- 2:15Speaker 1: be one of my favorite actors because, uh, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: when I cast him for a Learned series on the
- 2:20Speaker 1: then popular Sitcom System System, that's my man right there.
- 2:23Speaker 1: But you know him as a singer. Can't take that
- 2:26Speaker 1: away from he's sexy. He's a singer. Over the course
- 2:29Speaker 1: of his career, he SOLDO with twenty five million albums worldwide,
- 2:32Speaker 1: four top ten albums on the Billboard two hundred album chart,
- 2:35Speaker 1: sixteen Grammy nominations, nine BT Award nomination, American Music Awards,
- 2:40Speaker 1: MTV Video Award nominations, and n double a cp Immage
- 2:44Speaker 1: Award for Outstanding Mail Artists, and a Soul Trained Music
- 2:47Speaker 1: Award for Best R and B Soul Mail Artists. Platinum
- 2:50Speaker 1: and double platinum for That Any Time one of my
- 2:53Speaker 1: favorite singer in eighteen eighty seven, and triple platinum for
- 2:56Speaker 1: Back at One. Oh watch still remember that our plane?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Oh Wowtification, Now that's fat far to twenty twining because
- 3:02Speaker 1: I'm talking to him to day. The year that he's
- 3:05Speaker 1: dropping his twentieth album, The appropriate name Exodus, is released
- 3:09Speaker 1: via the so No Recording Group. Please work with the
- 3:11Speaker 1: money making cur I'm messing that up. Please work with
- 3:14Speaker 1: the money making conversations. My man, you'm laughing in the background,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Brian mcknights. Do you're messing me up? Brian? I was
- 3:20Speaker 1: supposed to not at all. You know, it's not often
- 3:26Speaker 1: that you hear all the things you've done in one mouthfull.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And you know, I think we know anach other long
- 3:34Speaker 1: and if I don't, I don't dwell on any of
- 3:35Speaker 1: those things. Thing. But it is nice to hear and
- 3:40Speaker 1: nice to hear from from someone that I respect so
- 3:42Speaker 1: much in this business. And uh, it's just it's fun.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. Thank you. We know something.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm like you. I'm a type of person where I
- 3:50Speaker 1: tend to like, um, move on. We're too quick. Sometimes
- 3:53Speaker 1: people are like, man, dude, be could people have to
- 3:55Speaker 1: remind me of who I am? Sometimes they have to
- 3:58Speaker 1: remind me what I've done Sometimes times and so and
- 4:00Speaker 1: so when I when I'm doing these intros for a lot,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and I consider your friend in the business as well
- 4:05Speaker 1: as somebody we sit down, we need lunch of breakfast
- 4:07Speaker 1: and dinner together because we've had some times together where
- 4:10Speaker 1: we've we said about just smile and talk and so
- 4:13Speaker 1: we I want to talk about that a little bit, Brian,
- 4:16Speaker 1: because that's why I brought it up, because sometimes we
- 4:19Speaker 1: moved too fast in life, and sometimes that could be
- 4:22Speaker 1: that could lead to you thinking you hadn't done anything.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You're thinking that, hey, I got I gotta do more,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and dude, your your body of work is there. I'm
- 4:31Speaker 1: not saying you think like that, but sometimes you have
- 4:34Speaker 1: to catch yourself, don't you. Yes and no. See, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: made the mistake of thinking that way after my very
- 4:42Speaker 1: first album, and after that first record sold two millions,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I thought in my twenty four year old mind that
- 4:49Speaker 1: success was a foregone conclusion, that I had made it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: At every record that I did after that was going
- 4:56Speaker 1: to be at least as good or better. So I
- 4:59Speaker 1: was really resting on one last cry and resting on
- 5:02Speaker 1: you know, love is and those hits that I had
- 5:04Speaker 1: from that first album. And when the second album wasn't
- 5:08Speaker 1: as successful from a monetary standpoint, it made me really
- 5:13Speaker 1: go back in and look at living my life, at
- 5:16Speaker 1: least professionally day to day not thinking about yesterday. It's
- 5:20Speaker 1: about today and tomorrow. So that I never felt that
- 5:24Speaker 1: that feeling of of of not of having an unrealistic expectation.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think always giving your best, always doing the best
- 5:35Speaker 1: I possibly can, and then letting the rest of the
- 5:37Speaker 1: take care of itself. So it's not that we forget
- 5:40Speaker 1: about the successes that we have, but you're always looking
- 5:43Speaker 1: for more success. And I think that maybe a good
- 5:45Speaker 1: thing or a bad thing, depending upon which side we are,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you happen to fall on. Well, so many success it
- 5:51Speaker 1: has come your way. And I'm gonna going back. We're
- 5:53Speaker 1: gonna have fun a little bit here back And sister,
- 5:55Speaker 1: sister man, you know, I'm a fan of Felicia Henderson,
- 5:58Speaker 1: one of the top directors and in the industry. She's
- 6:02Speaker 1: a tremendous fan of Brian McKnight. And uh, I just
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm just mad because I don't see you in no drama.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I don't see you started no movies and Felicia not.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We just knew we discovered the next black hot chocolate.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Come on that chocolate drop out there, come on the
- 6:17Speaker 1: acting game. Yeah. You know what's interesting if the interesting
- 6:20Speaker 1: part of that is that that would have been a
- 6:22Speaker 1: great time seeing what you guys saw on me that
- 6:26Speaker 1: I didn't even see. Um was something that I didn't
- 6:31Speaker 1: even think was real. I thought, because again you, the
- 6:35Speaker 1: two of you, Felicia and yourself, were the first one
- 6:37Speaker 1: that cast me in a role that wasn't me playing myself, right,
- 6:41Speaker 1: that was the first role I've ever I've ever had. Now,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I've done some others yip times, I've done some other
- 6:45Speaker 1: things where it was a guest appearance. I think one
- 6:48Speaker 1: of the things that derailed my acting career in some
- 6:51Speaker 1: way was the success at any Time and the success
- 6:54Speaker 1: of Back at Once, because it made it so that
- 6:56Speaker 1: I didn't have time to really do anything else. Um,
- 7:00Speaker 1: it was world tours. It was you know, it wasn't
- 7:02Speaker 1: the time that I could go He's like venue, He's
- 7:06Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, you know it was. It was tough
- 7:08Speaker 1: now looking back at that. That should have been the
- 7:11Speaker 1: thing that catapult to that side of things, But I
- 7:13Speaker 1: was all I always thought that, you know, and I'm
- 7:15Speaker 1: a musician, I'm a songwriter, That's what I do. First
- 7:18Speaker 1: I was I was kind of you know, not thinking
- 7:22Speaker 1: in the way things happen now where because of this
- 7:25Speaker 1: music career, it can catapult so many other things. The
- 7:28Speaker 1: right happens now, I really wasn't thinking that way in
- 7:31Speaker 1: the macro sense when I should have been. Well, you
- 7:33Speaker 1: know the thing about it, first of all, and it
- 7:35Speaker 1: wasn't just one episode. He did a series for us,
- 7:37Speaker 1: because yeah, you know we we we Brice. We just
- 7:40Speaker 1: sit down with Braco and and it really was funny
- 7:42Speaker 1: because we were so believed in you. And first of all,
- 7:46Speaker 1: just what you did musically wasn't even in the conversation
- 7:49Speaker 1: because you didn't sing on you just added and we
- 7:54Speaker 1: went to devil b said we want to do a
- 7:56Speaker 1: series of episodes with Brian McKnight. He said the singer
- 7:59Speaker 1: that yes, you know, because usually what happens is they
- 8:02Speaker 1: do stoadcasting and they bring a singer in one time
- 8:05Speaker 1: and use less singer or sing on that episode to
- 8:07Speaker 1: find some way to sing on that episode, and then
- 8:11Speaker 1: that's it. And but we really felt that your talents
- 8:14Speaker 1: and and and and thinking back and watching you and evolving,
- 8:19Speaker 1: and it's really as a time when you look at people,
- 8:23Speaker 1: they can see some things in you that you don't
- 8:26Speaker 1: see or didn't plan on sin And then when you
- 8:29Speaker 1: look back at the shar I should have I should
- 8:31Speaker 1: have followed that thought a little bit longer when when
- 8:34Speaker 1: you said that earlier. But all I want to know
- 8:37Speaker 1: is tell you this is that my man, you're incredibly talent.
- 8:39Speaker 1: That was some of the most fun moments for me
- 8:42Speaker 1: personally just to watch you as an artist, because you
- 8:46Speaker 1: are a superstar. You still are a superstar, don't don't
- 8:48Speaker 1: get it wrong in the music game. When we ask
- 8:51Speaker 1: you to humble yourself and play on a sitcom and
- 8:56Speaker 1: you said, this is not what I do with Sean,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yes you can't, Yes you do. So to just think
- 9:00Speaker 1: about that process that we asked you to, you know,
- 9:04Speaker 1: in some ways make you uncomfortable, right, Yeah, And I
- 9:08Speaker 1: think that's the part that you it's hard when you're
- 9:13Speaker 1: successful to go read for a part and then not
- 9:17Speaker 1: even get a call back. It's a it's a tough
- 9:19Speaker 1: thing to get your mind around that you aren't good
- 9:22Speaker 1: enough at that moment to to even get a consideration,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and that that was tough to deal with at a
- 9:28Speaker 1: time when I was having the biggest records of my
- 9:30Speaker 1: career post sister sister. So I think when you do
- 9:34Speaker 1: a couple of those and you have your agent having
- 9:36Speaker 1: you go read er things and you have an acting
- 9:38Speaker 1: coach and you think you're doing it well and then
- 9:40Speaker 1: you don't get those call backs. I think it becomes
- 9:42Speaker 1: discouraging if it's not something that was your dream to
- 9:45Speaker 1: be doing with um. So that was the tough thing
- 9:49Speaker 1: for me to make it into an acting career where
- 9:52Speaker 1: I've sen a few of my contemporaries where they may
- 9:54Speaker 1: have had a director that took them under their wing
- 9:56Speaker 1: and then they did three or four things and then
- 9:58Speaker 1: catapulted there acting career. You know. Once I wasn't on
- 10:02Speaker 1: sister system and I didn't really have that right in
- 10:05Speaker 1: a sense. Uh, And it made it very discouraging to
- 10:08Speaker 1: walk into a casting director's office and reef somewhere right.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Let me just slow it down here. But Rashaw McDonald
- 10:14Speaker 1: hasn't went anywhere, okay, And this is like, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 1: how how you reconnect? You know what I'm saying, out
- 10:20Speaker 1: of sight, out of mind, Well you're back in Rashaw's
- 10:23Speaker 1: mind and you're not out of sight no more. And
- 10:25Speaker 1: I have a lot of projects coming up, and I'm
- 10:27Speaker 1: gonna contact your people, man, because I just feel you're
- 10:30Speaker 1: a special guy to me. Man, your personality because we
- 10:33Speaker 1: met many times corporate gigs, you know, Steve show, you
- 10:36Speaker 1: came in, did some live performances and things like that.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So our relationship is is a long term and done
- 10:42Speaker 1: a lot of things for the Hoodie Awards and all
- 10:44Speaker 1: those things. You've always been there. When I picked up
- 10:47Speaker 1: the phone to say, hey man, could you do a
- 10:49Speaker 1: favor for us? Can you do something for charity? And
- 10:51Speaker 1: but more importantly, I just felt that, you know, I
- 10:55Speaker 1: just want to I just want to recapture something I
- 10:57Speaker 1: saw many years ago to be a very spell for
- 11:00Speaker 1: that talent has not went away, my friend. You still
- 11:02Speaker 1: it's still it's still burying that buried in that heart.
- 11:06Speaker 1: It's still buried inside. It's funny that you say that,
- 11:09Speaker 1: because watching the meteor drive to Steve and you right
- 11:13Speaker 1: there with him, it did cross my mind that had
- 11:17Speaker 1: we kept that relationship the way it was, that who
- 11:20Speaker 1: knows what could have happened through through me trying to
- 11:23Speaker 1: do a talk show and things of that nature. To
- 11:26Speaker 1: have somebody like you instead of the people that I
- 11:29Speaker 1: did have around me at the time, would have would
- 11:32Speaker 1: have really well, brother, Just you know that's it. It's funny.
- 11:36Speaker 1: That's a funny thing. We know, we we were together again,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and uh, we're together because we talked about about your life,
- 11:42Speaker 1: your music, and that's what has been the story of
- 11:44Speaker 1: your life, you know, your music, and so tell us
- 11:47Speaker 1: about your music today the Exodus and we're talking about
- 11:50Speaker 1: some of the things you're talking about, but it just
- 11:51Speaker 1: walkers forward. I just wanted to walk down memory ain't
- 11:55Speaker 1: a little bit with you, Brian, because of the fact
- 11:57Speaker 1: that I love you, dude, I love you. Know it
- 12:00Speaker 1: on the sidelines and I stopped managing Steven six trying
- 12:03Speaker 1: to find my voice, you know, trying to find what
- 12:05Speaker 1: I wanted to do. I managing bitch, Steve Nay Smith
- 12:07Speaker 1: and now he's the highest paid personal ESPN and salary wise,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and we got some great things happening. But I'm reconnected
- 12:14Speaker 1: with people. Over the years, I felt that, hey man,
- 12:17Speaker 1: that God gifts that God gave them, and I wanted
- 12:19Speaker 1: to kind of like stimulate them. But the gift that
- 12:22Speaker 1: God gave you that's always been at the forefront has
- 12:24Speaker 1: been your music. Tell us about what you had right now?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Well right now, you know, I met I met my
- 12:30Speaker 1: wife back in twelve and one of the things I
- 12:34Speaker 1: think that disconnected about me was that I never had
- 12:39Speaker 1: a subject for any of that music earlier on. I
- 12:43Speaker 1: never even liked anyone, let alone love them, and nobody
- 12:46Speaker 1: ever did it for me in the way that my
- 12:47Speaker 1: music would have suggested until I met my wife, And
- 12:52Speaker 1: every song that I've written since the day we met
- 12:54Speaker 1: has been about heard about our love. So it's it's
- 12:57Speaker 1: the story of finding that thing that everybody wants that
- 13:02Speaker 1: very few people have that when you look at our
- 13:05Speaker 1: at my Instagram and I the love that we have,
- 13:07Speaker 1: it is so real and so pure, and we lived
- 13:09Speaker 1: this love every day and it is a reflection of
- 13:11Speaker 1: the music. I spent the first, you know, twenty years
- 13:14Speaker 1: of my career trying to figure out how to put
- 13:17Speaker 1: this many this many syllables with this many notes, and
- 13:21Speaker 1: try to to imitate Stevie Wonder and imitate this guy
- 13:24Speaker 1: and irritate that guy. But by the time I met Leilani,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, music, now he's coming from my heart. She
- 13:31Speaker 1: is the endless source of inspiration that I have found,
- 13:34Speaker 1: and I am the man that I never could have
- 13:38Speaker 1: been had she not been in my life, and the
- 13:40Speaker 1: best time I could ever possibly be because of her,
- 13:43Speaker 1: So better. Three records ago was the beginning of all
- 13:47Speaker 1: the music that she's inspired. Genesis was the second part
- 13:51Speaker 1: of that, and our exodus is another love letter to
- 13:53Speaker 1: my wife. Because I am happier and I'm listen the
- 13:59Speaker 1: happiness that I have. I'm sure you can here. It
- 14:00Speaker 1: comes to the phone and it's unbelievable to be the
- 14:03Speaker 1: happy you're listening to money making conversations with Rashan McDonald
- 14:07Speaker 1: will be right back. Cars today are like a computer

- 15:06Speaker 1: A deductible may apply. Welcome back to money making conversations.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm your host, Sean McDonald. Well, you know I feel
- 15:14Speaker 1: that first of all, you have to stabilize yourself emotionally,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and then when you wake up, you have a reason
- 15:19Speaker 1: for waking up. That's what we're talking about right now.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Because everything has to be gold orient, you know, and
- 15:24Speaker 1: so go orient and so so so so the the
- 15:28Speaker 1: the songs that you put together on this particular CD,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and what is the you know, we all want to
- 15:33Speaker 1: sell a lot of CDs, but also there's a message
- 15:36Speaker 1: we all we want to sell. Because I'm gonna shift
- 15:38Speaker 1: after this question to go to the Kobe Bryant tribute
- 15:40Speaker 1: song because you know you your music. What I love
- 15:45Speaker 1: about it? It always made me sit down and think.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It always made me I would tell that's that's great
- 15:52Speaker 1: music to me. It's it's it's songs that you can
- 15:54Speaker 1: play of yours. I know exactly where I was at, Brian.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I know exactly what I was doing, or who I
- 16:01Speaker 1: was dating, or what I was eating. All that. That's
- 16:05Speaker 1: really powerful, man. That that's a tribute to your gift.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Oh thank you. But that's the thing, you know, all
- 16:12Speaker 1: those songs that you're talking about from back in the
- 16:14Speaker 1: day were the songs that I wrote for everyone else.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I had to think about what does what do my
- 16:21Speaker 1: fans want? What are they going through? But can I
- 16:23Speaker 1: write here that I have no idea because I don't.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I didn't have a heart till I met le RANI
- 16:28Speaker 1: I mean, how do I transfer that to this music?
