- 0:00This shit ain't nothing to me, man. This is Boxing
- 0:03Before Dark. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Back. Back.
- 0:06Back. Back. Back. Before. Before. Before. Before.
- 0:11Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing Before Dark. This
- 0:15is Boxing Before Dark. Oh, man. Let me start
- 0:26the timer. Because that's what we do here. Boxing
- 0:29Before Dark. We are your... We are very professional.
- 0:33Your compatriots in boxing nerddom. Joined by
- 0:38Shanada. What'd it do? It do not much this weekend,
- 0:45which is good. I finally have two full days.
- 0:47I don't have to go to work. That's good. And
- 0:52there's no boxing either. No, there's something
- 0:57on right now that I'll watch later. Whatever
- 0:59the DAZN card is. Raul Curiel, I think. Yeah,
- 1:03it was supposed to be Alexis Rocha, but he got
- 1:06hospitalized for something. I think he was having
- 1:11his weight cut went poorly. That's rough. Yeah.
- 1:17Just a few days out, too. Oh, man. Speaking of
- 1:23rough. Gervonta Davis, arrest warrant. It is
- 1:28official. I mean, it's about time, in my opinion.
- 1:32I guess they were just getting their ducks in
- 1:34a row. But did you see all the documents? I forget
- 1:40which one. I think it was Boxing Scene linked
- 1:42all the public documents about it. No, I didn't
- 1:45see that. And the police statements. Yeah, it's
- 1:47basically all on video, like we thought from
- 1:50the civil case. Yeah. So, yeah, he's fucked.
- 1:55They also have documented death threats and stuff
- 1:58going back a while. It's not going to go well,
- 2:04I don't think. Like, Tank has the money to buy
- 2:08a really good lawyer, but I don't think anybody's
- 2:11getting you out of this one, buddy. Yeah, we're
- 2:13just doing damage mitigation at this point. Yeah,
- 2:17and all, like, memes and jokes aside, I guess
- 2:20they were dating, but she broke up with him,
- 2:23like, a month before, and that's what set him
- 2:25off. Like, it's not over until I say it's over
- 2:30type thing. It's like, hmm. Come on, man. Yeah,
- 2:37they haven't found him, have they? Not that I've
- 2:41heard. Just the marshals, the federal marshals
- 2:44are looking for him. That's not a good place
- 2:48to be. The day after his arrest warrant, there
- 2:51was a standoff in Baltimore. And somebody texted
- 2:55me and they're like, oh God, it's Tank. It wasn't.
- 3:00I would have thought the same thing immediately.
- 3:03Like if I just saw the headline, standoff in
- 3:07Baltimore. Yeah, it was police standoff in Baltimore.
- 3:09And I was like, I'm sure it's not Tank. They
- 3:11think he's in Florida. Man, what? We already
- 3:19labeled him Villain of the Year for 2025 for
- 3:23all of this shit. That's... He's... Go on. He's
- 3:30gonna be one of those, like, what -if questions,
- 3:33I think, forever. Like, the wasted potential
- 3:36in Tank Davis. Yeah. There was talk about him
- 3:42coming back in 2026. But... I don't think that's
- 3:47gonna happen. I saw this morning that they made
- 3:51him champion in recess right now. He's WBA, right?
- 3:55Yeah. Just fucking strip him. This is an instance
- 3:59where stripping is appropriate. Like, even if,
- 4:04whatever, let's say it wasn't all on video and
- 4:08everything else, he's gonna be tied up in legal
- 4:11shit for, like, a year at least. he's not gonna
- 4:16come fight when he's on the run from the fucking
- 4:19feds like strip him yeah if he was if he was
- 4:24like medically recessed sure like if he was having
- 4:28a surgery or something or whatever that's not
- 4:31what this is but yeah exactly this is villainous
- 4:34behavior this is this is a perfect case of where
- 4:37stripping is appropriate i think yeah This is
- 4:43one of those times where boxing's a little embarrassing.
- 4:46Yeah, you're on the run from the feds for domestic
- 4:49abuse charges, but we're just gonna recess you.
- 4:53Boo. And he hasn't fought in over a year anyways.
- 4:58They could just strip him for inactivity. But
- 5:01it's tank. So that's not gonna happen. Fucking
- 5:06embarrassing. Well, maybe this will help pull
- 5:11us out of the embarrassing tailspin that is Tank
- 5:14Davis. The National Combat Sports Summit and
- 5:19their attempts to modernize boxing. Some key
- 5:23takeaways. The push to eliminate 10 -10 rounds,
- 5:28no matter if it's a very highly competitive round
- 5:32or a no -action round, 10 -10 scores are, quote,
- 5:37unacceptable. I like that move. Yeah. The California
- 5:43State Athletic Commission executive head exec
- 5:47said, if you turn in 10 -10 scores in California,
- 5:52don't expect to get called back to judge any
- 5:56more bouts there. Yeah. I never liked the 10
- 6:02-10 anyways. So I really like this move. Make
- 6:07them pick somebody. Like, you'll have more judges
- 6:12disagreeing, I guess, maybe. But in all honesty,
- 6:15at the highest level, there's not very many 10
- 6:18-10s outside of Britain anyways, is there? I
- 6:21have hardly ever seen one outside of Britain.
- 6:25Like, I don't remember the last time I saw a
- 6:2810 -10 on an American scorecard that was like
- 6:32a high -profile fight. So this feels like more
- 6:36of a... jab at the british judges to me like
- 6:40the british system it definitely is there's a
- 6:43few things in here that i'm like this wasn't
- 6:45really meant for the american like the americans
- 6:49this was meant to be made public and i assume
- 6:52specifically for the uk be like this is what
- 6:57we think of your system but we can't say that
- 6:59so we'll pretend it's a problem in ours oh yeah
- 7:04i'm just saying this for nobody in particular
- 7:07Yeah. 10 -10 scores are ridiculous. Yeah. The
- 7:14Association of Boxing Commissions, they were
- 7:18all in attendance. They want to more liberally
- 7:21award 10 -8 rounds. And this one I'm not so sure
- 7:27about. Yeah, this one I'm on the fence as well.
