- 0:00An interesting verse today, James 5 .1. In chapter
- 0:045 of the book of James, in verse 1, it says,
- 0:08Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries
- 0:15which are coming upon you. The truth is, it's
- 0:19kind of ironic in a way, because on the one hand,
- 0:21people are good at weeping and howling. We want
- 0:24to complain about whatever our circumstances
- 0:26is. But the truth is, when we're feeling pretty
- 0:29rich, that may not be the time at which people
- 0:31are jumping on the weeping and moaning bandwagon.
- 0:37But we are warned by God that being a little
- 0:41too attached to your treasure is a little too
- 0:43dangerous for this lifetime. And so we need to
- 0:47realize we're all rich in one way or another
- 0:50and consider that if you're celebrating your
- 0:53riches, you're forgetting. that the author of
- 0:56those riches, whatever they might be, is God.
- 0:59And Jesus and others, Mary, Zechariah, a variety
- 1:05of individuals throughout Scripture, Paul, have
- 1:08warned James, this is the brother of Jesus, James,
- 1:11warned people, be careful about being rich, being
- 1:15excited about being rich, because if you've got
- 1:17a little too much, you're in big trouble for
- 1:20what's coming ahead of you. I would submit today
- 1:24that we're blessed and we should be grateful
- 1:27and we should look to God in obedience and in
- 1:30repentance and let him teach us how to use each
- 1:33of the resources that we've been blessed with.
- 1:36James 5 .1, Come now, you rich, weep and howl
- 1:40for your miseries are coming upon you. That's
- 1:43not going to be me if I can help it. Praise God,
- 1:45he's blessed me with a lot of things. I know
- 1:47he's blessed you too.
