- 0:07Speaker 1: has the secrets of success experience firsthand by marketing and
- 0:10Speaker 1: Brandon expert Rashan McDonald. I will know he's giving me
- 0:13Speaker 1: advice on many occasions. In occasion didn't notice, I'm not broke.
- 0:17Speaker 1: You know. He'll be interviewing celebrity CEOs, entrepreneurs and industry
- 0:20Speaker 1: decision makers. It's what he likes to do, it's what
- 0:23Speaker 1: he likes to share. Now it's time to hear from
- 0:25Speaker 1: my man, Rashan McDonald Money Making Conversation. Give thanks Steven Hey.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Working to Money Making Conversation. I'm your host, Rashan McDonald.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I recognize that we all have different definitions of success.
- 0:38Speaker 1: For some, it's a sizeable paycheck. Mine is helping people
- 0:41Speaker 1: wake up and inspiring them to accomplish their goals and
- 0:43Speaker 1: live their very best life. These are my passion. That's
- 0:46Speaker 1: what I'm going to do for you. That's why I
- 0:48Speaker 1: created Money Making Conversations. I want you to stop tripping
- 0:50Speaker 1: over small challenges and prepared to rise above the bigger
- 0:53Speaker 1: obstacles the life will present to you. My next guess, Wow,
- 0:58Speaker 1: it's Taron Hall Harp for the syndicated show, which has
- 1:01Speaker 1: been renewed for a third season. Tamarin Hall Show, that
- 1:04Speaker 1: she executive produces, is a daily destination for viewers to
- 1:07Speaker 1: connect with people shaping our lives through meaningful, engaging, and
- 1:11Speaker 1: entertaining conversations that help heal and inform during these uncertain
- 1:15Speaker 1: pandemic times. This year, she won the Daytime Email Award
- 1:20Speaker 1: for Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host for her first season. Wow.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Tamer Show continues to be a conversational starter, past guests
- 1:28Speaker 1: including My Man, Steve Samuel Jackson, Melissa Etrid, David Arquette,
- 1:32Speaker 1: Tire Banks, Nellie, Michael Fisherman, Chris Evans, and Stars Like
- 1:36Speaker 1: a Girl Ninnie Lakes, among others. The second season Tamaron
- 1:39Speaker 1: Hall has been even bigger and more informative. Please welcome
- 1:42Speaker 1: to money making Conversations, Tamarin Hall. It's so good to
- 1:47Speaker 1: be with you. Hey, Tamar, set you up right, and
- 1:50Speaker 1: you know you're doing so much. I just say, I
- 1:52Speaker 1: gotta gotta get the intro, ride, gotta get the flows.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you did better than Wikipedia and my mother.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You're good. I'm a Texas boy born and raised in Houston, Texas,
- 2:05Speaker 1: so I know your background from Texas as well. So
- 2:07Speaker 1: how's life treating you right now? Being an Emmy award
- 2:10Speaker 1: window being picked up for things considered? You know, it's
- 2:14Speaker 1: so hard we're trying to answer that question these days,
- 2:16Speaker 1: as you know, because it's with everything that's happening in
- 2:19Speaker 1: the world and all of the difficulties and challenges. It's
- 2:24Speaker 1: you don't want to say I'm great, but all things considered,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I'm good. My family is healthy, my son is healthy,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and I have the show and a platforms just like
- 2:33Speaker 1: you to use our voice in the right way. Well,
- 2:35Speaker 1: it's really important, I know. You know, I launched Steve
- 2:37Speaker 1: Harvey's talk show in twenty twelve, and I was waiting
- 2:40Speaker 1: for five years on in Chicago, and in fact, we
- 2:43Speaker 1: met a couple of times with New York with Today's
- 2:47Speaker 1: Show and all those to the things. So I know
- 2:49Speaker 1: the difficulties of doing a talk show, and people don't
- 2:53Speaker 1: understand five days with the preparation. Can you just tell
- 2:56Speaker 1: people the difficult nature of the preparation that you have
- 3:00Speaker 1: to get into to do affortive two minute show at
- 3:03Speaker 1: least five days a week. I mean, I know people
- 3:07Speaker 1: are gonna say, are you kidding me? But I'll say
