- 0:51Speaker 1: winning in sports, we're winning in the financial world, and
- 0:55Speaker 1: then we're often winning in politics. But where people of
- 0:58Speaker 1: color are not winning is in the system. That is
- 1:01Speaker 1: the subject of my next guest in this new book,
- 1:03Speaker 1: Open Season. My next guest and I have created and
- 1:06Speaker 1: co produced television shows together. He has a friend little brother,
- 1:10Speaker 1: fraternity brother, and the founder and principal owner of ben
- 1:14Speaker 1: Crump Law. He has been recognized in National Trial Lawyers,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Top one hundred Lawyers and Ebony magazine Power one hundred
- 1:20Speaker 1: Most Influential African Americans. He has represented families in several
- 1:24Speaker 1: high profiles civil right cases, including Trayvon Martin and most recently,
- 1:28Speaker 1: the black man who was shot and killed when the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Dallas police officer walked into the wrong apartment and thinking
- 1:34Speaker 1: it was hers, and she shot him while he was
- 1:37Speaker 1: sitting on the sofa eating ice cream. My guest is
- 1:39Speaker 1: on the show to talk about this new book, open season,
- 1:42Speaker 1: legalized Genocide of Colored People. Please welcome the money making
- 1:46Speaker 1: conversations again. Attorney Ben Crump, Good morning, Rashaan, Good morning,
- 1:53Speaker 1: my friend. Good morning. I know he just landed in
- 1:56Speaker 1: New York. Is a big media run. Congratulations on this book, man.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I know how long you and I have been talking
- 2:02Speaker 1: about this book, two years, um Rashard in this thing
- 2:08Speaker 1: like just been so long. When I have to tell
- 2:10Speaker 1: you publicly what I told you privately. You know your
- 2:14Speaker 1: goddess and direction was aspect of this book. And just
- 2:20Speaker 1: like when we did the UH on some TV show
- 2:23Speaker 1: Evidence of Innocence. I mean the cover selection that variety
- 2:29Speaker 1: of magazine is calling iconic from the title of the
- 2:32Speaker 1: book and content. You know, every time I would UH
- 2:36Speaker 1: beinging air to advise and counsel that you always gave
- 2:39Speaker 1: me good prolistic advice and for that they're the fact
- 2:44Speaker 1: that the book is the number one UH sole book
- 2:48Speaker 1: on Amazon for pre orders is UH. We're in a
- 2:52Speaker 1: testament to a lot of your counsel and advice. And
- 2:56Speaker 1: I always thank you for your brother and so this
- 2:59Speaker 1: is an e and week just no your voices in
- 3:03Speaker 1: my ear as I go through all these interviews, thank
- 3:06Speaker 1: you well, you know it's great. I thank you for
- 3:07Speaker 1: the compliment, and I thank you for being the person
- 3:09Speaker 1: that you are. In reading the book, my whole thought
- 3:12Speaker 1: was that this is one of many now because I
- 3:16Speaker 1: heard your voice, I heard your passion, and I heard
- 3:19Speaker 1: your concern as to why this book and many books
- 3:22Speaker 1: that you're going to write in the ProView two in
- 3:24Speaker 1: the future gonna provide us with knowledge because so much
- 3:27Speaker 1: information is being hidden in the justice system, and this book,
- 3:31Speaker 1: you know, open season legal legalized genocide of color people.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's kind of like the first stage of getting that
- 3:37Speaker 1: information out to us correct certainly and tragically Rashine. It's
- 3:44Speaker 1: almost as if the book stays relevant no matter what
- 3:48Speaker 1: we do. UH. As we're speaking this morning, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 1: America is learning another name of a hashtag victim uh
- 3:57Speaker 1: A Tiana Jefferson. The black lay there in a house
- 4:01Speaker 1: UH taken care of her eight year nephew. The cops
- 4:04Speaker 1: shoots since out of the house and kills her. Very
- 4:07Speaker 1: similar to both of them. John case where the white
- 4:10Speaker 1: police woman comes into his apartment while he's minding his
- 4:14Speaker 1: business doing everything he has the legal right to do.
- 4:17Speaker 1: She allegedly thinks is her apartment, shoots and kills him. UH.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And and thank god, UH that was a historic case
- 4:26Speaker 1: because it was the first time a white police woman
- 4:28Speaker 1: has ever been convicted of murder for killing a black
- 4:33Speaker 1: UH person in the United States. But with all of
- 4:37Speaker 1: that there, it still remains that the law, the law
- 4:42Speaker 1: is suffer shine. And that's what we talk about a
- 4:44Speaker 1: lot in this book. How whether it's on the streets
- 4:48Speaker 1: or in the courtroom, their law that is supposed to
- 4:51Speaker 1: protect us, they're using it to kill us. And this
- 4:55Speaker 1: is a continuation. UH. What was done seventy years of
- 5:00Speaker 1: go when the great Paul Robeson and W. B. Duoi
- 5:04Speaker 1: and other black leaders went to the United Nations and saying,
- 5:08Speaker 1: which yours genocide? By how you're killing black people in
- 5:11Speaker 1: America and it is then proliferated by the law, right right.
- 5:16Speaker 1: You know the interesting thing about let's stay on the
- 5:19Speaker 1: Dallas case with the Dallas police officer, because you and
- 5:22Speaker 1: I were texting doing that trial and were texting afterwards,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and I saw you sing and after the trial and
- 5:28Speaker 1: the hug that was seen around the world doing that
- 5:32Speaker 1: Dallars trial when he when his brother left to stand
- 5:35Speaker 1: and hugged her. Um, your your thoughts on that, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: then because my and I'm share my thoughts on that
- 5:41Speaker 1: about that hug. Okay, Well, it is important to know
- 5:46Speaker 1: rashon the backstory of this Brent, who was both from
- 5:51Speaker 1: his younger brother. H was only sixteen years old when
- 5:57Speaker 1: his brother was killed. I mean, this is the person
- 6:00Speaker 1: who he slept in the bed with as a toppler
- 6:02Speaker 1: of the person who was his hero. Um. And so
- 6:06Speaker 1: when she killed his brother, I mean, he went through
- 6:10Speaker 1: all counter issues. He was angry, he hated her. I mean,
- 6:16Speaker 1: he just he wanted to harm her when it happened
- 6:21Speaker 1: because she took his hero uh. He dropped out of
- 6:24Speaker 1: high school, he pressed the holes in the wall. His
- 6:27Speaker 1: mother and father had to give him some serious counselor because,
- 6:32Speaker 1: as they said, they are Christians, Brandon, this isn't our
- 6:36Speaker 1: way to give way to hating. You can't take this
- 6:39Speaker 1: hate with you throughout your whole lights. So when you
- 6:43Speaker 1: saw him in that courtroom on that uh day of
- 6:47Speaker 1: the thick the impact statement, it was over a year
- 6:50Speaker 1: of him going through a whole range of emotions where
- 6:54Speaker 1: he finally got to that point and uh, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 1: he didn't know that the cameras were funny. He thought
- 7:01Speaker 1: that was just between him and her. And so that's
- 7:05Speaker 1: the back story of it. So people before they start
- 7:09Speaker 1: to form opinions of about uh you know, he shouldn't
- 7:14Speaker 1: forgive to kill up his uh brother, where they need
- 7:17Speaker 1: to understand what kind of family says this is a
- 7:20Speaker 1: godly crystal family and that this young man has since
- 7:24Speaker 1: through it all and don't judge him for how he's
- 7:28Speaker 1: grieving it. You know, it's really interesting because of the
- 7:30Speaker 1: fact that you know, African Americans are people of color,