- 16:32Speaker 1: And now all of these songs are about us and
- 16:36Speaker 1: hopefully people And this is what we get from the
- 16:38Speaker 1: comments that we see and the d ms that we receive,
- 16:41Speaker 1: that people finally have hope that they can find at
- 16:45Speaker 1: least a semblance of what we have. And that's this
- 16:47Speaker 1: music is all about. I mean, these songs on exist,
- 16:49Speaker 1: I mean from Bad, which is the day we met
- 16:52Speaker 1: and I wanted to speak with her and she was
- 16:54Speaker 1: not having it. To stay on your mind, which is
- 16:58Speaker 1: completely about the first we actually did make love to nobody,
- 17:03Speaker 1: which is you know uh to me, the greatest love
- 17:06Speaker 1: song I've ever written, because I'm saying and feeling all
- 17:11Speaker 1: those things that say but that I'm not gonna hold
- 17:13Speaker 1: anybody's hand or kissing anybody. I'm not gonna think about
- 17:15Speaker 1: anyone else. There is nobody else in this whole world
- 17:18Speaker 1: for me but you. I've never made statements like that.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I've never made statements about you know. I always wrote
- 17:26Speaker 1: everything very on the surface because I didn't feel anything.
- 17:28Speaker 1: But there was nothing to write about, so I left
- 17:30Speaker 1: it open because that's all there was. But now it's
- 17:33Speaker 1: so much deeper, and that's what I'm talking about on
- 17:35Speaker 1: this album. Now you go from those songs to the
- 17:38Speaker 1: Kobe Brant tribute that I did now he referred to
- 17:42Speaker 1: because this year has been crazy. This this has been
- 17:47Speaker 1: unlike anything in my fifty one years that I've ever seen. Um.
- 17:51Speaker 1: To see Kobe go down the way that he did
- 17:53Speaker 1: in the whole world, I like it to when Elvis
- 17:56Speaker 1: passed in seventies and seventies. I was young, but the
- 17:59Speaker 1: whole world were you nothing that you know, this Kobe thing,
- 18:03Speaker 1: because that the sad part, the really sad part about
- 18:08Speaker 1: Kobe's death is that you found out so much about
- 18:12Speaker 1: him right after he died. You found out he was
- 18:17Speaker 1: such a humble cat, and you just saw him as
- 18:19Speaker 1: this incredible athlete on the court, but you realize the
- 18:24Speaker 1: conversation off the court was equally as hall of famous.
- 18:28Speaker 1: If that is a work, and you know, you know
- 18:32Speaker 1: people the way that I do that, it's very difficult
- 18:35Speaker 1: for really successful people to turn off that drive that
- 18:40Speaker 1: they had. He was able to be and have that
- 18:43Speaker 1: drive that no one could touch on the court, but
- 18:45Speaker 1: the minute the step off the court, he could be
- 18:48Speaker 1: something else. He didn't have to be that guy he
- 18:50Speaker 1: was on the court. Off the court, he could channel
- 18:53Speaker 1: that energy in another way. And it's tough for people
- 18:55Speaker 1: to do that for boxes, for comedians. Comedians, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 1: they always have to be on right way in just
- 19:01Speaker 1: a regular conversation. It was tough for them to not be,
- 19:05Speaker 1: you know. And it's it was great to be around
- 19:06Speaker 1: him to see that he could be that well around
- 19:08Speaker 1: it now. So so talk about putting this song together
- 19:11Speaker 1: because this guy's multi talented and you found that this
- 19:14Speaker 1: is post stuff. I I'm an industry so I knew
- 19:17Speaker 1: about Kobe, but you found out how great a father
- 19:20Speaker 1: he was. You found out he was an Oscar wrarunner.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You found out he was a stupid businessman. He thought
- 19:25Speaker 1: he traveled in different countries and China and he really
- 19:29Speaker 1: had his hands. So his transition from the sport, you go, hey,
- 19:33Speaker 1: what is he gonna do? He had already planned that
- 19:35Speaker 1: exit because he was an entrepreneur. And with all those things,
- 19:39Speaker 1: how did it come about putting this song together, the
- 19:41Speaker 1: Kobe Trippute song in his Owner? You know, I really
- 19:44Speaker 1: just looked at how the whole world came together. Even
- 19:50Speaker 1: people who weren't basketball fans were affected by this man's
- 19:55Speaker 1: life and ultimately his death. And it was really that
- 19:58Speaker 1: feeling in my own Hig was UM having to one
- 20:02Speaker 1: teenager and one um child as twenty one who really
- 20:06Speaker 1: didn't get to see him play and really understand that
- 20:09Speaker 1: they were affected, which really blew my mind. UM waking
- 20:13Speaker 1: up every day really in disbelief that he was gone.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Um to my wife and I would just sit there
- 20:19Speaker 1: and really just couldn't grasp the concept that he wasn't here. Um.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I grabbed my guitar and literally, from the conversations we
- 20:29Speaker 1: have wrote this song because I wanted to to give
- 20:33Speaker 1: some relief to those folks who were heard in so badly.
- 20:36Speaker 1: You know, it's really interesting because, like you said, this
- 20:38Speaker 1: has been a crazy year because those two African American
- 20:41Speaker 1: men who passed away to stop this world. The first
- 20:45Speaker 1: of course, that was done unfortunate. Both of passing was
- 20:47Speaker 1: unfortunate because one they were shocking to us. And when
- 20:51Speaker 1: I to hear the news of Kobe Bryant Dane and
- 20:54Speaker 1: helicopter crash with his daughter, you know, and and I
- 20:57Speaker 1: have a I'm a parent and I have a thing
- 21:00Speaker 1: daughter that that was just devastating for me. Knowing that
- 21:03Speaker 1: his daughter was with him his death for Lung was
- 21:05Speaker 1: devastating the fact that his daughter that was a more
- 21:08Speaker 1: equally devastating. And then the George Floyd's situation which stopped
- 21:12Speaker 1: the world and has has galvanized people, and uh, it's
- 21:15Speaker 1: time to change the Black Lives Matter music. You're an
- 21:18Speaker 1: emotional guy, your leader, You're in that whole world of
- 21:22Speaker 1: change and and and galvanizing people emotionally with with the
- 21:26Speaker 1: Kobe Bryant and then the George Floyd. What do your
- 21:29Speaker 1: comments on this? And then we're gonna slide over to
- 21:31Speaker 1: the pandemic. If we have talked about the pandemic yet
- 21:35Speaker 1: you know, I'm a I'm a forward thinker the Sean
- 21:37Speaker 1: and it's it's really sucks that something so tragic had
- 21:45Speaker 1: to happen for this conversation to start again. Um, being
- 21:51Speaker 1: as old as I am, and I think as old
- 21:53Speaker 1: as you are, remembering what like in the sixties and
- 21:55Speaker 1: the seventies, and seeing that there has been some progress,
- 21:59Speaker 1: we both realized that we had not overcome yet. As
- 22:04Speaker 1: good as things may have been, it's unfortunate that once
- 22:08Speaker 1: again it took something this tragic took this conversations tied again.
- 22:11Speaker 1: The question is where do we go from here? And
- 22:16Speaker 1: it's it's a good thing that this that all of
- 22:18Speaker 1: this awareness is is coming to light of people. And
- 22:21Speaker 1: the thing that is great is and not that there
- 22:23Speaker 1: is a great thing about it, if you can take
- 22:24Speaker 1: somebody from it, the people who some of the people
- 22:26Speaker 1: who are protesting, people who are at the forefront of
- 22:30Speaker 1: this aren't of color. And this is something that I've
- 22:33Speaker 1: never seen in my lifetime that people who aren't black are,
- 22:37Speaker 1: you know, championing this cause. And I think that's one
- 22:40Speaker 1: of the good things that comes from this. And Hopefully
- 22:42Speaker 1: this conversation happens, we can have it uncomfortably and then
- 22:45Speaker 1: we never have to have it again. That's my hope.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And that's and that's that's a great hope. And I
- 22:50Speaker 1: think that when you when you because and this this
- 22:53Speaker 1: year and uh, and I'm not trying to get into politics.
- 22:56Speaker 1: It's just life, you know that we're talking about. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: you're you're tremendous musical audience and your emotion and things
- 23:02Speaker 1: that you sing about tapping into what we you know,
- 23:05Speaker 1: you've made me crying, you maybe laugh, you maybe dance. Okay, right, okay,
- 23:08Speaker 1: let's be real not you know, I've been in concerts
- 23:12Speaker 1: in the l A watching you understanding up going yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 1: you know you remember that I'm in the concert. I
- 23:17Speaker 1: want you had that silhouette. You just come out with
- 23:18Speaker 1: a silhouette. Remember that I go back with your baby,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I go back with you, and so and and and
- 23:27Speaker 1: and so. When you when then you look at the
- 23:28Speaker 1: pandemic and and you realize that African Americans are and
- 23:32Speaker 1: people of color or dying overtly of this of this uh,
- 23:36Speaker 1: this worldwide that some people call little plague, and and
- 23:40Speaker 1: it just forced me to change my value system and
- 23:43Speaker 1: how I approach the and how communicate things to people
- 23:46Speaker 1: and some ways I've become a pandemic expert on how
- 23:49Speaker 1: the handling your finances and how you live your life socially.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And then you have a family, you this is home now,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you know, how how did you deal with And I'll
- 23:58Speaker 1: just tell you my short story when I I'm comfortable
- 24:00Speaker 1: with it, Brian. But initially, man, I had problems going
- 24:04Speaker 1: out in the streets. I didn't know what to do.
- 24:05Speaker 1: They have gloves put the still, so I put the
- 24:09Speaker 1: mask on. I really was struggling, and it was in
- 24:12Speaker 1: somewhat way it's fearful of this, and I'm not saying
- 24:15Speaker 1: I'm not afraid of it now, but I'm much more
- 24:17Speaker 1: comfortable because, like they said, this is the new normal,
- 24:20Speaker 1: and you learn to adjust to the new normal. Yeah.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You know what's funny about that is my wife has
- 24:26Speaker 1: been preaching distancing way before the way before it is
- 24:31Speaker 1: this happened. You know, she germs and touching people and
- 24:35Speaker 1: shaking hands. I shake hands after every show and she
- 24:37Speaker 1: was like, just you know, before you touch me, you
- 24:43Speaker 1: better go over there and get your hands real, real
- 24:45Speaker 1: clean and everything. You know. So we have been really looking,
- 24:51Speaker 1: you know, to be this way for quite some time,
- 24:54Speaker 1: so there hasn't been a lot of of of adjustments
- 24:57Speaker 1: necessarily for home bodies anyway. Um, there's two things. One,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I hadn't taken a break from doing shows and probably
- 25:04Speaker 1: fifteen years, so I'm sure that my voice, my body,
- 25:08Speaker 1: my mind needed a bit of a break anyway that
- 25:11Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't be taken. Uh So that's a good thing.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And we've actually been able to spend time just together
- 25:17Speaker 1: the family. Our parents were here, we were having family
- 25:19Speaker 1: dinner every night, being together where we normally wouldn't be
- 25:23Speaker 1: unless we was a holiday. So is that part of
- 25:26Speaker 1: it's been good as well. So again we try to
- 25:28Speaker 1: find that silver lining and otherwise tough situation, but hopefully
- 25:34Speaker 1: this is educating people that you know, we all need
- 25:37Speaker 1: to be cleaner, we all need to sanitize all the
- 25:40Speaker 1: things that we need to sanitize, and just you know,
- 25:42Speaker 1: be cognizant when you're sneezing, when you're coughing. We've been
- 25:45Speaker 1: on airplanes or someone behind us just sneezing all over
- 25:47Speaker 1: the place, off and all over the plane. You know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: these are things that people are now hopefully are being
- 25:52Speaker 1: more cognizant about but as you go out to the
- 25:54Speaker 1: grocery store and go out the places, not everyone is
- 25:58Speaker 1: that hearing to this, and that's the part that can
- 26:00Speaker 1: be very frustrated. Absolutely, Now the twenty album extra this,
- 26:06Speaker 1: uh tell us, UH tell us the whole story about
- 26:09Speaker 1: getting the album, getting the singles? What what can I do?
- 26:11Speaker 1: What can I do? I got social media too? You
- 26:13Speaker 1: know you're shrying to built his own brand now, I
- 26:16Speaker 1: gotta I got a mailing list of ninety three thousand
- 26:18Speaker 1: going out this Wednesday. I got almost a million social
- 26:21Speaker 1: media followers on the Rashaan McDonald money making conversations. What
- 26:25Speaker 1: can I do for my good friend Brian McKnight, I
- 26:29Speaker 1: tell you just just talking to you now and knowing
- 26:32Speaker 1: that you're still in my corner after all these years. Man,
- 26:35Speaker 1: it's it's a conversation that we can have because we
- 26:38Speaker 1: all need that, because everybody's on social media. Because because
- 26:42Speaker 1: of that, everyone becomes a celebrity of some notes. How
- 26:46Speaker 1: do you make how do you make your noise be
- 26:49Speaker 1: seen and be heard by people that are all over
- 26:52Speaker 1: the place. Anybody you would think, oh wow, now I
- 26:55Speaker 1: can just sell directly to my fans. Well, it's not
- 26:57Speaker 1: quite that easy because everybody has something to say. Everybody
- 27:02Speaker 1: has you know, it's tough to make your way and
- 27:04Speaker 1: navigate through this sea of people, um and the three.
