- 0:00Can you share with us your mother's experience being
- 0:02pregnant with you? What the doctors told her.
- 0:04First they didn't think I was a baby, they thought I was a
- 0:06tumor. This doctor that, this is the
- 0:08greatest miracle I've ever seen. One day my dad was preaching in
- 0:11a remote village in this underground location, some men
- 0:14injured and they started to sell these 4 little girls in an
- 0:17auction. He took out all the money in his
- 0:18wallet and he was able to purchase the freedom of these 4
- 0:21girls. What did he do once he purchased
- 0:23their freedom? Every one of those red dots is a
- 0:25unique IP address that is downloading, sharing and
- 0:28distributing child and abuse images.
- 0:32Why? Haven't the feds broken down the
- 0:34doors of every dwelling that these individuals are in?
- 0:37Those with the goal to do evil many times work better than
- 0:39those with the goal to do good. When you say you feel like so
- 0:42many things you've done that were meaningless and now you're
- 0:44chasing the important things, what do you mean?
- 0:46Well, I just think. Hey guys, I want to take a quick
- 0:52second to say thank you for being here.
- 0:55If you've ever found value in one of my videos or enjoy this
- 0:58channel, would you mind hitting that subscribe button?
- 1:01Right now, 66% of you who regularly watch aren't yet
- 1:05subscribed. It might seem like a small
- 1:08click, but it means the world to this team.
- 1:09Our team is working incredibly hard behind the scenes to create
- 1:13a culture of life and truly make the world a better place through
- 1:16this content. Joining the community is the
- 1:18best way to support that mission and ensure that we can keep
- 1:21doing in this work. Thank you for being part of the
- 1:23journey. Can you share with us about just
- 1:26your mother's experience being pregnant with you, what the
- 1:28doctors told her, and also how you first learned about this
- 1:33story? That is partly your mother's
- 1:35story, but also your own. Yeah, of course.
- 1:40Well, we are living in the Philippines and my parents felt
- 1:44called to go be missionaries there.
- 1:46And so they moved to the Philippines with my four older
- 1:49siblings. And then one day my dad was
- 1:51preaching in a remote village and God put it on his heart
- 1:56before he ever started preaching that night and about all the
- 1:59babies that were being aborted around the world and started to
- 2:02weep for all of them kind of uncontrollably.
- 2:06And I felt like I put on his heart that they needed to have
- 2:10another baby. And so he finished preaching,
- 2:14traveled back to where my family lived.
- 2:17And he told my mom, like, I feel like I put on my heart to and we
- 2:21need to have another baby. And my mom's kind of like, well,
- 2:23he didn't put it on my heart. So I don't know what you want to
- 2:25do and. How old were the other kids?
- 2:29369 and 12:00 Well, probably, yeah, slightly, because when I
- 2:34was born there 369. So she had like a toddler and
- 2:36and the others, yeah. And my mom started to pray about
- 2:41it not long. She felt the the calling and the
- 2:44urge in her heart too. And then my mom became pregnant.
- 2:47And at first they didn't think I was a baby that thought I was a
- 2:50tumor. And so actually my first real
- 2:54nickname was Timmy the Tumor. As.
- 2:56My siblings are just that supportive of me, but.
- 3:01How did they, by the way, how did they think that she went in
- 3:03for an ultrasound? They said this doesn't look like
- 3:04a A. Massive fetal tissue looks like
- 3:06a tumor and and it's. Like a It's like a molar
- 3:10pregnancy, basically. It's not a.
- 3:11Real pregnancy you I'd have to ask her.
- 3:13I was I wasn't aware of all of this.
- 3:16I was just along for the ride and but there were so many
- 3:19complications and my mom even when in and out of a coma during
- 3:23the pregnancy and she had amoeba dysentery as well.
- 3:27And ultimately Fast forward to when she was giving birth.
- 3:31They found a really trusted American trained Dr. and so, so
- 3:37many people around the world were were praying for, for me
- 3:40and my mom and this doctor as helping my mom give birth.
- 3:49He looks in the placenta is only barely attached and he's a you
- 3:53know, I had performed something like 25,000 births and he just
- 4:01like told my parents, he said, this is the greatest miracle
- 4:03I've ever seen because I have no idea how your baby got the
- 4:06nutrients with everything that's taking place and the placentas
- 4:08are only a tiny bit that's attached.
- 4:10I don't know how your baby's still alive.
- 4:13And I'm so, I'm just so grateful for my, my parents courage and
- 4:18their love for me and their trusting God to, to give me a
- 4:21chance. And that's the only reason that
- 4:24I'm here today. And I'm so grateful that God
- 4:26spared my life so I could be here.
- 4:28How big were you when you were born?
- 4:30I don't remember I. Don't remember.
- 4:33You have to ask my mom. You have to ask my mom.
- 4:35OK. We'll have to have her on to
- 4:37talk about that. I'm curious if you were smaller
- 4:39because it obviously didn't. Affect you long term.
- 4:41I was, I was, I was malnourished, but I tried to
- 4:43make up for it so. Sounds like you.
- 4:45We worked it out. We figured it out.
- 4:47So I have so much admiration for you.
- 4:49Our team at Live Action does. I do personally what you and
- 4:53your wife are doing across the globe to serve people, God's
- 4:56image and. That's my wife there.
- 4:59Hi. Hi, have her FaceTime in we'll
- 5:01have her join. I know she.
- 5:02Says I want a big thank you. To her for having you out here
- 5:06too, because I'm, I know anytime you're doing ministry, you're
- 5:09not together as a family. So thank you for the generosity
- 5:12because you're all over the world doing work to help
- 5:14children and sex trafficking victims, people who are
- 5:17suffering with medical needs, and it's just beautiful.
- 5:21Well, thank you. It's hard.
- 5:22It's hard being away from her and being away from our little
- 5:25girl. And, you know, there's a real
- 5:28tension there between just that responsibility of being dad and
- 5:33husband and then the calling. And I believe that God's, you
- 5:37know, place in our lives and on our lives to go care for what we
- 5:40like to call the MVP, the most vulnerable people.
- 5:44And there's a real tension there of both of those
- 5:47responsibilities. But I'm just so, so grateful for
- 5:50all of it. I'm just give so much meaning
- 5:53and purpose to life and you know, it's just so easy to chase
- 5:58so many things that I know I've done that are so meaningless and
- 6:03I'm just trying to chase the important things.
- 6:06When you say you, you feel like so many things you've done that
- 6:09were meaningless and now you're chasing the important things.
- 6:11What do you mean? Well, I just think that guy can
- 6:18use so many things that we do. He can use a game and use it for
- 6:21something bigger. But I I think where a lot of the
- 6:24conviction comes in my life is that I've given so much effort,
- 6:28energy, passion, focus, determination and effort to
- 6:34things like a game. To score a touchdown, to win a
- 6:37championship, to win a game. And would I be willing to give
- 6:42the same and more for the things that are going to last for
- 6:46eternity? And I think when I look at my
- 6:50life, I've given so much of those things, you know, whether
- 6:54I was good or bad at them. That's the, you know, besides
- 6:57the point. But the I put such an effort
- 7:00into it and to play with broken bones, or to give up vacations,
- 7:05or to wake up and train, or to do all of those things in
- 7:09preparation to try to win a game.
- 7:12Why would I not put so much more for the things that are going to
- 7:15last for eternity? An I think when I really look at
- 7:18my life, it's in the scales. It's way more for the things
- 7:23that just don't matter. And I want to change that with
- 7:26the rest of the days that God gives me.
- 7:28Was that the inspiration for founding your Tim Tebow
- 7:31Foundation? No, the inspiration behind that
- 7:35was I met a boy in the jungles of the Philippines when I was 15
- 7:38years old who was born with his feet on backwards.
- 7:40And because of that, he was viewed as less than
- 7:42insignificant and as cursed by a lot of people.
- 7:46And so they treated him as a throwaway.
- 7:49And I knew he wasn't a throwaway to God, but I felt like God was
- 7:53breaking my heart saying, yeah, but what are you going to do
- 7:57about it? Because it's one thing to feel
- 8:00something, it's another thing to do something.
- 8:03And I'm so grateful for that boy and really his two friends,
- 8:07because he had two friends that would never leave aside.
- 8:11And even though he's the one that was viewed as curse, they
- 8:14stayed with him. And when he was left out, they
- 8:16were left out. And I just thought just one
- 8:23about the gospel that God gave his best, not for me, not just
- 8:27for me, but for that boy, and what am I going to be willing to
- 8:31do for him? And I just saw the picture of
- 8:33his two friends that would never leave him, that were always with
- 8:36them and that would do whatever so that he would have food, go
- 8:40through the trash and give their friend food.
- 8:43And he just radically impacted my life and hugging him goodbye.
- 8:50And those three boys got to pray with me to say yes to Jesus.
- 8:56And I was just a wreck leaving. And I remember saying bye to him
- 9:03and saying, you know, I can't wait one day to see you in
- 9:06heaven if I never see you again here.
- 9:09And he said, Kuyatimi, which means, brother, I can't wait to
- 9:12run with you in heaven. And it's a boy that has never
- 9:16walked a day in his life on his own.
- 9:18And I don't know, somehow maybe God put that thought in his head
- 9:22And I just, I thought about him and those two friends.
- 9:28And the first thing I did when I graduated from the University of
- 9:31Florida was start the foundation with the mission statement.
- 9:35Just thinking about that boy to bring faith, open love to those
- 9:38needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.
- 9:40All those around the world, in our country and everywhere else
- 9:44that are treated as less insignificant, as curses,
- 9:47throwaways, because they're not to God.
- 9:50But what are we going to do about it?
- 9:53You were 15 when you met him. I was 15 when I met him.
- 9:56Why were you in the Philippines? Well, I was born in, I was born
- 10:00in the Philippines and we lived there the first five years of my
- 10:03life. We moved back to the States and
- 10:04then traveled a lot back and forth to the Philippines and
- 10:07throughout Southeast Asia and a lot of other places and
- 10:10especially in the summers on mission trips.
- 10:12And that was one of those mission trips.
- 10:14And I also, I guess I would say I was just really convicted that
- 10:20man, I just loved, I love competition, I love sports, I
- 10:24love winning. I hated losing even more and I
- 10:27would go to such extremes for it.
- 10:29And it was just this process that wasn't a one day thing, but
- 10:34is this process that got still working in me of that through
- 10:40high school and through college and time NFL and playing
- 10:44baseball. All of this that God was just
- 10:47continuing to work work because maybe I can be a little stubborn
- 10:51at times. We're just continue to work in
- 10:54my heart where you know, my identity was just way too many
- 10:59times so wrapped up in that even though I could have given you
- 11:03the right answers doesn't mean that that was actually the truth
- 11:08of what my identity was put in. And it was just a time of
- 11:11pulling me away and you know, me, maybe in my, you know,
- 11:16conscious, maybe subconscious thinking.
- 11:18Well, even though I would say my identities in Christ and my
- 11:22identities and what he did for me on the cross, I still feel
- 11:25like there were so many days my identity was still partially
- 11:28wrapped. Even when you had 316 on you.
- 11:30Yeah, I would think that was I was so convicted.
