- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 0:01Speaker 2: It is Verdict with Center, Ted Cruz, Ben Ferguson with you,
- 0:05Speaker 2: and I gotta say, if you're a person that loves
- 0:09Speaker 2: the world of politics, even when it can be annoying
- 0:12Speaker 2: sometimes Center, there is nothing more fun than getting ready
- 0:16Speaker 2: for a debate day. And we're finally here, Donald Trump
- 0:20Speaker 2: on stage with Joe Biden.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Well, that's exactly right.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Today is debate day, and we wanted to do a
- 0:26Speaker 4: special podcast today. We didn't do Wednesday's pod because we
- 0:30Speaker 4: wanted this to come out on the day of the debate.
- 0:32Speaker 4: And this is, as Muhammad Ali put it, the rumble
- 0:34Speaker 4: in the jungle. This is the debate tonight between Trump
- 0:37Speaker 4: and Biden. We're gonna break it down. We're going to
- 0:39Speaker 4: talk about what to expect. We're gonna talk about what
- 0:42Speaker 4: each side wants to do, needs to do, and where
- 0:44Speaker 4: the media is going to fall out in all of this.
- 0:47Speaker 4: We're also going to talk about breaking news that the
- 0:50Speaker 4: Department of Homeland Security has announced they've identified over four
- 0:55Speaker 4: hundred illegal immigrants brought to the United States by an
- 0:59Speaker 4: ICE this affiliated human smuggling network, and about fifty of
- 1:04Speaker 4: them remain unknown. They don't know where they are. It
- 1:06Speaker 4: is frightening, and it underscores the risk of terrorism that
- 1:10Speaker 4: every day keeps getting higher and higher and higher under
- 1:14Speaker 4: Joe Biden and the Democrats' open borders.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a shocking story and there are a lot
- 1:18Speaker 2: of people that got in through This isis network that

- 3:14Speaker 2: got a lot of questions that I want to ask
- 3:15Speaker 2: you about debates. You've done a lot of them. You've
- 3:20Speaker 2: been on stage in a debate with Donald Trump. How
- 3:23Speaker 2: did you get ready for a debate, and it's you know,
- 3:29Speaker 2: Donald Trump says, hey, I don't do it the traditional way.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I'm certainly not going to lock myself away for a
- 3:34Speaker 2: week at Camp David and take a lot of napps.
- 3:37Speaker 2: He says, he's not really a traditional debate prepper. That
- 3:41Speaker 2: can be good or bad. It's cost him. I actually
- 3:43Speaker 2: think some debates in the past. So what is your
- 3:46Speaker 2: strategy when you get ready?
- 3:48Speaker 4: Well, my strategy is I think different from a number
- 3:50Speaker 4: of people. What I do is I sit down with
- 3:52Speaker 4: a team. It's typically a team of somewhere between five
- 3:55Speaker 4: and ten people, and I'll spend at least a full
- 3:58Speaker 4: day talking through the I don't do a lot of
- 4:01Speaker 4: play acting. I don't generally have people that are that
- 4:04Speaker 4: are mock acting as whoever else it is I'm debating.
- 4:09Speaker 4: But rather I have really smart people, often their Supreme
- 4:12Speaker 4: Court lawyers, who are sitting down thinking through, all right,
- 4:16Speaker 4: what are the likely questions, what are we going to
- 4:18Speaker 4: talk about? What are the topics that are going to
- 4:20Speaker 4: come up. Part of it is we start with a
- 4:23Speaker 4: meta strategy. What is my objective in this debate? You know,
- 4:26Speaker 4: in a presidential debate, particularly in the primaries where you're
- 4:28Speaker 4: having a bunch of debates, there are different times when
- 4:32Speaker 4: you have different strategies, there's different times when you want
- 4:34Speaker 4: to draw a greater contrast with one candidate versus another,
- 4:38Speaker 4: And so for debate prep, I'll often start with, all right,
- 4:41Speaker 4: what's my objective? A question that I will ask my
- 4:43Speaker 4: team over and over again is what's a win? What
- 4:46Speaker 4: do we want the headline to be at the end
- 4:48Speaker 4: of the debate, And let's think backwards how we produce that,
- 4:51Speaker 4: what is the outcome we want to be? And then
- 4:55Speaker 4: we'll talk through who are the moderators, what are the
- 4:57Speaker 4: questions are going to come? And then for me, rather
- 5:00Speaker 4: than practicing an answer, I don't want answers to sound rehearsed.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I don't I don't want to just stand.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Up and give a set piece, We'll talk instead about
- 5:08Speaker 4: all right, what are the likely questions and what is
- 5:12Speaker 4: the strategy or approach for answers, and and we'll go
- 5:16Speaker 4: through that at considerable length and talk back and forth
- 5:19Speaker 4: about Okay, how's the how is my opponent going to
- 5:22Speaker 4: come back after that? And what's the strategy? What do
- 5:24Speaker 4: I want my opponent to say, and what's my response
- 5:27Speaker 4: to where they're going, and so it will be.
- 5:30Speaker 3: It's actually been for me.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Debate prep is very much the same way I would
- 5:35Speaker 4: prepare for Supreme Court arguments. I would do moots at times,
- 5:39Speaker 4: but particularly as I had done more and more Supreme
- 5:43Speaker 4: Court arguments, I ended up arguing nine times in front
- 5:47Speaker 4: of the US Supreme Court, and particularly for the later ones,
- 5:49Speaker 4: rather than actually play acting out the argument, I would
- 5:53Speaker 4: do the same thing. I would talk through with smart
- 5:57Speaker 4: strategists where we wanted to go and what we wanted
- 6:01Speaker 4: to get done.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I love getting ready for debate prep and have gotten
- 6:06Speaker 2: to be a part of it several different times at
- 6:08Speaker 2: different levels. And I've also seen the candidate that over prepares.
- 6:14Speaker 2: How do you make sure you don't do that? Because
- 6:16Speaker 2: when you get too many thoughts and too much information
- 6:20Speaker 2: and too many lines as you described, and can sound
- 6:23Speaker 2: pre rehearse, that I've seen be a disaster for candidates.