- 27:09Speaker 1: You really need to lean on someone several someone's who
- 27:12Speaker 1: knew how to navigate that several of the great. Yeah,
- 27:16Speaker 1: it's another great reason to be back in contact with
- 27:19Speaker 1: you because I've seen the things you've done. I mean,
- 27:21Speaker 1: I watch Stephen every day, watch his watch his meteoric rise,
- 27:26Speaker 1: and you know, it can't it can't be a coincidence
- 27:30Speaker 1: that you're standing next to all of these people who
- 27:33Speaker 1: have had the New York rides. And now that I
- 27:35Speaker 1: look back and say, man, he was in my quarterback
- 27:37Speaker 1: in the day, and I could have had that thing.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I'm still in your corner. So let's stop on that mat,
- 27:44Speaker 1: stop on that man. It's just that, you know, I
- 27:47Speaker 1: tell everybody just that, I just I just sat down
- 27:49Speaker 1: on myself and just figure out who Sean McDonald wall was,
- 27:53Speaker 1: and like you, in the pandemic. This has been a
- 27:55Speaker 1: good thing for me as well, because from my from us,
- 27:58Speaker 1: from a spiritual, from us social, from a family standpoint,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I really it's a it's a crisis, an on going crisis.
- 28:04Speaker 1: But my whole life has been dealing with some type
- 28:07Speaker 1: of crisis, but building other people's careers and and things
- 28:10Speaker 1: like that. Now that I set back and I look
- 28:12Speaker 1: at what I can accomplish for myself, I know I
- 28:15Speaker 1: can do more for others who trust me, who really
- 28:17Speaker 1: trusts me, and and and when I look at your
- 28:21Speaker 1: music and I look at the times we you know say,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I'm one of these guys. But you might not say
- 28:26Speaker 1: hello to me or by to me, but I'm watching,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I'm watching, and I'm loving them. I'm going I just
- 28:32Speaker 1: give my life right. Because I give my life right,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I can do some right things for people that I love,
- 28:36Speaker 1: I respect, And you want to hear at the top
- 28:38Speaker 1: of the list of one of those lists, Brian mgnited,
- 28:40Speaker 1: I love, I respect, and I just wanted to bring
- 28:43Speaker 1: you on the show man just to talk and laugh
- 28:44Speaker 1: about some things. You probably think we're not important to me,
- 28:48Speaker 1: but they are important to me. And you can hear
- 28:49Speaker 1: come out of my mouth and just share story with
- 28:52Speaker 1: my my my fans on the money Making Conversation platform.
- 28:55Speaker 1: That's all. It's a funny thing because I'm one of
- 28:58Speaker 1: those people too. I probably would have never picked up
- 29:00Speaker 1: the phone and calls myself and said, hey, can you
- 29:03Speaker 1: look at this and tell me how I can do that?
- 29:06Speaker 1: Because watching you work, it's hard to know that you're
- 29:11Speaker 1: watching because you've seen very you know, a student about
- 29:15Speaker 1: what you're actually doing. And now hearing you say that
- 29:18Speaker 1: you were still watching it, it makes me feel good
- 29:21Speaker 1: because I was like, man, Ma Sean, you know he
- 29:24Speaker 1: he's doing all this, you know, he I wonder if
- 29:27Speaker 1: you could do something for me, but I don't want
- 29:28Speaker 1: to ask because he's dealing with somebody who's bigger than me.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Right now, Really get that that that thing about you
- 29:34Speaker 1: that says, you know, maybe not ra Sean, maybe there's
- 29:36Speaker 1: somebody else, but you know what, why not do with
- 29:38Speaker 1: the guy who's the best day? There you go, there
- 29:39Speaker 1: you go, there you go. Hey be man, thank you
- 29:42Speaker 1: for calling the show man. And again we will talk soon.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I gotta wrap up some scenes in the month of
- 29:47Speaker 1: August and September. We will talk. But again I'm a
- 29:50Speaker 1: drop the information in my fan club. Just everything I've
- 29:53Speaker 1: done for myself, Man, if my key was to be
- 29:56Speaker 1: able to have myself a voice, a vorce, to be
- 29:58Speaker 1: able to make a difference to vorce to be able
- 29:59Speaker 1: to and reintroduced myself to friends and say, hey man,
- 30:03Speaker 1: this ain't by the contract. This is not even by
- 30:05Speaker 1: trying to give me a dollar. It's about my love
- 30:08Speaker 1: for you, by love for an individual who has just
- 30:11Speaker 1: do You're a game changer. Okay, Bryan, forget that. The
- 30:15Speaker 1: game change that and and we're gonna change the game
- 30:18Speaker 1: starting this year too. Together. I'm ready. I'm in your hands. Okay,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I appreciate you man. We talked to it. Okay, okay,

- 32:38Speaker 1: with Dr Denay Simpson, Assistant Professor of Surgery at Northwestern Medicine,
- 32:42Speaker 1: tell us about the African American Transplant Access Program. So
- 32:46Speaker 1: this is my baby. This is a program that I
- 32:49Speaker 1: have dreamt about creating since I became interested in transplant
- 32:53Speaker 1: as a trainee, and it's a program designed to address
- 32:57Speaker 1: the significant disparities that our African American patients space. The
- 33:03Speaker 1: program is designed to educate patients about transplant, let them
- 33:08Speaker 1: know what transplant can provide to them, and to help
- 33:11Speaker 1: them access the resources that they find so scarce and
- 33:16Speaker 1: so challenging to access in order to get them on
- 33:19Speaker 1: the transplant path and back to you know, some type
- 33:23Speaker 1: of meaningful life. For more information, visit n m dot

- 33:30Speaker 1: your host Sean McDonald. My next guest is an Emmy
- 33:32Speaker 1: nominated actress, HBCU graduate activists, author, comedian, and most importantly,
- 33:38Speaker 1: a mother. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised
- 33:41Speaker 1: in Soudane. That's the first time I I've read I've
- 33:45Speaker 1: had on the show and known her for over twenty years.
- 33:47Speaker 1: That's the first time I've ever known that little negged
- 33:50Speaker 1: about her, so we will definitely be talking about that.
- 33:52Speaker 1: She's easily recognized from our frequent appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm,
- 33:56Speaker 1: developed called Following an Ice Cubes hit movie Next Friday,
- 33:59Speaker 1: had the all of the show on their own network network,
- 34:02Speaker 1: and many many many television appearance where she's co star
- 34:05Speaker 1: star and made special appearances. She is on the show
- 34:08Speaker 1: to discuss her weight loss campaign with weight Watchers. Weight
- 34:12Speaker 1: Watchers Oprahtta Opraghotta now weight Watcher. Weight Watchers offers a
- 34:17Speaker 1: scientifically proven program for weight loss and wellness with digital
- 34:21Speaker 1: studio and personal coaching solutions to help you meet your
- 34:24Speaker 1: weight loss goal. She's doing it with a crew called
- 34:27Speaker 1: the Post That's How Crew That's gonna guide y'all to
- 34:31Speaker 1: weight loss weight loss Heaven. Please walk with the money
- 34:34Speaker 1: making conversation. My friend Kim Whitley, do you know I
- 34:40Speaker 1: am over here holding my mouth. I am cracking up.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I was like, what an introduction weight loss having baby?
- 34:50Speaker 1: We're going to weight loss Heaven. You're hear me, Kim Whitley. Okay,
- 34:58Speaker 1: what you're talking about? Let's talk about Look on your
- 35:00Speaker 1: long time, kimp Okay, long time. Okay, you fine, you fine, Okay?
- 35:05Speaker 1: If we get up there, you know I would tell
- 35:07Speaker 1: people I lost weight, I lost twenty pounds because I
- 35:09Speaker 1: would tell you, ain't nobody paying me to tackle nobody.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Ain't nobody paying me to hit nobody? Why am I
- 35:15Speaker 1: walking around with these extra twenty parts? When I lost
- 35:18Speaker 1: that weight, I am a better person. I had to
- 35:21Speaker 1: change a lot of clothes because they were bagging loose
- 35:23Speaker 1: on me. But I brag about the fact that I
- 35:26Speaker 1: am not to seventeen. I am like, I'll go between
- 35:30Speaker 1: one night five and one seven on the daily daily
- 35:33Speaker 1: basis depending on what I eat the night before. So
- 35:36Speaker 1: I get up every morning that way myself. So I know,
- 35:39Speaker 1: and I've gotten I got an image of where I
- 35:41Speaker 1: got down to one eighty nine. I went a holo,
- 35:44Speaker 1: holo holder, that's way too low, Okay, I got like
- 35:48Speaker 1: you can see my toes on the scale, one eight
- 35:50Speaker 1: nine I went. I got down to one eight nine,
- 35:54Speaker 1: one eighty nine and and uh and so I know
- 35:57Speaker 1: the value of weight control are the value of uh
- 36:03Speaker 1: feeling different and then setting a goal and then achieving
- 36:06Speaker 1: a goal. And that's why I just said up at
- 36:08Speaker 1: the top of the show, I've known you a long time.
- 36:10Speaker 1: You're a beautiful woman. In fact, I recently saw your
- 36:13Speaker 1: the reaver Us charity event that you threw in your
- 36:15Speaker 1: back and you look beautiful there too. Now what led
- 36:20Speaker 1: us to this point weight Watchers and getting involved with
- 36:23Speaker 1: the weight Watchers Before we get to the posse, let's
- 36:25Speaker 1: talk about your first your personal journey. About the weight
- 36:28Speaker 1: Watchers content. Well, you know, uh, you know they've rebranded it.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's called WW when it was weight Watchers, uh back
- 36:39Speaker 1: in the day. You know, I'm being honest with You've
- 36:42Speaker 1: never done it before. I've never been a Weight Watchers person. Um.
- 36:46Speaker 1: When they started saying, you know, w W, it's all news,
- 36:49Speaker 1: it's it's brand. You know, it's Brandon. I know that
- 36:53Speaker 1: I have and trying. You know, I'm always trying to
- 36:56Speaker 1: lose this weight. I think we're always trying to be
- 36:57Speaker 1: a better version of ourselves. And I'm telling you what, Sean,
- 37:03Speaker 1: when this pandemic hit, I said, the first thing I
- 37:07Speaker 1: said is Okay, we're about to be locked down. I
- 37:10Speaker 1: want to come out a better person than I went in, Like,
- 37:14Speaker 1: I don't want this thing to come out and I
- 37:16Speaker 1: bust out and I look like I've been in jail
- 37:19Speaker 1: lifting weight. Like you don't lock down, but you can
- 37:22Speaker 1: come out better, right, Like I just came off the yard,
- 37:25Speaker 1: right right, As long as you got no dreads, Okay, no, no, no,
- 37:29Speaker 1: car Rolls, You're gonna be good. Car Rolls. You really
- 37:32Speaker 1: look like I will be good, you know. And you
- 37:36Speaker 1: know it's just been a mother of a nine year
- 37:39Speaker 1: old boy who have a lot of energy and just saying,
- 37:44Speaker 1: you know we like you've always asked me questions like
- 37:47Speaker 1: what's your next five years look like? Where's the next
- 37:50Speaker 1: ten years look like? And if I really look back,
- 37:52Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, I've done things, but have I really
- 37:55Speaker 1: made a significant change? Um? I could be funny, I
- 37:58Speaker 1: can keep moving on, but really, what is the next
- 38:02Speaker 1: the one thing I can control is what I put
- 38:04Speaker 1: in my mouth and what I do with my body.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Anything else and a lot of things you know other
- 38:10Speaker 1: people can control. But if you can't control yourself, that
- 38:14Speaker 1: what what what are you doing? So you know that's
- 38:18Speaker 1: how I would say how it started, that the one
- 38:22Speaker 1: thing I can control will give me, um the confidence
- 38:28Speaker 1: to do other things. Because I can't control this, I
- 38:32Speaker 1: can make the outcome better and be stronger and and
- 38:38Speaker 1: um just healthier. So I think that's what it was.
- 38:41Speaker 1: You know, Um, I've been what I look at it
- 38:45Speaker 1: as weight loss and a diet. It never worked, it
- 38:47Speaker 1: always came back. But with w W I have, I've
- 38:51Speaker 1: learned to be healthy. I make better choices, and I
- 38:56Speaker 1: can cook for me and Joshua. So that's what I
- 38:59Speaker 1: was messing up with. I was making food for him
- 39:02Speaker 1: and I was trying to make food for me. Then
- 39:04Speaker 1: I'm going through this, you know, just eating and this
- 39:06Speaker 1: it was just out of control. And I'll be honest
- 39:10Speaker 1: with you for Sean, what I tell people, and not
- 39:14Speaker 1: just weight lost, but in life, go back and look
- 39:17Speaker 1: at your pictures because what we do is we take
- 39:20Speaker 1: a lot of pictures. We take a lot of pictures.
- 39:21Speaker 1: We used to front of out, which was better, and
- 39:25Speaker 1: we never looked out. But if you go back and
- 39:28Speaker 1: look at your pictures and see where you were or
- 39:30Speaker 1: how you're doing, it makes you accountable. And so I
- 39:35Speaker 1: looked back on some pictures. I was like, oh lord,
- 39:37Speaker 1: I was big and it was it was working with
- 39:41Speaker 1: it though, it was working with I have a picture
- 39:43Speaker 1: of me when I went the Emmies, I was bragging
- 39:46Speaker 1: about and then and then my staff went, boy, look
- 39:49Speaker 1: at those fat cheeks. You know who was on the
- 39:51Speaker 1: zoom call. I went, what you're talking about? Boy? He
- 39:54Speaker 1: was doing Chucky back in the day. That's my biggy Emmy.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I was on stage and Mario lope As. I thought
- 40:00Speaker 1: I was looking good. My suit was fine. But I
- 40:04Speaker 1: was two hundred and seventeen pounds when I won that Emmy,
- 40:08Speaker 1: turning in seventeen pounds. Now I'm one namey seven. That's
- 40:14Speaker 1: a difference. That's a different look, that's a different commitment.
- 40:18Speaker 1: And you know my waistline thirty six. So I'm just
- 40:22Speaker 1: saying to letting everybody, I'm an advocate of what you're
- 40:25Speaker 1: doing with w W. You know, we know we're all
- 40:27Speaker 1: our basis being a comedian. We're gonna be funny, but
- 40:30Speaker 1: when you move all funny aside, it's about how do
- 40:33Speaker 1: you feel and how do you look at What are
- 40:35Speaker 1: you most proud of. I brag about the fact that
- 40:37Speaker 1: I've lost twenty pounds and and that's important. You know.
- 40:41Speaker 1: The person who got me moving in that direction was
- 40:43Speaker 1: Morris Chestnuting. He got me moving in that direction to
- 40:47Speaker 1: look at weight loss and considering it and say, you
- 40:50Speaker 1: know you can I saw high good, he looked in
- 40:52Speaker 1: that that that that that that part two or best man.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I went, dude, what did you do? And he told
- 40:59Speaker 1: me he lost weight? Went okay, cool. So when I
- 41:01Speaker 1: looked at when I when I heard about this, I
- 41:03Speaker 1: immediately had to get you on the phone to re
- 41:07Speaker 1: interview you about this because, in fact, you know, I'm
- 41:09Speaker 1: proud of your acting, I'm proud of the comedy, I'm
- 41:12Speaker 1: proud of the fact that your mother, But I'm mostly
- 41:14Speaker 1: proud of this new commitment to yourself because sometimes we
- 41:18Speaker 1: have to sit back and make a commitment to ourselves.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And that's what I see the w W program is about.
