Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest. It used to be
- 0:03Speaker 1: that if you took a trip to your local cineplex,
- 0:06Speaker 1: there'd be just as many comedies on screen as there
- 0:08Speaker 1: are other genres. But over the last decade, comedies essentially
- 0:11Speaker 1: evaporated at the theater, with almost all debuting on streamers instead.
- 0:15Speaker 1: But that changed with the recent reboot of The Naked Gun,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and so did the box office expectations. It's earned more
- 0:20Speaker 1: than fifty six million dollars in counting. The movie has
- 0:23Speaker 1: performed well, and it proved it has to empower a
- 0:26Speaker 1: rarity in this era, continued to rake in money based
- 0:28Speaker 1: on very strong word of mouth, and Seth MacFarland, who
- 0:31Speaker 1: produced A Naked Gun, thinks it sends a clear message
- 0:33Speaker 1: to Hollywood execs, telling you, the Hollywood Reporter, take risks,
- 0:37Speaker 1: make movies that aren't just reboots, though ironically this one is.
- 0:40Speaker 1: The lesson is that people want somebody that's outside the
- 0:42Speaker 1: usual fare. We're just so deluged with superhero movies at
- 0:45Speaker 1: this point. It's like Bill Murray and Groundhog Day, and
- 0:48Speaker 1: he wakes up on that last morning and says, anything
- 0:50Speaker 1: different is good. People just want a little more variety
- 0:53Speaker 1: on their plate. The naked gun in theaters, that's direct
- 0:56Speaker 1: from Hollywood.
