- 1:43Speaker 8: You probably got to turn mouth.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Out, turn the water, then up looking.
- 1:55Speaker 8: Come.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Come out your b.
- 2:01Speaker 3: A I sure will. Good morning everybody. You are listening
- 2:05Speaker 3: to the voice, come on dig me now, one and
- 2:07Speaker 3: only Steve Harvey got a radio show. Man, oh man,
- 2:13Speaker 3: oh man.
- 2:15Speaker 2: You know what y'all.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I mean, really, the goodness of God is overwhelming if
- 2:19Speaker 3: you think about it, I mean, really really think about it,
- 2:24Speaker 3: even when your circumstance doesn't look so bright, even when
- 2:29Speaker 3: you're going through something that's causing you discomfort, pain, Even
- 2:35Speaker 3: in that, God's goodness is actually overwhelming because don't forget
- 2:43Speaker 3: why you're going through this moment. First of all, this
- 2:47Speaker 3: too shall pass, but also secondly, remember man, ain't everything
- 2:52Speaker 3: else that you've gone through that seems so insurmountable at
- 2:56Speaker 3: the time, didn't you get past that too? I mean,
- 3:01Speaker 3: it's amazing. If you really think about it, you don't
- 3:04Speaker 3: get stuck on any one issue your whole life. The
- 3:08Speaker 3: only people that get stuck on an issue they whole
- 3:12Speaker 3: life is people who won't let it go. That's really
- 3:15Speaker 3: all it is. There are people who exist, and you
- 3:19Speaker 3: may be one of them. Oh please know, I've been
- 3:22Speaker 3: guilty of it myself before, but I learned something. There
- 3:25Speaker 3: are things in my past that I just would not
- 3:29Speaker 3: let go of. It was done, it was over with.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I was past it, but I I would not let.
- 3:37Speaker 8: Go of it.
- 3:38Speaker 3: It was over. The dude that did it to me
- 3:41Speaker 3: didn't exist no more. The problem that it created didn't
- 3:44Speaker 3: exist no more. The only problem that kept hanging on
- 3:47Speaker 3: was I would not let it go. And man, you
- 3:52Speaker 3: can't go forward if you're gonna keep looking in the past.
- 3:56Speaker 3: It's an impossible thing. It's like driving a car. If
- 4:00Speaker 3: you keep looking only in the rearview mirror while you're driving,
- 4:04Speaker 3: you're going to crash pretty soon. And a lot of
- 4:07Speaker 3: people just keep crashing over and over and over and
- 4:11Speaker 3: over because you won't drive your car. You keep looking
- 4:15Speaker 3: in the real view mirror at the past. Oh woe
- 4:19Speaker 3: is me? Oh you know they did me like that.
- 4:22Speaker 3: You know I ain't been the same since he cheated
- 4:24Speaker 3: on me. Oh man, ever since she stole my money,
- 4:27Speaker 3: I ain't been the same man she played me, and
- 4:30Speaker 3: every since that I done treated women differently. You may
- 4:33Speaker 3: have some deeper stuff going on, but eventually, guess what,
- 4:37Speaker 3: do you understand that when you have a relationship God
- 4:40Speaker 3: with God, you can take that to him too and
- 4:44Speaker 3: drop it off and leave it there. Do you know
- 4:47Speaker 3: that He can fix and heal that. Maybe it's something
- 4:51Speaker 3: serious like that that you need fixing or healing from,
- 4:54Speaker 3: a relationship with God can fix and heal that. But man,
- 5:00Speaker 3: come on, y'all, whatever it is, and I'm not trying
- 5:03Speaker 3: to downplay it or make it act like it wasn't
- 5:06Speaker 3: traumatic in your life, because oh God, you don't want to.
- 5:09Speaker 3: You know, you don't want nobody to do that to
- 5:10Speaker 3: you because you wanna be the you know, the post
- 5:14Speaker 3: a child for misery. So please don't let me take
- 5:17Speaker 3: that from you. If that's your position, that's your hall
- 5:20Speaker 3: of fame card you're hanging on to. I'm the poster
- 5:24Speaker 3: child for misery. Oh no one is more woe than
- 5:27Speaker 3: me than Please don't let Steve try to take that
- 5:30Speaker 3: from you. You go ahead and hang on to that,
- 5:33Speaker 3: But let me tell you something though. If that's what
- 5:36Speaker 3: you're gonna hang on to, that's what you're gonna always
- 5:38Speaker 3: be the poster child for misery. At one point in time,
- 5:41Speaker 3: you're gonna have to get on and move past it. Sometimes, man,
- 5:45Speaker 3: it's merely a simple thing of taking it to God
- 5:48Speaker 3: and leaving it there. You know, some people don't have
- 5:51Speaker 3: money for therapy. Some people don't even know who to
- 5:54Speaker 3: call for therapy. God is the best psychologist in the world.
- 5:59Speaker 3: He can fix it for you. There is nothing too
- 6:02Speaker 3: hard for God. You know when something seems impossible, y'all,
- 6:07Speaker 3: God does the impossible all the time every day. You
- 6:10Speaker 3: won't know how I know.
- 6:12Speaker 9: I just look at a couple basic things. Do you
- 6:15Speaker 9: know that that sun comes up every day in the morning.
- 6:17Speaker 9: It comes up in the east and it sets in
- 6:19Speaker 9: the west. You can't do nothing about that. All you
- 6:23Speaker 9: can you can wish, because you plant your flowers on
- 6:26Speaker 9: a certain side.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Of your house. You can wish all you want. Then
- 6:29Speaker 3: maybe one day he would bring it up out the
- 6:31Speaker 3: northwest so those flowers would no Now it's gonna come
- 6:34Speaker 3: up out the east, and once the sun hits the
- 6:38Speaker 3: horizon when you look in the water, like if you
- 6:40Speaker 3: ever out in La and you see the sun going down.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Once the sun once you can visually see the sun
- 6:46Speaker 3: touching the horizon, you have three minutes. You have exactly
- 6:51Speaker 3: three minutes. You can sit there with your watch, you
- 6:52Speaker 3: can time. Yeah, three minutes and it's gone. Three minutes
- 6:57Speaker 3: is gone. I read that somewhere and then I went
- 7:00Speaker 3: and tried it. It's gone every day if it's clear enough,
- 7:04Speaker 3: not cloudy. Once the sun touches the horizon. On water,
- 7:09Speaker 3: you got three minutes. When the wind blows, you can't
- 7:12Speaker 3: do nothing about it. He can bring it from the northeast,
- 7:16Speaker 3: he can bring it from the west, he can bring
- 7:17Speaker 3: from south. He can bring it hard, he can bring
- 7:19Speaker 3: it cool, he can bring it hot. It's certain things
- 7:22Speaker 3: that God does the impossible all the time. How those
- 7:26Speaker 3: stars sitting up there, How can you find these constellations?
- 7:30Speaker 3: The big dipp of the Little Dipper, Ryan the Hunter, Oh,
- 7:33Speaker 3: that's God. God. Ain't nothing you can do about it.
- 7:35Speaker 3: You can't reach them stars, you can't shoot at them,
- 7:38Speaker 3: you can't move them out the way. Or Ryan the
- 7:40Speaker 3: Hunter's belt, there's gonna beat them three stars out of ankle.
- 7:43Speaker 3: You can call it what you want to call it.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Still that's what it is. See, He does the impossible
- 7:48Speaker 3: all the time. He created heaven and earth. You're saying
- 7:52Speaker 3: that God can't get you through your past. Somebody did
- 7:56Speaker 3: this to me. It's the worst thing I had, the
- 7:58Speaker 3: worst childhood of it. God can't get you past that.
- 8:02Speaker 3: He can move Heaven, mountains, Earth, he can form the
- 8:06Speaker 3: Grand Canyon, he can make the water come over Niagara
- 8:09Speaker 3: Falls twenty four seven. He can't fix yo little bitty
- 8:14Speaker 3: past yours. It's amazing how people make their problems bigger
- 8:19Speaker 3: than God. Somebody told me one time, stop telling God
- 8:24Speaker 3: how big your problems are, and start telling your problems
- 8:29Speaker 3: how big God is, and go on with your life.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Quit driving your car looking in the rear view mirror.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Ain't nothing back there but your past. And if it
- 8:40Speaker 3: was hurtful or painful, or something you just felt like
- 8:43Speaker 3: you can't get over, take your problems to God.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And leave them there.
- 8:47Speaker 3: You hear the old spiritual all you've heard it, Take
- 8:49Speaker 3: your birdens to the Lord, leave them Yeah, all the time.
- 8:53Speaker 3: But you think that applies to everyone, But you come on, man,
- 8:58Speaker 3: A lot of people out there going through much worse
- 9:00Speaker 3: than you have and have overcome it all. Why won't
- 9:04Speaker 3: you take the step to overcome your past so you
- 9:07Speaker 3: can get on with driving your car and see what
- 9:09Speaker 3: God trying to take you. But it's a trick of
- 9:11Speaker 3: the enemy. The enemy tricks you from seeing your future
- 9:15Speaker 3: by having you constantly looking in your past. Man, it's
- 9:19Speaker 3: a trick of the devil. If the devil just let
- 9:21Speaker 3: you quit, if he would just let you get to
- 9:24Speaker 3: drive in your car, look out into your future. Your
- 9:27Speaker 3: future shows hopefulness. You have hope when you see the future.
