- 0:00The B-Side and Boxing.
- 0:02B-Side shit.
- 0:03B-Side.
- 0:04B-Side.
- 0:05And the B-Side.
- 0:05You got a B-Side.
- 0:07The B-Side.
- 0:08B-Side.
- 0:08B-Side.
- 0:09B-Side.
- 0:10That B-Side thing.
- 0:11This is the B-Sides Boxing Podcast.
- 0:21Hey, if you're here, thanks for listening.
- 0:22This is the Boxing B-Sides Podcast.
- 0:25It's going to be structured a little bit differently than usual.
- 0:28Right now we're just going, we're doing a little bit of catch-up shit.
- 0:32It's been a little hectic over here.
- 0:33So this is all Japan.
- 0:36The three cars that happened that one weekend in October.
- 0:40So we'll cover those three.
- 0:43And that's pretty much it for this one.
- 0:45But we'll be back with more.
- 0:48Got to do a bit more of these catch-up ones before we get ourselves back into a regular rhythm.
- 0:51So here we go.
- 0:53Man, this Kiaguchi fight was a hell of a fight.
- 0:56Yeah, they're just like spamming power punches.
- 0:59It's wild.
- 1:00It's the, I think Japan-Philippians is a rivalry similar to Mexico-Puerto Rico.
- 1:06Yeah, for sure.
- 1:08They just go nuts.
- 1:09I wanted to see this fight so bad and it just impossible to do both.
- 1:14Man, I can see why Kiaguchi is struggling as he moves up in weight.
- 1:21He's tiny, tiny.
- 1:23He started off out.
- 1:24Like his amateur career was under 105.
- 1:28But I'm like even in pictures, like usually if it's just a person in a picture, you can't
- 1:35tell how tall they are.
- 1:36But you can tell on his Instagram just how small he is.
- 1:41Like he's got a French Bulldog and either it's the biggest French Bulldog ever or Kiaguchi
- 1:46is like tiny.
- 1:47Not a big person.
- 1:49That's probably the case.
- 1:52I'll add the cherry blossoms and stuff.
- 1:54I'm just like those trees don't get very tall.
- 2:00Do you want to roll?
- 2:01San's intro, I could just like fucking do one on the fly with the next one.
- 2:07With this.
- 2:08Sure.
- 2:09Okay, cool.
- 2:10I did just want to rag on you a little bit for having to re-record the podcast.
- 2:16Yeah.
- 2:17Yeah.
- 2:18Yeah.
- 2:19I'm like somebody forgot to hit save.
- 2:23Yeah, and closed the recording session without finalizing the recording.
- 2:29It's great.
- 2:31Go me.
- 2:32I'm really good at this.
- 2:33Very professional.
- 2:34And oh man, the All Japan Special.
- 2:38I have my fedora on.
- 2:41I got mine ready.
- 2:42I have an actual fedora, an expensive wool fedora that I bought at a very nice hat shop.
- 2:51Okay, let's get to the thing.
- 2:58Some stuff just to give a quick plug for the bros over at Ultimate Fucking Casual.
- 3:05This weekend on the 8th, this Friday, 1 FC 169 is happening.
- 3:10It's going to be headlined by Anatoly Malikin.
- 3:14God, why was that so fucking hard?
- 3:21He's the heavyweight MMA champ.
- 3:22He's fighting this big African dude who's not a very good wrestler, but like monstrous
- 3:28power.
- 3:29So should be interesting.
- 3:31Anatoly is a fucking maniac.
- 3:34He's a 3D division champion, went from middle up to light heavy, and now he's a heavyweight
- 3:38champ.
- 3:39It's pretty nuts.
- 3:41That's wild across any combat sport.
- 3:44Well maybe not so much boxing.
- 3:46It seems easier to get into heavyweight from a lower weight class in MMA.
- 3:51Yes.
- 3:52Are the heavies not as heavy?
- 3:54I don't know how to phrase that.
- 3:56They cap at 265.
- 3:58Oh, so it's not an open weight class.
- 4:02Nope.
- 4:03Ah, that's the difference.
- 4:04There's the same like Titanic sized people that are phenomena is happening in MMA as well,
- 4:13but there's also a lot of tubby dudes that need, they just need the weight to be able
- 4:20to be competitive.
- 4:21Right.
- 4:22No, for MMA stuff, some of the listeners might find it useful.
- 4:27I think I sent it to you.
- 4:29One Championship has fights on that YouNext broadcaster here in Japan.
- 4:36I think if you have a VPN, you can make just a free account and watch them night of.
- 4:42Yes.
- 4:44Fire up the VPN, head over to YouNext.
- 4:46Making an account is not difficult.
- 4:49Just look up an area code that's in Japan.
- 4:54Just have it handy.
- 4:56It really doesn't matter where it's from.
- 4:58Yeah.
- 4:59I saw that at least the Japanese card for one championship is going to be on there.
- 5:09And it's also on Amazon Prime.
- 5:11If you're a subscriber, you already have it here.
- 5:17And also on the ninth Saturday, UFC Fight Night card.
- 5:20It's not very good, but whatever.
- 5:23If you're into MMA, so much so that you're going to skip the boots and bam card, then
- 5:31there you go.
- 5:32You could go watch that fucking dumpster fire.
- 5:34I forgot that was this weekend.
- 5:36Yeah.
- 5:37Yeah.
- 5:38All right.
- 5:39Let's do our all Japan fucking fun.
- 5:44First one in Yokohama.
- 5:46This was on Sunday, October 13th.
- 5:50So it's put on by Treasure Boxing.
- 5:53I don't really have much other than the top two.
- 5:57Yeah.
- 5:58So in the co-main we had Hiroto Kyoguchi.
- 6:02This was flyweight.
- 6:03So he started at 105 and then moved up to 108.
- 6:06Had good success in those two divisions.
- 6:08Now he's up to 112.
- 6:10He gets the win back from Vince Paras.
- 6:12They had a fight earlier this year in Korea that he lost.
- 6:17Yeah.
- 6:18So Gucci is one of the ones that was on my list of people I wanted to see fight.
- 6:22And he's had two fights since I moved here.
- 6:25One in Korea and this one that was the same night as the Tsutsumi fight in Tokyo.
