- 2:14Speaker 1: Peaky Colt. She's the founder and CEO CEO of Slutty Vegan.
- 2:19Speaker 1: She's opening the conversation on vegan food options for people
- 2:21Speaker 1: who have never considered them in communities that have such
- 2:24Speaker 1: high numbers and hypertension, cholesterol, obesity, and a host of
- 2:28Speaker 1: other food arable food born elements and slutty vegan. They
- 2:31Speaker 1: have combined su birb taste with plant based ingredients so
- 2:34Speaker 1: you can remain vegan and get a little naughty. Please
- 2:37Speaker 1: work with the money making conversations. My friend, Pinky Colt,
- 2:45Speaker 1: how you doing it? Big? A think doing very well?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Because you know that's when people see you. What's that,
- 2:51Speaker 1: big guy? You believe how many intros I get? But
- 2:58Speaker 1: you know what, as long as they call it my name,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm doing something. You know. But you know when you're
- 3:02Speaker 1: just people say that, big guy. Can you get me
- 3:07Speaker 1: into the front of the line. This lasts longer. Can
- 3:09Speaker 1: you move me up front? Can you move me up front?
- 3:11Speaker 1: Come on? I need it all the time. Well, you
- 3:15Speaker 1: know I've known about you. I've lived in Atlanti since
- 3:18Speaker 1: two thousand seven. Uh, and I eat all types of food.
- 3:22Speaker 1: So for as a person who always look at talent
- 3:25Speaker 1: and always looking at trying to reach out to people
- 3:27Speaker 1: who are doing something unique in the community when it
- 3:30Speaker 1: comes to food, what allowed you to separate yourself when
- 3:34Speaker 1: with with other restaurants. I'm not just talking about vegan restaurants,
- 3:37Speaker 1: just just other brands. You know, you're such a competitive market,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know, Atlanta has such a strong restaurant market. One
- 3:44Speaker 1: has allowed you to separate. That's my first question I
- 3:46Speaker 1: want to ask you about Vegan. Well, the first thing
- 3:51Speaker 1: is timing, right. I think often times, um we really
- 3:55Speaker 1: don't understand how important timing of a thing is. Right. So,
- 4:01Speaker 1: if you know anything about Uber and Lyft, there were
- 4:03Speaker 1: other companies that started, they did the same exact thing
- 4:07Speaker 1: at the same exact time, UM as Uber and left,
- 4:11Speaker 1: but those businesses didn't work. But the timing of Uber
- 4:15Speaker 1: and Lyft was so on point that it gave them
- 4:19Speaker 1: the opportunity to really survive in the market that really
- 4:22Speaker 1: didn't even exist at that time. So I say, all
- 4:24Speaker 1: had to say that the time ning for sluddy Vegan
- 4:27Speaker 1: couldn't be better, right. I started my company during an
- 4:31Speaker 1: arrow and one people started to walk into a new
- 4:33Speaker 1: level of consciousness to be at least even interested and
- 4:37Speaker 1: wanting to eat better. That's number one. Right. Secondly, they said, okay,
- 4:42Speaker 1: all right, so vegan is not a same thing, but
- 4:45Speaker 1: like we're open to try it because it really doesn't
- 4:48Speaker 1: exist on the main stream, but it's here. But like,
- 4:51Speaker 1: nobody has ever made it cool. So what I did
- 4:53Speaker 1: was I made it cool. But I didn't just focus
- 4:56Speaker 1: on the food element. I focused on the experience. So Rashan,
- 4:59Speaker 1: you said, um, when when you ask the question, you
- 5:02Speaker 1: said the marketing, right, So we put so much emphasis
- 5:05Speaker 1: in the marketing, um, from the timing that we got
- 5:08Speaker 1: to do this thing that it allowed us to be
- 5:11Speaker 1: one of the businesses that everybody knows and love. So yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 1: to the to the naked eye, and they just seem
- 5:17Speaker 1: like a restaurant, but it's bigger than the restaurant, right,
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's bigger than burgers and fries. We're making people excited
- 5:23Speaker 1: about a lifestyle. And I don't know that a lot
- 5:26Speaker 1: of businesses do that, but I feel like that's the
- 5:29Speaker 1: formula to our success. Is that just like Pepsi and
- 5:31Speaker 1: Coca Cola, right, like, they're selling a lifestyle experience and
- 5:35Speaker 1: then you come get the product based on the experience.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And we've been able to do that, and that's such
- 5:40Speaker 1: such apart from a lot of the other businesses and
- 5:43Speaker 1: began businesses that you see. But we upsay that whole
- 5:46Speaker 1: marketing and that experience to get people excited about the brand. Uh.
- 5:50Speaker 1: You know, let's let's get to the heart of you
- 5:52Speaker 1: are a star. Okay, I've worked around stars. You know that.
- 5:56Speaker 1: You see my bio. I know when I say you star,
- 5:59Speaker 1: so you can give me all that little nice marketing.