- 3:08Speaker 1: it is like preparing for the NBA Finals every day.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It really it is. I mean, it's no joke. You
- 3:15Speaker 1: have got to constantly focus on the moment, focus on
- 3:21Speaker 1: the guests. It's rewarding because I'm so proud of the
- 3:25Speaker 1: conversations that we've been able to have on the show, UM,
- 3:28Speaker 1: from a Frank candidate conversation about women of color and
- 3:33Speaker 1: white women, conversations on being non binary and or what
- 3:37Speaker 1: that means, to having Andrew Gillen and his wife Tamar Braxton,
- 3:41Speaker 1: all of these different people who come on and open
- 3:44Speaker 1: up UM to me, into the show and to the
- 3:46Speaker 1: people watching at home. And I think, to your point,
- 3:50Speaker 1: it is it is the hardest job I've ever had.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I mean, I thought, you know, being at the Today's
- 3:54Speaker 1: Show for you know, three hours, and then running over
- 3:56Speaker 1: and hosting an hour at MSNBC, and then on the
- 3:58Speaker 1: weekend shooting dead like time. I thought that was a
- 4:01Speaker 1: difficult package, this daytime talk show because most important, it
- 4:06Speaker 1: has my name, UM, and that is my stamp, if
- 4:09Speaker 1: you will. That's what people you know, see, it's if
- 4:12Speaker 1: something goes right or wrong, it's the timber Hall Show.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And so that bears a big responsibility bringing my staff
- 4:18Speaker 1: back UM during the pandemic safely and implementing UM safeguards
- 4:24Speaker 1: to keep the show back on air. Those are all
- 4:26Speaker 1: big responsibilities I never could have prepared myself for because
- 4:29Speaker 1: we didn't know we were gonna be at a pandemic.
- 4:31Speaker 1: But yes, just out of basic level, as you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: a daytime daily talk show, it is not the exan
- 4:37Speaker 1: Oprah has said it to me. We had Tire Banks
- 4:40Speaker 1: on the show as well, and they both have commented
- 4:43Speaker 1: on just how hard it is and to be a
- 4:46Speaker 1: new mom. On top of that, it's growing. Well, you know,
- 4:49Speaker 1: let's talk about before we even get more into the
- 4:52Speaker 1: talk show. I try to do a little extra research
- 4:54Speaker 1: and find interesting things. And I went to your Instagram
- 4:57Speaker 1: account and I saw something that said the Purple Leash Project,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and um, you know what exactly is that? Why is
- 5:03Speaker 1: that important you because it's on your Instagram account? Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 1: it is. It's a partnership that I had earlier, uh
- 5:09Speaker 1: this year with Purina. And the concept is we talk
- 5:14Speaker 1: a lot about domestic violence as it relates to family
- 5:17Speaker 1: and children. And I think to your points, since you've
- 5:19Speaker 1: done your research, you know that my sister was a
- 5:21Speaker 1: victim of domestic violence. And one of the parts of
- 5:25Speaker 1: this crisis that is not often discussed are the families
- 5:30Speaker 1: who stay or women who stay in homes with abusers
- 5:33Speaker 1: because they don't want to leave their beloved pet behind
- 5:37Speaker 1: and they stay in this situation. It's difficult to imagine,
- 5:41Speaker 1: but it happens on a scale that you could not
- 5:44Speaker 1: and would not believe. Right now, there are so many
- 5:47Speaker 1: shelters willing to, of course take in women and children,
- 5:50Speaker 1: but they don't have the room or the accommodations for pets.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And we are working to get the number up to
- 5:57Speaker 1: around twenty five by the year twenty five of the
- 6:02Speaker 1: shelters in the country UM, so that they can accommodate
- 6:07Speaker 1: people who are fleeing dangerous home and bring their pets
- 6:10Speaker 1: with them. I toward you know you talked about this
- 6:12Speaker 1: being Texans. I was in Dallas for Worth a couple
- 6:15Speaker 1: of years ago, and I went to a shelter for
- 6:17Speaker 1: families UM and they had an area for the pets.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I couldn't believe that it was packed. Each little you
