Speaker 1: Today's show is pre recorded. Y'all know what time y'all

Speaker 1: don't know, y'all a sun giving them like the million
0:16
Speaker 1: bucks things in the stubbs. Stood at Steve listening to
0:25
Speaker 1: the mother. I don't join jo. You got turning? You
1:22
Speaker 1: are you gotta turn to turn them out? Turn you
1:43
Speaker 1: got to turn them out, turn the water the water go.
1:55
Speaker 1: Come come on your fa uh huh, I sure will.
2:03
Speaker 1: Good morning everybody. You're listening to the voice, Come on now,
2:08
Speaker 1: DIGNI want and only Steve Harvey, God, what radio show man?
2:16
Speaker 1: What you're doing with it? Trying to do the very
2:18
Speaker 1: very best I can with it? I really am. You know,
2:21
Speaker 1: I get tired sometimes on my journey. I'm not gonna
2:25
Speaker 1: kid you. Um. Trying to make something about yourself is
2:30
Speaker 1: a task. If you want to attempt to do something,
2:37
Speaker 1: and and and understand going in that that the if
2:41
Speaker 1: the thing you're trying to do is to improve yourself,
2:45
Speaker 1: to better your position, to better your relationship, your family, anything,
2:51
Speaker 1: you're trying to be a better you. You're trying to
2:55
Speaker 1: make more money, you're trying to get it together, you're
2:59
Speaker 1: trying to change if any of those things are in
3:03
Speaker 1: your hopes and dreams. Know this right here, you are
3:09
Speaker 1: about to face some challenges. But you might as well
3:13
Speaker 1: go ahead anyway and face those challenges, because if you don't,
3:18
Speaker 1: you have a whole other set of challenges to face.
3:22
Speaker 1: You know. It's a it's a It's an amazing thing. Man,
3:25
Speaker 1: How people sit around and they watch other people strike
3:29
Speaker 1: out to become successful. They sit in the stands watching
3:33
Speaker 1: these people play out these games, and they and they,
3:36
Speaker 1: and they criticize, They boo, they laugh at their efforts
3:39
Speaker 1: and everything, and they talk about the fairies. He missed
3:43
Speaker 1: that game when it shot. Boy, he sucked. Man, he
3:46
Speaker 1: did this. He ain't worth that. I hear people who
3:51
Speaker 1: sit and stands who criticize people who are out there
3:56
Speaker 1: on the playing field. Now, when you're on the playing field,
4:01
Speaker 1: you have a set of challenges in front of you.
4:04
Speaker 1: You're going to be open to criticism. You're going to
4:07
Speaker 1: be open to ridicule. You're going to be talked about
4:11
Speaker 1: when you don't know the people who are talking about you.
4:16
Speaker 1: Now here's the upside to being the player on the
4:22
Speaker 1: field that's facing all the challenges, to criticisms, the laughing,
4:26
Speaker 1: the joke, to being talked about. He has something going
4:31
Speaker 1: for him. This person, boy, woman, child, girl, man has
4:39
Speaker 1: an opportunity to win. They have an opportunity to win.
4:45
Speaker 1: And then the game of life. Just because you lose
4:50
Speaker 1: one of the games, or you lose one of the matches,
4:54
Speaker 1: it don't mean you've lost. You don't get put out.
4:57
Speaker 1: You keep playing. When you're playing, here's the upside. You
5:03
Speaker 1: have the opportunity to win. And but guess what, You're
5:06
Speaker 1: gonna win some of the matches. You're gonna win some
5:09
Speaker 1: of the points. You're gonna make some of the dunks.
5:11
Speaker 1: You're gonna hit some of them over the wall. You're
5:12
Speaker 1: gonna hit some of them out the park. You're gonna
5:15
Speaker 1: score some goals. You will if you're playing the game.
5:20
Speaker 1: Here's the problem with the people who don't face the criticism,
5:26
Speaker 1: who nobody boos or cheers for, who sits in the
5:30
Speaker 1: stands and knows neither victory nor defeat. Those people, without
5:38
Speaker 1: realizing it, are facing a set of challenges also. And
5:43
Speaker 1: the challenges they're facing is how I'm gonna live with myself,
5:49
Speaker 1: What I'm gonna do? Now, what direction am I going in?
5:57
Speaker 1: Where am I gonna live? Wonder what job will hire me?
6:05
Speaker 1: Wonder if I can get paid for criticize. Oh woe
6:10
Speaker 1: is me? I can't find the purpose in my life.
6:16
Speaker 1: And man, I'm just waking up in a state of confusion.
6:19
Speaker 1: I don't know what to do. Now, let me ask
6:22
Speaker 1: you something which one of them said, of challenges you
6:25
Speaker 1: rather be faced with. Because if I'm on the flow playing,
6:29
Speaker 1: if I'm on the field playing, if I'm out on
6:32
Speaker 1: the court playing, then guess what I got a chance
6:36
Speaker 1: at winning? But guess what I'm doing every day while
6:39
Speaker 1: I'm playing. I'm strategizing. I'm waking up with a purpose.
6:43
Speaker 1: I'm waking up trying to come up with another angle.
6:48
Speaker 1: I'm in pursuit of a goal every single day, versus
6:54
Speaker 1: the people in the stands who know neither victory nor defeat.
7:04
Speaker 1: Get in the game. Face the challenges. Better yourself, better
7:09
Speaker 1: your wife, better your children, better your condition, better your
7:12
Speaker 1: employment status, better your job, better your career. Take a shot.
7:16
Speaker 1: Come on, man, what you're waiting on? Because the alternative
7:20
Speaker 1: is to watch other people play the game? You know?
7:24
Speaker 1: And I just do Sometimes Sometimes I just I get
7:27
Speaker 1: Forbes magazine or Money magazine, or sometimes I still grab
7:32
Speaker 1: a copy of rob Report. I just flipped through it.
7:35
Speaker 1: Just to see. I used to get these this book
7:38
Speaker 1: called Unique Homes. Unique Homes is a magazine that just
7:42
Speaker 1: has a lot of extravagant houses that's on sale across
7:45
Speaker 1: the country, across the world. I used to just flipped through. Man,
7:49
Speaker 1: let me just see, man, what the people that's playing
7:52
Speaker 1: the game out there doing. Stop watching other people become
7:56
Speaker 1: successful when you could very easily be you if you
8:00
Speaker 1: make the decision. But when you make the decision to
8:03
Speaker 1: become successful, get ready for a series of challenges. I
8:07
Speaker 1: think it's more difficult not to accept the challenge. I
8:12
Speaker 1: think it's for me. This is just for me. It
8:14
Speaker 1: may not be the case for you. For me, I
8:16
Speaker 1: think it's far more difficult to wake up and just
8:19
Speaker 1: see how life gonna go today, because, man, it could
8:21
Speaker 1: just deal you any kind of hand today. You understand,
8:27
Speaker 1: I don't like, you know, spades. Let's let's talk a
8:31
Speaker 1: card game, folks, the game of spades. Really, man, it
8:34
Speaker 1: ain't a whole lot you can do if you don't
8:36
Speaker 1: get no spades. Really, it's a little couple of little
8:39
Speaker 1: strategies you're gonna do. But you can have all this
8:42
Speaker 1: age keen, queen diamond all you want, but man, you
8:44
Speaker 1: ain't got no spades. They're cutting them. You're in trouble.
8:48
Speaker 1: Be it whist. Different game. You can create what's in
8:52
Speaker 1: your hand. You got dealt a hand too, But you
8:55
Speaker 1: can create a hand. You can call a trump. You
8:58
Speaker 1: can make diamonds your spades. You can make it hard
9:01
Speaker 1: to clubs your spades. That's what I'm saying. That's what
9:04
Speaker 1: it is. You can do something with it. It's a
9:06
Speaker 1: different game, man. You can strategize. I would rather have
9:09
Speaker 1: a say so in my life than to wake up
9:11
Speaker 1: every day and just see how it's going. I think
9:14
Speaker 1: it's more difficult to not accept the challenge to be
9:17
Speaker 1: something than it is to accept the challenge to be something.
9:21
Speaker 1: I think it's more difficult to sit around and not
9:23
Speaker 1: be nothing. I think it's harder to watch everybody's life
9:26
Speaker 1: going somewhere but mine. I think it would be very
9:29
Speaker 1: difficult for me to sit here and hear them talking
9:32
Speaker 1: about other people and never mention my name. I would
9:34
Speaker 1: be difficult for me to see everybody rise and getting
9:37
Speaker 1: promotions accept me. That would be difficult for me. It
9:41
Speaker 1: may not be for you, but for me it would
9:43
Speaker 1: be quite challenging. I would rather accept the challenge of
9:46
Speaker 1: making something out of my life than to sit there
9:49
Speaker 1: and criticize those and then watch and see how my
9:53
Speaker 1: life just may go. Okay, just a thought today you're listening,
9:57
Speaker 1: tow ladies and gentlemen. Here it is. It's time. It's
10:04
Speaker 1: the Steve Harvey Morning Show where we were bringing you
10:09
Speaker 1: information today, try to inform you, enlighten you. Um not
10:14
Speaker 1: a lot of entertainment. I'm just gonna be honest with you, man,
10:17
Speaker 1: I'm just it's it's just a lot going on right now.
10:22
Speaker 1: But we're here to keep you informed and enlighten best
10:24
Speaker 1: we can. And this is the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
10:28
Speaker 1: So Shirley Strawberry, Hey, Steve, good morning. Wow, Colin Farrell,
10:33
Speaker 1: good morning. What's up? Crewe How are you all that there?
10:36
Speaker 1: Junior morning? Everybody morning? Uh? J Anthony Brown, sick and Tad, Yes, sir, Nephew,
10:44
Speaker 1: Tommy Mo. Time to asso mode. Yeah, it's it's exhausting,
10:49
Speaker 1: and it is you know, the light for me and
10:53
Speaker 1: all of this is that I'm seeing more than black
10:56
Speaker 1: people outraged like that. That's the light all of this
11:00
Speaker 1: for me, and that's the only way that I know
11:04
Speaker 1: that this thing can get fixed because they have to
11:08
Speaker 1: have pure pressure when they go home at night. It
11:11
Speaker 1: can't be from black people. That has to be from
11:13
Speaker 1: their neighbors, the classmates. And so I'm excited about the
11:17
Speaker 1: light that I see. I want young people out there
11:21
Speaker 1: who are protesting to be careful, stay within the bounds
11:28
Speaker 1: of the law. You're gonna have to obey these curfews
11:32
Speaker 1: that they real. You can get arrested for disobeying these curfews.
11:37
Speaker 1: If you damage property, that's a crime. I'm just letting
11:42
Speaker 1: you know. And so you've we've got to keep this protest.
11:46
Speaker 1: It'll work just fine the way it's working, man, it
11:49
Speaker 1: will work just fine with protests because we have enough
11:52
Speaker 1: people trying to join in with us. So be careful
11:55
Speaker 1: out there, folks. If you're going to protest, do it lawfully,
12:00
Speaker 1: do not break the law, obey the curfeus, be peaceful,
12:04
Speaker 1: get your hands up, don't throw anything, don't don't give
12:08
Speaker 1: them a reason to arrest and attack you, and don't
12:12
Speaker 1: give them a way to change the narrative. Yeah, and
12:15
Speaker 1: to throw you in jail. See, I gotta ask you this,
12:18
Speaker 1: is there something different do you think or feel about
12:23
Speaker 1: this particular protest? What's happening in the country. Now, you know,
12:28
Speaker 1: when you compare it to other of course, yea. The
12:32
Speaker 1: biggest difference I see is that there are a lot
12:35
Speaker 1: of non blacks who have joined in. That's how you
12:40
Speaker 1: get this thing to move in the right way. Now,
12:44
Speaker 1: what I'm hoping this does is as frustrating as voting
12:50
Speaker 1: has seemed to young people, it's not making a change.