- 7:30I feel like this has a high potential for corruption.
- 7:36Exactly. This is going to make it really easy
- 7:39to fuck people on the scorecards, I think. That
- 7:45was something Josh had said, was there needs
- 7:48to be specific criteria, not just... The article
- 7:55said, well, from the summit, cases when a fighter
- 7:59decisively wins a round. That's a little bit
- 8:02too broad. That is so fucking vague. Exactly.
- 8:06Well, and, yeah. I would like to see something
- 8:12in there where, like, decisively wins the round
- 8:16and damages the other guy or something. Yeah,
- 8:19buzzes him or something. Yeah, if you decisively
- 8:23win and the guy is wobbled at any point. But
- 8:26then that kind of leads it open to somebody landing
- 8:29one big shot, so somebody who's completely lost
- 8:32the round but wobbles somebody. getting a 10
- 8:35-8 the other way. Like, that's not how it should
- 8:39work either. Jack Reiss, on that point, he said,
- 8:44don't confuse activity with effectiveness. But
- 8:49again, I think... Like, this is the problem.
- 8:54All these things are so fucking vague. Because
- 8:57that also don't... Don't confuse a couple of
- 9:01counter shots with somebody being dominant. Right?
- 9:07Like, I think this is just going to completely
- 9:09polarize the judging even more. And we're going
- 9:12to get a whole bunch of score or fights where
- 9:16judges have it like 118 to 112 opposite ways.
- 9:23You're going to get the judge that likes activity
- 9:26and thinks that the guys buzzed them and stuff.
- 9:28And give it to the come forward Mexican. And
- 9:31then you're going to get somebody who likes counter
- 9:33punches. And is going to give 10 -8 rounds to
- 9:36the back foot counter puncher. In the same fight.
- 9:41For landing like 5 clean shots. Versus the 50
- 9:45that the other dude landed. That were ineffective.
- 9:49Yeah glancing or not as clean. Yeah. Like, I
- 9:55don't know. I think they're going to try and
- 9:58make all these changes and there's going to be
- 10:01a lot of growing pains. Especially with the 10
- 10:04-8 rounds. I think they're going to have to undo
- 10:05that one in a couple years. I hope they don't
- 10:08go ahead with that. I really don't. I don't want
- 10:12them to. I think the... Yeah. I think as long
- 10:19as it's not a big swing. Like, if each judge
- 10:23kind of gives one 10 -8 round that isn't a knockdown,
- 10:28it's not going to change a whole bunch. But if
- 10:31people start doing it every third round, you
- 10:33know what I mean? Yeah, I got you. Because even
- 10:36one 10 -8 round would have completely changed
- 10:39the outcome of Roach versus Pitbull. Yeah. Or
- 10:47like... Well, I still don't know why the judges
- 10:50didn't 10 -8 the fucking I'm taking a knee round
- 10:52with Tang. But if this came in, they would feel
- 10:56they had that power. Right. Speaking of that
- 11:02take a knee, let me see here. According to Jack
- 11:06Reese, in the Davis Roach fight, we couldn't
- 11:10find it written anywhere that when you take a
- 11:12knee voluntarily, it's a knockdown. It's always
- 11:15been the policy most everybody always used, but
- 11:19now we have it in writing. I mean, it's a fucking
- 11:2610 -8. Yeah, I guess you have to put it in writing
- 11:32and it won't happen again, but everybody knows
- 11:36that. There's no reason they couldn't have done
- 11:39that. Yeah, there's... Steve Willis, I've always
- 11:44felt he was a good referee, but that was definitely
- 11:47a miss. He fucked up there. That was a miss.
- 11:49Yeah. I did see somebody talking about this online,
- 11:55and they kind of went through, and Willis never
- 11:59had very many weird fights. This is kind of the
- 12:03first time he had to make a strange decision.
- 12:06That makes sense. But I mean, it's in writing
- 12:15now, I guess. And last thing. To summarize the
- 12:25point, Jack Reese points out that whenever a
- 12:31fight is no longer competitive, the referee needs
- 12:34to step in. A specific case that he cites is...
- 12:40father -son trainer -fighter combos, where a
- 12:44father trainer is not going to throw the towel
- 12:47in on his boy, and a fighting son is not going
- 12:51to quit in front of his father. Yeah. It feels
- 12:57weird that he decided to point out the father
- 12:59-son thing. It felt out of place to me. I don't
- 13:03know. Like, there's lots of other... other fights
- 13:08where it's not father son yeah that you need
- 13:11to stop but I mean the most famous one for this
- 13:15is Gabe Rosado right wasn't it Gabe Rosado and
- 13:18Triple G yep Gabe's dad was the the head corner
- 13:23but he refused to throw in the towel and it was
- 13:26like the cut man or someone yeah I think man
- 13:29who threw it in yeah and he was yelling at the
- 13:32dad like you're gonna kill your fucking son get
- 13:35him out of there There's some crazy audio from
- 13:39the corner that somebody caught and the cut man
- 13:41was literally like begging him to throw in the
- 13:44towel and he ripped it away from him. It's crazy.
