- 0:00You know, I can't tell you how badly I wish we
- 0:04could start this episode off with a good old
- 0:06sweet, but we can't. Unfortunately. Because London
- 0:11doesn't suck. London sucks, figuratively. But
- 0:16when it comes to hockey, they don't suck. I mean,
- 0:21swept right past the first round, swept right
- 0:23past Erie in that second. I mean, barely, barely
- 0:25snuck by us here there in game four. Yeah, I
- 0:30mean, eight games so far, already eight wins.
- 0:32Game one of round three is already looking like
- 0:34it's going to be a win, unless somebody checked
- 0:35their 4 -0 at the first intermission. I was just
- 0:38checking it again. It's still 4 -0. So, I mean,
- 0:40what's the stat I came up with? They have won.
- 0:44They've only lost two of their last 26 playoff
- 0:48games that they have played. Something like that.
- 0:51It's unbelievable. And those two losses were
- 0:54in the finals against the Peets two seasons ago.
- 0:58No, I'm talking going back when they lost two
- 1:00to Saginaw. I didn't go that far back. Maybe
- 1:03if we went that far back, we could find out even
- 1:04more. Going back to the last playoffs and this
- 1:08playoffs, they have only lost two of their last
- 1:1026 playoff games, which is... Ridiculous. Unbelievable.
- 1:14Austin Elliott in net, he's just a... He's a
- 1:19different animal. Insane this year. We lost one
- 1:24game. Again, we almost snuck one away from them
- 1:27in game four. Like I said, I predicted that we
- 1:29would sneak at least one away. And we were that
- 1:32close, man. That over time, when we gave one
- 1:34up and then they reviewed it, we're like, holy
- 1:36shit, I've never seen this before. And then it
- 1:37got called back. It's like, never seen that before.
- 1:41Then they scored the winner again. And that one
- 1:43got reviewed. I was like, surely it won't get
- 1:45overturned again. And it didn't. But, uh... I
- 1:49mean, just the way that crowd still got into
- 1:51it, you know, down 3 -0 at home, you're about
- 1:53to get swept on home ice, and the way the crowd
- 1:55was still behind that team, still behind, you
- 1:58know, still, I would call, still a cold Charlie
- 2:01Burns. You know, they were behind him that whole
- 2:04game, chanting his name almost after every save.
- 2:06Kid played his ass off in Game 4, dude. And I
- 2:11mean, minus the last minute of the first period
- 2:14in Game 3, played his ass off too. Besides his...
- 2:17That last minute. Other than that, he played
- 2:20pretty good. Both those games at home, he played
- 2:24phenomenal. I know he was in tears at the end
- 2:27of Game 4. They showed him on the Jumbotron.
- 2:29You could just see water. It might have been
- 2:32from his bottle, but you could tell his eyes
- 2:34were red. You could tell he just felt awful.
- 2:38For no reason, too. 46 saves on 50 shots. Against
- 2:43the best team in the CHL. He should be very proud
- 2:49of himself. He should be very. There's no reason
- 2:52whatsoever he should be beating himself up. Which
- 2:54you know he probably is to some extent, but he
- 2:57has nothing to beat himself up for. Came in as
- 3:00a cold backup goaltender in game three, back
- 3:06against the wall. That'd be tough for a starter.
- 3:09Coming back from an injury, kind of like Benny
- 3:11did for us last year. Came in the playoffs cold.
- 3:14He was our starter for the first... five months
- 3:17of the season. But it came in cold, you know,
- 3:20down 2 -0 in the series, on home ice, which,
- 3:22you know, is nerve -wracking enough for any player,
- 3:24any young player with very little, actually no
- 3:27playoff experience. He didn't have any playoff
- 3:29experience. And that's honestly why I'm kind
- 3:32of glad with him coming in. He now has that.
- 3:34He has that playoff experience to where we need
- 3:37it next year. He has that experience under his
- 3:39belt now. Because, like, if we, like, depending
- 3:42with Erland in this upcoming season, like, Like,
- 3:46if he's still around, we at least have both experience.
- 3:52He's going to be around. Regardless, I know we
- 3:55haven't been here. Also, welcome back to the
- 3:58podcast, by the way. We haven't recorded in now
- 3:59almost three weeks. So you're a Friday evening
- 4:02recording here. This will probably still go live
- 4:05the next day. It's Saturday morning at around
- 4:0711 a .m. So look forward to that. Also, obviously,
- 4:09look for this on our YouTube if you just want
- 4:11to listen to it on YouTube and you don't have
- 4:12Spotify. Or Apple Music or Amazon Podcasts, whatever.
- 4:16We'll get back into it. Yeah, no, I mean, Charlie
- 4:19has nothing whatsoever to kick himself for, man.
- 4:22I think the defense, if anything, kind of was
- 4:24the reason for those three goals at the end of
- 4:25the first and game three. Yeah. Just kind of
- 4:29gave up. They thought, oh, we got the end of
- 4:30this period. We shut them out in the first period.
- 4:32No, you didn't because of the boom score. What
- 4:33was it, three goals in a matter of like 36 seconds
- 4:35or something like that? Yeah, like 45 seconds
- 4:36it was. It's not over until the fucking fat lady
- 4:39sings, so. And there was no fat lady singing.
- 4:45I mean, words can't even describe how proud I
- 4:47am of this Otters team and the things we were
- 4:49able to overcome between last year and this year.
- 4:52You know this entire rest of the last six months
- 4:55of this season were for Jim. Every single game
- 4:58that you're playing. And going forward, it's
- 5:00going to be for him. Every game from here on
- 5:03out until we win a cup. And you know damn well
- 5:05they're going to fight to get his name on that
- 5:08cup again. Because I believe he was on the 17
- 5:10one. That was the year he came in, wasn't it?
- 5:13Because he bought the team. 2015. Was it 15?
- 5:16The year after McDavid. That's... Okay. Yeah,
- 5:19because he bought it, like, within a few months
- 5:21after McDavid. Gotcha. Fisher drafted by Edmonton.
- 5:26But, uh... But very proud of this team. This
- 5:29team is unbelievable. This team was, honestly,
- 5:32was just very special. Like, I couldn't... Like,
- 5:37I'm still can't, like, hard to process the seasons
- 5:41are over. For us, at least, yeah. Like, it's...
- 5:44I still, like, can't wait, like, just so devastated
- 5:49that we didn't have more time with this team.
- 5:53Like, I want more time with them. I mean, we're
- 5:56only about probably a month away until the season
- 5:58itself is over and we can watch London lose in
- 6:00the final to Rimouski. And have them bitching
- 6:04and playing, you know, who's team's gonna get
- 6:06to play? They had so many days off. They didn't
- 6:08make the playoffs. Fuck you. Anyway, anyways,
- 6:14I mean, yeah, I mean, I said at the beginning
- 6:16of the playoffs, London, I really think they're
- 6:18going to repeat. I said this halfway through
- 6:20the regular season that they're looking like
- 6:21they're going to repeat. I think now that...
- 6:23Did I think they'd have a clean sweep through
- 6:26eight games? No. I really thought that Erie had
- 6:29the capability to take one away. And unfortunately,
- 6:34we did not. Game one, we let them get to us.
- 6:36They just kind of got into our heads. They beat
- 6:38us up. We dropped the goal as we won too many
- 6:40times. I think it was Game 2, even what Alfie
- 6:43got into in Game 2. Yeah. That's something we've
- 6:46been waiting for. Like, let's let Alfie drop
- 6:48the damn gloves. And he finally did, and I think
- 6:50he did kind of end up getting his ass beat. Yeah,
- 6:53he got it. Every other fight, I think, in that
- 6:56series was pretty fair. I know Wesley beat the
- 7:00shit out of whoever he fought in Game 1. I think
- 7:04it was... Messier also beat the shit out of somebody.
- 7:10He beat the drunk out of somebody. Game one,
- 7:13we just let them get to us. Game two, they were
- 7:15still trying to get into our heads, and they
- 7:17did a little bit, but we kind of backed off a
- 7:19little bit. I think that was the biggest blowout
- 7:21of the series. I think that one was like a 7
- 7:22-2 or whatever. Royston fought Landon Sin. Messier
- 7:33fought Ryder Bolton. I think Messi was the one
- 7:36that was actually a little bit closer. I think
- 7:39they gave the win to Sim over Royce and even
- 7:41though Royce didn't beat the fucking shit out
- 7:43of Sim. And then Jesse Normie faced Nathan Sodder.
