Latest / The Ben Ferguson Podcast / BREAKING: McCarthy Closes In on Speakership
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So there's a deal that's closed. A lot changed. Friday,
- 0:05Speaker 1: McCarthy came out and said, today is gonna blow your mind.
- 0:09Speaker 1: It's gonna be a lot of big news to be made.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Things are changing, things are moving. That is exactly what happened.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Joining me now to talk about this is now. I
- 0:21Speaker 1: feel like we're best friends. Carry Pigott, Senior congressional reporter.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Watching in Times Carrie this morning, you could see that
- 0:29Speaker 1: Kevin McCarthy had some hope I think in his eyes
- 0:32Speaker 1: he walked through it was a lot different demeanor than yesterday.
- 0:36Speaker 1: He said that today was gonna be shocking for many,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and then that vote happened, and a lot of the
- 0:42Speaker 1: people that were in that group of twenty that were
- 0:45Speaker 1: holding out switched. Walk us through this, that's right. So
- 0:50Speaker 1: we have now about I think I'm on fifteen holdouts
- 0:59Speaker 1: who basically came on over to McCarthy's side. These included
- 1:04Speaker 1: Chip Roy, for example, who led these former holdouts. He
- 1:10Speaker 1: was the lead negotiator who along with h Byron Donalds
- 1:16Speaker 1: Uh he was also co negotiating with Chip Roy talking
- 1:20Speaker 1: to the pro McCarthy faction, UH basically kind of representing
- 1:26Speaker 1: this group, UH, telling them like what they were looking
- 1:30Speaker 1: for in order to bring this big group over so
- 1:34Speaker 1: the so basically the whole strategy here late last night
- 1:38Speaker 1: was for uh McCarthy and company to shake loose the
- 1:45Speaker 1: you know, ginormous faction and bring them over to his
- 1:49Speaker 1: side and then deal with the tinier faction, uh, which
- 1:53Speaker 1: we are seeing right now, which is about six people
- 1:57Speaker 1: uh and so like and and that's where we are today.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And let's talk about these six people because they're gonna
- 2:03Speaker 1: reconvene Friday night at ten o'clock Eastern time. Why was
- 2:08Speaker 1: that time picked? Is that how long they thought they
- 2:12Speaker 1: needed to probably get with these six and figure out
- 2:14Speaker 1: what they can do, because look, it may I mean,
- 2:17Speaker 1: this is a significant gain overnight, flipping fourteen of these
- 2:21Speaker 1: basically twenty one Republican holdouts. One of them was basically
- 2:24Speaker 1: not voting, just present in the twelfth round of voting.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He got two thirteen. That's a good number for him.
- 2:31Speaker 1: The Democratic leader received twenty eleven Kim Jefferies, and then
- 2:36Speaker 1: you had these seven Republicans but for another kennet and
- 2:38Speaker 1: three members were absent. Now there's also an X factor
- 2:42Speaker 1: here with these absent Explain what happens because apparently one
- 2:46Speaker 1: of those it was absent is flying back for the
- 2:48Speaker 1: vote tonight. Is that part of the reason why they
- 2:50Speaker 1: picked so late. That's right. Yeah, like Wesley Hunt who
- 2:56Speaker 1: wasn't available. There was also ye Can Buck who wasn't available.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So they need to be on the floor in order
- 3:06Speaker 1: to to to a vote. So once we get these
- 3:09Speaker 1: two Republican members to come to the floor, that's going
- 3:12Speaker 1: to make a a a big difference. And uh, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 1: now they have to deal with these a holdouts though.
- 3:21Speaker 1: They need to at least flip two of them and
- 3:24Speaker 1: then the others. Uh. You know, this is an issue
- 3:28Speaker 1: of getting at least three of them to maybe vote
- 3:31Speaker 1: present if if a McCarthy is just to uh to
- 3:36Speaker 1: rotten for for them to even uh you know, come
- 3:40Speaker 1: around to vote for But you know, this is an
- 3:43Speaker 1: issue for them to uh say, look, if you guys
- 3:46Speaker 1: don't want to vote for him, they just vote present. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and uh, but this is but they need to flip
- 3:53Speaker 1: at least two of them who are the most likely
- 3:56Speaker 1: to be flipped in these two. If you're looking at
- 4:00Speaker 1: this list of seven, uh and you're saying, all right,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I got these seven Republicans, I need two of them.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Uh to be flipped. Where do you start on that list?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Which ones you think are the are the most likely.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I'm going to throw this out there based on some
- 4:14Speaker 1: conversations that I've had with some different members over the
- 4:18Speaker 1: last hour and a half, there are actually several that
- 4:20Speaker 1: think they believe Bobert could be one of those. I
- 4:24Speaker 1: think Bobert definitely could be one of those. She is
- 4:27Speaker 1: one of the newest. She she was a you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: this is going to be her sophomore term, and she's
- 4:34Speaker 1: someone who is extraordinarily ambitious. She is looking to, you know, saying, hey,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I want to you know, I would love to at
- 4:47Speaker 1: least get some sort of you know, subcommittee chairmanship at
- 4:51Speaker 1: some point. I'd love to get myself somewhere important. And uh,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, you can you can tell that she wants
- 5:00Speaker 1: to go places. And if she ends up putting herself
- 5:05Speaker 1: into a bad spot, that could you know, this can
- 5:09Speaker 1: only go on for so long for her. Well, let's
- 5:12Speaker 1: talk about the people I think that you'll never get.