- 41:24Speaker 1: It's a selfish moment for you to be able to
- 41:27Speaker 1: say you know something, Uh, I got to do something different,
- 41:33Speaker 1: and it's not cheating on myself. It's not looking sideways
- 41:37Speaker 1: in the mirror so I can find the best angle
- 41:39Speaker 1: that I look good. You know, we all got that angle,
- 41:42Speaker 1: you know. I call that that that mirror look where
- 41:45Speaker 1: you can just turn your head and you look a
- 41:47Speaker 1: little younger if you could just hold that look. But
- 41:51Speaker 1: guess what, you can't hold that look that look, hold
- 41:57Speaker 1: that look the whole that look. But w W is
- 42:00Speaker 1: trying to give you that twenty for an hour look though,
- 42:03Speaker 1: Well you don't have to hold nothing now, so I
- 42:07Speaker 1: don't even I don't even have to wear thanks anymore.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I was literally wearing all kind of girdles and thanks,
- 42:14Speaker 1: and then finally I wouldn't did this game show and
- 42:17Speaker 1: I realized I didn't have to put it on. I
- 42:19Speaker 1: was like, oh wow, it makes light a little easier.
- 42:24Speaker 1: And we're not talking a whole lot of weight. Uh
- 42:27Speaker 1: I am now like twenty six pounds down, um, And
- 42:33Speaker 1: it makes a difference, just like you said. It just
- 42:37Speaker 1: it makes me moved. I'm accountable because you know, if
- 42:41Speaker 1: I didn't say, oh I gotta work out, at least
- 42:42Speaker 1: get on the elliptical treadmill, right you know, and I'm
- 42:45Speaker 1: not talking to big workout, not like forty minutes fifteen
- 42:48Speaker 1: in the morning, me and you on the same page.
- 42:53Speaker 1: See see what you're not gonna do to Roushan is
- 42:56Speaker 1: act like I'm suddenly gonna be on a sportunator. Okay,
- 42:59Speaker 1: I'm in there just pumping on that that pumping iron.
- 43:04Speaker 1: It ever happened at rashane If. Steve Harb used to
- 43:07Speaker 1: always laugh at me when I when I told him
- 43:09Speaker 1: what I did in the gym, You go, really, I
- 43:11Speaker 1: go in there, I do twenty powder curl twenty per curvel,
- 43:16Speaker 1: doing like real quick, thirty third one third or I'm done.
- 43:19Speaker 1: He said, well, what are you doing? I said, I'm done.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I'm done. And so so that's now. Another thing I've
- 43:26Speaker 1: done is I'm stretching. Now. That has been something I've
- 43:29Speaker 1: found to be such a blessing for me. Now. I
- 43:32Speaker 1: never stretched in my life, and I realized that Kim
- 43:36Speaker 1: I was losing my swag, my stride. I was making
- 43:40Speaker 1: a conscious elf, conscious effort to be cool, you know,
- 43:43Speaker 1: because you know, as you get older, your your stride
- 43:46Speaker 1: gets shorter and your muscles gets started contracting. Okay, and
- 43:50Speaker 1: so that means that if. And that's why you see
- 43:52Speaker 1: people start taking those little bitty staffs to start bending
- 43:55Speaker 1: over the lot, or or they make a conscious effort
- 43:58Speaker 1: to reach out for something, or they walk or they
- 44:00Speaker 1: reach out real short. That's because people are not stretching.
- 44:03Speaker 1: And so now see see right there. See so now
- 44:08Speaker 1: you're twenty six pounds down and now you're stretching. Tell
- 44:13Speaker 1: everybody on the w W program, which Oprah Winfrey Ball
- 44:19Speaker 1: changing from Weight Watchers made WW tell us that next step,
- 44:22Speaker 1: how you feeling right now? Because we're gonna get into
- 44:24Speaker 1: the posse next. But I wanted to start the interview
- 44:27Speaker 1: Kim about your new journey because it has to be
- 44:31Speaker 1: a commitment. A lot of people want to. They want
- 44:33Speaker 1: to they want to just think losing weight is it's
- 44:35Speaker 1: something automatic. But see if you want to stay off,
- 44:38Speaker 1: like I said, I lost the weight, I lost this
- 44:41Speaker 1: weight in so I'm in and I kept it off, okay,
- 44:49Speaker 1: and and so and so even I'm gonna just tell
- 44:52Speaker 1: you this. In December, I was at nine and I
- 44:56Speaker 1: and I went whoa, whoa, and I ran over the
- 44:59Speaker 1: Golden Corral. I wanted the Golden Corral and and and hey, hey,
- 45:03Speaker 1: hey hey, and got crazy for a couple of days
- 45:06Speaker 1: in a row to get back up to one ninety five.
- 45:08Speaker 1: And so I'd like to say I jumped between one
- 45:11Speaker 1: ninty five and one ninty seven on the daily basis,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and I'm happy. So, but talk about that commitment of
- 45:17Speaker 1: being able to get on the w W program. And
- 45:20Speaker 1: also and then we would slide right on the end
- 45:22Speaker 1: of the posse that those ladies of twenty two queens
- 45:27Speaker 1: out there with you on this ride. Yeah, yeah, you
- 45:30Speaker 1: know it's um, I'm telling you. I was so excited
- 45:34Speaker 1: for the opportunity, uh, because I did not understand what
- 45:40Speaker 1: w W was about. And when I was presented with
- 45:43Speaker 1: the opportunity, it was a perfect time. Like I said, um,
- 45:46Speaker 1: and it just worked for me, like the first week,
- 45:50Speaker 1: you know. But you know, my friends, as we was
- 45:53Speaker 1: going to talk about, I needed to be accountable. So
- 45:56Speaker 1: you know, once they give you a coach, you're accountable
- 45:58Speaker 1: to them, you know, because you you they talk to
- 46:01Speaker 1: you that. Like you said, you wear yourself every day.
- 46:04Speaker 1: I weighed myself once a week because every day I
- 46:06Speaker 1: would be bad. Um, I will admit I weigh myself
- 46:11Speaker 1: every day. I get up at four o'clock I staggered
- 46:14Speaker 1: down the stairs to the basement and foll five. I
- 46:18Speaker 1: step on that scale now. And so I've committed to it.
- 46:21Speaker 1: And I'm just letting you know. That's just what shawns
- 46:24Speaker 1: ramp and don't don't work for you. No, You're right,
- 46:28Speaker 1: because it does keep you to check yourself. I have
- 46:31Speaker 1: some friends on w W and that does make you go, oh,
- 46:34Speaker 1: I gotta really drinkable water today or I gotta work out.
- 46:37Speaker 1: But I love it because the program is customized for me.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Uh and and once you're feel in all your what
- 46:43Speaker 1: you like and you know, I'm on the purple team.
- 46:45Speaker 1: And that's what I love about that. It actually helped me.
- 46:51Speaker 1: They accountable, put my weight in, drink my water. It
- 46:54Speaker 1: has a tracking system. But the app, the w W app,
- 46:59Speaker 1: is the most incredible thing that has ever been made.
- 47:02Speaker 1: This app, I call it my genie in the pocket.
- 47:05Speaker 1: It's like I can grub when it will come out.
- 47:07Speaker 1: It'll give me a workout, it tells me how many
- 47:09Speaker 1: points I have left. It'll give me free foods, which
- 47:13Speaker 1: sometimes when I'm too close to ending on my points,
- 47:16Speaker 1: it'll say, oh, eat this, eat that. I eat all
- 47:18Speaker 1: kind of fruits and vegetables, which has what he is
- 47:21Speaker 1: doing is training me on how to eat. When all
- 47:25Speaker 1: this is over and I go back on the road,
- 47:26Speaker 1: I might not grab that bag of cheeto. Instead, I
- 47:29Speaker 1: might just say, you know what, I'm gonna eat two
- 47:31Speaker 1: apples or whatever the case. But that's what it has
- 47:35Speaker 1: done for me. It really has uh kept me accountable.
- 47:39Speaker 1: And and it's not hard that I thought it was
- 47:42Speaker 1: gonna be hard. It it's so easy. And that's why
- 47:45Speaker 1: I want everyone to be on it because it's not
- 47:47Speaker 1: only about losing weight. It's just about a lifestyle and
- 47:50Speaker 1: being healthy and being able to cook healthy meals. And
- 47:53Speaker 1: we're not talking about masty meals with about good meals.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I made some uh some chili, some bean chili the
- 47:58Speaker 1: other day. The real point done it ship come on
- 48:02Speaker 1: So it has all kind of recipes in it. And
- 48:04Speaker 1: say I wanted to work out, like you said of stretches,
- 48:07Speaker 1: I put in a little app. I'd like to stretch today.
- 48:10Speaker 1: A little app shows me a little person. They come up,
- 48:12Speaker 1: they help me stretch. Incredible. You're listening to money making

- 49:26Speaker 1: and may the posse which is now up to twenty
- 49:30Speaker 1: two women filled with family members, friends, colleagues and comedians. Okay,
- 49:35Speaker 1: because it's almost like, you know, you gotta grab people
- 49:37Speaker 1: your love first, you know, and then everybody get on board.
- 49:40Speaker 1: That's how the possit grows, you know, because she, you know,
- 49:43Speaker 1: she started out with convincing all the friends. Girl. You know,
- 49:46Speaker 1: you know you need to be on this with me.
- 49:48Speaker 1: That's that look girl, you know conversation you had with
- 49:50Speaker 1: a couple of girl. You know, if I'm doing this,
- 49:54Speaker 1: you need to be doing this too. Come on now.
- 49:57Speaker 1: So that was the start of the posse. Now it
- 50:00Speaker 1: started in May with ten members. Now it has grown
- 50:03Speaker 1: to twenty two. So tell me how the posse works
- 50:06Speaker 1: right now, okay, And what's so crazy is the posse
- 50:12Speaker 1: started with all women, like you said, but now we
- 50:14Speaker 1: got three men of four men. Hold hold, hold hold on,
- 50:18Speaker 1: hold on okay, now now okay, now you mean I
- 50:20Speaker 1: could be a member of your posse? Yeah, so you
- 50:23Speaker 1: didn't tell me that you Okay, now you keep talking here.
- 50:27Speaker 1: You might need now now you might need to brut
- 50:30Speaker 1: You put your boy in there. Now, you put your
- 50:31Speaker 1: boy in the now because like I said, I got
- 50:34Speaker 1: bad eating habits because I'm not working with anybody. Okay,
- 50:37Speaker 1: my wife, she go out there with the dog. She
- 50:39Speaker 1: walked around the yard for an hour, come back in
- 50:42Speaker 1: the house. You know that's the schedule. I'm not walking
- 50:44Speaker 1: the dog with hug I'm not doing that. The poor dog,
- 50:48Speaker 1: he in so good shape. Is ridiculous to me. That dog,
- 50:55Speaker 1: that dog coming to how it's going. Okay, dude, okay,
- 50:58Speaker 1: can you help me? Okay, because I that muscles. I
- 51:00Speaker 1: don't need walking walking with your wife. Okay. So so
- 51:07Speaker 1: now I'm just telling you truth. I'm talking to Kim
- 51:13Speaker 1: with We're talking about the w W programs. I gotta
- 51:15Speaker 1: stay focused with her because we're gonna mess Rock tell
- 51:18Speaker 1: jokes that air check going over, the Oprah Open gonna go.
- 51:22Speaker 1: She can't do no more public interviews and poel Joy
- 51:24Speaker 1: COLECXI gonna be in trouble. How you get them on
- 51:26Speaker 1: the add with this food. They weren't talking nothing about
- 51:28Speaker 1: They're talking about su Dan, They're talking about every HBC
- 51:31Speaker 1: you graduate. They say nothing about w W. Keep talking
- 51:34Speaker 1: about losing weight with Morris chest Nutris nothing to do
- 51:37Speaker 1: with my program. Okay, you want to look like that
- 51:46Speaker 1: you what your boy doing. So so you started with Tim.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Now you're up to twenty two. You got three guys
- 51:53Speaker 1: on the program. Tell us how how you how the
- 51:56Speaker 1: program started and how you start gathering ten and how
- 52:01Speaker 1: you grew to twenty two because I'm assuming that you
- 52:03Speaker 1: want to just keep growing your posse right, you know what,
- 52:07Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know if my coach Alicia
- 52:10Speaker 1: can handle it. The policy, especially when you have comedians
- 52:12Speaker 1: they on there's cracking Joe. But what happened and be
- 52:15Speaker 1: honest with you. People started seeing the results. So we
- 52:18Speaker 1: had kins and like you know, say buddy, I invited buddies.
- 52:22Speaker 1: There's some friends I did invite Rashana and they were
- 52:24Speaker 1: like no, I'm good. Now They're like, uh, you think
- 52:27Speaker 1: I can get on that. I'm like what. So what
- 52:29Speaker 1: happens is they start seeing the results. There's those people
- 52:31Speaker 1: they come in there like oh wow, oh that really works.
- 52:35Speaker 1: So I said, you want to join us because you
- 52:37Speaker 1: do need you need support. And on the w W
- 52:41Speaker 1: app they have a connect uh community on that, which
- 52:44Speaker 1: is great because it's all a whole bunch of people.
- 52:46Speaker 1: It's like Facebook for ww you connect. We have our
- 52:50Speaker 1: own private group because it's my posse that we talked,
- 52:53Speaker 1: and we have a text chat that we talked because
- 52:55Speaker 1: we share recipes, we share ideas. Sometimes I will say,
- 53:00Speaker 1: know a game two pounds, I don't feel good. I
- 53:02Speaker 1: need to get better, and they're like, no, you can
- 53:03Speaker 1: do it, Kim. And they'll say, try this recipe this week,
- 53:06Speaker 1: do this, do that, And that has been absolutely amazing.
- 53:09Speaker 1: So the post that keeps growing because once I was
- 53:13Speaker 1: at eighteen pounds, everybody's like, oh wait a minute, people
- 53:15Speaker 1: saw me. Then I got to twenty something pounds. Now
- 53:18Speaker 1: I'm at twenty six pounds. So every time they see me,
- 53:21Speaker 1: people are like, what are you doing. I'm like, I'm
- 53:22Speaker 1: on ww And it works and it works. I have
- 53:27Speaker 1: never done anything that's been so simple, Like usually I'm hungry,
- 53:31Speaker 1: I'm not hungry, like I eat real food. I've eaten
- 53:34Speaker 1: fruit and vegetables like I've never done before because now
- 53:36Speaker 1: they taste good. Um. You know, it's all the different
- 53:40Speaker 1: recipes and ways. And then in the app it has restaurants.
- 53:44Speaker 1: So like to say, if I went to my Dinhouse,
- 53:45Speaker 1: Carls Junior, wherever I stopped, I would look in the
- 53:48Speaker 1: apt first, because if I buying it and then look
- 53:51Speaker 1: at it, I'm in trouble. But I look at and
- 53:52Speaker 1: I say, okay, I got so many points left. What
- 53:54Speaker 1: do I want? And they'll say, grier, you can get
- 53:56Speaker 1: a grilled chicken fans. I'm like, oh, okay, I get that,
- 53:59Speaker 1: and I put it in there and it's tracked and
- 54:00Speaker 1: I feel my points left. But what happens is wherever
- 54:03Speaker 1: I go, Cheesecake Factor anywhere, I can put it in
- 54:05Speaker 1: the app so I can live or you know, like
- 54:08Speaker 1: so it makes it nice. And then guess what, we
- 54:11Speaker 1: fall down the postive looking only be like, girl, I
- 54:13Speaker 1: used a nice cream. I uce really I was really up,
- 54:15Speaker 1: a surprised I had a birthday. Probably we ate, but
- 54:18Speaker 1: then we say, okay, we had a fun, let's get
- 54:21Speaker 1: back on it. And that's what's so great about that.
