- 1:03It's so great to be here today with Emily Fletcher.
- 1:07Hello Emily. How are you?
- 1:09I'm so happy. So happy to be here and I'm
- 1:12feeling really grateful at the moment.
- 1:14Mmm, I'm excited that you're here too.
- 1:17And I want to share a little bit about who Emily is with all of
- 1:21our listeners and then we can go into a exercise that I love you
- 1:25lead us in for a pause in manifesting.
- 1:27Does that sound good? Let's do it.
- 1:30Awesome. So some of you may know Emily.
- 1:32Emily literally has, in my opinion, changed the game of
- 1:36meditation. She's the founder of Ziva
- 1:39meditation and a leading expert in meditation for performance.
- 1:43You've taught over 25,000 people and probably more than that
- 1:46actually already now. Okay, we're gonna update that
- 1:50statistic anytime. Yeah, that's amazing.
- 1:54And you've written a book called Stressless accomplish more.
- 1:59You're an international speaker. It's been translated into 12
- 2:03languages, and you've been on a myriad of shows, New York Times,
- 2:07Good Morning America. Today's Show ABC Vogue, that's
- 2:11all incredible as it. They know and recognize how
- 2:14important your work is. You've been named one of the top
- 2:17100 women in Wellness, the watch and you've spoken at Google,
- 2:21where I work at Apple and Harvard Business School.
- 2:23You've also helped graduates from your programs when things
- 2:27like Oscars and Grammys and Emmys, Excitable.
- 2:31Yeah. Just you know little things like
- 2:33that and what I think is so powerful is this Ziva technique
- 2:38that is mindfulness meditation and manifesting so that we can
- 2:42so that we can all live a better life and not just necessarily
- 2:45meditate but use that for going for our potential.
- 2:48So Emily, welcome to the podcast.
- 2:51And I would be honored if you would lead us in a cause that
- 2:54work for you. I would be delighted to actually
- 2:57did an interview yesterday with a Owen.
- 3:00And she was talking about how she really doesn't talk about
- 3:03stress very much. She's much more speaking about
- 3:06connection and unity and Consciousness.
- 3:09I was like, look, that is great for your audience, but the
- 3:12people that I speak to are usually a little bit more,
- 3:14skeptical pragmatic, they are dealing with stress.
- 3:17They are dealing with overwhelmed there in the
- 3:18corporate environment and but at the end of the day, we were
- 3:21really saying the same thing. And when you asked me to lead a
- 3:24manifesting exercise, I thought, okay.
- 3:25Well, what would someone think about that?
- 3:28If they had never done manifesting, The only knew about
- 3:30manifesting was the secret, like, what kind of resistance
- 3:33would come up? And so, I think that a lot of
- 3:35people, when they hear that word, they roll their eyes and I
- 3:37think, oh, it's woo. And it's not for me, or you want
- 3:40me to just like, you know, get high and sit on the couch and
- 3:43secret my dreams. It's like, no, no.
- 3:45You have to take action you have.
- 3:47But this is the blueprint, I think this is us bringing our
- 3:50dreams from the unmanifest into 3D reality.
- 3:54But before that can happen, we have to lay the 2D reality.
- 3:57And so this time of manifesting is we Start by feeling really
- 4:00good, we sort of float, our brain and body with dopamine and
- 4:02serotonin, which her Bliss, chemicals.
- 4:05And then, the manifesting is simply consciously, creating a
- 4:07life, you love. It's you getting intentional
- 4:10about what you want your life to look like.
- 4:11And here's the trick, when you start to put your attention on,
- 4:15where you're going on, what would bring you the most Joy on.
- 4:19What's the dream case scenario, if you had a magic wand and you
- 4:22could wave it over one area of your life.
- 4:24What would that look like when you start to put all your time
- 4:26and energy on that thing? All the problems in the
- 4:30overwhelm and the stress and the issues, they really start to
- 4:33fall away. And it was like as we water the
- 4:35flowers, the we'd start to die. But if we spend all of our time,
- 4:40tending to the weeds, we can't help.
- 4:43But give our attention to them. And then we're accidentally
- 4:44growing the things we don't really want to be growing, so
- 4:47that's sort of the philosophical.
- 4:48Why behind manifesting? So we're gonna start with just a
- 4:51few seconds of breathing because it really is important to pause
- 4:54to be in our bodies to start to feel good and then to wave that
- 4:58magic. Jaquan to ask the question.
- 5:00What would I love from a place of presence from a place of
- 5:03feeling good? So let's go ahead and close our
- 5:06eyes. Take a big deep inhale, through
- 5:08the nose. Exhaling through the mouth and
- 5:13long getting the exhale from the inhale.
- 5:18Another big deep inhale through the nose breathing space into
- 5:21the belly, space around the heart.
- 5:25And this time, as you exhale, letting the Brows often letting
- 5:27the jaw soften letting your shoulders drop letting your
- 5:31belly be soft. Really good.
