- 0:25Speaker 1: from my man, Rashan McDonald. Money Making Conversations Here we come.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversations Masterclass. I'm your host, ras
- 0:33Speaker 1: Sean McDonald. I recognized that we all have different definitions
- 0:36Speaker 1: of success. For you, it may be the size of
- 0:39Speaker 1: your paycheck. Mine is inspiring people to accomplish their goals
- 0:42Speaker 1: and live their very best life. It is time to
- 0:45Speaker 1: stop reading other people's success stories and start writing your own.
- 0:48Speaker 1: People always talk about their purpose or gifts. If you
- 0:51Speaker 1: have a gift, lead with your gifts and don't let
- 0:53Speaker 1: your friends, family, or co workers stop you from planning
- 0:56Speaker 1: or living your dreams. My guests is a civil rights activist,
- 1:00Speaker 1: says it has always prevailed against the odds. Rising from
- 1:03Speaker 1: g E. D the PhD. He's a community organizer. Dr
- 1:06Speaker 1: Jamal Harrison Bryant. He combines sound biblical teaching, business acumen,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and political insight to propel the Body of Christ to
- 1:15Speaker 1: action and graded levels of faith. He's the senior pastor
- 1:18Speaker 1: of New Birth Missionary Baptis Church. A graduate of Morehouse
- 1:21Speaker 1: College and of Duke University, his leadership efforts have always
- 1:25Speaker 1: begun to strengthen the multigeneration of bond among members, expand
- 1:29Speaker 1: community outreach, cultivate families, and expand the church's cultural significance.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Please work on the Money Making Conversations master class for
- 1:37Speaker 1: the very first time and hopefully not the last. Dr
- 1:40Speaker 1: Jamal Harrison Bryan, how are you doing, sir? Doing wonderfully well? Brother,
- 1:44Speaker 1: good to hear your voice and to see your face
- 1:46Speaker 1: well great, the same thing there, you know, when I
- 1:48Speaker 1: see your face board and you see my that's for sure.
- 1:49Speaker 1: On TV, I'd say, uh, you know it. There was
- 1:52Speaker 1: a time when they when they when they when your
- 1:54Speaker 1: church reopened and members were allowed back into the church.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I saw you on every channel and that was in
- 2:00Speaker 1: this and there was a blessing because of the fact
- 2:02Speaker 1: that you know the journey it started in talk about
- 2:07Speaker 1: and some of the trials and you have to say
- 2:10Speaker 1: that you went through to overcome and question your faith people.
- 2:13Speaker 1: You have to deal with the health. The black community
- 2:15Speaker 1: was affected the worst or people a brown skin tone.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So talk about that now and the reopening the church.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It was COVID was the best thing I think that
- 2:28Speaker 1: ever happened to the church because it made us move
- 2:31Speaker 1: outside of the four walls. Have you studied the life
- 2:34Speaker 1: of Jesus, of what he did was outside of the church,
- 2:39Speaker 1: but the contemporary model nine percent of what churches do
- 2:43Speaker 1: is inside. Uh. And so we had to reexamine what
- 2:47Speaker 1: does church means the four walls? Is it a steeples,
- 2:51Speaker 1: the state glass windows, is it a ham in organ
- 2:54Speaker 1: or is its service to the community. And so as
- 2:57Speaker 1: a consequence, the church never closed the building dead. And
- 3:02Speaker 1: so since today, Rashan, you ought to know that we
- 3:07Speaker 1: fed over eight hundred thousand people confronting food insecurity. UH,
- 3:13Speaker 1: in the midst of the pandemic. We were able to
- 3:17Speaker 1: give disaster relief to people in Mississippi, Louisiana and to
- 3:22Speaker 1: Texas in the midst of the pandemic. Since two thousand
- 3:28Speaker 1: and twenty, over three thousand people joined our church online,
- 3:33Speaker 1: never getting the right hand of fellowship. What's interesting to
- 3:37Speaker 1: know is that culture changes every four years, but Black
- 3:42Speaker 1: church culture changes every twenty. So the average church is
- 3:47Speaker 1: fifteen years behind schedule. So a lot of churches didn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: make it. Why because they were not technologically savvy. They
- 3:56Speaker 1: didn't know how to do online giving, and they didn't
- 3:59Speaker 1: know how to have a hybrid approach of being high
- 4:02Speaker 1: tech and high touch. We mastered all of those to
- 4:05Speaker 1: the grace of God and was able to excel. When
- 4:08Speaker 1: that's it's really good that you're saying that, because as
- 4:11Speaker 1: an African American community, we always you know, we got
- 4:14Speaker 1: we got the cell phone? Or do we understand the technology?
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know, as a person who has been in radio
- 4:19Speaker 1: and TV and you know all the big giants or
- 4:22Speaker 1: whether it's uh, Apple, Google, they never look at the
- 4:26Speaker 1: African American community for technical forward thoughts, for for academic
- 4:31Speaker 1: excellence or for employment. What role is the church playing
- 4:35Speaker 1: in that? As for under your leadership, I'm not trying
- 4:37Speaker 1: to expect you to speak for every church, but I
- 4:40Speaker 1: know your leadership. What role are you planning to advance
- 4:42Speaker 1: the narrative of African Americans with technology. So we started
- 4:46Speaker 1: last summer doing something a little bit cutting edge. We
- 4:50Speaker 1: canceled vacation babble school and started doing code in class. Uh,
- 4:55Speaker 1: so that our young people will be able to have
- 4:58Speaker 1: us some competitive foot in a global market and trade,
- 5:02Speaker 1: because you very well know most about inner city public
- 5:04Speaker 1: schools don't offer such And I think that part of
- 5:08Speaker 1: the responsibility of the church is to not just advanced
- 5:12Speaker 1: consumer reism, but to make sure that we are producers
- 5:15Speaker 1: as well, which is really really important now. You know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: when they set this question over to me, and I
- 5:20Speaker 1: want to ask you said when you arrived at new Birth,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you walked into a massive death if something I didn't
- 5:25Speaker 1: knowing it about. You know, because we look at the church.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You know, you know people you have, you have you
- 5:31Speaker 1: people who join the church, they donate and then then
- 5:33Speaker 1: you but you walk into a debt situation. How did
- 5:36Speaker 1: you manage to reduce the debt so quickly? Because was
- 5:39Speaker 1: it through corporate donations, with it through the members of
- 5:43Speaker 1: the church? And what plan did you put in place
- 5:45Speaker 1: so it won't happen again? We have to understand. I
- 5:49Speaker 1: came a little after two and a half years after
- 5:53Speaker 1: Bishop wrong, Yes, sir uh. And so they went through
- 5:57Speaker 1: a deep membership in a ten dense in participation and
- 6:02Speaker 1: in leadership UH. And so as a consequence, I one
- 6:07Speaker 1: let me say we got no corporate donations, is that
- 6:11Speaker 1: our modeled stewardship UH and increased the volume of trust
- 6:17Speaker 1: that they are to have in the church and made
- 6:20Speaker 1: sure that church was not just a Sunday morning experience
- 6:24Speaker 1: but a Monday through Saturday Saturday interaction. And so it's
- 6:28Speaker 1: a consequence begin to do aggressive saving UH, investing UH
- 6:34Speaker 1: and aggressive in UH. A debt reduction almost doubling up
- 6:39Speaker 1: with our mortgage payment was in order to get that
- 6:42Speaker 1: done and then refinanced to take it out of the
- 6:45Speaker 1: hands of an evangelical bank UH and do business with
- 6:49Speaker 1: a black bank right here in Atlanta. Citizens. Trust what
- 6:53Speaker 1: that we learned over the last I would tell you
- 6:55Speaker 1: I've been an entrepreneur and publicly, I don't know if
- 6:58Speaker 1: I was always comfortable with letting people know I was
- 7:00Speaker 1: a black owner. Since George Floyd, you know, Google has
- 7:05Speaker 1: even made a request if you're black owners so they
- 7:08Speaker 1: can put that in their directory. So with that transition
- 7:12Speaker 1: and then they opening up new Black Wall Street. It's
- 7:15Speaker 1: really is you know you're you're at the forefront of it.
- 7:17Speaker 1: You know you're you're you're talking to people with their
- 7:20Speaker 1: struggles they uplift. How do you look at the new
- 7:22Speaker 1: Black Wall Street and how does the church play that role?