- 6:27Speaker 2: We've seen this on the national stage in President of
- 6:29Speaker 2: debates before as well.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 6:33Speaker 4: You don't want to be wooden. You don't want to
- 6:36Speaker 4: be overrehearsed. You don't want to come off as overrehearsed.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I think the most notable example of that was in
- 6:43Speaker 4: twenty sixteen in the primaries the New Hampshire debate, where
- 6:48Speaker 4: Chris Christy went after Barco Rubio and I was standing there,
- 6:52Speaker 4: I was right next to Chris, and I mean what
- 6:55Speaker 4: Chris did DeMarco was as brutal as we've ever seen
- 6:58Speaker 4: in any debate, because he is going after Marco and
- 7:02Speaker 4: accusing him being a robot, and and Marco kept saying
- 7:04Speaker 4: the same thing over and over again and and and
- 7:09Speaker 4: Chris just pounded him for it, and and it ended
- 7:14Speaker 4: up I mean, I have to say for the rest
- 7:15Speaker 4: of us, but we were kind of like, all right enough,
- 7:18Speaker 4: Chris cut you know, you're you're You're like, you're killing
- 7:21Speaker 4: the guy. But but it was Marco ran into trouble
- 7:24Speaker 4: because he had a set piece that I guess he'd
- 7:26Speaker 4: practiced that that that he repeated I think three separate
- 7:29Speaker 4: times in a row, and and Christy really took advantage
- 7:32Speaker 4: of it. That's not something you want to have happened.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Now.
- 7:36Speaker 4: The good news is, I think the chances of Trump
- 7:39Speaker 4: doing that are zero. That's that's not how he prepares
- 7:41Speaker 4: for a debate. And I don't think there's any risk
- 7:43Speaker 4: of him doing that.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah, there's been a lot of this, and let's move
- 7:46Speaker 2: to Trump about hey, is he is he getting ready
- 7:51Speaker 2: the way that he should be getting ready. He had
- 7:53Speaker 2: a weak debate against Joe Biden in the last presidential
- 7:57Speaker 2: cycle that some believe may have cost him the White House.
- 8:00Speaker 2: He also said in an interesting article in the Washington Examiner, quote,
- 8:04Speaker 2: so I've been in sixteen seventeen debates? Trump answered it.
- 8:09Speaker 2: In response to a question. He said, quote, I think
- 8:11Speaker 2: I've won almost all of him. I did well against
- 8:15Speaker 2: Ted Cruz. That would be you, who is a good debater?
- 8:18Speaker 2: All these guys. I became president. Some people say I
- 8:22Speaker 2: became president because of these debates. You can't tell until
- 8:26Speaker 2: you get up on the stage, because it depends on
- 8:29Speaker 2: how he comes out. And I think you know he's
- 8:32Speaker 2: referring obviously to Joe Biden.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah, now look that's right. And Trump is very loose
- 8:38Speaker 4: in debates. He can be all over the place, but
- 8:43Speaker 4: he tends to punch back. That's his instincts, you know,
- 8:46Speaker 4: in terms of how he prepares for debates, particularly now,
- 8:50Speaker 4: I think what he does is he does rallies. He
- 8:52Speaker 4: goes to rallies and he riffs that and he finds
- 8:54Speaker 4: themes that he thinks might work, and he sees how
- 8:57Speaker 4: people react. I think a great example of that is
- 9:00Speaker 4: the Las Vegas rally he did not too long ago,
- 9:02Speaker 4: where where he rolled out the idea of no taxes
- 9:05Speaker 4: on tips and and and actually, you know when when
- 9:09Speaker 4: I had lunch with Trump a week before last, he
- 9:13Speaker 4: talked talked to me and all the other Republican senators
- 9:16Speaker 4: about where that came from. And he said he was
- 9:18Speaker 4: sitting in the hotel room right before the rally, and
- 9:21Speaker 4: he and and he was having some food, and the
- 9:23Speaker 4: waitress came up, and and and and he said, the waitress,
- 9:26Speaker 4: she said she was beautiful. She was beautiful, and we
- 9:29Speaker 4: all believed we all believed him. And he said that
- 9:32Speaker 4: she was. She was complaining about the burden of of
- 9:35Speaker 4: all the record keeping for her tips and and and
- 9:37Speaker 4: that it was really a pain, and that she didn't
- 9:40Speaker 4: like it. And Trump said he just pulled out pulled
- 9:42Speaker 4: out a pen and wrote down no taxes on tips
- 9:45Speaker 4: and and he he told us, he said, look, this
- 9:48Speaker 4: didn't come from a white paper, This didn't come from
- 9:50Speaker 4: a bunch of tax experts. This just came from the
- 9:52Speaker 4: conversation I had with the waitress, and then he said
- 9:54Speaker 4: at the rally, I decided to say it, and I said,
- 9:58Speaker 4: no taxes on tips, and he said and they went crazy,
- 10:01Speaker 4: They went wild, And I got to say, by the way,
- 10:04Speaker 4: I think is a policy proposal that one is political genius,
- 10:09Speaker 4: and in fact, so much so that the week after
- 10:12Speaker 4: he did it, I drafted legislation and filed legislation to
- 10:16Speaker 4: make tips tax free because I actually agree with the
- 10:19Speaker 4: idea strongly, and I think Republicans should be the party
- 10:23Speaker 4: of waiters and waitresses and bartenders and barbers and hairstylists
- 10:29Speaker 4: and taxicab drivers and uber drivers, and we're a blue
- 10:32Speaker 4: collar party, and I think no taxes on tips is
- 10:35Speaker 4: right at the heart of it, a tax relief proposal
- 10:38Speaker 4: that goes goes exactly to the people we're fighting for.
- 10:41Speaker 2: But that's Isn't it amazing by the way that Trump,
- 10:43Speaker 2: now two of his biggest things have connected, whether it's
- 10:46Speaker 2: twenty twenty or twenty sixteen, were kind of off the cuff.
