Latest / The Ben Ferguson Podcast / Hur. Milton Update: DeSantis Says GET OUT while Harris & Media Play Politics
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Kamala Harris doing late night TV as a deadly hurricane
- 0:05Speaker 1: is about to hit Florida. I said this on Fox
- 0:09Speaker 1: News Channel on out Numbered that if you are a
- 0:12Speaker 1: leader right now, the way that Kamala Harris is acting,
- 0:16Speaker 1: the show, she's doing, the conversation she's having in New
- 0:20Speaker 1: York City is not the way that an actual leader leads.
- 0:25Speaker 1: She is the Vice President of the United States of America,
- 0:28Speaker 1: and what is she doing. She's going on podcasts like
- 0:31Speaker 1: Call Her Daddy, She's going on late night comedy shows
- 0:35Speaker 1: while she should be warning the American people about what
- 0:38Speaker 1: is about to happen in Florida. To put in perspective,
- 0:44Speaker 1: Florida's Attorney General told residents to write their names on
- 0:50Speaker 1: their bodies if they don't evacuate. The Florida Attorney General,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Ashley Moody, said ahead of Hurricane Milton's landfall that if
- 1:02Speaker 1: you don't get out and you know you're in an
- 1:04Speaker 1: area that's going to get hit, then you need to
- 1:08Speaker 1: understand exactly what you're doing. We cannot predict exactly the
- 1:13Speaker 1: storm surge in some areas, they're predicting fifteen feet. If
- 1:19Speaker 1: you're in an evacuation zone, you probably need to write
- 1:22Speaker 1: your name and permanent mark on your arm so that
- 1:24Speaker 1: people know who they are when they get to you afterwards.
- 1:29Speaker 1: The warning is one of many from Florida officials urging
- 1:33Speaker 1: people in evacuation zones to leave their homes immediately. Hurricane Milton,
- 1:38Speaker 1: which is currently a Category four storm, is expecting to
- 1:40Speaker 1: make landfall on the west coast of Florida later tonight. Quote.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I have urged everyone currently located in Hurricane Milton's path
- 1:50Speaker 1: to listen to local officials and follow safety instructions. If
- 1:54Speaker 1: you're under evacuation orders, you should evacuate now. Even President
- 1:59Speaker 1: Biden's saying that it's a matter of life and death,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and that is not a hyperbowl. It's a matter of
- 2:05Speaker 1: life and death. And I want to give credit to
- 2:08Speaker 1: President Biden for being presidential in this moment. But what
- 2:13Speaker 1: is the Vice president doing. She's out there doing softball
- 2:16Speaker 1: interviews and cackling with the ladies of the view. Here's
- 2:20Speaker 1: what I said on out Numbered about it. I think
- 2:23Speaker 1: one of the most shocking points of her schedule is
- 2:26Speaker 1: there are people right now that are watching TV, that
- 2:29Speaker 1: are watching her that are probably going to end up
- 2:32Speaker 1: dying in this hurricane your job. And I go back
- 2:35Speaker 1: to Katrina and I say that because it's important when
- 2:38Speaker 1: we watch Katrina and there were people playing politics in
- 2:41Speaker 1: on August twenty seventh, twenty eight, twenty ninth, and it
- 2:44Speaker 1: was political. It was we're not going to declare some emergency,
- 2:47Speaker 1: President Bush, We're not going to sit in the National Guard.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I'm not going to let you have power. They were
- 2:51Speaker 1: playing politics. You can't tell me that going on a
- 2:55Speaker 1: Call Her Daddy podcast when people are suffering is going
- 2:59Speaker 1: to help people. And more important than that, you cannot
- 3:01Speaker 1: tell me that Kamala Harris going on late night when
- 3:04Speaker 1: she should be saying to the people that are in
- 3:07Speaker 1: the wake of the storm that it's going to be
- 3:08Speaker 1: coming through, get out and listen to the local authorities.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Get out now.
- 3:13Speaker 1: She could save lives right now, but instead she's laughing.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Yeah. I think Jesse Water said it best.
- 3:18Speaker 1: People are trying to call FEMA right now, not call
- 3:20Speaker 1: her Daddy.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I mean, that's the reality of what.
- 3:22Speaker 2: We're dealing with.
- 3:23Speaker 1: This is what leaders should not be doing. They should
- 3:29Speaker 1: not be doing these types of interviews. She should be
- 3:32Speaker 1: down there with FEMA, she should be at the briefings.