12:54
Speaker 1: This is the beginning of change because your vote, combined
12:59
Speaker 1: with a lot of the votes can make, it's going
13:01
Speaker 1: to make a huge, huge difference here. And I think
13:04
Speaker 1: this anger that these young people are feeling, and rightfully so.
13:08
Speaker 1: And I'm in one percent of protests, but peaceful protests.
13:12
Speaker 1: I think it's going to push people to the polls
13:14
Speaker 1: that would not normally go yeah, and you can change
13:18
Speaker 1: what's happening because the direction of this country that's coming
13:21
Speaker 1: from the White House is non directional, yeah or backwards,
13:26
Speaker 1: and you can change that by voting. Yeah. All right,
13:31
Speaker 1: Steve coming up at thirty two minutes after the hour.
13:33
Speaker 1: It's been a difficult, very difficult and angry weekend. It's
13:38
Speaker 1: been all across America. We're going to talk about that
13:41
Speaker 1: right after this. You're listening to Morning show coming up
13:46
Speaker 1: next hour. Attorney, politician, political commentator, and author Bakari Sellers
13:52
Speaker 1: will be our special guest. But first, protests erupts all
13:57
Speaker 1: around the country and the world, from Minneapolis, New York,
14:00
Speaker 1: Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Philadelphia, Dallas, Washington, d C.
14:06
Speaker 1: At the White House, Yes, George Floyd's hometown of Houston,
14:12
Speaker 1: and more cities around the country. People also protested worldwide
14:16
Speaker 1: in London and Berlin and Toronto in support of our
14:20
Speaker 1: protesting here in the United States. People took to the
14:23
Speaker 1: streets to protest the outrage we all saw it on
14:27
Speaker 1: video the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police
14:30
Speaker 1: officer while Floyd was being detained. Some of the protests
14:34
Speaker 1: were peaceful and some with other agendas turned the marching
14:38
Speaker 1: into violence, clashes with police as they use rubber bullets
14:43
Speaker 1: and tear gas. We saw arson, we saw fires, vehicles
14:46
Speaker 1: getting destroyed, protesters and police getting injured. It was I mean,
14:52
Speaker 1: we saw a little bit of everything on TV this weekend.
14:56
Speaker 1: You know, it's difficult sitting on the couch which you're
14:59
Speaker 1: eight year old son, trying to explain this, trying to
15:03
Speaker 1: make it. It's so difficult to try to explain what
15:07
Speaker 1: this is all about. And his big question is why,
15:11
Speaker 1: why why are they doing this? Well, Tommy, my son Winton,
15:16
Speaker 1: who lives in the downtown Atlanta area, was out there
15:21
Speaker 1: last night amongst the protesters because he's a photography student
15:26
Speaker 1: and he wanted to capture it on photography and he
15:30
Speaker 1: ended up shooting a video that I posted on my Instagram,
15:34
Speaker 1: which I was very proud of his work as a
15:37
Speaker 1: as a student trying to capture the moment. He caught
15:40
Speaker 1: this woman talking and Winton caught her talking and recorded
15:45
Speaker 1: it and put her and used her in the making
15:50
Speaker 1: of this video of the protest last night, and I
15:55
Speaker 1: put it on my i G page and it's really
15:57
Speaker 1: it's really really He's the work that I was proud
16:01
Speaker 1: of by him. And then of course I'm his father.
16:04
Speaker 1: So we had had his long talk about Okay, you'ven't
16:07
Speaker 1: done that, that's enough, and he said, Dad, but I
16:10
Speaker 1: had to do my part and I can't. What can
16:11
Speaker 1: I tell him? I mean, I gotta let him, you know,
16:14
Speaker 1: speak out. He's seeing stuff at twenty two, right, and
16:19
Speaker 1: I've seen a lot more of it than he has,
16:23
Speaker 1: and he's sick and he wanted to show how sicken
16:26
Speaker 1: it it was by doing a video and put it
16:28
Speaker 1: on his ig page and I put it on mind
16:30
Speaker 1: so if you want to see what went and captured
16:33
Speaker 1: on video before the curfew, and he did it before
16:36
Speaker 1: the curfew. So the curfew, he ain't out there tonight.
16:40
Speaker 1: Yeah good, yeah, go ahead. God just asked him not
16:44
Speaker 1: to go. You know, I'm his father, man, I don't
16:45
Speaker 1: want you to because bro, don't let him arrest you
16:48
Speaker 1: for disobeying curfew because now we got another problem. Right.
16:52
Speaker 1: And then Tommy, your son is little. You you have
16:56
Speaker 1: to explain this to him at such a young age. Yeah, yeah,
17:01
Speaker 1: explain that. And then the fact that you you you
17:04
Speaker 1: play with a kid in the neighborhood who is not
17:08
Speaker 1: the same color as you. And then the friends, yeah,
17:11
Speaker 1: their friends, and you know I'm trying to do I
17:16
Speaker 1: give him a heads up or I think the main
17:19
Speaker 1: thing is, here are these words I do not want
17:21
Speaker 1: people to call you. And when you hear this word,
17:25
Speaker 1: you come let me know about it. So we've started
17:28
Speaker 1: with that. So I'm not trying to put so much
17:31
Speaker 1: on an eight year old at one time, but you
17:33
Speaker 1: have to teach your son about racism, yeah, you know,
17:36
Speaker 1: And then I would say, and Steve has raised sons,
17:39
Speaker 1: and you have an older son, Tommy and Jay two,
17:42
Speaker 1: and then you have a younger son. You still have
17:44
Speaker 1: to have that other conversation, yeah, that black men have
17:49
Speaker 1: to have with their son, with their sons, yeah, and daughters.
17:55
Speaker 1: And it's a conversation that other people don't have to have.
17:59
Speaker 1: How to dress, what to do when the police pull over,
18:04
Speaker 1: where you should have your idea in the car, how
18:07
Speaker 1: your hands should be on top of the wheel, attending
18:09
Speaker 1: to with all your fingers spread out like starfish. You know,
18:12
Speaker 1: I mean to have to have this conversation. But you know,
18:16
Speaker 1: like I gonna saying, I just thought when the videos
18:20
Speaker 1: came out in social media that that would do it.
18:24
Speaker 1: Why they see it? They all know what we've been
18:27
Speaker 1: screaming about. Well, finally this one is on video, and
18:32
Speaker 1: now they're screaming. There was no screaming for Trayvon. See,
18:37
Speaker 1: there was no white outrage for Trayvon, right, and there
18:40
Speaker 1: was no video. They've seen what we've seen, but when
18:43
Speaker 1: it goes to court, it's like they don't see it.
18:46
Speaker 1: You see, but here's here's his depart When they say
18:52
Speaker 1: they're waiting on the grand jury to decide if they're
18:54
Speaker 1: going to be able to press charges or not. What
18:56
Speaker 1: I had to learn the hardway was the grand jury
18:59
Speaker 1: is just twitter registered voters. They're not a group of
19:03
Speaker 1: specialized elected officials. They're twelve of supposedly our peers who
19:08
Speaker 1: are never our peers. So the justice system it's just
19:13
Speaker 1: people and people. When they get in those rooms behind
19:18
Speaker 1: closed doors, they are allowed to continue to think and
19:21
Speaker 1: perpetrate the racist thoughts that they truly have without intervention
19:26
Speaker 1: from us, because we ain't back there right right, because
19:30
Speaker 1: we're not on the Julie. It's like, we need to
19:33
Speaker 1: be in the room when it happens you're arrested, reporter
19:40
Speaker 1: to arrest him, and these guys are not arrested. But see,
19:44
Speaker 1: I think two is the police department is unchecked. They
19:49
Speaker 1: have a department called IA, which is internal affairs, which
19:53
Speaker 1: all police officers are. All police officers hate because they
19:57
Speaker 1: investigate them. But that's not enough, because what has to
20:03
Speaker 1: happen is police officers who take this sworn oath of
20:06
Speaker 1: duty have to police one another. Look, man, so you
20:11
Speaker 1: can't come over here them three men should have said, hey, man,
20:14
Speaker 1: enough enough, we own his neck. Come on see. But
20:18
Speaker 1: them three officers sat there and was complacent. So if
20:23
Speaker 1: you in the car when the murder happened, if you're
20:25
Speaker 1: a regular citizen, you in the murder. And that's what
20:29
Speaker 1: a lot of the protesters are saying, if it was
20:31
Speaker 1: one of us, that even that's what has to happen.
20:35
Speaker 1: And that's why they're so upset because they haven't been
20:37
Speaker 1: arrested and they're waiting. When are they going to be arrested?
20:41
Speaker 1: Nick Cannon said it best, we need to call the
20:43
Speaker 1: police on the poder police. Yes he did, Yes, he did. Wow.
20:47
Speaker 1: Coming up, we'll talk about more of racism in America
20:52
Speaker 1: right after this. You're listening to show well, this country,
20:58
Speaker 1: we've been talking about it all morning, is crisis. You
21:01
Speaker 1: can't go anywhere and not know that this is happening.
21:05
Speaker 1: Uh No, federal leadership protests are erupting all over the country.
21:10
Speaker 1: Coming up in about twenty minutes after the hour, we're
21:12
Speaker 1: going to talk to um author Baccari Sellers. You know
21:17
Speaker 1: him as a politician, an attorney, frequent CNN correspondent and analysts.
21:23
Speaker 1: So we'll talk to Baccari Sellers coming up, But right now, Steve.
21:29
Speaker 1: We were talking about just you know, everything that's going on,
21:32
Speaker 1: the protests going on in Washington, and not a word,
21:37
Speaker 1: not a peep, maybe a couple of racist tweets from
21:41
Speaker 1: the president, but nothing of any you know, substance. I mean, look,
21:45
Speaker 1: this is not what he does. Is this is called leadership.
21:49
Speaker 1: He's never led people before, He's never been responsible for
21:55
Speaker 1: any lives outside of his family. I just don't believe that.
21:59
Speaker 1: So you are asking him to lead a nation and
22:02
Speaker 1: offer words of comfort when he's never comforting anyone. That's
22:05
Speaker 1: not his m that's not his business model. When he
22:09
Speaker 1: gets in financial trouble, he finds he files bankruptcy so
22:12
Speaker 1: he can keep going without pay. And that's that's what
22:18
Speaker 1: it is. Looks for tax loopoles, all of that. But
22:21
Speaker 1: I mean you, he can't call for calm anything, right.
22:28
Speaker 1: But this is when the president is supposed to be talking, right, Yes, yes,
22:32
Speaker 1: and your country, yes, your country. Your country is full
22:37
Speaker 1: of these unemployment and we are we have protests and
22:42
Speaker 1: we are rioting over racism, and you are silent. He's
22:47
Speaker 1: silent because they're trying to write something for him. Because
22:52
Speaker 1: the writers are in a room. What can we get
22:54
Speaker 1: him to say, and he's got to agree to it
22:57
Speaker 1: because they know when they put him out there, man,
22:59
Speaker 1: he gonna read to a certain point and then he
23:01
Speaker 1: gonna fly off. And they're trying to coach him right
23:04
Speaker 1: now on how to be a leader. But it's a
23:06
Speaker 1: sad state that we're in where we have to coach
23:10
Speaker 1: the leader of the biggest, richest nation in the world
23:15
Speaker 1: and he's in a corner somewhere not knowing what to
23:19
Speaker 1: say because he has no experience at calming people down. Look,
23:23
Speaker 1: the man don't go to church. You wanted the job. Yeah,
23:28
Speaker 1: he has never been a servant of people, that's right.