- 10:49Speaker 2: That build the Wall part, which became a co the
- 10:52Speaker 2: center point, the cornerstone of his campaign.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Sixteen was the same thing. It was a riff.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and he talks.
- 10:58Speaker 4: About that how at a rally, he'll he'll essentially field
- 11:02Speaker 4: test things. He'll put something out and see how people
- 11:04Speaker 4: react and listen. The man has a really strong instinctual
- 11:09Speaker 4: sense of people.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Look.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I think the proposal of no taxes on tips, without exaggeration,
- 11:15Speaker 4: I think that policy alone could could win in the
- 11:19Speaker 4: state of Nevada. There's an enormous number of casino workers
- 11:23Speaker 4: who who who get a significant part of their compensation
- 11:26Speaker 4: from tips. There's a reason that crowd went wild because
- 11:29Speaker 4: it spoke directly to people who are struggling, who are
- 11:32Speaker 4: working towards the American dream. And I think you're right
- 11:34Speaker 4: he did that with Bill the Wall that he tries
- 11:37Speaker 4: different riffs and themes, and so I would expect that
- 11:40Speaker 4: that that same dynamic. You know, it's interesting that that
- 11:44Speaker 4: interview you were reading with byron Yorke with Trump on debates,
- 11:47Speaker 4: that there was a portion of it that I thought
- 11:49Speaker 4: was was very interesting. Well, which is he talked about
- 11:54Speaker 4: the rules of this debate, and here's what Trump said,
- 11:56Speaker 4: he said quote. What they did, I'm pretty sure is
- 12:00Speaker 4: that they approached me with a debate that I couldn't take.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Dana Bash Jake Tapper, whom Trump referred to as fake
- 12:08Speaker 4: Tapper in the interview, no audience, sitting down originally sitting
- 12:12Speaker 4: down a dead debate, turn off the mics when you're
- 12:15Speaker 4: not speaking so I can't interrupt him. They knew I
- 12:17Speaker 4: wouldn't accept that because it was CNN, it was Dana Bash,
- 12:20Speaker 4: Jake Tapper, and I like it audience, and probably he doesn't,
- 12:23Speaker 4: who knows, so they thought they would present it. I
- 12:27Speaker 4: would say no, and then they would say we can't
- 12:30Speaker 4: debate because Trump said no. So I said yes before
- 12:34Speaker 4: they even gave me the terms. So he got roped
- 12:37Speaker 4: into it.
- 12:38Speaker 5: All right.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I agree with every word at what Trump just said there.
- 12:41Speaker 4: And it's interesting, listen. I think this debate, every one
- 12:45Speaker 4: of these rules is stacked to be against Trump. The
- 12:49Speaker 4: fact that it is in a studio with no audience.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Trump feeds off an audience, He plays to an audience.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Biden's terrified by an audience, says the reason he turns
- 12:57Speaker 4: out six people to his events so that favors him. CNN, Tapper,
- 13:02Speaker 4: and and Bash are going to come after Trump relentlessly.
- 13:06Speaker 4: It's not gonna be Trump versus Biden. It is going
- 13:08Speaker 4: to be Trump versus Biden and CNN. And and and
- 13:13Speaker 4: and then the turning off the MIC's bit.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Really is garbage.
- 13:18Speaker 4: It's it's because Biden can't actually handle real conflict in
- 13:22Speaker 4: the debate, and so he's asked CNN please stop mean
- 13:26Speaker 4: mister Trump from from saying anything when I'm talking and listen.
- 13:32Speaker 4: All of that skews towards Biden. But I also agree
- 13:34Speaker 4: with with Trump's instinct, which is if he had pushed back,
- 13:38Speaker 4: the Biden team desperately wanted to get out of this debate.
- 13:41Speaker 4: They wanted to cancel it, and so they wanted to
- 13:43Speaker 4: propose rules that that that were so skewed. Trump would
- 13:47Speaker 4: push back and they could say, oh, it was Trump
- 13:49Speaker 4: who canceled the debate, Guess we can't have it. And
- 13:51Speaker 4: and so I completely agree with the decision. Fine, you
- 13:55Speaker 4: get all the rules. It's skewed for you, We're going
- 13:57Speaker 4: to have a debate. And and and listen, I'm gonna
- 13:59Speaker 4: make a prediction right now. My prediction is tonight Donald
- 14:03Speaker 4: Trump is going to kick Joe Biden's ass in this debate.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Is How's he going to do that?
- 14:10Speaker 2: And I want to go back to sixteen for example,
- 14:13Speaker 2: you know, he was on defense a lot.
- 14:15Speaker 1: He enjoyed that aspect of the debates.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I think at some point when he felt like, Okay,
- 14:20Speaker 2: I'm the front runner and everybody's coming at me on
- 14:22Speaker 2: the left and the right of the stage. Then in
- 14:25Speaker 2: the last presidential debates that he was involved with, he
- 14:28Speaker 2: was on defense because of COVID in the economy and
- 14:31Speaker 2: inflation and things that were happening. And this time he's
- 14:35Speaker 2: not on defense. He can absolutely go on offense. But
- 14:39Speaker 2: does he have to be careful about his demeanor? Does
- 14:41Speaker 2: he need to philosophically get the audience from point A
- 14:45Speaker 2: to point B and kind of tone it down a
- 14:48Speaker 2: little bit and make it clear, Hey, look, I'm running
- 14:52Speaker 2: because people are hurting and people that were not hurting
- 14:55Speaker 2: when I left office are now hurting. Is that a
- 14:58Speaker 2: strategy that he should implement. What should demeanor be?
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 15:02Speaker 4: Look, I think it is very important that that he
- 15:06Speaker 4: be toned down, that he not come in with a chainsaw.
