- 1:55Speaker 1: is legendary. For sustaining sitcoms on the air. But lets
- 2:00Speaker 1: go a little bit about this brother here. He's uh,
- 2:02Speaker 1: he's originally from Cleveland, Mississippi, so you have to use
- 2:05Speaker 1: the word humble beginneas with him. He's an h PC
- 2:09Speaker 1: in your law Mississippi Valley State. That's Jerry Ryans Country
- 2:12Speaker 1: Willie Todd, you know what I'm talking about, and currently
- 2:15Speaker 1: resides in Los Angeles, California. You know the beauty of him, man.
- 2:19Speaker 1: He has a book out that we're gonna talk about.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Is a self published children's book series and includes the
- 2:24Speaker 1: titles of Blackie, He's a previous book that he's written,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but my Little Black Book. The book promotes black beauty, inclusion,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and self love, which are some of the forces that
- 2:34Speaker 1: drive this young man as he builds his empire through
- 2:36Speaker 1: his talent, hard work, passion, and his commitment to making
- 2:40Speaker 1: other people better. Please work with the money making a conversation.
- 2:43Speaker 1: He had to change his background once he realized who
- 2:45Speaker 1: was interviewing him. He thought he was in the basement.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Please welcome terrors to be showing up the like, let me,
- 3:00Speaker 1: let me show out, let me get ready for you. No, no, no,
- 3:06Speaker 1: hold up, hey man, Okay, who are you gonnagain? Hold on,
- 3:10Speaker 1: hold on, hold hold on. That's your background that ain't
- 3:12Speaker 1: know like uh like no, no little thing they just
- 3:14Speaker 1: put on like a little flip pitcher. Now that's me brother,
- 3:17Speaker 1: all of like, let me know you are about me.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Let me go ahead and do something where you're upgrading ground. Well,
- 3:24Speaker 1: first all, you're a handsome guy. So any background you'll
- 3:26Speaker 1: be in front of gonna work for you. So let's
- 3:28Speaker 1: go get that. That's gonna get that out to wait.
- 3:31Speaker 1: But you come from Cleveland, Mississippi. Now, I've been all over.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I have been in that city because, like I said,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I know about Cleveland, uh, Mississippi, Alabama, because I was
- 3:43Speaker 1: a stand up comedian. So I was going up and
- 3:45Speaker 1: down all the little towns man just trying to make
- 3:48Speaker 1: my career work. And and when you're trying to make
- 3:51Speaker 1: your career work, sometimes you have to do in play
- 3:54Speaker 1: places that on one on that schedule for start. And
- 3:58Speaker 1: so come from Cleveland. Now we're sighting in Los Angeles.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Told us about their journey because we have to stop
- 4:04Speaker 1: at the HBCU country that I mentioned in your intro
- 4:08Speaker 1: Mississippi Valley state. Because right now, HBCU brand recognition is
- 4:13Speaker 1: on fire. You have to be proud. Yes, Um, so
- 4:17Speaker 1: I was raised that while I grew up in Mississippi,
- 4:20Speaker 1: but my mom moved us to Cleveland at five and
- 4:23Speaker 1: I went to San Diego and then I came back
- 4:25Speaker 1: to Clean, Mississippi when I was fifteen because my grandmother.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You know, you go back to the South because somebody
- 4:30Speaker 1: is sick or you gotta help family, remember house, So
- 4:32Speaker 1: my grandmother had are open heart surgery, so I went
- 4:35Speaker 1: back to help her out. Um, and I end up
- 4:37Speaker 1: going to college at Mississippi Valley State there undergrad that
- 4:41Speaker 1: was undergrad then grad school. I went to Jackson State.
