- 0:00Well, good morning, everyone. For those of you who don't know
- 0:04me, my name is Vance Furtado. I'm a elder here at the church,
- 0:09which sort of means, I guess I'm an old guy, OK, But also I'm a
- 0:16teaching volunteer, teaching pastor here at the church as
- 0:18well. So we have been doing this
- 0:21series on losing different things, things that we would
- 0:25really like to get rid of. So this morning we're going to
- 0:31go to John chapter 14, and our topic is called Losing our
- 0:37Fears. All right.
- 0:39And for time's sake, we do not have time to look at everything
- 0:42in John 14. So I would really encourage
- 0:46everyone to read John 14, read the whole Gospel of John.
- 0:50It's a beautiful gospel. Now, let me tell you about ATV
- 0:56show. That kind of ties into our
- 0:57topic. There's ATV show, and Pastor
- 1:01Dave told me, I guess they brought this show back.
- 1:08It's called Fear Factor. All right.
- 1:13Now, for those of you who are not familiar with the show,
- 1:16imagine a man who was really scared of spiders.
- 1:21So this show would be the kind of show that would take someone
- 1:24like that, put him in a clear plexiglass cage so we could see.
- 1:31Then they open the top of the cage that he can't reach, and
- 1:34they dump in a couple of boxes of spiders.
- 1:38And then we watch or imagine a woman who happens to be afraid
- 1:45of heights, which is one of my fears.
- 1:48So they blindfold her, tie a safety rope onto her belt, lead
- 1:53her out to the edge of a Cliff, tell her to take off the
- 1:56blindfold. What a stupid idea for a show.
- 2:03Seriously. You know, one of my biggest
- 2:08fears, honestly, is losing control in a situation like
- 2:16missing a connecting flight, being stranded in an unknown
- 2:22airport in a foreign country on the other side of the world.
- 2:30This happened to me, OK? And I'll tell you, my fear and
- 2:36anxiety shot through the roof. Have you ever felt that kind of
- 2:44numbing, consuming anxiety? A deep fear or terror that feeds
- 2:51upon your darkest thoughts? The good news is this though, we
- 2:58do not have to live that way. You see, the idea we're looking
- 3:04at this morning is this. Jesus frees us from our fears,
- 3:11whether our fear is about a family member or a close friend,
- 3:15our need for a job, overcoming paying off debts, overcoming an
- 3:21addiction, finding that right person to spend our life with,
- 3:25finding that future job or career, the anxiety of a health
- 3:30crisis. Whatever our fear is, Jesus can
- 3:35give us freedom. So let's start reading some
- 3:42verses in John chapter 14. OK, beginning at verse one.
- 3:47Here we go. Let not your hearts be troubled.
- 3:52believe in God. By the way, it's Jesus that's
- 3:55speaking. believe in God, believe also in me.
- 3:59In my Father's house are many rooms.
- 4:02If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a
- 4:05place for you? And if I go to prepare a place
- 4:09for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I
- 4:14am, you may be also. And you know the way to where
- 4:19I'm going. Thomas said to him, Lord, we
- 4:23don't know where you're going. How can we know the way?
- 4:28Jesus said to him, I am the way and the truth and the life.
- 4:35No one comes to the Father except through me.
- 4:40Let's jump down to verse 15. If you love me, you will keep my
- 4:45commandments, and I will ask the Father, and He will give you
- 4:49another helper to be with you forever.
- 4:51Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because
- 4:56it neither sees Him nor knows Him.
- 4:59You know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
- 5:04Verse 25. These things I have spoken to
- 5:08you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit,
- 5:13whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all
- 5:16things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said
- 5:20to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace
- 5:25I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give
- 5:30to you. Let not your hearts be troubled,
- 5:34neither let them be afraid. OK, we're going to be looking at
- 5:42two ways Jesus frees us from fear.
- 5:45First way, Jesus frees us from fear when we make 2 choices.
- 5:53That's in verse one and then also in verse 27.
- 5:57Secondly, Jesus frees us from fear when we believe for facts.