- 6:01Speaker 1: You know. Steve Harvey, he's sold ticket because he was
- 6:04Speaker 1: Steve Harvey. Okay, Yeah, he worked hard, he marketed, he
- 6:07Speaker 1: worked on his jokes, but he separated himself because he
- 6:11Speaker 1: believes in himself. Plus he had a unique ability to
- 6:14Speaker 1: communicate and unique ability. Same thing with stephen A. Smith.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Same thing Timmis anything with it, Jamie Foxx, same thing
- 6:22Speaker 1: with Monique, all these people I work with, Gabrielle Union
- 6:25Speaker 1: and Nick Cannon, and you fall in that class of
- 6:28Speaker 1: people who clearly can be talented at someplace else, but
- 6:33Speaker 1: have chose to be talented in the food industry and
- 6:35Speaker 1: the food service industry. Why did you choose discourse? Because,
- 6:40Speaker 1: like I wanted to say that, because sometimes when I
- 6:42Speaker 1: get people on the show, especially uniquely talented people like
- 6:45Speaker 1: on this show, you tend to want to give me
- 6:47Speaker 1: a glive, a global perspective on your success. Okay, everybody,
- 6:53Speaker 1: Vegan just didn't start last week. You know that. Okay,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, come on, it's interesting because like I can
- 7:02Speaker 1: only be real and raw, right, Vegan wrong, just vegan wrong,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I can only I can only be vegan raw. But
- 7:10Speaker 1: you also said it to listen, people love me. Yes,
- 7:16Speaker 1: because people love me, They're going to buy into the
- 7:19Speaker 1: experience because they're the person that curates that experience. But
- 7:23Speaker 1: it all speaks in the same breath. Right, They're gonna
- 7:27Speaker 1: fall in love with the marketing and want to be
- 7:30Speaker 1: a part of the experience. But they also know who
- 7:32Speaker 1: created that experience. And I loved you before I do
- 7:36Speaker 1: what you did. Oh, I appreciate that, I'm saying, Okay,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I understand that. Okay, you know people know, people know brands.
- 7:44Speaker 1: You know, if people know about Chick fil A and
- 7:46Speaker 1: they've never eaten a chicken sandwich from Chick fil A,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and so so the same thing. So your marketing has
- 7:52Speaker 1: made you a mainstay in conversation. In other words, you
- 7:55Speaker 1: could say that you are are the voice of you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm just telling you know a lot of people can
- 8:01Speaker 1: listen to the show. Go why he's saying that. But
- 8:03Speaker 1: you all become a brand, A vegan brand, a voice,
- 8:06Speaker 1: and so when you speak, there's so much credibility tied
- 8:09Speaker 1: to it because the success is tied to it. You know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: social media numbers are tied to it. You know your
- 8:15Speaker 1: community uplift is tied to it. So you will beyond
- 8:19Speaker 1: just the restaurant and people lining up. People see a
- 8:22Speaker 1: soul of spirit and you understand how to connect to two.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And so that's why I say is that, yeah, we
- 8:28Speaker 1: can talk about the marketing, but let's get to the
- 8:29Speaker 1: core of why this is successful. It's you one you
- 8:33Speaker 1: willing to put in. I always tell people there are
- 8:35Speaker 1: twenty four hours in a day. Learn to use every
- 8:38Speaker 1: hour of that. You do that you get at at
- 8:40Speaker 1: the same time. All the time you do that, you
- 8:43Speaker 1: commit the uplifting people, not only yourself but also the
- 8:47Speaker 1: community because you figured, hey, your God has blessed you
- 8:50Speaker 1: is even a bigger blessing if you share those opportunities.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You do that, and then you know, if you're trying me,
- 8:58Speaker 1: if you're tying me talking about how good, now this
- 9:01Speaker 1: is good, let's go talk. I shut up and listen
- 9:04Speaker 1: to you for me, because see, I can't stand people
- 9:07Speaker 1: who are talented won't let nobody talk good about it
- 9:10Speaker 1: just just cut me off. The one of one of
- 9:13Speaker 1: the one of them, one of them, want them come
- 9:15Speaker 1: to the mountain speeches. But you know I'm gonna get
- 9:20Speaker 1: do what you gotta do conversations. I'm gonna tell you
- 9:25Speaker 1: I'm excited about these conversations because I work extremely hard,
- 9:30Speaker 1: but I don't I don't I don't look for the credit, right,
- 9:33Speaker 1: So for you to give me my flowers, I want
- 9:35Speaker 1: to say that I appreciate you because like it's not
- 9:38Speaker 1: my intention to get the flowers. Like I work hard
- 9:40Speaker 1: because I love to do this like this when I say,
- 9:43Speaker 1: like I wake up in the morning at six o'clock
- 9:45Speaker 1: every single morning because my brain is wired like that,
- 9:49Speaker 1: because I know that I'm fulfilling my mission every single day,
- 9:52Speaker 1: like I love. I'm in love with that. So to
- 9:55Speaker 1: hear you speak on me like that, like I like,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I value that and I want to say thank you,
- 10:01Speaker 1: um because you know, sometimes you can always just be
- 10:04Speaker 1: in a weezeezee these weeds, but like just to stop down.
