Latest / The Lila Rose Show / Are Tradwives Taking Over + Trump's Crazy Iran Messaging | LIVE
Transcript
- 0:00Hey, we're going live. It's Wednesday.
- 0:02There's a new study out that says that 47% of Gen.
- 0:06Z wants to be trad wives. I don't know if you heard that.
- 0:09And it's only 23% that want to be girl bosses.
- 0:11We're going to be unpacking this.
- 0:13Where's the culture at right now with what it means to be a woman
- 0:16and what is the right view of women?
- 0:18What should we be aiming for as women?
- 0:20We're also going to get into the Iran war.
- 0:22I had some takes yesterday online that went that little bit
- 0:26controversial, at least among some people.
- 0:28We're going to be unpacking that.
- 0:30Thank God we're in a ceasefire right now.
- 0:31But this is something that I think all Americans, especially
- 0:34us, who care about peace and wanting to protect the dignity
- 0:37of human beings, should be thinking about.
- 0:40Welcome back to the Lila Roe show.
- 0:49All right, so this caught my eye recently.
- 0:51You have heard these phrases, girl boss, trad wife.
- 0:55We hear about women and all the time and what they should be or
- 1:00they shouldn't be. There's a lot of discourse about
- 1:02this and there's a whole generation of young women.
- 1:04There's certainly Gen. Alpha, even younger than Gen.
- 1:06Z. And then there's Gen.
- 1:07Z who are making their way in the world and trying to discover
- 1:11what is my purpose? How should I live out my life in
- 1:15this one life that I have? How should I show up as a woman?
- 1:19What kinds of careers or jobs should I pursue?
- 1:21Should I get married? How do I get married?
- 1:23Should I have kids? All of these are the questions
- 1:26that young girls and young men are asking themselves.
- 1:29Of course, there's more specific questions for men, but we are
- 1:31asking ourselves these questions.
- 1:33And there's a little bit of a history I want to do here about
- 1:37millennials versus Gen. Z versus Gen.
- 1:39Xers and how we've gotten to come around these terms and come
- 1:43to understand these terms. But first, I want us to take a
- 1:46look at this video about a survey that Fox News News has
- 1:49been promoting over the last few days that concluded that 47% of
- 1:53Gen. Z girls said that they would
- 1:56they wanted to be trad wives as opposed to 23% of them who said
- 2:00they wanted to be girl bosses. Let's take a listen to this Fox
- 2:03News clip. For so long there was this
- 2:05feminist movement that tried to push and tell us that we should
- 2:10all just kind of put aside wanting to start a family.
- 2:12Don't worry about getting married, don't worry about
- 2:15having kids. You should solely focus on your
- 2:18career. And I know so many women and you
- 2:20probably do too, Rachel, who got to a certain age and realized,
- 2:24wait a minute, this is something I actually want.
- 2:26And in many cases, they either had a huge struggle to have
- 2:29children or they couldn't do it at all.
- 2:31And they were left absolutely devastated.
- 2:34So we can give this a little pause.
- 2:35So this has been going viral because I think it's hitting a
- 2:38nerve. It's hitting a very real nerve
- 2:40because it is a fact that women have undergone societally huge
- 2:44shifts in the last several decades.
- 2:45Of course, it's significantly impacted men.
- 2:48It's 100% impacted children. It impacts every part of
- 2:50society. What is this shift?
- 2:52Well, since 3rd wave and then the subsequent 4th wave, 5th
- 2:56wave, maybe there will be a 6th wave.
- 2:58Feminisms. We have this now mentality today
- 3:01that women and men are not only equal under the law and equal
- 3:06indignity, but that women should be able to do do anything that a
- 3:09man does. That includes not be pregnant,
- 3:12that includes going to the workforce and not be shackled by
- 3:15children. That we need to have women in
- 3:17STEM the same amount that we have men.
- 3:19I think about Sheryl Sandberg and she was a COO of Facebook.
- 3:23She wrote the book Lean In. She had this very controversial
- 3:26view in the book that we need at least 50% of women in the people
- 3:30in the boardroom to be women. So it needs to be 5050 women and
- 3:33men. I wonder if Cheryl has that view
- 3:35about active duty people on the front lines in combat.
- 3:38Should it be 50% percent women, 50% men?
- 3:40But it's this idea that we need to push women more into the
- 3:43workforce. Now, I have a lot of thoughts on
- 3:46this. I've talked about this before in
- 3:48the show, but I think it's really important.
- 3:50It's important because it matters how we raise our
- 3:52daughters. I have a daughter.
- 3:53It matters how we think about ourselves as women, if we're
- 3:56wives and mothers or aspiring wives and mothers.
- 3:58And so I first, I'm going to take issue with these terms and
- 4:02unpack them a little bit. And then I'm going to point to
- 4:04what I think is the right view at large of womanhood.
- 4:09But first, this this survey that Fox News has been promoting, 47%
- 4:12of Gen. Z women want to be trad wives
- 4:14today, as opposed to 23% want to be girl bosses.
- 4:16There's already an issue with the survey.
- 4:18So it's a little bit tricky to call this some sort of, you
- 4:21know, definitive study that's done on what girls today really
- 4:25think. They they got this survey from a
- 4:28essay writing service website that does uncontrolled online
- 4:33polling. So it basically was an online
- 4:34poll. And they also didn't define what
- 4:37these words meant for people who clicked the buttons on the poll.
- 4:40So in that sense, we don't know that we have a representative
- 4:43sample size. We don't know what women were
- 4:46thinking when they clicked the terms.
- 4:47If I had to pick between as an example, I was given only two
- 4:49options, Lila, you have to be a girl boss or you have to be a
- 4:52trad wife. I would 100% pick trad wife
- 4:55because girl boss basically sounds like I'm immature,
- 4:59focusing only on work and I don't care about marriage and
- 5:01family or God, which is all the most important things.
- 5:05So those are all issues. But underneath here there is a
- 5:09real current happening, and that's what I want to get to.
- 5:11So the memes of girlboss and tradwife have actually been
- 5:15along for a long, have been around for a long time.
- 5:18They're kind of becoming more of the common lexicon today.
- 5:21But girlboss was actually a fixture of 2010's, 2010's
- 5:25millennial feminism. So you might remember some of
- 5:28these older brands which were originated with the title of a
- 5:32memoir by the CEO of Nasty Gal. Which is a terrible.
- 5:35Brand name in my view, Sofia Amoroso, who said that she that
- 5:40the girl boss became that as a girl boss.
- 5:42She's a symbol of an era that explodes throughout Silicon
- 5:45Valley of prosperity of women who are being the leaders, the
- 5:50entrepreneurs. The CEO's then enters in Sheryl
- 5:53Sandberg and lean in. I remember being gifted.
- 5:56That book, I think maybe 15 years ago, and she wrote Lean In
- 6:01about this idea of women should double down.
- 6:05On being successful in the workforce.
- 6:07Now there's some things about that that I think are true and
- 6:10there's some dangers there that I think are problematic.
- 6:13We'll get into that in a moment, but then we've got trad wife and
- 6:16trad wife as this kind of meme answers the lexicon later.
- 6:20It was actually originally a 4 Chan me.
- 6:21I don't know if you can pull up this link Harris for trad wife
- 6:26being a 4 Chan mean, but it gained popularity mostly in the
- 6:29early 2020. So that's kind of a COVID post
- 6:31COVID aesthetic that became very popular on Instagram and TikTok.
- 6:36You have creators on Instagram and TikTok influencers like
- 6:40Hannah Neilman of ballerina farms and Nora Smith who are not
- 6:45very political, but they present the trad wife aesthetic as
- 6:49understood to be the trad wife aesthetic.