- 5:14Speaker 1: One of those is Matt Gates. Is there could there
- 5:17Speaker 1: be movement with Andy Biggs? Could there be movement with
- 5:19Speaker 1: representing Matt Rosindell, Could there be movement represent Bob Good
- 5:23Speaker 1: or is he in the I've heard from several that
- 5:25Speaker 1: Gates and Good are two of the guys that probably
- 5:27Speaker 1: will never move. I think Gates and Good are probably
- 5:31Speaker 1: never going to move. But elike Crane, he is a
- 5:38Speaker 1: new member, and I would I'd be surprised that as
- 5:43Speaker 1: a freshman. You know, it would be very bizarre if
- 5:50Speaker 1: your very first week in office that you are going
- 5:56Speaker 1: to pretty much say I'm going to just hold my
- 5:58Speaker 1: breath and not vote for the guy who is going
- 6:03Speaker 1: to be directing things around here. But what was the
- 6:07Speaker 1: what was the deal? How did so many of these
- 6:09Speaker 1: get changed so quick? And my guest with me UH
- 6:13Speaker 1: is a new best friend of the show, UH, Karry Pigott,
- 6:16Speaker 1: Senior congressional correspondent for the Washington Times. What was the
- 6:21Speaker 1: big change that happened last night? What is this deal?
- 6:25Speaker 1: And who gets what? Okay, I want to move. I
- 6:29Speaker 1: want to be very clear here, UM, as far as
- 6:32Speaker 1: you know the fact that a lot of interesting things,
- 6:35Speaker 1: a lot of UH things have have have that changed
- 6:39Speaker 1: as a result of these twenty holdouts. UH have really
- 6:45Speaker 1: made some big changes, including getting UM more conservatives onto
- 6:51Speaker 1: the Rules Committee. Okay, um, Because now why is that important?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Because anytime you have you know, members over on the
- 7:02Speaker 1: House side who end up going to a go vote,
- 7:05Speaker 1: they first have to have members of the Rules Committee
- 7:09Speaker 1: layout whether or not there's going to be votes on amendments,
- 7:14Speaker 1: or whether or not there's going to be open amendments,
- 7:16Speaker 1: whether or not there's going to be like the Rules
- 7:18Speaker 1: Committee basically lays out what they're going to be voting on, okay,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and that's a very very powerful committee. People don't realize
- 7:26Speaker 1: how powerful the Rules Committee is, and very often, if ever,
- 7:30Speaker 1: they don't have, you know, very many conservatives on that committee.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So then not having like an open amendment process, people
- 7:39Speaker 1: can't call from them, its from from the floor, and
- 7:42Speaker 1: so conservatives very often get like kind of blocked out
- 7:45Speaker 1: from that committee or there's not many conservatives on that committee.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And so now there's going to be at least three
- 7:53Speaker 1: seats for Freedom Caucus members on that committee. And that's
- 7:57Speaker 1: a big deal. So for all the name calling and
- 8:02Speaker 1: like insults that these holdouts sort of put up with,
- 8:05Speaker 1: being called terrorists, which which I thought was kind of
- 8:07Speaker 1: stupid and really bad, or calling them, yeah, that may
- 8:11Speaker 1: have been one of the dumbest lines in the history
- 8:13Speaker 1: of Dan Crenshaw's career. It was to call people of
- 8:17Speaker 1: his own party terrorists that way he and that was
- 8:20Speaker 1: I think and also really dumb move for Ken McCarthy
- 8:23Speaker 1: to be using him as basically a saragate out there
- 8:25Speaker 1: every day on TV, and that was the messaging. I
- 8:28Speaker 1: think there's going to be hell to pay down the
- 8:30Speaker 1: road for that. Yeah. Absolutely, it's like, you know what,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you can criticize him saying, hey, guys, come on, you're
- 8:36Speaker 1: holding things up. This isn't right. But okay, fine, I
- 8:39Speaker 1: get that, but you know what, to be calling them
- 8:41Speaker 1: terrorists or be calling them blackmailers, I don't think that
- 8:45Speaker 1: was right. Let's talk about these appropriations, earmarks, these types
- 8:49Speaker 1: of things. This is real money that is spent, taxpayer
- 8:53Speaker 1: dollars spent that turns into trillion dollars deficits that now
- 8:57Speaker 1: Republicans will have a lot more control roll over. That's right. Um.