- 6:33So I just, I haven't been able to go see him.
- 6:37Makes me so sad.
- 6:38And this was a victory one too.
- 6:41It's a yeah.
- 6:42And close to where I live.
- 6:43Like Yokohama is only about two hours by train.
- 6:46As opposed to Tokyo.
- 6:49How far is that?
- 6:50Hour and a half.
- 6:51Okay.
- 6:52You actually go through Tokyo.
- 6:53Chiba is on the other side of Tokyo Bay.
- 6:55So I basically have to take the train around the water.
- 6:59That's I guess the majority decision.
- 7:00I'm watching it right now.
- 7:02We're in round eight of 10 so far and it's been, I expect that the first fight was like
- 7:09this as well.
- 7:10It's been a bit of a clobber fest, the Japan Philippines rivalry in full effect.
- 7:18Yeah.
- 7:19Small dude standing in the middle of the ring just throwing punches.
- 7:22Yep.
- 7:23Awesome.
- 7:24Which is why I wanted to see him.
- 7:25It looks like Paras here in round eight starting to work behind a jab a little bit but it's
- 7:31a little bit too late for that I think.
- 7:33All right.
- 7:34In the main event of this card fucking John Shithead Casimiro missed his weight.
- 7:41How much was it?
- 7:42Two, three pounds?
- 7:43It was significant for sure.
- 7:45I can't remember.
- 7:46It's been a while but yeah.
- 7:49Blue weight.
- 7:50Not like oh he missed it by a half a pound.
- 7:53Right.
- 7:54He didn't even try.
- 7:55So he misses 122 somehow, some way.
- 7:58He's still going to get the, he's still going to get to fight in a way.
- 8:02Oh this is even worse.
- 8:05So Boxwreck just has Casimiro failed to weigh in.
- 8:10Oh.
- 8:13So he blew weight the night before and never showed up for the re-weigh.
- 8:17Well that's fun.
- 8:18And was still allowed to compete.
- 8:21That's great.
- 8:22Yeah.
- 8:23Yeah well he's fucking Casimiro.
- 8:25I do not understand why people like this man.
- 8:29He bombs out Salo Sanchez in the first round.
- 8:33It was not pretty.
- 8:36Like Salo was in over his head and I think he figured that out pretty quickly.
- 8:40Now actually you've already heard the story because we recorded this once but I made a
- 8:47friend at the Tokyo boxing event and we watched the last round and the decision before the
- 8:56fight started in Tokyo.
- 8:58Oh yeah I did hear that before didn't I?
- 9:02Alright there you go.
- 9:06Casimiro gets the win.
- 9:08Fucking they're keeping in front of the Japan audience.
- 9:13He's one I'm surprised they keep letting him fight in Japan.
- 9:17If he's blowing weight like this I am surprised the Japanese boxing commission.
- 9:23I guess Casimiro is blowing weight against non-Japanese boxers so they don't care.
- 9:28That's exactly what I was about to say.
- 9:30This isn't a Japanese fighter so he can dishonor himself as much as he wants.
- 9:36Kind of bullshit.
- 9:38Selective enforcement.
- 9:39I love that shit.
- 9:42Moving on.
- 9:43The take-in card.
- 9:44This is the first of two.
- 9:45This one was in Tokyo.
- 9:47Can I start with since I attended this one my story about getting in.
- 9:54This one was at Ariaka arena.
- 9:57My first time going to Ariaka arena you actually have to take a bus because it's in basically
- 10:05reclaimed land.
- 10:07They built fake land into Tokyo Bay and that's this new area where this arena is.
- 10:13So I don't think there's any trains that go that way.
- 10:16I got there really early because the buses are super confusing.
- 10:19I was standing in line just killing time watching some of that other card over somebody's shoulder
- 10:25and being a creep in line.
- 10:29These people come around and start handing out tickets with numbers on them and they
- 10:33give me one.
- 10:34I understand none of it.
- 10:36But I did kind of get the idea that you had to show it at the gate and I was like okay
- 10:41cool I have a ticket but I guess this is you know something extra.
- 10:46I showed it at the gate and they just kind of looked at me like I was stupid and gave
- 10:50me a program.
- 10:52I went and found my seat.
- 10:54That's where I met my new friend.
- 10:59Somebody actually spoke English a little.
- 11:01Actually not a little.
- 11:02He speaks English quite well and we chatted and stuff and I asked him what this number
- 11:07was for and he says free t-shirts.
- 11:11They were just handing out I think 2000 free t-shirts or not 2000 sorry 200 free t-shirts.
- 11:18That's really cool.
- 11:19Yeah so I get in line and they even still had a large because Japanese sizes are tiny
- 11:28and the larges go pretty quick at the boxing events.
- 11:31But yeah free t-shirt for the doubleheader night.
- 11:35Just got the basically the poster that was on Amazon Prime on the front of the t-shirt.
- 11:42I thought that was pretty cool.
- 11:44That is cool.
- 11:45I would I wish that American events did that.
- 11:48I always show up for the untelevised fights and everything because if I pay you know not
- 11:55that it's super expensive here but if I pay $300 I'm gonna get as much out of it as I
- 11:59can.
- 12:00Yeah I like to be there for first fights too like when we went to the Bud Madrimov card.
- 12:08So that was something that we were like we were talking about when do we want to get
- 12:11there all things considered of when the doors open and stuff.
- 12:14I was like well I don't know about you guys but I plan to be there for the very first
- 12:19bell.
- 12:20Yeah well and I like to find my seat and figure out where the closest bathroom is and where
- 12:26the beard stand is and all that good stuff.
- 12:30But this fight or these two fights they actually had the beer girls in the stands like the
- 12:35baseball games here.
- 12:37They have cute girls in cute bright outfits that carry kegs on their back and pour you
- 12:43draft beer in the stands.
- 12:45Yeah I saw I don't remember where it was but I did see this thing of it was a day in the
- 12:51life of one of these beer girls at a Japanese event and how they have to like prepare themselves
- 12:57to have like a mini keg on their backs.
- 13:01It's not that mini like it's not like it's big.
- 13:06It's not a full keg but it's big.