- 6:51Now, interestingly enough, these to women are not necessarily
- 6:56themselves branding themselves as trad wives.
- 6:58They're not saying I am a trad wife, but they're representing
- 7:01an aesthetic where they're with their kids a lot, they're
- 7:04working from home a lot. They're still very successful
- 7:07and beautiful, but they're very feminine.
- 7:09They often work very closely with their husbands.
- 7:11They're often cooking in their kitchens on camera and that
- 7:16represents at least has an aesthetic of a more traditional
- 7:19lifestyle. Now interestingly, Nara Smith
- 7:21has even said publicly recently that she's not a trad wife
- 7:25actually want to play this clip Harris if you can pull it so
- 7:29this is she's an extremely popular tick tocker and
- 7:32Instagram or and she is very lovely.
- 7:35She has several children, she's cooking in her kitchen while
- 7:38she's all glammed up. And she talks here about how
- 7:41actually, even though my aesthetic is commonly understood
- 7:44to be the trad wife aesthetic today, that's not actually how I
- 7:47identify. So we'll pull up this clip from
- 7:50Nara. They use me as this poster child
- 7:52of this like very traditional wife, and I'm not.
- 7:55There's nothing truly traditional about us as a couple
- 7:58apart from maybe that we chose to have kids young and get
- 8:00married young. But apart from that we split
- 8:02chores. 5050 There's things that Lucky does that I guess
- 8:05traditional men wouldn't do, like do the dishes or get the
- 8:09kids dressed. And there's things that I do
- 8:11like having a full time and having Lucky be home watching
- 8:14the children while I travel for two weeks.
- 8:16All right, so there she's saying very definitively, like I'm gone
- 8:18for two weeks and my husband's watching the kids.
- 8:20Like that is not typically the trade aesthetic at all.
- 8:23But I think what's universal here?
- 8:26Is that there is a natural order to being a woman.
- 8:30And I think separately, there's a natural order to masculinity
- 8:34that has a drive to, yes, reproduce, to create a family,
- 8:38to bring new life into the world, to find purpose in family
- 8:42and to find purpose in caring for that family.
- 8:45And as a woman, you naturally care for your family first and
- 8:48foremost through conceiving life, through nurturing life in
- 8:51your body, through delivering that life, nurturing life at
- 8:54your chest, through nurturing the life.
- 8:56Of this little young one and being there for them through
- 8:58mothering. Similarly, the the father does
- 9:01fathering but in a dissimilar way and that he's not nurturing
- 9:05the baby this with the way a mother will he'll he's
- 9:07protecting and providing. So there is this.
- 9:09Innate, I would say gender role that is very much connected to
- 9:15how we are designed. But how that looks couple to
- 9:19couple, person to person, is going to be very different.
- 9:23And that's where we get into the question of what is God's
- 9:27design? What is the universal
- 9:29prescription, if there is one for?
- 9:31Women in how they should identify as trad wife or how
- 9:35they should be trad wife, girl boss, whatever it is.
- 9:37And I think the answer that I'm going to give on this show is
- 9:40one that's going to be very freeing, I hope, and one that
- 9:43will, I hope, connect and resonate at a very deep level.
- 9:47For. Both men and women who listen
- 9:49before I get into that though, I want to look at another clip
- 9:52that's been circulating. This was a bit of a part of a
- 9:55controversial conversation controversial like I should say
- 9:58among some by the way, anything on the Internet becomes
- 10:00controversial. You guys, I'm sure you've seen
- 10:02this. So it's funny when I say it's
- 10:04controversial, you can literally post like I like Cheez its and
- 10:07it's. Controversial because cheez its
- 10:08are completely toxic for your body so it really you can do
- 10:11controversial things anytime any day by just giving any take
- 10:15because someone out there is going to disagree with you
- 10:16probably. Passionately, but this interview
- 10:19was between Caroline Lovett and I believe Erica Kirk, and it was
- 10:22about motherhood and work. Let's take a quick listen to
- 10:25this clip from Caroline Lovett, who's the press secretary for
- 10:28Donald Trump. You can and you should do both
- 10:30because actually being a mom and and having a family and having a
- 10:34job, it gives you the greatest perspective because you you can
- 10:37have the hardest, worst, most stressful day at your job.
- 10:40But when you go home to a beautiful baby and children who
- 10:44are just happy to see you no matter what, it is the most
- 10:48refreshing, beautiful thing and it gives you the best
- 10:51perspective on life like nothing else matters except for that you
- 10:56can and you should. So I love this last bit of what
- 10:59she's saying about how there's nothing more perspective giving
- 11:03than having children. And I think there's nothing more
- 11:05valuable. I think she was indicating that
- 11:07this first part there, she says you can and you should do both
- 11:09talking about work and motherhood.
- 11:11And this is where it gets tricky, right?
- 11:12So she's kind of giving offhand. I don't think this is like her
- 11:15main campaign of what she's trying to communicate.
- 11:17Caroline, I think she says a lot of lovely things, but this
- 11:19prescription of you can and you should do both.
- 11:21You can be a mother and you can and you should and you can work
- 11:24and you should do both. I think this is where we get
- 11:26into danger. We get into danger generally
- 11:29when we give universal prescriptions, universal
- 11:32prescriptions, meaning they're for all people and they're a
- 11:35prescription. It's like what you should do.
- 11:37We lay it out for all people, and we call that gospel.
- 11:41I think we can give principles and we should give principles,
- 11:45and Holy Scripture as Christians gives us principles.
- 11:47Our faith gives us beautiful principles, eternal truths for
- 11:51how we should. Anchor and structure our lives.
- 11:54But to give specific prescriptions for how to live
- 11:56out that life in terms of a marriage and how we set up our
- 12:00household, in terms of the economic aspects of our
- 12:04household, in terms of the details of our child care, all
- 12:06of this, how we raise our children, this is where it gets
- 12:09tricky. It gets tricky to give very
- 12:11specific prescriptions as somehow Word of God.
- 12:14This is how it needs to be. This is what God's law is for
- 12:18things that can be ultimately very much subjective and based
- 12:23on the discernment of the couple.
- 12:26And I think we can do principles and we should do principles, but
- 12:30we have to be careful with prescriptions.
- 12:32And so I would say the title of trad wife versus the title of
- 12:36girl boss misses the mark. It misses the mark and the title
- 12:40that I would like to use besides daughter of God, which is what I
- 12:44am, what you are. If you're a woman listening.
- 12:46If you're a man listening, you. Are you are?
- 12:47Called to be a son of God is the Proverbs 31 woman.
- 12:51In all of Scripture there are some key examples of womanhood
- 12:56that should inspire us and should give us a vision for
- 12:59womanhood. While not giving us every
- 13:01prescriptive detail, it can give us principles 1 of this.
- 13:06One of these examples is embodied in a human being in
- 13:08Mary, the Mother of God, and how she served God and loved God and
- 13:13was courageously obedient to God.
- 13:15And then another one is actually a written out prescription in
- 13:18Proverbs 31 about what this woman is that surpasses all
- 13:22other women. And I want to unpack some of
- 13:24Proverbs 31 and talk about why I think it is so countercultural,
- 13:28even for today, and why I think it is so essential for women to
- 13:32understand studies Proverbs 31 and be inspired by it.
- 13:37So we're going to unpack this. Before we do that though, a
- 13:39quick break to thank our amazing sponsors who make this show

- 15:25All right, so before we get into universal principles for women,
- 15:29not prescriptions of your details of your life, but
- 15:31principles for how we're called to live, I believe as daughters
- 15:34of God and as Christians, I want to just say a big thank you to
- 15:39everybody for your love and your prayers.