- 7:26Speaker 1: And beyond the church the success stories that you're trying
- 7:29Speaker 1: to put out there, I think the deficit of the
- 7:33Speaker 1: Black Church in large measure it's when the Black Church,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and I'm speaking in generality speaking speaks about economics. We
- 7:41Speaker 1: only do it in terms of asking people for their time, right,
- 7:46Speaker 1: asking for ten percent, but never show people how to
- 7:49Speaker 1: multiply the nightey and I think part of the councel
- 7:53Speaker 1: of my responsibility is pastor UH is to talk about
- 7:56Speaker 1: how do we manage our revenue. Dr King said before
- 8:01Speaker 1: his demise that African Americans spend the powers made us
- 8:06Speaker 1: the fourteenth wealthiest nation in the world at this point,
- 8:09Speaker 1: where the eleventh wealthiest nation in the world, but we're
- 8:13Speaker 1: not doing anything about it. In the Asian community here
- 8:17Speaker 1: in America, UH, their dollars circulates twenty three times before
- 8:21Speaker 1: it leaves their hands. In the Jewish community, seventeen times
- 8:25Speaker 1: before it leaves their hands in the Caucasian community twelve
- 8:28Speaker 1: times before it leaves their hands. In the Black community,
- 8:32Speaker 1: our check is cash just thirty minutes before we hand
- 8:37Speaker 1: it over to somebody else. And so when we talk
- 8:39Speaker 1: about economic development, it's got to be not just a campaign,
- 8:43Speaker 1: but a mind fright. And so to celebrate June tenth,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I am challenging the community to open up one thousand
- 8:51Speaker 1: accounts as Citizens Trust Bank. Eight six percent of people
- 8:55Speaker 1: in our community don't own a diamond stock. So on Sunday,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm challenging our community and bringing in black brokerage firms
- 9:05Speaker 1: for African Americans to alieve in inheritance and to know
- 9:09Speaker 1: how to do investment. If we just have checking accounts,
- 9:12Speaker 1: the banks don't look at us. To your original question
- 9:16Speaker 1: about Black Wall Street, it was the brainchild of Mr
- 9:20Speaker 1: Bill Allen, and he told me about it, and I
- 9:23Speaker 1: told him there's no way it will succeed if the
- 9:25Speaker 1: Black church is not interloped in the idea. So I
- 9:29Speaker 1: came and walked alongside him, made an agreement with them
- 9:33Speaker 1: that of the one hundred businesses that are in Black
- 9:35Speaker 1: Wall Street, ten percent of them have got to be
- 9:39Speaker 1: business owners that come out of new birth. To make
- 9:42Speaker 1: sure that we are really championing the call my conviction,
- 9:47Speaker 1: brother McDonald's. If I have ten thousand members, why are
- 9:51Speaker 1: you struggling to sell your book? How come you don't
- 9:54Speaker 1: have any clients because they're right there in the church.
- 9:58Speaker 1: We've got to develop our the ecosystem in order to
- 10:02Speaker 1: thrust us to that model. Well, you know, but that's
- 10:05Speaker 1: first one of the main reasons why I'm unfortunate on
- 10:07Speaker 1: w c OK to do money Making Conversation master Class.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It's boy promoting dreamers, especially in the entrepreneurship and small
- 10:14Speaker 1: business of the lane. Now when I look at you,
- 10:16Speaker 1: your more house grad. HBCUs have been at the forefront
- 10:20Speaker 1: of academic excellence forever, but only recently because of massive
- 10:24Speaker 1: donations by individuals in the corporate world. Lead. Uh, how
- 10:29Speaker 1: is that? Does that make you feel good? Dr Bryant?
- 10:32Speaker 1: Or it makes you disappoint you that there's nothing there's
- 10:36Speaker 1: ever been wrong with HBCUs. We just hadn't been recognized
- 10:39Speaker 1: and given our due. I think um that we in
- 10:46Speaker 1: the HBC all but have understood our value without mainline accepted. Right,
- 10:54Speaker 1: HBC US graduate more black doctor, more lawyers, more doctor degrees. Uh,
- 11:00Speaker 1: they're no predominantly white institutions with minimal support and financial backing.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Is all inspiring. Now that we have it, the sky
- 11:15Speaker 1: is the limit and people now walk on the motor
- 11:18Speaker 1: And so I think that this is really just putting
- 11:20Speaker 1: us in a greater place where I help y'all out
- 11:23Speaker 1: with those status that here is the top of my mind.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Fit percent of the black school teachers come from HBCUs,
- 11:28Speaker 1: A percent of the medical doctors and dentists come from HBCUs.
- 11:32Speaker 1: S of the judges and lawyers comes from HBCUs. Of
- 11:37Speaker 1: the Black members of conference comes from HBCUs. Of the
- 11:42Speaker 1: STEM graduates come from HBCUs. North Carolina A and T
- 11:46Speaker 1: graduates more Black engineers than any engineering program in the country. Also,
- 11:52Speaker 1: there are more generals in the army outside of West
- 11:55Speaker 1: Point who are black, from Carming, from South Carolina State.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Those are the stat that I that need to be
- 12:02Speaker 1: out there, that I that I I need all of
- 12:06Speaker 1: that all we'll see, We'll see. That's what that's that's
- 12:11Speaker 1: why we do this show, Dr Brian, because it's about information.
- 12:15Speaker 1: It's about information from a lack of knowledge. Thank you,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and that and that that you know and the knowledge
- 12:21Speaker 1: is you know, it is preaching. Now I can do
- 12:24Speaker 1: this show. I could do a pre recorded show and
- 12:27Speaker 1: and just go all by my business. But I've turned
- 12:29Speaker 1: this show into a show where people can call in
- 12:32Speaker 1: and then get somebody and your local giant to have
- 12:35Speaker 1: you come on my show. It's part of the building
- 12:37Speaker 1: of the brand, you know, to have the new Black
- 12:39Speaker 1: Wall Street, those archreneers need to know they have a
- 12:42Speaker 1: vocal home right here where they can come and share
- 12:45Speaker 1: their dreams and expand their brands. So, general relationship, what
- 12:50Speaker 1: do you feel a black community that needs to understand
- 12:52Speaker 1: about money? You talked about the stock market, because now
- 12:55Speaker 1: I would tell anybody who's listening, when the stock market
- 12:58Speaker 1: is down, that's when you want to buy. You want
- 13:00Speaker 1: to buy when it's a bear. You don't want to
- 13:02Speaker 1: buy when it's a bull. And so if you you're
- 13:06Speaker 1: talking about bringing in that type of money, but that's
- 13:08Speaker 1: a different type of money. But you had an incredible
- 13:10Speaker 1: stat about how money doesn't stand the black community's hands.
- 13:14Speaker 1: So what do we really need to understand Because if
- 13:17Speaker 1: you're gonna talk about money, you got to talk about credit,
- 13:20Speaker 1: and credit and money tends to be a separate conversation
- 13:25Speaker 1: in the black household. I often uh use this example
- 13:30Speaker 1: uh that I know by mcdowald, you can run across
- 13:33Speaker 1: the fifty yard line with that is. Black people are
- 13:36Speaker 1: the only people in the world who have a house.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Want a party for an apartment? Right, we don't really
- 13:43Speaker 1: talk about homeownership. My father put to my sister and
- 13:47Speaker 1: I want a plan when we got out of college,
- 13:50Speaker 1: which was the ten ten eighty which I still modeled
- 13:52Speaker 1: to this day, which is saved temper cent tive temper
- 13:57Speaker 1: cent live off for eight uh. And it has really
- 14:01Speaker 1: helped us when you realize that the average African American
- 14:04Speaker 1: lives at a hundred and ten percent of that income
- 14:07Speaker 1: that were in debt trying to keep up with the
- 14:11Speaker 1: jokes is the credit card that is through the roof.
- 14:16Speaker 1: We can have a whole different show about the swamp
- 14:20Speaker 1: known as student loans. Uh. And so there's a whole
- 14:23Speaker 1: lot of financial literacy that is so needed and necessary
- 14:26Speaker 1: for us to be able to throve and get our footing.