- 5:35Another inhale through the nose breathing.
- 5:38So, much spaciousness around her heart, letting it open.
- 5:40Letting its often. And this time as you exhale,
- 5:45imagine every single muscle in your body surrendering, every
- 5:49single muscle in your body, from your brow, to your jaw, to your
- 5:52shoulders, to your hips, to your feet.
- 5:54Just letting go really good in one final time, breathing in the
- 5:59word. Let And breathing out the word,
- 6:04go. Taking a moment to feel your
- 6:14body against the chair. To hear all of the sounds
- 6:18happening around you. I'm not shoving anything away.
- 6:22We're not trying to be anywhere other than where we are.
- 6:25We're accepting and surrendering, accepting and
- 6:28surrendering. Now, from this place, I invite
- 6:36you to think of one thing that would bring a smile to your
- 6:39face. One thing that you would love to
- 6:43create in your romantic life, your professional life.
- 6:49Personal life. Doesn't matter what the dream is
- 6:54probably. The first thing that popped into
- 6:56your mind is a great one to play with for today.
- 6:57But just one thing, that's one thing I would love right now.
- 7:09And now like you're a little kid playing pretend like you're
- 7:13giving yourself permission to awaken your imagination.
- 7:19I invite you to imagine this dream unfolding all around you.
- 7:25Imagine this thing that you would love.
- 7:29Unfolding. As if it is, your current
- 7:32reality. So, you're signing the contract,
- 7:38you're saying, yes, you're taking the stage, you're seeing
- 7:41the number and the bank account, you're waking up next to the
- 7:44person, whatever it is, awaken your imagination and allow it to
- 7:48unfold all around you. So where are you at the moment
- 7:50that this dream comes true. Inside or outside.
- 7:59Today, or night. Who's with you?
- 8:21And what does it sound like at the very moment that you realize
- 8:24that this thing is happening, this dream is coming to
- 8:28fruition. What does it sound like?
- 8:29Are you laughing? Our people applauding.
- 8:32Is it silent? Is there music playing?
- 8:36Starting to engage our five senses to really make this
- 8:39reality real for us. So that when the opportunity
- 8:43comes which it will feels like you've already achieved it.
- 8:52Decreasing our chances for self Sabotage by imagining this
- 8:55dream, as if it's happening now, to who's with you, what does it
- 8:59sound like And most importantly, what does it feel like at the
- 9:07very moment that you hear the news?
- 9:11You realize that this dream is becoming a reality.
- 9:14What does that feel like in your belly?
- 9:21What does that feel like in your heart?
- 9:31You feel excited, proud. Generous.
- 9:41Taking a big inhale and breathing that feeling into
- 9:44every single cell in your body, starting to charge up your cells
- 9:48so that they can match the frequency of your dream.
- 9:52Giving thanks. As if this dream has already
- 9:54happened. Knowing that this or something.
- 9:58Better is already on the way to you.
- 10:02Big inhale. And as you exhale, letting go of
- 10:06anything that is not serving you or this dream.
- 10:15And one final breath bringing your awareness into your room,
- 10:17into your body, moving your hands, moving your feet, letting
- 10:21a little smile, come to your face, but that sense of trust,
- 10:24would that sense of gratitude? Really believing that this thing
- 10:28is on the way. Otherwise nature would not have
- 10:29given you the desire. In your own time whenever you're
- 10:34ready, we can start to slowly gently Open the Eyes.
- 10:43Wow. Thank you.
- 10:46Thank you so much for that exercise.
- 10:48That pause, I call a pause and intentional shift in behavior
- 10:53and me, that's such a powerful way to imagine your desire.
- 10:58I know I'm also a student of yours, but I've taken the actual
- 11:01manifesting class and it's incredible.
- 11:04What you can feel when you allow yourself that they, and, and
- 11:09honestly, that's the trick about manifesting, it's about feeling
- 11:12good. Because the better you feel the
- 11:14higher quality people jobs, abundance, you're going to be
- 11:18calling in but if you're sick and scared and tired and angry
- 11:22and lock down your your dream person could walk right down the
- 11:26street and you probably won't see them.
- 11:28You know, that that job offer might have come in but you were
- 11:30in overwhelm that you missed the email, you know, the opportunity
- 11:33to start the company that would have brought the abundance might
- 11:35have shown up. But if you're so busy, stressing
- 11:37out about the past and the future, you might not be
- 11:39available to hear that little whisper when it comes in a miss
- 11:42it. Yeah.
- 11:43So it's really about feeling good.
- 11:44It's about getting into the present moment and then your
- 11:47lens pulls back and you can start to take advantage of and
- 11:50recognize all these opportunities as they are
- 11:52arriving. Yeah.