- 7:33Speaker 1: even though we share the same religious belief are often
- 7:36Speaker 1: seen as heathens. Seen this volunteer. I thought that was
- 7:40Speaker 1: a monumental moment for for all people to show that
- 7:44Speaker 1: there's even at this level, there's forgiveness. And whether he
- 7:48Speaker 1: knew the cameras were running or not, that the moment
- 7:51Speaker 1: that we can't forgive. The only thing I was kind
- 7:53Speaker 1: of taken aback, which when the judge hugged her, I
- 7:56Speaker 1: didn't understand that. You know, that's nobody under said that
- 8:02Speaker 1: why the sailor was happen here? Yeah, and nobody has
- 8:08Speaker 1: seen them get that kind of consideration or affection to
- 8:12Speaker 1: a convicted murderer who is black. In fact, it's the opposite.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They won't even let the family right. You know, when
- 8:21Speaker 1: I still say there was an amazing case from a
- 8:25Speaker 1: standpoint of gaining some type of victory, because so many
- 8:28Speaker 1: people we were were captivated by her personality, by her
- 8:33Speaker 1: being young, by her being you know, you know, she's
- 8:37Speaker 1: just a young she just made a mistake. You know,
- 8:39Speaker 1: a lot of people are trying to trivialize the severity
- 8:42Speaker 1: of what she had done, you know, and the fact
- 8:44Speaker 1: that you guys came back with a guilty victory, guilty
- 8:47Speaker 1: victory verdict is really uh awesome in the sense that
- 8:52Speaker 1: justice was served properly. When I say the word awesome, yeah,
- 8:56Speaker 1: because first how most people had predicted she was going
- 8:59Speaker 1: to get off. I mean all the talking heads on
- 9:03Speaker 1: the the Legal Correspondent shows, they just said, nah, she's
- 9:09Speaker 1: gonna get a way with it, because obviously she didn't
- 9:14Speaker 1: mean to do it. And the only thing I would
- 9:17Speaker 1: say it was an argument in open season. It's about
- 9:21Speaker 1: equal justice under the law over the years. I know
- 9:24Speaker 1: as an individual, you were thrust out into the public's
- 9:27Speaker 1: eye with Trayvon Martin's case, and you've done your homework
- 9:30Speaker 1: to be able to understand your role and how do
- 9:32Speaker 1: you have to present yourself. That was part of your
- 9:34Speaker 1: growth too, as well as leading up to this book. Correct, absolutely,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and you have a lot with that returned. I mean,
- 9:42Speaker 1: it was a journey and I'm a country boy from
- 9:46Speaker 1: North Carolina. And then when you're put on the stage
- 9:49Speaker 1: and alculably the most recognizable civil rights lawyer in America,
- 9:55Speaker 1: then you have to definitely grow into that role and
- 10:00Speaker 1: you have to work on it every day and try
- 10:02Speaker 1: to improve on it every day. Just like you often
- 10:05Speaker 1: talk about on money making conversations is a continuous growth.
- 10:09Speaker 1: You're always learning, and so whether it's in the courtroom
- 10:13Speaker 1: or whether I'm advocating on TV, I'm always trying to
- 10:16Speaker 1: learn how to make sure with being effective as a
- 10:20Speaker 1: trial lawyer. That's what we do in courtrooms every day.
- 10:23Speaker 1: You you work to communicate with people. You don't want
- 10:27Speaker 1: to talk over them, you don't want to talk below them,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you want to talk to them. And in doing so
- 10:33Speaker 1: you try to find out what are the things that
- 10:36Speaker 1: have been effected from the past, and then how do
- 10:39Speaker 1: I make them better? And that was an exercise that
- 10:43Speaker 1: I really tried to do with the book, because as
- 10:46Speaker 1: I've reread it and reread it, I tried to listen
- 10:49Speaker 1: to say, now, what about this, uh white person that's
- 10:53Speaker 1: suburber America. How do I illustrate the point to them
- 10:56Speaker 1: that this is an American issue and that uh, they
- 11:01Speaker 1: also should be concerned with how the law is killing
- 11:04Speaker 1: black people. Um. That was the real important challenge, and
- 11:08Speaker 1: I think we tried to do it. I pointed out
- 11:11Speaker 1: a big thing in that about to meeting people in America,
- 11:15Speaker 1: it is the government. The police represent the government. It's
- 11:18Speaker 1: the most visual form that have in action with everyday citizens.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And so if the policy is to let police kill
- 11:28Speaker 1: black and brown people, then essentially that's the government killing
- 11:31Speaker 1: black and brown people. And that is the exact case
- 11:34Speaker 1: that was argued to the United Nations. So what I
- 11:37Speaker 1: both see as this book gains more attention and awareness
- 11:42Speaker 1: is taking a lot of the families back over to
- 11:44Speaker 1: Switzerland at the United Nations uh Convention in Geneva and
- 11:50Speaker 1: making the case again that we charge generouside based just
- 11:55Speaker 1: on the laws and the statistics. Don't take our word
- 11:59Speaker 1: for it. You tell us anywhere in this book where
- 12:02Speaker 1: it isn't true what you're doing to black and brown people.
- 12:06Speaker 1: You know. The amazing thing we're talking to attorney civil
- 12:09Speaker 1: rights attorney being Crop. His book Open Seasons, which you
- 12:12Speaker 1: can go to Amazon right now in pre order, is
- 12:14Speaker 1: the number one book in pre order right now on Amazon.
- 12:17Speaker 1: The book will hit the stores of the airports, all
- 12:20Speaker 1: the Bonds and Nobles if physically you can go by
- 12:23Speaker 1: the book this week. The book is called Open Seasons
- 12:25Speaker 1: and legalized. Then the side of color people. I know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: my social mediaill be blowing up, blowing up there. If
- 12:31Speaker 1: you come to rich at Rashwan McDonald, you will see
- 12:34Speaker 1: being Cromp post about his book because it's a special book.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It's a book about information, the book about education. It's
- 12:39Speaker 1: a book about telling you what you need to know
- 12:42Speaker 1: because you don't know. And I think that you did
- 12:44Speaker 1: a fantastic job and not making um white people feel
- 12:48Speaker 1: guilty or make them feel insecure, make them feel afraid.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You're just stayed in facts. The facts is that you
- 12:54Speaker 1: continuous direction. You're taking away. People can pay taxes, people
- 12:57Speaker 1: can build this country, people can make this country matter.
- 13:00Speaker 1: People can make America better of being incarcerated wrongfully. And
- 13:04Speaker 1: when they're being incarcerated, they can't even live a life.
- 13:08Speaker 1: They can an advantageous life to anybody. So all right,
- 13:12Speaker 1: all I can say, Ben, I want to continually push
- 13:14Speaker 1: your show. Thank you for taking the time to come
- 13:16Speaker 1: on the show. You know this a big week for
- 13:18Speaker 1: your book. I know I'm one of many interviews you're
- 13:20Speaker 1: gonna do this week. Ricky, smile at deal. You lose
- 13:23Speaker 1: Steve Harvard, Gayl Keen. But I got your first, brother.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I'm happy you got the first. And so I will
- 13:33Speaker 1: be with Sunny Houston at the stram uh And Broadway.
- 13:38Speaker 1: They say the largest book store of America, and then
- 13:40Speaker 1: I go to Ga Kane to Breakfast Club and we're
- 13:43Speaker 1: hit the mall. I think Bill Maher, it's set uh
- 13:48Speaker 1: for a taping on HBO Tank Open season of the
- 13:52Speaker 1: book that we need to spend in America. I appreciate
- 13:55Speaker 1: your brother, good luck man, thank you. We'll be right back.
