- 2:42Speaker 1: of Business Opportunity, and the winners will be on the
- 2:44Speaker 1: show today as well in the service, Product and Innovation.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Tell everybody you know. Rashean McDonald, the host of Money
- 2:51Speaker 1: Making Conversations, is on the air without further ado because
- 2:56Speaker 1: she's on the line. I saw on Friday my Feet
- 2:59Speaker 1: with Tired. They had me hosting the event. It was
- 3:02Speaker 1: a fantastic event in downtown Houston. My first guest is
- 3:06Speaker 1: the Business Development Coordinator for the City of Houston's Office
- 3:10Speaker 1: of Business Opportunity, which she helps to promote the success
- 3:13Speaker 1: and growth of local and small businesses in the City
- 3:17Speaker 1: of Houston. Please welcome to the show Money Making Conversations,
- 3:20Speaker 1: Abigail Gonzalezhy, thank you for having me on. The great introduction.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Come on now, Abigail, you know I was just with
- 3:28Speaker 1: your Friday. You know you've been on my show before
- 3:31Speaker 1: when I live on she was fantastic, so I got
- 3:34Speaker 1: I have a relationship with you, so you know what
- 3:36Speaker 1: I'm saying. Thank you And when first of all your love,
- 3:40Speaker 1: your personality. You're fantastic and uh, every time I met you,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you've always had that that sign of opportunity excitement that
- 3:49Speaker 1: lets me know that you really enjoy what you do. Correct, good,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I really do. I really like helping the people of Houston,
- 3:55Speaker 1: just as yourself. Thank you very much. Now, Friday, I
- 3:59Speaker 1: was there. You there. Now, that's the fifth year, correct
- 4:02Speaker 1: sponsor Capital Capital One And they've they've did over this
- 4:07Speaker 1: past year are when they've they've contributed over three hundred
- 4:11Speaker 1: and sixty six thousand dollars sponsorship dollars and in kie
- 4:15Speaker 1: rewards to the to the event. Correct, that is correct.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Capital One is our sponsor at the Houston Public Library
- 4:23Speaker 1: and the City of Houston's Office of Business Opportunity UM
- 4:27Speaker 1: co host this event for aspiring entrepreneurs or those who
- 4:31Speaker 1: are looking to start their businesses. And you know, Capital
- 4:34Speaker 1: One does a great job of helping us with this
- 4:36Speaker 1: project and of course funding these new businesses giving them
- 4:41Speaker 1: these huge prizes. Come come on, ain't nobody gonna show
- 4:44Speaker 1: up for data board? Okay? You know which. I really
- 4:50Speaker 1: loved the event, and uh the thing about it, well,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I set out and had dinner with Dr Lawson and
- 4:55Speaker 1: this right, and and she really and and and let
- 5:00Speaker 1: we know the importance of the libraries relationship with the
- 5:04Speaker 1: whole campaign. If you can give me a little detail,
- 5:07Speaker 1: because you know, I'm gonna tell you something. I learned
- 5:09Speaker 1: a little bit about it because I told her the
- 5:11Speaker 1: library Starbucks was the new library. She looked at me,
- 5:14Speaker 1: gave me a hard look. She will she she wasn't
- 5:17Speaker 1: ready to hear that, and then she broke it down
- 5:19Speaker 1: to me. But I want you to tell everybody the
- 5:22Speaker 1: significance of that role. And Starbuck is not the new library.
- 5:26Speaker 1: The library is the library, and it plays a significant
- 5:29Speaker 1: role and so many small businesses and gaining information so
- 5:32Speaker 1: they can be successful your turn exactly. I mean, the
- 5:36Speaker 1: library is not the same old library you see on
- 5:39Speaker 1: the TV or that you remember where you have to
- 5:40Speaker 1: be quiet. This library, especially here in Houston, is so
- 5:45Speaker 1: supportive of small businesses. They have a small business development program.
- 5:49Speaker 1: They have so many free resources for people who want
- 5:52Speaker 1: to start their own businesses. Our competition actually refers to
- 5:56Speaker 1: people to the library because they have book send database
- 6:01Speaker 1: is full of business plans that you can look at
- 6:03Speaker 1: to make your own and they support these business owners.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Um and of course support the List Off Houston initiative.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So it is really important to know that they're not
- 6:12Speaker 1: just there to you know, lend out books, but they
- 6:15Speaker 1: have a bunch of free resources that they used to
- 6:18Speaker 1: help the community. So I think she's completely right. Um,
- 6:20Speaker 1: not only is she a fantastic director, but the library
- 6:23Speaker 1: just says so much to support the people of Houston. Well,
- 6:26Speaker 1: I would just tell you know when I said, when
- 6:29Speaker 1: I said that last, she said me straight now because
- 6:31Speaker 1: that it was a polite set straight. Because again I'm
- 6:37Speaker 1: one of those people just trivializes situations a lot of times,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you know, by by just making a just an offhanded
- 6:42Speaker 1: statement that you know, the library just someplace you're go
- 6:45Speaker 1: and read gather information. Like you just said, the library
- 6:49Speaker 1: isn't the library and you used to go to anybody
- 6:53Speaker 1: over going exactly exactly. And a lot of people don't
- 6:57Speaker 1: know that they um contribute to the West Off Houston
- 7:01Speaker 1: program until they actually start, and they just have so
- 7:04Speaker 1: many fantastic resources to provide them. We really try to
- 7:08Speaker 1: get people to realize that the library is there for
- 7:11Speaker 1: more than like you said, to shish people. And well,
- 7:15Speaker 1: let let let me bring everybody on board. Exactly what
- 7:18Speaker 1: we did on Friday. This is a fantastic program with
- 7:21Speaker 1: some information what happened. I hosted the event on Friday
- 7:23Speaker 1: and my producer in the cold. I'm just calling my
- 7:25Speaker 1: producer because he was producing me in a very good way.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And it was a it was a three hour event
- 7:30Speaker 1: and basically it was an opportunity for three and three
- 7:34Speaker 1: businesses to win thirty thou dollars. There was three categories
- 7:38Speaker 1: while each category was ten thousand dollars in each category,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and you had a fan category where if you voted
- 7:44Speaker 1: on the social media under the Twitter account, uh the
- 7:48Speaker 1: Facebook account, that person can win an additional five dollars
- 7:52Speaker 1: or if that's the only car price that they walked
- 7:54Speaker 1: away at least five hundred dollars. And the three categories
- 7:57Speaker 1: were Product, Service and Innovation and to be eligible because
- 8:01Speaker 1: it's gonna happen again. Correct, That is correct that we
- 8:05Speaker 1: do want folks to know that you if you did
- 8:07Speaker 1: not win or you did not compete in two thousand seventeen,
- 8:11Speaker 1: we have this competition every year. We launch in around
- 8:15Speaker 1: May June UM time frame and you can always follow us,
- 8:19Speaker 1: you know, on social media at West North Houston to
- 8:22Speaker 1: find out when we launch the application again so that
- 8:24Speaker 1: you don't miss that round. Because because to be eligible,
- 8:27Speaker 1: this is important, applicans must be in the start up
- 8:30Speaker 1: phase of their business, which means they either must have
- 8:33Speaker 1: a developed business idea or have a business in operation
- 8:37Speaker 1: for less than one year revenue of less than ten
- 8:40Speaker 1: thousand dollars. That's very important that people, you know, you
- 8:44Speaker 1: just can't be out there making a five hundred thousand
- 8:47Speaker 1: dollars or making a hundred thousand dollar talk about you're
- 8:49Speaker 1: gonna get in this contest. You know, this is really
- 8:52Speaker 1: a start up opportunity. And then three get categories product, service,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and innovation. Now here's the here's here's my whole thing
- 9:01Speaker 1: that I'm glad you said that because about if you did,
- 9:04Speaker 1: if you participated this year, you could actually come back
- 9:06Speaker 1: and and and and try to engage in an opportunity
- 9:09Speaker 1: of being the finals in the campaign. Correct, Yes, that's
- 9:13Speaker 1: correct to the only people who can't compete again as
- 9:15Speaker 1: the winners, because we can't just keep giving them money
- 9:19Speaker 1: when they've already they've already exceeded the ten thou dollars,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you know, exactly, so they're already done. So if you could,
- 9:25Speaker 1: if you participated in any way, or you competed, you pitched,
- 9:28Speaker 1: but you didn't win. You can participate again um in
- 9:31Speaker 1: two thousan eighteen, as long as you meet all of
- 9:33Speaker 1: the other requirements. Because I'm gonna just tell you, you know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I was on that stage and I'm I'm I'm an entrepreneur,
- 9:39Speaker 1: I'm a guy with an opinion. It was a couple
- 9:41Speaker 1: of them, you know, was a little fluff. You know,
- 9:44Speaker 1: they could have they could have engaged the process a
- 9:47Speaker 1: little bit more. And I think if they should look
- 9:50Speaker 1: back at what they what they did and realize that
- 9:53Speaker 1: the reason they didn't didn't finish number one is because
- 9:57Speaker 1: they didn't do the due diligence. They didn't do. And
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'm not gonna call out any names because they should
- 10:02Speaker 1: take this lesson. This is a powerful lesson because it
- 10:05Speaker 1: was the judges were great. The judges were passed winners,
- 10:09Speaker 1: uh and Laura vignag was one of the were judges
- 10:13Speaker 1: the representative Capital one and your judges from winners, judges
- 10:18Speaker 1: who had won ten thousand dollars in the three categories
- 10:20Speaker 1: of products, service, and innovation. They participated and so it
- 10:25Speaker 1: really was a detailed thing and I felt like it
- 10:29Speaker 1: was broadcast on Facebook. So you guys are really stepping
- 10:32Speaker 1: this up. So so I gotta ask this question now,
- 10:35Speaker 1: did I do Did I do what I was supposed
- 10:38Speaker 1: to do? Abigail? Did I see? You did a great
- 10:41Speaker 1: job to ask that question. You were fantastic and I
- 10:44Speaker 1: hope that that you help without you know, in the future,
- 10:46Speaker 1: because you did a great job. Well. I was happy
- 10:49Speaker 1: really that when I first got the autum to thank
- 10:51Speaker 1: you for the compliment. And I want to just say
- 10:53Speaker 1: that that you guys have something special. I want to
- 10:55Speaker 1: say that and uh and it should be promoted at
- 10:59Speaker 1: a high level. I feel that the room was packed
- 11:02Speaker 1: by the way everybody was. It was no seat left
- 11:05Speaker 1: in the in the venue and uh and I expect
- 11:07Speaker 1: that to be in because of the fact that it was.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It was just a strong level of excitement. AVGA, congratulations
- 11:15Speaker 1: on this. My next break, I'm gonna be bringing the
- 11:18Speaker 1: three winners of seventeen on the air. That was four
- 11:21Speaker 1: point on g p A a sale lifestyle at wander
- 11:24Speaker 1: Love Houston. And I'm not even writing, I'm not even
- 11:26Speaker 1: reading this. This is stuff from my memory. That's how
- 11:29Speaker 1: I engaged. That was in the process and when I've
- 11:31Speaker 1: just delivered this information. When you got a producer like Nicole,
- 11:34Speaker 1: you know, she drilled all this information in my head.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So I'll be carry this all the way to the
- 11:39Speaker 1: new year. I'm happy to hear that. Thank you so
- 11:42Speaker 1: much for the kind words. I appreciate it, and I
- 11:44Speaker 1: would see you soon and I would wish you a
- 11:46Speaker 1: great Thanksgiving this week and uh an amazing Christmas. And
- 11:49Speaker 1: we started talking and chopping it up in ten and
- 11:52Speaker 1: getting some ideas rolling and blow these things up. Blow
- 11:55Speaker 1: this thing to even bigger level and they're cool. Yeah,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I was four to it. Thank you so much, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: tell everybody hi, and tell everybody. I love the opportunity
- 12:04Speaker 1: and I so respect what you guys are doing. And
- 12:07Speaker 1: y'all hit into the great direction. You have a fantastic Mayor,
- 12:10Speaker 1: Sylvester Turner, who supports this event, and you guys keep winning.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Coming up next will be the three winners from twenty
- 12:17Speaker 1: seventeen in the categories are product, Sir, the Innovation. I
- 12:21Speaker 1: want to thank mcgirl Abigail for being on the show.
- 12:23Speaker 1: She's fantastic and I look forward to send her in
- 12:27Speaker 1: with Sean. Back with Sean McDonald will be back there
- 12:30Speaker 1: with more Money Making Conversations. Thank you very moneys. Hi,
- 12:37Speaker 1: welcome back. This is your Sean McDonald. You're host The
- 12:40Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation, a show where I interview CEO, industry
- 12:44Speaker 1: decision makers, small entrepreneurs and guess what they tell me
- 12:50Speaker 1: the secrets of their success as well. The celebrities on
- 12:53Speaker 1: this phone right now just wrapped a calling with the
- 12:55Speaker 1: fantastic Abigail Gonzalez and were talking about Lift Off Nest
- 12:59Speaker 1: that I hosted to past Friday. It's entrepreneurship. That's what
- 13:02Speaker 1: this That's what I talked about. Entrepreneurship and untram newership
- 13:05Speaker 1: can carry so many levels means in life, business, how
- 13:10Speaker 1: you approach your education is about a drive to be nothing.
