- 2:57Speaker 1: young Man? Experience announced a financial inclusion campaign called Boost
- 3:02Speaker 1: America featuring him. Please welcome to money making Conversations Financial
- 3:08Speaker 1: empowerment activists here Harper. Hey, yeah, yeah, I was eventually
- 3:15Speaker 1: gonna introduce you to talk to you money making conversations. Um,
- 3:19Speaker 1: you know, these types of conversations are so important. So
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm so proud of you in this show. So fantastic.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Well you came to the right show because uh, it
- 3:26Speaker 1: really is really unique, man, because you supported me when
- 3:29Speaker 1: I first launched it, and now so many platforms and
- 3:33Speaker 1: and my reach is really incredible now, especially with my podcasts,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and the show is starting to get syndicated different market.
- 3:40Speaker 1: In fact, we started, uh Greensboro a lot of this
- 3:43Speaker 1: Mother's Day I'll start broadcasting there and so well and
- 3:47Speaker 1: so important because we need to have these conversations for empowerment.
- 3:51Speaker 1: We need financial empowerment and and and and folks need
- 3:54Speaker 1: the information. So so what you're doing is so vital.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Thank you. So let's talk about Experience, you know, which
- 4:00Speaker 1: is explaining to what experience is and then alsow your
- 4:03Speaker 1: relationship with the Boost America campaign. Okay, so Experience is
- 4:08Speaker 1: one of the big three credit rating agencies and and
- 4:12Speaker 1: and you know, and your audience certainly knows how important
- 4:16Speaker 1: your credit scores in your life, and we can you know,
- 4:18Speaker 1: I think what we should dig deep into that and
- 4:20Speaker 1: we'll talk about that. But what the Experience Boost America
- 4:24Speaker 1: campaign is, and it's really a challenge to individuals, to
- 4:29Speaker 1: folks in town cities, families, friends, and folks across the
- 4:31Speaker 1: country to engage with their credit to take control. You know,
- 4:36Speaker 1: right now in this country, there are more than one
- 4:39Speaker 1: million people in the U s who don't have a
- 4:41Speaker 1: fair chance to access to credit today because they have
- 4:44Speaker 1: limited information in their credit files or they don't have
- 4:47Speaker 1: a credit file at all. And that's certainly not good
- 4:49Speaker 1: for them, but it's also not good for our communities
- 4:53Speaker 1: in the American economy. You know, these people they're forced
- 4:56Speaker 1: to rely on high interest credit cards and loans and
- 4:59Speaker 1: and things that that many of us take for granted.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And and the study just came out re founded that
- 5:04Speaker 1: that if you have a subprime score below, you're gonna
- 5:07Speaker 1: pay more than two hundred thousand dollars and added fees
- 5:11Speaker 1: and cause over the course of your lifetime. So the
- 5:14Speaker 1: question is, in that environment, how can we ever build wealth.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So the fact that experience is innovating in this case,
- 5:23Speaker 1: they're the first to add to their algorithm the ability
- 5:27Speaker 1: for the consumer that's me and you and everybody listening
- 5:31Speaker 1: to load in positive payment information into their credit file
- 5:35Speaker 1: and in which will ultimately over time, boost your score.
- 5:40Speaker 1: That's why it's called boost America to boost your score
- 5:43Speaker 1: because up until now that many much of this positive
- 5:47Speaker 1: payment history has not been in your file. Because we know,
- 5:51Speaker 1: folks in our community, the one thing we do pay
- 5:54Speaker 1: every month is our cell phone bill as an example, right,
- 5:56Speaker 1: because that's our lifeline to our friends and family. One
- 6:00Speaker 1: thing we do pay our utility bills. We keep that
- 6:02Speaker 1: electricity on. We we we take care of our family
- 6:05Speaker 1: when things are tight. Sometimes we'll let our credit card
- 6:08Speaker 1: balances run, but we don't let our cell phone bill
- 6:11Speaker 1: run or our electricity or water to pay those. But
- 6:14Speaker 1: we've never gotten craft for that before. I'll kill now exactly.
- 6:18Speaker 1: So this is it's a powerful tool for us, and
- 6:21Speaker 1: and that's why I'm I'm a hundred percent behind it, folks.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Experience is the only one of the big three that
- 6:26Speaker 1: offers this. You know, the other two are called Equifax
- 6:29Speaker 1: and TransUnion, and but Experience the only one is offering it.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Um you go you go onto the website Experience dot
- 6:36Speaker 1: com backslized boost America. You go in, you have to,
- 6:39Speaker 1: you know, put the information if you're paying these accounts
- 6:42Speaker 1: through that you have to pay your utility, yourself phone,
- 6:45Speaker 1: but you have to be paying them through your bank
- 6:46Speaker 1: account either checking your savings, and the names have to match, right,
- 6:50Speaker 1: you can't. You're not gonna get credit for Grandmama paying
- 6:52Speaker 1: her cell bill, you know what I'm saying. But as
- 6:56Speaker 1: long as the names match, you pay them through a
- 6:58Speaker 1: bank account, you can get credit, and it make sure
- 7:02Speaker 1: it gives you more positive payment history into your file,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and therefore, hopefully your score will will rise. It's really
- 7:09Speaker 1: important that people understand how important credit is. For some reason,
- 7:14Speaker 1: uh eighteen seventeen, I always understood credit. Not that my
- 7:18Speaker 1: parents had good credit, they didn't, but I understood the
- 7:21Speaker 1: value of good credit, the value of paying things off,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and and so I remember back in my day, you know,
- 7:27Speaker 1: a serious credit card really had back in the day,
- 7:29Speaker 1: had more value than the American Express and not seriously
- 7:31Speaker 1: is out of business, but seriously, you gotta serious credit card.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It opened up the doors to all your credit cards,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and so so like my like my credit card score
- 7:39Speaker 1: you Rahan, do you follow you do? My credit score
- 7:42Speaker 1: right now is a thirty five. Even at my level.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I understand that just because I can generate large sums
- 7:49Speaker 1: of income, I can also also need credit because you
- 7:52Speaker 1: don't want to be using your income all the time.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And so a thirty five is my score, and so
- 7:56Speaker 1: nine is the maximum you can get. And so so
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'm proud of that score. But it takes well I'm
- 8:02Speaker 1: about to break, you know, eight fifties to max. So
- 8:05Speaker 1: you're right there, right there, and so and watch this
- 8:14Speaker 1: experience boost even worse for you that has high credit.