- 4:43Speaker 1: But I was a drum major at Mississippi Valley State.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So I was in front of the bage. Come on
- 4:47Speaker 1: that you that guy that did display not hey man,
- 4:51Speaker 1: let's let's let's talk about that man, because that's no joke. Man.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You're the drum major for a black marching band and HBCU.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Hey brother, you know, finally somebody understand when you say
- 5:05Speaker 1: drum major. They'd be like, oh, the person that played
- 5:07Speaker 1: a drum major is literally like the Michael Jackson of
- 5:11Speaker 1: the band. You gotta you gotta be, you gotta know
- 5:14Speaker 1: the steps, you gotta know the cues, you gotta know
- 5:16Speaker 1: the sections. You gotta be in control. So yeah, so
- 5:19Speaker 1: you know the gangster of what a drum major is.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I became a drum major freshman year, and that usually
- 5:27Speaker 1: never happens. You gotta be in the gym, not the gym,
- 5:30Speaker 1: but you gotta be in a band for at least
- 5:31Speaker 1: two years to do that. And I tried out and
- 5:33Speaker 1: I made it, and so I was a freshman drum
- 5:35Speaker 1: major and so you know, of course I had to
- 5:37Speaker 1: be very strong because you have people in the band,
- 5:40Speaker 1: like what seven years they ain't graduated, and maybe it
- 5:42Speaker 1: was just being a band, So yeah, it was. It
- 5:44Speaker 1: was a very cool experience. But I learned so much music,
- 5:47Speaker 1: so so many amazing things that you can learn. You
- 5:50Speaker 1: learn how to survive at HBCU. You of course get
- 5:53Speaker 1: your education, but you learn how to make a way
- 5:56Speaker 1: out of no way, right, and it's really important. You
- 5:59Speaker 1: sitting and because I don't want to, because we talked
- 6:01Speaker 1: about HBCUs and I want to go back to that
- 6:04Speaker 1: marching band experience because that's the cornerstone of what HBCUs
- 6:08Speaker 1: are known for. And you know, we know about sports,
- 6:11Speaker 1: but then the bands or that halftime show and then
- 6:14Speaker 1: you know, then you cast and throwing to HBCU. Well,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you know I did undergrad it Miss Valor State, and
- 6:20Speaker 1: then I did granted Jackson State with Dan Sanders, got
- 6:24Speaker 1: him two old tanning up all on the front baby ESPN.
- 6:28Speaker 1: They undefeated everything. Man, you have to be and Miss
- 6:32Speaker 1: Valor State home Hall of Famer Jared Rice. Man, you
- 6:35Speaker 1: have to be. Brother. You gotta have some HBCU photos
- 6:38Speaker 1: in frond your house. It's it's it's a great time
- 6:40Speaker 1: for hbc U, the greatest. But the funny thing is
- 6:43Speaker 1: coach Todd and he was at my He used to
- 6:46Speaker 1: coach at my high school, okay, at east Side High
- 6:49Speaker 1: and in Cleveland, and then when I went into I
- 6:52Speaker 1: think he left and went to Valley States. So I
- 6:55Speaker 1: marched into Titan Ross Rice Stadium on a weekly basis
- 7:00Speaker 1: just just the love and the energy that I got
- 7:03Speaker 1: from there. And then of course it was so funny
- 7:05Speaker 1: because you know a lot of people like you shouldn't
- 7:07Speaker 1: go to two HBCUs, you should go to undergrad at
- 7:11Speaker 1: one and then maybe you should go to Old MR
- 7:13Speaker 1: or something. But I was like, no, I'm gonna stick
- 7:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna stick from my HBCU and I'm gonna lose
- 7:18Speaker 1: Jackson State because you know, they say you won't look
- 7:21Speaker 1: upon as a serious college student if you went to
- 7:24Speaker 1: to h b c US. So, thank god out and
- 7:26Speaker 1: listened to quote unquote day whoever they are. You know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's always a day they said this, they said that.
- 7:31Speaker 1: But thank god I didn't listen to them, because I
- 7:33Speaker 1: learned a lot at Jackson State as well, and I
- 7:36Speaker 1: graduated from grad school at the age of one, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: I came out here and got right into the whole
- 7:42Speaker 1: background standing and everything. So yeah, it was it's been
- 7:45Speaker 1: a journey. I'm just blessed. Now you got a small guy.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You know, you're over six ft, right, I'm six ft
- 7:52Speaker 1: five and a half. Yeah, okay, so listen. That's the
- 8:00Speaker 1: other thing said. You are to see you on another level,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you know a lot, because you know, a drum major
- 8:05Speaker 1: that has to be at least six tall, and I
- 8:09Speaker 1: don't understand that for the A and M. When I
- 8:12Speaker 1: first saw them, those dudes, each one there was like
- 8:14Speaker 1: six nine because people have to see you absolutely, I'm like, okay, cool,
- 8:21Speaker 1: but they had after I left, they got a drum
- 8:23Speaker 1: major he was like five two or something. But you
- 8:28Speaker 1: have to be tall, so people, but then you also
- 8:31Speaker 1: have to be able to be tall and move and
- 8:34Speaker 1: fluid and so because it reads what I'm saying it
- 8:38Speaker 1: because you know, because college prepares you so so many things,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and I'm just gonna read I'm saying that as a
- 8:45Speaker 1: freshman he was a drum major and then HBCU ms
- 8:49Speaker 1: A Valleys date. Okay, right there. You know the the
- 8:52Speaker 1: amount of confidence is overwhelming in a sense because you
- 8:56Speaker 1: were blessed to be able to believe in yourself. Because
- 8:58Speaker 1: now you're taking that same courage, the same I've been out,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I've been there before, i've been in front, I've been
- 9:04Speaker 1: tested to l a and you're achieving a lot of success.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Like I said, man, and I love what you said
- 9:11Speaker 1: when people told you, hey, man, don't do back to back.
