- 3:07Speaker 1: every week since since it was released twenty weeks ago.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Please working the money making conversation for the verse first
- 3:13Speaker 1: time and not the last time. C C One, Hello, Hello, Shot,
- 3:20Speaker 1: how are you well? Fantastic? You know I gotta share
- 3:24Speaker 1: a little story. I did it all fair. I gotta
- 3:25Speaker 1: bring it on camera here about. You know, I do
- 3:28Speaker 1: a newsletter with money making conversations. We do it every week.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Uh Dale. He handled my my creative and I walked in.
- 3:36Speaker 1: This officer said, I just ran across this video of
- 3:38Speaker 1: c C one and she looked amazing. I said, I
- 3:41Speaker 1: gotta drop this in my newsletter. This song's amazing, and
- 3:45Speaker 1: my newsletter goes out to like two HUDs thousand people,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and I had to drop it there. You know, it
- 3:52Speaker 1: was it was like it was like when I saw it,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, it was like a blessing to me because
- 3:57Speaker 1: it made me feel good. And it also made made
- 4:00Speaker 1: me feel that the relevancy of who you are as
- 4:03Speaker 1: a as a person who still delivers a powerful message,
- 4:06Speaker 1: a person who still has the gift that God gave
- 4:09Speaker 1: you the scene and to inspire. So when when when
- 4:12Speaker 1: a person like me who just you know, just walking
- 4:15Speaker 1: down the street. Now you're kind of like walking down
- 4:17Speaker 1: the street and you see a beautiful car go by,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you see it an amazing building, you see this beautiful tree.
- 4:23Speaker 1: That's what it was to me when I came across
- 4:25Speaker 1: your video on my feet. Talk about that that ability
- 4:29Speaker 1: to that God has given you to make those type
- 4:33Speaker 1: of responses or reaction from people like me. M hm wow,
- 4:38Speaker 1: well that is such a blessing. First of all, thank
- 4:40Speaker 1: you so much. It's amazing that, um, the power of
- 4:44Speaker 1: you pushing the button, how many people you reached, that's
- 4:47Speaker 1: just overwhelming to me. And so thank you so much
- 4:51Speaker 1: for sharing, um, the good news. You know, I am.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm blessed to be able to give good news. And
- 4:59Speaker 1: I don't take it leave the the position that God
- 5:04Speaker 1: has given me, the influence that he's allowed me to have,
- 5:07Speaker 1: the people's lives. Um, it's it's important that it is
- 5:12Speaker 1: something that will always uplift people and never bring him down,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you know. And now I want to say that let's
- 5:18Speaker 1: stay right there on their uplift part. Because you did
- 5:21Speaker 1: a concert on TBN. It was March twenty six is
- 5:24Speaker 1: bleeve bleeve Ford concert going to it was and it
- 5:28Speaker 1: was beautiful and at two point five minutes, so beautiful,
- 5:31Speaker 1: two point five million people. So I thought it woul
- 5:33Speaker 1: beautiful too. Okay, let's go and say boy, let's just
- 5:35Speaker 1: reach on McDonald. It was two point five million people
- 5:38Speaker 1: watch this, okay, and it was o t b N.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But you know me, Stecy, I always like to just
- 5:43Speaker 1: go deeper into what I the people, and I went
- 5:46Speaker 1: to the comments section, and I want to just grab
- 5:49Speaker 1: three comments that came out of this and and and
- 5:52Speaker 1: I want to talk about them because one was from
- 5:55Speaker 1: this young ladies. Just your music saved my life after
- 5:58Speaker 1: my mom passed away. I had a bad depression. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: locked myself in my room listen to your albums over
- 6:04Speaker 1: and over and it brought me out. Thank you, miss c.
- 6:07Speaker 1: C Wines. Another one was I too lost my daughter
- 6:12Speaker 1: last year, reacting to the earlier coming. I just read
- 6:15Speaker 1: CC's music has been such a calm and effect on me.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I wasn't even looking for this album believe for it,
- 6:22Speaker 1: believe for it, but I guess God knew I needed it,
- 6:25Speaker 1: so Holy Spirit lead me to it. So I listened
- 6:28Speaker 1: to it, and I listened to it and I listened
- 6:30Speaker 1: to it. Thank you, Father for using CC to bring
- 6:32Speaker 1: your message to so many people. I appreciate you, Lord God.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And then the last one was CC, God richly blessed you.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I was so depressed, but after worshiping wish you listening
- 6:45Speaker 1: to your music, I was lifted. I have tears in
- 6:48Speaker 1: my eyes as I write this. Anytime I listened to
- 6:50Speaker 1: your songs. They're so uplifting and they're such a blessing,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know. Not trying to bring this interview down, not
- 6:57Speaker 1: trying to get churchy, but when I read stuff like that,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I gotta bring it to your attention because sometimes I
- 7:02Speaker 1: would tell people like you, you're grinders. You know what
- 7:04Speaker 1: I'm saying. And sometimes you can just go, that's what
- 7:06Speaker 1: you know, That's what's what I do. But you also
- 7:08Speaker 1: need to know what you do. You you're singing your heart,
- 7:12Speaker 1: your your blessings. How they affect people. When I read
- 7:15Speaker 1: something like that, knowing that you are tied to the
- 7:18Speaker 1: church founded a church in Nashville. Talked to my artists
- 7:21Speaker 1: for a minute about that. Um well, first of all,
- 7:25Speaker 1: it makes me want to cry. It brings tears to
- 7:28Speaker 1: my eyes. Um, you know for sure when I was
- 7:35Speaker 1: let me see, I was probably about seventeen years old
- 7:38Speaker 1: when BB and I started singing, and um, well, no,
- 7:42Speaker 1: I was older than that. I was older that we
- 7:44Speaker 1: started it on the TV show years ago, and starting
- 7:48Speaker 1: out that young as a teenager, um, seventeen, eighteen years old,
- 7:54Speaker 1: nineteen years old, you get a lot of male from
- 7:57Speaker 1: young people. And I realized at that time because I
- 8:02Speaker 1: received a piece of male from a young lady back then,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and she was telling me how she was listening to
- 8:10Speaker 1: the radio and how our song came on the radio
- 8:13Speaker 1: and how she was contemplating suicide and after hearing our songs,
- 8:19Speaker 1: she decided to give life another try. Um, that hit
- 8:24Speaker 1: me so hard that I would never forget it. I
- 8:30Speaker 1: realized then that my music was not about just entertainment. Yes,
- 8:37Speaker 1: we want people to enjoy it. We want them to
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, get excited about it, laugh, dance, enjoy it
- 8:45Speaker 1: with with their their their families and all of that
- 8:48Speaker 1: come to the concerts. But I realized that the power
- 8:52Speaker 1: of music, it's powerful enough to really impact people in
- 8:57Speaker 1: such a way that it's it's literally like or death.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And so as a as a as a young person,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I had to rethink what God was sending me to do.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And and so reading those comments and hearing those comments
- 9:13Speaker 1: today that you just shared with me, Um, it just
- 9:16Speaker 1: reinforces the power of music. It's powerful when it's positive,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and it's powerful when it's negative, you know. Um. But
- 9:26Speaker 1: but singing the gospel, singing the scripture, singing the word,
- 9:33Speaker 1: it actually gives life, you know. And so I am
- 9:36Speaker 1: honored I'm privileged to be able to sing gospel music,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and I'm humbled that God would use a young lady
- 9:44Speaker 1: from Detroit, Michigan, you know, um to touch people in
- 9:49Speaker 1: such a way that it literally saves their lives. And
- 9:53Speaker 1: so I am speechless. Thank you so much for sharing,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and for those who wrote in, thank you so much
- 10:00Speaker 1: for sharing your testimony, because, um, it's life changing for me.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It's why we do what we do. Uh. The awards
- 10:09Speaker 1: are great, you know when you're introducing me all the
- 10:13Speaker 1: the different things that we've won over the years, I'm
- 10:16Speaker 1: so humbled by it, but that's not why we do
- 10:19Speaker 1: what we do. We do what we do to hear
- 10:21Speaker 1: those testimonies that you just share, well, you know, thank you.
- 10:25Speaker 1: You know that's why I wanted to share them with you.
- 10:27Speaker 1: You know, I could say when I do interviews, I
- 10:29Speaker 1: try to like take the perspective of why I'm talking
- 10:31Speaker 1: to you. I'm talking to you kind of admiration. I
- 10:34Speaker 1: feel blessed that I have this conversation to share with
- 10:36Speaker 1: my audience and money making conversations. CC Windings is coming
- 10:38Speaker 1: on my show, What We're Gonna talk About, What We're
- 10:40Speaker 1: gonna talk about this album, But we need to talk
- 10:42Speaker 1: about how you are, like they say, you're you're very
- 10:47Speaker 1: aware of the times of communications and and that's what
- 10:50Speaker 1: you said, Rashan, just clicking a button. I sent your
- 10:53Speaker 1: video out to two union thousand people. Not clicking another
- 10:56Speaker 1: button on Mother's Day. You started a podcast and it's
- 11:00Speaker 1: all Generations. And that's why I love about you, because
- 11:04Speaker 1: some people can get stuck in their ways. Well this
- 11:06Speaker 1: works for me, you know, and I'm cool with it.
- 11:09Speaker 1: But when you realize you are an international talent, Okay,
- 11:12Speaker 1: it's gonna be real, nass C. You are an international
- 11:15Speaker 1: talent that broadcast allows you to personalize your message but
- 11:20Speaker 1: also reach people in the South Africa and Brazil and
- 11:24Speaker 1: Jamaica and Russia and the Germany and England. Talk about
- 11:29Speaker 1: why you started Generations and the and why you started
- 11:33Speaker 1: on Mother's Day and uh, let's continue this conversation. Great, great,
- 11:37Speaker 1: thank you so much for bringing that up. Even what
- 11:40Speaker 1: you're saying as far as embracing the times, embracing the
- 11:44Speaker 1: new way of doing things, it's not easy because you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I've been out here doing this along and uh, the
- 11:50Speaker 1: industry has changed drastically from the time that you know,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I started and now um, and so getting used to
- 11:58Speaker 1: the all the the Instagrams and the facebooks and everything
- 12:03Speaker 1: that's happening now the podcast it's just um, it can
- 12:07Speaker 1: be overwhelming. But you have to be willing to embrace change.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You have to be willing to to do the new,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you know, because what God has given me. Um, I
- 12:19Speaker 1: have the responsibility of stewarding it will you know, and um,
- 12:24Speaker 1: it's it's it brings challenges, but we all have to
- 12:27Speaker 1: be willing. If you're want to grow, you have to
- 12:30Speaker 1: be willing to embrace challenging times, you know, and challenges
- 12:33Speaker 1: that's how we grow. And so but but but generations. Ah,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I've been wanting to start a rather it's a conference
- 12:45Speaker 1: or ministry for for everybody, but especially women, UM of
- 12:50Speaker 1: different ages you know. Um. Like I said, when I
- 12:54Speaker 1: started out, I was about oh, singing professionally, maybe about
- 12:58Speaker 1: sixteen years old. I'm fifty six now, soon to be
- 13:02Speaker 1: fifty seven, and my mom is still with me, who's
- 13:06Speaker 1: an amazing woman of God. And a lot of times
- 13:08Speaker 1: we live in this culture that we as we get older,
- 13:12Speaker 1: people seem to think you lose your value. But I
- 13:15Speaker 1: I believe that you become more valuable the older you get, um.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And my mom is still with me, and she's eighty
- 13:21Speaker 1: four years old, soon to be eighty five. And I
- 13:25Speaker 1: wanted to make sure, you know, because so many times
- 13:27Speaker 1: we sit back and after someone's gone, we wish we
- 13:30Speaker 1: would have done this, We wish we would have done that.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And I want to encourage everybody who's hearing me today,
- 13:35Speaker 1: move on what God has put in your heart. Stop
- 13:39Speaker 1: waiting for the perfect time, because the perfect time is now.
- 13:42Speaker 1: You know. It's never a perfect time to do, to do,
- 13:46Speaker 1: to step out and to do the new, you know.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And so coming together, it was important to bring my
- 13:53Speaker 1: mom and now to bring my daughter, who's a new mom,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and so that we could understand the the power of generations,
- 14:02Speaker 1: the power of love, the power of family, the power
- 14:05Speaker 1: of God's faithfulness to every generation. And also to find
- 14:09Speaker 1: out and to learn, you know, I I am who
- 14:13Speaker 1: I am today because I had a mother who took
- 14:16Speaker 1: out time to pour into me. Yes, um, and we
- 14:20Speaker 1: have to take out time to pour into the younger generation.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I'm here to pour into my daughter because your prayer
- 14:27Speaker 1: for your children is that they will do better than
- 14:29Speaker 1: what you've done. Absolutely yeah, And that's really important that
- 14:34Speaker 1: you say that, because it's not about paying it for
- 14:37Speaker 1: It's just that you know, I was I have a daughter.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I've been blessed, married thirty three years. So you got
- 14:41Speaker 1: me by four he got me about four years. Okay, okay,
- 14:46Speaker 1: so and you know those those years they have challenges
- 14:49Speaker 1: because nothing's ever ye. But it's about communication. It's about
- 14:53Speaker 1: communication when you look at it, and when you say
- 14:56Speaker 1: when you talk about change, I remember when I was
- 14:58Speaker 1: managing Steve Harvey. You know we had this uh I
- 15:00Speaker 1: was resisting the Twitter and the social media because we
- 15:04Speaker 1: had a radio for Man that was syndicated. We had
- 15:07Speaker 1: a fan club or like a million fan club subscribers,
- 15:11Speaker 1: Like go, why do I need this new technology? Because
- 15:14Speaker 1: you need it because you have to be able to
- 15:16Speaker 1: be topical, you have to be relevant. You have to
- 15:18Speaker 1: be able to understand how people are communicating, not saying
- 15:21Speaker 1: what you're doing and you shouldn't stop what you're doing.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Like and I still have a newsletter, but I also
- 15:25Speaker 1: have social media, also have well, I also have podcasts.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I also do things on YouTube. All these things have
- 15:32Speaker 1: value and all these things can bring in revenue. Now
- 15:35Speaker 1: in your whole world that you have created, you know,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and these blessings that you received and been recognized for
- 15:42Speaker 1: leave for it is your first live recorded album. Now,
- 15:46Speaker 1: let's let's walk through this because I'll just go back
- 15:49Speaker 1: to your CEA. You know, I'm like, you know Marvin
- 15:51Speaker 1: Gay live, you know Frankie Beverly Amazed live and do
- 15:55Speaker 1: all this. You know, I'm that type of live you
- 15:58Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Yeah, it's and then but here
- 16:01Speaker 1: in your life, you know, it was a different lie.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I wasn't trying to party. I was just sitting there
- 16:06Speaker 1: being inspired and being able to think about myself in
- 16:09Speaker 1: a positive way. And so why did you wait this
- 16:13Speaker 1: long for your first live recording? And what did you
- 16:17Speaker 1: get out of What was you received out of a
- 16:19Speaker 1: CC when you when you when you brought everybody together
- 16:23Speaker 1: and then they went it's a rap. I love that question. Well,
- 16:30Speaker 1: first of all, I don't have a good answer for
- 16:33Speaker 1: you why I waited so long because I love the
- 16:37Speaker 1: experience of life worship life concerts. We've toured for years
- 16:42Speaker 1: and there's nothing like it, you know. But also I
- 16:46Speaker 1: guess for me, in the studio, when you do a
- 16:48Speaker 1: recording in the studio, you're able to kind of listen
- 16:50Speaker 1: to it, tweak it, fix this, make sure you know.