- 8:17Speaker 1: That's why I'm telling everybody to do it. Your score
- 8:21Speaker 1: may only go up one or two numbers, but that's
- 8:24Speaker 1: better than zero. See every single time it moves, I
- 8:27Speaker 1: feel good. If I see my score go up one point,
- 8:29Speaker 1: I feel good. And and and this is the thing
- 8:32Speaker 1: people have to think about with credit. This is a
- 8:34Speaker 1: really important thing. Credit is a tool. If this is
- 8:38Speaker 1: a tool, just like money is a tool. You know,
- 8:40Speaker 1: people get real emotional about it. They get stressed out
- 8:42Speaker 1: about Think about credit like a hammer. You don't get
- 8:45Speaker 1: emotional about a hammer. Hammers can can build things, but
- 8:48Speaker 1: they also can tear things. Down and credit the exact
- 8:51Speaker 1: same way you use it properly can help you build
- 8:53Speaker 1: your life, help you achieve your goals and drains. If
- 8:55Speaker 1: you use it improperly, it actually hurts you because you're
- 8:58Speaker 1: in a lot of debt and you and and you're
- 9:00Speaker 1: servicing that debt, and you're and you're paying more and
- 9:03Speaker 1: it's hard to get out from under it. Let's let's
- 9:06Speaker 1: put out some good things here, uh where you can
- 9:08Speaker 1: go for discussions about ww dot experience dot com, force
- 9:12Speaker 1: lass boost America, and follow hashtag boost America. So with
- 9:17Speaker 1: that being said, is that of responsibility when you when
- 9:20Speaker 1: you take them on these type of titles or you
- 9:22Speaker 1: try to, uh, you know, empower people to live a
- 9:25Speaker 1: better life. Hell yes, you know. When I think about
- 9:31Speaker 1: our our our communities and I think about the idea
- 9:33Speaker 1: of cross generational wealth transfer, you start to realize that
- 9:38Speaker 1: the only way that can start to happen is if
- 9:41Speaker 1: we really take care of the fundamentals. It's almost like athletics, right,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you gotta learn the fundamentals before you start to win
- 9:49Speaker 1: the trick shots and so in in in the same
- 9:53Speaker 1: holds true for wealth building and financial literacy. So credit
- 9:57Speaker 1: is one of the foundational elements of learning it and
- 10:01Speaker 1: and and being able to So so we've got to
- 10:03Speaker 1: start at the basics before something. You know, someone can
- 10:05Speaker 1: come up to me, man, I want to own apartment
- 10:07Speaker 1: buildings across the country, and I'm like, well, let's talk
- 10:09Speaker 1: about credit first. You know, let's let's go to the
- 10:11Speaker 1: basics first, and then we'll talk about it how you
- 10:13Speaker 1: can start acquiring apartment buildings across the country, you know. So,
- 10:17Speaker 1: so it's we always have to go back to the
- 10:19Speaker 1: basics in the beginning. And that's why this partnership with
- 10:21Speaker 1: Experience is so important because I'm I'm celebrating a company
- 10:25Speaker 1: that's innovating, and that's important because unless we have you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: these companies innovate to try to create products that people
- 10:34Speaker 1: can use to empower themselves. Then then I want to
- 10:38Speaker 1: encourage other companies to follow suits. So so you know, um,
- 10:41Speaker 1: that's why I'm proud to be the brand ambassador for
- 10:44Speaker 1: product and I want people to use it and adopt
- 10:47Speaker 1: it because it will send a message and saying, hey,
- 10:50Speaker 1: the more we do these types of innovation things, um,
- 10:53Speaker 1: the more the more people use them and adopt them,
- 10:56Speaker 1: We're gonna come out with even more products that can
- 10:59Speaker 1: that people can use to empower themselves. Well, like I
- 11:01Speaker 1: told earlier the interview, I said, uh, all my life,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I've always felt the credit was important to me. I
- 11:08Speaker 1: know that's a certain responsibility. It comes with trying to
- 11:11Speaker 1: maintain and build good credit and to see you as
- 11:14Speaker 1: a brand ambassador under this campaign called boost America tied
- 11:19Speaker 1: to one of the top credit firms experience. Let's me
- 11:22Speaker 1: know that this direction isn't good hands really really good hands. Well,
- 11:27Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, and I appreciate you having this
- 11:29Speaker 1: show in these conversations because all of this is important.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Too many of us. We stressed out about money. We
- 11:37Speaker 1: we in credit, and we put our head in the
- 11:40Speaker 1: sand and be like, you know, someone told me today,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't even want to know my score, and I'm
- 11:44Speaker 1: saying that's that's m let's you know, let's really dig
- 11:49Speaker 1: in and and know your score and then start fixing it.
- 11:52Speaker 1: We have to do that for each other. We have
- 11:54Speaker 1: to support each other in it. And you know, Dr
- 11:57Speaker 1: Kingson raw tied together in a single garment of much
- 12:00Speaker 1: of destiny. So I totually believe my destiny is linked
- 12:03Speaker 1: with yours. It's just like you were saying at the beginning,
- 12:05Speaker 1: your show has expanded its reach. So to the extent
- 12:08Speaker 1: your show expands, we can work together to expand and
- 12:11Speaker 1: help each other spread a message and and hopefully empower folks.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And that's the way it works with none of our
- 12:17Speaker 1: none of us are in this alone. And too many
- 12:20Speaker 1: times we have folks that are making the money not
- 12:23Speaker 1: sharing the secrets about how they can empower other people
- 12:25Speaker 1: because they're like, I want it all for myself. That's
- 12:28Speaker 1: totally not the type of person I am. I want
- 12:30Speaker 1: as much information. I want other people to win as
- 12:33Speaker 1: much because I know I'm tied to them just as
- 12:35Speaker 1: much they're tied to me. Awesome, Uh, this is hell, Harper, Hell,
- 12:38Speaker 1: thank you again for calling the show. Of course, you
- 12:40Speaker 1: know I gotta promote you. Thanks for calling the show. Hell.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I was looking for a better way to check in
- 12:48Speaker 1: on our house while I was at work, and a
- 12:50Speaker 1: friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical, but decided to give
- 12:53Speaker 1: it a shot, and I bought a Blink camera system.
- 12:55Speaker 1: With our last security system, false alarms, wires everywhere, and
- 12:59Speaker 1: monthly fees couldn't get out of my bad. But our
- 13:01Speaker 1: Blink system is different. Their motion activated cameras that work
- 13:04Speaker 1: inside and outside their wire free, easy to set up,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and they run on two lithium batteries that last up
- 13:10Speaker 1: to two years. Total peace of mind and Blink camera
- 13:12Speaker 1: system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions. We were
- 13:16Speaker 1: on vacation and I gotten to learn of my smartphone
- 13:18Speaker 1: that motion was detected at our front door. I checked
- 13:21Speaker 1: my Blink app and I saw it was just my
- 13:22Speaker 1: cool new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed no new
- 13:25Speaker 1: devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding. With Blink camera
- 13:29Speaker 1: systems starting under eighty bucks, home security just got easier.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Go to Blink Protected dot com, slash Secure, blink protect

- 14:17Speaker 1: our taxes. It was depressing. I mean, we earned good money,
- 14:21Speaker 1: but we're always behind in bills. So we met with
- 14:23Speaker 1: this financial advisor who found two huge problems unplanned expenses
- 14:27Speaker 1: like home repairs and medical bills and credit cards with
- 14:30Speaker 1: crazy high interest rates. Anyway, he grafted out a brilliant strategy.
- 14:34Speaker 1: If we could get a favorable fixed rate personal loan,
- 14:37Speaker 1: we could pay off all our bills and credit cards
- 14:40Speaker 1: and still have cash at the end of the month
- 14:41Speaker 1: for emergencies and a summer vacation. He suggested best egg
- 14:45Speaker 1: dot com for their rates because consumers rated best Egg
- 14:48Speaker 1: four point eight out of five stars on consumer affairs.