- 15:41I shared on social media last week some very personal news
- 15:45that my husband and I had gotten pregnant and we were expecting
- 15:50our baby. We have three living children.
- 15:53We've at the time had one in heaven.
- 15:55So this was my fifth pregnancy and I was so thrilled to
- 15:59discover I was pregnant. We were hoping to have more
- 16:02children. Of course, it's totally in God's
- 16:04hands, but it was such a joy to see that positive pregnancy test
- 16:09and just feel overwhelmed by the generosity of God and just know
- 16:11that God has a plan for this. And then the day of Live
- 16:15Action's Young Leader Summit, which we had I think 1600 young
- 16:18people in Anaheim, CA, was a beautiful event that day.
- 16:22Actually, after I gave a talk and we had just amazing.
- 16:25People there, I started experiencing miscarriage
- 16:27symptoms and I'm just sharing this because I did already share
- 16:31some of this through social media, just wrote something and
- 16:34put it out there. But it was very public because
- 16:36that happened at that event and some of the people there learned
- 16:40about it. I shared it with some friends.
- 16:42They, they asked the folks there to pray for me, which I was so
- 16:45grateful for. Honestly, I was so deeply moved
- 16:47to get so many messages from you all saying you were praying for
- 16:50me. It meant the world to me.
- 16:52Anyways, in the following days we did pass.
- 16:56Our baby we lost our little one. I know this little guy is in
- 17:00heaven. That's what life is all about in
- 17:03the end is total and perfect union with God.
- 17:06Our children are not our own. And so I know that as painful as
- 17:10miscarriage can be, it is just a reminder that these are not my
- 17:14children in that sense. These are God's children and we
- 17:17are entrusted with them for whatever time on earth we have,
- 17:20whether it's our life or their life, and that the end game is
- 17:24for our children to be in heaven with God.
- 17:26And so it was painful to lose this little guy.
- 17:29You know, it's very early on in the pregnancy, but it was also
- 17:33very peace filled because I knew that this child is in the arms
- 17:36of Jesus. And so I just wanted to thank
- 17:38everybody for praying for me, for praying for our family.
- 17:40Thank you for your love and your concern for all the moms out
- 17:44there, the women and the dads who have gone through
- 17:47miscarriage and and child loss. I'm so sorry for your pain.
- 17:51I know how difficult it can be. But I just want to remind us and
- 17:55encourage us that we have eternity in front of us, an
- 17:59eternity we will have with our children.
- 18:00And when we put our trust in Jesus Christ, we can trust that
- 18:05we will have that eternity with those little ones that we love.
- 18:09And we've lost far too soon. It feels too soon, of course.
- 18:12So anyways, wanted to share that.
- 18:14Thank you for the love and the prayers.
- 18:16And my heart just goes out to any mom and dad experiencing it.
- 18:20It's very painful to lose a child, but I'm so excited to
- 18:23know that this side, the other on the other side, right after
- 18:26this life has passed in eternity.
- 18:28We will be together once again and I'm feeling back to normal.
- 18:31I'm, you know, keep powering through.
- 18:33And I've got a lot of things in my life to pour my heart out
- 18:37into. Most importantly, my amazing
- 18:40husband, our three beautiful children this side of eternity.
- 18:43That we have in this lifestyle and there's just a lot of a lot
- 18:47of beautiful things to focus on, people to focus on.
- 18:49So, as sad as it can be, it is, I think, easy.
- 18:54To not get lost in the sadness when there's so much opportunity
- 18:57to love right in front of me and also the needs you know, I've
- 19:00got. We've got an almost 2 year old,
- 19:01we've got our four and six year old.
- 19:02There's plenty of love to pour out and I'm very grateful for
- 19:06that because I know some couples, they'll miscarriage
- 19:08their first baby, they'll not have any other children.
- 19:11Their first baby will be a miscarriage, miscarried.
- 19:13And that's a special kind of pain, I think, because.
- 19:16You're the love that you just want to pour.
- 19:18Doesn't feel like it has a place to go.
- 19:20But I do believe God can give us those opportunities for love if
- 19:23we just ask him and open our hearts up.
- 19:25You know, the person that we meet on the street, you know,
- 19:27extended family members or someone in our church community.
- 19:30People need love. And so if you feel like a sense
- 19:33of deep loss or pain, a good rule of thumb is find somebody.
- 19:37To love, find somebody to love and that actually transforms the
- 19:41experience of suffering and and of course, allow yourself to be
- 19:43loved too. So anyways, huge thank you to
- 19:45everybody for your prayers. Let's get into womanhood now.
- 19:50Girl bossing trad wifing I want to do proverb Proverbs 31
- 19:55womaning. That's what I want to do.
- 19:57Let's deep dive Proverbs 31 OK Proverbs 31 is attributed to
- 20:02King Lemuel who was sometimes as said is is to be a pseudonym for
- 20:06King Solomon. So it's this, you know, ancient
- 20:10Israelite king ultimately, and in this chapter there, King
- 20:16Lemuel, or maybe King Solomon is giving advice on righteous
- 20:19leadership and. Praising basically this ideal
- 20:22woman like instructing his future offspring sons about the
- 20:26kind of woman that he should marry.
- 20:28Now there is a. In in this, where we're going to
- 20:32read through parts of it, there's a lot of details about
- 20:35what this woman is doing and how she behaves.
- 20:38It opens with the words of King Lemuel.
- 20:40What are you doing, my son? What are you doing, son of my
- 20:43womb? What are you doing, son of my
- 20:44vows? Do not give your strength to
- 20:45women, your ways to those who destroy kings.
- 20:48It is not for kings, O Lemuel. It is not for kings to drink
- 20:50wine or for rulers to take strong drink.
- 20:52So there's all of this basically leadership advice.
- 20:54Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are
- 20:56destitute. Judge righteously.
- 20:58Then it gets into the wife. So these are leadership advice
- 21:02for how you should behave as a man, as a king, an excellent
- 21:05wife who can find she is far more precious than jewels.
- 21:09Her, the heart of her husband, trusts in her, and he will have
- 21:13no lack of game. Now when I first read this
- 21:16before I was married, I was like, I want to be her.
- 21:18I want to be this lady, I want to learn from her anyways so
- 21:21that I can become a great wife one day and a great mother one
- 21:25day. And it says she does him good
- 21:27and not harm all the days of her life.
- 21:31Then it gets into a bunch of hardcore operational work that
- 21:35this woman is involved in. Now very important note this is
- 21:39not to say that what the exact details of what proverbs. 31
- 21:42woman was doing is what you should do or what I should do
- 21:45this is very important the exact details of how.
- 21:48Mother Mary lived her life is not the exact details of how you
- 21:50and I should live her life. In fact, we don't know a lot
- 21:53about the exact details of Mother Mary's life.
- 21:54Maybe for good reason. Maybe because we'd all get
- 21:56really obsessed and think that's exactly how I'm supposed to
- 21:58live. And actually, that's not God's
- 22:00call for us individually. But there are principles in how
- 22:04she showed up, what her modus operandi was, Proverbs 31 woman,
- 22:07that I think we can all glean from and principles that we can
- 22:11all follow. So there's a few things to talk
- 22:14about big picture about Prophet 31.
- 22:16First of all, this is a countercultural woman.
- 22:19She's countercultural. And I think virtually every
- 22:22Christian woman is called to a form of counterculturalism
- 22:26because in every age there is evils of the age because of
- 22:29original sin, because of the woundedness of the human soul.
