- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfl Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome back to Connecting the Dots, the
- 0:17show that tracks how technology is shaping our
- 0:20world. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan. It's Wednesday,
- 0:22November 19th, 2025, and we have quite a few
- 0:26things to get through today from our SNRFL Tech
- 0:28article report. We sure do. But before we jump
- 0:31in, let's get a quick snapshot of what's going
- 0:33on out there. Here in Sacramento, we're looking
- 0:35at some patchy fog this morning, then partly
- 0:38sunny with a high of 58. And nationally the big
- 0:41story is weather we've got two major storms tracking
- 0:44through the southwest and south central us. So
- 0:47that's bringing a lot of rain to low elevation
- 0:49areas and you know some significant snow up high
- 0:53there are. Flood watches up for a lot of places
- 0:55yeah definitely something to keep an eye on now
- 0:57looking at the markets it was a bit of a close
- 1:00yesterday the Dow was down just a tiny bit closing
- 1:03at forty six thousand one hundred and seven point
- 1:05zero seven. But the S &P 500 was actually up.
- 1:08It gained about half a percent, closing at 6
- 1:10,661 .03. Right. And for anyone watching crypto,
- 1:14Bitcoin is still holding strong. Referencing
- 1:16that Monday figure, it was trading high at just
- 1:18under $93 ,000. Which is a weekly gain of nearly
- 1:211%. So things are looking pretty stable overall.
- 1:24They are. And as we get into our stories, you'll
- 1:26see this theme of stability or the search for
- 1:30it pop up again and again. It's all about control,
- 1:33really. Exactly. But first, we want to give a
- 1:35quick shout out to our sponsor, Old Glory. With
- 1:38the holidays right around the corner, if you
- 1:40need gifts for a music or sports fan, they have
- 1:43an amazing collection of merch. It's a really
- 1:46iconic store. And you can get 15 % off your entire
- 1:49purchase if you use the promo code SNARFL at
- 1:51checkout. That's right. Just head over to oldglory
- 1:54.com. OK, so let's get to our first story from
- 1:57the Morningstar. This one is, well, it's about
- 2:00TikTok. And it's such a fascinating move from
- 2:02them. They're rolling out a whole suite of new
- 2:05digital well -being features, and they're designed
- 2:09to fight the very thing TikTok perfected, which
- 2:12is doom scrolling. It's the ultimate irony, isn't
- 2:14it? The platform that lives on your attention
- 2:17is now trying to reward you for looking away.
- 2:20They're gamifying wellness. And some of these
- 2:22tools sound genuinely useful. They've got this
- 2:24new affirmation journal with over 120 positive
- 2:28prompts to help you, you know, set your intention
- 2:31for the day. And apparently in their early testing,
- 2:34that was the most popular tool. People really
- 2:36responded to it. I love that. They've also got
- 2:38a background sound generator for things like
- 2:40rain or ocean waves and even some breathing exercises
- 2:44built in. It all points to this larger philosophical
- 2:47shift. You know, a lot of the academic research
- 2:50says that just putting up hard restrictions,
- 2:53especially for teens. doesn't really work. It
- 2:56can even backfire. Right. Kids just find a workaround.
- 2:59Exactly. So instead of just locking you out,
- 3:01TikTok is trying to encourage self -regulation,
- 3:04and they're doing it with this new badge system.
- 3:06OK, so tell me about the badges. Because the
- 3:09idea of giving someone a reward for not using
- 3:12your product feels completely backwards from
- 3:15a business standpoint. It is, but it's also incredibly
- 3:18smart. The system is built around completing
- 3:20missions. Yeah, things like setting a daily screen
- 3:24time limit and actually sticking to it or using
- 3:27one of their new meditation tools. You complete
- 3:29the mission. You get a badge. I saw there was
- 3:31a sleep hours mission, too. I could definitely
- 3:33use that. That's a big one. It rewards you for
- 3:36staying off the app late at night. So TikTok
- 3:39is basically admitting, hey, we know our app
- 3:41can mess with your sleep and they're giving you
- 3:43a little dopamine hit for being disciplined.
- 3:45So it's less about guilt and more about positive
- 3:48reinforcement. Precisely. Now, you have to ask,
- 3:51is this about genuine concern or is it just really,
- 3:54really good PR? I was just thinking that. It's
- 3:57probably a bit of both, right? I think it has
- 3:59to be. They're under so much pressure from parents
- 4:01and regulators. This shows they're being proactive.