- 9:33Speaker 3: But he can keep you in misery if he keep
- 9:35Speaker 3: you looking at your miserable past. God looking for you, man,
- 9:40Speaker 3: God would love to hear from you. Let's spend some
- 9:43Speaker 3: time talking to God today. Hey God, what's happening. It's me.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I know I ain't talk to you in a while,
- 9:49Speaker 3: but feel bad about that. But I need you. He
- 9:53Speaker 3: know that. Everybody should say that prayer all the time.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It's cool, all right, you're listening, ladies and gentlemen, boys
- 10:04Speaker 3: and girls. Let me have you undivided attention. It's a
- 10:07Speaker 3: special day to day. God has given us another gift
- 10:10Speaker 3: another Martin Luther King holiday. We hear Ford. We was
- 10:14Speaker 3: here last year and the year before that. I'm so
- 10:17Speaker 3: glad I live to see another one man one of
- 10:20Speaker 3: the greatest leaders of our time. We celebrate him today,
- 10:24Speaker 3: one of the truly greatest leaders we've ever had. He's
- 10:28Speaker 3: done more for us in terms of rights and positions
- 10:31Speaker 3: and awareness than any other leader we've ever had in
- 10:35Speaker 3: terms of the civil rights movement and for us as
- 10:38Speaker 3: black people. In my opinion, there are others, and I'm
- 10:42Speaker 3: not shading them at all because we need a whole
- 10:44Speaker 3: collective effort. But Martin Luther King, hats off to you,
- 10:48Speaker 3: my brother, Thank you so much. This is the Steve
- 10:51Speaker 3: Harvy Morning Show. We grateful today, Shirley Strawberry, Colin for Real, Mississippi,
- 10:55Speaker 3: Monica Junior, and the legend that is Nephew Tommy got
- 10:59Speaker 3: a great They lined up for you today. You know,
- 11:01Speaker 3: we're gonna do all of the traditional stuff because some things,
- 11:05Speaker 3: you know, we don't need to forget. We just need
- 11:07Speaker 3: to be reminded.
- 11:08Speaker 5: That's right.
- 11:10Speaker 2: You know, we only got one holiday.
- 11:12Speaker 3: That's that's really I don't any other black people got
- 11:16Speaker 3: national Hold Jim, Team Jim.
- 11:19Speaker 4: We're gonna hear some of doctor King's most famous speeches.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Of course, the most.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Famous one the I have a dream speech.
- 11:25Speaker 4: We're gonna celebrate, We're gonna discuss Doctor King's legacy of peace.
- 11:30Speaker 4: So all morning long, we're gonna talk about social injustice,
- 11:34Speaker 4: community service.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And the importance of voting. Of course, in this an
- 11:38Speaker 1: election year, we've got.
- 11:40Speaker 3: To vote this year, y'all, listen to me. I got.
- 11:44Speaker 3: We don't have purely perfect candidates, but we clearly have
- 11:49Speaker 3: one that ain't got no business being president of no
- 11:52Speaker 3: kind of country. And that's the Republican option that they
- 11:56Speaker 3: keep trying to present to us as okay, and his
- 11:58Speaker 3: name is Donald Trump. You've got to be kidding me, now,
- 12:01Speaker 3: I got. You may not be happy with the current
- 12:04Speaker 3: of administration, but understand what they're up against. Now, we
- 12:08Speaker 3: still got to go through the House and the Senate
- 12:09Speaker 3: to pass bills. And you know, the opposition is real,
- 12:12Speaker 3: and that one job doing any election your time, is
- 12:16Speaker 3: to make the other party look as bad as they
- 12:17Speaker 3: possibly can, so they stop all this ignorant foolishness about
- 12:21Speaker 3: you not voting for them, because this because if you
- 12:24Speaker 3: don't vote for them, it's to vote for Donald Trump.
- 12:27Speaker 3: And if you put Donald Trump in office again, he
- 12:30Speaker 3: finished show you something. He showed you something last time.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I don't know how you something believe, you know, man,
- 12:36Speaker 3: when you start banning Muslim countries, when you start talking
- 12:39Speaker 3: about closing that border, when you start talking about these
- 12:43Speaker 3: abortion rights and all this His stuff right here, man,
- 12:47Speaker 3: then that stuff you talking about they ain't got nothing
- 12:49Speaker 3: to do with the Lord. Y'all keep masking this as
- 12:53Speaker 3: a religious reason, But that ain't got nothing to do
- 12:55Speaker 3: with God. You know. You know that they talking about
- 12:58Speaker 3: passing a bill where if you have an abortion, you
- 13:01Speaker 3: get the death penalty. Do you know that they're discussing that, y'all?
- 13:07Speaker 3: Do you know how dangerous that is? See, first of all,
- 13:09Speaker 3: how can you be pro life and be talking about
- 13:12Speaker 3: the death penalty? Make your mind up? Now you got
- 13:15Speaker 3: to care about the unborn and the born if you're
- 13:17Speaker 3: gonna be pro life, make up your mind.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And after they grow up.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Yeah, so yeah, that's what we'll be discussing all morning.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Doctor King's message went beyond racism. You also talked about stereotypes.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Poverty, privilege. Doctor King was a courageous leader of all people.
- 13:38Speaker 4: So we say to you, Happy King Day, and coming
- 13:41Speaker 4: up more of the Steve Harvey Morning Show on this
- 13:44Speaker 4: King Holiday.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Right after this you're listening Harvey Morning Show right now.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Here's the drum major stick speech on the Steve Harvey
- 13:53Speaker 3: Morning Show.
- 13:53Speaker 2: And instinct. It's a kind of drum major instinct.
- 13:57Speaker 8: A desire to be out front, a desire to lead
- 14:01Speaker 8: the parade, a desire to be first. It is something
- 14:07Speaker 8: that runs a whole gamut of life.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And so before we.
- 14:13Speaker 8: Condemn them, let us see that we all have the
- 14:16Speaker 8: drum mate instinct.
- 14:19Speaker 3: We all want to be.
- 14:21Speaker 8: Important, to surpass others, to achieve distinction, to lead the parade.
- 14:31Speaker 8: Alfred Adler the Great, a psychoanalyst, contends that this is
- 14:36Speaker 8: the dominant impulse. Sigmund Fraud used to contend that sex
- 14:42Speaker 8: was the dominant impulse, and Adler came with a new argument,
- 14:46Speaker 8: saying that this quest for recognition, this desire for attention,
- 14:53Speaker 8: this desire for distinction, is the basic impulse, the basic
- 15:01Speaker 8: drive of human human life, this drum major instinct. And
- 15:08Speaker 8: you know we begin earlier to ask life to put
- 15:11Speaker 8: us first. Our first cry as a baby was a
- 15:18Speaker 8: bid for attention, and all through childhood the drum major
- 15:25Speaker 8: impulse are instinct is a major obsession. Children ask life
- 15:34Speaker 8: to grant them first place they are a little bundle
- 15:40Speaker 8: of ego they have innately the drum major instinct. Now
- 15:51Speaker 8: an adult life, we still have it, and we really
- 15:55Speaker 8: never forget by it. We like to do something good,
- 16:01Speaker 8: and you know, we like to be praised for it. Now,
- 16:05Speaker 8: if you don't believe that, you just go on living life,
- 16:10Speaker 8: and you will discover very soon that you like to
- 16:13Speaker 8: be praised.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Everybody likes it as a matter of fact.
- 16:20Speaker 8: And somehow this warm glow we feel when we are
- 16:23Speaker 8: praised or when our name is in print, is something
- 16:29Speaker 8: of the vitamin aid to our ego. Nobody is unhappy
- 16:36Speaker 8: when they are praised, even if they.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Know they don't deserve it, and even if they don't
- 16:41Speaker 2: believe it.
- 16:43Speaker 8: The only unhappy people about praise is when that praise
- 16:47Speaker 8: is going too much towards somebody else. But everybody likes
- 16:52Speaker 8: to be praised because of this real drum major instinct.
- 17:00Speaker 8: Do you know that a lot of the race problem
- 17:03Speaker 8: grows out of the drum major instinct? A need that
- 17:08Speaker 8: some people have to feel superior, A need that some
- 17:15Speaker 8: people have to feel that they are first, and to
- 17:19Speaker 8: feel that their white skin ordain them to be first.
- 17:25Speaker 8: Let's explain that they.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Have said over and over the game in ways that
- 17:33Speaker 2: we see with our own eyes.
- 17:36Speaker 8: In fact, not too long ago, a man down in
- 17:39Speaker 8: Mississippi said that God was a charter member of the
- 17:44Speaker 8: White Citizens' Council. And so God being the charter member
- 17:50Speaker 8: means that everybody who's in that has a kind of divinity,
- 17:55Speaker 8: a kind of superiority. And think of what has happened
- 17:59Speaker 8: in history as a result of this perverted use of
- 18:04Speaker 8: the drummage instinct led to the most tragic prejudice, the
- 18:09Speaker 8: most tragic expressions of man's.
- 18:12Speaker 2: In humanity to man.
- 18:15Speaker 8: And not only does this thing go into the racial struggle,
- 18:20Speaker 8: goes into the struggle between nations. And I would submit
- 18:25Speaker 8: to you this morning that what is wrong in the
- 18:28Speaker 8: world today is that the nations of the world engaged
- 18:30Speaker 8: in a bitter, colossal contest for supremacy, and some doesn't
- 18:37Speaker 8: have them to stop this trend. I'm sorely afraid that
- 18:42Speaker 8: we won't be here to talk about Jesus Christ and
- 18:45Speaker 8: about God and about brotherhood two mini more years. Is
- 18:51Speaker 8: somebody done bringing in to this suicidal thrust that we
- 18:56Speaker 8: see in the world today, None of us.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Are gonna be around because.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Somebody is gonna make the mistake through our senseless blunderings,
- 19:07Speaker 8: of dropping a nuclear bomb somewhere and then another one
- 19:10Speaker 8: is gonna drop. And don't let anybody fool you. This
- 19:15Speaker 8: can happen within a matter of seconds. They have twenty
- 19:19Speaker 8: megaton bombs in Russia right now that can destroy a
- 19:23Speaker 8: city as big as New York in three seconds, with
- 19:26Speaker 8: everybody wiped away in every building. And we can do
- 19:29Speaker 8: the same thing to Russian China. But this is why
- 19:32Speaker 8: we are drifted, and we are drifting now because nations
- 19:36Speaker 8: are caught up with the drum major instinct.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I must be first, I must be supreme all. A
- 19:43Speaker 2: nation must rule the world.