- 14:30Speaker 1: It sounds good at this level, but there are those
- 14:32Speaker 1: who have the trenches who really don't have a basic
- 14:36Speaker 1: understanding what you're talking about. A bull in the bay,
- 14:39Speaker 1: they got no idea that we are not in the
- 14:42Speaker 1: conversation about inflation and about how that's going to impact
- 14:46Speaker 1: every area of our lives. But now it's a part
- 14:50Speaker 1: apostle responsibility of the church to impart that knowledge and
- 14:55Speaker 1: to share their wisdom. You know, it's really interesting when
- 14:57Speaker 1: I hear you talk from here that financial literature. That's
- 15:00Speaker 1: such a big words. It means so much. And sometimes
- 15:03Speaker 1: you can lets people they walk in the room and
- 15:07Speaker 1: they walk out really didn't gain anything from the conversation.
- 15:10Speaker 1: How can I help you know what the mission that
- 15:13Speaker 1: you're putting in place in this city this is. You know,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I have a certain skill set. I have a have
- 15:18Speaker 1: a show to be able to move forward the narrative.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But it's about job. It's about economic development, It's about
- 15:24Speaker 1: money and getting the right jobs in place. How can
- 15:26Speaker 1: a person like ru Shan McDonald my show can help
- 15:29Speaker 1: the cause and move the needle? Cry loud and spare
- 15:33Speaker 1: not you you're doing the dog on thing. We're so
- 15:37Speaker 1: much about focus is on the entertainment and not on enlightenment. Uh.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And so what you're doing just in this conversation is
- 15:47Speaker 1: a revolutionary act inne to itself. We like to think,
- 15:51Speaker 1: we like to dance we'd like to drive the ball.
- 15:53Speaker 1: We don't like to sit down. The average African American
- 15:57Speaker 1: post high school does not read nonfiction book from cover
- 16:02Speaker 1: to cover. Uh. And so you are doing through this podcast,
- 16:06Speaker 1: this is an audio book. You are giving information that
- 16:11Speaker 1: they are not getting out of closed libraries or Google. Uh.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And so I'm just appreciative how you staying on the
- 16:18Speaker 1: back card. We'll be right back with more Money Making
- 16:21Speaker 1: Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now, let's return to Money
- 16:30Speaker 1: Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. You said some great
- 16:36Speaker 1: things are still I'm telling anybody my numbers available, my
- 16:39Speaker 1: email address is available, this show is available. They got
- 16:42Speaker 1: the people are young entrepreneurs down at New Black Wall Street.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Let them know they can contact w C. Okay reach
- 16:48Speaker 1: out to me. Because of the fact if if you,
- 16:50Speaker 1: if your business don't have an avenue for people to
- 16:53Speaker 1: know about it, then it leads to frustration, It leads
- 16:56Speaker 1: to you, It leads you becoming the victim of saying
- 16:58Speaker 1: your dream is an impossible ask. And my whole thing
- 17:01Speaker 1: in my whole life, like I said, I'm one of
- 17:03Speaker 1: those guys too, from the from nothing to something. You know,
- 17:06Speaker 1: you know the two bedrooms, shotgun house, six sisters, two brothers.
- 17:10Speaker 1: My father had the third grade education, truck driver. My
- 17:12Speaker 1: mama graduated my high school. And so I know what
- 17:15Speaker 1: you have to do, and you have to follow dreams,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but also you have to have mentors and people believe
- 17:19Speaker 1: in you that role. I think that's what you're planning
- 17:22Speaker 1: as a church leader, correct, I'm endeavoring to do that.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I think that we've got to one dissolved the old
- 17:31Speaker 1: school notion that the pastor knows everything. Is that we've
- 17:35Speaker 1: got to have circular leadership and not singular leadership. And
- 17:40Speaker 1: you need people who can educate us not just on finances,
- 17:43Speaker 1: who can educate us on the law, who can help
- 17:46Speaker 1: us in Civics class, who can help us in this
- 17:50Speaker 1: whole right to vote quest. Where is the black community's
- 17:54Speaker 1: voice on road versus way? Where are we in terms
- 17:58Speaker 1: of gentrification, where are we with the underfunding of public education?
- 18:04Speaker 1: All of those things. We've got to bring all the
- 18:06Speaker 1: different seats to de table. And when you bring that
- 18:09Speaker 1: to the table, that's all about the horizons and the
- 18:11Speaker 1: new direct direction of new birth that you brought. Now,
- 18:14Speaker 1: what is the future of new birth and what is
- 18:16Speaker 1: what's the ultimate goals. If you advanced me that two
- 18:20Speaker 1: years ago, I rattled it off with a boozy and
- 18:24Speaker 1: a silence. But I think that the church, quite frankically,
- 18:29Speaker 1: is in pubic our voices, changing our skin has uh
- 18:34Speaker 1: actnate uh in the words of the old people, we
- 18:38Speaker 1: started to smell like outside. You're gonna have to ask
- 18:42Speaker 1: me that probably in another nine months, when the dust
- 18:45Speaker 1: settles and we're able to see what does church look like.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I'm doing something my grandparents would have died over July
- 18:53Speaker 1: in August. I'm only doing in person church on first
- 18:56Speaker 1: and third Sunday and completely virtual second in the forth
- 19:00Speaker 1: right because our numbers really shot up in the pandemic.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So I gotta see is it really worth it to
- 19:07Speaker 1: turn the lights on us the impacted different So I'm
- 19:12Speaker 1: trying out a model that I've not seen in a
- 19:14Speaker 1: black or white church. Uh So, pray for a brother?
- 19:18Speaker 1: Uh so? And nine months asked me again, And I'll
- 19:20Speaker 1: tell you, dr a lot of people praying for you,
- 19:23Speaker 1: a lot of people praying for you. But I will
- 19:25Speaker 1: get in live to help pray for you. Uh. You know.
- 19:28Speaker 1: The thing about it is that it's about charisma, is
- 19:31Speaker 1: about having a direction, being focused because the church is
- 19:34Speaker 1: always the basis. You know, you know, black people got faith,
- 19:37Speaker 1: black people believe. Black people also can be misled. When
- 19:41Speaker 1: I say that, not a negative way, because it's about
- 19:43Speaker 1: the information. If you know the right information, you misled.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And that's what we talk about economics, we talk about literacy.
- 19:48Speaker 1: You know, you know it's a joke in the black
- 19:51Speaker 1: community about putting their child's name on the light bill,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and that's not a joke. That's real, and then their
- 19:57Speaker 1: child's life is ruined and so. But but talk about
- 20:01Speaker 1: your journey and not in much detail or small detail
- 20:05Speaker 1: about you know where you come from to this point.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And also the fact that you know your your your
- 20:11Speaker 1: history in the church is not something you started as
- 20:14Speaker 1: part of a family's journey, if you can. I am
- 20:19Speaker 1: originally from Boston, Massachusetts. I was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. UM.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I failed the eleventh grade. After I failed the eleventh grade, McDonald,
- 20:32Speaker 1: my parents sent me to live in Monrovia, Liberia, West
- 20:35Speaker 1: Africa for a year. UH for listeners who do not know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: Liberria is the only country in Africa that was formed
- 20:43Speaker 1: by former slaves UH. And so I lived there for
- 20:47Speaker 1: a year I came back got a G E d
- 20:51Speaker 1: UH and I'm the first person to go to more
- 20:53Speaker 1: House with a G E D. I graduated from more
- 20:57Speaker 1: House Political Science and International Studies and UH in tradition
- 21:02Speaker 1: of HBCUs. A month before graduation, I was alerted that
- 21:09Speaker 1: I didn't have enough classes. As an International Studies major,
- 21:14Speaker 1: I needed to be proficient in the language. I wasn't
- 21:17Speaker 1: proficient in a language. The only option was to do
- 21:21Speaker 1: study abroad. I went through the list I saw to
- 21:25Speaker 1: do study abroad. The only country I could go to
- 21:27Speaker 1: with no language requirement for South Africa. I go to
- 21:31Speaker 1: South Africa. By the luck of the draw, God's grace. UH.