- 14:02Speaker 1: More from Rashan McDonald and Money Making Conversations. Don't touch
- 14:05Speaker 1: that dot. Hey, this is Tasha Evans and I'd love
- 14:08Speaker 1: to eat a great restaurants and more than that, I
- 14:10Speaker 1: love great desserts. So does Rashan McDonald. Check out his
- 14:13Speaker 1: new website. That's www Rashan McDonald dot com. That's r
- 14:18Speaker 1: U s h i O N and McDonald is spelled
- 14:21Speaker 1: just like the famous restaurant chain guys. Rashawn is looking
- 14:24Speaker 1: for great bakers for his baker spotlight. He wants to
- 14:27Speaker 1: brag on his fans for their incredible baking skills on
- 14:29Speaker 1: his social media and website. That can be your mom, friend,
- 14:33Speaker 1: co worker, a relative. It's for the word today. As
- 14:35Speaker 1: hosts of Money Making Conversations, Rashan McDonald is uniquely positioned
- 14:39Speaker 1: to provide a step by step, easy to understand blueprint
- 14:42Speaker 1: that drives listeners to realize their dreams and aspirations. Until
- 14:46Speaker 1: you do the business plan or incorporate or actually create
- 14:50Speaker 1: that product or start selling products, the universe doesn't have
- 14:53Speaker 1: to deal with. Money Making Conversations is an innovative platform
- 14:57Speaker 1: that delivers financial literacy to help everyone in with their
- 15:00Speaker 1: brand success. It's good to have a money making conversation
- 15:03Speaker 1: with somebody that makes money. Money making conversation. I started
- 15:08Speaker 1: it on my Facebook page and teen when I was
- 15:11Speaker 1: managed in Steve Harvey and because people were asking me
- 15:16Speaker 1: to mentor them, and I knew my schedule wouldn't allow
- 15:18Speaker 1: me to mentor them because I was all over the
- 15:21Speaker 1: place trying to build a brand, my personal brand as
- 15:24Speaker 1: well as to build a brand and continue to build
- 15:26Speaker 1: a brand of Steve Harvey. It started like one question
- 15:30Speaker 1: on a Monday afternoon. I would do it, ask questions
- 15:34Speaker 1: for an hour. That session would last for three hours.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Who were they asking a questions about the business, questions
- 15:39Speaker 1: about motivation, how to be successful? Who should they talk
- 15:43Speaker 1: to the to learn information about being successful? Where can
- 15:46Speaker 1: they go to get information about being successful? That was
- 15:49Speaker 1: the basis of how I started Money Making Conversations on
- 15:51Speaker 1: my Facebook page in the twenties. Seventeen, I launched it
- 15:56Speaker 1: on a radio show in Houston, Texas, just called some
- 15:59Speaker 1: of my friends in the industry to call in. Didn't
- 16:02Speaker 1: know why I was doing the show, didn't have a
- 16:04Speaker 1: point of view of doing the show. And I stopped
- 16:07Speaker 1: because I realized that if you're gonna do something, if
- 16:09Speaker 1: you're gonna benefit somebody by giving them information, by motivating them,
- 16:12Speaker 1: by telling them how to be successful, you yourself. I
- 16:14Speaker 1: to understand how to do that, and so I relaunched
- 16:16Speaker 1: the Money Making Conversation Show in Atlanta, Georgia, and Uh,
- 16:22Speaker 1: eighty months later is on fire. Very successful show that's
- 16:26Speaker 1: being allowing entertainers to come on my show who are
- 16:28Speaker 1: actually actually small businesses because of social media. CEOs come
- 16:33Speaker 1: on my show. Uh, beggonaires, millionaires come on my show. Industries,
- 16:38Speaker 1: decision makers come on my show. And it's a show
- 16:40Speaker 1: that allows them to talk about their story, their story
- 16:43Speaker 1: from the standpoint of their highs and lows. How what
- 16:47Speaker 1: allows them to be successful this long period? That what
- 16:50Speaker 1: allows them be successful when they feel down, when they
- 16:53Speaker 1: when they doubt themselves, who did they turn to? What
- 16:55Speaker 1: what do relationships mean? And enabling them to be successful?
- 16:58Speaker 1: That's what this show money making conversation is all about.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And I'm your host, Rashan McDonalds. My guests, she's on
- 17:04Speaker 1: the phone already told her before she got on the
- 17:07Speaker 1: before we started an interview that I'm a big fan
- 17:09Speaker 1: and you have to be a big fan of a
- 17:11Speaker 1: person who has a career that is a as a
- 17:15Speaker 1: outstanding let's use the word outstanding as hers. My next
- 17:18Speaker 1: guest is the third generation Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate
- 17:22Speaker 1: of Washington d c. S. Howard University. You know the resume,
- 17:26Speaker 1: said the bodio said, Washington DC's Howard Universe. You don't
- 17:29Speaker 1: need to put Washington DC's in front of Howard University.
- 17:32Speaker 1: You say Howard University. And we all know what you're
- 17:35Speaker 1: talking about. And she's a member of the legendary Apha
- 17:38Speaker 1: Kafa Alpha sorority. You're talking to and you're listening to
- 17:42Speaker 1: a member of the Make a Side five fraternity Incorporated.
- 17:46Speaker 1: She became only the second black actress to win the
- 17:49Speaker 1: Prime time I mean it's Outstanding Lee Actress in the
- 17:52Speaker 1: miniseries or a special at the time for the Josephine
- 17:55Speaker 1: Baker story. That's when she just just was on the
- 17:58Speaker 1: face of everybody's mind as an incredible actress. I believe
- 18:01Speaker 1: that age range she had to act was from eighteen
- 18:03Speaker 1: to seventy in that in that particular casting, she was
- 18:07Speaker 1: truly outstanding. She has worked steadily in film and television
- 18:10Speaker 1: since her arrival in Hollywood, and she's on the show
- 18:13Speaker 1: today to discussed the fourth season on owned hit drama
- 18:17Speaker 1: series green Leaf. You can watch the show every Wednesday
- 18:20Speaker 1: at ten p m. Eastern and Pacific time, nine pm
- 18:24Speaker 1: Central Time on the owned network. That's Oprah's Network, but
- 18:27Speaker 1: cheaper Cheap portrays Lady Maid Greenley, the first Lady of
- 18:31Speaker 1: the Megachurch Calgary Fellowship World Ministries. Please welcome to Money
- 18:36Speaker 1: Making Conversations Lynn with Phil Oh, good morning, beautiful introduction. Well,
- 18:45Speaker 1: thank you. You know something I worked on it this morning.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I was saying, because because you don't want to give
- 18:51Speaker 1: too much, because it's just because I missed the stuff.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So I wanted to be general in certain areas just
- 18:56Speaker 1: but also let people know the power of your six says,
- 19:00Speaker 1: the power of your journey. And Josephine Baker, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: put you out there as an as an as a
- 19:07Speaker 1: true actress. From my standpoint, this is just Roushan sent
- 19:09Speaker 1: this because of the fact you, as I say, play
- 19:11Speaker 1: such an huge age range on in that in that
- 19:14Speaker 1: in that casting, and now today when I see you
- 19:17Speaker 1: on on the Green Leaf and we're going to talk
- 19:20Speaker 1: about that, it shows that your body of work just
- 19:24Speaker 1: continues to grow. Can we talk about that a little
- 19:26Speaker 1: bit before we really get into the interview about your
- 19:28Speaker 1: body of work? Well, I just called myself a storyteller,
- 19:35Speaker 1: and I enjoy it so much. I have such a
- 19:39Speaker 1: passion for it. And uh, you know, often, you know,
- 19:44Speaker 1: people will talk about color blind casting and all of
- 19:47Speaker 1: that and anybody can play any role, and that's true,
- 19:52Speaker 1: but anybody can't play a black woman. So you know,
- 19:59Speaker 1: we can go, yes, we can go and do like
- 20:01Speaker 1: of course I'm biased, you know, But the thing is
- 20:05Speaker 1: is that it brings me such joy and it's such
- 20:08Speaker 1: an honor for me to be a mirror to the
- 20:12Speaker 1: souls and to the just beings of of of black women,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know. So with Josephine Baker, it was I mean,
- 20:24Speaker 1: they screen tested and looked at everyone, and it was
- 20:30Speaker 1: so exciting to me that I got that, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 1: to be a black woman in every frame of a
- 20:36Speaker 1: of a film like carrying the movie. You know, that
- 20:40Speaker 1: was just so exciting, and and to carry a movie
- 20:45Speaker 1: with the story of such a trailblazer, such an icon,
- 20:51Speaker 1: such a full human being who made her mistakes, made
- 20:54Speaker 1: her financial mistakes, which I'm sure if she could talk
- 20:57Speaker 1: to you today or Sean, she would have done something
- 21:00Speaker 1: completely different. But but so that and you know, on
- 21:06Speaker 1: through the you know, the women of Bruce's Place and
- 21:11Speaker 1: sin line between love and hate, talking about you know
- 21:13Speaker 1: the importance of human beings, hearts and love all and
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know what happens when you filter that in the
- 21:21Speaker 1: wrong way and it turns your heart dark and hard.
