- 1:24Speaker 1: Now my next guest because she's calling it California. My
- 1:28Speaker 1: next guest is a professional endurance athlete. Like I told you,
- 1:31Speaker 1: if you are to shape, listen up. These people are
- 1:34Speaker 1: in shape and uh she's a two time Guinness World
- 1:38Speaker 1: record holder for most marathons completed in the calendar year.
- 1:42Speaker 1: She's also a model, an author. Please work with the
- 1:45Speaker 1: money making conversations landa holder. Hi, thank you for having me.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And I wasn't I wasn't kidding about this because we go.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Really I want, I want to have fun. And first
- 1:57Speaker 1: of all, I respect what you do because you to
- 2:00Speaker 1: a guy that, uh that I treadmill in my house,
- 2:03Speaker 1: My wife gets on it, and I'll just look at her.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I go, yeah, you really doing a girl? You keep
- 2:09Speaker 1: you keep doing it now and so and then a
- 2:12Speaker 1: friend of mine, you know, the phones across the room.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I walked briskly over there to pick up the phone,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and they go, what you're doing, man, what you're doing.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm embarrassed to tell him I just walked over there
- 2:21Speaker 1: because I'm out of breath, breathing hall. I'm embarrassed to
- 2:24Speaker 1: tell him I just walked across the room, not like
- 2:26Speaker 1: I got a big house to pick up the phone.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And I gotta I gotta catch my breath. And so,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and I'm the type of person are a lot of
- 2:34Speaker 1: people tell me I'm in shape. I look like I'm
- 2:36Speaker 1: in shape. So when I look at a person like you,
- 2:39Speaker 1: let's break down the word endurance athletes. Please explain to
- 2:43Speaker 1: my listeners what exactly is an endurance athlete. And endurance
- 2:48Speaker 1: athlete is someone who goes beyond um beyond just go
- 2:54Speaker 1: way beyond of a five k. A five k is
- 2:59Speaker 1: three months else, ultra marathon is anything more than a
- 3:03Speaker 1: marathon is uh tony six point two miles or more,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and so an endurance athlete is one that can go
- 3:13Speaker 1: the distance, go beyond what is typically a normal workout
- 3:18Speaker 1: or a normeral event. Um I have done. I got
- 3:23Speaker 1: my first Guinnis in two thousand and ten, I broke
- 3:27Speaker 1: an eight year record. Or Lady over in Italy she
- 3:30Speaker 1: ran a hundred marathons in the calendar year and she ran,
- 3:36Speaker 1: she ran, but she ran. And so I'm a power walker.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So that power walker is not even walking, So you
- 3:43Speaker 1: know you are, you still way better than me. I'm
- 3:45Speaker 1: not even tiptone so well, a lot of a lot
- 3:49Speaker 1: of people don't realize that you can lose a lot
- 3:52Speaker 1: of weight power walking the same as you can running,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and just that with power walking is that you're out
- 4:01Speaker 1: there just a little bit longer. But if you keep
- 4:03Speaker 1: the form, your posture and add a little speed to it,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you can really go the distance. I'm actually, like I said,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I've done a hundred and six marathons in one year,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and most of those were not just marathons, they were
- 4:18Speaker 1: also ultras, which that's where the endurance comes in because
- 4:22Speaker 1: walkers are out there a lot longer than what marathoners
- 4:26Speaker 1: are runners, and so um, people don't realize that that
- 4:31Speaker 1: you could do a whole lot more with walking, and
- 4:34Speaker 1: it's healthier for you, it's easier on the body than
- 4:37Speaker 1: what runnings and so um, but yeah, that's what I
- 4:41Speaker 1: do on endurance athletes. And that's let's now let's talk
- 4:46Speaker 1: about when you look. Like I said, things happen in life.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Like I said, I was reading your bio and said
- 4:51Speaker 1: that when you turned fifty, you wanted to challenge yourself
- 4:54Speaker 1: to do something different in your life. So before you
- 4:58Speaker 1: so this was like a challenge to you personally, you
- 5:00Speaker 1: know you like you said your resume, you have grown children.
