- 0:25Speaker 1: my man, Rashan McDonald money Making Conversations Here we come.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversation. I am your host from
- 0:32Speaker 1: Sean McDonald. This is important to understand that everybody travels
- 0:35Speaker 1: a different path to success. That's because your brand is different.
- 0:38Speaker 1: The challenges you're facing your life will be different. So
- 0:41Speaker 1: stop reading other people's success stories so you can read
- 0:44Speaker 1: and write your own. Okay, it's about you. That's what
- 0:46Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation was created to motivate you to go
- 0:49Speaker 1: pass your success that you feel that other people told
- 0:51Speaker 1: you could not accomplish. Because their stories that you read
- 0:55Speaker 1: a good direction. They also will help you see the
- 0:57Speaker 1: goals are reachable. But in the end, it's about you
- 0:59Speaker 1: planning your own goals and you committed to your effort.
- 1:03Speaker 1: My next guest is Chef Triggay Fraser. She grew up
- 1:06Speaker 1: eating her grandmother's farm fresh cooking. She's a seasoned chef
- 1:10Speaker 1: who likes to twist old fashioned recipes with her own
- 1:13Speaker 1: unique flair. She learned the basis at the cardon Blue,
- 1:16Speaker 1: but she soon re lies that her own love for
- 1:18Speaker 1: cooking came from her youthful soul and love for fusion cuisine.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Chef Tregay is a successful, self employed mother who relates
- 1:25Speaker 1: best to a younger generation. She's the first African American
- 1:28Speaker 1: woman to win Food Network Star, two time competitor of
- 1:31Speaker 1: Cutthroat Kitchen, and three time Competitive Guys Grocery Games. She
- 1:35Speaker 1: has her own show on the Old Network called triggage
- 1:38Speaker 1: Way that airs every Saturday afternoon at twelve thirty pm.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Please work with the money making Conversation. She got a
- 1:44Speaker 1: lot to say now, Chef Triggy, whoa boy, A lot
- 1:51Speaker 1: to say now about you? Now, let's talk about it
- 1:54Speaker 1: because I you know, I can bake a little bit, well,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I can really banke. I could really bake now now.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But these competitions are a different world because see, I've
- 2:03Speaker 1: been asked to come on some of these shows as
- 2:06Speaker 1: a contestant, okay, and I told now not, rather be
- 2:09Speaker 1: a judge. But then I realized that they don't prep
- 2:13Speaker 1: you on the recipes. Okay, let's let's go. Let's start
- 2:17Speaker 1: with the Food Network start where you became the African,
- 2:20Speaker 1: first African American woman to win the Food Network. Start.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Tell us about that competition. Oh man, that competition was
- 2:27Speaker 1: really stiff. It was really tight. But you know what,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm a firm believer in UM just the power of manifestation,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and I believe anything that I want to do, I
- 2:36Speaker 1: can't do UM. And it was so funny because before
- 2:39Speaker 1: I got on that show, I was want to show
- 2:42Speaker 1: called Cutthroat Kitchen and God's Grocery Games. I have been
- 2:44Speaker 1: doing a lot of competing and I remember sitting in
- 2:48Speaker 1: my bed seeing UM Food Network Star season eleven, and
- 2:52Speaker 1: I was like, well, I see a lot of people
- 2:55Speaker 1: from like Cutthroaw Kitchen and God's Grocer Games. Why didn't
- 2:57Speaker 1: they call me? I was like, it's okay, and I'm
- 3:00Speaker 1: not gonna feel like that long application. They're just gonna
- 3:02Speaker 1: call me and they're just gonna put me on the
- 3:04Speaker 1: show with two weeks later Food Network Start, Cuto Kitchen
- 3:08Speaker 1: be Bobby's play, I'll call me at the same time
- 3:10Speaker 1: to be on the show. So of course I chose
- 3:12Speaker 1: Food Network Start because that's a job. Um. And then
- 3:16Speaker 1: I remember because this was like, let's start, explain what
- 3:21Speaker 1: you just said? You said, okay, you had uh, Bobby
- 3:24Speaker 1: Flay called you, right, and then you and then that
- 3:27Speaker 1: what was those show that called you? Because the Kitchen
