- 0:00Luke chapter 18. Now he was telling them a
- 0:03parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not
- 0:06to lose heart, saying In a certain city there was a judge
- 0:09who did not fear God and did not respect man.
- 0:12There was a widow in that city and she kept coming to him
- 0:15saying, Give me legal protection from my opponent.
- 0:18For a while he was unwilling, but afterward he said to
- 0:21himself, Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet
- 0:25because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection.
- 0:28Otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.
- 0:31And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge said.
- 0:35Now will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cried
- 0:38to him day and night? And will he delay long over
- 0:41them? I tell you that He will bring
- 0:43about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man
- 0:46comes, will he find faith on the earth?
- 0:49And he also told this parable to some people who trusted them in
- 0:52themselves, that they were righteous and viewed others with
- 0:55contempt. Two men went up into the temple
- 0:58to pray. 1A Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
- 1:01The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself.
- 1:04God, I thank you that I am not like other people, swindlers,
- 1:08unjust adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
- 1:12I fast twice a week. I pay tithes of all that I get.
- 1:16But the tax collector standing some distance away was even
- 1:19unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven.
- 1:21But he was beating his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me,
- 1:25the Sinner. I tell you, this man went to his
- 1:28house justified rather than the other.
- 1:30For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who
- 1:33humbles himself will be exalted. And they were bringing even
- 1:36their babies to him, so that he would touch them.
- 1:38But when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.
- 1:42But Jesus called for them, saying, Permit the children to
- 1:44come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God
- 1:47belongs to such as these. Truly, I say to you, whoever
- 1:51does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter
- 1:54it at all. A ruler questioned him, saying,
- 1:58Good teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
- 2:01And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good?
- 2:04No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments.
- 2:08Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not
- 2:11bear false witness, honor your father and mother.
- 2:15And he said, all these things I have kept from my youth.
- 2:18When Jesus heard this, he said to him, One thing you still
- 2:21lack, sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor,
- 2:25and you shall have treasure in heaven, and come follow me.
- 2:28But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for
- 2:31he was extremely rich. And Jesus looked at him and
- 2:33said, how hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the
- 2:36Kingdom of God. For it is easier for a camel to
- 2:39go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the
- 2:42Kingdom of God. They who heard it said, then who
- 2:45can be saved? But he said, The things that are
- 2:48impossible with people are possible with God.
- 2:51Peter said, Behold, we have left our own homes and followed you.
- 2:55And he said to them, truly I say to you, there is no one who has
- 2:58left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the
- 3:01sake of the Kingdom of God, who will not receive many times as
- 3:04much at this time and in the age to come eternal life.
- 3:08Then he took the 12 aside and said to them, Behold, we are
- 3:11going up to Jerusalem, and all things which are written through
- 3:14the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished, For he
- 3:17will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and
- 3:20mistreated and spit upon. And after they have scourged
- 3:23him, they will kill him, and the third day he will rise again.
- 3:27But the disciples understood none of these things, and the
- 3:29meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did
- 3:32not comprehend the things that were said.
- 3:35As Jesus was approaching Jericho, a blind man was sitting
- 3:37by the road begging. Now hearing a crowd going by, he
- 3:40began to inquire what this was. They told him that Jesus of
- 3:44Nazareth was passing by, and he called out, saying, Jesus, Son
- 3:47of David, have mercy on me. Those who led the way were
- 3:50sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the
- 3:53more. Son of David, have mercy on me.
- 3:56And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to him.
- 3:59When he came near, he questioned him, What do you want me to do
- 4:02for you? And he said, Lord, I want to
- 4:04regain my sight. And Jesus said to him, Receive
- 4:07your sight. Your faith has made you well.
- 4:10Immediately he regained his sight and began following him,
- 4:13glorifying God. And when all the people saw it,
- 4:16they gave praise to God.