- 15:11Speaker 4: And if you look at the first debate in twenty twenty,
- 15:15Speaker 4: the first debate in twenty twenty, he came out swinging,
- 15:18Speaker 4: he was attacking, he was relentless, and I think the
- 15:21Speaker 4: consequence of it is he bailed Joe Biden out Joe
- 15:24Speaker 4: Biden was not doing well, but Trump interrupted so much
- 15:28Speaker 4: that that it actually gave Biden an excuse just to
- 15:30Speaker 4: shut up and let Trump be super aggressive. And particularly
- 15:36Speaker 4: when Biden's answers are not very good, you got to
- 15:39Speaker 4: give him a chance to give him and give him
- 15:42Speaker 4: the rope to hang himself.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And it's interesting.
- 15:43Speaker 4: In this same interview Trump did with with with Byron York,
- 15:47Speaker 4: he addresses this, So Byron York asks him, says, quote,
- 15:51Speaker 4: a lot of people thought in the first debate with
- 15:53Speaker 4: Biden that you were somewhat overamped, that you just went
- 15:57Speaker 4: after him too much. Trump responds that I interrupt him. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 4: I think And Byron Yorke says, do you agree with that?
- 16:04Speaker 4: And here's what Trump said, Mmm huh. Then, after a
- 16:07Speaker 4: short pause, he defended the interruptions before conceding that yes,
- 16:10Speaker 4: there were too many. Quote, he lies so much. Trump said,
- 16:15Speaker 4: he's going on everything he says is a lie. So
- 16:17Speaker 4: I would call him because calling him out two minutes
- 16:20Speaker 4: later is very tough because you know it's a lie.
- 16:22Speaker 4: It's a lie. Everything's a lie. I've never seen anything
- 16:24Speaker 4: like it. So when I would interrupt, it look like
- 16:27Speaker 4: I agree. Though the second debate, I handled it much
- 16:29Speaker 4: differently and got very good marks. And so look, I
- 16:33Speaker 4: understand he was in the attack mode, and that's fine,
- 16:37Speaker 4: but it ended up bailing bailing Biden out. I also
- 16:41Speaker 4: agree with this comment there that Trump was much more
- 16:44Speaker 4: effective in the second debate against Biden than in the first.
- 16:48Speaker 4: And what I hope we see tonight is that Trump
- 16:52Speaker 4: very calmly lays out the facts that Biden has screwed
- 16:57Speaker 4: everything up, that Biden and heer did peace and prosperity,
- 17:02Speaker 4: and that right now inflation is hammering working people, that
- 17:05Speaker 4: that right now the economy people are hurting, that right
- 17:08Speaker 4: now crime is rising far too high, that right now
- 17:12Speaker 4: the border is an absolute chaos, and people are dying,
- 17:15Speaker 4: and it's the worst in history. That on foreign policy,
- 17:20Speaker 4: when Biden came into office, Donald Trump had just finished
- 17:23Speaker 4: signing the Abraham Accords, we had peace in the Middle East.
- 17:25Speaker 4: We now have two simultaneous wars, and and and what
- 17:29Speaker 4: I hope that Trump does is simply lay out the
- 17:34Speaker 4: facts that that on almost any every measure, the American
- 17:38Speaker 4: people were better off when Trump was president than when
- 17:41Speaker 4: Biden is president. And I think those facts are strong
- 17:44Speaker 4: enough that he doesn't need to beat Biden over the
- 17:49Speaker 4: head with tone or rhetoric. I'd let the facts do
- 17:52Speaker 4: the work and and and and force Biden to defend himself.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I would also try very much to surprise Biden, to
- 18:02Speaker 4: cause him to ask him questions, to challenge him, not
- 18:06Speaker 4: in a yelling manner, and because his microphone will be
- 18:09Speaker 4: turned off of doesn't have the podium, that will be limited,
- 18:12Speaker 4: but to challenge him very directly, to ask him questions
- 18:16Speaker 4: that he can't give a set, memorized answer to, because
- 18:21Speaker 4: I think Biden's prep team is giving him lots and
- 18:24Speaker 4: lots of set memorized answers. They're trying to feed him
- 18:28Speaker 4: substance that he can just regurgitate.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Final question on this what do you think is the
- 18:33Speaker 2: top maybe one to three subjects that Donald Trump has
- 18:39Speaker 2: to make sure that he spends quality time on. And
- 18:45Speaker 2: I may shock you on this one, you may disagree.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I think there's certain issues that you don't spend a
- 18:50Speaker 2: lot of time on. For example, I don't think you
- 18:53Speaker 2: spend that much time on the Biden crime family, because
- 18:56Speaker 2: I think you can get into the weeds and waste
- 18:58Speaker 2: valuable time talking to the average American that might not
- 19:02Speaker 2: care that much about that compared to the economy, or
- 19:05Speaker 2: an open border, or a fetnyl coming across the southern border.
- 19:09Speaker 1: The list goes on and on.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Yeah, look, I agree with that.
- 19:13Speaker 4: There's lots of concerning evidence about Biden corruption, but I
- 19:17Speaker 4: think a lot of voters are not following that very closely.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Those that are know about it, the rest, I don't
- 19:22Speaker 4: think are going to be persuaded by it. I would
- 19:24Speaker 4: have just about every comment Trump makes be about how
- 19:30Speaker 4: your life is different. Look, the classic question, and in
- 19:34Speaker 4: any in any election, is are you better off today
- 19:38Speaker 4: than you were four years ago? And and on almost
- 19:41Speaker 4: every metric, the answer is clear. For the vast majority
- 19:44Speaker 4: of Americans things were better when Trump was president than now,
- 19:48Speaker 4: and and and and so I would have it. I
- 19:50Speaker 4: would have immigration front and center. I think it is
- 19:53Speaker 4: quite likely that that that that Trump is going to
- 19:57Speaker 4: talk about Joscelyn Nungary, the the twelve year old beautiful
- 20:01Speaker 4: girl who was assaulted and murdered in Houston just a
- 20:06Speaker 4: few days ago by two illegal immigrants Joe Biden released.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I think he's going to talk about Rachel Marin, the
- 20:11Speaker 4: beautiful mother of five who was raped and murdered in
- 20:14Speaker 4: suburban Maryland by illegal immigrants that Joe Biden released. I
- 20:18Speaker 4: think he's going to talk about the thirteen year old
- 20:20Speaker 4: girl just a few days ago who was raped in
- 20:23Speaker 4: a public park in New York by an illegal immigrant
- 20:26Speaker 4: that Joe Biden released, And I think he's going to
- 20:28Speaker 4: talk or he should talk about the eight suspected terrorist
- 20:32Speaker 4: isis K terrorist from Tajikistan who were just arrested on
- 20:37Speaker 4: suspicion of a terrorist attack a plot, and again who
- 20:42Speaker 4: Joe Biden released, and I hope he walks systematically through
- 20:47Speaker 4: one after the other after the other. You know, you
- 20:49Speaker 4: look at how on defense, how unprepared Biden was for
- 20:54Speaker 4: Lake and Riley during the State of the Union, where
- 20:56Speaker 4: his defense during the State of the Union was well,
- 21:00Speaker 4: an illegal killed her, Well, legals kill people too. You know,
- 21:04Speaker 4: if that's Biden's defense, that's not going to go well.