- 3:29Speaker 1: called me to come back to do like a reunion show,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and then um, food Network Star called me all in
- 3:35Speaker 1: the same time the same day. What was the difference
- 3:38Speaker 1: and what made that decision to go with the Food
- 3:40Speaker 1: Network Start? How could you get a job like Food
- 3:43Speaker 1: Network Star? You become a Food Network Star? Like what
- 3:47Speaker 1: do I want to do? Go play a competition for
- 3:50Speaker 1: a few seconds, or get a job and become the
- 3:52Speaker 1: next Food Network Start? Right, I think I'm gonna go
- 3:55Speaker 1: with Food Network Star. And you know at the time,
- 3:58Speaker 1: you know, I didn't have a lot of money. So
- 3:59Speaker 1: I remember buying this dress and my bills was doing
- 4:03Speaker 1: everything chat but I was like, listen if the dress
- 4:05Speaker 1: was like five hundred ills, but I was like, listen,
- 4:08Speaker 1: this is dress I'm aware when I win, so I
- 4:10Speaker 1: need to get this dress. So I remember getting the dress,
- 4:13Speaker 1: calling the lady and saying, look this address. Put this
- 4:16Speaker 1: in wardrobe because we have to sit in our wardrobe.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And I said, this dress, I'm aware when I win,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and she laughed at me. But that is the dress
- 4:22Speaker 1: that I wore when I wont Now, it was a
- 4:24Speaker 1: challenge because there are not a lot of people like
- 4:28Speaker 1: me on Food Network. I'm very different. I'm very loud,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm very fun um, and I just like to have
- 4:36Speaker 1: a good time, you know, as well as cooking as well.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So you know, I talked a little different. I got
- 4:41Speaker 1: a country swine. I'm from Philly, but Atlanta is all
- 4:43Speaker 1: up inside of me, so um. You know. I knew
- 4:47Speaker 1: that it would be a challenge and I knew that
- 4:48Speaker 1: it would be different. It was so funny because the
- 4:50Speaker 1: first episode set the tone for the whole season for
- 4:55Speaker 1: me to really just shut it down, like I just
- 4:58Speaker 1: locked in because I came into it almost like changing myself.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Like well, I came on and they were like, well,
- 5:06Speaker 1: we want you to do a cold open, So I
- 5:08Speaker 1: did the cold open my way Tree gay Way originally right, Hey,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm Tree gay, It's gonna be killed da, Yes, this
- 5:16Speaker 1: is this is this And I remember Gialla saying, well,
- 5:21Speaker 1: I like you, but um, I don't know, I've never
- 5:24Speaker 1: met anyone like you before. Um you seemed like a caricature,
- 5:28Speaker 1: That's what she said. So for me, I was like,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I took that as like not taking me serious. So
- 5:35Speaker 1: I changed. So when we got to redo it, I
- 5:38Speaker 1: was like, Hi, I'm chere gay, you know, And I
- 5:42Speaker 1: was real like mainstream. But we had to watch the
- 5:46Speaker 1: episode in the movie theater. That was the challenge. Tyler
- 5:49Speaker 1: Florence was the judge, the guest judge, Bobby Flay and
- 5:52Speaker 1: Jia and so we're in this big screen. So I
- 5:56Speaker 1: was able to see myself outside of myself on this
- 6:00Speaker 1: big screen with all these people in here, and I
- 6:03Speaker 1: was able to see that that is not the move.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Like I was completely different. I didn't even know who
- 6:08Speaker 1: I was. I cried, and I remember Giada saying, well,
- 6:13Speaker 1: who was that? Like? You completely changed, Like I was like, well,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you know, you said I look like a caricature. And
- 6:20Speaker 1: I wanted to take this serious because this is a job.
- 6:22Speaker 1: You know, I need this for my children, myself, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: So for me, you know, I want to be taken serious.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And she was like, well, I didn't say I didn't
- 6:31Speaker 1: like it. I just said I've never seen anything like it.
- 6:35Speaker 1: She was like, and you just showed us today that
- 6:37Speaker 1: you can't even pretend to be someone else besides yourself,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and we love who you are, So just stay yourself.