- 13:48I mean, I have no problem with this in theory,
- 13:53but if they overcorrect, you're going to rob
- 13:56guys of a chance to come back. Yeah, what I took
- 14:00away from this is that there's going to be a
- 14:03lot more like... Brit stoppages. That's exactly
- 14:07what I took away from it. Which... I... I always
- 14:13love the big, like, they're getting their ass
- 14:16kicked and they somehow come back fight. And
- 14:19if they completely get rid of those, it's gonna
- 14:21make me so fucking sad. But the fighter's health
- 14:24is the most important thing. I know I meme the
- 14:27hell out of, like, going out on your shield and
- 14:30stuff, but I don't actually believe that. So
- 14:33if they save a couple people, and we'll never
- 14:36know because you never know, but it's good. But
- 14:41I really hope we don't get too many, like, I
- 14:45don't know, like the Parker stoppage last year
- 14:48was bullshit. That came to mind for me too. Like,
- 14:52I don't want stoppages like that. But, I don't
- 14:59know. We'll have to see how they actually implement
- 15:01it. I do feel like this isn't just flowery words,
- 15:05like they have specific things that they're actually
- 15:08going to come through with. I don't know about
- 15:14the 10 -8 rounds. It will depend how liberal
- 15:16people get with the 10 -8 rounds, I think. And
- 15:19I kind of agree with Josh. You need some more
- 15:22guidance on that. And maybe they have that. I
- 15:24mean, this is just an article about a conference.
- 15:32Yeah. Overall, I'm glad as well that they see
- 15:37specific problems and they are roadmapping solutions
- 15:43to those problems. Yeah. So it's good to see
- 15:48that there's positive changes happening for the
- 15:51sport. Yeah. The only one I'm... really a little
- 15:56worried about is they want to stop the fights
- 15:59earlier and the specific don't confuse activity
- 16:02with effectiveness that just sounds like they're
- 16:05gonna possibly be stopping fights where guys
- 16:08are still throwing and landing punches and that
- 16:12feels like you could make it pretty corrupt pretty
- 16:16fast yeah well the only thing we can hope for
- 16:24is more clarification on what the what's the
- 16:29criteria for scoring a 10 -8 round or what's
- 16:32the criteria for pulling a fighter quicker yeah
- 16:37yeah I guess it's just execution we gotta wait
- 16:41and see how it's executed all these things could
- 16:43be good or they could all be used to quote unquote
- 16:47rig fights it's boxing everything's like that
- 16:53It's unfortunate, but that's our reality. All
- 16:58right. Canelo is back in training, set to return
- 17:02in September. He's continuing his Riyadh season
- 17:06contract, and the card is going to be Mexico
- 17:09versus the world. At least that's the idea that
- 17:11Turkey has. Sounds cool. I wonder if they're
- 17:19going to do the super kind of... Racist isn't
- 17:22the right word. Stereotypical posters like they
- 17:24did for Night of the Samurai. Oh, yeah, they
- 17:27had the samurai armor and stuff. Yeah, but I
- 17:30kind of feel that if you AI Mexican stuff like
- 17:34that, it's going to come off way worse. Panchos.
- 17:37Specifically samurai, yeah. Sombreros. The Aztec
- 17:42warrior people. I'm interested to see the visuals.
- 17:48I think it might get a little... suspect. If
- 17:53they just use AI, then yeah, it's gonna be shitty,
- 17:56but it can be tasteful. That's what they're gonna
- 17:58do. Unfortunately. They're just gonna AI it.
- 18:01Boo. They got away with it with Japan because
- 18:04they stuck to samurai, but I don't feel like
- 18:08Mexico has that same, like, this is the thing
- 18:10we can use. What? Yeah, we'll have to wait and
- 18:17see. But Canelo has this and one more fight on
- 18:21his Riyadh season little deal. And I don't know.
- 18:26That might be it for him. It's kind of time,
- 18:30I think. We're getting there. I think that I
- 18:33saw in 2025, Canelo made like $165 million. So
- 18:39why is he dragging this out? Just finished the
- 18:42deal and time to call it quits, man. Go hang
- 18:46out with your kids. Ride your horses. Go train.
- 18:49Help be a trainer at Eddie's fucking gym. Go
- 18:57sell Modellos or something. I'm sure Canelo can
- 19:00get advertising deals too. Oh, hell yeah. He's
- 19:03going to get deals for life. But moving on. Tim
- 19:11Zhu, his comeback after that not so great. It
- 19:17was a win, but it was not quite as awesome. Not
- 19:20as much of a phoenix rising from the ashes as
- 19:22we might have hoped. But his next fight, being
- 19:28explored with Errol Spence. I mean, is that just
- 19:33Battle of the Damaged? Cash out Errol Spence.
- 19:38If you still can salvage a little bit of his
- 19:42shine, then... Yeah. This is the time to do it.
- 19:47I mean, they're both names, but they're both
- 19:49names that have lost the shine. You're right.
- 19:53Yeah. It might be competitive now. Spence hasn't
- 19:58been in a ring for a long time. It's like two
- 20:02years. Two years and change. And he didn't look
- 20:06very good the last time he was out. Oh, hell
- 20:08no. He got beat the hell up by Bud. Was that
- 20:12the last fight? He hasn't had one since? Not
- 20:14that I recall. Okay, yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 20:19This might actually be competitive, and I never
- 20:21thought I would say Tim Zhu could be competitive
- 20:23with Errol Spence, but... Given the stage that
- 20:27they're at now, I think Tim Zhu beats him. Yeah,
- 20:32I don't know. They're both just not who they
- 20:36used to be. Unfortunate, but yep, that's true.
- 20:43Um, Benavidez vs. Zurdo is set for May 2nd. So
- 20:49that's fun. That is also the Inoue Nakatani day.
- 20:56It is. So I'll probably miss this one. Because
- 20:58I am going to get a ticket. No matter what the
- 21:04cost? Honestly, the cost wouldn't be the thing.