- 19:45Speaker 8: And I am sad to say that the nation in
- 19:49Speaker 8: which we live is the supreme culprit. I'm gonna continue
- 19:54Speaker 8: to say it to America because I love.
- 19:57Speaker 2: This country too much to see the risk that it
- 20:00Speaker 2: has taken.
- 20:02Speaker 8: God didn't call America to do what she's doing in
- 20:05Speaker 8: the world now. God didn't call America to engage in
- 20:10Speaker 8: a senseless, unjust war as a war in Vietnam, and
- 20:16Speaker 8: we are criminals in that war.
- 20:17Speaker 2: We have committed more war crimes almost than any nation
- 20:20Speaker 2: in the world. And I'm going to continue to say it,
- 20:23Speaker 2: and we won't.
- 20:24Speaker 8: Stop it because of our pride and ourgan sells the nation.
- 20:29Speaker 2: But God has a way of even putting nations in
- 20:32Speaker 2: that place.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You're listening hard morning show, and so.
- 20:40Speaker 8: God being the child a member means that everybody who's
- 20:44Speaker 8: in that has a kind of divinity, a kind of superiority.
- 20:49Speaker 8: And think of what has happened in historism as a
- 20:52Speaker 8: result of this perverted use of the drummage instincts led
- 20:59Speaker 8: to the most tragic prejudice, the most tragic expressions of man's.
- 21:04Speaker 2: In humanity to man.
- 21:07Speaker 8: And not only does this thing go into the racial struggle,
- 21:12Speaker 8: it goes into the struggle between nations. And I would
- 21:17Speaker 8: submit to you this morning that what is wrong in
- 21:20Speaker 8: the world today is that the nations of the world
- 21:22Speaker 8: engaged in a bitter, colossal contest for supremacy. And if
- 21:28Speaker 8: some doesn't have them to stop this trend, I'm sorely
- 21:32Speaker 8: afraid that we won't be here to talk about Jesus
- 21:37Speaker 8: Christ and about God and about brotherhood too minimal years.
- 21:44Speaker 8: If somebody donet bringing in to this suicidal thrust that
- 21:49Speaker 8: we see.
- 21:49Speaker 2: In the world today, none of us are going to
- 21:54Speaker 2: be around because.
- 21:55Speaker 8: Somebody is going to make the mistake through our senseless blundering,
- 22:00Speaker 8: of dropping a nuclear bomb somewhere, and then another one
- 22:03Speaker 8: is gonna drop. And don't let anybody fool you. Oh,
- 22:08Speaker 8: this can happen within a matter of seconds. They have
- 22:12Speaker 8: twenty megaton bombs in Russia right now that can destroy
- 22:16Speaker 8: a city as big as New York in three seconds,
- 22:19Speaker 8: with everybody right away in every building.
- 22:22Speaker 2: And we can do the same thing to Russian China.
- 22:24Speaker 2: But this is why we are drifted, and we are
- 22:26Speaker 2: drifting there.
- 22:28Speaker 8: Because nations are caught up with the drum major instinct.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I must be first, I must be supreme all. A
- 22:36Speaker 2: nation must rule the world.
- 22:39Speaker 8: And I am sad to say that the nation in
- 22:42Speaker 8: which we live is the supreme culprit. Now I'm gonna
- 22:47Speaker 8: continue to say it to America because I love this
- 22:51Speaker 8: country too much to see the drift that.
- 22:54Speaker 2: It has taken.
- 22:56Speaker 8: God didn't call America to do what she's doing in
- 22:59Speaker 8: the world, Richie. God didn't call America to engage in
- 23:04Speaker 8: a senseless, unjust war as a war in Vietnam, and
- 23:09Speaker 8: we are criminals in that war. We have committed more
- 23:12Speaker 8: war crimes almost than any nation in the world, and
- 23:15Speaker 8: I'm going to continue to say it, and we won't
- 23:18Speaker 8: stop it because of our pride. And I reconcis a nation.
- 23:23Speaker 8: But God has a way of even putting nations in
- 23:26Speaker 8: that place. The God that I worship has a way
- 23:30Speaker 8: of saying, don't play with me.
- 23:35Speaker 2: He has a way of saying. He's a god of
- 23:38Speaker 2: the Old Testament used to say the Hebrews.
- 23:42Speaker 8: Don't play with me, Israel. Don't play with me, Babylon,
- 23:48Speaker 8: be stealing.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Know that I'm God.
- 23:52Speaker 2: If you don't stop your reckless cross our rise up.
- 23:55Speaker 8: And break the backbone of your power, that can happen
- 24:01Speaker 8: to America. Every nine then I go back and read
- 24:04Speaker 8: Gibbons Decline and fall of the Roman Empire.
- 24:08Speaker 2: And when I come and look.
- 24:09Speaker 8: At America, I say to myself, the parallels are frightening.
- 24:15Speaker 8: We have perverted the drum maid's instinct. Every nine and then,
- 24:22Speaker 8: I guess we all think realistically, yes, about that day
- 24:28Speaker 8: when we will be victimized with what is life's final
- 24:33Speaker 8: common denominator. That's something we call death. We all think
- 24:42Speaker 8: about it. And every nine and then I think about
- 24:45Speaker 8: my own death, and I think about my own funeral,
- 24:48Speaker 8: and I don't think of it in a morbid sense.
- 24:52Speaker 8: Every nine then I ask myself, what is it that
- 24:56Speaker 8: I would want say? And I leave the word to
- 25:00Speaker 8: you this morning. Get any of you around when I
- 25:05Speaker 8: have to meet my day. I don't want a long funeral.
- 25:11Speaker 2: And if you get somebody to deliver the unager, tell
- 25:14Speaker 2: him not to talk to now.
- 25:16Speaker 8: And every nine and then I wonder, well I want
- 25:19Speaker 8: them to say.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Tell them not to mention that I have a nobel
- 25:22Speaker 2: peace pride. That isn't important.
- 25:25Speaker 8: Tell them not to mention that I have three or
- 25:27Speaker 8: four hundred other awards, that's not important.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Tell them not to mention where I went to school.
- 25:34Speaker 8: I like somebody to mention that day, then Martin Luther
- 25:38Speaker 8: King Junior tried to give his life serving others. I'd
- 25:44Speaker 8: like for somebody to say that day that Martin Luther
- 25:47Speaker 8: King Junior tried to live. Somebody, I want you to
- 25:51Speaker 8: say that day that I tried to be right on
- 25:54Speaker 8: the wall question.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I want you to be able to say that day
- 25:59Speaker 2: that I did try to feed the Humerab.
- 26:03Speaker 8: I want you to be able to say that day
- 26:05Speaker 8: that I did try in my life to call those
- 26:09Speaker 8: who were neked. I want you to say on that
- 26:12Speaker 8: day that I did trial in my life to visit
- 26:15Speaker 8: those who were imprisoned.
- 26:17Speaker 2: I want you to say that I tried to love
- 26:21Speaker 2: and serve humanity.
- 26:24Speaker 8: Yes, if you want to say that I was a
- 26:26Speaker 8: drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice,
- 26:30Speaker 8: Say that I was a drum major for peace. I
- 26:34Speaker 8: was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the
- 26:37Speaker 8: other shallow things will nothing matter. I won't have any
- 26:42Speaker 8: money to leave behind, I won't have the fine and
- 26:47Speaker 8: luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just
- 26:50Speaker 8: want to leave or committed life behind, and that's all
- 26:54Speaker 8: I want to say.
- 26:55Speaker 2: If I can help somebody.
- 26:58Speaker 8: As I pass along, if I can share somebody with
- 27:02Speaker 8: a word a song, if I can show somebody he's
- 27:06Speaker 8: traveling wrong, then my living will.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Not be invaded.
- 27:11Speaker 8: If I can do my duty as a Christian art,
- 27:14Speaker 8: if I can bring salvation to a wall who once wrong,
- 27:18Speaker 8: if I can spread the message as the master Taut,
- 27:23Speaker 8: then my living will not be invaded.
- 27:27Speaker 1: You're listening Hard Morning Show.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Today's MLK Day. It is a day of service. Reverend
- 27:36Speaker 4: Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior devoted his life to service
- 27:40Speaker 4: and fighting for civil rights and freedom. Doctor King had
- 27:43Speaker 4: a pursuit for racial, social and economic justice, and Steve,
- 27:48Speaker 4: I got to ask you this question. You know, you
- 27:51Speaker 4: talk about this a lot. You talked about it earlier
- 27:53Speaker 4: this morning. You've been through a lot growing up. So
- 27:57Speaker 4: how have you learned to deal with racism? How have
- 28:00Speaker 4: you dealt with it?
- 28:02Speaker 3: I mean, look, I mean pretty much like most people.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I mean, I'm angry about it. I don't I don't
- 28:10Speaker 3: understand what's taking so long. It just it doesn't make
- 28:14Speaker 3: any sense to me. It's it's actually pathetic. Why is
- 28:19Speaker 3: it that people of color are still asking for equality,
- 28:23Speaker 3: which seems like we're asking it from from somebody that's
- 28:28Speaker 3: not willing to give it. I mean, it's just obviously
- 28:32Speaker 3: that there are people who are set in their ways,
- 28:35Speaker 3: and it's frustrating. Now we Even with that said, I
- 28:40Speaker 3: have devoted myself to being the best person that I
- 28:44Speaker 3: can be, to elevate myself as high as I can,
- 28:47Speaker 3: but not only elevate myself, stick my hand back down
- 28:51Speaker 3: the wall and bring up as many people as I can,
- 28:54Speaker 3: thus my foundation, thus my ranch, thus me trying to
- 28:58Speaker 3: promote young people, thus helping people. I'm constantly looking for
- 29:04Speaker 3: ways to uplift the the the oppressed, the downtrodden people,
- 29:10Speaker 3: and and and that carries over into all people too.