- 9:03Speaker 1: One of the things that Republicans want to, uh kind
- 9:08Speaker 1: of reverse is they want to start the banning earmarks again.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I don't know exactly how they're going to do this,
- 9:17Speaker 1: but you know, just to remind everyone in earmark, it's
- 9:20Speaker 1: a provision that's inserted into discretionaries. Spending on these on
- 9:25Speaker 1: these appropriation bills just directs funds into into specific bills
- 9:32Speaker 1: while they it kind of circumvents the whole merit based
- 9:36Speaker 1: or competitive funds allocation process. So it's just pork barrel
- 9:41Speaker 1: spending is what it is. Okay. Uh. It's so like, uh,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you have lawmakers can pretty much have like all this
- 9:50Speaker 1: funding into their pet projects and they can say, hey,
- 9:54Speaker 1: look at this, we just built a community center just
- 9:58Speaker 1: for you see, and it happens to have my name
- 10:02Speaker 1: on it, right, I mean that's that welcome to the Yeah, exactly.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And but ultimately though, um, I mean the the the
- 10:12Speaker 1: Democrats brought it back, but they like capped it at
- 10:15Speaker 1: like a certain I mean like they like brought it
- 10:18Speaker 1: back in like another way. But uh and they banned it,
- 10:22Speaker 1: uh and a ban for like ten years with the
- 10:25Speaker 1: Democrats brought it fact like like two years ago, I
- 10:27Speaker 1: think it was. They don't have the the the the
- 10:29Speaker 1: exact number, but the Republicans want to ban it again. Um,
- 10:34Speaker 1: and so there's been some fight over exactly how to
- 10:36Speaker 1: do it. But apparently they uh there's been some talk
- 10:40Speaker 1: about that. Uh, the appropriations process. I don't have the
- 10:45Speaker 1: exact details on how they're doing that, but one thing
- 10:48Speaker 1: they want to do is to make sure that it's
- 10:50Speaker 1: done under regular order. Now there's been something fight then,
- 10:54Speaker 1: um between Republicans and Democrats over Oh no, there's always
- 10:58Speaker 1: been regular order. What is regular order it? Uh? They
- 11:02Speaker 1: want to make sure that every bill is put through
- 11:06Speaker 1: is to put through the committee process and everything is
- 11:09Speaker 1: marked up properly, that the appropriations process is actually done properly,
- 11:14Speaker 1: that it's actually put through the committee process, that it's
- 11:17Speaker 1: not just brought to the to the for like two
- 11:19Speaker 1: hours like like like before the vote. Basically, we were
- 11:24Speaker 1: trying to get rid of the we don't know it's
- 11:26Speaker 1: in the bill until after we passed the bill type
- 11:28Speaker 1: of governance, which is exactly what we've been having exactly.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And uh, have they achieved that well, you know, uh,
- 11:38Speaker 1: apparently it appears that way. But once again we don't
- 11:42Speaker 1: have the details just it because they have been very
- 11:44Speaker 1: coy about it. Kevin McCarthy did come out. This was
- 11:48Speaker 1: something that he said moments ago, very optimistic sounding. Uh.
- 11:53Speaker 1: This is again after they adjourn until this evening. I
- 11:56Speaker 1: want you to hear Kevin McCarthy in his own words,
- 12:00Speaker 1: how um, I thank you. So we've made some very
- 12:03Speaker 1: good progress. We'll come back tonight. I believe at that
- 12:06Speaker 1: time we'll have the votes to finish this once and
- 12:08Speaker 1: for all. It just reminds me of what my father
- 12:11Speaker 1: always told me. It's not how you start, it's how
- 12:13Speaker 1: you finish. And now we have to finish for the
- 12:15Speaker 1: American public. What was it a turnaround? What was the
- 12:18Speaker 1: breaking point in these negotiations? I think getting together and
- 12:23Speaker 1: just finding the ability to how we're all going to
- 12:26Speaker 1: work together. It's it's new for us one being in
- 12:28Speaker 1: the majority, but being in a tight majority. I think
- 12:31Speaker 1: at the end of the day, we're going to be
- 12:32Speaker 1: more effective, more efficient and a definitely a government's going
- 12:36Speaker 1: to be more caultable. How worried are you see this?