- 3:35Speaker 1: She should be telling people to get out. She should
- 3:37Speaker 1: be telling people that there's no one that's going to
- 3:40Speaker 1: be able to get to you to save you. That
- 3:43Speaker 1: is what she should be saying. I said this yesterday
- 3:49Speaker 1: and I'll say it again today. Go outside and look
- 3:53Speaker 1: at a basketball goal. If you're in Ford in the
- 3:55Speaker 1: wake of this hurricane, can you survive water at the rim?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Can you add another five feet on top of that
- 4:04Speaker 1: in some of these areas, and can you survive that?
- 4:08Speaker 1: To put in perspective, also, just so you understand what
- 4:12Speaker 1: this looks like, the National Weather Service has revamped the
- 4:16Speaker 1: hurricane rating system that does away with storm surge effects
- 4:20Speaker 1: of each category. The new scale, called the Simpson Hurricane
- 4:26Speaker 1: Wind Scale, will use wind as the only determining factor.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Category one seventy four to ninety five mile per hour
- 4:36Speaker 1: winds very dangerous. Wins with that produce some damage. What
- 4:41Speaker 1: is the Category two up to one hundred and ten
- 4:44Speaker 1: mile per hour winds extremely dangerous will cause extensive damage.
- 4:49Speaker 1: What is the Category three one hundred and eleven to
- 4:50Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty nine miles per hour devastating damage
- 4:54Speaker 1: will occur? What can happen?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Then?
- 4:57Speaker 1: Your roof can come off your house easily. We're to
- 5:01Speaker 1: category four right now. What happens, catastrophic damage will occur.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Your entire house could be blown away with you in it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Category five wins more than one hundred and fifty seven
- 5:13Speaker 1: miles per hour. What happens, businesses, homes, buildings completely wiped
- 5:20Speaker 1: down to the foundation, and that foundation underwater in many
- 5:25Speaker 1: areas ten to fifteen feet of water. I don't care
- 5:31Speaker 1: who you are. I don't care how much you say
- 5:34Speaker 1: I ain't leaving. Is it really worth your life? And
- 5:38Speaker 1: I say that to people that may listen to this
- 5:41Speaker 1: show that are in the path of the storm. Get
- 5:44Speaker 1: out while you still can, Get out while you still can.
- 5:52Speaker 1: The Governor DeSantis making it clear there's not It's not
- 5:57Speaker 1: like just because you wear a bad that you're some
- 6:00Speaker 1: sort of of you know, Superman. Hurricane Milton is expected
- 6:07Speaker 1: double in size before landfall. Yeah, you may be in
- 6:12Speaker 1: a humvy, but if the water is at fifteen feet,
- 6:15Speaker 1: the humv can't get to you. You can't fly a
- 6:19Speaker 1: helicopter if you're stuck on your roof with one hundred
- 6:22Speaker 1: and fifty mile in hour winds or one hundred and
- 6:23Speaker 1: thirty or one hundred and twenty So they're going to
- 6:26Speaker 1: have to wait for the hurricane to disappear to leave
- 6:29Speaker 1: the area before they can even try to come get you.
- 6:34Speaker 1: This is one of those moments where leaders lead. This
- 6:38Speaker 1: is one of those moments where you find out who
- 6:40Speaker 1: the great leaders are. The path of this Category four storm,
- 6:45Speaker 1: projected to make landfall near Tampa, Florida, has shifted a
- 6:48Speaker 1: little bit. What we know now is that it has
- 6:52Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty five mile per hour sustained winds.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Milton is expected to remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane
- 7:00Speaker 1: when it reaches the west central coast of Florida tonight.
- 7:03Speaker 1: The National Hurricanes interceded it's briefing, urging that preparations, including evacuations,
- 7:09Speaker 1: if told to do so, should be rushed to completion.