- 22:33And there is there is evil in every age that we have to
- 22:36combat. And often those evils are going
- 22:38to just be recycled. I mean, they're always recycled
- 22:40evils of past ages. There's nothing new under the
- 22:43sun. As the Bible tells us there is
- 22:45evils that get recycled. Child sacrifice, abortion,
- 22:48recycled evil, obsession with material goods, consumerism,
- 22:52recycled evil, right, sexual perversions, recycled evils,
- 22:57rejection of God's moral law, any number of those rejections,
- 23:02all recycled evils. Nothing is new under the sun.
- 23:04Sometimes certain evils pop up more than others in different
- 23:07eras. That is the that is par for the
- 23:10course. We as Christians are called to
- 23:12be countercultural. So the Proverbs 31 woman was
- 23:15countercultural for her norm, for the ancient norm, I should
- 23:18say, of women in many surrounding cultures.
- 23:20In ancient times, women were largely confined to domestic
- 23:24invisibility. So they were very much in the.
- 23:26Household. Sometimes they could be used as,
- 23:28you know, concubines or sex slaves, or conquered in wartime,
- 23:33but ultimately they were largely confined to domestic
- 23:35invisibility. They didn't have a lot of public
- 23:37agency and they had limited economic activity as well.
- 23:41But the But Solomon's proverbs Solomon's proverb 31 women, she
- 23:46engages in commerce. So in Proverbs 31, you hear
- 23:49about how the woman considers a field and buys it.
- 23:52She goes out and reviews basically real estate.
- 23:56It talks about how she manages production and trade.
- 23:58She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
- 24:00She goes and does trading. It talks about how.
- 24:04She plans in the future well-being of her family estate.
- 24:09She goes out and provides her her household in winter to make
- 24:12sure they have all the goods that they need.
- 24:14It talks about how she operates with authority and competence in
- 24:17managing her household and the household economy, not just
- 24:20dependency. So she's not a passive figure.
- 24:23She's a builder of the household and the economy in the home, and
- 24:27she's someone that is very intelligent and she's taking
- 24:30initiative in family life. It also is very striking that at
- 24:33the end of Proverbs 31 it says that she shall be praised in the
- 24:37gates. The gates are a basically a
- 24:40figure as a center of a civic life.
- 24:42This is where the pole, you know, village or city comes
- 24:46together to see what's happening in the city.
- 24:49It's sort of like the pedestal of the city to know what's
- 24:51happening. Her work is not hidden.
- 24:54It's publicly honored. It's publicly known and it's
- 24:56publicly honored today. This vision, I believe, is still
- 25:00countercultural because I think that, well, women in the past
- 25:06may have been devoid of rights and recognition.
- 25:09Modern women today, I think, are actually overexposed so.
- 25:13We. Have this opposite problem today
- 25:16where Proverbs 31 The Proverbs 31 of today should well how?
- 25:22How does she show up today? What is a Proverbs?
- 25:2431 one woman look like today, well, contrary to what our
- 25:27culture might push with materialism, with consumerism,
- 25:32and today she is a Provost. 31 woman would be disciplined in a
- 25:36culture of indulgence. So she would practice discipline
- 25:39to ensure that her household has what they need and so that
- 25:43they're also prepared to be able to give away to the poor because
- 25:45that's part of Proverbs 31. You're generous and extending
- 25:50your hands to the needy and extending your hands to all of
- 25:52the people that you. You know, work.
- 25:54Alongside, because she has all these household workers, she
- 25:57does business with other people. I think today our culture tends
- 26:00towards self protection, a rejection of generosity.
- 26:04So we can tend towards indulgence, we can tend towards
- 26:06self protection. She is economically and
- 26:09intellectually capable, but she's not consumed with status.
- 26:12I think today we're obsessed with how we appear.
- 26:15We want to look good. We want to have a level of fame
- 26:19or notoriety. We want to be popular Today.
- 26:23That was not Proverbs 31. That woman's focus, she was not
- 26:28on her Instagram trying to build a brand for the sake of her own,
- 26:33you know, popularity and, and ego.
- 26:35Now, I'm not saying that today you can't build a brand on
- 26:38social media. And that can be a Proverbs 31
- 26:40activity. I think it definitely can be.
- 26:42But it's oriented towards service of her husband, her
- 26:45children, her, her staff at her household and the poor.
- 26:50That's how it's oriented. That's what the purpose was, Not
- 26:53for self exaltation, but. For.
- 26:56Service of others and it's also oriented.
- 27:00Proverbs 31 woman is oriented towards real people, towards her
- 27:03husband, towards her children, towards her household, the
- 27:07people who worked in her household and towards her
- 27:09community and the poor in her community.
- 27:11It's not just an abstract audience.
- 27:13It's not just like whoever happens to hear this message.
- 27:16There's concrete people that she is serving.
- 27:18So I think that the Proverbs 31 message today for the girl boss
- 27:23or for the trad wife is still very important.
- 27:28For the girl. Boss, because it's saying no,
- 27:29no, no. Your work here is under God in
- 27:33service of family, in service of other people, out of love for
- 27:36them. And you could say for the trad
- 27:38wife, it's saying, yes, love your family, love your husband,
- 27:41love your kids. But you should still care about
- 27:43the poor in your community. You should still care about
- 27:46working hard to use your talents to support other people who are
- 27:51in need and to make sure that you are serving, you know, yes,
- 27:55your family first, but being a generous for the community,
- 27:59again, for every person, this is going to look different.
- 28:01So we can't prescribe one thing one-size-fits-all, but the
- 28:04principles here are generosity. It's attention to the care of
- 28:08others in your family 1st and then beyond.
- 28:11And it's using your gifts and talents, your God-given gifts
- 28:15and talents to serve other people.
- 28:18The Proverbs 31 woman is not passive.
- 28:20She's active and she's doing it in service of others.
- 28:23Another just high level thing about the Proverbs 31 woman is
- 28:27that and about this Holy Scripture and it's teaching
- 28:30about women is that women and men are equal in dignity will
- 28:35distinct in form. So our Christian tradition is
- 28:39very countercultural in this way.
- 28:41It's so countercultural. In Paul's letter to the
- 28:44Galatians, St. Paul, he writes there is neither
- 28:46Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free.
- 28:51There is neither male nor female.
- 28:53You are all one in Jesus Christ. He's saying that in Jesus Christ
- 28:57you are equal, equal in dignity. The Imago day, how God designed
- 29:02us is equal in dignity in in an image of him.
- 29:06A man and a woman is equally in the image of God and in Jesus
- 29:10Christ. There's no social status in
- 29:12class in Jesus Christ. There's no ethnic divides in
- 29:16Jesus Christ. There's no divides of the sex,
- 29:19the reproductive ability. You are all one in Jesus.
- 29:22Christ, this is a radically subversive idea even for today.
- 29:27Because today I think there is a lot of talk about the benefits
- 29:31of diversity. There's a lot of talk about
- 29:33equality. But today we go the opposite
- 29:36direction of totally destroying any differences because we say
- 29:40differences are somehow bad, but there can't be any differences.
- 29:43No, You're equal in dignity, but you are different.
- 29:46Men and women are not interchangeable.
- 29:50They're not. This is where I think Sheryl
- 29:52Sandberg can get some things wrong.
- 29:54This is where the girl boss can, you know, boss too close to the
- 29:56sun and you start to melt because you are not the same as
- 29:59a man. And that's a good thing.
- 30:02That doesn't mean you can't use your talents.
- 30:04You can't work hard, you can't have great careers and and make
- 30:07a huge impact on society, but you are designed as a woman.
- 30:10And if you're married, you should be open to life.