- 16:55Speaker 1: So that's the value to me and doing in the studio.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But I think we just got this with life and
- 17:00Speaker 1: never took out the time to record a live record.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I've done live videos but never released the record that
- 17:07Speaker 1: was live. And again, I just don't have a good answer.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I just didn't take out the time. But but this
- 17:15Speaker 1: was the time. Um, And now that I look back,
- 17:19Speaker 1: I see it was really the time because we had
- 17:22Speaker 1: planned it before the pandemic happened, and when the pandemic happened, Um,
- 17:28Speaker 1: we had to cancel everything because your first live record,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you know, we were we were having it at a
- 17:34Speaker 1: place where we wanted about four or five thousand people,
- 17:37Speaker 1: and so that wasn't gonna work. And so now I'm
- 17:41Speaker 1: looking at doing my first live record with no people,
- 17:48Speaker 1: right right. So so we canceled it, Richard, and then
- 17:56Speaker 1: we uh later on towards the end of the year,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I felt like it was time. It's like we have
- 18:03Speaker 1: to release this. And probably even more so because of
- 18:07Speaker 1: the pandemic. A lot of people were isolated, a lot
- 18:11Speaker 1: of people didn't have family members. You just said, how
- 18:13Speaker 1: you've been married thirty three years. I've been married almost
- 18:16Speaker 1: well thirty seven years and uh um, but a lot
- 18:20Speaker 1: of people didn't have family, you know, a lot of
- 18:23Speaker 1: people were hurting, a lot of people lost family. And
- 18:25Speaker 1: so I felt like this record was something that was
- 18:28Speaker 1: really needed to create a live experience where people, I mean,
- 18:32Speaker 1: churches were closed down. A lot of people couldn't go
- 18:34Speaker 1: to church, you know, and um, that's rough you used
- 18:38Speaker 1: to be in the in the sanctuary with more people
- 18:41Speaker 1: and worshiping together. That's a big uh gap in your
- 18:46Speaker 1: life when you can't have it. And so I felt
- 18:49Speaker 1: like this record was right on time to help people
- 18:54Speaker 1: right where they were, um, going through the pandemic and
- 18:59Speaker 1: understanding that God was with them, to let them know
- 19:02Speaker 1: that They're not forgotten, to let them know, you know,
- 19:07Speaker 1: don't give up, don't give in. Um, do the things
- 19:11Speaker 1: that we need to do to protect ourselves. But but
- 19:14Speaker 1: let's praise God through through the situations. And and so
- 19:19Speaker 1: after we finished this record, we had people praying. You know,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I think during that time you could have maybe fifty people.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And so I brought people in who I knew, knew
- 19:29Speaker 1: how to pray, and they pray. They prayed throughout that audience, UM,
- 19:35Speaker 1: and we had a great time. And after we were done,
- 19:39Speaker 1: I was like, Lord, I thank you for your love
- 19:42Speaker 1: because I felt the love of God in that room
- 19:45Speaker 1: and my prayers that it would be so strong that
- 19:48Speaker 1: when people heard it that they would feel it. That's
- 19:52Speaker 1: that's beautiful. You know. The fun point about it is
- 19:55Speaker 1: that you know, I'll tell you because just about being honest,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I'm not a daily church call, a weekly curve, you know.
- 20:01Speaker 1: But when I go to church, the people even understand
- 20:04Speaker 1: this is ro Sean talking. When I sit down on
- 20:07Speaker 1: that pew and somebody maybe to the left of me,
- 20:10Speaker 1: maybe to the right, because I always get on the end,
- 20:11Speaker 1: I was I like getting on the end. That's why
- 20:13Speaker 1: I said I'll sit on the end. I might be
- 20:15Speaker 1: on the end, on the left of the end, of
- 20:16Speaker 1: the right. That's that's why I sit. C I just
- 20:18Speaker 1: I get up and let him go past me. But
- 20:20Speaker 1: it's something about um being in the church that allows
- 20:26Speaker 1: you just to be in the church. It really is.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I don't think about my job, I don't think about
- 20:32Speaker 1: my problems, and what I do think about is what
- 20:37Speaker 1: I can do with my life and the people I
- 20:39Speaker 1: care about. And I also think about forgiving my enemies
- 20:43Speaker 1: because I I said prayer. I always pray for the
- 20:46Speaker 1: people I care about, and I also pray for the
- 20:48Speaker 1: people that are my enemies because they need to be
- 20:52Speaker 1: blessed for some reasons why they I don't know why
- 20:54Speaker 1: they're not my enemies, but they my enemies. But guess what,
- 20:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna still gonna give your blessing in my prayer.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And so being the person, you know, one of the
- 21:02Speaker 1: founding pastors of Nashville Life Church, I'm and hearing me
- 21:06Speaker 1: say this is is that? What is the what? What
- 21:10Speaker 1: is the goal? When you see a person like me
- 21:13Speaker 1: sitting there and you got the choir singing, you got
- 21:16Speaker 1: the the people who are a naunted preaching and serving
- 21:20Speaker 1: the word of God, what is that goal? The goal
- 21:25Speaker 1: is for you to have an encounter with ourt heavenly Father.
- 21:28Speaker 1: The goal is for you to just what you were saying,
- 21:31Speaker 1: for you to receive what you need. You know, we
- 21:35Speaker 1: all come in the church. The church is um it's
- 21:40Speaker 1: it's a spiritual hospital. We come in for healing. Some
- 21:46Speaker 1: of us need healing physically. Some of us need healing
- 21:49Speaker 1: from a broken heart, some of us need healing from
- 21:52Speaker 1: you know, the stress that we've been under. You want
- 21:55Speaker 1: to be refreshed, You want to be renewed, your mind
- 21:59Speaker 1: to be written. You want to be a place of
- 22:02Speaker 1: escape where you forget about your problems and you forget
- 22:05Speaker 1: about everything that you're going through, so that you can
- 22:08Speaker 1: receive the wisdom you need, the love you need, the
- 22:12Speaker 1: power you need. A lot of times you have to
- 22:14Speaker 1: be reminded of who you are. You know, so many
- 22:17Speaker 1: times we can focus on we don't have, we forget
- 22:20Speaker 1: the blessings that we already had. Um. And so it's
- 22:23Speaker 1: a great place to come to and, like you said,
- 22:26Speaker 1: so that you can learn to forgive, to forgive, because
- 22:29Speaker 1: a lot of times people are walking unforgiveness and they
- 22:33Speaker 1: think they're hurting the other person, but unforgiven, that's only
- 22:36Speaker 1: hurts you to bring. Yeah, it weighs you down, you know.
- 22:40Speaker 1: And so our goal is always for people to have
- 22:43Speaker 1: an encounter with Jesus, to have an encounter with the
- 22:45Speaker 1: love of God, because it's through that supernatural touch that
- 22:50Speaker 1: your life has changed. So when you go back out, um,
- 22:54Speaker 1: you'll go back out different and seeing things from a
- 22:57Speaker 1: different perspective. Well, I'm talking to CC Wine and Time
- 23:00Speaker 1: album Believe for it is uh is incredible. You should
- 23:06Speaker 1: like she said she was. She was wondering how to
- 23:08Speaker 1: record it because of COVID. She lost the four thousand
- 23:11Speaker 1: seat all the end, and she she broke like, I
- 23:13Speaker 1: love what she said. I brought fifty people in that
- 23:15Speaker 1: reshow who knew how to pray. You know, they knew
- 23:17Speaker 1: how to pray because you pitt to a real church.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You're sitting next to somebody who know how to pray.
- 23:22Speaker 1: You go, you got you whoever you're talking to, can
- 23:25Speaker 1: you let me talk to him too, because they praying
- 23:27Speaker 1: over there? Okay? Can I get in that conversation because
- 23:29Speaker 1: you got it all going on right there. But I
- 23:32Speaker 1: just want to talk before I let you go about
- 23:34Speaker 1: being a trail plazer, because you know, we sit up
- 23:36Speaker 1: here talking about not you know, resistant to change. But
- 23:40Speaker 1: in eighteen eighty nine, you launched the Pure Springs Gospel
- 23:44Speaker 1: record label. Okay, now see that's why I gotta bring
- 23:47Speaker 1: up See. I love talking to people like CC because
- 23:49Speaker 1: they act like they well, you know, I don't like change, Rishwan,
- 23:53Speaker 1: but sitting right out there doing change, making change when
- 23:56Speaker 1: everybody's going, why are you doing that? Girl? Just go
- 23:59Speaker 1: sign that label over that with that record, get that check,
- 24:02Speaker 1: do your own time. You're doing too much work. But
- 24:04Speaker 1: in the and that that didn't work for you, tell
- 24:07Speaker 1: us about that as an entrepreneur, Well, you know when
- 24:11Speaker 1: you you know you when I began in this business again,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you're you're young, and you're just excited about doing what
- 24:18Speaker 1: you do as far as the gift of singing. But
- 24:20Speaker 1: you you find out early on that it's a business.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You know that the record business is a business, and
- 24:29Speaker 1: and you go through a few things that you recognize, Oh,
- 24:33Speaker 1: this is the way it works, this is what makes sense.
- 24:35Speaker 1: You know, you're spending your your time, you're giving everything
- 24:39Speaker 1: you have. You want to have something to show for it.
- 24:42Speaker 1: You know, you want to be you want to be
- 24:44Speaker 1: a wise steward over what God has given you. And
- 24:47Speaker 1: so I had wonderful people around me to let me
- 24:50Speaker 1: know you could do it. That that encouraged me because
- 24:53Speaker 1: a lot of times we look at things for chard
- 24:55Speaker 1: and we think that it's it's too hard, it's something
- 24:58Speaker 1: that we can't do. It's not that people don't want
- 25:01Speaker 1: to do it all the time. A lot of times
- 25:02Speaker 1: they feel like they're um, you know, don't have what
- 25:06Speaker 1: it takes. But but everybody can learn. You know, you
- 25:09Speaker 1: have to be patient and you have to ask questions.
- 25:12Speaker 1: And so we were able to do that and start
- 25:15Speaker 1: our own label years ago, and I'm so glad I
- 25:19Speaker 1: made a major difference in what I was seeing before
- 25:24Speaker 1: from my labor um and what I was seeing afterwards.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And and so I started educating people and telling people
- 25:32Speaker 1: that yeah, if I, if I did it, you can
- 25:34Speaker 1: do it too. You can do it too. And a
- 25:37Speaker 1: lot of my friends embrace that, you know, in the
- 25:40Speaker 1: industry and started thinking from the entrepreneur side opposed to
- 25:48Speaker 1: UM just being an office, you know, to understanding the
- 25:51Speaker 1: importance of of owning and the importance of being in charge,
- 25:55Speaker 1: the importance of because that's another thing, especially as a
- 25:58Speaker 1: gospel artist, you want to make sure that when you
- 26:01Speaker 1: talk about your brand that you're having the last say so,
- 26:06Speaker 1: because it's not about me. I represent the Father. I
- 26:09Speaker 1: represent Um, the one who created all things and who
- 26:13Speaker 1: gave us this gift. And and my my aim when
- 26:16Speaker 1: we were talking about the goal even in churches, that
- 26:19Speaker 1: people will have an encounter with Jesus, that they will
- 26:23Speaker 1: receive Um supernatural peace and hope and and all of
- 26:28Speaker 1: those good things that God brings and so it's so
- 26:30Speaker 1: important to protect your brand UM. When it comes to
- 26:33Speaker 1: that as well, you have to go you have to
- 26:35Speaker 1: go above and be I, you know, because it's not
- 26:39Speaker 1: about me, but it's about the people that we serve
- 26:42Speaker 1: that they will be touched with UM in the right way.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And so yeah, being an entrepreneur, yeah you have to
- 26:49Speaker 1: be more into the details. But it's it's it's so
- 26:53Speaker 1: worth it in so many ways. And I want to
- 26:56Speaker 1: encourage people to to think differently, to understand saying that
- 27:00Speaker 1: you can be a business owner, you you want to
- 27:05Speaker 1: be involved in and and what's happening not just in
- 27:09Speaker 1: your life, but all the opportunities that are out here.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Even during this pandemic, even though a lot of things
- 27:15Speaker 1: closed down, a lot of things opened up, you know.