23:33
Speaker 1: He has never led people governed. He has never governed
23:37
Speaker 1: or cared for people. Well, what about that reality talk
23:40
Speaker 1: show he was he um, you know fired people on
23:44
Speaker 1: there was fired people And that's what he's doing up
23:47
Speaker 1: in the White House too. Everybody don't agree with it, right,
23:52
Speaker 1: that's right, he's still doing that show. You think he's
23:56
Speaker 1: scared though, right now? Since house then you see a
24:00
Speaker 1: bunch of angry black and white people and police in
24:03
Speaker 1: front of your front yard. Yeah, he was scared. He
24:06
Speaker 1: went to the bunk of this weekend. Where you're going,
24:12
Speaker 1: Where you going he can look out the window. You
24:18
Speaker 1: can hear it. You can hear it, Yeah, hear it.
24:23
Speaker 1: He doesn't know what to say, guys, he has no clue. What. No,
24:29
Speaker 1: it's not in his DNA, it's not in his makeup.
24:32
Speaker 1: And they are scurrying for him to make a statement
24:37
Speaker 1: because when he started talking about these National Guards, whoa man.
24:41
Speaker 1: Listen to me, dogs, you need to stop this here
24:44
Speaker 1: you just talking about See, he doesn't know anything itself
24:48
Speaker 1: how to be a bully or try to make a
24:50
Speaker 1: power move. So what, what and what I want? Everybody?
24:55
Speaker 1: Please be conscious of this while you're out here. He's
24:59
Speaker 1: looking for a way to flip this to his advantage.
25:04
Speaker 1: And if you keep looting, he gonna send in the
25:07
Speaker 1: National Guard like he's saving America. That's all he's waiting on.
25:11
Speaker 1: He's not offering one ounce of corrective measures to calm
25:16
Speaker 1: this down. Let's get the DJ. See if he has
25:20
Speaker 1: somebody other than bar he could send the d J
25:23
Speaker 1: down at the Department of Justice. Get these officers arrested,
25:27
Speaker 1: get all these cases put forward, get some convictions rolling,
25:31
Speaker 1: get some jail times going, and calm this thing down.
25:34
Speaker 1: Pass some legislative law. He got that inkpen. He can
25:37
Speaker 1: do what he want to do. Well, he said he's
25:39
Speaker 1: doing that. He said that he has Attorney General Bar,
25:43
Speaker 1: Attorney General Bar looking into that. That's what he said.
25:50
Speaker 1: The truth. I'm just telling you what he said. Yeah,
25:54
Speaker 1: I'm going on what the president says and what he
25:56
Speaker 1: or what he does, right, because I'm not doing anything. Yeah,
26:01
Speaker 1: him what he does and he doesn't do anything. But
26:03
Speaker 1: he said he says a lot. Yes, usually that's not true, Kimberly,
26:09
Speaker 1: nothing comes out of his mind. Nothing, and that's a shame. Yeah.
26:21
Speaker 1: And like old people said, here alive when he don't
26:24
Speaker 1: have to you just yea. When the truth will do
26:28
Speaker 1: like all the time. Yeah, the truth ain't any The
26:35
Speaker 1: truth will set you free. About that one. So, just
26:41
Speaker 1: no federal leadership. And you know he's just so busy
26:45
Speaker 1: attacking the Democratic leaders from the state of Minnesota and
26:49
Speaker 1: the mayor of Yeah, instead of you saying tweeting positive messages,
26:56
Speaker 1: all you do is attack, right, because you know what, Carla,
27:00
Speaker 1: he's trying to put blame anywhere but him, the mayor.
27:05
Speaker 1: The mayor immediately had the police officers fired from police department. Yes,
27:10
Speaker 1: he wanted at the mayor used to be a civil
27:14
Speaker 1: rights attorney. Right, yeah, you know Trump, I mean, I
27:19
Speaker 1: mean Crump explained all of that. That guy's good. Yeah,
27:23
Speaker 1: he's good. You've never seen action that that exact and
27:27
Speaker 1: swift against any officers before. I haven't. And speaking of
27:31
Speaker 1: Mayor Steve Um, can we say something about Atlanta Mayor
27:36
Speaker 1: Keisha Lance Bottoms. I mean, she is a leader. It's
27:41
Speaker 1: a leader she I mean really, I'm considering. You know,
27:46
Speaker 1: I know it hasn't been brought up yet, but I
27:48
Speaker 1: was like, why not Keisha Lanz Bottoms for VP? You know, yes,
27:52
Speaker 1: throw her hat in the throw her name in the hat.
27:56
Speaker 1: You have to get I think what they're looking for.
27:58
Speaker 1: And to be honest with I think she would be
28:01
Speaker 1: a great candidate Eventually. I think she has to get
28:05
Speaker 1: into the Senate, Congress, some type of more a little
28:08
Speaker 1: bit higher up legislative and then yeah, because that's what
28:14
Speaker 1: they're gonna and that's what they're gonna make it about.
28:17
Speaker 1: That's what they're gonna make it about with any woman
28:19
Speaker 1: who runs or any person of color. They just Trump
28:24
Speaker 1: got in because as a reality star. Yeah, but everybody else, Oh,
28:30
Speaker 1: they're gonna make sure that you have some type of
28:34
Speaker 1: something you know, and I mean this guy became the
28:37
Speaker 1: president with no experience and that to no compassion. He
28:44
Speaker 1: ain't blame all this on Obama yet, Yeah, yeah, And
28:52
Speaker 1: if Obama had done any of this that he's not doing,
28:56
Speaker 1: Trump is not doing all right. Seriously, We're gonna be
29:01
Speaker 1: talking about this all day. We have Baccari Sellers coming
29:05
Speaker 1: up to talk more about it, and we'll be back
29:07
Speaker 1: with more of the Steve Harvey Morning Show right after this.
29:10
Speaker 1: You're listening to show coming up in twenty minutes. Politician,
29:18
Speaker 1: political commentator, lawyer, and author Baccarie Sellers will be our
29:22
Speaker 1: special guest. Yeah yeah, but before we get to Baccari Sellers,
29:28
Speaker 1: NBA star Steph Stephen Jackson, who was a friend of
29:33
Speaker 1: George Floyd they even look like Twins, has been in
29:36
Speaker 1: Minneapolis fighting for justice for his brother and friend. However,
29:40
Speaker 1: he has a message for everyone protesting against police brutality
29:44
Speaker 1: to stay woke. Take a listen to this, hey man.
29:47
Speaker 1: I just wanted to touch in right now to tell
29:49
Speaker 1: y'all man, a support has been crazy, man, from my
29:51
Speaker 1: brother all around the world. Everybody's been standing for my
29:55
Speaker 1: brother man, and I definitely appreciate it, and I love y'all.
29:59
Speaker 1: I really appreciate shading man. We're definitely gonna get justice
30:02
Speaker 1: from my brother, and it's definitely because of all the
30:05
Speaker 1: love y'all been showing him. It means the world. But
30:09
Speaker 1: let's not lose what we've done. They're trying to play
30:12
Speaker 1: off our pain, so I want y'all to be smart. Idea, Okay,
30:16
Speaker 1: they're trying to play off our pain. They're sending people
30:19
Speaker 1: out to burn builders down and putting bricks in the
30:22
Speaker 1: middle of downtown, loose bricks just for people to throw.
30:25
Speaker 1: Be smart, keep fighting the good fight because we love y'all.
30:28
Speaker 1: We appreciate ya, and we wouldn't be making his noise
30:31
Speaker 1: without y'all. All right, but don't fall for the trick bag.
30:34
Speaker 1: Let's not hustle backwards. Keep it going. Yeah, not no, really, man,
30:42
Speaker 1: somebody just took a load of loose bricks and put
30:44
Speaker 1: them out there for people to throw. You gotta you
30:46
Speaker 1: gotta listen, man. This has been going on since the sixties.
30:50
Speaker 1: The government, the police department has hired agitators. This has
30:54
Speaker 1: proven agitators to blend in with them and in cite
31:00
Speaker 1: the riot even more so that they can turn around
31:04
Speaker 1: and flip the narrative and they've done it for years.
31:07
Speaker 1: And look, it's just all types of organizations who could
31:10
Speaker 1: do that. I'm not putting it all on the police
31:12
Speaker 1: or the FBI something like that. So let me let
31:14
Speaker 1: me fix this. There are organizations who plant people within
31:20
Speaker 1: the protesters to incite them to do more, and once
31:25
Speaker 1: they get it over more, then you can bring in
31:28
Speaker 1: the police, the tear gas, the rubber bullets, and then
31:32
Speaker 1: next thing you know, here comes National Guard and now
31:35
Speaker 1: all your causes is washed behind the mask of looting
31:40
Speaker 1: in violence. Yeah, so terrorists tight organizations, and they have
31:45
Speaker 1: different agendas, so to speak. So rubber bullets ain't no joke.
31:53
Speaker 1: Don't feel like rubber. That's the damn shell. It could
32:00
Speaker 1: put you down. Yeah. Well see they focused, seeing them,
32:06
Speaker 1: was focusing really hard on this white girl that had
32:08
Speaker 1: been hit by this rubbel bullet of you know, and
32:11
Speaker 1: that's her badge and her moment. You know, look, man,
32:15
Speaker 1: know this. They want to escalate this thing and turn
32:20
Speaker 1: this thing into some other bullets. That's why you have
32:23
Speaker 1: to be smart. And like Stephen Jackson said, we can't
32:26
Speaker 1: hustle backwards, get out there in protest, but be smart,
32:31
Speaker 1: don't hustle backwards. Don't allow them to change the narrative
32:36
Speaker 1: from the George Floyd, the Aubrey, the Tray, Varn Martins,
32:40
Speaker 1: the Eric Gardener. Don't let them change the depths and
32:44
Speaker 1: the injustices and flip it over to violence and looting,
32:49
Speaker 1: criminals in the street. That's all they want to say,
32:52
Speaker 1: so that they can wash away what the cause is.
32:56
Speaker 1: That's why you can't hustle backwards. We got to be smart.
32:59
Speaker 1: Y'all got to be smart. Get your hands up in protest.
33:04
Speaker 1: Don't throw canisters back at the police. You can't. You
33:07
Speaker 1: can't beat hate with mo hate. You ain't gonna be
33:10
Speaker 1: able to do it, all, right, Steve, We gotta get
33:14
Speaker 1: through today's headlines. Yeah, a lot going on today, ladies
33:18
Speaker 1: and gentlemen. Without further ado, Miss Anne Trip, thank you
33:22
Speaker 1: very much, everybody in good morning. Well. Murder victim George
33:24
Speaker 1: Floyd's body is being flown back to Houston, where he
33:27
Speaker 1: grew up, although no funeral plans have been announced yet
33:30
Speaker 1: by the family. George Floyd was a star's height end
33:33
Speaker 1: on his high school as a football team. He played
33:36
Speaker 1: in its nineteen ninety two state championship game at the
33:38
Speaker 1: Houston Astrodome. Also turns out that the now x cop
33:42
Speaker 1: charge was taking his life. Derek Chauvin most likely knew
33:45
Speaker 1: him because both works security at the same club. The
33:48
Speaker 1: former owner, Maya Santa Maria, told a local TV station
33:52
Speaker 1: to mister Floyd work inside as a bouncer, and that
33:56
Speaker 1: as an off duty cop, Chauvin worked outside. She also
33:59
Speaker 1: says that open had a pretty short fuse. She told
34:02
Speaker 1: a local TV station this often pulling out Mason pepper
34:05
Speaker 1: spray unnecessarily in her opinion. Meanwhile, looks like the Minnesota
34:08
Speaker 1: Governor Tim Waltz may have just discovered that there are
34:11
Speaker 1: two Minnesotas. We don't just rank near the top on
34:14
Speaker 1: educational attainment. We ranked near the top on personal incomes,
34:17
Speaker 1: on homeownership, on life expectancies. Things that make this and
34:21
Speaker 1: one that came out a while back. We ranked second
34:24
Speaker 1: in a survey of the fifty states, second in happiness,
34:28
Speaker 1: behind Hawaii. But if you take a deeper look and
34:30
Speaker 1: peel it back, which this week has peeled back, all
34:33
Speaker 1: of those statistics are true if you're white. If you're not,
34:36
Speaker 1: we ranked near the bottom. Nevertheless, Minnesota's governor has called
34:39
Speaker 1: in thousands of National Guardsmen to try and control the
34:42
Speaker 1: violence over the weekend. Nationwide, there are protest curfews in Atlanta, Chicago,
34:46
Speaker 1: Los Angeles, San Francisco, in Seattle. The Guard has been
34:48
Speaker 1: activated in fifteen states. He Associated Press says some forty
34:52
Speaker 1: four hundred arrests have been made in total. However, thousands
34:55
Speaker 1: more demonstrated peacefully in places like Phoenix and Albuquerque. Protests
34:59
Speaker 1: said fire outside the White House. The now X Minnesota
35:03
Speaker 1: cop by the way, Derek Chauvin has a court appearance
35:05
Speaker 1: a week from today, and we'll know about that. WBLSH Well,
35:08
Speaker 1: we have a back to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
35:11
Speaker 1: You're listening show everybody has promised. My special guest is
35:17
Speaker 1: a noted politician. He's an attorney, a political correspondent for CNN.