- 29:14Speaker 3: And that's what's been crazy about it.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Man.
- 29:17Speaker 3: I'm willing to help all people. Now, do I have
- 29:21Speaker 3: a special affinity and do I target mostly uh, people
- 29:26Speaker 3: of color? Yeah? Yeah, I do that. And I was
- 29:29Speaker 3: talking to one guy one day and he said, well,
- 29:32Speaker 3: how can you just target them? I said, well, that's
- 29:35Speaker 3: where I see the most need. I see the most
- 29:39Speaker 3: need in people of color and oppressed people. So I'm
- 29:43Speaker 3: targeting my efforts. I said, you know, look, it's all
- 29:47Speaker 3: types of people come to the camp. Anybody can come
- 29:50Speaker 3: to the camp here. Asians are oppressed, they walcome at
- 29:53Speaker 3: the camp. All Latinos come to my camp. They were
- 29:56Speaker 3: I got white kids come to the camp. Yeah, you know,
- 30:00Speaker 3: I got all of them.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Diversity.
- 30:03Speaker 3: But you know, you can't get mad at me because
- 30:08Speaker 3: I know where the greater need is and I can
- 30:10Speaker 3: see it more obviously, and it's my obligation because if
- 30:16Speaker 3: the government not gonna do it, and they're trying to
- 30:19Speaker 3: cut state funding and they're not gonna do it, well,
- 30:22Speaker 3: let's just look at this right here. For example, let's
- 30:25Speaker 3: just look at the education disparity in this country. Why
- 30:28Speaker 3: do we have an educational disparity? Because the money on
- 30:32Speaker 3: the federal level that we pay in taxes and we
- 30:35Speaker 3: pay state taxes, local taxes, it all goes into a fund. Now,
- 30:39Speaker 3: the areas that pay the most funds into the state
- 30:44Speaker 3: taxes or the federal taxes are the places that receive
- 30:48Speaker 3: the most money back. Poor places are not gonna have
- 30:52Speaker 3: as big a pool to pick from, so poor places
- 30:55Speaker 3: stay behind the eight ball. It's the system, they say up. See,
- 31:01Speaker 3: they set that system up, not me. So what should
- 31:06Speaker 3: be happening is we should as a country make sure
- 31:09Speaker 3: that all people have access to a quality education and
- 31:13Speaker 3: a free education. And that ain't the American way. That
- 31:17Speaker 3: ain't the American way. But that's why we're losing education
- 31:21Speaker 3: wise on the global level because other countries they don't.
- 31:26Speaker 3: They don't do it that way. We should all be
- 31:29Speaker 3: able to we make enough money in this country where
- 31:30Speaker 3: everybody should get free medical there's a business we don't
- 31:35Speaker 3: get that right. But this is the system they set up,
- 31:41Speaker 3: and the system is not set up and targeted for
- 31:44Speaker 3: the underprivileged or the oppressed.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Or the less fortunate. That's right, Steve so it's not set.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Up that way. So my obligation and my foundation is
- 31:53Speaker 3: for the less fortunate, the oppressed, the down trod, and
- 31:58Speaker 3: I go out of my way to see that that happens.
- 32:00Speaker 3: But you know we're gonna win. It's just sad that
- 32:04Speaker 3: it's taken so damn long. And is it pisses you off?
- 32:08Speaker 3: And I would say this to anybody who is not
- 32:12Speaker 3: of color? How long would you like to wait to
- 32:18Speaker 3: be treated equal? How much time you want to devote
- 32:24Speaker 3: to same treatment, equal pay, faanness in housing? How would
- 32:30Speaker 3: you like it if every time you cut on the
- 32:33Speaker 3: news the police was shooting somebody who looked like you?
- 32:38Speaker 3: How long? How long you want us to wait? I mean,
- 32:41Speaker 3: I'm listening, it can't be much. And I don't know
- 32:44Speaker 3: the white lady's name that ask that famous question to
- 32:47Speaker 3: a room full of white people who in here would
- 32:50Speaker 3: be willing to trade places with black people? Who was that?
- 32:54Speaker 1: Jane Elliott? Yeah, Jane, I think so, Jane Elliott.
- 33:00Speaker 3: And she says, because you know that they are being
- 33:04Speaker 3: treated unfairly, but nobody's doing anything about it. So we
- 33:09Speaker 3: have to do it ourselves. We have to do this ourselves.
- 33:13Speaker 3: We have to keep picking ourselves up. That o'll pull
- 33:16Speaker 3: yourself up by the bootstraps. Yeah, that's cool, except a
- 33:20Speaker 3: lot of people don't have the boots or the straps.
- 33:24Speaker 3: So you got to keep the faith, and we got
- 33:25Speaker 3: to reach back, and we got to help as many
- 33:27Speaker 3: as we can.
- 33:28Speaker 4: And it's so interesting that you ask the question, Steve,
- 33:31Speaker 4: how long because as we celebrate doctor Martin Luther King
- 33:34Speaker 4: that was in the sixties, that was in the sixties.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I ain't patient no more. I'm a lot of patience.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I'm done with you talking about waiting. I ain't waiting
- 33:44Speaker 3: no more. See, people don't hit the wall now. People,
- 33:48Speaker 3: whether you ain't gonna give me, we're gonna take it.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Been exhausted. I'm overwhelmed. I'm sick and tired of it,
- 33:56Speaker 3: and we are people of color are sick and tired
- 34:00Speaker 3: of it. And you would be true if it was
- 34:02Speaker 3: happening to you, but it ain't happening to you.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So you ain't.
- 34:06Speaker 4: That's right far And we'll have more of the Steve
- 34:08Speaker 4: Harvey Morning Show as we celebrate the life and legacy
- 34:11Speaker 4: of doctor.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Martin Luther King Jr.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Right after this, you're listening Harvey Morning Show, Well, we
- 34:18Speaker 4: got to say Happy King Day.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Today is MLK Day, and it's a day on, not
- 34:24Speaker 1: just a day off.
- 34:25Speaker 4: We want to remind everyone to try and participate in
- 34:28Speaker 4: some sort of community service in your community. You can
- 34:31Speaker 4: volunteer for an organization, you can donate to a cause
- 34:35Speaker 4: or a charity of your choice. All of us here
- 34:37Speaker 4: in the Steve Harvey Morning Show have causes that are
- 34:39Speaker 4: important to us. Mentoring young men from fatherless homes, helping
- 34:43Speaker 4: wounded veterans, breast cancer awareness, sickle cell awareness, domestic violence awareness.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Community service teaches you about empathy, It strengthens the community,
- 34:53Speaker 4: and it creates change. So here's a question, why is
- 34:57Speaker 4: it so important, Steve to give back?
- 34:59Speaker 3: Well, I it's a simple philosophy that I've learned. My
- 35:02Speaker 3: mother taught it to me. God blesses you to become
- 35:06Speaker 3: a blessing and in our community. Man, we should be
- 35:10Speaker 3: more in the uplift business anyway, because we need it. Man,
- 35:15Speaker 3: We need it because the powers that be have policies
- 35:19Speaker 3: in place to suppress us. So when we get in
- 35:22Speaker 3: a position we can ill afford to ignore the others
- 35:26Speaker 3: who are less fortunate. We have got to extend our hand.
- 35:31Speaker 3: He ain't heavy he's my brother. And that's what we
- 35:35Speaker 3: should be about, the uplift of our community, not the
- 35:39Speaker 3: destruction of it. We have got to stop bending and
- 35:46Speaker 3: lending our ear to those who are determined and hell
- 35:50Speaker 3: bent to destroy the black culture, especially when we do
- 35:54Speaker 3: it to ourselves.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Are we crazy?
- 35:58Speaker 3: Man? We cheer for each other to get where we go,
- 36:00Speaker 3: and then when they get there, the jealousy of them
- 36:03Speaker 3: being there becomes too much. We should be in the
- 36:06Speaker 3: uplift business of one another. That's what Callers Foundation is
- 36:10Speaker 3: about with breast cancer awareness. That's what domestic violence is
- 36:14Speaker 3: well with Sherley, That's what the Wounded Warriors is about
- 36:18Speaker 3: with Tommy. That's why kir fights so hard to bring
- 36:22Speaker 3: awareness to what's happening to so many African Americans with
- 36:26Speaker 3: this disease that they don't put enough money behind, they
- 36:30Speaker 3: don't put enough research behind, because it's us.
- 36:33Speaker 2: See.
- 36:34Speaker 3: So we've all committed ourselves to a level of uplift
- 36:37Speaker 3: and that's what it's about, not the destruction of the culture.
- 36:42Speaker 3: We have got to do that. Martin Luther King's whole
- 36:45Speaker 3: life was about service. That's what you remember about him.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Now some people want to come out and talk about
- 36:52Speaker 3: the negative that he did. He's a human being. He's
- 36:54Speaker 3: a human being. You will do that all day long.
- 36:57Speaker 3: But once again, y'all, if you pay attention into it,
- 37:01Speaker 3: they took thirty second sound bites to get rid of Jesus.
- 37:06Speaker 3: You could take a thirty second sound bite and get
- 37:09Speaker 3: rid of anybody. Wow. But stay in the uplift business
- 37:13Speaker 3: because that's what we are here for. Service to our
- 37:18Speaker 3: brothers and sisters. That's what it's about.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Maybe that's right, Steve Keeper positive.