- 12:44Speaker 1: This is a great part because it took this long.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Now we learned how to govern, so now we'll be
- 12:50Speaker 1: able to get the job done. Thank you all very
- 12:51Speaker 1: much for you later. I do believe there could be
- 12:54Speaker 1: some truth to that that he just said. I mean,
- 12:57Speaker 1: this is this was a real chap changing. I would
- 13:01Speaker 1: at least say the next for the next probably six
- 13:03Speaker 1: months of how Washington's going to work on the House side.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And and it's also I think a shot across the
- 13:10Speaker 1: bout of the establishment and the rhinos and kind of
- 13:13Speaker 1: the swamp that with these new members, we're not gonna
- 13:17Speaker 1: We're willing to go nuclear if you try to run
- 13:20Speaker 1: over us. Exactly, you are exactly right. Then this had
- 13:26Speaker 1: a lot to do with the whole spending issue, with
- 13:31Speaker 1: the whole you know, how things have been done for
- 13:36Speaker 1: years and years and years in Washington. Maya colleague, Charlie Hurt,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you pointed this out previously that the reason why a
- 13:45Speaker 1: lot of lawmakers and a lot of the lobbyists as well,
- 13:49Speaker 1: we're so angry with these twenty was because they could
- 13:53Speaker 1: see that they were making demands that we're going to
- 13:56Speaker 1: shake things up and start trimming things down, and they
- 14:00Speaker 1: didn't like that. You know, one of the things I
- 14:02Speaker 1: was talking earlier was Center Ted Cruz and we were
- 14:05Speaker 1: we were talking about how much money this last several
- 14:09Speaker 1: days could actually save the American people, and it is.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It could be massive, the amount of money that could
- 14:17Speaker 1: be saved just by having this type of order. Absolutely absolutely,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and once again for they were being insulted. They were
- 14:29Speaker 1: being insulted for it. You know they're being called, you know,
- 14:32Speaker 1: just horrible names for it, and in the end, uh,
- 14:36Speaker 1: people are going to thank them for holding out. Yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 1: it's gonna be very big. All right, let's talk about
- 14:42Speaker 1: these names lastly. When we go into this vote, you've
- 14:46Speaker 1: got to have two different votes that can team up
- 14:50Speaker 1: with McCarthy or switch. These are your again, you go
- 14:53Speaker 1: with Bobert, Biggs, Crane, Gates, Good, Uh, Rosendale. Which one
- 14:58Speaker 1: of these two are your guts? If you had to
- 15:00Speaker 1: guess right now, would be the ones at Switch. I
- 15:03Speaker 1: think it's gonna be Bobert and Crane, and I think
- 15:10Speaker 1: eventually Rosendille. It's so funny. You and I totally agree
- 15:15Speaker 1: on this one, and I think Bobert's gonna shock a
- 15:17Speaker 1: lot of people. But I think she's pretty smart now
- 15:20Speaker 1: and realizes, okay, that the holdout ship is about to sink.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You can either be the bravest captain of all and
- 15:27Speaker 1: walk away with this massive victory and jump onto a
- 15:30Speaker 1: bigger boat, or you can go to that with his ship.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And what's the point of doing that at this point
- 15:35Speaker 1: since so much has been done and changed. I just
- 15:38Speaker 1: think I hope that she's smart enough to realize that
- 15:41Speaker 1: she's very close with Matt Gates, and you got to
- 15:44Speaker 1: wonder how much influence Matt's gonna have over her, right right,
- 15:48Speaker 1: Because here's the thing, Gates has already made a brand
- 15:51Speaker 1: name for himself. Okay, he's already kind of set himself up.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Bobert is kind of just Boars kind of just started out.
- 16:03Speaker 1: You see. Sure, here's something else too. Gates won his
- 16:07Speaker 1: reelection by a huge, huge margin. She didn't. Yeah, she barely.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I mean we're talking a hundred plus votes. Yeah, Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 1: she did not win her election by very much. Gates
- 16:20Speaker 1: doesn't have to worry about his reelection, does she does.