35:22
Speaker 1: He's been on the front lines of all covering the
35:24
Speaker 1: widespread protests and riots, and so we invited them to
35:28
Speaker 1: joinding so he could share light. He's a he's an
35:31
Speaker 1: incredible orator when it comes to speaking about how we
35:34
Speaker 1: feel and what we thinking and really what's going on.
35:38
Speaker 1: So please welcome to the show. Our buddy mister Buccari
35:41
Speaker 1: sellers Well, Hello, Hello, welcome, Thank you, hey man, hey man, listen.
35:49
Speaker 1: First of all, I want to do something because I
35:50
Speaker 1: want to congratulate you on your brand new book. He's
35:52
Speaker 1: got a new book out everybody's called My Vanishing Country,
35:55
Speaker 1: a memoir, And I don't know if you could have
35:58
Speaker 1: written this at a at a better time because it
36:02
Speaker 1: speaks on a black man's journey through the South, past,
36:07
Speaker 1: present and future. Tell us about the book, Pocard, Well,
36:11
Speaker 1: first of all, thank you for having me. And when
36:12
Speaker 1: you write a book, you never expect or want your
36:15
Speaker 1: book to come out during a pandemic, to say the least.
36:18
Speaker 1: But in this book, I just talk about outline the
36:21
Speaker 1: pain and trauma of what it means to be black
36:24
Speaker 1: in this country. I was born into a family out
36:27
Speaker 1: of struggle. My father was shot February eight in nineteen
36:30
Speaker 1: sixty eight by law enforcement and what's known as the
36:33
Speaker 1: Orangeburg massacre, and three other young men would kill Henry Smith,
36:36
Speaker 1: Samuel Hammond, and dellan O. Middleton on the campus of
36:40
Speaker 1: South Carolina State University in HBCU, and I chronicle that
36:43
Speaker 1: all the way through the you know, the pain and
36:46
Speaker 1: trauma that most people don't even imagine a father going
36:49
Speaker 1: to prison, you know, getting out of prison and having
36:52
Speaker 1: a felony. My mom gave birth to my big sister
36:55
Speaker 1: while my father was actually still incarcerated. So all of
36:59
Speaker 1: that trauma book end with the fact that I lost
37:02
Speaker 1: my good friend Um in twenty fifteen, Clemente Pinkney, who
37:07
Speaker 1: was the pastor of Mother Emmanuel Ammi Church, Um, when
37:10
Speaker 1: Dylan Ruth walked in and shot him in the neck
37:12
Speaker 1: while they were praying U after Bible study and killed
37:16
Speaker 1: eight others and what's called the Charleston massacre. And so
37:18
Speaker 1: I just talk about this pain, Um, and this trauma,
37:22
Speaker 1: And although Matt trauma may not be your trauma, I
37:25
Speaker 1: try to talk about the perseverance and hope that's required
37:29
Speaker 1: and necessary to be a person of color, to be
37:31
Speaker 1: to be black in this country, and systemic racism and
37:34
Speaker 1: systemic injustice that we see playing out right before our eyes.
37:37
Speaker 1: For that, Yeah, I think I think too, Man. When
37:40
Speaker 1: your book comes out at a time like this, I
37:43
Speaker 1: can I think it's kind of specially placed because this
37:47
Speaker 1: is a good time for it. I miss a lot
37:48
Speaker 1: of people still at home. I know I'm still practicing
37:52
Speaker 1: social distancing, and you know, I mean the TV business
37:55
Speaker 1: Hollywood is closed, so that that that type of work
37:58
Speaker 1: for me is often. You know, we all do our
38:00
Speaker 1: radio shows from my homes now because of technology. The
38:04
Speaker 1: book everybody's called My Vanishing Country. It's a memoir, and
38:08
Speaker 1: we're talking to such a compelling time for this book
38:11
Speaker 1: to come out and what Bacar is telling us about.
38:14
Speaker 1: So I want everybody in the Steve Harvey Nation, let's
38:17
Speaker 1: go out and get a copy of this book. Man,
38:19
Speaker 1: you can download it too, but it's called My Vanishing Country,
38:22
Speaker 1: a memoir. When we come back, we're going to talk
38:25
Speaker 1: with a Baccari about what's going on today in this
38:28
Speaker 1: country and how what his views on it, on all
38:31
Speaker 1: of it. So we'll be right back with our special guest,
38:33
Speaker 1: Baccari Sellers. You're listening, and everybody, we're back our special guests.
38:41
Speaker 1: This morning's Bakari Sellers. Now, I want to tell you
38:43
Speaker 1: all something. He's got a book out. Listen to me.
38:45
Speaker 1: It's called My Vanishing Country. It's a memoir, and he
38:48
Speaker 1: was telling us before the break. It's about a black
38:51
Speaker 1: man's journey through the South past and present, and it's
38:54
Speaker 1: sort of really telling because a lot of it is
38:58
Speaker 1: very fitting of what's been happening. You talked about his
39:00
Speaker 1: father was murdered in sixty eight and the other people
39:04
Speaker 1: are the friends he's lost along the way. And I
39:07
Speaker 1: think I don't know a black man in this country
39:10
Speaker 1: that don't have that story, because man, I've lost so
39:15
Speaker 1: many friends and relatives and along the way, and now
39:19
Speaker 1: we're here in this these deaths. So we got Bacari sellers,
39:24
Speaker 1: now Bacari with everything that's going on? Man? What what
39:28
Speaker 1: are you? What? What? What's your take on this? How
39:33
Speaker 1: are you seeing this play out? Yeah? You know, my father,
39:37
Speaker 1: my father was still with us. He just got shot
39:39
Speaker 1: at sixty eight. So I'm sorry he still left me
39:46
Speaker 1: borrow two hundred dollars every other um. But but you know,
39:52
Speaker 1: you brought up a good point, and I you know,
39:54
Speaker 1: racism is killing black people in this country in two ways.
39:57
Speaker 1: A systemic racism is killing black folk in this country
40:00
Speaker 1: two ways. First through COVID nineteen. And people want to say,
40:04
Speaker 1: why are black people dying at higher rates than their
40:07
Speaker 1: white counterparts? And the reason being is because we have
40:09
Speaker 1: these systemic injustices. Take the story that I tell in
40:12
Speaker 1: my Vanishing Country about where I'm from at Denmark, South Carolina.
40:16
Speaker 1: I grew up in a food desert, which means that
40:17
Speaker 1: you can't go two to three miles to get access
40:19
Speaker 1: to clean fruits or healthy fruits and vegetables. You're drinking
40:23
Speaker 1: dirty water, so you're more inclined to and take pollutants
40:27
Speaker 1: and things that are not good for your system. You're
40:31
Speaker 1: inhaling bad air because you're living next to a brown
40:34
Speaker 1: field or manufacturing plant. Your hospital's closed because you don't
40:38
Speaker 1: expand Medicaid, so you don't have access to quality care.
40:42
Speaker 1: And you take all of these systems and then you
40:44
Speaker 1: overlay it with the pandemic. You understand why, and you
40:48
Speaker 1: know this saying, my father says it all the time.
40:50
Speaker 1: When America gets a cold, black folk get the flu. Well,
40:54
Speaker 1: now America has COVID and black folk are dying. And
40:58
Speaker 1: so you look at those disparities and those injustices, and
41:01
Speaker 1: then you look at amd Opera, who got killed in
41:04
Speaker 1: a good old fashioned South Georgia father's son lynching. You
41:07
Speaker 1: look at Brianna Taylor. They served a no knock warrant
41:10
Speaker 1: and they killed her. They shot her, they shot at
41:14
Speaker 1: her over twenty times. And then you have George Floyd,
41:17
Speaker 1: who died with a knee to the neck for over
41:20
Speaker 1: nine minutes. And all of this has to do with
41:23
Speaker 1: one simple fact stead that for since since Emmett Till
41:27
Speaker 1: Mega Evers, Jimmy Lee Jackson beyond them, we have never
41:32
Speaker 1: received the benefit of our humanity in this country. You
41:36
Speaker 1: cannot tell me that that officer, that those officers they
41:38
Speaker 1: looked at George Floyd as anything but being less than human. Yeah.
41:44
Speaker 1: I made the mistake of saying that they killed him
41:47
Speaker 1: like a dog, and somebody corrected me because they said
41:49
Speaker 1: if he was a dog, all for those officers would
41:52
Speaker 1: have already been arrested already. Question a question. Hey, it's Carters,
41:58
Speaker 1: Jan Anthony Brown. I'm I'm calm me south going and
42:01
Speaker 1: I went to school in Denmark, Denmark Sage because dear tech,
42:05
Speaker 1: So my question to you is how much has demark
42:08
Speaker 1: changed from when you left? I know it it's probably
42:11
Speaker 1: changed a lot, sense when that level alone time of
42:13
Speaker 1: how much has it changed since you left? Well, I'm
42:17
Speaker 1: still really close. I'm just in Colombia. But I'll tell
42:20
Speaker 1: you this. The city that once was a bastion for
42:23
Speaker 1: economic mobility used to know my grandfather, Cleveland Fellers. He
42:26
Speaker 1: at the motel down there and the fifth going downtown
42:30
Speaker 1: and drove a cab. And you know, my family's been
42:33
Speaker 1: in Denmark for seventy five years. And you know what
42:37
Speaker 1: once used to have all like most of the most
42:39
Speaker 1: of the Black South, you had small businesses, you had
42:42
Speaker 1: one or two plants where people had those sixteen twenty
42:45
Speaker 1: dollars an hour jobs. All of those things are gone.
42:48
Speaker 1: And so what I knew to be my home to
42:50
Speaker 1: be where people could actually black folk could have a
42:53
Speaker 1: middle class lifestyle that's literally vanishing before our eyes, let
42:56
Speaker 1: alonely ideals that this country promised us and so our
43:00
Speaker 1: at the time for real solutions. You want people to
43:01
Speaker 1: get out the street. Don't tell us to just go vote,
43:04
Speaker 1: give us real solutions. We're tired of doing the same
43:07
Speaker 1: thing over and over again and still getting killed and
43:09
Speaker 1: becoming hashtags. Now I want to tell you all something.
43:12
Speaker 1: He's got a book out. It's called My Vanishing Country.
43:15
Speaker 1: It's a memoir. So we'll be right back with our
43:17
Speaker 1: special guest, Paccard Sellers. You're listening, and everybody, we're back.