- 14:52Speaker 1: The online loan app took about a minute and it
- 14:54Speaker 1: didn't affect our credit score. We got our personal loan,
- 14:56Speaker 1: paid off credit card bills, and lowered our monthly pay
- 15:00Speaker 1: and so we bank the money we saved. When it's
- 15:02Speaker 1: time to pay off debt and get ahead, visit best

- 15:21Speaker 1: rubbing my hands the other You see that when you
- 15:23Speaker 1: think money about to come. You know what old people
- 15:25Speaker 1: tell it over your hands together. If you mil of
- 15:28Speaker 1: your hand, itchy, you got money coming your way. Baby.
- 15:31Speaker 1: That's my mom, always to do it. My next guest
- 15:34Speaker 1: is uh, he's uh, he's all. I would call him
- 15:36Speaker 1: money because he's been working for twenty years and he's
- 15:39Speaker 1: been doing shows I watched now you know, I'll tell
- 15:41Speaker 1: you I'm surprised he didn't pop up on Game with Towels.
- 15:46Speaker 1: My next guest is an actor and musician who career
- 15:48Speaker 1: spans over twenty years, encompassing television, film, and voiceover work
- 15:53Speaker 1: on video games. You've seen him on some of my
- 15:55Speaker 1: favorite shows, The Wire, Lost, Fringe, and OZ. When OZ
- 16:01Speaker 1: came out of the blue, ards changed the whole game.
- 16:04Speaker 1: But the OZ people and the Wire people the same people.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Let y'all know that. So that's how that's how fascinating
- 16:09Speaker 1: I am about the hold behind the scene, the production
- 16:11Speaker 1: and the writers. Now he's on the show The Day
- 16:13Speaker 1: to talk about his incredible diverse career and promoting the
- 16:16Speaker 1: third installment of the John Wicks movie series. John Wick
- 16:21Speaker 1: as Cano res, you watch those movies, you get tired,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you get tired. They just be whooping it up. And
- 16:28Speaker 1: so I've never seen him fight though ever, We're gonna
- 16:30Speaker 1: ask somebody, he'd be sitting behind that death smooth talking.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I've yet to see him. Hi, nobody, nobody, nobody. He's
- 16:38Speaker 1: appeared in all three John Wicks movie Please work with
- 16:41Speaker 1: the money making conversation, Lance Reddick, Hey, it's gonna be thanks.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Uh so when you're gonna but Lance, come on, now,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know when well, honestly, I don't know that I'm
- 16:56Speaker 1: at liberty to say, oh yeah, that's as far Sparler.
- 17:01Speaker 1: That's that's. That's all I can say about that, because
- 17:04Speaker 1: because the next movie, man, because I've been you know,
- 17:06Speaker 1: my John works from Jump, you know, and I thought
- 17:09Speaker 1: the I thought the action was the common he's my boy,
- 17:12Speaker 1: and he I was like looking at commas, man, he
- 17:15Speaker 1: was in shape. Do you do you attend any of
- 17:18Speaker 1: the training sessions and watching these guys work out, because
- 17:21Speaker 1: they gotta prepare at least several months of weeks before
- 17:25Speaker 1: they even started engaging in these into the taping a
- 17:28Speaker 1: shooting of the film. Correct, all the major all the
- 17:32Speaker 1: major villains, all the you know, all the all the
- 17:35Speaker 1: people who have the big, big fight teams with the
- 17:37Speaker 1: with Kenado. Yeah, they had the trip for months. I know,
- 17:40Speaker 1: uh Um, I haven't example online, I haven't you know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: I haven't been to any of the training sessions, um personally,
- 17:48Speaker 1: but I know Holly, like from Jample for John with three,
- 17:51Speaker 1: Holly Barry had to train for months. To um, I
- 17:54Speaker 1: feel like Ken's okay to take because she said it,
- 17:56Speaker 1: she said in interviews absolutely Brook three ribs at one point. Yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: because you know, I watched it behind the scenes, you know,
- 18:02Speaker 1: behind they're doing HBO. Yeah, so I watched it because
- 18:05Speaker 1: she's she's rolling with some dogs. Alex. I mean, I
- 18:11Speaker 1: was shocked. You said, brother, you're just John Wick, John Wick,
- 18:15Speaker 1: the third installment of John Wick. You know, we can't
- 18:18Speaker 1: be soft in this interview with John Wick because the
- 18:21Speaker 1: fact that if you're a fan of the series, which
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm a fan of the series, and we're gonna talk
- 18:25Speaker 1: about this, but I was sorry, I want to talk
- 18:27Speaker 1: about you two, your career is amazing. But but because
- 18:31Speaker 1: you know when it's when I first are the wire,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you know, you've worked with some amazing talents as you're
- 18:37Speaker 1: working into and you've been working with in this series
- 18:40Speaker 1: because I was had Franky Face one on the show
- 18:43Speaker 1: about three weeks ago. He's great. Yeah, you know, And
- 18:47Speaker 1: and again that's the type of talent that you work around.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Of course, you know interest Elbow off of the Wire,
- 18:53Speaker 1: you work on series man that people a lot of
- 18:56Speaker 1: people continue to work and I mean you see him
- 18:59Speaker 1: in mood movies. You see like my Girl, she's in
- 19:02Speaker 1: uh Man in the Wasp, you know all these so
- 19:05Speaker 1: you your your your that that lets me know that
- 19:07Speaker 1: your abilities as an actor is always challenged and you
- 19:11Speaker 1: always rise to the cage to the occasion. Correct. Well,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I've been very fortunate and and for me, the quality
- 19:19Speaker 1: of the work has always come first. So I mean
- 19:21Speaker 1: I was really when I was in drama school, I
- 19:23Speaker 1: was really pretty from from a time because I came
- 19:26Speaker 1: acting late in life. I mean I acted in college
- 19:28Speaker 1: for fun, but I didn't really start pursuing acting as
- 19:31Speaker 1: a as a as a vocation until it was twenty
- 19:33Speaker 1: seven years old. So um, it was something that kind
- 19:36Speaker 1: of stumbled into because originally I trained as a musician.
- 19:39Speaker 1: So when I when I started acting, that really kind
- 19:42Speaker 1: of um attacked learning the craft with the kind of
- 19:47Speaker 1: ferocity um so um that has served me well since.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And I feel like I really got um, I got
- 19:55Speaker 1: my money's worth out of drama school. That really it was.
- 19:58Speaker 1: It was a good investment. Well, you're this is interesting.