- 9:13Speaker 1: HBC used people drop in and trying. That's why always
- 9:16Speaker 1: tipped the front. Don't let nobody get in your dreams
- 9:20Speaker 1: or playing your future. Not your family, friends, coworkers, nobody.
- 9:23Speaker 1: That's why I always said it up time and you
- 9:25Speaker 1: you speak to truth right now, I'm telling you because
- 9:28Speaker 1: if you let anybody put the price on you everybody
- 9:31Speaker 1: loves a clearance cell. They're always gonna cheat you. So
- 9:34Speaker 1: never let anybody tell you what you can't do. And
- 9:37Speaker 1: if you if they tell you, know you're just speaking
- 9:39Speaker 1: to the wrong person, right, So go found that person
- 9:41Speaker 1: and figure it out. But like you said, HBCUs taught
- 9:44Speaker 1: me a lot. It taught me drive, It taught me focused,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and it taught me never to take no for an answer.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Um and always there's always a will. Where there's a will,
- 9:53Speaker 1: there's a way, and hard work always pays off. So
- 9:56Speaker 1: even when I got here, I wasn't thinking like, oh,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna get discovered out of gas station. I was like, Okay,
- 10:01Speaker 1: where do I need? I know there's work to do.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Where do I need to do? Where do I need
- 10:05Speaker 1: to go to get that work to make sure I'm
- 10:07Speaker 1: where I'm supposed to be. And I went Scott to
- 10:10Speaker 1: acting classes and everything else and the rest is history. Okay. Cool?
- 10:13Speaker 1: And the cool part about it when we're talking here
- 10:16Speaker 1: about your career, about going through this whole process of
- 10:18Speaker 1: defining you, And that's what I love about when when
- 10:22Speaker 1: when I try to bring people on the show like
- 10:24Speaker 1: my my my show airs on YouTube, airors on but
- 10:29Speaker 1: It also airs on nine HBCU campuses intentionally intentionally and uh.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And so when we talk about you man and representing
- 10:38Speaker 1: and your philanthropy, because we're gonna go we're gonna get
- 10:40Speaker 1: talking about a Little Black Book. Of course, we're gonna
- 10:42Speaker 1: talk about be positive. But I really wanted to talk
- 10:44Speaker 1: about you because you're an inspiration brother, you know, inspiration
- 10:48Speaker 1: and a very well timed inspiration. And and I want
- 10:52Speaker 1: to go to the famous commercial because you six five
- 10:55Speaker 1: now as motak you don't look six five. You look
- 10:58Speaker 1: by five too because you ain't got no letter. He
- 11:01Speaker 1: got it right here too. The money, yeah, the motor
- 11:09Speaker 1: of it all, and it's so funny. I love the
- 11:10Speaker 1: ways you say confidence because I felt like I didn't
- 11:13Speaker 1: have a lot of confidence growing up. And that's why
- 11:15Speaker 1: I wrote these books of um like Blackie came from
- 11:18Speaker 1: me not liking my skin color. And so I say
- 11:22Speaker 1: all that to say. When I went out for the motor,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not doing this. This is crazy.
- 11:26Speaker 1: They're not gonna pick me. Why me? And my best
- 11:28Speaker 1: friend jamaal Um he was like, tee, you gotta go.
- 11:31Speaker 1: It was raining the l a and something like they
- 11:33Speaker 1: don't be driving like gremlins in the rain. I'm not
- 11:36Speaker 1: gonna be driving like forty minutes outside. So I was, okay,
- 11:39Speaker 1: let me just do it. And I went there and
- 11:41Speaker 1: I did it, and I got the call back, and um,
- 11:44Speaker 1: the director was so amazing. The first thing he did
- 11:46Speaker 1: he stood up, and that was unusual. He stood up
- 11:48Speaker 1: and came to me before I auditioned and gave me
- 11:50Speaker 1: a handshake, looked me in my eyes and told me
- 11:53Speaker 1: that there was only a couple of people I can see,
- 11:55Speaker 1: and you was one that I knew I needed to
- 11:57Speaker 1: see because of your confidence. And I'm like, but there's
- 12:01Speaker 1: a reason for everything. So I didn't go through all
- 12:04Speaker 1: the craziness and you know, the losses and getting all
- 12:07Speaker 1: those elves and then having to grow, I would have
- 12:10Speaker 1: not been the person I was, and you know the
- 12:13Speaker 1: man who I am now to actually even get into
- 12:15Speaker 1: the motor of it all because they said he exhumed
- 12:18Speaker 1: confidence and to me, I was like, oh, I'm just
- 12:20Speaker 1: being myself, right, Um yeah, because you have to be confident.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You have man have motorcycles. So you're really looking like
- 12:28Speaker 1: who's looking at who are you in his world or
- 12:31Speaker 1: he in the our world? But it's all that, but
- 12:33Speaker 1: we got some amazing ones coming up on the fifte Okay,
- 12:36Speaker 1: you guys want to see a way more of his personalities. Okay,
- 12:39Speaker 1: we would let me know because I want to dropped
- 12:41Speaker 1: in on my social and my news my weekly news
- 12:44Speaker 1: letter to you know, because I've honor you, especially with
- 12:46Speaker 1: the fact that you know, I knew in your in
- 12:49Speaker 1: your body is only mentions Mississippi Valleys thing. So I
- 12:52Speaker 1: got a really honor you. You you're you're too tired
- 12:54Speaker 1: hbc U. You know, so that that's the love I
- 12:57Speaker 1: got to give you a name. But that's all I
- 12:59Speaker 1: was just saying earlier, is that is that because HBCU
- 13:03Speaker 1: and you being a drama to prepared you and a
- 13:06Speaker 1: lot of people trivialize things when it becomes part of
- 13:08Speaker 1: your personality, part of your success story. And that's all
- 13:11Speaker 1: that guy was saying when he walked up to you.