43:24
Speaker 1: Our special guests this morning is Paccard Sellers, and he's
43:27
Speaker 1: got a book out. It's called My Vanishing Country. It's
43:30
Speaker 1: a memoir. It's about a black man's journey through the
43:33
Speaker 1: South past and President, listen to me. Here was the
43:36
Speaker 1: thing that I thought. I thought when social media came out,
43:41
Speaker 1: and I thought that once they saw what we knew
43:46
Speaker 1: was already happening, once they could see the video of
43:51
Speaker 1: Rodney King, of all this, of Eric Garden, of if
43:56
Speaker 1: they could see it, then they would get it, and
43:59
Speaker 1: and that was solving. I can't tell you how wrong
44:03
Speaker 1: I was right, because he's a proof. I'm only thirty
44:06
Speaker 1: five years old, right, and you know, I talk about
44:09
Speaker 1: the trauma I've lived through, so I can only imagine
44:12
Speaker 1: with more years in this world what that means. I
44:15
Speaker 1: look at my father, who's seventy five. I'm thirty five,
44:18
Speaker 1: and we had many of the same shared experiences. And
44:21
Speaker 1: I bring that up to you because they had We
44:23
Speaker 1: had the picture an Ebony magazine of Emmett Till. Emmett
44:28
Speaker 1: Till was brutally beaten and lynched and thrown in the
44:30
Speaker 1: bottom of the Mississippi River, and his face was beaten
44:34
Speaker 1: and he had no bones left in it. And his
44:37
Speaker 1: mother had the courage to allow the world to see
44:40
Speaker 1: what racism and bigotry had done to her son. They
44:43
Speaker 1: saw that and they didn't care. They saw what happened
44:45
Speaker 1: on the Edmund Pettis Bridge. I'm bloody Sunday, and nobody cared.
44:49
Speaker 1: And so right now I'm looking I am telling people
44:52
Speaker 1: that that if you are asking for peace without asking
44:56
Speaker 1: for justice, you just need to be quiet. Right now
44:59
Speaker 1: is a time. I'm not just for peace, but it's
45:01
Speaker 1: it's a time for justice to become a herb and
45:04
Speaker 1: people are ready to see action. Right And I'll tell
45:07
Speaker 1: you what's making this appear to be different from me?
45:10
Speaker 1: And because I started speaking out about it a couple
45:13
Speaker 1: of weeks ago, until whites become outraged, that's it won't change.
45:21
Speaker 1: And so this is what like on CNN last night,
45:26
Speaker 1: New York, they're protesting in New York, and I'm talking
45:29
Speaker 1: about you're you're talking the epicenter of this COVID nineteen
45:34
Speaker 1: and to see that many New York has come out there,
45:36
Speaker 1: most of young people, and ninety nine percent of them
45:39
Speaker 1: have on mask but they're out in the streets protesting.
45:44
Speaker 1: To see them in Atlanta protesting, to see him in
45:47
Speaker 1: Kansas City protesting. I mean, I'm looking at whites and
45:52
Speaker 1: it's starting to give me a little sense of hope
45:54
Speaker 1: here because now it's not just black people that you
45:57
Speaker 1: have to rest. You're gonna have to rest some other people.
46:00
Speaker 1: And then and the you know, New York Police Department
46:02
Speaker 1: moved out in large forces last night man to try
46:06
Speaker 1: to clear it. And these are all of these or
46:08
Speaker 1: they're having curfews and everything. But look, man, I'm like you,
46:12
Speaker 1: I get it. I get it. And you know, for
46:14
Speaker 1: reporters on there talking about what the looting makes no sense,
46:18
Speaker 1: I got it. Don't But let me explain something to you. If,
46:21
Speaker 1: as mar Luther King said that rioting is the language
46:24
Speaker 1: of the unheard, if if you're not listening, and I
46:30
Speaker 1: could thank this brick and throw it through this one,
46:32
Speaker 1: can you hear me? Now? Now for the looting, I
46:35
Speaker 1: don't agree with it because that's taking the process too far.
46:38
Speaker 1: And I want us to be very careful because they
46:41
Speaker 1: are looking for a way too. As I told one
46:43
Speaker 1: of the callers today, they're looking for a way to
46:46
Speaker 1: change the narrative, and especially with this president we have,
46:50
Speaker 1: so we've got to be careful because he got his
46:52
Speaker 1: finger on the National Guard button because he wants to
46:54
Speaker 1: peer like he's doing something as the president, and instead
46:57
Speaker 1: of making sure that justice is he got his button
47:01
Speaker 1: on to send in the arm national army right now,
47:04
Speaker 1: and so we got to be careful. True indeed, and
47:07
Speaker 1: you know, one of the things that I say, just
47:09
Speaker 1: to piggyback on what you what you're talking about, people
47:12
Speaker 1: are looking for someone to channel that energy and where
47:16
Speaker 1: the channel that energy. And so when I'm talking about
47:19
Speaker 1: making justice a verb, I'm talking about doing things like
47:22
Speaker 1: lowering the federal standard to bring civil rights cases against
47:26
Speaker 1: these bad officers, criminal cases against these bad office right.
47:29
Speaker 1: I'm talking about making sure that we limit qualified immunities
47:32
Speaker 1: so they can't hide behind that shield when we soothe them.
47:35
Speaker 1: And think about this, think about this piece. You know,
47:39
Speaker 1: George Floyd paid for the law enforcement police department they
47:43
Speaker 1: killed him because the Department of Justice, our federal tax
47:47
Speaker 1: dollars goes to these police departments, and they don't have
47:50
Speaker 1: to have they don't have to have any accountability, they
47:53
Speaker 1: don't have to have any transparency, they don't have to
47:56
Speaker 1: have any oversight. And so if we're going to pay
47:59
Speaker 1: for these police departments, they have to have those things.
48:02
Speaker 1: Because George Floyd, Brianna Taylor, they literally paid for moneys
48:07
Speaker 1: to go to the police departments that killed them without
48:09
Speaker 1: any oversight. So these are some of the tangible things
48:12
Speaker 1: that I want people to offer. I'm tired of Democrats
48:15
Speaker 1: and Republicans telling me to just go home and vote
48:19
Speaker 1: wait till November. No, I want something now, because in November,
48:22
Speaker 1: at the rate we're going, that's at least ten more
48:25
Speaker 1: black folks they don't kill WHOA. Yeah, he's keeping it
48:30
Speaker 1: all the way, all the way. That's the interview and
48:36
Speaker 1: scene dropped the mic. Right, Hey, listen, man, I gotta
48:41
Speaker 1: tell you listen to everybody. His book out is called
48:44
Speaker 1: My Vanishing Country, and what a great title, and you
48:48
Speaker 1: just didn't know it was gonna drop at this particular time,
48:52
Speaker 1: but it is, man, My Vanishing Country. I mean, you
48:56
Speaker 1: would think that that that we will be saying a
48:59
Speaker 1: way with this and we're getting better and better, but
49:01
Speaker 1: it seems like it's taking a turn for the worst.
49:04
Speaker 1: And I think the book is a great read. It's
49:06
Speaker 1: called My Vanishing Country. It's it's a memoir. Excuse me,
49:10
Speaker 1: My Vanishing Country a memoir, and I think it'd be
49:13
Speaker 1: great reading. Is something we can all pick up on.
49:15
Speaker 1: In Baccari. Thank you for always being out front brother
49:18
Speaker 1: speaking on our behalf so eloquently. Thank you, brother, and
49:21
Speaker 1: as a young brother, you didn't have to give me
49:23
Speaker 1: this platform and lift my book up. I think it's timely.
49:27
Speaker 1: I'm just really grateful for you always being there for
49:29
Speaker 1: us and giving us an opportunity. So thank you, man.
49:31
Speaker 1: Hey man, I'm with you. Thank you, Bacar Sellers, everybody. Yeah,
49:37
Speaker 1: you know what Baccari is saying is is pretty much
49:40
Speaker 1: spot on. You know, he's such a great speaker when
49:44
Speaker 1: it comes to speaking about the concerns of us, and
49:50
Speaker 1: you know, this is just a trying time for all
49:52
Speaker 1: of us. I was thinking the other day, here's a deal.
49:55
Speaker 1: I was just going over some stuff that just black
49:58
Speaker 1: people have had deal with. And all this began was slavery. Yes,
50:04
Speaker 1: I mean slavery lasted for four hundred years. Okay, then
50:10
Speaker 1: you ended. Then we had the recession. We was in
50:13
Speaker 1: that with everybody too, you know. Then recession, then we
50:17
Speaker 1: had to deal with segregation. Segregation, we dealt with all
50:21
Speaker 1: of that. Then we dealt with what they called integration,
50:24
Speaker 1: but nobody wanted to integrate, so we dealt with that.
50:28
Speaker 1: Then we dealt with the civil rights movement. Then we
50:31
Speaker 1: dealt with nobody could ride on the front of the
50:35
Speaker 1: bus that you had to go to the back of
50:37
Speaker 1: the restaurant. Then we had city Ins, we had lunch Counter, Cityens.
50:42
Speaker 1: Then we had Bull Connor down in Alabama and Georgia,
50:46
Speaker 1: George Wallace. We went through all of that. Then we
50:49
Speaker 1: went through the March on Washington, and we did all
50:53
Speaker 1: of that, and then we watched them killed Marta Luther
50:56
Speaker 1: King who and I lost all hope at that point
50:59
Speaker 1: because I said, why, here's a man who was just
51:01
Speaker 1: making us try to hold each other's hands. They don't
51:04
Speaker 1: want to hold our hands, so they killed them out violence.
51:07
Speaker 1: So I lost all of that. We had to go
51:10
Speaker 1: through that. Then we went through Affirmative Action, and then
51:14
Speaker 1: the next thing, you know, through I'm tired. We were
51:18
Speaker 1: dealing with trying to get through all of that, and
51:23
Speaker 1: then let's just speed forward and here we come. Now
51:27
Speaker 1: the whole world is dealing with COVID nineteen. Yeah, but
51:31
Speaker 1: then the whole time before the COVID nineteen were just
51:36
Speaker 1: dealing with the Eric Gardeners and the and the Trayvon Martins,
51:40
Speaker 1: and I got a whole list of names, and then
51:44
Speaker 1: Aubrey had just happened in February, but we got to
51:47
Speaker 1: tape later and then right after that, this man, George Floyd.
51:53
Speaker 1: All of this is in the middle of the pandemic
51:56
Speaker 1: against get it. That's the that's the weird. But they
52:00
Speaker 1: don't get it. I think they get it. They just don't.
52:04
Speaker 1: They just don't get it. What you so angry? Why
52:08
Speaker 1: are you so mad? What? Yeah? And did you know
52:12
Speaker 1: did you know that this this police officer that was
52:15
Speaker 1: kneeling on this man, They said a couple of days
52:18
Speaker 1: ago they actually had work together in an establishment. Yeah,
52:23
Speaker 1: the security the owner of the club was on TV
52:26
Speaker 1: and she was saying that they were knew each other. Yeah,
52:29
Speaker 1: they knew each other, not because they worked at the
52:31
Speaker 1: same club. Man. All right, all right, we're going to
52:34
Speaker 1: take a break here. We need a break. Everybody needs
52:36
Speaker 1: a break. We'll be right back with more of the
52:38
Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Morning Show right after this. You're listening to
52:43

52:52
Speaker 1: Please submit your Strawberry Letter to Steve Harvey FM and
52:55

53:00

53:02
Speaker 1: one here that jay right here, right now. Yeah, buggle up,
53:08
Speaker 1: hold on tight, we got it for you. Here it is.
53:10
Speaker 1: It's a strawberry letter subject the two women that I
53:15
Speaker 1: love the most, Dear Stephen Shirley. I'm a thirty seven
53:19
Speaker 1: year old man and I'm in love with a perfect woman,
53:22
Speaker 1: and I want to marry her. I am financially secure
53:25
Speaker 1: and I love taking care of my family. I bought
53:28
Speaker 1: a new home five years ago, and I made sure
53:31
Speaker 1: I had a separate space for my mother to live comfortably.
