Latest / Neighbourly: Real Stories of Care and Community / Leading Differently Together | "Prophets" With Cath Livesey
Transcript
- 0:02As prophets, we we maintain that soft
- 0:05heart at the center of church, really grounded in community rather than
- 0:09being that critical voice on the edge of church. We wanna be fully grounded
- 0:13in community, then we have so much to offer the church.
- 0:18What does loving your neighbor actually look like?
- 0:23This is Journey with Cath, where curious Canadians get inspired
- 0:27to love others well through real life stories and honest
- 0:30conversations.
- 0:36Hey, Curious Sojourner. We're continuing in our series, Leading
- 0:39Differently Together. I'm so glad you're on this journey with me as we
- 0:43meet up with some fascinating people who are living in their sweet spots.
- 0:47In Ephesians 41112, it says, God gives some to
- 0:51be apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers
- 0:54to equip the saints for the work of the ministry for building up the
- 0:58body of Christ. And today, we're gonna get curious about the
- 1:02prophetic. What do you think of when you hear that word? Across
- 1:05denominations and diverse experiences, prophecy can take a
- 1:09lot of heat and a lot of fanfare. But what makes
- 1:13something actually prophetic and what may seem
- 1:17something, well, pathetic? Stick around. I think you're gonna love
- 1:20today's episode as we explore what the Bible has to say about it
- 1:24and what it means for us here in Canada. I'm your host, Wendy
- 1:28Park, joined by producer Johan Hinrichs. And in studio today, we have
- 1:31a special guest all the way from the UK, Cath Livesey,
- 1:35founder of Accessible Prophecy and author of Holy
- 1:39Disruption, My Sheep Have Ears, and the prophecy course.
- 1:43Cath, welcome to the podcast. Thank you. It's great to be
- 1:46here. Cath, you work with churches around the world and
- 1:50including Canada and have a passion for nurturing a
- 1:54healthy prophetic culture. And I've actually sat in one of your workshops and
- 1:58was blown away by how down to Cath and truly accessible
- 2:01you made the topic of prophecy. Can you take me on a a
- 2:05brief tour of your personal story? How did you get
- 2:08to understanding prophecy and the prophetic in
- 2:12such a personal accessible way. Like, you can't make those things
- 2:16up. Sure. Well, I guess for me, it has been a
- 2:19long, slow journey. I became a Christian
- 2:23many, many years ago. And in those 1st years,
- 2:27it was all about the bible and, you know, I was discipled
- 2:30well. But it was only when I turned up at university and
- 2:34people started to talk about the holy spirit and the gifts of the
- 2:37spirit that I really learned anything
- 2:41about prophecy. And I guess since then, I was just
- 2:45intrigued. I was fascinated with this idea that, yeah,
- 2:48almighty god, creator of the heavens and Cath, might actually wanna
- 2:52talk to me, not just through the eternal words of the
- 2:56bible, but God might wanna talk to me in the here and
- 2:59now about what's going on for me here and now. And I think
- 3:03alongside that, I've always known, I've always had
- 3:07this deep, deep intuitive knowledge that God is so
- 3:10much better and so much closer than we can
- 3:14think or imagine. I've always been absolutely
- 3:18intrigued by God and just a passion to
- 3:21to get closer and closer and closer. So I think
- 3:25these sorts of things have been just key markers for
- 3:29me, things that have prompted me to dig deeper.
- 3:33In in my early days of exploring the prophetic, to be honest, there weren't
- 3:37that many helpful books out there. You had to
- 3:40search quite hard to find trustworthy guides.
- 3:44And I think that's why I've just got such a
- 3:48passion for helping every single Christian learn how
- 3:52to hear God's voice because way back when I was starting off,
- 3:55there weren't that many faithful guides around. Yeah. I
- 3:59was curious about that because when I was sitting in your course, and I've also
- 4:03read your book, the holy disruption, which is excellent, by the way, and we're
- 4:07gonna include that link in the show notes. I I think people here
- 4:10will definitely wanna read through that. But I
- 4:14was curious because when I was sitting there, it wasn't information that
- 4:18seemed apparently from a particular denomination. It
- 4:21felt like for the whole church. And and that got me
- 4:25curious about your upbringing and how you came to understand
- 4:29your own prophetic voice, and was that nurtured as a young
- 4:33child? But you said you you really had to seek
- 4:36answers for that truth? Yeah. I I guess
- 4:40I've got quite an ecumenical approach. I was brought
- 4:44up in the Anglican church in the the the Church of England.
