Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome. It is Verdict with Ted Cruz. Wee can review
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ben Ferguson with you. And here are the big stories
- 0:06Speaker 1: that you may have missed that we talked about this week.
- 0:08Speaker 1: First up, AOC doesn't understand how America was started, but
- 0:13Speaker 1: she put words in the mouths of our founding fathers.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The only problem is.
- 0:17Speaker 1: There's receipts of what they actually believed, and we fact
- 0:21Speaker 1: check her on exactly how ridiculous some of her comments were.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Up next, the Virginia scotis Jerry mannering reversal that has
- 0:30Speaker 1: rocked the entire country. So what does it actually mean
- 0:33Speaker 1: and how is this going to affect the midterm elections?
- 0:36Speaker 1: And finally President Trump heads to China. What is coming
- 0:40Speaker 1: out of that meaning in Beijing? And could we see
- 0:43Speaker 1: the releasing of political prisoners from the US. It's the
- 0:47Speaker 1: weekend review and it starts right now.
- 0:50Speaker 3: The Declaration of Independence that that was the birthday of
- 0:52Speaker 3: our nation, and it was Thomas Jefferson who penned the
- 0:57Speaker 3: immortal words. We hold these truths to be self evident,
- 0:59Speaker 3: that all men are created equal, and that they are
- 1:03Speaker 3: endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among
- 1:06Speaker 3: these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That declaration,
- 1:10Speaker 3: by the way, declaring our independence not from billionaires but
- 1:14Speaker 3: from oppressive government from King George. That was the beginning
- 1:19Speaker 3: of our nation. And then some twenty years later the
- 1:22Speaker 3: United States Constitution, which created our democracy. I mean, if
- 1:27Speaker 3: you want to look at the moment that our democracy
- 1:29Speaker 3: was created, it was the delegates in Constitution Hall in
- 1:32Speaker 3: Philadelphia who drafted the constitution, who set up our system
- 1:36Speaker 3: of government, and then the states that had to ratify it,
- 1:38Speaker 3: and once it was ratified, it went into effect.
- 1:43Speaker 2: That is what is created our democracy. Now.
- 1:46Speaker 3: If she were speaking precisely, what she could have said
- 1:50Speaker 3: is when our democracy was created, it was imperfect and
- 1:54Speaker 3: we had to travel a journey to move towards greater equality.
- 1:59Speaker 3: That statement is on equivocally right. It is true, accurate.
- 2:02Speaker 3: When our nation was created, African Americans in half the
- 2:06Speaker 3: country were slaves. They had no right to vote, women
- 2:10Speaker 3: had no right to vote. On the question of slavery,
- 2:15Speaker 3: I've said many times slavery is the original sin of America.
- 2:18Speaker 3: It was a grotesque evil. I will point out though,
- 2:21Speaker 3: that how did we abolish slavery? Look, we abolish slavery
- 2:25Speaker 3: number one. The person who did it was Abraham Lincoln,
- 2:28Speaker 3: the very first Republican president. Our party was created in
- 2:32Speaker 3: order to defeat slavery. That was the purpose, that's the
- 2:35Speaker 3: origin of the Republican Party. The Democrat Party, by the way,
- 2:39Speaker 3: virtually its entire tenure defended say it slavery, and fought
- 2:43Speaker 3: ferociously in favor of slavery. But the way the abolitionists
- 2:48Speaker 3: in the Republican Party successfully abolished slavery was not by
- 2:52Speaker 3: attacking our founding principles, not by attacking the Constitution, not
- 2:57Speaker 3: by attacking the Declaration, but rather by appealing to those
- 3:02Speaker 3: principles by saying, we are not living up. When Jefferson
- 3:06Speaker 3: wrote the words all men are created equal, that statement
- 3:10Speaker 3: is on its face, completely incompatible with slavery. Jefferson knew
- 3:15Speaker 3: that he was brilliant, and he was putting into place.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I believe I agree with doctor Martin Luther King who said,
- 3:24Speaker 3: the arc of history is long, but it bends towards
- 3:28Speaker 3: justice but AOC and this is true with the squad
- 3:32Speaker 3: and with all of the communists on the left. They're
- 3:35Speaker 3: so ignorant that everything I just said there they don't know.