- 27:18Speaker 1: And again it's how do you look at it? Do
- 27:20Speaker 1: you look at it as oh no, or do you
- 27:23Speaker 1: look at it this could this be an opportunity? Is this?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Is there an opportunity here for me? And praying and
- 27:29Speaker 1: asking God, you know, Lord you've given me gifts. We
- 27:32Speaker 1: all have individual gifts and very unique gifts and and
- 27:37Speaker 1: and if you pray and ask the Lord to show you,
- 27:40Speaker 1: he will He'll show you and before you know it,
- 27:43Speaker 1: you'll be operating in a in a whole different way
- 27:47Speaker 1: and your whole life will be affected by it. Wow.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Like I said earlier, there's no stopping c C. Why

- 28:05Speaker 1: a bulb changed my life. Like I said, you know
- 28:07Speaker 1: the pandemic, I'll watching Netflix, Amazon. Then it came across
- 28:11Speaker 1: the stream. I saw her live. I said, whoa c
- 28:15Speaker 1: C back lord a mercy. I gotta spread the word.

- 30:40Speaker 1: down with my man Todd de Lady at the age
- 30:42Speaker 1: of eighteen. He was focusing on pursuing his baseball career
- 30:46Speaker 1: and was drafted by the New York Mets. During his pursuit,
- 30:49Speaker 1: he realized there was a higher call it on his
- 30:51Speaker 1: life and left the world's force to pursue a career
- 30:54Speaker 1: as a gospel recording orders. He is revered as one
- 30:57Speaker 1: of the influencers of the next generation of God's for music.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Here's what Todd Delaney had to say the crazy thing
- 31:03Speaker 1: about so how much we put so much emphasis on
- 31:05Speaker 1: sports in America, Like it, if you make it to
- 31:08Speaker 1: the top of the sports, they think that's the greatest thing.
- 31:10Speaker 1: But for me, impact, impact was the was the greatest thing.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I said, Man, how can I impact world? Don't ever
- 31:16Speaker 1: chase the dollar? You know what I'm saying that it's
- 31:18Speaker 1: not that it's not the dollar, chase the impact. How
- 31:20Speaker 1: can you make an impact on other people's lives and
- 31:22Speaker 1: the money will chase you? And so I'm in a
- 31:24Speaker 1: really beautiful place right now if you were to listen
- 31:27Speaker 1: to this. Full interview with Todd Delaney is available on

- 32:51Speaker 1: Somebody that came into my life via a newspaper article
- 32:55Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen, Patricia Williams a k mis pad How
- 32:59Speaker 1: you doing, How are you doing? Thank you for having me? Well?
- 33:02Speaker 1: First of all, did I said enough about you? Or
- 33:04Speaker 1: or do it? Couldn't I say? Some moments back on that,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I think you said enough about Well. First of all,
- 33:10Speaker 1: let's get started about why stand up? Why are your
- 33:13Speaker 1: stand up comedian? Um? I know I thought I was funny.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I never wanted to be a stand up comedian. Uh,
- 33:21Speaker 1: people just in my neighborhood and then my life was like,
- 33:24Speaker 1: you know, you really should push you should really think
- 33:26Speaker 1: about a comedian. A trip for the welfare owners and
- 33:30Speaker 1: it was like you, you know, we had to pick career.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I never forget Bill Clinton was a president and that
- 33:34Speaker 1: was the first person I voted for. He started a
- 33:37Speaker 1: welfare of work program, so I was trying to get
- 33:39Speaker 1: a career. No more watched the younger arrests, which pisces
- 33:44Speaker 1: me out because I was like, I don't even gonna
- 33:46Speaker 1: make me get a hand on the young and arrests.
- 33:48Speaker 1: We'll make a long story show. A case work was like,
- 33:50Speaker 1: you should really, you know, looking to stand up. You're
- 33:53Speaker 1: so funny, and I'm like, I know I want to
- 33:55Speaker 1: be a nurse. He's like, no, you should be. You
- 33:57Speaker 1: should looking to stand up and then I realized I'm
- 34:00Speaker 1: convicted felon and nobody was gonna ever give me a
- 34:02Speaker 1: job as a nurse. I just decided it just started.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I went to an open mic. Uh huh, Well, you
- 34:08Speaker 1: know I'm being a former comedian. I guess I can
- 34:10Speaker 1: always say I'm a comedian. Okay, I've done enough in
- 34:13Speaker 1: my life, from STEPH Comedy Jam to BT Comic view
- 34:17Speaker 1: that open mic, just walking on that stage the very
- 34:19Speaker 1: first time, because you because like you, people told me
- 34:22Speaker 1: I was funny. And then I had to be convinced
- 34:25Speaker 1: by my sister and Hunt and my nephew. I would
- 34:27Speaker 1: do comedy routines in front of them on their in
- 34:29Speaker 1: their living room, and they said, that's funny, that's funny.
- 34:32Speaker 1: You should do that. You do that. How did you
- 34:34Speaker 1: put together your first five minutes to go on stage? Ms? Pat?
- 34:38Speaker 1: I went to this place that was near my house
- 34:40Speaker 1: called the Pub, and it was just a bunch of
- 34:43Speaker 1: open Michaels and I didn't I didn't even know you're
- 34:45Speaker 1: supposed to put together anything. My literally, my first joke
- 34:49Speaker 1: was about my brother being a fat cat burgler. So
- 34:51Speaker 1: I just went and I just went and told a
- 34:53Speaker 1: story that I was familiar with, and I went there
- 34:56Speaker 1: and they laughed, and I was like, I went home
- 34:59Speaker 1: and I told my was a a gonna say, guess I'm
- 35:01Speaker 1: a comedian. He's gonna work tomorrow. Now. When when when
- 35:07Speaker 1: year was that? When we year were there when you
- 35:09Speaker 1: walked on stage. I think it was early two thousand,
- 35:13Speaker 1: two thousand one, something like that. Well, we know, we
- 35:16Speaker 1: all have dreams. I know when I started doing stand up,
- 35:18Speaker 1: Eddie Murphy was the talk of the land. Richard Pryor
- 35:20Speaker 1: was the king of comedy. And then as you see
- 35:23Speaker 1: the evolved. You know when I managed Steve Harvey and
- 35:27Speaker 1: two thousand the original kings of comedy came out and
- 35:29Speaker 1: burning back to hit the streets and lu hit the
- 35:32Speaker 1: street said came became a super Bowl commercial star, and
- 35:35Speaker 1: Steve Harvey became a radio star, and it was a
- 35:38Speaker 1: television star at the time on w B. What influences
- 35:41Speaker 1: did you have this pat the story, Like you said,
- 35:44Speaker 1: you know you still a naturally talent person. Did anybody
- 35:47Speaker 1: influence you as a comedian or an actress or a singer. No,
- 35:51Speaker 1: I didn't know anything about coming honestly, Um, I thought
- 35:55Speaker 1: Richard Pryor was just you know, actor, so I didn't.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I didn't really into a comedy. And when I started
- 36:02Speaker 1: to open mic, and people will say, you got these
- 36:04Speaker 1: crazy stories, and you you remind me of Richard Pryor.
- 36:08Speaker 1: You don't like he's an actor, and he's like he
- 36:10Speaker 1: was a comedient. So I just started to do my
- 36:12Speaker 1: research and I was like, I am a storyteller. So
- 36:14Speaker 1: I got heavily into watching Bill Cosb because he's a
- 36:18Speaker 1: great season's great storyteller. And I got into Richard Pryor,
- 36:23Speaker 1: and I realized that my stories were more like rich Richard,
- 36:28Speaker 1: you know, in your face, honestly, honest, and I like
- 36:31Speaker 1: to put them together the way Bill Cosby because they
- 36:34Speaker 1: were so great at storyteller. So those two is kind
- 36:37Speaker 1: of my biggest influence, you know, when I really dug
- 36:40Speaker 1: into I wanted to be a comedian. Well, it's interesting
- 36:43Speaker 1: you say that, because, uh, you know, when I see
- 36:48Speaker 1: your stand up, it just it is the storytelling, but
- 36:52Speaker 1: it's the rawness of red Fox. Did I see and
- 36:57Speaker 1: in you? And I see it because of the fact
- 37:00Speaker 1: and you're just talking, you know what I'm saying, and
- 37:03Speaker 1: and I think that you know, he didn't hear me
- 37:06Speaker 1: out on this because it's a compliment about you and
- 37:08Speaker 1: your talents, and it's that there's a filter and I
- 37:12Speaker 1: don't think you have with Okay, you don't have it.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You know, she don't have a filter, this woman. I'm
- 37:21Speaker 1: talking to you right here. If it's if it's, if
- 37:22Speaker 1: it's in front of her head, it's gonna come out
- 37:25Speaker 1: of her mouth. Okay. And that's a beauty because that's
- 37:28Speaker 1: why she's on this show. That's why she's a show
- 37:30Speaker 1: and BT, that's why she's a successful stand up comedian.
- 37:32Speaker 1: That's why she goes on her name appears on the
- 37:35Speaker 1: Billboard and add her shows sell out. That's gonna be
- 37:37Speaker 1: honest about that. So now Red Fox, which was my
- 37:42Speaker 1: era growing up because he was an influence, but he
- 37:45Speaker 1: wasn't you know what. Like I said, I was influenced
- 37:46Speaker 1: by you know, I knew about Bill Cobby. I was
- 37:49Speaker 1: like over just in awe of Richard Pryor. But you
- 37:56Speaker 1: when I see Red Fox, I see this uncanny ability
- 37:59Speaker 1: to stay treat and then but relatable because it's about
- 38:03Speaker 1: your personal life. Am I am? I hitting it right
- 38:07Speaker 1: for you, miss pat because you didn't mention Red Fox.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Uh No, I think I didn't mention Red Fox because
- 38:15Speaker 1: I didn't fall a lot of this comedy. You know,
- 38:17Speaker 1: I just know Red Fox really from San Francis Son,
- 38:20Speaker 1: but I know how funny he was. But I was
- 38:22Speaker 1: able to find a lot more Richard prior material when
- 38:26Speaker 1: I first started, and that was made me. I really
- 38:30Speaker 1: wanted to tell stories Richard. I've heard, I've heard Richard,
- 38:35Speaker 1: I've heard Red Fox before. I mean, it's either either
- 38:39Speaker 1: I get Richard, Burning Matt or Red Fox. That's who
- 38:42Speaker 1: people come up and tell me. Well, I'm telling all
- 38:44Speaker 1: that's complimentary, Okay, when you talk about what you're trying
- 38:47Speaker 1: to do, because you know, like you said, you didn't
- 38:49Speaker 1: really have any history or anyone want to be a
- 38:51Speaker 1: stand up comedian on actress for that matter. You know,
- 38:54Speaker 1: you're just a person who unfortunately was a fella has
- 38:57Speaker 1: spent You had had jail time, like no offerm than
- 39:00Speaker 1: comedian Tim Allen who hosted Home Improvement. He had jailed.
- 39:04Speaker 1: He spent significant jail time, and it also came over
- 39:07Speaker 1: and became a hit sitcom star. And the fact that
- 39:10Speaker 1: you say Sanford in sign I was telling to my
- 39:12Speaker 1: staff today when I came into myself. So I saw
- 39:14Speaker 1: four episodes of this show, and I said, it's very
- 39:17Speaker 1: groundbreaking to me. I said, I haven't seen a show,
- 39:20Speaker 1: especially a black show. There was this authentic sense Sanford
- 39:24Speaker 1: in sign and Sanford the sign. Reason I said, that's
- 39:26Speaker 1: after the Sun at the time would actually say the
- 39:29Speaker 1: N word on network television, and and and and because
- 39:32Speaker 1: that was that was rare. We're gonna keep it real
- 39:35Speaker 1: if you if you use it in the camera, you're
- 39:37Speaker 1: gonna use a camera. And who asked you why? Now?
- 39:40Speaker 1: Will be t plus so you know there's some cousin
- 39:43Speaker 1: going on. Y'all y'all get y'all get as they said,
- 39:45Speaker 1: y'all get wild, y'all get wild out. Plus y'all talking,
- 39:49Speaker 1: y'all talk and walk it. And that Tammy Roman. I'm
- 39:52Speaker 1: gonna tell you something. That girl right there, you got
- 39:56Speaker 1: a co star co stars right there, that young ladies,
- 39:58Speaker 1: funny child. I did not know that Tammy Roman. I
- 40:01Speaker 1: want to know how y'all cast Tammy Roman, because Tammy
- 40:04Speaker 1: Roman is gonna be your stock. This young lady right now.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I've seen four episodes, so don't tim. I just saw
- 40:09Speaker 1: the pilot. She's just funny. The pilot. I saw the
- 40:12Speaker 1: episode two. I saw episode three. I saw episode four.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Your but it's funny, Your husband but it's funny, a
- 40:19Speaker 1: little bit of boy's funny. And your daughter who thinks
- 40:22Speaker 1: she knows everything funny, Your lazy, your son, your daughter
- 40:26Speaker 1: who comes in later because she because you just kind
- 40:28Speaker 1: of like this enfranchise to that whole episode is very
- 40:32Speaker 1: groundbreaking as far as the language from a gay community standpoint,
- 40:36Speaker 1: coming out of your mouth. Being able to say that
- 40:39Speaker 1: and get away with it and then have morality tied
- 40:42Speaker 1: to it. And I'm just being me wants the problem
- 40:45Speaker 1: and I walked through, I said, did she say that?
- 40:47Speaker 1: But I'm just saying all these things to everybody who's
- 40:49Speaker 1: watching and listen to this interview. We're talking to the
- 40:53Speaker 1: next next. The reason I say that, I can't say
- 40:55Speaker 1: who she is, but I just know right now I'm
- 40:58Speaker 1: talking to a young lady right now and I'm inter
- 41:00Speaker 1: you on money making. Conversation is not only brilliant, but
- 41:03Speaker 1: she's career defineding in her path and she's authentic and
- 41:07Speaker 1: she's original. That's who you are, Missy. I'm not closing out.