- 21:25Speaker 1: You know that was exciting and now today with so
- 21:29Speaker 1: many things in between, you know, to bring this, uh,
- 21:34Speaker 1: Lady May May to life. You know that we in
- 21:38Speaker 1: the black community, we know her. She hasn't had much
- 21:42Speaker 1: time on television before this kind of woman, Lady May.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Let us talk about this. You know this, uh, this
- 21:51Speaker 1: setup that they have over here. You got Bob coming
- 21:54Speaker 1: in with his church. Basically he's taken over with more.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Can you believe it? Bow Bridge displayed by both and
- 22:01Speaker 1: then you couldn't have cast a better man than bow
- 22:03Speaker 1: Bridges White and introduced his culture into the African Americas. Basically,
- 22:10Speaker 1: what he's doing is he wants to envision the ministry
- 22:13Speaker 1: is like McDonald's. He wants by different churches around the country.
- 22:18Speaker 1: So you can go on his website and go if
- 22:20Speaker 1: you're in Dallas, just go to you know, his church there.
- 22:23Speaker 1: If you go to New York, go to his church there.
- 22:26Speaker 1: That's how his philosophy. It's called the Saving of Souls
- 22:29Speaker 1: as a franchise. Yes, you know, and and and and
- 22:33Speaker 1: I think it's an important storyline because it's happening. I mean,
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's happening all over the country. It's happening all over
- 22:41Speaker 1: the world. You know, people with you know, five six
- 22:44Speaker 1: campuses and all of that. And so the thing is is,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you know, I'm all for you know, all the numbers.
- 22:53Speaker 1: But you know, when we when one loses the purpose
- 22:59Speaker 1: of hoping people find their pathway the God, that that's
- 23:04Speaker 1: a problem, you know, not lady, Let's go back on
- 23:07Speaker 1: you not a little bit now, okay, now, okay, Grace, Now, okay, Grace.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Now he was out there doing something before, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 1: but we when we say that character was all straight.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Now okay, now you know we shut out there and
- 23:22Speaker 1: uh had a little fair, you say, one time only.
- 23:25Speaker 1: But the boy, the beautiful Grace who is now at
- 23:29Speaker 1: the front of the church and it's the only person
- 23:31Speaker 1: that can save the church. But she has her own
- 23:33Speaker 1: issues with this saw named a Jack. Okay, yes, this
- 23:37Speaker 1: show got to deal with her other crazy sister, Charity,
- 23:40Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And her brother Jacob, who's
- 23:42Speaker 1: a loser to But everybody's sitting around the table, and
- 23:45Speaker 1: sitting around the table because her husband, her husband, they
- 23:50Speaker 1: live in the same house, ain't he mad? No more?
- 23:53Speaker 1: I can't tell all the story, but Jacob needs is
- 23:56Speaker 1: behind whooped a little bit too. Now let's go over
- 23:59Speaker 1: to my face. The character on the show that's your
- 24:02Speaker 1: daughter Charity. She is a miss I say that, Lady
- 24:13Speaker 1: May Your daughter Charity is a hot mess on green Leaf.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Well she is, she is. She's just trying to find
- 24:24Speaker 1: her footing. And you know a lot of times the
- 24:28Speaker 1: baby in the family is like that. Babies and middle kids,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you know, like where do I fit in? Why is everybody?
- 24:36Speaker 1: Could you figure you know Grace Jacob had you know,
- 24:41Speaker 1: and space when she was still alive, because remember this
- 24:45Speaker 1: family is missing one of their family members who committed
- 24:50Speaker 1: two side. But you know, it's like by the time
- 24:55Speaker 1: charity came along, I would imagine, because you know, actors
- 24:58Speaker 1: have to have their back store, the backstory of what
- 25:02Speaker 1: it is. The audience never sees, but what you have
- 25:05Speaker 1: in your mind and your spirit and your motivations, well
- 25:09Speaker 1: for how you played a scene, and I would imagine
- 25:13Speaker 1: that charity. By the time charity came along, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 1: the church was starting to get a little bit more
- 25:20Speaker 1: on and popping, and they were busy, so she didn't
- 25:24Speaker 1: get the same kind of nurturing that she got spoiled
- 25:29Speaker 1: because they were made and things to help take care
- 25:33Speaker 1: of her, But she didn't have the best and most
- 25:38Speaker 1: highly um important character traits from her from her parents.
- 25:45Speaker 1: That's the other kids got. So that's why she's kind
- 25:48Speaker 1: of lost it before charities, he said this the husband
- 25:52Speaker 1: who figured out that he was gay, and then the
- 25:58Speaker 1: music producer who was kind of a philander himself, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: and now she wants to preach. But isn't that something
- 26:09Speaker 1: how offsprings of spiritual leaders or offsprings of you know,
- 26:16Speaker 1: in many churches, how often you do see the children
- 26:21Speaker 1: to step into like it, you know, just a regular
- 26:25Speaker 1: corporation absolutely absolutely. That's why I feel deserving to to
- 26:30Speaker 1: to to inherit the business. That's why it's so important
- 26:34Speaker 1: to listen to this look at this show this season,
- 26:36Speaker 1: because I felt that I was just gonna let you
- 26:38Speaker 1: know this, you know, this season to meet Lyn. When
- 26:41Speaker 1: I look at the characters are fully developed. Now, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: Grace got issues with a J. Nor now knows that
- 26:48Speaker 1: a J is his son and he knew nothing about that,
- 26:51Speaker 1: you know, dealing with that, you know. You know, now
- 26:54Speaker 1: the bishop trying to get back with you because you're
- 26:56Speaker 1: living in the same matchion. Charis are trying to get
- 26:59Speaker 1: our house and they can sell some land. Charity now
- 27:02Speaker 1: she's she's spying. She's the spy because Phil has assured her.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Once she gets once they kicked Grace out, he's gonna
- 27:09Speaker 1: be head pastor and he's gonna move up to a
- 27:12Speaker 1: p I know. So now Charity has this Jezebel slash
- 27:16Speaker 1: Judi spirit all over. I don't know. Oh Lord, these children,
- 27:21Speaker 1: I love it. I tell you, Lady may, I want
- 27:22Speaker 1: to thank you for coming on my show. You know,
- 27:24Speaker 1: I am a fan of you and I'm a fan
- 27:27Speaker 1: of green Leaf. So tell everybody to watch this show.

- 27:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell everybody, tell everybody that this show this

- 28:48Speaker 1: so exciting to be a part of this conversation. You know,
- 28:52Speaker 1: we're not about just creating generational wealth for generational health,
- 28:55Speaker 1: so this is an important conversation today. Well that's why
- 28:58Speaker 1: I started. Your health plays a major role in your success, Yes, sir, Yes, sir,
- 29:03Speaker 1: yes sir. Well you're talking to an all time bad
- 29:06Speaker 1: eater here, so uh so we're gonna help you out,
- 29:09Speaker 1: help me my wife she's over there, she's trying. She's trying,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you know, but and I keep breaking her down because
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know, I'm not gonna I'm refusing to do the
- 29:17Speaker 1: right thing, but I do the right thing periodically. But
- 29:20Speaker 1: great having you on the show. My first question want
- 29:23Speaker 1: to Coach Jesse Thompson. How did your journey lead you
- 29:26Speaker 1: to being coach Jesse Thompson. Well, first, please feel free
- 29:30Speaker 1: to just call me Coach Jesse because the Thompson makes
- 29:32Speaker 1: it even longer, so that saves some time. Like I
- 29:35Speaker 1: understand you people might google. I want to let everybody
- 29:38Speaker 1: know what I'm talking to it first. The rest of
- 29:40Speaker 1: thee will be Coach Jess appreciated. Well, you know, it
- 29:43Speaker 1: started out with my own help struggle with sean um.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It was battling, you know, as one of the of
- 29:50Speaker 1: black women who battles five words by age fifty. And
- 29:55Speaker 1: you know, this is not just an epidemic that affects
- 29:57Speaker 1: Black women, but it affects up to women at large.