- 11:33The world wasn't, I mean, when you were like publicly
- 11:36representing and speak, you know, pointing people to Jesus
- 11:38and the gospel of Jesus Christ, I don't think anyone would have
- 11:41been like that guy isn't, you know, isn't prioritizing Jesus.
- 11:45I love Jesus, I know. I just also love the game and so
- 11:51much about it. And I think God even did a lot
- 11:57with the John 316, not just in telling a story, but in my life
- 12:02of so many times that we put God in a box and we're like, OK,
- 12:05that's a Sunday thing. That's a this thing, that's a
- 12:07Bible study thing. And God's to me, God was like,
- 12:11no, it's an everyday, every moment, non-stop thing.
- 12:15And even after the the playoff game against the Steelers, when
- 12:19all those stats added up to 316 and I finally heard about us
- 12:23going to the press conference. And when I was told, the first
- 12:28thing that I felt was shame, not celebration.
- 12:32Because I knew in my heart, my mind, my attitude in that day
- 12:38was prove the doubters wrong. When sure, we could do this.
- 12:41And I just knew God was pricking my heart saying no, it's so much
- 12:46more than a game. You think that I sent my son to
- 12:49die for a game? And I just think sometimes, even
- 12:54though God might use you for something that you don't deserve
- 12:58and don't earn, but it's not just for the people that see it,
- 13:02it's also in in you. For your own self.
- 13:04Yeah. And I think God did a lot in
- 13:07that in my life with those stories.
- 13:12And yeah, I might have put it in my eyes, but God was like, no,
- 13:15this might be on your, you know, underneath your eyes, but is it
- 13:17really in your heart? It's really hard to find good
- 13:21content to watch with my kids for when they are allowed to
- 13:24have screen time. I'm always on the lookout for
- 13:26low stimulating, story driven and values based kids content.

- 14:55raising you guys in the Philippines, were you
- 14:57homeschooled? How did you get an education and
- 14:59we. Were homeschooled and then when
- 15:00we even when we moved back, I was homeschooled until I went to
- 15:03University of Florida. Awesome, I was homeschooled too,
- 15:05so homeschooled kids are the best.
- 15:08I think they're we know what's going on.
- 15:09Yeah, we're trying to make it. We're trying to not quite as
- 15:12weird, right? Well, we're so weird.
- 15:14Of course, I'm totally weird, but there's so many families
- 15:17that are homeschooling and I think it's just so, so special.
- 15:20I don't believe that it's right for everybody, but I do believe
- 15:23that there are so many families where it is.
- 15:26It is the right thing for them. And for us, it was just really
- 15:30special for so many ways because some of the most important was,
- 15:37you know, my parents thought education is really important.
- 15:40But knowing God's words even more important.
- 15:43And then being able to be a part of of missions with my parents
- 15:46and to have a chance to see the world and not just kind of the
- 15:51bubble in which you grew up in. I think it was such a a unique
- 15:55form of education that I really believe is so important for
- 15:58young people to really have an idea of what's happening around
- 16:01the world, see the world, not just kind of the bubble or the
- 16:04drama in that bubble that we make our whole world.
- 16:07But I think when you see it, I don't know.
- 16:10I think God just so many times does something in it.
- 16:14Like I hear so many, so many, so many stories of people that
- 16:21choose to go on mission trips and God does something in their
- 16:25life. And I really believe God can do
- 16:27anything anywhere, however he wants.
- 16:29He's God and we're not. And so God can show up anywhere.
- 16:33But I just hear so many testimonies of when people
- 16:36choose to go on a mission trip and and God just does something
- 16:40there. And I just I've seen it so many
- 16:42Times Now. It doesn't mean that God can't
- 16:44do something when you're watching Netflix.
- 16:45I just don't hear a lot of stories on it, right.
- 16:47I don't hear a lot of testimonies are man, I was
- 16:49watching Netflix and you know, my life was changed.
- 16:52I just don't hear that a lot. But I do hear a lot that, you
- 16:55know, people are on mission trip.
- 16:57They're serving somewhere and I just hear a lot of testimony.
- 17:00So I think there's something powerful on that.
- 17:03And it's, you know, maybe it's something of kind of getting out
- 17:07of the bubble, getting away from the noise, choosing to serve.
- 17:11And I think sometimes even though our, our intentions
- 17:14aren't pure, because I don't believe our intentions are ever
- 17:17really pure. I really don't because I think
- 17:20even when we want to serve, there's still a part of us
- 17:22that's like, hey, you know, you want to make someone proud or
- 17:25you want to pat on the back or you want to thank you or
- 17:28there's. So I don't really think our
- 17:29intentions are ever pure. I think in the sanctification
- 17:32process, hopefully we're getting closer to that.
- 17:38But I think when we choose to act, there's a there's a
- 17:43reaction that happens in our heart if we choose to do
- 17:47something, go out of our way, choose to serve, choose to love,
- 17:50choose to give, choose to share that God also does something
- 17:54like with every action, there's a reaction.
- 17:56I think when we choose to serve and help people, especially
- 17:59those that can't do anything for us, there's a reaction of our
- 18:02heart that he allows to take place of a softening of it, of a
- 18:06tenderness of a care for it, where somehow in God's economy,
- 18:12it's, it's greater to give than get.
- 18:15It's better to serve than take. And there's something that he
- 18:20does with it where you're like, man, I feel poured out, but I'm
- 18:24also feel so fulfilled. And I just think in God's
- 18:28economy, it's different than ours.
- 18:30It's true. I think that's such a good
- 18:32point. And I think if every person had
- 18:35the opportunity or sought the opportunity because they're out
- 18:37there, the opportunities including with your through your
- 18:40work and the organization's you partner with.
- 18:42And if you look, you can find the need.
- 18:44There is an opportunity for everyone to serve and get out of
- 18:47your comfort zone or your bubble I.
- 18:49Think it's really important? The comfort and experience,
- 18:51service and understanding the people that are more vulnerable
- 18:54than yourself and the need they have for you and it is life
- 18:58changing. Yes, it is.
- 18:59As it as it was for you, encourage people.
- 19:01So many other people, even if you're waiting to go on that
- 19:04kind of trip to go somewhere else, we can do it every day
- 19:07wherever we're at, with whoever is in front of us.
- 19:09Like we can see them and we can value them and we can love them
- 19:13and we can encourage them and we can find a way even in our own
- 19:19communities. We were going about our daily
- 19:21basis, but we get so caught up and I know that I have screwed
- 19:24this up over and over. Oh, I'm just going to the store
- 19:27to get this. I'm going to run this errand.
- 19:29I'm going to do this. How many people did I miss along
- 19:31the way that I could have stopped and could have seen and
- 19:34could have just, you know, the, the small little things that you
- 19:37could make such a radical difference in their life if we
- 19:40just saw the people. I mean, actually see them that
- 19:44we come in contact with every single day and we stop to see
- 19:48them and, and value them and love them and share just a word
- 19:51of encouragement. You never know what they're
- 19:53going through and how we have a chance to impact them and how
- 19:56that also impacts us. That's such a good point.
- 19:59I, I, it's even convicting for me today.
- 20:02Earlier I was rushing around, going from one place to the
- 20:05next. And I, I, I did remember at one
- 20:08point I was rushing and I was interacting with someone and
- 20:10like, we were interacting. Already and then I thought in
- 20:13the back of my mind, I didn't even like really see them like
- 20:16slowed and I was like doing transactional work with them.
- 20:19Basically this like a meeting. Basically.
- 20:21I liked if I really seen them ask them how they're doing
- 20:24sincerely slow down for that. But no, I had been rushing.
- 20:27So I did it at the end. It was a little awkward, but I
- 20:29realized like this is that's the whole point of being a Christian
- 20:33is we're in the present moment with our Lord and we're it's
- 20:36receiving his love and giving it to other people.
- 20:38But if we're rushing around like a robot, we miss it.
- 20:42You know, you know, I love in Scripture it's something like
- 20:45goodness, Mike, it's something like maybe 67 times or something
- 20:49like that, that in Scripture it says that Jesus saw people.
- 20:54And I just think it's so important that we stop to see
- 20:58people and truly see them, not what they can do for us, not
- 21:03what they've done in their past or they might do in their
- 21:06future, but to really see their God-given worth and value.
- 21:11And would we actually value that?
- 21:14That when they were created, they were created on purpose and
- 21:19for purpose. That they were created in love
- 21:21and by love and for love. That they were created in the
- 21:24image of God. That he loves them enough to
- 21:29create them in his image. What if we saw people as wow,
- 21:36you are made in God's image. What if we saw people that way?
- 21:42It in my opinion, it would radically and totally change our
- 21:45actions for that person. But so many times I don't, I see
- 21:49them for what they've done or they might do or what they're
- 21:52doing in the moment, or we we see them from a earthly point of
- 21:57view rather than from a godly worth and value point of view
- 22:03that God values them enough to send his Son to the cross.
- 22:07That's how valuable they are to him.
- 22:09Wow. They must have incredible worth
- 22:11and value. Am I going to really see that or
- 22:14am I just going to see through my fleshly eyes that I'm color
- 22:18blind so I don't even see good anyways?
- 22:20Yeah. You're you are color.
- 22:22I am color blind. Yeah.
- 22:23Wow. Well, I want to know how this
- 22:26works for you because you, you obviously have been extremely
- 22:28successful in sports. You played three sports in high
- 22:31school. We were talking before this and
- 22:33then you ended up doing 2 sports professionally.
- 22:34Very successful. You, you, you said a couple.
- 22:37Times say that to all the teams I've been cut by, but.
- 22:39All right, well, he was very successful.
- 22:41All right, guys, everyone, you know, you have a lot of fans.
- 22:43A lot of fans. But then you were saying you had
- 22:47this sense of, I didn't say call it an idol, but it was a big
- 22:51focus of yours. Competition success.
- 22:54You were very driven and you achieved a lot, you know,
- 22:56actually doing 2 sports professionally.
- 22:58I don't know how many people do that.
- 22:59That's kind of unusual, right? It seems on you.
- 23:02I mean to be that to do them both successfully is is very
- 23:05difficult and to do them professionally, not that I must
- 23:07people listener like well, you know nothing about sports.
- 23:10But anyways, the point here is you during that time, though you
- 23:14were you're a devout Christian open about your faith.
- 23:17You were you know, John 316 and started this trend on your face.
- 23:20Everyone saw it. It gave glory to God, but you're
- 23:23saying even throughout that time you felt like you weren't fully
- 23:27abandoned to God, and that's something that you had to work
- 23:30on. I think that every day, what's
- 23:34so important and Scripture remind us is that we need the
- 23:37renewing of our mind and we have to have that.
- 23:40Even when you know Jesus and you love him and he's done a lot in
- 23:44your life, it's still very easy, at least for me, to not him,
- 23:48have him as #1 on the throne. Sometimes we're like, take him
- 23:53off. But no, Jesus, I still love you.
- 23:55But you're like second or third right now because I'm going to
- 23:57put this game here or I'm going to put this want here.
- 23:59I'm going to put this need here. I'm put this success here rather
- 24:03than having him on the throne as #1 in your mind that day.