- 21:07If I don't get the lottery, it's trying to get
- 21:10one on resale. Because I have no idea how you
- 21:13find scalpers in Japan. And if I ask the wrong
- 21:17person, I could be deported. Jesus. If you break
- 21:24any laws, you can be deported. They don't always.
- 21:30You can. I'm not saying I would 100 % be, but
- 21:33I don't want to risk it. Right, so like jaywalking.
- 21:36Probably not going to get deported for that.
- 21:39Yeah, I risk jaywalking. But we'll see how that
- 21:46card builds up. This is just the first announcement.
- 21:51I'm kind of excited for that fight. I think it's
- 21:54going to be good. Yeah, there was a lot of jokes
- 21:56in Discord about this, like, Benavidez not having
- 22:01to cut. There's a picture of him at a food truck,
- 22:04and he had, like, three bags fucking full of
- 22:07stuff. And everyone's like, ah, look at it. Fat
- 22:11boy eating a lot of food. Well, he owns the truck,
- 22:15so... Of course he's advertising for the truck.
- 22:20Like, what the hell do you expect? I mean, Zerto
- 22:24doesn't cut either, so... Fabio Wardley wants
- 22:31to make his first defense, and he wants to fight
- 22:34Derek Chisora. I kind of want it to happen because
- 22:43I kind of think Chizora could chin him. If Chizora
- 22:48can eat a Wardley right hand, Chizora's got a
- 22:52chance. Yeah, that's the gamble though. I don't
- 22:58want to see Chizora get sparked, but I wouldn't
- 23:02write him off completely. Wardley's not that
- 23:03good. He's not. We know he's not. I've bet against
- 23:11Fabio Wardley too many times at this point and
- 23:15lost for me to not... I have some hesitation
- 23:20in picking Chizora. It's all wrong. I'm not saying
- 23:25it's... It's all wrong for Chizora. I'm not saying
- 23:27it's a for sure thing. I'm just saying. I would
- 23:32love it. But I would also hate it because then
- 23:35Chizora is going to get more fights. Oh, I guess
- 23:38he's going to have a title. Oh, no. Oh, please.
- 23:43But Derek Chisora, world champion in 2026. I
- 23:48mean, that's got a ring to it. He would put himself
- 23:54in the top five of oldest champions. He'd get
- 24:01to fight Usyk again. Usyk did say that was his
- 24:06hardest fight. At heavyweight. It was. I don't
- 24:13know man. I'm always so. Porn. When Barry Chisora
- 24:18comes up. Because I love him. But he's so old.
- 24:23Yeah. Like. Daniel Dubois knocking on your door.
- 24:28That's a legit fight. Between Wardley and Dubois.
- 24:31That's a good one to make. And you pick Chisora
- 24:34as your first defense. A little bit of quackery
- 24:38going on here. Yeah. Eh. Chris Eubank will be
- 24:49returning in 2026 at 168. I don't know if this
- 24:57is... I mean, I guess the weight cuts were probably
- 25:01a big part of the problem, but... Those pictures
- 25:05under the hospital after that last fight looked
- 25:07really rough. I don't know. I kind of feel like
- 25:09Chris Eubank Jr. should just hang him up. I was
- 25:13of the same mind. Eubank himself said that it
- 25:18was the weight cutting for the two Ben fights
- 25:21that really had him looking like a shell of himself,
- 25:26to use his own words. And coming at 168, the
- 25:32cuts won't be that bad. There are some good fights.
- 25:35Obviously, 168 is pretty stacked at the moment.
- 25:39The belts have scattered. Not that I think Eubank
- 25:44deserves a belt, but he might get a shot at one.
- 25:47Right. He's got the name value to get himself
- 25:49into a title fight. If he's healthy enough, I
- 25:57can get behind it. But I don't know, man. He
- 26:01looked rough. Oh, man. Boxer. Speaking of Eubank,
- 26:09his promoter, Boxer, is setting up a pay -per
- 26:13-view model. I know this is like fucking blockbuster
- 26:16news for everybody, but because they're on BBC,
- 26:20BBC is a not -for -profit television service,
- 26:27so they kind of can't do pay -per -views or they
- 26:30can't extract revenue from their broadcast. So,
- 26:37yeah, they're doing pay -per -views. Of who?
- 26:43Eubank, I guess. I just, well, British people
- 26:50love their boxing. Maybe they'll make money and
- 26:52people will pay for it, but in fucking America,
- 26:55nobody's paying for a boxer card. If it's under
- 27:00$30, I might pick it up. Depending on who's on
- 27:06it. Yeah, that's the thing. I guess if they price
- 27:10them cheap enough. I mean, the cost of a movie
- 27:14for a boxing card is reasonable. What's movie
- 27:19tickets now? Like 20 bucks? Yeah. Quite a bit.
- 27:26Which is fucking madness. $20 for three hours
- 27:29at the theater. Oh, three hours if you're fucking
- 27:33lucky. Well, I always get there a little early
- 27:38and you watch the trailers. Plus, well, I mean,
- 27:43you don't necessarily have to, but like popcorn
- 27:46and drinks and stuff, not cheap. Yeah, no, I
- 27:51don't do that. I'm too broke for that shit. Oh,
- 27:57speaking of being broke, Golden Boy's DAZN deal
- 28:00expired at the end of 2025. The card that's currently
- 28:05on is apparently a one -off broadcast deal. Yeah,
- 28:11this might be the last DAZN card ever for Goldenboy.
- 28:15Yep. Man, I... I'm a little worried about all
- 28:23these people losing their broadcasters. We need
- 28:27a decent home for boxing. If everybody starts...