- 54:24Speaker 1: And that's why having someone doing it with you and
- 54:27Speaker 1: people like minded was shine. Like I was like, oh,
- 54:29Speaker 1: I need you in my life more. When you have
- 54:31Speaker 1: like minded people, it motivates you. You know, it makes
- 54:36Speaker 1: you do what what you're trying to do and what
- 54:38Speaker 1: you're trying to coptic. You've got people who are like
- 54:40Speaker 1: here have these donuts here, let's lay around and let's
- 54:44Speaker 1: do this and that. No, but I guess you might say,
- 54:46Speaker 1: hey girl, you wanna go for a walk? Hey girl,
- 54:49Speaker 1: you know I'm gonna make a nice salad. Like minded people,
- 54:51Speaker 1: you move in the right direction. And that's why the
- 54:54Speaker 1: post has been so very important um um to me,
- 54:59Speaker 1: you know. And there's a lot of moms and you know,
- 55:02Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's arranged. Which here's the deal, everybody,
- 55:08Speaker 1: we don't everybody needs to look better, feel better, wake
- 55:11Speaker 1: up and realize that they're giving themselves an opportunity to
- 55:14Speaker 1: have a better life. And that's that starts with you physically.
- 55:17Speaker 1: You know, we have mental depression, we can have physical
- 55:20Speaker 1: depression too, because when we look in the mirror, we
- 55:22Speaker 1: can keep lying to ourselves, keep lying to ourselves. But
- 55:25Speaker 1: sometimes that back ache is tied to too much weight.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Sometimes that back ache is tied to bad eating habits.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And oh and then during the pandemic, we found that
- 55:34Speaker 1: African Americans, people of color are you know, overtly or susceptible,
- 55:39Speaker 1: took over their team hospitalizations and unfortunately sometimes that so
- 55:44Speaker 1: I feel that what you're presenting right now with W
- 55:47Speaker 1: W W. I know they're not promoting that as part
- 55:49Speaker 1: of the cause, but our eating habits have to change.
- 55:53Speaker 1: And I say our I'm talking about leading the campaign
- 55:56Speaker 1: for African Americans. We all brag about fried chicken, We
- 55:59Speaker 1: all brag about, you know, eating that that colar greens
- 56:03Speaker 1: with that hog, modern chip linens and corn bread and
- 56:06Speaker 1: all that good stuff. But guess what that can lead
- 56:09Speaker 1: you to an early grade, especially with the COVID ninteen
- 56:12Speaker 1: and Dr Anthony Fauci has stated that COVID nineteen is
- 56:16Speaker 1: not going anywhere because with anything, nothing's going to ever
- 56:20Speaker 1: be a one. Even the flu vaccine is only forty
- 56:24Speaker 1: of a cure or of effectiveness. It's forty, but they
- 56:28Speaker 1: have to put it out there. That's why when some
- 56:30Speaker 1: people get the flu vaccine they get shocked when they
- 56:32Speaker 1: get the flu anyway, well it's on the okay, So
- 56:35Speaker 1: when they release a vaccine for COVID nteen, it's not
- 56:38Speaker 1: gonna be a d percent either. So right now, what
- 56:42Speaker 1: you're dealing with with w W is an opportunity to
- 56:45Speaker 1: be able to change people's lives and also when they
- 56:48Speaker 1: wake up feel better. Do you do? Don't you feel
- 56:50Speaker 1: a lot better when you wake up him. Oh my god,
- 56:55Speaker 1: I feel I can run up the steps. Before I
- 56:57Speaker 1: was hanging on the wall, hanging on the banister. I
- 57:00Speaker 1: feel much better. I have more energy. My daughter, she's laughing. Okay, Dad, Okay, Uh, really,
- 57:09Speaker 1: you're breathing hard just coming up the steps. Hey, leaving alone,
- 57:15Speaker 1: leaving alone. I'm just walking up steps. You swear I
- 57:20Speaker 1: was on a bike, riding hard sometimes walking up those steps. Now,
- 57:26Speaker 1: they are some fun things that in the group chats
- 57:28Speaker 1: that I want to talk about because I want to
- 57:30Speaker 1: let everybody know I'm talking to Kim Whitley. She's part
- 57:32Speaker 1: of this amazing w W campaign. Well, she's part of
- 57:36Speaker 1: a group. It's called the Posse. It's twenty two members
- 57:38Speaker 1: right now, and May it was only ten. She got
- 57:40Speaker 1: men involved. So men out there listening to this interview,
- 57:43Speaker 1: you can be part of the Kim Posse. All I
- 57:45Speaker 1: want to know is that I'm gonna drop this into
- 57:47Speaker 1: my newsletter on Wednesday to any thousand my fans, and
- 57:52Speaker 1: I'm being encouraging people. So if you get a sudden
- 57:54Speaker 1: uh interest and people wanted to join your posse, I'm
- 57:58Speaker 1: just gonna let you know, Kim, it's because of Rushan
- 58:00Speaker 1: McDonald because I want you to have a hundred. I
- 58:02Speaker 1: want you to have a two thousand. People want to
- 58:04Speaker 1: be part of your group because I know as a personality,
- 58:08Speaker 1: all your life as an entertainer, you know, that's what
- 58:11Speaker 1: we've done. We've entertained and we've shared, and it's a
- 58:14Speaker 1: responsibility to make people feel good. Now. I look at
- 58:17Speaker 1: you as a as a health entertainer. Now that's why
- 58:19Speaker 1: I'm feaching it. You are a health entertainer and because
- 58:23Speaker 1: you're out there now trying to make people feel good
- 58:26Speaker 1: about themselves and making that smile comes with longerity. That
- 58:31Speaker 1: smile comes because not only because you're making them feel good,
- 58:33Speaker 1: but they're feeling good about theirselves now. They have some
- 58:36Speaker 1: challenges that are in this track, like the Squad challenge
- 58:39Speaker 1: Drink Water, push Up. Just tell us about the squad
- 58:42Speaker 1: challenge because that sounds funny already, because I know where
- 58:44Speaker 1: the squad is and it can really make a man
- 58:48Speaker 1: or a woman out of if you if you're not
- 58:49Speaker 1: doing it right. And we gotta keep each other time
- 58:55Speaker 1: we're like, no, no, no, you gotta send that video.
- 58:57Speaker 1: So no, no, the video on our little group set. No, no,
- 59:03Speaker 1: you're gonna somebody I hit my squat. No, no, we're
- 59:05Speaker 1: gonna watch them and count them. So it's just to
- 59:08Speaker 1: get people moving and the group. So we always make
- 59:10Speaker 1: up like the day, like some days it was like okay, Tuesday, Thursday,
- 59:13Speaker 1: no smack day, you know, So we do things like that.
- 59:17Speaker 1: And really, I mean, if you think about it, with
- 59:20Speaker 1: all of us, we've lost the total of two hundred
- 59:22Speaker 1: and seventy seven pounds collectively, so everyone has lost something,
- 59:29Speaker 1: others need to lose more, something only needed to lose ten.
- 59:32Speaker 1: But we have all done something together and it's made
- 59:36Speaker 1: us better for it, and we've become a family um
- 59:39Speaker 1: during this time. So it's it's just been fantastic. And
- 59:43Speaker 1: I encourage everyone, uh they want to join and and
- 59:48Speaker 1: get healthier. Uh. And and we don't say, well thirty pounds,
- 59:51Speaker 1: We say a pound of time or two pounds or
- 59:54Speaker 1: you know, maybe ten pounds of pounds, because when you say, oh,
- 59:56Speaker 1: I want to lose thirty pounds, it's just overwhelming. Like
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: this week, I was like, Okay, I just want to
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: get the five pounds, that's all, you know. Please join
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: me at ww dot com flash Kim Whitley And that's
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: where the why Kim Whitley. I really encourage everyone, especially mothers,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: because we always put everyone else first and then you know,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: try to help ourselves. Well. You know, I know this
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: about myself and losing twenty pounds is that you can
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: fall off that wagon. Real you can fall off and
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: you board your boys. See a little ice creams, you
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: cup kick with some white ice and and sometimes it's
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: just not enough to eat just two, Okay, I gotta
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: look at that third and fourth. So when you fall
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: off that wagon, you have to have people to encourage you.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Just say that's all right, come on back, come on back.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Because see that's what the w W program does for you.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: It makes you. It gives you a program and you
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: can consistently win with And that's what it is. It's
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: like like you, like you said, like I told you earlier.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I can remember right februaryen I lost are lost twenty pounds,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: twenty pounds. Now now in the some August, I'm still
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: at that twenty pound mark. That's because I had to
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: figure out myself. I had to figure out. Okay, Rashwan,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: you're eating late at night. You can't eat like that
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: in the morning. You can't you can't put that on you.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: You know, you can't r Sean look here now and
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: and and a lot of people don't realize that ice
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: cream is cool just a lot of not just a
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: lot of ice cream, you know. And so diets really
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: give a bad um a statement about what you really
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: can't eat, because it all comes down to portions. It
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: all comes down to being a sensible person, being mindful
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: of exercise, not a not ax. You're not trying to
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: win when the Olympics. You're not trying to compute with
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: the anybody to track and feel I'm talking about stretching
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: while you're watching the morning news, you know, fifteen twenty minutes,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: get yourself, are trying to touch your toes, you know,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: doing high steps so you can do some stomach crunches.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: All this stuff I had to figure out so I
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: can be happy about myself. And so that's all you're
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: trying to do right now. That's it. I'm just trying
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: to be happy and I want to feel better. That's
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: the thing that people that understand you chest want to
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: feel better. That's it. So, Kim, can we follow this
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: on your social media and on your social media? We
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: can follow this on your social media, Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: My social media across the board is Kim Whitley k Y,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: m W H I C L E Y and you
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: know that's Instagram, Facebook, and you know I talked about
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: my w W journey and people see pictures of me.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I did, uh before and after then and now um,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: you know that people can see me, you know. And
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: we have some other ambassadors on there. But have you
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: seen tam La Man absolutely after Lula, you know, I
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: haven't gotten on the show yet because she was the
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: first one to make the announcement that she was an
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: ambassador for w W. So I gotta bring her on
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: the show and so so but you, my girl, I did.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I had to make sure that I take care of
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: you know you she family. But you you right there,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: you're my little SI. Yeah, we're tight. And so so
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: this is what I need from your kimp. My newsletter
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: goes out this Wednesday, so please send me that before
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: and after photo and any links that I needed to
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: promote w W. And also so we can get this
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: role because my news lother going out to Nanny three
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: thousand fans this Wednesday, and I want to promote you
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: and my subject line, you know, subject line, Okay, lose
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: weight with Kim. That's what We're gonna lose weight with Kim. Yeah,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: she's the health She's the health entertainer. Now come on now,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I love it. But I want to thank you for
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: coming on the show. But I'm getting back in touch
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: you with you because I got a project I want

- 1:04:15Speaker 1: for your son and for your friends. You're trying to
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: live a life that will give us a few more
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: days that we can tell you that we love you.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: We tell you how important you are to be around
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: for us every day, and most importantly, your your your

- 1:04:31Speaker 1: give to us, the life that you give to us
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: on the daily base, enables us to feel better about ourselves.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: That's what you do, Health entertainer. I appreciate you for
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: doing and w don love that. Al right, be strong,

- 1:07:37Speaker 1: conversation my man, Raheem divan that I get it right,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: rh I get it right. Well, you know the beautiful
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: part about you and what right right now? What's c
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: the in right now during the pandemic? What's the mean?
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I'm absolutely solutely well, you know, I'm a fan of
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: what you are, what you represent, always been a believer
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: of what you do on that stage. Just starting that
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: stage first, man, because your live performances, man, keep you
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: keep your in the chair watching going he hitting every
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: note and then put your understory groove into the beat.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: How the significance of the live performers and talked to
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: us about that, man, because that is always to me,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: been a signature of Orahin. Yeah, I think that that's
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: one of the things that regardless of you know who
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: the manager is at the time, what label you on,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: you know, how successful or on the rise you are.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: That that connection that you make um as a live
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: performer with the audience is just something that it's especially experience,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: you know, it's a spiritual thing. It's it's a it's
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: a connection. Um. You know that that if you if
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: you successfully make it and you connect with that with
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: that individual or those groups of individuals, um, they become fans,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: they become you know, uh, supporters of your movement hopefully
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: you know uh exactly you know, and come and coming
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: from an independent background and grassroots background, that was something
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: earlier that I just connected with and understood. They're like, hey,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: like if you're gonna be if you know, if you're
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: pursuing this, then this is something that this is this
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: is the area where you need to really like horn
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: in or making records. That's cool. You go find records,
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: you can go create the wreckords, you can go create um,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: the marketing, you can go create these things. But that
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: that connection again that you make with the audience is
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: a direct thing, you know, um doing them. I've always
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: been that guy who was doing like the meeting greets
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: and stuff, you know, so Um, in terms of my
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: background and starting out how I started out in the
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: U Street area, you know, Northwest BC and doing the
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: open mix I learned earlier. I realized that I needed
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: to have a tangible item that you know, that the
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: ladies and a felers can take home with them, you
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: know what I mean, and something they could play. Hey,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: I like that tune. Where can I get it? You know,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: this is before the digital wage and able to just
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: kind of pull it up on your phone or you know,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: uploading to your digital platform where they can get you know,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: absorb it. So that's just became part of my quote
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: unquote hustle. Like just it just became. It just became
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: law that, Hey, whether it's one person in the room
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: or you got fifty thou people in the you know,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: in the arena, that everybody deserves the same show, everybody
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: deserves the same energy, you know. And um, it's just
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: that it's just the connection, man, It's it's kind of
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: for me. It's it's really becomes second nature, the second
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: nature thing. Um. But I never really I tried that
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: to never take it for grant or at the same time,
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: and that makes sense, well, I never I never felt
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: that way and knowing you, you know, or I should
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: run you. Whenever Steve Harvey I was ever in d C.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I I couldn't get you on air enough. You know,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: come on, come on, man, sit in there with us,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: sitting in with us, man, because I was just a
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: firm belief of you. But you know you. I made
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: note of your incredible live performing skills. I'm speaking to Rouvon,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: you know, to the DC area, but global talent, singer, performer, poet.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: I'd like to believe um the pandemic hit. You know,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Comedic friends of mine couldn't tour, Musical friends of minds
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: couldn't tour because you make your money performing live. And
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: how did that? How did that handle? How did it
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: affect you? And then your bandmates? How did that? How
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: did you? How did that? How does that situation played
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: out when it first shut down the country and playing
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: out now, I'll be honest with you, like I kind
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: of you know you always heard the whispers of these times,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: you know, the times that we live in, you know,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: other it's from the biblical standpoint or just a common
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: sense standpoint. So from me personally, I hit the ground running.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I kind of I've always been Um, I've been an
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: independent artist for the chen years and make it look easy,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: you know, if it's if it's if it's a situation
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: where I've had to spend my last to kind of
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: flip or to make to make it work. You know. Uh,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: it's pretty much like my from conception like the music
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: to what happens on stage. Um and having a very
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: small team and individuals that I trust they can you know,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: that can help me bring my vision a light of course.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: But you know when this happened, I just really I
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: started to kind of educating myself. Okay, well what are
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: the digital platforms? What how? The first thing I had
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: to ask myself is how I'm prepared my How I'm prepared?