- 30:00Speaker 1: So this is a female epidemic, okay, but when you
- 30:03Speaker 1: look at us as Black women, it affects up to
- 30:05Speaker 1: nine of us because it affects as disproportionately. Excuse me,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and I bet them. I battled fibroids, uterine fibroids, which
- 30:13Speaker 1: are small, small um tumors that form in the uterine
- 30:18Speaker 1: lining or inside the uterus um. But you know in
- 30:21Speaker 1: many places in the uterus um specifically, they cause things
- 30:25Speaker 1: such as um telvic pain um, heavy heavy severe bleeding
- 30:31Speaker 1: that is really more hemorrhaging to a meat that causes
- 30:35Speaker 1: anemia um as well as you know, severe conditions that
- 30:39Speaker 1: even lead to cardiac arrest um. And the critical thing
- 30:44Speaker 1: here is that it is an epidemic, and I didn't
- 30:46Speaker 1: know it was when I was battling it. So I
- 30:48Speaker 1: battled them for fourteen years, and ten of those years
- 30:52Speaker 1: actually battled in fertility that was caused by the fibroids
- 30:56Speaker 1: I saw myself. I ended up UM, I ended up
- 30:59Speaker 1: at actually experiencing twelve surgeries, five of them major surgeries.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Five of them were four or five boys, and five
- 31:07Speaker 1: of them were for complications from those five boys. And
- 31:12Speaker 1: because of the infertility that the five birds were causing,
- 31:14Speaker 1: my husband and I struggled, as I said, to conceive. UM,
- 31:18Speaker 1: we had a devastating miscarriage. And October is actually Pregnancy
- 31:25Speaker 1: and Instant Loss Awareness month. UM, So I really I'm
- 31:29Speaker 1: sharing love for those women who the day actually is
- 31:31Speaker 1: October fifteenth is the day and the month is October.
- 31:34Speaker 1: But I know what it's like to lose a child, um,
- 31:37Speaker 1: And many people don't even realize how that mentally breaks
- 31:40Speaker 1: you down in this whole process. It's just a whole
- 31:43Speaker 1: other animal, you understands. So we underwent five IVF cycles
- 31:47Speaker 1: to try to conceive. And that's a real financial blow rashan,
- 31:51Speaker 1: because you know, advanced reproductive technologies such as in vitro
- 31:54Speaker 1: fertilization are not typically especially when I was doing it, um,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you know, more than years ago, it was not covered
- 32:02Speaker 1: by insurance, and we had to come out of pockets
- 32:04Speaker 1: sometimes ten fifteen m twenty dollars at a time in
- 32:08Speaker 1: the stam So you can see how financial stress um
- 32:12Speaker 1: only really it multiplied the overall effect of what we
- 32:18Speaker 1: were going through health wise. Um. And you know, finally
- 32:22Speaker 1: we conceived as the result of our fifth IF cycle.
- 32:26Speaker 1: And even then after we thought, you know, oh we're
- 32:29Speaker 1: in the we're in we're in the clear now um
- 32:32Speaker 1: At at twenty one weeks, you know, my doctor actually
- 32:35Speaker 1: sat across the table from me and at at a
- 32:38Speaker 1: regular consult um and said to me that we needed
- 32:42Speaker 1: to consider terminating our pregnancy. That took us ten years
- 32:47Speaker 1: to achieve at that time. So Rashan, you can imagine,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I remember that moment. I can always put myself back
- 32:53Speaker 1: in that moment, and I remember something bizing up within
- 32:56Speaker 1: me as a woman of faith and saying no, no, no,
- 32:59Speaker 1: we are eavers, We are people of faith, and we
- 33:01Speaker 1: didn't struggle in battle for ten years to not give
- 33:04Speaker 1: this baby a chance. We believe in miracles. Um. You know,
- 33:09Speaker 1: six weeks later, I was admitted to the hospital because
- 33:11Speaker 1: the condition worse. And then it was because Rashaun, the
- 33:14Speaker 1: fire woods had grown and they were now competing with
- 33:17Speaker 1: the baby for the life by life store which is
- 33:20Speaker 1: a blood so literally it was sipening off the blood
- 33:23Speaker 1: supply that was supposed to be going to the child.
- 33:26Speaker 1: So the condition was something called fetal growth restrictions. The
- 33:29Speaker 1: baby was not growing enough. Right, So here we are,
- 33:34Speaker 1: they're telling me everything. This baby is not supposed to
- 33:36Speaker 1: be here. This baby is not supposed to live. But
- 33:39Speaker 1: you know, as I said, we have prayer worries all
- 33:44Speaker 1: as our faith. Yes, and even though even at the
- 33:47Speaker 1: last minute on the delivery table, you know, my heart
- 33:51Speaker 1: stopped on the delivery table, but we both made it
- 33:54Speaker 1: through and I was happy to say that we gave
- 33:58Speaker 1: birth to my new for amazing miracle baby via Madison,
- 34:03Speaker 1: which means purposeful warrior because she's literally that she epitomizes
- 34:09Speaker 1: that on September eighth, two thousand eleven, at two and
- 34:12Speaker 1: a half pounds. Well, I know where the baby or
- 34:17Speaker 1: new child, uh we did for me. Give your future
- 34:21Speaker 1: gives you a sense of clearly understanding your purpose and
- 34:25Speaker 1: the positivity and watching that this is a blank slate
- 34:28Speaker 1: that you brought into the world. Anything that you that
- 34:31Speaker 1: what you're giving this child is what's going to determine
- 34:34Speaker 1: their future. All the emotions, all the structure. So our congratulations, congratulations,
- 34:39Speaker 1: thank you. And you know what, Sean, what was the
- 34:41Speaker 1: crazy thing is that when I birthed her, she birthed
- 34:44Speaker 1: me into my work and purpose. Because when UM the
- 34:50Speaker 1: first year of our life, Essence magazine did a profile
- 34:52Speaker 1: on our story called My Fertility Journey, and it went viral.
