- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning, I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan.
- 0:18And you're listening to Connecting the Dots,
- 0:20live from the Snarfl Solutions Group headquarters
- 0:22right here in Sacramento. And we have a wild
- 0:26lineup today. We're going to be connecting high
- 0:28finance, a really tragic safety debate. And believe
- 0:33it or not, high concept physical comedy. Exactly.
- 0:37It feels less like a news day and more like a
- 0:39strange avant garde movie script. It really does.
- 0:42And the weather outside kind of matches that
- 0:44vibe, doesn't it? Oh, for sure. If you're local,
- 0:46you know what we're talking about. It is just.
- 0:48Soup out there. We're under a dense fog advisory
- 0:51until noon today. That's Wednesday, January 21st
- 0:552026 seriously I could barely see the parking
- 0:58lot entrance this morning So please if you're
- 1:00driving in the valley keep those headlights on
- 1:02take it slow and it's not just us We're seeing
- 1:04a huge Arctic blast hitting a lot of you listening
- 1:07in the Midwest and on the East Coast right heavy
- 1:10snow over the Great Lakes Dangerous wind chills
- 1:13moving down from the northern plains And there's
- 1:15a huge winter storm brewing for the Southern
- 1:18Rockies expected to hit on Friday. So wherever
- 1:21you are, please stay warm and stay safe. Definitely.
- 1:24And while the weather is all over the place,
- 1:26the markets are, well, they seem to be holding
- 1:28their breath. Yeah, we're watching the Dow, the
- 1:30NASDAQ, and of course, Bitcoin. The numbers are
- 1:33bouncing around a bit too much to give you a
- 1:35solid quote, but the feeling is just anticipation.
- 1:38It feels like the calm before a storm. Which
- 1:41is pretty fitting. considering the news we're
- 1:43about to get into. Absolutely. But before we
- 1:45do, let's talk about something a little more
- 1:46fun. We've got a great sponsor today, perfect
- 1:49for that techie friend or, you know, the music
- 1:52fan in your life. Oh yeah, Old Glory. They are
- 1:55just an iconic spot for fan merch. The best.
- 1:58And since we're all stuck inside with this weather,
- 2:00it's a great time to grab some new gear. They're
- 2:02also giving our listeners a great deal. What
- 2:04is it? Use the promo code SNARFL, that's S -N
- 2:07-A -R -F -U -L, at checkout, and you'll get 15
- 2:11% off your entire purchase. That's a solid deal.
- 2:14Just head over to OldGlory .com. Simple enough.
- 2:17All right, let's open up the Morningstar, our
- 2:18SNARFL Tech article report. We've got three stories
- 2:21today that connect some very strange dots. We're
- 2:25starting with a really heavy one. It's this escalating
- 2:28public feud between Elon Musk and Sam Altman.
- 2:31Right, this has been simmering for years, obviously.
- 2:33There were co -founders at OpenAI way back in
- 2:352015. But this week, it just spilled out into
- 2:39the open and it got dark. It got very dark, very
- 2:41fast. Yeah. This all happened on X, of course.
- 2:44Musk put out this post, and it wasn't just a
- 2:46business critique, it was a public safety warning.
- 2:49He literally wrote, don't let your loved ones
- 2:51use chat GPT. Wow. That's a terrifying thing
- 2:55to hear from someone like him. What prompted
- 2:57that? He shared this post that claimed ChatGPT
- 3:00has been linked to nine deaths, with five of
- 3:03them being suicides. Oh my god. The core of it
- 3:06is this allegation that the chatbot was reinforcing
- 3:09the user's delusions, which led to these awful
- 3:13outcomes. We have to pause on that. We all know
- 3:15AI can hallucinate, you know, make up facts.
- 3:18But this is suggesting it's actively validating
- 3:20harmful thoughts. That's the claim. And it's
- 3:23not just a claim. There's some serious legal
- 3:27trouble brewing for OpenAI. I saw some of the
- 3:30numbers. They're staggering. Apparently something
- 3:33like 1 .2 million users discuss suicide with
- 3:37the bot every single week. 1 .2 million a week.