- 3:39Speaker 3: They're told that the American Revolution was a communist revolution
- 3:42Speaker 3: against the billionaires, that the answer is more government power,
- 3:47Speaker 3: and they repeat things like black Americans gave us democracy,
- 3:51Speaker 3: which is just simply not accurate. The civil rights movement
- 3:55Speaker 3: was one of the greatest democratic movements in our nation's history,
- 3:58Speaker 3: by the way, points to the Civil Rights Act.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Look Civil Rights Act.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Far more Republicans, a much greater percentage of Republicans in
- 4:05Speaker 3: Congress voted for the Civil Rights Act than Democrats. Her
- 4:08Speaker 3: party opposed the Civil Rights Act, the majority of them.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And so, yes, we're on a journey, but the left,
- 4:17Speaker 3: they're ignorance. It is a close battle, which predominates ideology
- 4:24Speaker 3: or ignorance, But they're both intertwined and they're both fundamentally wrong.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And by the way, AOC was not done there. She
- 4:31Speaker 1: also had another pretty interesting line. She made it very
- 4:35Speaker 1: clear that she wanted to say something about illegal immigrants
- 4:39Speaker 1: and saying through fear mongering that once they're all deported,
- 4:42Speaker 1: they're going to come after other groups referring to Republicans.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Take a listen to this.
- 4:46Speaker 4: All of a sudden, we now have a paramilitary force,
- 4:51Speaker 4: we don't have a court system, right, they don't need
- 4:55Speaker 4: they don't think they need judicial warrants, so you don't
- 4:58Speaker 4: get to process. So you start creating this black box system.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Point a finger, whether it's like again like we saw
- 5:09Speaker 4: in Jim Crow, whether you just point a finger and
- 5:13Speaker 4: one hundred years ago accuse a little black boy or something,
- 5:16Speaker 4: you can point a finger and accuse someone of that today.
- 5:19Speaker 4: If you think when once you build that machine, that
- 5:24Speaker 4: it's only going to be reserved to that this eats profit,
- 5:30Speaker 4: these things Ice. It's not just ICE, it's Corcivic, it's
- 5:36Speaker 4: Geo Group. Those are corporations that run ICE detention centers.
- 5:42Speaker 4: They are for profit, they are traded on Wall Street.
- 5:48Speaker 4: And what happens is that those companies and this system
- 5:54Speaker 4: is that it does not accept anything but gross. It's
- 6:00Speaker 4: not even good enough to be profitable. It's not even
- 6:04Speaker 4: good enough to be profitable. You have to be more
- 6:06Speaker 4: profitable and more profitable and more profitable. It's not enough
- 6:10Speaker 4: to be a profitable business. You have to keep growing
- 6:13Speaker 4: those profits. And so once they've rounded up every person
- 6:16Speaker 4: in this country, who do you think is next?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah? O, look, that is that both the classic ignorance
- 6:21Speaker 3: and misinformation of the left. So they understand AOC supports
- 6:27Speaker 3: a open borders, so she wants to abolish the police.
- 6:29Speaker 2: She wants to abolish eye.
- 6:31Speaker 3: She opposes all law enforcement that actually secures our border
- 6:35Speaker 3: against foreign invaders, against illegal immigrants, against violent murderers, rapists, child.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Molesters, and gangbangers.
- 6:42Speaker 3: And her position has consistently been let all of them
- 6:44Speaker 3: out of jail. But at the same time she wants
- 6:48Speaker 3: to tell her very ill informed supporters, if there are
- 6:54Speaker 3: detention centers that are used for illegal immigrants, that are
- 6:57Speaker 3: used for violent criminals, those will be you used by
- 7:00Speaker 3: government against you. And part of what is really astonishing
- 7:05Speaker 3: is is if you look throughout history, in almost every
- 7:09Speaker 3: instance where there been mass detention centers, it's been the
- 7:13Speaker 3: left that has put them in place. You look at
- 7:16Speaker 3: whether it is the Soviet gulags where communist imprisoned millions.
- 7:22Speaker 3: You look at Joseph Stalin, you know, you read Soulshinicha
- 7:26Speaker 3: and the Gulag Archipelago and talks about the incredible miseries
- 7:30Speaker 3: of communism imprisoning millions in prisons. You look at my
- 7:35Speaker 3: father's home country of Cuba and the prisons that are
- 7:38Speaker 3: there right now. You look at North Korea, Cuba's communist
- 7:42Speaker 3: Soviet Union was communists. North Korea's communists. You have gulags there.