- 34:56Speaker 1: For Sean, it was women all over the world pouring
- 35:00Speaker 1: in comments and sharing it and telling me, thank you
- 35:03Speaker 1: so much for sharing your story. Your story has given
- 35:05Speaker 1: me hope. You don't know I've had this many surgeries.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I've been trying to concede for this long. Oh my god,
- 35:10Speaker 1: right now. You don't understand. I was ready to give up.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing, and they had been suffering in
- 35:15Speaker 1: silence because remember, I thought it was just my own
- 35:18Speaker 1: personal health. I didn't know an epidemic and epidemic. I
- 35:21Speaker 1: didn't know that millions of women were battling this because
- 35:24Speaker 1: we were talking about it right so here it was
- 35:28Speaker 1: this now gave me awareness of how and how ethic
- 35:32Speaker 1: this was. And I was like, wait a minute, wait
- 35:34Speaker 1: a minute, where are the marches, Where are the you know,
- 35:38Speaker 1: the the awareness UM campaigns, and where the campaigns? You
- 35:43Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, this is affecting women seventy of
- 35:46Speaker 1: women at large, what in the world. And I started
- 35:50Speaker 1: to do advocacy work for Shan. I started to you know, uh,
- 35:53Speaker 1: participate in congressional briefings and and and on panels and
- 35:57Speaker 1: alongside g y n s. And what I realized at
- 36:01Speaker 1: that time and that it was it was the same
- 36:05Speaker 1: story that they were telling, was the same story they
- 36:08Speaker 1: had been telling me, that we don't know what causes it,
- 36:10Speaker 1: we don't know, it just happens. And I said, that's
- 36:13Speaker 1: not that's not it can't be true. You know what
- 36:15Speaker 1: I'm saying, Rashwan that just said it to me, And
- 36:17Speaker 1: I said a prayer. I remember, I said, sitting up
- 36:20Speaker 1: in my room where I said, God, this can't be right.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Can you can I be part of the cure? And
- 36:25Speaker 1: I remember heusly, like literally at that time, I didn't
- 36:30Speaker 1: realize it, but the fire words were still coming back again. Okay,
- 36:33Speaker 1: after I had my daughter right and I came to
- 36:37Speaker 1: this point where finally traditional medicine failed me. Rashaan, Okay,
- 36:42Speaker 1: but the food is becoming engaging to people like me,
- 36:46Speaker 1: that you're winding up, that you're becoming a sellable and
- 36:49Speaker 1: marketable to the general public now. And it's really interesting
- 36:53Speaker 1: because big money now big money, because it's really interesting
- 36:56Speaker 1: because the people made this change. You know what I said,
- 37:00Speaker 1: we don't want, you know, this product that has all
- 37:02Speaker 1: this sugar. We don't want this fried food, and so
- 37:05Speaker 1: we want to know what the calories are, what exactly
- 37:07Speaker 1: are we eating at these various restaurants put it on
- 37:09Speaker 1: the menu so we know. So we as a people
- 37:13Speaker 1: decided we want to know. And so the industry to say, oh,
- 37:17Speaker 1: we can't keep fooling them now, like you said earlier
- 37:19Speaker 1: about that medicine, we can't keep fooling We gotta start
- 37:22Speaker 1: telling them. And then they said, okay, now long do
- 37:24Speaker 1: we have to start telling them because they're not even
- 37:26Speaker 1: buying the product that we are forcing on them, Like
- 37:28Speaker 1: we're saying, this is your only option to eat this
- 37:30Speaker 1: type of food or this type of candy or this
- 37:32Speaker 1: type of cake. We're going to have to adjust our menus,
- 37:36Speaker 1: adjust our our products on our store shaps to say
- 37:40Speaker 1: we hear you, here you are, and that's why our
- 37:42Speaker 1: person like me enjoying the impossible burger, which they have
- 37:46Speaker 1: they have the wall Burgs has an impossible burger Burger
- 37:49Speaker 1: King when all these places, but I've been at Burger
- 37:52Speaker 1: King three times. It's great. I enjoyed. I'm about to
- 37:55Speaker 1: go get a double. You know, I'm getting double. I'm
- 37:58Speaker 1: getting double. I gotta I gotta throw round now, I
- 38:00Speaker 1: gotta give me a whapp whopp a bond with a
- 38:03Speaker 1: double burger? Oh my lord, Well, let me let me
- 38:06Speaker 1: chime in on that. Right. So you know, everybody's on
- 38:09Speaker 1: their journey. And this is the thing. I think people
- 38:11Speaker 1: are sick and tired of being stick. Okay, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 1: diseases are at epic proportions right now in terms of
- 38:17Speaker 1: the levels, whether it's you know, cancer, every major disease
- 38:20Speaker 1: you can think of, it's the the what you call
- 38:23Speaker 1: the obesity high numbers. And people are saying, wait a minute,
- 38:27Speaker 1: what can we do about it? Because traditional medicine really
- 38:30Speaker 1: has really been about treatment and not prevention, right, And
- 38:34Speaker 1: the money is in the treatment, the money is not
- 38:36Speaker 1: in the cure. But we know when you change what
- 38:38Speaker 1: you eat, you can actually prevent and reverse these things
- 38:41Speaker 1: because you let your body do the work it's supposed
- 38:43Speaker 1: to do. But so what we say to people is,
- 38:45Speaker 1: you know, everybody is on a journey and what we
- 38:48Speaker 1: know about food that actually is your medicine. You want
- 38:51Speaker 1: to use foods that are non hybrid, foods, that are
- 38:53Speaker 1: not synthetic, foods that are all natural, they're non gmo, right,
- 38:57Speaker 1: plant based foods. Those foods actually help your body do
- 39:00Speaker 1: the reverse work. This help help kiss your body into
- 39:03Speaker 1: the work where it's actually um in breaking down the inflammation. Now,
- 39:08Speaker 1: there's a lot of stuff that's out there under the
- 39:10Speaker 1: vegan label, Rashan, but I'm not gonna lie to it.
- 39:12Speaker 1: It's not all good. Okay, slow down, Yeah, yeah, I'm
- 39:17Speaker 1: gonna slow you down there. I'm gonna tell you why, okay,
- 39:19Speaker 1: because they're it's sort of like the guy. They they're
- 39:22Speaker 1: giving you the carrot okay and hoping that you'll stay there.
- 39:25Speaker 1: But I'm going to give you a bigger picture because
- 39:28Speaker 1: while the impossible burger is making you feel like okay,
- 39:31Speaker 1: it's a good first step to eating that. You know,
- 39:34Speaker 1: the ribs. Because I was a major conivo rashankay for
- 39:38Speaker 1: all of this, somebody I could eat ox tails every day.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I got engaged at a Tony Rowan rib plate. That
- 39:44Speaker 1: was my life, you understand I'm saying so for me,
- 39:48Speaker 1: I needed that I when I finally realized that my
- 39:50Speaker 1: health was on the line and what power was in
- 39:53Speaker 1: my hand to change it? Rashan, when I realized, wait
- 39:56Speaker 1: a minute, the food is not entertainment. The food is
- 39:59Speaker 1: my medicine. Okay. When I started to understand that, I
- 40:02Speaker 1: went hardcore and I read the benefits of it, and
- 40:05Speaker 1: so are all of our clients. Okay, but the key
- 40:08Speaker 1: thing is understand that people are trying to get their foods,
- 40:11Speaker 1: that things like impossible burger and beyond meat. You have
- 40:14Speaker 1: to be careful in terms of being long term on them.
- 40:18Speaker 1: You may say, you know what, I'm trying to taste
- 40:20Speaker 1: this to see can I even can I even try?
- 40:23Speaker 1: Can I do yesterday? So I'm trying to diversify. I
- 40:28Speaker 1: know what you're saying, Yes, sir, listen. And it's a journey.
- 40:31Speaker 1: It's a journey. One of the some of the best
- 40:34Speaker 1: best calls I had. I'll have a brother. Oh I
- 40:37Speaker 1: did it, Jessee, I did it. You know, I stopped
- 40:39Speaker 1: eating and I'm eating this now. I'm like, see, brother,
- 40:42Speaker 1: this is it. And it's the first step for you
- 40:44Speaker 1: even thinking differently. You know, then you you you put
- 40:47Speaker 1: your dick, your toe in it. The next thing we
- 40:49Speaker 1: want you to do is to start saying, okay, wait
- 40:51Speaker 1: a minute now, really understanding what those labels means. You know,
- 40:54Speaker 1: because because it just has the VEGN label doesn't mean
- 40:57Speaker 1: it's healthy. Like you know, the that that name you
- 41:01Speaker 1: talked about has something called glutamic acid. You know those burgers,
- 41:05Speaker 1: and they can they can cause glutamate. They can cause
- 41:07Speaker 1: things like bloating and nada and vomiting and diarrhea. But understand,
- 41:12Speaker 1: for your body, for somebody who's coming from where you
- 41:14Speaker 1: are coming from, it's gonna be like a leap. Okay,
- 41:19Speaker 1: I got wrapped this up. I want to bring you
- 41:22Speaker 1: back on the show. You're amazing. Uh d dtox now

- 42:39Speaker 1: be successful. You're listening, I will tell you where to go,
- 42:42Speaker 1: who to talk to, who to meet, and what's the
- 42:44Speaker 1: write down. It's important that you write down information. A
- 42:47Speaker 1: lot of people don't do that. They try to memorize
- 42:49Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, get into conversation, something happens.
- 42:52Speaker 1: They forget right down what is important to you. Because
- 42:55Speaker 1: what's important to you will have value for you as
- 42:58Speaker 1: long as you can find it. If you can't find
- 43:00Speaker 1: what is valuable to you, they will not have any
- 43:03Speaker 1: value to your success. Now money and education. Education and money.
- 43:08Speaker 1: People tell you that if you get a college degree,
- 43:11Speaker 1: it would lead to a better life, But what they
- 43:13Speaker 1: don't talk about is the money involved in that process.