- 21:35Speaker 1: It is the year of the elections and I become
- 21:38Speaker 1: Nelson Mandel as youth intern while living there in South Africa.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Come back, I go to Duke University. And Duke University
- 21:49Speaker 1: significant for me. I went there for a master's degree,
- 21:53Speaker 1: but many years before I went to do my grandfather
- 21:56Speaker 1: was a chef at Duke University when they didn't let
- 21:59Speaker 1: black students there. While a student at Duke University, Q
- 22:04Speaker 1: C and full may tamped me to be National Youth
- 22:07Speaker 1: in college directed to nup A CP and I boast
- 22:11Speaker 1: the record of being the youngest youth directed the nuble
- 22:13Speaker 1: a CP I've had at that time. I came out
- 22:18Speaker 1: of the N double a CP. Uh Rashana, you're not
- 22:21Speaker 1: gonna leave my story. We had our national convention in Charlotte,
- 22:29Speaker 1: North Carolina, and uh quite see in full May has
- 22:34Speaker 1: laryngitis and asked me to give the national address to
- 22:37Speaker 1: the nuble a CP twenty eight years old. The next day,
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm on the cover of USA today. I get off
- 22:44Speaker 1: of the stage from giving that address and I met
- 22:48Speaker 1: at the bottom of the stage, out of one and
- 22:51Speaker 1: only did Gregory. Gregory grabs me by my collar, throws
- 22:57Speaker 1: me up against wall. It says to me, young man,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you're out of order. That ain't word he used. He
- 23:04Speaker 1: used another word. Uh know what he's said. Word. You
- 23:11Speaker 1: are out of order, he said. When I was growing
- 23:14Speaker 1: up black people, when they were in trouble, We'll call
- 23:17Speaker 1: on Jesus and the N double a CP. He said.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You're a part of a generation that doesn't believe in either.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You're supposed to be a pastor by the McDonald Long
- 23:28Speaker 1: story short. I walked out of there and six months
- 23:31Speaker 1: later I started my church in Baltimore, forty three members
- 23:37Speaker 1: to ten fouls, and three years ago God redirected my
- 23:43Speaker 1: path to leave the church started to come here to
- 23:47Speaker 1: Atlanta the pastor the Great New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.
- 23:51Speaker 1: That's my story and Ant you we know that the
- 23:54Speaker 1: beauty of that story, and I want Black people to
- 23:56Speaker 1: hear it. I want people to hear this in general,
- 23:59Speaker 1: is that you can't you can't achieve success by yourself.
- 24:02Speaker 1: That's the number one thing you get away from this store.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And then people have to see something in you and
- 24:07Speaker 1: I give up on you. That's also in this store.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And when when? And so that's that's started with the parents.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Parents didn't give up on him. He failed, but they
- 24:15Speaker 1: didn't see failure. And then he accepted the challenge and
- 24:18Speaker 1: rolls beyond it and and everywhere he went, somebody stepped
- 24:22Speaker 1: in and moved him forward. Now, when those happens, when
- 24:26Speaker 1: those moments happen, and you can correct me, Dr Bryant,
- 24:28Speaker 1: and I think I'm on the same page with you.
- 24:31Speaker 1: They pushed him to be unknown, and that's where a
- 24:34Speaker 1: lot of people stop when they don't know what's happening.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Fear drops in and they stopped moving forward. And that
- 24:41Speaker 1: is what's holding back our community because we want to
- 24:44Speaker 1: know what's happening, and you don't always know what's happening
- 24:47Speaker 1: when you're trying to achieve success. The success is tied
- 24:50Speaker 1: to overcome the unknown and overcoming fear at my correct Sir,
- 24:55Speaker 1: I don't know you more than correct and UH, everybody
- 24:59Speaker 1: has a test of on me. Uh. Let's Brown often says, UH,
- 25:03Speaker 1: your revenue is in your reflection. What is that you're
- 25:08Speaker 1: able excuse me, what you're able to share, what you're
- 25:11Speaker 1: able to disclose? I'm so sorry, and what it is
- 25:16Speaker 1: that you have learned from? Uh? And so I'm grateful,
- 25:19Speaker 1: So I UH as a consequence of my own journey.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Like many churches, we give our scholarships, but I am
- 25:27Speaker 1: intentional not just give scholarships to those who graduate topic
- 25:30Speaker 1: to class, but those also who graduated bottom of the barrel. UH,
- 25:35Speaker 1: that they also need an opportunity and need a chance.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And that's beauty in the progress of HBCUs again, who
- 25:42Speaker 1: gave students who were not outstand that UH an opportunity
- 25:47Speaker 1: to thrive and shine uh in so young brath, Well,
- 25:50Speaker 1: here's the interesting thing about to wrap up here is
- 25:52Speaker 1: that I'm from Houston, Texas, so I've been celebrating June Team.
- 25:56Speaker 1: You know the state in the State of Texas holiday
- 25:59Speaker 1: Forever Nows and Day, and now it also lands on
- 26:02Speaker 1: Father's Day, okay. And black fathers have always been pushed
- 26:07Speaker 1: aside or said we are we don't understand the value,
- 26:10Speaker 1: or we're not responsible for you're a black man. I'm
- 26:13Speaker 1: a black man. I know I can get I get
- 26:15Speaker 1: hard when I hear I get upset when I hear that. Uh.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And and knowing that Father's Day is coming up, what
- 26:21Speaker 1: role or responsibility are you taking upon yourself to make
- 26:25Speaker 1: sure that black men are being recognized for being strong father,
- 26:30Speaker 1: strong parents, strong leaders in the community moving forward? Yeah?
- 26:37Speaker 1: Is that your health is your wealth U. And so
- 26:39Speaker 1: on Father's Day, we are doing free prostate cancer screenings
- 26:45Speaker 1: for all of our brothers because so many black men
- 26:48Speaker 1: have been impacted by it and the saying as our
- 26:52Speaker 1: early prevention least to secure and most black men don't
- 26:56Speaker 1: go to the hospital till they come through the emergency role.
- 26:59Speaker 1: It is all so June Team that we're setting up
- 27:01Speaker 1: these economic portfolios for investment for our people to be
- 27:05Speaker 1: able to have some greater sense of what the strength
- 27:09Speaker 1: of their dollar is. So in those ways we're gonna
- 27:13Speaker 1: affirm as well as trying to help fathers who want
- 27:17Speaker 1: visitation who have been robbed of it to be able
- 27:21Speaker 1: to get that through our partner with the courts is
- 27:24Speaker 1: you know, as we as we as the pandemic, as
- 27:26Speaker 1: you said earlier, has been a health and economic crisis,
- 27:29Speaker 1: and that's always been a blessing for the church. You know,
- 27:31Speaker 1: as one was to say, I'm talking to one of
- 27:33Speaker 1: the most influential religious leaders in the country, and you
- 27:37Speaker 1: Dr Bryant, as we as you call someone to the
- 27:39Speaker 1: altar and someone's listening to this show, what is the
- 27:43Speaker 1: final message you wanted to receive? So they can walk
- 27:46Speaker 1: away with a clear understanding that they can be successful.
- 27:49Speaker 1: They are walking and blessed shoes. They just need to
- 27:52Speaker 1: acknowledge it and accept the responsibility of hard work. That
- 27:58Speaker 1: the church to not over spiritual lines. It is nothing
- 28:00Speaker 1: more than a recycling center. We take that which has
- 28:04Speaker 1: been discarded, that which has been thrown away, that which
- 28:07Speaker 1: has imperfections, and helped turn it into something else. The
- 28:12Speaker 1: essence of who they are remains the same, but the
- 28:15Speaker 1: shape and the spirit of it is what it is
- 28:18Speaker 1: that we change. So every Sunday I tell people you
- 28:21Speaker 1: can come as you are, just be clear you won't
- 28:24Speaker 1: stay as you are. My guests rose from leventh grade
- 28:28Speaker 1: dropout to receive a g D, enrolled in Morehouse, first
- 28:33Speaker 1: time pH d graduate of Duke, and now he is
- 28:37Speaker 1: the senior pastor of Newberg Mission there Baptist Church. He's
- 28:40Speaker 1: a leader and also an inspiration and I'm so fortunate
- 28:43Speaker 1: to have him show to share these words. Know this,
- 28:46Speaker 1: whenever you have something, please come to Money Making Converses
- 28:48Speaker 1: Master Class. I'm a friend, advocate and a believer in
- 28:51Speaker 1: what you're trying to do to the community. Thank you
- 28:53Speaker 1: for coming on. I'm appreciative. Thank you so much, and
- 28:56Speaker 1: don't forget I'm coming back to tell you about the
- 28:58Speaker 1: future of the church once I figure out what it is. Well,
- 29:02Speaker 1: I guess what you know something? It would be quick
- 29:03Speaker 1: then because you've got technology on your side. Okay, I
- 29:06Speaker 1: appreciate you, Dr Bryan, thank you for coming on that show.