- 20:00Speaker 1: So you know you got this this great voice. So
- 20:03Speaker 1: I'm sure your friends and your buddies you know, I'm
- 20:05Speaker 1: sure the originally that voice because you say using music,
- 20:08Speaker 1: using musician, so I know you were smooth talking Lance.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I know that. Well, I have a nice singing voice,
- 20:17Speaker 1: but I mean I was never I mean I sing
- 20:21Speaker 1: and I have a nice voice, but my major was composition.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I grew up um writing songs and then studying classical
- 20:28Speaker 1: piano on classical classical complition. So I never I never
- 20:32Speaker 1: really considered myself a singer as much as a songwriting
- 20:35Speaker 1: with a nice voice. And so so now now when
- 20:38Speaker 1: you made that transition, Now did you feel that because
- 20:42Speaker 1: I know your music, Like I said, music it never
- 20:44Speaker 1: leaves your soul, your spirit. But you're you're You're predominantly
- 20:47Speaker 1: known as an actor, are you your shaping music into
- 20:51Speaker 1: your career. Well, it's funny because I, uh, well, first
- 20:55Speaker 1: of all, my training I found my training as a musician,
- 20:59Speaker 1: sir um really informed how I approached my work as
- 21:04Speaker 1: an actor when I started, when I started to train
- 21:06Speaker 1: the uh to learn how to act so um, even
- 21:11Speaker 1: even learning how to practice right the piano, you know
- 21:14Speaker 1: what I mean, It informed how I approached There's a
- 21:18Speaker 1: there was a kind of an analytical and systematical way
- 21:20Speaker 1: that I approached learning the lines um and a lot
- 21:23Speaker 1: of that came out of my training as a musician.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And a lot of people understand that you have to
- 21:27Speaker 1: lout challenge the truth because I just look background on me.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I played tennis, saxophone, alto saxophone, and clarinet, and I
- 21:37Speaker 1: know that from a memory standpoint. And when you use
- 21:40Speaker 1: the word analytical, now, my degree in colleges and mathematics,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and it was all derived from the fact that when
- 21:46Speaker 1: you play music and you start getting to these levels
- 21:48Speaker 1: and these tones, and because you're here note you say
- 21:51Speaker 1: you know that that that note is and so, and
- 21:53Speaker 1: when you look at the history of music, when you
- 21:55Speaker 1: go back to Mozark and Beethoven, and all this you go,
- 21:59Speaker 1: it's all really a form a math and so and
- 22:01Speaker 1: it's back was obsessed with numbers. Wow, that's wow, that's
- 22:06Speaker 1: really cool. A lot of times you supposed to be
- 22:11Speaker 1: interview means though it's like, okay, this is I ain't
- 22:14Speaker 1: never I've never talked to nobody like this before. Because
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know that that because I really I try to
- 22:19Speaker 1: get interviews on the show that that there. I try
- 22:22Speaker 1: to pull out those gems because I get a lot
- 22:24Speaker 1: of people who interview my show up. Nobody's ever asked
- 22:26Speaker 1: me that question because actually just just just I've had
- 22:30Speaker 1: a great life and I still a living a great
- 22:33Speaker 1: life lands and when I'm able to talk to you,
- 22:35Speaker 1: when you start talking about music, I'm right in line
- 22:37Speaker 1: with you because I always always recommend young people to
- 22:41Speaker 1: uh uh, not just listen to music, but participate in
- 22:44Speaker 1: the music. Learn how to play an instrument, piano. It's
- 22:47Speaker 1: something that will allow you to get into the thought
- 22:51Speaker 1: process because once you get into music and you can
- 22:54Speaker 1: attest to this, it just takes you on a journey.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Am I correct? Oh? Absolutely. And it's interesting because even
- 23:01Speaker 1: beyond just speaking about music specifically, um, I think to
- 23:05Speaker 1: the point of kind of approaching uh trying to approach
- 23:09Speaker 1: life uh successfully. I put that in quotes. Um. One
- 23:15Speaker 1: of the things that I've found, uh is that, um,
- 23:19Speaker 1: you never know where following your interests uh and your
- 23:24Speaker 1: passing for learning will take you. So um who I
- 23:29Speaker 1: mean even though I started, you know, as a musician,
- 23:31Speaker 1: because the other thing is interestingly enough, you know, I was,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I loved math, and I was actually physics making my
- 23:37Speaker 1: first year in college before I transferred to music school.
- 23:39Speaker 1: So so um, you just never know how, um, just
- 23:46Speaker 1: following you know how, even even if you don't end
- 23:49Speaker 1: up following what a particular path you don't you end
- 23:53Speaker 1: up going on a different path. What learning something from
- 23:56Speaker 1: from from different disparate paths will uh, how they will
- 24:00Speaker 1: serve you later. And that's important for people to hear
- 24:04Speaker 1: that about your talents because like you said, you know,
- 24:07Speaker 1: people get in life they are afraid to make a change,
- 24:09Speaker 1: lands afraid that Okay, this is I've been told, this
- 24:12Speaker 1: is this is where I should take by my journey.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And you're you know, like you said, physics man, musician. Uh.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Then the twenty seven you got into acting, none of
- 24:21Speaker 1: that was guaranteed? What what what? What was what were
- 24:25Speaker 1: your support groups? Well, I have to tell you that
- 24:28Speaker 1: I don't normally tend to talk like this, but in
- 24:32Speaker 1: terms of kind of how and I hope this. I'm
- 24:37Speaker 1: afraid this doesn't necesarily answer your question. But when I
- 24:40Speaker 1: started acting, that was how I got from there to here. Um.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I mean two years after I started acting, I was
- 24:48Speaker 1: in at the year drama school and the only place applied.
- 24:51Speaker 1: It was one of those things where I that was
- 24:53Speaker 1: the moment in my life where I felt that I
- 24:54Speaker 1: was really divinely, like something was guiding me. I appreciate
- 24:57Speaker 1: you coming on my show. I appreciate here man. I'm
- 25:00Speaker 1: a fan. Any time you want to promote anything, whether uh,
- 25:03Speaker 1: whether for your charity or for your career, I always
- 25:06Speaker 1: know money make conversation. It's your home and I support you.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I saw I saw a number of movies down here.
- 25:12Speaker 1: So tell your team whenever you want to get some support,
- 25:15Speaker 1: come back to money making conversations. Okay, there are two
- 25:18Speaker 1: other things that like the plug real quick? What is
- 25:21Speaker 1: uh the fifth season? The Boss has just dropped? Uh,
- 25:24Speaker 1: it's a great show. Um, it's it's um like I said,
- 25:28Speaker 1: it's the fifth seasons on Amazon. I think it's the
- 25:31Speaker 1: each season gets better better than it's the best season
- 25:33Speaker 1: yet season. They probably wanted The Little Woods, which is
- 25:36Speaker 1: uh uh this beautiful drama star Tuten Thompson. Um that
- 25:42Speaker 1: that just open nationwide this uh this past week. Everybody
- 25:47Speaker 1: should go see that. I mean she's I mean she's
- 25:50Speaker 1: doing the best work of her career. I mean, the
- 25:51Speaker 1: best book of her career. I mean she's thirty years old,
- 25:53Speaker 1: but I mean it's it's beautiful and it's it's it's
- 25:57Speaker 1: it's an incredible drama. Yeah, my man, I appreciate you again.
- 26:02Speaker 1: You have my support and my blesses, and I'm a
- 26:04Speaker 1: promote you on everything land. I will have to go
- 26:07Speaker 1: there and see what you do when you climb from
- 26:09Speaker 1: behind the desk from McDonald and money making conversations don't
- 26:15Speaker 1: touch that. I was looking for a better way to

- 29:33Speaker 1: of exploring the world of sports beyond the court. Um.
