- 0:00Speaker 1: Tom Holman, Christine Home.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Our people that have been incredible the job they've done,
- 0:06Speaker 2: and they take nothing but abuse, but you know, they're
- 0:09Speaker 2: sort of pretty.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hardened to that, I think because they know they're doing
- 0:12Speaker 1: the right thing.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It just amazes me that there's not more support out there.
- 0:16Speaker 2: It's just we actually have the silent support.
- 0:20Speaker 1: You're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's Stay the Union Day in America. Nice to have
- 0:26Speaker 2: you with us on the forty seven Morning Update. And
- 0:29Speaker 2: Donald Trump is aiming to sell his first year successes
- 0:33Speaker 2: in a crucial address to Congress ahead of the midterms.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So what is the President going to talk about and
- 0:39Speaker 2: what are the accomplishments that the media doesn't want you
- 0:42Speaker 2: to know about. I'll break it all down for you
- 0:44Speaker 2: right now, live from Washington, d C. It's the forty
- 0:47Speaker 2: seven Morning Update and it starts right.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Now story number one.
- 0:51Speaker 2: As I'm here in Washington, d C. For the Stay
- 0:53Speaker 2: of the Union. One of the fun things that happens
- 0:56Speaker 2: before the State of the Union is the briefings that
- 0:58Speaker 2: you receive. And I have the opportunity to sit down
- 1:01Speaker 2: for breakfast with Speaker Mike Johnson, Mike Johnson talked a
- 1:05Speaker 2: lot about what had been accomplished in the last year
- 1:08Speaker 2: under the leadership of President Trump, especially having a one
- 1:12Speaker 2: vote majority in the House and a slim majority in
- 1:16Speaker 2: the Senate. What they've been able to do is truly unbelievable.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But the President has got to convince Americans on Tuesday
- 1:23Speaker 2: Night of one major thing that you're better off now
- 1:27Speaker 2: because he's in office than if he wasn't in office.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And that means come the mid terms, if you want
- 1:33Speaker 2: the Trump doctrine of America First to continue, you've got
- 1:37Speaker 2: to stand up and support and show up to vote
- 1:41Speaker 2: for conservative candidates that Trump has endorsed. Now a lot
- 1:45Speaker 2: of people are asking what is going to be in
- 1:47Speaker 2: the state of the Union. That's exactly the question that
- 1:49Speaker 2: I asked Speaker Johnson as well as the Treasury Secretary
- 1:53Speaker 2: of Scott Besson on Sunday as I was meeting with him.
- 1:56Speaker 2: And here's what I have for you. Number One on
- 2:00Speaker 2: the present's going to be talking about the economy. In jobs,
- 2:03Speaker 2: Donald Trump will put economic performance front and center, calling
- 2:07Speaker 2: the US economy strong, booming, and growing better than before.
- 2:11Speaker 2: He's expected to highlight his tax cuts, his wage increases,
- 2:16Speaker 2: also consumer price trends, as well as American job growth.