- 21:07Speaker 4: And given how horrific the facts are here, I think Trump.
- 21:14Speaker 4: You know, there's an old line in a court of law,
- 21:16Speaker 4: which is, if you have the facts, you bang the facts.
- 21:20Speaker 4: If you have the law, you bang the law. If
- 21:23Speaker 4: you have neither, you bang the table. There's some truth
- 21:28Speaker 4: to that. The facts of just how bad Biden's record
- 21:32Speaker 4: is are so compelling that Trump doesn't need to be overstated.
- 21:38Speaker 4: And in fact, in the same interview he went on
- 21:41Speaker 4: a little bit more and he said, quote, I was
- 21:44Speaker 4: very aggressive in the first one talking about the twenty
- 21:46Speaker 4: twenty debate with Biden. The second one I was different,
- 21:49Speaker 4: and I got great marks on the second one. It
- 21:52Speaker 4: was a little unfair because in the second one a
- 21:54Speaker 4: lot of votes had already been cast. So I'm probably
- 21:57Speaker 4: gonna look at the scene at the time. It's like
- 21:59Speaker 4: a fight. It depends on what the situation is. And
- 22:02Speaker 4: and so I think I hope he's going to try
- 22:06Speaker 4: more to emulate how he conducted the second debate. I
- 22:11Speaker 4: think he was much stronger in the second debate. And
- 22:14Speaker 4: I think you asked what topics that Trump is going
- 22:18Speaker 4: to be sure to raise, And that's actually when you
- 22:21Speaker 4: asked me before, Ben about preparing for debates. When I
- 22:24Speaker 4: thought about a Supreme Court argument, I would always come
- 22:27Speaker 4: up with a list of what I call must raise points,
- 22:31Speaker 4: and they're typically three to five points. And my test
- 22:33Speaker 4: for it was if when the argument was done and
- 22:36Speaker 4: I sat down, if this point had not come out
- 22:42Speaker 4: of my mouth, would I be pissed. Would I be
- 22:44Speaker 4: kicking myself saying how did I get through this oral
- 22:47Speaker 4: argument and not make this point? Because it is critical,
- 22:49Speaker 4: it is why we should prevail in this Supreme Court argument.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I would think about debates the same way, and when
- 22:56Speaker 4: I prepare for them, I do I think about, all right,
- 23:00Speaker 4: what are the substitutive points that, more than anything else,
- 23:04Speaker 4: I want people at the end of the debate to
- 23:06Speaker 4: remember and to say, this is what the election is
- 23:09Speaker 4: all about. So I think immigration is going to be
- 23:12Speaker 4: a huge part about it. I think it's the biggest
- 23:14Speaker 4: issue in this election. I think inflation in the economy
- 23:18Speaker 4: is right behind it, and I think people are really
- 23:20Speaker 4: unhappy with inflation in the economy. And I think I
- 23:23Speaker 4: hope Trump does a good job of laying out, for example,
- 23:27Speaker 4: the connection of energy and the Biden administration's war on
- 23:31Speaker 4: American energy and why that's driving inflation. I think that's
- 23:34Speaker 4: a very powerful point. And then I also think on
- 23:37Speaker 4: foreign policy, look, Trump is going to point out what
- 23:40Speaker 4: is it with Democrats in forever wars? That when Trump
- 23:43Speaker 4: was president, he got us out of a war, he
- 23:46Speaker 4: defeated ISIS and ended the war, and Joe Biden gets office,
- 23:52Speaker 4: and he goes from peace and prosperity to the biggest
- 23:56Speaker 4: war in Europe since World War II and the worst
- 23:58Speaker 4: war in the Middle East in fifty years. And objectively,
- 24:01Speaker 4: the whole world is on fire. And I think Biden.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Biden has a lot of hubris, a lot of arrogance.
- 24:08Speaker 4: He thinks is a foreign policy expert. And I think
- 24:12Speaker 4: Trump making the point that Joe, you've screwed the entire
- 24:17Speaker 4: world up, that there has not been a president who's
- 24:21Speaker 4: messed foreign policy up this badly since Jimmy Carter. I
- 24:25Speaker 4: think that will drive Biden crazy and is a point
- 24:27Speaker 4: I really hope Trump makes.
- 24:29Speaker 2: There's another debate that's going to take place outside of
- 24:33Speaker 2: the Trump the Biden debate, and that is the debate
- 24:37Speaker 2: that could happen with CNN in the commentators. The two
- 24:41Speaker 2: people that have been chosen are huge hacks that cannot
- 24:46Speaker 2: stand Donald Trump.
- 24:47Speaker 1: The evidence here, it is.