- 6:24Speaker 1: know cage had a pet a family member in it,
- 6:27Speaker 1: you know, and I say family members because for so
- 6:29Speaker 1: many of us, our pets are family members. So I
- 6:32Speaker 1: partner with Prena to bring attention to that component of
- 6:37Speaker 1: the domestic violence conversation, and it's really important. That's why
- 6:41Speaker 1: I wanted to bring it out, because I tried to
- 6:43Speaker 1: bring up things organically and and also knows this episode
- 6:48Speaker 1: is going to air before November thirty. Then I noticed
- 6:50Speaker 1: a real fun contest about the tam Fam Thanksgiving contests.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Will used to be a short video on your Instagram
- 6:58Speaker 1: account telling Cameron what you're so thankful for, And I
- 7:01Speaker 1: wanted to promote that in my newsletter, saying that's so cute.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So the reason I like your show so much is
- 7:07Speaker 1: that you you you feel organic and you feel relatable,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and that tam Fam Thanksgiving contest seems lying and stuff
- 7:13Speaker 1: right up there. You know, giving people who need money too,
- 7:16Speaker 1: or two and fifty dollars right now doing the pandemic
- 7:18Speaker 1: and no stimulus package is a lot of money right now.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Absolutely it is, and you know, and it's for us,
- 7:25Speaker 1: any opportunity to share the love and to give people
- 7:29Speaker 1: just a little thank you. Obviously, you know you can't
- 7:32Speaker 1: bribe viewers to watch. You still have to put on
- 7:34Speaker 1: the content and bring the conversation and bring them things
- 7:38Speaker 1: that they want to talk about. But for us, any
- 7:41Speaker 1: opportunity to remind people that family matters. We were just
- 7:45Speaker 1: saying the other day, you know you won't be able
- 7:47Speaker 1: to have dinner with those that you love, but that
- 7:51Speaker 1: doesn't mean you still can't enjoy good meal. So we're
- 7:53Speaker 1: even doing a recipe, bringing some of your favorite recipes
- 7:56Speaker 1: and send it to the tamral Sean making with my
- 7:58Speaker 1: mama's banana pudding. I can't be with heart. We know
- 8:04Speaker 1: we'll be together soon, and so for us, it's just
- 8:07Speaker 1: about having fun what we can, you know, embracing the
- 8:10Speaker 1: tough days, but you know, hanging on to the great
- 8:13Speaker 1: joyful days as well. Now when you when you talk
- 8:16Speaker 1: about family, and that's what Thanksgiving really us all about.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And and you see the COVID just flying off the
- 8:21Speaker 1: charts right now. And like I had a big celebration
- 8:24Speaker 1: I was gonna do with my office. I do it
- 8:25Speaker 1: every year. I do a big celebration for my staff,
- 8:28Speaker 1: for people in the business in Atlanta, and uh you,
- 8:31Speaker 1: on Monday, I was gonna do it that Monday of
- 8:33Speaker 1: Thanksgiving them. I told my staff today, I don't think
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it this year because of COVID and ainteen.
- 8:38Speaker 1: How has that I know you show what virtual, but personally,
- 8:41Speaker 1: how did it affect you and how you've been able
- 8:44Speaker 1: to give the message out to your to your to
- 8:46Speaker 1: your viewers or your to your followers on Instagram or
- 8:49Speaker 1: responsibility you feel you playing all that, Tamra, I mean, well, listen,
- 8:53Speaker 1: when our show first halted production mid May because the
- 8:58Speaker 1: city shut down, we started doing the show from my home,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and the entire rest of the season honestly was focused
- 9:07Speaker 1: on the pandemic and the crisis and educating people and
- 9:12Speaker 1: letting people know that while yes we are a daytime
- 9:16Speaker 1: talk show, at my core, I'm a reporter for thirty years.
- 9:19Speaker 1: One of the most life changing interviews that I've done
- 9:23Speaker 1: was with a woman whose husband they were just recently married,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and he went into the barbershop to get a haircut.