- 2:21Speaker 2: He'll also frame much of his agenda around continued economic
- 2:25Speaker 2: expansion and lower costs for Americans. Part of that comes
- 2:29Speaker 2: from no tax on tips and no tax on overtime
- 2:33Speaker 2: that has just become a reality in this country. The
- 2:36Speaker 2: President will also spend a significant amount of time talking
- 2:39Speaker 2: about your safety. That includes the major issue of border
- 2:43Speaker 2: security and immigration. Border security and immigration control is going
- 2:48Speaker 2: to be a large part of the focus of the
- 2:51Speaker 2: president's words. Trump is likely to tout the reduction illegal crossings,
- 2:55Speaker 2: which have virtually gone to zero, as well as stricter
- 2:58Speaker 2: enforcement policy, while arguing this approach protects American jobs and
- 3:04Speaker 2: also national security. Oddly enough, with the recent cartel explosion
- 3:09Speaker 2: of violence in Mexico, there may be no better time
- 3:12Speaker 2: for the President to remind the American people of what
- 3:15Speaker 2: our secure borders are now keeping out. And then we'll
- 3:19Speaker 2: talk about trade and tariffs. He is expected to defend
- 3:24Speaker 2: his aggressive tariff strategy, which clearly has worked significantly promoting
- 3:29Speaker 2: American manufacturing and trade fairness, despite his recent challenges of
- 3:34Speaker 2: the Supreme Court. Trade policy will be framed as part
- 3:38Speaker 2: of building his national economic strength for all Americans. Foreign
- 3:44Speaker 2: policy and national security will be one in one I
- 3:47Speaker 2: being told from Speaker Johnson as well as the President
- 3:50Speaker 2: will likely touch on not only foreign policy, but global
- 3:53Speaker 2: positioning and national security, especially concerning tensions in the Middle
- 3:58Speaker 2: eastrategic competition with global rivals including China and Russia, and
- 4:05Speaker 2: using international developments as evidence of American strength. There's also
- 4:11Speaker 2: expected to be emphasis on crime reduction in this country,
- 4:15Speaker 2: the President making it clear that even if you're in
- 4:17Speaker 2: a liberal city, you deserve to be safe. The President
- 4:20Speaker 2: has done a significant amount to reduce crime in places
- 4:23Speaker 2: like Washington, d C. And Memphis, Tennessee, Saint Louis, Chicago,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and the list continues to grow. There's also going to
- 4:32Speaker 2: be discussions about healthcare and the proposals, as well as
- 4:36Speaker 2: prescription drug affordability and new initiatives to lower costs for families.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Republican leaders want focus on affordability issues that voters care
- 4:47Speaker 2: about the most. Now. Trump's speech will also serve as
- 4:51Speaker 2: a clear message on the midterms, which I mentioned a
- 4:54Speaker 2: moment ago. The President understands that essentially this this is
- 5:00Speaker 2: a rallying narrative for Republicans and reminding voters of what
- 5:05Speaker 2: is on the ballot come this November, as early voting
- 5:09Speaker 2: has already started in many of the primaries. It's clear
- 5:12Speaker 2: that Americans are thinking about all of these things, and
- 5:15Speaker 2: what the President has to do is remind voters of
- 5:17Speaker 2: his priorities and the framing of what happens if Republicans
- 5:21Speaker 2: lose the House or the Senate. Now there are also
- 5:25Speaker 2: just the big accomplishments that the President will be able
- 5:28Speaker 2: to talk about. Much of this the media refuses to discuss.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Real GDP growth is surged. Jobs has also outpaced the
- 5:37Speaker 2: gains in twenty twenty five, with strong job report coming in.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Blue collar wages saw significant increases, and workers' real earnings
- 5:47Speaker 2: have also grown. The President also can tout his real
- 5:52Speaker 2: tax reform with the Trump tax cuts making those earlier
- 5:56Speaker 2: cuts permanent. Creating Trump accounts for newborns will also be
- 6:00Speaker 2: selling the president. We'll talk about setting up the next
- 6:03Speaker 2: generation for financial success in a major way and having
- 6:08Speaker 2: those Trump accounts actually have real deposits put in them
- 6:11Speaker 2: day one. The President will also talk about what's about
- 6:14Speaker 2: to happen for so many Americans that work for tips
- 6:17Speaker 2: and those that work in overtime. That was a policy
- 6:21Speaker 2: agenda item that started yes last year, but after it
- 6:25Speaker 2: was passed, it didn't actually get enacted until this year,
- 6:29Speaker 2: meaning now is the first time people are really seeing
- 6:31Speaker 2: the difference in their paychecks. And then there's regulatory changes
- 6:36Speaker 2: that are aimed at supporting economic activity and innovation. Some
- 6:39Speaker 2: of those are going to make cars actually cheaper for Americans.