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Am I for this moment right now? Meaning like you know,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: if if I could, if I couldn't leave this house.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: You know, I got my studio set up, They've got
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: my DSL lines, who I happen? You know, that's technology
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: that you know, the internet, uh provider can service provider
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: can provide you know. UM. So so I kind of
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: like jumped into that, uh, into that arena, and you know,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: and I quickly realized, like you need to upraise some
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: things you know you've been too depending on certain things.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: And yeah, so I so I really dug into with that.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: I mean, of course, like definitely taking a huge uh
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: financial hit on the shows and the concerts, um and
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: the touring and stuff for that nature. But I just
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: I just really remain organic and and and and creating
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: activities for myself. Um the love the Love King Quarantine,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I'll call it um And definitely for that for that
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: first eight weeks, like I mean, I put myself on
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: the schedule and the regiment and just you know and
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: really connected with the fans and you know, around taking
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: care of the day to day things that you know,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: dealing with the fan and the adjustment of it all.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: And and it kind of gave me something that even
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: now gives me something to uh to look forward to,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: you know and to because you gotta keep that audience going.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: You gotta keep you, you gotta keep the connection going.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: It is a job, you know, as much as I
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: love what I do, and you have to maintain you
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: create this brand and then out the blue they tell
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: you you can't step on stages anymore. Just the list
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: of things that we that we kind of restricted and
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: constricted June so I had to. I had to do,
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: you know, creatives. I think that that's where you know,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: the hustler comes in. Um that, the ambition of h
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: and the curiosity. You know, it's it's a it's a
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: it's a it's a trying time. But I try to
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: find a good and everything. Absolutely, and all these programs
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: are you know that program protection pro payroll protection program
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: did that was any of that stuff an asset are
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: available to an independent artist like you who had a
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: traveling band and made you you know, you're living via
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: live and all of a sudden the American said shut
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: down was any of those? Definitely? Definitely, I mean being transparent.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: You know, I got some issues and I'm sorting out
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: with you know, of course I RS but it's it's
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: definitely it's been beneficial. Um but but but I also
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: try to make sure that it's not something that I
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: make myself like live. You know, my friend, look look
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: the cut your shot. Okay, you know I told all
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: my comedic friends. So they got a six hundred dollar
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: a week check. Go get it. Okay, you gotta go
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: get it. You gotta go get you gotta go get it.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: They make it available to you. But you know, I
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: applied for the payroll protection program. Okay, yeah, because it
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: guess what the second quarter? What no income coming. They
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: cut down advertising, media, sales and everything. You couldn't do
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: live events, you couldn't even advertise because we're no advertised advertising. Okay,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: so you know, ence shut down. A lot of major
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: events were and second and early third and so now
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: we're looking at the at the at the one as
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: a possibility. And then you hear about the Football's Pack
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: five and the Power five talking about the may shift
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: all their games to the spring. So it's so much uncertainty.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: And then but Jen, you still have to be right,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: You still have to be the Poe. You still have
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: to you know, stand forward and stand straight and be
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: a leader during these pandemic times. And when I say that,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: you you you know, this has been an amazing years
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: for as incredible deaths. I consider the death of the
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: sudden death of Kobe Bryant to be, you know, world shattering,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: and then the the the basic murder of George Floyd
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: in front of the nation's eyes. And eight minutes, ever lower,
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: eight minutes, how has that, how has that affected you
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: as a musical artist, as a family man, you know,
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: a leader in this country and being a man of color.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: It's just sexually fremendously. I mean the good, the good
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: in it is that my my way, My mind works
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: in the way and wired like it's it's you know,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: every day wake up trying to thinking, you know, thuls
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: being thankful, And I say, what are trying to be
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: alive with the time to being you know when I
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: say that, um, it's kind of like you know what
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: a trying to be in love with the things that
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: you love, you know, whether that's my spiritual aspect um,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: still being in tune with what your art. You know.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I heard some artists like the interviews or like saying
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: like like slat out, like they can't even create right.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: It's been a total of you know what I mean,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Like I got records coming out, my new single which
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: Marvin used to say it's old, and Marvin Gaye is
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: speaking about everything that I've seen, you know, in my
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: in my journey you know, uh after things that we
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: see now, you know, it's a lot going on just
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: just in my city, you know, in d c Um
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: this past Saturday they had a drive block where almost
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: thirty people were shot. It's people dying like daily, like
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Um, just just on top
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: of everything else going on in the middle of a
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: pandemic um you know, understanding where the economy is. It's
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: kind of like it's like, wow, these are the things
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: that Marvin talked about, you know, and it's amazing, amazing. Yeah,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: there's far too many of of you dying, you know. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: and it's it's but yeah, and it's deep because you know,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: I'm one of those people that feel like history repeats
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: it so I just really repeat itself right before our
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: eyes and so so. So you said you're single. Is
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: it out now? It actually drops on for this moment. Okay, okay, okay,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: now let's go down. Now you gotta come to me now. Okay, Now,

- 1:20:16Speaker 1: money making conversations. I'm your host, Sean McDonald. So let's
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: talk about that single. Let's talk about this single. You
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: know you mentioned Marvin Gaye. You meant, you know, you
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: know that mercy, mercy, what's going on? Uh? Those those
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: those songs resonate today. There was about the Vietnam War
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: that he did the talking about you still talk about
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: the injustice in the streets all that period. You had
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: John Carlos and Tommy Smith. You know, just seeing now
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: these marches and then like you're talking about, then then
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: these out of control levels of violence and just not
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: just in Chicago, but happening all over this country. And
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: guess who'll becoming a victim? African Americans? Yeah, you sit
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: down right, hei, what comes out of you? What? What
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: just the direction of your What message are you trying
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: to say in your music? Now? Man? So you know,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: of course, like the mother used to say, record is coming,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's it's more old to you know,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: speaking on you know, whether you're talking about COVID nineteen.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: You talk about um the climate of you know, where
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: it is to be a black man in this country
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: after you know, all out of all and women, the
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: things that we've accomplished, you know, on this planet in
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: a very short amount of time. You know that I've
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: been here, that we've been here, you know, and it's
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: still see um how prevalent um and detrimental um white
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: supremacy is and also a social classic supremacy, you know
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: what I mean, because you know, like the ministers says
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Fai Kime said, you know, and peous um times when
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: he's spoken, is that like you know, all black folks
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: ain't good, All white folks ain't bad, you know what
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: I mean? And you know what I mean. So it's
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: like when you really when you really, when you really pinpointed,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: you know, and I just kind of feel like the
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: world is in a place where it boils down. You
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: just have two sets of people. You've got people that
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: are loving. You've got people that are uh carry that
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: um that want to see change and you know, across
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: the gamut you know, and and and and do their
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: part um. And then you have people that absolutely give
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: zero you know, as you don't. I don't want to
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: use fanis Union show, but they really give zero percent
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: concerned to the things that are going on, you know,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: very true. And when you say that, so you know
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: we're talking about you Love Life Foundation, that's when they started, correct, Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: I had been called on to do a number of
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: different things, primarily in the domestic violence sector in the past,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: feeding the homeless, um, any number of things that affect
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: us as people lack and brown color, you know, first
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: and foremost in the in the cities. And I decided
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: around fourteen and to start my start my foundation and
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Love Life Foundation. UM. Some of the most recent work.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: I mean, when Kobe broke out, UM, I had an
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: opportunity to to to even serve being a service to
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: the to the first responders, UM, the nurses and the doctors,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: you know, providing home cook meals for them, you know,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: as they worked around the clock to fight COVID. So
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: that was one of one of the campaigns that we
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: did over the you know, the first um nine weeks. Uh.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Then of course, when you know, after the after the murder,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: uh um a brother, and and and and the and
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: the uprisings that were taking place, we had to kind
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: of slow down on that because in certain places just
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: wasn't safe. UM and and what was dope. I mean
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: we had women like on the front line and we're
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: cooking the food, delivering it, you know, risking their life
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: to deliver it, UM to the hospitals. Want to give
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: a big shout out to h Alma's Catering and some
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: of our other you know partners with the Love Life
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Foundation here in the city. But if it's Baltimore, DC, Virginia,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: we over the last man ten weeks, we serviced um
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: any number of like first responders, nurses, doctors, people at
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: the testing sites you know, UM as well as as
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: well as those are this place right now because it's
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: you know, we're doing food banks most recently UM as well,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: you know, trying to just provide fresh fruits and vegetables
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: for local families and stuff here with some of the
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: farmers and partner with them. So farmers just local Yeah,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: just local farmers. They want to lend a hand. Um.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: You know. Prior to COVID, UH, there was a school
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: I adopted in southeast where we have a program along
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: with Marketer's Table, um My Foundation and a few other
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: organizations on the ground where we provide fresh fruits and
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: vegetables as well as um uh you know, we have
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: chefs come in and show them how to how to
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: make the smoothies and just healthy options, alternatives for the
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: youth and for the families. Uh, you know, how to.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I go to the school once a month, you know,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: when I'm in town, and you know, you get on
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: the first name basis with the kids. Then you know,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: in Southeast it's a really cool experience. Things like that
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I missed, you know what I mean, because of course,
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: you know, schools to shut down. Um, you don't even
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: cool going back into the fall. And that's that's the
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: sad part about it, because we know when I when
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: I hear our online education, and you know who that's
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: gonna affect. It's gonna be people of color because it's hard. Man.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: We don't have the WiFi, we don't have the laptops
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: of the tablets to be able to if we do
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: have it. You know, we don't have the parental structure
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: because our parents are probably going to be working. Their
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: parents are probably gonna be working during the day, so
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: they don't have them away. They come home fatigue. It's
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: just it's just it's just a not a winning situation
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: that we have to stay on top of and like that.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: So when I hear you talk about your love life foundation,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: I have to go, man, this is this is this
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: is this is awesome. Well what could I do to help?
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: You know, you guys taking donations or what's going on there? Right? Oh? Definitely, yeah,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: we're constantly taking donations. Um, And like I said, with
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: the donations, we do a number of things. Um, the
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Text School Scholarship Fund, which we assist students and have
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: been assistant students for the last six years with the
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: paying for their books and supplies for the first year
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: of college. UM. I have a heavy I'm heavily involved
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: in fighting domestic violence. I'm heavily involved and uh, you know,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: to fight against sex trafficking, you know, and because that's
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: kind of gets sex track of the you know, domestic
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: violence makes the headline. The sex trafficking kind of kind
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: of gets brushed aside because it's kind of like that
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: bad word. You know. Yeah, we know it's happening, but
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: you know, we don't want to talk about it because
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: you know, these are young girls who disappear. Yeah, young
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: girls and young men, you know what I mean, right,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: And and it's it's it's uh, you know, it's it's
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: it's it's quietly a billion dollars business, you know what
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: I mean. Just just know, no difference than slavery or
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: anything else, you know. And and and it just kind
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: of continues to happen and go under the radar, you know.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: And um, so we have to definitely, as you know,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: as individuals, as men, as black men, you know, we
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: have to you know, you have to do a better
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: job of protecting our women, I children, you know, um,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: not only in this country but on the planet. Me personally,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: I feel like black women is the most disrespecting on
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: the planet, like period. Uh, you know, and and and
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: you know, so I've always, um tell my best to
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: do my part, you know, lyrically on the record. You know,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: that's a conscious decision to make a record like Woman,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: you know, when everybody else is going against the grain
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: and calling the women are different kind of other things
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: in the records, you know, which is really really really incredible.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Now I'm shifting gears because I'm going back to this
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: song that's you're dropping on August now because I'm here
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: all this community involvement. I'm here all this time. I'm
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: sure you got pictures. I'm sure you got video. Is
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: that gonna be part of the video that's gonna drop
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: with it? Or you've got something else playing with that? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: right now, I see that, right, you know, I'm like,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: give my hands and if you can't do it, just
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: give me some photos. Brothers, I can put something together
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: for you. Oh no, I got, I got, I got.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: I definitely had some stuff on the way on the
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: planet that's begun for that. Ironically, you know, uh, the
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: march on Washington is on the right. Yeah. So I've
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: been on the fence about getting footage and then putting
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: out the video you know, in the in the weeks
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: to follow, which I may go that route. Um. Ironically,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: I had a photo shooting some conscient stuff, um last
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: night that I was doing because I'm also a part
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: of the initiative for stopping frisk and some laws that
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: are being um you know, presented to Congress uh in
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: a few weeks, and so I'm excited about that. So
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: we kind of killed two birds in one stone and
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: got the content and the essays for that, and then
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: to turn into a photo shoot for the album which
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: is titled with the Time to Be in Love and um,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: you know, wrapping up mixes and stuff like that. Just
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: recorded a record card, Um, Lord Help Me, which is
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: what is inspired by old Donny Hathaway record Um that
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: was titled the same And it's kind of like, you know,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: just I mean, like some of the lyrics help me
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: that Lord help me. Come on, I say, I say,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: I say, I've seen babies. I've seen Babi's gun down
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: by drop by another hashtag, seen another mama cras. It
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: seems like everything the birth of a nation, you've been
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: treated less a day and denied reparations. It makes me
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: want to flip it. Trapping with my voter. I call
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: it politricks disrespect U. I write with the stop the
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: friss and killed the black Man and the story six
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: a sign of the times, the market of piece until
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: let's justice will be no peace? Oh lort high help me?
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: Oh lor no lor h. It's that in the water
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: and pull out the clouds. No resession and depression on
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: the planets on the ride. But I feel your presence,
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: so I'm staying faithful. Yeah, So that's like the vibe whoa,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: come on, come on, it's like, it's like a conversation
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: with It's like a conversation with God, you know what
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: I mean, like because you got to have those right now,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: you know, you know, it's more importantly the beauty the
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: genius of you. I'm gonna throw that into the conversation
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: because I've always been a big fan. I sit back
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: and I know I'm talented, and I look at other
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: people that, but I can never do you. I can
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: never be raheed, you know, I can never be a
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: skilled guy who just just just lyrically just threw it
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: out there, just open your old on this show and
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: expose those raw nerves that drive you that they emote
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: from your spirit to say, you know, you can bring
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: us to tears because you're telling the truth. But then
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: it's the business side. Now you got a new position
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: as an a R and the director correct at the
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: labor talk about that, let's let's let's do let's close
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: out on the business side because it just was a
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: nice journey. Man. You know, I'll tell yourself right, we're
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: back in the saddle. Man, don't you don't you don't
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: you let this be no another ten years? Brother, man,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: you're gonna fight you're gonna fight, no fight, no, no,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: no no, I won't. I promise, I won't, I promise,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: I want. I'm excited that we connect with you. You know, yeah,
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: so so so Uh. It's just crazy, man, because it's
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: come full circle. And I think that that's something that
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: people gotta understand in business, that things do come from
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: full circle. And it's like, you gotta remain humble, you
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: gotta you gotta take every experience as a learning experience
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: so that it's because it's preparing you for something. Now. Ironically,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: in two thousand and five, the first tour that I
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: ever did was with new edition Dirty Cities Blah mcknighte
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: um God Blessed Soul geral LeVert was on a few
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: days as well. And and now and now I'm I'm
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: ahead of A and R. The label which is s
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: R G I L s UM out of connect based
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: out of Connecticut. You back then, you know, we're backed
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: by Universal and they took an interest in me just
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: as an artist and started out um on that on
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: that vibe, and it quickly kind of morph organically into
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: other things. You know, um Be being ambitious and wanted
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: to have artists and careers and you know artists that
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: I was involved in, whether it was from a man
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: managing standpoint or mentorship standpoint, I've always had had interest
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: in and and being like behind the scenes on the
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: music scene for the for with with the intention of
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: like preserving the culture for the type of music that
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: I'm making. And they're like that I enjoyed or that
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: we enjoyed, you know what I mean. So I've always
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: fought for that, and I figured, like what better way
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: to do that? You know, sometimes you just pouring to
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: yourself if the blessing just comes from actually like pointing
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: to other people and being part of other projects and
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: you know, giving it having that opinion, you know. Um
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: and uh so you know they brought me on board. Um,
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: you know, shout out to my labelmates, Brian McKnight, Uh,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: Route trash Vant Uh is that we got We just
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: sounded out for over there. It's got a new single
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: out just doing extremely well. Um. We got Johnny gil
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: over there, who was on Rolph's new new new single. Uh.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: And it's crazy again because when I talk about new audition,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: like I said, these guys, you know, being on tour
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: with somebody for thirty cities, you become like family that
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: become like mentors. You learn, you learn a lot. You know, Um,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: Havan is over there as well, a Vivian Green quame.