- 13:13Speaker 1: He said, you're confident and then has been so built
- 13:16Speaker 1: into you going out there, going out knowing what you
- 13:20Speaker 1: had to do, sind you since you was a freshman,
- 13:24Speaker 1: knowing what you had to give. Now, I was like, okay,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you march God, damn, I'm tell yourself. I'm telling your
- 13:31Speaker 1: best men do, Mr Terrence Direct. What you don't do
- 13:37Speaker 1: is mess with me, brother, what'na do? Because because the
- 13:42Speaker 1: beauty of you, man is that is when I when
- 13:45Speaker 1: I look at your career. You know, we're going to
- 13:47Speaker 1: the boshow Amazon, you know, a batwoman, you know, the
- 13:49Speaker 1: First Wives Club, you know, comedy, you know, and then
- 13:53Speaker 1: you're playing a character that's not real, you're seeing through,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but you make it real. Because I remember how I
- 13:59Speaker 1: told my wife, I said, beebe and listen. I was like,
- 14:02Speaker 1: in the kid, I'm gonna interview motor. She said. I said,
- 14:05Speaker 1: the black dude who's hand man. He don't get it then.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And it's been such a blessing because the funny thing
- 14:15Speaker 1: is the grown men. I see grown men now they
- 14:18Speaker 1: go crazy about it. So a lot of people think
- 14:21Speaker 1: I'm Lebron James. When I have my mask man, the
- 14:24Speaker 1: guy follows and I always get like a random person
- 14:26Speaker 1: followed me through the grocery store and the guy followed me.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I was like, here we go again, and he keen James,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and I took my mask off. I said no. When
- 14:34Speaker 1: I did take it off, I said no. He just
- 14:36Speaker 1: stood there like, let me see my mask off, and
- 14:40Speaker 1: he screamed. You're like, oh, so he wouldn't leave. I
- 14:45Speaker 1: took a picture with him. But it's like you get
- 14:47Speaker 1: the big motorcycle guys, tattoos and the beers. Oh my god,
- 14:51Speaker 1: you're the MOLTOI You're the moltour. So it's it's so cool.
- 14:54Speaker 1: It's so it's just a blessing to being you know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: all right, I didn't. I wouldn't never thought. You know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: you come out here, you just think you want to
- 15:00Speaker 1: do one thing. I just want to be on a
- 15:02Speaker 1: show or just one show. Give me one show. In
- 15:05Speaker 1: that year, I was like, just give me one commercial.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I end up doing five two days, and then now
- 15:11Speaker 1: it's up to almost twenty eight commercials with amazing company.