- 29:28Speaker 1: and founder of the God Shift movement. Say Rattler talks
- 29:32Speaker 1: about the embracing disruption because it allows you to experience
- 29:35Speaker 1: the shift. Shy talks about embracing disruption because it allows
- 29:40Speaker 1: you to experience a shift. You're empowering people to do
- 29:43Speaker 1: what now? I'm empowering people to embrace disruption, collide with
- 29:48Speaker 1: God's purpose and chase their destiny. People's lives are experiencing disappointments,
- 29:52Speaker 1: but I believe that God is using those things to
- 29:54Speaker 1: get our attention. The question is are we going to
- 29:57Speaker 1: learn what it is that He wants us to learn?
- 29:59Speaker 1: And disruption doesn't all us have to be negative. I
- 30:01Speaker 1: think that the negative things are what get people's attention
- 30:03Speaker 1: the most. But I believe that it's an opportunity for
- 30:06Speaker 1: us to say, Lord, where is it that you need
- 30:08Speaker 1: me next? If you were to listen to this full
- 30:10Speaker 1: interview with Nai Ratler, it's available on money Making Conversation

- 30:18Speaker 1: with Rashan McDonald Welcome to Money Making Conversation Masterclass. I
- 30:22Speaker 1: am your host, Rashan McDonald. I recognize that we all
- 30:25Speaker 1: have different definitions of success. For you and may be
- 30:28Speaker 1: the size of your paycheck. Mine is inspiring people to
- 30:30Speaker 1: accomplish their goals and live their very best life. It
- 30:33Speaker 1: is time to stop reading other people's success stores to
- 30:36Speaker 1: start writing your own. People always talk about their purpose
- 30:39Speaker 1: or gifts. If you have a gift, leave with your
- 30:41Speaker 1: gifts and don't let your friends, family, or coworkers stop
- 30:44Speaker 1: you from planning or living your dreams. My next guest
- 30:47Speaker 1: is Cassandra Cummings. She's a leading wealth and investment strategist
- 30:51Speaker 1: and founder of the Stocks and Stilettos Society, is the
- 30:54Speaker 1: fastest growing online community and more than one hundred thousand
- 30:58Speaker 1: women investors who are leveraging the power of investing to
- 31:01Speaker 1: achieve their wealth building goals. She's a licensed financial advisor, investor,
- 31:06Speaker 1: and speaker. Cassandra provides her knowledge and guidance to empower
- 31:10Speaker 1: others on financial literacy. People everywhere should recognize her talent
- 31:15Speaker 1: as we will at this point. Please work with the
- 31:17Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Cassandra Commons, thanks so much for
- 31:22Speaker 1: having me, Thanks for having me. Well, first of all,
- 31:25Speaker 1: thank you you on the West Coast. You're based in Oakland, California. Yes,
- 31:30Speaker 1: I'm here, um right across from San Francisco and go Warriors.
- 31:36Speaker 1: That's true, that's true in the playoffs. Good thing, But
- 31:40Speaker 1: I don't think the Warriors are keeping you in Oakland, California.
- 31:43Speaker 1: In California, why Oakland California? Will you're well, you're just
- 31:48Speaker 1: like using social media, using the internet to build your brand.
- 31:51Speaker 1: But while Oakland, California, why are you? Why are you there? Um? Well,
- 31:56Speaker 1: I'm here because this is home for me and there's
- 31:58Speaker 1: no place like home. So you know, Um, I came
- 32:02Speaker 1: back because there's a certain type of energy, there's a
- 32:05Speaker 1: certain type of grit that I learned while being here,
- 32:08Speaker 1: and I felt like I needed that energy once again
- 32:12Speaker 1: in my life. So I circled back after making a
- 32:14Speaker 1: few pitch stops, and I'm back home now. Those pitch stops.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I always tell people, like I've lived in New York,
- 32:20Speaker 1: I've lived in Chicago, I mean really lived, I mean years,
- 32:23Speaker 1: lived in Los Angeles, the longest fifteen years, and presently
- 32:27Speaker 1: i've been in Atlantis is two thousand seven, So it's
- 32:30Speaker 1: about fifteen years here, but I'm originally from Houston, Texas.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Each stop maybe a better person, maybe understand that different
- 32:38Speaker 1: people are different parts of this country, think differently, have
- 32:41Speaker 1: a different set of cultural rules, and also have different dreams.
- 32:45Speaker 1: In your travels and the places that you said you
- 32:47Speaker 1: had these pitch stops, how did they impact you and
- 32:50Speaker 1: made you the person that you are today? Well, I
- 32:53Speaker 1: had a couple of pitch stops. I too, lived in
- 32:56Speaker 1: l a form quite a long time. I think it
- 32:59Speaker 1: was about ten years years. I finished school down there
- 33:01Speaker 1: at USC and then from USC, I wasn't quite ready
- 33:05Speaker 1: to go home yet, and so I ventured out to Houston, Texas.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I actually was pursuing a career as a broadcast journalist,
- 33:14Speaker 1: and so I had some opportunities to go out there
- 33:17Speaker 1: and really work on the craft of becoming a news
- 33:21Speaker 1: reporter and had dreams of becoming a news anchor. And
- 33:26Speaker 1: then I had to grow up. I had to actually
- 33:28Speaker 1: go back to what I knew best, and that was,
- 33:30Speaker 1: you know, the money industry, and ended up coming back
- 33:35Speaker 1: to the West Coast, where um I started my career
- 33:38Speaker 1: in financial services with a I g Well, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: I don't really use the world. Grow up, you know,
- 33:44Speaker 1: because a lot of people if I was a kids,
- 33:46Speaker 1: a lot of people out there mature. I think that
- 33:49Speaker 1: the realization of what your true gifts or your challenge.
- 33:51Speaker 1: That's why I talk about your gifts or your purpose.
- 33:53Speaker 1: You know, lea with it. You know that's what you're
- 33:56Speaker 1: doing now. You're leading with your true gifts just because
- 33:58Speaker 1: you want to do something like I wanted to lay basketball,
- 34:01Speaker 1: but I just knew that that wasn't my gift, nor
- 34:03Speaker 1: was that my purpose. And so what you just realized
- 34:06Speaker 1: is that this is my true gift take advantage of
- 34:08Speaker 1: I remember, I would tell I wrote on I was
- 34:11Speaker 1: living in l A October nine nine one, and I
- 34:15Speaker 1: had a guard. If you allow me to maximize all
- 34:18Speaker 1: of my talents, and I will follow the talent that
- 34:21Speaker 1: will lead me to my where I was supposed to go.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Because we all if we if when we were young,
- 34:27Speaker 1: we have so many visions of grandeur about what we
- 34:30Speaker 1: can do, but no goal are tied. It's tied to it.
- 34:33Speaker 1: That's what I felt that you're back in the financial
- 34:36Speaker 1: world because you put goals to it and the goals
- 34:39Speaker 1: come to expectations. And when we reached out the expectation,
- 34:42Speaker 1: you start reaping results. Whereas I was one time in
- 34:46Speaker 1: the entertainment business, I was a very successful stand up comic.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I just didn't I couldn't become goal order with that.
- 34:52Speaker 1: You're going for audition, then he tell you some people
- 34:54Speaker 1: said they like it, and they don't call you back.
- 34:57Speaker 1: They call you back, then somebody else gets it. So
- 34:59Speaker 1: I can't tie goes to that. I'm just a logical
- 35:02Speaker 1: thinking person. So I just think you're just a logical
- 35:04Speaker 1: thinking person. Am I correct to Cassandral, Absolutely, But you know,
- 35:08Speaker 1: make no mistake about it. I've definitely endured a lot
- 35:11Speaker 1: of rejection, UM. That was really filled in the news
- 35:16Speaker 1: broadcasting world, got a lot of nose sent out, a
- 35:18Speaker 1: lot of demo tapes, UM. And I would have, you know,
- 35:22Speaker 1: have to say that's been the case. Even in financial services.
- 35:25Speaker 1: You have a lot of clients that don't necessarily established
- 35:29Speaker 1: rapport with you, they don't necessarily want to work to you.
- 35:32Speaker 1: That's just you know, a sotal form of rejection as well.