- 30:12And if you're open to life, you're very well likely going to
- 30:15become a mother. And becoming a mother will
- 30:17change how you interact with the world.
- 30:20It will change how you interact with work.
- 30:22And those changes are not bad. Those are not shackles that we
- 30:26have to reject. Oh, I hate this that I have, you
- 30:28know, and now I can't compete the same as a man in the
- 30:31workplace because now I have this baby.
- 30:32No, that's a blessing. That baby is a blessing.
- 30:35And that is where the trad wife, I think aesthetic is.
- 30:38So, you know, tempting for a lot of women.
- 30:41It's so attractive because we are wired for that.
- 30:44We are wired to want to make nutritious food for our
- 30:46children. We are wired.
- 30:48Maybe we don't like the cooking process, but we like the
- 30:50nurturing. We want to nurture that baby and
- 30:51make sure they're healthy. We are wired to be the the
- 30:55mother that our children are, that our children need.
- 30:58That is innate to us. And we can fight that wiring.
- 31:01We can have wounded that hurts that woundedness that hurts that
- 31:04wiring, but that is how we are wired.
- 31:07And so the, this idea that we're not interchangeable as men and
- 31:10women comes down to the sexual difference.
- 31:12Our reproductive difference as men and women is our difference.
- 31:15That is the, that is the whole difference.
- 31:17So it really comes down to only I can be a mother, only I can
- 31:21carry that child and nurture that child.
- 31:22And only a man can then provide, I think a special amount of
- 31:26provision and protection that in that moment, the woman is not
- 31:29able to provide because she's so busy nurturing.
- 31:31And so we can build all kinds of, in our discernment, in our
- 31:35wisdom, we can build all sorts of systems for our household to
- 31:37protect the mother's responsibility and that
- 31:40beautiful role of mothering and to ensure the father can step
- 31:45strongly into that role of fathering.
- 31:47And that often is going to look like protection and provision
- 31:49for the man. And that's going to look like
- 31:51maybe the woman not always being so out front and, you know,
- 31:54being in the corporate office 10 hours a day because she is
- 31:56giving her child what that child needs, which is.
- 31:59Her. Primarily, and so this is where
- 32:01we can draw a principle as a woman, if you are married,
- 32:05here's your order. God first service to God and his
- 32:10moral law Service to Jesus Christ and loving him and
- 32:14seeking his will husband next and your husband is God's gift
- 32:18now to you for to how you can even love God.
- 32:21It's so cool that with my husband.
- 32:22I look at my husband Isaac and I think what a gift that the way I
- 32:25love Jesus is loving my husband like that is how I get to love
- 32:29God is through my husband and you honor him and you love him
- 32:32and you respect him. And then if you're blessed with
- 32:35children, children next, raising those children up in in God's
- 32:41plan, giving them the formation that they need, the nurture,
- 32:44showering them with love, right? That is what they need.
- 32:47And then yes. Using your gifts and talents to
- 32:49do that work, and then to use your gifts and talents to get
- 32:52involved in economic activity, building career, doing ministry,
- 32:56serving other people. There's a ton of other stuff you
- 32:58can do around and inside that. And in my life that looks like
- 33:02Live Action, I get to lead this incredible organization that is
- 33:05just getting started in many ways to end abortion and build a
- 33:08culture of life. It's this show.
- 33:10It's GTB Media and this amazing new platform we're building
- 33:13there to serve mothers and families.
- 33:15It is. Yeah.
- 33:16Managing my household and the people who helped make my work
- 33:18possible. Managing the amazing teams that
- 33:21exist at GTB and at Live Action, and empowering other people to
- 33:25do a lot of the work. Because what I love that
- 33:28Proverbs 31 woman does is that she involves other people in her
- 33:31work. She has other teams and Staffs,
- 33:34staff that she works with to help her basically serve her
- 33:38family and serve the community. So I think it's dangerous for us
- 33:42to go either extreme, either the extreme of overstating the
- 33:46difference between men and women to try to shrink women into
- 33:49these narrow roles and bury their talents, or to also erase
- 33:54the difference between men and women and pretend like women
- 33:57don't have a special role in mothering and being there for
- 34:00their children. That leads us to abandon our
- 34:03real responsibilities to our family.
- 34:05The biblical vision of the Proverbs 31 women and the
- 34:08biblical vision of Saint Paul and what we learned about the
- 34:11life of Mary and what we. Learned from Holy Scripture and
- 34:13the teachings of the Church. The biblical vision avoids both
- 34:16extremes, and that's why it's so great.
- 34:19It's so amazing to be a Christian, especially a
- 34:22Catholic, you know, a Catholic Christian, because we are given
- 34:25so many beautiful principles by which we can anchor and guide
- 34:29our life. And so at the end of the day,
- 34:31the Proverbs 31 woman is capable.
- 34:34She is. A.
- 34:35Strong woman. She is responsible, she is wise
- 34:40and she is rooted in obligation. First obligation to her husband.
- 34:44The heart of her husband trusts in her and he will have no lack
- 34:47of gain. She does him good and not harm.
- 34:50All the days of her life she is responsible to her household.
- 34:56She provides for them. She makes the household stable.
- 35:00She has foresight for the needs of the home.
- 35:03She is responsible to the poor. It says she opens her hands to
- 35:07the needy and she is responsible to the future she plans.
- 35:11It says that she laughs at the days to come.
- 35:14This is not some girl bossing expressive individualism or self
- 35:18optimization or actualization. This is purposeful, outward
- 35:23facing competence. She is competent.
- 35:26And she is, most importantly, virtuous.
- 35:29And I think it's such a freeing view of womanhood.
- 35:32I'm going to read a few more lines here that are just so
- 35:34beautiful. She's not afraid of snow for her
- 35:37household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
- 35:41She makes bed coverings for herself.
- 35:42Her clothing is fine, lemon and purple.
- 35:45Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the
- 35:48elders of the land. She makes linen garments and
- 35:51sells them. She delivers sashes to the
- 35:52merchant. Strength and dignity are her
- 35:55clothing. And she laughs at the days to
- 35:57come. She opens her mouth with wisdom,
- 36:00and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
- 36:03Her tongue. She looks well to the ways of
- 36:05her household. And she doesn't eat the bread of
- 36:07idleness, her children. Rise up and call her blessed her
- 36:11husband also, and he praises her.
- 36:13Many women have done excellently, but you surpass
- 36:16them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is
- 36:18vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
- 36:21Give her the fruit of her hands. Let her works be praised in the
- 36:23gates. So no, no trad wife, no girl
- 36:27boss, let's go Proverbs 31, ladies, and let's discover what
- 36:31God is calling us to. And let's live passionately,
- 36:35develop our virtue and love, love with our whole hearts.
- 36:39That is our path. And I'm here to help as best I
- 36:43can with this little podcast. So thank you for listening in.
- 36:45All right, let's go to our next topic here really quick.
- 36:48This one again, this is the extremes of the culture, guys.
- 36:52Women are throwing self celebrations at age 40 who are
- 36:55unmarried and motherless. Or childless I should say.
- 36:59Maybe they were motherless too. Actually, this is a New York
- 37:01Times article, guys. Let's pull this up.
- 37:03A wedding weekend, no spouse required.
- 37:06It profiles an affluent single woman who is in her 40s throwing
- 37:09herself a big party that looks like a wedding.
- 37:11She wears A gown that looks like a white gown.
- 37:13She gives speeches. There's photo montages and
- 37:15themed events. This woman named Brittany Allen
- 37:19had this at this English estate celebration.
- 37:22It had 4 million views online, highlighting her wish for the
- 37:25joy she waited for. And obviously, there's a ton of
- 37:28reactions to this. I actually want to pull up a
- 37:30couple because they were interesting.