- 15:14Speaker 1: It's all it's just all been amazing ride. And I
- 15:18Speaker 1: think I know the reason I'm blessed because I continue
- 15:21Speaker 1: to give even when I may not even have. At
- 15:24Speaker 1: the same time, I know how special this to be
- 15:27Speaker 1: in this space, so I never take anything for granted.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Every time I put on that w B line, I
- 15:31Speaker 1: used to watch that when I was a child, So
- 15:33Speaker 1: pulling onto those gates every day of the week, it's like,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I really just I just know I'm blessed. It's finally here,
- 15:40Speaker 1: the season of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate
- 15:44Speaker 1: with family and friends, whether you're preparing for reys, magos
- 15:47Speaker 1: or Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass,
- 15:51Speaker 1: Coals has just what you need to make those traditions special.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Plus you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send
- 15:58Speaker 1: warm wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Support minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from
- 16:06Speaker 1: Human Nation and shame moisture, or treat them to everyone's
- 16:10Speaker 1: favorite activewear from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and under Armor.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares is donating
- 16:18Speaker 1: eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed to the
- 16:22Speaker 1: health and well being of our communities. No matter how

- 17:37Speaker 1: been there, man doing Jamie Fox, you know, pull it
- 17:40Speaker 1: up on the error man. And because very few people
- 17:42Speaker 1: allowing that gate, brother, you know that, you know you're
- 17:45Speaker 1: walking the gates. Very few of us, you know, in
- 17:48Speaker 1: those gates. And so I've been on Paramount lot w
- 17:51Speaker 1: B lot, you know, all the Sony lots, you know
- 17:54Speaker 1: all those blots. Man, when they say your name and
- 17:56Speaker 1: then you you come on there so much, I'll go
- 17:59Speaker 1: home by Terry. You know, that's when you go. Yeah,
- 18:02Speaker 1: this is just the feeling I want to keep, just
- 18:04Speaker 1: the feeling I want to have because that's that's that's
- 18:07Speaker 1: a very small club, Tarantee, and you know that's a club,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and it's a even with the show. This this is
- 18:14Speaker 1: a real life and it feels so good because every
- 18:16Speaker 1: character I've been blessed to play it's a mirror to
- 18:18Speaker 1: real people. And my grandmother was one of dialysis dressed
- 18:22Speaker 1: like Diana Ross, and she will always say she's making
- 18:24Speaker 1: dialysis entertaining, how what's what? And so now I'm literally
- 18:29Speaker 1: making dialysis educating people every week, but making it entertaining
- 18:33Speaker 1: as well. So it's all it's it's but at the
- 18:36Speaker 1: same time, I know it's a responsibility. So even walking
- 18:38Speaker 1: I might be going too deep, but even walking on there,
- 18:41Speaker 1: I'm like, Wow, Like the Sydney Portier's and all these
- 18:44Speaker 1: amazing people paved the way for me to be here.
- 18:46Speaker 1: So I take every day very very serious and I
- 18:49Speaker 1: know that I'm in the space to allow more space
- 18:53Speaker 1: for us. Absolutely, and you have to because you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: and you know the reason I really enjoyed talking to you.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You know, first of all, I want to congratulate you
- 19:02Speaker 1: on the daytime Emmy. I'll standing support the actor in
- 19:05Speaker 1: the digital drive and you know what I'm talking about, Ima,
- 19:08Speaker 1: And I tell people all the time I introduced a
- 19:10Speaker 1: lot of people. They'll say, nominated five times, nominated for
- 19:16Speaker 1: Image Award. You know what I'm saying. You know what
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm saying. So I know, dude, when you win one,
- 19:21Speaker 1: you best put that in your bio because it's rand
- 19:25Speaker 1: It's the introduced how they got to be like Emmy Award.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Because I'm still very humbles, I'm like you want to
- 19:32Speaker 1: I'm like, oh yeah, yeah. When I get introduced Emmy Award,
- 19:34Speaker 1: where actor, It's like, oh I I can I interview
- 19:41Speaker 1: a lot of people nominated for Grammy, named nominated for
- 19:46Speaker 1: and in me, dude, I said, I'm telling you had
- 19:50Speaker 1: the longest bio I've ever read. But I said to
- 19:52Speaker 1: I gotta tell everybody's story. I'm not I'm not gonna
- 19:56Speaker 1: leave anything out. I'm not gonna shut change you because
- 19:58Speaker 1: I knew you knew assist. So I don't know you personally,
- 20:02Speaker 1: but your journey needs to be told. And when I
- 20:05Speaker 1: when I see these things, like you know, daytime in
- 20:08Speaker 1: me in the drama series, that's a whole about we're
- 20:10Speaker 1: just telling no, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't slaunch that
- 20:13Speaker 1: I introduced too many people in this show. Just say
- 20:16Speaker 1: nominated as a credit. Okay, he's one. Okay. And so
- 20:21Speaker 1: because I did that too, I remember, I remember I
- 20:23Speaker 1: actually lost one of my Image Awards. You know, I
- 20:26Speaker 1: lost it, you know what I'm saying because I didn't understand.
- 20:29Speaker 1: My head was down, just grinding, grinding, grinding. So so
- 20:32Speaker 1: I tell people I want two image I want three
- 20:35Speaker 1: Image Awards for all lost one because I don't know
- 20:37Speaker 1: where it is that you know. And now mad because
- 20:41Speaker 1: when I wanted that, because I was the first one
- 20:42Speaker 1: I want, and I didn't feel to see the value
- 20:45Speaker 1: in it until now. So when you said mine's right there, hey, brother,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you damn right this right there because you wanted you want.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Keeps me humble though, because even after I wanted my
- 20:57Speaker 1: manager call and she was. She drove me home because
- 20:59Speaker 1: I was tired. I was on eight planes that week.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I just wrapped a show I was doing at four
- 21:04Speaker 1: am in Atlanta. I got on a plane at six
- 21:07Speaker 1: guy here at twelve, got dressed, got on his on
- 21:10Speaker 1: his red carpet one Emmy, and came right back home
- 21:13Speaker 1: and went to sleep, and got back on the plane
- 21:15Speaker 1: and left the next day. So it was it was
- 21:18Speaker 1: a whirlwind. And I remember being a car where her
- 21:20Speaker 1: We're driving and she's like, and the Emmys huge, just
- 21:23Speaker 1: like this big. It came in a huge box. And
- 21:26Speaker 1: she's like, you know, you gotta work even harder now.