- 24:49Speaker 6: The dehumanizing rhetoric of Adolf Hitler is once again alive
- 24:54Speaker 6: and well on a national political stage, this time, of course,
- 24:58Speaker 6: in the United States, this time give in life by
- 25:00Speaker 6: former presidents and current Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump. If
- 25:04Speaker 6: you were to open up a copy of Hitler's Mindkomf
- 25:08Speaker 6: you would find the Nazi leader describing the mixing of
- 25:11Speaker 6: non Germans with Germans as poisoning. There's really no other
- 25:16Speaker 6: way to say it. Donald Trump's language mirrors this directly.
- 25:20Speaker 7: Longstanding anti Semitic trope that the true allegiance for Jews
- 25:25Speaker 7: is to their religion rather than their country. It was
- 25:27Speaker 7: used in Nazi Germany to justify the arrest, persecutions, and
- 25:31Speaker 7: mass killings attempted extermination of the Jewish people, and Trump
- 25:35Speaker 7: has been pushing this trope for years.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Those are your two moderators of the debate, Senator, and look,
- 25:45Speaker 2: I worked with Dana. I've done presidential debates with Dana.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I've done post preimposed election coverage, convention coverage, debate coverage
- 25:55Speaker 2: with her and with Jake Tapper. I witness it for
- 25:59Speaker 2: seven years behind the scenes. They both hate Trump, they
- 26:03Speaker 2: both hate conservatives. This is normal. There's no way this
- 26:07Speaker 2: is going to be a fair fight. How would you
- 26:09Speaker 2: deal with it?
- 26:10Speaker 3: Yeah, Look, they're going to come after him relentlessly. You're right.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I've done lots and lots of interviews with both both
- 26:18Speaker 4: Jake and Dana. I've done presidential debates with Jake and Dana.
- 26:22Speaker 4: They're going to come in with an agenda. You know,
- 26:24Speaker 4: it's ironic the portion you raised. You look at right
- 26:27Speaker 4: now where all of the vicious anti semitism is coming from,
- 26:31Speaker 4: and it's the left. It's the radical left that are
- 26:33Speaker 4: protesting on campus, it's the squad, it's the Democrat Party.
- 26:37Speaker 4: And yet in CNN world, it's Trump that is anti semitic.
- 26:42Speaker 4: And it's just it is. They're coming in with a
- 26:46Speaker 4: clear agenda. I don't expect them to ask difficult questions Biden.
- 26:50Speaker 4: I expect them to go after relentlessly. I think they're
- 26:53Speaker 4: obsessed with January sixth. I think you're going to get
- 26:56Speaker 4: multiple questions about January sixth. They're going to try to
- 26:58Speaker 4: prosecute them January sixth. I also we've seen CNN is
- 27:02Speaker 4: obsessed with the trials. I think you're gonna get questions
- 27:05Speaker 4: about Gene Carroll. I think you're gonna get questions about
- 27:08Speaker 4: Stormy Daniels. By the way, none of which matters to
- 27:13Speaker 4: an American family who's worried about putting food on the table,
- 27:16Speaker 4: who's worried about keeping their kids safe. But CNN is
- 27:20Speaker 4: not trying to ask questions that are helpful for a
- 27:24Speaker 4: voter to decide whom to vote for instead. And when
- 27:29Speaker 4: I said Trump should be overstated, I meant really with
- 27:32Speaker 4: respect to Biden. If if CNN it acts like you
- 27:37Speaker 4: and I both think they're gonna act, which is as
- 27:39Speaker 4: wild eyed partisans. I think Trump should should be perfectly
- 27:43Speaker 4: fine just calling them out on it. And they're so
- 27:47Speaker 4: thin skin that they're so sensitive.
- 27:50Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:50Speaker 4: It was really striking this week when when when you
- 27:53Speaker 4: had a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign on CNN and
- 27:57Speaker 4: she was laying out both both Jake and Dana's long
- 28:00Speaker 4: history of antagonism to Trump, and CNN ended the interview.
- 28:04Speaker 4: They're like, no, no, I'm not gonna let you talk
- 28:06Speaker 4: badly about my colleagues. We're done. You can't say that.
- 28:10Speaker 4: And I got to say, Ben, when a so called
- 28:14Speaker 4: journalistic outlet censors what you say and says you can't
- 28:19Speaker 4: criticize us, we are beyond criticism. That's not journalism. And
- 28:24Speaker 4: I think they are really thin skinned, and I think
- 28:27Speaker 4: we're going to see that tonight.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I have no doubt about it.
- 28:30Speaker 2: I want to talk to you real quick about your
- 28:32Speaker 2: cell phone and if you've got a cell phone. That is,
- 28:37Speaker 2: with Big Mobile, you may not realize that when you
- 28:39Speaker 2: pay your bill every month, you're supporting democratic causes and
- 28:44Speaker 2: candidates that are running at the local, state, and national
- 28:47Speaker 2: level with major donations. You may not realize your money
- 28:51Speaker 2: is going to extremist groups, just like Plan Parenthood. That
- 28:56Speaker 2: is why I made the switch Patriot Mobile. I use it,
- 28:59Speaker 2: I travel all the time. I get phenomenal service and

- 29:12Speaker 2: same exact towers that you're using right now. But when
- 29:15Speaker 2: you switch to Patriot Mobile, something amazing happens. They take
- 29:17Speaker 2: about five percent of your bill every month and no extraditional,
- 29:20Speaker 2: no extra charge to you, and they give it back
- 29:23Speaker 2: directly to causes, candidates and organizations. Is to support our
- 29:27Speaker 2: First and our Second Amendment rights. They support the rights
- 29:31Speaker 2: of unborn children, and they also support our military. Our
- 29:35Speaker 2: veterans are wounded warriors. This is why I love Patriot Mobile.
- 29:41Speaker 2: They make sure that when you make a call, you
- 29:44Speaker 2: send a text, and when you pay your bill, you're

- 30:06Speaker 2: can upgrade to a new one if you choose to
- 30:09Speaker 2: call them and see how easy it is to switch.