- 4:48As a student, I I went to a Baptist church.
- 4:52Then when we got married, we spent a long time in what you could
- 4:56Cath, like, a free church or a house church. So Mhmm. I yeah. I
- 4:59have a real passion for the global body of Christ.
- 5:03And I think sometimes the prophetic has
- 5:07been seen to be something just for the charismatic.
- 5:10But I passionately believe that that this ministry,
- 5:14this authentic prophetic lifestyle, it's for every
- 5:17expression, every denomination, every stream. And, yeah,
- 5:21in in my experience here in Canada too, as I I have had
- 5:25some meaningful conversations with Catholic as well as
- 5:28charismatic and everything in between, conservative,
- 5:33there seems to be a resonance. If we understood
- 5:36what actually and we're gonna dive into what we're talking about by the
- 5:40biblical understanding of prophecy and the prophetic. I
- 5:44seem to hear those voices from within those denominations,
- 5:47god speaking and and listening to God's voice. And in
- 5:51your book, you also talk about the contemplative
- 5:55and also the charismatic, and both can be true. But
- 5:59sometimes we may pigeonhole it in 1 or the other, and we may misunderstand
- 6:03the full depth of how God really connects
- 6:07with with his church. Yeah. And I think one of the key things I
- 6:11wanted to do in the book was to take
- 6:14that 30,000 foot perspective on the prophetic
- 6:18and, you know, to help everybody regardless of their of their denominational
- 6:22background see the bigger picture. And, yeah,
- 6:26absolutely, there's riches and depths in the charismatic
- 6:30tradition, but there's also, you know, incredible wisdom
- 6:34in the contemplative tradition. And then you have what you could call
- 6:38more of a social justice expression of the prophetic,
- 6:42which is really important for for some churches.
- 6:46And what I want every church to do is to learn from all these
- 6:49different approaches and to get a holistic,
- 6:53big picture understanding of the prophetic and and what it means
- 6:57to faithfully follow the voice of God, both on
- 7:00a church wide perspective, but as individual Christians.
- 7:05So, you know, in terms of the fivefold,
- 7:08whether you're apostle, prophet, evangelist, shepherd, or teacher,
- 7:13we can all learn what you could call prophetic intelligence. You
- 7:16can we can all learn just as a normal everyday
- 7:20Christian how to listen for the voice of God,
- 7:24how to pay attention to God's voice, how to
- 7:27discern the particular ways that the Holy Spirit gets our
- 7:31attention and and talks to us. And this is for
- 7:35every single follower of Jesus. Are you describing
- 7:39the mission of accessible prophecy in what you just said there? Is
- 7:43that your goal and intent? Yeah. Definitely. We have a
- 7:47twofold vision. So first of all, it is to help every Christian
- 7:51learn how to hear God's voice, to live in the reality of John
- 7:54chapter 10 where Jesus says, 4 times, my sheep
- 7:58hear my voice, and we're the sheep, and and Jesus is speaking,
- 8:01Jesus is still speaking. So that's the first part of our vision. The second
- 8:05part of our vision is to help every single
- 8:09church develop a healthy prophetic culture.
- 8:12So, yeah, it's the individual, but it's also the church.