- 24:07I kind of view it may be similar to like how the the fight
- 24:11against humility and pride. So it's a day-to-day.
- 24:13It's a day-to-day thing. It's a moment by moment thing.
- 24:17Because you know, we talk about humility.
- 24:20I, I love talking about it because I think it's so hard,
- 24:22but I think it's so important. Like James tells us that God
- 24:25gives grace to the humble, but as opposed to the proud.
- 24:28And it's like, man, I, I don't want God to post to me, but how
- 24:32many times do I know that I have been, my pride has been building
- 24:36over something of whatever that is.
- 24:39And I think it's a constant daily battle.
- 24:41It's not like a one time, Oh, I got it, I got it fixed.
- 24:44You read it. It's a daily battle.
- 24:46And I think the same is with our priorities.
- 24:48It is a daily battle of, of our needs, of our want.
- 24:53Do we really like in this day? Do we really want and need Jesus
- 24:59more than anything else today? How do you stay humble then?
- 25:02What's, what's been your practice?
- 25:05I mean, you're no longer the cross.
- 25:07The cross. Yeah, more than anything is the
- 25:09cross. Thinking about our Lord on the.
- 25:11Cross the cross and. What he did for us.
- 25:13Yes, I think it's because it's the only thing that changes
- 25:16everything about everything. And so a lot of modern day
- 25:24psychologists talk about humility as an accurate view of
- 25:27oneself. And I think I find that very
- 25:30interesting because growing up you hear humility in a lot of
- 25:33different definitions for it. And so the last few years been
- 25:36really thinking about that. And when I take an accurate view
- 25:40of myself, many times it's not a pretty picture because I know my
- 25:45worst days, my worst actions, my worst words, my worst thoughts.
- 25:51And then when I think about Jesus going to the cross, I
- 25:57nailed him to the cross. My sins did.
- 26:01And the whips that with them should be named after me.
- 26:06And one of my favorite ways to talk about the good news of the
- 26:10gospel is that it's the greatest love story rescue mission of all
- 26:14time that Jesus came to do for us what we could not do for
- 26:17ourselves. And because of my sin, he came
- 26:25and did that. And I think that the the more
- 26:30that we we grow and in love with Jesus, in love with the God's
- 26:34Word, in love with the Gospel, I feel like the more he makes us
- 26:41tender to those things where our our sin and our wants and our
- 26:47pride and our ego and all of these things, I think we become
- 26:51even more aware of it where we're like man this.
- 26:54Is worse than I thought. Yes.
- 26:56No, it's true. Worse than I thought it's true,
- 26:58the more so it's so it's so easy, especially I think even
- 27:01growing up in church that we're kind of like, oh, church is like
- 27:04you're like sort of average and you get a little bit better
- 27:07because you go to church. That's not Christianity.
- 27:09Right. Or I'm generally trying to live
- 27:10by the book I'm. Generally.
- 27:12Trying to do the right. Christianity is I, I was dead
- 27:15and now I'm alive in Christ. I was lost and now I'm found.
- 27:19I was sick and I'm at the healer.
- 27:22There is a gravity to the gospel.
- 27:24There's a weight to the gospel and three, three of the things
- 27:29that I like to think about with the good news of the gospel is
- 27:33what I've been safe from. Like it's not averaged to a
- 27:37little bit better. No, it's dead and separated from
- 27:41the God of this universe, separated from Jesus for
- 27:45eternity, like separated from our creator.
- 27:49There's a weight and a gravity to that.
- 27:51Like what I've been saved from is it's, it's, it's such a big
- 27:56deal, like eternal separation, It's such a big deal.
- 28:03And then I think about who we have been saved by.
- 28:05What a king that we serve. What a king that didn't want to
- 28:09go to the cross, but did it anyways.
- 28:12And is saying, God, if there's another way, sweating drops of
- 28:14blood, like he's fully God and fully man and that fully man's
- 28:18like man. I don't want to go experience
- 28:20the most excruciating death that mankind could come up with.
- 28:25Yeah, it's not my Jesus is saying to God, it's not my will,
- 28:29but thy will be done. And he does it anyways because
- 28:32he wants to fulfill the will of Father and because he loves us
- 28:34so much, he's willing to do this.
- 28:36What a king would do that what a king that we serve.
- 28:40And then what we've been saved for, and we really think about
- 28:43it, we've been saved by who? What we've been saved from, who
- 28:45we've been saved by what we've been saved for.
- 28:47What we've been saved for is yes, restoration and
- 28:50reconciliation with God, but also the good works that God has
- 28:56prepared for us to walk in. And Ephesians 210 tells us, And
- 29:00when I think about that, I just, it helps me remember the weight
- 29:03of it, the the blessing of the burden of it.
- 29:07That we would have a a that we would really have a burden for
- 29:11the loss and for the suffering that we would have a burden that
- 29:14everyone would hear the good news that they would know how
- 29:17loved they are, that they would know what the king has done for
- 29:19them. That we would go strive to live
- 29:22out imperfectly, but strive to live out about those good works
- 29:25that God has in store for each one of us.
- 29:27And, and I just think the the more that we grow with Christ,
- 29:33the more it becomes so darn personal to us that it is so
- 29:38personal. And so, yeah, I think the the at
- 29:45least what God's used in my life is, is the cross because it's,
- 29:51it's everything. And I remember hearing I was at
- 29:55a speaking event like a decade ago and I was talking to this
- 29:57little nun and I was asking her, she was, she was giving me a
- 30:02actually a little like cross, you know, and I just held it.
- 30:06And then I asked her. I felt inspired.
- 30:07It was definitely a Holy Spirit moment.
- 30:08I said, how do you stay humble to her?
- 30:11Like, where do you get your, this your beautiful humility
- 30:13from? And she was like pointing or
- 30:15just like, you know, obviously the cross and she's look at the
- 30:18cross or at least a minute just staring at physically an image
- 30:22of the cross. And I think about what Jesus did
- 30:24for me. And if we can look at the cross,
- 30:27it changes your whole life because you realize what this
- 30:29life is all about. And you also understand who you
- 30:31are because humility, I think that's the modern psychologist.
- 30:34That's interesting what you said.
- 30:35I do think that there's an element of truth to that.
- 30:38It is reality. Humility is connected to the
- 30:40truth of who you are. But obviously the modern world
- 30:43totally doesn't understand who we are, and we learn who we are
- 30:47from God. Yeah, we learn.
- 30:48Who we need to be from God. We learn how our identity
- 30:51changes because of the relationship with Christ and how
- 30:57our identity changes. One example that I like to use
- 31:00sometimes is like if I pulled out my ID, it would say, you
- 31:04know, Timothy, Richard Tebow, and it would say, you know the
- 31:10state of Florida. It would have an expiration date
- 31:12on it. I was going to say Social
- 31:14Security, lift it up there. I'm just kidding.
- 31:17If I pulled out my spiritual ID, it's a son of the king, the king
- 31:22of the world who have forever reigned.
- 31:24And it's not Florida, says heaven on that one.
- 31:27And there's no expiration date. And that's not because of
- 31:30anything that I could or have ever done.
- 31:33It's not based on my works. For by grace we have been saved
- 31:37through faith is not of our works.
- 31:38It is the gift of God. So we can't boast about it, but
- 31:41we can boast on one thing. We get to Bose on Jesus and what
- 31:45he has done and if we really believe the cross.
- 31:53I would go back to say this. I I think that I've been so
- 32:01convicted and ashamed so many times of how many times in my
- 32:05life that I have not share the gospel with people.
- 32:08I've not talked to people, I've not shared with him, I've not
- 32:11treated them the way that I should.
- 32:13What are your practices? And by the way, I met one of
- 32:16your guys that you're working with who literally travels with
- 32:19you to study the Bible. His full time job is to study
- 32:22the Bible with you. So that's immediately to me,
- 32:25that's a sign of a seriousness of I'm going to make my faith
- 32:28first because with your professional work and your, you
- 32:31know, philanthropy and your ministry, it's like I'm going to
- 32:34physically have a full time person just to study the Lord,
- 32:38which is very cool. I love that.
- 32:39Thank you. Like we should have one of those
- 32:41around the studio. The thing is that it's just so,
- 32:44so important and we invest in so many other areas of our life.
- 32:48Why would we not try to invest in trying to grow in our
- 32:52knowledge and understanding and depth and love for the Lord?
- 32:56And I just think it's so important and I just wish I
- 33:00would have done it a lot earlier.
- 33:02How long has he been traveling with you now?
- 33:05Well, we've had this role for probably about six years now.
- 33:09Wow. So something like that ish.
- 33:12Same guy. No, there's one before.
- 33:16OK. Yeah.
- 33:17And and so this is one of the things that you've invested in.
- 33:20You made the choice. I'm going to study the Bible,
- 33:24study God, basically learn my faith deeply so that I can live
- 33:28it. Did you know that your health

- 34:57What are some of the other practices that you have so that
- 35:00you can be all out for the gospel in everything that you
- 35:03do? Well, I that's a good question.
- 35:06I think it's probably a little bit something different every
- 35:10day, but I think there's some also some main things we try to
- 35:13focus on. So one of those would be our non
- 35:16negotiables for our foundation, for our for profit side, for our
- 35:22family. The non negotiables to me are
- 35:26things. Why we call them non negotiables
- 35:28is because they're never something that we want to be
- 35:31willing to negotiate on. They're that important.
- 35:34And there's five non negotiables #1 is that we're believers.
- 35:38We're believers in a big God. We're believers in a son Jesus.
- 35:41We're believers in what he did on the cross for us.
- 35:44We're believers that we're here for a reason and for a purpose.
- 35:47And I think all of those things are so important because it's
- 35:51you. We have to remind ourselves of
- 35:53their, of that every single day of what a big God we serve.
- 35:57Because when you believe you serve a big God, then you're
- 35:59also going to dream a lot bigger dreams, have a lot bigger
- 36:02visions, have a lot bigger goals, believe that God can show
- 36:05up. And so many times we kind of put
- 36:06God in a box on like Sunday and we're like, I don't know, you
- 36:09know, but we serve a big God. We're serve a God that spoke all
- 36:13of this into existence like, and so we, we want to use those
- 36:17words and repeat those words and talk about those words that we
- 36:20serve a big God. We, we and we believe in a big
- 36:24God. We believe in a son Jesus, what
- 36:26he did that accounted for us, a reminder every day that that
- 36:29counted for us that we were going to talk about that, that
- 36:33we want to share that with one another.
- 36:35We want to encourage each other with that.
- 36:36And we're believers that we're here for a reason, on purpose
- 36:39and for a purpose. Like I believe that's something
- 36:42that we need to put in practice every day because to rejoice and
- 36:45be glad that that he has me here for such a time as this on
- 36:48purpose and for purpose. What does purpose mean?
- 36:50The reason something is done, use, created or exist.
- 36:53I am here because God has a a real purpose, the reason I am
- 36:57here. And and so let me strive to go
- 36:59live that out. I'm not here by happenstance or
- 37:02accident like and I think there's just gives a awakeness
- 37:05of Verity and a seriousness to that.
