- 1:49Speaker 3: Men of influence. And one of the great great gentlemen
- 1:52Speaker 3: who's being inducted into the Hall of Fame is war
- 1:55Speaker 3: done Form, an NFL player, This great guy. I met
- 1:58Speaker 3: him a couple of times when I was on some
- 2:00Speaker 3: television appearances on Fox five and he was in the
- 2:04Speaker 3: dressing room in the green room with me and just
- 2:06Speaker 3: very non descriptive, just a regular guy who's changing the
- 2:09Speaker 3: world with his positive and overall entrepreneur approach in the community,
- 2:16Speaker 3: giving people places to stay so they can have a
- 2:18Speaker 3: foundation for success.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Now let's give it to business.
- 2:21Speaker 3: My guest, he's on the call, and I had him
- 2:23Speaker 3: on the show before and it really dealt into chronic pain,
- 2:27Speaker 3: mental stress, overcoming the odds. His name is Jackson Dunbar.
- 2:31Speaker 3: He triumphed by earning a comfortable living after having lost
- 2:34Speaker 3: it all. Dumbbar's committed to creating a new normal life
- 2:38Speaker 3: for himself, deliberately focused on his physical health and strength,
- 2:42Speaker 3: continued to earn an income while still in chronic pain,
- 2:46Speaker 3: and without his knowledge, was teaching himself and possibly the world,
- 2:50Speaker 3: a masterclass in survival. And his book he gives a
- 2:54Speaker 3: first hand account on how he made money, lost Danty Palce,
- 2:58Speaker 3: and thrived in chronic pain in the financial and healthcare world.
- 3:02Speaker 3: The one and only Jackson Dunbar who's on the call,
- 3:06Speaker 3: still my friend.
- 3:07Speaker 1: He's been telling.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Us a story and a very movie story and a
- 3:10Speaker 3: very honest story about a day in the life of
- 3:13Speaker 3: a person with chronic pain. And even even just listening
- 3:17Speaker 3: to that. The model of drugs that is that you
- 3:21Speaker 3: have to have to get through a day, a day
- 3:24Speaker 3: in the life means you have to have insurance, correct Jackson?
- 3:28Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, and what And that was tough because
- 3:35Speaker 4: a lot of the med a lot of a lot
- 3:37Speaker 4: of the medications that I needed, some were covered, some
- 3:41Speaker 4: were not. I was luckier than most that I could
- 3:44Speaker 4: pay out of pocket. But now, yeh, Now with Obamacare,
- 3:51Speaker 4: the subsidies that are given and what you're able to
- 3:57Speaker 4: get on the changes are quite good. So now yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 4: I'm able to get almost all of the medicines that
- 4:04Speaker 4: I need covered by insurance.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Now I'm sitting in the house just I'm just pointing
- 4:09Speaker 3: an example. Somebody sending in the house stock market. I
- 4:13Speaker 3: don't even know what's going on with the stock ma.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I don't even understand the stock market. I don't know
- 4:16Speaker 3: those little numbers a little I don't you know, I
- 4:20Speaker 3: got a little money. I got bout maybe a few
- 4:22Speaker 3: thousands of dollars sending the bank. I hear words like
- 4:25Speaker 3: compounded ches, I hear stock, I hear all kind of
- 4:29Speaker 3: How do I break the financial financial literacy ignorance to
- 4:34Speaker 3: get involved?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Jackson?
- 4:37Speaker 4: Okay, well, I think the first step is to you know,
- 4:42Speaker 4: I think the first thing is just go on Google
- 4:45Speaker 4: and pretend like you're writing yourself a paper on the
- 4:50Speaker 4: stock market, right, can google stock market whatever, and then
- 4:53Speaker 4: finally you'll get all this data and write yourself a
- 4:57Speaker 4: long letter, a short write paper on how to get
- 5:01Speaker 4: into the stock market. And if you do that, what
- 5:03Speaker 4: you will find out is that, for the most part,
- 5:07Speaker 4: it's all about two things. Number one, what are the
- 5:12Speaker 4: current geop with the current geopolitical landscape? And interest rates?
- 5:18Speaker 4: And what I mean by that is that the geopolitical landscape,
- 5:22Speaker 4: let's say there's a wargo and whatever reason, supply lines
- 5:26Speaker 4: of oil have been cut. Well, there it's a lack
- 5:32Speaker 4: of oil. Hey, what's that going to do to the
- 5:35Speaker 4: price of it? Especially if there's a wargum. Also, interest
- 5:39Speaker 4: rates and interest rates are low, people people are more
- 5:43Speaker 4: risky with their money, institutions are more risky with their money.