- 10:07Speaker 1: So I'm sitting here laughing when you're saying these things
- 10:09Speaker 1: about me, and and that feels good in my spirit.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Let's let's just google a little miss Pinky cot dot com,
- 10:17Speaker 1: Bill A Southern Or dot com, Rolling Out dot com,
- 10:21Speaker 1: Facebook dot com, Atlanta Magazine dot com, Big News dot
- 10:26Speaker 1: com dot com. See um, get your face and a
- 10:32Speaker 1: plate on any of those pictures. Okay, No, don't where
- 10:36Speaker 1: to be found. You know you know who image? Every
- 10:39Speaker 1: time I col you know what image I see? I
- 10:42Speaker 1: see Pinky co the Cream of v Thank you man,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I appreciate that. And you know, let me tell you something.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I'm listening now. I'm listening to you. I accidentally into
- 11:00Speaker 1: this right so like I'm sure you've probably read about
- 11:04Speaker 1: it before, but no, I'm new. I don't know nothing
- 11:07Speaker 1: about you. Talk to me like I because like I
- 11:10Speaker 1: told you, I knew you before you have food. I
- 11:12Speaker 1: didn't know. Somebody told me you know what she does
- 11:14Speaker 1: that vegan stuff. Yeah, but continue to educate me about
- 11:20Speaker 1: you because you wouldn't let me talk about you, so
- 11:22Speaker 1: obviously gonna tell me something I don't know. So continue
- 11:24Speaker 1: to talks. I'm learning you something. So the day that
- 11:29Speaker 1: I was born, while I was getting my freedom, my
- 11:32Speaker 1: father was leasing his he was being sending to life
- 11:34Speaker 1: in prison. He ended up doing twenty two years. So
- 11:37Speaker 1: growing up, my mother was working three and four jobs
- 11:41Speaker 1: every single day. Immigrants, you're making a woman making sure
- 11:44Speaker 1: that the lights were always on, that we always had
- 11:46Speaker 1: food on the table. We weren't we weren't. We weren't
- 11:49Speaker 1: eating what the average family was eating. But that's what
- 11:51Speaker 1: we made the best out of the big beans and
- 11:53Speaker 1: right when we did it. And she just made sure
- 11:56Speaker 1: that we had everything that we needed. We may not
- 11:58Speaker 1: have had everything that we wanted, but we definitely surely
- 12:01Speaker 1: had what we needed. So I remember maneuvering through life,
- 12:05Speaker 1: always wanting to figure out ways to put my mother
- 12:09Speaker 1: in position so that she didn't have to work that
- 12:11Speaker 1: hard because my father was in prison. Meanwhile, my father
- 12:14Speaker 1: would call me from prison from federal prison, telling me
- 12:18Speaker 1: what books to read, telling me about stocks and bonds,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and telling me like how to how to be a
- 12:23Speaker 1: boss and a leader. So I took those experiences and
- 12:27Speaker 1: I made them my own. I started throwing parties at
- 12:30Speaker 1: fourteen years oh. I was making four thousand dollars every
- 12:33Speaker 1: single week. I remember counting money with my mother on
- 12:36Speaker 1: the couch, making more than my mother. In high school,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I'm selling candy, selling food. Just always wanted to create
- 12:42Speaker 1: and just to just to get a residual off the
- 12:45Speaker 1: things that I put together. Right. Then, when I got
- 12:48Speaker 1: to college, I paid my way through college by doing
- 12:51Speaker 1: hair right. So beyond that, I've just always found ways
- 12:56Speaker 1: to make money, UM and to create things that people
- 12:59Speaker 1: would be saidatisfied with. So in I came up with
- 13:03Speaker 1: this concept after working at the Mori Show as the
- 13:06Speaker 1: television producer called Pinky's Jamaican an American restaurant, and I
- 13:09Speaker 1: had this restaurant. It was doing well. I did my research.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I didn't literally I just wanted to have a business.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I'm not a chef. I just liked to cook as
- 13:17Speaker 1: a passion project. I'm Jamaican, I like food. So I
- 13:20Speaker 1: came up with this concept and it was doing extremely
- 13:23Speaker 1: well for me not to know anything about business. But
- 13:25Speaker 1: then I realized that I needed to lose that restaurant
- 13:28Speaker 1: in order for it to propel me to to be
- 13:31Speaker 1: who you see today, right, So I had a grief
- 13:33Speaker 1: by at that restaurant, UM. And then I got an
- 13:36Speaker 1: opportunity to work as a casting director on the TV
- 13:38Speaker 1: show called Iona Fixed My Life. And while I was
- 13:41Speaker 1: on that show, UM, I eventually moved to Atlanta temporarily
- 13:45Speaker 1: UM to work, and then I was in the house
- 13:47Speaker 1: one day and I came up with letty vegans. But
- 13:49Speaker 1: never in a million years if you'd have told me
- 13:51Speaker 1: two years ago that that I bedroom idea that I
- 13:55Speaker 1: created would be one of the hottest contests in the country,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I would have told you you were lying. But I
- 14:00Speaker 1: said that to say you know almost you said that
- 14:03Speaker 1: to say what pinky? And it almost felt like it
- 14:06Speaker 1: was on accident, But it was really divine right. It
- 14:09Speaker 1: was ricked. It was supposed to happen, and and and
- 14:12Speaker 1: now when I look at things, I realized that, like
- 14:15Speaker 1: I was walking in my purpose all along, it just
- 14:17Speaker 1: manifested through slutty vecan. And now we're here. Okay, cool?