- 37:32This is from Liz Wolf, who is a writer.
- 37:36And over at Reason magazine, let's pull this up, Harris, if
- 37:40we can. She quotes from the article.
- 37:43And she says so much of our adult lives are spent marking
- 37:47the traditional milestones you hear about your whole life,
- 37:50engagements, marriages, babies, first home.
- 37:52So this is about this woman who's throwing her herself, you
- 37:54know, actualization party at 40? Miss Bart, 43, said for women
- 37:58who aren't partnered, there's often no external occasion
- 38:00prompting this kind of celebration, so creating one
- 38:03yourself is a genuine declaration of self worth.
- 38:05It's basically saying like I matter, I'm important.
- 38:07Even though I'm not married, I don't have the baby, I'm not
- 38:09engaged, I don't I don't own a home, I'm still important.
- 38:12Now I'm. Going to read.
- 38:13What Liz has to say. But first I have to say yes,
- 38:15you're still important. You're made in the image of God.
- 38:17You have more value than the, than anything you can even
- 38:20imagine in your mind. Like you are so precious.
- 38:24Where's your value though? Are you putting your value in
- 38:27this party and in like creating this kind of faux wedding
- 38:31milestone? Or is in your value your
- 38:33identity as a daughter of God? Liz Wolf weighs in and she says
- 38:37this totally misunderstands why we celebrate milestones.
- 38:40Having a child or getting married isn't in any way a
- 38:42declaration of self worth, nor is that the thing that really
- 38:45needs declaring. Weddings and baby showers and
- 38:47baptisms are celebrations of the formation of the most essential
- 38:50building block of society, the family.
- 38:52And there is a somber element, a seriousness to those things.
- 38:56Our community is called together to recognize that they must see
- 38:59us through the good times and the hard times.
- 39:01That's part of why people gravitate towards churches to
- 39:04mark milestones. Life isn't just a series of
- 39:06aesthetic pursuits. Please believe there is so much
- 39:08more than that. Yes, completely agree with Liz
- 39:11here. You are a daughter of God.
- 39:13This woman throwing in this party for herself is a daughter
- 39:16of God. But again, it's like our
- 39:17obsession with experience and consumerism where we're trying
- 39:20to cling to identities, right? Or cling to a sense of meaning
- 39:24when meaning is ultimately found in your relationship to God and
- 39:27who he created you to be and other people and and you can
- 39:30have incredible meaning in your life.
- 39:32You can be have a life full of love and purpose and not be
- 39:36married. It is possible.
- 39:38Now, most people are called to marriage and I would encourage
- 39:40them. Make that a huge priority in
- 39:42your life. Prepare for that.
- 39:44Be open to love. You know, date.
- 39:46We do a lot of dating talks on this show, but some people may
- 39:49not marry in this life or they might be called to maybe a
- 39:52religious vocation. You are still called to love, to
- 39:55be loved. You are still a daughter or son
- 39:56of God. You still have a purpose to use
- 39:59your talents to serve the world. All of that still stands.
- 40:03Here's another comment. Let's pull this up, the last one
- 40:05on the list from Mary Vinny. This is just kind of an
- 40:08interesting comment from the Internet that we that I saw
- 40:12going to be controversial. And say coming up with excuses
- 40:15to throw big events for your friends and family is good.
- 40:17Actually, I have 26 cousins and weddings used to be our way of
- 40:20organizing family. Most of us are partnered now, so
- 40:22we organize around alternatives. This is seeing the good.
- 40:26Part of what I want to do in this show, all of you, which I
- 40:28know you see me attempting to do, is, yeah, call out the evil
- 40:31and the bad in the world. But.
- 40:33Not the good, the good, the true, the beautiful.
- 40:35There's something good here. She wants to celebrate her life.
- 40:37She wants to bring her friends together.
- 40:39She wants to save my life still as meaning and purpose, even if
- 40:41I'm not married and don't have kids.
- 40:42That is all true. Now, I think it's a little over
- 40:44the top to like wear a wet as a faux wedding dress.
- 40:47I don't think that's necessary. I think that's again, you know,
- 40:50pointing towards trying to replace marriage somehow.
- 40:52You're not going to replace marriage with anything.
- 40:54You can't. But I do think you can throw a
- 40:57celebration of your life and your friends lives and and
- 41:00create a milestone event, but it shouldn't be because you're
- 41:04running away from marriage or kids, right?
- 41:07That that's where we get into problems like the girl bossing,
- 41:10when the girl bossing becomes the fixation and you're running
- 41:13away from love, you're running away from commitment, you're
- 41:17running away from marriage and kids or you get married and
- 41:18you're like, I don't want to have kids, I don't want to do
- 41:20kids. I'm married.
- 41:22That's enough. It'll be open to life.
- 41:24The point of marriage is to bring life into the world.
- 41:26If you can't bring it into the world biologically, then bring
- 41:29it into it spiritually. So I think that it is tacky and
- 41:35wrong to, you know, LARP as a bride and throwing your own
- 41:38party. Like you don't need to do that,
- 41:41but you can still throw a party to celebrate your life and to
- 41:44create a moment of meaning with your friends.
- 41:46So again, there's good in there. There's a little bit of edge in
- 41:48there, but at the end of the day, it's because we are
- 41:51starving for meaning and relationship.
- 41:53We all are. And there's God's order that we
- 41:56can enter into and embrace. And for those of us who may not
- 42:01be called to marriage or were not married yet, you're still
- 42:04living a beautiful life of love and meaning.
- 42:07You are a daughter or son of God, and He has a plan for you
- 42:10to use your talents to serve Him and other people.
- 42:13Bottom line, OK, I promised you guys I would get into the Iran
- 42:16war. We're going to do that next
- 42:18because I, I care a lot about this.
- 42:19I know we don't do a ton of public policy or foreign
- 42:23affairs, I should say public policy on this show, but we do
- 42:26some of it because it, it matters a lot to me when it
- 42:28intersects with human dignity. So first of all, I want to say
- 42:31it's great news that we are in a ceasefire with Iran.
- 42:33I did talk about the Iran war on the show before.
- 42:36I have mixed feelings about the Iran war.
- 42:37I think most people do. Why are we at war with Iran?
- 42:41Yeah, they they have been threatening death to America for
- 42:43decades. There's a number that they've
- 42:45killed 1000 Americans over the decades.
- 42:48So they do acts of war occasionally against us.
- 42:50You could say. Trump, of course, campaigned on
- 42:52no more wars. Let's not go to war.
- 42:55Last summer, I believe he did a a targeted attack and said he
- 42:58took out nuclear capabilities of Iran.
- 43:00Now they're saying basically they're back.
- 43:01We need to take them out again. You might have all seen this.
- 43:04I'm sure you did. There was a tweet put out by
- 43:06President Trump just I think yesterday morning or the day
- 43:09before where he basically was saying that we need to, this
- 43:15was, excuse me, this was on Easter morning.
- 43:17So this was three days ago where he was saying that he was going
- 43:21to ultimately potentially destroy the civilization of
- 43:24Iran. Let me just read this really
- 43:25quick, he said. Let's pull up the quote.
- 43:30Well there were a few sorry tweets that went out.
- 43:32Tuesday will be power plant day and bridge day all wrapped up in
- 43:34one in Iran. There'll be nothing like it.
- 43:36Open the F and straight you, you crazy bastards or you'll be
- 43:38living in hell. Just watch.
- 43:39Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allah.
- 43:41OK, so there's a lot of tweets, people said.