- 6:44Speaker 1: That's all I needed. That was the green light. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: was gone. I started winning competition at the competition, and
- 6:49Speaker 1: then I took home the prize. That's all I needed
- 6:51Speaker 1: to hear was that it was okay to be myself. Know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: that's important to say. That's why I want you to
- 6:56Speaker 1: share that story because of the fact that a lot
- 6:58Speaker 1: of people always typically you know, when you fall down,
- 7:01Speaker 1: only you can get yourself up. If you can pretend
- 7:03Speaker 1: to be somebody else when you fall down, you're gonna
- 7:05Speaker 1: stay down. And so you should never be who you
- 7:08Speaker 1: think for taking advice. If somebody tells you I want
- 7:10Speaker 1: you to be this person, if it's not you, it's
- 7:13Speaker 1: not your natural way of life, then when you fall
- 7:16Speaker 1: a worth that person to get you back up. And
- 7:18Speaker 1: so that was a good point to tell everybody when
- 7:21Speaker 1: I talking about when people are worried by leaving jobs,
- 7:23Speaker 1: or people worried about career changes. They're worried about what
- 7:26Speaker 1: other people may think. What do you think? What do
- 7:28Speaker 1: you feel? Do you feel you're gonna be successful at this?
- 7:30Speaker 1: And that's all you're saying, right there, ri Sean, I
- 7:33Speaker 1: love somebody to question who I was for the first
- 7:35Speaker 1: time in my life. And then she looked at me
- 7:37Speaker 1: and went, I just said change. I just had no
- 7:40Speaker 1: opinion about who I thought you were, and I realized
- 7:43Speaker 1: now that that's the only person you can be, So
- 7:46Speaker 1: go back and bid. And that changed your life? Yes, yes,
- 7:50Speaker 1: it really did. Um, I mean, it really just gave
- 7:53Speaker 1: me confidence. Like I'm already a pretty confident person, I
- 7:56Speaker 1: would like to say, but I think my confidence was
- 8:00Speaker 1: a little down at that time because, you know, I'm
- 8:03Speaker 1: in a room full of people who, you know, experienced
- 8:05Speaker 1: things that I haven't experienced. They they speak a different
- 8:09Speaker 1: way than I do. You know, they move a different way,
- 8:12Speaker 1: They're from a different place than I am, you know,
- 8:15Speaker 1: but they're also older. You start thinking, like, I'm limited myself,
- 8:19Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, it doesn't really matter
- 8:20Speaker 1: where I'm from. It doesn't matter how I talk, it
- 8:22Speaker 1: doesn't matter how I look. As long as I come
- 8:24Speaker 1: and bring my a game and I do the best
- 8:25Speaker 1: that I can do, and I come up and show
- 8:27Speaker 1: up and show out. It really don't matter what these
- 8:29Speaker 1: people have done and where they come from. And I
- 8:32Speaker 1: had to take a step back in and really, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: tap myself on the end, like, no, girl, Like you
- 8:39Speaker 1: have to admit that you were dealing with an age
- 8:41Speaker 1: different as well. You wanted the younger chef that have
- 8:44Speaker 1: gotten into those type of competitions, Okay, and let's say
- 8:48Speaker 1: a little hip hop in your life. Okay, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: you know, a little Dirty South in your life, and
- 8:53Speaker 1: so the little flavor in your life, and so that
- 8:55Speaker 1: is good for your brand. So when you want, when
- 8:58Speaker 1: you want, what would the immedia changes that you felt
- 9:00Speaker 1: in your career when you won Food Network Stop? Um
- 9:04Speaker 1: my immedia changes where you know, I started to become
- 9:07Speaker 1: a part of like this different crowd. You know, all
- 9:09Speaker 1: of the people that I would look at on TV
- 9:12Speaker 1: as a kid, like they're my coworkers. Um, Like we're
- 9:19Speaker 1: getting paid the same amount, one of the same things,
- 9:21Speaker 1: like one shows like they are so so real. Um.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Once I got past like the starstruck moment and just realized,
- 9:28Speaker 1: like we're all on the same playing field. Um, I
- 9:31Speaker 1: just kept going with whatever they were bringing to me. However,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I did learn that, um, there may have been like
- 9:39Speaker 1: a niche or y'allt reader that I should be in.