- 13:14Speaker 1: They don't have the mentality of being an eight to
- 13:16Speaker 1: five person. You want to step out of that box.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You want to plan your life. You want to put
- 13:20Speaker 1: a business plan about your life. Together on the phone,
- 13:23Speaker 1: I have the three winners who participated in this Weekends,
- 13:27Speaker 1: this past Friday's event where I hosted, still on my
- 13:30Speaker 1: feet for three hours. They kept offering me a chair
- 13:34Speaker 1: now and the cod capt offering me a chip got
- 13:36Speaker 1: kept rejected her. But when I got home, I realized
- 13:39Speaker 1: I had been standing for three hours. I paid a price,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but it was well worth it because I want to
- 13:44Speaker 1: introduce my three winners. They're all on the phone. Great
- 13:47Speaker 1: FANTASTM bring them right up. You can drop that music
- 13:50Speaker 1: out of my ear. The three winners each category paid
- 13:53Speaker 1: them ten thousand dollars four point old g p A,
- 13:57Speaker 1: Henry Kakula A Sale Lifestyle Want ten thousand dollars in
- 14:01Speaker 1: the Product category Megan Ettings and Wondered Luss and the
- 14:06Speaker 1: Innovation category was paid ten thousand dollars Dedrob mathis is
- 14:10Speaker 1: that correct? Ladies? And jump? Does I get everybody right there?
- 14:16Speaker 1: You go? You know you gonna talk after that. You know,
- 14:18Speaker 1: after I saw hard she had a cheerleading section, diner
- 14:22Speaker 1: Uk with the group. Then your girl supported, Well, that's fantastic.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I want to take the time we have. We have
- 14:31Speaker 1: a little time. I'm gonna play in the music, so
- 14:32Speaker 1: I wanted to take the time first of all. I
- 14:34Speaker 1: want to congratulate all three of you guys. And it
- 14:37Speaker 1: was so funny with that after, you know, when the
- 14:40Speaker 1: judges went back for the final pairing, it's the judging
- 14:44Speaker 1: to find out who want each category. One was in
- 14:47Speaker 1: Product for ten thousand dollars, one was in service for
- 14:49Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars, and one was an innovation. I wanted
- 14:52Speaker 1: to happen on the show because you know a lot
- 14:53Speaker 1: of people say these contests and then you never hear
- 14:56Speaker 1: it an it at the results, and so I wanted
- 14:58Speaker 1: to bring you guys on this talk about, Hey, this
- 15:01Speaker 1: was a real deal, and starting with you, Henry, give
- 15:04Speaker 1: us a little feedback on your participation and what winning
- 15:07Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars will do for your brand and your business.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It's going to provide us with marketing that we're gonna
- 15:14Speaker 1: be able to expand, get radio ads and expand our
- 15:17Speaker 1: market and then we all gonna be able to get
- 15:19Speaker 1: an office where we're gonna be able to have clients
- 15:21Speaker 1: come in. But when we get those ads and everyone
- 15:24Speaker 1: starts signing out with our pint O G B A
- 15:26Speaker 1: and just prepare the kids of college, they're gonna come
- 15:29Speaker 1: in and our revenue is gonna go up to minus cool.
- 15:33Speaker 1: And in the minute, I'm gonna ask you about each
- 15:35Speaker 1: one to describe you becuses. But I want to find
- 15:36Speaker 1: out the initial impact of what ten thousand dollars will do. Okay,
- 15:39Speaker 1: Excel Lifestyle that was the no sweat lifestyle that you
- 15:44Speaker 1: want to bring your table. Megan, please tell us you know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: because your preaching takes you. First of all, I gotta
- 15:48Speaker 1: say this. She is in shape, you know what. She
- 15:50Speaker 1: looked like she does work out. So that was a
- 15:53Speaker 1: good time. You know, if you're gonna excel, if you're
- 15:56Speaker 1: gonna sell we sell workouts clothing that that you should
- 16:00Speaker 1: looking like you're wearing it. I'm doing my best. Thank
- 16:04Speaker 1: you so much. The opportunity now listen off is incredible.
- 16:07Speaker 1: And winning the ten thousand dollars, I'll definitely take that
- 16:10Speaker 1: money and put it towards O pattenting my fabric right now.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Now you were saying, now you were in the still
- 16:16Speaker 1: in the testing phases. Correct, That is correct. Fabric just
- 16:20Speaker 1: finished the third round of fabric just got finished testing
- 16:23Speaker 1: about two weeks ago. I'm sorry, being made and the
- 16:26Speaker 1: testing will be done about mid January. Okay, cool? And
- 16:29Speaker 1: then I want to bring out my my the cheerleader.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, you know this, this is Chiefs Millennial at
- 16:35Speaker 1: the finest right here, you know. D you please tell
- 16:39Speaker 1: us you know what you're gonna do with the ten
- 16:41Speaker 1: thousan dollars in regards to your business. Well, I just
- 16:45Speaker 1: you know, started renovations on my brick and mortar business.
- 16:48Speaker 1: So this money will definitely help me with working capital
- 16:50Speaker 1: to continue to market all the lust sin and to
- 16:54Speaker 1: put the word out because people need to know that
- 16:56Speaker 1: will be opening in the spring and come stay with us. Yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: marketing mainly, Well, I'm gonna let that lead right over
- 17:02Speaker 1: to explain everybody what wonder Louve Houston is and using
- 17:06Speaker 1: one in the innovation category, explain to everybody what exactly
- 17:09Speaker 1: is your entrepreneurial business. So one of us Houston is
- 17:13Speaker 1: a hospital that I'm opening in the Museum District. So
- 17:15Speaker 1: I've traveled a lot in my life, both internationally and domestically,
- 17:19Speaker 1: spanging over sixty five hospitals, and I fell in love
- 17:22Speaker 1: with the whole concept of a shared community while traveling.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So when I moved to Houston three years ago, I said,
- 17:27Speaker 1: you know what, this is a place where a hospital
- 17:29Speaker 1: needs to be. So I just started researching and making
- 17:32Speaker 1: it happen. And so I'm just really excited to offer
- 17:34Speaker 1: community to millennial travelers. Who is at Houston. Now when
- 17:38Speaker 1: you say they we're millennial travelers, now that's that's you
- 17:41Speaker 1: know everybody now, everybody talks about the millennial, how dominate?
- 17:45Speaker 1: That's eighteen thirty four, and and and I always say
- 17:48Speaker 1: that's pretty interesting because if you're a person who's lived
- 17:51Speaker 1: on campus, then you used to waking up looking at
- 17:54Speaker 1: somebody staring at you. You know what I'm saying exactly.
- 17:56Speaker 1: But but the way we're set up is we uh,
- 17:58Speaker 1: we do all for privacy. So if someone wants a
- 18:00Speaker 1: private room, they can absolutely get their own room. But
- 18:03Speaker 1: if someone is saying, hey, you know, I want to
- 18:05Speaker 1: meet other people and they have that shared space, you
- 18:07Speaker 1: have the shared rooms as well. So we have a
- 18:10Speaker 1: little bit for both people who want privacy and who
- 18:13Speaker 1: want that community. And what makes you so excited? What
- 18:15Speaker 1: makes you so wow? I can't believe that I'm getting
- 18:18Speaker 1: my shot. What makes you so excited? I mean, this
- 18:21Speaker 1: is just amazing. I just entrepreneurship is just really special
- 18:25Speaker 1: and important to me, especially being a minority woman, being
- 18:28Speaker 1: able to start this legacy for my family and just
- 18:30Speaker 1: see inspiration for other women who want to start businesses.
- 18:33Speaker 1: This was a long, hard road but just super exciting.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And I'm just really excited to just be there for
- 18:39Speaker 1: other women who have questions about opening their business and
- 18:41Speaker 1: offering this you know, cool innovative for new ideas to
- 18:45Speaker 1: the Houston city. So everything about this has just been
- 18:48Speaker 1: an amazing journey. Congratulations not making Thank you so much.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Exhale Lifestyle. First of all, I love the logo. I
- 18:55Speaker 1: love them the whole logo. And it was clean, you
- 18:58Speaker 1: know because me, you know when you when you're in
- 19:01Speaker 1: that business, because guess what we're competing with? You know, Nike, Adidas,
- 19:06Speaker 1: you know all these people out there, so you could
- 19:08Speaker 1: you know, you know, you know these the celebrities out there.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Who was Kate Hudson has a line. All these things
- 19:15Speaker 1: are competing. Now what made you wake up and said,
- 19:18Speaker 1: you know something, I don't do this. I'm unknown, I'm unknown,
- 19:22Speaker 1: don't nobody know me, but I'm gonna do this. What
- 19:24Speaker 1: is inspiring? What is driving you? Sure? Yeah? I decided
- 19:28Speaker 1: a few years ago that my career, what I was
- 19:30Speaker 1: doing for my day job, was not in line with
- 19:32Speaker 1: my passions of fitness and fashion and I love chemistry.
- 19:36Speaker 1: So basically I just started watching my husband's workout clothes
- 19:39Speaker 1: and then and to be honest, so my you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: he doesn't think, but the clothes did not smell good.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And then I started, you know, talking to some friends,
- 19:47Speaker 1: and my brother is back home, and it's just a common,
- 19:50Speaker 1: common problem that obviously people don't talk about. So I said, well,
- 19:53Speaker 1: there's got to be a solution, and I couldn't really
- 19:55Speaker 1: find one out there that argued, you know, all the
- 19:58Speaker 1: challenges I'm trying to addressed, and said, he I'll just
- 20:02Speaker 1: start my own company now that and so so you're saying,
- 20:07Speaker 1: I wanta say this the funk watching your husband's workout
- 20:12Speaker 1: closed inspired you. Yes, it is. I'd like to keep
- 20:19Speaker 1: it real because he was in the audience. Correct, he
- 20:22Speaker 1: certainly wasn't married. You should have pointed in, You should
- 20:25Speaker 1: have pointed saying that man, right there is the reason
- 20:28Speaker 1: I'm wonst say and so so, so, just give people
- 20:33Speaker 1: a little bit more detail exactly what your clothing line
- 20:36Speaker 1: is trying to accomplish and why it's going to be successful. Sure,
- 20:40Speaker 1: it is a fashionable workout clothes that don't smell no
- 20:44Speaker 1: matter how much you sweat in them. And the key
- 20:46Speaker 1: is they're not made in sweatshops. Everything is sourced and
- 20:49Speaker 1: made here in the United States. Yeah, and it's been
- 20:52Speaker 1: it's been a wild ride, super exciting, um. Every day
- 20:56Speaker 1: I am learning more and more and just like Peter said,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you know, empowering other women and people to start their
- 21:02Speaker 1: own company. It's not easy, but it is the most
- 21:05Speaker 1: rewarding thing I've ever done in my life. And I
- 21:06Speaker 1: want to inspire others to do the same. And I'll
- 21:09Speaker 1: stay in touch and I'm sure i will stay engage
- 21:12Speaker 1: withen with the Liftoff Houston campaign and I hope to
- 21:16Speaker 1: see everybody, and you know at the next year's finals.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Being a judge, being a being a mentor, and also
- 21:24Speaker 1: my show money making conversation is designed to be able
- 21:27Speaker 1: to promote your opportunities to sell your prayers another extension,
- 21:31Speaker 1: you know, you like, teach you what you was officially
- 21:34Speaker 1: up and running. Send me a flyer. I'll put it
- 21:36Speaker 1: on my social media for your free of charge. Okay,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I'll bring you back on the show. And I'll bring
- 21:42Speaker 1: you back on the show to promote your grand openings
- 21:44Speaker 1: and all that. That's the whole that's the whole purpose
- 21:47Speaker 1: of the show. You know. That's why I'm so I said,
- 21:50Speaker 1: feel fortunate to talk to such such young people, I
- 21:53Speaker 1: say young people because of the fact that you entered
- 21:56Speaker 1: in the business where guess what a lot of people
- 21:58Speaker 1: sit at home and sit on and they say, I
- 22:00Speaker 1: almost ride out this eight to five because because it's safe,
- 22:03Speaker 1: it's normal, it's what people tell you're supposed to do
- 22:06Speaker 1: when you when you ender the entrepreneur spirit, the rules
- 22:09Speaker 1: are off. It's all on you. There's no guarantee you
- 22:12Speaker 1: get a check. And so want I want to carry
- 22:15Speaker 1: this conversation to the man who walked on stage first,
- 22:18Speaker 1: because the way it happened, it was ten contestants, okay
- 22:22Speaker 1: it was, and they just drove up a hat and
- 22:25Speaker 1: this young man, Henry k. Coola four part O g
- 22:29Speaker 1: p A, was the very first person to walk on stage.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something, very first is not always
- 22:34Speaker 1: good because you know, Mike's system not working correctly, you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you know, the crowds not warmed up, the judges here
- 22:42Speaker 1: in the very first pitch. So all that was running
- 22:44Speaker 1: through your mind, correct, Henry, It was running through my mind.