- 5:47Speaker 4: So that means you can you can put money on
- 5:50Speaker 4: more speculative investments such as neo some of the crypto
- 5:57Speaker 4: based some of the crypto based stocks. But when interest
- 6:02Speaker 4: rates go up, typically investors are more cautious. They want
- 6:07Speaker 4: more meat and potatoes stocks, stocks that actually do something
- 6:10Speaker 4: and make money. So essentially what you want to do
- 6:15Speaker 4: is is just look at the current political look at
- 6:18Speaker 4: the current market and political landscape. Hey, what industries are
- 6:22Speaker 4: making money there? And then look at the interest rates,
- 6:27Speaker 4: what interest what interestries and what companies are making money
- 6:33Speaker 4: if we have less oil and have higher interest rates.
- 6:38Speaker 4: And from there, yeah, you pick the stocks. You pick
- 6:41Speaker 4: two or three stocks with a cost base is under
- 6:44Speaker 4: twenty dollars because you want to get appreciation. You're not
- 6:49Speaker 4: going to get a lot of appreciation getting something that
- 6:53Speaker 4: has three digits or more. That's too expensive for me.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Most of your money is going to be made between
- 6:59Speaker 4: zero and twenty.
- 7:01Speaker 1: If a stock splits, does it? Should you buy in?
- 7:04Speaker 4: Then? You know, I think for me, most of the
- 7:09Speaker 4: times when the stock split that values over three digits?
- 7:14Speaker 1: Okay, okay?
- 7:15Speaker 4: And for me here I have stocks in several categories.
- 7:20Speaker 4: You got the fast and the furious, right okay? Yeah?
- 7:24Speaker 4: And these stocks, you know, they go up fast and
- 7:27Speaker 4: they come down fast. You know, a MC Are you
- 7:32Speaker 4: a day trader?
- 7:32Speaker 1: Are you a day trader? Jackson?
- 7:35Speaker 4: Consider myself more of a spot trader.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Okay, okay, Because it sounds like they were you seeing
- 7:39Speaker 3: stuff going up and down?
- 7:40Speaker 1: I mean you you watch it?
- 7:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you can watch it. Watch it. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 4: a lot of the specific cryptos themselves. I mean doors Coin. Yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 4: that was a great example of a fast and furious.
- 7:51Speaker 4: And then you have friends with benefits. Okay, so these
- 7:55Speaker 4: are stocks that you wantn't want your mother to buy,
- 7:58Speaker 4: but they're good for a good here. Okay, you'll ride
- 8:02Speaker 4: the ups and downs of these and what's great about
- 8:05Speaker 4: these spots is that they'll go up and then they'll
- 8:09Speaker 4: come down. And when they come down, you do put
- 8:13Speaker 4: some notes and and what puts. What puts are basically
- 8:17Speaker 4: you're betting that a stock's going to go down. They
- 8:19Speaker 4: call it short the market.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Are you really into it?
- 8:23Speaker 3: You're saying all the all the right terminology of a
- 8:26Speaker 3: day treat, you know.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, So for me, I focus on friends with benefit stocks.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I ride them up, and then when I think they're
- 8:36Speaker 4: going down, I shot them and.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I well, you know a lot of people say that's
- 8:42Speaker 3: dollar cost averaging, right is that is am I using
- 8:46Speaker 3: the right terminology?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Because that sounds like what you're doing.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Well, well, here, I know a lot of folks they
- 8:53Speaker 4: dollar cos average id e. They put so much money
- 8:56Speaker 4: in every month and hope to get the power of
- 8:59Speaker 4: compound and and things of that nature. Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I do do that. So much of my so much
- 9:07Speaker 4: of my proceeds they go into a kid's account, or
- 9:10Speaker 4: they go into here, we have an investing account, and
- 9:14Speaker 4: then we have a retirement account. The retirement account is
- 9:17Speaker 4: more conservative investments. By that, I need index funds and
- 9:25Speaker 4: ets that paid dividends. So that's all we do over there,
- 9:31Speaker 4: do a lot of dollar cost Allergen over that because
- 9:34Speaker 4: so much money every month out of the risky stock
- 9:39Speaker 4: fund goes into that more moderate stock fundon in order
- 9:44Speaker 4: to sport.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Jackson, I'm never in my life bought a twenty dollars stock.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I can't even imagine the research you have to do
- 9:56Speaker 3: to buy a twenty dollars stock.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Well, you know what, let's see Ribban uh huh again.
- 10:04Speaker 4: These guys they have the they have the best electric
- 10:08Speaker 4: truck on the planet. Right, what was that nine dollars?