- 7:49And then Sod's kind of got his ass. Sod's never
- 7:51been a big fighter. He's great defensively. He's
- 7:55really improved from his first year where he
- 7:57was that 7th, 8th defenseman. He's really improved.
- 8:01He's not a fighter. Yeah, because it was game
- 8:03two is when Allen faced... I'm trying to bring
- 8:11it up. Was it Alfie? It was Jared Woodley that
- 8:14fought Alfie and then Royston fought Allen. Of
- 8:19course, Royston won that one too. Because Royston
- 8:22doesn't lose fights. Again, instead of beating
- 8:24the piss out of him, he beat the drunk out of
- 8:26him. He beat him so fucking good he was sober
- 8:31again. At least he could drive home this time.
- 8:34That wouldn't stop them. That's the last one,
- 8:38I promise. Probably not. Cameron Allen didn't
- 8:41say that. We have one more going on here. Okay.
- 8:47Anyways. Going into next year could be very,
- 8:51very important because right now there is a rumor
- 8:53that the OHL is considering making goalies exempt
- 8:57to the over -ager rule. Which, for us, that could
- 9:00be huge. And keeping both. Obviously keeping
- 9:05Noah. And keeping... At this point, I don't know
- 9:09if I'm... I'm torn between McCall and Saad. I'm
- 9:12between Saad and McCall. I really did not like
- 9:16how McCall played in the playoffs in general.
- 9:19The first round, he was eh, but against London,
- 9:21he did not do well. He did not play well in the
- 9:23second round. Again, I think... The first round,
- 9:26he was come and go. Again, I think the biggest
- 9:29thing... that is in question right now is where
- 9:32is Carey going to end up next season? Is he going
- 9:35to be, like, which body of water is he going
- 9:38to be by? Is he going to be by Carey or is he
- 9:40going to be by the Pacific Ocean? Right. Again,
- 9:43which body of water is he going to? And I swear,
- 9:46I think Carey is going to West Coast. I'm sorry.
- 9:51After that contract signing before the London
- 9:53series, I... I'm wholeheartedly behind, not wholeheartedly,
- 9:58but, like, I'm all behind him going through.
- 10:00And just the way, I mean, there was also kind
- 10:03of what kind of, kind of gave away he might be,
- 10:06was just how he, like, how much they were showing
- 10:10him during the, like, after the moment when team,
- 10:14everyone was at center ice and they're, like,
- 10:16hugging each other and applauding the crowd and
- 10:20that, like, it just felt, just like. And then
- 10:31that was tough, man, just seeing the emotion
- 10:36on everybody's face, not even just the overagers,
- 10:38not even just Charlie. Like, you could tell that
- 10:41that team just felt, they felt defeated. That
- 10:44team just felt drained, they felt beat, they
- 10:47felt defeated. And I mean, they definitely felt,
- 10:50I can guarantee you that team knows. They could
- 10:53have done better. I'll be every fan of them knows
- 10:55that they have the potential to do better. But
- 10:57you can tell the looks on everybody's faces.
- 10:59They were just beat. They were hurt, and they
- 11:02were defeated bad. They got the shit kicked out
- 11:06of them for four games. Did some shit kicking
- 11:09back a little bit there in game four. Did not
- 11:11give up, and that's what I said this team can
- 11:13do. This team does not give up. Down three games
- 11:16to nothing in game four, they did not give up.
- 11:19No. And that's why I'm so proud of them. There's
- 11:23no need whatsoever to be disappointed in this
- 11:27honors team. Two or three years ago, sure. Last
- 11:30year, not so much. I mean, I think we had the
- 11:32potential to get out of the first round last
- 11:34year, but I still wasn't disappointed. And this
- 11:36year even more so. I am absolutely not at all
- 11:39disappointed in this team. No, at all. Because
- 11:40the last three seasons, it's been an improvement,
- 11:44improvement. Honestly, missed the playoffs two
- 11:47seasons ago. Last year, we finally broke that
- 11:50drought. Was in contention. This year, they got
- 11:55their first win. Got their first series win since
- 11:59our cup run in 2017. So that's... See, that right
- 12:04there just showed me it improved. Going back
- 12:07to it, keeping... If the goalie thing ends up
- 12:11being a thing, obviously we get to keep Noah.
- 12:12He doesn't count as one of the three. Then I
- 12:15say, honestly, even if... Say San Diego sends
- 12:19Carey back. I do not hate the idea of trading
- 12:24him away. I hate to say that, but the return
- 12:29that we can get for him would probably be, you
- 12:32know, the level of, oh, if Mississauga sent somebody
- 12:36to Kitchener, or was it vice versa? The one dude
- 12:40that got traded for like 11 picks. Raykoff got
- 12:42sent back for like 11 picks or some shit like
- 12:45that. Yeah, he got sent to Brampton. I don't
- 12:47think he'd be quite that size, but we could definitely
- 12:49easily get a younger, maybe like 17, 18 -year
- 12:52-old forward, five picks maybe. We could get
- 12:55a decent return. We can probably get a bid out
- 12:59of Eddie, too. Eddie, too, honestly, yeah. I
- 13:01mean, he's young. He's got that fighting him.
- 13:03He's got that feistiness to him that we really
- 13:06started to see a lot more this season. Started
- 13:08to see it a little bit towards the end of last
- 13:09year. You know, he had that cordial hat trick
- 13:11that had the whole building fucking shaking.
- 13:14And I think he ended up having, not fights, but
- 13:17a couple scraps in the playoffs against Kitchener
- 13:18last year, too. But this year, he got into a
- 13:20couple of fights. I think one or two fights this
- 13:23year. Definitely, I think he had one in the playoffs,
- 13:25including two. But that's when it comes down
- 13:29to, like, I don't know. I mean, it could be just,
- 13:33you know, playoff, not playoff rust, but the
- 13:36first time in the playoffs, You know, kind of
- 13:38that nervousness from a call. He's never played
- 13:41in these playoffs before. He doesn't really know
- 13:43what to expect. I mean, he knows what to expect
- 13:44from teams like Saginaw and London, who we play
- 13:47five, six times a year. Do we want to waste one
- 13:52of our lead spots on him because of that playoff
- 13:55performance? Do we want to let that playoff performance
- 13:56affect how we feel about him? Because I honestly
- 14:00liked his regular season. Oh, he was phenomenal
- 14:03throughout the regular season. Yeah. He was debatably
- 14:06one of our best defensemen. Obviously before,
- 14:09until Schaefer went down. Which I think he came
- 14:12in after Schaefer. He came after Schaefer. Yeah,
- 14:16and then it's going to be down to obviously between,
- 14:18what, Carey, Dillon, and Mess. Correct? And Davio.
- 14:24And Davio. Well, Dav's, no. Mess is going to
- 14:28be gone after he signed that contract in Toronto
- 14:30with the little atrocity. I don't know how much
- 14:32to believe this, but I said something about that
- 14:34on the Uncensored page, and somebody had said
- 14:36that. Alex has said multiple times that he wants
- 14:38to focus on hockey, that he doesn't care too
- 14:40much about that. He wants to stay and focus on
- 14:42hockey. So it depends. I'm sure the decision,
- 14:46if we decide that we want to keep him, if we
- 14:49say we want to keep him, he might show interest
- 14:51in wanting to stay with us. If we say, hey, we
- 14:53might be moving on from that, then he might go
- 14:55focus on lacrosse. Who knows? But some people
- 14:58said that he has said that he wants to stay here
- 15:00and focus on hockey. Adam McCall has said that
- 15:03he really likes it here and wants to stay here.
- 15:06Who knows? Carey could go to the NCAA. Who knows?
- 15:10I mean, with that NHL contract, I don't know
- 15:13how that's going to work. I think his hands are
- 15:17tied. I think the three players that are really
- 15:19tied are Carey, and it's going to be Schaefer
- 15:26and Malcolm are the three players. I'm kind of...
- 15:29Oh, obviously it would have been Marvin, too,
- 15:31but... Oh, and Ty. I'm sorry. I'm forgetting
- 15:32Ty. Well, then again, Ty didn't really sign the
- 15:34contract yet. He's drafted, but he hasn't signed
- 15:36yet. Yeah, he hasn't signed his entry contract
- 15:38yet. So Ty might be able to go, considering he's
- 15:42not under contract. Yeah. But, yeah, I don't...
