- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning, everyone. Happy Friday.
- 0:18It is February 6, 2026. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan.
- 0:22You are listening to Connecting the Dots, the
- 0:25show where we take the chaotic scatter plot of
- 0:28the daily news and draw the lines to show you
- 0:31the bigger picture. We are coming to you live
- 0:33from the Snarfle Solutions Group Studios right
- 0:35here in Sacramento. And looking out the window
- 0:37this morning, we are off to a very, very classic
- 0:41Sacramento start. Oh, yeah. We've got that patchy
- 0:44valley fog sitting on the ground right now. But
- 0:45the forecast says it's going to burn off by mid
- 0:47morning. We're looking at a Mostly sunny day,
- 0:52high of 68 degrees. Which is, I mean, honestly,
- 0:55it's just rude to talk about considering what
- 0:57the rest of the country is dealing with right
- 0:58now. I know, I know. If you're listening to us
- 1:00from the Northeast or the Great Lakes, we are
- 1:02genuinely sorry. There's a serious Arctic cold
- 1:05front tracking across the region. Yeah, we're
- 1:07talking snow squalls, rapidly falling temperatures.
- 1:10And damaging wind gusts. The power outage maps
- 1:13are already lighting up in the mid -Atlantic.
- 1:15So if you're in those zones, please keep your
- 1:17devices charged and stay safe. And just to round
- 1:21out the map, the Pacific Northwest isn't escaping
- 1:23it either. Rain is returning in force this weekend.
- 1:26With snow at the higher elevations. So unless
- 1:29you're here in the valley or down south, it's
- 1:31a stay inside and drink coffee kind of weekend.
- 1:33Speaking of staying inside and watching screens,
- 1:35let's look at the money. It's Friday morning,
- 1:37and the markets are actually holding up surprisingly
- 1:39well. They are. The Dow Jones is up about half
- 1:41a percent, trading around 49 ,287. The S &P 500
- 1:46is creeping up, too, hovering just above 6 ,836.
- 1:51But the real story, as it has been all week,
- 1:53is crypto. If you just glance at the ticker this
- 1:56morning, Bitcoin looks great. It's up about 6
- 1:58.5%, trading around $66 ,932. But we have to
- 2:03put a massive asterisk on that green number.
- 2:05A huge one. Right. It's a bit of a relief rally.
- 2:08We are still down almost 15 % since Monday. It
- 2:11has been a brutal week for anyone holding digital
- 2:14assets. And we are going to get into exactly
- 2:16why that is happening a little later in the show.
- 2:17It's been a rollercoaster. And honestly, tracking
- 2:19that kind of volatility requires a level of focus
- 2:22I just did not have when I woke up. Uh -huh.
- 2:24Which brings us to our first partner for today's
- 2:26show. If you need the focus to track the market
- 2:28or just the energy to go shovel your driveway,
- 2:31you need to check out Strong Coffee. I have to
- 2:33admit, I was skeptical when we first got this
- 2:35into the studio because it's instant coffee.
- 2:38Right. And usually instant coffee tastes like,
- 2:40well, it tastes like sadness in hot water. It
- 2:43really does. But this is different. It is. Strong
- 2:46Coffee is premium. It genuinely tastes like a
- 2:49traditional slow brewed cup. But the kicker isn't
- 2:52just the taste. It's what's inside it. It is
- 2:55packed with 15 grams of protein, MCTs, and this
- 2:59is my favorite part, adaptogens like ashwagandha.
- 3:02That's the key. It gives you this really clean,
- 3:05sustained energy. It's not that spike and crash
- 3:07you get from a sugary latte. It is just efficient
- 3:09fuel. Exactly. If you want to try it, head over
- 3:12to strongcoffeecompany .com. And because you
- 3:14listen to us, you can use the promo code SNARFL,
- 3:16that is S -N -A -R -F -U -L, for 20 % off your
- 3:20entire purchase. All right, let's get into the
- 3:22Morningstar, our Snarfl Tech article report.
- 3:24We have three massive stories to unpack today.
- 3:27We're looking at Amazon's record -breaking spending
- 3:30spree, the mechanics behind that crypto crash,
- 3:33and a new AI tool that might just save you from
- 3:35PowerPoint hell. Let's start with the giant in
- 3:38the room. Amazon. They dropped their Q4 earnings
- 3:41yesterday and the headline number is just staggering.
- 3:45$213 .4 billion in revenue in just the fourth
- 3:49quarter of 2025. That's an all time record. They
- 3:52absolutely smashed expectations. And you'd think
- 3:55hearing that number, investors would be popping
- 3:57champagne. But they weren't. The stock actually
- 4:00dropped in after hours trading. So the question
- 4:02is why? They made more money than ever. But Wall
- 4:05Street is grumpy. It comes down to one word.