- 43:16Speaker 1: So many levels, my next guest has helped hundreds of
- 43:19Speaker 1: thousands of students make smart decisions with their money, relationships,
- 43:23Speaker 1: and education. He's a national bestselling author and travels the
- 43:27Speaker 1: country as a Ramsey personality spreading his encouraging message to
- 43:31Speaker 1: have teens and young adults start their lives off right.
- 43:34Speaker 1: His latest book Depth, Debt Free Degree Not just this month.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversations. Anthony O'Neill man. Good morning,
- 43:44Speaker 1: Thanks so much for having me on, sir, appreciate the opportunity.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Where are we calling you? Where are you calling in
- 43:49Speaker 1: from my friend man? Right now? I'm gonna book to her, So,
- 43:52Speaker 1: I mean Los Angeles, California today and tomorrow. Then we
- 43:55Speaker 1: fly out to Denver, Colorado, then from there to Houston.
- 43:59Speaker 1: So I'm just out here traveling the world trying to
- 44:01Speaker 1: spread this message and help a lot of parents and
- 44:03Speaker 1: young people as much as the pots we can. Well,
- 44:06Speaker 1: you know we were I just left Houston, Houston. This
- 44:08Speaker 1: is my well. I was born and raised at a
- 44:09Speaker 1: home in Houston, so I know that's a great, great
- 44:12Speaker 1: place to eat. I'll be in Los Angeles on Friday,
- 44:15Speaker 1: so we're kind of like missing ourselves. I would not
- 44:17Speaker 1: be in Denver. Denver, Colorado. It's Colorado, my favorite state.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I love the weather, they I love the views in Colorado.
- 44:25Speaker 1: So you're going a lot of places that I enjoy,
- 44:27Speaker 1: which means that you change. I'm looking forward to Denver
- 44:30Speaker 1: to see the people, but not for the weather. It's
- 44:32Speaker 1: snowing in Code I black brother. I don't know whether
- 44:35Speaker 1: I black brother do, but I love that code. I
- 44:39Speaker 1: used to photo the if you dress like me, Mr O'Neill,
- 44:43Speaker 1: you wouldn't going to Denver because brother, I got some clothes.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Let's talk about you in this book, man. I read
- 44:49Speaker 1: it and I enjoyed it, and uh. I had a
- 44:51Speaker 1: twenty two year old daughter who's in college. She's a junior.
- 44:54Speaker 1: I brag about it because she's a National Honest Society student.
- 44:57Speaker 1: But of course she has her dad, and her dad
- 45:00Speaker 1: is paying for her education, so she's not hitting in
- 45:02Speaker 1: these moments where you have to concern yourself about debt free. Now,
- 45:05Speaker 1: dad went to college and I had some grants that
- 45:08Speaker 1: allowed me to go through college and then I work
- 45:10Speaker 1: part time at night, so I left college debt free.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I had no issues about credit card problems and things
- 45:15Speaker 1: like that. So I clearly understand there is an issue.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Their companies on TV right now to tell you if
- 45:21Speaker 1: you give it, we can we can get you out
- 45:22Speaker 1: of college debt. There people to the politicians trying to
- 45:25Speaker 1: create formats where you can walk away from the debt.
- 45:28Speaker 1: So this book and this conversation you're having is a
- 45:31Speaker 1: national epidemic. I'm gonna use the word epidemic that people
- 45:34Speaker 1: are trying to figure out how they can fix it.
- 45:37Speaker 1: What is your book telling us what to do? Talking
- 45:39Speaker 1: about that? Well, my book is really much pretty much
- 45:42Speaker 1: the step by step process to how we can get
- 45:44Speaker 1: our young people into college and through college debt free.
- 45:47Speaker 1: We got one point six trillion dollars and student loan debt.
- 45:50Speaker 1: They average graduate with about thirty five thousand dollars and
- 45:53Speaker 1: student loan debt. But then the fifth of our students
- 45:55Speaker 1: will graduate with a hundred thousand allars or more. You know,
- 45:58Speaker 1: so many people relying on the government for the student
- 46:00Speaker 1: loan forgiveness program and all this other type of stuff,
- 46:03Speaker 1: but here's my thing, and we need to start taking
- 46:05Speaker 1: ownership for ourselves. And I graduated UM High School thirty
- 46:10Speaker 1: five thousand. I wasn't dead homes before the night before
- 46:12Speaker 1: I was nineteen years old and took out ten thousand
- 46:15Speaker 1: all student loans, and nobody really explained to me what
- 46:17Speaker 1: exactly will these loans do for my future? And so
- 46:21Speaker 1: just after doing a bunch of research and just really
- 46:23Speaker 1: diving in with my team and I'm you know, we
- 46:26Speaker 1: literally came up with the process of saying, here, here's
- 46:29Speaker 1: a step by step process on how you can get
- 46:31Speaker 1: your child into college and through college debt free. This
- 46:35Speaker 1: is not just an encouragement book. This is from seventh
- 46:38Speaker 1: grade through twelfth grade. If you follow this plan, your
- 46:41Speaker 1: child will go to school debt free. Right now. The
- 46:44Speaker 1: interesting thing before we started off, all right, it was
- 46:47Speaker 1: uthing what what is they gonna asker this coomercial because
- 46:49Speaker 1: they caret popping up? What is a Dave Ramsey personality
- 46:52Speaker 1: because it's mentioned as part of your credits. Let's talk
- 46:54Speaker 1: about that. Yeah, So Dave Rany, the financial group, mentor
- 46:58Speaker 1: of Minds and UH and and the pretty much the
- 47:00Speaker 1: leader of my current career. UM You know, everyone knows
- 47:03Speaker 1: Dave Ramsey for the number two, number three talk radio
- 47:06Speaker 1: show in the world, and so he's bringing in personalities
- 47:09Speaker 1: who will help spread his message in our own messages.
- 47:12Speaker 1: You know, Dave is preparing to for successions. Whenever he
- 47:15Speaker 1: plans to retire or whenever God transitions him. He wants
- 47:19Speaker 1: to make sure that his company, um and his message
- 47:21Speaker 1: can still reach the world. So there's five of us.
- 47:23Speaker 1: You have his daughter, that you have Chris Hogan, Ken Coleman,
- 47:26Speaker 1: Chrissie right, then you have myself and then we're all
- 47:29Speaker 1: in different different spokes. I would say I'm in the
- 47:32Speaker 1: team Millennial and African American space is really helping young
- 47:35Speaker 1: people avoid debt, get out of debt, and build wealth.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Then you have Chris Hogan's who's focused on helping people
- 47:41Speaker 1: retire millionaires and in the NAT Spoken and Kim Coleman
- 47:44Speaker 1: helping young people get into their dream jobs and careers.