- 37:08And so that's just kind of how we we talk about that, how we're
- 37:11believers and then leads us to the second one is everyone is
- 37:16made in God's image. And so when we believe, the
- 37:20first one, we're believers in all these things.
- 37:23And the second one that everyone is made in God's image, that
- 37:28that also helps force us to serve God, not play God.
- 37:35And then our third one is that we're on a rescue mission.
- 37:39And we mean that in the the fight against trafficking,
- 37:42exploitation, child sacrifice, all of these things.
- 37:45But that first comes because that's the the good news of the
- 37:50Gospel, why Jesus showed up on the scene was on a rescue
- 37:54mission for humanity. And but what it also forces you
- 37:58to do when you use language like that is it forces us to live
- 38:02with a sense of urgency, living on other people's timeline, not
- 38:07our timeline. It's so easy to get caught up in
- 38:10our timeline of I think I'm only this, Oh, what I can do this and
- 38:14one day I'm going to do this. And it forces us to live a this
- 38:17is the day life, not a one day life.
- 38:19Because when you when you mention rescue mission, what
- 38:26does it mean? Like it's in terms, it means
- 38:29that there's someone in trouble that urgently needs help.
- 38:33And when's the last time you heard of a rescue mission that's
- 38:35going to take place in five years?
- 38:37You don't. When you hear a rescue mission,
- 38:40it is something that is urgent. It is someone in trouble is
- 38:43someone that needs help and they need it now.
- 38:46We have to respond and we have to respond now.
- 38:49And so that's the reason we use language like this is so we can
- 38:52coach and encourage and challenge one another.
- 38:55Hey, we're believers. Everyone is made as God's image
- 38:57and we see people suffering. If that are made in God's image,
- 39:00it forces you to be on a rescue mission to respond urgently now
- 39:04and then. Our 4th non negotiable is that
- 39:06there's power when we come together.
- 39:08So if we believe that in a big God, believe in a son Jesus,
- 39:13believe we're here for a purpose, then we see people that
- 39:15were created his image. We see them suffering.
- 39:19We go into a a state of want to do whatever we can on this
- 39:23rescue mission forum. But then if you want to get to
- 39:25as many as possible, what do you do?
- 39:29You build a team of people, you partner with people, there's
- 39:32power. We come together that we would
- 39:34also work together so we could get to as many as possible that
- 39:37are suffering, that are hurting, that need to hear the good news
- 39:40of gospel, need to know their love, need to know their worth,
- 39:42need to know their value. And so it rallies us to to work
- 39:46with as many people as possible because ultimately the goal is
- 39:49not for me to get to as many suffering people.
- 39:53It's for us to do it. It's not about me or you.
- 39:56It's about all of us because some reason God allows us to be
- 40:00on his team. It's not my team.
- 40:02It's not your team, it's his team.
- 40:04And so that we would be so blessed that he would allow us
- 40:08to be on his team. Like, are you freaking kidding
- 40:11me? It's it's like the craziest
- 40:13thought when you really think about it, that God doesn't need
- 40:15us, but he wants us to be on his team as ambassadors for him.
- 40:21As though Christ were making an appeal through US.
- 40:23Scripture tells us like what that's surreal and so we go
- 40:27we're believers everyone is made in God's image.
- 40:29We're on a rescue mission. There's power will come together
- 40:31and then our last non negotiable is to remember do not forget.
- 40:36I believe it's 22 times in Deuteronomy.
- 40:40The author reminds us to remember, do not forget.
- 40:43Why? Well, when you look at it, that
- 40:48the Israelites were rescued out of Egypt and God performed all
- 40:54of these miracles. But what happened when you
- 40:56started to get to the next generation?
- 40:58They forgot, they forgot God's faithfulness.
- 41:02They forgot what God had done and they start to worship other
- 41:05things. They start to go astray.
- 41:07And I mean, if if we had a conversation, we're like, look
- 41:13at what all of God's done and you know, and our lives look at
- 41:18what we got to see God's hand do we got to see and perform these
- 41:21miracles. Like there's no chance.
- 41:23Like if I got to see God parked the Red Sea that I would like
- 41:27not tell Daphne every Hey, Daphne every.
- 41:30Well, look at what God's we got did all of this.
- 41:32This is crazy. You think it would just be
- 41:34passed down over and over like you if someone said like, Oh,
- 41:37you know, don't forget that I've been quick talk.
- 41:39Of course I'm not going to. How old is Daphne?
- 41:41Just over? Seven months.
- 41:42They're like Daphne. You got to remember this of.
- 41:44Course right, but but how easy it?
- 41:47Is it for us? How easy is it for me to forget
- 41:50what God's done? So true.
- 41:51And that's like the psalmist. David is always talking about
- 41:54remember what the Lord has done and he's always and he's always
- 41:57calling to memory what the Lord has done.
- 41:59That's part of how he praises him and refreshes his mind,
- 42:02renews his hope, yes, puts his trust in the Lord, yes.
- 42:04I think that's a a habit that most Christians, including
- 42:07myself, are not practicing enough because we don't think
- 42:10about what he's done for us personally and we don't think
- 42:12what he's done for us collectively, Yes, because we're
- 42:15so doing our thing. That's right.
- 42:17And so that's why we. Call them our non negotiables
- 42:19and that's one way we try to put in practice is to remember and
- 42:23talk about and strive to live out or non negotiables.
- 42:26But for you like especially 'cause you're on the.
- 42:28Road, you've got your beautiful wife Demi.
- 42:30She's also doing amazing. Ministry.
- 42:32We've got little Daphne now. She's seven months old.
- 42:35I want to walk through some of the different parts in your
- 42:37ministry because I'm I'm a huge fan of of all the things you're
- 42:41doing. But I'm just curious for you
- 42:43personally, those are your non negotiables.
- 42:45You're traveling with the Bible scholar.
- 42:47You know, I'm sure prayer is a part of your daily life.
- 42:49Are there other practices that you recommend others or that you
- 42:53have have helped you? Like do you say, Hey, I want to
- 42:56make sure I pray for 20 minutes a day?
- 42:58Or do you have things that you try to do on a daily basis?
- 43:00I guess it's probably really tough when you're traveling and
- 43:03you're like switching time zones and things.
- 43:05Like that? You know, there's different.
- 43:08Ways that we go through the Bible at different times,
- 43:11different stages. Sometimes it's you go through a
- 43:13Bible in a year. Sometimes we'll go through the
- 43:15gospel. Sometimes we're studying, you
- 43:16know, different things. So I think that's constantly
- 43:18changing, but I think it's really important that you're,
- 43:23you know, going through something that's leading you,
- 43:25you there in, in different ways. Now, there's a lot of different
- 43:30options that I think are really good, that's compelling for
- 43:33people. Sometimes we'll go through the
- 43:34Bible and then we'll follow it up with some commentary to
- 43:38understand and learn more. I think that can be really good
- 43:40and helpful. You know, there's a lot of
- 43:43programs that can be helpful as well when you're trying to study
- 43:46and and look it up in Greek or Hebrew as well.
- 43:49I think there's a lot of different options.
- 43:51You know, sometimes some of the different really translations
- 43:55that, you know, study Bible or some of the application Bibles
- 43:59can help bring it to life for a lot of people.
- 44:03We really like that. We'll sometimes we go to a lot
- 44:06of different translations that are, you know, OK, we'll read
- 44:10John 1 here, read it here, read it here, you know, kind of talk
- 44:14and like talk through it. What does it mean?
- 44:17I think that's really helpful, having the conversations.
- 44:21Do you do Lent? Are you doing anything for Lent?
- 44:24Not necessarily. Right now just started yesterday
- 44:28doing that I was. Telling a friend, well, so
- 44:29yesterday was Ash Wednesday and I was telling a friend yesterday
- 44:32about it and she's like, I don't usually do let.
- 44:34And then this morning she's like, I'm going to do Lent and I
- 44:37was like, what are you doing? What do you mean you're going to
- 44:39do let And she's doing this special scripture reading.
- 44:41Like I think she's going through Matthew and praying about, you
- 44:44know, preparing because Lent's the 40 days before Easter.
- 44:47So we just started at my my plan for Lent.
- 44:50Besides actually making time for quiet prayer each day, which is
- 44:53always a stroke because I've got 3 little kids and you know, it's
- 44:55always kind of crazy at life is gets crazy.
- 44:58Is no phone in the evening or the morning OK in in the bed,
- 45:03basically in the bedroom like because like I'm on my phone
- 45:07sometimes at night, like before bed.
- 45:09And then when I wake up, I'll take grab my phone.
- 45:11Bad habit because my first thoughts are not the Lord if I
- 45:15do that and my last thoughts of the day are not with God if I do
- 45:19that. They're like whatever's worldly
- 45:21thing I'm dealing with on my phone.
- 45:23So those are my little things. But I found when I travel, I do
- 45:27not travel as much as you, not nearly as much.
- 45:29But I found that also can really throw me off in just, you know,
- 45:33reminding myself of God every day and or prayer practices and
- 45:37things like that. I guess if you're traveling with
- 45:38your Bible scholar, it's a lot easier to make practice, you
- 45:42know, Bible study part of the part of the daily bread.
- 45:45I also really believe. And you know, I believe one of
- 45:48the books that doesn't get talked about probably enough is
- 45:50Proverbs. Great book.
- 45:53I love. I'm so grateful too that not
- 45:56only are my parents just awesome mom and dad, but they're also
- 46:00two of my biggest heroes and they just made a big emphasis
- 46:05and proverbs. And I know I didn't focus near
- 46:09as much as when they are making us memorize it, but did they
- 46:13make you memorize the whole we had to?
- 46:14Memorize a lot of different. Chapters of Proverbs growing up
- 46:18go to go to the aunt and you sluggard.
- 46:19Observe for ways and be wise with having no.
- 46:21Chief Officer Ruler prepares her food in the summer and gathers
- 46:24her provision in the harvest. How long will you lie down?
- 46:26A slugger, a low sleep, low slumber, low floating hands to
- 46:28rest. And your poverty will come in
- 46:30like a Vagabond, your knee like an army, and a worthless person,
- 46:32a wicked man. It's one who walks with false
- 46:34mouth, winks with his eyes, with signals will be with perversing
- 46:37his heart devises evil continually want to spread
- 46:39strife so good you're like get up now to go to.
- 46:43Go practice, but the heart of that.
- 46:46Wasn't because I wanted to memorize it, it was because my
- 46:49parents wouldn't let me go play if I didn't and like when go
- 46:53play sports and I'm just so grateful for that because I knew
- 46:57how to do anything to go play. So they forced us to memorize.
- 47:01My siblings, I think, hated me for a while because they really
- 47:04had to do it because I was a very arrogant young T baller
- 47:09that wanted to tell everybody how good I was and what I could
- 47:11do. And so they forced us to
- 47:13memorize a lot of proverbs and forced me to also memorize a lot
- 47:16of scripture versus on humility like the one we just talked
- 47:19about in James Ford. God gives grace to the humble
- 47:21but as opposed to the proud. But I just am.
- 47:25So does it come to mind by the way, like because.