- 8:16And you do have a small presence here in Canada as well on the East
- 8:20Coast that are meeting. I think it's prophetic huddles. Is that what we call
- 8:24it? Yeah. Definitely. So we have a
- 8:27team, the Accessible Prophecy Canada team. They're
- 8:31currently based in Nova Scotia, but slowly
- 8:34growing, doing online,
- 8:38opportunities like webinars, doing some in person
- 8:42events. But the main offering are what we call these
- 8:45online coaching huddles, prophetic coaching huddles, which are
- 8:49small cohorts of 3 or 4 or 5 people with one of our
- 8:52trained coaches who go on this deep dive into,
- 8:57what it looks like to develop that authentic, mature, holistic,
- 9:01prophetic lifestyle. So do check out Accessible Prophecy
- 9:04Canada. Yeah. And we'll include the, link in
- 9:08the show notes, and I just love that there's a way for it to
- 9:12be nurtured because sometimes when we don't have that language within
- 9:16their church or maybe it's it's a foreign concept for us to find other
- 9:19people more mature in the faith, in those
- 9:23giftings to guide us along, I think, is is such a beautiful thing of the
- 9:27body of Christ. We're no longer bound by geography anymore,
- 9:30and, we can connect, the the body of Christ
- 9:34over online or and in person. I'd like to dive into
- 9:38what we're meaning by the word prophecy and the prophetic. Can
- 9:41you demystify that for me And and for our listeners, what do
- 9:45we mean by prophecy? Absolutely.
- 9:49And I think this demystification
- 9:58yeah, there's potentially a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings
- 10:02around the prophetic. Some people just wanna run away
- 10:06from it, have nothing to do with with this ministry. So
- 10:10I'm all for simple, straightforward definitions.
- 10:14So prophecy, very simply, is hearing God
- 10:18speaking and repeating what he says. And particularly
- 10:21when we look at the new testament, we see in
- 10:25Paul's writings this thing called the gift of prophecy.
- 10:29And what we notice is it's not, an exclusive
- 10:33gift just for the very anointed ones or for leaders.
- 10:37But, you know, Paul invites all of us to
- 10:41eagerly pursue spiritual gifts, especially
- 10:45prophecy. And he goes on to talk about how the gift of prophecy
- 10:49is for people's strengthening encouragement and comfort.
- 10:53So it sounds like a fantastic gift that each and
- 10:56every one of us wanna be pursuing. I I like to talk
- 11:00about how, you know, we all have a spiritual toolkit.
- 11:04And no matter what our main calling or gifting is, we all have this
- 11:07spiritual toolkit. And prophecy, the gift of prophecy, is a fantastic
- 11:11tool to have in your toolkit that you can pull out at any
- 11:14time to strengthen and encourage and comfort people.
- 11:18So so that's a simple definition of prophecy. When it then
- 11:22comes to the word prophet because, goodness me, that's a word that we
- 11:25need to demystify. And, of course, there's an
- 11:29old testament understanding of the word, but
- 11:33we also find prophets in the new testament.
- 11:37And Ephesians 411 tells us that Christ has given
- 11:40prophets to his church. So it's not just an old testament
- 11:44role. It's something for the new covenant church of God.
- 11:48And I really think we need to grasp a new testament
- 11:52perspective. Yeah. The old testament's helpful, but we can end up with some
- 11:55stereotypes. So let's fix our attention on a new
- 11:59testament perspective and let's fix our attention on how
- 12:03Jesus himself walked in that prophetic role because
- 12:07Jesus is our best role model. He's our ultimate prophet. The
- 12:10way I, again, simply define a prophet is
- 12:14it's somebody with a particular calling and
- 12:18wiring to stay attuned to
- 12:21God's hearts and to help keep the church
- 12:25aligned with God's purposes. And I would
- 12:28also say that prophets, they're wired for
- 12:32both worship and warfare. And what I mean by that
- 12:36is, first of all, you know, prophets have such a heart
- 12:40for worship that their passion is the heart of God. They want to help
- 12:44everybody draw closer to God. They wanna help
- 12:48curate and cultivate a worshipful culture
- 12:52in the church. And they're not looking for just status quo
- 12:55either. Right? Oh, no. Goodness. Like your book, like, they're disruptors
- 13:00in a holy sense, drawing us back to the father's heart Yeah.
- 13:04Which is which is beautiful. Absolutely. So there's
- 13:07that real call and drive for
- 13:11worship and alongside that, you know, challenging any idolatry.