- 7:13Speaker 1: This morning. There are now fifty one different counties in
- 7:17Speaker 1: the state of Florida under a state of emergency, with
- 7:20Speaker 1: millions being urged to evacuate as Milton game steam along
- 7:23Speaker 1: its path towards the Tampa Bay area by the numbers.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Governor DeSantis giving an update on safety precautions in place
- 7:33Speaker 1: in place ahead of Milton's landfall. As he described it,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you're in these fifty one counties. You're in these areas
- 7:40Speaker 1: where we're telling you to get out, Get out. FORDA
- 7:43Speaker 1: is actively fulfilling one thy five hundred missions to deliver food,
- 7:47Speaker 1: water generators, and other necessities. They say. There's eleven thousand
- 7:51Speaker 1: feet of flood protection systems that have been erected around
- 7:54Speaker 1: critical infrastructure like hospitals an electric infrastructure. They say nearly
- 8:00Speaker 1: one million gallons of gasoline have been dispatched from various
- 8:03Speaker 1: Florida ports with one hundred and six long distance fuel
- 8:07Speaker 1: tankers that are escorts and ready to go. One point
- 8:11Speaker 1: six million gallons of diesel and one point one million
- 8:14Speaker 1: gallons of gasoline are on hand in the state's fuel reserves.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Fifty five thousand cubic yards or three thousand truckloads of
- 8:22Speaker 1: debris from Hurricane Helena have been removed from areas, hoping
- 8:25Speaker 1: that it will make it easier to get to the
- 8:27Speaker 1: people after this second hurricane comes through. Twenty six total
- 8:32Speaker 1: search and rescue teams are enabled in these storm impacted
- 8:36Speaker 1: areas that can begin immediate rescue operations when the storm passes,
- 8:40Speaker 1: but make no mistake, while this storm is there, they
- 8:43Speaker 1: will not be able to come get you. And more
- 8:46Speaker 1: than six thousand Florida National Guardsmen have been deployed. DeSantis
- 8:51Speaker 1: called it the largest Florida National Guard search and rescue
- 8:54Speaker 1: mobilization the entire history of the state of Florida, and
- 8:57Speaker 1: nearly two hundred foid to state guardsmen have been deployed
- 9:00Speaker 1: as well. There's also another ridiculous part of this story,
- 9:06Speaker 1: and it deals with the insanity that Kamala Harris has
- 9:09Speaker 1: decided to use this moment with this hurricane to attack
- 9:14Speaker 1: Governor DeSantis down in Florida. Now, to be clear, Kamala
- 9:18Speaker 1: Harris has never called Governor DeSantis before and when there
- 9:22Speaker 1: was any other disaster. In fact, it's not even her role.
- 9:26Speaker 1: If you're Governor de Santis, your job to speak to
- 9:28Speaker 1: the President of United States of America, and he's been
- 9:30Speaker 1: speaking with the President of the United States of America.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But Kamala Harris is using this moment to attack Republicans.
- 9:37Speaker 1: She was on the tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base
- 9:41Speaker 1: when she decided to start the attack on Governor DeSantis,
- 9:45Speaker 1: saying I tried to call him, he didn't take my call.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Why because Governor de Santis, by the way, he didn't
- 9:50Speaker 1: refuse to take her call. That's a lie. It's a lie,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and she's about to tell you a lie. Listen to
- 9:56Speaker 1: Harris in her own words.
- 9:59Speaker 3: STA NBC has reporting Governor DeSantis is ignoring your calls
- 10:03Speaker 3: on hurricanes, resources and help.
- 10:07Speaker 2: How does that hurt the situation here? You know, moments
- 10:13Speaker 2: of crisis, if nothing else, should really be the moment
- 10:18Speaker 2: that anyone who calls themselves a leader says they're going
- 10:21Speaker 2: to put politics aside as the people first. People aren't desperate,
- 10:25Speaker 2: need to support right now, and playing political games at
- 10:28Speaker 2: this moment in these crisis situations, these are the height
- 10:32Speaker 2: of emergency situations. It's just utterly irresponsible and it is
- 10:36Speaker 2: selfish and it is about political gamesmanship instead of doing
- 10:41Speaker 2: the job that you saydn't know what to do, which
- 10:43Speaker 2: is to put the people first.
- 10:46Speaker 1: This is not what leaders do, by the way, try
- 10:49Speaker 1: to score political points. What's interesting is when all this
- 10:54Speaker 1: fake controversy came up, Ron DeSantis was asked about this
- 10:58Speaker 1: at a press conference. Now, the the fact that he's
- 11:01Speaker 1: even having to answers questions. He has FEMA behind him,
- 11:03Speaker 1: National Guard behind him, he has meteorologists behind him, he
- 11:07Speaker 1: has all of these people in state agencies behind him.
- 11:10Speaker 1: He's trying to tell the people two days before this
- 11:13Speaker 1: storm's going to hit, get out, listen to us. We
- 11:19Speaker 1: need to make sure that you're able to save your life.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And Ron DeSantis was asked a question, right because ABC
- 11:26Speaker 1: News wants this to be a political thing, they're trying
- 11:29Speaker 1: to hurt DeSantis. I guess Trump, they're trying to turn
- 11:32Speaker 1: this into a political thing instead of saving lives. And
- 11:34Speaker 1: here's when he's asked the question. And listen to what
- 11:36Speaker 1: he says, saying, you're.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Not aware of that, and if so, how are you
- 11:39Speaker 2: not aware of that?