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: We got a lot of great music, um, you know,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: coming come coming out. Gene over Nelly is over there
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: as well. So you know, somebody like him, somebody like
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: him to have like to be able to talk on
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: you know, jump on the horn or it's on any
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: given day, were on, were on the checks to chain
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: texts of messages where it's like over Nelly, you know
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: that the owner of the label you don't see I
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: talked to day Yeah yeah, yeah, so dope, yeah, dope,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: don't you know, don't produce is Tim Kelly, like you know,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: So it's it's it's, Um, it's very surreal for me.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: You know, it's a very new situation. I'm learning. Um,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: you know, it's it's and it's about building this company
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: up and knowing that you know, I have some long
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: term equity in it, you know, and that you know,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: prayerfully we looked back ten fitching years from now and say, wow,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: I was part of something that was like it was
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: dope I learned. You know, it's retirement. You think about retirement,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So, and I never stopped
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: making music, but it's just, you know, just just a
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: different mindset. Appreciate you. I'm talking to the number one
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: male independent Urban A c artists of the year in
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: ten according to Media Base. Raheim von my Friend August
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: twenty eight. That's when the single drops. You've got to
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: get that stuff to me before then. And guess what
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: this relationship man just got reunited. Man, We're about to
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: make some history in the third and fourth quarter. All right,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: we'll be right back with more from Marsa McDonald and
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: money making conversations don't touch that down. Oregan donations save lives,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: and some organs can even be donated by a living donor.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: August is National Minority Donor Awareness Months. So let's check
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: in with Dr Denay Simpson, Assistant Professor of surgery at
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Northwestern Medicine, tell us about the African American Transplant Access Program.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: So this is my baby. This is a program that
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: I have dreamt about creating since I became interested in
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: transplant as a trainee, and it's a program designed to
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: address the significant disparities that are African American patients space.
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: The program is designed to educate patients about transplant, let
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: them know what transplant can provide to them, and to
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: help them access the resources that they find so scarce
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: and so challenging to access in order to get them
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: on the transplant path and back to, you know, some
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: type of meaningful life. For more information, visit n M

- 1:37:31Speaker 1: front door, strong with a double armed kid carry. Looks
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: like dad has the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh,
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: but the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect car seat
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: looks to be about nine or ten, has secured herself
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: in the booster seat. Dad zips the bad clothes and
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: they're off. Ah, but looks like Mom doesn't realize her
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: coffee cup is still the roof of the car and
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: there it goes. Oh, that's a shame that mug was

- 1:39:58Speaker 1: to build your brand, and I'm seeing it evolved. Tell
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: us the steps that you put in place to make
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: this happen for me? You know what I will tell
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: you this when it comes to brand building, you know,
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: I've been working on that for some years now, um,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: and what I've learned. I've had some ups and downs,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: you know, some trial and errors when it's come to that.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: But what I've learned is that it's important to have
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: a team, right, a team of people who first of
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: all believe in you. Because when somebody believes in you,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: then they're willing to put in as much work as
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: you to make sure you get to where you're trying
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: to go. So you got to find people who believe
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: in you, who believe in what you're trying to do, UM,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: and just surrounding yourself with people who are like minded. UM.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: You know, recently on last Saturday's episode, you guys got
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: to see our team right, and so on one side
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: of the table you had three people from L A M.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: Who are part of our branding team. And on another
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: side of the table, you had Alabama natives who are
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: based right here out of Birmingham and they're part of
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: our branding team. So we have people you know, who
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: believe in us, who's worked with us for a while now,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: and who are pushing for it to make sure that
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: we get to the girls who we're trying to get to.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: So when it comes to branding, UM, it's all about
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: having the right team and the right people in your corner.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: Hands down, we know, like that's that's important because like
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: my name is on the usual Rashan Rashan McDonald's my name,
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: and so when when people say it, you know, always
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: always get a kick out of it. Because of the
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: fact that that means that my message is getting out
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: there about me. But more importantly when you say you
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: have a team in l a which I love, and
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: then you have a team in Alabama, which means that
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: that keeps it more authentic because they kind of know
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: the lifestyle because everybody. I hate when people come in
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: the room and go, I know, you know you don't
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: you just seen me on TV Fact Fact and like
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: you're saying, you know, those the people who understand, those
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: grass roots, who understand Alabama history, Alabama heritage, and how
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: you can pull those things in together. And then some
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: of my team, like I said, they're, you know, right
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: from Birmingham, So in terms of that whole piece of
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: history when it comes to the civil rights, when it
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: comes to UM Birmingham Staffle, I mean all of that,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: and I'm being able to find ways to pull me
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: in with that. I mean, it's been amazing. So I'm
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: so thankful. I thank God every day for the amazing
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: people He's put around me. For sure. Now let's talk
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: about that, because you said something interesting. This is I'm
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: really you know something. I love talking to you because
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: the energy is there and I know you're hidden in
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: the direction that you have a plan for. Like you said, Rishan,
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: this didn't start with with with this this reality show.
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: I was hitting down this direction all along, and I
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: just this is really accelerated it absolutely absolutely, So what
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: is your brain? What brand are you trying to design?
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Like I said earlier, let me just say what I said.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: I said the wife mother for entrepreneur, uh master classes
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: on Instagram and cloud, social media influencer. What is your brain?
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: If you're trying to be yes and all of that
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: is a part of my brand. You know who I am, UM,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: what I pushed for, what I advocate for, UM, being
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: a mom, being a wife, being UM, still being able
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: to be a boss and at the same time time
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: empowering others, UM, specifically for me as women, UM, finding
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: ways to empower others. So you know, I have my
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: massive class that I do where I'm actually right now
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: doing live series where I'm getting free knowledge and free
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: information by bringing on guests who reached certain amounts of
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: success and their careers and their lives. Then of course
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: i have my massive class with Melody Hope Preservation Academy,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: where I'm helping people get into this multibillion dollar industry
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: called property preservation. So I have and it mostly consistent women.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: So I have women who I've helped in terms of
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: getting their e I N setting up lcs, getting business
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: checking accounts, and then ultimately getting contacts and getting work
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: orders that they're able to complete and make money. So um,
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: you know, it's one of those things where for me,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: my brand consists of you know, business. I'm a home builder,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: so being a being in business, but also being a wife,
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: being a mom, and also helping others and bringing them
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: along on their journey. Now, this is really important that
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: we are the reason I wanted to bring on the
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: show because we all know TV, they get in the
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: editing room, they tell a story they want to take
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: off for ratings. You know it can it could be annoying.
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: It could be a very annoying to you Saturday night
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: after the air. So it could be they said, because
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: you know that can reflect on what people think. Okay,
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: and live in the reflection. Okay, you are an attractive
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: or beautiful woman and you are in ma. You need
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: to stop, you need to stop. You know you you
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: know you you know you got it going over four kids,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: don't look like you have one child? I'm gonna stop
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: stop stop, and so so and so and then and
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: then the reason when I saw the when I saw
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: the series, the master Class series, that's the side that
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I'm bringing it on the show to talk about, you know,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: not any any picture because of the fact that you
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: know your your your your attractiveness, and the reality show
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: who you really are can get lost and you're lost
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: in your gain and knowing you is that you are
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: an empowering person. You bought uplifting people, and you're about
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: allowing women, especially entrepreneur why women an opportunity to be successful?
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, And that's important. It's about and
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: that's why I wanted to bring your class. So let's
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: talk about Let's go back to the first, you know,
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: fingering their file before we get to the skincare and
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: these other things. Okay, let's you know home, because you
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: do about I'm gonna Last time I was talking to you,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: you wasn't talking this fast. You had that you had
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: that little southern drawl down pat. Now you all New York,
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: New York, kissing everything, talking fast and just everyone. No,
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: I'm not I'm gonna yes, you know, I'm let me
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: tell you I have had to learn to talk. Let's
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: go down. Then I have learned to talk fast only
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: because I'm always doing a million different things, right, so
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: I'm used to getting in and getting it out. Let's go,
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: let's move okay, and what's net So you know what,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: I appreciate that. So almost slow it down? How about
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: slow down? Slow it down? Slow it down to the
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: don't slow it down because I'm to yourself, if I'm
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: in a Ferrari, I don't want to drive in the
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: volks what. I don't want Volkswagen speed and I want
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: Ferrari speed because you're a Ferrari right now. You know
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: I met you you as a port Now you're a Ferrari.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: You know you out you don't get you, You're Ferrari. Now,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: now let's talk about this Ferrari, this masterclass. How did
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: this idea come up? And each one? That's what I love.
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: See Sometimes I get mad at you. I go, what
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: a great idea? Because right there, because right there you
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: have the title of what that class is about, under
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: each each each date in the photo. Now let's talk
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: about this because you talk about you have a team
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: in Atlanta, a team and in Alabama in the South
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: and the West, you got Hollywood West and the southeast.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: You got all this going on, got good food, you
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: got your your budding story. Can't go on the grocery
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: store with our people. Look thank god for facial mask
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: because now you can go on the grocery store and
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: shop girls on the day. So let's let's talk about this,
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: the incubating and the development period of the master class
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: that's on your Instagram account. Absolutely So let me tell
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: you again, this goes back to having an amazing team. Right.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: So my graphic person who's a part my team, has
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: been working with for sometime now. You know he handles
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: my website, handles my flyers, um, all of that, and
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: everyone who's around me or works with me knows. Look,
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: I'm not one of those people who feel like I
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: know everything. I make it clear to them. If y'all
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: have an idea, if you have a suggestion, or if
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I'm giving out an idea that you just think it's
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: crap and no good, like, feel free to talk to
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: me like we we just have all of us have
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: that kind of open to me. You have some people
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: who are in charge who don't think anybody can tell
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: them any saying, or they don't want anybody to go
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: against what they say. My team knows that's not me,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: so they are all very comfortable with sharing ideas with me. Right.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: So one story short, UM, my graphic person, UM, we
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: were working on something that he was like, you know what,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: he was like, what do you think about? UM? I
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: think it would be a good opportunity for you to
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: do something where you're actually doing like a class. So
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: it started from there. Um, we went into conversation. Then
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: they go to a what am I an exfort in? Well,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: I'm an expert in what I've been doing the past
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: ten years. What I've been doing the past teen years
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: as being in this what has been a male dominated SRA,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: white male dominated industry for a very long time called
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: property preservation. And that's what I've been able to do
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: for ten years. That's what allowed me to resign from
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: teaching UM after three years and has ultimately allowed me
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: to be a sole entrepreneur UM so as my only
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: source of income. So I say, so entrepreneurs. So you know,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: it's one of those things where it was like, Okay,
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: that's what I'm an expert in, and that's the game
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I'm about to teach. So hence came the Master Class
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: with Melody or Whole Preservation Academy idea. And so under
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: Master Class with Melody, you have the Whole Preservation Academy,
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: which is where I teach about property preservation. I've had
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: about fifty students go through my class so far. UM.
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: It has been amazing. They all get a personal touch
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: for me, have Zoom meetings. I have one tonight. I
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: have Zoom meetings with them on Monday night. UM usually
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: last an hour to an hour and a half. They
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: all get my personal cell number, so I'm communicating with
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: them through the week via text, via phone UM. And
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: it's definitely very personable, very personal, and very one on one.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: So I've got about Like I said, I'm on my
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: second class right now. So I've had a total about
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: fifty students go through my class. And then UM, I
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: decided from there, I wanted to do something UM that
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: was kind of more regular and for anybody who's interested
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: in anything about business, not just property preservation. So I
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: put together this Instagram life series. So we've had Mr
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Donahue Baker and Donahue Baker he was with me last week.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: We discussed, um, you know, different ways to get funding,
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: how to own UM multiple he has like over five
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: hundred units that he that he owns, so you know,
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: just different ways that you can make money and use
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: money to capitalize and make more money. UM. Then we've
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: got Mr O'Neill Parker who's coming in on tomorrow, twenty
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: six years old, owns over two million and in real
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: estate UM and it's being on investing, so we've got
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: him coming in. Then we've got Duane Youl Wilkerson who's
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: going to talk about turning your talent into profits. UM.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: Cassidy Shepherd UM who's also part of my PR team.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: She's going to come in and talk about your business
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: is your brand? So giving tips and things for people
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: who are trying to build a brand. And then we
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: have Misterical Harwell, who is the guru when it comes
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: to business credit and personal credit. She's going to come
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: in and talk about that. So again free information, free knowledge,
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: free gyms being dropped for people you know who are
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: trying to still make twenty twenty. Make sure we're still
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: sharpening our vision in twenty to fight all the upset
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: that we've had this year. Okay, now is this gonna
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: become a YouTube channel? Because that's where I feel it
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: should go. You know that's what you feel was you
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: know why? Um I like that idea, So you dropped
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: an idea on me. I'm just telling you just the
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: beauty of what you're doing. Okay. First of all, you know,
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: you know you have a style. You know the fashion
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: line companies. It's like, I'm just coming because I'm looking
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: at this. I'm looking at this. Uh the little bird
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: he has you know what I'm saying. They have the
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: scarf in the pocket. You know what I'm saying. You
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: know this, this is this is dropping knowledge with with
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: with was was styped what I'm saying. You know, you
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: know you're like, there's like the Steave Harvey, you know,
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: a visionary for that generation right there that you know
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: he's passed, but you're about to pick him up and
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: take it on to the Finnish slide and throw that
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: touchdown shoulder because style, because this is what I love
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: about you. Okay. First of all, you do not deny
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: that your mom and you're committed to being a mom. Okay.
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: And that's what and that's where the modern day, especially
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: black women need to see that. Guess what, And that's
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: why I wanted you on the show to tell your story.
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: No no, no, no, no no. This is start with
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: loving marriage Huntsville. That was part of the mission. Okay,
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: that was part of the plan. She loved Marriage Huntsville
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: is just part of It's more like, you know, you
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: you look at your chart and you have all these
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: options of what you can do, and you put this
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: on the sheriff as an opportunity. It happened, and you're
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: gonna move forward because of the fact that you you've
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: told me Richard, when you're not gonna get together, because
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: of the fact that you know there are the other
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: options that you want to do besides that. You I
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: see talk show and I go, okay, if you're preparing
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: with this Instagram Instagram, people can't find that. But you
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: can do this on a YouTube channel and you can
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: build subscribers and then you become a phenomenon. And that's
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: why I want to take that out of I wanted
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: That's what I had to do with my Money Making
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: Conversation platform. I was all on social media and then
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: when I opened my Money Making Conversation YouTube channel, it
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: really showed me who I was. And because a lot
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: of people think I'm a baker. They see all those
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: cakes and everything, but when they go over their money
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: making conversation, that's who I am and they respect that. Now,
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: when I see you doing these master classes, if you
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: start setting up your YouTube channel, when they go over there,
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: they know that has nothing nothing to do with with
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: with with anything else but making people better, and especially
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: women of color, they can be better if they follow
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: your advice. And that's why I recommended each one of
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: these classes should be put over there, because what happens
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: is as you start building momentum and YouTube, every time
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: you upload a new show, and alert goes out to
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: your fan base that's on YouTube, and you should do that.
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: You gotta do that. You gotta do that. And so
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: this is just a shortly a short five week series, right, Um, yes,
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: well it's it's actually two weeks, so it's not a
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: personal week. I've got two people coming on this week,
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: two people coming on next week, and then I'm going
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: to launch another series with another, um you know, different guests.