- 22:50Speaker 1: And how did you put it off, fellow? Because you
- 22:52Speaker 1: did a great job, you crab. I remember, I remember,
- 22:55Speaker 1: I remember the Capital One representatives said you you squeezed
- 22:59Speaker 1: a lot in that five. Yeah, So this starting off
- 23:05Speaker 1: with it's just like the opportunity. I had to shoot
- 23:07Speaker 1: my shot because I thought my mom was but I
- 23:10Speaker 1: had to keep my promise. And it was kind of
- 23:12Speaker 1: nervous with the clicker at first, but I had to
- 23:14Speaker 1: get it together. And it's only five minutes and I
- 23:16Speaker 1: couldn't let tink Swana away like that. Now, let's tell
- 23:19Speaker 1: me to tell everybody in detail a little bit about
- 23:22Speaker 1: exactly what it is. Four point g p A. Okay,
- 23:26Speaker 1: so four point o g p A. We helped prepare
- 23:28Speaker 1: students and teachers as well for the college process. But
- 23:31Speaker 1: how does it work. We're like a work shop. A
- 23:33Speaker 1: lot of students do not know how to prepare for
- 23:35Speaker 1: college and do the college application. So in one day,
- 23:38Speaker 1: we go to the whole intire school, make sure everyone
- 23:41Speaker 1: complete their application, and then we show them what they
- 23:44Speaker 1: have to do to graduate from college for four years.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Because I feel six classes in high school and I saw,
- 23:49Speaker 1: coming from a low background being a teacher, a lot
- 23:52Speaker 1: of my students didn't know how to prepare for college.
- 23:53Speaker 1: They ended up in prison. So I said I wanted
- 23:55Speaker 1: to stop receiving prison LETTERCIS and start receiving more college degrees.
- 24:00Speaker 1: That's the process. That's awesome, that We also help them
- 24:05Speaker 1: with LinkedIn accounts, so if they don't want to go
- 24:07Speaker 1: to college, they know how to have the resume, get
- 24:09Speaker 1: ready to go into technical fields and be successful. Not
- 24:11Speaker 1: I'll here robbing people. I love it. I love the
- 24:14Speaker 1: fact that you give an opportunity. That's all. That's all
- 24:17Speaker 1: anybody asked for, you know. And so this is it's
- 24:19Speaker 1: just like a subscription that they can pay for or
- 24:22Speaker 1: a it is a plan they have to sign up for.
- 24:24Speaker 1: How exactly do they get your service? Okay, so what
- 24:28Speaker 1: they can do. They can go on our website right
- 24:30Speaker 1: now for zero g p A dot com and they
- 24:33Speaker 1: can sign up for a monthly plans. We work with
- 24:36Speaker 1: a lot of schools with in Houston and individuals. What
- 24:39Speaker 1: we do make is extremely simple regardless if you have
- 24:41Speaker 1: a two point oh g p A will help you
- 24:43Speaker 1: get accepted to colleges and win scholarship and we'll do
- 24:46Speaker 1: all that for you in less than a month time period.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And we have also been highlighted on Channel two this year,
- 24:51Speaker 1: so we have had a lot of success and we're
- 24:53Speaker 1: gonna be future that soft ot West e d U
- 24:56Speaker 1: one of the biggest education conferences in the United States. Well,
- 24:59Speaker 1: my friends so that the same goes back to you. Okay,
- 25:03Speaker 1: if you have a flyer or banner, get it, get
- 25:06Speaker 1: it to my staff. Have Abigail contacts Samantha and so
- 25:10Speaker 1: we in a dale who hands all. He's my program
- 25:13Speaker 1: director for my money making conversation platform. Will put it
- 25:16Speaker 1: on our social media. Let's do it in the first
- 25:19Speaker 1: of the year. Let's don't do it right now. I'll
- 25:21Speaker 1: kind of add this that if you don't mind, let's
- 25:23Speaker 1: do it in the first year. Get it up and rolling,
- 25:25Speaker 1: make people, put the folks in a in a position
- 25:27Speaker 1: to be able to look for opportunities. Is that cool
- 25:30Speaker 1: with you? That's that's fine, and you can expect the
- 25:34Speaker 1: email from me on twelve am January. I love it.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I love it. I guess what, but I wanted I
- 25:40Speaker 1: want you to get the contact information now though. Okay,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Samantha Taylor is my is my director for this for
- 25:46Speaker 1: helling all my local talent booking. So how did that
- 25:49Speaker 1: happen there? Now? As far as Megan, I have a
- 25:52Speaker 1: wife and our daughter. They work out all the time,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and so I'm just gonna let you know as soon
- 25:57Speaker 1: as you get up and running, I'll be bringing big
- 26:00Speaker 1: Is to your doorstep. Is that all right? That's what
- 26:03Speaker 1: I'm saying. Working out for the wife and the daughter.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Work out. Okay, See, now you're gonna personalize just what
- 26:12Speaker 1: I do. I look like I work out now if
- 26:15Speaker 1: you get me on escalator is my best friend. But
- 26:20Speaker 1: I will I will definitely uh and buy your your
- 26:24Speaker 1: your brand. I like I said, I love what I
- 26:27Speaker 1: saw as far as the logos and the layout, I
- 26:30Speaker 1: thought it was fantastic. But know that I will be
- 26:33Speaker 1: bringing business and know that you are going to be
- 26:35Speaker 1: a friend of mine into my family and I will
- 26:38Speaker 1: do all I can in my power to help you
- 26:41Speaker 1: launch your brand at a high level and make it
- 26:43Speaker 1: the worldwide as well as the national success deal man,
- 26:46Speaker 1: thank you kindly. That's beautiful. Thank you very much. Also,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and my girl, my girl, come on now, come on now,
- 26:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna go tell you what I'm about to do
- 26:55Speaker 1: here in t I'm gonna syndicate my show to college
- 27:00Speaker 1: campuses because I want to be the voice of eighteen
- 27:05Speaker 1: to thirty four. You know, I figured if Bernie Saders
- 27:09Speaker 1: can do it, ra Sean McDonald can do I got
- 27:12Speaker 1: more swag. I got more swag and a dressed better
- 27:16Speaker 1: and so I'm gonna get them into your audience base
- 27:19Speaker 1: eighteen to thirty four because that's the group I want
- 27:21Speaker 1: to go for. So I'm just letting you know mcdonaland
- 27:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be a home for one of lust Houston. Okay, Oh,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I love that. That is wonderful. When you guys keep winning.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I want to congratulate each one of you guys for
- 27:35Speaker 1: winning ten thousand dollars in each category or product, service,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and innovation. I also want to gratulate by Matt Henry
- 27:41Speaker 1: and the fourth point o g p A. But when
- 27:43Speaker 1: of the additional five hut dollars for when of these
- 27:46Speaker 1: social media fan favorite again four point o d p
- 27:49Speaker 1: A ex Sale Lifestyle, want to Love Houston. Three champions
- 27:53Speaker 1: on my show today. Congratulations and have a great Okay,
- 27:58Speaker 1: thank you so much, opportunity. I appreciate y'all A fan
- 28:02Speaker 1: for life now. I then told I've told him now
- 28:05Speaker 1: they got a fan for life in Roshan McDonald. If
- 28:08Speaker 1: they want to keep winning, keep listening, We'll be right
- 28:10Speaker 1: back with more money making conversation, cool back, just fincially
- 28:17Speaker 1: fantastic and interview with the winners of Liftoff Houston UH
- 28:21Speaker 1: Contest that will be as a competition Shark Tank Typestyle competition.
- 28:26Speaker 1: We'll be back in for all you entrepreneurs who are
- 28:29Speaker 1: interested in like you say, have not generated over ten
- 28:32Speaker 1: thou dollars and income and the first few of your business,
- 28:35Speaker 1: you should really seriously look at um engaging yourself in
- 28:39Speaker 1: this opportunity because it was it was a learning experience
- 28:42Speaker 1: and the place was sold out, packed to the rafters.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And not only I think it's very important that if
- 28:47Speaker 1: you have a business, the more you talk about your business,
- 28:50Speaker 1: the more you understand some of the flaws in your
- 28:53Speaker 1: presentation as well what you what you should be actually
- 28:57Speaker 1: uh promoting about your business. But my next guest, he
- 29:00Speaker 1: has no flaws. He's been on my show before and
- 29:03Speaker 1: in fact I didn't give him enough time, and I
- 29:05Speaker 1: brought him back to give him more time, and I
- 29:07Speaker 1: told him, look, let's come back into Thanksgiving. Do you Thanksgiving?
- 29:11Speaker 1: You know Christmas holiday time? Frank, My next yes, is
- 29:14Speaker 1: the owner of Principal Gents. He offers private jets solutions
- 29:17Speaker 1: to a demanding customer base. That's me, I'm very demanded.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Please welcome to money Making Conversations. Charles robertson how you
- 29:25Speaker 1: doing y'all, how you doing man? Because I'm demanded man
- 29:32Speaker 1: on that private set world. I am so demanded. It
- 29:35Speaker 1: is ridiculous. Man, How do you deal with it? First
- 29:37Speaker 1: of all, how do you deal with people like me? Well,
- 29:40Speaker 1: the thing is, first of all, I want to applaud
- 29:42Speaker 1: you for being a man of your word. Thanks for
- 29:43Speaker 1: having me back on the show. Really glad to be here.
- 29:47Speaker 1: But to deal with the person like this ain't gonna
- 29:50Speaker 1: be the last time you're gonna be on my show,
- 29:51Speaker 1: because if my brand grows and it will be growing
- 29:55Speaker 1: bigger in eighteen, you'll be on this show, my friend. Well,
- 29:58Speaker 1: I look forward to it. But in terms of you
- 30:01Speaker 1: being demanding, that's just the nature of the beast. You know,
- 30:04Speaker 1: if you're spending the kind of money it takes the
- 30:05Speaker 1: chart of these jets, you deserve to be demanding. You know.
- 30:09Speaker 1: We it's our job to accommodate you to whatever, you know,
- 30:12Speaker 1: whatever needs you have to make this an enjoyable experience
- 30:15Speaker 1: when you when you do chary to private jets through
- 30:17Speaker 1: Principal Jets. And that's it's great because see one of
- 30:20Speaker 1: the demanding things I have, I gotta have WiFi. You
- 30:23Speaker 1: know I got because you know I got it when
- 30:24Speaker 1: I'm flying, you know sometimes you know, these jets can
- 30:27Speaker 1: go coast to coast, right all you can just take
- 30:30Speaker 1: a hopper from here to Dallas or Hall I'm talking
- 30:32Speaker 1: test Texas talk you know, Houston, the haulageen of Corpus
- 30:36Speaker 1: Christie or New Orleans. You know, you might not you know,
- 30:38Speaker 1: it's up in the air. All you might not want
- 30:40Speaker 1: to have WiFi, but I will won't have my WiFi.
- 30:44Speaker 1: And so that that's a big is that is did
- 30:47Speaker 1: those advanced levels of technology being like a standard part
- 30:51Speaker 1: of the jet travel world. Oh? Absolutely. As a matter
- 30:55Speaker 1: of fact, one of the beauties of flying privately is
- 30:58Speaker 1: that you can remain product if while you're flying, Unlike
- 31:02Speaker 1: the airlines that I know, with the airlines, you can't
- 31:04Speaker 1: purchase access to WiFi to a certain degree. But when
- 31:08Speaker 1: flying privately, you can still conduct meetings. You have access
- 31:11Speaker 1: to WiFi. You know, there are certain plans that you know,
- 31:14Speaker 1: I'll be honest with you that we'll not have access
- 31:16Speaker 1: to WiFi. But if we know before you a scheduled
- 31:18Speaker 1: to fly the WiFi is important to you, we will
- 31:20Speaker 1: make sure that you're on you're on an aircraft that
- 31:23Speaker 1: has available WiFi for you uh to conduct your business
- 31:27Speaker 1: while you're you're you're you're flying that way, while while
- 31:31Speaker 1: you're traveling, you're not skipping a beat on your business.
- 31:32Speaker 1: You know you're still moving because I've operated articles where
- 31:35Speaker 1: you know companies are now doing that. You know that
- 31:38Speaker 1: if lawyer teams are marketing teams instead of having them
- 31:42Speaker 1: buy you know, six or eight tickets, they have run
- 31:45Speaker 1: a private jet and then they could all fly through
- 31:48Speaker 1: the whole journey. You know they're not they're not tapping
- 31:51Speaker 1: each other on the shoulder or trying to keep keep
- 31:54Speaker 1: a breast or sitting on separate aisles. They can conduct
- 31:57Speaker 1: meetings while they only in traveling. That's a big, big
- 32:00Speaker 1: thing now and it saves money as well as work times.
- 32:04Speaker 1: It is a big plus and plus um. On top
- 32:06Speaker 1: of that, you can remain you know, keep the information
- 32:09Speaker 1: that you're discussing. It can remain confidential. You know, while
- 32:13Speaker 1: you're in a private aircraft, you know it's only yourself
- 32:16Speaker 1: and the people that are on your team versus flying privately.
- 32:20Speaker 1: If you walk up to roadif B to tap N
- 32:25Speaker 1: on the shoulder and ask him something about an email
- 32:27Speaker 1: that was sent through everybody in that area, we'll hear
- 32:30Speaker 1: the whole conversation, whereas if you're flying privately, you can
- 32:33Speaker 1: all just have the conversation as if you're in a boardroom.
- 32:37Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you this, this is honest truth.
- 32:39Speaker 1: You know, I'm fortunately fly first class. I fly comfort
- 32:42Speaker 1: or the level behind on it sometimes like coach as well.
- 32:46Speaker 1: But I'm telling when you open up that computer, I
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, I when I'm when I'm doing work, I
- 32:52Speaker 1: always give me an a window seat so at least
- 32:54Speaker 1: can keep my computer at an angle. But it is
- 32:57Speaker 1: a very uncomfortable angles I'm working at at You know,
- 33:00Speaker 1: I don't want anybody seeing my screen because sometimes I'll
- 33:03Speaker 1: be looking at I look over somebody's screen. I've been
- 33:05Speaker 1: going for real. You let me see this for real.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I know, I know exactly what you mean. And that's
- 33:12Speaker 1: the beauty of flying private. And also reached a lot
- 33:15Speaker 1: of corporations because I'm just keeps holl listed by corporations
- 33:19Speaker 1: because of the fact that once you send an employee,
- 33:21Speaker 1: they own the clock. So if you can position them
- 33:25Speaker 1: to work as a team while they own the clock,
- 33:28Speaker 1: then you get more out of your money. That's absolutely correct.
