- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome. It is Verdict with Ted Cruz. Week in Review,
- 0:03Speaker 1: Ben Ferguson with you, and these are the stories that
- 0:06Speaker 1: you may have missed that we talked about this week.
- 0:08Speaker 1: First up, Chuck Schumer and the Democrats. They wanted the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Department of Home Insecurities shut down and why to hurt
- 0:15Speaker 1: as much as possible. We've got all of their reasoning
- 0:19Speaker 1: behind it and what they're still trying to do. Also,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Jack Smith and Arctic Frost. The Democrats went all in
- 0:26Speaker 1: to destroy Donald Trump and the people around him. It
- 0:30Speaker 1: didn't work, and now what we're witnessing is truly shocking.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We have the latest details of what's been exposed on
- 0:37Speaker 1: that as well. And finally an update on the Save
- 0:40Speaker 1: America Act. Where we are now and are we going
- 0:43Speaker 1: to get it done? It's the Week in Review and
- 0:46Speaker 1: it starts right now. Go over the list of what
- 0:50Speaker 1: has already been given. As you're being held I say,
- 0:53Speaker 1: as you, as the American people, as the travelers are
- 0:56Speaker 1: being held hostage.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Well, and let's take more fundamentally. The DHS Appropriations Bill
- 1:04Speaker 2: was a bipartisan bill negotiated between Republicans and Democrats that
- 1:08Speaker 2: came out of the Appropriations Committee with bipartisan support. So
- 1:13Speaker 2: the Democrats had all of these different reforms that they
- 1:16Speaker 2: put into DHS that Republicans agreed to. By the way,
- 1:20Speaker 2: none of those reforms have happened because they won't allow
- 1:22Speaker 2: it to be funded. Yeah, the White House has been
- 1:26Speaker 2: trying to negotiate with Democrats, although, as I said, for
- 1:29Speaker 2: more than two weeks, the Democrats wouldn't even meet. They
- 1:31Speaker 2: had nothing to say. This was while TSA was not
- 1:34Speaker 2: getting paid, while DHS was not getting paid. The Democrats
- 1:37Speaker 2: position was, no, we won't even sit and talk. And
- 1:40Speaker 2: it's why I said, well.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And that's how you know it's premeditated. The point that
- 1:43Speaker 1: you made earlier like this is clearly they decided this
- 1:48Speaker 1: is the issue we're going to go on, and we
- 1:50Speaker 1: are premeditating this and we wanted to hurt.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually even different from premeditated. I think to
- 1:57Speaker 2: some extent, they're in a box. Their base hates ice.
- 2:02Speaker 2: If you're a Democrat senator, look here, I'm gonna tell
- 2:04Speaker 2: you what, John Fetterman tweet tweeted this weekend. Elon Musk
- 2:09Speaker 2: stepped in and said, I would like to offer to
- 2:12Speaker 2: pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse
- 2:16Speaker 2: that is so negatively affecting the lives of so many Americans.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It was incredibly generous. Elon is a patriot. Here's what
- 2:23Speaker 2: John Fetterman said, This is incredibly generous. TSA agents across
- 2:29Speaker 2: the country are relying on food pantries and community donations
- 2:33Speaker 2: just to get by. I remain the lone Democrat to
- 2:37Speaker 2: vote with my Republican colleagues to fully fund DHS and
- 2:40Speaker 2: get people paid. It should never come to this point,
- 2:44Speaker 2: So Fetterman speaking the truth. Here's the problem. Most of
- 2:49Speaker 2: the rest of the Democrat senators. They're in a situation
- 2:52Speaker 2: where they feel if they vote to fund ICE, their
- 2:56Speaker 2: angry open border activists will never forgive them, and I
- 3:00Speaker 2: think a lot of them are engaged in political cowardice.
- 3:03Speaker 2: They're unwilling to vote to FUNDIZ. Mind you, that literally
- 3:07Speaker 2: means that they don't want murderers arrested, they don't want
- 3:11Speaker 2: child rapists arrested, they don't want gang bangers arrested, ices,
- 3:16Speaker 2: narco terrorists. I mean, the ICE is who is arresting
- 3:21Speaker 2: criminals in the interior of the United States. The Democrat
- 3:25Speaker 2: political reality is their angry base hates them so much.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Look these are the same people that are abolished the police.
- 3:32Speaker 2: These are the same people that are abolish ice. And
- 3:36Speaker 2: so I'll tell you this week, Republican Senators, when we're
- 3:41Speaker 2: in session, we have lunch together every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- 3:43Speaker 2: And then actually we were here throughout throughout the weekend.
