- 0:00Mark chapter 10 Getting up. He went from there to the region
- 0:05of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Crowds gathered around him
- 0:08again, and according to his custom, he wants more, began to
- 0:12teach them. Some Pharisees came up to Jesus
- 0:15testing him, began to question him whether it was lawful for a
- 0:19man to divorce a wife. And he answered and said to
- 0:22them, What did Moses command you?
- 0:24They said Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of
- 0:28divorce and send her away. But Jesus said to them, Because
- 0:32of your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment.
- 0:34For from the beginning of creation God made them male and
- 0:37female. For this reason a man shall
- 0:39leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh.
- 0:43So they are no longer 2, but one flesh.
- 0:46What Therefore God has joined together.
- 0:48Let no man separate in the house.
- 0:51The disciples began questioning him about this again.
- 0:54And he said to them, Whoever divorces his wife and marries
- 0:57another woman commits adultery against her, and if she herself
- 1:01divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing
- 1:04adultery. And they were bringing children
- 1:06to him so that he might touch them.
- 1:08But the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw this, he was
- 1:11indignant and said to them, Permit the children to come to
- 1:14me, do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such
- 1:18as these. Truly, I say to you, whoever
- 1:21does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter
- 1:24it at all. And he took them in his arms and
- 1:27began blessing them, laying his hands on them.
- 1:30As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to him and
- 1:32knelt before him and asked him, Good teacher, what shall I do to
- 1:36inherit eternal life? And Jesus said to him, Why do
- 1:40you call me good? No one is good except God alone.
- 1:44You know the commandments. Do not murder, do not commit
- 1:47adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not
- 1:51defraud. Honor your father and mother.
- 1:54And he said to him, Teacher, I have kept all these things from
- 1:57my youth up. Looking at him, Jesus felt a
- 2:00love for him, and said to him, One thing you lack, go and sell
- 2:04all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure
- 2:07in heaven, and come follow me. But at these words he was
- 2:11saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who
- 2:15owned much property. And Jesus looking around said to
- 2:18his disciples, How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to
- 2:21enter the Kingdom of God. The disciples were amazed at his
- 2:25words. But Jesus answered again and
- 2:27said to them, children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of
- 2:30God? It is easier for a camel to go
- 2:33through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the
- 2:35Kingdom of God. They were even more astonished
- 2:38and said to him, Then who can be saved?
- 2:41Looking at them, Jesus said, with people it is impossible,
- 2:45but not with God, for all things are possible with God.
- 2:49Peter began to say to him, Behold, we have left everything
- 2:52and followed you. Jesus said, truly, I say to you,
- 2:56there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or
- 2:59mother or father or children or farms for my sake and for the
- 3:02gospel's sake, but that he will receive 100 times as much.
- 3:06Now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and
- 3:09mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions and in
- 3:13the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be
- 3:18last, and the last first. They were on the road going up
- 3:21to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them, and
- 3:25they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful.
- 3:28And again he took the 12 aside and began to tell them what was
- 3:30going to happen to him, saying, Behold, we are going up to
- 3:33Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be
- 3:35delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will
- 3:38condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles.
- 3:41They will mock him and spit on him and scourge him and kill
- 3:44him. And three days later he will
- 3:46rise again. James and John, the two sons of
- 3:49Zebedee, came up to Jesus saying, Teacher, we want you to
- 3:52do for us whatever we ask of you.
- 3:54And he said to them, What do you want me to do for you?
- 3:57They said to him, Grant that we may sit one on your right and
- 4:01one on your left in your glory. But Jesus said to them, you do
- 4:05not know what you're asking. Are you able to drink the cup
- 4:08that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I'm
- 4:11baptized? They said to him, We are able.
- 4:14And Jesus said to them, The cup that I drink, you shall drink,
- 4:18and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am
- 4:20baptized. But to sit on my right or on my
- 4:23left, this is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it
- 4:27has been prepared. Hearing this, the 10 began to
- 4:30feel indignant, with James and John calling them to himself.
- 4:33Jesus said to them, You know that those who are recognized as
- 4:36rulers of the Gentiles Lord it over them, and their great men
- 4:39exercise authority over them. But it is not this way among
- 4:43you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be
- 4:46your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be
- 4:49slave of all. For even the son of man did not
- 4:53come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom
- 4:57for many. Then they came to Jericho.
- 5:00And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples, in a large
- 5:03crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus,
- 5:08was sitting by the road. When he heard that it was Jesus
- 5:11the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, Jesus, son of
- 5:14David, have mercy on me. Many were sternly telling him to
- 5:18be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more.
- 5:22Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stopped and said, Call
- 5:26him here. So they called the blind man,
- 5:28saying to him, Take courage, stand up, he is calling for you.
- 5:32Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus.
- 5:36And answering him, Jesus said, What do you want me to do for
- 5:38you? And the blind man said to him,
- 5:40Rabboni, I want to regain my sight.
- 5:43And Jesus said to him, Go, your faith has made you well.
- 5:47Immediately he regained his sight and began following him on
- 5:51the road.