- 29:38Speaker 1: He's a constant personality on ESPN ESPN two weeknight basketball
- 29:42Speaker 1: studio coverage. He calls let games throughout the year. I
- 29:46Speaker 1: managed to catch a labo. He is a former standout
- 29:48Speaker 1: point guard and is roundly considered one of the most
- 29:51Speaker 1: prolific college basketball players in history. Please work on the
- 29:54Speaker 1: Money Making Conversation, Jay Williams, Sean, thanks for having me, man,
- 29:59Speaker 1: I appreciate being here. Well, J said before they you know,
- 30:02Speaker 1: like I said, uh, you know meeting you at a
- 30:04Speaker 1: young age. I was way back. I was early stage
- 30:08Speaker 1: with Steve Harving. I started our partnership. We're doing a
- 30:11Speaker 1: radio show in Los Angeles, California, naty two point three
- 30:14Speaker 1: to be and this a very gifted young man with
- 30:17Speaker 1: a lot of energy and a lot of confidence. He
- 30:20Speaker 1: was out there schedule to perform and the Magic John's
- 30:23Speaker 1: do this charity classic called the Magic Classic, and he
- 30:26Speaker 1: would invite the pros and un invite these hot shot
- 30:30Speaker 1: young athletes who about the end of the pros and
- 30:32Speaker 1: Mr Williams one of those hot shots, and uh, my man,
- 30:36Speaker 1: just watching the comeback you have from the physical drama
- 30:40Speaker 1: that came into your life and being able to see
- 30:42Speaker 1: you make an attempt to play basketball again at that
- 30:45Speaker 1: high professional level that you performed that when you was
- 30:48Speaker 1: in college to be the number two pick in the draft.
- 30:52Speaker 1: That's that's that's a series of events that that allows
- 30:54Speaker 1: me to say that you do not allow uh setbacks
- 30:59Speaker 1: the whole you back. Well, there's no such thing as
- 31:03Speaker 1: a setback. In my opain. I think if you're lucky
- 31:05Speaker 1: enough to be here, everything that occurs is a growth opportunity.
- 31:09Speaker 1: And uh, I think it's taken me a couple of
- 31:11Speaker 1: years to get to that point where that was my mindset.
- 31:14Speaker 1: But now I look at everything with reason. So if
- 31:17Speaker 1: something that maybe weren't to go my way in life occurs,
- 31:21Speaker 1: I try to extract the lessons learn from that and
- 31:23Speaker 1: try to make that applicable to the next opportunity I have.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So it's uh, it's been one of the most fortunate
- 31:29Speaker 1: things that ever happened to me in my life. Because
- 31:31Speaker 1: I think a lot of people talk about diversity are
- 31:33Speaker 1: they talk about how they would deal with but it's
- 31:35Speaker 1: not until you really go through it, until you have
- 31:37Speaker 1: to face it to truly recognize who am I? Who
- 31:40Speaker 1: am I without what I do? What do I stand for?
- 31:44Speaker 1: And I think you know, unfortunately for a lot of people,
- 31:47Speaker 1: you spend so much time climbing the mountain in the
- 31:50Speaker 1: matrix of life because life will throw eight million things
- 31:53Speaker 1: at you, especially now with social media and you know
- 31:56Speaker 1: what's going on with your job and then trying to
- 31:57Speaker 1: have a family and then trying to maintain friendships, uh
- 32:00Speaker 1: or maintain you know, something with a loved one. You
- 32:02Speaker 1: don't spend any time self reflecting on you as a
- 32:05Speaker 1: person and what you've gone through and how you have
- 32:09Speaker 1: decided to extract, you know, lessons from those situations, and
- 32:13Speaker 1: how you have learned. Are you making those lessons applicable
- 32:16Speaker 1: to where you want to go? Have you even thought
- 32:18Speaker 1: about putting together a blueprint on where you want to go?
- 32:21Speaker 1: And Uh, I bump into a lot of people that
- 32:23Speaker 1: are just constantly stagnant. They're just stuck in the same repellor,
- 32:26Speaker 1: the cycle going around the same and houn't falling into
- 32:28Speaker 1: the same trap over and over again, whether the trap
- 32:31Speaker 1: has not caught you or not held you down. And
- 32:35Speaker 1: so that what I look at you on TV now
- 32:37Speaker 1: and I also see that that I don't think you
- 32:41Speaker 1: really want to be just a sports guy. If that's
- 32:43Speaker 1: the sense I get of you, I've seen you in
- 32:45Speaker 1: other platforms. What is what is the plan? What does
- 32:47Speaker 1: the game plan for? Jay Weems? Well, I don't know
- 32:50Speaker 1: if I have a a game plan. I quickly seen
- 32:53Speaker 1: how how plans can be shifted. Uh, when I met you,
- 32:58Speaker 1: you you are well really the last time I had
- 33:01Speaker 1: to plan was when I you know, I was like,
- 33:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna be in leagues or ten fifteen years. Look
- 33:05Speaker 1: at that plan worked out. So I think there is
- 33:08Speaker 1: a sense of direction there are some kind of internal
- 33:11Speaker 1: compass that can lead you in the direction. But ultimately
- 33:14Speaker 1: I don't have this, you know, specialized blueprint on how
- 33:17Speaker 1: to answer all the questions. I think it's a it's
- 33:19Speaker 1: a matter of moving and shaking as long as you're
- 33:22Speaker 1: headed in somewhat of your direction, your north star. But
- 33:25Speaker 1: I think for me right now, my mist is how
- 33:28Speaker 1: do I have autonomy in my business? So I want
- 33:32Speaker 1: to build legacy? That is important? Can I get that
- 33:36Speaker 1: legacy by being on TV and being a sports guy
- 33:39Speaker 1: and build out a pretty you know, fascinating and great career.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I think I've gotten to a pretty amazing point because
- 33:45Speaker 1: I potentially have my own show one day. Yeah. But
- 33:47Speaker 1: you know, for me, I love business too, so I
- 33:49Speaker 1: love Hey, I have a holding company. How many subsidiaries
- 33:52Speaker 1: do I have under my holding company? How many businesses
- 33:55Speaker 1: can I own equity within that? I'm passionate about that
- 33:58Speaker 1: I can lend a hand to and maybe that run
- 34:01Speaker 1: on a day to day basis. Um understanding your strength
- 34:04Speaker 1: senior weaknesses. How do I thround myself with the right
- 34:07Speaker 1: kind of teammates? You know, now doing stuff at the
- 34:09Speaker 1: Boe Room and Kevin Durant, a rich climate, you know,
- 34:12Speaker 1: really digging deeper into businesses, understanding how other people have
- 34:16Speaker 1: approached their businesses and how they've scaled those entities themselves.