- 6:04Now I say believe, but actually it's more than that because this
- 6:08is not information. This is basically information we
- 6:12have to act upon all right when we believe 4 facts.
- 6:16So let's talk first of all about how Jesus frees us from fear.
- 6:21When we make 2 choices, our first choice is actually there
- 6:25in verse one, Jesus says believe in God, believe also in me.
- 6:30Another way to translate that you believe in God, believe in
- 6:35me too. You know, sometimes we can
- 6:41believe some really strange things.
- 6:46Like when I was a kid, a little guy I never wanted to sleep in
- 6:53bed with dangling my arm off the side of the bed or my leg off
- 7:01the side of the bed. There might be a monster there.
- 7:07You know what? I'm now 65 years old.
- 7:10I still do not like to have my leg or arm dangling over the
- 7:14side of the bed. Jesus is not talking about
- 7:22childhood fear. Instead, he's referring to
- 7:26believing and trusting in the Almighty God Himself and
- 7:32trusting in Jesus himself, the perfect God, man who lived among
- 7:38us and who died for us. Now, earlier in this Gospel,
- 7:44back in Chapter 11, we're told there how Jesus's good friend
- 7:49Lazarus died, and Jesus arrived at the home of Mary and Martha,
- 7:57the sisters of Lazarus, about four days after he died.
- 8:02And everybody's upset, including Jesus.
- 8:05But as Jesus is standing outside Lazarus's tomb, he's talking to
- 8:11Martha, Lazarus's sister, and he says this.
- 8:15I am the resurrection and the life.
- 8:19Whoever believes in me, though they die, yet shall they live,
- 8:26And whoever believes in me shall never die.
- 8:32Do you believe this? That's the question.
- 8:38Because if we're going to overcome fear, we have to
- 8:44believe in Jesus. That is put up or shut up time.
- 8:49Martha was summoned to declare. Was she willing to believe and
- 8:53trust Jesus, especially when her fear said there is no hope for
- 9:00her brother and Jesus raised her brother Lazarus from the dead?
- 9:08You see, we can say, yeah, I believe, yeah, I trust.
- 9:14But honestly, it's a crisis that reveals just how much we're
- 9:20truly trusting God or not. You know, few years back, Linda
- 9:29and I, my wife, we were back in North Carolina and we were
- 9:31staying with our daughter and with her husband.
- 9:36Now Cat, real name is Kathleen, but we call her Cat.
- 9:40She was very, very pregnant. And once, you know, a day before
- 9:47their anniversary, she goes into labor.
- 9:52Now her husband Weston is there, Linda is there, her worry wart
- 10:00anxious, driven father is there. Every time my daughter would
- 10:07moan or groan, I was having conniption fits and finally this
- 10:16all happened at their house. Finally, my daughter sent me to
- 10:20bed. She said, Dad, you're making me
- 10:24nervous. So I went upstairs to their
- 10:29guest room and I finally started to do something right.
- 10:33I started praying. I was praying for my daughter.
- 10:37I was praying for myself. I was praying for the rest of
- 10:40us. And I kept praying.
- 10:43I had to choose to trust God. I had to keep up.
- 10:46You know what? I fell asleep.
- 10:50And the next morning I was in the house all by myself.
- 10:54I get this phone call. Beverly has shown up her
- 10:57granddaughter. Boy, that was a piece of cake.
- 11:05But seriously, bottom line is this.
- 11:10We have to either trust God or be trapped by our fears.
- 11:17We cannot do both. Second choice, first choice was
- 11:23to believe in God, trust God. Second choice, choose not to be
- 11:29troubled. You know, this is so important
- 11:33that Jesus actually says this twice.
- 11:36He says it in verse one where He tells his disciples, let not
- 11:41your hearts be troubled. And then he says it again at
- 11:45verse 27, the last verse that we read, Let not your hearts be
- 11:49troubled kind of bookends the whole passage.
- 11:54And the deal is, is that Jesus? The way he's saying this is it's
- 11:58an ongoing command, all right. It's not a one time deal.
- 12:03He's telling them and he's telling us every time you start
- 12:08to lapse into fear, into trouble, let not your hearts be
- 12:12troubled. Stop it now.