- 5:04Speaker 1: He was just so, what what? What what made you
- 5:06Speaker 1: gravitate towards power walking? And first of all, tell everybody
- 5:10Speaker 1: what exactly is power walking? Power Walking is, um, is
- 5:15Speaker 1: different from race walking. Racewalking is in the Olympics, and
- 5:18Speaker 1: racewalking is judged. But you have judges out there and
- 5:22Speaker 1: to judge your form. Well, Um, I started off race
- 5:28Speaker 1: walking and I kept getting just qualified because I couldn't
- 5:30Speaker 1: get the form correctly. So I decided to do my
- 5:34Speaker 1: own things power walking. And I like what you said,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I couldn't get that form right, So I say, well,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I cannot get it right, and I kept getting disqualified
- 5:46Speaker 1: at him, so I decided to just do my own things.
- 5:50Speaker 1: So with power walking, you're not judged, and so therefore
- 5:54Speaker 1: you don't have to keep the form or whatever, and
- 5:57Speaker 1: therefore you could just do your own thing. So I
- 6:00Speaker 1: chose to call myself a power walker. And race walkers
- 6:03Speaker 1: don't like it if you call yourself a race walker
- 6:05Speaker 1: and you're not join the form, because it takes away
- 6:07Speaker 1: from them because they were. It's really hard. It's actually
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'm I'm trying to practice it now to get that
- 6:14Speaker 1: form back. But but just walking in general is a
- 6:21Speaker 1: whole lot easier on your body than what it is.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Really Just really let people know the significance of what
- 6:29Speaker 1: we're talking about. In twelve, you determined to set your
- 6:33Speaker 1: your your second Guinness World Worker. I guess you completed
- 6:36Speaker 1: a hundred and twenty events. You Paul walk three one
- 6:40Speaker 1: hundreds okay to fifty forty forty nine fifty ks Now
- 6:49Speaker 1: fifty ks is thirty one miles in seventy five marathons,
- 6:55Speaker 1: which is twenty six miles in one year. See, I
- 6:58Speaker 1: want to you know, before people, what do you talking about? Walking?
- 7:01Speaker 1: And I was, who is she? Okay, let me just
- 7:03Speaker 1: tell you again what she did in now get this
- 7:06Speaker 1: book of records. She walked three one hundred mile racist
- 7:12Speaker 1: to fifty miles forty thirty one miles. I'm not gonna say,
- 7:18Speaker 1: because nobody knows the fifty k means forty and seventy
- 7:23Speaker 1: five marathons with just twenty six miles in one year. Bam,
- 7:28Speaker 1: as she said, I'm an athlete now I am. I yeah,
- 7:35Speaker 1: because when I did the one and six um, I
- 7:38Speaker 1: didn't get enough respect, and so I had to come
- 7:42Speaker 1: back and say, okay, check this out. All right, I've
- 7:45Speaker 1: done three one milers all of these fifty caves. Stop stop,
- 7:51Speaker 1: stop stop? Okay, okay, this is a hundred miles. You walking,
- 7:55Speaker 1: file walking? What are you doing? Well? Do what? What
- 8:00Speaker 1: are you taking? Breaks? Or you can you just stand
- 8:02Speaker 1: in place and go to cheek for leg, get some food?
- 8:05Speaker 1: What are you doing for a hundred miles? I'm sorry
- 8:09Speaker 1: you get three of them. I hate driving a hundred miles.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You know, if I go sixty miles an hour, that's
- 8:15Speaker 1: an hour and a half. Okay, you're walking, You're out
- 8:20Speaker 1: there welling, bad weather, auto motive issues, bathroom issues. What
- 8:25Speaker 1: are you doing for a hundred miles and you decided
- 8:28Speaker 1: to do it? Three times. Please don't come on my
- 8:31Speaker 1: show acting like dit some casual conversation. Thank you, well
- 8:39Speaker 1: when you're hung about, no, you you do stop to
- 8:43Speaker 1: go to the bathroom, Thank you, thank you. You're walking
- 8:46Speaker 1: with some astronaut diapers on saying what are you doing
- 8:50Speaker 1: out there? Pampers chafe behind baby powder? What's going on here?