- 11:54And I like what you said earlier where if we're feeling that
- 11:57stress or we think like this isn't for me, this isn't
- 12:00something that I even know what do or like this is like the
- 12:03woowoo stuff. I think it's so interesting that
- 12:06it's actually really just you're envisioning and creating what
- 12:09you want and that's just more likely to happen because you
- 12:13Actually, recreated that like, cellular memory of what that
- 12:16feels like, right. Is that, is that kind of what
- 12:17happens, you know, we get into this like if you can sound a
- 12:20little Booboo, it's like the cellular and the energy, and the
- 12:23vibration. But if you were the CEO of a
- 12:25company, or if you were your team lead and you had objectives
- 12:28for 2021, you're not going to just be like, we'll just go out
- 12:32and just work like just do whatever, just keep working and
- 12:37we'll see if we hit some goals that we never said like without
- 12:40a plan without the know. Plan.
- 12:43Okay, apis. No assignment of who's doing
- 12:46what? And yet.
- 12:47This is kind of what we're doing with our personal dreams.
- 12:50Like, yeah, I want a partner. I want to make a million
- 12:52dollars. I want to have a dream house,
- 12:54but I have no strategies. I have no specific dreams in my
- 12:58mind or written down, and I have no daily habits that are moving
- 13:02me towards those dreams and they're like, how come she's
- 13:05getting it? And I'm not, it's like well,
- 13:06she's one placing the order, right?
- 13:09Like we have to place the order with out what I called, The
- 13:11Cosmic, waitress, the cosmic about rest.
- 13:13But then we also have to take action, right?
- 13:16So it's okay. It doesn't have to be any more,
- 13:18like, whoo, then it's a core strategic objective, you know,
- 13:23like what's important to you? What do you want to accomplish
- 13:26and are you taking action towards that goal?
- 13:30And what do you got to lose? Is kind of where I go with that.
- 13:32Like why would I not try that to see what happens right to
- 13:36experience. And if the point of manifesting
- 13:39is feeling good, then like, oh no, I spent two weeks.
- 13:43I'm good. I'm so mad.
- 13:44I wasted that time my bummer. Yeah, yeah, well, I love that
- 13:50analogy where it's about similar to planning for your year or the
- 13:542021 business plan. I think a lot of us are in the
- 13:59corporate world. I know from listening to the
- 14:01podcast, but even if you're not, if you're just a mom at home,
- 14:04you know, what would you want to create for your day?
- 14:06And I think that just the pause to align with what it is or to
- 14:10allow that to surface is so important.
- 14:13Because how will, you know, or what would you want, and that's
- 14:16what I would call. Intention and attention is so
- 14:18important for creating what we want and in our world, and we
- 14:22need that right now. So much, I think with her world
- 14:25and pandemic welcoming dose of moving towards the positive of
- 14:29moving towards, what we want to create, there's plenty of things
- 14:32to move against right now. There's plenty of things to put
- 14:34our attention on removing. And and yet, what we put our
- 14:38attention on, grows the harder. You push against something the
- 14:41harder, it pushes back with it. Equal and opposite force.
- 14:44And so, it's like, if we have new legislation in place, we
- 14:47have new government in place, like where we moving towards in
- 14:50your company, you know, if you're trying to disrupt an
- 14:53industry, we can't move away from the old.
- 14:55You have to move towards the New Vision.
- 14:57If you're changing a relationship, don't move away
- 14:59from the old relationship move towards the new one.
- 15:02So it's it's the simplest of natural laws, but it's so easy
- 15:09to get distracted. I was a overly What's happening
- 15:14in this 3D reality, right? Because we can see and hear and
- 15:17taste and smell everything that's real now.
- 15:20And so it was like, I don't like that.
- 15:21We push away from that. But then again, watering the
- 15:24weeds versus, oh, I'm going to spend the time to take the pause
- 15:27to get intentional, to listen, to what it is that I actually
- 15:30even want. And then use my very powerful
- 15:33mind, my very powerful imagination to bring this into
- 15:36existence. The thing is, were imagining all
- 15:38day, it's just that most people are imagining, what they don't
- 15:40want to happen, and that's called Stress and Anxiety.
- 15:43And depression. And so I'm not even asking
- 15:45people to spend up any more minutes on this than they're
- 15:49already spending is like you're already using your imagination
- 15:51to think about the things that may or may not happen.
- 15:54It's just instead of the speculation which leads only to
- 15:57suffering. I'm now inviting you to put that
- 15:59same amount of energy and Imagination on.
- 16:02What you do want to happen, that is such wise words of wisdom,
- 16:06Emily. I couldn't agree more and
- 16:09knowing you're building this meditation.
- 16:13Technique the Ziva technique you've got 40,000 students.
- 16:16I'm so curious. What is your vision for what
- 16:19you're creating? Because it is so important.