- 13:08And they're not necessarily big women either.
- 13:12So starting the card the majority draw Ryuga Sato versus Asato Sato.
- 13:18That's fucking wonderful.
- 13:19Get keep doing that with that name.
- 13:22What was the deal here?
- 13:23It's a four round bantam weights Ryuga comes in 1 and 0.
- 13:27Asato is 1 1 and 1.
- 13:30So pretty inexperienced.
- 13:32Was Ryuga the guy they're pushing?
- 13:35Yeah I think so.
- 13:38This was just a kind of amateurish Japan fight.
- 13:44They just stood in the center and swung.
- 13:48There wasn't a whole lot to take away from this fight other than it was good action for
- 13:52the 200 people that had gotten there in time for it.
- 13:57Moving up Seigo Yuri Akui split decision over Tanan-shai Charyunpak.
- 14:05Twelve round fly weights.
- 14:07This is one of the M150 guys.
- 14:09I honestly don't remember a whole bunch about this one.
- 14:14It was really competitive.
- 14:15Like I remember thinking the split decision was fair.
- 14:19I think this was probably just an all actiony one as well.
- 14:23This is the only televised one that wasn't a world title this night.
- 14:28So moving up Kenshiro Toraji gets the WBC flyweight title.
- 14:34Dr. Stoppage at the end of 11.
- 14:38Christopher Rosales that was just a wonderful fight.
- 14:42It wouldn't be unreasonable.
- 14:43This was fun.
- 14:44Yeah they could do it again and it would be fine.
- 14:48It was that good.
- 14:49The stoppage it was unfortunate that they at the end of 11 going into the 12th like
- 14:55come on man.
- 14:58Give the guy his three minutes.
- 14:59But yeah and he wasn't going to win it anyways though.
- 15:03But he's still fighting.
- 15:07Toraji busted this guy's nose early on.
- 15:11Well not that early but early ish.
- 15:15But he was struggling and he just kept hammering on his broken nose.
- 15:20It was I rewatched the highlights and on TV it was pretty apparent that his nose was just
- 15:28a mess.
- 15:29Yeah understandable that it could be stopped but still in an instance like this this is
- 15:35one of like the few times where I would go against the doctor's suggestions or insistence
- 15:41like come on dude.
- 15:42It's three more minutes.
- 15:44He's not going to win but give him a shot.
- 15:47Yeah yeah I wasn't mad at the stoppage.
- 15:51Like I don't think it was home cooking or anything.
- 15:53But I was also surprised.
- 15:56Like Rosales was was fighting well.
- 15:59I was surprised the doctor stopped it.
- 16:01RIP Rosales.
- 16:04Hopefully we see you again though.
- 16:05All right moving up.
- 16:09So Kichi Iwata in the third over Jairo Noriega the Spaniard for the WBO light flyweight title.
- 16:19I have this one listed as Shadow Realm in three.
- 16:24Goodness gracious.
- 16:25Oh my god for these like light flyweights this is a hundred percent like knockout of
- 16:32the decade I think.
- 16:34This is crazy.
- 16:36What I liked most about this one not just that it was you know in the lower weight classes
- 16:41getting a knockout like this is pretty rare but Hiro.
- 16:45I'm so early.
- 16:48Yes especially because it was so early and Hiro was doing pretty well.
- 16:52I'm surprised that he that it happened.
- 16:55If a stoppage was going to happen it would have I would have expected it to be later
- 16:59but I'm not sure how.
- 17:02Like they came into this Iwata's 13 and 1 and Noriega's 14 and 0.
- 17:07So it's not like there's a real big experience disparity.
- 17:11So holy shit that's just fantastic.
- 17:15Noriega got fucking Pacquiao'd.
- 17:17It was it was crazy.
- 17:19I think in the lost session you had mentioned that like the crowd was really really quiet
- 17:25as they waited.
- 17:26Oh yeah.
- 17:27Yeah.
- 17:28Noriega didn't get up right away.
- 17:29He didn't move right away.
- 17:32So there was the initial like big cheer and then everybody was silent while the doctors
- 17:39came in and stuff.
- 17:40But he did walk out on his own.
- 17:42So to a standing ovation and then Iwata got his standing ovation as well.
- 17:49But the Japanese crowd is very respectful when people are hurt which is nice.
- 17:56I quite enjoy that.
- 17:58There's no no reason to be cheering if somebody's not getting up.
- 18:03I did feel a little bad for Noriega.
- 18:06I like him.
- 18:07I like when people from those not so boxing countries are doing well.
- 18:13But man Iwata just shut him off.
- 18:16It was crazy.
- 18:19It's unfortunate but I think I will get he should get another call up to a big fight.
- 18:24I think he demonstrated he can hang.
- 18:27He does have the skill.
- 18:29But yeah.
- 18:30Well and this should hopefully get some people turned on to Iwata.
- 18:36If anybody is talking shit about lower weight classes and no knockouts for the next year
- 18:42that's the knockout to show them.
- 18:46In the main event Takuma Inoue loses his bantamweight title the WBA version against Seiya Tsutsumi
- 18:57Punch Burger has arrived.
- 19:02What was the celebration like in the Tsutsumi section?
- 19:05Oh my god.
- 19:07So the whole fight was just like the loudest Japanese crowd I've ever seen.
- 19:14This was a Sunday night before a long weekend.
- 19:18So nobody had to work on Monday.
- 19:21And I was shocked at how much of the crowd was Tsutsumi.
- 19:26I was in that section because I bought from his fan club.
- 19:30So I expected my whole section obviously.
- 19:33But it really felt like probably 75% of the crowd was there for Seiya.
- 19:41It was crazy.
- 19:42Every time there was like a cheer started for Takuma it was instantly drowned out by
- 19:48Seiya fans.
- 19:49And it wasn't just my section cheering for him.
- 19:53It really felt like there was one section of Inoue fans and that was it.
- 20:00And Tsutsumi had...
- 20:02I was in the front of the first raised seats.
- 20:07But on the floor underneath me was a whole group of guys that had went out and bought
- 20:13red leather jackets.
- 20:15Tsutsumi wears a red leather jacket a lot of the time in his Instagram pictures when
- 20:19he's out eating food and stuff.
