- 3:34Speaker 1: which premieres on December fourth on Lifetime. The Lifetime movie
- 3:38Speaker 1: stars Dmitria McKinney. You've heard on my show many times,
- 3:42Speaker 1: Regina Bell, and my boy I met him when he
- 3:44Speaker 1: was a teenager. Chas Lamar Shephard. Please work with the
- 3:48Speaker 1: money main conversation. I got a lot to say because
- 3:50Speaker 1: he's doing a lot. Kurt Franklin, Kurt, Kurt, Kurt Brother,
- 4:00Speaker 1: Kurt Man, I'm gonna say your name like that, man,
- 4:03Speaker 1: because you know when you go to the mountaintop and
- 4:05Speaker 1: you want to hear people here good news. You just repeated,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you repeated, repeated, Kurt Franklin Man, just transition, Brother, Let's
- 4:14Speaker 1: let's let's just talk with the fall in love. It
- 4:16Speaker 1: was released November five, with Mariah you Khalid and one
- 4:23Speaker 1: point five million views so far. In climbing. Talk about
- 4:29Speaker 1: putting that together, talk about the importance of that particular
- 4:32Speaker 1: you know, because Maria has the all time Christmas song record,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and now you're doing a Christmas song with us, so
- 4:38Speaker 1: you you're working with a Christmas legend. Talk about that, Kurt, Yeah, yeah, man,
- 4:43Speaker 1: I was, first of all, it's great seeing you. It's
- 4:46Speaker 1: great seeing my brother who's been so supported my tip career,
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's been there from day one. Thank you. And I'm
- 4:52Speaker 1: just very honored to be able to be a part
- 4:54Speaker 1: of your continuing, uh just career and legacy. And so
- 4:59Speaker 1: it's always beautiful to connect with a brother who you've
- 5:02Speaker 1: looked up to for so long. Um. Yeah, the Mariah
- 5:05Speaker 1: Carey project came. Um she invited me to write along
- 5:10Speaker 1: with her and her writing partner, and so I went
- 5:17Speaker 1: to her home and she showed me where they were
- 5:19Speaker 1: with the song and it felt good, and they just
- 5:22Speaker 1: kind of wanted to have some different moments in the song,
- 5:25Speaker 1: and so I said that at the piano kind of
- 5:27Speaker 1: just through some ideas of where we could go with
- 5:30Speaker 1: the song, how we could, you know, maybe even do
- 5:32Speaker 1: some different things in the bridge. And then I had
- 5:34Speaker 1: a whole idea for a vamp kind of like a
- 5:36Speaker 1: tape kind of I could take him to church vamp,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know, And so um, I sat down and kind
- 5:42Speaker 1: of through some ideas and so we co wrote the
- 5:45Speaker 1: record together and and I and I brought it back
- 5:49Speaker 1: to Dallas, and I put my band on it, put
- 5:51Speaker 1: my singers on it, kind of did my thing, and uh,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I mean, she really loved it. And it's really humbling
- 5:57Speaker 1: for her to be able to really connect with it
- 5:58Speaker 1: like that. And um yeah, and and then UH colead
- 6:04Speaker 1: jumped on it and they were super dope. He is
- 6:06Speaker 1: a great young talent and so and so yeah, it's
- 6:10Speaker 1: a great opportunity to just to continue to try to
- 6:13Speaker 1: have the conversation about you know, man, how gospel music
- 6:17Speaker 1: and the community did not come from uh and just
- 6:20Speaker 1: just the gravity and just the breath of the people
- 6:23Speaker 1: in it, and and and how viable gospel music style
- 6:28Speaker 1: and the message in just the community is when it
- 6:31Speaker 1: comes to any area of music, it could be pop music,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it could be hip public can be country music. Wherever
- 6:37Speaker 1: it is, this music can live there because you're talking
- 6:40Speaker 1: about a part of Americano and so you know, to
- 6:43Speaker 1: not only is it the good news of Jesus christis
- 6:45Speaker 1: also music that is the foundation of American music, is
- 6:49Speaker 1: the foundation of black experience here and uh and Western
- 6:54Speaker 1: civilization and so Because of that, you can always see
- 6:59Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's influence, and you can always see
- 7:03Speaker 1: uh it's impact even now. I mean, every pop artists,
- 7:07Speaker 1: every hip hop artists, their band are a bunch of
- 7:10Speaker 1: church musicians. I mean, I was at A Snoop's mother's
- 7:14Speaker 1: funeral this past week. Snoop asked me to do it
- 7:16Speaker 1: to music for his mother's funeral, and the whole and
- 7:19Speaker 1: his whole band there's church guys. That's why I be
- 7:21Speaker 1: able to just and I didn't have one rehearsal. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: didn't have one rehearsal. I just jumped on the piano
- 7:27Speaker 1: with the singers and we were able to go from
- 7:29Speaker 1: some about the name Jesus to to to my life
- 7:33Speaker 1: is in your hands, because I mean, you know, we
- 7:36Speaker 1: all speak that same language. And so it was really
- 7:39Speaker 1: exciting to bring that essence UH music and to the
- 7:44Speaker 1: Mariah Harry song. And it's very humbling to bring that
- 7:49Speaker 1: that essence of culture music to even now scripted programming
- 7:54Speaker 1: and to visual to visual platforms like UH, Kirk Franklin's
- 7:59Speaker 1: and gospel. Chris hold on k, you got too much.
- 8:02Speaker 1: You're gonna slide through these different things. I gotta stop
- 8:05Speaker 1: on great moments. Now you're out there with you something
- 8:09Speaker 1: I had, I had Mariah carry come on down the
- 8:11Speaker 1: Dallas and mix it up with the band, and I
- 8:14Speaker 1: was a Snoop Dogg and played with the band and
- 8:16Speaker 1: then you know something about the name of Jesus who
- 8:18Speaker 1: he knows. That's my all time favorite Kirk Tank song
- 8:21Speaker 1: right there, He's just gonna slide past that. You know,
- 8:24Speaker 1: the unfortunately delivered as a sad moment for Snoop Dogg.
- 8:27Speaker 1: But that's an inspirational song. And let you know, there is, uh,
- 8:30Speaker 1: there is, there's guidance for us in our sad moments,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and that type of music that you produced over the
- 8:36Speaker 1: years creates that. But I'm looking at this video, man.
- 8:38Speaker 1: First of all, I'm kind of mad because Maria Carry
- 8:41Speaker 1: don't age. She don't age. Man, I'm looking at Okay, really, Maria,
- 8:47Speaker 1: really you're gonna do it like this? And then then
- 8:50Speaker 1: but then I'm enjoying. I'm enjoying the video, right, Kurt.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden, and then all a sudden, Kirk,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you you kirtified it. You know what I'm saying. You
- 8:58Speaker 1: know you're doing, Man, come on there with that kurrect tone.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I love it man, after a little hey man, because
- 9:07Speaker 1: you have a style, man, you have a presence, man,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you have a and that that that brand. Let's talk
- 9:12Speaker 1: about that Kurt Franklin brand, because, like I said, it's
- 9:15Speaker 1: really when I set up and think about we have
- 9:17Speaker 1: been on this journey together. Man. You know, you know
- 9:21Speaker 1: BT celebrations of gospel. Man, we both Texas boys, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: all journey. Different TV shows that you did or when
- 9:29Speaker 1: I was doing Sister Sister, all these different things, movie ideas.