- 35:35Speaker 1: And I mean I too have fire clients because it
- 35:38Speaker 1: just wasn't a good personality fit or you know, they
- 35:41Speaker 1: were looking for something that I may not be able
- 35:43Speaker 1: to successfully deliver on So I mean, I think it's
- 35:47Speaker 1: just everyday part of life dealing with those nose, and
- 35:50Speaker 1: those nose they make you pivot, so you end up
- 35:55Speaker 1: having to change course. And that's okay because sometimes when
- 35:58Speaker 1: one door closes, right as they say, another door opens
- 36:02Speaker 1: and sometimes it could be the grand prize in that
- 36:05Speaker 1: new door. I agree, I agree, And I think that
- 36:08Speaker 1: a lot of people don't realize that, you know, they
- 36:10Speaker 1: feel they'd be They allow themselves to be blindsided by
- 36:14Speaker 1: what their own goals, and their goals might not be
- 36:17Speaker 1: the right goals from them. I know that, and that's
- 36:20Speaker 1: why I wanted to bring you on the show because
- 36:21Speaker 1: just looking at your your body of work, it has
- 36:25Speaker 1: it has tied to Journey's, it is tied to decision
- 36:27Speaker 1: making and oftentimes when you are and I just say,
- 36:30Speaker 1: when you're an attractive woman, then a lot of people
- 36:33Speaker 1: will not give you the credit do credit because of
- 36:35Speaker 1: your attractiveness. Am I wrong and making those statements like that? Absolutely? Um.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I've always sort of played my beauty down a little
- 36:45Speaker 1: bit um for the most part, and I would say
- 36:49Speaker 1: in recent years, I told myself, I'm not playing small.
- 36:51Speaker 1: This is who I am right. I just so happens
- 36:54Speaker 1: that I have the brains that comes with a pretty face,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and I need to act. He used that as an asset.
- 37:02Speaker 1: You are trying to ugly yourself up now because well,
- 37:06Speaker 1: you know, I just you know, just learn how to
- 37:09Speaker 1: put on some eyelash, some lip laws. But before then,
- 37:15Speaker 1: you know, it was just really like, you know, this
- 37:17Speaker 1: is who I am, and coming from Oakland, you know,
- 37:20Speaker 1: we don't do a lot of beautification here. I would say,
- 37:24Speaker 1: you know, we grew up, wasn't a lot of you know,
- 37:27Speaker 1: provocative clothing and things like that. We were really from
- 37:31Speaker 1: the town and we had a different way of maneuvering
- 37:34Speaker 1: here that didn't really require you to flex your beauty.
- 37:38Speaker 1: You really had to show improve in different ways and
- 37:41Speaker 1: not leave with your face. So I learned that. But
- 37:44Speaker 1: as I started to make those pit stops, I saw
- 37:47Speaker 1: really how advantageous. You know, pretty has privileges, and I
- 37:52Speaker 1: really needed to use that to my advantage. Absolutely. You know,
- 37:55Speaker 1: look at me, I got my suit on. You know
- 37:56Speaker 1: what I'm saying. You'll say, I'm talking look at pretty
- 38:00Speaker 1: as I can. So you're talking to you looking a
- 38:06Speaker 1: think I like that. I like that because you know,
- 38:08Speaker 1: as we go through life, you know, you have to
- 38:11Speaker 1: like put all of your all your bullets in the gun.
- 38:14Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, It's just starts shooting and
- 38:16Speaker 1: you want you shooting your best shot and so and so.
- 38:20Speaker 1: That's but the one thing that we know that that
- 38:22Speaker 1: you leave with is your intellect. When you leave with
- 38:25Speaker 1: your brand, you leave with the fact that you have
- 38:27Speaker 1: you can provide a strategy or f natural goals that
- 38:31Speaker 1: can change people's lives. TEP a little bit of how
- 38:33Speaker 1: you came to be a wealth and investment strategist. It
- 38:37Speaker 1: was really from my college mentor of Her name is Angela,
- 38:41Speaker 1: and I mean this woman is was a powerhouse, and
- 38:48Speaker 1: you know, I wanted to emulate her. And I saw
- 38:52Speaker 1: her moving and shaking. She was a bond trader here
- 38:55Speaker 1: um a sitting stock exchange. She worked in finance, and
- 39:00Speaker 1: I was like, I want to be like her when
- 39:02Speaker 1: I grow up because I came from you know, very
- 39:05Speaker 1: humble beginnings for on welfare and I had an opportunity
- 39:09Speaker 1: to now have a mentor have someone that could you know,
- 39:14Speaker 1: get my foot in the door and really show me
- 39:16Speaker 1: the ropes um. And so that was really my introduction
- 39:20Speaker 1: to financial services. It was my introduction to really putting
- 39:24Speaker 1: myself out there to help others. She is so generous
- 39:29Speaker 1: with her time, with her knowledge, and that's something that
- 39:32Speaker 1: I just wanted to emulate. And it just really became
- 39:35Speaker 1: a part of who I am now now and you
- 39:38Speaker 1: say who you are? So now you are a mentor. Yes,
- 39:42Speaker 1: now you are a leader. Now responsibility comes with that.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Yes times. I mean I never imagined the impact that
- 39:54Speaker 1: I would have, like I saw the impact she had,
- 39:58Speaker 1: but I think I have definitely ten x that in it.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I definitely did. She had an impact on you before
- 40:04Speaker 1: you know, social media got out there, you know, and
- 40:07Speaker 1: before the end ofnet became the craze. So you know,
- 40:09Speaker 1: she she hut. She's a lot more intimate, a lot
- 40:13Speaker 1: more personal. But now you know, you post up on lengthdin,
- 40:16Speaker 1: you post up on social media, people a d M
- 40:19Speaker 1: you and all these things and what you will respond
- 40:21Speaker 1: to them or not. Sometimes you don't want to, and
- 40:23Speaker 1: sometimes you have to something. Yes, people to follow you
- 40:26Speaker 1: to build your brand and your relationships. That's the world
- 40:29Speaker 1: you live into. Now you're you're the founder of the
- 40:32Speaker 1: Stocks and Stilato Society. What exactly is that? So it's
- 40:37Speaker 1: an online community of women investors. And I mean we've
- 40:41Speaker 1: got women in there who are at the very beginning
- 40:44Speaker 1: of their investing journey, haven't even bought their first stock.
- 40:48Speaker 1: We've got women who are in there with you know,
- 40:50Speaker 1: multimillion dollar portfolios. So there are black women in there
- 40:53Speaker 1: that run the gamut. And we really wanted to create
- 40:56Speaker 1: this space where women could really feel comfortable of out
- 41:00Speaker 1: talking about money, whether it would be questions like you know,
- 41:03Speaker 1: how do you even buy a stop too? You know,
- 41:06Speaker 1: I need to do tax loss harvesting, And so we
- 41:09Speaker 1: wanted to create that space where women who were well
- 41:13Speaker 1: seasoned and investing could also help and embrace the ones
- 41:17Speaker 1: who were coming up in this investing game. And I
- 41:20Speaker 1: think this community has done a great job of making
- 41:24Speaker 1: sure that we leave no system behind. Now when you
- 41:28Speaker 1: say one women investors, is that a is that a newsletter?
- 41:34Speaker 1: Is there a Facebook club? Where? Where are these? Where
- 41:38Speaker 1: are these? One hundred thousand women apologizes? So we have
- 41:42Speaker 1: currently we have about nineties six thousand in a Facebook
- 41:45Speaker 1: group that's yeah yeah, and then we have about eighteen
- 41:50Speaker 1: thousand on our Facebook page, and we have about forty
- 41:53Speaker 1: thousand on Instagram. And so collectively. When we look across
- 41:58Speaker 1: all of our social media of platforms are some huge numbers.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Now I'm just gonna let you know that you know,
- 42:05Speaker 1: this is this is this is uh six thousand in
- 42:09Speaker 1: your Facebook group, which is you know, if you watch Facebook,
- 42:12Speaker 1: there were a lot of commercials encouraging people to join groups,
- 42:15Speaker 1: you know, and then you also on your Facebook page
- 42:19Speaker 1: you have eighteen thousand. And then on Instagram you got
- 42:23Speaker 1: another forty thousand. Yeah. Now do y'all do uh retreats?
- 42:31Speaker 1: We do? We um what we do a signature event
- 42:34Speaker 1: called the Stocks to Star some in in Vegas every
- 42:38Speaker 1: year October six through the AID or the first weekend
- 42:41Speaker 1: in October, and it is a party unlike any other.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I mean, I've never seen a group of women come
- 42:47Speaker 1: together around the idea of investing and have so much fun.