- 9:29Speaker 1: He contracted COVID and died, and she played with people
- 9:33Speaker 1: on our show, please a haircut, a nail appointment is
- 9:37Speaker 1: not worth it. And that was just as Atlanta was
- 9:41Speaker 1: about to reopen gradually against the wishes of the mayor,
- 9:46Speaker 1: who was concerned that we didn't know enough about you know,
- 9:50Speaker 1: the spread and that people would be packing into beauty
- 9:53Speaker 1: salons and hair salons um and so here was this
- 9:56Speaker 1: amazing woman in the midst of her pain, sharing that warning,
- 10:01Speaker 1: particularly for African Americans and people of color who were
- 10:05Speaker 1: contracting and dying at a disproportionate rate. So those are
- 10:09Speaker 1: the parts of the show where the responsibility kicks in
- 10:13Speaker 1: and one that we recognize as real. It's really interesting because,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and you're absolutely right, I've been wining the pandemic first hit,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and like everybody, I didn't know what to do, Tamar.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You know, I went, I went out to home depot.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I had had my gloves, I had my parrel, I
- 10:27Speaker 1: have my mask, and and when I went into the
- 10:30Speaker 1: into the home depot, I didn't know if to uh,
- 10:33Speaker 1: do I spray the cart that I'm pushing, or when
- 10:36Speaker 1: I come out, do I take my gloves off. It
- 10:38Speaker 1: really was an uncomfortable moment for me. I just locked in.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I just stayed in my place, and now I go out.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I'm safely going out, you know. But I I'm a
- 10:47Speaker 1: lot more comfortable with this new normal that we live in,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and I feel that that's what's happening with you guys
- 10:52Speaker 1: coming back to work. It's a new normal that we
- 10:54Speaker 1: have to live in and deal with, even though we're
- 10:57Speaker 1: not comfortable. We have to deal with that world. And
- 11:00Speaker 1: and then you're raising the child and that whole environment
- 11:02Speaker 1: is even more scary for you, right, yeah, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but I try to I'm a person of faith. Also,
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm a person who believes in science like you. I'm
- 11:12Speaker 1: you know, but I know that we will get on
- 11:14Speaker 1: the other side of this, and I know that, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 1: we will be able to look back at it and
- 11:20Speaker 1: hopefully become better people, stronger people. With my son's eighteen months,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think about his generation and what we will be
- 11:27Speaker 1: able to share with them, um, regarding how we survived it,
- 11:32Speaker 1: what we learned about ourselves this, you know, I know
- 11:35Speaker 1: the show talks about money and how we have, you
- 11:37Speaker 1: know what's really important? Did you really need the extra shoes?
- 11:41Speaker 1: Do you really need the bigger this? Sort of the
- 11:43Speaker 1: bigger that? Because at the end of the day, this
- 11:45Speaker 1: situation made us strip down to what is important and
- 11:49Speaker 1: I hope our kids can learn from that. Well, let's
- 11:51Speaker 1: get to this Emmy and award. When he showed that
- 11:53Speaker 1: you host a daytime Emmy and when you won, you
- 11:57Speaker 1: know it's a big deal. I got my two and
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'm proud of my too. I got a couple of
- 12:02Speaker 1: UH Image Awards to go along whin it. What was
- 12:05Speaker 1: your feeling when you wanted to aim it for informative
- 12:07Speaker 1: talk show? Oh my god, I never saw it coming.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I never imagined that. I was at home with my
- 12:13Speaker 1: fail when you saw how it feels. It's like, yes,
- 12:16Speaker 1: of course your name is in it, and there's a
- 12:18Speaker 1: part of you want to win, but you prepare yourself
- 12:21Speaker 1: for In my case, it's my first season, there's no way. Um,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you know other shows, you know the view is in it,
- 12:28Speaker 1: and this one's in it, and it's just that is
- 12:30Speaker 1: not gonna happen. So I had accepted just the honor
- 12:33Speaker 1: of being nominated in my first season as my prize.
- 12:37Speaker 1: You know that that was my win, and I had
- 12:41Speaker 1: forgotten that it was even on I was home with
- 12:43Speaker 1: my mother, she was with us, and my husband and
- 12:46Speaker 1: my child, and I was getting ready to go to
- 12:48Speaker 1: bed because it was late at night. It was virtual
- 12:50Speaker 1: and I was like, okay, I'm I can't I'm too