- 9:32Speaker 1: We kicked back and forth. But what is the Kurt
- 9:34Speaker 1: Franklin brand Man that you that you built, man, because
- 9:38Speaker 1: you built through your your honesty, built through your you
- 9:42Speaker 1: know you through the performance. She was injured and you
- 9:46Speaker 1: you covered from that. So that's a journey in life
- 9:48Speaker 1: and you've been out there. But this brand is just growing.
- 9:51Speaker 1: That school. It's gonna allow us to talk about these
- 9:53Speaker 1: television productions that are coming up. Talk about that Kurt
- 9:56Speaker 1: Franklin brand. Uh. Well, you know this is going to
- 10:00Speaker 1: probably the part of the interview that I'm going to
- 10:02Speaker 1: suck at the most because I mean, you know me
- 10:05Speaker 1: better than anyone you know in this space, and I
- 10:09Speaker 1: am unapologetic in my faith. I'm unapologetic in my Christian
- 10:12Speaker 1: faith and I and I try to very hard to
- 10:15Speaker 1: live it more than I preach. It is because I
- 10:18Speaker 1: think people would rather see a sermon rather than here
- 10:21Speaker 1: a sermon any day. And so I really believe, well
- 10:27Speaker 1: unapologetic lead that everything that I'm blessed to do, it's
- 10:32Speaker 1: all by the grace and kindness of the Lord. I mean,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I'm not that smart, I'm not that genius to have
- 10:39Speaker 1: this strategy and plant. There may be other people that
- 10:42Speaker 1: are like that, but not me. I mean I am.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I am totally whatever. Whatever I've been blessed to do
- 10:50Speaker 1: or whatever I desire to do, is it's all because
- 10:53Speaker 1: of the Lord's kindness. It's it's it's not I don't
- 10:56Speaker 1: have a rimed, you know, I don't. I don't have
- 10:58Speaker 1: ingredients of songwriting. These are songs that God loans me.
- 11:01Speaker 1: These are these are these are moments I try to
- 11:04Speaker 1: be a good steward over um. One of my mentors
- 11:07Speaker 1: in life that one of my mentors, Dr Tony Evans
- 11:10Speaker 1: taught me is I'm a manager of everything, but I'm
- 11:13Speaker 1: an owner of nothing. That everything that everything belongs to
- 11:18Speaker 1: God and so I'm just a steward. I'm just a
- 11:21Speaker 1: manager of moments and so um, you know, and and
- 11:26Speaker 1: and I aligned with that ideal, those those those those
- 11:31Speaker 1: constructs of what I subscribe to. And it's it's it's
- 11:36Speaker 1: a boy the grace and kindness of Christ, you know.
- 11:39Speaker 1: So you know it's beautiful because Dr Tony Evans he
- 11:44Speaker 1: was on my show last week and the Priscilla Shire
- 11:46Speaker 1: and her son and it's just watching my show Shift.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You know, it's about money making conversations, but it's about life.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It's about journeys and things like that. When I look
- 11:56Speaker 1: at what you're doing. Um, the movie I saw, you
- 11:59Speaker 1: know their stars uh um McKinney and stars chas Lamar
- 12:04Speaker 1: Shepherd and Regina Bear comes up fire at the very
- 12:06Speaker 1: top of its you know, leading the church and strong
- 12:10Speaker 1: women and female characters. That's what that was My number
- 12:13Speaker 1: one takeaway from this particular project was that was that
- 12:17Speaker 1: was that a purposeful motion of uh take on this
- 12:22Speaker 1: particular script. You wanted to do a movie that had
- 12:25Speaker 1: the show women, especially black women, empowered in this manner
- 12:28Speaker 1: because they are very very um a directive their short leadership,
- 12:32Speaker 1: they're showing sensitivity, they're showing arts all these days. That's
- 12:35Speaker 1: my number one takeaway from this, which I thought was fantastic. Yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 1: that is no doubt a mandate for Lifetime. Lifetime is
- 12:43Speaker 1: very committed to UH, to diversity and to be able
- 12:47Speaker 1: to give women, especially women of color, opportunities in front
- 12:51Speaker 1: of the camera, behind the camera, and so um um
- 12:55Speaker 1: it is UH very much intentional. And and even from
- 13:00Speaker 1: from the writer of the movie to the to other
- 13:04Speaker 1: EPs that repeiing de parject with me, Tracy Tweinky Bird
- 13:09Speaker 1: and uh Leslie Grief and and and and just so
- 13:12Speaker 1: many others, is is that it is it is intentional
- 13:16Speaker 1: to be able to show the diversity of who we
- 13:19Speaker 1: are as people of color. And I even think that
- 13:21Speaker 1: Lifetime even allowing me to brand the movie Kirk Franklin's
- 13:27Speaker 1: and Gospel Christmas shows even their commitment to diversity to
- 13:31Speaker 1: even genres. UH. To be able to show that there's
- 13:36Speaker 1: a viability within the space, to be able to bring
- 13:39Speaker 1: to even allow somebody from my community to be able
- 13:42Speaker 1: to to brand the movie that they spend million of
- 13:46Speaker 1: dollars to make. It is something that I'm very humbled
- 13:48Speaker 1: of and and I and I and I pray that
- 13:51Speaker 1: the community comes out and supports it to be able
- 13:53Speaker 1: to show UH networks is because you and I both
- 13:57Speaker 1: know I'm UH. You know, TV and film, they're not
- 14:01Speaker 1: in the missionary business, you know, their money business, and
- 14:06Speaker 1: so and so it is very important that if we
- 14:09Speaker 1: want UH inspirational and aspirational entertainment, that we've got to
- 14:15Speaker 1: show up. That we've got to be able to show
- 14:17Speaker 1: up in the numbers. Like for example, in Lifetime was
- 14:21Speaker 1: the number one holiday movie destination, but over seventy one
- 14:25Speaker 1: eight million viewers watching this type of programming for the holidays.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And so with Kirk Franklin's The Gospel Christmas, I would
- 14:32Speaker 1: really love to show them that people really love this
- 14:36Speaker 1: genre of music and that they're going to show up
- 14:38Speaker 1: because they get excited like this. This movie will feature
- 14:43Speaker 1: reimagined versions of Christmas songs from my Christmas album You've
- 14:48Speaker 1: Got Me the Christmas Album in and so the theme
- 14:52Speaker 1: of the script was built around UH songs for my
- 14:56Speaker 1: Christmas album, and they've been reimagining UH for this movie.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And so it's going to be super dope and it's
- 15:04Speaker 1: it's going to be a very good, snuggy movie. Get
- 15:07Speaker 1: you some hot co co and UH and put you
- 15:11Speaker 1: one zon. We'll be right back with more money making