- 8:56Speaker 1: For a hundred miles? You make your us Okay, let's
- 9:05Speaker 1: let's get you're so funny, you know we okay when
- 9:09Speaker 1: you're doing a hundred mile events, yes, um, do stop
- 9:14Speaker 1: to go to the bathroom. You do eat? Okay? Can
- 9:17Speaker 1: you run in place to be a Chick fil A
- 9:19Speaker 1: getting that Chick fil late sandwich? You know I'm walking
- 9:22Speaker 1: in place. You know I'm in the drive drive through?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Does that count? Because your boy gonna get hungry and
- 9:28Speaker 1: a hundred miles I'm gonna need Mortis and waters and
- 9:30Speaker 1: gathererade in a hundred miles. Let you know, miss Holder,
- 9:36Speaker 1: the race director will have a spread of food and
- 9:39Speaker 1: you won't buy a graph sandwich. They will go to
- 9:43Speaker 1: we'll go to Sister L and pick you up. But
- 9:49Speaker 1: you keep running, you keep walking, You don't leave the course.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I'm just trying to figure this out as a long
- 9:57Speaker 1: way left. We're gonna be back with me, and you
- 9:59Speaker 1: get yourself together, young lady. You know I'm serious. You
- 10:02Speaker 1: know I'm trying to find out I could be an
- 10:03Speaker 1: endurance race and you're just laughing, having a good time
- 10:07Speaker 1: and never been interviewing like nobody like this before this
- 10:09Speaker 1: Rashane McDonald with a marathon get his book World Record walker,
- 10:14Speaker 1: coming right back, Hi, this ra Sean McDonald. You're listening
- 10:19Speaker 1: to money making conversations. I am the host on the phone,
- 10:23Speaker 1: as you're long the holder. You're still there. I'm still here,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and let me just set the record straight because see
- 10:31Speaker 1: this this caused about respect, and like I said, because
- 10:34Speaker 1: you have to fight for respect. You like that walking
- 10:36Speaker 1: out all over the place. So in twelve she got
- 10:39Speaker 1: some respect, you know, instead of second getness book, Get
- 10:42Speaker 1: his World record, where she Paul walked three one hundred
- 10:46Speaker 1: miles to fifty millars forty fifty cages, which is thirty
- 10:51Speaker 1: or one miles when you are four. She did it
- 10:53Speaker 1: forty times in one year, and seventy five marathons in
- 10:56Speaker 1: one year, and as herbio says, Bam in your faint runners,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you're landa now. World champion walker and an athlete. Yes,
- 11:06Speaker 1: that put you on the map, didn't you? Girl? Tell
- 11:08Speaker 1: us about how you felt about that when you got
- 11:09Speaker 1: put on the map. You know, like, well, actually that
- 11:13Speaker 1: didn't really put me on the map. We want to hear. No, no,
- 11:18Speaker 1: no, no no, not compared to what I'm getting ready to
- 11:20Speaker 1: tell you now. I did last year hold your horses
- 11:25Speaker 1: last year more Self Transcendent thirty one hundred mile race.
- 11:31Speaker 1: And that was in New York, in Jamaica, Queens, New
- 11:34Speaker 1: York last year from June seventeenth through August eight, for
- 11:38Speaker 1: fifty two straight days. Let me say it again, for
- 11:42Speaker 1: fifty two straight days, sixty miles a day for fifty
- 11:49Speaker 1: two straight days to reach thirty one miles? Was big broke?
- 11:55Speaker 1: Was your fit? Big broke? Outter? That did you break
- 11:58Speaker 1: your fitth bit over six million steps? Had it all?
- 12:08Speaker 1: I know she had a fit there. I had a
- 12:09Speaker 1: fit there, sex girl, Like, that's like it being in Vegas.