- 3:46Speaker 2: We were in DC, so we had lunch Friday, Saturday,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and Sunday as well. And what I'm arguing to my colleagues,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I said, listen, I think the Democrats are so wildly
- 3:58Speaker 2: unreasonable that they may be content to leave DHS defunded
- 4:04Speaker 2: for the entire year.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Really, they don't.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Care about the consequences of what they're doing. They don't
- 4:09Speaker 2: care about the fact that every TSA agent would have
- 4:13Speaker 2: to quit and you would literally shut down every airport
- 4:15Speaker 2: in the country like it's there. They believe we can
- 4:19Speaker 2: blame it on Trump and the Republicans and and and
- 4:23Speaker 2: that they are there's not a common ground of reasonableness.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you, Sean. Sean Duffy said on
- 4:30Speaker 1: on I think it was facin Nation Sunday morning that
- 4:33Speaker 1: he said, if you if you think it's bad, now,
- 4:35Speaker 1: wait till this coming week when you miss another it's
- 4:38Speaker 1: gonna it's gonna be worse. And his point was you
- 4:42Speaker 1: will have so many people quit that now you've got
- 4:45Speaker 1: a problem that you don't have a big enough workforce
- 4:47Speaker 1: even when you get back to being funded. How concerned
- 4:50Speaker 1: are you about that? Is that part of the Democrats plan?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Like yeah, like it's it's kind of the the way
- 4:55Speaker 1: that they did would defund the police. Well, if we
- 4:57Speaker 1: can't directly do it, we'll just drive him so crazy
- 4:59Speaker 1: that they quit their jobs. They don't want to be
- 5:01Speaker 1: police anymore.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I think plan is giving them too much credit.
- 5:05Speaker 2: They don't have a plan. They're just obeying their angry
- 5:09Speaker 2: activists who are just screaming. They're just engaged in a
- 5:12Speaker 2: primal scream. And So what I told my colleagues is, listen,
- 5:15Speaker 2: if we're working with people who are objectively unreasonable and
- 5:19Speaker 2: who may well say, we will never vote to fund
- 5:22Speaker 2: ice again. Here's what I've suggested. All Right, fine, if
- 5:26Speaker 2: that's the reality, we should get the Democrats to fund
- 5:32Speaker 2: all of DHS, accept ice, carve ice out. Now you
- 5:36Speaker 2: might say, okay, that's a terrible idea, because then Ice
- 5:37Speaker 2: doesn't get funded. Remember we've already funded ICE for four years.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So agree to fund everything, accept ICE. And then when
- 5:44Speaker 2: I urge my colleagues is if they force us to
- 5:46Speaker 2: do that, we should immediately take up a reconciliation bill
- 5:51Speaker 2: and fund ICE for the next ten years and what
- 5:54Speaker 2: I advocated for, and we should increase ICE's budget by
- 5:57Speaker 2: ten percent. So if that's going to be the price,
- 6:00Speaker 2: we Democrats will never again vote for border security. We
- 6:04Speaker 2: will never again vote for ICE.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Then, at the end of the day, the only way
- 6:09Speaker 2: I see to solve this problem reconciliation. Remember we've talked
- 6:13Speaker 2: about this before. It is the one procedural mechanism the
- 6:17Speaker 2: Senate can use that does not require sixty votes. Yeah,
- 6:21Speaker 2: that just Republicans can pass it. And so if the
- 6:25Speaker 2: Democrats would agree, we'll fund all of DHS except ICE.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The next week, we should come back and do a
- 6:31Speaker 2: reconciliation and fund ICE for a decade. Because I'm not
- 6:34Speaker 2: convinced that these these loans are going to change their
- 6:38Speaker 2: mind in the next ten years.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great point for people that are going
- 6:41Speaker 1: to be traveling this week. What is your gut do
- 6:43Speaker 1: you think there's a what are the chances that we
- 6:46Speaker 1: could actually get something done here where then things could
- 6:48Speaker 1: start to go back to normal, say of going in
- 6:50Speaker 1: the in the direction they're going now, which is these
- 6:52Speaker 1: two three and four hour plus wits.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Look, I don't know. I think there is a real
- 6:58Speaker 2: urgency in the Senate to try to get this resolved
- 7:01Speaker 2: before the Easter holiday. The question is are the Democrats
- 7:06Speaker 2: going to budge that. There are a few of the
- 7:10Speaker 2: kind of the Democrats who occasionally will reach a deal,
- 7:15Speaker 2: who are making noises like they want to, but Chuck
- 7:18Speaker 2: Schumer doesn't care. Chuck Schumer is terrified of being primary
- 7:23Speaker 2: from the left. And in fact, I want to I
- 7:26Speaker 2: want to read a little bit from a story in
- 7:29Speaker 2: the in the wash in the Wall Street Journal about
- 7:31Speaker 2: Chuck Schumer. So he has been wildly left wing. Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 2: so much so that he's now done the longest shutdown
- 7:39Speaker 2: in government history. And then he's turned around and uh
- 7:43Speaker 2: turn turned around and has shut the TSA down and
- 7:46Speaker 2: refused to pay them. Here's a story that just came
- 7:49Speaker 2: out in the Wall Street Journal. Growing frustration with Chuck
- 7:52Speaker 2: Schumer spurs talk of replacing him. And you might say, oh,
- 7:57Speaker 2: thank god. Maybe some Democrats are saying this is it's
- 8:00Speaker 2: two obstructionists. You're too unreasonable. Nope, nope. You know who
- 8:03Speaker 2: wants to replace him, the left wing because he's not
- 8:08Speaker 2: burn it down enough. Yeah, and let me read the
- 8:11Speaker 2: beginning of this article. Senator Chris Murphy was dining with
- 8:15Speaker 2: progressive activists at a French restaurant in Washington's Georgetown neighborhood.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Could you be more cliche as a Democrat than that?