- 16:24Speaker 1: She's in a very different district, She's in a different state,
- 16:27Speaker 1: ones from Florida, once from Colorado, And at one point
- 16:32Speaker 1: during that race, they had actually called it for her
- 16:34Speaker 1: opponent that she had lost. Then they moved it back
- 16:37Speaker 1: to too close to call, and then she ended up
- 16:39Speaker 1: winning that race barely. So you would think that would
- 16:43Speaker 1: wake up to this. Her political reality is very different
- 16:46Speaker 1: than Matt Gates. Is there. What's going to happen to
- 16:50Speaker 1: people at Gates in your opinion quickly after all this
- 16:54Speaker 1: is done. I mean, he doesn't budge maybe some of
- 16:57Speaker 1: these others don't budge. What does it look like for them?
- 17:00Speaker 1: I think Gates is going to be just fine. Um, seriously, Look,
- 17:05Speaker 1: there's always going to be thorns in the side of
- 17:07Speaker 1: the speaker. Okay. There will always be lawmakers like Matt
- 17:14Speaker 1: Gates who are always going to be, you know, throwing
- 17:18Speaker 1: spears at the speaker, and so be it. That's how
- 17:22Speaker 1: it goes. We are, you know, this is the representative
- 17:26Speaker 1: republic that we live in, and uh and uh and
- 17:30Speaker 1: then and that's why we are who we are. It's
- 17:34Speaker 1: gonna be it's gonna be very interesting to watch. I
- 17:36Speaker 1: appreciate your time. Thank you again. Tell everybody where they
- 17:39Speaker 1: can find you on Twitter, find me on Twitter, Kerry Ticket,
- 17:42Speaker 1: k R y T I c k E Teach. She'll
- 17:45Speaker 1: be tweeting. I can promise you during the votes carry
- 17:47Speaker 1: thank you as always. Fourteen House GOP members have flipped
- 17:52Speaker 1: to support Kevin McCarthy in the twelfth speaker vote. To MSNBC,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I love playing the crazies. They put it this way
- 18:00Speaker 1: right after it happened. This extremely high stakes, almost heart
- 18:04Speaker 1: stopping drama continues to unfold on the House floor as
- 18:07Speaker 1: Kevin McCarthy did manage to flip fourteen previous no votes,
- 18:12Speaker 1: but again on the twelfth ballot, failed to lock down
- 18:17Speaker 1: the speakership. I want to go back to Steve Cornaki
- 18:20Speaker 1: at the big board because Steve, there is an adjustment
- 18:23Speaker 1: to be made in the numbers that is important as
- 18:26Speaker 1: we look at the rest of the day. Yeah, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: as our ally Vitalion was reminding us off the year.
- 18:30Speaker 1: For the first time, there's and you can see it
- 18:33Speaker 1: in that scoreboard. They're noticed that Hakim Jeffries finished with
- 18:36Speaker 1: two hundred eleven votes. He's been getting two hundred twelve
- 18:39Speaker 1: on all previous ballots. That's because for the first time,
- 18:42Speaker 1: Democrats didn't have perfect attendance. David Trone of Maryland was
- 18:46Speaker 1: not there. He's not in the chamber. We already know
- 18:49Speaker 1: there's two Republican absences as well. And remember there is
- 18:52Speaker 1: a vacant House seat. So what that means is that
- 18:54Speaker 1: you have four hundred niget this pen goat. You have
- 18:58Speaker 1: four hundred thirty one votes that were cast in this
- 19:01Speaker 1: speakers racing. You need fifty percent plus one to become speakers.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So that sets a magic number. With this Constitution of
- 19:09Speaker 1: the House, that sets a magic number of two hundred
- 19:11Speaker 1: and sixteen. Okay, two hundred and sixteen, and Kevin McCarthy's
- 19:16Speaker 1: finishing here with two hundred and thirteen on this ballot.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So we've been saying four. What he needs three Three
- 19:25Speaker 1: of the seven remaining holdouts he needs to flip over
- 19:29Speaker 1: and win over if he can get them, he gets
- 19:32Speaker 1: to two sixteen. So again he needs three from Andy Biggs,
- 19:37Speaker 1: Lauren Bober, Eli Crane, Matt Gates, Bob Good, Andy Harris,
- 19:44Speaker 1: Matt Rosendale. That's the list he's operating under here. He
- 19:48Speaker 1: needs three of them to flip and he can hit
- 19:51Speaker 1: that magic number. That's all he needs. He just needs
- 19:55Speaker 1: to flip those any one of those or two of those,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I should say. Now, there's also an X factor here
- 20:01Speaker 1: on if people are not present, so you understand that
- 20:06Speaker 1: we are also this is again some new news that
- 20:09Speaker 1: we're getting right now from the GOP leader McCarthy's offer
- 20:13Speaker 1: to GOP holdouts. As this House, Republicans will adopt a
- 20:19Speaker 1: physical year twenty four budget resolution that balances in ten years,
- 20:26Speaker 1: including long term reforms to budget process and mandatory spending programs.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It would also cap the fiscal year twenty four discretionary
- 20:35Speaker 1: spending at enacted twenty two levels or lower. Quote. We
- 20:40Speaker 1: will reject any negotiations with a Senate unless until they
- 20:44Speaker 1: pass appropriations bills of their own, and will reject any
- 20:47Speaker 1: Senate pass appropriations bills that do not comply with a
- 20:51Speaker 1: House pass budget resolution and reduce non defense discretionary spending.