- 15:46I wouldn't hate bringing back Miss. I wouldn't
- 15:49hate... I'd like to keep that him and Royston,
- 15:51you know, those greedy, those power forwards,
- 15:54you know, those ones that aren't afraid to beat
- 15:56somebody up when they need to. Um, so I don't
- 15:59think they might be our only two decent fighters
- 16:01on the team. That's really the only thing why
- 16:06I want to keep Masaru just for that reason, but
- 16:10like... It all depends on carry, you know, where
- 16:15they end up keeping him if they call him up.
- 16:17Because that's the thing, like, do we want to
- 16:19risk saving an OA spot on him if they keep him
- 16:24in? Because how does that work? If they call
- 16:25him up and they keep him and they don't send
- 16:26him back? Does he still count as one of our only
- 16:28slots because he's on the roster technically
- 16:30still? How does that work? Because I know when
- 16:34Dylan Strom, he was up in Arizona for a little
- 16:39bit. Can we keep three, but if he comes back,
- 16:43then we have to send one off again. I don't know
- 16:46how that works. I think he would be exempt because
- 16:49we don't have him, physically have him on the
- 16:52team. He's off thing for San Diego. Say we keep
- 16:58Noah. Again, we'll say that the goalie thing
- 17:02does go there. So, say we have. So, why don't
- 17:04we count Noah? Because, say, they're exempt.
- 17:05So, say we have. Say, Eddie. Eddie, Kerry, McCall.
- 17:11Hey, Kerry is not coming back. Okay, so Kerry
- 17:15goes off to San Diego for the first part of the
- 17:17season. Okay, so we'll bring back in. We'll bring
- 17:19back in Eddie. We'll bring back in Sodds. So,
- 17:22say we have. Now we have Sodds, McCall, and Eddie.
- 17:25Hey. San Diego is sending back Carey. Who would
- 17:28we get rid of to bring Carey back in? Or would
- 17:32we just maybe trade Carey away? Or trade Dillon
- 17:36away to Carey? We can technically keep four on
- 17:39the roster, just three active on any given game
- 17:42night. Okay. Because we did that with the year
- 17:45of Kishnick. Because we had Kishnick selling
- 17:47Hoffman and D 'Amato. D 'Amato, yeah. That was
- 17:51the year before I bought my tickets. It was my
- 17:54first year of my season ticket. We had that situation.
- 18:03Second year, but first season. Because your first
- 18:07season got canceled. No. Because that would have
- 18:12been... Because you've been like six seasons
- 18:17now, haven't you? Yeah. This coming year will
- 18:19be officially seven. No, because your first would
- 18:23have been... 18 -19, so you were one off. Yeah.
- 18:26I thought your first was 18 -19. 17 -18. Okay.
- 18:29Won the cup that fall. I bought the tickets.
- 18:33Oh, gotcha. Yeah, okay. Yeah, we had a very tough
- 18:38situation. I guess we'll figure out more. I guess
- 18:40we'll learn more when closer the season comes.
- 18:42We probably won't know much by the time we're
- 18:44wrapping up this season of the show. But, um...
- 18:47Yeah, um... Updating with the OHL playoffs. Obviously,
- 18:53we mentioned earlier that London took us down.
- 18:56Kitchener pulling out the reverse sweep against
- 18:59Windsor. It was 21 -22 season, though. Hoffman's
- 19:02on. Okay, so I would have tackled that. That
- 19:05would have been my third year. Yeah, Kitchener
- 19:09pulling out the reverse sweep against Windsor.
- 19:12Unbelievable. Becomes the sixth team in the 0
- 19:15-2. 16 in OHL history to be able to do that.
- 19:19Honestly, the most fun thing was Kitchener did
- 19:23it in a Windsor offseason. They swept them when
- 19:26they were the eighth seed. They swept the first
- 19:28seed of Windsor in the 22 -23 season. Those playoffs
- 19:31swept them in the first round. First time ever
- 19:35that an eighth seed swept the first seed in OHL
- 19:38history. I mean, unbelievable. Apparently, if
- 19:43it's Windsor and Kitchener, I'm choosing Kitchener
- 19:45from now on. And I remember saying, like, if
- 19:49Parsons is on his A game, like, I think Kichner
- 19:52was going to win it. He might not have been those
- 19:54first three, but he was a brick wall those last
- 19:58four games. I mean, he was not winning any goals.
- 20:03North Bay swept right by. I am looking at the
- 20:07wrong year. What am I doing? Oshawa beat Brantford
- 20:10in six games, 4 -2. The Barry Colts beat the
- 20:16Kingston Frontenots in Game 7. That's crazy.
- 20:22Yeah, man. I mean, so yeah, we got the final
- 20:24four being the Barry Colts and the Oshawa Generals
- 20:26and the London Knights taking on the Kitchener
- 20:28Rangers. Who do we got winning these series?
- 20:33I can honestly see a rematch. I can see a London
- 20:37-Oshawa rematch. Anybody but London. It's gonna
- 20:44happen. All we're doing is just delaying the
- 20:47inevitable of watching them raise that fucking
- 20:49cup again. I think it's gonna happen. Is we gonna
- 20:55see an exact rematch again? Do we think Barry
- 20:58can take Oshawa down? Barry is the higher seed.
- 21:01They're second in the East. Compared to Oshawa
- 21:05being the fourth? Or the third? I know Barry
- 21:11was the first. Oshawa was the Barry was the first,
- 21:14and Oshawa was the second seed. I thought Branford
- 21:18was the first seed. No, no. In the conference,
- 21:20Barry was second, and Oshawa was fourth. Okay,
- 21:23I was right. Second and fourth. Yeah, I mean,
- 21:28Barry could take down. I think Oshawa has what
- 21:31it takes to take down Barry. But who stands a
- 21:35better chance against London is the question.
- 21:38Neither. I mean, we saw Oshawa did a great job
- 21:40in the final last year. I mean, it makes me want
- 21:43to say that Barry might have the better shot.
- 21:46To at least not let them fucking go almost 16
- 21:48-0 in the playoffs again. Kitchener obviously
- 21:51has the best chance of ruining that. I'm sorry,
- 21:54but nobody in the East can touch that. Since
- 21:57Brantford got knocked out, early on I initially
- 22:02said Brantford was probably going to be the ones
- 22:04that could potentially, obviously, Barry. London
- 22:07just doesn't fucking lose at home, dude. They
- 22:09don't lose there. Yeah, Kitchener probably has
- 22:14the best chance to take him down. Are they going
- 22:15to do it? Probably not, sadly. Can I even see
- 22:19Kitchener taking one away? I'd say if we saw
- 22:24in those last few games with the previous round
- 22:27against Windsor, if Jackson Parsons can be on
- 22:30his A game. Jackson Parsons can find his rhythm
- 22:35again, then yeah, I think they have a chance.
- 22:37But all in all, I think this again is going to
- 22:39be a London in. five if we're lucky. I really
- 22:45do want to see the goaltending matchup between
- 22:48Elliott and Parsons. That's going to be fantastic.
- 22:52I mean, not looking so good for Parsons right
- 22:53now, but... I mean, he hasn't had much time off.
- 22:58London's had, what, a week and a half off by
- 23:00now at this point? Yeah. Parsons only had like
- 23:02three days off. So... But yeah, winners, I'm
- 23:06going to go with Barry. I don't think Asha has
- 23:09what it takes this year to take them down. And
- 23:11obviously I have to go London. I'm going to say
- 23:13Barry. I think it's going to take a little longer.
- 23:14I'll say Barry in six. And then I'll say London
- 23:17in, I'll say five. I can very easily see it being
- 23:21another sweep. But I'll say five just to give
- 23:25credit where credit's due to Kitchener. Because
- 23:26they're a good team. They are. It's just London
- 23:28is obviously the better team. And nobody's taking
- 23:31them down. Even if Kitchener loses, I really
- 23:34do hope they beat the brakes off of London. Just
- 23:37wear them out. That's all I want. Make them wear,
- 23:40even if it's, I mean, we kind of, we did wear
- 23:42them out in game four. I mean, towards the end
- 23:47of that game, towards the end of the game, you
- 23:48know, first and second period of game four in
- 23:50Erie was still pretty feisty, but that third
- 23:51period, you could tell London started, like,
- 23:53holy shit, we need to fucking, we need to play.