- 28:32putting everything on pay -per -view which they
- 28:34kind of already have but like if everybody is
- 28:40pay -per -view and even if they price it super
- 28:43cheap at like 10 20 bucks that's a lot of money
- 28:47throughout the year for not great fights some
- 28:51of it i would like for golden boy to renew with
- 28:58the zone I would like for Top Rank to go to DAZN.
- 29:02I would like for everyone. I would like everybody.
- 29:05Yeah. You could take DAZN, you could take that
- 29:09out of the sentence and put in Amazon Prime.
- 29:12Anything. I don't care. Just give me a one -stop
- 29:16shop. I would gladly pay like 50 bucks a month
- 29:21for that. And I would cancel a bunch of other
- 29:24subscriptions. If I got all the boxing. Yep.
- 29:29Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I've said it before, but
- 29:34in Japan, the zone for boxing, if you only get
- 29:37the combat sport one, is quite cheap. So, like,
- 29:42I would pay more than I'm paying now for the
- 29:44boxing on the zone if Golden Boy renews. But
- 29:49right now, it's like $7 American or something
- 29:53per month. Woof. But literally all I get is boxing
- 29:58and their weird kickboxing. There's no other
- 30:01sports that I can watch on DAZN. Sometimes there's
- 30:05a horse race, but half the horse races are blocked
- 30:07too. But it's the combat sports package because
- 30:11that's all I fucking watch on there anyways.
- 30:14Yeah. Same. Like I got Paramount Plus just because
- 30:19ultimate effing casuals got to keep up with UFC.
- 30:23Yeah. Yeah. And. Mimi. It's over there. True.
- 30:28She is. Um... Mikayla Mayer in her most recent
- 30:36fight won a 154 pound title. She vacates it to
- 30:41remain at 147 aiming to fight Lauren Price for
- 30:45Undisputed. I like this fight. Yeah, me too.
- 30:52Like, this is a women's fight that I would actually
- 30:55be excited for. And I kind of want Lauren Price
- 30:58to win it. I'm not a Michaela Mayer fan. I'm
- 31:01not too fond of her style either. But I do like
- 31:08that the women move so much to make these fights
- 31:13happen. Like, the men don't do that because they
- 31:18don't have to. The little guys, kind of. They
- 31:24move up, but they hardly ever go back down. Yeah,
- 31:26you're right. No, this is a good fight, and I'm
- 31:33glad Mayer vacated her title to shoot for glory.
- 31:38I think it'll be good. Richardson Hitchens vs.
- 31:45Oscar Duarte. Set for February 21st. I think
- 31:49that's... The Barrios -Ryan card? I think so.
- 31:56I think that's the same date. Duarte's? Duarte's
- 32:03a weird one for Hitchens to pick, I think. I
- 32:06don't know if they're underestimating him, but
- 32:09I don't think that's a great style matchup for
- 32:11Richardson -Hitchens. It'll be tough. Duarte's
- 32:15a big -time pressure fighter, so that'll be tough
- 32:19for Hitchens to... handle. I also am not a huge
- 32:25fan of Hitchens, so if Duarte can upset him,
- 32:27I'll be happy. Same. I don't care for Hitchens
- 32:31either. So, there was a post by, I don't remember
- 32:39who it was by, but it was a rumor mill type of
- 32:43outlet. Usyk Wilder, July 11th in San Francisco.
- 32:51I'm not sure where... That all seems really random.
- 32:54Right. Like, I had heard end of April in LA.
- 33:00That actually makes sense. But July 11th in San
- 33:05Francisco, kind of random. July's kind of a long
- 33:10way away. Like, I'd like to see Usyk fight before
- 33:14that. Yeah, yeah. But I also, I don't, I don't
- 33:21care about this fight. I understand why he's
- 33:24doing it, but I don't care. I'll watch it, but
- 33:28I'm not excited. This is not, this is not a Nusik
- 33:31fight I'm going to get up for. Navarrete versus
- 33:39Nunez. Three undercard fights. Tamir Smalls versus
- 33:44Abel Ramos. Arturo Cardenas versus Jordan Martinez
- 33:48and Emiliano Vargas versus Agustin Quintana.
- 33:52So that's a good time. Yeah. There were a few
- 34:00other guys on the undercard as well, but they
- 34:03had TBAs. Is that a May card? When is this card?
- 34:10February. End of February. Nice. Okay. 28th.
- 34:17Yeah, not a lot of time to get opponents for
- 34:20the other three guys that are on the bill. Yeah,
- 34:25no, that's six weeks away. Yeah, pretty much.
- 34:30A little less. Yeah. That's it for the news,
- 34:36though. Oh, fuck. Notes. Just some shit to be

- 35:10All right, be right back. Dandruff doesn't just
- 35:13affect your hair, it chips away at your confidence.

- 35:32Flakes works fast to control the flaking, calm

- 37:19All right, in the recaps. January 10th, Queensberry
- 37:27in Oberhausen, Germany. Javier Herrera, TKO8
- 37:33over Ricardo Nunez. That was for the interim
- 37:35WBC lightweight title. And in the main, Agit
- 37:40Kabayel stops Damian Neba in three. Stops, question
- 37:46mark. Not so sure. That was a bit of a British
- 37:50stoppage, as we were discussing. Yeah. Yeah,
- 37:56I mean, it seemed like it was kind of just...
- 37:59gonna eventually happen but i would have liked
- 38:02to see it happen it could have played out a little
- 38:06more but that was definitely a preview i i think
- 38:12that's a perfect preview of what uh the national
- 38:16combat sports summit was talking about yeah yeah
- 38:22which is why i'm a little not excited about it
- 38:26They're gonna stop him a little too soon. Like,
- 38:29Neva wasn't hurt, really. Not really. But, I
- 38:36do, I had been saying that I like this guy. I
- 38:39do think he's gonna be good, Damien Neva, but,
- 38:43I mean, Agit Caballel's just already there. He's
- 38:49more experienced and more tested. The crowd in
- 38:57Germany was really good, though. Oh, my goodness.