- 33:32Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, there's a misnomer that for
- 33:36Speaker 1: the most part, the the executives that fly privately are
- 33:40Speaker 1: mostly the top tier senior level executives. But in a
- 33:45Speaker 1: lot of cases, it could be sales teams going out
- 33:48Speaker 1: to do a demo. It could be um, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 1: um other executives going out to do a corporate road
- 33:54Speaker 1: show for a company that's doing about to do an
- 33:57Speaker 1: I p o hitting multiple cities in a and you know,
- 34:00Speaker 1: on the same day. It's not always the top tier,
- 34:04Speaker 1: um senior executives. But you know, we get a lot
- 34:06Speaker 1: of those as well. Well. You know when people here
- 34:08Speaker 1: the were private jet, they hear you know, you know,
- 34:11Speaker 1: they hear the celebrity the super celebrities, you know, Beyonce,
- 34:16Speaker 1: Tom Brady, you know they you know they're caving hard,
- 34:20Speaker 1: Steve Harvey, you know, or they hear CEOs of Amazon,
- 34:24Speaker 1: like you're saying, but that is not the case nowadays.
- 34:28Speaker 1: It's just not always. It's like like I'm gonna just
- 34:31Speaker 1: tell you, I travel a lot, you book a lot,
- 34:33Speaker 1: and because of the fact that you don't have to
- 34:37Speaker 1: get packed down, people are taking off all your clothes,
- 34:41Speaker 1: you don't have to go through the machine and make
- 34:43Speaker 1: you bend over. You know, you can take water on
- 34:46Speaker 1: the plane. You just get there and you just walk
- 34:49Speaker 1: on the plane. And I swear to you, you don't
- 34:51Speaker 1: have to get the airport two hours early. All those
- 34:55Speaker 1: things are what I'm telling you is the truth, right exactly.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I'll tell one thing about the corporate execs using using
- 35:03Speaker 1: us is that they do save time because of those things.
- 35:06Speaker 1: You know, you don't have t s A, you don't
- 35:08Speaker 1: have uh, you know, a check in point by you know,
- 35:11Speaker 1: two hours in advance, you don't have the baggage claim
- 35:14Speaker 1: issues and that sort of thing. So they do save
- 35:17Speaker 1: time by flying privately. But a lot of these people
- 35:20Speaker 1: that use private aviation to conduct their business, they also
- 35:24Speaker 1: see the benefits of using it for their personal lives
- 35:26Speaker 1: as well. So we have a lot of I have
- 35:29Speaker 1: one since the last time I was on your show,
- 35:32Speaker 1: I picked up a new client just because of a
- 35:35Speaker 1: feature that was done on us in the Washington Business Journal,
- 35:38Speaker 1: and this this gentleman was thank you. This gentleman is
- 35:42Speaker 1: a really well respected international business man. But he also
- 35:46Speaker 1: surfs as a hobby. And and it's the funniest thing
- 35:51Speaker 1: because you get some of the some of the strangest
- 35:53Speaker 1: I would say it strange, but some of the most
- 35:55Speaker 1: unusual circumstances because this gentleman has used us to, you know,
- 36:00Speaker 1: conduct business, but then he's started using us now to
- 36:03Speaker 1: go to these different locations to surf wherever the winds,
- 36:07Speaker 1: you know, in this time of year, you know. But
- 36:10Speaker 1: but the other thing that we have going on is
- 36:12Speaker 1: right now we're walking into the busiest season for private
- 36:16Speaker 1: jet travel in the year. You know, between right now
- 36:20Speaker 1: leading to and we have Christmas, New Year's then the
- 36:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl, and in between that we also have all
- 36:28Speaker 1: the other football games leading into the college football Championships.
- 36:32Speaker 1: And we also have this group of people they call
- 36:34Speaker 1: the snowbirds, people to live in the northern climates that
- 36:39Speaker 1: migrates south during the winter months, and a lot of
- 36:42Speaker 1: them have additional residences down south, so some of them
- 36:46Speaker 1: will fly privately to go go south to say stay
- 36:48Speaker 1: for the winter months. So I can't tell you how
- 36:53Speaker 1: busy it is for Thanksgiving and Christmas and uh in
- 36:56Speaker 1: the Super Bowl weekend as well. Did I offer your
- 36:58Speaker 1: opportunity to come on my social immedia with any banners
- 37:01Speaker 1: and flyers last time, you know, we we spoke about that.
- 37:05Speaker 1: But I have something for you. I will email it
- 37:06Speaker 1: over to you and uh, we'd love to have it
- 37:09Speaker 1: on there. Was definitely I want to do that for
- 37:11Speaker 1: you because because that's the whole purpose of money making conversation,
- 37:14Speaker 1: because it's the thing I liked what you said was
- 37:16Speaker 1: you did an article because that's what you have to do.
- 37:19Speaker 1: And you know it's a business person. You just gotta
- 37:21Speaker 1: keep selling your bread and you never know where that
- 37:23Speaker 1: where somebody might hear you and start connecting dots that
- 37:26Speaker 1: I heard you are read about you also a post
- 37:28Speaker 1: here and your brand becoming synonymous with a trusted brand.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And that's why and that's why, that's why I appreciate
- 37:34Speaker 1: you coming back on the show. And I understand your philosophy,
- 37:37Speaker 1: said Richard, thank you for bringing me back on the show,
- 37:39Speaker 1: your manner, your word, because it allows me to keep
- 37:41Speaker 1: building my brain. Yes sir, yes sir. We'll be back
- 37:45Speaker 1: with more money making conversations from my man Charles robertson
- 37:49Speaker 1: well here out there private just dealing with demanding people
- 37:52Speaker 1: like me and keeping a smile on his face. Were
- 37:55Speaker 1: right back with more money making conversations. Take hi, Rushan
- 38:02Speaker 1: mcdonaldvack was more money making conversations on the call, I
- 38:05Speaker 1: have principal jets, the owner, Charles Roberts. Welcome back, y'all. Yes, sir,
- 38:10Speaker 1: thank you. Hears in the background talking about your Mississippi boy.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Huh sir uh one and raised in a little town
- 38:17Speaker 1: called Marinda in Mississippi. UM, just about eighty five miles
- 38:21Speaker 1: east of Jackson, Mississippi. Most people have heard of that.
- 38:25Speaker 1: You didn't stopped calling a little bit of towns. I've
- 38:27Speaker 1: been already in Mississippi. I was there in March, right,
- 38:30Speaker 1: I was there for I did a big campaign with
- 38:33Speaker 1: Love's Kitchen, went down exactly. So, so don't call Marindy
- 38:37Speaker 1: and Mississippi small to me because I didn't brother right right,
- 38:41Speaker 1: And it's a matter of fact, you met some um,
- 38:43Speaker 1: some good friends of mine while you were down there.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Um right, Cedric Dubos, Um, gentlemen, he's cooking baking cakes. Yeah,
- 38:54Speaker 1: he's a good friend of mine. And those family, well
- 38:56Speaker 1: good people. They got a great gig down there. They
- 38:58Speaker 1: was at my reception and they laid out the hole spread.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Good family. I believe I peted his wife on my
- 39:04Speaker 1: baker spotlight on my social media. So I let you know.
- 39:08Speaker 1: We didn't talk about that last tack of title time.
- 39:11Speaker 1: But don't you call me small to me because I
- 39:18Speaker 1: remember the next time. And then let's let's go a
- 39:21Speaker 1: little back even further about your your personal life. You know,
- 39:24Speaker 1: you know, your your entrepreneurial spirit came from your family,
- 39:27Speaker 1: your veteran of the military, Air Force and the Air
- 39:30Speaker 1: National Guard, all those things. I feel got to be told.
- 39:34Speaker 1: That's your story, man, you know, absolutely correct, absolutely, Uh.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I grew up in a entrepreneurial family. My my grandfather
- 39:43Speaker 1: was one of the first, uh probably owned plumber companies
- 39:49Speaker 1: in the area down here, and so he grew you know,
- 39:52Speaker 1: he expanded his business. My dad took it over after
- 39:56Speaker 1: you know, UH got out of the military. All the
- 39:58Speaker 1: boys in our family in the summer, that's the job
- 40:02Speaker 1: that we had of the summer job was working on
- 40:04Speaker 1: these plumbing jobs with my my father and my grandfather
- 40:07Speaker 1: and um, so it taught us that, you know, there's
- 40:10Speaker 1: always work to be done, you know, and uh, working
- 40:13Speaker 1: for yourself is you know. I wish I would you know,
- 40:15Speaker 1: I wish it would have resonated with me earlier in life,
- 40:18Speaker 1: but it hit me and UM, I'm so glad I've
- 40:21Speaker 1: done it. Well, you know, I hear what you're saying.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Some people get it, don't they. They get in the
- 40:25Speaker 1: teams they get in the early twenties, it didn't hit
- 40:28Speaker 1: me until I was like mid thirties. You know, it's
- 40:30Speaker 1: just people telling me how talented I was. I was special,
- 40:36Speaker 1: constantly telling me that you're not the same I felt
- 40:40Speaker 1: that I wanted to be. It's so easy to be
- 40:43Speaker 1: just like everybody else. It's so easy just to go
- 40:46Speaker 1: to work, take your break, go toge and go home,
- 40:50Speaker 1: have some kids and watch football. That's exactly right right.
- 40:56Speaker 1: The unknown portunate of what you're talking about right now
- 40:58Speaker 1: is that that you have to mentally give yourself up
- 41:01Speaker 1: every day, which is a good thing. It was just
- 41:03Speaker 1: not a bad thing to do to compete you competing
- 41:07Speaker 1: every day, every day, every around the clock, every day.
- 41:11Speaker 1: That's the part that people and I found it. And
- 41:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something. Some days I have those
- 41:16Speaker 1: days where I doubt myself. There might be a couple
- 41:18Speaker 1: of hours and I but I realized to reach out.
- 41:21Speaker 1: This is what you do, man, this is what you do.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Because I'm telling you something, there are people out there
- 41:25Speaker 1: working for these these for they all week job, doubting themselves,
- 41:28Speaker 1: not just a day every week unhappy, unhappy. And so
- 41:34Speaker 1: so when you when you when I'm talking to somebody
- 41:37Speaker 1: like you, who know, that's when I had to go
- 41:39Speaker 1: back to Marini and Mississippi had to go back to
- 41:42Speaker 1: Jackson state that Jackson had to go back, you know,
- 41:44Speaker 1: when you just cleaning those tarlets, gathering that entrepreneur spirit,
- 41:48Speaker 1: all you keep thinking about, Man, I did this one.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I know what I don't want to do in life.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I don't do a Grandpa for I ain't going this.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I don't go through an Air Force and then the
- 42:00Speaker 1: Air National Guard and you in line with what you're
- 42:03Speaker 1: supposed to be doing, because you start dealing with planes.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I firmly believe that, you know. I was, Um, yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 1: I guess I got hooked on aviation early on. You
- 42:14Speaker 1: know because where we lived in Meridian, Mississippi, it wasn't
- 42:18Speaker 1: too far from an airport. It's called key Field, and
- 42:21Speaker 1: there was an Air National Guard unit down there that
- 42:23Speaker 1: had these F four fantoms and I would sit there
- 42:27Speaker 1: some days and just watch them takeoff and land, you know. Um,
- 42:30Speaker 1: And you know, years later I ended up being a
- 42:33Speaker 1: member of that unit as a crew chief on F
- 42:35Speaker 1: four fantoms and and later you know, I transitioned to
- 42:39Speaker 1: a unit in the Washington, D C. Area, the one
- 42:42Speaker 1: thirteen Fighter Wing where you know we the uniflies F
- 42:46Speaker 1: sixteens and I was a crew chief on F sixteens
- 42:49Speaker 1: and so I learned a lot about what it takes
- 42:52Speaker 1: to manage maintain high performance airplanes. UM and doing the
- 42:57Speaker 1: same thing, but for you know, clients to to yourself,
- 43:00Speaker 1: you know, with a different type of aircraft. Now, how
- 43:04Speaker 1: does one how does one book book anything? I reach
- 43:08Speaker 1: out to you to getting part of book a single flight,
- 43:10Speaker 1: a group flight with Principal Jets. Yes, okay. The beauty
- 43:14Speaker 1: of our business model is that you do not have
- 43:17Speaker 1: to UM buy a membership or any sort of jet
- 43:20Speaker 1: card or anything like that. You can just go to
- 43:22Speaker 1: our website. And that's a big that's a big point. Uh,
- 43:30Speaker 1: you don't have to say that you don't have to
- 43:32Speaker 1: purchase a membership. There's no membership requirement. UM. You can
- 43:37Speaker 1: just basically fly for you know, if you need to
- 43:40Speaker 1: fly just once, you can do that. You can pay
- 43:42Speaker 1: us for the time that you fly basically, and then
- 43:45Speaker 1: in addition to the time that you fly, you also
- 43:47Speaker 1: pay for any additional related expenses such as catering um
- 43:52Speaker 1: if it's inclement whether you you'll be responsible for de
- 43:55Speaker 1: icing fees and things like that. But all the fees
- 43:57Speaker 1: are laid out in the quotes that we provide our client.