- 12:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. People out there crying, they
- 12:20Speaker 1: crying this you're you're amazing And this is why, this
- 12:24Speaker 1: is why I wanted to get you on the cause
- 12:26Speaker 1: I personally you're linked in We're linked in uh friends,
- 12:30Speaker 1: and so I saw her. I've been following watching her,
- 12:33Speaker 1: you know, all these little amazing thing I said, you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I gotta have her on my show. And then people said,
- 12:37Speaker 1: why is she on the show about entrepreneurship? Why you
- 12:40Speaker 1: don't show about you know, entertainment. You know, it's about
- 12:43Speaker 1: the balance life, it's about people, it's about goal setting.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And that's what this is all about, you know, is
- 12:48Speaker 1: that you know you you saw a new challenge your
- 12:51Speaker 1: life at the age of fifty. And I always tell
- 12:53Speaker 1: people you at any age, you can do something special
- 12:56Speaker 1: in your life. And a lot of people tend to
- 12:58Speaker 1: think that they get at a certain age, is it
- 13:01Speaker 1: you know? I I I'm trying to get to sixty
- 13:04Speaker 1: five to get that check that's so security check. And
- 13:06Speaker 1: that's not your that's not your vision because you you're
- 13:09Speaker 1: motivated to empower people. Correct in, Linda, correct And let
- 13:14Speaker 1: me say this. Your health is your wealth because without it,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you can't do what you do. And I lost my
- 13:22Speaker 1: mom only five years ago, and that's how Extreme Walk
- 13:26Speaker 1: for Diabetes was born. UM I walked the first year
- 13:31Speaker 1: from um beautiful Lagola Beach, California to the San Francisco
- 13:36Speaker 1: go to gay Bridge to bring awareness about the benefits
- 13:39Speaker 1: of walking in your health and not only consumes diabetes,
- 13:44Speaker 1: but all diseases. And so I'm doing the fifty to
- 13:48Speaker 1: thirty one hundred mile race again just coming June um
- 13:53Speaker 1: and I'll be there going around that block of five thousand,
- 13:56Speaker 1: sixty nine times to reach thirty one hundred miles. And
- 14:00Speaker 1: I have a challenge, and I had challenge everyone to walk,
- 14:04Speaker 1: run by hot skip, jump, do whatever a mile or
- 14:09Speaker 1: more every day for fifty two days while I'm out
- 14:12Speaker 1: there doing sixty miles a day for people to straight days.
- 14:16Speaker 1: And you can go on my website if I could
- 14:18Speaker 1: say that you want to Holder dot com and sign
- 14:20Speaker 1: up and join the challenge. I tell people it's the
- 14:24Speaker 1: longest fitness party in the world. And um, but yeah,
- 14:30Speaker 1: your health is your wealth and without if you can't
- 14:32Speaker 1: do what you do. I always tell people this. Think
- 14:35Speaker 1: about when you have the flu and you're laying up
- 14:40Speaker 1: in bed and now it's the first day or two,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you're kind of like a little bit happy that you
- 14:45Speaker 1: don't have to go to work. You know, you don't
- 14:47Speaker 1: have to really take care of the kids. You know,
- 14:49Speaker 1: the husband gonna take care of that you can relax
- 14:51Speaker 1: for a minute. Now you're on day three and day four,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and then you're like saying yourself, oh, shoot, work is
- 14:57Speaker 1: piled enough, the house is a man. I got stuff
- 15:01Speaker 1: that I need to do. I want to get better.
- 15:03Speaker 1: We'll think about that. If you're laying up in the hospital,
- 15:06Speaker 1: you're sick, you can't do what you you do. You know,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you can't make any money, but your health is your
- 15:11Speaker 1: is your wealth. That's what I tell people. And then also,
- 15:15Speaker 1: the human body is so capable of doing things that
- 15:20Speaker 1: that's unmanageable. You know, you just you can't believe or
- 15:24Speaker 1: imagine what the human body can do. And people ask me,
- 15:27Speaker 1: and I don't listen to music or my iPad or
- 15:29Speaker 1: or anything when I'm out there doing those hundred miles
- 15:32Speaker 1: and uh, those fifty k's because I'm praying. I'm praying
- 15:36Speaker 1: and I'm grateful that God gave me talent. At this age,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I will be sixty may aight, and um, I'll be sixty, yes,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and I'm still going and I'm still setting records and
- 15:49Speaker 1: breaking records and it's amazing. Congratulations on that being sixty,
- 15:55Speaker 1: and you look fantastic and more think more importantly, I
- 15:58Speaker 1: don't think you You tell us your age, but it
- 16:00Speaker 1: doesn't matter to you. That's what I like about your
- 16:03Speaker 1: tone in it. I'm just sixty. I'm I got more
- 16:05Speaker 1: things I gotta do on this planet. And I'm not
- 16:08Speaker 1: sitting down. I'm not setting a deadline when I'm supposed
- 16:10Speaker 1: to stop and relax because you're living your life. You're praying.