- 13:15But then prophets are wired for warfare.
- 13:19And what I mean by that, yeah, part of it is spiritual warfare
- 13:22because prophets are very kind of spiritually sensitive.
- 13:26Prophets often are the first to take note of
- 13:30any any signs of spiritual unhealth in
- 13:34the body. You know, it's a question we're always asking as prophets, are we
- 13:37healthy or are we unhealthy? So there's Cath of like
- 13:41spiritual warfare, intercession side of things, but there's also the broader
- 13:44perspective of looking out on the world
- 13:48through God's eyes. And where
- 13:52does the church need to have that
- 13:55voice? You know, what strongholds need pulling down? What
- 13:59areas of injustice need challenging? That's a
- 14:03part of the prophet's perspective on warfare. So, yeah,
- 14:07worship and warfare. So they're kind of like a
- 14:10chiropractor would bring into alignment the skeleton of the body when there's some
- 14:14there's a dissonance or a wheel alignment. You're gonna go off to the side of
- 14:17the road if you keep going like this, and they they keep tuning us back
- 14:21into alignment. And, they're keenly aware of
- 14:25those things that are brought to our attention. Absolutely.
- 14:29Absolutely. How is a prophetic voice
- 14:33edifying? And when we look at, Ephesians 41112,
- 14:37it's for building up, for edification of the body. In
- 14:40what ways are you seeing churches embrace not just
- 14:44solely the prophetic now we're gonna just focus on prophecy. We're we're looking at the
- 14:485 fold. How have you seen the prophetic
- 14:51really edify and build up a body of Christ that maybe with other
- 14:55giftings that are sitting around that table or sitting in in a
- 14:58congregation, how are you seeing it at its best in its health
- 15:02edifying the body of Christ? Yeah. I I think the 5
- 15:06fold perspective, the APES perspective is absolutely key. We never want the
- 15:18And we're gonna get the healthiest church when all 5
- 15:21are working really, really well together. And as I work with
- 15:25churches around the world, I am very much helping
- 15:29them cultivate that servant hearted attitude when it comes to
- 15:33the prophetic. So it's not about me and my gifts.
- 15:37It's, well, how do we channel these
- 15:41particular gifts to help build up everybody? There's a
- 15:44brilliant verse in Acts where Luke
- 15:48describes 2 prophets in the early church, Judas and Silas,
- 15:52and it's just a little sentence. And and Luke says that
- 15:55Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to
- 15:59encourage and strengthen the believers. And that's
- 16:02a little perspective on the the
- 16:06great strength and health that prophets were bringing to the
- 16:10early church. And I think when we help prophets
- 16:14get this broader perspective on who they're called to be,
- 16:18on what they bring to the church. So, yeah, part of it is about bringing
- 16:21the word of God, but it's about equipping
- 16:25everybody in the church to hear God. You know, I would say, in in some
- 16:28ways, that's the number one role of the prophet, to help every single
- 16:32person learn how to hear God's voice in the same way that the role of
- 16:36an evangelist, yes, is to go out and win win souls for Jesus, but
- 16:40it's the role of the evangelist in the church is to help us all
- 16:43learn how to be bold in sharing our faith. So, yeah,
- 16:47equipping the body, listening on behalf of the
- 16:51body, being prepared to challenge the status quo.
- 16:55And when it's done in a humble, gentle,
- 16:59accountable way, you know, we we need to ensure that there's there's good
- 17:02accountability, there's good channels of communication,
- 17:06that as prophets, we we maintain that
- 17:09soft heart at the center of church, really grounded in community
- 17:13rather than being that critical voice on the edge of church, we wanna be fully
- 17:17grounded in community, then we have so much
- 17:20to to offer the church. And I guess in in health, at
- 17:24in maturation of the prophetic gifting, one
- 17:28would need to develop that
- 17:32love for the church and to say things in love, to direct
- 17:35people in love, even in in some some of the
- 17:38harsher things that would bring alignment, that would be
- 17:42disruptive in the sense of, like, calling people back into worship,
- 17:46calling people back into even social gaps in
- 17:50the community. They see things. They hear things. They have ear to the ground, not
- 17:53only to God, but I also see it active in ear to
- 17:57the community. And what are we hearing within the community? Where is
- 18:01God wanting the church to be in alignment with God? I'm just
- 18:04wondering, how do you see that play out in the
- 18:14to full maturation? I guess we're always maturing, but what is that
- 18:18like to to see that mature? Yeah. I
- 18:21mean, just a few things I'd wanna share there.