- 12:18Now the question is, why were their hearts so troubled?
- 12:26Well, if we go back to chapter 13, there's three reasons why
- 12:32they're troubled, why they're freaking out.
- 12:34First reason, Jesus tells them back in John 13, One of you will
- 12:41betray me. Now we know that it's Judas.
- 12:46Judas Iscariot, they don't know that, but somebody in that room
- 12:55is going to turn traitor. Secondly, Jesus tells us them
- 13:03he's leaving them and he's tells them you can't follow me now.
- 13:10They have followed Jesus for three years at this point and
- 13:14now he's going away. 3rd Peter, the leader of the 12 told Jesus
- 13:24at the end of that chapter that even if everybody else turned
- 13:29away, he would not. And Jesus told him, Peter, you
- 13:33are going to fail me miserably. Before this night is out, you
- 13:39will deny 3 times that you even know me.
- 13:49The disciples were stuck. They were stewing in their
- 13:54troubled hearts, and I wasn't doing them one bit of good.
- 14:02They needed to make and keep making another choice.
- 14:10It's it's like this guys in the Old Testament Israel too, a lot
- 14:14of times kept making the wrong choice, not trusting God, but in
- 14:17choose instead chose to be troubled.
- 14:21So it says this in Isaiah for the Lord God the Holy one of
- 14:25Israel has said you will be delivered by returning and
- 14:30resting. Your strength will be your
- 14:34confidence, but you were not willing.
- 14:41That's really sad. The Lord wanted to help His
- 14:47people, but they kept making the wrong choice.
- 14:54They kept turning away from Him. See, choosing to trust or
- 15:01believe Jesus and not letting our hearts be troubled.
- 15:05It's really not 2 separate things.
- 15:07It's basically two sides of the same coin.
- 15:11They really go together. The issue is this.
- 15:14Will we make the right choice and experience the freedom only
- 15:20trusting Jesus can provide, or will we choose our fears?
- 15:27Take a look at this picture on the screens behind me.
- 15:30This is taken from a movie called The Court Jester.
- 15:34Now, these two Knights are just about ready to fight each other
- 15:39to the death. And the littler knight, All
- 15:43right, you notice he's reaching down and he's picking up a cup.
- 15:47Now, the littler knight, his name is Hubert.
- 15:51He's about ready to poison himself.
- 15:55He knows one of these cups of wine is poisoned and he even
- 16:03learned a little poem to help him to remember which cup to
- 16:08pick and which one not to pick. He was told the pellet with the
- 16:13poisons in the vessel with the pestle.
- 16:15The flagon with the dragon has the brood.
- 16:17That is true. The poor guy still picks up the
- 16:22wrong cup. Likewise, Jesus is telling his
- 16:31disciples and us to stop letting our hearts be troubled.
- 16:38Instead trust His Father and himself.
- 16:44Don't pick up the poison cup. I can't tell you how many times
- 16:52I have picked up that cup knowing it doesn't do a bit of
- 16:59good. As a matter of fact, it's going
- 17:01to harm me. Instead, I have to trust God.
- 17:08So how exactly do we keep our hearts from being overwhelmed
- 17:15when trouble comes? That phone call or text in the
- 17:20middle of the night being told we lost our job?
- 17:27A sudden health crisis? You see, trouble is like an
- 17:32enrolling tide. There's nothing we can do to
- 17:35stop it. It's going to come.
- 17:38So what do we do? The answer is this.
- 17:44We need to focus on Jesus first. Let me show you what that
- 17:53actually looks like. All right, go with me over to
- 17:57Matthew, first book of the New Testament, Matthew chapter 14,
- 18:05Matthew chapter 14. I'm going to start reading at
- 18:09verse 22. All right, Matthew 14, verse 22,
- 18:15immediately He, that's Jesus made his made the disciples get
- 18:21into the boat and go before him to the other side while he
- 18:25dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the
- 18:29crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
- 18:34And when evening came, he was there alone.
- 18:38But the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten
- 18:45by the waves, for the wind was against them.