- 7:47Speaker 3: You look at China, China today has over a million
- 7:51Speaker 3: wigers who are religious minorities, who are in concentration camps.
- 7:55Speaker 3: It's the largest instance of human slavery on the face
- 7:58Speaker 3: of the planet.
- 7:59Speaker 2: That is, I mean, it's China.
- 8:01Speaker 3: And by the way, you look at World War Two
- 8:04Speaker 3: the Nazis, so leftists liked to paint the Nazis as right,
- 8:08Speaker 3: but let's be clear, Nazis were national socialists.
- 8:12Speaker 2: That was their policy.
- 8:13Speaker 3: That's what Nazi stands for is national socialists. The economic
- 8:17Speaker 3: policy of the left is what the Nazis believed in
- 8:21Speaker 3: government control. And I do want to be clear, it's
- 8:24Speaker 3: not just historical leftists who have imposed concentration cancer. Let
- 8:29Speaker 3: me be very clear. I think slavery is wrong. Concentration
- 8:34Speaker 3: camps are wrong. Detention camps. By the way, in the
- 8:36Speaker 3: United States, which president created detention camps and detained American citizens.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I'm going to go where it was a democrat? Is
- 8:44Speaker 1: I just want to be clear about this.
- 8:46Speaker 2: It is a democrat.
- 8:47Speaker 3: It was FDR who set up internment camps for Japanese
- 8:51Speaker 3: Americans who were American citizens and in turn thousands of
- 8:55Speaker 3: them forcibly detained them during World War Two. That was
- 8:58Speaker 3: a Democrat, by the way she told talks about Jim Crow.
- 9:01Speaker 3: She probably doesn't know this, but do you know who
- 9:03Speaker 3: wrote the Jim Crow laws? That would be Democrats?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Here is that. Do you know who.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Funded who funded and founded the KKK?
- 9:10Speaker 2: That would be Democrats.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And I want to read to give you something recent
- 9:18Speaker 3: in twenty twenty, there was an Iowa based field organizer
- 9:22Speaker 3: for Bernie Sanders's campaign who was caught on tape discussing
- 9:27Speaker 3: the need for quote, re education camps for people who
- 9:32Speaker 3: did not support Bernie Sanders, particularly for Trump supporters. So
- 9:37Speaker 3: AOC it is her side that has advocated we're going
- 9:42Speaker 3: to put the people we disagree with in camps. In
- 9:46Speaker 3: some level, that's not shocking because the left has always
- 9:49Speaker 3: been willing. If you support government power, you are willing
- 9:54Speaker 3: to use that government power to lock up everyone who
- 9:57Speaker 3: disagrees with you. And there's something fundamentally different between locking
- 10:01Speaker 3: up a violent criminal locking up someone who has violated
- 10:04Speaker 3: the law. That is protecting the community, that's protecting our citizens,
- 10:08Speaker 3: that is upholding the rule of law. There's something fundamentally
- 10:11Speaker 3: different between that and rounding up and locking up lawful citizens.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And in history, virtually the only people to have done
- 10:21Speaker 3: so have been leftists, have been communists like AOC. And
- 10:25Speaker 3: yet look, I do think she studied Sololensky's rules for radicals.
- 10:30Speaker 3: She starts and throughout accuses her opponents of doing that
- 10:35Speaker 3: which she would do. And look, these interviews truth matters.
- 10:42Speaker 3: And let me say this as a final point, this
- 10:45Speaker 3: is a big part of the reason we do these podcasts.
- 10:48Speaker 2: It is to.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Actually engage and give you the substance. Because if someone
- 10:53Speaker 3: is a young person and they're listening to AOC and
- 10:55Speaker 3: they're like, oh, oh, yeah, the American Revolution fought to
- 10:59Speaker 3: overcome the billionaires. We got to stop those billionaires. This
- 11:03Speaker 3: podcast is here to give you the facts and information
- 11:06Speaker 3: to push back on that dishonest and ignorant indoctrination.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Now, if you want to hear the rest of this conversation,
- 11:14Speaker 1: you can go back and listen to the full podcast
- 11:17Speaker 1: from earlier this week. Now onto story number two. Let's
- 11:21Speaker 1: move on to Virginia real quick, and this one is
- 11:24Speaker 1: also a very interesting story. Democrats, when they tell you
- 11:28Speaker 1: they're crazy and they hate this country, and they hate
- 11:31Speaker 1: our laws and our rules like believe them. Democrats now
- 11:35Speaker 1: are threatening to boot the entire Virginia Supreme Court. And
- 11:40Speaker 1: let's explain how we got to this point, center, because
- 11:43Speaker 1: it's this is a warning of us coming in with
- 11:45Speaker 1: our US Supreme Court. They want to get rid of it.
