- 0:00A thinking today of 2nd Peter chapter 1 verse 4. 2nd Peter chapter 1 verse 4.
- 0:07We looked at verse 3 last time. And verse 3 ends with, by His own glory and
- 0:13goodness. Then verse 4 it says, through these He has given us His very great and
- 0:20precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the Divine nature,
- 0:26having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. I guess we
- 0:33got to work this verse backwards a little bit to understand it really
- 0:35clearly. Where it says, corruption in the world caused by evil desires, we're
- 0:39talking about the things that men want, the things that men do that do not honor
- 0:43God, that are in contrast to the goodness of God. God has a plan for each one of
- 0:49us and He's trying to make us out to be the best version of ourselves, far above
- 0:53anything we could hope, dream, or imagine. But the world settles in at a place of
- 0:59corruption and that all arises out of their evil desires. Remember that God had
- 1:06called us by His own glory and goodness and through these now He has given us
- 1:11this absolutely wonderful set of promises of what He's going to do in us,
- 1:16what He's going to accomplish in the long run. And even that all of the bad
- 1:20things that we are going through will work out for our good eventually, if only
- 1:25in that we will be able to comfort others with the comfort that we are
- 1:28comforted. Basically, through these great promises we can participate in the
- 1:35Divine nature. God is so good to make us over when we're willing into His image,
- 1:43into the image of Christ and the image of God. Praise the Lord, we're on our way.