- 9:41Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Like it was, it didn't go.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You know what I tell people all the time, sometimes
- 9:45Speaker 1: when you get on TV, you just have these expectations,
- 9:48Speaker 1: um to just skyrocket like you're the net star now,
- 9:51Speaker 1: like you know you're gonna get it in me. But
- 9:54Speaker 1: I had to learn very quickly that that's not how
- 9:56Speaker 1: it goes. This is a business, um, and that's just
- 9:59Speaker 1: a major show business. And when you're up, you up,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and when you're down, you down. But when you're down,
- 10:05Speaker 1: you know what I learned was to look at it
- 10:07Speaker 1: as you know, this thing that we call TV is
- 10:11Speaker 1: really to market and promote me and my business. So
- 10:15Speaker 1: I got smart and I decided because you know it's
- 10:18Speaker 1: it's it's addictive, you know, to be on a TV
- 10:21Speaker 1: show and to be doing these large commercials. I mean
- 10:24Speaker 1: I've done Johnsonville commercials, national brands, laughing cow cheese. I
- 10:28Speaker 1: mean there were put me a part of all these
- 10:29Speaker 1: big things. So who become became addictive. You know, That's
- 10:32Speaker 1: all I wanted to do. I kind of forgot about
- 10:35Speaker 1: everything else that I did, and I remember I was
- 10:38Speaker 1: super sad because you know, again, I'm different. So they
- 10:42Speaker 1: had to find a place to put me. Um and listen,
- 10:45Speaker 1: when I want Food Network Starry, it wasn't our roses
- 10:47Speaker 1: and peaches, you know, was kind of like what who
- 10:51Speaker 1: you know? Um? So I had to kind of get
- 10:54Speaker 1: past that. But then I remember talking to Duff, and
- 10:57Speaker 1: Duff is a I don't know if you know Duff,
- 10:59Speaker 1: but he's a cake I on Food Network super big,
- 11:03Speaker 1: and I remember saying, man, what do you do when
- 11:04Speaker 1: you get in these positions? Because at the time, like
- 11:06Speaker 1: there wasn't a lot of TV coming in. Um, I
- 11:09Speaker 1: was not even focusing on my business. I was more
- 11:12Speaker 1: so like why am I not getting more stuffy? You know?
- 11:14Speaker 1: It was like a fast ride than one day. It
- 11:16Speaker 1: was just like, sir, it slowed all the way down.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And he said, you know what I did when that
- 11:21Speaker 1: happened to meetri Gae, I said what he said, I
- 11:25Speaker 1: just started doing what I did to get me them
- 11:27Speaker 1: the first place, started making cakes. So I said, you
- 11:32Speaker 1: know what, You're right, I went and I started back
- 11:37Speaker 1: doing my catering, started back doing my meal prep. I
- 11:40Speaker 1: started the line of products, my chef knife, my season ends,
- 11:45Speaker 1: my plant based butter. I just really put everything that
- 11:49Speaker 1: I was putting into television into myself. I got my
- 11:53Speaker 1: own production company and I started doing like YouTube and stuff. Um.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I started doing this thing called your Gate Eats Atlanta,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and I would use I basically utilized my resources. You
- 12:05Speaker 1: know I didn't I got. I gained so much from
- 12:08Speaker 1: becoming a food network start because I gained relationships, which
- 12:12Speaker 1: are more important than even being on TV. Right, So
- 12:15Speaker 1: I said, okay, well, shoot, let me call some of
- 12:17Speaker 1: these producers. Let me call this, let me call that
- 12:19Speaker 1: a little bit, the show I'm thinking about doing. Let
- 12:20Speaker 1: me call these restaurants. I've done twenty five episodes, the
- 12:23Speaker 1: best thing I ever ate, So I know they're gonna
- 12:25Speaker 1: let me come and review that restaurant. This is a
- 12:26Speaker 1: good show for me. So I started doing that on YouTube.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I just kept going, and then one day I started
- 12:32Speaker 1: getting callbacks. They started wanting me back on TV. I
- 12:36Speaker 1: guess they were watching the sea. Then you weren't waiting, Chef,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you weren't waiting. That was the key. You weren't waiting
- 12:44Speaker 1: for them, and so the time that you were waiting
- 12:46Speaker 1: that was really making your answer you. Now we're filling
- 12:49Speaker 1: up with quality time. You work, building your resume at