- 11:40Speaker 3: So Biden called me a couple of days ago with
- 11:42Speaker 3: Helene when I was on the helicopter. I didn't have
- 11:45Speaker 3: any issues. They had helped us with what we've done.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm not aware that he's tried to call since then,
- 11:50Speaker 3: certainly hasn't called my phone, so I don't know quite
- 11:53Speaker 3: where they're getting that information. At the same time, we
- 11:55Speaker 3: got the approvals that we need. If there's something else
- 11:58Speaker 3: that we need, you know, I'll hop on the phone
- 12:00Speaker 3: very quickly, whether that's a FEMA administrator or the President
- 12:03Speaker 3: UH and we will press the case to be able
- 12:06Speaker 3: to get approvals for what we need. In Florida. But
- 12:08Speaker 3: we have gotten approvals for everything that we've asked for.
- 12:13Speaker 3: As far as Harris can you go, I didn't know
- 12:16Speaker 3: that she had called, so I'm not sure who they called.
- 12:18Speaker 3: They didn't call me, and their characterization of it was
- 12:22Speaker 3: something that they did wasn't anything that anybody in my
- 12:26Speaker 3: office did in terms of saying that it was political.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Given the severity this tomorrow, Athletes, since I did want
- 12:32Speaker 4: to ask you about about politics right now in terms
- 12:34Speaker 4: of should should.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I don't want to answer questions about this is not
- 12:38Speaker 3: a time for politics, No excuse me, Gary, You and
- 12:41Speaker 3: your publication will twist anything that's done to try to
- 12:46Speaker 3: make a political agenda. That's what you do. That's how
- 12:48Speaker 3: you get your clicks. I understand that. I understand that's
- 12:51Speaker 3: the business model. Well but but I don't want to
- 12:53Speaker 3: talk about politics because, well but I have a feeling
- 12:58Speaker 3: that however you do, you guys will find a way
- 13:00Speaker 3: to frame it. That's just your stick. I get it.
- 13:02Speaker 3: It's fine, but I don't want to participate in it.
- 13:05Speaker 3: We have had to respond to a Category four hurricane.
- 13:08Speaker 3: We've had to prepare and now respond to something that
- 13:11Speaker 3: may hit as a major hurricane. Maybe Category four may
- 13:15Speaker 3: even be bigger than that. We hope that it does,
- 13:18Speaker 3: but that should be the focus. And I think some
- 13:21Speaker 3: of these questions are trying to create some type of
- 13:24Speaker 3: political angle where there's just none there. What we've asked
- 13:27Speaker 3: for has been approved. You're not seeing me out there
- 13:30Speaker 3: carping or complaining about anything. We have gotten what we
- 13:33Speaker 3: need from the Feds. We have been working constructively with
- 13:36Speaker 3: all the local communities. We have marshaled an incredible amount
- 13:40Speaker 3: of resources in the state of Florida to be able
- 13:43Speaker 3: to get the job done. And that's just what we're
- 13:46Speaker 3: going to continue to do. That's what we've always done
- 13:49Speaker 3: when it comes to these types of situations.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Governor de Santis not taking the bait there, And by
- 13:53Speaker 1: the way Joe Biden put out it, it was asked
- 13:56Speaker 1: a question about DeSantis as well, backing that there's no
- 14:00Speaker 1: place for politics, as Kamala Harris is turning this into
- 14:03Speaker 1: a political issue, trying to score points even and I
- 14:07Speaker 1: think this was clearly a shot at her, a little
- 14:09Speaker 1: bit like, hey, stop acting like you're the president. You're not.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'm the president. Listen to Joe Biden about his conversations
- 14:16Speaker 1: with Governor DeSantis.
