebook sales. I was selling them for fourteen
- 17:02Speaker 3: ninety five.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Okay, okay, now crazy, so use just a money machine
- 17:09Speaker 1: right now? You know, nine thousand dollars a month on
- 17:12Speaker 1: your YouTube. You do an ebook because when you say ebook,
- 17:16Speaker 1: you know, it's more like a pamphlet. Let's gonna be real.
- 17:18Speaker 3: It wasn't really, Yeah, it was fifty recipes.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Right, fifty there's a pamphlet. There's a pamphlet, and you
- 17:24Speaker 1: was selling that for I love the way you do it.
- 17:26Speaker 1: It's really fifteen dollars, but it's fourteen ninety nine, so
- 17:29Speaker 1: that all they hear is fourteen. That's good marketing. That's
- 17:32Speaker 1: good marketing. And you roughly made like fifteen thousand dollars
- 17:36Speaker 1: so our first joab. Yeah, so we take a deep breath, right,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you see there is money potential in your brand, Katy Yoda.
- 17:46Speaker 1: How do you go from there?
- 17:48Speaker 3: Well, so from there, a lot of my audience is
- 17:50Speaker 3: older and they don't enjoy it.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Just told the what do you mean over forty five
- 17:55Speaker 1: plus fifty five plus sixty five plus?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Okay cool, and they were like that's really nice and all,
- 18:02Speaker 3: but we want an actual cookbook. And again I'm like what,
- 18:06Speaker 3: I don't know how to do that. And so that was,
- 18:10Speaker 3: you know, summer of twenty twenty one. So finally I
- 18:15Speaker 3: just grinded and anyway, December, like it was two days
- 18:20Speaker 3: before Christmas, we finally had cookbooks ready to sell and
- 18:25Speaker 3: they weren't going to get their time for Christmas. But
- 18:27Speaker 3: we thought, we'll place an order of five hundred and
- 18:31Speaker 3: we'll just see how long that lasts. And that was
- 18:34Speaker 3: God in the first weekend. Like my partner thought, he
- 18:39Speaker 3: was blown away again. He's like, there's no way we
- 18:41Speaker 3: can sell cookbook. But we did so.
- 18:45Speaker 1: And if what was the price of that first official cookbook?
- 18:49Speaker 3: That was I think we sold them for twenty four
- 18:52Speaker 3: ninety five plus shipping, So about with shipping about thirty
- 18:56Speaker 3: two dollars.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Twenty four ninety five, which is really twenty five. But
- 19:00Speaker 1: marketing they only hear twenty four. I love it, you know.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I like about you, Catholic. You know you take that
- 19:08Speaker 1: homespun approach, but you're smart as a whip when it
- 19:13Speaker 1: comes to marketing techniques. Okay, because those little things are
- 19:19Speaker 1: like people go to Harvard Business School to learn, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 1: how do you market things and sell your price but
- 19:27Speaker 1: still make people they believe they get in a discount,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and that Nickel discount means a lot. If you sell
- 19:34Speaker 1: it for twenty five, all they say is twenty five,
- 19:36Speaker 1: that's too much. Twenty four. They never hear that ninety
- 19:40Speaker 1: five right now, at this point, you're on my show,
- 19:44Speaker 1: and you're my show because you have seven hundred over
- 19:46Speaker 1: seven hundred and thirty five thousand follows. What is your
- 19:49Speaker 1: YouTube subscriber number at right now?
- 19:52Speaker 3: It's I don't know for sure, it's right around seven
- 19:55Speaker 3: hundred and thirty. I mean, we didn't start Instagram account
- 20:01Speaker 3: until lasts well it's super and twenty. It's like summer
- 20:04Speaker 3: of twenty twenty three.
- 20:06Speaker 1: So I'm just how much content do you deliver it
- 20:09Speaker 1: a week than a month.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I started with two videos a week and now I
- 20:14Speaker 3: just have one upload a week, and then I've got
- 20:18Speaker 3: shorts going on twice a week.