- 47:47Speaker 1: So we're all in our different spaces. Uh. Dave Ramsey
- 47:50Speaker 1: is the head of personality. You know, we have nearly
- 47:53Speaker 1: a thousand team members there in Nashville, Tennessee, and we're
- 47:56Speaker 1: just here to help people be good stewards of their money,
- 47:59Speaker 1: become debt free, can just build wealth and leave a
- 48:01Speaker 1: legacy rather than dying with debt and just living paycheck
- 48:04Speaker 1: to paycheck, Which is great because I wanted to get
- 48:07Speaker 1: that explained because a lot of people try. He's a mentor,
- 48:09Speaker 1: but now he's a business relationship as well, which is
- 48:11Speaker 1: really good. Now, how did you come across creating this
- 48:14Speaker 1: relationship with someone like a Dave Ramsey? You know? For me,
- 48:18Speaker 1: I was pastoring in Jacksonville, Florida, had the opportunity to
- 48:21Speaker 1: serve up beneath the Great Bishop Rudolph mckessick Jr. In Jacksonville, Florida,
- 48:25Speaker 1: about nearly thirty thousand members, and they're what I was
- 48:28Speaker 1: doing was taking my message into high schools and two
- 48:31Speaker 1: colleges and traveling around the world speaking for people like
- 48:34Speaker 1: Bishop titt Jake's, Bishop Eddie Loan before he passed out
- 48:37Speaker 1: the cryftlo dollars, some big names UM, and just really
- 48:40Speaker 1: spreading the message of life skills to young people from
- 48:42Speaker 1: a spiritual perspective and grew one of the largest youth
- 48:45Speaker 1: ministries UM urban youth ministries in the world. And so
- 48:49Speaker 1: with building something and such as that and traveling as
- 48:51Speaker 1: much as I was traveling, I was getting different opportunities
- 48:54Speaker 1: from different people, UM, and Dave Ramsey was one of them.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Him and his team was looking for a good millennial
- 48:59Speaker 1: guy to somebody spread the message. UM. And then they've
- 49:02Speaker 1: seen this young, sharp African American man who made some mistakes,
- 49:06Speaker 1: who's a flawed brother, but he still has a passion
- 49:08Speaker 1: to help people, but the godfearing message. And they asked
- 49:11Speaker 1: me to come in and I joined the team five
- 49:12Speaker 1: years ago. Actually. Okay, Now, early on in your book,
- 49:15Speaker 1: when you talk about your father and you talk about
- 49:18Speaker 1: how you will have benefited you to go to school,
- 49:22Speaker 1: the g I playing on the y. So my father
- 49:26Speaker 1: served thirty five years in the army, and so I
- 49:28Speaker 1: had my father's g I bill. We didn't know anything
- 49:31Speaker 1: about college, we didn't know anything about scholarships, but I
- 49:33Speaker 1: have my father's g I bill that I also had
- 49:35Speaker 1: a partners scholarship from the NFL, the National Forensics League.
- 49:39Speaker 1: So when I went up to college, I honestly didn't
- 49:41Speaker 1: need a dime for school, but I took out ten
- 49:43Speaker 1: thousand dollars just to fund my lifestyle. I know, and
- 49:46Speaker 1: I know, I know, it's it's crazy, you know, Like
- 49:49Speaker 1: I said, I saw my friends the card and the clothes,
- 49:52Speaker 1: the food, you know, the apartment and not realizing that,
- 49:56Speaker 1: guess what, somebody's gonna ask for this and you may
- 49:58Speaker 1: not have that, you may not have the full time
- 50:00Speaker 1: job to be able to pay it back. But god,
- 50:02Speaker 1: you're living great. Let's go. Oh man, I had a blast.
- 50:05Speaker 1: You know. I was treating all the young ladies out
- 50:07Speaker 1: to eat. I was putting rims on the car. You
- 50:11Speaker 1: know I had it. But you know you're right. You
- 50:12Speaker 1: know I'm looking at you on the cover. Here got
- 50:15Speaker 1: your Shanola, watch you on and everything. I'm looking at you, brother,
- 50:18Speaker 1: you know, because I gotta know list so I know
- 50:20Speaker 1: you got. I know you got styled. I know I
- 50:22Speaker 1: know you understand that swag conversations and let me ask
- 50:26Speaker 1: you this, like, you know, I just finished a big
- 50:27Speaker 1: contract with National Guard and and one of the things
- 50:31Speaker 1: was about you know, they'll pay for the college education
- 50:34Speaker 1: and served close to home weekend warrior. I didn't see
- 50:37Speaker 1: anything like that. It's part of your book or any
- 50:40Speaker 1: of the reserves or any of the all National Guardians
- 50:43Speaker 1: as an option to be able to go to them,
- 50:46Speaker 1: to be able to enlist and be allowed them to
- 50:49Speaker 1: pay for the education. Any reason why you didn't choose
- 50:52Speaker 1: to put any of them into your book, Well, no,
- 50:55Speaker 1: they're they're briefly in the book. I didn't do a
- 50:56Speaker 1: full chapter on the Army reserve or about the military.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I get sell different options and different opportunities to do it. Um.
- 51:02Speaker 1: A lot of people are aware of what the army
- 51:05Speaker 1: and the military brings to the table um clearly in
- 51:08Speaker 1: the book. What I really wanted to do was just
- 51:10Speaker 1: give everyone a clear route option um and all of
- 51:13Speaker 1: the options. So I couldn't afford to go through every
- 51:15Speaker 1: single thing, but we do mention and we do have
- 51:17Speaker 1: a quick page or two in the book about what
- 51:20Speaker 1: will the army in the military provide um for that
- 51:23Speaker 1: as well. Let's start mis huge component of it though,
- 51:26Speaker 1: absolutely absolutely, Let's let's talk about the book and who
- 51:29Speaker 1: you're reaching and things like that. Start from the beginning. Okay,
- 51:33Speaker 1: we talked about your story and an eighteen homeless You know,
- 51:36Speaker 1: you you built a huge ministry, you're reaching millennials, and
- 51:41Speaker 1: what is the number one mistake that a person in
- 51:46Speaker 1: college about to go to college, graduate from college is
- 51:50Speaker 1: doing with their finances. Well, there's two things I would say.
- 51:54Speaker 1: The top two things, the top two mistakes that I'm
- 51:56Speaker 1: seeing with young people today and even parents is that
- 51:58Speaker 1: they're taking out student loans. They do not have a
- 52:00Speaker 1: vision and a plan for their life. So I always
- 52:04Speaker 1: tell people up front, if you really want to go
- 52:05Speaker 1: to college, let's go to college. And if you want
- 52:07Speaker 1: to go to college debt free, we gotta take debt
- 52:09Speaker 1: off of the table, and we gotta have a vision.
- 52:12Speaker 1: We gotta have a plan for what we're going to do.
- 52:14Speaker 1: And so, really, if this book is important to me
- 52:19Speaker 1: to promote for you, because if you don't start telling
- 52:22Speaker 1: people the responsibility of finances at the early age, they
- 52:25Speaker 1: become horrible adults. Yeah, they really do. And that's something
- 52:29Speaker 1: that you know, set Ramsey Solutions and myself and my
- 52:32Speaker 1: team are really just passionate about doing because I didn't
- 52:35Speaker 1: have the education. I was just told go to schollege,
- 52:37Speaker 1: get get a seven hundred credit score, um, and you'll
- 52:41Speaker 1: be successful and get a good job. When all of
- 52:43Speaker 1: my mentors from Dave Ramsey, Mark Cuban, it's like, man,
- 52:46Speaker 1: forgetting credit score, Let's get get money in your bank account.
- 52:49Speaker 1: You know, let's be just be debt free. Let's just
- 52:51Speaker 1: go after our dreams has build wealth, and we're on
- 52:53Speaker 1: a mission not just with this book, just even with
- 52:56Speaker 1: you know, we have one out of three our high
- 52:58Speaker 1: schools have our high school curriculums where we're trying to
- 53:01Speaker 1: bring this information down to the middle schools and high
- 53:04Speaker 1: schoolers while they're in school, so that way when they graduate,
- 53:06Speaker 1: they know how to budget, they know the difference between
- 53:08Speaker 1: a credit card and debit card. They can start purchasing
- 53:11Speaker 1: homes at an early age. They can start investing at
- 53:14Speaker 1: age eighteen nineteen and building up the row four one
- 53:17Speaker 1: K the roth Ira. So what you're saying, you and
- 53:19Speaker 1: I are on the same page that we have to
- 53:22Speaker 1: make sure that we don't owe anybody, and we gotta
- 53:24Speaker 1: make sure where he's getting this information out to our
- 53:26Speaker 1: young people earlier on. But it also starts by getting
- 53:29Speaker 1: this information to their parents, which is why I wrote
- 53:31Speaker 1: this book, because they are the number one influences in
- 53:34Speaker 1: their lives. Absolutely, Anthony states, that's Anthony who's speaking on
- 53:37Speaker 1: the phone stage. There are three main ways to pay
- 53:39Speaker 1: cash for college, saving money, finding money, and work, And
- 53:44Speaker 1: that's what this book amounts to and also putting forth
- 53:47Speaker 1: effort and realizing that look at look at your future,
- 53:50Speaker 1: post graduate, look at your future, not at the moment,
- 53:53Speaker 1: but down the line. And I think that was a
- 53:55Speaker 1: natural thing for me that I picked up along the way.
- 53:58Speaker 1: And so if I can figure out a way to