- 34:20Speaker 1: So for me, it's like, hey, I when I first
- 34:23Speaker 1: got hurt, I invested into an inventsity company, code leverage agency,
- 34:26Speaker 1: where we procured sponsorships from major event around the country.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Then I started becoming a really good friends of different
- 34:32Speaker 1: cmos and different sea level executives and started doing more
- 34:35Speaker 1: branding and marketing and realize that you can move away
- 34:37Speaker 1: from the traditional agencies to now brands doing it in
- 34:41Speaker 1: their own barantasses. So consulting with the under arms, with
- 34:44Speaker 1: the twenties for our fitnesses, putting in the time to understand,
- 34:48Speaker 1: you know, actually, what is the workday, how much my
- 34:52Speaker 1: intellect do I need to put into a certain product,
- 34:54Speaker 1: How can we market that product? How do we go
- 34:56Speaker 1: to a different demo with that product? And I think
- 34:59Speaker 1: all that is leverage itself to the point to where
- 35:01Speaker 1: I'm not now where it's like they're doing that with
- 35:03Speaker 1: their ballroom. I'm getting involved in different investments. I have
- 35:06Speaker 1: my own company calls Time, you know, Dventures, where I
- 35:10Speaker 1: do a series of different investments and I work with
- 35:12Speaker 1: other companies from a branding perspective, and I'm slowly scaling
- 35:16Speaker 1: that business within itself. So you're the perfect Give you
- 35:19Speaker 1: a lot there you do grad Now you you that
- 35:26Speaker 1: the Greek played off somehow, Okay, you would constantly just
- 35:30Speaker 1: driveling on that court. Now some some play that big
- 35:33Speaker 1: out there. Now, let me ask you this about that
- 35:35Speaker 1: the whole process of of being a talent and a
- 35:39Speaker 1: sports talent and then with social media and everybody wants
- 35:42Speaker 1: that that that that sound bite. Now you you you
- 35:45Speaker 1: put out a sound bite very early in the college
- 35:48Speaker 1: basketball season about the Duke basketball team. You see that
- 35:53Speaker 1: that Duke basketball team could beat the Cleveland Cavaliers. You
- 35:58Speaker 1: remember that, I do. Well, let me tell you about
- 36:01Speaker 1: the interesting thing about sound bites, and this is the
- 36:03Speaker 1: way media works. So a sound bite is when somebody
- 36:07Speaker 1: clips off a portion of what I said that is
- 36:09Speaker 1: not what I said, So that that you know, in
- 36:12Speaker 1: people really to kind of because we live in the
- 36:15Speaker 1: world now we're song where people just read headlines would
- 36:18Speaker 1: no longer read. So for me, what I had said
- 36:23Speaker 1: is at that time, you know, Kevin Love was out.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Um they had about four or five of their players
- 36:29Speaker 1: who all played significant minutes were out. They were due
- 36:31Speaker 1: to injuries. So I was talking about a lot of
- 36:34Speaker 1: their bench players and I said, currently, with the makeup
- 36:36Speaker 1: of this roster team to meet this Cleveland Cavalier's team.
- 36:40Speaker 1: People then took that sound bite and they transfixed that
- 36:44Speaker 1: into oh, Jay said, Duke can be the Cleveland Cavaliers,
- 36:47Speaker 1: and like, that's not what I said. But once again,
- 36:50Speaker 1: you know, understanding this the reality of biproducts of the
- 36:53Speaker 1: field I work in. Man, It's like people will choose
- 36:56Speaker 1: to listen to what they want to hear, right, So
- 36:59Speaker 1: you can try to after something by saying that the
- 37:01Speaker 1: right way or by giving more context is something, but inevitably,
- 37:06Speaker 1: sound bites are things that travel across the social media
- 37:09Speaker 1: medium and that's how people listen to. So that's just
- 37:12Speaker 1: how the industry works these days, apparently, And I guess,
- 37:15Speaker 1: and I guess that's important that you understand that, accept
- 37:17Speaker 1: the fact that you have to almost make sure you
- 37:20Speaker 1: your complete sentence is complete and so they can't clip
- 37:23Speaker 1: you like that. It's not actually take the reverse opposite approach,
- 37:27Speaker 1: I said, And I say it with conviction because I
- 37:30Speaker 1: didn't think regardless of where the media decides to spin it.
- 37:34Speaker 1: That opens up a door for me to go on
- 37:35Speaker 1: other platforms and continue to explain the narrative that I
- 37:38Speaker 1: explained the first time. And I but I think that's
- 37:41Speaker 1: a great lesson for a lot of younger people to
- 37:44Speaker 1: listen to, because right now you can see the way
- 37:47Speaker 1: a lot of media companies are trying to get as
- 37:49Speaker 1: far as it relates to clickbait, you know, like I
- 37:51Speaker 1: want you to click that menute, I get you a
- 37:53Speaker 1: percent of revenue every time you click on my headline.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So when you see a crazy headline, I understand, like
- 37:59Speaker 1: or is there a current text to that, because I
- 38:00Speaker 1: have to ask that sometimes we could on it's not
- 38:03Speaker 1: even a story that we thought we were going to
- 38:04Speaker 1: be reading about, right right right, I think there's all
- 38:07Speaker 1: these mosses of business. Sometimes the normal person, like I said,
- 38:11Speaker 1: we're so wrapped up into calming and dis mountain within
- 38:15Speaker 1: the matrix of life, like you don't have time to
- 38:17Speaker 1: mistand context. So it's just some of the people don't understand.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Imagine is about the show The Boarder. What you can
- 38:22Speaker 1: find on ESPN Plus is exclusively found on ESPN. It's
- 38:27Speaker 1: it's a subscription you have to pay to get The
- 38:28Speaker 1: show's hosted by Jay Williams, who I'm talking to right now.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Hey Jay, what did you find when an interviewing these
- 38:34Speaker 1: two dynamically different personalities, Kevin as as well as Lebron
- 38:39Speaker 1: a little bit more advanced in his entrepreneur uh. I
- 38:44Speaker 1: guess could say scale, But Kevin is coming up fast?
- 38:47Speaker 1: What did you what? What did you? What did you
- 38:49Speaker 1: gain from this show? Personally? Can I tell you something?
- 38:51Speaker 1: You're the first person to ever ask that question, and
- 38:53Speaker 1: that is a really great question. I think I saw
- 38:59Speaker 1: two people were extremely powerful. I think one person at
- 39:04Speaker 1: lb J has been afforded more experiences because of how
- 39:10Speaker 1: he came into the game, Whereas I think that Kevin
- 39:13Speaker 1: has been a great basketball player. There's been a lot
- 39:15Speaker 1: of focus just on basketball, Whereas recently, over the last
- 39:18Speaker 1: couple of years, I think Kevin has really started to
- 39:20Speaker 1: branch out because there's also comes with the maturity and
- 39:23Speaker 1: acceptance of who you are. I think Katie's gone through
- 39:26Speaker 1: that process where he's now at a different place, but
- 39:29Speaker 1: it was it was all from a place of love. Now,
- 39:31Speaker 1: I'm not saying that when they speed across the line,
- 39:33Speaker 1: they don't compete to be the best because they both
- 39:34Speaker 1: want to be the best. But this came from something
- 39:37Speaker 1: that reminds me of what jay Z says. So jay
- 39:40Speaker 1: Z actually came to New York and he did a
- 39:42Speaker 1: concert last weekend, and uh, I'm gonna send you to
- 39:45Speaker 1: Clipper some because it's great. It talks about he's talking about,
- 39:49Speaker 1: you know, as being a African American male or person
- 39:53Speaker 1: that you know the government talks about gentrifying, and we're
- 39:56Speaker 1: gonna tentify our own hood. And you know how sometimes
- 39:59Speaker 1: people have treated a like we're crowds at the end
- 40:01Speaker 1: of at the bottom of the barrel, and the cow.
- 40:03Speaker 1: First of our place is not at the bottom of
- 40:04Speaker 1: the barrel. And secondly, we can climb on top of
- 40:07Speaker 1: each other to pull each other out. And I felt
- 40:10Speaker 1: that with this conversation, I felt it it was more
- 40:13Speaker 1: like a sharing of how we both did it and
- 40:17Speaker 1: both people studying each other to build something different. And
- 40:22Speaker 1: if that's what you're able to pull out of the conversation,
- 40:25Speaker 1: then I did my job, because that's what it's about.