- 4:08CapEx. Capital expenditures. Right. CEO Andy
- 4:11Jassy came out and effectively told the market,
- 4:13we made a lot of money and now we are going to
- 4:16spend a monumental amount of it. They are forecasting
- 4:18$200 billion in capital spending for 2026. $200
- 4:23billion. Just to put that in perspective for
- 4:26everyone listening, that is roughly the GDP of
- 4:28a country like Greece or New Zealand. That is
- 4:30the amount of money Amazon is pouring back into
- 4:32the business in a single year. And that's a 50
- 4:35% increase from last year. Almost all of it is
- 4:38going toward the infrastructure race for artificial
- 4:40intelligence and, of course, AWS, their cloud
- 4:43service. It's a signal to the market that the
- 4:45AI wars are getting incredibly expensive. It's
- 4:48basically a high stakes poker game, and Amazon
- 4:50just shoved a mountain of chips into the middle
- 4:53of the table. And investors usually hate this
- 4:55in the short term. It eats into profits. They
- 4:58want dividends, they want buybacks. They do not
- 5:00necessarily want Amazon buying millions of GPUs.
- 5:03But Jassy is saying, if we don't spend this now,
- 5:06we lose the future. And they have the cash to
- 5:09do it because their other business lines are
- 5:11becoming absolute monsters. I mean, look at the
- 5:13ad revenue. Up 23 % to over $21 .3 billion. A
- 5:18lot of that is driven by Prime Video. Which we've
- 5:20all noticed. You can't escape the ads on there
- 5:22now. No, you can't. They're running ads in 16
- 5:24countries, reaching 315 million monthly viewers.
- 5:28And the content strategy is clearly working.
- 5:30Thursday Night Football just had its most watched
- 5:32season ever, averaging 15 million viewers. Yeah.
- 5:35And there's also a really interesting side note
- 5:37in the report about their content. They're getting
- 5:39into political documentaries, specifically that
- 5:42Melania documentary from Amazon MGM Studios.
- 5:46Right, this followed the lead up to the inauguration.
- 5:49It did, yeah. It made about $7 million on its
- 5:52opening weekend. But, and this is the fascinating
- 5:54part, purely from a financial standpoint, it
- 5:57cost them $40 million to acquire the rights.
- 6:00And another $35 million to market it. Yeah. So,
- 6:03doing the quick math there, That is definitely
- 6:06not a profit center. No, it's a loss leader But
- 6:09it shows they're willing to spend big even overpay
- 6:12for exclusive content that keeps people locked
- 6:15into the prime ecosystem Whether it's football
- 6:17or political docs, the goal is just keep you
- 6:19in the app. Exactly. But, you know, speaking
- 6:22of that ecosystem, there's a consumer angle to
- 6:25this $200 billion spend that really stood out
- 6:27to me. Delivery speeds. Oh, yeah. We all joke
- 6:29about ordering something and having it show up
- 6:31before we even close the app. Right. But the
- 6:33data backs it up. Speeds hit a record in 2025.
- 6:36They did. Prime members in the US received 8
- 6:39billion items the same day or the next day. Which
- 6:41is a 30 % increase year over year. It's a logistical
- 6:44miracle. It is. But we have to acknowledge the
- 6:47other side of that efficiency equation. The human
- 6:49cost. Exactly. While revenue and delivery speeds
- 6:53are at record highs, Amazon is cutting jobs.
- 6:56They just laid off 16 ,000 employees in corporate
- 6:59roles. They're calling it reducing layers. Reducing
- 7:02layers, which is very polite corporate speak
- 7:04for firing middle management. It is. And that
- 7:07brings recent cuts to around 30 ,000 people.
- 7:10It's just a stark reminder that in the tech world
- 7:13right now, efficiency often means fewer humans
- 7:17in the loop. They're trading payroll for compute
- 7:19power, betting on automation and AI overhead
- 7:21count. Which is a heavy transition, but let's
- 7:24pivot to our second story. We mentioned the Bitcoin
- 7:26bounce this morning, but we need to talk about
- 7:28the crash that preceded it. Bitcoin hit its lowest
- 7:30levels since November 2024 this week, dipping
- 7:33into that $60 ,000 range. And to give that context,
- 7:36that's a 50 % drop from the peak in October 2025
- 7:39when it was sitting at around $126 ,000. That
- 7:42is a massive amount of value just wiped out in
- 7:45a few months. So the question everyone is asking
- 7:47is, why? In 2024, the narrative was all about
- 7:50the Trump trade. Right. The idea was that the
- 7:52new administration would be crypto nirvana, strategic
- 7:56Bitcoin reserves, friendly regulations. What
- 7:59happened? Well, reality set in. The market is
- 8:02a forward looking machine. basically digested
- 8:05those promises last year. It priced them in.