- 20:57Speaker 1: We will not agree quote to a debt limit increase
- 21:01Speaker 1: absent a discretionary budget budgetary agreement and i with a
- 21:06Speaker 1: House pass budget resolution or other fiscal reforms to reduce
- 21:12Speaker 1: and cap the growth of spending. Also prohibit consideration of
- 21:18Speaker 1: any bill that has the net effect of increasing direct
- 21:22Speaker 1: spending without greater or equal offsets, and create a new
- 21:27Speaker 1: floor point of order against unauthorized appropriations in a general
- 21:32Speaker 1: appropriations bill and access of the most recent levels in acted.
- 21:38Speaker 1: This is big. These are these are what we were
- 21:43Speaker 1: fighting for over the last several days. This is going
- 21:46Speaker 1: to say this country billions upon billions upon billions of dollars.
- 21:53Speaker 1: This is massive. This is if you're a taxpayer, you
- 21:58Speaker 1: should love what I just told you. I mean, this
- 22:03Speaker 1: is a this is a no brainer here for success.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It is it is a exactly what went many people
- 22:15Speaker 1: had said they were gonna do. They were gonna hold out.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Chip Roy's a great example of this. Chip said, I'm
- 22:21Speaker 1: gonna hold out until we get a deal that is
- 22:25Speaker 1: good for the American people when it comes to spending.
- 22:28Speaker 1: These who vote against him again, he's got to flip
- 22:31Speaker 1: a couple of these. He's got to flip either Andy Biggs,
- 22:35Speaker 1: Matt Gates, Lauren Boebert representative of Matt Rosendal, Bob Good,
- 22:39Speaker 1: Andy Harris, or Eli Crane. Abstaining during the vote included
- 22:44Speaker 1: Representatives David Throm Democrat from Maryland, Kin Buck, Republican Colorado,
- 22:48Speaker 1: and Wesley Hunt, Republican from Texas. Hunt flew back to
- 22:51Speaker 1: Texas today to be with his family after announced a
- 22:54Speaker 1: few days ago that he and his wife had just
- 22:55Speaker 1: had a baby who was born prematurely. Absences effect the
- 23:00Speaker 1: overall total needed to win, and depending on who is
- 23:04Speaker 1: absent in the coming votes, which are expected to continue
- 23:06Speaker 1: tonight ten o'clock Eastern and could go through the weekend
- 23:10Speaker 1: and next week, McCarthy may only need a couple more
- 23:13Speaker 1: Republicans to flip their vote to reach the majority the
- 23:18Speaker 1: requisite majority and clinched the speakership. Now one of those
- 23:23Speaker 1: who flipped Donalds, who asked if he was confident McCarthy
- 23:27Speaker 1: would become speaker, and Donald replied, yes, I am. To
- 23:31Speaker 1: ABC News, just a moment ago, Representive Scott Perry tweeted out,
- 23:36Speaker 1: we're at a turning point of negotiating good faith with
- 23:39Speaker 1: one purpose to restore the People's House back to its
- 23:43Speaker 1: rightful owners. The framework for an agreement is in place.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So in a good faith effort, I vote to restore
- 23:49Speaker 1: the People's House by voting for GOP leader McCarthy. So
- 23:54Speaker 1: this is significant movement that we're witnessing right now. You
- 23:58Speaker 1: could hear it in the way the mnbc's reporting it,
- 24:01Speaker 1: see it in the same way. They're not excited, by
- 24:04Speaker 1: the way about this happening. They wanted this to turn
- 24:07Speaker 1: into total chaos. They're also, by the way, angry that
- 24:11Speaker 1: we're not covering the other story they're obsessed with, and
- 24:14Speaker 1: that is January the six. January six is if you
- 24:18Speaker 1: look at your calendars today, now, it doesn't seem significant
- 24:21Speaker 1: like nine to eleven, because it shouldn't be significant like
- 24:24Speaker 1: nine to eleven. But the Democrats wanted to still take
- 24:27Speaker 1: a moment. Today. They had a press conference, the President
- 24:30Speaker 1: talked about it, and this is what they said about
- 24:32Speaker 1: this on CNN while they were counting votes on the
- 24:36Speaker 1: thirteenth ballot. McCarthy, you know, on the thirteenth ballot, right
- 24:42Speaker 1: flipping these people. And instead of doing that and telling
- 24:46Speaker 1: you who's flipping, CNN had this to say, with the
- 24:49Speaker 1: propaganda a somber or split screen today, we're gonna go
- 24:55Speaker 1: right now to show what's going on on the floor.