- 20:20Speaker 1: So there's when you stay a video. How long is
- 20:22Speaker 1: that video?
- 20:23Speaker 3: They will be anywhere usually twelve roughly twelve to fifteen minutes,
- 20:28Speaker 3: but sometimes I have hour long ones and other times
- 20:32Speaker 3: like seven minute ones.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But because content means a lot in YouTube, that's how
- 20:37Speaker 1: you really get paid. Yes, can you talk to my
- 20:39Speaker 1: audience about that? You know, the amount of content, the
- 20:43Speaker 1: length of the content when you're trying to, like you said,
- 20:45Speaker 1: it's a long game, but how do you really start
- 20:47Speaker 1: generating revenue, especially when you slow down like you've slowed.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Down now, right, Honestly in the beginning. The more you
- 20:57Speaker 3: can create is going to do two things. It's going
- 21:00Speaker 3: to help you. Number one, become a better creator, because
- 21:04Speaker 3: you're going to see how terrible your videos are. You
- 21:06Speaker 3: could go watch my first video, and I've got my
- 21:09Speaker 3: head cut off a lot of the times I'm looking
- 21:12Speaker 3: over here instead of at the camera. It's a terrible video.
- 21:18Speaker 3: But I just started doing two a week just to
- 21:24Speaker 3: figure it out and figure out pacing and what was Well,
- 21:28Speaker 3: nobody was watching anyway, actually, so I was like, I
- 21:31Speaker 3: couldn't figure out what was resonating because no one was watching.
- 21:33Speaker 3: But I was learning how to do it. And then
- 21:36Speaker 3: I think the first video that started to take off
- 21:40Speaker 3: was I did some air fire donuts. The cool thing
- 21:43Speaker 3: is is because I had this back library of you
- 21:47Speaker 3: know what I now consider terrible videos. When somebody watched
- 21:51Speaker 3: my donut video, they're like, oh, what else does she have?
- 21:55Speaker 3: I had my other videos there that prior to that,
- 21:59Speaker 3: nobody was watching. So you just have to commit and
- 22:03Speaker 3: start recording and start publishing some crappy videos.
- 22:09Speaker 1: You know, just start show this now, because that's the
- 22:12Speaker 1: beauty of YouTube. You don't have to be polished. You
- 22:14Speaker 1: don't have to have the lighting ride, you don't have
- 22:17Speaker 1: to have to have low thirds and things like that.
- 22:20Speaker 1: What is a just talking about audience? Who never heard
- 22:23Speaker 1: of Kathy Yolder, the queen of a Friars? What is
- 22:26Speaker 1: the classic video that you produce? What are you trying
- 22:31Speaker 1: to message you? Do you have an opening? Do you
- 22:33Speaker 1: have a closing? Do you add music to it? Do
- 22:35Speaker 1: you add little thirds? Do you add the recipe? What
- 22:38Speaker 1: is your brand?
- 22:40Speaker 3: Well, it's morphed a little bit. I used to have
- 22:42Speaker 3: music going and I no longer do because I kept
- 22:46Speaker 3: getting comments that it was annoying, and I was like, actually,
- 22:49Speaker 3: you know what it is, So I don't do music anymore.
- 22:52Speaker 3: But I don't. I what I found is just getting
- 22:57Speaker 3: right to the subject matter instead of like, don't have
- 23:02Speaker 3: a video that has what they call a bumper that
- 23:05Speaker 3: is the one little segment that shows who you are
- 23:08Speaker 3: every single time, Like, people don't want to see that.
- 23:11Speaker 3: They want to know. They saw your thumbnail, they saw
- 23:13Speaker 3: your title. They want to see what you're going to
- 23:15Speaker 3: tell them. And in this world right they need to
- 23:19Speaker 3: see it within the first three seconds. They need to
- 23:20Speaker 3: know that you're going to deliver on that promise of
- 23:23Speaker 3: the thumbnail title.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Not Kathy, you say you have an hour video. Now
- 23:30Speaker 1: people actually watch you for an entire hour.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It's so annoying. No, no, nobody else. But the average
- 23:38Speaker 3: view duration on my hour long videos is a lot
- 23:41Speaker 3: longer than the average view duration of a twelve minute video.
