- 0:00John chapter 12. Jesus, therefore, 6 days before
- 0:04the Passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus
- 0:08had raised from the dead. So they made him a supper there,
- 0:11and Martha was serving, but Lazarus was one of those
- 0:14reclining at the table with him. Mary then took a pound of very
- 0:17costly perfume of pure gnard and anointed the feet of Jesus and
- 0:22wiped his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with
- 0:25the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his
- 0:28disciples who was intending to betray him, said, why was this
- 0:32perfume not sold for 300 denarii and given to poor people?
- 0:36Now he said this not because he was concerned about the poor,
- 0:39but because he was a thief, and as he had the Money Box, he used
- 0:42to pilfer what was put into it. Therefore Jesus said, Let her
- 0:46alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial.
- 0:50For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always
- 0:53have me. The large crowd of the Jews then
- 0:56learned that he was there, and they came not for Jesus sake
- 0:58only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom he raised from
- 1:01the dead. But the chief priest planned to
- 1:03put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many
- 1:07of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.
- 1:10On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when
- 1:13they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took the branches
- 1:16of the palm trees and went out to meet him and began to shout,
- 1:19Hosanna. Blessed is he who comes in the
- 1:21name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.
- 1:25Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it as it is written.
- 1:28Fear not, daughter of Zion, behold, your King is coming
- 1:32seated on a donkey's colt. These things his disciples did
- 1:35not understand at the first, but when Jesus was glorified, then
- 1:39they remembered that these things were written of him, and
- 1:41that they had done these things to him.
- 1:44So the people who were with him when he called Lazarus out of
- 1:46the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify about
- 1:49him. For this reason also the people
- 1:52went and met him, because they heard that he had performed this
- 1:54sign. So the Pharisees said to one
- 1:57another, You see that you are not doing any good.
- 2:00Look, the world has gone after him.
- 2:03Now there were some Greeks among those who were going up to
- 2:05worship at the feast. These then came to Philip, who
- 2:09was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and began to ask him, saying,
- 2:12Sir, we wish to see Jesus. Philip came and told Andrew,
- 2:17Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus, and Jesus answered them,
- 2:21saying the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
- 2:25Truly, truly. I say to you, unless a grain of
- 2:27wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone, but if
- 2:31it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it,
- 2:36and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life
- 2:39eternal. If anyone serves me, he must
- 2:41follow me, and where I am, there my servant will be also.
- 2:45If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
- 2:49Now my soul has become troubled, and what shall I say, Father,
- 2:52save me from this hour. But for this purpose I came to
- 2:55this hour. Father, glorify your name.
- 2:59Then a voice came out of heaven. I have both glorified it and
- 3:02will glorify it again. So the crowd of people who stood
- 3:05by and heard it were saying that it had thundered.
- 3:08Others were saying, An Angel has spoken to him.
- 3:10Jesus answered and said, This voice has not come for my sake,
- 3:14but for your sakes. Now judgment is upon this world.
- 3:18Now the ruler of this world will be cast out, and I, if I am
- 3:20lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.
- 3:24But he was saying this to indicate the kind of death by
- 3:26which he was to die. The crowd then answered him, We
- 3:29have heard out of the law that cry that the Christ is to remain
- 3:32forever. And how can you say the Son of
- 3:34man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?
- 3:38So Jesus said to them, for a little while longer.
- 3:40The light is among you. Walk while you have the light,
- 3:43so that darkness will not overtake you.
- 3:45He who walks in the darkness does not know where He goes
- 3:49while you have the light. Believe in the light, so that
- 3:52you may become sons of light. These things Jesus spoke, and He
- 3:56went away and hid Himself from them.
- 3:58But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they
- 4:01were not believing in Him. This was to fulfil the word of
- 4:04Isaiah the prophet which He spoke.
- 4:06Lord, who has believed our report, and to whom has the arm
- 4:09of the Lord been revealed? For this reason they could not
- 4:12believe. For Isaiah said again, He has
- 4:14blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart, so that
- 4:17they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their
- 4:19heart, and be converted, and I heal them.
- 4:23These things Isaiah said, because he saw His glory, and he
- 4:25spoke of Him. Nevertheless, many even of the
- 4:28rulers believed in Him. But because of the Pharisees,
- 4:31they were not confessing Him for fear that they would be put out
- 4:33of the synagogue, for they loved the approval of men rather than
- 4:37the approval of God. And Jesus cried out and said, he
- 4:40who believes in me does not believe in me, but in him who
- 4:44sent me. He who sees me sees the one who
- 4:47sent me. I have come as light into the
- 4:49world, so that everyone who believes in me will not remain
- 4:52in darkness. If anyone hears my sayings and
- 4:55does not keep them, I do not judge Him, for I did not come to
- 4:58judge the world, but to save the world.
- 5:01He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings has one who
- 5:04judges Him. The word I spoke is what will
- 5:07judge Him at the last day, for I did not speak on my own
- 5:10initiative, but the Father Himself who sent me has given me
- 5:14a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.
- 5:17I know that His commandment is eternal life.
- 5:19Therefore, the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has
- 5:23told me.