- 18:48And in the 4th watch, that's between 3:00 in the morning and
- 18:52six in the fourth watch of the night, he came to them walking
- 18:58on the sea. But when the disciples saw him
- 19:02walking on the sea, they were terrified and said it is a
- 19:06ghost. And they cried out in fear.
- 19:10But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, Take heart, it is
- 19:14I do not be afraid. And Peter answered him, Lord, if
- 19:20it is you, command me to come to you on the water.
- 19:25He said, come. So Peter got out of the boat and
- 19:29walked on the water and came to Jesus.
- 19:33But when he saw the wind he was afraid, and beginning to sink.
- 19:38He cried out, Lord, save me. Jesus immediately reached out
- 19:44his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, O you of little
- 19:50faith, why did you doubt? It didn't matter how big those
- 20:00waves were. It didn't matter how fierce the
- 20:06wind was. It didn't matter how terrified
- 20:09the other disciples were. As long as Peter kept his focus
- 20:17on Jesus, he was fine. Likewise, when he took his eyes
- 20:26off of Jesus, started looking at the wind, looking at the massive
- 20:32waves, he began to sink. But we need to notice this.
- 20:38He was still fine because Jesus immediately took hold of his
- 20:44hand. He was totally safe being
- 20:52focused on Jesus. What are we focusing on?
- 21:00Jesus the Almighty Son of God or our troubles and fear that keeps
- 21:06yapping at us like one of those little rat dogs you know you
- 21:13just go away. He is more than enough to handle
- 21:20any fear or whatever it is that we are struggling with.
- 21:26We have to trust and keep our focus on Him.
- 21:32Now, something else that really have helps us out as well when
- 21:35it comes to losing our fears is remembering some very important
- 21:40information, and that is these 4 facts that I'm going to briefly
- 21:43touch on now. All right, so fact #1 going back
- 21:48to John chapter 14, fact number one is this.
- 21:53We lose our fears when we remember and believe.
- 21:57First of all, we have a permanent place.
- 22:01Jesus describes it in verses 2 to 4, where he said in my
- 22:06father's house are many rooms. Now I know the King James says
- 22:10mansions. Sorry, guys, it's rooms.
- 22:13OK, The word there rooms, Monet. It only shows up twice in the
- 22:19Greek New Testament, both times right in this chapter.
- 22:22All right. And Jesus's point is simply
- 22:25this. There is plenty of room for
- 22:27everybody, all right? And it's going to be nice.
- 22:34It's going to be real nice. You want to find out what your
- 22:38permanent home is going to be like, go read the last two
- 22:41chapters of the last book of the Bible, Revelation, chapters 21
- 22:46and 22. It's pretty awesome.
- 22:49OK. Fanciest house I've probably
- 22:51ever been in would be Hearst Castle.
- 22:55Over there on San Simeon, I guess.
- 22:57Yeah. No, it's over there.
- 23:00OK, Let me tell you, Hearst Castle would be like a tar paper
- 23:09shack compared to our Father's house.
- 23:15And you know what? The invitation is out.
- 23:18He is coming for us, He says. So specifically, He is coming
- 23:23for us, for every child of God to take us home to be with him
- 23:29forever. Second fact, we have a perfect
- 23:33path and that's Jesus. Did you notice what Jesus said
- 23:38at the Universe 4? And you know the way to where
- 23:40I'm going? And Thomas bless Thomas the
- 23:45honest, struggling disciple. Thomas is so confused, he blurts
- 23:51out, Lord, we don't know where you're going, how can we know
- 23:56the way? See what Jesus was telling him
- 24:03that he's going away. They know the way it made
- 24:06absolutely no sense. You know when the Lord tells us
- 24:12something and we can't figure it out doesn't seem to make a whole
- 24:16lot of sense. That's especially the time we
- 24:20need to trust him. We need to do what he wants us
- 24:25to do. So couple weeks ago our small
- 24:30group, we went on a tour after church at the Bakersfield
- 24:35Pregnancy Center over on 18th St. and one of the people that
- 24:39took us on that tour was Aaron Rodgers, long time friend of
- 24:42Linda, myself. And Aaron was describing for us
- 24:46something they do called the Teacup Talk.