- 41:09Speaker 1: This interview might sound like our interview close out. I'll
- 41:12Speaker 1: just tell you. I'm just I just gotta put out
- 41:14Speaker 1: there earl in this conversation with people listen to me
- 41:16Speaker 1: because they know I tell the truth. You special young lady.
- 41:19Speaker 1: We'll talk about Tammy what. It was funny because this
- 41:23Speaker 1: show was created with me at a twenty three year
- 41:25Speaker 1: old kid who had I was in college at the time,
- 41:29Speaker 1: never wrote anything but a play that was at the
- 41:32Speaker 1: Public in New York, and that was my third writer.
- 41:35Speaker 1: And Lee Dan he was like, I'm gonna go to
- 41:37Speaker 1: the street and find your writer because I really think
- 41:40Speaker 1: it's something here. So I said, okay, Lee whatever. He
- 41:42Speaker 1: found this kid on my birthday, flew me out from
- 41:45Speaker 1: wherever I was performing there and make a long story short,
- 41:48Speaker 1: I meet him and we get to talking and you know,
- 41:51Speaker 1: we create the pilot our sales where they say we
- 41:54Speaker 1: couldn't do it. And then he get a job and
- 41:56Speaker 1: he tells me because we're really close, he's twenty three
- 41:59Speaker 1: years old, and we call him the dreamer there. He
- 42:01Speaker 1: was like, I know who you're gonna be your husband,
- 42:03Speaker 1: and I know who's gonna be your sister. And so
- 42:06Speaker 1: he pulled Tammy Roman up in the bonnet chronic chronic
- 42:09Speaker 1: that she does on Instagram, and I was like, no,
- 42:12Speaker 1: They're like crazy. She's not gonna be my sister. He
- 42:14Speaker 1: was like, I'm telling y'all are so good. Y'all like
- 42:16Speaker 1: Lucien Ethan and got and I was like no, and
- 42:19Speaker 1: so and then and later on I found out she
- 42:22Speaker 1: was a reality star and I was like, Blue, I
- 42:24Speaker 1: don't want to reality star on the show. I want
- 42:26Speaker 1: real actors because this is my first acting gig. He's like, no, Pat,
- 42:30Speaker 1: just listen. So we we we auditioned, we audition and
- 42:34Speaker 1: I found a girl that I thought I really like.
- 42:37Speaker 1: So we She had number one by her name and
- 42:39Speaker 1: walked Tammy Roman with the nail's pain that just just
- 42:42Speaker 1: looked like this character from Top to Talk. And I
- 42:45Speaker 1: didn't like her. I did not like her. But baby,
- 42:48Speaker 1: when she walked out of that room and I looked
- 42:50Speaker 1: at everybody's like that, go Denise. She came and she
- 42:54Speaker 1: stold it. She stole a job. I mean literally, she
- 42:57Speaker 1: wouldn't hand her anything because you know, all because she
- 43:00Speaker 1: had a name. Who wasn't trying to get people an Instagram.
- 43:03Speaker 1: We was trying to get real actors. And when I
- 43:04Speaker 1: tell you we're actors and real actress, when I tell you,
- 43:07Speaker 1: this girl came into that room, and stole that job.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Stole that job, and the chemistry that we have on
- 43:14Speaker 1: set is like unreal. You know, It's like like when
- 43:19Speaker 1: you can't the way the way this the way this
- 43:21Speaker 1: show was cast, you were like, I almost believe this
- 43:24Speaker 1: is a real family, from the husband to all the kids.
- 43:27Speaker 1: You know, we we we didn't leave no stone unturned.
- 43:32Speaker 1: But she did a wonderful job. And I'm so happy
- 43:35Speaker 1: that people can see another light of Tammy because there
- 43:38Speaker 1: was like, she's an actress. I'm like, this girl can
- 43:40Speaker 1: act behind and fun me. I'm telling you something because
- 43:46Speaker 1: I know Tammy all the way back to Steve Harvey
- 43:48Speaker 1: sitcom on w B. That's when I first knew she
- 43:50Speaker 1: could act. You know she did. She did a couple
- 43:52Speaker 1: of cameos on His Serious way back then. Then she
- 43:54Speaker 1: went into this reality star role. And so when I
- 43:57Speaker 1: started reading the credits, I go, Dammy Rome and doing
- 44:00Speaker 1: the stand up there doing a comedy and the first
- 44:03Speaker 1: scene that she comes in and she just lays it
- 44:05Speaker 1: out there go her timing, and uh, it was, you know,
- 44:09Speaker 1: acquire me. I'm just gonna tell you what that means.
- 44:11Speaker 1: They tried to acquire me, you know, and h y'all
- 44:14Speaker 1: look at the show. Y'all just look at the show.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Y'all find out what that means. That that's a that's
- 44:18Speaker 1: such a temple of who she is. She as they say,
- 44:22Speaker 1: my mom will tell me she's shiftless, she's lazy, she
- 44:24Speaker 1: has no aspirations. But she got a sister, and the
- 44:27Speaker 1: sister got patience with her, and the family got patience
- 44:30Speaker 1: with her. She teach she's to know at all. But
- 44:33Speaker 1: when you when you have a person like that who
- 44:35Speaker 1: comes in who you you didn't think it was the one? Now, pat,
- 44:39Speaker 1: you didn't think there was on your show? You know,
- 44:41Speaker 1: ms Pad. I want the actress and I want people
- 44:43Speaker 1: I've seen on TV. And it's so funny because when
- 44:46Speaker 1: I when I listened to this interview, you didn't watch TV,
- 44:49Speaker 1: you didn't watch movies. You didn't know nothing about the
- 44:51Speaker 1: history of stand up comedy. Sometimes I figure out how
- 44:54Speaker 1: you making decisions with somebody she can't do the job,
- 44:57Speaker 1: and you do you know about four or five people
- 44:59Speaker 1: on your hands? That's all you know. I mean, I'm
- 45:04Speaker 1: not I'm a comedian, but I don't watch reality shows.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I'm more over, I'm an age drug dealer, so I
- 45:09Speaker 1: like games the movies, you know, like Knockos the Wire.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I watched those. You have to throw Me off the boat,
- 45:16Speaker 1: you know, I don't watch that kind of stuff. So
- 45:19Speaker 1: you're knocking, You're knocking reality. So you was knock on Netflix. Yeah,
- 45:24Speaker 1: you're my girl. You're my girl right then? Coming on
- 45:29Speaker 1: hand I like that kind of stuff on handmade tailor
- 45:33Speaker 1: is not drug dealing. Hand made well, it is a
- 45:37Speaker 1: place where they cut off things. I mean I was like,
- 45:41Speaker 1: I like that. So when she came alone, I mean,
- 45:46Speaker 1: she just she just fit the bills. She really did.
- 45:49Speaker 1: And I remember talking to she said, you know, people
- 45:51Speaker 1: like I know you what you probably heard about me.
- 45:53Speaker 1: I said, I have never heard anything about you, because
- 45:55Speaker 1: I didn't even know who you was until we started casting.
- 45:58Speaker 1: And I said, look, I take for who they are,
- 46:01Speaker 1: not for what somebody else say. You did. You know
- 46:03Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Hey, I don't come through me who
- 46:06Speaker 1: you are. I don't. I don't dislike you for what
- 46:09Speaker 1: somebody else dislike you for. I get to know people,
- 46:13Speaker 1: and I got to know and I mean she is
- 46:16Speaker 1: just a wonderful person to work with, you know. And
- 46:18Speaker 1: one thing about me, I'm real. So I sent my
- 46:22Speaker 1: cast down and I said, hey, we're not gonna worry
- 46:24Speaker 1: about no call. She who's first on the call, She
- 46:28Speaker 1: who's a star? I said, because this is all of
- 46:30Speaker 1: our show. It takes all of us to get this
- 46:32Speaker 1: done it. I said, you know, the only difference is
- 46:35Speaker 1: that they got my name on it. I'm no fool.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I know it's my show, I said, but I can't
- 46:40Speaker 1: do it without you guys. So we all stars. And
- 46:43Speaker 1: I just broke down that Hollywood bearer from the day one.
- 46:47Speaker 1: The only difference is all pay checks. Here's here's the
- 46:51Speaker 1: funny part about that speech she just gave me. She said,
- 46:53Speaker 1: you know I need all y'all. You know, you know,
- 46:55Speaker 1: don't worry about that call sheet, but my name on
- 46:58Speaker 1: the show. So don't get stupid. Now you get stupid
- 47:00Speaker 1: that on that one day, you get stupid and forget that.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna remind you this miss Patting and I Patricia
- 47:06Speaker 1: weaves straight out to street from a drug dealer convicted fella.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I will show you of part of reality that you
- 47:12Speaker 1: don't want to see about me. And that's what the
- 47:15Speaker 1: reality this show is bringing all these individual girls. I know.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I'm just talking about Tammy Roman from a stand up
- 47:20Speaker 1: comedian from a from a comedian standpoint, how she stood out?
- 47:24Speaker 1: But your husband and he's funny, your young son's funny.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Let's talk about that opening. And like I said, the
- 47:31Speaker 1: show opens you with heard talking, you know, because I'm
- 47:34Speaker 1: not gonna give away the show too much, but it
- 47:36Speaker 1: did the transitions into her house, and it is the
- 47:42Speaker 1: plane right and right right it is. It's really like
- 47:46Speaker 1: I said, it's really so slick the way you guys
- 47:50Speaker 1: are doing it, and it's so entertaining, you know. I
- 47:54Speaker 1: was really fascinated about. And some of my questions were
- 47:57Speaker 1: from a production standpoint. Some of my questions where how
- 48:00Speaker 1: much were you involved when this whole creative cold opening
- 48:04Speaker 1: and the character set up? And also the scripts? Do
- 48:07Speaker 1: you do you get to play with Hey, I don't
- 48:09Speaker 1: like that line? Could I say that line? Do they
- 48:11Speaker 1: shoot several scenes and this is the scene from the
- 48:14Speaker 1: script they go do your thing scene? Because a lot
- 48:16Speaker 1: of times when they have talented comedians like you, they go, hey, okay,
- 48:20Speaker 1: this is a script, but do your thing on this
- 48:21Speaker 1: with misspath. How does that work? Actually we had writers.
- 48:27Speaker 1: We had writers, honestly, but that was not one strip
- 48:30Speaker 1: that we didn't go back and touch, so you know,
- 48:32Speaker 1: you can have anybody, you know, mostly writers with this
- 48:35Speaker 1: show is there too to build a form because it's
- 48:39Speaker 1: such my voice. So I have to touch every strip
- 48:42Speaker 1: and and some of them had to be totally rewritch,
- 48:46Speaker 1: absolutely totally reach. So de bother down to and me
- 48:49Speaker 1: and the co creator Jordan Cooper wrote every strip. We
- 48:52Speaker 1: wrote on every strip, so um, only men him was
- 48:58Speaker 1: allowed to change things. Know, it was never like do
- 49:01Speaker 1: your thing, because I felt like we wrote these trips
- 49:05Speaker 1: funny enough that we everybody she made to follow the trip.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Now we didn't make up some stuff on the floor
- 49:10Speaker 1: and as fun as production and all of that stuff
- 49:12Speaker 1: you see opening that came from this twenty three year
- 49:14Speaker 1: old he's twenty six now, twenty six year old kid.
- 49:17Speaker 1: I did all that plane opening and the way I
- 49:20Speaker 1: do the monologues and the comedy of firm, all that
- 49:23Speaker 1: stuff came from him. You know. We literally wrote each
- 49:26Speaker 1: one of those monologue the day before I was supposed
- 49:29Speaker 1: to shoot it. All the comedy in that up front
- 49:33Speaker 1: to tell you what the show was about, how to
- 49:34Speaker 1: show open. A lot of that stuff was wrote at
- 49:37Speaker 1: the last minute, and it wasn't easy either. Absolutely Now
- 49:41Speaker 1: now you know your your your surge to comedy start them.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Like I said, I talked about when You first, When
- 49:46Speaker 1: You series was first picked up on Fox at sixteen,
- 49:49Speaker 1: and he recently did a Netflix first special one you know,
- 49:52Speaker 1: COVID came out, so that cut down you couldn't tour
- 49:55Speaker 1: taking advantage of all that great not to ride? Did
- 49:58Speaker 1: we know? Stand up comedy is we make our money live?
- 50:01Speaker 1: And so now you have this amazing sitcom on BT
- 50:04Speaker 1: Plus called Miss Pat. Okay, What's what's what? We're gonna
- 50:08Speaker 1: see your comedy clubs out of you don't see you
- 50:10Speaker 1: three thousand Sea There's or we're gonna see uh, We're
- 50:13Speaker 1: gonna see a United Center, or you want to see matters?
- 50:16Speaker 1: What are we gonna see? How to Miss Pall? You're
- 50:17Speaker 1: gonna come back and do the stay Farm? You know,
- 50:20Speaker 1: readA by yourself. What we're gonna do here in Atlanta, George?
- 50:22Speaker 1: What we're gonna do? Miss Pat? I'm just putting you
- 50:24Speaker 1: on the spot, young lady. Come on now, well, I
- 50:27Speaker 1: hope you know I'm open for theaters and stuff like that.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I'm hoping. Come on now, You're way too confident be
- 50:34Speaker 1: sitting up in hoping don't be humbled on this show.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Your talent doesn't allow you to be humble. Come on,
- 50:39Speaker 1: you're in your phase. You're special. Well, I mean, I'm
- 50:43Speaker 1: looking forward to moving into theaters. I'm doing really well
- 50:45Speaker 1: in clubs right now. I'm looking I'm looking forward. You know.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I like the intimates of the club. But I understand
- 50:52Speaker 1: that my career is going a lot that I'm not
- 50:54Speaker 1: gonna be I'm not gonna work myself to them doing
- 50:57Speaker 1: nine of the shows because I'm I'm forty nine years
- 51:00Speaker 1: so I mean, I'm looking forward to. I'm looking forward
- 51:02Speaker 1: to whatever. You know, the career brains. I love people.