- 23:56Like, we need to get this, we need to be on our
- 23:58toes against this team. And we ended up tying
- 24:00it with, I think it was like eight minutes left
- 24:01or something like that. Obviously, then the game
- 24:03winner going in about, what, eight, ten minutes
- 24:05into overtime, so. But yeah. It's going to be
- 24:08a London -Berry final. I said London 5, maybe
- 24:14potentially 6 if Parsons can steal one or two
- 24:19of them away. And then Barry, Babel can honestly
- 24:24go 6 or 7. Honestly, looking at this London -Kitchener
- 24:31series, I know that London's going to take the
- 24:34first deal easy. But as soon as they go back
- 24:37to Kitchener, Jackson Parsons is going to find
- 24:39his fucking confidence, and he can carry them
- 24:41the rest of the way. It's going to be a fucking
- 24:43fight. Obviously, because their games are going
- 24:46on right now, London's up 4 -0 about just a little
- 24:49under eight minutes in the second period, and
- 24:53Barry and Oshawa are tied at zero with just a
- 24:58little under 19 minutes into the second period.
- 25:05All right. Moving on to some NHL talk. We're
- 25:12already quite a few games into the playoffs here.
- 25:16The reason we didn't get to recording last weekend,
- 25:17Colin was on vacation, so having a good time
- 25:20in the good old state of AZ. Lazy and azy, baby.
- 25:24Lazy and azy. Getting your first round of nine
- 25:26now? Yeah, I played four of them. Went about
- 25:29as good as the first round of the season will
- 25:31go. Considering I haven't played since last August.
- 25:34I mean, August to April. I know, I'll be rough.
- 25:37I think I got up to the driving range maybe once
- 25:39or twice last year, but I didn't get out for
- 25:40four of them. I didn't even get out last year
- 25:42whatsoever. I know, we'll plan on trying to get
- 25:45a couple in this year for sure. Yeah, I tried
- 25:47reaching out as either I can't or... So I'm like,
- 25:52fuck it, I'm going out. So I went a few times
- 25:55alone, which, whatever. Nothing wrong with that.
- 25:58I've done it before, so. NHL playoffs. Let's
- 26:05go to our brackets. We'll pull our brackets out
- 26:08and see who we have predicted to win, and then
- 26:10we'll go on and move to what's currently actually
- 26:13happening. Let's start in the West. First round
- 26:17matchup, we've got the Winnipeg Jets. The first
- 26:20seed in the entire league, I believe. First seed
- 26:23in the West. Taking on the second wild card.
- 26:26Barely squeaking in. The St. Louis Blues. I have
- 26:30the Jets winning in five. I had a sweep, and
- 26:34that's already... That's already ruined it? Yeah.
- 26:37Yeah, I also had one pick sweeping, but... Whatever.
- 26:43I know the games paid for extra points for tiebreakers
- 26:47or whatever. Either way, I still have Winnipeg
- 26:49winning that series. Staying in the Central,
- 26:52we have the number two seed in the Central, Dallas,
- 26:55taking on the number three seeded, Avalanche.
- 26:58I have the Avalanche winning in seven. I have
- 27:02Dallas winning in seven. I had Dallas in six.
- 27:05Dallas in six? Okay. I knew it was going to go
- 27:10either 6 or 7 this series. I think it was Thursday
- 27:16by 4pm or 6pm. I think it would have been Monday
- 27:21or Tuesday. I think it was before the first puck
- 27:24drop of Game 2. So it would have been like 6
- 27:28or 7pm. I literally went back and forth, back
- 27:30and forth between them. I was like, Dallas, no,
- 27:32I'm going to switch to Colorado. No, I'm going
- 27:33to go back to Dallas. I literally switched this
- 27:35one back and forth about four times. And I fell
- 27:38on Dallas winning this one in seven. I just think
- 27:42they're the better team. I think they have the
- 27:43better goaltender right now. I mean, Jake Odinger
- 27:44is playing out of his mind. I mean, the addition
- 27:47with Mikko Rantanen for Dallas. I mean, they're
- 27:50just an all -around complete team right now.
- 27:53Miro Heichkinen, I think he was supposed to be
- 27:55back this series. If he's not yet, he's supposed
- 27:56to be very soon. And I think that's one thing
- 28:00where Avalanche struggled as defense. I mean,
- 28:02aside from Devontae's and Cal McCarr, they don't
- 28:06got much going on back there. Nope. They got
- 28:09Sammy Gerrard, but he's starting to get a little
- 28:11bit older. But again, that's about all they have.
- 28:15They don't have much to help them back there.
- 28:17I mean, outside of that first line of, you know,
- 28:20McKinnon, Latuscock coming back. They got a decent
- 28:26amount of depth scoring. Logan O 'Connor, they
- 28:30got... Nazem. Nazem Kadri. Kadri's up in Calgary.
- 28:37He's in Calgary. I thought he was still in Colorado.
- 28:41Dallas has a lot of young guys that just got
- 28:43Logan Stankoven at the deadline. He was part
- 28:49of that. He went to Carolina. Yeah, because they
- 28:54got a great team. Both beauties, by the way.
- 29:01Yeah. Both fucking beauties. Yeah, I have Dallas
- 29:04in seven. I think it's going to go the distance.
- 29:07I think Jeffy could be right. I think Dallas
- 29:08could win in six. But I think that one's going
- 29:11to go the distance. I can see that one going
- 29:12seven. Just kind of like what Kyle said when
- 29:15we get to it. I was back and forth on that season,
- 29:18and there was one in the east that I was going
- 29:20back and forth on. But going down to the Pacific,
- 29:25we have the Vegas Golden Knights taking on the
- 29:29Minnesota Wild. This one's also a... I got ready
- 29:35to screw it up, but I had Vegas in a sweep. I
- 29:37did as well. You had Vegas in a sweep. See, I
- 29:40did two different ones. For the one that I did
- 29:42for our league, I had Vegas winning in five.
- 29:44That's already over. But for the one that I actually
- 29:46submitted, like the whole big bracket, like the
- 29:48whole world going against each other, I had Vegas
- 29:52in six. So that one could still happen. Goalie
- 29:54change in Montreal. What happened? I don't know.
- 29:58I just looked up and I saw goalies get changed.
- 30:00Oh, snap. It's a tie. I wonder if there's an
- 30:05injury. It's a tie game. Oh, we have a goalie
- 30:08change in Montreal, folks. That can't be good.
- 30:12Is that Montembeau starting? Montembeau is starting.
- 30:15Who just went in? I don't know if I know who
- 30:18their backup is. Once I hear their name, I feel
- 30:21like I'll know it. Dobbs. What's it? Dobbs. Dobbs,
- 30:27okay. Moving on to L .A. and Edmonton. This one
- 30:35is not looking good. At least, again, for our
- 30:37bracket. I did two different ones. For the one
- 30:40for us, for ours, I had Edmonton in seven. For
- 30:44the one I'm submitting to the big one, I did
- 30:47L .A. in seven. I said I had in my... The global
- 30:53one, I had L .A. winning that one in six. And
- 30:57then obviously in this one, I had Edmonton in
- 31:00six. I mean, Edmonton just isn't anywhere near
- 31:04as good of a team as they have been in the past,
- 31:06especially last year. They're not the same team,
- 31:09at least play style -wise and good -wise, if
- 31:12that makes sense, as the team that went to the
- 31:14finals last year. They're not the same team.
- 31:17Which they really didn't have that many losses
- 31:19or additions, really. They really didn't. If
- 31:24you guys remember last year, they started off
- 31:27like shit against Vancouver. And then they picked
- 31:30it up to be able to finish that series. Same
- 31:33thing round two against, I believe it was Winnipeg.
- 31:35Started like shit. Really ramped it up. Stuart
- 31:38Skinner, when he came back, really ramped his
- 31:40game up. I think it was round three. I think
- 31:41they swept right past round three. Or it might
- 31:43have been round five. But either way, after games
- 31:46three or four when Stuart Skinner came back in
- 31:48front of the team, he started going off. Edmonton
- 31:52started going off. I know where you guys are
- 31:55coming from, but it could also be a repeat of
- 31:57what happened last year. You saw how far they
- 32:00went. Fucking Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals
- 32:02losing just by one goal. And nearly almost came
- 32:06down. Regardless, ultimately I'm going to say
- 32:10LA is going to take this one. It might end up
- 32:12going to 7. LA very easily might sweep. I mean,
- 32:15they're a good team. They're a very good team
- 32:17this year. I think I said this last recording.