- 24:50They actually have tea cups available and they will bring
- 24:53out these cups with certain clients that come in.
- 24:56And the whole point of the talk was to demonstrate to the client
- 25:00just how precious they are in the sight of God, made in God's
- 25:06image. So Aaron was talking with this
- 25:10client and boy, she was tough. She was like old shoe leather
- 25:20and this lady's laying out her story and Aaron's listening and
- 25:23talking to her in her office and clears a bell as they were
- 25:28interacting back and forth. Aaron hears this little voice in
- 25:31her hair head teacup. And she thinks I am not doing
- 25:37the teacup thing with this lady. She might, you know, you know,
- 25:41you never know. So she ignores it and they talk,
- 25:46and they're at her interacting some more.
- 25:48And then a second time she hears teacup.
- 25:55Keeps talking. Third time teacup she goes.
- 26:04She gets the cup, she brings it into her office, closes the
- 26:07door, explains how precious this woman is in the sight of God,
- 26:14and the lady breaks down sobbing.
- 26:19Didn't make any sense to Aaron, but she did what God wanted her
- 26:24to do. Thomas, what he's hearing from
- 26:28Jesus is not making any sense. So he asks a question.
- 26:32Where are you going? We don't know the way.
- 26:36You know what? Jesus does not mind at all when
- 26:40we ask him questions. Just need to understand
- 26:43sometimes the answer he's going to give you may not be the
- 26:46answer you want, or he might choose not to answer us at all
- 26:52at that time, but may answer us later.
- 26:54He's God, we're not. But this time, verse 6, Jesus
- 27:02gives him and us a direct answer.
- 27:06I am the way, the truth, and the life.
- 27:10No one comes to the Father except through me.
- 27:15One writer expressed it this way, what Jesus was saying.
- 27:20No one else has seen God or made him known.
- 27:23No one else speaks and embodies the truth as he does.
- 27:27No one else shares the very life of God.
- 27:30No one else can claim to know God while rejecting Jesus, his
- 27:35Son. Jesus is not just the way to
- 27:40God, He is the path that shows us.
- 27:43He shows us how we are supposed to live for God, how we can
- 27:48please and honor God. He gives us direction.
- 27:52He's our guide. All of us at some time have
- 27:58probably used GPS, you know, try to find something.
- 28:01And GPS is wonderful as long as it works.
- 28:07The thing about Jesus though is the Lord Jesus Christ gives us
- 28:12absolute perfect directions and a way to come into the very
- 28:19presence of the Father himself. He makes no mistakes. 3rd fact
- 28:28we need to be aware of we have a permanent partner.
- 28:34Jesus describes him as another helper, another meaning, simply
- 28:40another of the same kind. Just like the Father, just like
- 28:44the Son, so also God. The Holy Spirit is likewise
- 28:48fully and totally God Jesus. In the new excuse me, in the
- 28:57English standard translation, it says that Jesus called the Holy
- 29:02Spirit the Helper. In the Christian standard
- 29:06translation, he's our counselor. In the new living translation,
- 29:11he's our advocate. So which is true?
- 29:16All of them. There is no one single English
- 29:20word for the word Jesus is using Paraclete.
- 29:25It means one who comes alongside, one who was closest,
- 29:30closer to us than anyone else, one who was with us, constantly
- 29:36guiding, directing. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit our
- 29:42teacher. He guides us into a deeper
- 29:44knowledge of God's truth, a never ending, deeper, truthful
- 29:51knowledge of God Himself. You know, smartphones are pretty
- 30:01nice. One of the nice things about
- 30:03smartphones is that you can, we can take them out of our pocket
- 30:06and we want to know something. And so we just talk into the
- 30:09thing, OK, We even have a name for it, right?
- 30:11Googling. Well, The thing is, is when we
- 30:15get that information, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not
- 30:19good. Sometimes, frankly, it's wrong.
- 30:25That's not how it is with the Holy Spirit.
- 30:29The Holy Spirit, He's our helper, counselor, advocate.
- 30:37As we walk with him, we are in a transforming relationship of
- 30:42friendship in which we become more like Jesus.