- 43:43Were like this looks unhinged. You know, obviously Trump's
- 43:46typical critics were very critical of that and
- 43:48understandably so because it did sound like what is going on?
- 43:51Are we about to like blow people up?
- 43:53This was the one. This was the tweet though that.
- 43:56I commented on a whole civilization will die tonight.
- 43:59This is from President Trump, never to be brought back again.
- 44:02I don't want that to happen. And this was yesterday, so this
- 44:05was yesterday's tweet. I don't want that to happen, but
- 44:08it probably will. However, now that we have
- 44:10completed total regime change, we're different.
- 44:12Smarter and less radical minds prevail.
- 44:13Some maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can
- 44:16happen. Who knows?
- 44:17We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in
- 44:20the long and complex history of the world. 47 years of
- 44:23extortion, corruption and death will finally end.
- 44:25God bless the great people of Iran.
- 44:28Now, there's absolutely a sense of mixed message in here, but
- 44:31that opening phrase, a whole civilization will die tonight
- 44:35was absolutely a threat. And afterwards, when Iran
- 44:40basically semi caved and they look like they're going to open
- 44:42the Strait of Hormuz and allow, you know, commerce and and oil
- 44:46trade to continue to happen. And this seemed to be a
- 44:49consequence of the threats from Trump.
- 44:51People said, well, it's a victory.
- 44:52Trump did a good job. Thumbs up.
- 44:54The problem is Americans, including of course our American
- 44:58political leaders, should never threaten civilians ever.
- 45:02In just war theory. We've talked about this on the
- 45:04show multiple times. In just war theory, it is never
- 45:07acceptable to intentionally target or threaten civilian
- 45:10populations or infrastructure now.
- 45:13You can make a case for attacking civilian
- 45:16infrastructure if it is also being directly used for warfare,
- 45:20right? So first of all, adjust war.
- 45:22It has to be a good reason to go to war.
- 45:23There needs to be acts of aggression made against you, and
- 45:26your response has to be proportionate to those acts of
- 45:29aggression. So there's still the outstanding
- 45:30question, is this war in Iran just right?
- 45:33I don't know that there's a clear yes answer to that.
- 45:35I think there can be a compelling case for no.
- 45:37I can also understand the case for yes, So I'm not taking a
- 45:40strong stand on that. These are very tricky things to
- 45:42discern, especially if there's intelligence that we do not
- 45:44have. But I can totally understand,
- 45:47people are like, no, do not do this war.
- 45:49I can understand where they're coming from.
- 45:51But this idea that the president of the United States is
- 45:55effectively threatening a whole civilization on X is a problem.
- 45:59And I spoke up against that. I said what the?
- 46:01I said it is gravely wrong to threaten to destroy a whole
- 46:04civilization. This is unjust and it flies in
- 46:06the face of our best American ideals.
- 46:08It's not America first either. And I got a ton of Flack from
- 46:12some folks, maybe some folks listening right now.
- 46:13I I appreciate your opinions, people saying that well, Trump
- 46:17was not talking about actually the people of Iran.
- 46:20He was talking. About the regime, and maybe
- 46:23that's what was in Trump's heart, but he should have said
- 46:25that because he didn't. He said the civilization of
- 46:28Iran, which typically a civilization means the all of
- 46:32civil society. It means the people, it means
- 46:34their infrastructure, it means their technology, it means their
- 46:36culture, it means all of it. That's what a civilization
- 46:39means. If you look up the definition of
- 46:41civilization, that's what you're going to, you're going to look
- 46:43at civilization is a stage of human, social and cultural
- 46:46development and the organization that is considered most
- 46:49advanced. It's not the government or the
- 46:51regime, so. And here's the thing, we are in
- 46:55a time of unprecedented modern capabilities for warfare, not
- 46:59just with nuclear weaponry, but with artificial intelligence,
- 47:02drones, Everything that we can do, there's a ton of like
- 47:05biochemical warfare we can do. And so safeguarding human
- 47:09dignity, we're human beings are never used as a means to an end.
- 47:12We're innocent human beings. Civilians are never targeted or,
- 47:16or treated callously is of the utmost importance.
- 47:20And it can be so easy to not do that in Modern Warfare.
- 47:23And so, well, I appreciate it and I'm grateful that it looks
- 47:26like we're in a peace peace deal, at least a temporary one
- 47:30with Iran. We can't even achieve peace
- 47:32through threatening civilians. That is not an acceptable way to
- 47:35achieve peace. And you know, somebody might
- 47:37listening maybe like Lyle, you're you're playing armchair
- 47:39quarterback here. What do you know?
- 47:40You don't know anything. I know God's law when it comes
- 47:45to the treatment of human beings and human dignity.
- 47:50And I believe that the just war theory is true.
- 47:54It is our it is part of our faith and it.
- 47:56Includes the that you do not threaten civilians, you do not
- 47:59threaten innocent people, even if you can maybe achieve
- 48:03something by it. And that that's, that's my
- 48:06bottom line here, guys. So you know, President Trump, I,
- 48:08I will pray for him. We're going to pray for the
- 48:10administration. We need to respect our leaders
- 48:12and pray for them. But if, if we see something that
- 48:15looks objectively wrong, you should be unafraid to speak out
- 48:18against it. And what I do not like, because
- 48:20I've seen this and I've been, I've been, I've been on the
- 48:23brunt of this. I've experienced this is this
- 48:26groupthink that says you are not allowed to ever speak up against
- 48:31the actions of a public official because if you do, then you're
- 48:35their political opponent. And now, like, you want the
- 48:37Democrats to win or you want Kamala Harris to be president.
- 48:39I do not buy that. It's not a binary in terms of
- 48:43the truth about a person's actions where you can't, you
- 48:47can't criticize them because they're in office and somehow
- 48:50that's going to hurt their office.
- 48:51You need to be able to call wrong, wrong and right right in
- 48:54and out of season. And I'm going to keep doing
- 48:57that. And I know it's going to ruffle
- 48:58feathers, and I know that people are going to call me all kinds
- 49:01of names. I'm going to continue to do that
- 49:02because I believe that it's that it's right to do.
- 49:04And I pray for peace in the Middle East.
- 49:06I pray for peace in Gaza. I pray for peace in Israel.
- 49:09I pray for peace in Iran. I pray for peace in Ukraine.
- 49:12We need to pray for peace and it's never acceptable.
- 49:15To target civilians in wartime, it isn't.
- 49:18Some, some civilians might become a part of collateral
- 49:21damage in wartime, but, and that's horrific and that's the
- 49:24price of war. And we should.
- 49:25That's one of the reasons we should hate war.
- 49:27And we should always. Seek peace first.
- 49:29But if that happens, it has to be an accident, completely an
- 49:33accident. And not a the focus of the
- 49:35targeting of the, of the, you know, military force, because if
- 49:39the military force is ever targeting civilians for
- 49:41destruction or threatening them, that is a war crime and it's
- 49:44always wrong. All right, I'm going to take a
- 49:47look now at comments here and see what you all have to say.
- 49:52Thank everybody for tuning in. So first of all, here's a
- 49:57comment. Lila, I'm so sorry for your
- 49:59loss. I saw that you miscarried
- 50:00recently. Thank you so much.
- 50:02I really appreciate it. And again, I so appreciate the
- 50:05prayers. I I really have felt your
- 50:07prayers and they mean so much to me.
- 50:12Here's some more comments. Too bad the cost of living
- 50:15doesn't really make this an option for lower middle class.
- 50:18Almost like it's on purpose. We're talking about women
- 50:21working and not having to. Work and yes, I think.