- 14:27Speaker 4: The governor of Florida, has been cooperative. He said he's
- 14:31Speaker 4: gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again
- 14:33Speaker 4: yesterday and I said, I said, no, you're doing a
- 14:37Speaker 4: great job. Is being all being done? Well, we thank
- 14:40Speaker 4: you for it. And I literally gave my personal phone
- 14:43Speaker 4: number to call. So I don't know there was a
- 14:47Speaker 4: rough start in some places, but every governor, every governor
- 14:51Speaker 4: from Florida to North Carolina has been fully cooperative and
- 14:55Speaker 4: supportive and acknowledged what this team is doing. And they're
- 14:59Speaker 4: doing an incredible job. We've got a lot more than Jews.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I mean, you listen to him there and it's like
- 15:05Speaker 1: he's even saying, what are you doing? Like, what are
- 15:09Speaker 1: you doing right now? The number one issue should be
- 15:15Speaker 1: making sure that people's lives are saved, not trying to
- 15:21Speaker 1: score political points on the view, which is exactly what
- 15:24Speaker 1: just happened. Governor DeSantis also a moment ago at another
- 15:31Speaker 1: briefing saying, you guys are just barking up the wrong
- 15:38Speaker 1: tree right now. Help us get out information to save
- 15:43Speaker 1: people's lives. Stop trying to turn this into a bunch
- 15:46Speaker 1: of politics.
- 15:47Speaker 4: I was telling people not towe evacuate because there's some
- 15:51Speaker 4: collusion between FEMA and a security team that would let
- 15:53Speaker 4: people back into the home that was obviously Guys, listen, listen.
- 15:57Speaker 3: I think most people are wise to this. You know,
- 16:00Speaker 3: we live in an era where if you put out
- 16:03Speaker 3: crap online, you can get a lot of people to
- 16:06Speaker 3: share it and you can monetize that. That's just the
- 16:09Speaker 3: way it is. But if you're hearing things something that's
- 16:13Speaker 3: just outrageous, just no. And in state of Florida, none
- 16:16Speaker 3: of that stuff would ever fly, So you don't have
- 16:18Speaker 3: to worry about that. FEMA is not leading this show.
- 16:21Speaker 3: We are leading this show here in the state of Florida.
- 16:23Speaker 3: We're marshaling whatever assets are available to us. We're leveraging that.
- 16:27Speaker 3: But certainly with people evacuating. In my executive order I
- 16:31Speaker 3: put in on Saturday that the default is you have
- 16:34Speaker 3: a right to immediately return to your home following the storm. Now,
- 16:39Speaker 3: there may be some circumstances that are not usual, but
- 16:44Speaker 3: I mean, if a bridge is about to collapse, if
- 16:46Speaker 3: there's real massive hazards, if there's active rescues going on,
- 16:51Speaker 3: but the default is you get back. You can't just say, oh,
- 16:54Speaker 3: we're just going to keep people off for for forty
- 16:56Speaker 3: eight hours because we think it'll be easier to clean
- 16:57Speaker 3: up to breed. No no, no, no, this is your property,
- 17:01Speaker 3: this is your home. You have a right to go back.
- 17:03Speaker 3: So that's in our executive order. That'll be something that
- 17:06Speaker 3: we did that we worked towards to make sure that
- 17:09Speaker 3: that's the case. It's important that people are able to
- 17:12Speaker 3: get back. And I'd also know, you know, we talk
- 17:14Speaker 3: about the debris. Get all this debris right. These contractors,
- 17:17Speaker 3: some of them were doing a lousy job, others were,
- 17:20Speaker 3: and we decided to take it on ourselves to go
- 17:22Speaker 3: really surge people and supplement that. But by keeping the
- 17:25Speaker 3: landfills open twenty fore, there was a lot of private
- 17:28Speaker 3: citizens that were going cleaning up debris.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm going to stop there because getting the debris now
- 17:34Speaker 1: and these answering the question. But even Democrats down in Florida,
- 17:39Speaker 1: one of them put it this way, much as I
- 17:41Speaker 1: dislike him, referring to the Santis, Florida emergency managers regularly
- 17:45Speaker 1: update on TV network radio telling people where to go
- 17:49Speaker 1: and the numbers. A call about an hour ago, he
- 17:51Speaker 1: said people can still evacuate and cross bridges, but they
- 17:54Speaker 1: will be shut down in the afternoon. There's no excuse
- 17:58Speaker 1: for I had to stay on my boat. And now
- 18:01Speaker 1: he's actually out there organizing the biggest group of linesmen
- 18:06Speaker 1: to come and restore power afterwards. In the history of Florida,
- 18:10Speaker 1: what is Kamala Harris trying to do? Trying to demean
- 18:13Speaker 1: Governor DeSantis about a phone call while he's dealing with
- 18:16Speaker 1: not one, but two hurricanes, a phone call Kamala harrislied
- 18:20Speaker 1: about that was apparently never made. And even the President
- 18:24Speaker 1: Joe Biden praising DeSantis doing a great job with the hurricanes,
- 18:29Speaker 1: understanding this is not a time for politics.