- 8:21Speaker 2: I suppose? You know, maybe a vegan French restaurant would
- 8:26Speaker 2: make it even better. When their conversation about how to
- 8:29Speaker 2: advance their legislative priorities turned to a thorny question what
- 8:34Speaker 2: to do about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. To the
- 8:38Speaker 2: surprise of some attendees, the Connecticut Democrat, a rising star
- 8:41Speaker 2: in the party's left flank, responded that some lawmakers had
- 8:45Speaker 2: been doing informal counts to see whether enough votes existed
- 8:50Speaker 2: to remove the New York Democrat from his leadership position.
- 8:53Speaker 2: According to people familiar with the mid February dinner, Murphy
- 8:56Speaker 2: explained that Schumer had enough backing to remain as leader,
- 9:00Speaker 2: but the disclosure stood out nonetheless because it revealed the
- 9:03Speaker 2: frustration inside the Senate had reached a high enough level
- 9:07Speaker 2: that some Democrats were actively contemplating how to al Schumer Wow.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Murphy is among a group of senators and top advisors
- 9:15Speaker 2: who've grown increasingly dissatisfied with Schumer's leadership, According to people
- 9:19Speaker 2: familiar with the conversation who else. That group includes Senator
- 9:23Speaker 2: Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who has been initiated conversations with
- 9:27Speaker 2: other senators to gauge frustrations with Schumer. Some of the
- 9:30Speaker 2: people said Senator Tina Smith at Minnesota has also been
- 9:34Speaker 2: active in discussions whether frustration with Schumer. In an interview,
- 9:39Speaker 2: Murphy said he's frequently asked about Senate leadership, but he
- 9:43Speaker 2: doesn't have account of who would vote to remove Schumer
- 9:45Speaker 2: and doesn't recall mentioning one. In more than four dozen
- 9:50Speaker 2: interviews with Democrats, senators and others, many said the concern
- 9:55Speaker 2: about Schumer's leadership was widespread. But what are the mad
- 10:00Speaker 2: at and this is where it's amazing. Murphy, Warren, and
- 10:04Speaker 2: Smith are part of a batch of senators dubbed fight Club,
- 10:09Speaker 2: who are particularly incensed by Schumer's approach to the midterms.
- 10:15Speaker 2: This group of progressives believes that Schumer favors centrist candidates
- 10:19Speaker 2: in some key races, so their whole argument, even though
- 10:24Speaker 2: Schumer is just saying let it burn. I mean, reminds
- 10:27Speaker 2: me of Heath Ledger in the dark night as Batman
- 10:30Speaker 2: just saying let it burn. Who cares what happens if
- 10:32Speaker 2: their terror attacks not Chuck Schumer's problem. If every airport
- 10:36Speaker 2: is shut down, not Chuck Schumer's problem. If people can't
- 10:40Speaker 2: pay their rent or mortgage, not Chuck Schumer's problem. And
- 10:43Speaker 2: yet the Elizabeth Warrens of the party say not enough,
- 10:47Speaker 2: You need to do more. I don't even know what
- 10:49Speaker 2: Moore would look like, but that is the reality of
- 10:54Speaker 2: where Democrats are. And as long as the media does
- 10:57Speaker 2: what Greta did and what so many other CNN does
- 11:01Speaker 2: an MSNBC does, as long as they keep covering it
- 11:05Speaker 2: up and pretending no, no, no, it's not the Democrats who
- 11:08Speaker 2: are shutting it down, They'll keep doing the exact same thing.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, they really will. I got to ask you an
- 11:13Speaker 1: audible question real quick, because you mentioned you're in DC
- 11:15Speaker 1: over the weekend. Give us a thirty second update on
- 11:18Speaker 1: where we are with the Save Act.
- 11:21Speaker 2: We are continuing to debate it, but right now every
- 11:24Speaker 2: Democrat votes no, and we are not doing a talking filibuster.
- 11:29Speaker 2: We are not requiring the Democrats to a talking filibuster.
- 11:33Speaker 2: So I think the expectation is we're going to vote
- 11:36Speaker 2: on it this week, and if nothing changes, the vote
- 11:39Speaker 2: is going to go down. I'm President Trump is deeply frustrated,
- 11:43Speaker 2: as you know, as I talked about, and we did
- 11:45Speaker 2: an earlier podcast which if folks want a deep dive
- 11:47Speaker 2: on the Save America Act, you could have have an
- 11:49Speaker 2: entire podcast last week devoted to explaining what was going on.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I think we should use the procedural rules to force
- 11:57Speaker 2: the Democrats to stand and talk and talk and talk
- 12:00Speaker 2: and do a full talking filibuster. But we're not right now.