53:35
Speaker 1: She has her own entrance from the garage, so she's
53:38
Speaker 1: still independent. She does most of the cooking, and I
53:42
Speaker 1: am happy to have her with me. My mother and
53:44
Speaker 1: my girlfriend get along well, and if my mom is cooking,
53:48
Speaker 1: my girlfriend will help her out in the kitchen. My
53:51
Speaker 1: girlfriend always jokes about it being my mom's kitchen, and
53:54
Speaker 1: I told her that once we're married, it will be
53:57
Speaker 1: her kitchen and my mom will understand. Well. My girlfriend
54:01
Speaker 1: threw me for a loop and said that if we
54:02
Speaker 1: got married, she wouldn't have to worry about fighting over
54:06
Speaker 1: a kitchen because my mom wouldn't be living with us.
54:09
Speaker 1: This may be the first time. My girlfriend and I
54:12
Speaker 1: had a terrible argument. I'm not a mama's boy, but
54:15
Speaker 1: I feel a sense of pride in making sure my
54:17
Speaker 1: mom is well taken care of. My girlfriend flat out
54:20
Speaker 1: said that she will not live with my mama in
54:23
Speaker 1: her house. She told me that I might as well
54:26
Speaker 1: not propose if I don't plan to move into a
54:28
Speaker 1: new home with her or move my mother to another house.
54:32
Speaker 1: It's not a financial thing, because my girlfriend makes great
54:35
Speaker 1: money and she's independent. She told me she'd rather stay
54:38
Speaker 1: single than move in with me and my mama. I'm
54:41
Speaker 1: not sure why I didn't ask this earlier in our relationship,
54:45
Speaker 1: because it's a deal breaker for both of us. I
54:47
Speaker 1: can't win in this situation. How do I please the
54:50
Speaker 1: love of my life and the woman that gave me life? Mama? Okay,
54:56
Speaker 1: all right, listen. I know you love your mom, know what.
55:00
Speaker 1: We all love our mothers, we really do. But the
55:03
Speaker 1: question is do we want to live with our spouses
55:08
Speaker 1: and our moms all in the same house. That's the question.
55:13
Speaker 1: And I got to tell you the answer to that
55:15
Speaker 1: is no. And your girlfriend is right in this one.
55:18
Speaker 1: She wants a home of her own, and why shouldn't
55:21
Speaker 1: she because you know what, she's never going to feel
55:26
Speaker 1: like it's her house. She's never going to feel that
55:29
Speaker 1: she's the woman of the house. As long as your
55:31
Speaker 1: mom is in the house, in that kitchen cooking, okay,
55:35
Speaker 1: and then she's in there helping, she's never going to
55:38
Speaker 1: feel that way. Never. I'm sorry, but that's the situation.
55:43
Speaker 1: Even the Lord knows that. Okay, even the Lord knows that,
55:47
Speaker 1: and you know, the Lord knows everything. The Bible says
55:50
Speaker 1: that a man should leave his father and his mother
55:53
Speaker 1: and cleave to his wife, and they become one flesh. Okay,
55:56
Speaker 1: leave and cleave. I'm sure you've heard that. You know.
56:00
Speaker 1: You can look it up if you want. It's in Genesis,
56:03
Speaker 1: so you can look it up if you want. I
56:05
Speaker 1: think two twenty four or something. So you mentioned a
56:08
Speaker 1: couple of times about your financially set you and your girlfriend.
56:12
Speaker 1: You're in a good place. You're in a good financial space. So,
56:15
Speaker 1: like you said, like your girlfriend mentioned to you, if
56:19
Speaker 1: you can, why don't you let your mom have this house?
56:22
Speaker 1: You and your girlfriend, you know, can buy another house,
56:26
Speaker 1: set your mom up in a condo close by or
56:28
Speaker 1: something if you want to be you know, close to
56:31
Speaker 1: your mom if you love her that much, and that's okay,
56:34
Speaker 1: that's okay, But two women in the same house trying
56:37
Speaker 1: to cook in the same kitchen once you're married, it's
56:40
Speaker 1: not gonna work. And she's absolutely right. I know you
56:43
Speaker 1: say you're not a mama's boy, but you're gonna have
56:46
Speaker 1: to put your wife first. If she decides to go
56:50
Speaker 1: ahead and marry you now after all this, she may
56:53
Speaker 1: change her mind. She's already told you don't even worry
56:56
Speaker 1: about proposing. She'd rather stay single. If you're going to
56:59
Speaker 1: bring your mom a so you got a lot to
57:01
Speaker 1: think about there if you want the woman. Um, you
57:05
Speaker 1: can't let your mom stay there and live there in
57:07
Speaker 1: the house with you. Steve Man, anybody got no time
57:11
Speaker 1: for this damn letter here? Wrong with you? Man? What
57:17
Speaker 1: the hell is wrong with you? Are you nuts? When
57:22
Speaker 1: you when you type the letter, you ain't read it back?
57:25
Speaker 1: You don't it? Don't see nothing wrong in here, because
57:28
Speaker 1: it's wrong. I love taking care of my family. I'm
57:31
Speaker 1: financially secure. Once you say you financially secure, then money
57:36
Speaker 1: answer with all things you can supply an answer. Money
57:41
Speaker 1: don't make you happy. Money ain't the answer to everything,
57:45
Speaker 1: but it gives you at least a response. So you
57:49
Speaker 1: say you're financially secure, so now you can respond to
57:54
Speaker 1: a situation. And now you have it. I bought a
57:58
Speaker 1: new home five years ago, and I made sure that
58:00
Speaker 1: I had a separate space from my mother to live comfortably.
58:04
Speaker 1: She got her own interest from the garage. What the
58:09
Speaker 1: hell do that mean? Man? No, no, no, helped me?
58:16
Speaker 1: No wait wait wait wait, helped me. I hadn't had
58:22
Speaker 1: a few cribs. What in your house? Did you give
58:27
Speaker 1: your mama a separate space she can get to from
58:32
Speaker 1: the garage, but ain't but one damn kitchen right, she
58:38
Speaker 1: got o own space. She all over there where your girlfriend?
58:42
Speaker 1: And that that's what this whole damn letter. So she
58:45
Speaker 1: can be comfortable. She got her own interest from the garage,
58:48
Speaker 1: so she's still independent and you still code dependent. She
58:54
Speaker 1: does most of the cooking, and I'm happy to have
58:57
Speaker 1: her with me. Well, dog, when this gonna end? When
59:04
Speaker 1: didn't you think you ain't gonna have your mama witch you,
59:07
Speaker 1: cooking for you, cleaning for you? What? What? Why don't
59:11
Speaker 1: she feed you? I'm so mad at this. Let him,
59:15
Speaker 1: my mother and girlfriend get along. Well, if if my
59:18
Speaker 1: mom is cooking my girlfriend. I'm underlying how many times
59:21
Speaker 1: you call it? Help? Right back? All right, we'll have
59:25
Speaker 1: part two of Steve's response coming up in twenty three
59:27
Speaker 1: minutes after the hour. Today's Strawberry letter subject the two
59:31
Speaker 1: women that I Love the most. We'll be right back
59:34
Speaker 1: after this. You're listening show, all right, Steve, Come on,
59:40
Speaker 1: let's recap today's Strawberry letter, The two women that I
59:44
Speaker 1: love the most. Thirty seven year old man and done
59:46
Speaker 1: this stupid ass thing. He bought this house. He financially
59:49
Speaker 1: just secure. Right, He bought this house five years ago
59:52
Speaker 1: and made sure he had a separate space for his
59:55
Speaker 1: mother to live comfortably. She has her own interest from
59:58
Speaker 1: the garage, so she's still in the opinion, and she
1:00:01
Speaker 1: does most of the cooking, and I'm happy to have
1:00:03
Speaker 1: her with me. Well, the problem is you went on
1:00:05
Speaker 1: and got somebody sleep with. See that's what you did.
1:00:08
Speaker 1: You wouldn't got a girlfriend. My mother and girlfriend get
1:00:12
Speaker 1: along really well. And if my mom is cooking, my
1:00:15
Speaker 1: girlfriend will help out in the kitchen. Oh, I bet
1:00:17
Speaker 1: you just be happy then now, just happy as hell.
1:00:22
Speaker 1: But I'm gonna show you so. Uh, this is when
1:00:26
Speaker 1: you first started calling her your girlfriend, my mom is cooking,
1:00:29
Speaker 1: my girlfriend will help out in the kitchen. My girlfriend
1:00:35
Speaker 1: always jokes about it being my mom's kitchen, and I
1:00:38
Speaker 1: told her that once we're married, it'll be her kitchen
1:00:42
Speaker 1: and my mom will understand. Well, my girlfriend threw me
1:00:47
Speaker 1: for a loop and said that if we got married,
1:00:49
Speaker 1: oh see right here, right here, See, I want you
1:00:51
Speaker 1: to know what I'm saying. Not a lot of change.
1:00:53
Speaker 1: Your partner, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, Well, I told her
1:01:00
Speaker 1: it'll be her kitchen and mom, once we get married,
1:01:03
Speaker 1: it'll be her kitchen, and my mom will understand. Your
1:01:06
Speaker 1: mom felt understand what she's been cooking. She'd been cooking
1:01:11
Speaker 1: for you for thirty seven years. You think she's just
1:01:14
Speaker 1: gonna stepside and let this little girl come in here
1:01:16
Speaker 1: and start. She don't know what she's doing. She don't
1:01:20
Speaker 1: know how to make nothing. That ain't how I make
1:01:22
Speaker 1: my dressing. You call a rose sweet, and he don't
1:01:28
Speaker 1: like his ass turned over that many times? See anybody
1:01:32
Speaker 1: feel to go through that? Well, when we getting married,
1:01:34
Speaker 1: be her kitchen and my mom understand. Here we go. Well,
1:01:38
Speaker 1: my girlfriend threw me for a loop and said that
1:01:40
Speaker 1: if we got married, here we go. Let a changing y'all,
1:01:43
Speaker 1: she wouldn't have to worry about fighting over kitchen because
1:01:46
Speaker 1: your mom won't be living with us. Didn't not that.
1:01:51
Speaker 1: This is where he tried to jump back to. This
1:01:53
Speaker 1: may be the first time my girlfriend and I had
1:01:57
Speaker 1: a terrible argument. I'm not a mama's boy. Oh, yes
1:02:00
Speaker 1: she is. Now he Now we're talking about what the
1:02:03
Speaker 1: letter is about. Now you're saying I'm not a mama's boy.
1:02:08
Speaker 1: But everything in this letter says mama's boy. It just
1:02:13
Speaker 1: says it. Dog. I'm sorry. I hate to tell you that,
1:02:16
Speaker 1: and I bet your girlfriend probably brought it up. She's
1:02:19
Speaker 1: been dealing with it because she just your girlfriend. But
1:02:23
Speaker 1: once she take on the Tyler wife, she ain't been
1:02:27
Speaker 1: to split the kitchen with your mama because Simon, I
1:02:29
Speaker 1: would tell you something. Man, you probably don't even know
1:02:32
Speaker 1: she's been having your mama and that kitchen. She was
1:02:34
Speaker 1: like anything your mama cook probably gonna tell you that,
1:02:40
Speaker 1: gonna let you in on a little show, and she
1:02:43
Speaker 1: can't wait to get in there so she can have
1:02:44
Speaker 1: what she want to have for dinner and ask her
1:02:47
Speaker 1: husband what he wants and fix her dinner for day family,
1:02:50
Speaker 1: and maybe you come in there and make something for
1:02:52
Speaker 1: your wife sometime. This ain't your mama kitchen. Now you're
1:02:55
Speaker 1: mad now? And then your girlfriend flat out said she
1:03:00
Speaker 1: or not live with my mama in her house. Oh oh,
1:03:04
Speaker 1: see this house you bought five years ago when you
1:03:07
Speaker 1: signed that document, that marriage license. That ain't just your house. No,
1:03:13
Speaker 1: who preaches, that's y'all's house. And I got more news
1:03:19
Speaker 1: for you. Whatever you think is y'all's house when you
1:03:24
Speaker 1: go to court, it's called her house. Who lost five
1:03:32
Speaker 1: My stupid hass thinking I has came right along and said,
1:03:38
Speaker 1: your black ass ain't got I'm letting him know now.