- 32:20I really honestly think Darcy Kemper should be
- 32:22in the conversation for the Vesna. I mean, he
- 32:24has been unbelievable this year. I said, Golteng's
- 32:28been really good for him. You got Big Riddick,
- 32:32and then you got Darcy Kemper. Both of them were
- 32:36very good. It's very tough. This one might be
- 32:41the toughest one to call, aside from Dallas and
- 32:44Colorado. Do you think scoring depth is there?
- 32:48Defense is not bad, but not the best, but also
- 32:52the worst. Yeah. Moving on to the Eastern Conference.
- 32:57We got the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the
- 33:00Ottawa Senators. Battle of Ontario. Battle of
- 33:03Ontario. Oh, this one was wrong. I had said Ottawa
- 33:08in five. You said Ottawa in five? I must have
- 33:11pressed five by accident. I meant to press seven.
- 33:14I have Toronto in five. In both brackets, I have
- 33:18Toronto in five. I have Toronto in five. That's
- 33:20starting to look really good. With how well Ottawa
- 33:23played last night at home, I can see them stealing
- 33:26one tomorrow night or Sunday night, whenever
- 33:28they play game four. I can see Ottawa stealing
- 33:31one. I can see it maybe being a little bit of,
- 33:33not a blowout, but not a one -goal game. I can
- 33:36see it beating me at like a 4 -1 or a 5 -3 type
- 33:39game. But I think Toronto's going to go home
- 33:41and win it. Win it at home, I say five. I don't
- 33:46want him to, but. I think it's, I mean, if they
- 33:49lose to fucking Ottawa, that's a little rough.
- 33:53Number one, Steve Dangle's going to lose his
- 33:54fucking mind. Oh, Steve Dangle's going to delete
- 33:56his YouTube channel. He's going to appear off
- 33:58the face of the fucking earth. 18 seasons of
- 34:01LFR, fuck this, I'm done. I was re -watching
- 34:04his playoff, like, bracket, like, what he put
- 34:08out. I'm like. Because he had the Leafs going
- 34:10all the way this year. He does. He hasn't gone
- 34:13all the way this year. And then number two, just
- 34:15to see the fans, it's their fucking shit. Moving
- 34:19on, we got another battle of series with the
- 34:22Battle of Florida with Tampa Bay Lightning taking
- 34:25on the Florida Panthers. The second seed in the
- 34:27Atlantic, Tampa. Third seed in the Atlantic,
- 34:29Florida. I have Tampa Bay in our league. I have
- 34:35them in seven. In ours, I have them in six. The
- 34:37other one I did in seven. So ours, it's going
- 34:40to be a little tough for them to pull it off
- 34:41at the four in a row here. Reverse sweep kind
- 34:45of thing. Are they up 2 -0 or are they up 3 -0
- 34:48already? They're up 3 -0. They're up 3 -0 now?
- 34:50They're up 3 -0. Right? No, 2 -0. Is it only
- 34:53two? Yeah, it's only two. That's right, because
- 34:55they've got a later start than everybody else.
- 34:56They're going home with a 2 -0 series lead, so
- 34:58that's huge. This is where I said this was the
- 35:03one I was going back and forth on, because on
- 35:05my global... Bracket, I had Tampa in seven. This
- 35:09bracket, I had Florida in seven. Global had them
- 35:14in seven. Ours, I had them in six. Florida in
- 35:19six. Florida in six? Florida in six. And it can
- 35:22happen. Even though Florida's been kind of running
- 35:24away with it the last two games, it was still
- 35:27entertaining games the last two. Well, game one
- 35:31was entertaining. Game two wasn't so much. They
- 35:35didn't score that second goal until 30 seconds
- 35:38left on an empty net. To make it 2 -0. So it's
- 35:41like, okay, that was anticlimactic. Moving on
- 35:47to Washington versus Montreal. Washington, the
- 35:51number one seed in the Metro, number one seed
- 35:53in the East. Taking on the second wild card,
- 35:56Montreal Canadiens. In ours, I have Washington
- 36:01sweeping. Or in both. Ours, I have them five,
- 36:05like the global one, I have them sweeping. Yeah,
- 36:08I also have Washington sweeping. In both of my
- 36:12brackets, I have them sweeping Washington. I
- 36:15mean, no offense to Montreal. Oh, oh! They have
- 36:20the bench. Speaking of, we're watching this one
- 36:23right now, end of the second period. There's
- 36:25some feistiness happening. Extracurricular. Two
- 36:31players on one of the benches. Damn, they're
- 36:32mad. Let me get Wilson. No, that's the PLD. PLD's
- 36:37in the middle of it, so. Oh, wow. Oh, he won't
- 36:41stop. Oh, now L are going at it? Yeah, Wilson's
- 36:47on the bench sitting, just yapping his mouth.
- 36:49He's big fucking mouth like he always does. He's
- 36:55just pointing up at the scoreboard like, see
- 36:56ya? You see ya? Get another losing? What a dumbass.
- 37:05Yeah, anyways, Washington 4. I mean, Montreal
- 37:08can explain this. They could end up taking this
- 37:09one. Yeah. Could end up going to 5, but... Honestly,
- 37:12Kolkoff just scored to take the lead. Yeah, with
- 37:17like 40 seconds left to go, period. Yeah. Moving
- 37:21on to the other game that we have on the multi
- 37:23-screen. The Carolina Hurricanes take on the
- 37:25New Jersey Devils. Montreal, or Carolina, the
- 37:28second seed in the Metro. New Jersey's the third
- 37:30seed in the Metro. In ours, I have them sweeping.
- 37:37In global, I have New Jersey taking one away,
- 37:40so Kansas at five. I said, in our bracket, I
- 37:45had Carolina sweeping, but in my global bracket,
- 37:49I had Carolina at five. Tom Wilson. He's like
- 37:55mocking his crying. The things I want to call
- 38:02Tom Wilson, I can't say on the air, so I guess
- 38:06I'll see you. He's a prick, but he's funny. I
- 38:08mean, he's funny as shit. I guess I will see
- 38:10you guys next Tuesday. He's a little prick, but
- 38:14he's funny. And moving on to the second round
- 38:21in the West, that leaves me with Winnipeg taking
- 38:24on Dallas, and I have Dallas winning that one.
- 38:27I have Dallas going to the conference final.
- 38:30For me, obviously, because mine is the same thing
- 38:33as Kyle's, Winnipeg and Dallas. I had actually
- 38:38Winnipeg winning. Oh, yeah, Winnipeg going to
- 38:41the conference final. Okay. What do you got?
- 38:44So I got Winnipeg and Colorado with Winnipeg
- 38:47moving on to the third round. Of course, it was
- 38:52Tom Olsen who started it. And Anderson. No, I
- 38:58just saw it. Oh, my God. He's such a prick. He's
- 39:06so funny. I have Vegas taking on LA in ours.
- 39:14In ours, I have Vegas taking on Edmonton. Doesn't
- 39:18matter. Regardless, I have Vegas moving on in
- 39:20both of them. Both brackets, I have Dallas and
- 39:23Vegas in the conference final. As I mentioned,
- 39:27I had Vegas. In this bracket, I had Vegas. Edmonton,
- 39:35Vegas, and LA, the global one. But in this one,
- 39:41I have Edmonton actually moving on. Being Vegas.
- 39:48I have the same ones, Jeff. Vegas, Edmonton,
- 39:51with Edmonton moving on. Because fuck you, Vegas.
- 39:54So then for the Western Conference Finals, I
- 39:57actually have an all -Canadian matchup between
- 40:00Winnipeg and Edmonton. With Winnipeg moving on.
- 40:06Yeah, Winnipeg going to the final. I think I
- 40:08did have them at first. But looking at how deep
- 40:13the Dallas team is, how much playoff experience
- 40:17they have in the last couple years, I ended up
- 40:20having them. Having them going. So in the conference
- 40:24final, I have Dallas and Vegas. I have the Dallas
- 40:28Stars going to the Stanley Cup final for the
- 40:31first time since 2020. Or no, 2021, sorry. 2020.