- 42:52Speaker 1: And we learn from some of the top people in
- 42:55Speaker 1: the industry. So it's spokes and you know, I call
- 42:58Speaker 1: it entertainment. We come out, we have a good time,
- 43:01Speaker 1: we learned how to grow our money, and then we
- 43:03Speaker 1: get to business. We get down to business after we
- 43:05Speaker 1: leave there. Okay, now October six through the Okay, in
- 43:10Speaker 1: our in Vegas, what hotel y'all at we at the
- 43:14Speaker 1: Rin got one of the best buffets in Vegas. I'm
- 43:23Speaker 1: a buffet. I love buffaith I love Buffet's already hotel,
- 43:26Speaker 1: I got one of the best buffeties. I mean, you
- 43:28Speaker 1: go in there. They got it all up in there. Now,
- 43:33Speaker 1: I just wanted to test the tea. You're my only
- 43:35Speaker 1: thing with Cassandra comference. You know, I'm testing her. You know.
- 43:38Speaker 1: You know the people come on this show, you know
- 43:39Speaker 1: they throw our numbers all the time and act you know, well,
- 43:43Speaker 1: you know, I'm trying. Let'm trying. But she had just
- 43:45Speaker 1: she has just set me back. You know where were
- 43:47Speaker 1: showing six thousand. You can round up if you want to.
- 43:50Speaker 1: You you you got you know, mad that's apt either way.
- 43:53Speaker 1: You see anything above point five, you round up anyway.
- 43:56Speaker 1: That's okay, Na, Na that if you really if you
- 44:01Speaker 1: really think I'm front eighteen thousand sitting over there, okay,
- 44:04Speaker 1: if you really think in front of forty thousand sitting
- 44:06Speaker 1: over there, now, if you really think I'm front Vegas?
- 44:09Speaker 1: You know as a multi day event, you know Octolder
- 44:12Speaker 1: six through the Egg, you know at the Aria. You
- 44:15Speaker 1: know we're not off the beaten track with the Aria
- 44:19Speaker 1: you know when you going there, every everything is controlling
- 44:22Speaker 1: that hotel room by the phone, the phone controlled everything,
- 44:25Speaker 1: turn back through lives, every lives open, the front door,
- 44:29Speaker 1: back door, back and then lord of shade, everything in
- 44:31Speaker 1: the Aria. I know exactly when you're at Whoa, we
- 44:36Speaker 1: all on the strip, on the strip. I love it.
- 44:41Speaker 1: So how long have you have this? Uh? Does Stocks
- 44:44Speaker 1: and Stiletto Society been around? And when did this start? Uh? Well,
- 44:49Speaker 1: we've been around since two thousand and sixteen, so six years.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And it started after I left Morrow Lynch. Um. I
- 44:58Speaker 1: was talking with a friend and I was just dropping
- 45:01Speaker 1: names again, dropped her name again, she dropped the again.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Just see, I just love talking. She just drops his name.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I left Mary Lynch, you know, just left. I just
- 45:10Speaker 1: I had something to do. Oakland girl here. I just
- 45:12Speaker 1: started winning Live Floss and Eland a couple of weeks ago.
- 45:16Speaker 1: You know, I've been winning naturally I've been winning naturalizes,
- 45:25Speaker 1: so so I'm making money. Was over here absolutely so
- 45:29Speaker 1: so Meryl Lynch. And the reason the reason I bring
- 45:32Speaker 1: that up because of the fact that in order to
- 45:34Speaker 1: get respect, you have to be respectable brands. And when
- 45:38Speaker 1: you with respectable brands and you made the decision to
- 45:42Speaker 1: lead a respectable You have to have a goal. Now
- 45:45Speaker 1: that goal might not happen immediately, but you know that, Okay,
- 45:49Speaker 1: what they're doing doesn't fulfill me. There's a lot of
- 45:52Speaker 1: people watch my show, listen to my show, the trapped
- 45:56Speaker 1: in jobs because they're afraid to change, They're afraid of
- 46:00Speaker 1: the unknown. I'm pretty sure there was some fear tied
- 46:03Speaker 1: to this. How did you overcome that fear of the unknown? Concentral?
- 46:08Speaker 1: You know, I would have to say it had to
- 46:10Speaker 1: be my circle. You know. It was my circle that
- 46:13Speaker 1: was rooting for me. They were my cheerleaders. They were like,
- 46:16Speaker 1: you got this, sis, You're gonna do this. And I
- 46:19Speaker 1: had a very difficult time really finding my lane afterwards
- 46:23Speaker 1: because I had been trained to do things a certain way,
- 46:27Speaker 1: and so I had to unlearn those things and reprogram
- 46:30Speaker 1: myself to to really go out here and serve in
- 46:34Speaker 1: a different capacity. And so it took me about a
- 46:37Speaker 1: year to kind of catch my footing. But I did
- 46:40Speaker 1: have a conversation with one friend and she was like,
- 46:42Speaker 1: you need to start a Facebook group And I'm like,
- 46:44Speaker 1: what is that? You know, because we couldn't really be
- 46:46Speaker 1: on social media like that with the firm. And once
- 46:51Speaker 1: I opened up the Facebook group, I had about fifty
- 46:54Speaker 1: people and before I knew it, I had like five
- 46:57Speaker 1: thousand people and it just took off from there. That
- 47:00Speaker 1: is awesome. That's awesome. Now let's go back to the
- 47:03Speaker 1: Las Vegas event. Yeah, what what we're prompted that type
- 47:07Speaker 1: of retreat and you know we talked, we really didn't
- 47:11Speaker 1: go take Can you break down what happens on each
- 47:13Speaker 1: day or they're like seminars and speakers because I know
- 47:18Speaker 1: there's entertainment in Vegas. There's entertainment. What what is the
- 47:21Speaker 1: what is the takeaway from that type of event from
- 47:24Speaker 1: a standpoint of education? Yeah, so, um, we make sure
- 47:30Speaker 1: you get ex municated. Sure in a different realms of investing.
- 47:33Speaker 1: So Day one is our v I P Day. They
- 47:36Speaker 1: come out and they actually have two master classes. So
- 47:39Speaker 1: we have two amazing speakers come out and they both
- 47:43Speaker 1: teach our V I P ladies something. Um that's gonna
- 47:47Speaker 1: help propel them, right. And then when we get today too,
- 47:50Speaker 1: which is the general sessions, we basically have morning breakout
- 47:55Speaker 1: sessions and that's gonna be either between options or day trading,
- 48:00Speaker 1: and then we have afternoon breakout sessions, and that's gonna
- 48:03Speaker 1: be really centered around UM. Let me remember, UM, I
- 48:09Speaker 1: can't remember off the top of my head, but we
- 48:10Speaker 1: have to probably like crypto and something else right that
- 48:15Speaker 1: aside hustles, So crypto inside hustles. So morning we do
- 48:19Speaker 1: options and day trading. In the afternoon we do crypto
- 48:23Speaker 1: and UM side hustles. Then on the third day is
- 48:29Speaker 1: when we have our panels. So we have a real
- 48:31Speaker 1: estate panel, we have an angel investing panel, UM, we
- 48:35Speaker 1: have a entrepreneurship panel this year. UM, we talk about
- 48:39Speaker 1: a lot of things that help women take have some
- 48:43Speaker 1: takeaways that they can actually go and act on right away.
- 48:47Speaker 1: So we give them actionable gems. And it's not a
- 48:50Speaker 1: bunch of fluff. You know. I'm really big on, you know,
- 48:54Speaker 1: getting away from the ro ra rod and stuff like.
- 48:57Speaker 1: I want people to have things that they can't go
- 48:59Speaker 1: and put in the place when they leave this event.
- 49:02Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 49:06Speaker 1: with Rushan McDonald. Now let's return to Money Making Conversations
- 49:14Speaker 1: Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Let me tell you something, you know,
- 49:18Speaker 1: because I'm really impressed with you and not saying that
- 49:21Speaker 1: it wasn't impressed with you before you came on the show.
