- 0:00Mark chapter 5. They came to the other side of
- 0:03the sea, into the country of the garrisons.
- 0:06When he got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs
- 0:09with an unclean spirit met him, and he had his dwelling among
- 0:13the tombs. And no one was able to bind him
- 0:16anymore, even with a chain, because he had often been bound
- 0:20with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart
- 0:23by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong
- 0:27enough to subdue him. Constantly, night and day, he
- 0:30was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains and gashing
- 0:33himself with stones. Seeing Jesus from a distance, he
- 0:37ran up and bowed down before him.
- 0:39And shouting with a loud voice he said, What business do we
- 0:42have with each other? Jesus, Son of the Most High God,
- 0:46I implore you, by God, do not torment me.
- 0:49For he had been saying to him, Come out of the man, you unclean
- 0:52spirit, and he was asking him, What is your name?
- 0:56And he said to him, My name is legion, for we are many.
- 1:00And he began to implore him earnestly not to send them out
- 1:04of the country. Now there was a large herd of
- 1:06swine feeding nearby on the mountain.
- 1:09The demons implored him, saying, Send us into the swine so that
- 1:12we may enter them. Jesus gave them permission and
- 1:16coming out the unclean spirits entered the swine, and the herd
- 1:19rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about 2000 of them, and
- 1:24they were drowned in the sea. Their herdsmen ran away and
- 1:27reported it in the city and in the country, and the people came
- 1:30to see what it was that had happened.
- 1:32They came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon
- 1:35possessed sitting down clothed and in his right mind the very
- 1:39man who had had the legion, and they became frightened.
- 1:43Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to
- 1:46the demon possessed man and all about the swine, and they began
- 1:49to implore him to leave their region.
- 1:52As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon
- 1:54possessed was imploring him that he might accompany him.
- 1:57And he did not let him, but he said to him, Go home to your
- 2:00people and report to them what great things the Lord has done
- 2:03for you, and how he had mercy on you.
- 2:06And he went away and began to proclaim into capitalists what
- 2:09great things Jesus had done for him.
- 2:11And everyone was amazed when Jesus had crossed over again in
- 2:15the boat to the other side. A large crowd gathered around
- 2:18him, and so he stayed by the seashore.
- 2:21One of the synagogue officials named Gyrus came up and on
- 2:24seeing him, fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying,
- 2:28My little daughter is at the point of death, please come and
- 2:31lay your hands on her so that she will get well and live.
- 2:35And he went off with him, and a large crowd was following him
- 2:37and pressing in on him. A woman who had had a hemorrhage
- 2:41for 12 years and had endured much at the hands of many
- 2:44physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped
- 2:47at all, but rather had grown worse.
- 2:50After hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind him
- 2:53and touched his cloak, For she thought, If I just touch his
- 2:57garments, I will get well. Immediately the flow of her
- 3:00blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed
- 3:04of her affliction. Immediately Jesus, perceiving in
- 3:07himself that the power proceeding from him had gone
- 3:09forth, turned around in the crowd and said, Who touched my
- 3:13garments? And his disciples said to him,
- 3:16You see the crowd pressing in on you, and you say, Who touched
- 3:19me? And he looked around to see the
- 3:21woman who had done this. But the woman, fearing and
- 3:24trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell
- 3:26down before him and told him the whole truth.
- 3:29And he said to her daughter, Your faith has made you well.
- 3:33Go in peace and be healed of your affliction.
- 3:36While he was still speaking, they came from the House of the
- 3:38synagogue officials, saying, Your daughter has died.
- 3:41Why trouble the teacher any more?
- 3:43But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the
- 3:47synagogue official, Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.
- 3:51And he allowed no one to accompany him except Peter and
- 3:54James and John the brother of James.
- 3:56They came to the House of the synagogue official, and he saw a
- 3:59commotion and people loudly weeping and wailing and entering
- 4:03in. He said to them, Why make a
- 4:05commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is
- 4:09asleep. They began laughing at him, but
- 4:12putting them all out, he took along the child's father and
- 4:15mother and his own companions and entered the room where the
- 4:18child was. Taking the child by the hand, he
- 4:21said to her Talitha Kum, which translated means Little girl, I
- 4:25say to you, get up. Immediately the girl got up and
- 4:29began to walk, for she was 12 years old.
- 4:32And immediately they were completely astounded.
- 4:34And he gave them strict orders that no one should know about
- 4:37this. And he said that something
- 4:39should be given her to eat.