- 24:59Speaker 1: And and of course on the other side, on your
- 25:03Speaker 1: right of the screen, chaos is going on. And then
- 25:10Speaker 1: that is handcuffing. That chaos is handcuffing Congress Republicans sputtering
- 25:14Speaker 1: towards maybe or maybe not electing House speaker on the
- 25:17Speaker 1: left side of your screen. This is a moment marking
- 25:21Speaker 1: the anniversary of a day that threatened to end the
- 25:24Speaker 1: American experiment. In many ways, President Biden is paying tribute
- 25:28Speaker 1: to those who put their lives on the line as
- 25:31Speaker 1: the mob invaded the US capital and honoring individuals who
- 25:37Speaker 1: did everything they could to maintain the integrity of the election.
- 25:42Speaker 1: President Biden is going to be speaking shortly, and we
- 25:46Speaker 1: will bring that to you live when that happens. This
- 25:51Speaker 1: part it really does make me laugh. You can hear it.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They want this to be a nine to eleven moment,
- 26:00Speaker 1: but they just don't know how to get it there right,
- 26:02Speaker 1: like they want it so badly to be a nine
- 26:05Speaker 1: to eleven type Memorial Day January the six where they
- 26:09Speaker 1: act like the America experience almost was just uh, you
- 26:13Speaker 1: know it was it was almost taken from us. It
- 26:17Speaker 1: was not almost taken from us. Those on January the
- 26:20Speaker 1: six who were there, who were idiots, deserved to go
- 26:22Speaker 1: to jail for what they did. But this was not
- 26:25Speaker 1: a moment that threatened our democracy. Our democracy isn't that
- 26:30Speaker 1: fragile where people that decide to overrun without weapons. All right,
- 26:35Speaker 1: let's be clear. The capital in this spontaneous, you know,
- 26:43Speaker 1: horrific event, yes, but to act like America's just teetering
- 26:47Speaker 1: that way is absurd. I mean, look at the civil
- 26:51Speaker 1: war that's just broken out in Mexico between the drug
- 26:54Speaker 1: cartels and the government, and they're not even claiming it's
- 26:57Speaker 1: teetering down there yet and they're actually attacking and taking
- 27:01Speaker 1: people hostage and kidnapping people. So this idea that lasts,
- 27:07Speaker 1: you know, on January the sixth, that the whole entire
- 27:11Speaker 1: United States of America was about to cease to exist
- 27:14Speaker 1: the way that they're saying this on TV. They just
- 27:16Speaker 1: look like they're idiots when they say it this way.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I mean, you know, that's what it is. Sonny hostin
- 27:25Speaker 1: on the View blame the DOJ for the Speaker Gridlock,
- 27:28Speaker 1: saying we need to actually arrest the holdouts for January
- 27:32Speaker 1: the six. Trying to connect the two on the View,
- 27:37Speaker 1: Sonny host and blame the Department of Justice for the
- 27:39Speaker 1: Speaker gridlock and said we need to arrest the holdouts
- 27:44Speaker 1: for January the six. Not a joke. Listen to this,
- 27:48Speaker 1: But I gotta say, I think the reason that these
- 27:50Speaker 1: election deniers that are still in Congress are holding their
- 27:55Speaker 1: party hostage is because there has been no accountability for
- 27:58Speaker 1: January sixth. I think that is why they have the
- 28:02Speaker 1: power that they have. And it's shameful that the Ducts
- 28:05Speaker 1: Department for some people who were in some people. I
- 28:08Speaker 1: mean there have been you know, nine hundred some odd
- 28:11Speaker 1: people that have been prosecuted for a crime, but not
- 28:15Speaker 1: the power for once, and not the enablers and not
- 28:18Speaker 1: the chief orchestrator of Donald J. Trump. I mean, we
- 28:21Speaker 1: need to vote to do and as I said with
- 28:25Speaker 1: Representative Shift yesterday, as a former prosecutor. I would have
- 28:29Speaker 1: had enough evidence last year to go forward. So why
- 28:32Speaker 1: don't know? Why must be the people? Why would the
- 28:37Speaker 1: Justice Department need to do politics? Well, they've they've appointed
- 28:41Speaker 1: a special counsel, and you know they have all the evidence.