- 16:21Especially in the work world right now where this has not
- 16:24been the norm and we are learning, we're learning to
- 16:29maybe pause and shift our Behavior or to learn that we can
- 16:33create from intention where and what do you looking to create
- 16:37for your for yourself? I'm so curious.
- 16:40Yeah. So thank you for asking that
- 16:41because honestly I've been putting So much time and
- 16:43attention manifesting my personal goals right now because
- 16:46there's a lot of things that are shifting in my life.
- 16:48Personally, that's where I've really been using a lot of
- 16:52energy and and I've been and also things are changing a lot
- 16:55of my company. And so I've to be very honest, I
- 16:58haven't been crystal clear on what ziva's goals are.
- 17:01I mean, I know big picture like for this year we delayed our
- 17:04off-site until after we're about to launch a Ziva kids.
- 17:08And so I feel like every once a year, we do this off site where
- 17:10we just dream and dream and dream and manifest minimis
- 17:12amount of And that's happening in late March.
- 17:15So I feel a little bit. Like, I'm not totally sure, but
- 17:17I can tell you, like, the big picture one's even.
- 17:19Yeah, that's that would be great.
- 17:22So one, is it, so it, like, I just mentioned, we're starting
- 17:24Ziva kids in a few weeks. It was coming out in February,
- 17:28and this is going to be. I'm working on it for two years
- 17:30with folks, from Harvard psychology and also Sesame
- 17:33Street. And I think it's going to be the
- 17:35world's best meditation training for kids to help kids Thrive and
- 17:39so this I wanted to legit Go Global like there.
- 17:42Is nothing out there that I think is good enough for kids
- 17:46and most of the stuff is like free apps or for YouTube videos
- 17:49or Barbie and it's like, no, no. Like we got to get the most
- 17:52powerful tools into the hands of these children in a way that is
- 17:56accessible and enjoyable, and if they want to come back to it.
- 17:59So just like I've done with Ziva for adults, we're really framing
- 18:02meditation as a tool to help you get better at life, right?
- 18:05So if you want to get better at work, right?
- 18:06You need to handle your stress. You want to find a relationship
- 18:09great. You need to handle your stress.
- 18:11So it's the same for kids. It's like, look, you love
- 18:12soccer. Amazing.
- 18:13This is a tool to help you be better at soccer.
- 18:16I would love to see this like one in people's homes to start,
- 18:18you know, thousands of homes around the world and then
- 18:21hopefully in schools and community centers.
- 18:24So that's the dream for that. I once we're all convening
- 18:27together, you know, we can be together.
- 18:29I want to be, I want to be in a stadium filled with 15,000
- 18:32people, meditating the start and then eventually I'd love to have
- 18:36stadiums of people around the world like telecasting to each
- 18:39other. So we're legit having like Mass
- 18:41Global meditations? Ins Mass manifestations healing
- 18:45climate change. You know ending genocides like
- 18:48you really putting 15,000 people's antennas tuned to a
- 18:54specific goal, that seems very exciting to me.
- 18:58You know, this is all pre-pandemic but I love the idea
- 19:01of partnering with Starbucks and having like a Ziva T just
- 19:04because they have all this real estate and it's boasted.
- 19:06It's mostly empty from like noon until 6:00 and especially in New
- 19:10York City. It's hard for people to find
- 19:12places to Is he it's like why don't you just have like a Ziva
- 19:16tea and a meditation our at Starbucks or people pop in and
- 19:19can go and meditate there. So it's like your utilize that
- 19:22and say that's already there, I'd love to have Ziva online,
- 19:25which is the course that you did star 15-day.
- 19:28Like Flagship training in mindfulness.
- 19:30She's my way of meditation so good and I'd love to have that
- 19:33and, you know, Google, I'd love to have it in, you know, in
- 19:36schools and universities because it's only 15 minutes a day for
- 19:4015 days. And then you have these tools to
- 19:42take With you for life. And it's not like not like
- 19:45Tethered to your phone like an app.
- 19:47You don't need a dude, playing drums on your chest and burning
- 19:50incense in order to be able to do it, you just close your eyes
- 19:54and so I'd love to really see that program scaled through
- 19:57corporations and colleges. So yeah, I love that vision for
- 20:02yourself and knowing where in the virtual world right now, for
- 20:05who knows, indefinitely right now.
- 20:07But that Stadium mentality. Do you see that being like we
- 20:10could just do that virtually if we had a hook?
- 20:1215,000, Zoom connections or something.
- 20:15You know, we're almost there because I do, I do weekly Global
- 20:18meditations, every Tuesday at 6 p.m. and we're up to about
- 20:2110,000. So, you know, that's, that's
- 20:24just like a stone throw away from 15,000 and then, yes, a
- 20:27virtually. It's that's happening.
- 20:28Now that's so exciting. And so what?