- 4:04Plus, a user who isn't burned out is a user who
- 4:07sticks around for the long term. That's a good
- 4:09point. And it's not just about time on the app,
- 4:12it's also about what you're seeing. They're adding
- 4:13a C -less AI option. Which is huge for content
- 4:17transparency. It gives you, the user, a dimmer
- 4:20switch for all the AI generated stuff flooding
- 4:22the feed. They're also using invisible watermarks
- 4:25to identify it. So you finally have some control
- 4:27over the algorithm, this whole trend. It feels
- 4:30like it's going to catch on. I bet we see Instagram
- 4:32and YouTube trying something similar very soon.
- 4:34Oh, absolutely. If this works for TikTok, rewarding
- 4:37self -control will become the new industry standard
- 4:40for digital wellness. All right. So from controlling
- 4:43our personal digital habits, let's shift to controlling
- 4:46digital sprawl in the workplace. Our second story
- 4:49is about Microsoft Agent 365. A365, yeah. And
- 4:53this is all about tackling a brand new problem
- 4:55called agent sprawl. Agents brawl. Okay, break
- 4:58that down for us. Well experts are predicting
- 5:00that by 2028 there will be something like 1 .3
- 5:03billion AI agents working for businesses around
- 5:06the world 1 .3 billion. I can't even write my
- 5:09head around that number That's an AI agent for
- 5:11every six or seven people on earth Exactly. And
- 5:14these aren't just simple chatbots. We're talking
- 5:15about AI agents that can handle entire complex
- 5:19workflows like organizing your email or even
- 5:22managing a company's entire procurement process.
- 5:25So one Microsoft exec said a company with a hundred
- 5:28thousand human employees could end up with half
- 5:30a million. or even a million AI agents. Right.
- 5:34And you just can't have a million unregulated
- 5:36bots running around with access to sensitive
- 5:38company data. It would be chaos. So A365 is basically
- 5:42the management and security layer for this new
- 5:45robot workforce. That's the perfect way to think
- 5:47of it. It's the HR and IT department for your
- 5:49new digital colleagues. It gives administrators
- 5:52a dashboard to see what all these agents are
- 5:54doing in real time. So how does it actually work?
- 5:56How do you onboard an AI bot? The key is giving
- 5:59each agent a unique identity. A365 forces IT
- 6:03admins to securely register every single agent
- 6:06through the Microsoft Entra Registry. Okay, let's
- 6:08pause there. For anyone who isn't in IT, what
- 6:11is Entra and why is that step so important? Entra
- 6:14is Microsoft's main identity and access management
- 6:17system. Think of it as the company's digital
- 6:20gatekeeper. By forcing agents to register, you're
- 6:23treating them like human employees who need a
- 6:25username and password. I see. So you can control
- 6:28what they have access to. Exactly. And more importantly,
- 6:31you can revoke their access instantly. If an
- 6:34agent gets compromised or just starts acting
- 6:36weirdly, an admin can shut it down immediately.
- 6:40That's critical because the threat isn't just
- 6:41from outside hackers. It could be an internal
- 6:44agent accidentally causing a huge data breach.
- 6:46Right, and A365 is built to be an open ecosystem.
- 6:49It doesn't just manage Microsoft's own AI agents,
- 6:52it also works with third -party agents from companies
- 6:55like Adobe, ServiceNow, and Workday. So Microsoft
- 6:59is positioning this as the essential operating
- 7:01system for any company that wants to scale up
- 7:03its AI workforce. It's mandatory, really. If
- 7:06you're running a business today, you have to
- 7:08be thinking about how you're going to manage
- 7:09an army of bots. Microsoft is just building the
- 7:12control plane for it. From the corporate control
- 7:14plane to the governmental one. Our final story
- 7:17takes us over to Europe, where the European Commission
- 7:20is making some, well, some pretty surprising
- 7:24changes to GDPR and the new AI Act. Yeah, the
- 7:28word being used is that Europe is blinking. After
- 7:31years of setting the global standard for tough
- 7:33tech regulation, they're now softening their
- 7:36stance a bit. Why now? It's all about competition.
- 7:39There's immense pressure from big tech in the
- 7:41U .S. government and a growing fear in Europe
- 7:44that their strict rules are holding back their
- 7:46own economic growth, especially in the A .I.