- 12:03Speaker 1: So has Trump waited on that idea? By the way,
- 12:05Speaker 1: I mean, oh you got to talk?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:07Speaker 1: No, no, what does he say?
- 12:08Speaker 2: He's vocally in favor of it, But in order to
- 12:11Speaker 2: do it, we have to have fifty Republicans stand together,
- 12:15Speaker 2: and we don't have fifty. That that's the fundamental problem
- 12:19Speaker 2: is is.
- 12:19Speaker 1: A is it two or three?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Look, it's hard to tell. We have fifty three Republicans,
- 12:25Speaker 2: which means we can lose at most three. They are
- 12:29Speaker 2: at least four and potentially more that are knows and
- 12:32Speaker 2: and the problem is you have in particular Republicans who
- 12:35Speaker 2: are retiring, so they're not going to be on the ballot.
- 12:38Speaker 2: That makes it very hard for the White House to
- 12:40Speaker 2: pressure them if they're not they're not up for reelection.
- 12:43Speaker 2: There's not a whole lot there's not a whole lot
- 12:45Speaker 2: of leverage there.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Now, if you want to hear the rest of this conversation,
- 12:48Speaker 1: you can go back and listen to the full podcast
- 12:51Speaker 1: from earlier this week. Now onto story number two, Santa,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I want to finish the show with a really important subject,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and you've described it as bigger than Watergate. It's a
- 13:03Speaker 1: modern day Watergate, certainly, but we now have a dive
- 13:08Speaker 1: into the bombshell Senate Judiciary hearing on Arctic frost, and
- 13:13Speaker 1: you had a great statement, Center, and I want to
- 13:16Speaker 1: play it for everybody. This is how you kind of
- 13:18Speaker 1: described what's happening.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Watergate was about a handful of files in a single office.
- 13:24Speaker 2: This reached into tens of thousands of private communications, emails, records,
- 13:29Speaker 2: and personal data, tall records, bank records, donor lists, law
- 13:35Speaker 2: firm records, and other personal files relating to every major
- 13:39Speaker 2: conservative organization were subpoena.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Center that sums it up. This was a one hundred
- 13:47Speaker 1: percent weaponization of our Department of Justice to go after
- 13:51Speaker 1: Donald Trump and anyone they thought was important to him
- 13:54Speaker 1: that could help him win the White House. Again.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Well, that clip was from a hearing I chaired this
- 13:59Speaker 2: week of the Senate Judiciary Committee that was examining Arctic
- 14:02Speaker 2: Frost and was releasing yet more documents that showed the
- 14:06Speaker 2: massive scope of the abuse of power.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Look.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Watergate, at the end of the day was a handful
- 14:12Speaker 2: of Cuban burglars who broke into an office of the DNC,
- 14:16Speaker 2: and it was a failed burglar that didn't even succeed,
- 14:19Speaker 2: and it resulted in the President of the United States
- 14:21Speaker 2: resigning in disgrace. It resulted in more than forty people
- 14:25Speaker 2: being criminally prosecuted, many of them going to jail. By
- 14:29Speaker 2: any measure, Arctic Frost was orders of magnitude wars. You
- 14:34Speaker 2: had nearly two hundred subpoenas, You had more than four
- 14:37Speaker 2: hundred individuals and groups that were targeted. The Biden Department
- 14:41Speaker 2: of Justice issued subpoenas to get the phone records for
- 14:44Speaker 2: more than twenty percent of the Republicans in the Senate,
- 14:48Speaker 2: including yours. Truly, it was a massive abuse of power.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And the amazing thing is the Democrats don't care at all.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And one of the points I made at the hearing,
- 15:01Speaker 2: they are a bunch of Democrat senators sitting there at
- 15:03Speaker 2: the hearing, and I pointed out, not a one of
- 15:05Speaker 2: them is going to say a word. They don't care
- 15:08Speaker 2: about abusive power. For them, partisanship and partisan control is
- 15:13Speaker 2: all that mattered. And I contrasted it with what happened
- 15:16Speaker 2: in Watergate. Here, listen to what I had to say.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Fifty years ago, this nation was confronted with an abusive power,
- 15:22Speaker 2: and it responded not with indifference, but with accountability. I'll
- 15:26Speaker 2: tell you one of the big differences of Watergate versus
- 15:29Speaker 2: Arctic Frost. When Richard Nixon and his corrupt Attorney general
- 15:33Speaker 2: in his corrupt administration abused their law enforcement powers to
- 15:37Speaker 2: go after their political opponents, Republican senators stood up to
- 15:42Speaker 2: the president of their own party and defended the rule
- 15:45Speaker 2: of law. Where is even a single Democrat senator who
- 15:48Speaker 2: has said one word about this abuse of power.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You're right, by the way, they're all silent on it