- 20:32Yeah, you mentioned Ziva online and I want to say a word about
- 20:34that because as a person that was introduced so I wasn't
- 20:37looking for a new way to meditate and I've been
- 20:39meditating. Like maybe many of us look
- 20:42several As bait or nine years since my first Burning Man,
- 20:45actually. And, and what I learned was, the
- 20:49structure of doing something within 15 minutes twice a day,
- 20:53where I don't have to rely on anything, including having a
- 20:57anything, but a timer basically, and I have to look at it myself.
- 20:59It's not even something that I could have a chime on.
- 21:01That's what you recommend not to do that for meditation bends,
- 21:05which I love that analogy. So, again, scuba diving, you can
- 21:08get the bends. If you come up too fast, same
- 21:11thing, I'm in meditation and Give you what I call The
- 21:13Meditation bends which looks like headaches and irritability.
- 21:17Yeah. So it's about your own time and
- 21:18what works for you and then the two times a day, I really like I
- 21:23thought that wasn't going to happen, you know, I thought
- 21:25there's no way there's no way I'm going to do 15 minutes and I
- 21:27granted don't do it every day for to Choice a day.
- 21:30But what I do find is how much more empowered and good.
- 21:34I feel when I do do that, and I think that, you know, if we all
- 21:38just take those 15 days to learn what you're thinking, there's so
- 21:42much there, I think for us to shift and that's what you're
- 21:45talking about is living our best lives.
- 21:48So like all the power to you, Emily.
- 21:50I'm so excited for what you're doing.
- 21:52Thank you. Tell me.
- 21:53Yeah, tell me a little bit about how you got started.
- 21:55I know your background somewhat but share a little bit about how
- 21:59you got started in this world. Hmm, so I was on Broadway for 10
- 22:02years, singing, dancing acting. And my last show was A Chorus
- 22:08Line where I was understudying 3 of the lead roles.
- 22:11So you never know which You're going to play when you show up
- 22:14to the theater each night, which led to a lot of anxiety led to
- 22:17make my gray led to insomnia, led to me getting sick and
- 22:20injured all the time. So, long story short, I found
- 22:22meditation, I took this four-day course, and on the first day of
- 22:25my first class, I was meditating.
- 22:26I had no idea what that meant, but I was in a different state
- 22:29of consciousness that I had ever been in before, and you've got
- 22:32to think this is 12 years ago. So there was no abscess was no
- 22:35online meditation training. There was no overt Oprah.
- 22:37There was no head space so I had no idea really, what meditation
- 22:41was? I just knew that I I was like
- 22:43like in this other state of consciousness and that night, I
- 22:47slept through the night for the first time in 18 months, and I
- 22:50have every night since that was 12 years ago, then I stopped
- 22:53going gray. I stopped getting injured.
- 22:54I started enjoying my job again, I didn't get sick for eight and
- 22:58a half years and so, I just thought, why does everybody not
- 23:01do this? I left Broadway went to India
- 23:03started. What became a three-year
- 23:04training process to teach. And, you know, like I said, now,
- 23:08I we've created actually the world's first online meditation
- 23:10training, which is now called Ziva online.
- 23:13And it's not over 40,000 people and I think I think the book is
- 23:16about like 65,000 now. So I think like all in were
- 23:19about 100,000, which is great, but it's also like a drop in the
- 23:23bucket of the eight billion stressed out humans on the
- 23:26planet. It's like, well, I'm very like
- 23:28ego proud, like, great 100,000 people.
- 23:30It's like that ain't nothing. Like we gotta get into the
- 23:33hundreds of millions very, very quickly because we can feel it.
- 23:37Like we can feel the pressure cooker that everyone is under as
- 23:41the world is changing. Even if you take the pandemic
- 23:44out of it, technology Healthcare, you know, it's all
- 23:48speeding up and then you put a global pandemic on it.
- 23:52That's really changed. Our whole civilization in a very
- 23:54fast way and you put loneliness and isolation on top of it.
- 23:58And it's a recipe for people, feeling lonely and sick and
- 24:03scared, and stressed and the sad reality is that stress makes us
- 24:06stupid, sick and slow, and we cannot afford to be stupid, sick
- 24:11and slow right now. We need all Is on Deck to face
- 24:13the very real challenges that were being called upon as a
- 24:16species. And so, I think that this whole
- 24:19time of This Global pause, right?
- 24:22Like there's in some ways, we're in a global pause.
- 24:24It can be an opportunity to really look at.
- 24:26Well, what stuff is coming up for me?
- 24:28What needs to be healed and move us closer towards Enlightenment?
- 24:31Or it can be like another layer on the callous, it can be
- 24:35another chink in the armor of stress.
- 24:38And I think it's really important that we decide that
- 24:40we're going to move towards healing.
- 24:42That we're going to soften and open our hearts and lead with
- 24:45compassion and create the world that we would want to live in on
- 24:49the other side of this versus allowing it to be like another
- 24:52traumatic experience. Yeah.