- 12:51Speaker 1: your bio and I tell people all that time. So
- 12:54Speaker 1: so now you're on own network. Okay, you gotta show
- 12:57Speaker 1: on the Oprah Winfree network named after you. It's finally here,
- 13:03Speaker 1: the season of celebration. And no matter how you celebrate
- 13:07Speaker 1: with family and friends, whether you're preparing for reis magos

- 15:02Speaker 1: should sit around and wait for the next opportunity to
- 15:05Speaker 1: make your next opportunity. So the show comes on Saturday.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It's well third every Saturday on the own network, Tree
- 15:11Speaker 1: Gauge Way, I know what that shows about. What are
- 15:14Speaker 1: you doing to build momentum beyond that show? As that
- 15:17Speaker 1: show is airing? Um you know right now, since we're
- 15:22Speaker 1: aeron winning the first season, I'm just kind of getting
- 15:25Speaker 1: a lot of feedback. I'm I'm I'm educating myself more
- 15:28Speaker 1: and more recipes and more ideas than like what do
- 15:30Speaker 1: people want to know? I'm so proud of Tree Gay's way,
- 15:33Speaker 1: like because it ain't been my way for so long,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And they have a show
- 15:37Speaker 1: named Sure Gays Wide, and then it's like, now I
- 15:41Speaker 1: maybe to like really seed knowledge into people because I'm
- 15:43Speaker 1: really big into education, like educating people. Um So I'm
- 15:48Speaker 1: just kind of taking what I have now the shows
- 15:51Speaker 1: are airring, and I'm just pushing what I have. I'm
- 15:53Speaker 1: pushing my products, I'm pushing more classes. I'm doing stuff
- 15:56Speaker 1: with um my junior chefs. I'm trying to create more
- 15:59Speaker 1: things and more ideas around that UM. In the meantime,
- 16:02Speaker 1: in between times, I'm working on my book because I
- 16:05Speaker 1: definitely have a story to tell, So I'm in the
- 16:07Speaker 1: process of working on that UM. And then I'm also
- 16:10Speaker 1: getting ready to open a a prep kitchen because and
- 16:15Speaker 1: in the front of it it will be a UM
- 16:18Speaker 1: a specialty store because I have so many products and
- 16:20Speaker 1: you know, especially right now with pandemic going on, one
- 16:23Speaker 1: of the things I realized in the beginning of the
- 16:25Speaker 1: pandemic was that there are so many chefs that need
- 16:29Speaker 1: a place to cook. They are like, they just need
- 16:33Speaker 1: a kitchen in these places they've charged so much. So
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna provide a safe haven for chefs to come
- 16:40Speaker 1: and rent out my kitchen space and also sell their
- 16:43Speaker 1: products in my specialty store so we could just keep
- 16:46Speaker 1: building on what we already have, which will also be
- 16:49Speaker 1: a great hub for the catering company. And I've been
- 16:51Speaker 1: doing a lot of catering lately. I've been doing a
- 16:54Speaker 1: lot of cooking classes lately, UM working on some seminars.
- 16:58Speaker 1: So I'm just building off the things that are already
- 17:00Speaker 1: have and just making them better. I'm not trying to
- 17:02Speaker 1: reinvent the wheel and trying to do something different in
- 17:05Speaker 1: the midst like because this is the moment where I
- 17:08Speaker 1: need to capitalize off of all the things that I've
- 17:10Speaker 1: been doing and better. So that's what I love it.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I love the fact that you are an entrepreneur because
- 17:18Speaker 1: first of all, you you went in you want Food
- 17:21Speaker 1: Network start a blessing, but then you got caught up
- 17:24Speaker 1: expecting their phone, wait on their phone to ring. But
- 17:27Speaker 1: then advice came your way. Do the things that got
- 17:31Speaker 1: you there. Yes, And that's what I tell people all
- 17:34Speaker 1: the time. You know, you know a lot of people
- 17:36Speaker 1: that are signed with big agents in l A. And
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm with william Rs. And then just stopped. We know
- 17:41Speaker 1: that call to put you in a movie, that call
- 17:44Speaker 1: to put you in the sitcom? But why didn't william
- 17:46Speaker 1: Are sign you? Like I said, why did the Food
- 17:49Speaker 1: Network start sign you? Because you were busy? Like you said,
- 17:52Speaker 1: you were on the cooking Kitchen and you went, I
- 17:55Speaker 1: should be on that because I've done the grocery games.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I've seen these people with guess what, they were being busy.