- 23:47Speaker 3: So because I make that, I only do those about
- 23:50Speaker 3: once every quarter, and they're usually just I mean, they're
- 23:53Speaker 3: actually easy to produce because I pull out old recipes
- 23:57Speaker 3: and make a compilation video with a certain theme. So
- 24:00Speaker 3: the last one I did was I think it was
- 24:03Speaker 3: like thirty fifteen minute recipes and it's an hour long. Well,
- 24:09Speaker 3: YouTube makes more money when people watch that video, so
- 24:12Speaker 3: that's the one that gets new a lot of new subscribers,
- 24:16Speaker 3: a lot of new viewers. They push that out. So
- 24:20Speaker 3: if I make a great three minute video, no one
- 24:23Speaker 3: sees it because.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Wow, what digital marketing tips can you give? My audience?
- 24:28Speaker 1: As we talk about brand selling creating the brand, I
- 24:33Speaker 1: love the fact that you were just a regular person
- 24:36Speaker 1: that fell into the YouTube world. Saw revenue, but actually
- 24:42Speaker 1: you're the business partner was kind of like pushy though pushy,
- 24:46Speaker 1: you know, and he can he saw the talent in you,
- 24:51Speaker 1: and he saw the opportunity of generating revenue, but still
- 24:56Speaker 1: it was up to you to do the job. Talk
- 24:59Speaker 1: about digital marketing well at the very.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Core, and I think a lot of people are like this.
- 25:06Speaker 3: I just like to help people. And so when that
- 25:08Speaker 3: becomes your sole purpose of serving a person rather than
- 25:13Speaker 3: serving the algorithm necessarily, I mean, you still have to
- 25:16Speaker 3: be strategic, but at the end of the day, it's
- 25:19Speaker 3: about who is at home feeling overwhelmed with their air
- 25:23Speaker 3: fryer and serving them and talking to them and being authentic.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I think that's what has been the difference is that
- 25:30Speaker 3: if I make mistakes, I will show them. My kids
- 25:35Speaker 3: will come in and taste recipes. And there are some
- 25:39Speaker 3: kids I think they're ruthless. I've got my ten year old.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Sometimes we have video of her spitting food out in
- 25:45Speaker 3: the trash. You know, She's just like, this is terrible.
- 25:49Speaker 3: So just not being afraid to be real and capturing
- 25:53Speaker 3: that and sharing it, and so it's created this connection
- 25:58Speaker 3: where they trust me and I'm not going to ever
- 26:01Speaker 3: present something to them just you know, I get offers
- 26:06Speaker 3: for sponsored you know, a sponsored machine, and I'm like, well,
- 26:09Speaker 3: I've got to test it. Out first, and I'm like,
- 26:12Speaker 3: this is a terrible machine, and I'm going this is
- 26:14Speaker 3: what I will be saying. And you usually the sponsor
- 26:19Speaker 3: changes their mind when I give them my honest review,
- 26:23Speaker 3: and so that doesn't publish. But I will only share
- 26:26Speaker 3: what I can authentically stand behind.
- 26:30Speaker 1: So we have said you don't follow the money, follow
- 26:33Speaker 1: your brand. Grow your brand. You grow your brand and
- 26:36Speaker 1: people start realizing that there's no honesty tied to it,
- 26:40Speaker 1: that it's going to go away, right, And that's what
- 26:42Speaker 1: you meant when you said authenticity. Yes, yes, okay, cool? Well, Kathy,
- 26:46Speaker 1: what's the future of being the queen of app frres?
- 26:49Speaker 1: What are you going for?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Me?
- 26:50Speaker 3: Am?