- 12:52Speaker 1: tired to stay up to watch. And I got a
- 12:55Speaker 1: call from my friends and they said, oh, congratulations, I
- 12:59Speaker 1: mean win her, and I'm like, whatever, what are you
- 13:01Speaker 1: talking about? If you want I'm like, we're all screaming
- 13:07Speaker 1: in my house. It was great. You know, it's just
- 13:09Speaker 1: one of those things that happened that you don't expect
- 13:12Speaker 1: and it's such a source of pride. But it also
- 13:15Speaker 1: reminds you to keep working. You know that that's one stop. Now,
- 13:18Speaker 1: Let's let's continue and let's prove that the Emmy you
- 13:24Speaker 1: have is one that you've earned and deserved, and you
- 13:27Speaker 1: just keep going. That's why I compare it to you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: being in the NBA Finals. If it's one game, you're
- 13:32Speaker 1: in and out, but it's a series and you've got
- 13:35Speaker 1: to win the series, and we look at it as
- 13:37Speaker 1: winning the series. Congratulations. He was a note I picked
- 13:40Speaker 1: up and said, Tamarin Hall leaps. In fall, the sophomore
- 13:43Speaker 1: Talker unleashed the largest leap of all syndicated shows, and
- 13:47Speaker 1: the season ending October skyrocketing to a new season high
- 13:52Speaker 1: households and shooting up thirty and the Key Women demo
- 13:58Speaker 1: that you know, I've been in this game, I know
- 14:00Speaker 1: what that means. That that's really you know, you can't
- 14:03Speaker 1: ask for to come into the second season with that
- 14:07Speaker 1: type of reaction, what are you doing and is it
- 14:10Speaker 1: just uh, what the work you put in doing COVID
- 14:13Speaker 1: and not giving up and doing virtual to come back
- 14:15Speaker 1: with those type of number twenty percent leap and thirty
- 14:18Speaker 1: three leap, you know. I think it's a combo of things.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I think, first of all, I learned in the first
- 14:23Speaker 1: season to lean in, as they say to who I
- 14:26Speaker 1: am you know again in TV and people will come
- 14:30Speaker 1: in and they'll say, Oh, that's a great idea, but
- 14:32Speaker 1: let me change you, or that's a great idea, but
- 14:35Speaker 1: let's do this. I learned, especially during the pandemic two,
- 14:40Speaker 1: own the idea and the intention of the show that
- 14:44Speaker 1: I pitched and sold. I'm also lucky that I ended
- 14:47Speaker 1: up with Candy Carter as my executive producer. She was
- 14:50Speaker 1: the COEP at The View and she worked with Oprah
- 14:53Speaker 1: for twenty plus years on the open win for show
- 14:56Speaker 1: when it was in Chicago. And so Candy came who
- 14:59Speaker 1: by the way it was in reduced to me by
- 15:01Speaker 1: Tyler the Perry. She came with such a skill set
- 15:03Speaker 1: of storytelling and she saw the vision and she agreed
- 15:08Speaker 1: with the vision of talking with people. We didn't have to,
- 15:11Speaker 1: you know, rush in a bunch of tricks and a
- 15:15Speaker 1: bunch of things that just didn't resonate or matter. She
- 15:19Speaker 1: and I said, we're gonna lean in and we're gonna
- 15:21Speaker 1: have a conversation. We're gonna give an entire hour to
- 15:25Speaker 1: Andrew Gellum and his wife because people will sit down
- 15:28Speaker 1: and watch it. You know, the notion that the attention
- 15:32Speaker 1: span is so short that you have to just blood
- 15:35Speaker 1: the show with sixteen thousand different topics, and you know,
- 15:38Speaker 1: we decided that we were going to bet on the
- 15:41Speaker 1: idea that people would sit down for the hour and
- 15:45Speaker 1: settle in and watch the show. And we've seen that resonate.
- 15:49Speaker 1: We've seen people come in for the Tamar Braxton interview
- 15:52Speaker 1: that we did exclusively and watch the entire interview, which
- 15:56Speaker 1: was almost forty minutes, because we could have on on
- 16:00Speaker 1: even longer. To be honest with you, how do you
- 16:02Speaker 1: have someone on with such a complicated situation and rushed
- 16:06Speaker 1: them in three questions and out? And I think that
- 16:09Speaker 1: happens far too often. And we decided that that was
- 16:13Speaker 1: not going to be the lane we occupy. We were
- 16:15Speaker 1: going to challenge the idea that people will sit down
- 16:19Speaker 1: and they will have a conversation. It worked out in
- 16:22Speaker 1: the kinds of guests we now get. We had Matthew
- 16:25Speaker 1: McConaughey on for almost an hour of our show talking
- 16:28Speaker 1: about his new memoir and revealing very intimate details about
- 16:32Speaker 1: his life because I think people now know this is
- 16:35Speaker 1: where I can go and I can have a conversation
- 16:39Speaker 1: and also plug whatever I'm working on, but I can
- 16:42Speaker 1: actually come and talk, you know, Gabrielle Union, Dennis Quaid,
- 16:45Speaker 1: Whoopi Goldberg, NFL called Kelly Reeba, Ryan Seacrest, Venus Welleves.