- 51:06Speaker 1: I love doing stand up. Stand Up is number one
- 51:09Speaker 1: for me because it's the only thing that I can't control.
- 51:12Speaker 1: You know, as far as a TV show, they say
- 51:15Speaker 1: the Misspatched show will be T Plus and Fox on
- 51:18Speaker 1: this show, so I work for them. You know your
- 51:21Speaker 1: part about it. My name is on it, but in
- 51:23Speaker 1: the end is their show. They bought it. So I
- 51:26Speaker 1: focus on what I can't control, which is my stand up.
- 51:29Speaker 1: So you will be saying on people can know that
- 51:32Speaker 1: you'll be seeing a lot more on my stand up
- 51:34Speaker 1: because that's where I grind the hardest that. Now, let's
- 51:37Speaker 1: let's talk about you know, you know, because you know,
- 51:41Speaker 1: you can get popular a lot of ways nowadays through
- 51:43Speaker 1: social media, through YouTube channel. Now what impacted popularity did
- 51:49Speaker 1: the Netflix special have on your career? Netflix helped me
- 51:53Speaker 1: out a lot. And honestly, they they're really nice over there.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I've worked with them a lot. Uh they're getting ready
- 51:59Speaker 1: to my first special. When when when we're ready? But um,
- 52:05Speaker 1: that doing that that quarter hour helped out a lot.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Also doing the cabin on with Bert christcher on that
- 52:12Speaker 1: all that stuff, everything to me is a piece of
- 52:15Speaker 1: the puzzle to put my career into place. So those
- 52:18Speaker 1: little pieces that those chips that Netflix had me, it
- 52:21Speaker 1: was just another piece. This show that BT plus had me,
- 52:24Speaker 1: it's another piece. All of it just a poser to me.
- 52:27Speaker 1: And we're putting it together now. Okay, now now we've
- 52:30Speaker 1: gotta be T plus to show. It's premiered in August.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Have you been able to start feel a shift of
- 52:35Speaker 1: like people like me getting excited about you, people in
- 52:38Speaker 1: the street, going in the grocery shore Now we're wearing
- 52:40Speaker 1: masks and someplace you're not wearing mad How is that
- 52:43Speaker 1: affecting you? Are you are you feeling Are you feeling
- 52:47Speaker 1: you know? You know you gotta got that that that
- 52:49Speaker 1: that sentister smile. You know, I don't know if you're happy.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I don't know if you're ready to punch me into forehead.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Where are you at with your life? Are you happy
- 52:58Speaker 1: with what's happening? Or you're happy people with the popularity
- 53:01Speaker 1: of this new series is bringing in to your life.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Talk to us about that. I mean, I'm very happy. Uh,
- 53:07Speaker 1: the show just for me her last week, So I
- 53:09Speaker 1: haven't been. I'm I'm on a set right now. You
- 53:11Speaker 1: know behind me, I'm in a trailer. I'm shooting another pilot.
- 53:14Speaker 1: So I haven't been outside with people. Are Oh my god,
- 53:17Speaker 1: that's miss pat. So I've been to the airport. I
- 53:20Speaker 1: won't know until next week. So I mean, I'm getting
- 53:23Speaker 1: I'm getting noticed a lot more now. But you know,
- 53:26Speaker 1: I Papa been places people don't expect me, and Papa
- 53:28Speaker 1: pay my my my bags A line is right there
- 53:31Speaker 1: or Hill Street in Atlanta, and I'm walking about what
- 53:33Speaker 1: the heck are you doing here? I mean to get
- 53:35Speaker 1: my wings put on like you? So, um, nothing has
- 53:41Speaker 1: really changed, Like everybody's like, what do it feel like?
- 53:44Speaker 1: It feels like I need to go to work. That's why.
- 53:47Speaker 1: That's why I'm here. I'm working so I don't really
- 53:49Speaker 1: get caught up in the fame and all of that stuff.
- 53:51Speaker 1: And I don't need you to open the dope for me,
- 53:53Speaker 1: and I drive myself right now. Uh, it's just worked
- 53:57Speaker 1: for me, and I'm happy to see that people are
- 53:59Speaker 1: start to notice how hard I want to get where
- 54:02Speaker 1: I'm at. So that's what makes me happy. Just people like, oh,
- 54:06Speaker 1: my god, I didn't know you was there. Oh that
- 54:08Speaker 1: this show is really good. It took five years for
- 54:10Speaker 1: this show to get on TV or the three networks,
- 54:13Speaker 1: three writers on a lot of t years. Well that
- 54:17Speaker 1: that that's the part that I like about you, you know,
- 54:20Speaker 1: because of the fact that a lot of people see Hollywood,
- 54:22Speaker 1: they see this sitcom and say, if I don't bring
- 54:24Speaker 1: that up in my intro and we're talking honestly about it,
- 54:27Speaker 1: people say, oh, she would it just happened? No, sixteen,
- 54:31Speaker 1: she thought it was gonna happen. So that was a
- 54:32Speaker 1: high for her Fox and then and then twenty and
- 54:36Speaker 1: einteen Hulu. There was another high for her when you
- 54:39Speaker 1: went to b T plus. What was your emotion at
- 54:42Speaker 1: that point where you like, whatever you know, I I
- 54:45Speaker 1: see it when I see it. And because it went
- 54:48Speaker 1: to some more advanced steps that made you feel it
- 54:50Speaker 1: was going to happen, where were you at? And then
- 54:52Speaker 1: like I said, I'm over here, you know, just Googland
- 54:55Speaker 1: and just gushing about how brilliant you are and how
- 54:58Speaker 1: just I'm in love with miss pat and the show
- 55:01Speaker 1: on BT plus. Where were you at each one of
- 55:04Speaker 1: those steps in sixteen? And then when when when I
- 55:10Speaker 1: got there holding deal and we found a writer, I
- 55:13Speaker 1: was happy. I was I'm finally gonna get a show,
- 55:16Speaker 1: and things didn't work out, so we switched the writer,
- 55:18Speaker 1: and then we went to another writer. Things didn't work
- 55:20Speaker 1: out again, so I started to lose comfort there and
- 55:22Speaker 1: then I said, you know what, if you're gonna happen,
- 55:24Speaker 1: it's gonna happen. I'm so happy. I had Lee Daniel
- 55:28Speaker 1: there to say. Look, and my friend John Ratler wanted
- 55:31Speaker 1: the producer that helped found me. He was like, it's done.
- 55:33Speaker 1: I happened sometime when he's great, you just take a
- 55:36Speaker 1: longer time. I never get One of the producer named
- 55:39Speaker 1: Francis told me that, so I said, okay, that's fine,
- 55:42Speaker 1: and we ended up getting a writer and then we shot.
- 55:46Speaker 1: We shoot the pilot, and I kept telling everybody, they're
- 55:48Speaker 1: not gonna pick it up. My spirit told me Hulu
- 55:51Speaker 1: was not gonna pick it up. Hulu dropped it, and
- 55:53Speaker 1: I was like, okay, Lulu, when we're going from here.
- 55:56Speaker 1: They was like, I will find your home. When bt
- 55:59Speaker 1: plus popped up, my first thing was, well, what that
- 56:03Speaker 1: was bt blow? I t Plus and it was like
- 56:08Speaker 1: picked up and then they're gonna give your guys turn up.
- 56:11Speaker 1: So I was like, what is that. They was like,
- 56:13Speaker 1: they just started a new streaming service and at the time,
- 56:17Speaker 1: it was like maybe a year old, and he was
- 56:20Speaker 1: looking up. They only got a million subscribers. You kind
- 56:24Speaker 1: of you know, it's a kind of shift shift in
- 56:26Speaker 1: your Happening's like wow, we went from Hulu to hear.
- 56:29Speaker 1: And so I had to tell the co creator. I said,
- 56:30Speaker 1: let me tell you something about life. I've learned. You
- 56:33Speaker 1: have to learn to miss with people who miss with you.
- 56:35Speaker 1: So just because you want to be all that with
- 56:37Speaker 1: all the big fish, maybe this is what we're supposed
- 56:40Speaker 1: to be. And so I remember when I got to
- 56:42Speaker 1: meet them and things started to get rolling, and I
- 56:44Speaker 1: just told him, I said, I think that this show
- 56:46Speaker 1: is gonna be your handmade tells like it was to Hulu,
- 56:51Speaker 1: because handmakes put Hulu. That's the only reason why I
- 56:53Speaker 1: ever substrive to it, I said. I said, if you,
- 56:56Speaker 1: if you allow us to do what we wanna do
- 56:58Speaker 1: and support us, we I think we can be your
- 57:01Speaker 1: handmade Still and it lunched and people went crazy. There
- 57:06Speaker 1: you go. See I've been waiting on that. So you
- 57:08Speaker 1: see that's all. So you have to know something. People
- 57:10Speaker 1: went crazy, like me going crazy from ms Pat She's
- 57:14Speaker 1: a star. Uh Patricia weis a k Miss Pat bt
- 57:19Speaker 1: plus subscribe to it the Miss pat Show. Not only
- 57:23Speaker 1: is she brilliant, but the cast, Like I said, I
- 57:25Speaker 1: just Tammy Roman. If you just know as a reality
- 57:28Speaker 1: star you watched this show, you're gonna know as a
- 57:30Speaker 1: comedy star. The other cast members are fantastic. The writing
- 57:34Speaker 1: is great, but more important, it's original. I told my
- 57:37Speaker 1: staff today, I said, I felt like I was watching
- 57:39Speaker 1: the modern day version of safon his Son from a
- 57:42Speaker 1: stylistic from organic from original point of view, because you're
- 57:46Speaker 1: breaking so many walls down and you're doing it with grace,
- 57:48Speaker 1: You're doing it with elegance. You may not have wanted
- 57:51Speaker 1: to be a stand up comedian, but you're a queen
- 57:52Speaker 1: of comedy now, young lady, so you keep winning over people.
- 57:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna try. I'm gonna try because stop stop that
- 58:00Speaker 1: you are doing it. Don't do it. I'm trying. You
- 58:02Speaker 1: are a beach. You are a beauty queen of comedy. Okay,
- 58:06Speaker 1: what thank you? Thank you hard? I mean all I
- 58:09Speaker 1: can do is put it out there is the public
- 58:12Speaker 1: will let you know what they like it. The public
- 58:15Speaker 1: is letting you know. Like you say, you will be
- 58:18Speaker 1: the as they see the anchor of that network or
- 58:21Speaker 1: just BT Street Plus streaming. And believe me, every day
- 58:25Speaker 1: your episode is only get more subscribers because of you.
- 58:28Speaker 1: And I want to thank you for coming on Money

- 1:00:38Speaker 1: is soaks throughout a millions menstorship program. I pretty much
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: started this menstorship program during COVID. One of the things
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: that I did while we were ship down was to
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: film various courses that I felt would be helpful to
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: people who wanted to get into entrepreneurship, who wanted to
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: start saving and investing, who wanted to get into restaurant
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: ownership UM and then also during a way myself. If
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: you were to hear this full interview with Michelle Snoop
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Dealer is available on Money Making Conversations dot com. Now
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: let's return to Money Making Conversation with Rushan McDonald. My
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: next guest is Jay Arrington Gavin. While doing research for
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: the right ingredients for his beer in twenty sixteen, I
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: don't I have a beer like him? He got a beard.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: You know, I'm just happy to what I got. Day
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Aaron to begin to share his findings and use his
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: family and friends as human testers. He then went on
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: to receive his bachelor's degree in Wellness, Recreation and Sports
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: and twenty seventeen. His passion for the art of human
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: body left him with a burning desire to help individuals
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: accomplish their personal best by living a healthy lifestyle through
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: fitness and wellness. From that desire gave birth to Rugged Evolution,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: a Beer Carolina product that he makes available to other
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: men of distinction. He's a good friend of mine, a
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: young friend of mine, and I've been, like to believe
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I've been mentoring and helping him along the way. Please
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: welcome to money Making Conversation. To see you and founder
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: a Rugged Evolution, Jay Arrington Gavin, How you doing, sir?