- 20:22And those guys looked...
- 20:25They really looked like a sort of anime...
- 20:28I don't want to say gang, but you know in anime how there's like the groups of guys.
- 20:36Yeah.
- 20:38And those guys were down in front of me and they were loud as hell for Japanese fans.
- 20:43And in between every round there was like three of them would stand up and just start
- 20:49yelling at the crowd to get a Seiya cheer going.
- 20:54And they were loud as hell.
- 20:56And I rewatched the broadcast last night because I knew we were doing this.
- 21:01And you could see them in the background standing this like waving their arms and getting everybody
- 21:08cheering in time and stuff.
- 21:10They did that in between every round.
- 21:13It was great.
- 21:14Yeah.
- 21:15And I'm sure anybody listening has probably seen at least one episode of Hajime no Ippo.
- 21:22Yeah.
- 21:23So they do that stuff in the anime and I was like, holy shit, they do that for real.
- 21:29I didn't know that was a real thing.
- 21:32They do have a ticket sales website, but I have never figured out how you actually just
- 21:38go to that website and buy a ticket.
- 21:40I have always entered the website through a fan site.
- 21:45Now the only one that really uses Japanese Ticketmaster that I've bought is Nakatani.
- 21:52But if you go to the Tsutsumi website, it goes to this, I forget what it's called, but
- 21:59it's boxingtickets.jp I think anyways.
- 22:03And it's just boxers.
- 22:04Each boxer has their own page and that's where you order your ticket.
- 22:09And the smaller guys like Tsutsumi who's less famous literally just email transfer the money
- 22:17like a bank transfer.
- 22:18They're very shady.
- 22:19And yeah.
- 22:20And then they just mail you a ticket.
- 22:22Like they personally, well, I'm sure he doesn't pack the envelopes, but like his team personally
- 22:28just writes your address on an envelope and puts a ticket in it.
- 22:34It's crazy.
- 22:35So when you do that, every boxer has their own section.
- 22:41And sometimes you even get like really cheerleader like guys like at anime that wear the headband
- 22:50and stand up at the bottom and like, okay guys, this is the cheer we're doing.
- 22:55Because there's kind of six or seven set cheers and you just insert name here and they'll
- 23:00stand at the front in between rounds and stuff and just lead the cheer.
- 23:05It's crazy.
- 23:06Man, I really want to go to a fight in Tokyo, especially now.
- 23:10It's really fun.
- 23:11It's probably very different.
- 23:13I've never been to a boxing match in America, but the nice thing is everybody seems to be
- 23:18paying attention or they're at least not distracting you.
- 23:22Like there's no crowd fights or random people yelling about something else.
- 23:29All right.
- 23:30So to the actual fight.
- 23:32Okay.
- 23:33So Tatsumi, holy shit, what a gas tank.
- 23:37He was going forward, throwing like so many punches every round, all 12 rounds.
- 23:45And it seemed like it was going to be a win for him anyway, even if we didn't, if there
- 23:51wasn't that kind of weird slip or trip ruled a knockdown.
- 23:55I don't know.
- 23:56It felt like he had it pretty safe.
- 23:59I rewatched it last night.
- 24:01It wasn't a slip or a trip.
- 24:04It would have been a knockdown, but the ropes held Takuma up.
- 24:08He rewatching it, he really did slam into the ropes and the ref stepped in and ruled
- 24:15it a knockdown right away.
- 24:17So you got it right.
- 24:19I think he did.
- 24:20I thought it at the fight, looking at the Jumbotron, Tsutsumi looked so fucking nervous
- 24:27in his walk in and like the national anthem and everything.
- 24:30He looked like he was going to throw up.
- 24:34And the first two rounds, he was nervous.
- 24:37He wasn't throwing as many punches and he was doing stupid stuff.
- 24:42But around, I'd say round four, he finally got comfortable.
- 24:48And that's when he really started just out throwing and outworking Takuma and landing
- 24:55to the body.
- 24:56There were so many body punches that led to head punches because he wasn't throwing just
- 25:02one punch.
- 25:03He was throwing like 12 punches and something's going to fucking land.
- 25:13On the bodywork, Tsutsumi's bodywork was what paid off very much later.
- 25:20In a way, in the beginning was it along with the nerves, Inoue was moving around using
- 25:27his agility a lot better.
- 25:29Seemed like Tsutsumi was having trouble keeping up, but that shit taxes.
- 25:34And Inoue slowed down enough and got just he got worked all the way to the end.
- 25:39Yeah.
- 25:40Not that Takuma didn't land anything.
- 25:44Oh, no, he had.
- 25:45He did well.
- 25:46Yeah.
- 25:47Tsutsumi's got a fuck of a chin, I think.
- 25:50He was not reacting to some bombs landing upstairs.
- 25:54And I forget what round it was, but that cut to his eye was actually pretty bad.
- 26:00He ignored it and his cut man's good, but they even had the doctor check it.
- 26:05I had forgotten that the doctor checked his eye there.
- 26:08I did too.
- 26:09Like I looked him up.
- 26:10It was late.
- 26:11Yeah.
- 26:12I think round 11, they're like, and they just let it go.
- 26:16But I had to and Tsutsumi's Instagram has been fucking exactly what I thought it was
- 26:22going to be.
- 26:23It's him eating ridiculously huge, fancy burgers and steaks and sushi and whatnot.
- 26:31And just so many new vintage clothes.
- 26:38So he gets the win.
- 26:39And now we're looking at him being in, let me pull up the old box rack here.
- 26:48So bansomweight.
- 26:50Of the top six, five are Japanese.
- 26:54Junto Nakatani's at first.
- 26:56Seiya Tsutsumi is at second.
- 26:59There's I don't know.
- 27:00I would like to see Tsutsumi fight Take, Yoshiki Take just because he did Daigo Higa dirty
- 27:09and I don't like it, even though it's not his fault.
- 27:11But I want to see him pay for it.
- 27:14Yeah, that would be a good matchup.
- 27:17Of the people with belts right now, I think Tsutsumi probably is considered the weakest
- 27:23link.
- 27:24That is a mistake.
- 27:26I think so.