- 16:50Speaker 1: That's a that's when when when I just talking to
- 16:53Speaker 1: my listeners and viewers right now, when I say how
- 16:56Speaker 1: difficult it is to go from a Tracy Bogan, who
- 16:58Speaker 1: was very funny, you know, to a Venus Week which
- 17:01Speaker 1: is one of the all time great tennis players too.
- 17:05Speaker 1: This is what we're talking about when we say the
- 17:06Speaker 1: difficult nature of prepping and being emotionally engaged with your guests.
- 17:11Speaker 1: That's the fascinating That's that's that's the most fascinating part
- 17:14Speaker 1: about being a daytime talk show Home Correct and being
- 17:17Speaker 1: renewed for the third season. I felt that same way
- 17:20Speaker 1: when I was in, you know, in the news business. Um,
- 17:23Speaker 1: which is incredible that you end up. Um, you know
- 17:29Speaker 1: what's what's it's it's you can't make your day up.
- 17:32Speaker 1: You know, as a reporter, I go in, I know
- 17:34Speaker 1: the assignment I'm going to have, but I can't tell
- 17:36Speaker 1: you the twists and turns of that assignment. Where is
- 17:39Speaker 1: it going to go? And with this show, it's the
- 17:41Speaker 1: same way, you know, that's the exhilarating part. I sometimes
- 17:45Speaker 1: I know the question I'm going to ask, but I
- 17:47Speaker 1: have no idea how that person is going to answer
- 17:49Speaker 1: the question. And that just sets the stage for an
- 17:53Speaker 1: exciting day and one that I think I just I
- 17:56Speaker 1: leave exhilarated. I leave knowing more than I knew when
- 17:59Speaker 1: I went in, and sometimes even being inspired many times,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I should say being inspired. Now you interviewed the Vice
- 18:06Speaker 1: President elect Kamala Harris and seeing her her speak before
- 18:14Speaker 1: President elect Joseph Biden, UM moved me out of a
- 18:20Speaker 1: daughter or have six sisters? I know how powerful and
- 18:23Speaker 1: how the black woman or the woman of color can.
- 18:27Speaker 1: We expect a lot from you guys, and sometimes we
- 18:30Speaker 1: don't get a lot in return, especially in the Democratic Party.
- 18:34Speaker 1: How moving was it and just seeing what she's doing
- 18:37Speaker 1: and what she's accomplished. What you're accomplishing, Miss Hall right
- 18:41Speaker 1: now in moving into one what role do you play?
- 18:45Speaker 1: And what role? And what what? What opportunity is a
- 18:48Speaker 1: Kampala Harris offered to women of color or children of
- 18:50Speaker 1: color moving forward? I think so many. I mean, first
- 18:53Speaker 1: of all, two black women and two families. Um, it
- 18:58Speaker 1: is to see this woman the most powerful woman now
- 19:03Speaker 1: in America and a black woman, a woman of color
- 19:07Speaker 1: is huge. This is as monumental, honestly as Barack Obama
- 19:13Speaker 1: is ascension to president because cases like Brianna Taylor and
- 19:18Speaker 1: Sandra Bland have largely made us feel that Black women
- 19:22Speaker 1: are not protected, are not heard, are not always valued.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And I think seeing her guide her steps with great direction,
- 19:33Speaker 1: with great ambition, she's not um. You know, she's a
- 19:38Speaker 1: woman who attended an HBCU, she's you know, a k A.
- 19:42Speaker 1: All these things that she shines a light on now
- 19:46Speaker 1: are incredibly powerful because you know, honestly, the thing that
- 19:52Speaker 1: distinguishes her from Barack Obama most is she has lived
- 19:57Speaker 1: a Black American experience in an urban city of America,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and I think that is powerful. Her relatability is different
- 20:08Speaker 1: than his, both clearly inspiring but very different. She grew
- 20:13Speaker 1: up in Oakland. She went to Howard University, not an
- 20:17Speaker 1: IVY League, you know, traditional IVY League school, but the
- 20:21Speaker 1: Ivy League of Black schools. And that is powerful well.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Also being a sorority. Remember like you said of a
- 20:29Speaker 1: k A, I'm a member of MAKA SACTI fire. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: know you know you go there. That is like a kinship,
- 20:34Speaker 1: a sisterhood of brotherhood. And even know that exists, I
- 20:38Speaker 1: mean you know I again, I was a report of
- 20:41Speaker 1: many years. When people think fraternity and sorority, they think
- 20:44Speaker 1: of a frat house and John Belushi something on a
- 20:47Speaker 1: white campus and they're got beer kegs and that dada,
- 20:50Speaker 1: this stereotype, not knowing this incredible lineage and legacy that
- 20:56Speaker 1: exists within African American HBCUs and servicebriority and fraternity. Now
- 21:02Speaker 1: would you would you being? With the show being renewed
- 21:05Speaker 1: for a third season? Applause, applause, applause, applause, fantastic and
- 21:09Speaker 1: the Amy winner for their first season, moving into a
- 21:12Speaker 1: great start to the second season, What do we expect
- 21:14Speaker 1: the upcoming shows to be? A what is your goal? Now?