- 39:00They were going nuts. Yeah. I always like when
- 39:06they have these fights in countries you don't
- 39:09really think of as boxing countries and the crowd's
- 39:12lit. Because, like, Caballel can fight there
- 39:15again, get more world exposure. I don't know.
- 39:20I like to see it. It's not like I'm going to
- 39:22go to the fight no matter where it is. So it's
- 39:25fun to see other countries like losing their
- 39:27shit over their guy. Yeah, I agree completely.
- 39:32I think back when the World Boxing Super Series
- 39:35was going on and they were just starting out
- 39:38with their social media presence, I would kind
- 39:42of like, they would say, what cities would you
- 39:44like to see us in? And I was like, non -traditional
- 39:47cities, like not New York. Not Las Vegas, not
- 39:50Los Angeles. Yeah. Anywhere else would be really
- 39:55cool to see. Those people get to watch high -level
- 39:58boxing all the fucking time. Exactly. Yeah. Well,
- 40:06speaking of New York, fresh promotions at the
- 40:09Barclays Center. Oh, boy. Keith Colon stops Alberto
- 40:16Guevara in seven. Nestor Bravo, KO2 over Pedro
- 40:24Campa. Big knockout. That was a fun one. Javier
- 40:31Cintron versus Victor Sandoval. Cintron gets
- 40:36the stoppage in one. I don't normally track round
- 40:41of the year, but this one makes me want to keep
- 40:44track of it. Because that was really good. Yeah,
- 40:49I kind of missed this card. I only got highlights.
- 40:53It's all right. You didn't. My parting words.
- 40:59My parting words. I'll share why I missed this.
- 41:01It's pretty fun. Emmanuel Rodriguez, former Inouye
- 41:07victim. UD over Fernando Diaz. and emmanuel rodriguez
- 41:13is my favorite in a way ko i fucking love that
- 41:18body shot annihilation the look of pain on rodriguez's
- 41:22face hilarious uh dalton smith dethrones subreal
- 41:29matthias in five to claim the wbc 140 title this
- 41:36was a fucking war leo this was a good fight yeah
- 41:40i was um Kind of surprised at how rough and tumble
- 41:45Dalton Smith was. I was not expecting him to,
- 41:48like, stand and trade with Subaru Matias. Yeah,
- 41:51me neither. And I thought it was a stupid idea
- 41:53when it started. I was wrong. Yeah. It worked.
- 41:58Yeah. The last vestiges of Subaru Matias' chin
- 42:03were removed that evening. Yeah. I... dalton
- 42:10smith's better than i thought he was yeah i think
- 42:13it's kind of the too long didn't read of this
- 42:17whole fight dalton smith is better than i thought
- 42:20he was he's still the weakest champion though
- 42:25right of the well is he let me what weight class
- 42:30is that 140 Bitch. Richardson, Hitchens, Gary,
- 42:48Antoine Russell, and Teofimo Lopez. Yeah. I'd
- 42:54say Dalton Smith is probably the weakest. Although
- 42:58he could probably beat Richardson, Hitchens.
- 43:01Yeah, I would. Any opportunity that I can get
- 43:04to shit on... Hitchens. Richardson's and Hitchens.
- 43:07I'm going to take it. I don't think he can beat
- 43:11Gary Antoine Rushlow. No. No. Definitely not.
- 43:16And then Teofimo's Teofimo. Anyone can beat him,
- 43:19but he can also beat anybody. Flip a coin. What
- 43:24version are you going to get? Yeah. But, I mean,
- 43:28Teo's fighting Shakur, right? That's finalized?
- 43:31Yeah, it's on the 31st. But I guess his belt
- 43:36won't be on the line, eh? How's that work? I'm
- 43:39pretty sure it is. Shakur's moving up. Okay.
- 43:46Yeah, I don't... I kind of think Shakur's going
- 43:48to beat Teofimo. Yeah, I'm feeling the same way.
- 43:54I mean, I'm going to cheer for Teo, but... But,
- 44:00I mean, I think Dalton Smith fits right in with
- 44:02those other champions. I don't think he is the
- 44:05weakest, but he's definitely not the strongest.
- 44:10I believe he is set to fight Pueyo. Next. They're
- 44:18not going to have him fight Pitbull? He's the
- 44:22interim champion. Interim champion is apparently
- 44:25not a contender position. Really stupid. What?
- 44:31Okay. I see Sander Martin has moved up the list
- 44:38on most of these. I kind of want him to get a
- 44:42title shot. I still say he beat Teal. Yeah, I
- 44:46agree. Yeah, that's Dalton Smith. Pueo is likely
- 44:56next. And looking down the list, it's... It's
- 45:04looking pretty manageable for Smith. Yeah. He
- 45:11can hold that belt for a while if he doesn't
- 45:14try and unify. The only thing is, Pueo is a serious
- 45:21problem, I think. He's like the complete opposite
- 45:25of Subaru Matias. Uses his range. It's a textbook
- 45:31outfighter, so... that might be a tough barrier
- 45:37to breach. Yeah, I have to admit, I know I've
- 45:42watched Dalton Smith before, but I haven't paid
- 45:44a whole bunch of attention. Yeah. I don't know
- 45:48what his weaknesses really are, and I didn't
- 45:51think he could stand and bang like that, so clearly
- 45:54I don't know who Dalton Smith is. Well, he's
- 45:59got a title now, so we're definitely going to
- 46:01find out more anyway. Oh, shit. All right, let's
- 46:07move to upcoming Friday, January 23rd. Zufa makes
- 46:15its premiere on Paramount+. It is no longer called
- 46:20the UFC Apex. It is the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
- 46:27Very cool. Yeah, I almost said something very
- 46:321990s. That is the gayest fucking name I've ever
- 46:38heard. Yes, it's really stupid. As of right now,
- 46:47still don't know who's going to be on this card.