- 21:29Speaker 1: And I'm like, can I just get a couple of
- 21:30Speaker 1: seconds to breathe? And she's like, no, You're gonna have
- 21:33Speaker 1: to work even harder because people don't think that, you
- 21:35Speaker 1: think you don't have the audition to do anything else.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh no, never that. But that comes
- 21:40Speaker 1: from the hbc U mindset, you know. I mean, it's like, okay, cool,
- 21:45Speaker 1: thank you so much, we got that, but there's so
- 21:48Speaker 1: much more to go. I'm talking to the star Terence
- 21:52Speaker 1: to Rail, you know double HBCU are you know? Start
- 21:55Speaker 1: the series be Positive of CBS, produced by the incredible
- 21:59Speaker 1: Chuck glory Um. Just just just google his name. You
- 22:03Speaker 1: go this brother's blessed tears was blessed and he told
- 22:07Speaker 1: so the infamous black people listen up. He's small talk,
- 22:13Speaker 1: but let's talk about your character. Be positive, man. You
- 22:16Speaker 1: know you're an athlete. You know that really kind of
- 22:19Speaker 1: like being humbled by this barbio dialysis talk about you
- 22:23Speaker 1: because you really you know, when these characters, you know
- 22:26Speaker 1: where they have a lot of lines, a lot are not?
- 22:28Speaker 1: A lot are not? You still have to be able to,
- 22:31Speaker 1: you know, give a range and give a thought process
- 22:34Speaker 1: to where that characters is. You already got the natural bills,
- 22:37Speaker 1: so you look like an athlete. In fact, you actually
- 22:40Speaker 1: carried to lead out of one episode. How small as
- 22:46Speaker 1: this guy eighty pounds talking was so funny because they
- 22:48Speaker 1: said you have picked up so literally, I wasn't trying
- 22:51Speaker 1: to like I didn't know until I watched it. I
- 22:53Speaker 1: threw him up in the air. But when I saw
- 22:57Speaker 1: he threw him in the area. But it's so funny
- 23:01Speaker 1: because in high school and you know, you go through
- 23:04Speaker 1: these different things. And I was skinny and my head
- 23:06Speaker 1: always been this side since I was five. I always
- 23:09Speaker 1: look like babo head looking thing. So I started gaining
- 23:13Speaker 1: weight and getting bigger. I got hit one time playing
- 23:16Speaker 1: football in high school and I quit. I never played
- 23:18Speaker 1: so now so ironic, I get a football role and
- 23:23Speaker 1: then I get to, you know, shine a light on
- 23:25Speaker 1: my grandmother's actual journey through dialysis. And like you said,
- 23:29Speaker 1: it's it's a lot of work in multi cam. I've
- 23:31Speaker 1: done single cam, I've done drama. Those are literally a
- 23:34Speaker 1: walk in apart compared to multi camp. Multi cam. I'm
- 23:38Speaker 1: on set. We're practicing Monday through Wednesday, and then we
- 23:42Speaker 1: shoot Wednesday night. We shoot Thursday and Friday. So you're
- 23:45Speaker 1: working and you're acting from your toes all the way
- 23:48Speaker 1: up to your head. You're exhausted that night. So it's
- 23:51Speaker 1: a whole different type of sport. Yeah, that's a sport.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Multi cam is like going to the Olympics. It's like
- 23:56Speaker 1: you have to especially if there's a live audience, so
- 23:59Speaker 1: you have to make the joke, hold the joke because
- 24:01Speaker 1: you gotta think about when people laugh. You gotta come
- 24:04Speaker 1: back into the next line with the same energy that
- 24:06Speaker 1: you left off without dropping. Right. It's a lot, right,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you know, because I've done multis you know, Rod and
- 24:13Speaker 1: produced Jamie Foxx and Sister Sister, so I know it's
- 24:17Speaker 1: a lot of work, and even if you're not in
- 24:19Speaker 1: that moment and on camera, you gotta stay there because
- 24:22Speaker 1: the camera's on. They shot, Yeah, I think I was
- 24:30Speaker 1: gonna said last week. And we did three weeks straight.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Usually two weeks or two weeks, one week off. We
- 24:36Speaker 1: did three weeks straight and I was doing my scene
- 24:39Speaker 1: with Annelie and they said, okay, hold Terence moved for
- 24:42Speaker 1: the light. I saw her light and he like, no
- 24:44Speaker 1: to you. There's two cameras over. Let's talk about your book. Man.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I don't want to leave this interview without talking about
- 24:55Speaker 1: what's like. I said, you know, we go through these
- 24:57Speaker 1: things and we um we forget it how we got
- 25:01Speaker 1: where we are. And I feel like you never can