- 27:28But other than Nakatani, anybody who thinks he's the like the odd man out and that's who
- 27:33you snipe your belt from.
- 27:35That is a fucking mistake.
- 27:37On board, all in fucking punch burgers from here on out every day.
- 27:43And once he starts camp, it's all a meeting.
- 27:46It's punch burgers every day.
- 27:48Yeah.
- 27:49Like I don't know much about Nishida.
- 27:53I think we talked about this before, too.
- 27:55We did.
- 27:56I don't know who he is either.
- 27:58Is he the one fighting in Osaka later?
- 28:01Yes.
- 28:02So there is for the IBF belt.
- 28:06Yeah, I think I have decided I am going to make a weekend trip out of this fight.
- 28:13I wanted to go see a fight in Osaka.
- 28:16I've been having trouble finding any amount of video on this guy, but I haven't gotten
- 28:23anybody to help me search in Japanese yet.
- 28:28But he fights in Osaka on the 15th of December.
- 28:32And I think I'm just gonna.
- 28:35It'll be like three hundred dollars in train tickets, which is going to be much more than
- 28:39the actual fight ticket.
- 28:42And I think it'll be fun to see the difference in the crowds because everybody says Osaka
- 28:48is a lot louder and rowdier than Tokyo.
- 28:52I will say this first night, the crowd was really fun.
- 28:55The second night where people had to work the next day.
- 28:59All Tokyo businessmen.
- 29:00Blame.
- 29:01And they are boring as fuck.
- 29:04Is there much of what about Inoue here?
- 29:07Because he has he's still I think he's still really live, very much still in the top portion
- 29:14of the division.
- 29:16I think there's good fights that he can take.
- 29:18Daigo Higa would be a nice one.
- 29:21Daigo Higa needs to come back.
- 29:22Inoue needs to come back.
- 29:25I don't think the Japanese are too fussed about making inter promotion rivalries.
- 29:32Or should he take somebody from outside of Japan?
- 29:34I don't know.
- 29:35What do you think?
- 29:36Yeah, I don't know.
- 29:37I always liked Takuma.
- 29:39A bunch of people say he only got the big fights because he's, you know, Naoya's little
- 29:45brother.
- 29:46I think Takuma is a good boxer on his own.
- 29:48Yeah, he is.
- 29:49Like he's not as good as his brother, but nobody is.
- 29:52So I don't think this is the end of his career by any means.
- 29:57And I think he's still up there with the in the mix for a belt.
- 30:01Like I don't think this should block his chances at all.
- 30:05I did see some people on Discord where, you know, Oh, Inoue finally got fraud checked,
- 30:11blah, blah, blah.
- 30:12And I'm like, you guys just don't know shit about the small weight classes.
- 30:16Yeah, you just don't know who Inoue is.
- 30:18That's really all it is.
- 30:19Yeah.
- 30:20Or Tsutsumi.
- 30:21They're like, oh, yeah, he got beat by some fucking nobody.
- 30:25Go watch your heavyweights throw ten punches around.
- 30:28This is ridiculous.
- 30:30Because you've never heard of them.
- 30:32Doesn't make them nobodies or frauds or whatever.
- 30:36Yeah, I do think little Inoue will get another fight in Japan against a Japanese guy, probably.
- 30:42Although they might bring in some high fighter as a get back.
- 30:47They do that to the Thai guys a lot here.
- 30:49Oh, I'm sure they're not too fussed about getting some, I guess, a decentish payday.
- 30:55Fair enough.
- 30:56I mean, Kanichi Ogawa, I see he knocked out that guy real fast last time.
- 31:01He's back in camp.
- 31:02I think he's got something cooking.
- 31:04I'm hoping it's not another Thai fight.
- 31:07I hope it's like something important.
- 31:11I was thinking that even with this loss, this is where the name, the family name is going
- 31:18to keep him in the at the top for maybe longer than he would deserve if he were to start
- 31:25stringing together losses.
- 31:27He would still be able to get some name value.
- 31:30But right now, just yeah, Discord fuckers, you haven't heard of them.
- 31:34I don't think that's what's happening.
- 31:36No, not right now.
- 31:37Definitely not.
- 31:38You haven't heard of them, but he's been putting in the work just because you didn't see it.
- 31:43Doesn't mean it didn't happen.
- 31:45I do feel bad for him because if his brother wasn't his brother, he might not.
- 31:51Well, he wouldn't be as famous, but he also wouldn't get like even the commentators kind
- 31:58of shit on him a bit.
- 32:00Oh, maybe his big brother can teach him how to do this.
- 32:02And I'm like, guys, leave him alone.
- 32:08He is a world champion boxer.
- 32:11Man, the English broadcast where I saw it was Christina Poncher and Nico Ali Walsh,
- 32:21I will be laying into a bit later.
- 32:24But they were just man, they were going so hard for Takuma.
- 32:31I suppose I understand why.
- 32:33But it's like you're completely ignoring everything that Tsutsumi is doing just because
- 32:38of the you recognize one guy's name and that's it.
- 32:42Yeah.
- 32:43Call the fucking fight, man.
- 32:45Poncher, not nearly as bad.
- 32:47She's really good about just calling the action.
- 32:49But Nico as the analyst, like you're not even good at that either.
- 32:57I rewatched the broadcast in Japanese, so I didn't understand a whole bunch of what
- 33:03they're saying.
- 33:04Like I'm still very slowly learning Japanese.
- 33:08But there was a big shift because it started out with the champion, the champion, the champion,
- 33:13because they always say it in English.
- 33:15And then I think it was about round five.
- 33:18It was like, oh, challenger, challenger, challenger.
- 33:22So the Japanese broadcast definitely had a big shift from the champion is doing this,
- 33:28the champion is doing that to holy shit, the challenger is challenging to the challenger
- 33:34is winning.
- 33:35Excellent.
- 33:36OK, anything more for this one before you get to the 14th?
- 33:41I don't think so.
- 33:42Cool.
- 33:43So the second fight card in Tokyo, part of the doubleheader doubleheader and last one
- 33:49we'll be talking about for today.
- 33:53Starting off at the bottom, Excel James Jr. majority draw with Ayato Kobayashi.