- 15:54Speaker 1: because they don't care as long as it was spying
- 15:55Speaker 1: on you.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Literally, Yeah, and look, I will say what happened in Gate,
- 16:01Speaker 2: what actually ended in and when Richard Nixon resigned is
- 16:03Speaker 2: it was a group of senior Republican senators that drove
- 16:07Speaker 2: the sixteen blocks up Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House
- 16:10Speaker 2: and sat in the Oval office and they said, mister President,
- 16:13Speaker 2: you have a choice. You either resign or we will
- 16:17Speaker 2: impeach you and convict you and remove you from office.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And it was a moment of real political courage for
- 16:23Speaker 2: those senators to do that. I'm not a Richard Nixon fan.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I think he was utterly corrupt. As you know, Ben,
- 16:31Speaker 2: I've written four books. The third book I wrote was
- 16:34Speaker 2: called Justice Corrupted, How the Left has weaponized the legal System,
- 16:39Speaker 2: And the opening chapter of that book is a deep
- 16:41Speaker 2: dive into Watergate and it details the just absolute corruption
- 16:44Speaker 2: and abuse of power what Richard Nixon tried to do,
- 16:50Speaker 2: Barack Obama and now Joe Biden succeeded in doing. And
- 16:56Speaker 2: one of the real differences is Republicans were willing to
- 17:00Speaker 2: stand up and say no, this goes too far. There
- 17:03Speaker 2: are no Democrats willing to do so. And all right,
- 17:06Speaker 2: so there was a witness that the Democrats had called
- 17:09Speaker 2: who was a former senior agent of the FBI, and
- 17:13Speaker 2: he gave this whole testimony about how the FBI is
- 17:16Speaker 2: utterly beyond politics and it's impartial and it has no
- 17:19Speaker 2: partisan agenda at all. And I actually cross examined him
- 17:23Speaker 2: quite a bit, and I said, look, I agree with
- 17:25Speaker 2: what you're saying. That's what the FBI is supposed to be,
- 17:28Speaker 2: and that's what DOJ is supposed to be. And I'm
- 17:30Speaker 2: an alumnus of the Department of Justice. I served in
- 17:33Speaker 2: the George W. Bush Department of Justice, and it has
- 17:37Speaker 2: a more than century long tradition of being outside of politics,
- 17:42Speaker 2: not partisan at all. And I said, one of the
- 17:45Speaker 2: worst things that Barack Obama and especially Joe Biden did
- 17:49Speaker 2: is they corrupted it and turned DOJ in the FBI
- 17:52Speaker 2: into partisan tools. And this witness didn't want to admit it.
- 17:56Speaker 2: But here's one question I asked him. Give a listen.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Menendez is currently incarcerated in prison for corruption. And if
- 18:03Speaker 2: you've got evidence of criminal conduct of one individual, the
- 18:07Speaker 2: Department of Justice as an obligation to investigate that, would
- 18:11Speaker 2: you agree that's qualitatively different than a phishing expedition targeting
- 18:16Speaker 2: twenty percent of the Republicans in the Senate, would you
- 18:19Speaker 2: agree that's qualitatively different. I'm not familiar with the details
- 18:23Speaker 2: of either investigation, so I wouldn't want to speculate. Well,
- 18:26Speaker 2: let me ask you this. Would you be troubled if
- 18:29Speaker 2: tomorrow the Trump Department of Justice issued a subpoena for
- 18:33Speaker 2: the phone records of every Democrat that sits on the
- 18:35Speaker 2: Judiciary Committee, not if it was based on factual evidence,
- 18:39Speaker 2: specific and articulable effects. Well, let me be clear, I'd
- 18:42Speaker 2: be damn troubled. And that would be an abuse of power.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And I'm going to predict not a single Democrat is
- 18:47Speaker 2: going to say even a word about the abuse of
- 18:51Speaker 2: power on their side, and that double standard is troubling.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Senatorly, Senator, you're absolutely right there in the point that
- 18:58Speaker 1: you were making.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is amazing that nobody and by the way,
- 19:05Speaker 2: the entire hearing, the Democrats were completely silent. Like when
- 19:09Speaker 2: it came their turn to question, they just said orange
- 19:11Speaker 2: man bat they just said we hate Donald Trump. They
- 19:14Speaker 2: didn't acknowledge it. Look, one of the things that happened
- 19:17Speaker 2: in Arctic Frost is not only did you have Jack
- 19:19Speaker 2: Smith getting subpoenas for the phone records of twenty percent
- 19:25Speaker 2: of the Republicans in the Senate, and by the way,
- 19:26Speaker 2: also getting subpoenas and wire tapping Cash Patel, who was
- 19:32Speaker 2: then a private citizen an now is the director of
- 19:34Speaker 2: the FBI. They tapped the phones of Susie Wiles, who
- 19:40Speaker 2: was then the campaign manager. She was running Donald Trump's campaign.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I mean this was a political opposition effort. And by
- 19:47Speaker 2: the way, they taped her conversations with her lawyer, which
- 19:52Speaker 2: is illegal on any level if you look at the
- 19:55Speaker 2: subpoenas they issued for the senators. They also went to
- 19:59Speaker 2: Judge Boseberg, who is an extraordinarily partisan, left wing judge.