- 46:50The only thing we know is the headline. Callum
- 46:52Walsh versus Carlos Ocambo. Yeah, I don't particularly
- 46:58care about this. It seems like Zufa is... How
- 47:07do I put it? They're not trying to come in with
- 47:10a bang. They're building from the bottom, which
- 47:14will probably work better. They're not going
- 47:15to blow a bunch of money on Callum Walsh and
- 47:18Carlos Ocampo. And the other fights that they
- 47:23have slotted for headlines are also not that
- 47:27good. They're mid -tier. The biggest thing is,
- 47:35if they don't let them do walkouts and have their,
- 47:38like, costumes and custom shorts and shit, I
- 47:42really hope this bombs. Like, if they're gonna
- 47:47try and UFC my fucking boxing, I'm gonna be pissed.
- 47:50UFC is the most boring promotion out there. I
- 47:54don't like MMA anyways, but I'm not even talking
- 47:57about the fights. Just everything around it.
- 48:00It is fucking boring. They barely even let them
- 48:03have walkout music. Especially at the Apex, where
- 48:07there's... There's not a... There's like, I don't
- 48:10know, like 20 feet from the doorway to the ring.
- 48:17Yeah, like, it's just... They better at least
- 48:21let them have their custom outfits. Yeah. Like,
- 48:25if they start giving boxers uniforms, I am honest
- 48:30to God boycotting. Because that is lame. And
- 48:33not that that's the most important part, but,
- 48:36like, that's part of the fun of boxing. Yeah,
- 48:41I agree. I also just don't give a shit about
- 48:45Callum Walsh. Like, he's whatever. The only fighter
- 48:50I cared about on 360 Promotions was Mimi. So,
- 48:54don't really care about Callum Walsh. Yeah, but
- 48:59imagine if they don't let Mimi have her outfits.
- 49:02What the fuck is the point? Yeah, there's no
- 49:04point. Wait. Saturday, January 24th at the Fontainebleau
- 49:14in Las Vegas. Oh, shit. Let's start from the
- 49:20bottom. Amari Jones versus Jerome Baxter. That's
- 49:26a fun one. Amari Jones, I believe, was an Olympian.
- 49:31I don't know who Jerome Baxter is, but he seems
- 49:35like he got a late start. Israel Madrimov versus
- 49:41Luis Salazar. Who's Luis Salazar? Should I know?
- 49:48I have no idea who he is. I do not know this
- 49:52man. He's Dominican. Khalil Coe vs. Jesse Hart.
- 50:02That should be fun while it lasts. And headlining
- 50:12Ray Morotaya vs. Andy Cruz for the IBF 135 title.
- 50:19I think this one should be fun. Andy Cruz is
- 50:21fun. Yes. I'm riding with Ray Murataya. He's
- 50:27a Robert Garcia guy. I'm not against Murataya.
- 50:35I just mean it should be a fun clash of styles.
- 50:40They're both pretty aggressive, but in different
- 50:43ways. Yes. Andy Cruz has been buzzed before.
- 50:52I think Ray can tag him. I wouldn't be surprised
- 50:58by either of these guys winning. I think this
- 51:00is kind of a pick -em fight. In my mind, I have
- 51:05ways that both of them can win. Yeah, of the
- 51:11two, I'm honestly expecting Andy Cruz to more
- 51:14likely pull it out. Yeah, I would not be too
- 51:19shocked if Ray Moritaya was able to get it. This
- 51:24is one I think that's actually worth tuning into
- 51:26live. It won't be the same if you know the outcome.
- 51:31Yeah. Oh, man. Also on the 24th. Well, it was
- 51:40supposed to be on the 24th. Moses Itauma versus
- 51:43Jermaine Franklin. The entire card has been postponed.
- 51:48I believe Moses Itauma has an injury. Yeah, that
- 51:55kind of sucks. I guess they couldn't just run
- 51:59it without the headline. Although I kind of feel
- 52:03like they could have. There's enough on the undercard.
- 52:08Frank Warren decided not to. Didn't really say
- 52:14why. He just said he wanted to keep the entire
- 52:17card intact. And he's floating his fighters financially
- 52:23until the new show date. All right. Well, as
- 52:29long as the fighters are taken care of. Yeah.
- 52:34Have they proposed a new date? It's not very
- 52:38long, is it? I don't know. I thought they said
- 52:43about like a month to six weeks or something.
- 52:48Yeah. Six weeks is what I'm remembering as well.
- 52:52Okay. So there's not many fights scheduled in
- 52:58March yet that I've seen. So that's might be
- 53:01nice filler if it's got to be postponed. Yeah.
- 53:08So we'll have to make do with match room. Yay.
- 53:15But Ray Mortaya is a top -ranked guy, so the,
- 53:19um, as someone put it in Discord, the top -ranked
- 53:24fighters are being pimped out to other promotions
- 53:28to get them fights. At least they're getting
- 53:31them fights, I guess. Yeah. Man, top -ranked
- 53:38is in the fucking bin. It makes me sad. They've
- 53:43got some of the best guys. I don't understand
- 53:46why they can't get a deal. The 31st is a top
- 53:54-ranked promoted card, and it doesn't have a
- 53:57broadcaster. We're expecting it to be on Tubi,
- 54:00I think. The fuck is Tubi? The last Michaela
- 54:06Mayer fight was on Tubi. It's a free streaming
- 54:10platform. All right. I guess if it's free, that's
- 54:15good. They had fucking In A Way on Facebook.