- 34:00You had asked me the first time to guess where this man might be from Excel, where he may
- 34:07be from.
- 34:08I guess I told you he is Japanese.
- 34:11Yes.
- 34:12I had a guess.
- 34:13I thought he was Filipino just with a name like that.
- 34:15I assume his dad got to name him and just Excel is a nice idea of a name.
- 34:26But it sounds like you're going to be an accountant.
- 34:32It's such a weird name.
- 34:34It really is.
- 34:36But he gets to draw.
- 34:39What can we take away from this?
- 34:40They're both young and new.
- 34:42I thought it was actually pretty funny that the untelevised card on both nights was a
- 34:48majority draw.
- 34:49Yeah, the card opener.
- 34:51Yeah, I just thought it was a weird coincidence.
- 34:56I don't think there's a whole bunch to take away from this.
- 34:59Kind of same thing.
- 35:00Excel Jr. was trying to be more boxery and Kobayashi was just coming straight ahead and
- 35:08throwing a million punches and it's only four rounds.
- 35:12So, yeah, that's one of those things that it feels a bit amateurish where you just kind
- 35:19of spam for four rounds because you don't have a lot of time to make a case.
- 35:25Yeah, like, unless you're clearly dominating, most of the four round ones can be a draw,
- 35:33I think.
- 35:34I do like that they don't pair up the young guys with like journeymen as much in Japan.
- 35:41You hardly ever see a 1-0 fighter and, you know, a 20 and 36 or something.
- 35:48That's good.
- 35:49Yeah, they match them up with each other.
- 35:52Yeah, I think that's why the Japanese guys tend to have losses more than the Western
- 35:59guys early in their career.
- 36:01Yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 36:03I don't know.
- 36:04That's the way it should be done, I would say.
- 36:06We should be taking some notes.
- 36:08Yeah, I really hate the padded resumes.
- 36:12It kind of drives me nuts.
- 36:15Yeah, there was a Golden Boy card not too long ago that had Alexis Rocha, he was doing
- 36:25the analysis and as they were talking about him, they were saying he had 40-something
- 36:33fights.
- 36:34What the fuck is this, dude?
- 36:35Like, I've seen maybe five of yours.
- 36:38Who the hell were those other people?
- 36:40And the Thai fighters are the worst for that, like, he's 70 and 2 or something and you're
- 36:49like, yeah, but is he or was he like fighting fucking drunk cab drivers?
- 36:53Yeah, it gets kind of ridiculous.
- 36:56All right, let's move up here.
- 36:59Tenshin Nozokawa moves down from Super Bantamweight down to 118.
- 37:04He is still undefeated, gets the UD over Jerwin Asilo.
- 37:10This is the one where I had it noted that Niko is a horrible analysis fucking talking
- 37:17head, the worst.
- 37:19The guy cannot give credit where credit is due.
- 37:24Acting like Tenshin is just some random ass kid off the street that went into a boxing
- 37:29gym one day.
- 37:30Now this is his fifth fight.
- 37:32I don't think you realize this dude was is a kickboxing like martial arts fucking phenom.
- 37:38He's already his fans are fucking rabid.
- 37:42I know I talked about this before, but tension is the main character of an anime and he acts
- 37:48like he knows he's the main character of an anime like that overconfident dickhead in
- 37:55an anime, but he can back it up.
- 37:59That's tension.
- 38:00I cannot stand his personality.
- 38:03I mean, he's he's a good boxer, but his personality and just his fans like it's a bunch of people
- 38:13his age.
- 38:14So what is he like 20?
- 38:1623 ish?
- 38:18Yeah, he's and 26 if holy shit.
- 38:22Oh, okay.
- 38:23Well, his fans don't seem that old, but his fans are like late teens, early 20s.
- 38:29If they can get away with dyeing their hair the bright yellow, they do, but being as it's
- 38:35Tokyo and a bunch of them are now, you know, fledgling Tokyo businessmen.
- 38:40Yeah, they're the workforce.
- 38:41You're not allowed to dye your hair in Japan in a lot of companies.
- 38:45It has to be your natural hair color.
- 38:48These fledgling Tokyo businessmen do the spray dye.
- 38:52Yeah, like the hair.
- 38:54Spirit at school.
- 38:56Yeah.
- 38:57And then they'll spray it bright yellow just for the fights and he sells so much merch.
- 39:06Tension is such a phenom that he has pop up stores, but like I haven't even seen Naoya
- 39:11get a pop up store, but tension gets them.
- 39:14Wow.
- 39:15That's a good way to for me to know what like what levels are we at here of fame?
- 39:20I do think Naoya is more famous and like more respected and stuff, but I think Tension's
- 39:28fans are more rapid, if that makes sense.
- 39:33So Tension, just to get a little bit on the fight itself, Nico, it's not his, it's not
- 39:41Tension's fault that you suck.
- 39:43It's not his fault.
- 39:47The guy was a kickboxing phenom and it fucking shows.
- 39:52This kid knows how to fight.
- 39:54He was like, Nico was shitting on like, oh, his footwork is a little weird.
- 39:58And then he's like dancing circles around a silo.
- 40:01What the hell is the matter with you?
- 40:03Are we watching the same thing?
- 40:05I don't think so.
- 40:06It's a little different than boxing and he's probably doing shit that they told Nico not
- 40:10to do because he's not good enough to pull it off.
- 40:13Probably.
- 40:14That's not how I feel anyway, because just because your grandfather was, is a legend,
- 40:22legend of the game doesn't mean that you're supposed to be good or something.
- 40:28Yeah.
- 40:29But I don't know, man, Tension, he's, his move to Bansom, I think they want to get him
- 40:35into the mix with the other like big names in Japan because he's a mega star already.
- 40:43That's just my thinking of why they moved him.
- 40:45Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
- 40:48Save the Naoya fight for later.
- 40:49It wouldn't surprise me.
- 40:51Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if he can make this weight that they match him up with a
- 40:56belt holder maybe in two fights.
- 41:00They're going to move Tension fast.
- 41:01Yeah, of course.
- 41:05That was always the plan.
- 41:06I don't know who they would pick right now, though.
- 41:09I don't think Tsutsumi would be a good match up for Tension.