- 8:07And now traders are looking at the actual macroeconomic
- 8:10reality, and a big part of that reality is the
- 8:12Federal Reserve. Right. Trump appointed Kevin
- 8:14Warsh to lead the Fed. And Warsh isn't exactly
- 8:17known for loving risky assets, is he? No, he
- 8:19is not. Warsh is viewed as hawkish. Historically,
- 8:22he favors higher interest rates, tighter money
- 8:25supply to fight inflation. OK, so for the listener
- 8:27who doesn't track Fed policy, why is that bad
- 8:30for Bitcoin? Because high interest rates are
- 8:33basically kryptonite for speculative assets.
- 8:35If you can get a guaranteed safe return in a
- 8:37bank account because rates are high, you are
- 8:40much less likely to gamble on a volatile digital
- 8:42coin. So when money becomes expensive to borrow,
- 8:46liquidity dries up and risky assets fall first.
- 8:49Exactly. But there was another dot to connect
- 8:51here that I found really fascinating. This wasn't
- 8:53just a Bitcoin story. It was a gold story. And
- 8:56usually. People think of those as opposites.
- 8:59Right. This is where it gets a little technical,
- 9:01but it's really interesting. Gold and silver
- 9:03prices also tanked recently. And when that happens
- 9:06to big institutional traders, it triggers something
- 9:09called a margin call. Let's break that down.
- 9:11What is a margin call in this context? OK. Imagine
- 9:14you borrowed money from a broker to buy a huge
- 9:17amount of gold. Suddenly the price of gold drops.
- 9:20The broker calls you and says, you owe us cash
- 9:23to cover that loss and you have to pay us right
- 9:26now. OK. You don't have the cash sitting in your
- 9:28account, but you do have Bitcoin. So what do
- 9:31you do? You sell the Bitcoin to pay the broker.
- 9:33Exactly. It was a deleveraging event. Traders
- 9:36were forced to treat Bitcoin like an ATM. They
- 9:39sold their crypto just to pay for the holes in
- 9:41their gold portfolios. Wow. So it's a reminder
- 9:43that crypto doesn't exist in a vacuum. Not at
- 9:46all. It's tied to the rest of the financial plumbing.
- 9:48And the splash damage here is wide. It's not
- 9:51just people holding the coin. Look at the companies.
- 9:54Coinbase is down. Robinhood is down. And strategy
- 9:57formally. MicroStrategy is hurting bad. Strategy
- 10:00is a huge example. They are currently underwater
- 10:03on their massive Bitcoin holdings. Their average
- 10:06purchase price is actually higher than the current
- 10:08trading price. That is a scary place to be for
- 10:11a company that has basically leveraged itself
- 10:13to the hilt to be a Bitcoin proxy. And even the
- 10:16Trump -related ventures took a hit. The World
- 10:18Liberty financial token was cut in half. The
- 10:21meme coin TrumpRab is down to a fraction of its
- 10:24inauguration price. It just shows you that momentum
- 10:26trades cut both ways. When the hype cycle breaks,
- 10:30gravity takes over very, very quickly. So the
- 10:32lesson is, politics can drive hype, but macroeconomics,
- 10:36interest rates, liquidity, the Fed that usually
- 10:40drives the long -term trend. Physics wins in
- 10:42the end. It always does. All right, let's move
- 10:44to our final story. And this one circles back
- 10:46to that AI theme, but in a way that might actually
- 10:48change your work day. This is for anyone who
- 10:51has ever stared at a blank PowerPoint slide and
- 10:53just wanted to scream. Huh. Yes. Anthropic has
- 10:57released a new AI model, Opus 4 .6, and they
- 11:00are introducing something called Agent Teams.
- 11:03This is a significant shift in how we think about
- 11:05AI. Up until now, most of us use AI like a chatbot.
- 11:09You ask a question, it gives an answer. It's
- 11:11very linear. Anthropic is changing that metaphor
- 11:13entirely. Instead of hiring a freelancer, you're
- 11:16hiring a department. That's the perfect analogy.
- 11:18Agent Teams allows multiple AI agents to work
- 11:21in parallel. So... Imagine a complex project.
- 11:24Instead of one AI trying to do steps 1 through
- 11:2710 in order. And getting confused halfway through.
- 11:29Right. You have one agent handling research,
- 11:31another writing code, a third writing documentation
- 11:34all at the same time coordinating with each other.