- 37:24Speaker 4: All right, we'll be back with more of a Steve
- 37:26Speaker 4: Harvey Morning Show on this Martin Luther King Holiday right
- 37:29Speaker 4: after this. You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show. The late
- 37:34Speaker 4: great Civil Rights icon. State Representative John Lewis spoke at
- 37:38Speaker 4: the March on Washington back in nineteen sixty three, and
- 37:41Speaker 4: then he spoke at the fiftieth anniversary March on Washington
- 37:45Speaker 4: back in two thy fifteen.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Take a listen fifty.
- 37:51Speaker 10: Years ago, fifty years ago, I stood right here in
- 37:58Speaker 10: this spot, twenty three years old, had all of my
- 38:02Speaker 10: hair and a few pounds like. So I come back
- 38:06Speaker 10: here again, just said at those days, for the most part,
- 38:15Speaker 10: are gone, but we.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Have another fight.
- 38:19Speaker 8: We must stand up and.
- 38:21Speaker 10: Fight the good fight as we march today, for they
- 38:25Speaker 10: are forces, their people who are wanna take us back.
- 38:29Speaker 10: We cannot go back. We come too far.
- 38:33Speaker 3: We want to go forward.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Back.
- 38:37Speaker 10: In nineteen sixty three, hundreds and thousand a million of
- 38:42Speaker 10: our brothers and sisters could not register to vote. When
- 38:47Speaker 10: I stood here fifty years ago, I said, one man,
- 38:51Speaker 10: one vote is African crime.
- 38:53Speaker 2: It is ours too, It must be ours.
- 38:57Speaker 10: I also said, some people tell us to wait, tell
- 39:01Speaker 10: us to be patient. I said, fifty years later, we
- 39:06Speaker 10: cannot wait. We cannot be patient. We want jobs and
- 39:10Speaker 10: we want our freedom. Now, all of us, it doesn't
- 39:16Speaker 10: matter whether we're black or white. Let you know, Asian America,
- 39:20Speaker 10: a Native American. It doesn't matter whether we're straight, a gay.
- 39:25Speaker 10: We're one people. We are one family, We're one house.
- 39:28Speaker 10: We all live in the same house. So I said
- 39:33Speaker 10: to you, my brothers and sisters, we cannot give up.
- 39:40Speaker 10: We cannot give out, We cannot give in. We must
- 39:45Speaker 10: get out there and push and pullull. Now, I a
- 39:49Speaker 10: few short years ago, almost forty eight years ago, well
- 39:53Speaker 10: forty years ago, almost fifty years ago, I gave.
- 39:58Speaker 3: A little blood on that bridge on my Alabama for
- 40:01Speaker 3: the right to vote. I am not going to.
- 40:04Speaker 10: Stand by and let the Supreme Court take the right
- 40:08Speaker 10: to vote away from us. You cannot stand by, you
- 40:16Speaker 10: cannot sit down.
- 40:18Speaker 2: You got to stand up.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Speak up, speak up, and get in a.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Way, make some noise.
- 40:31Speaker 10: The vote is precious, it is almost sacred. It is
- 40:37Speaker 10: the most powerful, non violent tool we have in a
- 40:41Speaker 10: democratic society, and we got to use it. Back in
- 40:46Speaker 10: nineteen sixty three, we hadn't heard of the internet. We
- 40:52Speaker 10: didn't have to sell your telephone iPad our part. But
- 40:56Speaker 10: we used what we had to bring about a non
- 40:59Speaker 10: violent revolution. And I said to all of the young people,
- 41:03Speaker 10: you must get out there and push and pull and
- 41:07Speaker 10: make America what America should be for all of us.
- 41:13Speaker 10: We must set to the Congress fix the voting right site.
- 41:19Speaker 10: We must set to the Congress pass comprehension immigration reform.
- 41:24Speaker 10: It doesn't make sense that million of our people are
- 41:28Speaker 10: living in the shadow. Bring them out into the light
- 41:33Speaker 10: and set them on a path to citizenship.
- 41:37Speaker 2: So hanging there, keep the faith.
- 41:41Speaker 10: I got arrested forty times during the sixties, beat the
- 41:45Speaker 10: left bloody and unconscious.
- 41:47Speaker 2: But I'm not tied, I'm not weary.
- 41:50Speaker 10: I'm not prepared to sit down and give up, and
- 41:54Speaker 10: ready to fight and continue to fight.
- 41:57Speaker 5: And you must fight.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Think of very you're listening, Dave Harvey Morning Show. All right,
- 42:05Speaker 1: happy King holiday everyone. Of course last week, boy, last week.
- 42:12Speaker 4: During a stop, this was a campaign stop in Iowa,
- 42:15Speaker 4: former President Donald Trump said the Civil War was quote
- 42:20Speaker 4: so horrible, but so fascinating, going on to suggest that
- 42:25Speaker 4: the conflict which was fought over, of course, the issue
- 42:28Speaker 4: of slavery, we all know that, could have been negotiated,
- 42:32Speaker 4: a comment that drew immediate backlash from civil rights groups
- 42:35Speaker 4: and historians alike. He said, so many mistakes were made.
- 42:40Speaker 4: See there was something I think could have been negotiated.
- 42:45Speaker 4: To be honest with you, all the people died, So
- 42:48Speaker 4: many people died. Trump went on to say, Abraham Lincoln.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Of course, if he negotiated it, you probably wouldn't even
- 42:55Speaker 4: know who Abraham Lincoln was?
- 42:57Speaker 8: What? What? What?
- 43:00Speaker 3: My granddate ain't up for no negotiation.
- 43:04Speaker 1: This is who y'all want to be.
- 43:05Speaker 2: The Methodist Yep, that's exactly who they want.
- 43:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 3: This ignorant food, this ignorant ass man. He ain't got
- 43:18Speaker 3: no problem. He can't he has to say ignorant stuff
- 43:21Speaker 3: because he ignorant. Now is he a brilliant bres This man,
- 43:25Speaker 3: absolutely no problem. But man, I'm trying to tell you
- 43:31Speaker 3: now that ain't that ain't what you want. But well, man,
- 43:36Speaker 3: I'm gonna be fine whoever they put in there, because
- 43:38Speaker 3: he not in charge of me. There's no way I'll
- 43:41Speaker 3: give him permission be in charge of me. It's no
- 43:43Speaker 3: way now.
- 43:45Speaker 4: It's According to USA Today, Savante Myrick, who is the
- 43:50Speaker 4: president of People for the American Way that is a
- 43:53Speaker 4: progressive advocacy group, said the Trump's commons demonstrate quote, a
- 43:58Speaker 4: glaring ignorance of American history.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Mieric went on to.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Say, and it seems like President Trump was applying that
- 44:04Speaker 4: some sort of failure of diplomacy on behalf of Abraham
- 44:08Speaker 4: Lincoln is what caused the Civil War. He accused Trump's
- 44:12Speaker 4: comments of being extremely appealing to Confederate sympathizers and white
- 44:17Speaker 4: supremacist folks.
- 44:20Speaker 3: What caused the Civil War? With your forefather's insistence on
- 44:24Speaker 3: maintaining the slavery system, that's what caused the Civil War.
- 44:30Speaker 3: What caused the Civil War is their refusal to acknowledge
- 44:33Speaker 3: and accept black people as human beings. That's what caused
- 44:38Speaker 3: the certain war. Them your forefathers. See, I'm not going
- 44:43Speaker 3: to ever stop saying that them, your forefathers, them, not
- 44:45Speaker 3: my forefathers, them, your full fathers. Y'all stole. Y'all stole America,
- 44:54Speaker 3: Louisiana treaty allist that's y'all. Y'all did that. Y'all came
- 44:57Speaker 3: over here to Indians say the Native American saved y'all life,
- 45:00Speaker 3: and then to thank them, y'all took everything from got
- 45:03Speaker 3: them old reservation. That's that's what y'all did. That's your mo.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 3: The Asian people come over here and build a railroads
- 45:12Speaker 3: and you had black people build everything else. Did you.
- 45:20Speaker 8: What? What? What?
- 45:21Speaker 3: What you want us to do? And then after we
- 45:25Speaker 3: build your country and make your country, then you don't
- 45:27Speaker 3: want us in the country. Now all your policies is
- 45:30Speaker 3: keep us down and suppressed. Well, everybody, we take no more.
- 45:36Speaker 1: We still have to fight for voting rights.
- 45:38Speaker 3: And you know why you have to fight for your
- 45:40Speaker 3: voting rights because the actions of the forefathers still revived
- 45:44Speaker 3: resideing their great grandchildren. That's why.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Well my word right, yeah, yeah, And uh, Natasha Brown,
- 45:53Speaker 4: who is the co founder of Black Voters Matter, agreed,
- 45:57Speaker 4: saying that Trump's comments appeared aimed at I'm playing the
- 46:00Speaker 4: enslavement of black people in America's history.
- 46:04Speaker 1: She says, we know the history of the South.
- 46:06Speaker 4: We know that part of the elements of the South
- 46:08Speaker 4: were centered around the institution of slavery and in maintaining
- 46:12Speaker 4: that people of color would be in a permanent social status.
- 46:16Speaker 8: Uh.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Brown accused Trump of speaking to those that still feel
- 46:20Speaker 4: like their only advantage is white supremacy.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Wow, clearly.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Police register to vote and vote.
- 46:30Speaker 3: This year an undoable what she just said, good, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 46:39Speaker 3: but you know they prove it. All all you gotta
- 46:41Speaker 3: do is look at Florida. They want to erase slavery
- 46:46Speaker 3: from history books.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Because it makes them feel uncomfortable.