- 18:00Speaker 1: That's where they got picked. The blessing in this whole
- 18:03Speaker 1: conversation is you got picked, but you on and now
- 18:06Speaker 1: from a business standpoint, you understanding what you have to do,
- 18:10Speaker 1: keep the wheels moving in a pro direction that you control.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And that's wonderful. What advice we should get people with
- 18:17Speaker 1: hearing all this, all the things you've come through. You
- 18:19Speaker 1: have a popular show, like I said, it's on own
- 18:21Speaker 1: network Errors every Saturday, or to our thirty culture gage
- 18:24Speaker 1: Way named after you, chef, your gay Frasier. Frasier not
- 18:28Speaker 1: on the show. It's your gay. That's her name. She's
- 18:30Speaker 1: out of Philly now, she lives in the land. Got
- 18:32Speaker 1: a great personality, got this great smile, got to have
- 18:35Speaker 1: big hair. Doesn't look like the classic chef that you
- 18:38Speaker 1: will see OTV. But you. But but food is the
- 18:42Speaker 1: number one view in social media, is the number one
- 18:45Speaker 1: viewed on YouTube. And I've just been waiting for the
- 18:48Speaker 1: black stars like you just start percolating to the top
- 18:52Speaker 1: because black people love food and I'm tired of our
- 18:55Speaker 1: food being just so food. You know what I'm saying.
- 18:59Speaker 1: We are a very diverse eating community and that's what
- 19:02Speaker 1: you're showing today. Gage Way. Tell us about your show.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Oh man, your gaze Way. It's so amazing. I literally
- 19:09Speaker 1: just take food and recipes that I do with my
- 19:12Speaker 1: family and my friends, and then I'm giving it to
- 19:14Speaker 1: the people at home. You know. Um, we're in the
- 19:17Speaker 1: fifth episode now. I literally everybody who you see on
- 19:20Speaker 1: my show, it's not a game. They're really my children,
- 19:23Speaker 1: they are really my family, they are really my friends. Um.
- 19:27Speaker 1: The beautiful thing about this show is like when Oprah
- 19:30Speaker 1: gave me the opportunity, she was literally like, do whatever
- 19:35Speaker 1: you want. And to have that opportunity is like so amazing.
- 19:41Speaker 1: So I said, if I'm gonna do that, I'm gonna
- 19:44Speaker 1: do that to the fullest. So one of my episodes
- 19:48Speaker 1: are like brunch with my boys. So my you know,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I do list to my son. He loves hot cheetos.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So I did it before, you know, So I did.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I'm sorry, y'all. So I did a hot cheetoh crusted
- 20:00Speaker 1: again with cheddar chid waffles, and you know another one
- 20:05Speaker 1: don't crusted chicken with cheddar chid waffles and roasted red
- 20:12Speaker 1: pepper sarah. Um. Then I did one with my best
- 20:15Speaker 1: friend and you know, he was one of the biggest
- 20:19Speaker 1: um waste training line, Like he does the male waste
- 20:22Speaker 1: trainers and he's a super big in the gay community.