- 25:03Speaker 1: forget where you You have to see where you were
- 25:06Speaker 1: to know where you're going. So when I first started
- 25:08Speaker 1: these books, I was very you know, in the South,
- 25:10Speaker 1: we don't go to therapy, we go to church. So
- 25:13Speaker 1: I end up morning therapy getting some stuff out. And
- 25:15Speaker 1: I realized that I had a lot of insecurities from childhood.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So I didn't like my skin colder. I told you
- 25:20Speaker 1: about that story. So then I wrote a book about
- 25:22Speaker 1: a little dark boy Lawns what Melan it is. It's
- 25:26Speaker 1: called Blackie, which I've been called, but I turned into
- 25:29Speaker 1: the acronyms be loving or doing Karen and kind of
- 25:31Speaker 1: yourself about loving yourself. So for a little black boys,
- 25:35Speaker 1: showing them that their kings. Um. And then I wrote
- 25:37Speaker 1: the second one after my mother pass and she's Superheroes
- 25:41Speaker 1: every Day, educates us on DNA. Then the fourth third
- 25:44Speaker 1: book right here we go. Then the Crown kids were
- 25:47Speaker 1: bringing all the kids together, and then this last book
- 25:50Speaker 1: happened after the George Floyd. Um, I was. I'm a
- 25:54Speaker 1: mentor for Mrs Tina Knows loss In and Mr Richard
- 25:57Speaker 1: Tina's Angels and Richard's Law Uh Warriors, and we had
- 26:02Speaker 1: the week of George Floyd. The kids we had we
- 26:04Speaker 1: meet with them every Monday and they were crying, like, hey,
- 26:08Speaker 1: just imagine eighty kids in the zoom call you see
- 26:10Speaker 1: these windows and you can't touch them and hug him
- 26:12Speaker 1: and let them know it's gonna be okay because of
- 26:14Speaker 1: the pandemic. And they were crying and I'm turning my chair.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm crying, as Teena's crying. Everybody's crying, and um, the
- 26:20Speaker 1: Asian one of the little girls, just like are they
- 26:22Speaker 1: all kill me because of my I'm black, you know,
- 26:25Speaker 1: and I'm gonna be on the news and get shot
- 26:27Speaker 1: down because I'm black. And I just remember leaving a
- 26:30Speaker 1: meeting like what I'm not doing enough. I'm not doing enough.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I need to show them that they're special that, you know,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and um, skin Deep came up where when I tried
- 26:37Speaker 1: to wash my skin color off, and so that's when
- 26:40Speaker 1: I knew animated short that we're going up on Oscar for.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And then my Little Black Book where I'm educating the
- 26:47Speaker 1: kids on different things like you know, to sell the
- 26:50Speaker 1: marsh but also all these amazing inventors you know where
- 26:54Speaker 1: in the world would literally be dark, you know, because
- 26:57Speaker 1: we were responsible for the lightbulb as well. So so
- 27:00Speaker 1: my Little Black Book. So it's a series of book
- 27:02Speaker 1: and the whole brand is called Crowned Me because we
- 27:04Speaker 1: don't need to wait for anybody to tell us we're special.
- 27:07Speaker 1: You crown yourself and you tell yourself you're special. Because
- 27:10Speaker 1: in the books, the kids don't get any special powers.
- 27:13Speaker 1: The power comes from self love and self worth. At
- 27:16Speaker 1: the same time, I knew I had to own it,
- 27:18Speaker 1: so I own all my books, self published them, so
- 27:21Speaker 1: I own them right out. So money, money making conversations, right.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I got my ownership because we don't get top half
- 27:28Speaker 1: of the stuff that other people already know from from birth.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I mean, I don't even know what an investment account
- 27:33Speaker 1: was until a couple of days ago. I'm still learning.
- 27:37Speaker 1: We just have to open our minds to different things,
- 27:39Speaker 1: like now, how can we get this book is on
- 27:41Speaker 1: your website? Yeah, here we go, money make coming right?
- 27:46Speaker 1: So you go to I crown me dot com, which
- 27:48Speaker 1: is my website. At first, I wanted to be on
- 27:50Speaker 1: Amazon all these other stuff. But Amazon takes fifty to
- 27:54Speaker 1: seventy percent of your money if you sell on there.
- 27:57Speaker 1: So I'm like, so I sold a hundred and some
- 28:00Speaker 1: of the books there, and I remember getting a check
- 28:02Speaker 1: for less than two hundred dollars. This is my work.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Why am I giving you seting percent of my work?
