- 0:00John chapter 5. After these things there was a
- 0:03feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
- 0:06Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, a pool which is
- 0:09called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticos.
- 0:13In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind,
- 0:16lame, and withered, waiting for the moving of the waters.
- 0:19For an Angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the
- 0:21pool and stirred up the water. Whoever then, first, after the
- 0:24stirring up of the water, stepped in, was made well from
- 0:27whatever disease with which he was afflicted.
- 0:30A man was there who had been ill for 38 years.
- 0:34When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already
- 0:36been a long time in that condition, he said to him, Do
- 0:40you wish to get well? The sick man answered him, Sir,
- 0:43I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred
- 0:46up, But while I am coming, another steps down before me.
- 0:50Jesus said to him, Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.
- 0:54Immediately the man became well and picked up his pallet and
- 0:57began to walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that
- 1:00day. So the Jews were saying to the
- 1:02man who was cured, it is the Sabbath and it is not
- 1:05permissible for you to carry your pallet.
- 1:07But he answered them, He who made me well was the one who
- 1:10said to me, pick up your pallet and walk.
- 1:13They asked him, Who is the man who said to you, pick up your
- 1:15pallet and walk? But the man who was healed did
- 1:17not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was
- 1:20a crowd in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the
- 1:23temple and said to him, Behold, you have become well.
- 1:26Do not sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.
- 1:30The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had
- 1:33made him well. For this reason the Jews were
- 1:35persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the
- 1:37Sabbath. But he answered them, My Father
- 1:40is working until now, and I myself am working for this
- 1:44reason. Therefore the Jews were seeking
- 1:46all the more to kill Him, because He was not, because He
- 1:53not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling
- 1:56God his own Father, making Himself equal with God.
- 1:59Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, Truly, truly, I
- 2:03say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself unless it is
- 2:06something He sees the Father doing.
- 2:08For whatever the Father does these things the Son also does
- 2:11in like manner. For the Father loves the Son and
- 2:14shows him all things that He Himself is doing, and the Father
- 2:17will show him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.
- 2:21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,
- 2:24Even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.
- 2:27For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all
- 2:30judgment to the Son, so that all will honour the Son, even as
- 2:33they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son
- 2:36does not honour the Father who sent Him.
- 2:38Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes
- 2:42Him who sent Me has eternal life and does not come into judgment,
- 2:46but has passed out of death into life.
- 2:49Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and now is when
- 2:52the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who
- 2:55here will live. For just as the Father has life
- 2:58in himself, Even so He gave to the Son also to have life in
- 3:02himself, and He gave him authority to execute judgement,
- 3:05because He is the Son of man. Do not marvel at this, for an
- 3:09hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear His
- 3:11voice and will come forth. Those who did the good deeds to
- 3:15a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to
- 3:19a resurrection of judgment. I can do nothing on my own
- 3:22initiative. As I hear, I judge, and my
- 3:25judgment is just because I do not seek my own will, but the
- 3:28will of Him who sent me. If I alone testify about myself,
- 3:32my testimony is not true. There is another who testifies
- 3:35of me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about
- 3:38me is true. You have sent to John, and He
- 3:41has testified to the truth. But the testimony which I
- 3:44receive is not from man. But I say these things so that
- 3:47you may be saved. He was the lamp that was burning
- 3:49and was shining, and you were willing to rejoice for a while
- 3:53in his light. But the testimony which I have
- 3:55is greater than the testimony of John for the works which the
- 3:58Father has given me to accomplish.
- 4:00The very works that I do testify about me, that the Father has
- 4:04sent me, and the Father who sent me, He has testified of me.
- 4:08You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.
- 4:12You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe
- 4:15Him whom He sent. You search the Scriptures
- 4:18because you think that in them you have eternal life.
- 4:20It is these that testify about Me, and you are unwilling to
- 4:24come to me so that you may have life.
- 4:26I do not receive glory from men, but I know you that you do not
- 4:30have the love of God in yourselves.
- 4:32I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive Me.
- 4:36If another comes in His own name, you will receive Him.
- 4:39How Can you believe when you receive glory from one another,
- 4:42and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only
- 4:44God? Do not think that I will accuse
- 4:47you before the Father. The one who accuses you is
- 4:49Moses, in whom you have set your hope.
- 4:52For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, for He wrote
- 4:55about me. But if you do not believe his
- 4:58writings, how will you believe my words?