- 47:27You, I mean, I grew up similarly, parents having us
- 47:31memorize scripture and it just comes to mind really, which is a
- 47:33gift right in your daily. It does come to mind.
- 47:36But you know, it's also comes to mind a lot is my mom's singing
- 47:41scripture to me like so, so, so many games more so even on the
- 47:48losses or disappointments, I could hear my mom's voice in my
- 47:53head saying, yeah, Timmy, give it to the Lord.
- 47:56Will you give it to him? He can handle it.
- 47:58Cast your burdens upon him because he cares for you and and
- 48:04just am beyond grateful for that.
- 48:08And my dad's emphasis in in Proverbs was also just so
- 48:11awesome of just always telling us he who walks with wise we
- 48:15will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
- 48:18And in a multitude of counselors, there's wisdom,
- 48:21there's wisdom. And so I think to also.
- 48:23Answer some of. Your question is, you know, one
- 48:27of the things that Demi always loves to say is you don't get to
- 48:32control who speaks about your life, but you do get to control
- 48:36who speaks into your life. And to have that wise counsel
- 48:41that is going to be iron that sharpens iron that's going to
- 48:43speak into your life and challenge and convict and have
- 48:47those people around you. And also be willing to say and
- 48:51be willing to be open to that. Like not have people that are
- 48:55going to just say yes, but have people that are going to speak
- 48:59that into you and, and challenge you and convict you and tell you
- 49:05when you're good, but tell you when you're an idiot too.
- 49:08And I think that's just really, really, really, really, really
- 49:11important. How did you start?
- 49:13When did? You start night to shine.
- 49:15So this was our 12th year. Celebrating it and for our five
- 49:19year anniversary of Night to shine, our, sorry, our five year
- 49:23anniversary of the foundation, our president at the time came
- 49:27to me and said, Hey, since we're serving people with special
- 49:29needs here in the States and, and other countries around the
- 49:32world and, and serving them with the hospital and serving them
- 49:36with, you know, different clinics and areas that we serve.
- 49:42What about if instead of just having like a dinner or
- 49:45celebration or something, what if we had, we knew 2 churches
- 49:50that had a, they called it a Jesus prom.
- 49:53And we're friends with both those pastors and one of those
- 49:56pastors just been a really great mentor for me and my wife for a
- 49:59long time. And they had this Jesus prom.
- 50:01He's like, what if we did something like that as a way to
- 50:04celebrate our five year anniversary?
- 50:07And I was like, that sounds awesome.
- 50:09He's like, OK, cool, where would you want to do it?
- 50:12Would you want to do it like in Florida and California and Texas
- 50:14and New York where, you know, overseas, where would you want
- 50:17to do it? And I said, I said I think we
- 50:20need to do it everywhere. And he's like, no, I like, stop
- 50:23being stupid. Where do you, where do you want
- 50:25to do it? And I was like, no, I, I feel
- 50:28like we need to do it everywhere.
- 50:29For every boy or girl that's never been celebrated, that
- 50:31doesn't know their real worth or their value.
- 50:34We should try to do it for as many as we can.
- 50:37And he's like, no, seriously. And I was like, I, I think I'm
- 50:41being serious. And he wasn't really happy with
- 50:45me at the time. And so we, we took it to our,
- 50:48our board and our leadership team presenting the idea no name
- 50:52at this time for it. And we started praying about it.
- 50:55And everybody felt like it's, we need to try.
- 50:58And so we came up with the manual or thinking how could we
- 51:01possibly try to do this for as many as we can.
- 51:04And and we thought, well, the the local church, the local
- 51:09church is is what an Ave. to get them involved in this
- 51:16celebration of life of celebration of so many lives
- 51:19have never been celebrated before, never really been
- 51:21cheered for, never walked down a red carpet and been known as VIP
- 51:25as very important people taking pictures and getting their
- 51:28makeup. Done and special celebration and
- 51:31clapping and everything else and so we.
- 51:34So we prayed about it, put together the manual, send it out
- 51:37to churches. And I believe that first year we
- 51:39had 44 locations in 26 states in three countries.
- 51:43And we that the night of night to shine salt on one night
- 51:46around the world. And we do make exceptions for
- 51:48different reasons, but we try to have it on one night.
- 51:51And we decided we're going to have it the Friday before
- 51:53Valentine's because Valentine's is.
- 51:56I'm not against it. We celebrate it, but it's a time
- 51:59when there's a lot of like self gratifying love in it.
- 52:03And we what about if we had it the Friday before and we tried
- 52:06to make it more about a sacrificial form of love, God's
- 52:10style of love. And so we flew to North Carolina
- 52:14for the the first one and got there early.
- 52:18And I just asked some of the team to stay back about 30
- 52:21yards. And I stood back there and
- 52:22watched and, and watched some of the first kings and Queens,
- 52:25because they're all crowned as kings and Queens go down the red
- 52:28carpet. And I just stood there and, and
- 52:31just started to weep at watching the kings and Queens, watching
- 52:35their families, their brothers and sisters, their moms, their
- 52:38dads, and watching all of the volunteers on the red carpet.
- 52:43And I just had this feeling that was just of, of such fulfilment
- 52:48and also challenge of that everybody, everybody needs to
- 52:57know their God-given worth. And then we left there a little
- 53:01bit later and we flew to North SC same night.
- 53:05And we're walking in that venue and a mom comes running out to
- 53:09me and she grabs me by my suit jacket and she pulls me to the
- 53:12side and she's crying. And she says, my daughter, she's
- 53:15never going to get married and she's never going to have kids.
- 53:18But tonight she felt like a Princess.
- 53:20And it was just, it's just, I was like, OK, I think we're, I
- 53:24think we're doing, I think we're on to something here.
- 53:27And that first year we just, we're kind of overwhelmed by
- 53:33what God did. And we knew we were supposed to
- 53:36do this every year. And so the next year we're in
- 53:38201 locations and then 375 in every year.
- 53:42It's just been growing and aren't you at like 1000?
- 53:45We're just. Under 1000 when you get.
- 53:47To 1000 next year, next year you're going to blow right past
- 53:50IT97678 and 76 countries in all 50 States and got to celebrate
- 53:58over 120,000 kings and Queens with over 200,000 volunteers.
- 54:02And you know, there is there is some ideas that we had for it,
- 54:07but I think my favorite thing about it is all the all the
- 54:12things we never thought of that God did with it that we never
- 54:17thought of. Like like, for example, so many
- 54:25the the areas that we've been able to have night to shine.
- 54:30So many countries where faith's not really allowed, but they've
- 54:35allowed night to shine. Like what?
- 54:38What would be an example? Like countries that.
- 54:42They're not allowed to. They're hard for churches.
- 54:43To get involved like a Saudi. Arabia like places.
- 54:46That are very difficult. To get churches involved, but
- 54:49yet they've allowed night to shine.
- 54:52Some of them have done it on national television in their
- 54:54country. That we've had heads of state
- 54:58and people that have run countries that have been there.
- 55:02And because they have a daughter or son that has a special need
- 55:07and they've never had a place for them to go be celebrated.
- 55:10Or those that have been a part of of crime organizations that
- 55:17have never had a place to send their daughter, son, and they've
- 55:20sent them and been a part of night to shine.
- 55:23We've had families that have come from over well over 20
- 55:28hours away to be a part of it. Or villages that have viewed
- 55:33individuals with special needs as cursed.
- 55:35And they've watched us carry kids in all night and celebrate
- 55:39them. And then the village comes and
- 55:41says, Hey, we've always seen these people as the the trash of
- 55:47our community and you treated them as treasure.
- 55:51Do you think next year we can be part of it?
- 55:54Just so many things that and we don't live in an honor shame
- 55:58culture here, but a lot of the world still lives in an honor
- 56:02shame culture. And and so many moms and dads
- 56:06have come up to us and and said before or during after night to
- 56:11shine or around some of the festivities, like in in tears,
- 56:16like we've kept our kids tied up or chained up.
- 56:19We kept them in the basement because we've always been told
- 56:23they brought shame to the family.
- 56:24You can't bring them out. Don't bring them into daylight,
- 56:27but you are celebrating them. And that means we can too.
- 56:32And it's just so many of the testimonies or we were told to
- 56:36drowned our little girl. We were told to suffocate him
- 56:39because they use curse and Hebrew shame to our family.
- 56:43But now we know it's not shame that God loves him too.
- 56:46And it's just been so many things we never thought of that
- 56:49God has done more than we could ask or imagine around it.
- 56:53And it's just really humbling that God would allow us to just
- 56:57be a part of that. It's so beautiful.
- 57:00I think about US, we don't live in honor shame culture like you
- 57:03said, but we live in convenience culture.
- 57:06Yes, we do. And so it's not so much.
- 57:07About the child would. Bring shame as much as the child
- 57:09would be really inconvenient and it would be really tough and and
- 57:14I think in the. US one of the things that's also
- 57:16radically impacted me is is just the volunteers that that you
- 57:23know, we put so much thought into the kings and the Queens.
- 57:28But then what's impacted me so much is so many of the
- 57:31volunteers that have said this is one of the best nights of my
- 57:36life. I want to be part of this and
- 57:39God's just been so much in that area.
- 57:41And then one of my favorites is then the parents and the
- 57:44caregivers at one of our night to shines.
- 57:47Just this last week in Africa that we were at, there was this
- 57:51daughter that is a a young lady and she carried her mom.
- 57:59And because her mom has severe special needs and she carried
- 58:04her mom for a long ways on her back to bring her mom tonight to
- 58:10shine. And I was just like, Oh my gosh,
- 58:13I, I got one of the translators, one of the pastors.
- 58:16And it's just what you tell her. Thank you so much for being such
- 58:20a good daughter and loving her mom so much.
- 58:24I was just, it was surreal to me to watch that because, you know,
- 58:29so many times we have these ideas of just young people, but
- 58:32we've had people in their 90s that have had special needs that
- 58:36have been a part of the night to shine and say to us my whole
- 58:39life, I've never been cheered for.
- 58:42I've never been clapped for. I've never had an applause in my
- 58:45life. And and, you know, I think so
- 58:51often, you know, we've been so blessed to, you know, have
- 58:54people that have cheered for us and encouraged us along the way.
- 58:58What about those that have never had that?
- 59:00Your whole life, you have just been felt like a burden or a
- 59:03weight or a less than than your family and your brothers and
- 59:07sisters. But now you're the one on the
- 59:10red carpet as the VIP, as the king or the queen, not just
- 59:15because some Americans feel like that, but because that's how the
- 59:19God of this universe sees you every day of your life.
- 59:22And it's just been really sweet to see what God's done.
- 59:26It's so beautiful. What?
- 59:27What? Are the things just for folks to
- 59:29know? I mean, there's a red carpet,
- 59:31there's photography, it's what are.
- 59:32The it's a little different in every.
- 59:34What are some of the components typically that are?
- 59:37You guys are sure there's some that we really.
- 59:39Emphasize red carpet because all around the world red carpet
- 59:43signifies VIP yes and, and you know, part of our heart too is
- 59:47not to just have another thing in a country, but to try to have
- 59:51the nicest thing in that country in that community, in that
- 59:53culture, so that they would say you didn't just show up here and
- 59:57give drugs. You showed up here and you gave
- 59:58your best whatever we could do to show that, whatever that is.