- 14:20Speaker 1: So how did the name slutty vecan come about? Because
- 14:25Speaker 1: you said you came up with it? Who did you
- 14:27Speaker 1: share with anybody that you joking and came up with?
- 14:30Speaker 1: How did they come up? How was it I was?
- 14:33Speaker 1: I was sitting in the bed in the band Let
- 14:37Speaker 1: me tell you something. You sit up in your head
- 14:40Speaker 1: against the head board. How were you were your land?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Where were you? How will you sit? Let me tell
- 14:44Speaker 1: you I had some medicinal marijuana. See what you gonna do?
- 14:52Speaker 1: A couple of money making conversations. I was just sitting
- 14:54Speaker 1: in the bed. Nobody just sits. Look, that's the part
- 14:58Speaker 1: of the story that I don't really talk about. That's
- 15:00Speaker 1: a book bar but I'm gonna give you that pea.
- 15:01Speaker 1: But listen, I was this. I was sitting in the bed,
- 15:04Speaker 1: and I was gonna somebody cloud and I come up
- 15:07Speaker 1: with a million ideas all the time. I just if
- 15:09Speaker 1: you I don't something about being able to create ideas.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's almost like when a rapper freestyles, I could do that.
- 15:14Speaker 1: What idea? So we're sitting in the same room for
- 15:16Speaker 1: at least ten minutes, I didn't came up with about
- 15:18Speaker 1: ten ideas, and somebody walking away with a billion dollar ideas.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So I was sitting in the house and I had
- 15:24Speaker 1: my medicinal marijuana and and and and it came to
- 15:27Speaker 1: me like, oh, floody Vegan. Because I knew that if
- 15:30Speaker 1: I created pinky Vegan, it wasn't going to have the
- 15:33Speaker 1: same traction. And how did I know that. I knew
- 15:35Speaker 1: that because working in TV, I know what people pay
- 15:38Speaker 1: attention to. I know that sex cells. I know it's
- 15:41Speaker 1: gonna make them change the channel. I know what they're
- 15:43Speaker 1: gonna be tuned into. So I said, you know what,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the two most pleasurable experiences in life
- 15:49Speaker 1: and that sex and that spooed and I was put
- 15:51Speaker 1: it in the pot and I'm a skirt, and I'm
- 15:53Speaker 1: gonna create something that's gonna require people to ask questions
- 15:56Speaker 1: because guess what, the vegan lifestyle wasn't totally cool, right.
- 16:00Speaker 1: It wasn't something that black people, especially was that, oh
- 16:03Speaker 1: you know, let me get this cool schools. They're not
- 16:04Speaker 1: in that. They're like this, this ain't got no flavor.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I ain't in that. So how could I create something
- 16:09Speaker 1: that's going to get people who don't normally eat like
- 16:13Speaker 1: this to at least be interested in having a conversation.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So the name sounded racey and I liked it. So
- 16:19Speaker 1: many people was like, oh, that's too racy, that ain't
- 16:20Speaker 1: gonna work. But I'm like, guess what if you can't
- 16:22Speaker 1: get past the idea that we're not selling sex, we're
- 16:26Speaker 1: actually selling a lifestyle, but we're using sex as as
- 16:29Speaker 1: the buffer to get people to pay attention to all.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That's exactly what I did, and it worked, and there
- 16:37Speaker 1: was only I was just having this conversation earlier. I
- 16:40Speaker 1: got an opportunity um to participate in the Super Bowl
- 16:44Speaker 1: in the nineteen and they wanted me to change their name.
- 16:47Speaker 1: And at that point I realized, listen, I can never
- 16:50Speaker 1: waiver on what I created because I created it was intentional.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I created it for a reason. And if people can't
- 16:55Speaker 1: get past that intention and that mission, that those are
- 16:58Speaker 1: people that I don't want to work with. And it's
- 16:59Speaker 1: so kay, you don't have to work with everybody. So
- 17:02Speaker 1: here I am. Two years later, I got listen, I
- 17:06Speaker 1: got kids saying slutty began, Christians, muslim It don't matter
- 17:09Speaker 1: your age, your cree or wherever you're from. People are
- 17:11Speaker 1: talking about slutty began. You know why because not only
- 17:14Speaker 1: is it a Burger joint, we're helping the community. We're
- 17:17Speaker 1: giving back, we're providing resources, we're giving opportunities. We're showing

- 19:46Speaker 1: fifty nine thousand Instagram followers. I'm tell you all right.