- 7:49race against the U .S. and China. OK, so let's
- 7:52talk about the biggest change, the one everyone
- 7:53will notice. Cookie pop -ups. Yes, finally, a
- 7:57collective sigh of relief from Internet users
- 7:59everywhere. They're getting rid of them. Not
- 8:01entirely, but they are simplifying them. The
- 8:04new proposal says that some non -risk cookies,
- 8:07like the ones that are essential for a site to
- 8:08work or for basic analytics, won't need that
- 8:11annoying pop -up anymore. That alone would be
- 8:13amazing. It gets better? They're also pushing
- 8:15for central browser controls, so you could set
- 8:17your privacy preferences once in your browser,
- 8:20and it would apply to every site you visit. No
- 8:22more clicking except a hundred times a day. That
- 8:25is a massive quality of life improvement. And
- 8:27it's not just about cookies, is it? They're also
- 8:30changing data rules for AI companies. Right.
- 8:32This is the other big piece. They're making it
- 8:34easier for companies to legally use personal
- 8:38data to train their AI models as long as it's
- 8:42anonymized or pseudonymized. Which is a huge
- 8:44point of contention. The argument was that strict
- 8:47GDPR rules were starving European AI startups
- 8:50of the data they needed to compete with, say
- 8:53Google or OpenAI. That's the core of it. They
- 8:56realize their own regulations might have been
- 8:58creating an unfair advantage for non -EU companies.
- 9:00And this shift also extends to the AI Act itself.
- 9:03The AI Act is that landmark law for regulating
- 9:06artificial intelligence. What's changing there?
- 9:08They're extending the grace period for the rules
- 9:10on high -risk AI systems. And high -risk means?
- 9:13That's what, exactly. Think of any AI that makes
- 9:16a major decision about your life, like for your
- 9:18health, a loan application, or even getting a
- 9:21job. The really serious stuff. So the rules for
- 9:24those systems are being delayed? Essentially,
- 9:26yes. The rules won't kick in until all the official
- 9:29standards and support tools are actually in place.
- 9:32It gives companies more time to prepare and more
- 9:34clarity on what's expected of them. It's a clear
- 9:36signal that they're trying to balance safety
- 9:38with economic speed. But I imagine not everyone
- 9:42is happy about this. Not at all. Civil rights
- 9:44and privacy freedoms are already calling it a
- 9:46major step backward. They're worried Europe is
- 9:49weakening the fundamental safeguards that made
- 9:51GDPR so important in the first place. It's that
- 9:54classic tug -of -war between innovation and regulation.
- 9:57But hey, if it means I see fewer cookie pop -ups,
- 9:59I think most people will see it as a win. Absolutely.
- 10:02And what happens in the EU almost always sets
- 10:04the standard for the rest of the web. Okay, before
- 10:07we recap, we also want to thank our other sponsor,
- 10:09Scony. Yeah. If you're a golfer, or know one,
- 10:12Scony makes premium golf shoes that are incredibly
- 10:15stylish and comfortable. They make a great gift,
- 10:17especially with the holidays coming up. And just
- 10:20like with Old Glory, you can use the promo code
- 10:22SNARFL to get 15 % off your purchase. The website
- 10:26is just sconyami .com. All right, so to connect
- 10:29all those dots for you one last time, let's bring
- 10:31it back to that theme of control. First, we saw
- 10:35TikTok trying to control user behavior, not with
- 10:38rules, but with rewards. It's making screen time
- 10:42a game you can actually win. Then we saw Microsoft
- 10:45building the control plane for the corporate
- 10:47bot army with Agent 365, giving companies the
- 10:50oversight they need to manage AI agent sprawl
- 10:53securely. And finally, we have the EU recalibrating
- 10:56its own regulatory controls, which could mean
- 10:59you'll finally see fewer cookie pop -ups, even
- 11:01as the AI industry gets a bit more breathing
- 11:03room. And that really leaves us with a fascinating
- 11:05thought. If our technology is now so advanced
- 11:08that the companies making it are rewarding us
- 11:10for not using it, and building complex systems
- 11:12just to manage it? What does that say about where
- 11:15we're headed? Is the next big growth market actually
- 11:18our time away from the screen? And how will tech
- 11:21try to monetize that? We're here to help at Snarful,
- 11:23so reach out on our website if you have any more
- 11:25questions. That's a wrap on today's top stories.
- 11:32Remember, tech doesn't have to be complicated,
- 11:35and we're here to help connect the dots. If you've