- 24:55What I'm hearing is that choice. We all have that free will to
- 24:59say I want to change my my attitude or my stress levels or
- 25:05how I show up. And I think this time is is
- 25:09Paramount for knowing what was working?
- 25:12What Here won't get us there. That's kind of how I see it.
- 25:15Yeah. And what better way to do that
- 25:17than to up here up here Auntie and your game for like going
- 25:21deeper in a way of present so that you know what's going on
- 25:25with you so that you can feel okay?
- 25:27And be okay with that. And I would argue that while
- 25:30yes, I cosmically, I do believe that.
- 25:32We all have a choice. I also think that, you know,
- 25:35while we're all in the same storm, a lot of us have
- 25:37different sized and shaped boats, you know, I have the
- 25:40privilege of working from home. I have the privilege of having
- 25:42an Annie. I have a prince of having a son
- 25:44who's not in school yet and so you know I already had an online
- 25:48business. So I know that like I was very
- 25:50well positioned to take this time and to do this internal
- 25:53work or some people single parents people have three jobs
- 25:57and they don't really have a choice of like whether or not or
- 26:00perhaps they're more susceptible to covid or they have a
- 26:03pre-existing condition or they don't have health care.
- 26:05So I just want to acknowledge the fact that some people are
- 26:08legit in survival mode right now.
- 26:10And, and those of us who have the privilege, Of taking this
- 26:13Clause of doing this internal work.
- 26:15I think we have an obligation both to ourselves and to the
- 26:18people around us so that we can help to lift up the collective.
- 26:22Yeah, thank you for acknowledging that.
- 26:24I 100% agree. Christina breath into that.
- 26:28Yeah, It's Tricky thing. The privilege piece, right?
- 26:33Because it's like, I think when people hear it, they think of oh
- 26:35you want me to feel guilty about what I have and it's not about
- 26:38guilt, right? To me, privilege is something
- 26:41that you have that. You maybe didn't learn.
- 26:43So the question is, how are you going to spend it?
- 26:45You don't so, guilt isn't helping anybody really, unless
- 26:48it's pointing towards something that needs to be healed.
- 26:51But if you just think about it, like currency, you didn't earn
- 26:53but you have an opportunity to spend then I think it's quite
- 26:56empowering. All right, then it's like oh
- 26:59wait this is like a. I can use this to help people.
- 27:01I can use this to do good in the world versus like oh you want me
- 27:04to feel guilty about something that I feel like I didn't have
- 27:07any control over. Yeah.
- 27:09And what a, what a shift that is in terms of thinking of it like
- 27:13that because all of a sudden, when I think of it like, how can
- 27:16I use this? Whether it's privileged or my my
- 27:22until like the, like the academic studies, or white
- 27:25privilege or anything like that. It's just about what what do I
- 27:30know and now how can I serve? I feel like that that comes up
- 27:33for me that was goes right. Back to the bigger conversation
- 27:36of like I have this talk called how to use your desires as
- 27:40Nature's GPS. And in it, I walk people through
- 27:43an exercise, its bolt series of questions where you just say
- 27:46like, what's the most pressing need of the time?
- 27:49And then, how do my gifts, best serve that need and then which
- 27:54of those gifts. Do I want to use right now?
- 27:57Right. So what's the most pressing need
- 27:59of the time? Which of my gifts best serve
- 28:01that needs to all of your privileges intelligence having a
- 28:04family having internet, you know the color of your skin where you
- 28:08live, like there's a million Health B million types of
- 28:12Privileges and the things that you've cultivated things you've
- 28:15been given and things. You've cultivated how to my
- 28:18gifts, best serve the needs of the time and then which of those
- 28:21gifts do I want to use right now and you answer those three
- 28:24questions? Quite honestly.
- 28:26Like you make you make a list of List of lists Circle to
- 28:28overlaps. This is what I would call the
- 28:30conscious design of Happiness. That's such a powerful exercise.
- 28:35So let me just recap that because I want to make sure I
- 28:37get it. So it's what is, what are the
- 28:40issues at the moment? Like, what is happening?
- 28:42What do I think of like the most pressing needs in a pressing
- 28:45needs, right now? What do, what are my, what are
- 28:48my gifts? Like, what do I have to offer?
- 28:51And then what are the ones? They're like, circling the
- 28:53things that stand out to me that I could apply in that and that
- 28:56you To use radar and loving and wanting to use.
- 29:00Yeah, like I cannot really good tap dancer and I don't really
- 29:03want to spend my days tap dancing right now and I don't
- 29:05think it's the best service of the time, but some people might
- 29:08feel differently. Like I actually have a friend
- 29:10who's an amazing tap dancer. And she's been offering these
- 29:12like Zoom Instagram tap classes once a week that I've been
- 29:15taking and I love them and they make me so happy and so but like
- 29:19for me my gift of teaching meditation is I feel like a much
- 29:23more useful skill for this particular.