- 18:25So I always encourage profits I'm working with to
- 18:28work really hard on their communication skills. And what I'll often say
- 18:32is you can have the most remarkable, you
- 18:36know, mind blowing vision or word from the Lord. But if you
- 18:39can't communicate it in a way that people will listen,
- 18:43pretty much wasted. So for some
- 18:46prophets, it's about learning succinct, effective
- 18:50communication. And again, you know, keeping their hearts
- 18:54soft, learning how to speak with gentleness,
- 18:58learning how to speak really, really effectively. So, you know, the whole communication
- 19:02piece can be actually the the one thing that
- 19:06truly, truly makes the difference. I'll often
- 19:10say to prophets, ask God who your apostle
- 19:13is in this season. And I've been so
- 19:17blessed over the years as I have, you know, developed my own
- 19:21prophetic ministry that God's always provided me with an apostle.
- 19:25You know, the the prophetic and the apostolic, they really need
- 19:28each other. They really, really need each other. And as prophets,
- 19:32we have so much to learn from the apostolic because what
- 19:42and turning it into something real and lived and
- 19:46applicable. So learning the way of the
- 19:50apostle, learning really good application
- 19:54from the apostle can do so much to mature,
- 19:58prophetic ministry. But that's true of the whole fivefold. So, you know,
- 20:01as prophets, we need to be learning from the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers as
- 20:05well. Yeah. I think that is really valuable to to put into
- 20:09perspective. And I I think some of the pushback that
- 20:13I've observed within church's
- 20:16experience of the prophetic, some of the pushback might be
- 20:21this wariness towards what could be considered false
- 20:24prophecy or these whimsical ideas that are
- 20:28maybe even a way of manipulation and sometimes has been a way
- 20:32of manipulation of how God told me to say this to the church and
- 20:36thus saith the lord. And we will see extremes in any of this
- 20:39fight. We have to have discernment. Correct? But how do we
- 20:43discern what is of God and what is not? When
- 20:47somebody comes, regardless may may not even know their
- 20:50maturity in the Lord, but how do we discern the
- 20:54prophetic voice? Yeah. Absolutely. I and I think
- 20:57that the gift of discernment is an absolutely
- 21:01vital gift for the church, particularly in the days that we're all
- 21:05living through. So I encourage people
- 21:08that I'm mentoring and discipling to be asking God for the
- 21:12gift of discernment every day. That's something I try and do. The
- 21:16bible is very clear. The new testaments are very clear when it comes to
- 21:19prophecy that all prophecy needs to be weighed and
- 21:23tested and discerned. And the new testament says that repeatedly.
- 21:28So how do we discern? And I think first of
- 21:31all, we we discern from the character and nature
- 21:35of God. We, of course, discern from the
- 21:39bible. Something that I'll often say to people is listen for the
- 21:42voice that is kind. Listen for the voice that is kind, that is
- 21:46full of life and light and that reflects Jesus?
- 21:50And does this sound like Jesus? There are a lot
- 21:54of voices out there. And today, you know,
- 21:57through YouTube and and and every other platform,
- 22:02there are a 1,000 and one prophetic voices we could listen
- 22:06to. But which one reflects the voice of Jesus? Which one
- 22:09sounds like Jesus? And I think the more we are
- 22:13walking with God, the more we are circling ourselves in the
- 22:16bible, in the written word, the easier it is to
- 22:20discern. Yeah. The more we're we're walking with the Holy Spirit and asking for the
- 22:24Holy Spirit's help and discernment, the easier it becomes.