- 15:13Speaker 1: conversation with sixteen time Grammy Award winning gospel singer, arranger
- 15:17Speaker 1: and producer Kurt Franklin. It's finally here, the season of celebration,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and no matter how you celebrate with family and friends,
- 15:26Speaker 1: whether you're preparing for reys, magos or Karamu lighting the Manura,
- 15:30Speaker 1: are going to midnight mass, Coals has just what you
- 15:33Speaker 1: need to make those traditions special. Plus you'll find gifts
- 15:37Speaker 1: for all your loved ones. Send warm wishes with Cozy
- 15:40Speaker 1: Fleece's sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws. Support minority owned or
- 15:45Speaker 1: founded brands by giving gifts from Human Nation and shame moisture,
- 15:49Speaker 1: or treat them to everyone's favorite active wear from top
- 15:52Speaker 1: brands like Nike, Adidas, and under Armour. And in the
- 15:56Speaker 1: spirit of giving, Coals Cares is donating eight million dollars
- 15:59Speaker 1: to local nonprofits nationwide committed to the health and well
- 16:03Speaker 1: being of our communities. No matter how you celebrate, when
- 16:06Speaker 1: you shop at Coals, you're right where you belong. So
- 16:10Speaker 1: the season give with all your heart with great gifts
- 16:13Speaker 1: from Coals or Coals dot Com. What grows in the forest. Trees.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Sure no one else grows in the forest. Our imagination,
- 16:22Speaker 1: our sense of wonder, and our family bonds grow too,
- 16:25Speaker 1: because when we disconnect from this and connect with this,
- 16:32Speaker 1: we reconnect with each other. The forest is closer than
- 16:35Speaker 1: you think. Find a forest near you and start exploring.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I Discover the Forest dot org brought to you by
- 16:41Speaker 1: the United States Forest Service and the ad Council. Look
- 16:46Speaker 1: for your children's eyes to see the true magic of
- 16:48Speaker 1: a forest. It's a storybook world for them. You look
- 16:52Speaker 1: and see a tree. They see the wrinkled face of
- 16:55Speaker 1: a wizard with arms outstretched to the sky. They see
- 16:59Speaker 1: treasure and pebble. They see a windy path that could
- 17:02Speaker 1: lead to adventure, and they see you. They're fearless guide.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Is this fascinating world? Find a forest near you and
- 17:09Speaker 1: start exploring. I Discover the Forest dot orgon brought to
- 17:12Speaker 1: you by the United States Forest Service and the Council.
- 17:16Speaker 1: This is what Sean McDonald. Welcome back to Money Making
- 17:19Speaker 1: Conversations as I continue my conversation with sixteen time Grammy
- 17:23Speaker 1: Award winning gospel singer, songwriter, arranger and producer Kurt Franklin.
- 17:28Speaker 1: First of all, you know it's a romance. You know,
- 17:30Speaker 1: it's romance and attractive beads. Charles Lamar Sheppard, like I said,
- 17:35Speaker 1: it's Charles the Shipper. Before we go back to Steve
- 17:37Speaker 1: Harvey and I when we did this very first sitcom,
- 17:40Speaker 1: Me and the Boys back in ninety four, Chas Lamar
- 17:43Speaker 1: Sheppard was one of the kids on the show. So
- 17:45Speaker 1: I've been doing a chance all the way back to
- 17:48Speaker 1: his ninety four and then uh Dmitria McKinney, I've been
- 17:52Speaker 1: knowing us on my show. I met a wonderful son.
- 17:55Speaker 1: She's a powerful single mom. And then Regina Well, so
- 17:59Speaker 1: when I when I watch a show like this, like
- 18:02Speaker 1: I said, I just had Kelly Rowland and uh Precia
- 18:05Speaker 1: Webb on the show talking about their life Time project.
- 18:09Speaker 1: All the reason I bringing up in interviews that Lifetime
- 18:12Speaker 1: is making a commit meant to diversity. Like you were saying,
- 18:15Speaker 1: this is not a warm They're comfortable with putting us
- 18:19Speaker 1: people of color on their network. That's important for us
- 18:23Speaker 1: to see, correct, very important. But just because we we
- 18:28Speaker 1: we have heard what's been coined as this new UH phrase,
- 18:33Speaker 1: but it's really true across all cultural UH formats, is
- 18:39Speaker 1: that representation matters, and so that matters in any aspect.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Uh it's not on the gender, I uh, gender equality,
- 18:50Speaker 1: but it's also racing equality and and so uh these
- 18:53Speaker 1: things matter. These these these things matter to also be
- 18:56Speaker 1: able to address some of the key line things that
- 19:00Speaker 1: systemically divide us, like socio economic equality or disparity. And
- 19:04Speaker 1: so when when black folk are able to write scripts
- 19:08Speaker 1: and to be behind the camera into workal movies, then
- 19:11Speaker 1: now what you're doing is that you're making that that
- 19:14Speaker 1: playground a a more more more fair opportunity for all people.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Is because you're not only seeing us with with needs
- 19:24Speaker 1: on our next in the street. You're saying that we
- 19:27Speaker 1: want to be able to show a bigger image of
- 19:30Speaker 1: the hopefulness that can come from a community of people. Well,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you know the beauty of you know, like I was mentioned,
- 19:36Speaker 1: like I was interviewing Dr Tony Evans based out of Dallas,
- 19:40Speaker 1: is about his documentary and his journey and and what
- 19:44Speaker 1: I call him as a visual bible is beautiful going
- 19:47Speaker 1: back with his family and all this stuff is his
- 19:51Speaker 1: wife is in it before she passed away and said
- 19:54Speaker 1: daddy who's recently passed away. So it's an emotional story,
- 19:57Speaker 1: but what I want to say is that never in
- 20:00Speaker 1: life have I seen this amount of black culture on
- 20:04Speaker 1: so many different unique mainstreams, you know, And that's the
- 20:08Speaker 1: beauty of where we're living at, Kirk. And for you
- 20:10Speaker 1: to be a person who you know, who has come
- 20:13Speaker 1: through the lens of music and music allows you to
- 20:16Speaker 1: produce videos and be a part of that directoral And
- 20:19Speaker 1: one of I'm telling you one of the all time
- 20:21Speaker 1: great funny, entertaining videos was when Kurt's poofed himself with
- 20:25Speaker 1: Steve Harvey back. If y'all find that video, that's one
- 20:28Speaker 1: of the funniest videos of all time. When they do
- 20:30Speaker 1: a spoof of Eddie murphtt, that's one of the all
- 20:36Speaker 1: time This brother is very funny. I just popped in
- 20:39Speaker 1: my head when I was thinking about your laughing about that, man.