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I'm doing great, my friend, How are you being well?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: First of all, you you're smiling man, and uh, it's
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: been a fun journey. I First of all, how is
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: your mom? I gotta I gotta say how the mom? Okay,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: my mom is doing awesome. She's doing everyone's doing great.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Healthy vaccinator. Everybody's doing all right? I know that's that's
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: really key. And uh in the business, did your end
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: is dealing with look is dealing with facials, dealing with
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: people are in close quarters? Sometimes? Talk about your business
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: during the COVID and did you have to make any
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: adjustments during the pandemic when the country shut down? Did
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: it impact you positively? Did you do a p P P.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: We'll talk about the whole process in Well, we were
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: very fortunate. Um, for one, where are an e commerce site,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: but we are located in our products are sold in
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: a uh selective brick and mortar stores in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: But actually during the during that time, I was moving
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: into a much larger office space in March of so
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: when when the whole shutdown was going, I was moving
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: on up to a much bigger office and warehouse space. Uh,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: you know, continue to grow and grow. Sales were still
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: you know, still steady. But we were very fortunate. Um uh, yeah,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: we were. We were very blessed really doing during COVID,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: But it was still an adjustment because you had to
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: get creative. I think whenever a new obstacle comes upon
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: comes my way, it helps me grow as a business
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: owner and as an entrepreneur. So with that being said,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: we we got more creative with things. UM did stuff
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: a lot more virtual. We did a lot of Facebook
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Live during the during COVID, just to continue to stay
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: relevant to people that do follow us, almost kind of
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: like a QI theme style of Facebook Live. So we
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: were doing very good and adjusting and getting really creative
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: during during the COVID. Well, I will tell you you
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: now and the two we talked about a long time
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: ago about you being the face of your brain and
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: at the time, you know a little little bit the
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: confidence for them there, you know. I mean one time
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: we did an interview and you said, you know so
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: many times and hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, Gavin, Look,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: we want to do this interview again. I'm not putting
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: you out there like that, young man. And you understood
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: what I was talking about because I had your best interest,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: and you did it again. And look at you now
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: you got a podcast. I won't get you farther in
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: the interview. I can see the confidence and how you're
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: talking in articulation. Talk about that growth man, and then
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: also talk about the responsibility of becoming the face of
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: your brand and being able to articulate the value of
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: your brand from your personal point of view. Well, you
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: you said the the very first interview that I had
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: with you, miss McDonald, I was nervous. You can hear
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: you can hear the nerves like you said, Um, I
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: definitely took all your advice to hard learned groom more
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: of the vending shows that I attended. I looked at
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: that as a form of you know, working on my
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: speaking and talking in public with people promoting my brand.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: That confidence booster. I mean it was everything was growth,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: whether it was especially being the face of my business
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: and of my brand. Um, if I don't show that confidence,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: nobody's gonna believe in my brand. So I had to
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: build up that confidence and had to uh definitely continue
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: to educate myself. I educate myself every day with my products,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: the type of ingredients I put in my products, Uh,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: you know, new things, old things, making sure I'm not
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: behind but ahead of the game at all at all times.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: And um, that's really how I continue to grow and
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: grow every day. And this is I always think of
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: the first the first time I was on the show,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: and yeah, it's it's it's it's always always have to
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: last myself. So well, there's just by growth. You know,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: it's about being able to be honest. And that's what
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I've done all my life. You know, I always are
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: like mentored and uplift and made sure that people understand
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: their skilled your you just saw you didn't see what
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I saw you at the time. You know, you were
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: you were a guy who it was the CEO of
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: a company. He was very young when you started it.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: You know, you've been wearing you've been having a full
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: beer since you were fourteen years old, and so all
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: these things aren't put you in a position then you
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: had to understand how you can create value from that,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So but but what I've
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: known just the most is before we even get into
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: the products, and I'm just gonna do the word evolution,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: is how beards have taken on a life of their own,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: kind of like what Michael Jordan did with the bald hair,
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: bald head when he shaved his head playing basketball. Talk
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: about how that and then you know, you have a
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: lot of famous people in the NBA who have really
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: marketed their beards and things like that. So but outside
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: of them, just the it's cool to wear a beard.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: It always was kind of cool, but it feeds like
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: it's really come out to the forefront. And that's why
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: a brand like yours is starting to benefit because you're
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: providing beer care beard care products. Yeah. So I always
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: love to say, you know, in previous years, beards were
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: always like you said, was always cool, but it was
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: still a form of like, you know, if you have
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: this interview, be sure to shave that off, and if
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: you have this job, be sure to save this all.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: So I've always want to promote that whether you're work
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: in corporate America or whether you are a label worker,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: you can still be a man of distinction while rocking
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: a well groomed beer. Um, it's not a it's not
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: a trend now, it is a movement. Um, you see
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: men of higher power, you see men at you know, uh,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: mid level jobs, or even all all jobs. They're rocking
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: facial hair beers, mustache, go tee. It's nothing wrong with it.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: So Um, as far as the evolution of growing, it
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: is starting to grow and show that you can still
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: be a man distinction, have that confidence while rocking a
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: well groomed beer. Well, like I said, now that they're
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: there are different layers of beer you have to go
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: to talk about. You know, we say beard beard care products,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: but you have gotees, you have mustache. All your products
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: can work in that in that care Caroline, because you
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: should take care of your much dad, you should take
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: care of all this stuff. So let's not just say
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: if you don't have if you just have a beard,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: your then that's what your product. For your product is
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: for any facial hair correct that, sorry, it is for
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: all facial hair types. Are product. At the end of
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: the day, our facial hair fellows are the magnets of
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: bacteria and Greece. Whether you have a thin shadow, whether
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: you have just a mustache, whether you have the van dyke,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: the goatee, the beard is still the magnetum bacteria in
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: grease and if you don't take care of that. Right now,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: we're in a warmer climate, so when we sweat a lot,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: all that sweat, it builds up to that facial hair
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: and it starts and then you start having the older,
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: the issy irritation on the skin bacteria. So you don't
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: want that. So you always need to have a great
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: product with with you in order to maintain that because
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: at the end of the day. I always say, you
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: gotta take care of your body internally as well as externally.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: I would tell you everybody I I do use rugged
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Evolution products. He sent me that little round brush. I
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: don't know if you still because I got two up,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: the little round brush, that round and my wife would
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: look at me, she said, it really does. I would
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: brush my bridge, she said, it really does make a
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: big difference. And how of all my products? You know,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: I got everything I got, I got the fark, I
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: got a little small, but I get that little round
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: brush man, and it would make ab and I would
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: you know a lot of people come to me try
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: to use their products, but nobody uh touches that brush. Man.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about other products, but I won't let
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: you know that brush that that that travels with me.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: I got up aught another one. I keep one at
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: the office, I keep one at home. I keep one
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: in my travel back. I got three of them. Well
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: that's only because see that brush when you brush twice
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: a day, what that does? That SI me the hair
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: folical soe you always gonna brush twice a day helps
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: open up those hair follicles. So that's a really great
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: thing while you can see to maintain that? Why your wife,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: so you said, I see a difference by you know,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: I would do it in the mirror right next tour
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: And she goes, if she could see, decide, just laid
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: my hair down right and then, you know, because your
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: hair would kind of like start separating, but it would
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: bring it all together, give me a fullness. I guess
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: that's what it. It would give me a fullness to
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: my beard, you know, my to what level? Now what
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I'm not trying to get away in your trade secrets?
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: What made your brush a one that affected my beard
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: versus other competition? Because that hair brush is fantastic. Well,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: the key thing is the types of bristles. I have
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: one brush right here on the table. That's one of
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: our busts. Those board bristles are is with key. You
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: never want anything too hard because our skin is very sensitive.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: So you don't want to have something, you know, scratching
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: the skin at all. You want to have a board brustle.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Board bristles. It is like almost in between. It's slightly
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: hard but very soft, so and it always stays consistent too,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: right and then and then I like to call a
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: lot the little eye dropper. You put the eye dropper
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: putting on your beard, make your beard shining. So I
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: got a little I can't never get your technical world,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: but I know I pull that little I drop out
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: man A couple of my hands feeling like that, putting
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: my beer looking shot. I get that brush right behind it.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: If I if I ain't looking good, I think I
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: look good. Alright there, that's all I gotta say. Right,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: that's right. What are you looking good? It's me? Are
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: you looking great? You're looking great? So so talk about
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: some of the products that you're having, and then we're
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: also gonna go back to the backpacks. I want to
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: definitely talk about what you're doing up and happening brow
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: because I got such a really good restaurants and reaction
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: when I posted about it last year my social media.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: You know, you contacted me, you say could I posted?
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: You know, I'll do anything for you, and also going
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: to make a donation to you this year as well. Uh,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: just making the difference. But let's talk about the product.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: You know, here has some products in front of you.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: If you're watching this on video, you can see it.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: We're gonna be as as as uh as as creative
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: and descriptive as possible for people who are listening on
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: my podcast on my radio show. But tell us what
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: you got in front of us there. So I just
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: have a slight view of our products. So in total
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: of Regulolution Beercare, I started off actually with just four
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: cents of beard bombs and beard oils and all natural beercarelines.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: So now we now have sixteen cented beer bombs beard oil.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: As you see right here, I have my leaving I'm
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: excusing our conditioning shampoo. Who is a beard watched that
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: I recommend stink. It's especially during the summertime. And we
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: just launched two new products. So I have my leaving
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: beard moisturizer. It's a beard cream. It's the scent of ginger.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: It is so good. It's a very popular seller right now.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: We just launched that about two months ago. And um
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: it's mainly because again for the for the summertime, for
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: this heat, I try to adjust the routine when it
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: comes to beard maintenance. You don't want to apply too
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: much uh bomb, which is still good because the great moisturize,
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: but you don't apply too much and have all that
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: oil build up. So have something that you know, that's
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: a non greasy, uh substance onto that face. So this
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: is our leaving beard moisturizer. And then we also have
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: our our excuse me, our smooth Stats are Smooth Stats.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: We just launched that in March for Mustache Months, and
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: it's a must oil serum right here. And what you
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: do is just you just apply this. You can do
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: either five seconds to ten seconds. You can go in
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: small circles or right across. We started at for our
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: mustache sporters. But as long as you have like a
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: nice repeat it again what you just said there, Gavin,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: what was that you just had? What was that down? This?
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: This is the This is called Snooze Stats. Just a
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: mustache serum. Okay. So and it it comes in this
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: dispense with this little small robot and you can see
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: that's a small robot at the top. And you just
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: applied just like that about five is ten seconds. You're
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: all good to go. And it actually comes in a
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: black velvet bat with our new Ruggedolution mustache comb. So
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: right after you finish that, you can apply that comb
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: right there. You're all good to go, and you can
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: bring it with you at all time. It's very easy
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: to travel. Oh you got you gotta slick on me, Gavin.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I would you know because sometimes listening to go what
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: are you? Because it wasn't ball, because this is got ball.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: It's a mustache. I gotta I gotta get that. I
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: gotta get that. Now. Now I got the little the
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: little can the charisters were you know, you open and
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: then you put on your face as well. Yes, yes,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: talking about that. So our beard bomb, our beer bomb
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: is mainly for men with two inches or more for
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: guys with length, and it's used as a detangler still
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: as a great moisturizer. But we have a sixteen cents
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: sense of the beard bombs. I always will say, like
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the thing of the beer bomb is like a dressing.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: So the beard oil is made to treat the skin first.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: So you always want to continue to use the beard
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: oil because you've gotta make sure that skin is taking
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: care of underneath the hair in order to help enhance
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: and benefit your your beard. So you apply the beard
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: oil first, and while you do that, get right there
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: and good in those roots to tip. Then you apply
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: a little bit of beer bomb, which I use every day.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Beard oil and beer bomb and um, and then you
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: you apply one of our our accessories, one of our
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Beard Wooden combs, and you're all good to go, looking
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: great and smooth. Well you look well, thank you because
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: you you You're You're the reason I look great to
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: smooth if I'm looking great because of gap. Let's just
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: let y'all know what now, gavit. Here's a deal man.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: Now talk a you got now? You got a podcast now?
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: And you know I ain't been on the podcast. I
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: ain't mad now. I ain't mad, y'all. I'm not not
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: yet not. Yeah, he all say great things, but Roushan
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: went to Beard, the old guy trying to get that
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: young demo. I know what he's trying to do. He
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: ain't gonna bring the old guy on that right away.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: He's trying to get that young demo. Do you think
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I'm an a RP his old podcast. I'll tell your mama.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna call your mama. I said, yeah, we were
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: been Crocus came up to Hamptons and can't he put
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: me on his podcast? But he's going in the year too.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I still ain't got a phone call. That's all right.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: I love him though, I love I love that's too funny, Yeah,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: so we're so yeah. Our Our Smooth Club podcast. It's
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: a new podcast that UM we started uh mainly during
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: the during the shutdown, and it was something that it's
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: it's funny so much McDonald. When I started to attend universities,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: they always ask you know, what do you want a major?
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: And would you want to pursue a dream of mine.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: I've always wanted to be on radio, whether it was
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: on a radio talk show or from when. I have
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: a passion for dialogue. I love having a conversation with people.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: I highly think that, you know, conversation is something that
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: can take care of all the world's problems by sitting down,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: you know, talking, talking amongst each other. So, UM, the
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: podcast is called Our Smooth Club and it's a show
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: where everyday men discussed everyday topics. UM. Through my journey
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: and growing my business, I met some great people who
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: become great friends of mine. UM. This show is myself
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: along with three of my friends who are also business owners.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Young business owners were probably no more than like five
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: years with our brands, and the age group ranges from
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: twenty six to like sixty five. One of our co
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: hosts um He is an international fashion designer he has
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: his own custom suit collection for men and women. Um.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Another gentleman has uh owned a travel agency. And then
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: another gentleman who's sixty five, he has a uh have
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: a daste store, one of a very historic store in
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: uh Northford, Virginia. And UM, we just talked about everyday topics,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: whether it's related to relationship, business, um, uh, the culture, politics,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: social issues, I mean with sports. We talked about it
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: all and it's been a lot of fun. Um. We're
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: right now in season season two and we're available on
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: our my YouTube channel, Rugged Evil TV, also on all
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: you can listen to it on all major podcast platform Spotify, Google, Apple, uh, Stitcher.