- 19:52Speaker 1: You know when when I said up and talked to
- 19:55Speaker 1: little I'm gonna call you a baby genius. You know. Okay,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know the baby g was here, she up there
- 20:01Speaker 1: in her bed. You know, she got marketing skills. She
- 20:05Speaker 1: can articulate you guys, hear that on it. You know
- 20:07Speaker 1: she you know, she put like four or five sentences
- 20:09Speaker 1: in the row. I could actually just answer a question.
- 20:11Speaker 1: She talking for five minutes. I just have to cut
- 20:13Speaker 1: off because it's my shild She's not gonna do it.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Come on my show and the I'll talk meet now, okay,
- 20:19Speaker 1: an amazing games. Now now you said, you said I
- 20:23Speaker 1: put I took what people love the most, food and sects,
- 20:26Speaker 1: put them in the pot, and I just start stirring.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Let's start talking about that menu. Because see, you're right,
- 20:32Speaker 1: you know, because of the fact that I feel that
- 20:34Speaker 1: your name created such a high level of curiosity that
- 20:37Speaker 1: they brought in your age group, which is really key.
- 20:41Speaker 1: And that's why I feel you successful, because you know,
- 20:43Speaker 1: because because because vegan ism to me, to me was
- 20:46Speaker 1: always felt like older generation food. You know, they're trying
- 20:50Speaker 1: to eat food. You know, they figured out they need
- 20:52Speaker 1: to start eating because they have their blood pressure to
- 20:54Speaker 1: how they're trying to get light right. You made this
- 20:57Speaker 1: hip for your generation because you are millennial. But you
- 21:01Speaker 1: know it's so crazy. Let me tell you something real quick.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Sorry to cut you off, but I gotta say that
- 21:06Speaker 1: I don't know why. Okay, okay, okay, you know next time,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I know we just code, you're gonna we're gonna see
- 21:13Speaker 1: each other next time. I'm just let you we want
- 21:16Speaker 1: to see each other. Listen, the Aunties, they loved me.
- 21:20Speaker 1: My demographic is actually not the millennials. It's the more
- 21:23Speaker 1: it's the people that are conservative that make a medium
- 21:26Speaker 1: like like, listen, thirty five to fifty five is my
- 21:30Speaker 1: core audience that I see those I see the lines
- 21:35Speaker 1: I see Listen, these are women who have children, These
- 21:39Speaker 1: are women who are conservative. They literally this ain't it
- 21:43Speaker 1: ain't even just the millennials. You've got the older people,
- 21:45Speaker 1: the people that support me the most. I laughed and
- 21:48Speaker 1: joke with my friends. I'm like, listen, I don't get
- 21:49Speaker 1: what y'all say. The Aunties love me. And as long
- 21:51Speaker 1: as I got the Aunties in my back pocket, I'm good,
- 21:53Speaker 1: right right, and you got it? And so three and
- 21:56Speaker 1: fifty nine thousand Instagram follows. Now, how how the that
- 22:00Speaker 1: to help your business to have that the moue social
- 22:02Speaker 1: media force tied to your you know, certified account and
- 22:06Speaker 1: it's Instagram m so, so beyond just Instagram followers, right,
- 22:11Speaker 1: we have different channels where we have different audiences. On
- 22:14Speaker 1: so Facebook you may truly get like the aunties and
- 22:17Speaker 1: the families, and then on Instagram you get the younger people.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But then we also have a community text group where
- 22:23Speaker 1: I can text my consumer, right, I can text them
- 22:26Speaker 1: like I'm having a regular conversation with them, and we
- 22:28Speaker 1: do that. We do it in the most organic way.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I'm texting them like, hey, big head, what you're doing?
- 22:32Speaker 1: Come see me? And then I put the restaurant address,
- 22:34Speaker 1: so I have about seven thousand people in there, and
- 22:37Speaker 1: then I have twenty thousand people on my email blast.