- 40:27Speaker 1: It's about teaching our youth and teaching others how they
- 40:30Speaker 1: can pull themselves out of that situation. My man, I
- 40:34Speaker 1: want to thank you man. I want to thank you
- 40:36Speaker 1: brother h You're the same gifted young man admit in
- 40:39Speaker 1: the back room or name two point three way back
- 40:41Speaker 1: in the l A and I'm a fan today again.

- 40:47Speaker 1: exclusively on ESPN J. You officially know that Rashad McDonald
- 40:52Speaker 1: is a fan of you. I was looking for a
- 40:55Speaker 1: better way to check in in our house while I
- 40:57Speaker 1: was at work, and a friend recommended Blank. I was optical,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but decided to give it a shot, and I bought
- 41:02Speaker 1: a Blink camera system. With our last security system, false alarms,
- 41:06Speaker 1: wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get out of
- 41:09Speaker 1: my bad But our Blink system is different. Their motion
- 41:11Speaker 1: activated cameras that work inside and outside, their wire free,
- 41:15Speaker 1: easy to set up, and they run on two lithium
- 41:17Speaker 1: batteries that last up to two years total. Piece of
- 41:19Speaker 1: mind and Blink camera system started under eighty bucks with
- 41:22Speaker 1: no subscriptions. We were on vacation and I gotten to
- 41:25Speaker 1: learn of my smartphone that motion was detected at our
- 41:27Speaker 1: front door. I checked my Blink app and I saw
- 41:30Speaker 1: it was just my cool new device being delivered. Hey,
- 41:33Speaker 1: we agreed no new devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding.
- 41:36Speaker 1: With Blink camera system starting under eighty bucks, home security

- 42:27Speaker 1: I mean, we earned good money, but we're always behind

- 42:32Speaker 1: found two huge problems unplanned expenses like home repairs and
- 42:36Speaker 1: medical bills and credit cards with crazy high interest rates. Anyway,
- 42:40Speaker 1: he grafted out a brilliant strategy. If we could get
- 42:43Speaker 1: a favorable fixed rate personal loan, we could pay off
- 42:46Speaker 1: all our bills and credit cards and still have cash

- 43:24Speaker 1: a very Hi. Just Rushan McDonald and you're listening to
- 43:28Speaker 1: money making conversations and a show that started two years ago. Uh,
- 43:31Speaker 1: it's about two year anniversary and I I just feel
- 43:36Speaker 1: fortunate it was. It's a concept that started as a
- 43:38Speaker 1: just a promotional tool to extend my brand beyond producing
- 43:43Speaker 1: television shows and managing talent because a lot of people
- 43:46Speaker 1: have always uh been inspired by my all my advice
- 43:49Speaker 1: when I tell them, and I decided to start it
- 43:52Speaker 1: on my Facebook page, and it grew from my Facebook
- 43:54Speaker 1: page to a radio show and now so serious exam
- 43:58Speaker 1: it's on cast and it's blowing up in a lot
- 44:02Speaker 1: of positive ways that I didn't expect and not starting
- 44:04Speaker 1: to syndicate. My next guest is a person who has
- 44:07Speaker 1: been with me from the beginning, live in studio phone
- 44:11Speaker 1: calls around the world. She is a five time Grammy
- 44:14Speaker 1: Award winning artists who believes that her music heals, encourages,
- 44:18Speaker 1: and inspires others to trust more than themselves. She is
- 44:22Speaker 1: triumphantly carried the torch for Contemporary Gospel and Inspirational Music
- 44:27Speaker 1: for your thirteen glorious albums. She's an incredible single mom,
- 44:31Speaker 1: an amazing entrepreneur, a mentor who is filled with the spirit,
- 44:34Speaker 1: and blessed with one of the most powerful voices in
- 44:37Speaker 1: any music format. This used Houston native. I gotta say
- 44:40Speaker 1: houstonative because I'm a Houston native and one time school
- 44:44Speaker 1: teacher has been a stately beacon of God's life. Please
- 44:48Speaker 1: working the money making conversation. My good friend you're Landa Adams. Hello,
- 44:55Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. You know it's always fun to happen.
- 44:58Speaker 1: You're on the show. You're like my emotional check up.
- 45:01Speaker 1: You know you would I would tell people the other
- 45:05Speaker 1: you when you want to be successful, you you don't
- 45:07Speaker 1: want to be the smartest person in the room. And
- 45:09Speaker 1: my compliment to her is that it's not the ego
- 45:13Speaker 1: on me, is that she allows me to understand the
- 45:16Speaker 1: value and listening and accepting new information, and so that's
- 45:21Speaker 1: important in any circle that you roll into. So when
- 45:24Speaker 1: she comes on my show we meet in person, it's
- 45:26Speaker 1: always a genuine love and a clear understanding of her
- 45:30Speaker 1: value that she gives not only to me to listen
- 45:33Speaker 1: to advice on it. If you don't follow, you should
- 45:35Speaker 1: follow her on social media. A postal, inspirational hood, a
- 45:39Speaker 1: smile iss joyous, joyous. And then when you listen to
- 45:43Speaker 1: her sing, you're inspired and sometimes brought the tears because
- 45:47Speaker 1: the emotion that she taps into inside. I know God
- 45:51Speaker 1: gave you that talent, Ms Adams, but what allows you
- 45:54Speaker 1: to promote that talent. Well, here's one of the things
- 45:58Speaker 1: that I say about the void. It's um it's fueled
- 46:04Speaker 1: by experience, and triumph. So I know exactly what I'm singing.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I know exactly uh, the emotion that went into overcoming.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And sometimes people want the easy way out when it
- 46:21Speaker 1: comes to life. Whether it's business, relationship, family, it doesn't matter.
- 46:27Speaker 1: We want the easy way. But the easy way is
- 46:30Speaker 1: not the teachable way. Everything you do in your life
- 46:35Speaker 1: is going to cost you something. But here's the deal.
- 46:39Speaker 1: The cost is far less than the glory afterwards. And
- 46:47Speaker 1: so you know that that voice cost me something. It
- 46:50Speaker 1: cost me some people. It cost me, uh you know,
- 46:54Speaker 1: you know recently, it cost me some family members know
- 46:58Speaker 1: through you know, um, through death, its um. It costs
- 47:04Speaker 1: some um, some friends. It costs time, It costs rehearsals,
- 47:11Speaker 1: It costs a lot that people really don't uh you know,
- 47:15Speaker 1: they don't added up. They think that, oh, you just
- 47:20Speaker 1: wake up and you sound like that. No, I wake
- 47:22Speaker 1: up and I do sound like that. But that's years
- 47:25Speaker 1: of being able to do what I do. And then
- 47:28Speaker 1: I don't take the privilege lightly. I look at it
- 47:30Speaker 1: as a privilege. I told someone yesterday. If you are
- 47:34Speaker 1: working in a place or a situation and you don't
- 47:39Speaker 1: feel joy, that is not your assignment. You're just going
- 47:43Speaker 1: to work. You know, it's really important that or time,
- 47:46Speaker 1: I think, and the whole balanced life conversation. I always
- 47:50Speaker 1: try to bring to my guests on the show so
- 47:52Speaker 1: they can tell me how they deal with it, because
- 47:54Speaker 1: she's a very powerful and accomplished single mom and so
- 47:58Speaker 1: when that's what the time comes in right there, and
- 48:01Speaker 1: being that she's famous, it can intrude onto her daughter's life.