- 20:42Speaker 1: But when you look at these transitions. Man, now you're
- 20:45Speaker 1: about to do a Shooes eight episode series that explores
- 20:48Speaker 1: the gospel music industry through the lens family, faith, love,
- 20:52Speaker 1: and redemptive power of music. That's the power of gospel
- 20:56Speaker 1: music is the redemptive power. That's what I got out
- 21:00Speaker 1: to show your movie. They're just watching, you know, Kirk,
- 21:02Speaker 1: Franklin's Our Gospel Christmas is redemptive because of the fact
- 21:06Speaker 1: that in her she doubted herself. She didn't believe she
- 21:10Speaker 1: could accomplish the task that her parents knew she could do.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And that's really powerful content for young people to see,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and especially for black people to see. Yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 21:21Speaker 1: it is that. I think that that that that the
- 21:26Speaker 1: the narrative of the black experience in North America is
- 21:31Speaker 1: so transferable uh over socio economic lines uh um uh
- 21:39Speaker 1: religious lines, uh lines of academia and scholarship. Is because
- 21:46Speaker 1: as people of color, we speak these these secret languages,
- 21:50Speaker 1: these these these these waves and and and and and
- 21:55Speaker 1: these energies that that are just transferable to our people.
- 21:59Speaker 1: We we we know what this means. You know, we
- 22:05Speaker 1: know what this means. You know what I'm saying. You
- 22:08Speaker 1: know you know, you know you know. And if we
- 22:11Speaker 1: understand it, if you went to an h b c
- 22:13Speaker 1: U or if you went to an Ivy League school,
- 22:16Speaker 1: you understand the heartbeat of our people and soul. For
- 22:20Speaker 1: Hollywood two uh to not always continue to appropriate our experience,
- 22:29Speaker 1: but to include us in our own stories. Um, it
- 22:33Speaker 1: just makes for a for for for a more civil
- 22:37Speaker 1: society when people feel like they matter and their experiences
- 22:42Speaker 1: are not being plagiarized, but but but they are being
- 22:46Speaker 1: they are being compensated for the uniqueness of how God
- 22:51Speaker 1: made Before we get into the drama series Kingdom U
- 22:56Speaker 1: Kingdom Business. Now the Apple TV Plus that you're doing
- 23:00Speaker 1: with Mariah Carey Kali, what exactly is that? And it
- 23:04Speaker 1: follows the line of Christmas. What exactly is that? There's
- 23:06Speaker 1: gonna air in December. Yeah, well, I mean we all
- 23:10Speaker 1: know that Maria carris Christmas song is the biggest, biggest
- 23:13Speaker 1: Christmas song in history, her single All I Want for
- 23:16Speaker 1: Christmas as you. And so with this new single that
- 23:19Speaker 1: we were part of, she she presented a or she's
- 23:24Speaker 1: going to be a part of a a a Christmas
- 23:27Speaker 1: special that's featuring her and it's gonna be a big
- 23:30Speaker 1: production for Apple TV for for the Christmas holidays, and
- 23:34Speaker 1: you'll be able to get to watch it. And of
- 23:36Speaker 1: course me and and and uh Khalid will be performing
- 23:41Speaker 1: my song and it's a major production. She's going to
- 23:44Speaker 1: be doing several different songs and so it's a big event.
- 23:47Speaker 1: It's going to be a big event for Apple Plus.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And uh there's no release date for it, yet Apple
- 23:54Speaker 1: wants it to be something that is kind of a
- 23:57Speaker 1: shock value moment. But it will be the only place
- 24:00Speaker 1: that you'll be able to see the performance of us
- 24:02Speaker 1: three together for the song. Uh. It's an exclusive performance.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And so it's going to be a very big night
- 24:09Speaker 1: once again for the coaching. And now let's go on
- 24:12Speaker 1: to my main you know, Kingdom Business eight episodes, Olly Corner,
- 24:19Speaker 1: you know the Franklin Franklin come on now talk to
- 24:23Speaker 1: talk about this new series. Man. Yeah, man, we were
- 24:27Speaker 1: working on this project for about three years, just just um,
- 24:31Speaker 1: just working on development. Uh sack Mere and uh Sagma
- 24:37Speaker 1: and lean Heart are two beautiful white brothers that had
- 24:40Speaker 1: the script that that had a story about gospel music
- 24:46Speaker 1: and faith and challenges and drama and and and just
- 24:50Speaker 1: the realities of of of of like real life experiences.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Uh that are all the backdrop of this incredible opportunity
- 25:00Speaker 1: for music. I'm also the not only man and most
- 25:02Speaker 1: of one of the the executive produces, I'm the music supervisor
- 25:05Speaker 1: and so uh, by God's great, I'm writing new music
- 25:09Speaker 1: for every episode, every scene. Uh that that that gospel
- 25:13Speaker 1: music is now being a part of telling biggest stories
- 25:16Speaker 1: and so like you hear music, uh in the episodes
- 25:20Speaker 1: that are that are from from the culture, but they
- 25:24Speaker 1: speak to the moments that that that the script requires.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And it was a wonderful opportunity. It's hard. I'm in
- 25:31Speaker 1: the studio right now finishing one of the songs right now.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I was here to five o'clock this morning, just kind
- 25:37Speaker 1: of finishing episode. And I'm back today for the band
- 25:41Speaker 1: and singers while doing interviews for for Kirk Franker's and
- 25:45Speaker 1: Gospel Christmas. So, you know, it's it's, it's it's been
- 25:48Speaker 1: a lot of work because Kingdom business is a it's
- 25:53Speaker 1: it's uh, it's it's episodic, so you know, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 1: so so you're having to wait on script to be
- 26:00Speaker 1: able to know that what's happening, you know. And I've
- 26:03Speaker 1: got a couple and and I'm also a character in
- 26:07Speaker 1: in A in A in a few of the episodes.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I make these cameos as a very left of center character.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It's not it's not what's what's what's suspected of me?
- 26:17Speaker 1: And so you know, just's I just let me tell
- 26:21Speaker 1: you what my modus OPERENDI is a life. I mean,
- 26:23Speaker 1: everything we've talked about today. The bottom line is what
- 26:26Speaker 1: I want my friend, Sean as I just want to
- 26:29Speaker 1: make God proud of you. You know when I before
- 26:34Speaker 1: we got on the mike, I was like jumping for
- 26:36Speaker 1: joy for you because you know when I see people
- 26:39Speaker 1: make transitions, and I can remember Man was on the
- 26:41Speaker 1: set of Sister Sister way back then, you know, and
- 26:45Speaker 1: it was like, Wow, Man, I'm seeing my brother Man,
- 26:48Speaker 1: And you know, I loved you. U was hosting the
- 26:50Speaker 1: gopel Or singing competition. I used to love that seeing
- 26:53Speaker 1: you do that, Man, and that was one of my
- 26:55Speaker 1: favorite shows just watching you Man, just just so smooth
- 26:59Speaker 1: siculate Man, just on the point and just knowing that
- 27:02Speaker 1: you cared about people where they want all loss, you know,
- 27:06Speaker 1: because it's a journey and to see you now this
- 27:08Speaker 1: is this hard breaking this this road into being a
- 27:11Speaker 1: television abuser. And you're doing both hats. You're executive producing
- 27:15Speaker 1: and also your music director. And so people understand what
- 27:19Speaker 1: he's saying. He's saying that we talked about a video
- 27:23Speaker 1: with Mariah Carey. Okay, you know college it's already got
- 27:29Speaker 1: one point five million views. We talked about Apple TV special.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Apple ain't told them yet when they're gonna drop it
- 27:35Speaker 1: in the month of the Center. We talked about, you know,
- 27:38Speaker 1: Kurt Franklin, a gospel Christmas coming out, you know, December
- 27:43Speaker 1: fourth on Lifetime, and now he has a series he's
- 27:45Speaker 1: doing with the Varn Franklin, who is one of my
- 27:47Speaker 1: favorite people who's marriage or Megan Good another one of
- 27:50Speaker 1: my favorite people who totally intriched in the gospel word.