- 44:00Speaker 1: But the best way to UM to go about reaching
- 44:03Speaker 1: out to us is go to our website. It's principal
- 44:06Speaker 1: Jets dot com and I'll spell that p R I
- 44:08Speaker 1: N C I P A l j E T S
- 44:12Speaker 1: dot com principle jets dot com and you'll see a
- 44:16Speaker 1: tab on there that just says request a quote. And
- 44:19Speaker 1: if you click that and just key and all the
- 44:21Speaker 1: information that it asks for and just submit it, it
- 44:24Speaker 1: will come to us and we'll just take that come
- 44:28Speaker 1: back to you with some options for you to consider.
- 44:31Speaker 1: And the one thing I want to stress is that
- 44:34Speaker 1: because we're a smaller company, a lot of people have
- 44:37Speaker 1: this misconcession that, well, you know, they're smaller companies, so
- 44:40Speaker 1: their planes may not be as as safe as these
- 44:43Speaker 1: big boys over here. But I guarantee you that not
- 44:47Speaker 1: only will we save you money, but the planes we
- 44:49Speaker 1: will put you on were manufactured in the exact same
- 44:52Speaker 1: factories as those planes for the the other guys they
- 44:56Speaker 1: also have to fly and you know, our main same
- 45:00Speaker 1: by the same f a A standards that are required
- 45:04Speaker 1: by law, and in addition to that, we ensure that
- 45:07Speaker 1: they have endured additional audits in addition to the basic
- 45:11Speaker 1: f A standards to ensure an additional level of safety
- 45:14Speaker 1: and security for any of our clients that are flying privately.
- 45:18Speaker 1: So if you give us a shot, you'll see. And
- 45:22Speaker 1: that's one of the things that I'm trying to do
- 45:23Speaker 1: now in terms of the customer basically have I'm trying
- 45:27Speaker 1: to reach out to more people that look like me
- 45:30Speaker 1: to become clients of mind, because I know that they're
- 45:32Speaker 1: out there and I don't have a whole lot of
- 45:34Speaker 1: them right now. But that's one of the things that
- 45:36Speaker 1: we're trying to change. Well, that's why I'm supporting you.
- 45:38Speaker 1: That's why I'm a fan of yours, not only because
- 45:41Speaker 1: you have a good business model and you're good business man,
- 45:44Speaker 1: because I know that because I am you're calling a
- 45:47Speaker 1: Netflix next, I know what you're talking about out there.
- 45:50Speaker 1: You know that these memberships that I've had them, I've
- 45:52Speaker 1: had these cards, you know, and you know, as you fly,
- 45:55Speaker 1: reduces hours on the cars, right like that. But I
- 45:59Speaker 1: also know that you know you pick a plane. If
- 46:02Speaker 1: you pick a plane and says, then you're gonna get
- 46:06Speaker 1: that type plane. You pick a plane that says because
- 46:08Speaker 1: I'm always a guy. I always like my planes to
- 46:11Speaker 1: be in the two thousands. But you get a plane
- 46:12Speaker 1: from nine ninty, and you know you get you get
- 46:15Speaker 1: those type of planes from certain agencies a bookle. So
- 46:18Speaker 1: I've been on the what they call top top tier
- 46:22Speaker 1: of airlines companies and they've given me planes I've looked
- 46:26Speaker 1: at and go, you kidded me, just thirty plane really,
- 46:30Speaker 1: So so I respect what you're saying. And that's why
- 46:32Speaker 1: I got to stay on top of you in this
- 46:34Speaker 1: relationship with myself because I know I get celebrities on here,
- 46:38Speaker 1: I get entrepreneurs on here, I get CEOs on my show,
- 46:41Speaker 1: and so I want to be able to put you
- 46:44Speaker 1: know when they also are tied to my social media
- 46:47Speaker 1: and so I know this peak time for you. Please
- 46:50Speaker 1: get that card to me a social media pantner, and
- 46:53Speaker 1: so consider me a friend man. And I get emails
- 46:58Speaker 1: all the time for people saying this leg exempty. We've
- 47:00Speaker 1: got an opportunity for you to fly if you need
- 47:03Speaker 1: to put me on your email list, give it to
- 47:05Speaker 1: me and I just distributed when I get it because people,
- 47:08Speaker 1: I know you might need a private jet, so I
- 47:10Speaker 1: know that this is a I had to bring you
- 47:12Speaker 1: back because I am a man of my word, but
- 47:14Speaker 1: also had to bring you back because I know this
- 47:16Speaker 1: time of the year private jet business is busy. Okay, right,
- 47:20Speaker 1: it is, it is, It is all right, Thank you
- 47:23Speaker 1: so much. I really appreciate one more time to tell
- 47:25Speaker 1: everybody how they can book your book out your your
- 47:28Speaker 1: plane services on jets dot com. Yes, go to principal
- 47:32Speaker 1: Jet dot com, p R I, N C, I, P A,
- 47:36Speaker 1: L H T S dot com. Go there and just
- 47:39Speaker 1: click on the tab request of quote and we'll take
- 47:41Speaker 1: it from there. You keep winning, Okay. I appreciate it, sir,
- 47:44Speaker 1: Thank you, Take care. We're back with more. I'm a man.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Brian Dobbins, executive producer of Blackish, and his roster of
- 47:55Speaker 1: talent that he's associated with its scary good. So happy
- 48:00Speaker 1: to get him on the call. I appreciate everybody but
- 48:03Speaker 1: listening so far. The first hour of money making conversation
- 48:06Speaker 1: has now expired. Our two coming up my next guest, um,
- 48:12Speaker 1: so happy to get off. I've been trying to get
- 48:14Speaker 1: him for like a month. Now. That's how business this
- 48:16Speaker 1: young man is. And I know where he's business because
- 48:19Speaker 1: he's running a sitcom and board. When you run into
- 48:23Speaker 1: the sitcom and that day to day operation deal with
- 48:26Speaker 1: the scripts, sometimes you don't have time or money to
- 48:29Speaker 1: talk to anybody. But I got him on the phone.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Let me get a quick rap set up of who
- 48:33Speaker 1: he really is. He's one of the executive producers of
- 48:36Speaker 1: the the incredible ABC series black Is. Part of the
- 48:41Speaker 1: management firm includes the clientele of the clients of Anthony Anderson,
- 48:46Speaker 1: Tracy Ellis, Ross from Rico Lee, Earthquake, Kenya Barrish, who
- 48:51Speaker 1: was the creator and the executive producer of Blackish, f
- 48:54Speaker 1: Gary Gray, Regia Hall, just to name a few. Please
- 48:58Speaker 1: welcome to money Making Conversation for the very first time.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I know he's calling it from l A. Mr Brian Dobbins,
- 49:06Speaker 1: Hello everybody, Hey dark Bryan. I'm I can't believe I
- 49:11Speaker 1: got you on the phone because I know your schedule
- 49:13Speaker 1: is crazy. Uh huh uh you know, uh, just trying
- 49:19Speaker 1: to make it man. You know, it's uh a lot
- 49:22Speaker 1: going on at all times, and I'm doing my best
- 49:24Speaker 1: to juggle it all. Well. First of all, first of all,
- 49:28Speaker 1: I gotta say that's African American. That's powerful and because
- 49:32Speaker 1: in this business, um, I know, being a talent, uh,
- 49:36Speaker 1: fifteen years ago, the type of roster that you have
- 49:39Speaker 1: are being associated with was not associated with the African
- 49:41Speaker 1: American representative, whether in the agency all management. What are
- 49:46Speaker 1: your thoughts on that? And nothing negative when I'm saying that,
- 49:48Speaker 1: it's just that you have shown that you've developed a trust,
- 49:52Speaker 1: you developed a resume that that tells people that come
- 49:57Speaker 1: with you in your winner timber what that means when
- 50:00Speaker 1: I to the average listening, when I'm saying that to
- 50:03Speaker 1: a young man who high powered multimillion dollar talent, because
- 50:06Speaker 1: that roster is incredible, man, Um, well, thank you. And
- 50:11Speaker 1: before I go into I just want to be clear
- 50:13Speaker 1: on a couple of things. Number one, you know, I
- 50:15Speaker 1: don't you know, I think the bio information you got
- 50:18Speaker 1: is a little old. I don't Earthquake is no longer
- 50:21Speaker 1: client or Connor is ron Rico. Um yeah, you know.
- 50:28Speaker 1: So Look I think, um, you know, I've been doing
- 50:33Speaker 1: this a long time and um, you know a lot
- 50:37Speaker 1: of the talent that I represent, As you point out
- 50:39Speaker 1: the African American talent, and they are you know a
- 50:44Speaker 1: lot of times, I and you know, even myself when
- 50:46Speaker 1: I was coming up, we made to feel like, you know,
- 50:50Speaker 1: you better get it quick because it's not gonna it's
- 50:52Speaker 1: not gonna happen if you don't. Um And and what
- 50:55Speaker 1: I mean by that is, you know, there was not
- 50:58Speaker 1: It doesn't feel like there's many opportunities out there for
- 51:01Speaker 1: African American talent, and there's not. The business at large
- 51:05Speaker 1: is not set up for we're designed for us to
- 51:08Speaker 1: to really carve out long lasting careers. Um. So uh,
- 51:14Speaker 1: you know, I think that one of the things that
- 51:18Speaker 1: I'm in charge of, and I think a lot about
- 51:20Speaker 1: a lot, is that I have to be I have
- 51:23Speaker 1: to work with people who are often trying to figure
- 51:28Speaker 1: out ways to extend their careers. Um. And I'm I'm
- 51:33Speaker 1: I take that very seriously. I'd like to say, you know,
- 51:36Speaker 1: we're in the I'm in the pretend business a little
- 51:38Speaker 1: bit because if you ever visit a set or a
- 51:41Speaker 1: TV set or a film set, it's all artifices. Nothing
- 51:44Speaker 1: real is you know, there's sets, but it's not real.
- 51:47Speaker 1: And to carve out a career, uh, and to be
- 51:50Speaker 1: able to help somebody sustained there themselves and carve out
- 51:54Speaker 1: financial and career success in a business that is pretend
- 51:59Speaker 1: all day. Um, is a real large responsibility. And you know,
- 52:03Speaker 1: I've had you know, many clients for many years, um,
- 52:08Speaker 1: and I've watched them, you know, moved from their apartment
- 52:10Speaker 1: to the house and get married and private school and
- 52:15Speaker 1: you know, and and you have to be able to.
- 52:18Speaker 1: You gotta live in you have to. You have to
- 52:19Speaker 1: be able to, you know, think about how you're going
- 52:22Speaker 1: to have a lifetime of success in this business. And
- 52:26Speaker 1: it is very competitive and a bad movie or a
- 52:30Speaker 1: bad show or you know, bad performance and people are
- 52:36Speaker 1: questioning your longevity. So my big part of what I
- 52:40Speaker 1: do is, you know, work with people and make sure
- 52:43Speaker 1: that they have long jevityes in their in their careers
- 52:46Speaker 1: and help them make continue to make good decisions about
- 52:50Speaker 1: their careers and their lives. Well, you're doing a fantastic job.
- 52:53Speaker 1: And I'll stick with the roster that I apologize for
- 52:57Speaker 1: mentioning the names I talked to about staff about allow
- 52:59Speaker 1: me to communicate those errors to you like that publicly,
- 53:02Speaker 1: and I apologize, But I would tell you this, uh
- 53:06Speaker 1: interesting when you when you when you talk about longevity
- 53:09Speaker 1: and making money in this unreal world, because it really is.
- 53:14Speaker 1: It's always looked at multiple strings of income. That's what
- 53:17Speaker 1: I always viewed it as. And when I see that
- 53:19Speaker 1: a client like Anthony Anderson, he's not only making money
- 53:23Speaker 1: on this sitcom, he's making money on the game show.
- 53:26Speaker 1: He's like the annual host of the the Image Awards. Uh, All,
- 53:31Speaker 1: that is what you're talking about, correct, And then of
- 53:33Speaker 1: course Tracy Ellis Ross hosted h American Music Awards last night.
- 53:38Speaker 1: That's right, Yeah, that that is what I'm talking about. UM,
- 53:42Speaker 1: you know, and and part of it is, you know,
- 53:44Speaker 1: you have to be working with the right people because
- 53:47Speaker 1: what what what I'm I mean indicating with that is,
- 53:51Speaker 1: you know, Anthony and Tracy and a good portion of
- 53:55Speaker 1: people are working with they work very hard. I don't
- 53:57Speaker 1: I take people you know perfect you know an entertainers
- 54:01Speaker 1: say this, but I'll say it from the management side.