- 50:24In most families they have, they feel and, and they, you know,
- 50:27there's, there's compelling reasons for there to be both
- 50:30parents working in terms of, you know, having jobs and that is
- 50:34the way our economy is. Structured right now,
- 50:35unfortunately it's very hard to work on A1, have a household
- 50:40function with one income. It is possible.
- 50:42I think sometimes we because of our materialistic standards, we
- 50:45think it is impossible. I think it is possible, but I
- 50:48think women can contribute and shouldn't contribute
- 50:51economically to the household when it makes sense for the
- 50:53family. A few other comments here.
- 50:56I think what's more important is that women want to be living
- 50:59like an actual Christian. I think the trad wife thing is
- 51:02just a current fad where people want to have the appearance as
- 51:05trad. I think there's a lot of truth
- 51:07to that and I don't blame people for liking the trad wife
- 51:11aesthetic. I like it.
- 51:12I like wearing a beautiful dress and cooking in my kitchen for my
- 51:16my kids and husband. I like doing that, and I'm not
- 51:20going to apologize for that. And yeah.
- 51:21Do I film myself doing that? I don't think I filmed myself
- 51:23doing that before. I did take a picture of the
- 51:25prime rib that I made for Easter Sunday.
- 51:28So I might. I might.
- 51:29And if you guys want, I'll film myself cooking.
- 51:31I mean, I don't know if any of you want that.
- 51:32My actually, husband and I were joking about doing a cooking
- 51:35show just for fun. But anyways, yeah, I as a woman,
- 51:38I love, I love, you know, hospitality.
- 51:42Men can like hospitality too, though I don't want to make it
- 51:44sound like men can't like it. But yeah, I do think the trad
- 51:47wife thing is often an aesthetic.
- 51:49And I don't think it's a. Bad one, necessarily.
- 51:52I just think when it's taking to an extreme and it's like
- 51:55morality is attached to it. Like you have to wear a dress
- 51:58and cook in your kitchen to be like a Christian woman.
- 52:00I think that's where you get really into dangerous territory,
- 52:04I tell. Especially like Catholic girls
- 52:06and Catholic young people. Don't be more Catholic than the
- 52:09Catholic Church. Like the Catholic Church teaches
- 52:11something, 1000% listen to the Catholic Church.
- 52:14If Holy Scripture teaches something 1000% listen to the
- 52:17words of Jesus Christ. If they're not teaching it to
- 52:20you, then don't go around acting like it's gospel.
- 52:23You're making an idol of something.
- 52:24You can be a preference you have.
- 52:25That's fine if that's your preference.
- 52:28If you do not want to work, you want to be a stay at home mom to
- 52:30the point where you don't have any outside obligations, that
- 52:33can be a preference. That could be very beautiful,
- 52:34could work for your family, but don't make it sound like it's
- 52:36gospel for everybody else. That's where we fall into a pit.
- 52:40A trap, I believe. All right, here's another
- 52:43comment. But are we ever going to fight
- 52:45to get women back in the home as a majority?
- 52:48Less consumerism, more mothering.
- 52:51I think less consumerism is always a good idea, and more
- 52:55mothering is always a good idea. I mean, as a mother, you should
- 52:59be a 100% mother. It's not like you turn off
- 53:02mothering when you go to the grocery store.
- 53:04You turn off mothering when I'm podcasting right now and now I'm
- 53:07not a mother as a podcaster, no, I'm still a mother.
- 53:09I, I, my children are entrusted to someone else right now, but
- 53:12I'm still 100% their mother. I'm not going to.
- 53:14Ever turn that off? I will never turn that off.
- 53:16I will always be their mother in this life, right?
- 53:18But I think in terms of what does it mean, you know, this
- 53:22question of should we fight to get women back in the home as a
- 53:24majority, I do think that. Going to offices for long
- 53:28periods of time is typically not good, especially for women of
- 53:32young children. I think it can be more doable
- 53:34for for fathers. I think it's.
- 53:36Particularly damaging if a mother has to be away from her
- 53:39children day after day. For. 8910 hours a day, I don't
- 53:43think that's ideal and I think there's social data to prove
- 53:45that. So I think I can say that with
- 53:47confidence. Now, what that looks like for a
- 53:50woman who's listening right now and maybe has a full time job
- 53:53and she's navigating how to be the best mother she can be.
- 53:56I'm not going to give you a specific specific prescription.
- 53:58I can encourage you towards flexible work.
- 54:01Work from homework. Part time work, I think those
- 54:04are all great approaches in today's economy and the way that
- 54:08our technology has structured a lot of our jobs because we're
- 54:11not like working from home like, you know, dealing with the the
- 54:14cow and, you know, picking vegetables and being in our
- 54:17blacksmith shop or whatever, right?
- 54:19That that's not like the typical, you know, set up of our
- 54:21economy anymore. We order our food or we get it
- 54:23from the grocery store. We go to our computer to work.
- 54:27I would just say flexible work, part time work, work from
- 54:30homework. Those are the kinds of careers
- 54:33that I would encourage women to pursue who want to be mothers
- 54:38because that is a great way to make sure that you can organize
- 54:43your life to put your kids first.
- 54:45All right, one more question here, if they're trad or
- 54:49comment. If they're trad Catholics I can
- 54:51understand. But for some, maybe because it's
- 54:53difficult to find employment nowadays.
- 54:56And yeah, I mean, I think I actually don't know if I
- 55:00understand this. This comment here, Harris helped
- 55:02me out. Do you understand this?
- 55:03If they're trad Catholics, I can understand.
- 55:05But for some, maybe because it's difficult to find employment
- 55:08nowadays. I mean, I think that if you're
- 55:14working from home because you can't find, if you're staying
- 55:17with your family because you can't find a job.
- 55:19Then you make your family your job.
- 55:21I mean, if you, if you can make it work and you're not feeling
- 55:24called to work outside the home, you're not feeling called to
- 55:27even have any kind of job. Instead, you're feeling called
- 55:29to just invest heavily in your household and your community.
- 55:32100% do it. Treat that like.
- 55:34Work. That is your work.
- 55:36That's the thing at the end of the day, it's all work guys.
- 55:39God worked for seven days and created the universe and then he
- 55:42rested on the 7th day. He worked for six days, rested
- 55:44on the 7th day and said what? What a great.
- 55:45Creation I've made. We are made in his image.
- 55:47We're called to work. Toil, which is a result of the
- 55:50curse right after Adam and Eve sinned against God, They were
- 55:54They left the garden and and were ejected from the Garden of
- 55:56Eden. Toil was one of the curses.
- 55:58You're going to have sweat on your brow.
- 55:59It's going to be. Hard to work, but work,
- 56:01generally speaking, and creation, creativity, that's a
- 56:04good part of being human. It's an essential part of being
- 56:06human. We should celebrate it.
- 56:09The toil gets in there where it's like hard.
- 56:11It separates us from the people we love or the things that we
- 56:13truly love. There's, there's toil associated
- 56:15with it. That's where we build virtue,
- 56:17right? And we offer those sacrifices to
- 56:19God, and we we offer it all up to God.
- 56:22All right, everybody, thank you for listening.
- 56:24It's always great to see you all.
- 56:26We are doing these Wednesday lives.
- 56:28I'm actually going to be out of town next Wednesday because I
- 56:32will be debating up at Berkeley and then at Stanford University.
- 56:37So please keep me in your prayers while I'm doing those
- 56:40debates. You can also, for those who are
- 56:43local, can attend those events. I think there's still tickets
- 56:45that are open over at Live Action.
- 56:47Please pray for me, but we will be back.
- 56:49Online the following Wednesday. Thank you all so much and have a
- 56:52great rest of your day.