- 11:36That is wild. And they are saying this beats
- 11:38competitors in terms of autonomy. In agentic
- 11:41evaluations, which basically tests how well an
- 11:43AI can act on its own, it is beating GPT 5 .2.
- 11:47And a big reason is the context window. Opus
- 11:514 .6 has a 1 million token context window. Okay,
- 11:55let's unpack 1 million tokens for the non -engineers.
- 11:58What does it matter? Think of the context window
- 12:01as short -term memory. Most AIs forget what you
- 12:04told them 10 minutes ago if the conversation
- 12:06gets too long. It's like talking to someone with
- 12:08amnesia. Right, you have to keep reminding them,
- 12:11hey, remember, we are writing a Python script
- 12:13about finance. Exactly. A one million token window
- 12:17is like letting the AI read a stack of huge novels
- 12:21or thousands of lines of code and remember every
- 12:25single detail perfectly while it works. So it
- 12:27allows for much bigger, more complex projects
- 12:29because it doesn't lose the plot. Precisely.
- 12:31But here is the part that actually got me excited.
- 12:34They are explicitly targeting knowledge workers
- 12:36now, not just coders. They launched a Claude
- 12:39and PowerPoint plugin. This is the aha moment
- 12:42for the business world. It is. You can now build
- 12:44and edit presentations directly inside PowerPoint
- 12:47with Claude. No more generating text in a chat
- 12:50window, copying it, pasting it, fixing the formatting.
- 12:53You just tell Claude, make a slide about our
- 12:55Q4 revenue growth, and it builds the slide. It
- 12:58builds the slide. It creates the graph. It aligns
- 13:02the text. It even picks the colors. That is going
- 13:05to save so many hours of corporate drudgery.
- 13:08It feels like we are finally moving from AI as
- 13:10a toy to AI as a coworker. That's the trend.
- 13:14We are moving away from chat interfaces and into
- 13:17integrated workflows. The AI becomes invisible,
- 13:20just part of the software you already use. But
- 13:22connecting back to our first story, if AI can
- 13:25now manage teams of agents, and build the slide
- 13:29decks. It makes you wonder about those layers
- 13:31Amazon is reducing. It certainly does. The definition
- 13:34of work is changing right in front of us. If
- 13:37an AI agent can coordinate a project and build
- 13:39the final presentation, what happens to the project
- 13:42manager? That is the big question for 2026. Before
- 13:46we wrap up and send you off into your weekend
- 13:47though, we have one more tip for you. We talked
- 13:49about energy with strong coffee, but let's talk
- 13:52comfort. If you are planning to hit the links
- 13:54this weekend, maybe not on the East Coast, sorry
- 13:56guys, but anywhere else, you need to look at
- 13:58Skone. Skone is a fantastic sponsor of the show.
- 14:02They make premium golf shoes that don't just
- 14:04look good, they actually feel good. If you're
- 14:05walking 18 holes, your feet will thank you. And
- 14:08we hooked you up. You can use that same promo
- 14:11code SNARFL at checkout for 15 % off your entire
- 14:14purchase. The website is skone .com. Seriously,
- 14:18upgrade your footwear game. So let's recap the
- 14:21dots we connected today. First, Amazon. They
- 14:24are proving the AI race is incredibly expensive.
- 14:27$200 billion in capex is a number that's hard
- 14:30to even wrap your head around. But for us consumers,
- 14:32it means faster packages and smarter services,
- 14:35even if the market gets jittery and employees
- 14:37worry about their jobs. Second, Bitcoin. We saw
- 14:40that political hype has a shelf life. The Trump
- 14:43trade is fading, and the old rules of finance
- 14:46interest rates, liquidity, are back in the driver's
- 14:48seat. And when gold takes a hit, crypto often
- 14:51feels the pain because of those margin calls.
- 14:53And finally, Anthropic. We're seeing the evolution
- 14:56of AI from a chatbot to a team of agents. It's
- 14:58getting smarter, it has a better memory, and
- 15:00it's finally coming to the tools we use every
- 15:03day, like PowerPoint. It's a reminder that technology
- 15:06moves fast. One day you're tromping a chatbot,
- 15:09The next day, you're managing a team of AI agents.
- 15:12And one day, you're the manager. And the next
- 15:14day, the agent is the manager. That is a provocative
- 15:17thought to leave you with. We hope this helps
- 15:19you make sense of it all. We're here to help
- 15:21at Snarful, so reach out on our website if you
- 15:23have any more questions. Have a great weekend,
- 15:25everyone. Stay warm. See you Monday. That's a
- 15:31wrap on today's top stories. Remember, tech doesn't
- 15:34have to be complicated, and we're here to help
- 15:36connect the dots. If you've got questions or
- 15:39want to learn more, visit us at snarful .com.