- 11:47Speaker 1: They want to pack it. Every time they get a
- 11:48Speaker 1: ruling they don't like. It doesn't matter. There is no
- 11:51Speaker 1: law in order anymore in the Democratic Party. They don't
- 11:54Speaker 1: get their way. We just dismantle the Supreme Court, dismantle
- 11:57Speaker 1: the constitution, get rid of everybody in our way.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Well, look, the Virginia State Legislature sadly as Democrat. The governor,
- 12:06Speaker 3: Abigail Spamberger ran as a moderate. She actually ran saying
- 12:10Speaker 3: Jerry Mannering is wrong. We should oppose Jerry Manderin.
- 12:13Speaker 2: She got elected.
- 12:14Speaker 3: And by the way, Abigail Spamberger is a object lesson
- 12:19Speaker 3: for elections across the country. The Democrats who run as
- 12:23Speaker 3: moderates are lying to you. Every word she said on
- 12:26Speaker 3: the campaign trail was a lie. She got in as
- 12:29Speaker 3: this hard left zealot. She immediately stopped cooperating with federal
- 12:34Speaker 3: law enforcements, started releasing illegal immigrants, violent criminals into Virginia.
- 12:40Speaker 3: She began proposing new taxes on just about everything you
- 12:44Speaker 3: can imagine. And when it came to redistricting the current
- 12:47Speaker 3: map in Virginia, there are eleven House members in Virginia.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Six of them are Democrats, five of them are Republicans.
- 12:54Speaker 3: That's about right. Virginia is a purple state. Glen youngin
- 12:59Speaker 3: Or Republican, was the previous governor. In the twenty twenty
- 13:04Speaker 3: four election, Kamala Harris won Virginia, but by just a
- 13:07Speaker 3: few points, so six' five was about right in terms
- 13:10Speaker 3: of where the state was. Divided but The, democrats for,
- 13:14Speaker 3: them power is the number one, objective and so they
- 13:18Speaker 3: rammed through an emergency redistricting plan that took the map
- 13:22Speaker 3: from six' five democrat to Ten. One democrat and they
- 13:28Speaker 3: told the roughly forty five Percent of virginians Who, vote
- 13:32Speaker 3: republican you no longer. Get representation we're going to disenfranchise
- 13:37Speaker 3: you because all we care about. Is power and basically
- 13:41Speaker 3: they drew these horrible maps where Much, of virginia the
- 13:45Speaker 3: rural parts are, bright red and you've Got, northern virginia
- 13:48Speaker 3: which ARE basically, dc suburbs which are a bunch of,
- 13:51Speaker 3: government employees many of whom are, very liberal and so
- 13:54Speaker 3: they drew these maps where most of the districts reached Into,
- 13:57Speaker 3: northern virginia grabbed a bunch of government bureaucrats and used
- 14:01Speaker 3: them as left wing voters to turn the rest of the. District,
- 14:03Speaker 3: blue well the problem is they got challenged, in court
- 14:08Speaker 3: and initially a trial judge ruled that the redistricting was
- 14:14Speaker 3: illegal Under The Virginia. State constitution that got appealed To
- 14:18Speaker 3: The Virginia. Supreme court Now The Virginia, supreme court the Justices.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Are democrats they were put on There. By democrats they
- 14:25Speaker 3: were Confirmed by. Democrat Legislatures The Virginia supreme court. Last,
- 14:30Speaker 3: week shockingly most observers, were astonished looked At The Virginia
- 14:34Speaker 3: state constitution, and, said hey what the legislature did here,
- 14:38Speaker 3: was illegal and they struck. It down by, the way
- 14:41Speaker 3: The Previous attorney General, Of Virginia Republican, jason miarez had
- 14:45Speaker 3: written an, opinion saying Under The, virginia constitution you can't.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Do this this is contrary. To, law now when, That
- 14:52Speaker 3: happened Democrats in washington their heads exploded because this was
- 14:57Speaker 3: critical to their. Seizing power, since then they have called for.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Number one they've called for putting a mandatory retirement Age
- 15:06Speaker 3: in virginia On The supreme court of. Fifty four their
- 15:10Speaker 3: entire purpose is to throw every justice On The supreme
- 15:14Speaker 3: court off so they could pack them with left wing
- 15:17Speaker 3: activists who were uphold.