1:03:47
Speaker 1: Damn food. She told me, I might as well not
1:03:49
Speaker 1: proposed if I don't plan to move into a new
1:03:51
Speaker 1: home with her or move my mother to another house. Period.
1:03:55
Speaker 1: That makes sense. You can't let me ask something. Dog?
1:03:58
Speaker 1: You thirty seven? You watch TV all the time? You
1:04:00
Speaker 1: Netflix for when they in the castle? Have you ever
1:04:03
Speaker 1: seen more than one queen? Uh? Now, King I have
1:04:09
Speaker 1: some slaves that he's doing downstairs in the dungeon god
1:04:13
Speaker 1: and in the spa area. He gonna have some extra chicks.
1:04:16
Speaker 1: But it's only one queen. They got a spa area. Yeah,
1:04:21
Speaker 1: in the Roman empire. Your wife doesn't have to share
1:04:30
Speaker 1: the kitchen with your mother, because your wife wants her
1:04:33
Speaker 1: own kitchen. She's not marrying you for your mother. She
1:04:37
Speaker 1: was marrying you for you, and you should marry her
1:04:40
Speaker 1: for her. You can't have your mom in your house.
1:04:42
Speaker 1: Ain't nothing wrong with your mama. She driving to the garage,
1:04:45
Speaker 1: she got a car, drive somewhere else. You'd have made
1:04:49
Speaker 1: all these separate ass entrances. Get her whole separate house.
1:04:54
Speaker 1: You financially secure. Your girlfriend got money, Get her nice
1:04:58
Speaker 1: little u is he living space? Get around some old
1:05:03
Speaker 1: ass people. She did, get a lot of friends, because
1:05:05
Speaker 1: most old people don't have calls. Your mama want the
1:05:08
Speaker 1: old old people with a call. Crazy. I'm not sure
1:05:14
Speaker 1: if I didn't ask this early in that relationship, because
1:05:17
Speaker 1: this is a deal break up for both of us. Well, brother,
1:05:19
Speaker 1: deal broke then? Yeah, Now I guess what you're gonna have?
1:05:23
Speaker 1: What you always had your mama, and you ain't Finn
1:05:27
Speaker 1: had a woman of your dream. I don't blame anybody
1:05:30
Speaker 1: moving in with you and your damn mama. Dog. Ain't
1:05:32
Speaker 1: nobody fit to do that. Thank you? Coming up post
1:05:39
Speaker 1: your comments on today's Strawberry Letters, Steve Harvey Felm on
1:05:41
Speaker 1: Instagram and Facebook. Coming up and make the best chili show.
1:05:46
Speaker 1: Damn family Chili. Don't forget to listen to the Strawberry
1:05:50
Speaker 1: Letter podcast on demand coming up in forty six minutes.
1:05:53
Speaker 1: After the hour, we're going to switch gears and talk
1:05:55
Speaker 1: to the people at eight seven seven twenty nine. Steve,
1:05:59
Speaker 1: you're right, y'all, we're going to the phones again. And uh,
1:06:05
Speaker 1: this is a long time family member. We've all known
1:06:09
Speaker 1: this man from probably all the years of the Hoodie
1:06:13
Speaker 1: Awards and Neighborhoods Awards. I guess that's what it's from.
1:06:17
Speaker 1: He just been around us so long. He's a business
1:06:21
Speaker 1: owner in uh is it Philly or Yeah, he's a
1:06:24
Speaker 1: business owner in Philly. Let's get him on the phone.
1:06:27
Speaker 1: We just call him Frank to Barber, so we don't
1:06:30
Speaker 1: know nothing else. Frank, what's up? Man? Hello, how y'all doing?
1:06:35
Speaker 1: How's everybody good? Good? Good? Hey? Frank Knight. You're you're
1:06:41
Speaker 1: Barbara in Philadelphia? Yes I am. How long have you
1:06:44
Speaker 1: been in business? Man? Um, me and my wife just
1:06:47
Speaker 1: opened our business in September. So this pandemic, I said,
1:06:51
Speaker 1: as hard because we had to close and We've been
1:06:53
Speaker 1: clothes for about tventy eight days. Wow, So talk us
1:06:58
Speaker 1: a little bit through about what's been happening in terms
1:07:02
Speaker 1: of the business up there. For you guys, we are
1:07:07
Speaker 1: non essential, so we did have to close. We are
1:07:11
Speaker 1: a person to person contacts, so we cannot take any clients.
1:07:17
Speaker 1: We cannot have anybody coming to the shop, so we
1:07:19
Speaker 1: had to close down. We have to just live by
1:07:24
Speaker 1: any means necessary. My wife she is able to work
1:07:30
Speaker 1: from home, and we have to reach out for financial
1:07:34
Speaker 1: aids from the states, from the city to keep going. Wow,
1:07:39
Speaker 1: this is Carlo. We talked and you were telling me
1:07:41
Speaker 1: about we saw good. How are you how you saw
1:07:43
Speaker 1: everything on the rioting and everything that was happening in Philly?
1:07:47
Speaker 1: Can you tell us about that. The rioting is a
1:07:52
Speaker 1: halftermath of the peaceful protest that started on Saturday. Saturday
1:07:58
Speaker 1: midday was peaceful protests and everything was you know for
1:08:04
Speaker 1: George Floyd, and it's escalated to the violence and looting
1:08:10
Speaker 1: that that is occurring right now. Yeah, you know, it
1:08:13
Speaker 1: seems like see for the people who don't understand the rioting,
1:08:19
Speaker 1: which it's not a good thing, but you have to
1:08:22
Speaker 1: put it into perspective. And understand, as Martin Luther King
1:08:26
Speaker 1: once said, rioting is the language of the unheard. And
1:08:31
Speaker 1: when people are trying to get your attention and you're
1:08:33
Speaker 1: not listening to them, and they're trying to obey your
1:08:36
Speaker 1: laws and you're not listening to them, this is this
1:08:41
Speaker 1: can be the end result. Do you hear me? Now? Yeah?
1:08:45
Speaker 1: And also the frustration of the COVID nineteen and a
1:08:48
Speaker 1: lot of people losing their jobs, a lot of people
1:08:51
Speaker 1: not having an income, a lot of people not receiving
1:08:54
Speaker 1: unemployment and the loans and all the grants and everything
1:08:58
Speaker 1: that was promised to as minority. So we had a
1:09:02
Speaker 1: voice with election and we have to get out of vote.
1:09:06
Speaker 1: Thank you, Frank, Yeah, all right, all right, Frank, thank
1:09:09
Speaker 1: you man, appreciate you, thank you. All yeah, God bless you.
1:09:13
Speaker 1: All Right, we'll have more of the Steve Harvey Morning
1:09:15
Speaker 1: Show right after this. You're listening to show. All right, Hey,
1:09:22
Speaker 1: let's go to the phone. I have a young business owner,
1:09:26
Speaker 1: really young business owner. We'll find out if she wants
1:09:28
Speaker 1: to say how old she is and what type of
1:09:30
Speaker 1: business she has, and we're talking to her. This is
1:09:33
Speaker 1: Steve Harvey. Hey, how are you? What's your name? Sister
1:09:38
Speaker 1: and my business partner. Oh, Nikki high Tower, I used
1:09:44
Speaker 1: that name on TV for years. I was Steve Steve Tower,
1:09:49
Speaker 1: I owned a video store, and Steve Hottower I was
1:09:52
Speaker 1: the high Hops. And now this is my niece. This
1:09:57
Speaker 1: is my niece Nicky. So, Nikki, what city do you
1:10:02
Speaker 1: live in? We live in Atlanta, Georgia. What type of
1:10:06
Speaker 1: business do you own? We own a luxury consignment shop
1:10:09
Speaker 1: at the Shops A podcast. First of all, let's talk
1:10:12
Speaker 1: about the COVID nineteen aspect. I'm assuming that that touched
1:10:17
Speaker 1: and affected your business. Yes, we shut down March eleventh,
1:10:23
Speaker 1: and we just reopened fighting for the How has business
1:10:27
Speaker 1: been since since you reopened? Sans really alsome? Business has
1:10:31
Speaker 1: been study? I can't say business. What's kind of study online?
1:10:35
Speaker 1: But when we reopened, people were so happy just to
1:10:38
Speaker 1: like come in a store. Even though we had like
1:10:40
Speaker 1: restrict shary thing, you know, we couldn't have too many
1:10:44
Speaker 1: people in the store. People were just happy to be out.
1:10:46
Speaker 1: So they were taking in supporting. Note, Now, what what
1:10:50
Speaker 1: about now doing these times? Because because I know Atlanta,
1:10:53
Speaker 1: like many cities across the country, are the protest and
1:10:58
Speaker 1: protests is fine, But I'm over. It has turned into
1:11:01
Speaker 1: some looting. Have you all been affected by that at all? Yes,
1:11:04
Speaker 1: we are affected. Friday night, we were receiving phone calls
1:11:09
Speaker 1: some friends. We were like this store friends walking into
1:11:12
Speaker 1: and I lived right in the area, so me and
1:11:15
Speaker 1: my business partner we ran downstairs and we literally witnessed
1:11:18
Speaker 1: the guys running out with the shoes and handbags. And
1:11:22
Speaker 1: when we finally walked up to the store as bathing
1:11:26
Speaker 1: was gone literally down to our computer, our iPad, I cellphone, everything,
1:11:32
Speaker 1: and just heartbreaking to see that. Being that we just
1:11:35
Speaker 1: got over a situation like this back in November twenty
1:11:38
Speaker 1: eighteen and Miami Circle was made, us moved to shots
1:11:42
Speaker 1: the bus head being going would be a little bit
1:11:44
Speaker 1: more protected and safe. Oh you were explain to me
1:11:49
Speaker 1: what you were saying. You were in another city or
1:11:51
Speaker 1: another area, no Miami Circle like on Limberg. Okay, yeah,
1:11:56
Speaker 1: we were in that area and we were hit for
1:11:59
Speaker 1: seventy six thousand back in November twenty eighteen, and we
1:12:03
Speaker 1: just recovered from that. We're finally flowing and getting back
1:12:07
Speaker 1: on our feet to just get hit again and now
1:12:10
Speaker 1: we're at we were literally less with like four pair
1:12:13
Speaker 1: of shoes and one handbag. Wow. Yeah, because I understand
1:12:20
Speaker 1: the pain and the frustration everyone is going through. But
1:12:24
Speaker 1: we're all together in this, like we I stand for
1:12:28
Speaker 1: everything that's going on. When I saw that video of
1:12:31
Speaker 1: George Floyd, like Snith and I were heartbroken just to
1:12:35
Speaker 1: see that our store had to take that hit. We
1:12:38
Speaker 1: get it, like we know our store can be replaced,
1:12:41
Speaker 1: but it's just still painful for us as business owners
1:12:44
Speaker 1: that we have to rebuild again see to what the
1:12:46
Speaker 1: police are doing. Let me let me say this protests
1:12:51
Speaker 1: is fair, protests, it's okay, but when it gets into
1:12:56
Speaker 1: the level that it has gotten to in a lot
1:12:58
Speaker 1: of places, and business owners are affected by it who
1:13:03
Speaker 1: have nothing to do with the injustices of our judicial system,
1:13:08
Speaker 1: the injustices of the police relationships that are in a
1:13:13
Speaker 1: lot of these cities, of some of the police officers
1:13:16
Speaker 1: behavior towards us. These businesses have nothing to do with it,
1:13:21
Speaker 1: and so innocent people have to suffer for something that
1:13:26
Speaker 1: they're really not a part of it. There were very
1:13:29
Speaker 1: much victims of all this themselves, and so that's why
1:13:32
Speaker 1: we're trying to say, look, protests, but protests peacefully. Even
1:13:37
Speaker 1: George Lloyd's brother is saying to protest, but do it peacefully.