- 30:48The other thing about Jesus tells us about the Holy Spirit
- 30:51is He's our permanent resident. Once we come to know Jesus as
- 30:56our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes in and he never
- 31:00leaves. He'll be with us through all
- 31:05eternity. The 4th fact In some ways guys,
- 31:09verse 27 is perhaps the most important.
- 31:15We can have perfect peace. People are constantly looking
- 31:24for peace, rest, a sense of calm in the midst of turmoil.
- 31:33But the peace out there, it's transitory, it's elusive.
- 31:38It's a mirage that just keeps disappearing because quite
- 31:43frankly, out there in the world, there is no permanent peace.
- 31:49That's why we're told, but the wicked are like the tossing sea.
- 31:55It cannot be quiet. It's waters toss up mire and
- 31:58dirt. There is no peace, says my God.
- 32:03For the wicked Jesus, peace is totally different, He says.
- 32:11It's not like the world's peace. Jesus peace is the kind of peace
- 32:16that allowed him to sleep blissfully on the cushion of a
- 32:22boat in the middle of Lake Galilee as there was a terrible
- 32:26storm raging and his disciples were freaking out and there's
- 32:31Jesus fast asleep. Jesus peace is the kind of peace
- 32:39that later this same night as he was talking to his disciples in
- 32:44this chapter, later this same night, he will be betrayed, he
- 32:50will be arrested, he will be falsely accused, he will be
- 32:58tortured, crucified. He will also experience what was
- 33:09undoubtedly the most difficult thing the Son of God ever
- 33:14experienced, and that is as the sins of the entire world were
- 33:19placed upon him, the sinless sacrifice his Father for the one
- 33:27and only time God the Father had to turn away from him because
- 33:33God cannot look upon sin. And for that moment, Jesus was
- 33:39completely alone. He cried out, My God, my God,
- 33:46why have you forsaken me? The sacrifices was accepted, the
- 33:55payment was made. And then Jesus, after he had
- 34:00done everything he needed to do, he says it is finished.
- 34:09And then we're told, as his peace returned, he committed his
- 34:12Spirit to his Father, and he chose to die.
- 34:20Even in the midst of terrible things, Jesus still had peace.
- 34:30So how can we experience Jesus's peace, especially when our fears
- 34:39seem to be so overwhelming? We have to do three things.
- 34:44First, we keep our focus on Jesus, not our fears, just as
- 34:52Jesus kept his focus upon fulfilling His Father's will.
- 34:58Many of us, I'm sure, have driven over the Grapevine when
- 35:01there has been a strong wind blowing over that pass.
- 35:06And it can be a little crazy because you could feel the wind
- 35:10pushing against your vehicle, trying to push you off the road.
- 35:14So you plant both hands on the wheel and you hold on.
- 35:21That's exactly what we're talking in this first point.
- 35:25We have to keep our focus on Jesus, not our fears, just as
- 35:32Jesus's focus was upon doing what his Father sent him to do.
- 35:37Secondly, we keep passionately seeking God in prayer no matter
- 35:45what. I'll let you read that verse
- 35:48reference there, Philippians 4-6 and seven, but it's telling us
- 35:55take everything without exception, everything to God in
- 36:00prayer. You ever played whack a mole?
- 36:07Now, for those of you who are maybe not so sophisticated,
- 36:10whack a mole is simply, you know, you're standing in front
- 36:13of this board. It's got all these holes in
- 36:15there, and you have a mallet, all right, And something pops up
- 36:20out of the hole. You know, some little Gopher
- 36:22thing pops up out of the hole, and what are you supposed to do?
- 36:26All right, you're trying to whack the mole.
- 36:28So you whack the mole, and then little critter pops up out
- 36:33another hole. What do you do?
- 36:34You whack the mole. That's the idea.
- 36:38We keep taking every fear, every thought, every anxiety.
- 36:44We keep taking it to God and we keep whacking no matter what.
- 36:53And then we're told that if we'll do that, the peace of God
- 37:00will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
- 37:05The third thing we have to do, we have to seek out the
- 37:09strength, help and love of others in our community.