- 30:11Speaker 2: In twenty twenty four nine seven to two Patriot. That's
- 30:15Speaker 2: nine seven to two Patriot nine seven to two Patriot
- 30:19Speaker 2: or Patriot Mobile dot com slash verdict. That's Patriot Mobile
- 30:24Speaker 2: dot com slash verdict sentata. I want to move to
- 30:28Speaker 2: another shocking story. Uh, and it is one that I
- 30:34Speaker 2: wish I could say I didn't think we would see. Unfortunately,
- 30:40Speaker 2: you predicted it. We've talked about it that this was
- 30:42Speaker 2: going to keep happening. This one, though, is extremely concerning.
- 30:46Speaker 2: The Department of Homeland Security has identified now quote, over
- 30:50Speaker 2: four hundred migrants brought to the US by an ISIS
- 30:55Speaker 2: affiliated human smuggling network, and now they are they're desperately
- 31:01Speaker 2: trying to find people they had caught and released. Now
- 31:05Speaker 2: over one hundred and fifty of them have been arrested,
- 31:08Speaker 2: but the whereabouts of over fifty remain unknown.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Your reaction.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Look, this is a shocking story that in some ways
- 31:18Speaker 4: is not shocking because we know that this administration that
- 31:22Speaker 4: Joe Biden and the Democrats have effectively rolled out the
- 31:25Speaker 4: red carpet and with open borders, have given an invitation
- 31:29Speaker 4: to terrorists to come into the country. But even so,
- 31:34Speaker 4: the degree of naivete and reckless disregard for the safety
- 31:38Speaker 4: of Americans is remarkable. So here's the story. According to NBC,
- 31:43Speaker 4: and I'm just going to quote NBC quote, the Department
- 31:46Speaker 4: of Homeland Security has identified over four hundred immigrants from
- 31:49Speaker 4: Central Asia and elsewhere who crossed into the US in
- 31:52Speaker 4: the past three years as subjects of concern because they
- 31:56Speaker 4: were brought by an ISIS affiliated human smug network, three
- 32:01Speaker 4: US officials tell NBC News. While over one hundred and
- 32:04Speaker 4: fifty of them have been arrested, the whereabouts of over
- 32:07Speaker 4: fifty remain unknown, the official said, and Immigration and Customs
- 32:10Speaker 4: Enforcement is looking to arrest them on immigration charges when
- 32:14Speaker 4: they are located. One of the US officials and people
- 32:18Speaker 4: said people affiliated with ISIS are operating as human smugglers
- 32:23Speaker 4: in Central Asia and helping people there leave their countries
- 32:26Speaker 4: and travel to the West, where they are smuggled into
- 32:29Speaker 4: the US. It is not known whether the human smuggling
- 32:32Speaker 4: activity directly funds ISIS activities, or whether ISIS members are
- 32:37Speaker 4: making personal money through human smuggling on the side, the
- 32:40Speaker 4: US official said. The official added that the US has
- 32:44Speaker 4: no indication that the more than four hundred migrants brought
- 32:48Speaker 4: to the US by the network have plans to carry
- 32:51Speaker 4: out terrorism in the US, but immigration agents are looking
- 32:55Speaker 4: to arrest them out of an abundance of caution. And
- 32:58Speaker 4: here's a quote from the Bible Administration quote. In this case,
- 33:03Speaker 4: it was the information that suggested a potential tie to
- 33:05Speaker 4: ISIS because some of the individuals involved in smuggling migrants
- 33:09Speaker 4: to the borders, that led us to want to take
- 33:12Speaker 4: extra care and out of an abundance of caution, make
- 33:15Speaker 4: sure that we exercised our authority in the most expansive
- 33:18Speaker 4: and appropriate way to mitigate risk because of this potential
- 33:21Speaker 4: connection being made.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Now that's the.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Quote, And what utter and complete garbage out of an
- 33:28Speaker 4: abundance of caution, Yeah, we let four hundred people go
- 33:31Speaker 4: that ISIS had smuggled into the country because we're so cautious,
- 33:34Speaker 4: and then we realized, wait a second, there's an election.
- 33:37Speaker 4: There's an election coming up in five months, and all
- 33:40Speaker 4: these people that ISIS smuggled in if they carry out
- 33:42Speaker 4: a terrorist attack and people realize we let them go,
- 33:45Speaker 4: that's going to be a real problem.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Oh crap, does anyone know where they are?
- 33:48Speaker 5: Like?
- 33:49Speaker 3: What an insane statement?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Well, and not just insane, but it's also interesting to
- 33:56Speaker 2: see now how the media is covering this. NBC Nightly
- 33:59Speaker 2: News actually ran this on the Nightly News and called
- 34:04Speaker 2: it an NBC investigation.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Listen tonight.
- 34:07Speaker 8: NBC News has learned more than fifty migrants with potential
- 34:11Speaker 8: ties to an ISIS affiliated smuggling network are at large
- 34:15Speaker 8: in America. Many illegally crossed the border and were released
- 34:18Speaker 8: into the US by border patrol because there was no
- 34:21Speaker 8: information suggesting terrortize at the time. Now their whereabouts are
- 34:25Speaker 8: unknown as immigration agents look to arrest them.
- 34:28Speaker 1: US officials tell.
- 34:29Speaker 8: Us saying they're among a group of over four hundred
- 34:32Speaker 8: migrants DHS identified in the US from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Kyrkistan, Georgia,
- 34:39Speaker 8: and Russia as subjects of concern because they were brought
- 34:42Speaker 8: to the US by an ISIS affiliated smuggling network, something
- 34:46Speaker 8: the FBI director warned about earlier this year.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Some of the overseas facilitators of the smuggling network have
- 34:52Speaker 2: ISIS ties that were very concerned about.
- 34:55Speaker 8: Ice IS located and arrested over one hundred and fifty
- 34:58Speaker 8: of the four hundred migrants so with some already deported
- 35:02Speaker 8: from the US. Officials say, adding authorities are not panicking
- 35:05Speaker 8: because their ties to ISIS are not certain, but they're
- 35:08Speaker 8: prioritizing their arrest out of an abundance of caution.