- 10:12Speaker 4: During spring break? I loaded my kids accounts up.
- 10:17Speaker 5: With that.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Because here, Tesla is good, but I want something that's
- 10:22Speaker 4: gone twenty thirty, forty X my money, and you're only
- 10:27Speaker 4: going to get those with stocks between zero and twenty dollars.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'm being educated. Keep talking, Jack, how much educating me. Brother.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Have you been to the have you ever have you
- 10:41Speaker 4: ever read the Motley Fool before?
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, A long time been around.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Wow, that's been that's been around at least for forty years.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 4: But if you go to fool dot com and just
- 10:52Speaker 4: typing best growth stocks under twenty, I mean under twenty dollars,
- 10:58Speaker 4: you can go on to five under ten, under twenty
- 11:01Speaker 4: for this year. It'll pull you up. It'll pull you
- 11:04Speaker 4: up some. Then go over to Y'alluo finance and grab
- 11:09Speaker 4: them out and see how and see how they've done.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Now you'll see things like Mara, which which is a
- 11:15Speaker 4: crypto related stocks, is up four hundred percent. Riot, another
- 11:20Speaker 4: crypto really is up four hundred percent this year. Ribbon
- 11:24Speaker 4: is up more than two hundred percent. So you're not
- 11:28Speaker 4: going to get those sort of returns with some of
- 11:34Speaker 4: triple digit and more stocks like Tesla, Chevron and things
- 11:39Speaker 4: of that nature. And don't get me wrong, I call
- 11:41Speaker 4: those stocks spouses. They're well established, they grow, they pay
- 11:48Speaker 4: dividends minimum and they had minimum okay, and they had
- 11:53Speaker 4: minimum up and downs. But I startedly now I'll have
- 11:58Speaker 4: my kids and stuff like that, because the power of
- 12:01Speaker 4: compound compound interest. The younger you are, the more money
- 12:06Speaker 4: you make there you go. So if you're starting your
- 12:08Speaker 4: kids at fifteen sixteen, by the time they're forty, they're
- 12:11Speaker 4: multi millionaires. But for us, you know, we had to
- 12:15Speaker 4: pay off student loans, we have to start businesses. We
- 12:18Speaker 4: just set up our kids pay for college. We may
- 12:21Speaker 4: be starting at fifty. So my question is where can
- 12:24Speaker 4: I make the most amount of money if I got
- 12:27Speaker 4: maybe fifteen or twenty years to play with, and for
- 12:30Speaker 4: me that stocks between zero and twenty dollars.
- 12:34Speaker 3: We're talking to Jackson Dunbar and he's educating with Sean McDonald.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Hopefully he's educating my audience. For man jum me. You know,
- 12:42Speaker 3: he's a he's quiet on the other side of the glass.
- 12:49Speaker 4: He's quiet on.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Those sidember because I'm Jason Man. It's no way I
- 12:55Speaker 3: ever bought even thought of buying a DOOCT. That was
- 12:58Speaker 3: like at the twenty dollars they thought in my mind.
- 13:00Speaker 3: But then what you said something that was really important
- 13:03Speaker 3: before we go to break you said, treat going into
- 13:07Speaker 3: the stock market like a homework assignment, which means you
- 13:10Speaker 3: do your research and you have to learn about your
- 13:13Speaker 3: product and by learning about your product, you actually get
- 13:18Speaker 3: a clear understanding of the advantages and the disadvantages and
- 13:22Speaker 3: the approach of doing business with the stock market of
- 13:26Speaker 3: stock and so that approach I had never heard. And
- 13:29Speaker 3: when I get back, I want to ask you a
- 13:31Speaker 3: question about you know, because of that injury that happened,
- 13:36Speaker 3: you're living a lifestyle that I'm assuming you not have
- 13:40Speaker 3: lived if the injury didn't happen. When we get back,
- 13:42Speaker 3: he's going to answer that question. Jackson Dunbar, he's on
- 13:45Speaker 3: my show, Money Making Conversations master Class and we're talking
- 13:48Speaker 3: about chronic pain, mental health, overcoming the Odds and his
- 13:53Speaker 3: book that is really really a life changer, How I
- 13:57Speaker 3: Made money, lost ninety pounds and Thrive in Chronic Pain.
- 14:01Speaker 1: That is his book. And Jackson Dunbar will be right back.
- 14:12Speaker 5: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 14:16Speaker 5: with Rushaun McDonald.

- 15:24Speaker 6: story to share your story.