- 40:34No, 2020, yeah, I was right. They're in the bubble,
- 40:36right? Yeah, they're in the bubble. Tampa's first
- 40:38of back -to -back. It was Corey Perry's, the
- 40:42start of Corey Perry's three of the first four.
- 40:44With three different teams. Three different teams.
- 40:46His loss is there. Lost two in a row to Tampa
- 40:50Bay, and if he can't join them and beat them,
- 40:52then he joined them, and then he lost again.
- 40:54Yeah, if he can't beat them, join them. So he
- 40:56joined them, and then he got beat. And of course...
- 41:01Who did you guys have going to the final? I had
- 41:04Winnipeg and Edmonton. I actually had Edmonton
- 41:08going. Edmonton going back? Alright, alright.
- 41:14I said that. You said you had Winnipeg going
- 41:16all the way? No, I have... Oh, no, in this bracket
- 41:20I have Edmonton going all the way. I really wanted
- 41:22to put Winnipeg, but in this bracket I put Edmonton.
- 41:26Moving over to the East, second round. Starting
- 41:30up with the Atlantic, I have Ottawa and Florida,
- 41:34with Florida winning it. For me, I had, obviously
- 41:39in my bracket it was Florida and Toronto. I have
- 41:42Florida moving on. Okay. Obviously in my other
- 41:45one it was Tampa, and I had Tampa moving on.
- 41:48And obviously in both of them I have the same
- 41:51winners pretty much. All in the East, I just
- 41:53have different games. So in the East I have Toronto
- 41:55and Tampa Bay. I have Toronto moving on to the
- 41:59conference final for the first time since 1967.
- 42:04No, in history. Oh, yeah, the first time in history.
- 42:06The first time in history moving on to the conference
- 42:09finals. Get off the program, freshman. And then
- 42:17for the second one, I have Washington taking
- 42:20on Carolina, and I have Carolina. Moving on to
- 42:26the conference line. Really? I have Carolina
- 42:27moving on. So I was seeing one, Washington, Carolina,
- 42:34but I had, obviously, Washington moving on. I
- 42:38also have Washington over Carolina that second
- 42:41round because Carolina seems to choke away when
- 42:45it becomes important. Yeah, I mean, that's very
- 42:47true, but I don't know. I think this year seemed
- 42:49different for them. Yeah, I have Carolina. Go
- 42:55to the conference final against Toronto. And
- 42:57then the conference final, the first seed in
- 43:01the Atlantic, Toronto Maple Leafs take it on
- 43:02the second seed in the Metro, Carolina Hurricanes.
- 43:05I have the Carolina Hurricanes moving on to the
- 43:09Stanley Cup final. You had me nervous. I was
- 43:12like, he's going to say fucking Toronto. You're
- 43:15one of them losers. I thought about it, but it'll
- 43:17be the one year that I don't have Toronto with
- 43:20confidence that they're going to end up doing
- 43:21it. But now I have Dallas and Carolina instead
- 43:24of the final. You know, I'm happy that you finally
- 43:27learned that Toronto shouldn't be trusted to
- 43:30go all this way. Right, Otis? Right. I mean,
- 43:35I still have them on. I do think they still have
- 43:39the power and have the ability to do so. Hi,
- 43:42Otis. Yeah, he agrees. Can they do it? No, I
- 43:47don't think so either. He doesn't have a lot
- 43:50of... Hope in the least, huh, Otis? But for me,
- 43:59for the conference final, I have Florida and
- 44:03Washington. I have Washington going to the Stanley
- 44:07Cup finals. When it comes down to the final four,
- 44:09we all have completely different... Yeah, I also
- 44:12have Florida -Washington with Washington going,
- 44:14so for me, the Stanley Cup final, it'll be the
- 44:17Edmonton Oilers versus the Washington Capitals.
- 44:21Oh, that would be a fucking sight. Ovechkin versus
- 44:26McDavid. One of the old gen versus one of the
- 44:29new gen. I really wish it was Crosby if they
- 44:33could get it all the way. 87 versus 97. But if
- 44:37ifs and buts for candies and nuts, the world
- 44:38would be a much better place. This place fucking
- 44:40sucks. In the Stanley Cup Final, I have the Dallas
- 44:47Stars, the second seed in Central, taking on
- 44:50The Carolina Hurricanes, the second seed in the
- 44:52Metro. Your Stanley Cup champion, 2025. I got
- 44:58the Carolina Hurricanes winning the whole thing.
- 45:03Just watch, they're going to get blown out in
- 45:05the first round and fuck you over. Probably,
- 45:07yeah. They're going to go up 3 -0 and they're
- 45:09going to get reverse swept by New Jersey. Fuck
- 45:11up my whole bracket. So, for me outside the Edmonton
- 45:16Oilers and the Washington Capitals. Your 2025
- 45:19Stanley Cup champions is the Washington Capitals.
- 45:23I think we have the same fucking Final Four,
- 45:25by the way. Oh, do you have the same four? Yeah.
- 45:28Well, my tiebreaker is 34 goals. I have 19. All
- 45:34right. I said 29 for mine. All right. See, my
- 45:39Final Four being Dallas, Vegas, Toronto, Carolina.
- 45:45It's going to be interesting. Obviously, I didn't
- 45:49mention my other brackets finals. I had Winnipeg
- 45:55and Washington in the finals, and I had Winnipeg
- 46:00winning that one. Actually, no, I still had Washington
- 46:04winning that one as well. So we'll move on to
- 46:10what is currently going on right now, how well
- 46:14those are looking right now. Right now, Toronto
- 46:17is up 3 -0 on the Ottawa Senators, which that's
- 46:20looking decent for me because I had them winning
- 46:22at 5. Florida is up 2 -0 on Tampa Bay. Not looking
- 46:27good for me because I had them in 7 -1 and then
- 46:316 -0 in the other. I can't remember if it was
- 46:33global and which one I had for which. Washington
- 46:36currently up 2 -0 on Montreal, but losing 3 -2
- 46:39in Game 3 right now, end of the second period.
- 46:43Carolina currently up 2 -0 on the New Jersey
- 46:46Devils. Also looking good for me. The only one
- 46:48not looking good for me in the East right now
- 46:50is the Florida Tampa series. Um, I have a chance
- 46:54to be perfect on the entirety of the East. You
- 46:57know, it could come back. Um, don't you dare
- 47:01pull that class over. Come here. Come here. Winnipeg
- 47:06currently up two games to one on St. Louis after
- 47:10a very blowout victory from St. Louis last night,
- 47:13which was not expecting that. Where was I? Jordan
- 47:16Bennett can play the hell out of the game. The
- 47:18Dallas Stars up two games to one on the Colorado
- 47:21Avalanche. Still looking good for me. That one
- 47:24can go to seven. That one needs to go the distance.
- 47:27Another one not looking good for me is Minnesota
- 47:30being up two games to one on Vegas, which I don't
- 47:33know if anybody saw that one coming. I had a
- 47:36feeling Minnesota would be a threat, but I didn't
- 47:38think it would be this much of a threat. Neither
- 47:40did I. That's why I was like... I really did
- 47:42not think that they could put through this much.
- 47:46And then L .A. up 2 -0 over Edmonton. Did not
- 47:51see that one coming. I mean, they got the two
- 47:53wins at home, and now the series is going to
- 47:56Edmonton. Everything could change. I say if L
- 47:59.A. wins this Game 3, then my bracket will be
- 48:06in trouble. If L .A. wins tonight, then Edmonton's
- 48:12in some trouble. But if Edmonton can turn the
- 48:15tides, You know, turn everything around tonight,
- 48:17get the win on home ice, and we might have a
- 48:20series. But if LA wins, they're going to be in
- 48:23trouble. Yeah, so far the only brackets of mine
- 48:29are looking good, are still potentially going
- 48:32to happen, is Dallas, Colorado, LA and Edmonton.
- 48:42Carolina, New Jersey, Washington, Montreal. And
- 48:47pretty much all of them are still pretty good
- 48:50except for the Winnipeg and Vegas one. The ones
- 48:56I'm worried about is the Minnesota one. Minnesota
- 49:01is over Vegas right now, then Florida currently
- 49:03over Tampa Bay. Those are the two that I am worried
- 49:06about. I'm more worried about winning the global
- 49:11one than ours, which we didn't have. I don't
- 49:13think we had a good punishment yet. No. If we
- 49:15agreed, if we decided we were going to do one
- 49:17or not for the awards. But if there's only three
- 49:19of us, then I don't know. We're just bragging
- 49:22rights more. Well, it's just bragging rights,
- 49:24yeah. But I'm sure we can think of something.