- 29:27Time. And so it's just a matter of
- 29:28going through of like, oh well, I understand polymers, so I may
- 29:31be able to help get the Plastics out of the ocean.
- 29:34You know, you just, it's just fine combination of problem and
- 29:36solution. And I think of that, even back
- 29:39to our manifesting exercise, where it's about feeling it and
- 29:42knowing that's what you desire. So it's almost like full circle
- 29:46there. That's pretty wild.
- 29:48Yeah, yeah. And I think the other thing that
- 29:52I really appreciate about the Ziva work and what you're
- 29:56bringing to the world. Browning it in so much science,
- 30:00right? Where your shift you're talking
- 30:01about the neuroscience and how this is applying on a daily
- 30:04basis. Whether it's, our neural
- 30:06plasticity, that's changing and and why that matters?
- 30:11Like what does that mean? When we do this every day and
- 30:14things like that? And and some of I've actually
- 30:16taken notes, when I've heard you speaking, like, what did she say
- 30:18about the hippocampus? Like, I want to know that too.
- 30:20So, can you share a little bit about the actual effects?
- 30:23Like what is going on in our brain, as we are Linking up the
- 30:28right and the left hemispheres. As we are of going inwards, I
- 30:31would just love to hear a little bit about that because I don't
- 30:33think people recognize how much can be affected.
- 30:37You think it's just like a maybe, a one-time thing, and
- 30:39nothing really changes, but, I know, I know that there's a
- 30:41different story there. Yeah.
- 30:43So so a lot of people think that one that meditation is just a
- 30:47mental technique, but actually it's changing everything about
- 30:50your physiology because your brain is responsible for
- 30:52printing every single cell in your body.
- 30:54And it's also running your endocrine system, your heart.
- 30:57On system like all of all the chemical system.
- 31:00And so actually the first seven chapters of the book stress,
- 31:04less accomplish more, it all goes into this, there's a whole
- 31:07chapter on sex, there's a whole chapter on immune system as a
- 31:09whole chapter on, well, how can reverse your body age by up to
- 31:12eight years? There's a chapter on the other
- 31:16physical ones, it's basically like all the selfish reasons
- 31:19that people come to meditation. But here's what's happening.
- 31:22So when U Prime and then PS, This is not go for all types of
- 31:26meditation because I know that now Now, when you say imitation
- 31:28people like oh yeah, I do headspace ride.
- 31:29Ooh, calm or I have I do this for YouTube thing and those are
- 31:32all great, right? Like I'm not here to, you know,
- 31:37be disrespectful to any other techniques, and I'm very glad
- 31:40that they exist. It's a beautiful, many of them
- 31:42are beautiful, gateway drugs, and have really made people a
- 31:45lot more open to the idea that it you don't have to move to a
- 31:48cave or shave your head or you know stop drinking Jack Daniels
- 31:52in order to meditate that you can just be you and do this
- 31:55tool. And But I what I'm speaking
- 31:58about right now is specifically the Ziva technique.
- 32:00So this is when you're, when you're combining mindfulness
- 32:04with what I would call meditation and then manifesting
- 32:07and a quick prequel on the difference between those two
- 32:10mindfulness is the art of bringing your awareness into the
- 32:12present moment. Very good at dealing with your
- 32:14stress in the Now versus The Meditation portion of Ziva.
- 32:18It's all about getting rid of your stress from the past,
- 32:21healing, you on a cellular level, and this is ultimately
- 32:24where we search to change your physiology and get this massive
- 32:26upgrade. Raid in both Consciousness and
- 32:31performance and cognitive ability.
- 32:33So, so there's that. So when we meditate and by
- 32:37meditation, I mean, accessing a verifiable fourth state of
- 32:39consciousness, different than waking sleeping or dreaming.
- 32:42And when you do that, right and left, hemispheres of the brain
- 32:44sort of function in unison. So that means, if you were to be
- 32:48unlike an EEG machine, all the leads would rise and fall and
- 32:51Unison which is unique to meditation.
- 32:53It doesn't happen in your waking sleeping or dreaming states of
- 32:56consciousness. And they're right and left
- 32:58hemispheres are still functioning separately.
- 33:00So when you do that, when you start to create this brain
- 33:02cohesion, you strengthen something called the corpus
- 33:05callosum. And that is the Thin White Strip
- 33:07that connects the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
- 33:10So it's like, alright, cool party trick.
- 33:12But why would I want a fat corpus callosum?
- 33:14Well, everybody should. And here's why it's quite
- 33:17literally, the bridge between your critical and creative mind
- 33:20is the bridge between your masculine and feminine the
- 33:22bridge between the present moment and the past and future.
- 33:26So, Let's say you're at work or Google or boss comes to you and
- 33:29is like hey we just miss this deadline is competitor.