- 46:49Speaker 3: That you can come to Texas that part.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Hell, yeah, to Texas.
- 46:54Speaker 1: You know how uncomfortable we've been.
- 46:57Speaker 11: After years at right, y'all on Day thirty.
- 47:03Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, well, Steve, you talked about it earlier. You know,
- 47:10Speaker 12: the crew, we've been talking about it. This is an
- 47:13Speaker 12: election year of twenty twenty four, and we have to
- 47:15Speaker 12: take this seriously.
- 47:17Speaker 1: We have to take this seriously.
- 47:18Speaker 12: Trump tried to overthrow the government on January sixth, that
- 47:22Speaker 12: just happened not too long ago, the anniversary about this
- 47:26Speaker 12: police officers died. They're trying to kidnap senators and congress people.
- 47:31Speaker 12: They're taking away women's reproductive rights, they're taking away affirmative
- 47:36Speaker 12: action and universities and colleges.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Y'all better wake up, y'all.
- 47:40Speaker 3: And y'all black people out here that's thinking Trump is
- 47:43Speaker 3: good for black people, you're a fool.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he already was in office for four years.
- 47:50Speaker 8: What did he do?
- 47:52Speaker 3: Dump Trump ain't good for nobody, man, ll y'all said
- 47:55Speaker 3: the mistaken and the other voters just trying to convince
- 47:58Speaker 3: them that that wouldn't not having that man, that he's
- 48:02Speaker 3: good for you because he's just like you. But he's
- 48:07Speaker 3: nothing like me. I'm nothing like him. We have no
- 48:11Speaker 3: similarities none.
- 48:14Speaker 8: I get puzzled by and maybe I shouldn't say this,
- 48:17Speaker 8: but Hispanics that get Trump's vote, I just don't understand
- 48:21Speaker 8: that part.
- 48:22Speaker 3: I don't get that either.
- 48:25Speaker 1: What Spanics Blacks?
- 48:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I think there are Republicans at heart, and he's
- 48:34Speaker 4: the Republican candidate.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Butt of the country.
- 48:40Speaker 5: Right.
- 48:41Speaker 3: There are those Latinos who are here who have integrated
- 48:47Speaker 3: into the system, who are against open borders.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yeah, very true.
- 48:54Speaker 3: You ever seen somebody get there and then act like
- 48:56Speaker 3: they've been the whole time?
- 48:58Speaker 2: Clara Thomas.
- 49:05Speaker 12: Right, amirmative action advantage now on the Supreme Court.
- 49:12Speaker 1: You don't want a firm away with it. Yeah, but
- 49:15Speaker 1: you benefited from it.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Okay, that's it.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Well, we have to vote.
- 49:21Speaker 4: I mean, you know, like you said earlier, Steve, we
- 49:25Speaker 4: may not or people may not want Biden in office.
- 49:28Speaker 4: They may talk about Biden saying he's too old and
- 49:31Speaker 4: whatever whatever.
- 49:32Speaker 1: But I mean, what are the choices do we have here?
- 49:36Speaker 3: I rather have somebody old in office than somebody that's
- 49:39Speaker 3: corrupted in office.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, let me tell you something for himself.
- 49:44Speaker 3: If this man is this corrupt that you know about,
- 49:49Speaker 3: do you know the stuff that you don't know about?
- 49:51Speaker 1: You bring up a good point, sir.
- 49:54Speaker 3: He this man is in deep water. This is the
- 49:58Speaker 3: stuff you found out about. This is so much more
- 50:02Speaker 3: to him. And if you all let him get this
- 50:05Speaker 3: election in, which will keep him out of jail for sure,
- 50:08Speaker 3: or he gonna clown, he gonna clown, he gonna clomb clown.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Y'all get ready for the shelf clown.
- 50:19Speaker 1: He might do away with our whole democratic system.
- 50:22Speaker 4: I mean, there's so much stake, there's so much at
- 50:26Speaker 4: stake in this new in this upcoming election, our democracy.
- 50:29Speaker 12: Yeah, you're right, Shirley, Absolutely, our democracy is sake your freedom.
- 50:38Speaker 3: He said, I will be a dictator on day one.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Yes, yes, he's always had a dictator ment. Listen.
- 50:45Speaker 3: The last time he got in on day one, he
- 50:49Speaker 3: tried to sive Obamacare immediately it didn't work. Obamacare, uh,
- 50:54Speaker 3: which is really outstanding and the people know it. That's
- 50:57Speaker 3: why they can never get rid of it. And he
- 50:59Speaker 3: signed to be to band travel from seven Muslim countries.
- 51:04Speaker 3: Get this dude right here?
- 51:05Speaker 1: Man, all right, this is Mlkday.
- 51:09Speaker 4: We'll have more of the Steve Harvey Morning Show coming
- 51:12Speaker 4: up at the top of the hour.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Right after this. You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Once Said the life's most
- 51:21Speaker 3: persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others?
- 51:26Speaker 3: Coming up, we got some excerpts from doctor King's I've
- 51:28Speaker 3: Been to the Mountaintop speech.
- 51:30Speaker 8: Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness in these.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Powerful days.
- 51:40Speaker 8: These days are challenge to make America what it ought
- 51:45Speaker 8: to be. We have an opportunity to make America a
- 51:50Speaker 8: better nation, and I want to thank God.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Once more for allowing me.
- 51:57Speaker 3: To be here with you.
- 51:59Speaker 8: You know, years ago I was in New York City
- 52:03Speaker 8: autographing the first book that I had written. While sitting
- 52:07Speaker 8: the autographing books, the minute black woman came up. The
- 52:13Speaker 8: only question I heard from her was you Martin Luther King.
- 52:18Speaker 8: And I was looking down writing and I said yes.
- 52:22Speaker 8: The next minute, I felt something beating on my chest.
- 52:25Speaker 8: Before I knew it, I had been stabbed by this
- 52:28Speaker 8: deminuted woman. I was rushed to hullm Hospital. It was
- 52:32Speaker 8: a dog Saturday afternoon. That blade had gone through. In
- 52:38Speaker 8: X rays revealed that the tip of the blade was
- 52:42Speaker 8: on the edge of my order the main artery and.
- 52:46Speaker 2: One sop's puncture. You drowned in your own blood. That's
- 52:49Speaker 2: the end of you.
- 52:51Speaker 8: It came out in the New York Times the next
- 52:54Speaker 8: morning that if I had merely sneezed, I.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Would have died.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Well.
- 52:59Speaker 8: About four days later, they allowed me after the operation,
- 53:03Speaker 8: after my chest had been opening the blade had been
- 53:06Speaker 8: taken out, to move around in the wheelchair in the hospital.
- 53:10Speaker 8: They allowed me to read some of the mail that
- 53:12Speaker 8: came in, and from all over the States and the world.
- 53:16Speaker 8: Kind letters came in. I read a few, but one
- 53:21Speaker 8: of them I will never forget. I had received one
- 53:24Speaker 8: from the President and the Vice President. I've forgotten what
- 53:28Speaker 8: those telegrams said. I'd received a visit and a letter
- 53:31Speaker 8: from the Governor of New York, but I've forgotten what
- 53:34Speaker 8: that letter say it.
- 53:36Speaker 2: But there was another letter.
- 53:39Speaker 3: It came from a.
- 53:40Speaker 8: Little girl, a young girl who was a student at
- 53:44Speaker 8: the White Planes High School. And I looked at that letter.
- 53:47Speaker 8: I'll never forget it. Say it simply, dear Doctor King,
- 53:52Speaker 8: I am a ninth grade student at the White Planes
- 53:56Speaker 8: High School. She said, while it should not make that,
- 54:00Speaker 8: I would like to mention that I'm a white girl.
- 54:03Speaker 8: I read in the paper of your misfortune and of
- 54:09Speaker 8: your suffering, and I read that if you had sneezed,
- 54:12Speaker 8: you would have died. I'm simply writing you to say
- 54:16Speaker 8: that I'm so happy that you didn't sneeze. And I
- 54:20Speaker 8: want to say tonight, I want to say tonight that
- 54:24Speaker 8: I too, am happy that I didn't sneeze, because if
- 54:26Speaker 8: I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been around here. In
- 54:30Speaker 8: nineteen sixty when students all over the South started sitting
- 54:35Speaker 8: in at lunch counties, and I knew that as a
- 54:37Speaker 8: were sitting in, they were really standing up for the
- 54:41Speaker 8: best in the American dream and taking the whole nation
- 54:44Speaker 8: back to those great weals of democracy which were dug
- 54:47Speaker 8: deep by the founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence
- 54:51Speaker 8: and the Constitution. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have
- 54:55Speaker 8: been around here in nineteen sixty one when we decided
- 54:59Speaker 8: to take a ride for freedom an ended segregation.
- 55:03Speaker 2: In interstate travel.
- 55:04Speaker 8: If I had sneeze, I wouldn't have been around here
- 55:09Speaker 8: in nineteen sixty two when Negroes and all been at
- 55:13Speaker 8: Georgia decided to straighten.
- 55:15Speaker 3: That box up.
- 55:16Speaker 2: And when other men and women straighten.
- 55:18Speaker 8: That box up, they are going somewhere because a man
- 55:22Speaker 8: had roger.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Back unless it is bent.
- 55:24Speaker 8: If I had sneezed, I had sneezed, I wouldn't have
- 55:28Speaker 8: been here.
- 55:29Speaker 2: In nineteen sixty three.
- 55:32Speaker 8: The black people of Birmingham, Alabama aroused the conscience of
- 55:39Speaker 8: this nation and brought into being the Civil Rights Bill.
- 55:42Speaker 8: If I had sneeze, I wouldn't have had a chance.