- 27:54Speaker 1: My man, this is a great interview for me to
- 27:56Speaker 1: share with my viewers, my listeners because frank you're blessing brother.
- 28:01Speaker 1: You've always been that way, man, and I appreciate you. Man.

- 28:56Speaker 1: an inner city and it's sitting up. It's a misconception
- 28:59Speaker 1: in this what we're trying to expose that to bring
- 29:01Speaker 1: truth to life. But you feel like you have limited
- 29:03Speaker 1: options to where either to make money, I got to
- 29:05Speaker 1: play sports or I gotta do some eliteal hustle because
- 29:09Speaker 1: I don't have another avenue for me to help get
- 29:12Speaker 1: out of this poverty UH and its hardship in its
- 29:15Speaker 1: inner city. If you were to hear this full interview

- 32:07Speaker 1: send my flirted with each other. We ain't done at all. Okay,
- 32:10Speaker 1: but you know we didn't do that. We didn't go
- 32:11Speaker 1: that far. No, no, no, no no. But this this
- 32:15Speaker 1: the trippy part, y'all be cause y'all may be listening

- 32:44Speaker 1: look great, Thank you shut It's okay to see you.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Oh you look beautiful. Talk about the journey you know,
- 32:51Speaker 1: because like I said, you know, I'm not trying to
- 32:53Speaker 1: sound insulting or anything, but you know, we know you've
- 32:56Speaker 1: always been an attractive woman. I'm in knowing you since
- 32:59Speaker 1: you twenty is. We've stand up common, We've been hung
- 33:02Speaker 1: out in Bermuda, she we've been all over, we've been
- 33:04Speaker 1: women tracking and the beauty of her is that she's
- 33:10Speaker 1: always had a high level of sincerity about her skill
- 33:15Speaker 1: and she's always crossed old. You know, you see on
- 33:17Speaker 1: The Black Show, you see on b T, you see
- 33:19Speaker 1: on on you see on ABC, You'll see on Hosting.
- 33:22Speaker 1: You'll see her doing stand up comedy. She goes on tour,
- 33:25Speaker 1: she promotes live on stage. That makes you very and
- 33:28Speaker 1: plus she's philanthropic. One of my good friends a Rivera Martin.
- 33:32Speaker 1: You know, she's on the board of her her UHT
- 33:38Speaker 1: Autistic Needs Work Special Needs Now absolutely that the fights artism.
- 33:43Speaker 1: And so when I look at you today as beautiful
- 33:46Speaker 1: as you look, what's going on? Ken? Why Why am I?
- 33:50Speaker 1: Why am I? Why am I almost flirting in my
- 33:52Speaker 1: interview with you because you're looking so hot? Come on, girl?
- 33:54Speaker 1: What's going on? I love you? Because you know what
- 33:57Speaker 1: during that pandemic why everybody was ain't in thirty pounds.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I lost thirty pounds. I had to, you know, look
- 34:04Speaker 1: at myself and you know, I got a son and
- 34:08Speaker 1: be healthy and like, this industry is forever evolving. So
- 34:13Speaker 1: if you want, yeah, and you want to stay in
- 34:15Speaker 1: the game, you gotta see what the game was doing.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Absolutely well. Okay, so when you say that, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 1: like I said, did you specifically choose a diet or
- 34:25Speaker 1: you just changed your eating habits? What was the what
- 34:27Speaker 1: was the number one reason for that weight loss? Well,
- 34:33Speaker 1: since i'mone had the name dropping get Oprah, yeah you
- 34:39Speaker 1: wrong that? Oh my god. W W weight Conscious of
- 34:45Speaker 1: course approached me and as an ambassador and I was like,
- 34:52Speaker 1: I don't need to lose weight. And I was like, no,
- 34:53Speaker 1: you need to lose weight. And what happened. It came
- 34:56Speaker 1: at a perfect time in my life that I could
- 34:58Speaker 1: focus on it, you know, when it's a up and
- 35:00Speaker 1: it was something that said I can inspire others and
- 35:03Speaker 1: make money. I was that was right up my alley,
- 35:06Speaker 1: and um, it really showed me how to live and
- 35:12Speaker 1: get healthy. It was it's a lifestyle situation. I heard
- 35:15Speaker 1: people say that, oh it's a lifestyle you gotta know.
- 35:19Speaker 1: But like you, I always looked at you and you
- 35:21Speaker 1: always look good in the sup but you were always healthy,
- 35:24Speaker 1: you were always fit, and you look good. So you know,
- 35:28Speaker 1: I wanted to be that person. I'm still a tomboy though,
- 35:31Speaker 1: but I still you know, but I wanted to do that.
- 35:35Speaker 1: So weight watchers, Uh, well w W really helped me
- 35:39Speaker 1: do that. We really did. You know what really is
- 35:42Speaker 1: what really is so good about it? Your your facial
- 35:44Speaker 1: skin looks amazing, it looks, it just glows. It's just
- 35:50Speaker 1: your your skin tone, your eyes, everything's your neck, all
- 35:54Speaker 1: those areas where you see let weight logs can like
- 35:57Speaker 1: really be a detriment because it shows really is complimenting
- 36:01Speaker 1: you because you know it looks great. Talk about that. Well,
- 36:06Speaker 1: thank you so much. You know, I'm a firm, a
- 36:09Speaker 1: really really firm believer in how you feel on the
- 36:11Speaker 1: inside will come out on the outside. So, um, a
- 36:15Speaker 1: lot of water is what they really make you drink. Um,
- 36:19Speaker 1: you stay hydrated, your skin is gonna look good. But
- 36:22Speaker 1: being happy on the inside, um, I think it comes
- 36:25Speaker 1: out because people are always like you're always so happy.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I really try to maintain that because I like to
- 36:30Speaker 1: be an inspiration to so many people. Um So, I
- 36:34Speaker 1: think that's what And when I look good and feel good,
- 36:37Speaker 1: then I'm even happier. You know. It's it's an up
- 36:40Speaker 1: and down thing. You you know, even if I lost
- 36:43Speaker 1: thirty pounds, you know, I might have gained some back
- 36:46Speaker 1: right now, and now it's just I get back on
- 36:48Speaker 1: the journey. I mean I never stopped. But then you
- 36:50Speaker 1: have to you know, work out some more, drink some
- 36:52Speaker 1: more water. Um So it's a constant, uh struggle because
- 36:57Speaker 1: it didn't take me this many years to get that size.