- 49:31We do what we were just screwing around with
- 49:33before the show. Stand down in the field, you
- 49:35just give golf balls, watch that shit, and you're
- 49:37not allowed to move? Shirtless? Fuck it. We just
- 49:46have to go somewhere where we're not going to
- 49:47hit other houses, obviously. We'll think of something.
- 49:52I might have the place for that. It could be
- 49:55fun. Hopefully. It looks like Lex is drinking.
- 50:02It's going to be a little bit of a shorter episode
- 50:04this week. I have a couple of just random trivia
- 50:06questions that I had thought of over the last
- 50:08couple weeks. Maybe now would be a good time
- 50:10to ask these guys. Two of them are playoff related
- 50:12here. I didn't look at my other three, but it's
- 50:15playoff time, so mine as well. Why not? All right.
- 50:17In 2020, in the playoff bubble, Tampa Bay took
- 50:19on Columbus in the qualifiers round. Game one
- 50:22ended up going to that historic five overtimes.
- 50:25Who scored the game -winning goal in that game?
- 50:34No. It's between two. Yeah, I'm going to stick
- 50:46with Sorelli. I'm going to stick with Sorelli
- 50:50because I feel like it's the other one. Who's
- 50:52your other one? Brayden Point. It was Brayden
- 50:55Point. I knew it was either Sorelli or Point.
- 50:59Brayden Point. I knew it was vice versa. I think
- 51:02we told this story about it again. We had time,
- 51:04so we'll tell it again. It's me, Jeff, Colin.
- 51:07Was Boba there? Or another mutual friend? Sam.
- 51:10It was just my friends. It was Sam. Was that
- 51:12the night Jeffy fell into the pond? No. No. That
- 51:15was a different time. That was a different time.
- 51:17I think the game had just went into overtime
- 51:20as we were getting up to the first hole. The
- 51:22game just started. The game itself just started
- 51:25as we were getting up to the first hole. We get
- 51:28to the first hole. You know, couple hole, you
- 51:30know, starting in the third hole. Hey, guys,
- 51:32you know, end of the first period or whatever.
- 51:34Get to the end of the fourth, end of the fifth
- 51:36hole, whatever. Oh, end of the second period.
- 51:38Okay, whatever, you know, get to the end of the
- 51:40fifth hole. Oh, end of the third period. Okay,
- 51:43I think we started slowing down. I think maybe
- 51:45we were behind somebody or whatever. End of the
- 51:47seventh hole. Oh, end of the first overtime.
- 51:49We get to the end of the eighth hole. Oh, end
- 51:51of the second overtime. Getting ready to start
- 51:54the ninth hole. Getting to the end of the ninth
- 51:56hole. End of the third overtime. I was telling
- 51:59him to get everything put back and get back to
- 52:01the car. We're getting close. I think we went
- 52:02to eat after. As we're pulling up to the restaurant,
- 52:05oh, end of the fourth overtime. No, we had left
- 52:08in the middle of the ride, end of the fourth
- 52:11overtime, start of the fifth overtime, whatever.
- 52:13As soon as we pull into the restaurant and we
- 52:15sit down. Yeah, we asked them to turn on the
- 52:17Tampa Bay Columbus game, the hockey game, whatever.
- 52:20Before they could even find the remote to turn
- 52:23it on, it was a brain -pointed score and it was
- 52:25over. Five overtimes. That's still insane. We
- 52:28played an entire round of golf before they could
- 52:30finish a game of hockey. Which I think there's
- 52:33supposed to be another game that night. That
- 52:34game ended up getting postponed because it was
- 52:35too late at that point. Alright, other one. Who
- 52:39was the first non -original six team to win a
- 52:42Stanley Cup? St. Louis in 1967. Or 68, sorry.
- 52:49St. Philly. Philadelphia. The first non -original
- 52:55six team. Yeah, which... They went back and back
- 52:59in 74 or 75. Yeah, 74 or 75. I'm 95 % sure. I
- 53:08know it's Philly because I just literally saw
- 53:11the NHL post something like who's going to be
- 53:15the 2025 and it went through all the years. Oh,
- 53:26that's right, because St. Louis went up in their
- 53:29inaugural season and lost to Montreal. Lost to
- 53:32Montreal. That's not a bad idea. Three years
- 53:34in a row. Three years in a row. They lost to
- 53:35Montreal, Montreal, and then lost to Boston.
- 53:38Philly went back -to -back in 1974 and 1975.
- 53:42Hadn't won it since. Hadn't won it since. All
- 53:46right, that's where I was getting my St. Louis.
- 53:50And then here's our three not... None of these
- 53:53are... These are just... Completely fucking random.
- 53:56Good luck if you know these. Off the top of your
- 53:58head. What was the final score of the well -known
- 54:01best game in American sports history, the Miracle
- 54:03Ones? 5 -4 regulation. It was 4 -3 regulation.
- 54:194 -3 regulation, yeah. What was the total amount
- 54:25of points Wayne Gretzky scored in his highest
- 54:28point total season? In one single season. In
- 54:32one single season, what was his record for most
- 54:33points in one season? Mid -130s. I'd say 110,
- 54:50like somewhere around 100. 10. Most points in
- 54:55one season, guys. You're way off. Way under?
- 54:59Way under. You're way off. So he has to be like
- 55:01170s, 180s then. Still way under? Way under.
- 55:06There's no way he did more than 220. Very close.
- 55:11225. His most in one season point total, 215
- 55:16points in one season is his record. If it would
- 55:21have been 130, McDavid would have broken. That
- 55:23would have been a whole different thing we would
- 55:25have been watching. Multiple people. I think
- 55:26two people got 150 last year, didn't they? I
- 55:29think Cooch and McKinnon both got 150 last year.
- 55:33Oh, wow. They were up there. This one is, I don't
- 55:37know what made me think of this one, but this
- 55:38one is out there. Who scored the first Penguins
- 55:42goal at the Consult Energy Center slash PPG Pains?
- 55:45The first Penguin to score a goal in the new
- 55:48arena. Wasn't it Pascal? It was not Pascal. I'm
- 56:05trying to think if he was actually there at the
- 56:08time. Was it Kunis? It was not Chris Kunis. You
- 56:17guys, obviously, same team, obviously, but that
- 56:19same era of Penguins, he was on this team. He
- 56:24was part of this team for a couple years. Not
- 56:27Stolze. Not Stelzi. Not TK. Tyler Kennedy. It
- 56:33was Tyler Kennedy. It was Tyler Kennedy. Tyler
- 56:34Kennedy. Oh, okay. It was the first Penguin to
- 56:37score. I think we got scored on first, but he
- 56:40was the first Penguin to score a goal in the
- 56:42Consular Energy Center. Okay, because my next
- 56:45cup was going to be Ryan Malone. No, Murdo left
- 56:48way before. He left before we got our first cup.
- 56:51Oh, that's right. Our 0 -9 cup. He left the 0
- 56:54-7 -0 -8 season. Yeah, he left the year we lost
- 56:56to Detroit. And it was early. He left and I just
- 57:00didn't remember. I think he might have been done
- 57:02in the league by then. I think he only went to
- 57:03Tampa Bay for another two, three years after
- 57:05he left us. And maybe went elsewhere for one
- 57:08more, but... I think that's about all I had to
- 57:21go over. So he played with the Penguins up until
- 57:2707 -08. He played with the Penguins from 03 -04
- 57:31to 07 -08. Then he was with the Lightning from
- 57:3608 -09 to 13 -14. Oh, he did play that long.
- 57:41Okay. And then he was with the Rangers 14 -15.
- 57:43Paid six games, zero points, was a minus four.
- 57:48And ended up calling quits after that. Okay.
- 57:53Oh, wow. Yeah. He did not play a full 82 -game
- 57:58season. He came close once in 0 -3, 0 -4, playing
- 58:0181 games. Otherwise, his next close was 77. His
- 58:06next two were 77s. Two 77s, a 70, and a 69. Just
- 58:17scrolling through to see what else we might want
- 58:21to talk about. A couple of coach frames. We have
- 58:23Lula Morello from... Well, New's taking a step
- 58:28back. Taking a step back from being GM. Not Peter
- 58:33Lafayette, right? Yeah, Peter Lafayette from
- 58:35the Rangers has gotten fired. John Tortorello.