- 1:00:03And so that's why the the paparazzi is so important that
- 1:00:06they're we want their photo because that's how important
- 1:00:09they are that they would walk down the red carpet, have the
- 1:00:12lights and the glitz and the glamour to do hair and makeup
- 1:00:14and shoe shining I've done a lot of shoe shining.
- 1:00:16I still don't think I'm good, but I've done.
- 1:00:18And a lot of shoes shining and, and then to crown them at the
- 1:00:21end. And then different places,
- 1:00:23there's different style banquets that they're, it means a lot in
- 1:00:26different cultures. And some they just love dancing
- 1:00:29and they're like, we're dancing the whole night and it's
- 1:00:32amazing. And you sound like wheelchairs
- 1:00:34sometimes on the dance. Floor.
- 1:00:35Oh, all kinds. Yeah, of course we love the.
- 1:00:38It's not just children with, it's children with.
- 1:00:41It's it's children and people. Some people have Down syndrome,
- 1:00:43but it's all kinds of disabilities of certain of the
- 1:00:46countries. We've been in where it's a heavy
- 1:00:48population that are deaf in certain places that we've been,
- 1:00:52it's a heavy population that have club feet, bow legged,
- 1:00:58cleft lip. Certain countries that we've
- 1:01:01been in where there is a lot of open fire.
- 1:01:03So there's a lot of burn patients and and those who have
- 1:01:08had severe trauma that way. So there's a lot of different
- 1:01:11forms of, of special needs and certain countries, there's a lot
- 1:01:16of hydrocephalus and you know, so, so it's just different.
- 1:01:21One of the night shines we were just at was a a lot of scoliosis
- 1:01:27where it's a especially in this area where it's a unique form of
- 1:01:30scoliosis where it really crushes the organs because this
- 1:01:34literally putting so much pressure where begins very hard
- 1:01:37for them to to breathe. And, and now we're so honored
- 1:01:41with our partners at at CURE to be able to have a hospital spine
- 1:01:45center that's serving those as many of those young men and
- 1:01:50women that we can possibly get to.
- 1:01:52And so it's just been really, you know, so many things that we
- 1:01:55never thought of that God's done and just really humble at that.
- 1:01:59We just get to be a part of it. And so a lot of these kids and
- 1:02:02these people. You got to know them in part
- 1:02:04through the medical care that your foundation and your
- 1:02:06partners were already providing. And so that's already this
- 1:02:08network where it's, yeah, celebrating them with night to
- 1:02:11shine. But then there's also a network
- 1:02:13that's helping them otherwise beyond that night where they're
- 1:02:16getting celebrated in that special way.
- 1:02:18Yeah, that's where then from night to shine.
- 1:02:20We learned, OK, well, then we started Shine On, which helps
- 1:02:23equip churches and families and individuals to understand and
- 1:02:27have the best practices. And that's with a lot of other
- 1:02:29nonprofits that are part of that if where we could just share
- 1:02:32best practices, best care, best love for families here in the
- 1:02:37States and then in other countries.
- 1:02:39And again, that changes based on the country, the culture of the
- 1:02:42background, all of the things that you have to take in to
- 1:02:45account with that. But yeah, it's just been.
- 1:02:47And I also would say that night to shine has been the biggest
- 1:02:51door open air for us as a ministry of opening the door for
- 1:02:56the work against trafficking, the work against child
- 1:03:00sacrifice, the work against exploitation.
- 1:03:02That's been a door open air in so many of those other countries
- 1:03:04as well. Can you tell folks?
- 1:03:07Listening what you've learned about trafficking and what
- 1:03:10you're doing now with the foundation to combat it, I
- 1:03:13believe it's one of the worst evils in.
- 1:03:14The world is is human trafficking, sex trafficking,
- 1:03:21forced marriages, organ harvesting, all the above.
- 1:03:26It's just one of the worst evils in the world.
- 1:03:28And, you know, I really believe based on a lot of experts that
- 1:03:32there's probably more people that are being trafficked right
- 1:03:34now around the world than ever before at one time.
- 1:03:39And so it's 50 + 1,000,000 people that are being trafficked
- 1:03:43around the world right now, 50 + 1,000,000.
- 1:03:47And a lot of. The experts would say that's a
- 1:03:49probably low estimate because this is something.
- 1:03:54That is done in the dark. Yeah.
- 1:03:56And so, so hard to get actual numbers of this.
- 1:04:00And this includes sexual exploitation.
- 1:04:01It includes labor exploitation. No, that's, that's trafficking.
- 1:04:05That's. Just trafficking when we talk
- 1:04:06about. Exploitation to.
- 1:04:08Find the difference between like they're not just being.
- 1:04:09Sexually exploitated or exploited to exploited as labor,
- 1:04:13but they're actually being trafficked for that purpose.
- 1:04:15The number one form of trafficking.
- 1:04:17Around the world's labor trafficking in the States, the
- 1:04:20number one form of trafficking is sex trafficking.
- 1:04:24But really under that, when you would think trafficking, you
- 1:04:26would talk about labor trafficking, you would talk
- 1:04:28about sex trafficking, you would talk about forced marriages and
- 1:04:32organ harvesting would really be the main types, the majority of
- 1:04:36trafficking when it comes to exploitation, that's a little
- 1:04:40different. They'd still fall in the same
- 1:04:43bucket of evil, but they're different.
- 1:04:45So the when it comes to human trafficking, that's primarily
- 1:04:52done for profit, what exploitation is primarily done
- 1:04:57for pleasure. So I think it's really important
- 1:04:59when we talk about it because it's sometimes just gets thrown
- 1:05:01all together and then there's like a movie or documentary and
- 1:05:04they kind of just show one form and then people think it's the
- 1:05:06movie taken right. And it's like, you know, but
- 1:05:10it's there's and there's obviously overlap in, in that,
- 1:05:14but so much of, of trafficking is done for profit that I would
- 1:05:19sell somebody else for my profit, right?
- 1:05:22And if there wasn't such a demand for it like there is in
- 1:05:25the US, you know, like if people didn't want purple shoes, then
- 1:05:32Nike wouldn't keep making perfect purple shoes.
- 1:05:35I don't sound silly to use an example like that.
- 1:05:38But if there wasn't such a demand here, then you know there
- 1:05:41wouldn't be the the same level of it.
- 1:05:44But then exploitation in the form of exploitation, there's
- 1:05:49over 400 million people that are being exploited around the
- 1:05:53world. And under that form of
- 1:05:55exploitation, it could be forms of of physical abuse or
- 1:06:03photography and filming and using that for pleasure to take
- 1:06:06advantage and exploit someone for other people's pleasure or
- 1:06:12for their pleasure. And it's a horrible crime type
- 1:06:16that is also growing rapidly and it is something that is in every
- 1:06:23community in our country right now.
- 1:06:26How did you get passionate about?
- 1:06:28Combating human trafficking. Well put it on the radar for you
- 1:06:33well over a. Decade ago my.
- 1:06:36My dad was in a country teaching pastors where faith isn't really
- 1:06:41allowed in this country, and they were in an underground
- 1:06:44location. He's teaching them and so they
- 1:06:47could go back to their communities and minister.
- 1:06:50And in this underground location, some men injured with
- 1:06:54four little girls and they started to sell these 4 little
- 1:06:57girls in an auction. How old were they?
- 1:07:00They were very young. They were, they were. 9-10
- 1:07:03maybe. Yeah, probably.
- 1:07:06I won't. Remember, every age, but
- 1:07:07probably 6 to 9, six to ten of these, They're not even puberty.
- 1:07:13No, no. No, no, no, not teenage.
- 1:07:14Girls, these are little. Ladies, girls and.
- 1:07:19One of the reasons why my dad is one of my biggest heroes from
- 1:07:22role models is he's just not someone that can look the other
- 1:07:24way. He's not someone that can do
- 1:07:25nothing. Just, it's just not, you know,
- 1:07:28and, and he took out all the money in his wallet, which was
- 1:07:32for the rest of the trip and to get home was about $12150.
- 1:07:36And he was able to purchase the freedom of these four girls.
- 1:07:39What did he do once he purchased?
- 1:07:41Their freedom. Well, he he called.
- 1:07:43Me and he's at 8 and I'm like that how's the, how's the trip
- 1:07:47going? And he's like, that was good,
- 1:07:49you know, blah, blah, blah. So and he tells me what happened
- 1:07:52and I'm like, what? And not long after I got to fly
- 1:07:58to this location. And by that time with some of my
- 1:08:04dad's other other people that were there and some of the other
- 1:08:07people in the ministry, there was already more kids.
- 1:08:09And I'm one of the first little girls that that ran up to me.
- 1:08:15I hear one of the people who tell me her story and she didn't
- 1:08:19make enough money one day and for her mom and and what she was
- 1:08:24her parents trafficked her, her mom her.
- 1:08:26Mom trafficked her and and. She came back home and her mom
- 1:08:30being in such desperation and and really despair took her and
- 1:08:35boiled out her eye and I was just a sweet little girl and out
- 1:08:41of anger or to try to get. Her to be more pitiful to get
- 1:08:45more money because if she thought if she made her look.
- 1:08:47Even worse than she would maybe people have compassion and I was
- 1:08:53just crushed. My heart was broken and we were
- 1:08:56already serving a lot of people that were very vulnerable and
- 1:09:00special needs and orphans and with the hospital and in other
- 1:09:05areas. And then I just, my heart was
- 1:09:09just crushed and broken for it. And I just, I, I, I didn't know
- 1:09:16what to do. I was close to having any
- 1:09:20knowledge of this wasn't and I just, but I knew somehow we have
- 1:09:24to do something and that led us into the fight against
- 1:09:29trafficking. Let us in the fight against
- 1:09:31exploitation and on down the road.
- 1:09:33And it's just, I don't know, Lila.
- 1:09:37I just think it's hard to explain.
- 1:09:38It was just like, God let me see this and be there because it's
- 1:09:45what he wanted me to step into this fight.
- 1:09:48And the way that so many people viewed them still crushes my
- 1:10:01heart and soul to this day. What do you mean?
- 1:10:06That. That they were nothing more to
- 1:10:12some people than a few dollars and just on this trip with one
- 1:10:21of our our partners and and all God's children.
- 1:10:25Amazing ministry. We get to do some ministry with
- 1:10:27in quite a few countries. They were updating me in this
- 1:10:31local in just this, this certain place there that the brokers
- 1:10:35were purchasing a lot of these boys and girls and this is right
- 1:10:39now for on average somewhere between $1.20 to 240.
- 1:10:43Is this for sex trafficking? Specifically in some.
- 1:10:47Of this, what we're talking about, a lot of it was for child
- 1:10:51labor and not the first story I told you of my dad and this one,
- 1:10:56but a lot of that turns into then also sex trafficking and
- 1:11:00then just kind of whatever people want.
- 1:11:02All the stories are very different, but a lot of these
- 1:11:05are were prime in there. I'm just talking about now we're
- 1:11:08primarily for labor trafficking, so they could get cheap labor
- 1:11:12for whatever, but then it also then exploitation adds on to
- 1:11:15that and you get to meet a lot of those boys and girls and
- 1:11:22it's, it changes, it changes you.