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: But I appreciate and I'm thankful for everything you said,
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: and I'll definitely take that to my team. UM, I
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: do have a YouTube channel already. I just haven't been
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: uploading this content to it, UM, but I appreciate that
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: because that's an amazing idea. UM. And I think that
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: one thing I want to harphone that you mentioned was
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: about being able to do a lot even though your mom. Um.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: That's one thing, to be honest that I want people
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: to know is that, you know, mom, you can still
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: be an awesome mom and still go after your dreams
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: and goes at the same time too. Is it gonna
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: be easy? No, it is does make it a little
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: more difficult, but it's possible. I literally just had my
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: baby in my hand and my phone in the other hand,
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: in my laptop sending my lap Yeah, I mean, if
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: you're right. So you know, it's kind of one of
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: those things where you just do what you have to do,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: UM and make no excuses, because there there are no excuses.
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: Even with all my kids. You know, I can remember, um,
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: my first daughter, Mariah, because we kept her at home
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: for like a year before we actually put her in daycare,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: and so I can remember taking her to the office
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: with me, UM, having a playpen. There's an office for her. Like,
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: you just make it happen, you know, you do what
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: you have to do. To make it happen. So you know,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: to all the moms out there, the hard working moms,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: I want you guys to know, like, hey, keep pushing.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: You can do it. Um, So what if you don't,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: if you don't have a big support system, So what
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: don't let that be an excuse. Figure it out, make
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: it happen. And that's what I'm all about, is making
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: it happen. She is a former middle school teacher and
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: entrepreneurs sought after speaker. You just heard the talk, man.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: You know, I could just like just shut up. I
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: could ask you by folk questions. She's taken about twenty
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: minutes of my good time. That's how good she is.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: Like her, I just I just say something. I just
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: I just brilliantly say I ask you a question, and
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: you just articulated. And I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: And you know, I'm just being I just like to
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: keep it real. I'm very straightforward. I'm very you know,
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: undest and direct. And you know, it's one of those things,
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: like you said, it's not easy, but it's possible. And
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: of course with God, all things are possible. To remind
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: yourself where your strength and where your help comes from
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: and I say this all the time. God is my source. Man,
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: it's not my source. God is my source. God is
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: my source of my strength. God is my source of
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: my faith. God is my source of my money. God
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: is my source. UM. So you have to just remind
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: yourself of that. Um. And you know, while you're working
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: hard as a female and you're trying to make these moves. Also,
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: I believe, and you're feeling good about yourself and you're
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: feeling like, you know, you're happy with what you wake
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: up and see in the mornings when you look in
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: the mirror, which is hint why I created Embraced Beauty.
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: With your stop stop stop. You saw she just transitions.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: She didn't even let me ask the question. And that's
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: why you would look good. And that's why, and that's
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: why I created Embraced Beauty and Premier Scheme CareLine coming soon.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: The line of products include cleans and tonetions and not
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: with you my God. You ask me. It's a pen y'all, y'all,
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: and I'm doing it. I don't know what y'all doing,
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: but I'm telling you what I'm doing. I am generating revenue.

- 1:57:55Speaker 1: But you know that that's why, that's why it's important,
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: Melody that you I'm telling because because you're my feet
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: on my on my Instagram. So I popped you your
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: pop photo pop up and go, you're just doing it.
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: Look at you. She is over there just posing and
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: just just leaving people. Your your engagement and you become
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: a social media for now, we're gonna get back to
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: the embraced. Don't worry about that. You know, but but
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: but but embraced is tied to the brand that you created,
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: especially in social media. I got the I got the
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: you know, the love and the Love and Marriage hunt
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: Field Show. But did you expect the engagement and the
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: growth and social media that you've gotten? Um? I don't
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: feel like I had any expectations when it came to
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: the you know, because I wasn't doing it. The things
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: that I've done, I wasn't doing them, um thinking of like,
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: oh is this gonna makes me more popular? Of this?
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: I just believe in doing what I feel like it's
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: my purpose and whatever happens happened. So I tell people
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: I never have been one of the chase for celebrity. However,
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: is celebrity ends up with my purpose, then so be it.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: Um So for me, it was always me chasing my vision,
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: my purpose, and my goals. Um So, definitely that's a
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: plus now that I do have. It has allowed me
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: to be able to reach more people, to have a
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: bigger audience, and ultimately be able to share my story
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: and my life experiences while encouraging people along the way.
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: That's a major plus for me. But it was never
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: the end goal for me, if that makes sense. Absolutely.
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: What I like about you is that you know you
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: you learned to pivot. You see an opportunity, you flesh
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: it out, and you you seize it. But he sees
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: with a plan that way that that the like you
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: told earlier in the conversation, you usually limited roar. I failed,
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: you know, but I don't let that fair stop me
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: from being successful. I learned from it. So now so
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: now let's get back to Embrace. Because I pulled up
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: the website. See see I had to get I got
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: I used get a little conversation right there. So I
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: get back ahead of the creer with this conversation about
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: the embraced, embraced, beauty foam, embraced beauty, toner body, butter,
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: beauty body. Oh a moisturizer comming to the body coming
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: and a little private comming to let's talk about this embracetion.
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: You're beautiful. I love this. You're beautiful, embrace it come
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: on absolutely, so you know, UM, thank you so much.
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: I mean, I just a wow. I appreciate you allow
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: me to share, you know, my info on your platform.
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: Thank you so much for that. Um. So really was
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: when I was growing up, I suffered from something called
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: pitty riots is rosation, which is pretty much just a
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: dry rash. So um, you know, it was something I
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: used to complain about and so my actually my great
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: grandmother share with me a secret um of something to
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: use to help me. UM when I would have these breakouts,
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: usually during the fall months with this petty rice is rosation.
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: So what I decided to do is, I um wanted
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: to create a skincare line that incorporated that for people
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: who have that kind of an issue or issues with
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: dry skins. So I do have and of course I
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: do aligne so I'm always having to have my face
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: beat and makeup on. However, I've always been adamant on
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: making sure that underneath that that my skin is still glowing,
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: that my skin is still healthy, because your skin is
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: the largest piece of your body, so you got to
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: take care of it. Um. So for me, for me,
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: I UM just definitely said, you know, I want to
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: put these things together along with the things my great
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: grandmother has shared with me and put it into a product.
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: So I have a cleanser. Um. It's really um, to
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: be honest, it's what. It's a everyday regiment that you
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: can use as a cleanser, a toner moisturizer than a
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: lip primer, which of course you would put your lip
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: primer on before you put on your you know, lip
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: gloss or lipstick or things of that nature. Um. And
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: so that has been amazing. UM. I actually premiered it
- 2:01:40Speaker 1: on the show earlier. We filmed it, I think the
- 2:01:43Speaker 1: first part in the January, right before the pandemic. UM.
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: And then for me being pregnant, of course, when you're pregnant,
- 2:01:50Speaker 1: you have if your skin, you have dry skin and
- 2:01:53Speaker 1: things like that. So when I was pregnant, I went
- 2:01:55Speaker 1: ahead and got with my chemists, which I'm using a
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: black chemist out of Dallas, Texas, who I work with.
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: I actually met her through Marquell because she and Martell
- 2:02:02Speaker 1: went to high school together. But she has a very
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: very successful natural hair care line. So I got with
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: her and um, we came up together and put this
- 2:02:12Speaker 1: put my products together, and you know, worked for really
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: almost two years just making sure that it was the
- 2:02:16Speaker 1: way I wanted it to be. Two years too, because
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: in between of everything else that I'm doing, of course,
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: I'm always doing so many different things. So it was
- 2:02:23Speaker 1: about two years that we put in getting it the
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: way I wanted it. Um. Because I'm big on again branding.
- 2:02:29Speaker 1: Everything reflects my brand, so I gotta make sure everything
- 2:02:31Speaker 1: is top notch. We're not gonna short change things, right. Um.
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: So when I was pregnant, I came up with the
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: body lotion, the body oil, and the body but her
- 2:02:40Speaker 1: um and so that's what that's what Embrace currently consists of.
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: And I'm actually going to be having a live event
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: on social media when I'm actually gonna open the website
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: up for sales, Well, that's gonna be happening. I was
- 2:02:52Speaker 1: planning to do that by the time the episode aired
- 2:02:55Speaker 1: for the skin care line, but then the pandemic happened,
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: so things got pushed back, and you know, and then
- 2:03:00Speaker 1: of course I also have you know, my divorce happening
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: as well. THO was one of those things where I
- 2:03:05Speaker 1: just was like, okay, just hold up, let's stop for
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: a second. Um, But I'm actually going to have a
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: live event very soon. I'm going to open the site up.
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: People have the messaging me. They're waiting for it. They
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: want to get Sonna open it up and allow of
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: people to start purchasing. Well, first of all, you know,
- 2:03:21Speaker 1: there was a there was a moment of silence out
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: of respect of what you're doing. Okay, you already said
- 2:03:27Speaker 1: you you're gonna You've already gonna do a live event. Okay,
- 2:03:31Speaker 1: So that's what I'm saying. These these master classes are
- 2:03:34Speaker 1: preparing you for that live event. So what what what
- 2:03:38Speaker 1: do we get a sense of? You're gonna be like
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: a story like environment? Can people buy product online immediately
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: when you go to that live event? It will be
- 2:03:46Speaker 1: that's right? And when is the date? You have we
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: locked the date yet No, I don't have the day
- 2:03:51Speaker 1: d and yet it will probably be more in the
- 2:03:53Speaker 1: first of October range. How you know things are starting
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: to Yep, things are starting to move a little bit
- 2:03:58Speaker 1: better with COVID and the packaging and things like that,
- 2:04:02Speaker 1: because of course most of the packaging, as you know,
- 2:04:04Speaker 1: come from China or at least pieces of it, and
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: so it's just a big thing. And I didn't want
- 2:04:07Speaker 1: to be honest, I'm kind of picky, like I could
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: have changed up. To be honest, I should have changed
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: up my packaging and did a different but I'm like, no,
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: I want exactly the way I want it and that's
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: just what it is. Um So, so yeah, this is
- 2:04:20Speaker 1: what I want to give to my consumer and ain't
- 2:04:22Speaker 1: changing it. So we just don't wait, you know, it
- 2:04:24Speaker 1: was one of those things. Hello, hello, meloy, Hello, you're
- 2:04:28Speaker 1: all good? Did you win? Ain't changing it? Come on now,
- 2:04:31Speaker 1: how this beautiful articulate business woman ain't changing it? Ain't changing?
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: But don't body did my grandmama butter, y'all didn't stop
- 2:04:40Speaker 1: talking to me. Yeah, because I can do all of it.
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: I can. I can be all of those this is
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: you gotta keep be in the loop on that. We
- 2:04:48Speaker 1: we're gonna we're gonna change self numbers when it's called in.
- 2:04:50Speaker 1: But because I gotta still in touch with you. Now,
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: this this, this, this slogan of this name of your
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: beautiful embrace it embraced absolutely that so because we know
- 2:05:00Speaker 1: the M is for your first name, Melody, and then
- 2:05:04Speaker 1: so that how did that title, how did that slogan
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: come up? And how did the name of the Beauty
- 2:05:09Speaker 1: Premier skin care line come up? Man, this is so funny.
- 2:05:12Speaker 1: So one day I was literally getting my makeup done. Um,
- 2:05:15Speaker 1: I was going somewhere my makeup artists. Um, he's been
- 2:05:17Speaker 1: a makeup artists for a few years now. He was
- 2:05:19Speaker 1: on my makeup and I was telling him about my
- 2:05:21Speaker 1: skin care line and what I was working on and
- 2:05:23Speaker 1: what my plans were, and so we just started talking
- 2:05:26Speaker 1: and in that conversation we were just saying, you know, yeah, people,
- 2:05:29Speaker 1: you know, they should be able to embrace you know,
- 2:05:32Speaker 1: who they are and their skin and there. And I
- 2:05:34Speaker 1: was like, yeah, oh, you know, listen at us, you
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And we were just literally just
- 2:05:40Speaker 1: having conversations. And so, of course, all of my family's name,
- 2:05:45Speaker 1: the kids, my husband, me, we all start with an M.
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: So we always play on the M word, like there
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: did we call them the eminem kids. We always play
- 2:05:52Speaker 1: on and so um, it was just like and I
- 2:05:57Speaker 1: can play with this embrace and make this m capital
- 2:06:00Speaker 1: the lies and make this all flow the way I
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: use the life of stuff to flow. And it just
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: went from there and you know, and so it was
- 2:06:06Speaker 1: really a conversation and us talking about it, me sharing
- 2:06:08Speaker 1: my idea of my skin care line and putting it out,
- 2:06:11Speaker 1: and we're talking about how important it is for people,
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: especially you know, especially women because again, we do have
- 2:06:16Speaker 1: times when we have to be made up and look
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: to the tea and we're affected to look like a
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: pen all the time. But what do you look like
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: when you take that makeup off of your faith? And um,
- 2:06:25Speaker 1: so yeah, now you know, I gotta I gotta wrap
- 2:06:29Speaker 1: up here because I can't. I can't ruin my reputation.
- 2:06:31Speaker 1: But I wanted to talk about just you know, just
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: get your you know, when we look at what you're doing. Uh,
- 2:06:36Speaker 1: and we's so many black women are doing. We are
- 2:06:38Speaker 1: in a political season and you know, I'm encouraging everybody
- 2:06:42Speaker 1: to register to vote. You know. Uh, we we know
- 2:06:45Speaker 1: what's going on out there, but we gotta make a
- 2:06:47Speaker 1: difference and we'll see the Democratic nomin need be a
- 2:06:50Speaker 1: woman of color Kamala Harris, what are your thoughts and uh,
- 2:06:54Speaker 1: you know, and what what what are what are your
- 2:06:55Speaker 1: goals and expectations for what you're trying to do to
- 2:06:58Speaker 1: motivate the community to vote. Oh man, let me tell
- 2:07:02Speaker 1: you first of all, I think that this is amazing.
- 2:07:04Speaker 1: I mean, I shared this on an interview the other day.
- 2:07:06Speaker 1: I still remember when Obama got elected and how excited
- 2:07:09Speaker 1: I felt, and I felt like, wow, I can't do
- 2:07:11Speaker 1: anything despite the color of my skin. I remember being
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: even more excited when he got re elected, saying no,
- 2:07:16Speaker 1: waiting for them both and valid and stuff to come
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: on in and look with those numbers gonna be like
- 2:07:20Speaker 1: and he won again and it was like, oh my gosh, right,
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: that whole excitement and that feeling that a piece of
- 2:07:27Speaker 1: inspiration and encouragement. It was just so um, that's the
- 2:07:31Speaker 1: same way I feel right now, like I feel like
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: and this time because it's a woman, so even more so.
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: You know, we're spending so much time trying to break
- 2:07:39Speaker 1: that glass feeling, trying to remove certain barriers, and you know,
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: first to have for us to have a black woman
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: who has the opportunity to have the second highest position
- 2:07:49Speaker 1: in this nation, I think that is what's up and
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: that is amazing, um, you know, charring. And so what
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: I'm doing, I have certain things that I'm working on.
- 2:07:58Speaker 1: One of them, um and you guys to be seeing
- 2:08:01Speaker 1: that soon. I can't give too much information, but one
- 2:08:03Speaker 1: thing that I'm doing, I'm actually partnering with the city
- 2:08:06Speaker 1: UM here in Alabama in terms of UM increasing of
- 2:08:10Speaker 1: the census registration and working to get people out to