- 58:38John Tortorello, we knew that earlier, close
- 58:40to the end of the season. Dan Balsma, head coach
- 58:41of the Kraken, got fired after just two years.
- 58:43One year. One year. Which I do not think that's
- 58:47a whole lot of time to do anything. I don't think
- 58:49that will happen. Especially if that roster is
- 58:52not very good. That one, I think, was kind of
- 58:56a mistake on Seattle's part. PWHL introduced
- 59:00Vancouver as going to be an expansion team. That'd
- 59:03be pretty cool. I think they're slowly going
- 59:08to keep expanding each, like, every year or every
- 59:12other year. The women's league. That Wilson thing,
- 59:18we almost have to put that as a new barf ball
- 59:21picture for the group. That's hilarious. But
- 59:24I don't know if I want to look at his ugly ass
- 59:25face every day. Going back to the Otters, the
- 59:31Otters announced that Sean Bednard is taking
- 59:33a step away from the team, will no longer be
- 59:35the voice for the main play -by -play announcer
- 59:38of the Erie Otters, and assistant Trevor Cabella
- 59:41will be taking over the play -by -play, which
- 59:44is awesome for Trevor. Really sad to see Sean
- 59:46go. I really did enjoy Sean. But he's getting
- 59:49a much better opportunity for his career. And
- 59:53he's just moving to over to Hammett to be a development
- 59:58director over there. Right down the street? Yep.
- 1:00:01And he said, he pretty much said, he's like,
- 1:00:04now, he's like, he's like, I'm excited now to
- 1:00:07actually be an Otters fan. Yeah, be on this side
- 1:00:12of the Otters. If the people bitching, going,
- 1:00:14oh, he's so biased. Or he should, he's not biased
- 1:00:18enough that he's... Have you ever... Why are
- 1:00:21announcers supposed to be biased towards their
- 1:00:24team? You ever heard of somebody named Doc Emmerich?
- 1:00:29The way they sell Mark City for a London goal
- 1:00:32than he does for Erie. Because he's an announcer.
- 1:00:35He's not an Erie fan. He is an announcer. He's
- 1:00:38a professional announcer. No matter who is playing,
- 1:00:41Doc Emmerich. Going absolutely ballistic, giving
- 1:00:44himself a stroke with every goal he announced.
- 1:00:46I mean, he's had some incredible calls. Some
- 1:00:49of the greatest calls we've ever seen. He's definitely
- 1:00:52top three hockey that's up there with RJ. I mean,
- 1:00:55he's top three. I might say Doc at one and then
- 1:00:58RJ at two for the best announcers ever. Well,
- 1:01:01they weren't truly announcers, whereas, you know,
- 1:01:04RJ was like Bednar. He was the voice for the...
- 1:01:07For who? I said true. I thought you said from
- 1:01:12Jersey. I'm like, I was going to come over there
- 1:01:15and fucking slap you, man. But no, for, yeah,
- 1:01:20I mean, well, more play, I know play, play, play,
- 1:01:23but obviously RJ was specifically Buffalo, whereas
- 1:01:27Doc was everyone. Okay, I mean, Doc is the best
- 1:01:31announcer, and RJ is probably the best for a
- 1:01:35specific team. I mean, he's up there. You've
- 1:01:37got to throw Mike Lang up there, too. Yeah. Otis,
- 1:01:57I have enough hair on my laptop bag. Specifically
- 1:02:01from you, though, fuck. I love you, but gosh.
- 1:02:06I think there's two calls I always love by Sean
- 1:02:10Bettnard's, obviously, Brett Brissett's game
- 1:02:14winner in the penalty shot in the 21 -22 season.
- 1:02:20Tell the fat lady to put that mic away. That
- 1:02:25was one of my favorites, and obviously the overtime
- 1:02:28Marty goal in the last year. And the season finale
- 1:02:32last year. And the season finale last year against
- 1:02:36Keshia. I think those are probably easily probably
- 1:02:40one of my two favorites by Betnar. But I'm happy
- 1:02:45for Trevor. It's his time now. kind of be now
- 1:02:53the voice for the Otters. I definitely think
- 1:02:55he can do it. I think so too. I know people complain
- 1:02:58about Trevor too, but he's younger than we are.
- 1:02:59He's like 22 years old. He just graduated college
- 1:03:02last year. He's 23, by the way. He just graduated
- 1:03:06college, I think, last summer. The summer before
- 1:03:08this season. Kids young. Give him a chance. I'm
- 1:03:14excited to see what he can do. Are they going
- 1:03:16to bring on somebody to be alongside Trevor?
- 1:03:18I think we'll find out. Maybe it could be Tim
- 1:03:20McGuinn. I don't know. We'll see. There's something
- 1:03:26to look forward to next year. Yeah. We shall
- 1:03:30see. Trying to find here. Trying to find what?
- 1:03:41I watched and tied it. I missed that one. Oh.
- 1:03:49Three to three. Three minutes into the second,
- 1:03:51or third, sorry. Here it is. Getting to be in
- 1:04:10the arena for that one, man. Oh, my God. The
- 1:04:13one story that I remember. The thing I almost
- 1:04:15didn't make that game. I almost didn't make that
- 1:04:17game. I think the one story that I remember hearing
- 1:04:23from the old 2 -9er when he was in the booth
- 1:04:26with Meng, I don't remember what game he was
- 1:04:30calling, but, you know, I think it was in the
- 1:04:330 -9 cup run. What? I don't know. Either way,
- 1:04:37you know. The way he called a goal, he was leaning
- 1:04:41back so far in his chair, his headset came off,
- 1:04:44and he thought he was going to fall right over.
- 1:04:46And he scores! Or whatever he said at the time.
- 1:04:51I don't remember, but... I know a couple of times
- 1:04:53I think I've seen that. Yeah. Alright, now we'll...
- 1:05:00A little bit shorter, but that's going to wrap
- 1:05:02up this episode of the Bug Poster Podcast. We
- 1:05:05will be back in the studio next weekend, so we'll
- 1:05:07get back to... Two episodes within the span of,
- 1:05:09what, eight, nine days? So make up for the nearly
- 1:05:13three -week absence. Because I'm sure we'll probably
- 1:05:15have a couple series ending here this week to
- 1:05:18talk about next week. If you guys haven't already
- 1:05:22done so, follow the podcast. Subscribe to YouTube.
- 1:05:25Follow us on Twitter. Follow us on TikTok. What
- 1:05:28are you doing, man? It's been five, six years
- 1:05:31at this point now. Come on! Do it! Just you do
- 1:05:35it. You had a little bit of Johnny come out there,
- 1:05:37by the way. I had a little bit of you. Boy, it's
- 1:05:40got a little too high there. God damn it. Jonathan!
- 1:05:45There's Johnny. Maybe the first time I've done
- 1:05:47that on the show. I don't think I've ever done
- 1:05:49it. I might have accidentally, like, a word like
- 1:05:52that before, but never, like, intentional. Maybe
- 1:05:56a little behind the scenes. Like, I suck hard,
- 1:05:59you know, fuck the flyers or something like that.
- 1:06:01But, uh... Yeah, Odie, you want to say goodbye?
- 1:06:04No? Okay. No. No? What the fuck are you doing?
- 1:06:09It's so annoying. We're just inconveniencing
- 1:06:11him. Oh, I'm sorry. Are we taking up your space
- 1:06:15in your house? He's like, damn straight, this
- 1:06:18is my kingdom. And this is your room specifically?
- 1:06:22He's like, now you get it. He's like, duh. I
- 1:06:29brought you into this house and I can easily
- 1:06:30kick you out. If you haven't done so already,
- 1:06:35go check out that vlog that we posted on our
- 1:06:37YouTube a couple weeks ago when we went to the
- 1:06:38Sabres -Penguins game in Buffalo again. Saw Sidney
- 1:06:42Crosby break his own Wayne Gretzky record. But
- 1:06:47yeah, thank you guys for listening for five seasons
- 1:06:50now. Getting ready to wrap up season five. That's
- 1:06:52absolutely true. Goodbye. See ya!