- 20:04Speaker 2: He's the favorite judge for these radical groups that have
- 20:07Speaker 2: been getting nationwide injunctions against various Trump policies. I chared
- 20:11Speaker 2: a hearing several months ago calling for Judge Boseburg to
- 20:13Speaker 2: be impeached and removed from office because he is so
- 20:16Speaker 2: extreme in Arctic frost. For every single Senator that Jack
- 20:22Speaker 2: Smith subpoenaed, he signed an order ordering the phone companies
- 20:26Speaker 2: not to disclose to us that they were subpoena on
- 20:29Speaker 2: our phone record. And in that order he concluded, the
- 20:32Speaker 2: court finds that we will destroy evidence. If we know
- 20:36Speaker 2: about it now, there is zero basis in fact to
- 20:40Speaker 2: make that finding. Look, i'm a member of the bar.
- 20:45Speaker 2: My integrity matters a great deal to me. I'm not
- 20:47Speaker 2: going to destroy evidence, and there are no facts that
- 20:49Speaker 2: could be introduced that would suggest I could. There's also
- 20:52Speaker 2: a federal statute prohibiting non disclosure orders for Senate records,
- 20:57Speaker 2: and yet Judge Boseburg violated the law. That was the
- 21:00Speaker 2: kind of abuse of power we saw in Arctic frost,
- 21:03Speaker 2: and it was truly unprecedented. It makes Watergates seem mild
- 21:06Speaker 2: by comparison.
- 21:07Speaker 1: No doubt. We're going to keep covering this, don't forget.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Download Vertic with Ted Cruise wherever you get your podcasts,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and if you're listening to this radio show, we do
- 21:15Speaker 1: it Monday, Wednesday Friday. If you're listening on the radio
- 21:17Speaker 1: right now, thank you for joining us, and we'll see
- 21:19Speaker 1: you back here on this station as well. Next week.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It is Vertic with Ted Cruise. We'll see you on
- 21:24Speaker 1: the podcast all week long as before. If you want
- 21:27Speaker 1: to hear the rest of this conversation on this topic,
- 21:30Speaker 1: you can go back and download the podcast from early
- 21:32Speaker 1: this week to hear the entire thing. I want to
- 21:35Speaker 1: get back to the big story number three of the
- 21:38Speaker 1: week you may have missed. Let's give an update on
- 21:40Speaker 1: the latest of the Save Act and Chuck Schumer. The Democrats,
- 21:44Speaker 1: they said they supported voter ID, but then they immediately
- 21:47Speaker 1: blocked you guys and your amendment to require it. Welcome
- 21:51Speaker 1: to Democrats. You know, do as I say, not as
- 21:53Speaker 1: I do.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Well, that's exactly right. So I'm an original sponsor of
- 21:58Speaker 2: the Save America Act. I've been helping lead the fight
- 22:00Speaker 2: to pass the Save America Act. We should be passing it.
- 22:03Speaker 2: The only way to get it passed is we need
- 22:06Speaker 2: to stand together and force the Democrats to do a
- 22:09Speaker 2: talking filibuster. Unfortunately, to do that, we need fifty Republicans
- 22:13Speaker 2: who are willing to stand and fight and be all
- 22:15Speaker 2: unified together. We don't have those votes right now. I
- 22:18Speaker 2: have been making that case for weeks on ends to
- 22:21Speaker 2: my colleagues. We're not there yet, and it is frustrating.
- 22:25Speaker 2: By the way, we did a podcast two weeks ago
- 22:28Speaker 2: we broke down the details of exactly how a talking
- 22:30Speaker 2: filibuster would work, how using the existing Senate rules to
- 22:34Speaker 2: force the Democrats to do like Jimmy Stewart and mister
- 22:37Speaker 2: Smith goes to Washington to force the Democrats to do
- 22:40Speaker 2: like I did when I filibustered for twenty one hours
- 22:43Speaker 2: talking continuously against Obamacare in twenty thirteen. We have not
- 22:48Speaker 2: done that yet, but I will say so. The Save
- 22:50Speaker 2: America Act has two major elements. Number one, it requires
- 22:56Speaker 2: people to show proof of American citizenship to register to vote,
- 23:00Speaker 2: a basic common sense step. Number two, it requires photo
- 23:04Speaker 2: ID to vote. Well, the Democrats defense that they really
- 23:08Speaker 2: hate provision one showing proof of citizenship, and they argued, oh,
- 23:12Speaker 2: some people can't do it. Some people can't do it.