- 22:28I think there's good practice when it comes to the
- 22:32prophetic. And if, you know, a stranger just
- 22:36rocks up with this completely out of nowhere prophetic
- 22:40word, then there are gonna be a lot of hoops
- 22:44that, you know, that word is gonna have to jump through before we would say
- 22:47this is the voice of God. You know, we we have to
- 22:51equip everybody in our churches to weigh and test really, really
- 22:55well. Just because you hear some prophet
- 22:58on YouTube say this or that or the other does not mean
- 23:03that you are hearing a true revelation, a true word of
- 23:06prophecy that's come that has come from God's heart. There are questions we can ask
- 23:10in terms of, well, who's this person accountable to? Is this
- 23:14person part of a a a 5 fold
- 23:18team? You know, there are lots of questions that we can ask as we look
- 23:22for good practice, good wise practice in
- 23:25the prophetic. And I think that's a beautiful example of why we wanna weigh
- 23:29in to the 5 fold because there might be a pastoral gift, a teaching gift
- 23:30that would discern and bring scripture to the pastoral gift, a teaching gift that would
- 23:34discern and bring scripture to light or bring a
- 23:38nurture awareness to their congregation if it is kind, if it
- 23:41is edifying, it is it is true of god. I think in
- 23:45my understanding and growth in the prophetic,
- 23:49I also have to realize I cannot always
- 23:52hear to the minutest detail what god is exactly saying.
- 23:56He's not downloading a recipe. Sometimes he does. He's not
- 24:00giving me a formula of exactly what to do, but we need the apostolic
- 24:04to to go out and try anyway, to to venture out and
- 24:08to to have a a different sense
- 24:11of how to move forward with that word. I'm curious,
- 24:15though, as we've developed Care Impact and
- 24:18been formed by not only what God has spoken to us
- 24:22in dreams and vision and and what we're hearing from the church and the
- 24:26needs that need to fill in the gap, which is a very prophetic
- 24:29role to see between social services and the church, and
- 24:33how do we bring the church into the community as Jesus has
- 24:37called us to be good neighbors. And our whole motto is making
- 24:41helping strangers become good neighbors. One of the things that
- 24:45I've been hearing that has shaped some of what I've understood, even
- 24:48Jesus in scripture, is listening to those
- 24:52that I don't always listen to right in the community they've actually
- 24:56been a prophetic voice in my life as I've welcomed. Do you
- 25:00know that the verse where it says to welcome, be hospitable to
- 25:03strangers for sometimes unknowingly you are
- 25:07hosting angels. Also, the word is messengers. And
- 25:11maybe not angels with the the fluttery wings and halo sense, but
- 25:15bringing in strangers, they've actually had words for me
- 25:19and helped me understand scripture and brought me into alignment.
- 25:23Is that a thing? Because I I feel like sometimes we can keep
- 25:26the prophetic right in the walls of the institution of the
- 25:30church and have this Kumbaya mountaintop experience,
- 25:34but I feel often in our work that there's a dissonance
- 25:37with what people are saying, what God is saying through people and and through
- 25:41circumstances and calling the church to be relevant. Can you
- 25:45speak to any of that? Does it even make sense? Sure.
- 25:49I think that as each of us
- 25:52pursues a tuned in lifestyle,
- 25:56a day by day walk with Jesus, where we
- 26:00are creating enough pause to pay attention to
- 26:04God throughout the day, recognizing that, you know, we'll
- 26:07hear God in different ways. But we are slowing down. We're
- 26:11paying attention. We are seeking to look
- 26:15at the world around us, to look at the community, the neighborhood around us through
- 26:19the eyes of Jesus. We are whenever we leave the church
- 26:22building, whenever we leave our front door, we are going out with the
- 26:26Holy Spirit to keep in step with the spirit, then God can speak in
- 26:30all sorts of ways, very much through
- 26:34unexpected channels. I guess he did it through donkeys. Right?
- 26:38Absolutely. Absolutely. And again, I think this is a mistake that
- 26:41we've made. We've put a straight jacket on the prophetic.
- 26:45We've thought, well, it's gonna look like this. But, actually, you know,
- 26:49we can't put God in a box. We cannot constrain the Holy Spirit.