- 41:13Nishida, I don't know enough about Nishida to say just he has nine fights.
- 41:19So that would be my shout.
- 41:21I think Tension and Takai would be a good fight.
- 41:25Yes, Takai was the one I was thinking next.
- 41:27I honestly I don't know who would win that one.
- 41:32Moving up.
- 41:34No contest in the first.
- 41:35Anthony Oluskwaga, he holds the WBO Flyweight Championship.
- 41:40He fought Jonathan Gonzalez.
- 41:42Yeah, Gonzalez was looking for a way out.
- 41:47Yeah, actually, this got overturned to a win.
- 41:53Yeah, TKO, which I don't think is fair.
- 41:59I don't like that decision.
- 42:01I do think Gonzalez could have continued and I think if he was told he had to, he would
- 42:06have.
- 42:07But if you call it a no contest, you got to leave it a no contest.
- 42:13Yeah, if it's going to be a stoppage of any kind, it should have been ruled that way in
- 42:17the beginning.
- 42:18But no contest, that's the point.
- 42:21If it stopped in the first four, kind of how it's supposed to happen.
- 42:24Honestly, I'm not sure why they changed it, but it really did look like Gonzalez could
- 42:29have continued.
- 42:31It was a cut in a bad spot, but they ruled it a head clash or something, I think.
- 42:37And so he took the out.
- 42:38He knew he was going to lose and he took the out when he saw it, is my opinion.
- 42:43Hopefully they do it again.
- 42:44I mean, and Gonzalez.
- 42:46Yeah, I was excited to see Oluskwaga.
- 42:48I don't know how you say his name.
- 42:52I was disappointed in this.
- 42:54I was disappointed in this.
- 42:56I wanted to see him fight.
- 42:59Looking at the title list here, Kentaro Taraji is at the top of the list.
- 43:05Does Akui have a belt?
- 43:07Yes.
- 43:08The WBA.
- 43:09The WBA.
- 43:10That's right.
- 43:11I don't see it here on Box Rack because they're petty little fuckers.
- 43:15That's so stupid.
- 43:18It's really dumb, but whatever.
- 43:20Yeah, I've actually started going to ESPN so that the WBA is listed.
- 43:26Yeah, I need to find a new source of truth here.
- 43:31Moving up Pumelile, Kaffu.
- 43:35Split decision over Kose Tanaka.
- 43:37Super, super close fight.
- 43:40114, 113 times two for Kaffu and then 114, 113 for Tanaka.
- 43:46That's a holy shit.
- 43:49What a fight.
- 43:50I think the knockdown was the deciding factor, if nothing else.
- 43:55That was wild.
- 43:57Yeah.
- 43:58I really felt like Tanaka did just enough.
- 44:04It's not a robbery and I can't be mad at the judges.
- 44:07Everybody had really close scorecards, but I was sad for Tanaka, man.
- 44:14We were thinking, because right now the two other champions are Fernando Martinez and
- 44:20Jesse Rodriguez.
- 44:22Bam.
- 44:24Fernando has the rematch with Iyoka coming up and Bam is fighting this weekend.
- 44:34We always thought, I always thought anyway, that Kaze Tanoa was like, why did I say Kaze
- 44:39Tanoa?
- 44:40Kose Tanaka was like the odd man out because those two are fucking tremendous.
- 44:46They'll put a beating on somebody and Tanaka, he's been a little shaky recently.
- 44:52He showed a lot of grit here.
- 44:54I hope they do a rematch because Kosei Raids won.
- 44:57That wasn't like Kafu destroyed him.
- 45:01No, it was really close.
- 45:04This is also the first time I have seen Tanaka's t-shirts.
- 45:09I am getting quite the boxing t-shirt collection, actually, but he's got nice t-shirts.
- 45:13I might have to buy from him next time.
- 45:18Alright, headlining Junto Nakatani, TKO 6 vs. Tasana Salapat.
- 45:25That's one of five or six names that he has.
- 45:29It has a CP Freshmark tag for his gym sponsor or whatever.
- 45:34WBC 118 title.
- 45:37Nakatani, still untouchable.
- 45:40Yeah, so the last fight was that first round, like not fight.
- 45:46The Australobian one?
- 45:47Yeah, I finally got to see Nakatani fight live for real.
- 45:52It was great.
- 45:53His crowd was not nearly as fun.
- 45:56It was just a bunch of businessmen with their dates that were not interested in the fights
- 46:02at all.
- 46:03Lame.
- 46:04But so lame.
- 46:07But Nakatani's gonna Nakatani.
- 46:09Like that was textbook.
- 46:11I'm gonna just knock bitches out and take my belts home.
- 46:15Thank you very much.
- 46:17And Junto's got such a good smile.
- 46:20I know this is not the place to fangirl over it, but he's so fucking adorable with that
- 46:24big ass grin.
- 46:26And they had his face up on the big screen and you just you have to be happy for him
- 46:31because he looks so happy.
- 46:33I like seeing Japanese fighters emote more like that.
- 46:38It's always nice because they always seem so stoic.
- 46:40Yeah, but when they do the announcements, they always really when they win, they show
- 46:45their emotions when they lose.
- 46:48Not so much.
- 46:49But yeah, I don't know if anybody can touch Nakatani.
- 46:52Like I really think he is untouchable right now.
- 46:56Nakatani is just tall and his basics are great like every Japanese fighter, but he's being
- 47:04trained by how we looked this up last time.
- 47:07Mexican guy.
- 47:08Yeah, he is Mexican, right?
- 47:10I believe so.
- 47:11In the somewhere in these trains in the US.
- 47:14California, I think.
- 47:16Yeah, Rudy Hernandez.
- 47:18I think it's really showing in the defense.
- 47:22Yeah, because that's always my problem with Japanese fighters.
- 47:25Their defense tends to be shit.
- 47:27Yeah, we just watched it in the Kyoguchi fight a few moments ago.
- 47:33It was just bombs away like Kyoguchi was having some head movement, but not as much as you
- 47:39would like, especially for a guy that's throwing a ton of punches at you.
- 47:44Yeah, and it seems to...
- 47:47So that friend I made, he actually was an amateur boxer.
- 47:50He never went professional.