- 23:14Speaker 2: It's nonsense, but that's what they argued. And in the
- 23:17Speaker 2: course of it, a whole lot of them said, we're
- 23:19Speaker 2: okay with photo ID, which at some level is not
- 23:22Speaker 2: surprising because photo ID. Eighty three percent of Americans support
- 23:27Speaker 2: photo ID to vote, eighty one percent of Hispanic support
- 23:30Speaker 2: photo ID to vote, eighty one percent of Democrats support
- 23:33Speaker 2: photo ID to vote, seventy five percent of African American
- 23:36Speaker 2: support photo ID to vote. It's overwhelmingly popular. So the
- 23:40Speaker 2: Democrats all said they supported it, but they didn't like
- 23:42Speaker 2: the other elements of the Save Act. So one thing
- 23:45Speaker 2: we did this week is we said, okay, we'll call
- 23:46Speaker 2: your bluff and we put up just a very simple
- 23:50Speaker 2: bill that required photo ID to vote. It's what they
- 23:53Speaker 2: all said they supported. Now let me tell you. I
- 23:56Speaker 2: want to read you some quotes from Democrats. Chuck Schumer quote,
- 24:02Speaker 2: Democrats support voter ID. Here's Chuck Schumer again. Our objection
- 24:08Speaker 2: as Democrats is not to photo ID. Here's Dick Durbin quote.
- 24:14Speaker 2: They say it's show of voter ID. I'm not opposed
- 24:17Speaker 2: to that. They ask you for an ID at the airport,
- 24:19Speaker 2: don't they? That's reasonable?
- 24:22Speaker 1: All right?
- 24:22Speaker 2: Here's Caitlin Collins at CNN asking Cory Booker quote, if
- 24:27Speaker 2: it was just a clean vote on voter ID specifically,
- 24:30Speaker 2: is that something you would support? Corey Booker? Yes. And
- 24:34Speaker 2: New Jersey has voter ID laws. I've got to show
- 24:36Speaker 2: my driver's license. Chris Coons, Democrat from Delaware quote who
- 24:42Speaker 2: could be against requiring ID to vote? Raphael Warnock, Democrat
- 24:46Speaker 2: from Georgia quote, I think you should have to prove
- 24:50Speaker 2: that you are who you say you are before you vote.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I support voter ID. Alyssa Slotkin from Michigan quote, voter ID,
- 24:58Speaker 2: which hopefully all America are an agreement about Kirsten Gillibrand
- 25:03Speaker 2: from New York quote. The ideas that we all have
- 25:06Speaker 2: in our wallets should be good enough to vote. They
- 25:08Speaker 2: always have been. Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat from Rhode Island quote, well,
- 25:13Speaker 2: the voter ID part is probably fine. We have voter
- 25:16Speaker 2: ID here in Rhode Island. Reuben Gayego, Democrat from Arizona quote,
- 25:21Speaker 2: if people want to adopt the Arizona Way, which is
- 25:23Speaker 2: strict voter ID, I think that would be fine. Mark
- 25:27Speaker 2: Warner and Tim Kaine, both Democrats from Virginia. Quote, we
- 25:31Speaker 2: support reasonable steps that help maintain trusts in our elections,
- 25:35Speaker 2: including the voter identification requirements we already have in Virginia.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Jack Read, Democrat from Rhode Island quote. If the polls
- 25:44Speaker 2: simply required every American to show an IDA at the polls,
- 25:49Speaker 2: then I would not be ringing such a loud alarm.
- 25:52Speaker 2: So that's what they all said. So Republicans said, a right,
- 25:55Speaker 2: we'll call your bluff. And when we put a vote
- 25:56Speaker 2: on just photo ID to vote, you know what have to.
- 26:01Speaker 1: What happened? I know the answer, but it makes me laugh.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Every single Democrat voted no, all of them every one
- 26:13Speaker 2: of them. Everyone that I just read those quotes from
- 26:16Speaker 2: all the ones that say, oh, I support voter ID,
- 26:18Speaker 2: they all voted no. I mean, it is a flat
- 26:21Speaker 2: up It's just a flat up lie. And part of
- 26:26Speaker 2: the reason, part of the reason that they do that
- 26:30Speaker 2: is because they know the media won't call them on it.
- 26:34Speaker 2: That they know that they can lie over and over
- 26:39Speaker 2: and over again and there will be no consequences. Now,
- 26:41Speaker 2: I will say an exception to that. So CBS News,
- 26:45Speaker 2: David Ellison bought CBS News and so now suddenly CBS
- 26:49Speaker 2: News is owned by someone who says he has a
- 26:52Speaker 2: commitment to making it balanced and not having it be
- 26:54Speaker 2: a partisan left wing network. I'll tell you what. CBS
- 26:58Speaker 2: News tweeted out today quote. An amendment that would require
- 27:04Speaker 2: voters to show photo identification to cast a ballot failed
- 27:07Speaker 2: to advance in the Senate on Thursday, despite Senate Minority
- 27:11Speaker 2: Leader Chuck Schumer saying last week that Democrats were not
- 27:14Speaker 2: opposed to such an requirement. So CBS actually reported straight out.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I actually had some fun with that and tweeted and said,
- 27:24Speaker 2: you mean, Schumer lied, and there's a reason you'll have
- 27:28Speaker 2: the right. There's a reason you have a Pinocchio emoji
- 27:31Speaker 2: and I used it. But part of the reason they're
- 27:36Speaker 2: willing to lie so brazenly is what CBS did. There
- 27:40Speaker 2: is the exception CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, they don't call
- 27:47Speaker 2: him to account, The Washington Post, the New York Times,
- 27:49Speaker 2: they don't call him to account. And so the Democrats
- 27:52Speaker 2: all lie. And then when you say, oh, you support that,
- 27:55Speaker 2: do you all right, well, do you want to vote
- 27:56Speaker 2: for it? They all say no. They get almost no
- 28:00Speaker 2: accountability for doing so.