- 1:11:26What? What do we do to?
- 1:11:28I mean, with the story with your dad as an example, what happened
- 1:11:31to those girls? Do they get adopted?
- 1:11:33No, we still get to care for them.
- 1:11:37So they're in like a rescue home.
- 1:11:39They're kind of homed in a through the ministry to be we
- 1:11:42get to still care for them. And are you able to share?
- 1:11:47Did they come to the US? Or they're in their home
- 1:11:49country, but through a ministry in the home country to to care
- 1:11:53for them. And provide for them and try to
- 1:11:58give them the protection and the love and the counseling and the
- 1:12:03therapy that they've many have never experienced in their life.
- 1:12:09And, you know, we're fortunate to do that.
- 1:12:11And, and a lot of countries here in the States and other
- 1:12:14countries and, you know, we're fortunate to now I have 46 safe
- 1:12:18homes and 24 more in progress right now.
- 1:12:20And I, it's also very humbling and I think just really special
- 1:12:26for me that I would say that some of my greatest heroes in
- 1:12:30life are some of the survivors that I've met along the way.
- 1:12:35They really are because what they've overcome and what
- 1:12:39they've dealt with and what they've had to face just a lot
- 1:12:46of my favorite people on planet Earth.
- 1:12:48How do you protect them from being?
- 1:12:50Re exploited. Exploited.
- 1:12:52I mean, for example, in the case with the your dad, with those
- 1:12:55little girls, their parents and maybe their abusers or their,
- 1:12:59you know, traffickers are still out there.
- 1:13:01They are every every country and.
- 1:13:03Culture and place is different, and we have to really adjust on
- 1:13:07every location we're at to always try to do what's the
- 1:13:10right thing in that situation. And some countries, you're going
- 1:13:13to have law enforcement that are even more helpful and they're
- 1:13:17going to have social workers that are really helpful and it's
- 1:13:18going to go through that process.
- 1:13:20Some countries that process is extremely broken.
- 1:13:23All right, 'cause sometimes we have the American mindset of
- 1:13:26like what takes place here, but some countries are very
- 1:13:28different. But it's always trying to do it.
- 1:13:31What is what is best in that country with their rules, with
- 1:13:35their regulations, with their system, which also is hard to
- 1:13:38try to, you know, have our team, team try to learn it and always
- 1:13:43buy it. And then it's always trying to
- 1:13:45do whatever is the best in that situation for them.
- 1:13:48And, and then try to prove as best as we can provide a family
- 1:13:57like atmosphere that is full of warmth and love and support and
- 1:14:02care and and nurturing where they can find the, the, the, the
- 1:14:08healing and the trauma informed, the best trauma informed care
- 1:14:12that we could possibly provide. There's a map.
- 1:14:15I want you to. Tell me about this map that you
- 1:14:19have shared before. Yeah.
- 1:14:23So can you explain what this is? Sure, sure.
- 1:14:26I'm just remembering. Which map this is?
- 1:14:28So this is the last 30 days of of CCM that is just in the
- 1:14:33states that distributed. So every one of those red dots
- 1:14:37is a unique IP address that is downloading, sharing and
- 1:14:41distributing on peer-to-peer networks child rape and abuse
- 1:14:47and exploitation images of children under the age of 12.
- 1:14:52And so many of those are so, so bad.
- 1:15:00It's sometimes people think it's just like, oh, just a little bit
- 1:15:04of this. No, it's very drastic and it is
- 1:15:08very evil. And thousands of those will be
- 1:15:11babies and toddlers is horrific. And on this map, there's over
- 1:15:18111,000 unique IP addresses that and that's just a 30 day period
- 1:15:24of it. And we also know that 55 to 85%
- 1:15:29of those based on a lot of research expected especially by
- 1:15:32Doctor Michael Berg are also hands on offenders.
- 1:15:36And also, based on a lot of research, it's also best
- 1:15:41estimated that your average offender has 13 victims in their
- 1:15:44lifetime. So every one of those red dots.
- 1:15:53And this is the last 30 days. Yes, this was the last 30 days
- 1:15:57probably. And April.
- 1:15:59Yeah. But the numbers I've read are.
- 1:16:01Going up with child sexual assault material, it's just
- 1:16:04proliferating. Yes, it is.
- 1:16:05But but just to just to say this again, this one in particular,
- 1:16:08this map, it's 110,000 universe 111,000.
- 1:16:14Unique IP addresses, so those are individual IP.
- 1:16:17Addresses where there's one or more abusers who are consuming
- 1:16:21child sexual assault material and or creating it potentially
- 1:16:25or abusing other kids. We don't know.
- 1:16:27We wouldn't necessarily know Based.
- 1:16:29On this, what we would know is that these would be unique IP
- 1:16:32addresses that on peer-to-peer networks or downloading, sharing
- 1:16:36and distributing child rape images under the age of 12.
- 1:16:41And from our best guess 55 to 85 would be also hands on
- 1:16:46offenders. Because sometimes, you know,
- 1:16:48people would say, well that, you know, they're just distributing
- 1:16:51the information. But we also know those that are
- 1:16:53distributing these videos and, and these abuse and torture and
- 1:16:57bondage of kids, 55 to 85% are also hands on offenders.
- 1:17:02And your average offender also has 13 victims in their
- 1:17:06lifetime. Why haven't the feds?
- 1:17:09Broken down the doors of every home or whatever shack or
- 1:17:15whatever dwelling that these individuals are in and arrested
- 1:17:20these people, there is a lot of amazing.
- 1:17:22Law enforcement that we're so fortunate to work with that I
- 1:17:27look up to that are incredible at what they do.
- 1:17:30If I had to to share a few reasons why not number one is
- 1:17:34because they are so overworked, under equipped, under trained
- 1:17:38and have and do not have many of them.
- 1:17:41The latest technology and so many of these counties and
- 1:17:45districts around the country. They they might have one person
- 1:17:50that is this might have one person that's assigned to it and
- 1:17:53some of them and that person also most of the time is not
- 1:17:56trained in all of this. And those with the goal to do
- 1:17:59evil many times work better than those with the goal to do good.
- 1:18:02I see this all the time. I could show you a manual that's
- 1:18:05this thick of them coaching each other on how to abuse your kids,
- 1:18:09where your wife doesn't know on how to how to stop bleeding, how
- 1:18:14to be able to do all of these different things.
- 1:18:15They literally coach each other. Oh yeah.
- 1:18:18Where where do they send this manual them They coach each
- 1:18:21other online. Back and forth and this is all
- 1:18:24These aren't like all of the time they do.
- 1:18:26These aren't just children like 1.
- 1:18:28Child and somewhere far away in a dungeon.
- 1:18:31These are these are that could be that child too, but these are
- 1:18:33children across the United States some of them who have a
- 1:18:36mother in their home or maybe the mother is even exploiting
- 1:18:38them. So who are the can that map?
- 1:18:43We wouldn't. Know if they're, if that C Sam
- 1:18:46would be their child, if it's somebody else, if they're
- 1:18:49producing it or just distributing it.
- 1:18:52So that would all be be hard to tell in that.
- 1:18:55And it's always, always really important.
- 1:18:56I always try to just be very accurate with understanding the
- 1:19:00information and sharing it. But what we do know is that
- 1:19:04there are thousands and thousands and thousands of boys
- 1:19:08and girls right here in the US that are being exploited and
- 1:19:15taken advantage of and being abused in their own homes.
- 1:19:19And I believe it's in the the form of exploitation.
- 1:19:23I believe that one of the latest that's that I've heard is that
- 1:19:26about 79% of those that are being exploited is being done by
- 1:19:31someone in their trusted circle. So the number one offender is
- 1:19:36dads. And then you're going to have
- 1:19:39coaches and pastors and priests and teachers and people that
- 1:19:45work in nonprofits and uncles and sometimes moms, sometimes
- 1:19:50stepdads. But those in their trusted
- 1:19:52circle find a way to get in their trusted circle.
- 1:19:55And then they take advantage of the vulnerable.
- 1:19:58How do we stop it? And.
- 1:19:59What are you do? What is the foundations?
- 1:20:01Plan right now, I mean, not that you can solve every problem in
- 1:20:04the world, but what is the plan? One of the ways that we talk
- 1:20:07about a. Little bit is we talk about it
- 1:20:09and that it's a war of good and evil and there's a lot of
- 1:20:12different battlefronts that you got to fight on.
- 1:20:14So whether that's technology, which is really important
- 1:20:17because we have to be able to get the best technology into the
- 1:20:20hands of law enforcement that are so critical and the most
- 1:20:26critical in this fight. I believe we got to change a lot
- 1:20:29of legislation and rules in our country to be able to prevent
- 1:20:36this, put fear in the bad guys, but then also enhance the law
- 1:20:39enforcement. So one of the the bills that
- 1:20:41we're working right now is renewed hope and renewed would
- 1:20:45hope would enhance victim identification specialist from
- 1:20:49about 7:00 that are in DC at the Cyber Crime Center, which they
- 1:20:52are amazing. They are some of my favorite
- 1:20:54people. They are unreal.
- 1:20:56What they do there at the Cyber Crime Center is amazing.
- 1:20:59But I'll believe right now that there are 7 victim
- 1:21:02identification specialist. So what a victim identification
- 1:21:05specialist is so good at is. So let me back up.
- 1:21:10Several years ago there were I was sitting and we are finishing
- 1:21:15meeting at the foundation and our VP of anti human
- 1:21:18trafficking, her name is Camille and she's a rock star.
- 1:21:21And we finish and she's just kind of somber a little bit.
- 1:21:25And I said Camille, is everything OK?
- 1:21:27I said what? What breaks your heart the most
- 1:21:29right now of all this stuff we're we're fighting against?
- 1:21:32And she wrote down the number 20,000 and pretty emotional.
- 1:21:35So she just wrote it down and I said 20,000 what?
- 1:21:39And she said based on what she knew and what she heard that
- 1:21:45there are 20,000 boys and girls that law enforcement can see
- 1:21:49their written abuse series is but have yet to be able to
- 1:21:52identify them. And so that let us into a
- 1:21:58journey where we had a meeting in Leon, France for Interpols
- 1:22:02held with a lot of the the major players in this space to find
- 1:22:06out what exactly is that number. It wasn't 20,000, it was 57,000
- 1:22:12unique series. And so and and just to make sure
- 1:22:16we're. Tracking it's 57,000 children,
- 1:22:19unique children that they have documented CSAM of, but they
- 1:22:22can't identify them in order to rescue them.
- 1:22:25Yes, they're they're labeled as. Unknown identified, so have yet
- 1:22:28to be able to identify them. So some of these are very
- 1:22:31individual. We know that's individual.
- 1:22:33Children so based on a series you.
- 1:22:35Don't. There sometimes can be
- 1:22:37overlapping series, but it's probably around that 57,000 mark
- 1:22:43of it because sometimes you might have more the one kid in a
- 1:22:45series and series would be breakdown in different ways.