- 28:07Speaker 1: And all y'all doing is put on website. So I
- 28:09Speaker 1: was like, let me do my own website and make
- 28:11Speaker 1: sure it's you know, efficient and so and plus I
- 28:14Speaker 1: like to sign each book and let the kids know
- 28:16Speaker 1: that I see them physically. It's a lot of work,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but I did it that way so I can own
- 28:21Speaker 1: my own stuff and now with these conversations coming up
- 28:24Speaker 1: this week, with dream Works and all these amazing people
- 28:27Speaker 1: who want to buy into my books or create the
- 28:30Speaker 1: series out of it. I it's just me. I don't
- 28:32Speaker 1: have to worry about a room full of people who
- 28:34Speaker 1: own part of my work. It's just me. I own
- 28:36Speaker 1: everything all the way down to the eyebrows. I love it, man,
- 28:40Speaker 1: And you know the beauty of this interview. Man, it's
- 28:42Speaker 1: just talking about a self built person. You know what
- 28:46Speaker 1: I'm saying, motivated by and not denied by who you
- 28:50Speaker 1: are because we don't get those those those people who
- 28:52Speaker 1: those people who try to I call him to step
- 28:55Speaker 1: into your dream and making an ugly experience. And you're
- 28:59Speaker 1: saying right now, your size, we're gonna stop you. When
- 29:02Speaker 1: you was born, we're going to stop you. Your color,
- 29:04Speaker 1: your skin wasn't gonna stop you. Then you flip the
- 29:06Speaker 1: switch and you're there for people who don't look like you. Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 1: we have to we have to give it back. And
- 29:14Speaker 1: we can't fight this, this these crazy times with hate.
- 29:17Speaker 1: We can't fight the quote unquote racist with Hey, we
- 29:20Speaker 1: have to fight them with love and education. So you
- 29:24Speaker 1: can't fought somebody for being ignorant to a subject. Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I mean we can educate them on that subject and
- 29:32Speaker 1: after you do what you After I give your information,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you do what you want with it. But I've done
- 29:36Speaker 1: my part in this moment. So we just have to
- 29:38Speaker 1: leave with love. And I really really believe in that
- 29:40Speaker 1: and everything that you're going through. You know that's happening
- 29:43Speaker 1: for a reason. So the single mom, been on whearfair
- 29:46Speaker 1: food stamps, all that stuff built character for me. Now,
- 29:49Speaker 1: so I know that all of that happened for a reason.
- 29:52Speaker 1: So you have to walk and cry. You don't get
- 29:54Speaker 1: to sit and cry. You gotta walk and cry. CBS.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Be positive. That's the perfect name for who you are. Brother.
- 30:01Speaker 1: You are positive for man. When I just said it
- 30:04Speaker 1: and just looked at you smiling, when keep you couldn't
- 30:07Speaker 1: be on the better show this associate with your brand, man,
- 30:09Speaker 1: because you're positive. It's been and Chuck Lori of all
- 30:13Speaker 1: people and mark them what they were like, yeah you
- 30:19Speaker 1: know he did this? This This was like yeah, what
- 30:23Speaker 1: he can actually stop straight to the topazing he's rich man.
- 30:27Speaker 1: And so again I want to I'm gonna put the
- 30:29Speaker 1: link into my newsletter because I'm gonna I'm gonna send
- 30:31Speaker 1: you some direct money making conversation. He did it. I'm
- 30:35Speaker 1: gonna dropping in there. But more importantly, man, uh, I'm
- 30:37Speaker 1: looking forward to the commercials who tell your team to
- 30:39Speaker 1: get back to new Motar commercials so I can get
- 30:41Speaker 1: on my social media and just start helping you promote
- 30:44Speaker 1: your brand because as they say, you be positive, brother,
- 30:47Speaker 1: because you stay positive because you are positive. Okay, thank
- 30:51Speaker 1: you for doing what you're doing. Thank you for keeping
- 30:53Speaker 1: This is the best tererview R I've ever had. You
- 30:55Speaker 1: did a drum major move, so I'm good. This is
- 31:00Speaker 1: made by gow hey hey, hey man? Who what black dude? Who? Who?
- 31:16Speaker 1: I didn't thank you? God? It going on? Didn't want
- 31:18Speaker 1: to be you, didn't want to be you. That's going
- 31:21Speaker 1: hold hey, I'm telling something. I love you boy man again. Brother,
- 31:28Speaker 1: thank you for changing your set right if you came
- 31:32Speaker 1: with the fire, I was like, hold up down, you

- 31:36Speaker 1: be right there the kid man. I love your brother,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and know that on your I'm on your list and
- 31:41Speaker 1: get this stuff I asked of you, and uh because
- 31:43Speaker 1: I want to sell some of your books and more
- 31:45Speaker 1: important that I I want to just keep pumping you up.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Because brother, you fight, you fight. Thank you and thank
- 31:49Speaker 1: you for all your love and your entity. Man, there's
- 31:51Speaker 1: nobody like you. You need more you Okay, I appreciate