- 15:27Speaker 5: Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashaun McDonald.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I want to thank you everybody for sticking around and
- 15:34Speaker 3: listening to the show. You just hold on a lot
- 15:37Speaker 3: of different platform podcast series XM on this radio streams
- 15:43Speaker 3: worldwide and it's about providing everybody with information. I've learned
- 15:47Speaker 3: a lot since I started hosting Money Making Conversation Masterclass
- 15:51Speaker 3: and it's I've learned basically by just shutting up and
- 15:54Speaker 3: listening because of the fact that if you know everything
- 15:57Speaker 3: while you have a guest on the show talking to him,
- 16:00Speaker 3: of the guess I am talking to that has really
- 16:02Speaker 3: educated me a lot, and hope a lot of the
- 16:04Speaker 3: audience members who are listening is about overcoming the arts,
- 16:08Speaker 3: not self pity, not being your dominant derivative of why
- 16:12Speaker 3: you are successful or not successful in that case, because
- 16:17Speaker 3: that's where the pity comes in. But more importantly, Jackson
- 16:21Speaker 3: Dunbar had an accident that he didn't ask for to
- 16:24Speaker 3: change his life, change his family life, change his wife's life,
- 16:27Speaker 3: change his lifestyle, and pity, did step in drugs, did
- 16:32Speaker 3: step in anger? Stepped in three years of that changed
- 16:38Speaker 3: his life. And there's a lot of people that care
- 16:41Speaker 3: about him and cared about him, and I'm sure he
- 16:43Speaker 3: lost some friends along the way too, because one thing
- 16:46Speaker 3: you don't want to be is an angry person in
- 16:47Speaker 3: a wheelchair. You know who're going to hang around that person?
- 16:50Speaker 3: I know I won't, And so you overcame that and
- 16:54Speaker 3: now you have a knowledge in the financial industry that's
- 16:58Speaker 3: now benefiting your family where you feel you would have
- 17:01Speaker 3: been with this knowledge, if you would not have had
- 17:05Speaker 3: this accident.
- 17:09Speaker 4: You know, when I had the accident, as I told you,
- 17:13Speaker 4: I own well Met Atlanta. We're a group of child
- 17:15Speaker 4: and LANs and psychiatrists. We're black owned, and we closed
- 17:21Speaker 4: our biggest deal then. And at that time in my life,
- 17:24Speaker 4: I was chasing I was chasing the dollars. My best
- 17:28Speaker 4: friend he would be like, every time I call you,
- 17:32Speaker 4: you know you're chasing money. And yeah, And I think
- 17:38Speaker 4: the accident made me slow down. I gotta say I'm
- 17:43Speaker 4: a better father. I'm sure a better husband, and and
- 17:52Speaker 4: I think a lot of that was it just And
- 17:55Speaker 4: I'm probably a better person too. You know, I thought
- 17:58Speaker 4: about things and dollars and cents, profit and losses. You know,
- 18:06Speaker 4: I could tell you the profit and loss per patient
- 18:09Speaker 4: on anyone coming in and and I lack something and
- 18:15Speaker 4: I don't And and now having a walk a mile
- 18:18Speaker 4: in someone's shoes, being judged by the color of your skin,
- 18:23Speaker 4: having to get treatment but not being able to have
- 18:25Speaker 4: the insurance, it's it's, it's it's it's changed me to
- 18:30Speaker 4: the point now where I tell people, hey, listen, you
- 18:33Speaker 4: know we have a business. But that's only step one.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Step two is how do we improve the community that
- 18:41Speaker 4: we live in, you know, how do we make enough
- 18:43Speaker 4: off of the people that can pay so that we
- 18:46Speaker 4: can help some of the people that can. And so
- 18:50Speaker 4: now yeah, it's I've I've a more I have a
- 18:55Speaker 4: better worldview around people around and yeah, and I don't
- 19:01Speaker 4: think I would have had that but for the accident.
- 19:05Speaker 4: I'm also the better shape because back then, yeah, I
- 19:10Speaker 4: mean I was three fifty at my biggest.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm in the two fifties. Now. I swim at
- 19:20Speaker 4: the Way Walk of YMCA. I'm also on the board
- 19:22Speaker 4: there and I have three way Walk I have three
- 19:28Speaker 4: one hundred mile t shirts that I have from swimming.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Wow.
- 19:31Speaker 4: And I have to say, you know, there is that
- 19:38Speaker 4: there's a point where you're in water, you feel like
- 19:41Speaker 4: you touch God, God himself and as I feel no
- 19:46Speaker 4: pain as soon as I get in water.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Wow.