- 16:13Speaker 1: It's motivation that you know. It's gold setting. Now this
- 16:17Speaker 1: race here, there's fifty two days. You said you're telling
- 16:20Speaker 1: because you're challenging me. Now I hear very clear, misholder,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you when I'm out the June seventeenth to August seven,
- 16:29Speaker 1: push your wife off that treadmill and get your ladies
- 16:33Speaker 1: behind on there. Because your health is your wealth. That's
- 16:36Speaker 1: what you told me. That's what you told I really clear.
- 16:40Speaker 1: You know your health is your wealth. So you want
- 16:42Speaker 1: me to do a mile a day, and you know
- 16:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna walk because you know your boy ain't gonna run.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna walk a mile, and so this is what
- 16:50Speaker 1: we're gonna do. I'm gonna ask you this when you're
- 16:52Speaker 1: out there walking, do you have a goal, prol on
- 16:54Speaker 1: your head? Anything? So we can just see this lie
- 16:57Speaker 1: while you're going on that block. You need to have
- 16:58Speaker 1: a goal pro on your head's on yours somewhere so
- 17:02Speaker 1: we can just see it. Just let it run for
- 17:04Speaker 1: sixty miles every day. You think I'm crazy if I'm
- 17:07Speaker 1: telling you need to go pro out there. We need
- 17:09Speaker 1: to make raise some money for this this campaign that
- 17:11Speaker 1: you're doing. And I know you're successful because you've been
- 17:14Speaker 1: doing it, but are you do how do you promote
- 17:17Speaker 1: it on social media? How do you promote it on
- 17:20Speaker 1: your website? Is any live streaming being done out there?
- 17:24Speaker 1: This is fantastic. I'm amazed by you and I'm a
- 17:27Speaker 1: big fan. Thank you. Yes, if they will have Life
- 17:32Speaker 1: of stream eighteen hours a day. The race starts at
- 17:35Speaker 1: six am and we have until midnight to do our
- 17:38Speaker 1: sixty miles and yes you can see us live uh
- 17:42Speaker 1: for the whole eighteen hours. And um yes, I am
- 17:46Speaker 1: looking for sponsors. It is very expensive to do this race.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I'll be away from home from California for two and
- 17:52Speaker 1: a half months in so if you would like to
- 17:55Speaker 1: answer me or take the challenge, you can go on
- 17:59Speaker 1: my website along the hold the dot com and it
- 18:01Speaker 1: has all the information there. But yes, and I will
- 18:04Speaker 1: be going live uh every morning for about five minutes
- 18:09Speaker 1: Facebook Live. You go, you gotta do more in five minutes,
- 18:12Speaker 1: you gotta. I'm gonna get your go pro. We're gonna
- 18:14Speaker 1: strap it on your head and people gonna see you
- 18:17Speaker 1: walk around that block and then we don't know you're
- 18:20Speaker 1: doing it for me because a lot of people don't believe.
- 18:21Speaker 1: That's why I have have to bring you on the show.
- 18:24Speaker 1: In the studio, all doing this interview, my staff look around, Marathon.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I started busting out the numbers. They got tired. They
- 18:34Speaker 1: started looking at each other, going, whoa are you serious?
- 18:37Speaker 1: They started coming around people over my shoulder. Heat line,
- 18:40Speaker 1: heat line. No, you're telling the truth. You're an athlete,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and so much so you you turned into a passionate
- 18:46Speaker 1: extreme walk for diabetes. It's a fifty two days challenge
- 18:50Speaker 1: June seventeenth through August seven. You're challenging everybody while you're