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: UM will continue to grow that platform and um, and
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: it's it's great. We just started incorporating guests for season two.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: So you're gonna get you know, he go throw he
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: gonna throw me a bone, y'all, He's gonna just throw me.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: We're started incorporate cads. You know, we're gonna we're gonna
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: let your own. Mr McDonald, You're gonna put your own
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: do your thing. You know what I'm saying. You know,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: but I'm proud of you, man, because you know what
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: what social media and It's about controlling your destiny. And
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: and if you can't in this day and age, if
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: you can't step out there and say I want to
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: do something that I've always wanted to do. I look
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: at your presentation. That is fantastic. I look at the product. Now.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: When you start developing new products, So who do you
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: work with? Are you working with a chemists? Are you
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: working with a company. How do you go through the
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: process of developing new products? Well, I usually I do.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I will have I have a few contexts. One that's
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: a dermatologist, one that's a tricollist that works strictly with
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: their I'm you know, I'm making my products. So as
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: far as the testers are concerned, I will test on myself.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: I have a few other different beer types. I'll have
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: uh you know, different age groups, white beards, uh, black,
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: black beers, as far as the complection of the facial hair.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: And that's how I usually tested. And also, you know,
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: I look around as far as on the market and see, okay,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: what are we missing? What is something that a lot
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: of men asked for when it comes to beer hair
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: or when it comes to something to help you take
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: care of their beards. So I put that on paper,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: and then I'm like, Okay, look, this is something I
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: need to put down and I need to uh, you know,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: start working on and uh that. And that's that's how
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I do it. That's how I usually create, uh the
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: stuff that helps me when I'm creating a new product. Well,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: the thing that that the really part of over your
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: life that I really have always been impressed with is
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: that you're just a regular guy, you know, and you've
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: taken a gift. You know, some people might consider having
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: a beard at fourteen, accurse and because you know you're
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: gonna get teased and sometimes bullied, you know about having
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: facial hair and and things like that. And then but
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: you mature through that through uh you know, having having
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: a family, keeping your focus and also then you understand
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: that's not that's not something to be seen as a negative.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: And then the whole process of evolving to a person
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: who's giving back to the community and something that out
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: of all this negative atmosphere that was going on with COVID,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: you decided not to think about yourself last year. You
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: still have to think about others. What was the inspiration
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: behind thinking about others and why did it becoming become
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: important to do it again for the second year. Well,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: as you know we would. We are very for sure.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: We had our our Regevolution Foundation to back to School
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Drive we had we had it in twenty nineteen. It
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: was a huge success. We had a goal of giving
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: out two dred and fifty backpacks still with school supplies.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: We end up exceeding that goal to three hundred and
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: like sixty three and still had extra supplies to hand
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: out to the community. Um, but you know, due to
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: COVID last year. Uh, it was you know, I used
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: to work in the in the health care field and
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: our physical therapy, and it was, you know, the first
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: thing I knew was, you know, no health matters. People matter.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: I'm a people person, i love people. I'm a social butterfly.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: I'm always saying hey, how you doing, introduced myself things
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: like that. So the first thing it was like the
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: health of people and people and the people in my
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: community as well as young people as well. So that
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: we decided not to do that. And I'm especially due
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: to the crowd size, but we're fortunate to have our
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: second annual this year. Um, it will be happening. Let
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: me see August twenty eight uh at a local erect
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: center in Chesspeake, Virginian Indian River Community Center. Um, we're
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: actually having a local radio station, w NSB Blazing Hot nine.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: You one gonna be partnering with us for this event. Um,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: and they're actually affiliated with the SBEC. They're affially with
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: the Norfling State Universities. Yeah, and we see you component
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: is tied into the campaign, right yeah. Yeah. In our
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: goal this year is to give out five hundred backpacks
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: fill with school supplies. We're gonna be having free food,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: uh free, uh, let me see free free cashcus, give

- 1:22:36Speaker 1: be really great to have on your shot. And I

- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Formed the ny to fight two problems, hunger and waits.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Here's what Kirt Mays had to say, we gotta really
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: come together and think about the ways that we can
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: help each other even before people as um, so that
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: we can help, you know, stamp some of these gaps
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: that people have at Sometimes they they don't say anything
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: until it's too bad. It's what it's worse than they

- 1:26:40Speaker 1: together and and be that safety net for each other,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: we really can do a lot to reduce the bang
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: that a lot of people are actually stuffer too quietly.

- 1:26:57Speaker 1: Now let's return to Money Making Conversation through Sean McDonald.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: My next guest is by Job. He's an activist and
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: founder of Legal Equalizer and mobile app that allows users
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: to capture police encounters after being pulled over, automatically notified
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: loved ones in real time, providing information on legal rights
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: involving that encounter, and received legal advice at the same
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: on the scene, which is really important nowadays. It contains
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: laws for all fifty states, allows you to record or
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: go live with someone. By is originally from Gambia, West
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Africa and moved to US in nineteen eighty when he
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: was just nine years old. Since living in the US,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: By has dedicated countless hours to helping others, including volunteering
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: at homeless shelters and the local churches, as well as
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: helping with the Fair Fight and New Jargia projects. Please
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: work with the Money Making Conversations the first time. I
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: love what he represents. He's a techie with a legal
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: a game changer. I'd like to say, please work on
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: to money Making Conversation by job pretty good with my friend.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I appreciate you tech your time to be on the show. Uh.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Where you're so you're based in Atlanta, Georgia. Yeah, I
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: actually just recently moved moved this weekend to Davidson, North Carolina,
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: which is my alma mater um. So the school gave
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: me a grant to come up here and work on
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: the app with some students and have the students learned
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: how to be entrepreneurs and help them with that. So
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: I just moved up to North Carolina, right north to Charlotte.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: But I'm normally in Atlanta this whole well, I'm very
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: familiar with the Queen City. That's what. Uh, that's what Charlotte,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: North Carolina is called a good food, good people. But
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: you're back in Atlanta and it's good food and good
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: people here too, And you have an app. So when
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: once said the word app or somebody who engaged in
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: developing the app, the word techie comes up, Oh, do
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: you have a tech background? I do not. That's the
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: funny thing. I have no background in tech at all.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: So I've had to get people that could code and
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: do all of that stuff to get the app done
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: for me. Now, why it's important to create this app?
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Because I read the bio kind of like what the
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: incidents in St. Louis and growing to young man lose
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Michael Brown at the time that that it was didn't
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: infuriate you? Did it angry? To make you angry? To
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: make you feel helpless? What led to that? What were
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: the emotions that it was running through your your mind
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: and your body at the time. Um, it was a
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: combination of a bunch of things for us. So it
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: was that you know, I was angry, UM, nervous, uh, sad?
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: You feel helpless? Um? And for me during that time
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Mike Brown and in the subsequent incidents afterwards, what really
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: got me. Was that feeling also of always when anything happened,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: it was always gonna be, um, what did they do wrong?
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: What did this person do wrong? Instead of you know, asking, okay,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: what where's the video, where's the where's the proof of
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: what happened? So I really got tired of every time
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: we saw a young and armed black person get shot,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: get beaten up, get anything happened to him, it was
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: always going back to check on their past to see, hey,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: how did to escalate the situation rather than ask, okay,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: what the officer who has the power, what could they
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: have done to be escalaate that situation? How could that
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: move differently? So that was really the feeling. And it's
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: just that frustration over and over in the cycle that's
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: happened over and over again. Um. You know, since I've
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: came here as a seven year old kid from Gambia,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: you know I can name you countless names from Rodney King,
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: you know that was a year after I got here,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: right too, you know, Sean Bell to Oscar Grant to
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Amadajiallo to you know, so we can just keep going
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: names after name after name of this happening consistently. So
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: when Mike Brown happened. It was just after that time
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: I was like, I'm fed up. And for me personally,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: I've been stopped so many times. I've been stopped a
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: hundred and twenty plus times in my life. So you
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: feel that you basically have been stopped from being black,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: as they say, yeah, you know, the police stopping you
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: because you're black. I know I've been stopped. Uh and
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: I have cars that so why are you stopping me?
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: You know? And it makes you feel defenseless. Talk about
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: walk us through the steps. So because as an African
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: American male especially, we all have different experiences, we all
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: look at the police differently. I know myself when the
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: police stopped me, it is like the number one question
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: is okay, fear. Fear goes through my mind, you know,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: fear under okay, Um, how do I get away from this?
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I'm just talking about my side of the story. By
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: how do I make sure I leave this moment alive?
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: That's really crazy, I'm talking like this. I've educated man.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: I'm a successful man. I live in the upper upper
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: the upper tier neighborhood. I drive up with tier cars
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: and so but here I am being stopped. And just
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: recently I was stopped in Atlanta and de luke and
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: uh and uh when you pulled me over, you know,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: put the tent to made sure my hands were on't
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: the staring wheel? I asked him? He asked me for
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: my my auto insurance. I said, do you mind, I
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: gotta reach over here and look into my glove compartment
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: and he said fine. I did that. There was no
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: sudden rush to go over there, because I don't know
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: how he's going to react. That is my experience. And
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: of course eventually I was allowed to move on. And
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: the second time I was cop stopped, I was in
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: the vehicle and the that officer was white, the other
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: officer black. He talking about, uh, my type of vehicle
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: was in a hit and run accident. Of course I
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: didn't have a dent on my car. Why are you
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: stopping me? Brother? You can just walk around? And what?
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: What did you not say hit and run? Because I
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: didn't have attitude. I'm trying to get away, not by okay,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: but you did say hit and run though, okay? I said,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: can you look around my vehicle seeing the damage? Walked around,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: y'all don't see anything. I said, Can I go? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: you can go. You go you go. But these are
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the type of things that people of color, especially African
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: American men, to have to deal with. Tell us some
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: of your experiences and what runs through your head by
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: when you're stopped by the police, black hard white police officer.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: You explained a lot of it. It's you know, I
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: tell people all the time, I've never been the war,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: but I kind of understand what. So just talk about
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: how PTSD feels. Like I was saying, it's a lot
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: of the same experiences that you have. You described exactly
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: what I've been through. Um, it's the PTSD feeling of
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: your hand starts sweating, you get nervous. You know you've
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: got nothing wrong, and you're still wondering, are they're gonna
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: put those lights on or they're gonna pull me over?
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: If they do pull me over, what they're gonna pull
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: me over for? What kind of excuses it? So I've
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: had everything where I've been pulled over from UM. Like
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: I said, the first time, when I was twelve years
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: old on an academic team trip in South Georgia. My
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: team was predominantly a bunch of black kids. We had
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: a few white kids on there, and then the other
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: middle schools there were almost all black, and we were
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: outside playing cards outside the hotel and they came there
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: and they told us that, oh, yeah, there was a
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: robbery here in the area, and you guys fit the
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: description of the robber. Come to find out, it was
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: a twenty nine year old person, was like six five,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: two hundred forty pounds. And here we are a bunch
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: of middle school kids, nobody calling them five six, nobody
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: way more than a hundred and fifty pounds. So can
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: wet and so you know, it's that I've been pulled
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: over for wearing my seatbelt the wrong way. He said, um,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: you know, and I asked him, how how do I
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: wear my seatbelt the wrong way? I've been stopped for
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: being in my own neighborhood countless time, just like you said, people, well,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: you know, we don't have any black people living in
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: this neighborhood. What are you doing here? And you show
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: him your idea and it's like, oh, you do live here.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: And actually the impetus that got me to get the
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: app started. What got me going, honestly, was three months
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: after Mike Brown that December. It was, um, I had
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: I got pulled over three times in about a week
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: and a half time frame by the Cab County p D.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: The first time the officer pulled me over, literally he
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: told me, asked me what I was doing in my
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: own neighborhood when I saw show him my I d was, oh,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: you do live here? Okay, I'm sorry, You're free to go.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: And so the second time I got pulled over, it's
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: the only time that the judge has ever apologized in court.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: The officers printed on the ticket that I was at
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: the stop sign for three seconds and not for five seconds.
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: And so when I went to court, that judge looked
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: at it and literally as that you haven't stopped. Watch
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: where you are on your you know phone timing, Like
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: how you know it's three or not four dot five.
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: And so he was like, I'm sorry for it's the time.
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: You're free to go. And the third time I got
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: stopped is really what got the impetus to get the
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: app going, because like, I've been thinking about it for
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: a while but had made the move, and this was
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: times like okay, now we had to make this move.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: And so this time, um, I was headed to work.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: It was December twelve, heading to work. Another time I
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: was working for insurance. I was selling insurance at all
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: State and like, I've just been pulled over twice in
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: the previous nine days by that state department. Officer gets
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: behind me and so I don't think any of it.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: I drive a mill. He's still behind me. I switched lane.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: He switches lanes behind me. I switched another lane. He
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: goes behind me. I'm like, okay, he's about to pull
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: me over finding customs lightestow pulls me over, gets over there,
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: and I'm like wondering why I got stopped because I'm like, hey,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I know I have my insurance. Is good. I just
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: got pulled over. I had the other tickets. There was
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: nothing else going on. So he pulls me over. He
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: tells me, oh, there's a warm for your arrest and
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: I told him, no, there's not, and he was like,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: how are you so sure. I was like, I literally
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: got put it by your same department two times in
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: the past week and a half, and no, none of
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: them mentioned the warmth of my arrest. So then his
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: attempt to get around that was then telling me, well,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: maybe the system for that. And when he told me that,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: I showed him the ticket I got from the same
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: department before and said, well, sir, if the systems were
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: down last week, how is he able to print out
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: a ticket. It's not a handwritten ticket. This is the
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: printed ticket he gave. So how was the system able
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: to print this ticket but not tell him? I had
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: a warmth of my arrest, and so had he gone
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: back to the car and let me chill to check
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: on that, they probably wouldn't even be in half right now.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: But instead of doing that, he said, well, while I
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: check on this warmth, my h D, I'm gonna have
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: to put you in handcuffs and put you in the
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: backs of my car. So he cuffed me, sat me
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: in the back of his car for what seemed like
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: ten to fifteen minutes, while instead of calling in that warrant,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: he wasn't he was there. I watched them walking around
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: my car with a flashlight trying to see if he
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: could find something in there. And he gets that and
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: comes back he was I always say it valid, warrant
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: is free to go. So I asked him, well, where
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: was the warrant from this? I got his badge number,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: I got his name, and my mom and I went
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: and made a complaint the next day. It's the only
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: time I've made a complaint to the police department. But
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: I could have had a lot more. But you know,
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: it was at that time because I was just set
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: up and so I made a complaint. They say he
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: did nothing wrong, do something about it. So when I
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: started the app, it wasn't even to start a business.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: It wasn't to make money. It wasn't anything more so than, hey,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: if I get pulled over, I want my mom. I
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: wanted my girlfriend at the time you know where I was.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: I would know my best friends to know where I was.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: And I wanted the video of anything happened so people
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: could not argue about, hey, what did he do wrong?