- 20:25Speaker 1: And it was beautiful to be able to bring him
- 20:27Speaker 1: on the show. One to show how versattle I am
- 20:29Speaker 1: to where I also do healthy food too, because I
- 20:31Speaker 1: could do classes for cancer patients here in the Atlanta
- 20:34Speaker 1: area and so that was good. And then to also
- 20:37Speaker 1: be able to talk about my friend. You know, he
- 20:39Speaker 1: came out to me and you know, I wanted him
- 20:42Speaker 1: to be the best that he could be, and so
- 20:43Speaker 1: I felt that that would touch so many other people
- 20:46Speaker 1: who are going through that point in their life and
- 20:48Speaker 1: and seeing that you know, once you just be yourself.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I'm always about being yourself, and that was also an
- 20:54Speaker 1: extension of be yourself from the moment, from the food
- 20:57Speaker 1: that we're starting to even that you know from and
- 20:59Speaker 1: then I encourage that from other people. Another one with
- 21:02Speaker 1: friends giving, when we did Jerk Turkey Wings and naked
- 21:06Speaker 1: apple Pie and I go to the apple orchard with
- 21:09Speaker 1: my best friend and we have so much fun, and
- 21:11Speaker 1: my son's birthday party. So it's like these are all
- 21:14Speaker 1: little things that you probably recognize in your own life.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You know, everybody has friends, friends giving, everybody has a
- 21:21Speaker 1: little brunch. You know, everybody wants to get snatched. And
- 21:24Speaker 1: that's another thing I name the show snatched because one thing,
- 21:27Speaker 1: um the episode was snatched because one thing I noticed
- 21:29Speaker 1: is that you know, our lingo a lot of people.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Once you get in this industry, you realize they don't
- 21:35Speaker 1: even understand what we're talking about. Now, that's tin So
- 21:38Speaker 1: I created a show around that because I'm not just
- 21:40Speaker 1: doing it for me. I'm doing it for the culture.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You know, I wanted to I want to shine and
- 21:44Speaker 1: I want to be relatable and let other chefs like
- 21:48Speaker 1: me know that you could do this too. You know
- 21:51Speaker 1: you could. You can have a little slang in you
- 21:54Speaker 1: know you can have you have. You know you can
- 21:56Speaker 1: do your thing and still be successful. You don't have
- 22:00Speaker 1: to be somebody else. You just have to own who
- 22:03Speaker 1: you are. Your friends, I love you, I love you,
- 22:07Speaker 1: I love your brand, I love your personality that I
- 22:10Speaker 1: love your openness. I love the fact that if you fall,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you're gonna get up because you know why you're doing
- 22:16Speaker 1: this in life. You're not doing it because somebody told
- 22:18Speaker 1: you to do it. And that's like you said that
- 22:21Speaker 1: first episode. Food Network really allowed you to say, I
- 22:24Speaker 1: could be myself and I can win, And you're winning
- 22:26Speaker 1: being yourself and I gotta eat that. That that with
- 22:30Speaker 1: a hot Cheeto girl and I think made like I
- 22:37Speaker 1: did a braised curry chicken with like a lemon rug
- 22:40Speaker 1: kill and coalman and keimwa and a butternut squashing there.
- 22:45Speaker 1: And then we did a man Go dragon food smoothie.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Like it's so versatile. We do so many things. One
- 22:50Speaker 1: of the episodes, I think I'm gonna do some colar
- 22:52Speaker 1: greens and smother cork chops, like we do everything on
- 22:56Speaker 1: that show because I want to touch everybody. Well, so
- 23:02Speaker 1: I'm based. I'm based in Atlanta that my office has
- 23:05Speaker 1: a full kitchen in it because I love to cook
- 23:07Speaker 1: another baby, but my staff, and like I'm making them
- 23:09Speaker 1: red beans and rice this week with corn bread this week.