- 22:39Speaker 1: So how it helps me is that, however I want
- 22:42Speaker 1: to communicate with my people, I can use a different
- 22:45Speaker 1: channel to do that and a different tone to do
- 22:47Speaker 1: that to get my message across. So say God forbid
- 22:50Speaker 1: Instagram chests down today. I know I got different channels
- 22:53Speaker 1: to communicate with the people, but it's gonna benefit to
- 22:56Speaker 1: me nonetheless, because I can touch the people. And that's
- 22:59Speaker 1: why a love sloly vegan because you see here, you
- 23:02Speaker 1: see a restaurant concept that is moving into a corporate
- 23:06Speaker 1: structure of the business. We're moving at scale, we're open
- 23:09Speaker 1: up new locations, but we still have the voice of
- 23:11Speaker 1: the people, right. We still insert things that are happening
- 23:16Speaker 1: in the culture into the business in an authentic way
- 23:19Speaker 1: where that's that's not exploiting people, but making people feel
- 23:22Speaker 1: comfortable and safe to say that. Guess what I see
- 23:25Speaker 1: myself in this business. I see the journey. I can
- 23:29Speaker 1: follow the journey and I can grow with this journey
- 23:31Speaker 1: because I feel like I'm a part of it, and
- 23:32Speaker 1: we make people feel a part of that journey. And
- 23:34Speaker 1: that's really why it works. So we're able to use
- 23:37Speaker 1: the channels um that we have, and we have multiple channels,
- 23:39Speaker 1: and we grow those channels every single day. Great, fantastic,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you're are a marketing guru. Now you come on my show.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I got ninty three thousand fan club members, my lot
- 23:53Speaker 1: blast I got when my Facebook got almost eight hundred
- 23:57Speaker 1: thousand Facebook I see all this because I know you
- 24:00Speaker 1: opening up a new a third location in Atlanta, Georgia. Correct, Okay,
- 24:05Speaker 1: can can little low Rashawn McDonald money making conversation dot com.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Can he help promote your brand? Can you? Can I
- 24:13Speaker 1: do that for you? Sure, because you're a marketing machine.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I'm just saying, I finally I got you in my life, Pinky.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I don't want to let you go, So I got
- 24:27Speaker 1: I gotta boy down to the queen. Now, you know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: when you know, when you when the queen come in
- 24:30Speaker 1: the room, you gotta stand out from everybody else. You know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: you know I ain't got no six pack. I gotta
- 24:35Speaker 1: stand that with marketing. I got the marketing over here.
- 24:40Speaker 1: So we definitely could do something to your third location.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Tell us about your third location, because I'm all feature
- 24:46Speaker 1: that Rushaun Eats. I dropped that every Wednesday on my
- 24:49Speaker 1: Facebook page and on my Instagram. I gotta like forty
- 24:53Speaker 1: thousand followers on my Instagram account, and of course I
- 24:56Speaker 1: got my YouTube account, forty thousand on my YouTube money
- 24:59Speaker 1: May conversation dot Com. More importantly, you know, I I
- 25:03Speaker 1: feel comfortable and being able to joke around with you
- 25:06Speaker 1: because of the fact that you know you're a real
- 25:09Speaker 1: person in the community. But before we get into your community,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I want to talk about this third location you're opening,
- 25:14Speaker 1: telling people why you're opening it. You know we're coming
- 25:17Speaker 1: out of the pandemic. Okay, well we're not eat out
- 25:19Speaker 1: of the pandemic. You made a decision to open up
- 25:22Speaker 1: a third restaurant. Talk about it. Where is it located at? UM?
- 25:25Speaker 1: So you know what I learned about Slutty Vegan and
- 25:28Speaker 1: Slutty Vegan is weather proof, right, um, and slutty Vegans
- 25:32Speaker 1: COVID proof as long as we continue to do what
- 25:35Speaker 1: we've been doing and learn how to pivot. And I
- 25:37Speaker 1: think that that's the beautiful thing about entrepreneurs knowing how
- 25:40Speaker 1: to pivot, right, like being a chameleon, and like facing
- 25:44Speaker 1: adversity and understand how to like change that adversity into
- 25:47Speaker 1: a benefit to your business. And I think that I've
- 25:49Speaker 1: been able to do that very well. And I say
- 25:51Speaker 1: all that to say that I just opened up another
- 25:53Speaker 1: little second location a month ago. They've got lines down
- 25:57Speaker 1: the block. So now I got two locations with the
- 25:59Speaker 1: lines down the block. Any day now I'm opening my
- 26:01Speaker 1: third location and historic fourth Ward on Edgewood, UM. And
- 26:04Speaker 1: I'm doing that also in the middle of a pandemic.
- 26:07Speaker 1: But I'm excited about that location because there's so much
- 26:11Speaker 1: history there. Martin Luther King grew up, um less than
- 26:15Speaker 1: than two minutes away from that location, so there's a
- 26:17Speaker 1: lot of historic elements. Um, you got all burned over there.
- 26:20Speaker 1: So there's a lot going on in that neighborhood. And
- 26:22Speaker 1: I feel like we can continue to revitalize Edgewood when
- 26:25Speaker 1: we put a new staple in the community like Floody Deacon.
- 26:28Speaker 1: It's not just coming just to make money. We're coming
- 26:30Speaker 1: to to really like help the community grow right and
- 26:33Speaker 1: be better. And that's what we do in every single community.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So Edgewood is opening in the next few days. I'm
- 26:39Speaker 1: excited about it. It's three thousand square feet. Um, we
- 26:42Speaker 1: got a full on kitchen. It's really just going to
- 26:45Speaker 1: be experienced, right. People come and they could feel like
- 26:47Speaker 1: they're at home when they come to Edgewood. When they
- 26:50Speaker 1: come inside of Floody Deacon, they're gonna see pieces of history.