1:13:44
Speaker 1: You know, as difficult as it is, we learn from
1:13:47
Speaker 1: moments like this and we become stronger some kind of way,
1:13:51
Speaker 1: and so just keep it up, never give up. Okay, y,
1:13:55
Speaker 1: we encouragement. Thank you so much. We'll have more of
1:14:01

Speaker 1: was this gospel music. It was a healing and at
1:15:32

1:16:03
Speaker 1: for justice for his brother and friend. However, he has
1:16:06
Speaker 1: a message for everyone protesting against police brutality to stay woke.
1:16:10
Speaker 1: Take a listen to this, hey man. I just wanted
1:16:13
Speaker 1: to touch him right now to tell y'all man, the
1:16:15
Speaker 1: support has been crazy man from my brother all around
1:16:18
Speaker 1: the world. Everybody's been standing for my brother, man, and
1:16:21
Speaker 1: I definitely appreciate it, and I love y'all. I really
1:16:25
Speaker 1: appreciate it. Man. We're definitely gonna get justice from my brother,
1:16:28
Speaker 1: and it's definitely because of all the love y'all have
1:16:31
Speaker 1: been showing him. It means the world. But let's not
1:16:35
Speaker 1: lose what we've done. They're trying to play off our pain.
1:16:39
Speaker 1: So I want y'all to be smart out there. Okay,
1:16:42
Speaker 1: they're trying to play off our pain. They're sending people
1:16:44
Speaker 1: out to burn builders down and putting bricks in the
1:16:47
Speaker 1: middle of downtown, lose bricks just for people to throw.
1:16:51
Speaker 1: Be smart, keep fighting the good fight because we love y'all.
1:16:54
Speaker 1: We appreciate y'all, and we wouldn't be making his noise
1:16:56
Speaker 1: without y'all. All right, but don't fall for the trick
1:16:59
Speaker 1: bad Let's not hustle battles. Keep it gone. Yeah no, really, man,
1:17:08
Speaker 1: somebody just took a load of loose bricks and put
1:17:10
Speaker 1: them out there for people to throw. You gotta you
1:17:12
Speaker 1: gotta listen, man. This has been going on since the sixties.
1:17:15
Speaker 1: The government, the police department has hired agitators. This has
1:17:20
Speaker 1: proven agitators to blend in with them and incite the
1:17:26
Speaker 1: riot even more so that they can turn around and
1:17:30
Speaker 1: flip the narrative. And they've done it for years. And look,
1:17:34
Speaker 1: it's just all types of organizations who could do that.
1:17:36
Speaker 1: I'm not putting it all on the police or the
1:17:38
Speaker 1: FBI something like that. So let me let me fix this.
1:17:41
Speaker 1: There are organizations who plant people within the protesters to
1:17:47
Speaker 1: incite them to do more, and once they get it
1:17:51
Speaker 1: over more, then you can bring in the police, the
1:17:55
Speaker 1: tear gas, the rubber bullets, and then next thing, you know,
1:17:58
Speaker 1: here come National Guard and now all your causes is
1:18:03
Speaker 1: washed behind the mask of looting in violence. Yeah, so
1:18:07
Speaker 1: terrorists tight organizations, and they have different agendas, so to speak.
1:18:13
Speaker 1: So rubber bullets ain't no joke us. You don't feel
1:18:19
Speaker 1: like rubber. That's the damn shell you can up. It
1:18:26
Speaker 1: could put you down, sir. Oh yeah, yeah, Well see
1:18:30
Speaker 1: they focused seeing it was focusing really hard on this
1:18:33
Speaker 1: white girl that had been hit by this rubber bullet.
1:18:36
Speaker 1: Oh you know, and that's her badge and her moment.
1:18:39
Speaker 1: You know, look, man, know this. They want to escalate
1:18:44
Speaker 1: this thing and turn this thing into some other bullets.
1:18:48
Speaker 1: That's why you have to be smart. All right, coming up,
1:18:51
Speaker 1: it's the last break of the day. Hey, Black Lives Matter,
1:18:55
Speaker 1: It is the last break of the day. Yes, it
1:18:58
Speaker 1: does a good one. That was a Girl and Jay
1:19:00
Speaker 1: and of course Steve will have some closing remarks and
1:19:04
Speaker 1: we'll talk about the Tracy Ellis Ross movie too. Yeah,
1:19:09
Speaker 1: coming up at forty nine minutes after, right after this
1:19:12
Speaker 1: you're listening to. All right, guys, here we are, last
1:19:17
Speaker 1: break of the day. Boy, what a day? What a weekend?
1:19:21
Speaker 1: A week? Yeah? What a year? Yeah? What a year?
1:19:24
Speaker 1: You're right here, Yeah, that's surely you said what a week.
1:19:29
Speaker 1: It's Monday. You already know from last week, from last week,
1:19:37
Speaker 1: it's gonna be long again. Yeah, but um, a change
1:19:43
Speaker 1: hopefully is gonna come. Yeah. In the Sam Cook song,
1:19:49
Speaker 1: that's right. Yeah, I've never seen protesters like at the
1:19:53
Speaker 1: White House like that though, Nope, I've never Yeah, you
1:19:58
Speaker 1: had to go into the bunker. He's done a lot.
1:20:01
Speaker 1: What you're hiding Trump, But he's gonna he's going to
1:20:10
Speaker 1: shift this blame. This is gonna be anybody's fault but his.
1:20:13
Speaker 1: He's already blaming on the mayor of Minneapolis. But he
1:20:16
Speaker 1: doesn't understand this is a national crisis. The last atrocity
1:20:21
Speaker 1: just occurred in Minneapolis. It's in national atrocity. The boycott
1:20:27
Speaker 1: is in la It's in Houston, it's in Dallas. It's
1:20:33
Speaker 1: in Atlanta. It's in Miami. It's in Virginia. It's in DC.
1:20:40
Speaker 1: It's in New York. It's popping off in Philly. It's
1:20:43
Speaker 1: in Detroit, it's in Chicago. It's happening everywhere. We happen
1:20:49
Speaker 1: to have a leader that does not understand the role
1:20:54
Speaker 1: of leadership in times of crises, where you would you
1:21:00
Speaker 1: need someone at the upper level to have a plan,
1:21:06
Speaker 1: to have some sense of calmness, to say to the
1:21:13
Speaker 1: people that he was elected to govern now even though
1:21:18
Speaker 1: he lost the popular election by several million votes, and
1:21:23
Speaker 1: due to the old archaic slave induced electoral college votes,
1:21:29
Speaker 1: so southern states could have the same amount of pool
1:21:32
Speaker 1: as northern states, and that needs to be abolished. So
1:21:35
Speaker 1: we can just get to the masses and what the
1:21:38
Speaker 1: majority of people stay, because there's no more south than
1:21:41
Speaker 1: north to south. Ain't rising again. You've done all y'all
1:21:44
Speaker 1: gonna do, And so we are just supposed to be
1:21:47
Speaker 1: one nation under God. That's what it's supposed to be
1:21:52
Speaker 1: we have a leader that we can expect nothing more of.
1:21:59
Speaker 1: He has has never governed people before, he has never
1:22:04
Speaker 1: served people before, he has never inspired people before, nor
1:22:10
Speaker 1: has he ever led people before. To expect him to
1:22:14
Speaker 1: do that all of a sudden, it's crazy. Everybody's wondering
1:22:18
Speaker 1: where he is now, whether they're trying to write a
1:22:20
Speaker 1: speech that a sound like something he would say, and
1:22:24
Speaker 1: hope then that he'll stick to the script. Other than that,
1:22:27
Speaker 1: he has nothing to say. You know, good and well.
1:22:32
Speaker 1: President Obama would have had something to say, I got
1:22:35
Speaker 1: news for you. Joe Biden has had something to say
1:22:39
Speaker 1: about it. All the mayors have had something to say
1:22:43
Speaker 1: about it. We've had everybody say something about it except
1:22:48
Speaker 1: the president in the highest office in the land. So
1:22:51
Speaker 1: many persons, So why does that leave us. Well, I've
1:22:55
Speaker 1: been thinking about this thing, and even though I fully
1:22:59
Speaker 1: one hund support all the protests, I think protests is important.
1:23:05
Speaker 1: I think it is man. I think it's the voice
1:23:08
Speaker 1: of the oppressed and the down trodden, and when you're
1:23:10
Speaker 1: not listening, these protests can turn into riots. I don't
1:23:15
Speaker 1: support the riots. I don't want to see this happen
1:23:20
Speaker 1: because I know what they're going to do, because I've
1:23:23
Speaker 1: watched them do it time and time again. So we've
1:23:26
Speaker 1: got to be smart. Stephen Jackson was on the show
1:23:28
Speaker 1: and said, don't hustle backwards. We cannot allow this government
1:23:33
Speaker 1: because this is what he will do. Now. He's got
1:23:36
Speaker 1: his finger on the trigger, waiting to pull the trigger
1:23:38
Speaker 1: to sit national guards to all these cities so he
1:23:41
Speaker 1: can appear to be doing something to stop the looting
1:23:45
Speaker 1: and burning of our major cities. And we will lose
1:23:49
Speaker 1: George Floyd's death, the Aubrey death to Trayvar Martins, the
1:23:53
Speaker 1: Eric Gardeners, and the and so on, so on, so on,
1:23:56
Speaker 1: and the list is too long for me to list,
1:23:59
Speaker 1: but we will use that if we allow them to
1:24:03
Speaker 1: take the burning and the looting and make it about that,
1:24:07
Speaker 1: because listen, none of these black men gave their lies
1:24:11
Speaker 1: so we can loot or burned. That's not the sacrifice
1:24:17
Speaker 1: of their life. And we can't diminish their lives and
1:24:20
Speaker 1: lower it down to that level. Right there, now, I
1:24:22
Speaker 1: got you angry because I'm mad too, man. I've been
1:24:25
Speaker 1: mad about this a lot longer than a lot of people.
1:24:28
Speaker 1: But we also got to be smart. We can't hustle backwards.
1:24:32
Speaker 1: We cannot let them change the narrative. Colin Kaepernick got
1:24:36
Speaker 1: on his knee when the national anthem was played for
1:24:40
Speaker 1: this very reason right here. This was why he knelt.
1:24:45
Speaker 1: But did you see what they did? Since the owners
1:24:48
Speaker 1: came down and started locking arms with their players, all
1:24:52
Speaker 1: of a sudden, the president, he saw a moment to
1:24:55
Speaker 1: seize it, and he turned it into the troops and
1:24:58
Speaker 1: the American flag, and all of a sudden, what Colin
1:25:02
Speaker 1: Kaepernick had kneeled for. They had changed the narrative. They've
1:25:07
Speaker 1: done it to us over and over and over, y'all,
1:25:11
Speaker 1: when mar Luther King had us sitting at lunch counters
1:25:14
Speaker 1: and getting riding on the front of the bus when
1:25:16
Speaker 1: Rosa park. They've always tried to switch to narrative and
1:25:20
Speaker 1: turn it into something else. They took affirmative action and
1:25:24
Speaker 1: flipped that around to where it was against white folks.
1:25:27
Speaker 1: Affirmative action was not against white folks, but they turned
1:25:30
Speaker 1: it around. They took black lives matters and they turned
1:25:34
Speaker 1: it into white lives matter too. That's their specialty. We
1:25:38
Speaker 1: cannot let them do that this time. Let's be smart, y'all,
1:25:42
Speaker 1: be careful protests, But keep your hands up in the air,
1:25:45
Speaker 1: keep your signs showing, but be respectful of the law.
1:25:49
Speaker 1: Don't give them a pin to stick you with. Y'all.
1:25:52
Speaker 1: Be careful out there, y'all. Be careful out there. Man,
1:25:55
Speaker 1: keep protesting, but be careful young people, and don't let
1:25:58
Speaker 1: them flip the script. Those are my clothes remarks yo
1:26:00