- 54:04Speaker 1: You know, the people that UM are the most successful
- 54:09Speaker 1: work incredibly hard. They sacrifice a lot of their free
- 54:13Speaker 1: time UM and put it forward for their careers and
- 54:18Speaker 1: you look there at they're they're pay well and it
- 54:20Speaker 1: can be an exciting life if it can also be
- 54:22Speaker 1: a challenging life, and it can be lonely at times too,
- 54:25Speaker 1: because you know, you're you don't get an opportunity to
- 54:29Speaker 1: spend as much time with your family like you know,
- 54:31Speaker 1: and and me and support of so many clients, you know,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you know, forty seven clients something like that. So me
- 54:37Speaker 1: and support of that many people, I give up a
- 54:40Speaker 1: lot of my free time also, uh, in order to
- 54:44Speaker 1: do that, you know, I find time to myself, but
- 54:47Speaker 1: you know, in order to be in the places where
- 54:51Speaker 1: some of the people that you noted are in their
- 54:53Speaker 1: lives and their careers, it's a lot of sweat equity
- 54:56Speaker 1: that goes into it. And Anthony, you know, and you
- 55:01Speaker 1: know Anthony and Tracy, like they're just natural born hustlers anyway,
- 55:05Speaker 1: you know, like you telling the truth? Now, you telling
- 55:08Speaker 1: the truth? Yeah? And then then that's I mean Anthony,
- 55:12Speaker 1: he's you know, he's always out, He's always in places,
- 55:15Speaker 1: he's always meeting people. He's always saying, I'm at this person.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Let's let's set up as set up a meeting, let's
- 55:20Speaker 1: have a conversation. And you know he will, you know,
- 55:25Speaker 1: he'll he'll get the party started and I'll come in
- 55:28Speaker 1: to bring the chips in the depth, you know, like,
- 55:31Speaker 1: so it really you really have to be working with
- 55:34Speaker 1: people who who really want it anyway. Um, you know,
- 55:37Speaker 1: I always say, you know to people that, um, if
- 55:41Speaker 1: you're not really putting in the work, you're just not
- 55:44Speaker 1: gonna get very far. And the harder you work and
- 55:46Speaker 1: luckier you get, isn't that key because of the fact
- 55:49Speaker 1: that you know being and being And I've been imagining
- 55:52Speaker 1: talent myself, and sometimes when talent signs you up, they
- 55:55Speaker 1: think the work is done, that you're just gonna go
- 55:57Speaker 1: out there and land all these great deals. But it
- 56:00Speaker 1: really is to continued hustle and enthusiasm that your talent
- 56:05Speaker 1: that you that you signed up continues to do because
- 56:08Speaker 1: a lot of the times you get relationships created by them.
- 56:11Speaker 1: I know when I was talking to Anthony Anderson last
- 56:14Speaker 1: year and he was talking to me about how he
- 56:16Speaker 1: came up with the the Walmart commercial campaign. That was
- 56:19Speaker 1: something he just ad libbed with a video he shot
- 56:22Speaker 1: and it turned into a big deal for him and
- 56:25Speaker 1: he was plastered on TV the whole month of December
- 56:28Speaker 1: for Walmart of last year. So I know they continued hustle,
- 56:32Speaker 1: and I know both Tracy and Anthony from the w
- 56:35Speaker 1: B and the up n Days, and they've always done
- 56:39Speaker 1: additional stuff and not when I said additional stuff, showing
- 56:42Speaker 1: up for the Neighborhood Awards and showing up for any
- 56:44Speaker 1: charity event that I wanted. And that's what you're talking about,
- 56:48Speaker 1: that grind that sometimes doesn't carry a check, but it
- 56:51Speaker 1: creates a relationship and also keep their brand out there
- 56:54Speaker 1: in a powerful level with the fans that they want
- 56:58Speaker 1: to have watched their shows and support the shows. Yeah,
- 57:02Speaker 1: I mean you you start off by saying that you
- 57:06Speaker 1: know some talent, so they expects like, you know, I
- 57:08Speaker 1: just get a you know, I'll get the right representation, representation,
- 57:11Speaker 1: and everything will take care of yourself. It does not
- 57:13Speaker 1: work that way. I'm not a wizard, you know. Say
- 57:18Speaker 1: that one more time. Say that one more time. Brother,
- 57:20Speaker 1: say that I am him. I'm not a wizard. I
- 57:26Speaker 1: think I'm pretty good at what I do. I think
- 57:28Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing, but I also know, you
- 57:32Speaker 1: know that I have to be. I work with people
- 57:35Speaker 1: who really really wanted and working it. They weren't doing this,
- 57:38Speaker 1: they probably successful doing something else, but they're doing it,
- 57:41Speaker 1: and then they've asked you to take him to the
- 57:44Speaker 1: next level. And that's what you're doing. What I saw
- 57:47Speaker 1: when I saw the Tracy Aller walk one that Golden Globe,
- 57:50Speaker 1: I was like, Wow, this is crazy. Coud, this is
- 57:53Speaker 1: this is crazy. It's good. So let me. I'm gonna
- 57:56Speaker 1: go through. I got it for two breaks here and
- 57:57Speaker 1: then I'm gonna take my time and enjoy the conversation
- 58:00Speaker 1: because I want to talk about you know, you from
- 58:02Speaker 1: Long Beach, California. I lived in l A for fifteen years,
- 58:06Speaker 1: so familiar with Long Beach, California. You know, when people
- 58:09Speaker 1: here Long Beach, who they here Snoop Dogg, Snoop Dogg
- 58:12Speaker 1: here an they here, they here and here a layer
- 58:15Speaker 1: of lifestyle, they really don't exist because they think that
- 58:19Speaker 1: that whole lifetyle has taken over the whole city of
- 58:21Speaker 1: Long Beach. Tell us about growing up in Long Beach
- 58:24Speaker 1: Brian Dobbin style. Okay, Uh, well, you know, yeah, I
- 58:30Speaker 1: grew you know, I grew up not that far from
- 58:33Speaker 1: from Snoop Honestly, I grew up a couple of three
- 58:36Speaker 1: blocks over from where he he grew up. And uh,
- 58:39Speaker 1: you know, we have family friends, and you know, I
- 58:43Speaker 1: think my father used to you know, hang out with
- 58:46Speaker 1: one of his uncle's years ago. So, um, but I
- 58:49Speaker 1: grew up in East Long Beach. It was you know,
- 58:52Speaker 1: it was it was a rough neighborhood. Know my um,
- 58:56Speaker 1: my grandmother and my father raised me. I was, uh,
- 59:01Speaker 1: you know, it's a local public school while all the
- 59:04Speaker 1: hard hands went. And my my family would not allow
- 59:07Speaker 1: me to do that as badly as I want to
- 59:08Speaker 1: go hang out out my friends. Yeah, they sent me
- 59:13Speaker 1: to a private school in Long Beach, not too far
- 59:16Speaker 1: from where I live. Um, and that that school was
- 59:20Speaker 1: actually mostly black. Um, but it was. I grew up,
- 59:25Speaker 1: you know, in a in a different environment than the
- 59:28Speaker 1: other kids on my block. So um, I spent eight
- 59:33Speaker 1: years um at at that private school. Um. You know,
- 59:37Speaker 1: my my family focused on education and I love sports.
- 59:42Speaker 1: I was kind of my first love. Um, you know
- 59:45Speaker 1: I was you know, school was just that that there was,
- 59:48Speaker 1: you know, getting good grades was there was no question
- 59:50Speaker 1: about that. I had to I wasn't. I don't think
- 59:54Speaker 1: I would have a place to live. I told people
- 59:57Speaker 1: my family's love was very It wasn't uncondition and on Okay,
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: like my daddy, you better you better bring home good
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: grades if you want if you want us to love
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: you so sothing like my dad. I went out there.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I went out the party when I went to college,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: and I walked in the room and was like walking
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: in the room looking talking to godfather. He was sitting
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: in the dark. I could just see half his face
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and I asked it for some money. Go what happen
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: to the money that the school gave you? Uh? He said, well,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I guess what you're gonna do is miss school this semester,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: hussun because I had to learn. I had to learn that,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: you know, and that's what I love. Because I come
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: from philth War, Texas, so I come from a background
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: where and my family moved me. We upgraded to another neighborhood.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: But you know, it wasn't like it was so far
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: away from the hood that I couldn't I had I
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: couldn't drive by. But I think that that I love.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: I wanted to bring it up because that that that
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: people telling you what you're supposed to do and not
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: what you want to do. It's what's missing a lot
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: of time and pairenting today the relationships because I didn't
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: want to be Rashard McDonald. I'm gonna tell you right now, Brian,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: I didn't want to be articulate. It was easy for
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: me to go play basketball in the streets. It was
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: easy for me to hop that fence. My mom goes
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: where I'm going to act like I didn't hear when
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: I hopped over that fence. But guess what she was
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: waiting when I came home though, Yeah, yeah, And that
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: sounds like that was this type of lifestyle that that
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: that that that that shaped you before you got to
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: use the l a. Yeah. Well yeah, Look, you know
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I grew up on you know, there's a lot of
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: pressure on me to do well. Um, and you know,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: I think, you know, there's this kind of the debate
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: between your nature, you know, how you're wired and what
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: your personality is and and your nurture and so you're
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: the environment that you're in. And you know, I put
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: a lot of pressure on myself anyway. I'm just I'm
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: just built that way. But my family also kept the
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: pressure up. And you know, pressure makes diamonds. So I
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: still put pressure on myself today with my know, the
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: upbringing I had really I think was one of the
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: biggest differences in my life because um, you know, I
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: was raising A safe environment is as bad as the neighborhood.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Uh and was um. And I saw a lot of
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: the people that I came up with, Um, they just
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: made you know, they made less the left turns when
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: you know, going straight. Yeah. So um, I was fortunate
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: and I kind of stayed out of trouble just where.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: You know. I was telling people my father was the
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: first domestic terrorists at when so uh it was there
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: was no uh yeah yeah yeah, so um yeah, so
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Long Beach was. You know, my father still lives there.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I still you know, still I'm still up there quite
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: a bit. Um. And uh I'm thankful because it's close
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: as Long Beaches to l A, um, which is you know,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: my thirty minutes from l A. It's a very different environments.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: It doesn't resemble l A at all. Um. And when
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: I when I started working in the entertainment business, I
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: really had no clue of about the entertainments, the entertainment
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: business and lifestyle. It might as well be you know
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Mars from Long Beach. Mm hmm, it's amazing. We were
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: gonna go get to a breakwork quick when you come back.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: I was going through the resume. It was telling me
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: about John London roommate, I see it's it's, it's it's.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: It's so funny when I when I go through your bio,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: you know, I've been in l a managing talent, doing
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: TV shows, so a lot of things that you're talking
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: about intersect my lifestyle. So and that gentleman right there
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: allowed me and Steve Harvard to to be who we
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: are today. So I want to come back in a
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: minute talk to you about that, just talk about and
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: also noticed that you had something to do with a
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: little comedy. You were doing a little comedy. Not you.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: You're trying to be funny year comedy right right and
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: right in material. I kind of know that that and
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: you're buying no, no, no, no no. I was working
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: with you know, I worked with some comedias. Okay, there
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: we go, There we go, there we go. Get this straight.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: You know, they just sent me this stuff and I
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: take my time to disentitate it. Sometimes I get it wrong.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Get me right on the hair, my brother, we'll be
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: right back, all right, We'll get it together. I love you, man,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I love you. Enjoyed the interview man, because I enjoy
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: having you on the show, and hopefully we'll be a
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: friends after this. By relationships, brother, We'll be right back
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: with more Money Making Conversation. One of the primary executive
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: producer of the series hit series on ABC, Black Ryan Dobtinds,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: will be right back. Thank you very much, Bye bye, Hira.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Sean McDonald here host the Money Making Conversation show where
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: interview celebrities, industry decision makers, CEOs, and entrepreneurs and UH
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: discover what makes them successful so I can share those
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: secrets with you on the show. Today, I have my man,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: Brian Dobbins. Welcome back, Brian, Thank you very much. Hey, Brian,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: here's a deal with me man. You know, um, I
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: got into management. I stumbled into management. Okay. I've been
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: giving advice to Steve Harvard, good friend amount over the years,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: and then one day and nineteen ninety, Steve came up
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: to me and said, man, will you manage me? I
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: didn't even understand what the heck he was talking about,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: you know managed? You know, I was a right sitcom
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: writer on on Jamie Foxx Show at the time. I
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: was going over to UH The Parkers at the time
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: as a sitcom writer, producer, co executive producer. All these
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: different titles you have as a right over the years
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: and but I look at your resume, it seems like
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: that's something you were comfortable with from the beginning. And
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: my correct or, did I misread something that you didn't
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: mind managing talent? You didn't mind that that that they're
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: taking on that role, that responsib because this responsibility of
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: doing that a high level. Yeah, I mean, I uh,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: I sort of I kind of fell into you not
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: started off working at a talent agency, one of the
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: bigger talent agencies in in uh in l A and
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: in our business. And you know, the thing I learned
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: there is I did not want to be an agent.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: It's a it's a very different job. Um, there's a
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: redundancy between the agent and manager and that we're both
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: you know, out there trying to create opportunity for the
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: clients that we work with. But the way that an
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: agent and a manager function are very different. And so,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: you know, working at a town agency, I got a
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: chance to see a bunch of you know, a lot
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: of a lot of different kinds of careers that we're
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: out there, and I got a chance to experience management,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: and I got I got, I got excited about management
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: because it's a it's an application, it's a career that's
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: allows for some versatility. Um, you can be a lot
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: more creative as a manager. Um, you get an opportunity.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: You know, you can produce as a as a as
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: a manager, whereas as as an agent. You know, you're
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: you know, from a legislative from a legal standpoint, you're
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: barred from being a producer. Um. And at one point
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I thought, I really want to be a producer. And
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: time has going on at less. You know, I do,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I do produce. I'll continue to produce things, but UM,
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: my primary focus is management. And and you know, I
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: think what I've always been good at is problem solving
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: and um, helping people kind of uh move and navigate
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: difficult situations. And I've I've always prided myself I'm being
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: a good decision maker and a lot of a lot
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: of what I do day in and day out. You know,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: each each phone call is about a different different decisions
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: be made. So, UM, as time has gone on, I
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: realized that it was, you know, sort of a calling
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: for me. You know I didn't realize when I first started. Well,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I like what you said, but there's a difference between
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: the agency, an agent and a manager. And I remember
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: when I because I represented by I seem I was
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: represented by endeavor and uh. And I remember a good
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: friend of mine when when he was at seeing Richard
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: White's Who's um and Uh, Richard said, Okay, Rashan, you're
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: like a train. I'm just trying to keep on the
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: track this when I was writing, you know, right, He said,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: I'm just trying to keep you on the track, dude,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: because your brain is all over the place. And it
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: was because I never I never could fit in that box.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: I never I never understood why I had to just
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: be this way. And that's why you're managing, not because
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: you didn't want to fit in that box. Because you
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: know it's an agent. You've been a literated partment. But
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: you can't cross over to the movies or you be
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: over the movies. You can't cross over to the reality
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: or your reality. You can't represent nobody in music. And
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: that's what you're talking about when you're saying that as
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: an agent you have to stay in your lane. Whereas
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: a manager, there the creative, the creative juice flow. And
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I remember Richard brought me in one time and I
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: was managing Steve and he said, Rashan, here's a problem
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I have with you. And he called in, He called
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: in somebody from literary department, he called in somebody from
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the film department, He called in somebody from the temp
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: from the from the film and film TV reality as
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: well as a production and events personality. He said, you
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: know when he failed, you're like seven people in the room.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: He said, that's the problem. That's why, that's the problem
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I had with you. That's a good problem because you