- 26:50Speaker 1: I gonna turn on TV and see you on the
- 26:52Speaker 1: Food Network or you may have already been on the
- 26:54Speaker 1: Food Work. You're gonna be a judge. You're gonna be
- 26:57Speaker 1: like you know, Gordon, to be tearing down kitchens that
- 27:01Speaker 1: have bad food fry air fryers. What are you going
- 27:03Speaker 1: to because you're too nice? Now, you're too nice to
- 27:06Speaker 1: become an angry lady? What are you going to be, Kathy?
- 27:08Speaker 3: Yeah? Not definitely, not an angry lady. I am just
- 27:11Speaker 3: the mom at home who loves to create and serve
- 27:14Speaker 3: and you're probably a better cook than I am, honestly.
- 27:19Speaker 3: But what we're doing on my brand and Powered Cooks
- 27:23Speaker 3: is I'm creating more products that serve my audience. So
- 27:27Speaker 3: I have a separate brand called Pineapepper dot Co. That's
- 27:31Speaker 3: where all of our products are living. And then Empowered
- 27:34Speaker 3: Cooks is where I educate. So just just growing the
- 27:39Speaker 3: audience and helping helping people out.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Well, you know, the interesting thing about it is we
- 27:44Speaker 1: close out this interview, I find it how it's so amazing.
- 27:48Speaker 1: You know, you're in Idaho and you're talking to people
- 27:51Speaker 1: throughout the United States, around this world, you know, and wow,
- 27:56Speaker 1: does that does that kind of like put you it
- 27:59Speaker 1: all of the what you are accomplishing? You know, mom
- 28:03Speaker 1: of eight who one day just started documenting and realized
- 28:07Speaker 1: you're getting you know, comments from Canada, comics, from Australia,
- 28:11Speaker 1: comics from England, Brazil, because I know they're coming from
- 28:15Speaker 1: you all over the world. And just put that in
- 28:19Speaker 1: perspective to my audience. As we close out this interview, Kathy, well,
- 28:23Speaker 1: you know.
- 28:23Speaker 3: It's it's powerful and sometimes I work really hard on
- 28:27Speaker 3: the video and then it just doesn't land well for
- 28:30Speaker 3: whatever reason, I'm like, oh, but then I forget you
- 28:33Speaker 3: know what, there's still like ten thousand people that watch that.
- 28:36Speaker 3: If I was in a room with ten thousand people,
- 28:38Speaker 3: that's still a lot of impact. And then I'll get
- 28:42Speaker 3: these comments from that just leave me to tears. But
- 28:46Speaker 3: usually it's men who've lost their wife. They're widowers and
- 28:50Speaker 3: have never cooked a day in their life, and they
- 28:53Speaker 3: got themselves an air fire and started watching my channel
- 28:56Speaker 3: and they know how to feed themselves. And comment from
- 29:00Speaker 3: one man just talked about my wife would be so
- 29:02Speaker 3: proud of me right now. Thank you so much, and
- 29:05Speaker 3: like like at the end of the day, sure it's
- 29:08Speaker 3: great to have money. Sure it's great when the video
- 29:11Speaker 3: goes fantastic, but really what matters is that person who
- 29:17Speaker 3: was feeling helpless and frustrated now feels empowered and that's like,
- 29:22Speaker 3: that's what gives me the real juice.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Wow, I can tell by your face in your eyes.
- 29:28Speaker 1: As an honest response, Kathy Yoda, thank you for coming
- 29:31Speaker 1: on Money Making Conversations master Class and teaching exposing us
- 29:36Speaker 1: about your experience with the I Fier, but more importantly
- 29:39Speaker 1: tell us the tricks of the trade of YouTube digital marketing.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And being consistent and putting a timeline. I think that's
- 29:46Speaker 1: important if you're going to do this, put a timeline
- 29:49Speaker 1: on what you're trying to accomplish and try to reach
- 29:51Speaker 1: those goals. If you're reaching those goals, then you're doing
- 29:54Speaker 1: something that is unreachable and you should try a new
- 29:57Speaker 1: technique and put a different plan together. Thank you, gain Cat.
- 30:00Speaker 1: If you're coming on Money Making Conversations Masterclass, I really
