- 0:00John Chapter 16 These things I have spoken to you so that you
- 0:05may be kept from stumbling. They will make you outcast from
- 0:08the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills
- 0:11you to think that He is offering service to God.
- 0:14These things they will do because they have not known the
- 0:15Father or me. But these things I've spoken to
- 0:18you so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I
- 0:21told you of them. These things I did not say to
- 0:23you at the beginning, because I was with you, but now I'm going
- 0:26to Him who sent me. And none of you asked me where
- 0:29are you going? But because I have said these
- 0:31things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
- 0:33But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go
- 0:36away. For if I do not go away, the
- 0:39helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to
- 0:42you. And He, when He comes, will
- 0:44convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment,
- 0:48concerning sin because they do not believe in Me, and
- 0:51concerning righteousness because I go to the Father, and you no
- 0:54longer see Me, and concerning judgment because the ruler of
- 0:57this world has been judged. I have many more things to say
- 1:00to you, but you cannot bear them now.
- 1:02But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you
- 1:05into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own
- 1:07initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak, and He
- 1:11will disclose to you what is to come.
- 1:13He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose
- 1:16it to you. All things that the Father has
- 1:19are Mine. Therefore I said that He takes
- 1:21of Mine and will disclose it to you a little while, and you will
- 1:25no longer see me. And again a little while, and
- 1:28you will see me. Some of his disciples then said
- 1:30to one another, What is this thing He is telling us?
- 1:33A little while, and you will not see me.
- 1:35And again a little while, and you will see me.
- 1:37And because I go to the Father. So they were saying, What is
- 1:40this that he says a little while?
- 1:42We do not know what he is talking about.
- 1:45Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and he said to
- 1:48them, Are you deliberating together about this?
- 1:51That I said a little while and you will not see me.
- 1:53And again a little while and you will see me truly, truly.
- 1:56I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will
- 2:00rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief
- 2:03will be turned into joy. Whenever a woman is in labor,
- 2:06she has pain because her hour has come, but when she gives
- 2:09birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish
- 2:12because of the joy that a child has been born into the world.
- 2:15Therefore you too have grief now, but I will see you again,
- 2:19and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away
- 2:22from you. In that day you will not
- 2:24question Me about anything truly.
- 2:26Truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My
- 2:29name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked for
- 2:32nothing in My name. Ask and you will receive, so
- 2:35that your joy may be made full. These things I have spoken to
- 2:39you in figurative language. An hour is coming when I will no
- 2:41longer speak to you in figurative language, but will
- 2:44tell you plainly of the Father. In that day you will ask in My
- 2:47name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the
- 2:50Father on your behalf, for the Father himself loves you,
- 2:53because you have loved me and have believed that I came forth
- 2:56from the Father. I came forth from the Father and
- 2:59have come into the world. I am leaving the world again and
- 3:02going to the Father. His disciples said, Lo, now you
- 3:05are speaking plainly and are not using a figure of speech.
- 3:08Now we know that you know all things and have no need for
- 3:11anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came
- 3:14from God. Jesus answered them, Do you now
- 3:17believe? Behold, an hour is coming and
- 3:20has already come for you to be scattered, each to his own home,
- 3:24and to leave me alone. And yet I am not alone, because
- 3:28the Father is with me. These things I have spoken to
- 3:30you, so that in me you may have peace.
- 3:33In the world you have tribulation, but take courage.
- 3:37I have overcome the world.