- 49:24Speaker 1: But you have a certain style. I think it's very um,
- 49:27Speaker 1: very comfortable. I think that's important, especially dealing with with
- 49:30Speaker 1: your money people money. You want to be comfortable on
- 49:32Speaker 1: somebody you're giving your money to. Don't any won't be
- 49:35Speaker 1: nervous across the table with anybody. Now Big coin and cryptocurrent,
- 49:44Speaker 1: Lord knows, the Black community keeps getting left behind because
- 49:47Speaker 1: we don't know, we don't trust you know, Lord, you
- 49:50Speaker 1: know we we just took our money out of the mattress,
- 49:53Speaker 1: you know, thirty years ago, Okay, and we're still in
- 49:57Speaker 1: black communities dealing with these check cash in places is
- 50:00Speaker 1: and don't know anything about apps, don't even know anything
- 50:03Speaker 1: about zel anything. Okay, this is true talk. Okay, I
- 50:08Speaker 1: want to I want to turn into a couple of
- 50:09Speaker 1: a couple of things into little snippets for you. Can
- 50:13Speaker 1: you talk to the black community by why they should
- 50:16Speaker 1: be involved with the bigcoin and then separately talk to
- 50:18Speaker 1: him about cryptocurrency. Well, bitcoin is definitely the granddaddy of cryptocurrency. Um,
- 50:25Speaker 1: it's been around, I believe about twenty years now. It's
- 50:29Speaker 1: been around for a long time. Twelve maybe twelve years,
- 50:33Speaker 1: and so you know, like I say, with bitcoin, it
- 50:37Speaker 1: takes time to get to a certain level of you know,
- 50:41Speaker 1: investment success with anything, right, you've got to have sort
- 50:44Speaker 1: of like this long term view, even with crypto. So
- 50:49Speaker 1: bitcoin has definitely gotten a lot of buzz, a lot
- 50:52Speaker 1: of media attention and things like that because it has
- 50:55Speaker 1: definitely come into its time, right, it's a forty something
- 50:59Speaker 1: that thousand. Now, if you want to buy bitcoint you
- 51:02Speaker 1: can still buy bitcoin. You don't have to buy a
- 51:05Speaker 1: full point. So if you want to put a thousand
- 51:07Speaker 1: dollars on bitcoin, five hundred dollars on big point, you can,
- 51:11Speaker 1: and you can still you know, make money off of that.
- 51:14Speaker 1: There are tons of all coins we call those are
- 51:17Speaker 1: all coins, and so those are your doge coins, your
- 51:20Speaker 1: Shiba coins and things like that that you can get
- 51:23Speaker 1: into that are really really inexpensive, and so you can
- 51:27Speaker 1: put in five hundred dollars and walk away with like,
- 51:30Speaker 1: you know, five hundred thousand shares of a coin by
- 51:35Speaker 1: investing in some of these all coins that may have
- 51:38Speaker 1: the potential to rise and increase as much as bitcoins.
- 51:42Speaker 1: So that's really what the game is now. People are
- 51:44Speaker 1: looking for the next bitcoin in cryptocurrency. Um. The other
- 51:50Speaker 1: thing too that's really big in crypto right now is
- 51:53Speaker 1: really investing in coins that are tied to the metaverse.
- 51:57Speaker 1: I was just talking to someone this morning about you know,
- 52:00Speaker 1: coins that are heavily involved in digital real estate in
- 52:04Speaker 1: the metaverse, and so a lot of people are starting
- 52:07Speaker 1: to allocate money and it could be a small amount
- 52:10Speaker 1: to some of these coins like Gala and the Central
- 52:13Speaker 1: Land and things like that that are heavily connected with
- 52:18Speaker 1: the metaverse and digital real estate. So there are really
- 52:21Speaker 1: good opportunities, especially for black people to get in with
- 52:25Speaker 1: very little money and you know, very little risk um
- 52:28Speaker 1: with crypto. So right, digital metaverse, none of that's real,
- 52:36Speaker 1: it's not really you know black people thought stock market
- 52:39Speaker 1: wasn't really at one point. Well, I know where I
- 52:42Speaker 1: be at, I know where the whole I can lose
- 52:46Speaker 1: some mon hole deepot, get mad at on deepot digital
- 52:50Speaker 1: real estate. Huh huh. And that's the part that we
- 52:54Speaker 1: have to cross that line over understanding the reality of
- 52:58Speaker 1: n f t s and you know the college athletes
- 53:03Speaker 1: learning about n els all these things. Uh, we're fast
- 53:08Speaker 1: moving into a society where education really may never catch
- 53:12Speaker 1: up with us. So it means that the ability to
- 53:15Speaker 1: be a participant may never be an opportunity. And so
- 53:20Speaker 1: bringing you on my show at least helps us understand
- 53:24Speaker 1: that there are people like us. There's a community of
- 53:27Speaker 1: women out there who don't want to be average, who
- 53:30Speaker 1: don't want to be left in the back, who want
- 53:32Speaker 1: to be able to say, how can I be a
- 53:34Speaker 1: party of this? Now, you have a little program called
- 53:37Speaker 1: Build a Bag of Wealth. I think that's the best
- 53:40Speaker 1: way to close up with you and this interview. But
- 53:42Speaker 1: also I have a show. I do my show live
- 53:45Speaker 1: on Tuesdays on w CLK Campus. I take phone calls.
- 53:49Speaker 1: I love to invite you on my live show. It
- 53:51Speaker 1: also plays back on my national platform. But you are
- 53:54Speaker 1: so engaging. And whenem I bring an investor on somebody
- 53:57Speaker 1: talking about stock, the phone light up and that's I
- 54:00Speaker 1: know these black folks want to know how to make
- 54:02Speaker 1: some money. I mean, I could bring on celebrities, no calls,
- 54:06Speaker 1: I bring on somebody talking about stock home they find
- 54:09Speaker 1: their way to that phone. So I know there's education
- 54:12Speaker 1: that they want, but the opportunity to participate they're being
- 54:17Speaker 1: left out of. So talk about your build a Bag
- 54:20Speaker 1: of wealth. Yeah. So Build a Bag is a program
- 54:24Speaker 1: that um I came up with to teach women and men.
- 54:28Speaker 1: It's actually open to everyone. Um how to trade options.
- 54:32Speaker 1: And options are contracts um to buy stocks. You're not
- 54:37Speaker 1: obligated to buy them, but oftentimes, you know, we don't
- 54:40Speaker 1: have a lot of money to get into the stock
- 54:42Speaker 1: market to buy the Amazon's, to buy the Google's because
- 54:46Speaker 1: they're just really priced, you know, extremely high. But if
- 54:50Speaker 1: you learn how to trade contracts, you can still make
- 54:53Speaker 1: money off of Amazon or IBM or home Depot what
- 54:57Speaker 1: have you, with very little money. And so we have
- 55:01Speaker 1: designed this program called Build a Bag where we show
- 55:04Speaker 1: people how to go from five hundred dollars to five
- 55:07Speaker 1: thousand dollars and typically about a month and a half
- 55:10Speaker 1: to two months. See see see I am about talking
- 55:18Speaker 1: about staff. So we should have started out with that
- 55:19Speaker 1: conversation five the five dollars. You know, some we're gonna
- 55:26Speaker 1: book you on my show My Money makes Mother Master clap,
- 55:29Speaker 1: I'm firing some people off the show to bring you
- 55:32Speaker 1: on this. Okay, they need to know how to trade options.
- 55:36Speaker 1: They need to here. Okay, we're gonna start off with
- 55:38Speaker 1: the five hundred dollars to five thousand dollars in the market.
- 55:42Speaker 1: That conversation though immediately, but you've been fantastic. I thoroughly
- 55:46Speaker 1: enjoyed it. I'm glad you contact me. I'm glad we
- 55:49Speaker 1: contacted you. It was it was a synergy. My people
- 55:52Speaker 1: were reaching out to you and you naturally reach it
- 55:53Speaker 1: out to me. Know that you'll be hearing from me again.
- 55:56Speaker 1: I want to bring you on my live show. It's
- 55:58Speaker 1: just like, this's a very fun nbr airs on a
- 56:01Speaker 1: lot of twenty HBCU campuses in seven one stations nationwide
- 56:05Speaker 1: with the number one week and showing black radio in America.
- 56:08Speaker 1: But more importantly, you are number one in my financial heart. Okay,
- 56:11Speaker 1: we're gonna we're gonna win together here girl, five hundred
- 56:14Speaker 1: dollars of five thousand ballots of the month. I'm looking
- 56:17Speaker 1: forward to it. I appreciate you. Thank you for coming
- 56:19Speaker 1: on Money Making Conversation master Class. Thank you. If you
- 56:23Speaker 1: want to see or here into my interviews, please go
- 56:25Speaker 1: to money Making Conversation dot com. I'm Rashan McDonald. I
- 56:29Speaker 1: am your host. You've been listening to Money Making Conversations