- 3:40The scale of that is... it's almost impossible
- 3:43to comprehend. That's not a software bug. That's
- 3:45a public health crisis. Exactly. And the courts
- 3:48are now getting involved. There were seven lawsuits
- 3:50filed back in November alone. Including that
- 3:52really disturbing homicide case in Connecticut,
- 3:55right? The man named Stein -Erik Solberg. That's
- 3:57the one. The allegation is that the bot validated
- 4:00his delusional beliefs right before he killed
- 4:02his mother and then himself. It's just tragic.
- 4:05And it raises this huge question of liability,
- 4:07right? Who's responsible when an algorithm does
- 4:09that? And Musk is using this to just hammer OpenAI's
- 4:12safety record. But of course, Sam Altman did
- 4:14not take that quietly. No, he fired right back.
- 4:16He did. He basically accused Musk of total hypocrisy,
- 4:19pointing out that, according to some data, more
- 4:21than 50 people have died in crashes that appear
- 4:24to be linked to Tesla's autopilot. So it's, you're
- 4:27attacking my AI safety record when your AI has
- 4:30its own body count. Precisely. Altman's point
- 4:33is that Musk complains when chat GPT is too restrictive.
- 4:37calls it woke. But then he turns around and says
- 4:39it's too relaxed when something like this happens.
- 4:42You can't have it both ways. It's just a grim
- 4:44situation. You have two of the most powerful
- 4:46people in technology, and they're fighting over
- 4:48whose products have killed fewer people. And
- 4:51all while Musk is still suing OpenAI for abandoning
- 4:54its nonprofit mission in the first place, this
- 4:57is just one more battle and a much larger war.
- 4:59A war for the future of AI. But speaking of that
- 5:02lawsuit, lawsuits need lawyers. And this is where
- 5:06the story takes a very, very strange turn. Oh,
- 5:08this might be the most surreal detail I've ever
- 5:10seen in a tech story. Let's talk about the man
- 5:13representing Elon Musk. His name is Jamie Parkinon.
- 5:16OK, so on paper, he's a high power IP lawyer
- 5:19at Tobroff & Associates. He is right in the thick
- 5:22of this legal battle. And in his spare time.
- 5:24He's a professional clown. OK, stop right there.
- 5:26I know what everyone's thinking. Red nose, big
- 5:28shoes, birthday parties. Right. And we have to
- 5:31be very clear. This is not that. This is. High
- 5:35-concept physical comedy. Think more like Buster
- 5:37Keaton or Charlie Chaplin. It's performance art.
- 5:39It is. And he's actually turned it into a business
- 5:42called Clown Cardio. Clown Cardio. I love it.
- 5:46It blew up after a New York Times piece on him
- 5:48in 2024. He's apparently getting requests to
- 5:51franchise it in Europe. That's incredible. But
- 5:54how does he connect those two worlds? I mean,
- 5:56clown and corporate litigator? They don't seem
- 5:59to overlap. Well, he says they do. He has this
- 6:02philosophy that litigation is performance. To
- 6:05him, the courtroom is a stage. You have to connect
- 6:08with your audience, the judge and jury, to find
- 6:10the truth. That's actually pretty profound. It
- 6:14is. And this guy isn't just some background player.
- 6:16He's the one who fought to subpoena Mir Moradi,
- 6:19the open AI executive. He is deep in the trenches.
- 6:22And wasn't he the one who wrote that letter to
- 6:24the court that got everyone talking? Oh, yeah.
- 6:26This is my favorite part. He wrote a letter claiming,
- 6:29with a straight face, that Elon Musk does not
- 6:32use a computer. The CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and
- 6:35XAI does not use a computer. That was the official
- 6:38legal argument during email discovery. You can't
- 6:41make this stuff up. It's like performance art
- 6:43bleeding into the legal filings. It really is.
- 6:46It just shows you the kind of unconventional
- 6:48people Musk likes to have around him. Absolutely.
- 6:51And that unconventional thinking takes us right
- 6:53into our final story. We're going from the courtroom
- 6:56circus to the launch pad. This is the big one.