- 21:17Speaker 1: You know, like you said earlier, being true to your voice.
- 21:20Speaker 1: You know, you didn't want to be pigeonholed and being
- 21:22Speaker 1: told what to do, because you know, you're learning yourself
- 21:25Speaker 1: and as you get through you get more comfortable about
- 21:27Speaker 1: this is what I want to do. This is my
- 21:29Speaker 1: lane of comfortence. What what is the show for the
- 21:31Speaker 1: second season moving forward? As it continues to grow? You know,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I think it's just getting people. We have this catch
- 21:38Speaker 1: line we're talking to the people you're talking about, and
- 21:41Speaker 1: that's something that we are embracing and we're leaning in
- 21:46Speaker 1: on that. But most important to me and for me
- 21:50Speaker 1: is that folks who are at home launching know what
- 21:54Speaker 1: they're getting. They're getting a real conversation. I hope they're
- 21:56Speaker 1: getting smart questions they're not getting, you know, the idea
- 22:01Speaker 1: that all we want is a steady diet of gossip
- 22:05Speaker 1: and nonsense, you know, just to be honestly with you,
- 22:08Speaker 1: that we are looking for substantive ways to make our
- 22:11Speaker 1: lives better as people, as parents. You know, the human
- 22:15Speaker 1: experience is a common thread. At the end of the day,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I don't want someone keeping me from my dreams. I
- 22:22Speaker 1: don't want someone, you know, standing in my way. I
- 22:25Speaker 1: want inspiration I want to be a better wife, I
- 22:27Speaker 1: want to be a better daughter, I want to be
- 22:29Speaker 1: a better mom, I want to be a better leader.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And so that's a big part of what we talk
- 22:34Speaker 1: about on our show because that's what we all have
- 22:37Speaker 1: in common. We want, I think most of us to
- 22:40Speaker 1: be the best. I'm not an inspirational speaker. I'm not
- 22:43Speaker 1: a motivational speaker like yourself. But I know people who
- 22:46Speaker 1: are like you and get you on the show and
- 22:48Speaker 1: tell us. You know, I don't. I tell people all
- 22:51Speaker 1: this Yallozan fixes lives. I'm still trying to fix my own.
- 22:55Speaker 1: So I'm not there for that. But I am there
- 22:59Speaker 1: with my team of producers to bring in writers and
- 23:03Speaker 1: and and real people and actors who actually want to
- 23:06Speaker 1: come on and have a conversation. Well, she is a
- 23:08Speaker 1: motivating person. She is an instation. I'm talking about you.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I'm talking about you. No, I'm talking about you. You
- 23:16Speaker 1: are motivated, You are an inspiration. My daughter is twenty
- 23:20Speaker 1: three going on twenty four. Uh, and she she she
- 23:23Speaker 1: admires you. She watches your show. That's important because you're reachable.
- 23:27Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying this all you're reachable. That
- 23:29Speaker 1: means you're an age where she can see that's not
- 23:32Speaker 1: far away from me. I can go get that and
- 23:34Speaker 1: that's what you and I love that. I tell the
- 23:37Speaker 1: kids all the time. The ones I've entered said, I
- 23:38Speaker 1: look forward to you replacing me. I've been replaced by
- 23:41Speaker 1: some people that who questionable, but reacing well. Congratulations for
- 23:47Speaker 1: the Emmy on the first season. Congratulations with the great
- 23:50Speaker 1: rating start for the second season. Congratulation on the renewed
- 23:53Speaker 1: pick up for the third season. Of knowing that you
- 23:56Speaker 1: have a future, it only makes you stronger, makes you comfortable.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Let the world know. In the industry, you know they
- 24:00Speaker 1: accept the brand of Tamarin Hall. Good luck with your
- 24:03Speaker 1: show and every day. And I'm gonna push to the