- 6:43Speaker 2: The President touting that that automatic on off start on
- 6:47Speaker 2: your car, that was bureaucrats just making the costs of
- 6:50Speaker 2: your car go up, and it also did serious damage
- 6:53Speaker 2: to your engine over the long term. Well, that's no
- 6:56Speaker 2: longer a mandate under the Trump administration, the presence saying
- 7:00Speaker 2: regulations are killing American jobs and also making Americans have
- 7:04Speaker 2: to pay way too much for basic things like a car.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Then the President will obviously talk about the success of
- 7:11Speaker 2: the southern border. What the President was able to do
- 7:13Speaker 2: in the first year is truly unbelievable. With the major
- 7:17Speaker 2: immigration crackdown and self deportations now into the millions and
- 7:20Speaker 2: millions of illegals that have left on their own. We
- 7:24Speaker 2: also know that the President is also tightening asylum rules
- 7:28Speaker 2: and deportations are expected to be at a record high
- 7:31Speaker 2: this year as well. Now implementation of high tariffs on
- 7:35Speaker 2: import of goods to protect US manufacturing and reduce trade deficits.
- 7:40Speaker 2: That is generating substantial tariff revenue, something the President will
- 7:44Speaker 2: talk about, even though the Supreme Court struck down part
- 7:48Speaker 2: of what he was actually able to accomplish. Foreign policy
- 7:52Speaker 2: and security, the increased sanctions the President has put on,
- 7:55Speaker 2: many rogue regimes and strategic designations against hostile enemies, and
- 8:00Speaker 2: foreign policy actions demonstrating America resolve, including declaring the Narcos
- 8:07Speaker 2: narco terrorists, which means that then America can go after
- 8:10Speaker 2: them in different ways. There's also affordability as part of
- 8:14Speaker 2: the speech, I was told by Speaker Johnson, initials aimed
- 8:17Speaker 2: at lowering prescription drug costs the President will be touting
- 8:21Speaker 2: as well, and reforming healthcare financing will be another part
- 8:25Speaker 2: of what you can expect in the speech. Now, all
- 8:27Speaker 2: of this also goes back to what Donald Trump has said,
- 8:30Speaker 2: and that is that our government just got way too big.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Previous administrations had massive amounts of regulations across climate, DEI
- 8:39Speaker 2: and other areas. The President will tout the dismantling or
- 8:43Speaker 2: reshaping of federal agency priorities, not to be about DEI hires,
- 8:47Speaker 2: but to be about what is best for the American
- 8:49Speaker 2: people and the workforce to do it in our government now,
- 8:53Speaker 2: there will be, no doubt, a celebration of the policies
- 8:56Speaker 2: that the President argues has strengthened the economy as well
- 9:00Speaker 2: as national security. There will be a political message aimed
- 9:03Speaker 2: at Republican voters, trying to inspire them to get out
- 9:07Speaker 2: and vote in the midterms. The President will talk about
- 9:09Speaker 2: that mid term convention as well to celebrate the candidates
- 9:13Speaker 2: before election day, and then there will be a real
- 9:16Speaker 2: effort from President Trump to appeal to Americans on cost
- 9:21Speaker 2: of living, jobs, and national sovereignty issues. At the same time,
- 9:27Speaker 2: it's very important to note that public opinion polls are
- 9:30Speaker 2: showing skepticism among some Americans about President Trump's performance, especially
- 9:36Speaker 2: on inflation, which they went down faster, even on the
- 9:39Speaker 2: issue of tariffs and foreign relations. The President is going
- 9:43Speaker 2: to have to make sure he connects on those issues
- 9:45Speaker 2: as well. This is exactly what the President of United
- 9:49Speaker 2: States of America is going to be focusing on, and
- 9:52Speaker 2: it's so important that every American understands what already has
- 9:55Speaker 2: been done, but where we're going moving forward.