- 6:59The rumor mill has been churning. We're talking
- 7:01about SpaceX. For years, this has been the story
- 7:04everyone in finance has been waiting for. We
- 7:06are hearing very credible reports that SpaceX
- 7:10is finally actually preparing for an IPO, an
- 7:14initial public offering. This is the white whale
- 7:16of the stock market. Musk always said he wouldn't
- 7:19do it right. He didn't want Wall Street's quarterly
- 7:22demands to interfere with the mission to Mars.
- 7:24He was very clear about that. But something has
- 7:27changed. Reports say SpaceX is holding what's
- 7:29called a bake off. OK, for those of us who don't
- 7:32speak Wall Street, what's a bake off? It just
- 7:34means they're meeting with all the big investment
- 7:36banks, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and the
- 7:39banks are pitching SpaceX on why they should
- 7:41be the ones to manage the IPO. The first real
- 7:44step. And the numbers being floated are just
- 7:47insane. A valuation of around one and a half
- 7:50trillion dollars. Trillion. With a T. That's
- 7:53bigger than the entire economy of those countries
- 7:55on Earth. If that valuation holds, it would almost
- 7:58certainly make Elon Musk the world's first trillionaire,
- 8:00but... Why now? What changed? You have to connect
- 8:04the dots back to that first story. The war with
- 8:06OpenAI. Ah, okay. How does that fit in? Musk
- 8:10is fighting on multiple fronts. His own AI company,
- 8:13XAI, is trying to catch up to OpenAI and Atropic.
- 8:17And to do that, you need cash. Billions and billions
- 8:20of dollars for chips and servers. And an ocean
- 8:22of cash. And a SpaceX IPO is the fastest way
- 8:25to get a massive injection of capital. It essentially
- 8:28turns SpaceX into a war chest to fund the AI
- 8:31arms race against Microsoft and Google. That
- 8:33makes perfect sense. It's not just about rockets
- 8:35anymore. Not at all. And SpaceX itself is in
- 8:37a perfect position. They have, what, almost 9
- 8:40,000 Starlink satellites up there? And the Starship
- 8:43Mega Rocket is planning to launch from Florida
- 8:45later this year, mid -2026. The timing is perfect.
- 8:49Yeah. And the market is already reacting to just
- 8:51the rumor. Stocks for other space companies rocket
- 8:55lab red wire. They're all surging It's that sector
- 8:57validator effect exactly when the biggest player
- 8:59says space is worth this much It lifts all the
- 9:03other boats and for you listening at home This
- 9:05is maybe the biggest part for the first time
- 9:07you the public. Yeah might be able to own a piece
- 9:11of SpaceX. It completely changes the game. It
- 9:14moves space exploration from a private venture
- 9:16for billionaires into something anyone with a
- 9:18brokerage account can invest in. Your 401k could
- 9:21have shares in the Mars mission. It's wild. We
- 9:23are living in a very strange, very expensive
- 9:26future litigated by clowns. It certainly is.
- 9:29Wow. OK, before we wrap this up, we have one
- 9:31more partner we need to tell you about. Yes,
- 9:33absolutely. We need to talk about Scony. If you're
- 9:35a golfer or if you just appreciate a really,
- 9:38really well -made shoe, you need to check them
- 9:40out. They make premium golf shoes that look so

- 9:54And you get 15 % off your entire order. You can
- 9:57find them at SCOENI .com. That's S -K -O -N -I
- 10:01dot com. Worth a look. OK, so let's do a quick
- 10:03recap. So first we have this grim safety feud
- 10:07between Musk and Altman. It's a sobering reminder
- 10:10that all this tech has real life or death consequences.
- 10:13Then we met the lawyer in the middle of it all,
- 10:15Jamie Parkinon, the clown lawyer who shows that
- 10:18the lines between performance and reality are
- 10:20getting very, very blurry. And finally, that
- 10:22potential $1 .5 trillion SpaceX IPO. It's set
- 10:26to possibly create the world's first trillionaire
- 10:29and open up the space economy to everyone. It's
- 10:32been a lot to unpack from the fog right here
- 10:34in Sacramento to the fog of war in the AI world.
- 10:37And all the way to outer space. These stories
- 10:39are moving fast and we will definitely keep watching.
- 10:42Absolutely. Well, thank you so much for tuning
- 10:44in with us this morning. We're here to help at