- 55:46Speaker 8: Later that year, in August to try to tell America
- 55:49Speaker 8: about a dream that I had had. If I had sneeze,
- 55:55Speaker 8: I wouldn't have been down in Selma, Alabama to see.
- 55:59Speaker 2: The great movement there. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't
- 56:03Speaker 2: have been in.
- 56:04Speaker 8: Memphis to see a community rather around those brothers and
- 56:10Speaker 8: sisters who are suffering. I'm so happy that I didn't
- 56:14Speaker 8: snee and they were telling them now it doesn't matter now,
- 56:19Speaker 8: it really doesn't matter what happens now. I left Atlanta
- 56:22Speaker 8: this morning, and as we got started on the plane
- 56:26Speaker 8: that was six of us, the pilot said over the
- 56:31Speaker 8: public address system, we're sorref for the delay, but we
- 56:35Speaker 8: have Dr Martin lutheror King on the plane and to
- 56:39Speaker 8: be sure that all of the bags were checked and
- 56:43Speaker 8: to be sure that nothing.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Would be wrong on the plane.
- 56:48Speaker 8: We had to check out everything carefully, and we've had
- 56:51Speaker 8: the plane protected and gut.
- 56:54Speaker 2: It all night.
- 56:56Speaker 8: And then I got into Memphis and some began to
- 57:01Speaker 8: say the threats I talk about the threats that were
- 57:04Speaker 8: out or what would happen to me from some of
- 57:09Speaker 8: our sick white brothers. Well, I don't know what will
- 57:14Speaker 8: happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead, but It
- 57:18Speaker 8: really doesn't matter with me now because I've been to
- 57:21Speaker 8: the mountain talk.
- 57:24Speaker 3: I don't mind.
- 57:26Speaker 8: Like anybody, I would like to live a long life.
- 57:29Speaker 8: Longevity has its place, but I'm not concerned about that now.
- 57:37Speaker 8: I just want to do God's will, and He's allowed
- 57:42Speaker 8: me to go up to the mountain, and I've looked.
- 57:45Speaker 3: Over and I've seen.
- 57:49Speaker 2: The promised land.
- 57:52Speaker 8: I may not get there with you, but I want
- 57:55Speaker 8: you to know the night that we as a people
- 57:59Speaker 8: will get to a promise man. So I'm happy tonight.
- 58:04Speaker 5: I'm not worried about anything.
- 58:06Speaker 1: I'm not fearing in a man.
- 58:08Speaker 2: My eyes have seen the glory on the coming of
- 58:11Speaker 2: the Lord.
- 58:12Speaker 1: You're listening Dave Hardy Morning Show.
- 58:16Speaker 3: Coming up, We're going to play some excerpts from doctor
- 58:18Speaker 3: King's I Have a Dream Speech.
- 58:23Speaker 2: I am happy to john with you today in what
- 58:29Speaker 2: will go down.
- 58:30Speaker 8: In history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Of our nation.
- 58:44Speaker 8: Five score years ago, a great American in whose symbolic
- 58:51Speaker 8: shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous
- 58:59Speaker 8: decree can as a great beacon light of hope to
- 59:03Speaker 8: millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the
- 59:08Speaker 8: flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak
- 59:15Speaker 8: during the long night of their captivity. But one hundred
- 59:21Speaker 8: years later, the negro steal is not free. One hundred
- 59:28Speaker 8: years later, the life of the negro is still sadly
- 59:33Speaker 8: crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination.
- 59:40Speaker 8: One hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely
- 59:44Speaker 8: island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean
- 59:48Speaker 8: of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the negro is
- 59:57Speaker 8: still languished in the corner of American society and finds
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: himself in exile in.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: His own land.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: So we've come here today.
- 1:00:10Speaker 8: To dramatize a shameful condition. In a sense, we've come
- 1:00:16Speaker 8: to our nation's capital to cash a check.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: When the architects of our Republic.
- 1:00:25Speaker 8: Wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: of Independence, they were signing a promise or a note
- 1:00:36Speaker 8: to whichever the American was to fall out. This note
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: was a promise in all men, yes, black men, as
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: It is obvious today.
- 1:01:01Speaker 8: That America has defaulted on this promisory note in so
- 1:01:06Speaker 8: far as our citizens of color are concerned. Instead of
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: a bad check, a check which has come back mark
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: insufficient funds.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: But we refuse to believe that the.
- 1:01:31Speaker 8: Bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that
- 1:01:38Speaker 8: that are insufficient funds in the great faults of opportunity
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: of this nation. So we've come to cash this check,
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: a check that will give us, upon demand, the riches
- 1:01:50Speaker 8: of freedom and the security of justice. We have also
- 1:02:01Speaker 8: come to this hallid spot to remind the America of
- 1:02:06Speaker 8: the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take
- 1:02:16Speaker 8: the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Now is the time, lovely, to make real.
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: The promises of democracy. Now is the time the rise
- 1:02:35Speaker 8: from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the
- 1:02:39Speaker 8: sunlit path of racial justice.
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Now is the time.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: From the quick send of racial.
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: Injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: The reality for all of God's do.
- 1:03:02Speaker 8: It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: legitimate discontent will not pass until that is an invigorating
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: ultumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty three is not
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: an end, but a beginning. Those who hope that the
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Will have a rude awakening.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: If the nation returns to business as usual. There will
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: is granted his citizenship rights.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: The whirlwindsor revolt.
- 1:03:56Speaker 8: Will continue to shake the foundations of our until the
- 1:04:01Speaker 8: bright day of justice emerges. But that is something that
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: I must say to my people who stand on the
- 1:04:09Speaker 8: warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In
- 1:04:14Speaker 8: the process of gaining our rightful place, we must.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Not be guilty of wrong for deeds.
- 1:04:21Speaker 8: Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: You're listening hard morning shows right now, I asked, promise,
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: we're going to play some of doctor King's I have
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: a Dream speech, which he delivered on the steps of
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: the Lincoln Memorial back in nineteen sixty three.
- 1:04:49Speaker 8: One day, right now in Alabama, little black boys and
- 1:04:53Speaker 8: black girls, we'll be able to join hands with little
- 1:04:56Speaker 8: white boars and white girls.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: As sisters and brothers. I have a dream today.
- 1:05:02Speaker 8: I have a dream that one day every valley shall
- 1:05:06Speaker 8: be exalted, every hill and mountains shall be made low.
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: The rough faces will be made paint, and the crooked
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: faces will be made straight, and the core of the
- 1:05:15Speaker 8: heart shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.
- 1:05:20Speaker 8: This is our hope.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: This is a feat that I go back to the
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: South with. With this fail, we will be able to
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: With this fail, we will be able to transform the
- 1:05:37Speaker 8: jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: With this fail, we will be able to work together,
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together,
- 1:05:51Speaker 8: to stand up for freedom, together.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Knowing that we will be free one day.
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: Willing day, this will be the.
- 1:06:02Speaker 8: Day when all the gods too will be able to
- 1:06:06Speaker 8: sing with new meaning. My country tears at the sweet
- 1:06:11Speaker 8: land of liberty of b I sing Land where my
- 1:06:15Speaker 8: father's died, land of the Pilgrim's fry from every mountainside.
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: Let freedom ring, And for America is to be a
- 1:06:24Speaker 8: great nation, this must become true. So let freedom ring
- 1:06:30Speaker 8: from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring
- 1:06:35Speaker 8: from the mighty mountains of New York.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: Let freedom ring from the.
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: Heightening allegaties of Pennsylvania. Let freedom ring from the snow
- 1:06:45Speaker 8: cap ark is of Colorado. Let freedom ring from the
- 1:06:49Speaker 8: curbation of slopes of California. But not only that, Let
- 1:06:55Speaker 8: freedom ring from storm mountain of Georgia.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Fret them ring from lookout.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Mountain of Tennessee the freedom.
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: Ring from every hill and mole hill of Mississippi, from
- 1:07:10Speaker 8: every mountainside.
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: Then freedom ring.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: And when it happens.
- 1:07:18Speaker 8: When we allow freedom ring, when we letted ring from
- 1:07:22Speaker 8: every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city,
- 1:07:28Speaker 8: we will be able to speed up that day when
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: all about children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles,
- 1:07:36Speaker 8: Protestants and catholic.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: Will be able to join hands and sing in the
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: words of the old.
- 1:07:42Speaker 8: Negro spiritual Free at last, all free, at last, Thank
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: Quarto mater.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: Real fear will be that you're listening Jesday Harvey Morning Show.
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: Today's MLK Day. It is a day of service. Red
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: Martin Luther King Junior devote in his life to service
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: and fighting for civil rights and freedom. Doctor King had
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: a pursuit for racial, social, and economic justice. And Steve,
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: I got to ask you this question. You know, you
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: talk about this a lot. You talked about it earlier
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: this morning. You've been through a lot growing up. So
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: how have you learned to deal with racism? How have
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: you dealt with it?
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: I mean, look, I mean pretty much like most people.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: I mean, I'm angry about it. I don't understand what's
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: taking so long. It doesn't make any sense to me.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: It's actually pathetic. Why is it that people of color
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: are still asking for equality, which seems like we're asking
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: it from from somebody that's not willing to give it.
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: I mean, it's just obviously that there are people who
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: are set in their ways, and it's frustrating now we
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: Even with that said, I have devoted myself to being
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: the best person that I can be, to elevate myself
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: as high as I can, but not only elevate myself,
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: stick my hand back down the wall and bring up
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: as many people as I can, Thus my foundation, thus
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: my ranch, thus me trying to promote young people, thus
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: helping people. I'm constantly looking for ways to uplift the
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: the oppressed, the downtrodden people, and that carries over into
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: all people too. And that's what's been crazy about it.
- 1:09:36Speaker 8: Man.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I'm willing to help all people. Now, do I have
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: a special affinity and do I target mostly people of color?