- 15:19Speaker 2: The redistrictym.
- 15:22Speaker 3: They have also talked about just fundamentally Overturning So, mark
- 15:28Speaker 3: elias who is the hardcore Left wing democrat lawyer who
- 15:36Speaker 3: brings all of these incredibly. Partisan decisions any Time of
- 15:39Speaker 3: republicans elected in, Close Election mark elias files a lawsuit
- 15:43Speaker 3: seeking to overturn the. Voter's will he is one of
- 15:46Speaker 3: the most rabid partisans in. The country he tweeted out
- 15:50Speaker 3: a quote From The virginia, constitution quote whenever any government
- 15:55Speaker 3: shall be found inadequate or contrary to, these purposes a
- 15:59Speaker 3: majority of the commune unity hath, an, indubitable inalienable and
- 16:03Speaker 3: indefeasible right, to, reform alter or abolish it in such
- 16:09Speaker 3: a manner as shall be judged most conducive to the
- 16:12Speaker 3: Public wheel and to, be clear what he is, SAYING
- 16:17Speaker 3: is i don't like What The Virginia supreme court concluded
- 16:20Speaker 3: even Though. They're democrats so abolish the government of the State.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Of virginia that's how radical these. Zealots are and by,
- 16:28Speaker 3: the way you combine that with the recent decision OF. The.
- 16:33Speaker 3: U S supreme court that concluded that racial gerrymandering, is
- 16:38Speaker 3: unconstitutional that, drawing lines drawing congressional, lines discriminating saying we're
- 16:43Speaker 3: going to put people of one race in, the district
- 16:46Speaker 3: take people of another race out of, the district that.
- 16:48Speaker 3: That's unconstitutional it had been an open question whether complying
- 16:53Speaker 3: With The Voting rights act was essentially an exception to
- 16:58Speaker 3: the constitutional prohibition on racial, jerry mandary And The supreme
- 17:01Speaker 3: court included six, Y, three no it is not That,
- 17:04Speaker 3: the constitution The, fourteenth amendment The, fifteenth amendment prohibit discrimination based,
- 17:09Speaker 3: on race prohibit voting discrimination based. ON race i think
- 17:13Speaker 3: that is the right reading Of. The constitution And the
- 17:17Speaker 3: democrats have lost their ever, loving mind, because, understand look,
- 17:21Speaker 3: all right All Of. New england you take the States
- 17:25Speaker 3: In new england And, the northeast which vote anywhere from
- 17:30Speaker 3: Sixty forty democrat to sixty five to Thirty five democrat
- 17:33Speaker 3: depending on. The state How many republicans do you think
- 17:35Speaker 3: are elected.
- 17:36Speaker 2: In All Of.
- 17:36Speaker 3: New england i'm going to go with, zero zero be
- 17:40Speaker 3: right in state After state, Massachusetts zero, Maine zero, Vermont
- 17:45Speaker 3: Zero new, Hampshire Zero rhode, Island zero. Connecticut zero, that
- 17:51Speaker 3: is they just jerrymandered the heck out, of it and
- 17:54Speaker 3: they have one hundred percent of The. Representation democrat In,
- 17:58Speaker 3: The south democrats have Used The Voting rights act, to
- 18:02Speaker 3: insist if you can draw a district that Elects An African,
- 18:09Speaker 3: american democrat you must Elect. That, democrat now the bizarre
- 18:13Speaker 3: thing is We've seen democrats who, also insist and one
- 18:16Speaker 3: of the more absurd things, they've, said well in light
- 18:21Speaker 3: Of The spring court decision that discriminating based on race,
- 18:24Speaker 3: is unconstitutional You've seen Democrats Saying south carolina will never
- 18:29Speaker 3: ever Elect An african American. To, CONGRESS now i have
- 18:34Speaker 3: to admit when, THAT happened i Pulled. OUT twitter i
- 18:38Speaker 3: like when you.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Get your little snarky tweets. OUT there i knew as
- 18:42Speaker 1: SOON as I said i was waiting for a countdown
- 18:43Speaker 1: clock until you did what. YOU did i could have
- 18:45Speaker 1: predicted that tweet and a. Moment's notice as SOON as
- 18:49Speaker 1: I saw i, WAS like i, can't wait and then
- 18:51Speaker 1: you did it to.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Keep, GOING yeah, i, said hey groc Who Is? Tim?