- 26:54And that's part of the this beautiful journey we all go
- 26:57on as we really pay attention to the different ways
- 27:01that God talks to us. You know, for some people, God is
- 27:05very much talking through through nature. For some of us,
- 27:09it'll be just the voices we hear out and about in in our
- 27:12community, but let's pay attention. Let's walk slowly
- 27:16enough so that we can discern what god is
- 27:19saying through some surprising avenues.
- 27:23Cath, I'd love to read just an excerpt from your book.
- 27:27Hopefully, people can can get it on Amazon or wherever they buy their
- 27:30books to read it for themselves, but you you wrap up
- 27:34the prophetic in a really beautiful way on page
- 27:38Wendi. The church of Jesus Christ needs to reclaim
- 27:42its prophetic identity and rediscover its prophetic voice, a
- 27:45voice that speaks hope to the hopeless, that calls for transformation
- 27:49across spheres of human experience and that is more than
- 27:53capable of standing up to tyranny and oppression. A
- 27:56voice that originates in the heart of our utterly free, powerful,
- 28:00and compassionate God. The father who chooses to reach
- 28:04out to humanity crafted in his image and make himself
- 28:07known. A voice that is carried on by the winds of the
- 28:11spirit to every corner of the globe, ready to be perceived
- 28:15by all who take time to listen. This earth shattering
- 28:19paradigm shifting yet tender voice cannot be appropriated
- 28:23for human agendas or ideologies. The prophets
- 28:27of old were overwhelmed by it as they allowed the
- 28:30word of Yahweh to be wholly incarnated in their lives.
- 28:35Prophets today can learn to thrive in the profound depths of this
- 28:38voice as they teach the church to discern and carry it.
- 28:42The voice to be rediscovered is the voice of love.
- 28:46The prophetic is the love language of God of relationship
- 28:50and revelation. I think that's just profound. It it sort of
- 28:54sums up some of what we've been talking about, but there is so much
- 28:58more to dive into. Cath, as we conclude
- 29:01this conversation, are there any practical next steps that you
- 29:05might be able to offer me and and my listeners here
- 29:09in Canada to to grow in the prophetic?
- 29:13Sure. Well, a really, really simple
- 29:17next step that any of us can do is
- 29:21perhaps to commit, say, over the next 4 or 5
- 29:24days, just to find 5 minutes
- 29:28in your day. That's all you need to find, 4 or 5 minutes.
- 29:32And go somewhere or find somewhere
- 29:37where you're not gonna get distracted, so turn off your phone,
- 29:40maybe go for a walk, and just
- 29:44practice being still in God's
- 29:47presence. And for some of us, you know, our minds are going at a 100
- 29:50miles an hour. It it's it's really challenging to do that.
- 29:54But just practice being still in God's presence.
- 29:58And then maybe choose one of your favorite
- 30:02bible verses and just meditate on it
- 30:06and say to God, father, what do you wanna say to me today
- 30:10through this verse? And just give yourself a few minutes
- 30:14just to do the pause, to do the stillness, to do the
- 30:18meditation, and welcome whatever revelation God might wanna
- 30:21bring. Maybe God will remind you of another bible verse. Maybe a
- 30:25little simple picture will pop into your head. Maybe you'll
- 30:29discern some words from the father. But it's
- 30:33just creating that moment of pause in your busy day
- 30:36to step back, enjoy God's presence, and be
- 30:40open to however he might want to talk to you. And that's something that we
- 30:44can all do. Well, that's something I'm gonna try to do this
- 30:47next week. And on that note, I wanna encourage people, if
- 30:51you're wanting help to pray along with these things and and be
- 30:55challenged, join our journey with prayer. We we
- 30:58offer that every Monday. It's a reflective, contemplative
- 31:02prayer that we put out there from from the Friday's episode.
- 31:06We have that every Monday if you would like to to journey in
- 31:09prayer with us to follow along on Wendi. But thank you, Cath, for
- 31:13taking time for this beautiful conversation, this needed