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: know too much. So they couldn't send me out with
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: with a with a with a rookie are startup agent
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: because I look at him like he was crazy because
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: I knew immediately he didn't know anything and so so
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: so management allows you to understand so many levels because
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you negotiated so many deals. And that's that's the part
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that drives you. I feel, that's the that's the point
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: that gets you excited that you can do all these
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: deals correct. Yeah, I mean. And the thing is like
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: when you as a manager, if you're client, one day
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: decides he wants to you know, if he's a if
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: he's an actor, and he decides one day he wants
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: to write, and uh, you know, and that that's happening.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: You know, I represent people who are the actors and
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: they just one day they want to write. And you know,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: what you want to be able to do is be
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: able to speak to that and understand how to transition
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: that individual into their new endeavor. You know, I'm very
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I get very excited by ambitious people. I think they're
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: I think they're attracted to me, and I'm attracted to
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: them because when they come to me with ambitious, ambitious notions,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: that actually excites me. That that that kind of that
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: that gives the juice from versus somebody who says, you know,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: I'm just happy to being a writer on a series
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: and you know, making my check and going home every day,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: you know, and I love that, you know. I I've
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: represented people like that. I represent people like that. The
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: most exciting part of my business is when somebody said,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: you know, comes to me with the big goal of
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: a big dream and we'll figure out of way to
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: make turn that that dream into reality. UM. And you know,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: sometimes people come to you with notions that are too
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: far fetched. UM. But you know, for the most part,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: people come to me and say, I want to do X,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Y and Z, and how do I how do we
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: go about doing that? How do we get them? We yeah,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: how do we get there? And so it's it's uh,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: you know, and and it's never one one chess move,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: which usually you know over the course of you know,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: your success and success trajectory is you know, that could
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: be two three years. Then you go, how about to say,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: put the words several years in there. You know, it's
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: not the library, it's not the lobry. Come on, it
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: is not and it's not it's not no overnight successes.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: That's not the way things work, and that's important. But
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: also what you say it was is about how much
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: effort are they willing to put forth? You know, if
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: they're just willing to do their gig and go home
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: and getting bad, well, guess what you know, when you
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: make the red carpets, you know, when you make the
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: celebrity events, you know, so I can introduce you to
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: certain people and they can just see you out and
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: realize that they like your personality, they like to get
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: you engaged and things like that. You know that that's
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Hollywood scene, which a lot of people says fake, a
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: lot of people say it's annoying, but that's really how
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: the system works. And a lot of times you have
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: to be out there in order to depend on where
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: you're at, because you know, let's lose Anthony Anderson for example,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Anthon Athon gets out a lot in a good way.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: I'm not saying that's a bad way. I mean, he
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: makes the red carpet, he makes the award shows. So
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: when he hosts his game show, well, he's probably encountered
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: these celebrities who are coming on this game show, and
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: so that's a that's an even more comfortable bond and relationship.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Same thing with the with the Image Award. He's probably
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: have encountered these this talent on a red carpet. A
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: different shows are different ward shows, and so that makes
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: everything more comfortable and it becomes a much more engaging
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: situation for him. If he decided one day to do
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: his own talk show, that's right, yeah, I mean he
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: you know, you talk about the getting out and the
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: meeting of people and the parties and U events. You
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: know that they are there, they're coming some people. You know.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: I talked to my friends outside the business, and they
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: think I'm jaded because I said, you know, I really
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: don't want to go come on back. I know that
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: feeling front. Come on, man, I know that feeling. Yeah,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: but I've learned. I've learned to play that game the
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: way that I wanted playing, which is, you know, you
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: go in and you say hello to a few people,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: and you know, you attend and then you don't have
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: to be there all night. You say, you say to
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: the right people. Bright, That's what it is. How you're doing,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: How you doing? Yeah? There? You know, I also think
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: that you you you know, there there's there, there's amount,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: there is amount of you know what happens in l
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: A and you you know Rashana is that there's a
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: and it's not even l A people, it's really just
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: the entertainment business. There you go, I'm you know, born
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: and raised in southern California, so I'm gonna stand up
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: for my my my sector of the world. They're really
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: genuine people. The entertainment this reads there's a currency and
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: the entertainment business of what can you do for me?
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: What can I get from you? And you know what
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I've learned over the years is you know, there's a
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: lot of that goes on, that goes on, but you know,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: you you figure out who to surround yourself, which parties
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: you're gonna go to what you meant you're gonna go to,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: which charities are gonna hit and you know that the
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: kind of people you want to surround yourselfing. I don't.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I'm not only the people feel like I need to
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: be in business with everybody to be successful. That's not
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: that's not it works either. Yeah, I don't need to
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: know everyone either. I certainly know a lot of people.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I've got to know a lot of people over the years.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: But the people that are really really rocked with are
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: people that I have. You know, these are relationships I've
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: cultivated over many years. And you know, so when I
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: intend a lot these events, when you said the right people,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: it's the people that I want. I choose this surround
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: myself with people that are saying I'm doing business because
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: you and also and also good good people with integrity.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: You know. You let me say you some man, you
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: don't get this roster man, because first of all, you know,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: your reputation is I always love it when people say, man,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: I called around with Shawan and and every time I
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: talked to somebody saying nothing but good things about you,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: because you know, because because that's important, man, Because I'm
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: a tough guy. Man I'm a tough guy. I have standards.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: I admit it. Sometimes I can rub people the wrong
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: way if you don't understand my goal. My goal is
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: for everybody to win. And a lot of people. Oh
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: you know, he he talked to you, and you know
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: he's so demanding and he expects so much from you.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: You know, you know you try to leave it a
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: certain time. He's looking at you like you're crazy. Well,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: I'm just saying that I worked twenty four hours a
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: day and when I get up, when I go to sleep,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I'm working to wake up, Okay. And that's mentality is
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: what you developed, man. And I'm so respectful for you. Man,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: I'm so appreciative that you took the time to share
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: your story. You know it goes on my Heart radio
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: podcast and and Apple podcast as well. And I just
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: want to let you know, man, this this your value
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: as an African American man because you're so unique and
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: and and I gotta say it for for for the
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: talent roster to trust your word is impressive to you
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: as a man and who your family raised. Man, You're special.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Due Thank you, man, Thank you. I really appreciate that
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: that that that is very meaningful. To me. I really
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: appreciate you saying that, Hey, man, do you keep winning,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: brother and keep making hits? Uh? Like I said, Uh,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: if you have time, man, I'd love to bring you
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: back on. I'm syndicating the show to colleges because I
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: want to really hit that eighteen or thirty four audience.
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: Uh in eighteen and I knew your brand would be
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: a brand that I want to sell and tell people about. Because, man,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: what you're doing is not gonna end in twenty eighteen,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: is only gonna get bigger. You have a clear understanding
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: that this is what you want to do in life,
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: and this is a skill set that you can only
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: build on. Keep winning, my brother, will I appreciate you too, man,
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you for having me on. I talk
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: to you anytime you need me. I'll be around. I
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: think my brother appreciate you. Man. All right, we're back
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: with more of money making conversation. Going to laugh, hands out.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: We just wrapped up a man, Brian Dobbins, Hey, this
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: is Sean mc don't go on just the final I
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: don't have our money making conversations and we have been
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: doing it now. I think it's only appropriate the week
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: before thankshire the week up Thanksgive, when everybody's eating up
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: a storm, including myself. Sweepertat about. I would tell you this,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: we cant our consume at least to sweeper Tati fires
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: half a gayman to talk the kke probably four or
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: five good scoops, the peach cobbler, and some monkey bread
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: this weekend. That's on top of the ham, the dressing
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: I used, the jelly cranberry sauce. I say, all this
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: is I'm about to introduce the man who actually probably
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: loved to hear these type of conversations because he weighing
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: on these people like me that come staggering into his
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: gim to try to get it off and act like
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: we can drop it as fast as we put it on.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: My guest is a certified personal trainer, is the creator
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: and head fitness coach women's fitness program j CF Health
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: and Fitness. Please work the money making conversation. Darris Wilson,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Hey man, hey man, You'll be waiting on people like me,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: don't you. There's come on now over eating the eyes
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: so big I'm talking about there's one time I was
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: on the plane. Man, this is when I was mad
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: at myself. I had to I would tell im, I'm
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna style a little bit. I was in
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: first class. I had to unbutton my top button on
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: my paints. Dude, I had exceeded my waistlinfe recommendations right there. Dude.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: I knew then I had exceeded. When you when you
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: start busting out your clothes in public, you know you
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: gotta stop eating. Man. I got that story. I never
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: told about that story public. I ain't. I told that
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: story to my wife, but I got a bit with
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: you because I'm testing. When you're a fitness guy, you
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: hear these stories because people just just just want you
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: to make a You're a miracle worker, arch, sir. Your
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: miracle workers come on to tell the truth. People look
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: at you and they want you to drop that fifty
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: pounds in a week, don't they. Yeah, I mean it's
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: definitely a part of the job. Definitely be missing uh
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: debunking quite a bit of uh. This just kind of
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: giving working without members to get them much their water weight.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: They want to get that water weight off of that
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: water weight. You know that hot yoga, that that hot yoga,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: going that little fifteen pounds that hot yoga for a week.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: So I wanted to bring your show. Now. Let just
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: to talk about your career, your business, but just try
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: some of these myths that people got out here and
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: and and you talking to a guy. Let me get
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: a little background about me in the health and fitting.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something what I said earlier, my friend,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: that's how I eat. I ain't gonna lie to you.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: I will eat what I when you. If you ever
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: eat dinner with me, a lunch with me, I will
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: order dessert before my hamburger. Come our dessert for my stay.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: Show up all my salad. I wanted dessert. And I
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: can't tell you the looks I get when people go, okay,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: I'll be a salad. I said, I want to. I
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: want to Greek salad and I want a medium steak.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: And I said, what are your dessert menu? They said, sir,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: we bring no no, no, no, no no no. Where's
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: your dessert menu right now? Okay? Because I got started
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: that right now before the salade? Sir, Yes, yes, yes,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: I come up. I come from my family of six
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: sisters and two brothers. Okay. If you didn't finish your
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: food fast and ran over, the kick is dessert. It
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: was gold it was gold. So my mentality is always
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna get my dessert first, eat my food. And
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: I guessed what And I'm living a good life and
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: enjoying it. Sir, welcome to my show. I just want
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: you to know what personality that you were working with.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: So when you start talking to me and I say
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: something crazy, you want pause for a minute, and got it.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: I'm read there with good We'll talking about, well, how
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: do you deal with people like me, sir? How you
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: doing to me? Just just just eat like a fool,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Just eat like a fool. But what but just complain
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: about putting on weight? How you deal with people like me? Well,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: I think this first is just kind of building a
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: rapport and getting an idea of kind of what what
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: got you to the point of um wanting to being
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: interested in our program? For us, we know our members
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: are folks that have tried personal training, they have done
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: the gym, and for the reason, they need a little
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: bit more structure, a little bit more accountability for support.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: So it's just a lot of developing a report and meeting, uh,
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: meeting them where they are in order for us to
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: get them to where they want to be. So and
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: there's different ways we do that, whether it's a questionnaire
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: that we have them complete, sitting down on a one
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: on one basis, um, being able to uh sort of
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: dissect where they are, um, what kind of got them
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: there and ultimately where where are they trying to go?