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: And so literally that's what started the whole process of
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: getting it was that stop of him night letting me
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: call my job, not letting me call my mom, and
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: him basically profiling me and pulling me over for no reason.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: It was like, you're free to go, because I told him,
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: I felt like one of those fishing those catching release ponds.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: You're gonna catch me at least eat me, don't just
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: waste my time. So so that's so that's that's what
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: got the impetus to start thinking about creating something to
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: start protecting people when they got stopped. Imagine this, because
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: I've never been handcuffed, I've never been seated in the
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: back of up. Now let's return to money making conversations
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: with McDonald. It's uh, it was for me, it was
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: just dehumanizing, That's what it was. It was. I know here,
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: I am. I'm a grown man who hasn't done no wrong,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: who has been fine, and you know, I'm like, got
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: no criminal records or anything like that, and I can't
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: do anything about that. You know, if I fight you,
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: if I do anything, you have the license to shoot
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: and kill me. So all I have is just to
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: sit here and take it and hopefully it comes out
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: like there where it says what you're accusing me of
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: is completely false and I'm free to go. So honestly,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: that's like the last time I actually, like I had
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: a heavy, heavy cry, you know, was because after I
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: just felt like you weren't a man, you weren't even
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: a human anymore, And it was just a the humanism
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: of feeling to know that you've done nothing wrong and
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: to have those handcuffs without you sitting the back of
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: that car and just wondering, hey, is he gonna make
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: up something. And for me, I'm thinking, what if he
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: planned something in my car and says, now I found
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: all these drugs, I found this gun or something like that,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: and then what am I gonna have to do next?
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: Do I have legal recourse? What do I have to
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: do there? So those are all the things I think
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: about sitting in the back of that car. Is okay,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: how can I contact my mother? How can I contact
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: my brother? How can I contact my girlfriend? Like? How
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: can I let my best friends know? Just different things
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: like That's what brand through my mind that whole time. Well,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: you know the thing that what I'm talking to. He's
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: an activist and founder of Legal Equalizer, a mobile after
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: allows you just to capture police encounters after being pulled over,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: automatically notifying loved ones in real time, provide information on
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: legal rights involving that encounter, and receive legal advice at
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: the scene. It contains laws for all fifty states. Now,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: when you when you when you start an app like this,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: the first thing people go, how can you how? How
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: does it work? I'm trying to get into your head
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: now and develop the Legal Equalize you know, like I say,
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: all ideas start out of frustration. All ideas start from
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: trying to make life easier or much more or less complicated.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: In this case, this is a This is a social
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: activist app. I would like to believe from a standpoint
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: of it can physically protect you, can keep you, uh,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: protect your rights, and also educate you about your rights
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: on the spot. Now is it okay? So walk me
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: through how it would actually work if a police officer,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: because this is a video as well. How would it
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: work if something I'm sitting in there? Do I hold
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: my phone up and he sees me holding the phone up?
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: How does it work? By so, now we know in Georgia,
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: in most states you can't have your phone in your hand.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: You have to have some kind of stand up there
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: for the hands free and so we have the app
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: there and so we can do a couple of ways.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: So if you get pulled over, So when you first
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: log into the app, what happens is you go through
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: the log in process and ask you for access to
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: your contacts. When you get there, you're gonna pick at
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: least five people, um that you trust, friends, family, or whoever.
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: And those are your emergency contacts. Now within the app,
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: we have laws for all fifty States rights and things
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: that you can do and all that stuff. We don't
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: want you doing that when you get pulled over. That's
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: a little bit too late for that people to get
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: educated before all that kind of stuff. So now if
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: you see those lights get pulled over, you can do
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: one of two things. You can say hey, you know,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: you say Serie activate legal equal I said hey, Google
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: activate legal openly the helpen up that you can do
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: it by voice, or you can just open up with
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: your hands. So the app now opens up within two seconds.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: You can hit that. But that says I need help
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: for and the list comes out and says I need
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: helpful police stop, general, emergency, domestic violence, situation, immigration, ice,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: active shooter. So you put I need help for police
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: stop and you hit that set and it says those
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: people that Texas says, hey, I've been stopped by the police.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: My location is and it gives me your exact location.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: If you don't hear from me in the next thirty minutes,
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: police call the police department this area and also has
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: a Google pinpoint now there, so within five seconds, those
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: people already have that text message, No you've been stopped.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Now you don't have whatever your choice is. Next, you
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: can either now choose to record that encounter and we're
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: gonna have that recording saved onto the phone, or what
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: we're having in this new release which we've been testing
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: out this morning and this past week, you can now
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: hit a live video option and those people are gonna
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: gonna notification you have a live video, and just like
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: we're talking now, by the time that police caught that
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: police obviously comes to your door, you're gonna have those
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: people on your phone looking right back at them, and
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: the office is gonna be able to see them. So
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: it's gonna be like you have eyewitnesses and they can
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: record that encounter in real time and a few months
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: and then a few months what we're about to do,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: it's we're about to then have it where you can
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: then find an attorney in that area and pay an
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: attorney what would be a fraction of the cost or
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: cheaper than your ticket, and have the attorney been joined
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: that call in real time and listen to why you
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: gotta stopped, and tell you what to do and give
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: you that real time legal advice. And so that's how
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: the app works. Very simple. All that can be done
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: within seconds and you just be chilling to wait for
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: the officer to come to your door. Well, I I
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: love the fact that, first of all, using your voice,
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: because that's what I do when I get my vehic car,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: I'd say navigate to or call somebody. That really simplifies
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: the process for sure. And so but when you when
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: you develop something like this, were there naysayers that job?
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: They really came into your lane of going. First of all,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: you go, you got this, why the big y? Then
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: you got this that's unnecessary? And that, Okay, who are you?
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: You've never done anything like that? Were those sort of the
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: the statements that came your way by when you were
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: trying to put together the legal equalizer? Um, it was
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: the it was that you know, I'm being anti police. Um,
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: it was you know, you don't know what you're doing.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: I'm not a lawyer. So I was like, you don't
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: know the law, you don't know any of that stuff.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: Why would use this? Why can't I do that? Well,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: the officers might shoot somebody pleasing your app And so
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: I just have to talk people through common sense, right,
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: and I tell them if if somebody has my the
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: phone out and then have it out, you think the
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: officers gonna shoot them cause they have my app open.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I was like, that's not the issue. Also shooting somebody
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: because of their phone. We have a big that whatever's
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: on the phone, and we need to go back to
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: that root cause. So yeah, So it's been you know,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: and like I said, when I started, I don't know
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: how to code. Still I don't know how to code.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: I don't know how to build. I had to ask people,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: and my whole time, I've had nothing but black coodas
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: as well to come help build me with this. So
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: I used to work at Apple the you know, in
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: the store, the business team making sales. So when I
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: got done, I was like somebody in the store. I
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: got to know somebody that can code. So I asked
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: them and I had somebody to build my very first
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: version of that act and we need to upgrade that.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: I had to go ask somebody else, and I knew
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: in tech in Atlanta. Was like, hey, Rodney, can you
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: find me somebody that can code because my old coder
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: can't do the things I need to get done. And
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: now we have somebody that's been here for three or
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: four years and knows what to dude, knows the vision
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: and can code and build our stuff out as well.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: Here's interesting thing, because you know you need help from
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: the community, you need help from the society, and you
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: definitely need help from politicians when you're trying to do
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: anything like this because some people couldn't throw the word controversial,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: put the word council culture. Uh claim that you anti blue,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: you are you want to defund the police. But one
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: are some of the things. Are three things at least
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: at the community to society in general can do, especially
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: positive politicians can do to help you address the root
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: of the problems that you're trying to solve. With the
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: legal equalizer, Um, well, politicians can do a lot to
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: start with. For one, I completely disagree with qualified immunity.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: I think they need to get rid of that because,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: like I got tell a police officer, if you're a
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: good police officer, you're doing your job, you ain't gotta
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: worry about geting suit. But right now, they can beat
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: you up, they can shoot you, they can stab you,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: they can do whatever to you, and technically you cannot
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: sue that in with your officer just because of that job.
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: So I asked them all the time, would you go
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: to a doctor that can just do whatever, and you
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: can sue them. If they messed up, you probably asked why.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: And so it's that same issue with qualified immunity is
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: one issue I have with policing. The second issue I
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: have the politicians I think well, and and policing is
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: local as well. So that's another thing we didn't talk about.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: It's not you know, federal at all that and so
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: an the other thing we can do with policing as
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: well is also in terms of the hiring and looking
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: the quality of officers were hiring. The fact that you know,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: somebody can go six months of training and now be
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: licensed to kill somebody. When you have attorneys have to
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: go to law school, you have other people have to
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: go to all kinds of training to get that. And
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: so personally I told police officers, if I was in charge,
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: I would cut the police departments by a lot, but
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: I would pay the officers there are a lot more
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: and I give those guys a lot more money and
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: a lot more resources because when you look at crimes
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: right now, they don't solve the majority of crimes. The
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: most crimes go completely unsolved. When you look at how
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: many thousands of hundreds of thousands of rape kits we
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: have that don't keep it checked right now, so they're
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: not worrying or healing. Murders are going unsolved, and so
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: we're not giving them those resources. We have officers that
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: we're paying money to just do traffic stuff, to basically
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: sit down the highway and see if you're speeding and
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: do all that stuff, rather than actually dealing with the
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: real issues and society and stuff. Um. A third thing
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: I think we can do is um deal with those
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: police union contracts, because those contracts are what givesing that
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: qualified immunity. They're what gives them the right to do
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: a lot of this stuff. They're what like in Georgia,
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: until a few years ago, if the officers somebody, they
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: were able to sit in that grand jury room and testify,
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: but they couldn't even get cross examined. And so imagine
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: that you're sitting there, Okay, I can hear his side
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: of the story, I can't ask them any questions or
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: anything like that, which is why we didn't have many
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: officers even indicted. And so, and these were all deals
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: that were made by these unions or by these organizations
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: police groups that come here and they'll defend any officer
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: or anything wrong right or whatever, and I can keep
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: going like with these things. You know, another thing I
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: was hoping for with officers is that make the officers
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: live in the neighborhoods they work. Too many times we
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: have officers that live thirty forty five minutes away and
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: drive into the inner city and drive the other places
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: them know nobody there, and they assume things about these people,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: and they use as solutions to work do that rather
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: than the police in their own neighborhoods, rather than knowing, hey,
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: that's Johnny over there. Johnny has had multiple personality disorder.
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: The whole neighborhood knows. Instead of coming, hey with a gun,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: let's call somebody talked Johnny down and work with that.
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: You know, that's Gym over there. You know Jim has
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: a drinking problem. You know, he'll get drunk and he'll
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: do this. But instead of getting roughed up with Jim,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: we can take it here, let him sober down. We
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: know that his momba lives over there, you know, we
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: know his dad and his girlfriend. Like. It's things like
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: that we can do. So it's common sense things we
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: can do to help improve policing and make it simpler.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: But anytime you want to make those suggestions as you're
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: anti police, you're this and that. And even when we
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: talk about the defunding the police, it's not defunding the police.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: I tell him, people used the wrong term there. You
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: just call it reallocating your money, reallocating your funds because
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: all that does is for instant Atlanta. If we don't
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: spendt of our city budget on policing, we can spend
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: thirty percent of our city by john police. Take that
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: extra ten percent, put it back in the inner city neighborhoods.
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: Build grocery stores there to have healthy food instead of
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: having junk stuff there. That gives people jobs, you know,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: give people opportunities in those areas where now, okay, we
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: got people constructing this grocery store, we got people working
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: the story store. We need man just here. These kids
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: can come here to be cashiers. Oh now that I
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: out here doing the water boys stuff. They're not coming
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: in crimes that We've invested that money back into the community.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: And now all these so called crimes that's going wild, oh,
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: a lot of that has been solved because the roots
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: of that crime, the root cause of those crimes are
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: now being solved. And so these are some of the
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: things I wish politicians and all leaders would think about
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: more and add that more when it comes to you know,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: criminal justice, public safety. Hey, you know I got my
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: show is gonna go live on w c OK starting
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: in September seven. I want to bring you back. It's
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: for Atlanta because what you're talking about, you know, it's
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: gone beyond the legal equalizer Apple, which is a fantastic
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: reason I brought you on it, but the whole concept,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: especially when you hit the water Boys, and that goes
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: into your volunteering at the homeless shelters and local churches
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: and helping people in the Fair Fight and New Georgia
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: Project organization. I want to bring you back really talk
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: about that, because I think that's one of the reasons
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: why I want to take my show live. I want
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: to be able to take phone calls. I want to
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: people to hear people like you have that passion. I'm
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: not trying to turn into a militant conversation. I want
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: to create a conversation, and a lot of times the
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: conversation is not created with the right information. And that's
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: what angered me the most about the media to day
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: because they fund the bad information, they promote the bad information.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: And the class of examples that when when Cuomo's brother
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: doesn't even mention him in the news and he's the
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: headline news every day. Okay, you mean you can pick
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: at you news now, that's how we're doing new and
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: that you don't have to talk about your brother even
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: when he retired, you when he resigned, you ain't talking
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: about it. So now lets me know that news in
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: general does not give us the right message. So but
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: I want to thank you for coming on the show
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: talk about the lead week with Lizer. It's a downloadable app.

- 1:53:00Speaker 1: a unique way. Here's what Justin Rhodes had to say.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: When you have success in something old people being success
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: because people being success maybe monetary or if you're getting placements,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: or if you're aligned with certain individuals, and yes, that's
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: success to a point, but the ultimate success is what
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: makes you feel good. And I love music, but just
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: being a music producer only and it's a sense of
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: my thing is as much as I love music, production
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: is so much more to that I have so much
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: more talent. If you want to listen to this four