- 37:00Speaker 1: So it's not gonna be an overnight thing. And one
- 37:02Speaker 1: thing I am a true believer. I tell people Tomorrow
- 37:06Speaker 1: is gonna come in for lucky, Christmas is gonna come,
- 37:08Speaker 1: Valentine's Day is gonna come. You can make a choice.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Do I want to be where I am right now?
- 37:14Speaker 1: And that day is going to come, Valentine's Day's gonna come,
- 37:16Speaker 1: Christmas gonna come. I can say, you know what, I'm
- 37:18Speaker 1: gonna be thirty pounds where I am now, where I
- 37:20Speaker 1: could be ten pounds lighter, because it's gonna come anyway.
- 37:24Speaker 1: You gotta eat slide, but gonna just change it right. Well,
- 37:27Speaker 1: you know, I have reason I'm very complimentary because, like
- 37:30Speaker 1: I said, you know, certain people lose weight and they
- 37:32Speaker 1: don't look like they used, they don't look like they
- 37:35Speaker 1: are you know, they lose so much weight. You still
- 37:38Speaker 1: look attractive, you still look like Kim Whitley, and you
- 37:41Speaker 1: look fantastic. I'm just saying, you're just glowing now. You know,
- 37:45Speaker 1: I see just this next level of confidence and you
- 37:48Speaker 1: And Lord knows she's a confident person anyway, but I
- 37:51Speaker 1: just see but she's but she just really at a
- 37:53Speaker 1: point of life. I just wanted to express my congratulations
- 37:56Speaker 1: to you. And now let's you don't talk since your
- 37:59Speaker 1: lost way. Let's talk about this food fight. First of all,
- 38:02Speaker 1: if it's all that didn't get me a man, girl,
- 38:09Speaker 1: the way you look, you just you're just tripping that.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You're just tripping that. Okay, you can get a man.
- 38:14Speaker 1: You got your upstairs, always been kicking. Okay, you know what.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Now you got the teeth and the smile, a little
- 38:22Speaker 1: beautiful eye, and got this hairstyle, the little bands and everything.
- 38:27Speaker 1: So you just stopped throwing that get me a man talk.
- 38:30Speaker 1: You know, you're just being selected right now and rightfully
- 38:33Speaker 1: so because your start. You can't let everybody in your life,
- 38:35Speaker 1: in your songs life. You can't let every man just
- 38:37Speaker 1: roll up in that. And she got a house. You know,
- 38:40Speaker 1: I've been to the house too, so this this is
- 38:41Speaker 1: family right here. I've been to the house, got a
- 38:43Speaker 1: little little metal gate, got a close. You don't even
- 38:46Speaker 1: know when she'll live on that house on that corner.
- 38:48Speaker 1: You know you, oh, oh, somebody lived back there. What
- 38:55Speaker 1: I'm talking about that I need a man. The girl
- 38:59Speaker 1: has a beautiful son, U and she has standards. Guys
- 39:02Speaker 1: looking at me, So don't let the cute phase the
- 39:04Speaker 1: successful you because what she is not going to do
- 39:08Speaker 1: is be disrespected and then show her young man that
- 39:11Speaker 1: she's building opetially. This is how I allowed men to
- 39:14Speaker 1: treat me, so he would treat women like that too.
- 39:17Speaker 1: She goes, no, not, I know, Kim, she gonna That's
- 39:19Speaker 1: why we joke around by kidding her. Man. She knows
- 39:22Speaker 1: she's at a different point of because one point, as
- 39:24Speaker 1: you get older, you want that relationship, but it has
- 39:27Speaker 1: to be for the right reasons. Come on, come on, absolutely,
- 39:30Speaker 1: especially because I have a son, thank you. That's why
- 39:34Speaker 1: let's talk about this this food show here. You know
- 39:37Speaker 1: that you know episode our Big Holiday Food Fight premaried
- 39:42Speaker 1: on Tuesday, November sex tape on ON That's right, you know,
- 39:50Speaker 1: On is like my home network. Uh, you know, and
- 39:53Speaker 1: when this opportunity came, uh, it sounded like so much
- 39:57Speaker 1: fun because I can't cook. Uh, I'm not like a ship.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I worked too hard. You know. I was on this
- 40:04Speaker 1: show Worst Cook. So I'm not pretty good. No no,
- 40:08Speaker 1: no no, don't don't let nobody don't. I didn't do good.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I'll tell you something. That's my that's my daughter's favorite show.
- 40:16Speaker 1: She knows who she knows. She knows Kim Winley. Okay,
- 40:19Speaker 1: because she said, daddy, do you know her? Because she
- 40:21Speaker 1: said comedian? I said, girl, that's one of my dear friend.
- 40:25Speaker 1: My daughter said she can't cook that she terri she's
- 40:28Speaker 1: really really bad. I said, are you are you serious
- 40:31Speaker 1: or you're joking? She said a little, Dad, she's really
- 40:33Speaker 1: really bad. She didn't gotta put two realies on it,
- 40:39Speaker 1: so they got a really really bad person who can't cook.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Is now the host of an incredibly popular The Big
- 40:47Speaker 1: Holiday Food Fight. Put me on all That's perfect. That's perfect, perfect,
- 40:52Speaker 1: it's the perfect that's perfect yea, because because I can eat.
- 40:56Speaker 1: That was the difference. That's the whole point. I like
- 41:00Speaker 1: the food, and we have some great judges. They are
- 41:02Speaker 1: real shook. Let me let me just start there because
- 41:05Speaker 1: your boy James right in there. I gotta started with James, right, Okay, cool? Now,
- 41:10Speaker 1: a little little history on James, right, y'all don't know James, right,
- 41:14Speaker 1: I'll the judges and the Neelie. I think I know
- 41:16Speaker 1: Gina and uh the super Share. But who has just
- 41:19Speaker 1: changed right there? Okay. I was in the l A
- 41:22Speaker 1: and Steve Brown, he's over Fox programming, okay, and uh
- 41:26Speaker 1: Fox TV programming syndication, especially bench stuff. And he said,
- 41:31Speaker 1: white guy, and you said, rochean. He said, have you
- 41:33Speaker 1: seen this video or this guy singing about Patty Labels
- 41:37Speaker 1: sweeper tato past What you're talking about? He said, Man,
- 41:40Speaker 1: that thing has went viral. He said right here, look
- 41:43Speaker 1: he showed that was the first time I saw James
- 41:46Speaker 1: right and there we were talking about Patty Patty pas.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Now at the time, Patty LaBelle had launched her sweeper
- 41:53Speaker 1: tator paes in Walmart. They were doing all right, They
- 41:57Speaker 1: were doing all right. The man went on social media
- 42:04Speaker 1: and you couldn't find a paddle la Bell sweepertater pot.
- 42:08Speaker 1: That's who James right Chanelle is. He launched his her
- 42:11Speaker 1: career just on just posting the video. And he's a
- 42:15Speaker 1: social media diva. He's a reality show diva. He is
- 42:20Speaker 1: a good friends because of interview Patty and May and
- 42:23Speaker 1: she said she loves him to death, so they have
- 42:25Speaker 1: a relationship. And now he's one of the judges on
- 42:28Speaker 1: this show. So all I can say is funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny, funny.