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I do that. And I was talking to one
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: guy one day and he said, well, how can you
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: just target them? I said, well, who woa, That's where
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: I see the most need. I see the most need
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: in people of color and oppressed people. So I'm targeting
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: my efforts. I said, you know, look, it's all types
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: of people come to the camp. Anybody can come to
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: the camp. Hell Asians are oppressed, they walk them at
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: the camp. All Latinos come to my camp. They were
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: I got white kids come to the camp. You know,
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: I got all of them.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Diversity.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: But you know, you can't get mad at me because
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: I know where the greater need is and I can
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: see it more obviously, and it's my obligation because if
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: the government not gonna do it, well, let's just look
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: at this right here. For example, let's just look at
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: the education disparity in this country. Why do we have
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: an educational disparity Because the money on the federal level
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: that we pay in taxes and we pay state taxes,
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: local taxes, it all goes into a fund. Now, the
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: areas that pay the most funds into the state taxes
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: or the federal taxes are the places receive the most
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: money back. Poor places are not gonna have as big
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: a pool to pick from, so poor places stay behind
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: the eight ball. It's the system they set up. See,
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: they set that system up, not me. So what should
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: be happening is we should as a country make sure
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: that all people have access to a quality education and
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: a free education. Ah, that ain't the American way. That
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: ain't the American way. But that's why we're losing education
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: wise on the global level because other countries they don't
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: do it that way. We should all be able to
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: we make enough money in this country where everybody should
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: get free medical there's a business we don't get that.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: So you knows, right, But this is the system they
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: set up, and the system is not set up and
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: targeted for the underprivileged or the oppressed.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Oh, the less fortunate, That's right, Steve.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: So it's not set up that way. So my obligation
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: in my foundation is fun the less fortunate, the oppress,
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: the down trot and I go out of my way
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: to see that that happens. But you know, and we're
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: going to win. It's just sad that it's taken so
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: damn long. And is it pisses you off? And I
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: would say this to anybody who is not of color,
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: how long would you like to wait to be treated equal?
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: That's right, are And we'll have more of the Steve
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: Harvey Morning Show as we celebrate the life and legacy
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: of doctor Martin Luther King Junior.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Right after this. You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show. Happy
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: King Holiday.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: We do want to remind everyone to get registered to
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: vote please, it is so crucial this year.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Today and today is the Iowa Caucus.
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: The caucus is a process by which voters in Iowa
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: select their top choice for their party's presidential nomination. It
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: differs from a primary because it's overseen by the state party,
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: not the state government, and does not require voting at
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: a polling place. Now, according to reuters dot Com, the
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: Republican Party will hold its caucuses on January fifteenth, that
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: is today. Iowa Democrats separately are choosing their candidate entirely
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: by mail in ballot this election cycle, and will release
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: their results on March fifth, that Super Tuesday. The caucuses
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: are viewed as the first snapshot of voter support for
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: presidential candidates. Typically, those candidates will have spent months campaigning
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: across the state, testing their messages and their appeal. Those
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: who don't farewell sometimes opt to drop out of the race.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: Former President Donald Trump is heavily favored to win.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Right there, man, Yah, vote is right everything?
- 1:14:02Speaker 5: Do they not see?
- 1:14:03Speaker 8: No?
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, guys, guys, they see it and
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: they cool with it because that's them. That's them. That's
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: why they don't see no wrong with it, because that's
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: how they are.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: Period.
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: Wake up, y'all, that's how they are.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: Go to when we all vote dot org and get
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: registered today, we'll be back right after this.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: You're listening morning show. Well, we gotta say Happy King Day.
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: Today is MLK Day and it's a day on, not
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: just a day off. We want to remind everyone to
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: try and participate in some sort of community service in
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: your community. You can volunteer for an organization. You can
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: donate to a cause or a charity.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Of your choice.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: All of us here in the Steve Harvey Morning Show
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: have causes that are important to us. Mentoring young men
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: from fatherless homes, helping wounded veterans, breast cancer awareness, sickle
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: cell awareness, domestic violence awareness. Community service teaches you about empathy.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: It strengthens the community, and it creates change. So here's
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: a question, why is it so important Steve to give back?
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you know, it's a simple philosophy that
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: I've learned. My mother taught it to me. God blesses
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: you to become a blessing and in our community. Man,
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: we should be more in the uplift business anyway, because
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: we need it. Man, We need it because the powers
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: that be have policies in place to suppress us. So
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: when we get in a position we can ill afford
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: to ignore the others who are less fortunate, we have
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: got to extend our hand. He ain't heavy, he's my brother,
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: and that's what we should be about the uplift of
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: our community, not the destruction of it. We have got
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: to stop bending and lending our ears of those who
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: are determined and hell bent to destroy the black culture,
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: especially when we do it to ourselves.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: Are we crazy?
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: Man?
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: We cheer for each other to get where we go,
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: and then when they get there, the jealousy of them
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: being there becomes too much. We should be in the
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: uplift business of one another. That's what Callers Foundation is
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: about with breast cancer awareness. That's what domestic violence is
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: well with Shirley, That's what the Wounded Warriors is about
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: with Tommy. That's why kir fights so hard to bring
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: awareness to what's happening to so many African Americans with
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: this disease that they don't put enough money behind, they
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: don't put enough research behind, because it's us. See, So
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: we've all committed ourselves to a level of uplift and
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: that's what it's about, not the destruction of the culture.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: We have got to do that. Martin Luther King's whole
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: life was about service. That's what you remember about him.
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: Now some people want to come out and talk about
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: the negative that he did. He's a human being. He's
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: a human being. You can do that all day long.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: But once again, y'all, if you pay attention to it,
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: they took thirty second sound bites to get rid of Jesus.
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: You can take a thirty second sound bite and get
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: rid of anybody.
- 1:17:23Speaker 8: Wow.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: But stay in the uplift business because that's what we
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: are here for. Service to our brothers and sisters. That's
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: what it's about.
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Maybe that's right, Steve, keep it positive.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: We'll be back with more of a Steve Harvey Morning
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: Show on this Martin Luther King Holiday right after this.
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show. All right, So Steve,
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: we get this request every year. People want us to
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: play the closing from your stand up special. Remember when
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: you did this? This is so memorable. Don't trip. He
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: ain't through with me yet. At Bishop td Jake's megafest.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: This was back in thousand and six. People still love this.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: I know the exact year that I stopped going to hell.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Well that's a good thing.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: Yeah, two thousand and five, two thousand and six, a
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: BYuT ride. Two thousand and seven when I really put
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: the brakes on it. But yeah, I was full blast
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: all the way up to two thousand and five. Full blast.
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: It's rocket boosters, just going committed. Yeah, man, the Bishop
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: called you you too, and you know and he called
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: me and asked me, and I told him. I said, man,
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: let me think about it. And then I told him
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: finally about the third cost bit. I said, I can't
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: do it, man, I said, Bro, you're asking me that.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: That's a whole hour. No, because I'm church people ain't
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: gonna big deal with me. He said, Hey, man, I
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: know you, he said, but better than that, God know
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: your heart. He said, you good, brother man, you could
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: do it. Come on, do this all right, man, I'll
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: do it good. I'ma put you down and put you
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: on the way a good and he was done with it.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: He didn't know what he had threw me into. Because
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: let me tell you something, man, I had to go write,
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: don't trip. He ain't through me yet. It's a whole special,
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: I wrote. I had to go write that special. It
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: wasn't jokes I was doing on the road. I had
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: to write that special. I had to go write that one.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: I had to go put this church stuff together. It
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: was probably the easiest hardest set I've ever written. Because
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: I grew up in the church, so I knew a
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: lot of church stuff. I did not think that the
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: church folks was going to accept it because I was
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: gonna have to talk about them. I was gonna have
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: to talk about the people that they let read announcements,
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: you know, because the first thing about reading announcements, reading
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: is fundamental. You can't put the ignorant people shouldn't be
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: reading announcements at the church sick and chip. I just
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: it's just a lot of stuff I knew calling the past,
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: about every little thing I just I said. And then
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: stuff that I knew, how the choir saying who in
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: the choir?
- 1:20:13Speaker 8: You know?
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: Stuff you can't do no more?
- 1:20:16Speaker 12: Right right?
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: I do any of them jokes, I'm being in trouble.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: That's so true, Steve, because my grandmother when she saw
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: that special.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: She said, how he know all this is true? Talking
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: about the church?
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: All of that.
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: I knew church because I grew up in it. Was
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: gonna ask me. I was like, like, you know, like
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: for us comedians, you know, you don't know where the
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: big gonna come from.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: But do you remember the money segment?
- 1:20:42Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: Do you remember the moment when you came up with
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: that intro for Christ? Do you know you was at
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: the time and place I was at. I was at
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: the Grand Looks restaurant. L I remember the Deverly Center
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: because I used to go from the radio show to
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: the Grand Looks and sit there all day. Sometimes I
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: need three meals there. If we played Domino's.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: All day, though, what could we all day? That's why
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: they shut it down to you know, I had a lot.
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: Going on back then, so and you know, like and
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: I would just sit there. And so one day man
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: Boom was there and Boom Dog, you know, had a
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: hell of career. Man, what you like the most? I said, Man,
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: I introduced everybody. I didn't duce Bible stress, saying I
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: introduced you know, uh uh Neil diamond Don and introduced
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: I'm talking about every black person beyond jay Z. I
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: don't care who it is. I'm Luther Whitney, Michael. I said.
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: The only person I ain't never introduced was Jesus. I said,
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: if I could just introduce Jesus, that a captain for me.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: They said, man, what would you say? And that was
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: the bit. If I had the pleasure of bringing out Christ,
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: this is just how I would do it. It ain't
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: got to be the way you do it. You might