- 18:55Speaker 3: Scott yeah and Why did democrats believe he's? Not Black So? Tim,

- 19:12Speaker 3: been re elected over and over and over Again In,
- 19:14Speaker 3: south carolina and yet To, the democrats he does not
- 19:18Speaker 3: count as black because if You're, a republican suddenly, you're
- 19:22Speaker 3: white it. Doesn't matter and mind you and. Their view

- 19:38Speaker 1: them around because they, were saying you're taking away, this
- 19:41Speaker 1: Seat That african americans are, being Distringe and, i'm like

- 19:58Speaker 3: And a second year, or, so saying as a result
- 20:01Speaker 3: Of The supreme, court, decision yes a, white Guy, a
- 20:05Speaker 3: democrat is going, to lose likely to a, black woman to.
- 20:09Speaker 1: A black single mother who is who lost a family
- 20:12Speaker 1: member to violent Crime.
- 20:13Speaker 3: In memphis And the democrats, position, is yes defeating A

- 20:23Speaker 3: racist against, Black people like how do, you, say, no,
- 20:27Speaker 3: no no this white liberal is blacker than This Actual african.
- 20:31Speaker 3: American woman that that is, Their view and understand all
- 20:35Speaker 3: of their hysterics come down, To power like if you're
- 20:40Speaker 3: saying Abolish The Virginia supreme COURT because i don't like what,
- 20:43Speaker 3: they rule and by, the way we, appointed them but
- 20:46Speaker 3: we still don't like how. They rule so if you
- 20:48Speaker 3: don't rule in a way that keeps us, in power
- 20:51Speaker 3: we will burn down the foundations of.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Our government, that is that's.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Just sad, as before if you want to hear the
- 21:00Speaker 1: rest of this conversation on, this topic you can go
- 21:03Speaker 1: back and dow the podcast from earlier this week to
- 21:06Speaker 1: hear the. ENTIRE thing i want to get back to
- 21:09Speaker 1: the big story number three of. The week you may,
- 21:11Speaker 1: have missed, All, RIGHT senata i want to talk about
- 21:14Speaker 1: the president's big Trip, to china and specifically you add,
- 21:20Speaker 1: some notes, some requests some advocacy For some americans that
- 21:24Speaker 1: are being held and this was a really big moment
- 21:27Speaker 1: that people should be.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Talking, about yeah so this was a meaningful. Legislative week
- 21:33Speaker 3: we've already talked about the. Two victories we Had The
- 21:35Speaker 3: Senate judiciary committee passing TWO bills. I authored we had
- 21:39Speaker 3: a third victory On the, senate floor which is The
- 21:41Speaker 3: entire senate passed a RESOLUTION that i authored Along With,
- 21:45Speaker 3: Dick durbin Democrat, from illinois Concerning The president's china trip
- 21:50Speaker 3: and in particular urging the president to prioritize the release of,
- 21:55Speaker 3: political prisoners the release of people who are wrongfully Imprisoned,
- 21:58Speaker 3: in China Including, jimmy lai who's the great democracy Activist In.
- 22:03Speaker 3: HONG kong I Met jimmy lai when WHEN when i
- 22:06Speaker 3: Traveled To, HONG kong i met.
- 22:07Speaker 2: With him his health.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Is failing he is being imprisoned Because The chinese communist
- 22:12Speaker 3: government views him as a threat to their. COMMUNIST depression
- 22:16Speaker 3: uh and and then also focusing On the christian pastors
- 22:19Speaker 3: And Including Pastor ezra's in who have, been targeted who have.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Been arrested china has been cracking Down on. Christian pastors
- 22:28Speaker 3: And So dick DURBIN and i together introduced. This resolution
- 22:32Speaker 3: we took it To the senate floor and this week
- 22:34Speaker 3: it passed one hundred. To nothing so The, entire senate
- 22:37Speaker 3: with a, bipartisan voice Urged the president prioritize the releasing
- 22:42Speaker 3: of these. Political prisoners it.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Matters how much, POLITICAL uh i think pressure in a
- 22:49Speaker 1: positive way does that create for the conversation? That happened
- 22:53Speaker 1: because when when when when you meet with an Adversary,
- 22:55Speaker 1: Like china and if you've ever been around, THESE meetings
- 22:59Speaker 1: i was around a couple, of them And the bush is.