- 48:06Speaker 1: And that's very important that people understanding. Like a lot
- 48:09Speaker 1: of people they don't understand, there's so many layers to
- 48:11Speaker 1: being famous. There's so many layers to having especially with
- 48:15Speaker 1: social media, having your life exposed to millions and millions
- 48:18Speaker 1: of people can like you or have a comment about
- 48:21Speaker 1: how you look or what you're doing and why are
- 48:23Speaker 1: you doing it? And so your daughter now is at
- 48:26Speaker 1: Howard University. I know there was much stress, much stress. Well,
- 48:31Speaker 1: what I told you before, they have to go back
- 48:33Speaker 1: to your podcast that we did uh UM in in
- 48:38Speaker 1: Houston where uh we talked about that, and I told you, no,
- 48:41Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be stressed. I have capital police. You know.
- 48:51Speaker 1: The first couple of the first couple of weeks, you know,
- 48:54Speaker 1: being in the house by myself and around missing you know,
- 49:00Speaker 1: making those fruit plates at night. Uh. It taught me
- 49:03Speaker 1: a lot about myself and it taught me, uh to
- 49:07Speaker 1: relax and what I had nurtured her to become. M Well,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you know it's interesting because you know, I have a daughter,
- 49:16Speaker 1: she's twenty one, and she always says she calls me,
- 49:19Speaker 1: and if she don't call me for a couple of days,
- 49:21Speaker 1: she knows, hey, okay, I call her, said, okay, what's
- 49:24Speaker 1: going on there? You know, your dad gotta hear from you,
- 49:28Speaker 1: what's going on in your life. And she's doing amazing
- 49:31Speaker 1: in colleges with the academics. She's on the on the roll.
- 49:33Speaker 1: So she's doing she's living life right. But it's still
- 49:36Speaker 1: as a parent, you know, you you know, you just
- 49:39Speaker 1: want to make sure your your child has a better
- 49:41Speaker 1: life than you have. And also you want them to
- 49:44Speaker 1: be secure. You don't want anything to happen to him.
- 49:46Speaker 1: And I know that that when you when you we
- 49:48Speaker 1: joking talk about these things. But it's all part of
- 49:50Speaker 1: being a good parent, and a book good parent will
- 49:52Speaker 1: always care, you know, and all you wanna do. All
- 49:55Speaker 1: I want to do is my daughter to have a
- 49:56Speaker 1: better life than I have. And I don't want her
- 49:58Speaker 1: to live my life exactly. Well, that does not mean
- 50:02Speaker 1: that we don't FaceTime two or time I give her
- 50:07Speaker 1: her space. But yeah, we're gonna be FaceTime. Oh good.
- 50:12Speaker 1: So let's let's get to this entrepreneurship, young lady. You
- 50:15Speaker 1: know about that making that money while you're sleeping, Now,
- 50:18Speaker 1: that's that's the beauty of what you're doing. Absolutely so
- 50:22Speaker 1: talking about these are y A handbags that are affordable, classy,
- 50:26Speaker 1: elegant for your lifestyle and Soulo online. And first of all,
- 50:30Speaker 1: I'm getting little mad with you because now I've not
- 50:32Speaker 1: gotten any banners and you know, I'm come a million followers.
- 50:39Speaker 1: That's a Ricky Anderson thing, you know. We got Look,
- 50:42Speaker 1: we got your banners coming because because you know the
- 50:45Speaker 1: thing about it, you know especially I want to do
- 50:48Speaker 1: it this week because Mother's Day it's Sunday, So I
- 50:51Speaker 1: like to get those banners up on my site this weekend.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Then I got a newsletter coming out. It's coming out,
- 50:57Speaker 1: and so I wanted to I want to put in
- 50:58Speaker 1: the newsletter. I put you in the subject liss I'll
- 51:00Speaker 1: put you in the subject line. That sounds good to me.
- 51:02Speaker 1: We'll look as soon as I get off the phone
- 51:04Speaker 1: with you. I am going to talk to Ricky. I've
- 51:08Speaker 1: got good friend Ricky, absolutely, because that's what it's about,
- 51:11Speaker 1: relationships and being being an entrepreneur and so as that
- 51:15Speaker 1: as that title grows in your life and tell us
- 51:18Speaker 1: about these handbags? Wow? Uh, you know, I am so
- 51:23Speaker 1: fortunate to be able to um to to create what
- 51:29Speaker 1: I love. And I know people ask me all the time, Rashan,
- 51:34Speaker 1: what are you wearing? Who are you carrying? Who does
- 51:37Speaker 1: your makeup? What kind of makeup? So I started thinking, low,
- 51:41Speaker 1: if a hundred people everywhere I go ask me the
- 51:44Speaker 1: same question, I have probably ten million women somewhere who
- 51:50Speaker 1: would uh pick up whatever I am? You know what
- 51:54Speaker 1: I whatever I have on, whatever I'm carrying. And so
- 51:57Speaker 1: Ricky and I started talking about accessories because you know,
- 52:02Speaker 1: with accessories there's no um, there's no size, so you
- 52:06Speaker 1: don't have a lot of returns. Because that's always my thing,
- 52:11Speaker 1: what's going to give me the best return on my investment,
- 52:15Speaker 1: which will also be applauded by my audience, so they
- 52:20Speaker 1: don't return it and say, oh, I didn't like this
- 52:23Speaker 1: or it didn't fit me. With the scars, handbags, belts,
- 52:28Speaker 1: those kinds of things are so universal every woman needs accessories,
- 52:34Speaker 1: and then every man needs to know, well, what can
- 52:37Speaker 1: I buy my wife or my girlfriend or my mom
- 52:40Speaker 1: that's not going to you know, cost me a grip,
- 52:43Speaker 1: as they say. And I worked with the same guy,
- 52:48Speaker 1: the same manufacturing company that provides bags for um burged
- 52:55Speaker 1: Off and Goodman, also for Bloomingdale, Macys and all of
- 53:01Speaker 1: these places. But it is a direct to consumer um
- 53:07Speaker 1: uh situation. So you don't have the middleman, you don't
- 53:11Speaker 1: have the stock fees, you don't have all of this
- 53:13Speaker 1: kind of stuff, which made a whole lot of sense
- 53:16Speaker 1: to me because you you know, being in business, that
- 53:20Speaker 1: stock fees can go all the way up to a
- 53:23Speaker 1: hundred a hundred fifty dollars according to what you're stocking.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Oh my god, this is amazing. As always, our interviews
- 53:29Speaker 1: are amazing. Again. You owe me a lot of things.
- 53:33Speaker 1: You owe me some banners, uh, I know you can
- 53:36Speaker 1: for white handbags. You owe me banners for simply yr Landa,
- 53:39Speaker 1: your skin care line. You owe me banners for Wake
- 53:41Speaker 1: Up with your Landa, your coffee line. And I can't