- 42:34Speaker 1: And he's a fool, let me tell you that. But
- 42:35Speaker 1: guess what he can cook? Yes he can't, Yes she can't.
- 42:40Speaker 1: He can really cook. So that's what and and money
- 42:42Speaker 1: and consing and so that really uh Rashana makes it
- 42:47Speaker 1: a great mixture, um, because then you know everybody can cook,
- 42:51Speaker 1: the well, the judges, you know, Gina Nearly and super
- 42:54Speaker 1: chef uh Darnell Ferguson. So it's a it's a good blend.
- 42:58Speaker 1: And then you got me as the host. It's fantastic.
- 43:00Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more. Might to make a
- 43:02Speaker 1: conversation with comedian, actress and host of the new cooking
- 43:05Speaker 1: competition series The Big Holiday Food Fight, Kim Whitley. If
- 43:10Speaker 1: I could be you and you could be me for

- 44:17Speaker 1: Mom is coming out the front door strong with a
- 44:20Speaker 1: double arm kid carry. Looks like Dad has the bags,
- 44:22Speaker 1: daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh but the diaper
- 44:26Speaker 1: bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere. Oh but
- 44:31Speaker 1: mom has just nailed the perfect car seat buckle for
- 44:34Speaker 1: the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who looks to
- 44:37Speaker 1: be about nine or ten, has secured herself in the
- 44:40Speaker 1: booster seat. Dad zips the bag clothes and they're off. Ah,
- 44:45Speaker 1: but looks like mom doesn't realize her coffee cup is
- 44:47Speaker 1: still on the roof of the car and there it goes. Ah.
- 44:52Speaker 1: That's a shame that mug was a fan favorite. Don't

- 45:14Speaker 1: I continue my conversation with comedian actress and the host
- 45:17Speaker 1: of the new cookie competition series The Big Holiday Food Fight,
- 45:21Speaker 1: Kim Whitley. Well you know, the fantastic I'm just telling you,
- 45:26Speaker 1: Kim with it. Being the host makes it fantastic. Having
- 45:30Speaker 1: Neely who has a reputation. You know, we all know
- 45:32Speaker 1: in the culinary field. She's one of the top doggs cookbooks,
- 45:37Speaker 1: television shows. All that's when I saw her, I go
- 45:39Speaker 1: this the real Deal. And you got cool Cool Mo D.
- 45:42Speaker 1: I call him Cool Mo D Super share ferguson Cool
- 45:45Speaker 1: Mo D. And then you got James right Chanel coming here.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Now let's go over to these contestants trying to win
- 45:52Speaker 1: this five thousand dollars. Okay, now, you know because you
- 45:58Speaker 1: did a show, you know, Worst Cooks, Celebrity Worst Cooks,
- 46:02Speaker 1: so you know how it works, time laps and all
- 46:04Speaker 1: that stuff. What was different in this Plus you're dealing
- 46:08Speaker 1: with people who really television for the first time, you know,
- 46:12Speaker 1: uh put on the spot, cooking on the Spot. It
- 46:15Speaker 1: was some things that didn't go like they wanted to do.
- 46:18Speaker 1: The world saw that. So talk about that whole set
- 46:20Speaker 1: up there, because you have to be like um mom, host, entertainer,
- 46:26Speaker 1: but also sympathetic and encourager as well. Correct. Yes, look,
- 46:31Speaker 1: you hit all of that because it was difficult because
- 46:34Speaker 1: these are regular everyday people. They're not used to television.
- 46:38Speaker 1: They have their mama's grandmama's recipe and they say it's
- 46:42Speaker 1: the best, I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna win this money.
- 46:45Speaker 1: And if you make a face, so you don't really
- 46:47Speaker 1: like that ingredients they put in there, they are not
- 46:50Speaker 1: happy and they don't even know what to how to
- 46:52Speaker 1: express themselves. It was it was a mess. And then
- 46:56Speaker 1: you have the judges. You know, they don't want to
- 46:58Speaker 1: taste the stuff, but they do want it was maybe
- 47:02Speaker 1: we were having problems. You know. It was a lot
- 47:06Speaker 1: going on, which actually made it for a good show. Absolutely. Yeah,
- 47:11Speaker 1: we all like you want that uncertainty, but you know,
- 47:14Speaker 1: let's let's go and be real about because you host,
- 47:16Speaker 1: so it's kind of like, you know, if you're the
- 47:18Speaker 1: circus and the elephants don't come out, that you got
- 47:20Speaker 1: a problem. You know what I'm saying, what the elephants that?
- 47:22Speaker 1: So you have to make sure the energy stays the same.
- 47:25Speaker 1: So you're a lot of pressure, Kim to host this show.
- 47:29Speaker 1: It's a lot. There was one. I mean one time
- 47:33Speaker 1: I just I was like, uh, cut let me I
- 47:36Speaker 1: got tox of producers. I was like I had to
- 47:39Speaker 1: go and whisper. I was like, uh, is he gonna
- 47:42Speaker 1: be all right? Or you know, because people were getting upset.
- 47:45Speaker 1: It was a lot. Now it's Christmas time, you know,
- 47:49Speaker 1: this is so what what what kind of what kind
- 47:51Speaker 1: of recipes or what type of food on trades or
- 47:55Speaker 1: desserts do we expect on this particular series of episodes
- 47:59Speaker 1: star Well, we're all that's right. Starting this with the
- 48:03Speaker 1: favorite family recipes. There were were oh that's my camera. Sorry,
- 48:09Speaker 1: um something, Sorry, I had to do that. I just
- 48:13Speaker 1: what happened sometimes is I get blurry because I'm so
- 48:16Speaker 1: beautiful that the world, the world can't take my beauty.
- 48:20Speaker 1: That would be my camera. I am so sorry. Oh
- 48:26Speaker 1: my gosh, how embarrassing. Oh my god, the world call
- 48:30Speaker 1: on beauty anymore. I'm so sorry. And I used this
- 48:40Speaker 1: for me and share his podcast and I'm gonna talk
- 48:42Speaker 1: about that in a minute, because I wanted to talk
- 48:44Speaker 1: about my girl Sherry the single Mom podcast. There you
- 48:49Speaker 1: goes back, there you go cool. That face you made
- 48:52Speaker 1: brought it back. It didn't bring it back, you know,
- 48:57Speaker 1: but a lot of people, if we're talking about the recipes,
- 49:00Speaker 1: they like mac and cheese, greens, you know, the green Beat,
- 49:05Speaker 1: they I will tell you. I can tell you this
- 49:08Speaker 1: because we tell like they can make it one of
- 49:10Speaker 1: their own for one of the rounds. Then we give
- 49:13Speaker 1: them one to make and they have to make it appetizing. Baby.