- 37:15I am so thankful for the guys I can hang with every week in my
- 37:21mentor group, for my small group.
- 37:24I'm thankful for years, Pastor Mark and I have hung out and now
- 37:29he's heading off somewhere. I don't like it.
- 37:32I might let the air out of the tires of his truck.
- 37:36No, I won't. The point is, though, is that we
- 37:44need help. We need help from our brothers
- 37:48and sisters in Christ. We're not meant to face our
- 37:51fears alone, guys. We need that community people to
- 37:55come alongside us, to love us, to encourage us, to support us.
- 38:01That's what we're supposed to do.
- 38:04All right, Our main idea again, Jesus frees us from our fears.
- 38:15Now, maybe you're someone that came to church this morning and
- 38:20you're not sure about the things that I've been telling you
- 38:24about. Maybe you're somebody who would
- 38:26say, no, I'm not really a Christian, but I, I just wanted
- 38:29to check this out. I wanted to find out what was
- 38:31going on here. Well, first of all, let me tell
- 38:34you, I'm glad you're here. We're glad you're here.
- 38:39But I need to also tell you this.
- 38:42The freedom from fear that Jesus offers, the peace he provides,
- 38:50You have not experienced it because you don't know him, but
- 38:57you absolutely can see. Receiving Jesus alone is when we
- 39:08make a decision to allow Jesus into our heart and life to be
- 39:15make him our Savior and Lord, to ask Him to cleanse us of the
- 39:20sins that prevent us from having a relationship with God.
- 39:26It's the new beginning. The Bible says that when someone
- 39:30does this, they are a new creation in Christ.
- 39:34All that old stuff is gone. The new has come.
- 39:40So if you would like to have that relationship with Jesus, in
- 39:48just a moment, I'm going to lead us in a prayer.
- 39:52And if that's where you're at, you want to know Jesus, I would
- 39:55invite you to pray this with me. Can I ask everybody to go ahead?
- 39:59Bow your heads. close your eyes. So there's no distraction.
- 40:05If you want to know Jesus, either pray out loud or in your
- 40:09heart with me, Jesus. I want a relationship with you.
- 40:19I want to know you as my Savior, as my Lord.
- 40:27I ask you, Jesus, to take away my sin, to give me a new life.
- 40:39Thank you Jesus for your love. Thank you Jesus, for your
- 40:45salvation. Now, if you prayed that prayer,
- 40:52would you just be willing to raise your hands so I could see
- 40:55you? You may put your hands down.
- 41:00Thank you in Jesus name, Amen. Can I ask everybody to go ahead
- 41:08and stand please if you prayed with me just now and ask Jesus
- 41:19to enter your heart and life. Welcome to the family.
- 41:28You just made the best decision you're ever going to make.
- 41:34In a little while, our service is going to be finished.
- 41:36But before our service finishes, I would strongly encourage you.
- 41:42We have over here a table over here, another table that says
- 41:45behind it. I raised my hand.
- 41:48Please go back there. We'll have people there.
- 41:51We'd love to help you. We have things a gift for you.
- 41:55We would love to help you in your new walk with our Savior
- 42:01and Lord Jesus. Now Christians, we have all
- 42:08struggled with fear. The question for us is this, are
- 42:15we willing to come to Jesus and passionately seek Him for the
- 42:23strength and healing that only He can provide?
- 42:28If that's your desire to seek Him out, to be set free from
- 42:35fear and anxieties and to keep seeking them out as those fear
- 42:38and anxieties come back, why don't we?
- 42:42You let us help you, help us help you, maybe by praying
- 42:50together with you right now, maybe by opening up and sharing
- 42:55with other Christian brothers and sisters.
- 42:58No one has to do this battle alone.
- 43:01We have a great Lord, but we also have brothers and sisters
- 43:05in Christ. I'm going to invite the prayer
- 43:08team to come forward now. If you would like prayer for
- 43:13help or if you want prayer for something else, you come
- 43:18forward. We want to pray with you.
- 43:21We want to encourage you. We want to see you grow in your
- 43:27trust and in your walk with Jesus.