- 35:12Speaker 5: The problem is the volume of people coming across the
- 35:15Speaker 5: southern border. Individuals from ISIS and other affiliated groups have
- 35:20Speaker 5: recognized it as a weak point in our defense, and
- 35:23Speaker 5: they're using this opportunity to try to sneak in.
- 35:27Speaker 8: NBC News was first to report on a similar arrest
- 35:30Speaker 8: of a newsback man in Baltimore whose country alerted the
- 35:33Speaker 8: US he was affiliated with ISIS. That man, like the
- 35:36Speaker 8: others apprehended so far, was arrested on immigration charges, not
- 35:40Speaker 8: terrorism related charges. ISIS k has claimed responsibility for deadly
- 35:44Speaker 8: terror attacks in Russia and Iran in the past year,
- 35:48Speaker 8: and recently, the DHS Inspector General sharply criticizing vetting at
- 35:52Speaker 8: the US southern border, saying DHS is at risk of
- 35:55Speaker 8: admitting dangerous persons into the country or enabling asylum seekers
- 35:59Speaker 8: who may pot significant threats to public safety and national
- 36:03Speaker 8: security to continue to reside in the United States. Two
- 36:06Speaker 8: senior law enforcement officials told NBC News they are not
- 36:09Speaker 8: tracking a terror plot from this group of migrants, but
- 36:12Speaker 8: their arrest on immigration charges come out of an abundance
- 36:15Speaker 8: of caution.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Lester, They sure do you like that word center, abundance
- 36:19Speaker 2: of caution? I also love in there. That one line
- 36:23Speaker 2: that really just made me laugh is quote authorities are
- 36:26Speaker 2: quote not panicking. Really that's supposed to make me feel better.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Well remarkably, though, what they're not panicking about is not
- 36:36Speaker 4: the actual public safety threat. It's not keeping Americans safe.
- 36:40Speaker 4: It's the political exposure. They're freaked out because there's an
- 36:45Speaker 4: election in a few months and they realize, oh no,
- 36:48Speaker 4: this could look really bad for us. It has been
- 36:52Speaker 4: the consistent pattern of this White House that they do
- 36:55Speaker 4: not prioritize national security. Everything everything, everything is partisan politics,
- 37:00Speaker 4: and Okay, what I'm about to say, it's not hyperbole.
- 37:05Speaker 4: It is accurate day after day, week after week, month
- 37:10Speaker 4: after month. For three and a half years, Joe Biden
- 37:12Speaker 4: the Democrats have released illegal immigrants who are murderers, who
- 37:18Speaker 4: are rapists, who are child molesters, who are gang members,
- 37:22Speaker 4: and who are being smuggled in by isis K, a
- 37:28Speaker 4: known terrorist organization, and they're letting them go. They're letting
- 37:34Speaker 4: them go the four hundred notice notice in that NBC
- 37:36Speaker 4: report they said they were released by the Biden administration.
- 37:40Speaker 4: So we apprehended them, said, oh, look, isis K bringing
- 37:43Speaker 4: someone in? All right, let's let them go? Like that
- 37:46Speaker 4: is it defies words. And if there were not an
- 37:53Speaker 4: election in five months, I don't think the Biden administration
- 37:56Speaker 4: would be doing anything at all about it. This is
- 37:58Speaker 4: all about cover it up until after election day and
- 38:02Speaker 4: then we can let them go again. And I don't
- 38:05Speaker 4: get Actually, I do not understand the thought process. If
- 38:10Speaker 4: you're Alejandro Mayorcus help me on this, Ben, Seriously, if
- 38:14Speaker 4: you're Alejandro Mayorcis, You're like, hey, four hundred people, isis
- 38:17Speaker 4: case smuggled in?
- 38:18Speaker 3: Should we let them go? Like?
- 38:20Speaker 4: What is how do the brain synapses fire for your
- 38:24Speaker 4: answer to be yep, let them go.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 2: And the scary part is I think they just say
- 38:29Speaker 2: this is just part of that. You've got to take
- 38:31Speaker 2: the bad with the good, and their definition of good
- 38:34Speaker 2: is letting millions in. So, hey, we know there's gonna
- 38:37Speaker 2: be bad actors in those millions. We can't check them
- 38:39Speaker 2: all out fast enough as we're allowing them to flood
- 38:42Speaker 2: into this country. So that's just our policy. There may
- 38:45Speaker 2: be terrorists to get in here. Oh wait, there are
- 38:47Speaker 2: terrorists to get in here. We know there's people on
- 38:49Speaker 2: the terrorists watch list, and we're just gonna do it anyway.
- 38:51Speaker 2: But right before the election, we're going to clean it
- 38:53Speaker 2: up a little bit and look like we're being proactive.
- 38:57Speaker 4: I've said this multiple times, but I very much believe it.
- 39:00Speaker 4: We are today at a greater risk of a major
- 39:03Speaker 4: terrorist attack than we have been any time since September eleventh,
- 39:07Speaker 4: and the director of the FBI has been saying that
- 39:11Speaker 4: over and over and over again in congressional testimony. What
- 39:15Speaker 4: the FBI is looking at, I'm confident, is even worse
- 39:19Speaker 4: than what we're talking about. And that is the direct
- 39:24Speaker 4: consequence of utterly reckless policies of open borders, and to
- 39:29Speaker 4: tie this to what we started at the beginning. I
- 39:32Speaker 4: think this should be front and center what Trump is
- 39:35Speaker 4: talking about tonight at the debate.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I was going to ask you that was gonna be
- 39:38Speaker 2: my final question for you is if CNN doesn't bring
- 39:42Speaker 2: it up, do you force the issue if because I
- 39:44Speaker 2: have a feeling they're going to be playing defense for
- 39:47Speaker 2: Joe Biden. So does the president go all in on
- 39:49Speaker 2: these type of issues even if they don't bring them up.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Yes, yes, absolutely, yes.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Bring it up. No matter what, I love it.
- 39:58Speaker 2: We're going to be obviously giving you guys, guys a
- 40:00Speaker 2: lot of reaction to debate.