- 54:23Like, seriously. YouTube is right there. You
- 54:30don't have to use Facebook Live. So stupid. And
- 54:36you sure as fuck don't have to use Tubi. Ugh.
- 54:41I legitimately don't even know what 2B is. You're
- 54:44not missing out on a whole bunch. Yeah, but that's
- 54:51it. That's all we got on the horizon for this
- 54:56week. Not great. It is a little light. The Atalma
- 55:01card being cut definitely kind of sunk the weekend.
- 55:08Yeah. The matchroom cards, it's okay. Not the
- 55:14best. And the Zufa card, who fucking cares? There's
- 55:21not going to be anybody worth mentioning on the
- 55:24undercard. I'm very almost certain there's not
- 55:28going to be anybody really worth mentioning.
- 55:30Yeah, me too. Alright. Well. Let me do this.
- 55:40What if your best thinking day wasn't a lucky
- 55:42accident? What if you could access that clarity,
- 55:45that sharp focus, that feeling of being completely
- 55:48on whenever you need it? We live in a world of

- 58:34words. Okay. This week, my parting words are
- 58:37a story. So last weekend, I met up with someone
- 58:41from a different Discord server that I'm in.
- 58:44And we went out in Tokyo. And the night started
- 58:49out kind of shit. The first couple bars we went
- 58:51to weren't great, whatever. And then we ended
- 58:54up going to, it's called Harlem. We get inside
- 58:59and the bottom floor, there's two floors, was
- 59:03reggae music. So they sing with a Jamaican accent
- 59:06in Japanese. It always screws with my head. But
- 59:11anyways, that's not the point of this story.
- 59:13We're walking around and the guy taps me and
- 59:17he goes, that's Shinotsuka. And I was like, what?
- 59:20And he goes, from Ryzen, I saw him win a title
- 59:24on New Year's Eve. Oh, shit. And I was like,
- 59:27no shit. And I was like, I don't watch that much
- 59:30Ryzen. I was like, like, I actually don't know
- 59:32who this guy is. So he Googled him for me. And
- 59:35yeah, he used to be a kickboxing champ. He was
- 59:38a K -1 champ and went into Ryzen. And the dude's
- 59:43just chilling in the club. Like he had a VIP
- 59:46section, but he spent no time in it. Like, he
- 59:49was just out. And I was like, well, go ask him
- 59:51for an autograph. He's like, I don't have anything
- 59:53to write on. I was like, ask him for a picture.
- 59:55And he goes, nah. Come on. Like, that'd be weird.
- 59:58And I was like, fuck it, I'll ask him for a picture.
- 1:00:00So I went up and, like, pretended I was more
- 1:00:05of a fan than I am. I was like, we're big fans.
- 1:00:08Could we get pictures with you? He took a picture
- 1:00:10with my friend, but not me, which kind of sucked.
- 1:00:15But I got to shake his hand, but I noticed he
- 1:00:17was wearing a necklace with a screen on it, like
- 1:00:20a little bigger than an Apple Watch screen. And
- 1:00:23it was just his highlight reel. I don't know
- 1:00:31if that's the coolest thing I've ever seen or
- 1:00:34the fucking lamest thing I've ever seen. I still
- 1:00:37can't decide. It is simultaneous. It's simultaneous.
- 1:00:40Yeah. I got to shake his hand. He was super nice,
- 1:00:47except for walking away without taking a picture
- 1:00:49with me. He was up on stage all night. He was
- 1:00:53buying shots, like just trays of shots and handing
- 1:00:55them out. Him and his friends were walking around
- 1:00:58with a bottle of Henny, just straight drinking
- 1:01:01out of the bottle. But they didn't take the jigger
- 1:01:04off. That's weird. yes they were like jigging
- 1:01:10shots into their mouth and i'm like guys you
- 1:01:12know you can get more if you take that little
- 1:01:15fucking thing out yeah but yeah super fun night
- 1:01:20i kind of feel like it was his victory party
- 1:01:24um at the end of the night they explained who
- 1:01:28he was like late late like 4 a .m they're like
- 1:01:32this is who this guy is and why he's been on
- 1:01:34stage all night he's the national champion everyone
- 1:01:37cheer celebrate our our winner yeah but yeah
- 1:01:44so i accidentally partied with uh one of the
- 1:01:47ryzen champs last weekend very nice that's why
- 1:01:51you missed the fresh promotions yeah yeah that
- 1:01:56i think it was worth it i would have taken your
- 1:01:58experience over fresh promotions as well yeah
- 1:02:02yeah anyways i just wanted to tell my story because
- 1:02:06i think it's cool um do i have parting words
- 1:02:16hold on let me let me see if let me go to my
- 1:02:21repository see if anything jumps out at me um
- 1:02:25We'll do New Year's category. Be at war with
- 1:02:32your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and
- 1:02:34let every New Year find you a better man. It's
- 1:02:39Benjamin Franklin. Nice. I actually totally misunderstood
- 1:02:45that last sentence for a second. As in, like,
- 1:02:49find a better boyfriend. That could be what it
- 1:02:55means for you. It could be. Benjamin Franklin
- 1:02:59and being at war with your vices. Those two don't...
- 1:03:05Benjamin Franklin lost. Yeah, he lost his war.
- 1:03:11Oh, man. Notorious poonhound. He was a fucking
- 1:03:16glutton. A drunk. Yeah. Good stuff. That's why
- 1:03:24he's my hero. Alright, that's going to do it
- 1:03:29for this edition of Boxing Before Dark. We'll
- 1:03:32see you next time. Bye!