- 1:22:50But that led us into what started operation Renewed Hope,
- 1:22:56which was really groundbreaking and so grateful.
- 1:23:00God let us be a part of that which was based out of of DC and
- 1:23:06it's operation where you bring victim identification specialist
- 1:23:09all together. And the first operation led to
- 1:23:14316 boys and girls that were identified.
- 1:23:18And then the next one was 4-17. And then I believe 387 was the
- 1:23:22third one of continued to, to do those, which led us to not just
- 1:23:28Operation Renewed Hopes, but then it LED us into Renewed Hope
- 1:23:31Act, which is something that just passed committee a few
- 1:23:36weeks ago in the House and hopefully be taken to the floor
- 1:23:39soon and then go to the Senate. And it would take us from 7
- 1:23:43victim identification specialist at C3, which is the Cyber Crime
- 1:23:47Center. And they're amazing.
- 1:23:48I mean, they are just the tip of the iceberg.
- 1:23:51And it would take it from 7 to 270 of them would be at the
- 1:23:56Cyber Crime Center and the rest would be in the field.
- 1:23:59And so what's so important about fighting this crime type is when
- 1:24:03you start an investigation of a series of a boy or girl that
- 1:24:07have yet to be identified. You don't know in the start of
- 1:24:10that investigation where that boy or girl is.
- 1:24:14You don't know if that boy or girl is in Columbus, OH in
- 1:24:16Jacksonville, FL and Los Angeles, CA, or that boy or girl
- 1:24:22is in Chile or Rome or Egypt. You, you don't know.
- 1:24:27And so you have to be able to work together with law
- 1:24:29enforcement. That's why HSI is so important
- 1:24:32in this because they have attache offices all around the
- 1:24:34world and also working international with law
- 1:24:37enforcement coming together for it.
- 1:24:39That's why the the the EXA database with Interpol is so
- 1:24:42important that all of these countries would work together on
- 1:24:45it. So that if this case leads to
- 1:24:48out of the United States that we're not dropping that case,
- 1:24:50but we're then passing this case over to wherever that local
- 1:24:55attache offices or that jurisdiction or that law
- 1:24:58enforcement. So we'll be working them all
- 1:25:00together. And out of the boys and girls
- 1:25:01that have been identified so far, nearly half of them are in
- 1:25:05the US. And to tell you what's probably
- 1:25:11the one of the most crushing things about it is 2 years ago
- 1:25:15when we testified on this, it was around 57,000 series.
- 1:25:20And with many countries and organizations and nonprofit and
- 1:25:26law enforcement HSI leading the way, all of them working
- 1:25:29together over the course of the last two years that all of these
- 1:25:33people have been able to identify in our safeguard, about
- 1:25:3720,000 of them. So some weren't still in harm's
- 1:25:40way. So they didn't necessarily need
- 1:25:42safeguarding, but around 20,000 have been able to be identified
- 1:25:46in those serieses and many of them have been safeguarded.
- 1:25:50And now with that 20,000, the number was 57.
- 1:25:56Now it's 89,000. And that's also including the
- 1:26:0320,000 that have been identified.
- 1:26:06So it's a battle, it's a war, and we are losing.
- 1:26:12And so that's one reason why the Renewed Hope Act we are praying
- 1:26:16gets passed and we can enhance law enforcement, we can enhance
- 1:26:19their technology and their training.
- 1:26:20And it does quite a few other things than just that.
- 1:26:23But that's the the gist of it, that if we really want to fight
- 1:26:27back against this evil, then we have got to create a bigger army
- 1:26:31that is trained with the right technology to be able to fight
- 1:26:34back against it. What do you think every?
- 1:26:38The everyday person can do to fight back against this horrific
- 1:26:43evil and how can they also support the incredible work that
- 1:26:46you're doing, Tim? Well, I think just.
- 1:26:48Everybody has different gifts, abilities, talents, and I think
- 1:26:51find a way to use that into the fight and for people to value
- 1:26:55people, to protect people, to care for people.
- 1:26:57I think, you know, writing to your congressmen and women is
- 1:27:01awesome. Telling them that you want this
- 1:27:04bill to pass so we can put pressure on them.
- 1:27:07I think also finding ways to be more knowledgeable and equipped.
- 1:27:13And I think one of my greatest forms of encouragement to give
- 1:27:15to them is please don't look away because it's really easy to
- 1:27:18look away because it's very hard and it's daunting and you feel
- 1:27:21like it's too much. My encouragement is that it's
- 1:27:24not too much for King Jesus and what he's done for us.
- 1:27:27And we we're on the the winning team, but there is a battle at
- 1:27:31play right now and we have to be able to fight and push back this
- 1:27:35evil. And so whatever people are
- 1:27:36gifted and skilled and knowledgeable and to be able to
- 1:27:39use that and find a way in this fight.
- 1:27:41Maybe some people are have great trauma and form care would like
- 1:27:45to get into that so they can serve survivors and those that
- 1:27:49have been victimized and one of the worst evils in the world.
- 1:27:53Maybe some people are very fortunate to be, you know,
- 1:27:55blessed with finances and they can give to some of these
- 1:27:58causes. Maybe there's just some prayer
- 1:28:00warriors out there that will get on their knees and pray for all
- 1:28:03of these boys and girls that are living in an earthly form of
- 1:28:06hell. And so I just think whatever
- 1:28:08that gifting and ability is, let's use it in this fight
- 1:28:13because it is a fight. It is a battle.
- 1:28:15And I believe it's also more than just flesh and blood, but
- 1:28:19it is about good and evil. Yes, you have.
- 1:28:23We're preparing for Easter in a few weeks, and we're going to be
- 1:28:26remembering the crucifixion of our Lord and then his
- 1:28:28resurrection, his death and resurrection.
- 1:28:31You have a new book out. Can you just share what this is
- 1:28:33about? Yeah, and you have it.
- 1:28:35Here I can help. Yes, it's.
- 1:28:36Called if the tree, could the tree?
- 1:28:37Could speak, this was. Just really on.
- 1:28:40My heart because one morning I woke up and I went down to our
- 1:28:45TV room because sometimes I can't sleep and I just get up
- 1:28:47early. And I was down there and I was
- 1:28:49doing like some little therapy and stuff on my legs and I was
- 1:28:53listening to a sermon by my pastor, Pastor Joby Martin at
- 1:28:5711:22. And while I was also playing mad
- 1:29:00and I was doing all those at the same time.
- 1:29:02And I Joby's preaching and I, it really wasn't based on a sermon,
- 1:29:09but something he said started, I started to think about, I
- 1:29:11started to go on this rabbit trail.
- 1:29:13And then I started to think about Luke 1940 where the
- 1:29:20Pharisees are telling Jesus because this crowd and his
- 1:29:23disciples and his followers are praising him and his triumphal
- 1:29:26entry and they're telling him to, to tell him to be quiet.
- 1:29:31And he says, if they don't praise me, the rocks would cry
- 1:29:35out. And I start to think about that,
- 1:29:38and I start to weep of thinking, who of creation is that ready to
- 1:29:42cry out to praise King Jesus? And the rocks are that ready to
- 1:29:47cry out. How much more so would the tree
- 1:29:51that Jesus died on be ready to cry out?
- 1:29:55Wow. And so wrote this book with
- 1:29:58Wyatt about if the tree could speak, what would it say?
- 1:30:02Because that tree was the closest thing to Jesus that day.
- 1:30:06And start off with the, the tree as a seed and growing up and
- 1:30:11having hopes and dreams just like all of us.
- 1:30:14But that day that it was cut down and I was taken to town.
- 1:30:17And it has this dream of being made as a, a door, a table, or
- 1:30:22maybe a throne. But then it's, you know, cut,
- 1:30:25beaten and torn in two and then turned into a cross for
- 1:30:29criminals. And that despair and devastation
- 1:30:34and then ultimately the encounter with Jesus and what
- 1:30:41was created, what a cross and that day was created was an
- 1:30:47instrument of shame and torture and excruciating pain.
- 1:30:52And but what God can do, even though the the intentions and
- 1:31:01the goal were for this to be the worst thing ever.
- 1:31:05And they didn't even have the word excruciating and they
- 1:31:10didn't know how to describe the pain from the cross.
- 1:31:14So they came up with word excruciating.
- 1:31:16Excruciating literally means out of the cross.
- 1:31:18But now all over the world, if you see the cross or symbol of
- 1:31:23the cross, it's a symbol for hope.
- 1:31:26Only our God could do that and so the the hope with this book
- 1:31:32is beautiful that. That we would.
- 1:31:35Remember the cross that we would remember the closest thing to
- 1:31:38Jesus that day. And I think it's just a unique
- 1:31:41way of trying to tell the story in a different way of what was
- 1:31:46the closest thing to Jesus. And from the tree's perspective
- 1:31:50and the cross's perspective, I think it's great for families
- 1:31:53because I. Know you said that kids of all
- 1:31:55ages but it's got these beautiful illustrations and
- 1:31:58almost who did that he. Literally spent too much.
- 1:32:02Two months just. Studying the crucifixion, I
- 1:32:04think he did an amazing job of it.
- 1:32:07And I just think sometimes it's important.
- 1:32:09We just kind of, we use churchy lingo and words and so much and
- 1:32:13be sometimes become a little numb to some of it.
- 1:32:15And maybe this is a different way to, to remind us and spark
- 1:32:21that love for, for Jesus and what he was willing to do for
- 1:32:24us. And you know, one of my, my
- 1:32:28thoughts when I was just processing this was, you know,
- 1:32:34after the cross's encounter with Jesus, I could only imagine a
- 1:32:42conversation that that cross would have with Jesus.
- 1:32:45If hey, Jesus, if they just knew who you were, if they knew how
- 1:32:48much they love you, Jesus, if you would just give me a voice,
- 1:32:52I would tell them all. And I could just imagine a
- 1:32:56conversation and how Jesus respond.
- 1:32:58I, I know you would, but that's not your job.
- 1:33:01Your job is to hold me up high. It's their job.
- 1:33:05I gave them the job of telling the world you've done your job
- 1:33:09and you've done it well, and now it's their job to go tell the
- 1:33:12world what I did today. And I just know I haven't done a
- 1:33:17good enough job of telling the world.
- 1:33:19Thank you, Tim. I.
- 1:33:21Was going to say Amen to what you're saying but not you are
- 1:33:23doing a great job and people can see it from this beautiful book.
- 1:33:26Thank you so much. What an honor to have you here.
- 1:33:29This has been. Amazing how can people.
- 1:33:31Find you and on your book and all of your amazing work, and
- 1:33:34we'll link it to probably wherever books are sold.
- 1:33:37I'm not sure and if you know they want to be a part, they can
- 1:33:41go to timtiofoundation.org and see what we're doing.
- 1:33:43But it just wherever they feel called to step into whatever
- 1:33:48fight. I just believe you know.
- 1:33:50But before we know Jesus, our heart is broken by things.
- 1:33:55After Jesus, our heart is broken for things.
- 1:33:57And whatever heart is broken for, step into that because I
- 1:34:01really believe God can do more than you could think, ask, or
- 1:34:04imagine. Beautiful.
- 1:34:05Thank you so much, Tim. Thank.