- 49:16Speaker 1: When we telling all these people green being cast roll honey,
- 49:20Speaker 1: I cats, black people don't make green bean casserole because
- 49:22Speaker 1: they all turned their face up to us. So I
- 49:26Speaker 1: know how to make green bean cassero. I made it
- 49:28Speaker 1: in college green being google Losh, so I can make
- 49:31Speaker 1: that in the heartbeat. Okay, But what I cannot do, Kim,
- 49:34Speaker 1: is what they do, you know, make it on the spot.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I don't you know, you gotta I gotta have my recipe.
- 49:42Speaker 1: I gotta know all that stuff. You know. That's because
- 49:46Speaker 1: you learned that on the Worst Cook episode got I
- 49:49Speaker 1: don't know how these people these people were cooking without
- 49:51Speaker 1: a recipe. Yes, and that's what part it makes it interesting,
- 49:55Speaker 1: but also could be frustrated because, as you know, too
- 49:58Speaker 1: much salt changes the recipe, too much, you know, not
- 50:02Speaker 1: enough water changes the recipe of all your contestants. What
- 50:05Speaker 1: was the most challenging part of the show. We're balancing
- 50:08Speaker 1: the judge's energy because you gotta keep them engaged and
- 50:11Speaker 1: then and then also you have to stop them from
- 50:13Speaker 1: going too far, you know, with with comments and criticism.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Talk about that. Wow, your questions are difficult and interesting,
- 50:25Speaker 1: you know. It was it was the balance of wanting
- 50:30Speaker 1: the contestants to still have fun and be competitive and
- 50:33Speaker 1: don't give up, and for the judges not to be
- 50:37Speaker 1: too judgmental, and for everyone to have fun. That was
- 50:42Speaker 1: the thing. It's a competition. It's five thousand dollars, it's
- 50:45Speaker 1: not you know and all be all. It's some money.
- 50:49Speaker 1: But to think of it as an opportunity to just
- 50:53Speaker 1: have a good time and share your recipes. I think
- 50:56Speaker 1: that was the hardest part. And not hurting anybody's feelings.
- 51:01Speaker 1: That was It was a difficult. It was a tight role,
- 51:03Speaker 1: right right. What we're talking to Kim. She just starved
- 51:06Speaker 1: this new television series of food competition show on Network,
- 51:10Speaker 1: The Big Holiday Food Fight, but one of one of
- 51:13Speaker 1: the I'm gonna transition a little bit to one of
- 51:15Speaker 1: my favorite podcasts. She does it with a good friend
- 51:18Speaker 1: of mine, Shary Shepherd, and it talks about single mom.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It really started on the Tom Join the show and
- 51:23Speaker 1: it was doing so great. They decided to just take
- 51:25Speaker 1: it to another level. They just stopped. Tom, you might
- 51:28Speaker 1: be gone, but they ain't going nowhere. Talk about that
- 51:31Speaker 1: because we talked about that. When we're gonna different shot
- 51:33Speaker 1: what are we gonna do with y'all? That's our vote,
- 51:35Speaker 1: which you don't know, it always goes up another level,
- 51:38Speaker 1: shot down. Talk about your podcast that you don't Sharry Shepherd,
- 51:45Speaker 1: why is it so popular? Oh my gosh, you know
- 51:48Speaker 1: man Shary Weird Comics were one time joining it together
- 51:51Speaker 1: and Sherry was like, let's do this podcast. And I
- 51:53Speaker 1: was like, I don't like doing the podcast. We have
- 51:55Speaker 1: so much other things too. She's like, it would be great.
- 51:57Speaker 1: So Sherry put it together and I showed up. I
- 51:59Speaker 1: was like, so I didn't believe her. I was like,
- 52:03Speaker 1: nobody's gonna want to hear us talk and too funny Mamas.
- 52:06Speaker 1: We started U during the pandemic Oh Mother's Day, and
- 52:12Speaker 1: it has done very well. People love hearing us talk
- 52:16Speaker 1: about being single mothers, being in the industry, working our kids.
- 52:22Speaker 1: What do we do? Uh, it's a lot of funny
- 52:25Speaker 1: and there's no like we don't since we since it's
- 52:28Speaker 1: since ourselves a little bit, but not really and we
- 52:30Speaker 1: just had fun. Like Sary did something, I got mad
- 52:33Speaker 1: at her. So we had a big old argument and
- 52:37Speaker 1: we want to get and aired it out right on
- 52:39Speaker 1: the podcast. It's real life. Let's get over it. So
- 52:45Speaker 1: that was the whole thing. And now the podcast, it's
- 52:48Speaker 1: just it's just the one that's tied into Sheila l Yes,
- 52:52Speaker 1: that's right, you know everything down. You know, it's so
- 52:55Speaker 1: funny because you know, she like my girl. And I
- 52:57Speaker 1: remember Sheila was going because she came to me, she goes.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Can you give me some suggestions of some really good podcast, said,
- 53:03Speaker 1: I'm tell you something, my girl Kim Whoodley and and
- 53:08Speaker 1: sherif sheperd got a podcast that should be one of
- 53:10Speaker 1: your top kids. I'm gonna just tell you the truth.
- 53:12Speaker 1: You can ask you. You You called because I'm I'm fans.
- 53:15Speaker 1: What I do is people called me, I tell them
- 53:17Speaker 1: the truth. And when I see people who are hard workers,
- 53:21Speaker 1: and that's what they are. You know, we we were
- 53:23Speaker 1: shifted bringing in Sheriff Shepherd name, but she's a hard worker.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Been knowing her since the Jamie Fox days. I've been
- 53:28Speaker 1: doing this little girl right here since way back in
- 53:31Speaker 1: way back when first acting casting. No wait, wait what
- 53:34Speaker 1: was It was Rever with the with the car and
- 53:38Speaker 1: the car cloud. What was the show good? That was?
- 53:40Speaker 1: That was the Parenthood? That was parents who Fanshood? See
- 53:44Speaker 1: that when you know you're famous, see that we can
- 53:46Speaker 1: tell you're famous. That's when you know you've done a lot,
- 53:48Speaker 1: when you had a career. I tell you when I
- 53:51Speaker 1: brought her own in twenty seventeen, she knew it was
- 53:53Speaker 1: parent Hood. Fan for four years for that show. What
- 53:57Speaker 1: was that? Sh Oh this show? Play the clown face
- 54:02Speaker 1: and didn't want to kiss me. He's a little fat
- 54:05Speaker 1: behind act like he looks good, little ugly dude. They
- 54:08Speaker 1: want kiss me? Huh like me? Now with me? I
- 54:15Speaker 1: hain't that traumatize me? I did he not want to
- 54:20Speaker 1: kiss me? And made it up? I know she was
- 54:24Speaker 1: a clown hed I want kiss new clown? On kiss
- 54:26Speaker 1: new clown? I said, brother, come on, man, just make up.
- 54:29Speaker 1: It's just make up man. He you know he was
- 54:32Speaker 1: a stand up comedian. Didn't want to hurt his brand,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, but kill you know, just
- 54:38Speaker 1: seeing you. I'll first of all, take now, I bet
- 54:41Speaker 1: he want to kiss me. Now come on, hey, hey,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I'm telling me right now voluxtuous the word for luxuous.