- 28:43Speaker 1: They've been conducting a parallel investigation. I don't know from
- 28:47Speaker 1: a legal standpoint, what more they need. They already have
- 28:50Speaker 1: criminal referrals for the enablers, they have criminal referrals for
- 28:53Speaker 1: this president. They have all these points of election reform
- 28:57Speaker 1: that they should take up immediately, and no one's really
- 29:00Speaker 1: doing anything. It's it's and that's that's why everyone. I mean,
- 29:04Speaker 1: these people are insane. I think the reason that these
- 29:08Speaker 1: elections and niners are still in Congress are holding their
- 29:10Speaker 1: party houses because there's been no accountability for January six.
- 29:14Speaker 1: They should be arrested. All to holdout should be arrested.
- 29:16Speaker 1: What because? And think about what they're advocating for. On ABC,
- 29:22Speaker 1: they're saying that if you stand up for what you
- 29:24Speaker 1: believe in while a member of Congress, the Department of
- 29:28Speaker 1: Justice that should just be able to walk in like
- 29:30Speaker 1: the Gestapo and just arrest you and drag you from
- 29:33Speaker 1: your office, drag you from the four of the House
- 29:36Speaker 1: and just say, well, we didn't like what you were saying.
- 29:39Speaker 1: You didn't vote the way we want you to vote.
- 29:41Speaker 1: That now you understand why the deep state is so
- 29:44Speaker 1: it has become so toxic. Now now you understand why
- 29:49Speaker 1: the deep state believes they can just arrest or do
- 29:53Speaker 1: whatever the hell they want to do with anybody. This
- 29:56Speaker 1: is why, this is exactly why they believe that this
- 30:00Speaker 1: is what they can always get, get all, you know,
- 30:02Speaker 1: done with. And there was something else that happened today
- 30:05Speaker 1: that just also made me laugh. If January the sixth
- 30:08Speaker 1: is the equivalent of nine to eleven, which is what
- 30:10Speaker 1: the media wants you to believe in Democrats have said,
- 30:12Speaker 1: then why did the President of United States of America,
- 30:14Speaker 1: Joe Biden forget the date January sixth and call it
- 30:17Speaker 1: July sixth, that actually happened today? Right? I mean, that's
- 30:22Speaker 1: that's that's real. Like this, This is a president who
- 30:26Speaker 1: wants you to believe that what happened on January the sixth,
- 30:29Speaker 1: US capital is exactly the same thing as not eleven,
- 30:35Speaker 1: but he can't even get the date right. That's how
- 30:38Speaker 1: ridiculous it is. I can halt for a second and
- 30:41Speaker 1: just say to you the impact what happened in July
- 30:47Speaker 1: the sixth head international repercussions beyond what I think any
- 30:50Speaker 1: of you can fully understand. July six folks, that's I
- 30:54Speaker 1: gotta google that and see what happened on July six
- 30:57Speaker 1: because apparently July sixth is the new most important day
- 31:01Speaker 1: in American history. July six that's the one that's going
- 31:05Speaker 1: to go down in infamy in this country. Just remember,
- 31:10Speaker 1: with all of these stories we're talking about, whether it's
- 31:12Speaker 1: the border and you know, Biden going the border, whether
- 31:15Speaker 1: it's the speaker thing, they always tell you everything's doom
- 31:18Speaker 1: and gloom or better than it is, depending on what
- 31:21Speaker 1: their narrative they needed to be. There's been no problem
- 31:23Speaker 1: at the border. Now they're saying there's a problem at
- 31:25Speaker 1: the border, but the president's going to fix it, while
- 31:26Speaker 1: the esterday they're saying there's no problem at the border.
- 31:29Speaker 1: They keep telling you a secure border when we know
- 31:30Speaker 1: it's not a secure border. Now he's saying it's not
- 31:32Speaker 1: a secure border, but they're going to secure the border.
- 31:34Speaker 1: It's absurd. The media is no different than the Democratic Party.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Never forget that. All right, We'll keep you update on
