Latest / Direct From Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest / Why There was ZERO CHANCE ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ Was Going to Be Two Films
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest.
- 0:03Speaker 2: The highly anticipated Hunger Games reboot, The Ballad of Songbirds
- 0:06Speaker 2: and Snakes checks in at a meedy two hours and
- 0:08Speaker 2: forty five minutes, which is about long enough to divide
- 0:11Speaker 2: it into two installments, but director Francis Lawrence, who also
- 0:14Speaker 2: handled all the original Hunger Games, says that was never
- 0:16Speaker 2: a possibility. After a hard lesson he learned by breaking
- 0:19Speaker 2: Mockingbird into two parts, telling people if he could go back,
- 0:22Speaker 2: he'd leave it as one film, he says, I totally
- 0:25Speaker 2: regret it. I'm not sure everybody does, but I do.
- 0:27Speaker 2: What I realized in retrospect after hearing the wrap of
- 0:29Speaker 2: fans and critics is it was frustrating. I understand it
- 0:32Speaker 2: in an episode of television, if you have a cliffhanger,
- 0:35Speaker 2: you wait a week or just binge the next episode,
- 0:37Speaker 2: but making fans wait a year felt disingenuous, even though
- 0:40Speaker 2: it wasn't our intention. We did get more out of
- 0:43Speaker 2: that book than in any of the other movies, because
- 0:45Speaker 2: it was close to four hours of screen time for
- 0:47Speaker 2: the final book, the words of Francis Lawrence. Regardless, when
- 0:50Speaker 2: it came time to make the Ballad of Songbirds and snakes.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Francis never ever entertained the idea of doing it again,
- 0:56Speaker 2: and that is in theaters November seventeen.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's direct from Hollywood.