- 26:53Speaker 1: There's gonna remind them why Atlanta it's so necessary, why
- 26:56Speaker 1: Edgewood is so necessary, and why business and commerce is
- 26:59Speaker 1: so necessary. So you'll you'll get pieces of that. You're
- 27:02Speaker 1: gonna get pieces of of the HBCUs that are in
- 27:05Speaker 1: the community. You're gonna get elements of people who have
- 27:08Speaker 1: taken Atlanta to the next level through politics, through business
- 27:11Speaker 1: like you're gonna get a lot of that. And what
- 27:14Speaker 1: we've learned how to do in a great way and
- 27:16Speaker 1: we continue to do it, is we know how to
- 27:18Speaker 1: teach and we know how to hide the education um
- 27:21Speaker 1: inside of the experience. And that's what we're gonna be
- 27:23Speaker 1: doing the Edgeword. So I'm excited. After Edgeword, We've got
- 27:25Speaker 1: two more locations that were opening up in Atlanta, and
- 27:28Speaker 1: then I'm on to the next day because we're growing
- 27:30Speaker 1: and God is good man. Now I'll start trying to
- 27:36Speaker 1: figure out why I met your I'm gonna call you
- 27:38Speaker 1: short because you because you because you're talking all this
- 27:40Speaker 1: noise to be right now. Now, a couple of things
- 27:42Speaker 1: that you're doing in the community. Here this this National
- 27:45Speaker 1: Jiggle contest that you had, which I thought was super
- 27:47Speaker 1: smart with a bore, big ticker over there V one
- 27:49Speaker 1: oh three in Atlanta, Georgia. And then you're doing something
- 27:52Speaker 1: with this Georgia Department of Junior Juvenile Justice to d
- 27:55Speaker 1: j J with the ten tho dollar scholarship jobs at
- 27:59Speaker 1: your just all tied through the Pinky Cold Foundation and
- 28:03Speaker 1: you being Pinky Cold that owned the slowly vegan restaurant.
- 28:06Speaker 1: These are both empowering formats. One is empowering and for
- 28:10Speaker 1: entertainment purposes and let people know that they get the
- 28:13Speaker 1: opportunity to work with an establish a national known recording artists.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Right there alone means that you got juice. And then
- 28:21Speaker 1: you're on the show with my board, big ticker on
- 28:23Speaker 1: A on A one on three v one on three.
- 28:25Speaker 1: And then now you're doing the d J J with
- 28:29Speaker 1: the Georgia Department. So talk of the reason behind both
- 28:32Speaker 1: of adventures, I should say, And because I watched my
- 28:38Speaker 1: mother being philanthropist. She was she was a hood philanthropist.
- 28:42Speaker 1: She didn't even realize what she was doing. But you
- 28:44Speaker 1: watch it, though, but you watch, but I watched her right,
- 28:47Speaker 1: So like I remember being a kid and we got
- 28:49Speaker 1: ten people living in the house, so like the community
- 28:53Speaker 1: community was embedded in me. As a kid, I didn't
- 28:56Speaker 1: understand what was happening, but I just knew that there
- 28:58Speaker 1: were people coming from Jamaica that standing at my mother's house,
- 29:01Speaker 1: that that we didn't share the same blood, but they
- 29:02Speaker 1: became family. Right, So all through my life I absorbed
- 29:06Speaker 1: that watching my mother do that and saw her selfless
- 29:09Speaker 1: attitude and behavior and how she moved as a queen,
- 29:11Speaker 1: and I really like captured that from my mother, so
- 29:15Speaker 1: as an adult, it's full circle. And I laught for
- 29:17Speaker 1: my mother about this because, like, philanthropy is at the
- 29:20Speaker 1: core of who I am. Right, So I'm a magnet.
- 29:23Speaker 1: The money, money is gonna come to me. I'm gonna
- 29:25Speaker 1: get it regardless. But to be able to help people
- 29:27Speaker 1: and provide resources for people, that is more money than
- 29:31Speaker 1: any dollar bill could ever be in my bank account
- 29:34Speaker 1: because I know that I get to uplift people, and
- 29:36Speaker 1: I know that those blessings are going to come back
- 29:38Speaker 1: ten folds. So when I created the foundation, I created
- 29:41Speaker 1: it because one being totally transparent my finance God like junk.