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: And that's that's key. And I've looked at a little
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: history on the health and Fitness son in the eighties.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: Now I was. I was a fitness instructor of robic instructor,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: so I had the leggies, you know, little tight ladies,
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: you know, for Jane. Father was my queen. Okay, I was.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: I was out there. And the one thing that I
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: always understood was that at the beginning of the month,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: my class was packed. You couldn't even find we were
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: a wall to wall pack. Okay, about midway well that month,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: my room didn't look the same. And by the very end,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I have maybe twenty to thirty of my class left.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: Because people thought, with that passion that this is what
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: they're gonna do, that they have time to do it.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: They have time to do it. And so the reason
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: I brought you on the show, because that doesn't technically
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: happen to you. You know, we just some people gonna
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: drop off, but they didn't drop off at the rate
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: that they dropped off from me because I was just
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: there teaching classes. But this is this is a passion
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: for you, and then you have a this is a
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: life I change for you. I didn't have that mentality,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: And I want you to explain to people when I
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: said this is a lifestyle change for you, and when
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: you're dealing with your clients, what exactly does that mean? Yeah,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: So for us, it's, uh, it's getting them. You know,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Initially we kind of do quite a bit of gamifying
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: of things to get them to um implement to sort
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: of habits that we want them to sort of uh
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: implement so and to follower through with. And so it's
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: then so getting them to do these things to where
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: they are getting them that's gonna not only help them
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: start to feel better, because the ideas that we can
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: get you to take entriest or start to implement some
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: of these things and you start to feel better, the
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: ideas you start to feel better, we want to always
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: be able to feel better, so we can get you
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: to that point. We want to then be able to
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: um get you to where you're implementing things on a
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: daily basis, and you have a group of people that's
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: around you that you know, like minded people, um, that's
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: going in the same direct, and you want to and
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: as we continue to do it, the ideas that we
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: want them these things to become part of their identity,
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: because if it's not becoming part of it, and then
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: it's just going to be another sort of thing that
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: they have tried, um and then kind of can go
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: you know, something that they tried and quote unquote didn't
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: work for them. So we started trying to meet them
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: where they are, as I mentioned before, by having them
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: gamify lots of things, whether it's intending a certain amount
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: of session, whether it's journaling food, whether it's uh uh
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: doing you know, just being part of the community and
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: the support and where that stuff start to become a
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: part of who they are and then they can get
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: to the point and when you know, when it becomes
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: your identity, that's when the changes really starts to happen
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: and you're able to maintain it. Because that's that's that's
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: important when I say that, because of the fact that
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: you know, even though I eat crazy, I do know
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: how like if I if I eat late, then I
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: won't eat early the next day because I know that
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: my body has to fully digested the food that I
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: consume the night before. And that's what people don't understand
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: about their body. I always tell people knowing your body
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: is to keep because your body is talking all the
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: time to you. And before we get into the whole
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: boot camp a series that you run, just give people
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: a little clear understanding. When I said, here your body,
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: hear what your body is saying, because that's the key
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: to what you're trying to tell them when you're talking
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: to them. Yeah. Absolutely, Um, that's a big part of
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: you know, A big part of what we do as
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: well is want to inform and be able to give
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: behind its digestible information so our service can continue to
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: continue to do their own due diligence. We do have
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: philosophies and things that we stand behind, but we also
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: have enough experience to know that it's not a one
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: size needs up at all, and so we want to
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: be able to power I remembers to be in tune
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: with their body and be aware of how certain things,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: how how your body reacts and responds to certain things,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: whether it's foods, whether it's lack of exercise, whether it's
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: you know, experience and is a certain having a certain
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: experience throughout your days when I remember to be aware
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: of those things. But now they can go back to
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: the drawing board along with some stuff that we give them.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: But now they can do exactly what's right for them
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: through the empowerment that they have received from us. Because
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: technologists made this game different. Man, the watches, the smartphones,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: and so the calorie counters. So it's changed the old game.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: When we come back, we're gonna come back because you're
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: based in New Jersey, correct, that's correct, Jersey City. Jersey
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: City is getting cold. It's getting cold, which is which
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: is good for business, which is good for business. We're
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: gonna talk about your business is getting cold. People coming
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: in New Year's Eve, New Year's resolutions, you know that.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Oh but that first quarter they'd be rolling through the door.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: But you can't find him in June. Be right back
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: from a man, dres Wilson. Bro he's in shape. Have
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: the problem I had with the people already in shape?
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Try to get me in shape. We guess what his personality,
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: his love, his lifestyle will make you want to win
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: with this brother of the Sydne, New Jersey. We're right
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: back for more money making conversations. Him back with money
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: making conversations on the phone because my Mandarris Wilson j
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: c L boot Camp, Health and Fit. Time of the year, man,
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: people put no weight, they don't want to put on
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: and guess what new year's coming up? How okay is this?
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: This is business talking. That's why I wanted to bring
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: you on the show because of the fact that you're
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: in the health and fitness business, but you're also in
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: the business to getting customers and keeping customers and also
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: to keep them then their lifestyle and health and longevity
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: will be will be achieved a lot longer. Now this
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: time of year, when you start realizing that your your
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: your your floor or the floor or people coming to
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: your gym starts to take off, and how do you
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: adjust for that? Yeah, so um, this time of years
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: typically the simular more so as where we start to
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: see kind of uh um, I guess a little bit
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: of a downturn in the sense of our our current
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: members um and us just kind of uh, I don't
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: want to stay packing it them for the year, but
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: just kind of slowing down because you know the kind
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: of give for big January push Uh that that that
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: we normally have happen now oh yeah, oh yeah, when
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: we will make sure we have a big push to
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: make sure we can uh give people through out doors
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: and really impact them and help them change lives. For us,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: it's about really being able to work and support our
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: members UM to not get them to the just get them,
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: help them achieve the goal, but also help them maintain
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: the goal. UM so well, and sometimes we feel like
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: we we feel like we have the best product, and
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: so we want to make sure we can work with
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: UM those people to give them some some some true
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: changes and some some good information, but also some really
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: legit coaching UM from a nutrition standpoint as well as
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: a fitness coaching perspective. Now, when you said the best product,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: what is that? What is the best well? Just well, UM,
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: our our services, the training that we offer, our environment,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: our members, UM. You know the biggest compliment we get
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: is our community and Tom uh yeah absolutely, And so
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: we want to you know, we feel like we have
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: m many of those things that that people need when
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: they're trying to create change. Not only because this is
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: not theoretic, but we've worked with over two thousand people, Um,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: and we're seeing the changes have to you know, on
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: a you know, hundreds of times. So we want to
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: be able to you know, when we talk about this
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: change is more so than just the fitness and nutrition
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: aspects of it, even though obviously nutrition is a huge,
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: huge part of it. Um, fitness is a huge part.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Um I always tell tell people is that the aspiration
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: that you have, the motivation is going to get you going,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: to get you going. You know, you have the aspiration
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: to want to do different things, to look a certain ways.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: But at some point the motivations, the internal motivation, it
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: has to kick on. And then at some point also
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: the support and accountability that you have outside of yourself
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: needs to be a huge part that's gonna help you
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: ride that way as well. So what we offer is
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: a huge part, uh, you know, on those things. So
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: how do you compete, my man? You compete in p
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: X Nanny Sean he got a thousand tapes out there,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: zoomer tapes. You know, you can they make it seem
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: like in fifteen days you're gonna be skinn it's dead home,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: you know. And then but your brand is to come
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: to me, is to come to me brand, come to me.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: But we're family. You know, you'll be working with people
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: will motivate you, be there with you, you know, create relationships,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: extended family type environment. That's the world you're trying to create,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: which is a fantastic world because sometimes you need motivation.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: You need to see somebody just like you deliver results.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: That is important. So how do you compete with that?
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Stead Home brand is out there that's making people millions
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: of dollars and and and and and and you know,
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: and so I grew up on the Jane Farther tapes.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: You know that was Jane Farder that you put that
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: tape in. You're supposed to get this kid in them up,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: you know with Jane Farther, but you're supposed to get
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: flat kap. You know, Austin that she was out the
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: same way. She still looks the same way. I do
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: them a little exercise with that, but I always realized
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: she's like she just ninety five pounds, Okay, I'm two
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: hundred pounds. That's a different exercise there. So, so when
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: you're looking at your your brand and you're motivating people
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: to win, how do you compete with that world? Yeah?
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: I think for us has just been very clear on
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: what our objectives are and you know who and who
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: our audiences. Yes, sir, who is your audience? Who is
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: your audience? There? Yeah, I mean I'm always want to
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: be women from twenty smart um yeah. Um. And you
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: know they are. They're in the fitness hope sort of
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: realm already from a psychographic perspective. Um, but they also
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: have the disposable income because we're not the cheapest around
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: and we don't ever try to match that, you know,
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: we just try to deliver value. But then we can
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: create a lane of our own. So to kind of
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: go back to what you mentioned as or how do
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: we compete, I think it's just that being cleared on
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: who we are, and you know pretty much our members
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: are getting uh personal personal training pretty much in the
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: in the in the group setting, so um, they get
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: the instruction of working one on one not on one
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: thing great, you know, big shouts to you know, Beach
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Body and ninety X and you know insanity, insanity and
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: those things. Um. But the difference that they can't offer
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: what we can is that none of those trainers are
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: gonna come out of that screen and tell you you know,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: you're doing something correctly. If you're doing something, you know,
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: it's all we're talking wrong. And so that's kind of
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: how we differentiate ourselves. But also they don't have to
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: go to a gym where they're going to pay an
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: additional eighty five dollars percession of work with a trainer.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: We're gonna kind of create those things and put that
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: together in our program um and then they're going to
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: have the group environment, the motivation, the high energy of
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: a group setting. So we really is getting um being
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: able to kind of knock out a few birds with
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: one stone with what's the process was what we're offering,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: and that's how we are able to uh compete in
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: this marketing kind of creates not kind of but create
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: a lane of our own um. And for us, it's
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: not really focusing on what the competition is doing, to
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: be quite frank, it's more story about continuing to continuing
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: to deliver on our values and our problems with style members.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: And when we can do that and do that at
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: a high level, then they're going to sell their friends
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: about it and then they're going to bring friends in,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: which has been tremendous with our us put a lot
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: of businesses referrals. Yeah, so you have you have different
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: levels of promotion. You have the the end of the
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: year promotion, get your year started, four year end, and
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: then you have the New Year's resolution promotion, and then
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: you got the promotion get five and fold, the summer promotion,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: and then getting in at the end of the something
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: get get get get sexy for your kids, go back
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: to school. You know. So all these believe me, I've
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: been selling I've been selling this stuff a long time, man.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: And so so when you're when you're promoting, that's just
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: a promotion, you know, just to get him in that door.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: And when you get them in that door, like I said,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: you know this, man, the beginning of the mark registration
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: is high, you know, because people think like that, I'm
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna set my goal. I'm gonna start at
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: the beginning of the mark and I'm gonna see it through.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Same thing with resolutions. That first quarter of any year
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: is the highest level of registration for memberships that you
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: can have because people have said in their mind that
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: they're gonna do it that way. How do you keep
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: these people engaged and how do you keep moving forward?
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: And man, you know, I'm so proud of what you're
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: doing because I know from experience that it's it's it's
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: a constant battle to convince people that yeah, you want
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: them as a customer, but you can live longer and
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: have a better life if you just do what I'm
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: asking you to do. That's all you're telling. Yeah, Um,
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: I think like you said, man, I think you have
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: to meet people where they are. So people it's more
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: sexy to drop weights or to get a six bag
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: or to drop a pants uh. Um, So we do
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: have to meet them where they are. UM. And that's
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: where you know, we do have the challenges um. But
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: what we call challenges of promotion to get people in.
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: But on the on the back end, member Sean, is
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: that we are kind of giving on what they want,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: but we want to make sure that they're getting what
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: they need where a lot of the things happen for
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: us when they when you are part of the program,
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: UM and I and we that's when we over deliver
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: as well. You know, they get a lot more support
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: than the anticipated They get a lot more nutrition and
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: personalized coaching. UM. When when they when they're registered after
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: you know, once their own board UM and then they've
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: got you've got this this this seed of two hundred
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: plus members who are um you know, not only have
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: been where you are, because they are also setting the patient,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: setting the talk own um what it could be like
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: once you do achieve the goal, right, Because that's another
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: thing that we do is that work with our members
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: to kind of read set their targets. So initially they
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: may have body composition goals and that's fine. When we
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: accomplished that, right, we had that sort of character's driving
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: us the whole time. And then once we achieve it,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: now we got to reset and reclibrate and and target
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: something else. So we continue to have that drive, we
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: continue to have the consistency toward it. So we want
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: to see how members go from achieving the weight loss
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: goal or the fat laws to goal or driving sizes
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: and I don't focus it more on really driving their
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: fitness and that can be from completing five case teamks
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: have marriage on to you know, optacle course races or
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: um just kind of really start to work finding that
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: next thing to work towards. So that's how we've been
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: able to sing together, keeping people to uh, you know,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: to kind of do away with just just kind of
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: that's more near side of losing the weights, where it
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: becomes with a lifestyle and really with a long jetty
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: becomes a huge part of their life. I'm coming up
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: New York in three weeks. You don't mind, I'm gonna
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: drop out and see your space, man, because as my ideas, man,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: just you know further, ain't no charge here, brother, God
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: gives me these gifts man, and uh and that I
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: have to share as some ideas just to just to
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: promote some angles. Sit down to Richard, we thought about that.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: Cool just won't to know if you had it, Okay,
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: we never thought about that. I want to see if
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: you have a testimonial wall, all those little things, you know,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: how you re engaging the peoples, your success stories through
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: the social media, all that stuff you're probably doing. I'm
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: just gonna get that third hour and some things for
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: your charge. That all right, that's perfectly fine, and that
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: that part of that part of our sport value is bailly. Um.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: We're always looking to get a little better. And so
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: that's no matter whether me or my like that. That's
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: part of who we are, um and what we're about.