- 19:50Speaker 4: So it's a great way to reset to really focused
- 19:55Speaker 4: on Okay, I was able to do these six things
- 19:58Speaker 4: and three to four hours, how do I kick it
- 20:01Speaker 4: up to ten? Okay, And I'll spend my time thinking
- 20:06Speaker 4: about that. Uh, let's see versus Oh this is what
- 20:10Speaker 4: I lost. Blah blah blah, blah blah. So yeah, I'm
- 20:17Speaker 4: enjoying life more. Yeah, the pain sucks, forgive my French.
- 20:22Speaker 4: But when I look down and I focus on what
- 20:26Speaker 4: I've gotten out because of COVID, I would when my
- 20:33Speaker 4: accident came and at the biggest with all the drugs,
- 20:35Speaker 4: I was three fifty off. My A one C was
- 20:38Speaker 4: in eight seven. All my numbers were read. If I
- 20:42Speaker 4: had those numbers during COVID, I would have died right right, yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 4: because because most black people were men with those cold
- 20:50Speaker 4: mobidities during COVID. Yeah, it wasn't pretty. But now my
- 20:55Speaker 4: A one C is under six. I'm six to one,
- 21:00Speaker 4: about to look like a lumber Jain. For the most part,
- 21:03Speaker 4: all my numbers are green in a lot of ways. Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 4: I'm the healthiest I've ever been, and that's because of the.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Accident, both mentally and physically.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Yes, sir, oh, I love it.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I love it.
- 21:18Speaker 3: You know when we started this conversation at the top
- 21:21Speaker 3: of the show, and the first time you came on
- 21:23Speaker 3: the show, I didn't really get a whole picture of
- 21:27Speaker 3: the man I'm talking to, and that's Jackson Dunbar. And
- 21:30Speaker 3: the first conversation was about the book and we talked
- 21:32Speaker 3: about the book. We've talked in and out of the book,
- 21:34Speaker 3: but I feel today we basically had a conversation, and
- 21:36Speaker 3: that conversation is important because you shared with us knowledge
- 21:40Speaker 3: you've shared with us, you know, emotional moments you've shared
- 21:44Speaker 3: us with. You know your relationship with your wife, relationship
- 21:48Speaker 3: with your daughter, relationship with your family, relationship with your friends.
- 21:52Speaker 3: But more importantly, you still care. You know, despite all
- 21:55Speaker 3: that pain, you still care. How does one care when
- 22:00Speaker 3: it seems like life has delivered you a bad hand.
- 22:04Speaker 4: I found out something. We pulled our kids out of
- 22:08Speaker 4: private school and we put them in the neighborhood school.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I was I would bring my daughter home and she
- 22:16Speaker 4: said it was hot. The ac went out, and like,
- 22:19Speaker 4: how long had it been out? A few days? So
- 22:22Speaker 4: I went up to the school and my scooter and
- 22:25Speaker 4: just the ac out. They wouldn't give me an answer,
- 22:28Speaker 4: so I went I did what any of that would do.
- 22:31Speaker 4: I went to the Age of hardware store. I bought
- 22:36Speaker 4: all of their fans. I brought them to the school
- 22:40Speaker 4: and the principal was looking at me as if I
- 22:43Speaker 4: was going to cause the scene go to the press.
- 22:45Speaker 4: I'm like, no, all, I want to do is keep
- 22:47Speaker 4: my daughter and these kids school. So I brought the
- 22:51Speaker 4: fans over and I climbed out for my scooter. I
- 22:54Speaker 4: was in so much pain and I was sweating. Halfway
- 22:57Speaker 4: through assembling those fans. My daughter she came, got one
- 23:01Speaker 4: for her class, smiled. Another person came, got a fan
- 23:05Speaker 4: for her class. All of a sudden, I stopped thinking
- 23:08Speaker 4: about the tame and I fact that they're putting the
- 23:12Speaker 4: fans together and seeing the smiles on all the black
- 23:16Speaker 4: and brown faces, I realized something. You know, the best
- 23:21Speaker 4: way to help yourself is to help other people. All
- 23:24Speaker 4: the anger is gone, all the resentment is gone. And yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 4: we have a smile on your face. And people say
- 23:34Speaker 4: that about me all the time, especially when I go
- 23:36Speaker 4: and when I see my doctors. You know, you always
- 23:40Speaker 4: have this big smile on your face. That's swear for
- 23:42Speaker 4: a game patience, And it's like, yeah, because I spend
- 23:50Speaker 4: my time focused on what I can do, and then
- 23:55Speaker 4: I try to make a game of it. How can
- 23:57Speaker 4: I do more give than the limited time to give
- 24:01Speaker 4: them the limit physical capacity I have? And I just
- 24:06Speaker 4: worked the plan and that keeps smile on my face.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Wow, great story. Tell us how we can find your book,