- 23:01Speaker 1: SECOND term a lot of it is very. Much scripted
- 23:04Speaker 1: You Have state department that gets with their equivalent Of The.
- 23:06Speaker 1: State department they decide what will and will not be
- 23:09Speaker 1: talked about the table and. These meetings but when you
- 23:11Speaker 1: have one hundred and, nothing vote You Have, dick durbin
- 23:13Speaker 1: you Have you and is that GIVING the amo extra
- 23:17Speaker 1: To the president, saying hey you've got all Of The
- 23:20Speaker 1: United states congress. Behind you it gives you a reason
- 23:22Speaker 1: even if you need to, in essence to break protocol
- 23:25Speaker 1: on what's been agreed to in the meetings, and, say
- 23:27Speaker 1: hey this just happened and we got to talk.
- 23:29Speaker 2: About.
- 23:29Speaker 3: It, yeah no that's. Exactly right and this is SOMETHING
- 23:34Speaker 3: when i put this resolution on, The floor i'm working
- 23:37Speaker 3: in coordination With The, white house with, the administration And
- 23:41Speaker 3: the president had already indicated an openness to raising these.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Political prisoners and what this does is give him. Additional
- 23:49Speaker 3: ammunition it lets him Say, to, ji Look the senate
- 23:54Speaker 3: one hundred. To nothing we may have political disagreements in
- 23:57Speaker 3: our country and, other topics but not. On this every Every,
- 24:00Speaker 3: single senator from the most conservative to the, most liberal
- 24:03Speaker 3: they're all on the. Same PAGE and i use an
- 24:05Speaker 3: example that's actually a very, similar circumstance Which Is. Mark
- 24:09Speaker 3: Swedan So mark swedan uh Is a texan who was
- 24:14Speaker 3: wrongfully Imprisoned in china for over. Ten years he was thrown,
- 24:17Speaker 3: in prison his health, failed BADLY and i led the
- 24:22Speaker 3: fight In the senate for years To Free, mark swedan
- 24:26Speaker 3: including sitting down With the chinese ambassador in one, on
- 24:29Speaker 3: one leaning in, very hard Trying urging china to, release
- 24:34Speaker 3: him that that civilized countries don't keep. Political Prisoners joe
- 24:39Speaker 3: biden was president during much of, this time AND so
- 24:42Speaker 3: i Repeatedly Pressured president biden And The state department To Raise.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Mark Swedan mark sweden's mom is it Lives. IN texas
- 24:53Speaker 3: i talked to her, multiple TIMES and i did the.
- 24:55Speaker 3: SAME thing i introduced a resolution calling for the Release Of,
- 25:00Speaker 3: mark swedan and it Passed the senate just like this
- 25:02Speaker 3: one did one hundred and nothing that gives, real force
- 25:05Speaker 3: and it Ended Up joe biden followed through and. Pressed
- 25:10Speaker 3: It The state department, followed through and finally the pressure
- 25:13Speaker 3: was Enough that China Released. Mark swedan so he is
- 25:16Speaker 3: no longer In a. Chinese prison he has. Been released he.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Came back, in fact he came to. MY office i
- 25:22Speaker 3: had the opportunity to meet him and. Embrace him and
- 25:24Speaker 3: this is someone who FOR years i was speaking his
- 25:27Speaker 3: name and demanding. His release and it's, you know often
- 25:32Speaker 3: when you're dealing with with with a government Like The chinese,
- 25:35Speaker 3: communist government it's a question of ratcheting up pressure and
- 25:40Speaker 3: any one step typically is. Not enough but the more
- 25:45Speaker 3: pressure you, put on the more leverage you, put on
- 25:48Speaker 3: the more likely they are. To comply so, you know
- 25:52Speaker 3: here's what the, resolution said expressing the sense Of the
- 25:55Speaker 3: senate That the president should prioritize securing the Release Of Pastor,
- 25:59Speaker 3: Jin Mengri Pastor guau guangfu and, His, Wife Pangju, jimmy