- 29:46Speaker 1: You're spending a lot of money. How do people were like,
- 29:48Speaker 1: what we're gonna do? I said, you know what, let's
- 29:50Speaker 1: put some structure. That is because I'm the type of
- 29:52Speaker 1: person I'm gonna take the shirt off my back to
- 29:53Speaker 1: help somebody else. So I created my foundation to do
- 29:56Speaker 1: exactly what I do in my real life. Helped he
- 30:00Speaker 1: So I partner with the Department of Juvenile Justice to
- 30:04Speaker 1: provide opportunities for thirty X juvenile offenders. Right because I
- 30:08Speaker 1: see them as people, and I know what it felt
- 30:10Speaker 1: like to be on the receiving end of somebody being
- 30:13Speaker 1: caught up in the system. So I wanted to help
- 30:14Speaker 1: them and show them a different way of life. That's
- 30:16Speaker 1: number one. UM. Number two providing resources for businesses in
- 30:20Speaker 1: my area, the businesses in which I served. You know,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I've helped them um financially support themselves while going through
- 30:28Speaker 1: COVID and making sure that the people around me are
- 30:30Speaker 1: doing good, because if I'm doing good and they're not
- 30:32Speaker 1: doing good, then I'm not winning, right that's number two. UM.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Number three in my foundation, I'm doing something called vote
- 30:38Speaker 1: nick Um with Jamaine dupri and Impossible Fools to get
- 30:42Speaker 1: people excited about voting. So at the end of the day,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I don't care who you vote for. Just vote because
- 30:48Speaker 1: guess what, Once upon a time we didn't have the
- 30:50Speaker 1: rights and the ability to do that. So now that
- 30:52Speaker 1: you have an opportunity to do that, exercise that however
- 30:54Speaker 1: you do it just exercises so that your voice could
- 30:56Speaker 1: be heard. But those are just three of the million
- 31:00Speaker 1: things that we've already done in the foundation. But it
- 31:02Speaker 1: feels good to know that I can use that platform
- 31:05Speaker 1: to help people build generational wealth. Oh and the one
- 31:08Speaker 1: thing that I didn't This is the biggest thing that
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'm working on, and I'm actually about to forget something, Okay,
- 31:16Speaker 1: I am. I'm partnering with um Derrek Kay's he owns
- 31:20Speaker 1: a restaurant called Big Days Cheese Steaks. We're doing a
- 31:23Speaker 1: life insurance initiative where we're providing life insurance for every
- 31:26Speaker 1: single black man in Atlanta who makes thirty tho dollars
- 31:29Speaker 1: a less um so that they don't have to pay
- 31:32Speaker 1: for So what I do is like real community work. Right.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So like I called myself a hood politician, right, I'm
- 31:39Speaker 1: not like I'm not super versed in politics that to
- 31:41Speaker 1: be honest, that's really not my thing. However, I like
- 31:44Speaker 1: to help people, and I know that I can reach
- 31:46Speaker 1: the community by helping them and showing them that there's
- 31:48Speaker 1: a better way, by providing them resources, giving them access
- 31:52Speaker 1: to information because you know, people don't really want to
- 31:54Speaker 1: give us access. But now I'm gonna make it my
- 31:56Speaker 1: responsibility to provide access resources and to show people about
- 32:00Speaker 1: financial literacy. The things that I did learn now I
- 32:02Speaker 1: know that I can show you and I do all
- 32:04Speaker 1: of that through my foundation. Well, she is the queen
- 32:08Speaker 1: I love her. First time we've actually talked, this first
- 32:10Speaker 1: time we've actually communicated, and she got to hear what
- 32:13Speaker 1: I think about her, and I hope she understands this
- 32:16Speaker 1: is on his talk from somebody who recognizes gifted people.
- 32:19Speaker 1: And more importantly, her community involvement is really to me
- 32:24Speaker 1: more important than her food, and her food is the
- 32:26Speaker 1: bonus part of who she is, because she is not
- 32:29Speaker 1: forgotten that it takes a whole to be successful, not
- 32:32Speaker 1: a half. You have to you have everybody has to
- 32:36Speaker 1: be part of the opportunity. And she understands that and
- 32:38Speaker 1: she values that. Sluggy Vegan is a is a product.
- 32:42Speaker 1: It started, like she said, started in her bedroom. I
- 32:44Speaker 1: always tell people on this show, you have to be
- 32:46Speaker 1: motivated by an opportunity and you have to put a
- 32:48Speaker 1: plan in place, and you have to give effort for
- 32:50Speaker 1: that plan to be successful. That's what you've done, Pinky
- 32:53Speaker 1: with your brand. You know, it's an idea. We all
- 32:56Speaker 1: have ideas, and you decided that you guess what I'm
- 32:59Speaker 1: I'm gonna put it in place. And then when people
- 33:01Speaker 1: try to try to twist it, try to come in
- 33:04Speaker 1: with a crazy idea of question you. First of all,
- 33:07Speaker 1: you whenever I would tell people, whenever somebody questioned you
- 33:09Speaker 1: on your idea, ask them how much have they participate?
- 33:13Speaker 1: Are they participated with money? Are they participating with work responsibility?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Or they just participating because they're just verbally commenting those
- 33:21Speaker 1: people have to ignore it first, and then when you