- 23:13Speaker 1: You know they're gonna have that. And I'm making a
- 23:15Speaker 1: like you I twitched up, and then I'm gonna I'm
- 23:17Speaker 1: gonna make a taco salad problem for them on Friday.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You know, an individual dishes gotta try to beat COVID
- 23:22Speaker 1: safe and everything. But and so so I want I
- 23:25Speaker 1: want you to come by my place. You know, we
- 23:27Speaker 1: schurted down and video tape ourselves having fun making something
- 23:31Speaker 1: together and things like that. I I gotta made them
- 23:34Speaker 1: a spice cake the other day we did a barbecue
- 23:37Speaker 1: spread for lunch and my because I wanted a place
- 23:39Speaker 1: where I can enjoy my life, you know where if
- 23:42Speaker 1: I if I got to work early, because you know
- 23:44Speaker 1: what happened when I used to work when I didn't
- 23:46Speaker 1: own my building, was I make it at home and
- 23:48Speaker 1: then I bring it to work. So now they're coming
- 23:51Speaker 1: I work. They started, they they're coming there. And the
- 23:54Speaker 1: other day they came in. I was in the middle
- 23:55Speaker 1: of making raising pudding. Okay when the caral mail, I said,
- 23:59Speaker 1: ID mediums that are you gonna be ready? As a
- 24:01Speaker 1: don't word, put it in the oven. Forty five minutes
- 24:04Speaker 1: later me was open, pulled it out of the oven,
- 24:06Speaker 1: let it cool for about ten minutes, having them some
- 24:09Speaker 1: some some vanilla bean ice cream, and we was having
- 24:12Speaker 1: a good time. So that's my life and just hearing
- 24:14Speaker 1: you you enjoying your life, and I don't want you
- 24:17Speaker 1: to stop enjoying your life. But I wanted to extend
- 24:19Speaker 1: the invitation that I want to I want to promote
- 24:22Speaker 1: your brand. I want to be able to tell everybody
- 24:25Speaker 1: how great you are it uh, just living your life,
- 24:28Speaker 1: but more important you being you though. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Well I got the invite, so you can't take it back. No, no, no,
- 24:35Speaker 1: no you I can't take back no, no doubt. I've
- 24:38Speaker 1: learned that in this call. I know you. You put
- 24:40Speaker 1: some on social media about me. You have every sean
- 24:43Speaker 1: I'll be I'll be on Instagram story. We're gonna, we're gonna,
- 24:49Speaker 1: we're gonna come over here. And you didn't say the
- 24:53Speaker 1: kitchen around Absolutely shift coming to come to kittch you
- 24:55Speaker 1: know it's a big, roomy kitchen, you know, and uh,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and just let you talk about your career, your stuff
- 25:00Speaker 1: like that. And it's about relationships. And I'm big on relationship.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Anything I can help you do or point you in
- 25:06Speaker 1: the right direction. I've been blessed to be able to
- 25:07Speaker 1: work with a lot of famous people. I've been blessed
- 25:10Speaker 1: to be able to build a lot of big careers,
- 25:12Speaker 1: whether it's corporate or individual. So when I see somebody
- 25:15Speaker 1: like you, who who is a unique talent. You are
- 25:18Speaker 1: a unique talent, and you're still very young. That means
- 25:21Speaker 1: that your future is going to be bright. But more importantly,
- 25:24Speaker 1: you are a hard workers and that's what I love
- 25:27Speaker 1: about you. You do not run from the dirty kitchen,
- 25:30Speaker 1: especially if you're the one that made it dirty. You're
- 25:31Speaker 1: gonna clean that, you know. I'm just coming from an event,
- 25:37Speaker 1: taking out the earring, limp stick on and everything, and
- 25:40Speaker 1: I'm getting in there with my team. My team no
- 25:42Speaker 1: I don't like, is gonna figure out another way. And
- 25:45Speaker 1: I tell people all the time, if I can leave
- 25:47Speaker 1: you with anything, it's just never give up. And don't
- 25:49Speaker 1: spend so much time worrying about the bad. Takes away
- 25:54Speaker 1: from time figuring out the process to get to the good.
- 25:58Speaker 1: You know, it's a journey, and you know we just
- 26:00Speaker 1: gotta keep going through it. And it ain't always gonna
- 26:03Speaker 1: be great. But when it's good, it's good, you know.
- 26:06Speaker 1: So I just spend less time focusing on negative more
- 26:10Speaker 1: time focusing on positive. I do appreciate the negative. Actually
- 26:13Speaker 1: I embrace it, yes, um, because without it, who could learn?
- 26:19Speaker 1: How would I know if it's wrong, if it's never
- 26:21Speaker 1: happened to me? Kick all the doors, look, look, close
- 26:25Speaker 1: all the doors in my face. I'm gonna kick one
- 26:27Speaker 1: down in there and push it back over When she

- 26:44Speaker 1: flip on YouTube or Facebook live and they have fun
- 26:46Speaker 1: and laugh. Because I'm from Houston, Texas. I'm country, So