- 28:03Speaker 1: It really is incredible. And look, I do think this
- 28:08Speaker 1: is going to be very interesting going into the midterms,
- 28:11Speaker 1: and I want to get your reaction to this because
- 28:14Speaker 1: I actually think the American people are paying attention. They
- 28:17Speaker 1: were very frustrated by the Democrats constantly taking their life
- 28:21Speaker 1: harder on these basic type issues, just like the airport.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I think those are things when you combine these issues together,
- 28:29Speaker 1: the Save Act, which is overwhelming American support, like it's
- 28:33Speaker 1: probably one of the most bipartisan things you're polling right
- 28:36Speaker 1: now in this country, if not the very top one,
- 28:40Speaker 1: and yet you have this type of divide. I actually
- 28:43Speaker 1: think this plays in the hands of Republicans if we
- 28:45Speaker 1: do it. The right way your thoughts.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I think that's right, and I think calling
- 28:49Speaker 2: out Democrats for hypocrisy and lying and for just really
- 28:54Speaker 2: aggressive pardon partisanship.
- 28:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I will say there are people who say both sides
- 29:01Speaker 2: are too extreme, and I got to say that that
- 29:03Speaker 2: feels very reasonable and even handed. Gosh, one side's too extreme,
- 29:09Speaker 2: so is the other. I just don't think it's accurate.
- 29:12Speaker 2: If you look at where we are now, the policy
- 29:16Speaker 2: positions of the Democratic Party objectively are extreme. On immigration,
- 29:22Speaker 2: they're an open border party. They just refuse to fund
- 29:25Speaker 2: even a penny for immigration enforcement, and they slashed funding
- 29:31Speaker 2: for customs and border patrol. They are an open border
- 29:34Speaker 2: party that opposes arresting murderers and gang bangers and child rapists.
- 29:42Speaker 2: On issues of sexuality, every Democrat, all of them, support
- 29:47Speaker 2: boys and girls sports men and women's sports. They support
- 29:51Speaker 2: sterilization and surgical mutilation of kids. Those are extreme positions.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Those are on the ten side of ninety ten issues.
- 30:03Speaker 2: They support abolishing the police. They all just voted to
- 30:05Speaker 2: effectively abolish the police. And the immigration context, what are
- 30:09Speaker 2: the Democrats? What are the Republicans supporting? Policy wise? The
- 30:13Speaker 2: Republicans are supporting common sense principles, low taxes, low regulations,
- 30:18Speaker 2: lots and lots of jobs, small businesses doing well, securing
- 30:22Speaker 2: the border, supporting law enforcement, protecting our families. Those are
- 30:26Speaker 2: common sense position. Look, the Democrats on foreign policy are
- 30:31Speaker 2: embrace Hamas. There is a real pro Hamas contingent in
- 30:34Speaker 2: the Democrat Party that is objectively extreme, and so I
- 30:38Speaker 2: think saying the two sides are kind of both too extreme,
- 30:42Speaker 2: I don't think that describes where the policy debate is now.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I will concede this. On the rhetoric, there is a
- 30:49Speaker 2: fair point to be made that both sides can use
- 30:52Speaker 2: overheated rhetoric. I think the Democrats do so routinely when
- 30:56Speaker 2: they call Ice, for example, Nazis, and and they call
- 31:01Speaker 2: for dosing and going after the families of law enforcement officers.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's grotesque. But there are Republicans
- 31:09Speaker 2: who use overheated rhetoric as well, and I wish they
- 31:12Speaker 2: did not. You know, I get that question a lot
- 31:14Speaker 2: as I travel around Texas and around the country, and
- 31:16Speaker 2: I say, listen, I don't have the ability to change
- 31:20Speaker 2: the language other people use. I can control what I say.
- 31:24Speaker 2: You know, Ben, you and me, and verdict, I try
- 31:26Speaker 2: not to demonize people personally, but I do try to
- 31:30Speaker 2: talk about policies and say it is an objectively unreasonable
- 31:34Speaker 2: policy to support open borders and to just take away
- 31:37Speaker 2: the paychecks of law enforcement officers forever, and that is
- 31:41Speaker 2: the position of the Democrat Party. I think that's the
- 31:44Speaker 2: way we ought to have political discussions on substance and merits,
- 31:47Speaker 2: rather than making it personal.
- 31:49Speaker 1: As always, thank you for listening to Verdict with Center,
- 31:52Speaker 1: Ted Cruz Ben Ferguson with you don't forget to dealt