- 33:31Did this thing? What are we going to do about
- 33:33it? And you're like and you just
- 33:35freeze? Are you flight and you go back
- 33:38to your desk and you can think of anything and then two hours
- 33:40later. Once you calm down, you come up
- 33:41with all these ideas but Meanwhile your boss has given
- 33:43the project to someone else, or you get into a fight with your
- 33:46partner, right? Gets really heated and then
- 33:48eventually start crying and Retreat to the bedroom.
- 33:50Two hours later, you start coming up with all these witty
- 33:52comebacks and you're like, why couldn't I have thought of that
- 33:55in the moment? Well, my This is the thicker
- 33:58corpus. Callosum is the easier, it is
- 33:59for you to come up with all those witty comebacks, have
- 34:01those creative problem-solving ideas, even in the middle of a
- 34:05high, demand situation. So, that's the corpus, callosum.
- 34:08Neuroplasticity is simply the brain's ability to change itself
- 34:11and we want the brains to be quite plastic, okay?
- 34:14We want the brains to be quite malleable, because if it's
- 34:17fixed, once it's becomes fixed, once it starts to stagnate, then
- 34:21it starts to atrophy and that is Parkinson's.
- 34:24That is dementia. That is all timers.
- 34:26Like it's a brain is not Not growing if it's not creating
- 34:29than it is destroying like everything else in life.
- 34:32And so we really want and neurogenesis is the brain's
- 34:35ability to generate new neurons. And we used to think that that
- 34:38stop at 24 that the brain was growing growing growing, until
- 34:42it was fully formed in the early 20s and there was just a slow
- 34:45decline to the Grave. That is not true.
- 34:48You can in, you can keep neurogenesis going up until your
- 34:5180s provided that you're eating food.
- 34:53That is food having sex being in nature.
- 34:57To tating and exercising? Do you have to have all pieces
- 35:00of the pie? But meditation is a really
- 35:02important piece of that pie in order for the brain to continue
- 35:04to grow. We have to have sex.
- 35:06That's very important to. Yeah.
- 35:07I mean and sex is hugely. I mean we're of over-sexualized
- 35:12as a society and undersexed, right?
- 35:14It's like there's porn and screens and phones but not
- 35:18actual like human touch and especially now Timothy demek,
- 35:22you know you think about babies they can live for 18 days
- 35:25without water or food. You Don't touch them, they will
- 35:28die. Yeah.
- 35:29Like so it's for the physical touch is really important and if
- 35:32you have been locked up in isolation for a long time, touch
- 35:35yourself, get a massage, getting a bath, get a quarantine buddy,
- 35:40you know, like get tested and Bubble Up, you know.
- 35:43But I don't think that isolation is, it's not tenable in the long
- 35:47term. So there's that second
- 35:50neurogenesis we have neuroplasticity with the corpus
- 35:53callosum, the hippocampus. Now, to be honest, I don't know,
- 35:56a ton about the The only thing I know is that over like eight
- 36:00weeks of regular practice, we can increase the size of your
- 36:04hippocampus by 27%. Now if you think about your
- 36:07bicep, right, if you could like, increase your bicep by 27% you
- 36:10be like, whoa. But may not like, who really
- 36:13cares about your biceps? So you look better in your
- 36:15selfie but we're done. Integral part of your brain.
- 36:19That is responsible for all kinds of functions that I cannot
- 36:22remember at the moment, which is hilarious.
- 36:25But really, I think it's I think it's independent and hormone
- 36:28systems, I think, but you can fact check me on that.
- 36:31Yeah, but anyway, point of the story is that this is not just
- 36:33like a pedicure for your brain. Okay.
- 36:35Meditation is not about just feeling good for 15 minutes.
- 36:39This is actually healing you on a cellular level changing, your
- 36:42chemistry and ultimately changing your physiology if you
- 36:46do it regularly. Mhm.
- 36:48Yeah. And all of that I think is just
- 36:50so powerful for knowing what's going on in the moment.
- 36:53I know when I when I, when I've learned things and understand it
- 36:56and I'll While some things happen, it makes it actually
- 36:59more motivating to do something. Like well, I'm changing my my
- 37:02structure of the corpus callosum right now, I don't know.
- 37:05I'm a kind of geeking I do. You got on that stuff, so I
- 37:07appreciate you sharing all of that for us.
- 37:09Thank you, my pleasure. Yeah.
- 37:12And so tell us a little bit. I know there's a gift that you'd
- 37:15like to offer us, and where can we find more out about you as we
- 37:18want to take? Check out Ziva.
- 37:20Yeah. So I would say if there's even a
- 37:23kid there's Diva online, but it's like the best place to find
- 37:26all of Of that, is that our website, which is Ziva

- 38:53these skills to take with them for life.
- 38:55For the rest of their life, will put those links in the show
- 38:58notes. So Emily, thank you so much for