- 47:52He's the same age as Takuma and Seiya.
- 47:56That's why he spent a bunch of money to come to Tokyo and watch the fight.
- 48:00He never fought them.
- 48:03He's bigger, but he fought in the same tournaments as them and knew them.
- 48:10And we were discussing Japanese style and he's like, yeah, I...
- 48:16Boxing style.
- 48:17He's like, yeah, the Japanese fighters are really told to make it exciting.
- 48:22Wow.
- 48:23Like, coaches give old school speeches of like, you're not just here to win, you're
- 48:33here to entertain people.
- 48:36And he's like, they never really teach us a whole bunch of slick defense because that's
- 48:41not the point of boxing.
- 48:42The point of boxing is to go out and entertain the crowd and show your heart and your...
- 48:47I'm like, man, that's bad.
- 48:50Yeah.
- 48:51I get it.
- 48:54Some American boxing has gotten too far the other way.
- 48:57But teach your guys to move their fucking head a little bit.
- 49:01But also, I mean, that's one person's opinion and maybe he just had a shitty coach.
- 49:06Who knows?
- 49:07Yeah.
- 49:08I think that the way that the...
- 49:10People also misunderstand the Mexican style a lot.
- 49:16The old adage or not adage, but in Discord the adage, like the flat footed Mexican.
- 49:22That's no, man.
- 49:23I don't know if you think...
- 49:24I don't know.
- 49:25I think you understand what you're looking at because the defense is more in the pocket
- 49:29and it's not so much avoiding punches as it is deflecting them.
- 49:34It looks like something's landing, but it really isn't.
- 49:37Yeah.
- 49:38And I do think the Japanese boxers do a little more of that.
- 49:43They're blocking as opposed to rolling.
- 49:46Blocks and parries.
- 49:47Yeah.
- 49:48But when you throw a punch, they don't get their head offline ever.
- 49:55Something that's...I like the shift of the Mexican boxing culture.
- 50:01It's not Julio Cesar Chavez anymore, where it's what I just described, like the in the
- 50:07pocket brawling type that has a lot more nuance than people realize.
- 50:13But more the way Nacho Berestain used to train guys, the way that Rudy's training Nakatani.
- 50:21During the wake, like Canelo, Marquez, Juan Francisco Estrada.
- 50:26These guys are a lot more technically sound.
- 50:31And Nakatani is displaying that a lot with his counterpunching.
- 50:34When you have a really aggressive fucking 76 and 1, now 2 fighter coming at you, just
- 50:42let him throw what he wants and find a spot because you're better, you're sharper, you're
- 50:48stronger.
- 50:49Let him throw himself out.
- 50:51Yeah.
- 50:52And Nakatani has gotten really good at fitting those punches in between shots.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 50:59This is like perfect example.
- 51:00Like I really expected better from Astralabio than I did from Salapat.
- 51:06I thought Salapat would be a KO1 and Astralabio would be maybe 6, 7.
- 51:14Probably who's 76 and like 1 is going to be tough though.
- 51:20I was saying this in Discord.
- 51:21I'm like, Nakatani is going to win.
- 51:24For sure.
- 51:25And Nakatani is probably going to get a knockout.
- 51:27Like I was calling a knockout, but I was like, it's not going to be in the first two rounds.
- 51:33Like this guy's getting the shit kicked out of him in Thailand.
- 51:36He can take a hit.
- 51:38Like.
- 51:39Yeah.
- 51:40I'm not, I am more than certain that it's not just 76 and 1 in boxing.
- 51:48That he's also doing Muay Thai or whatever the fuck is paying.
- 51:53That's what I'm doing.
- 51:54Yeah.
- 51:55Yeah.
- 51:56And Nakatani punches hard, but he does not punch harder than a T-kick.
- 52:01Nobody does.
- 52:02But yeah, no, I have no idea who beats Nakatani.
- 52:06I don't think anybody at this weight class even comes close right now.
- 52:11Nakatani is looking so good.
- 52:12I would like to see Bam come up and fight Nakatani.
- 52:16That's what I want to see.
- 52:17I know everybody's talking about Bam versus Inoue, but.
- 52:21Nah, not yet.
- 52:23Bam versus Nakatani I think would be a hell of a fight.
- 52:27Bam versus Punch Burger would be really fun.
- 52:30Yeah, it really would.
- 52:32I'm sure Punch Burger probably loses that, but I'm also sure it would be fight of the
- 52:37year contender.
- 52:38Yeah, I don't know what you do with Nakatani.
- 52:43I mean, I think Nakatani could move up in weight.
- 52:47He's definitely got the frame to move up in weight.
- 52:49Tall enough for sure.
- 52:51But he also seems to make Bantam weight super easy.
- 52:55Like he never looks drained.
- 52:57I don't know how the hell he made 115.
- 53:00That's wild.
- 53:01He makes it look easy.
- 53:03I've never once seen Nakatani and went, oh, that was a bad weight cut.
- 53:08Yeah.
- 53:09Well, I think that's all we have.
- 53:13So that's going to be the end of it.
- 53:16Do we need to?

- 54:34Just what I've been doing recently has all been about voting and stuff.
- 54:38So with that- That didn't work.
- 54:40Yeah, apparently not.
- 54:44Lace up those boots and get ready to work.
- 54:46That's really all I have.
- 54:47It's a little bit of a hopeful, hopeful push.
- 54:52I have something slightly more fun.
- 54:54So nobody in the world probably cares, except Canada.
- 55:00But it's the CFL Playoffs, the Canadian Football League.
- 55:04And my home province team, the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, have made the Western Final
- 55:10against our Uber rivals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
- 55:15So I need everybody to cheer for the Ryderz this weekend.
- 55:19Honestly, the Rough Riders is the only name that I know from CFL.
- 55:22Yeah, it's because at one point there was two teams.
- 55:26Yeah, exactly.
- 55:27And it made it to the Simpsons.
- 55:30Yes.
- 55:31So I have a funeral shroud.
- 55:33Well, we'll see how much of that estate planning goes into the final.
- 55:38But yeah, that's it for the JP special.
- 55:41We're going to try to get back on track here.
- 55:45So we'll see you when we see you.
