- 0:00Acts, chapter 8. Saul was in hearty agreement
- 0:03with putting him to death, and on that day a great persecution
- 0:06began against the church in Jerusalem.
- 0:08They were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea
- 0:10and Samaria, except the apostles.
- 0:13Some devout men buried Stephen and made loud lamentation over
- 0:16him. But Saul began ravaging the
- 0:18church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and
- 0:21women. He would put them in prison.
- 0:24Therefore those who had been scattered went about preaching
- 0:26the word Philip, went down to the city of Samaria and began
- 0:29proclaiming Christ to them. The crowds with 1 accord were
- 0:33giving attention to what was said by Philip as they heard and
- 0:36saw the signs which he was performing.
- 0:38For in the case of many who had unclean spirits, they were
- 0:41coming out of them shouting with a loud voice, and many who had
- 0:44been paralyzed and lame were healed.
- 0:46So there was much rejoicing in that city.
- 0:48Now there was a man named Simon who formerly was practicing
- 0:51magic in the city and astonishing the people of
- 0:53Samaria claiming to be someone great.
- 0:56And they all, from smallest to greatest were giving attention
- 0:58to him, saying this man is what is called the great power of
- 1:01God. And they were giving him
- 1:03attention because he had for a long time astonished them with
- 1:06his magic arts. When they believed Philip
- 1:08preaching the good news about the Kingdom of God in the name
- 1:11of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.
- 1:14Even Simon himself believed. And after being baptized he
- 1:17continued on with Philip as he observed signs and great
- 1:20miracles taking place. He was constantly amazed.
- 1:24Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
- 1:26received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who
- 1:29came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy
- 1:32Spirit, for he had not yet fallen upon any of them.
- 1:35They had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- 1:38Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were
- 1:40receiving the Holy Spirit. Now when Simon saw that the
- 1:43Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles hands,
- 1:46he offered them money, saying, Give this authority to me as
- 1:49well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the
- 1:52Holy Spirit. But Peter said to him, May your
- 1:55silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the
- 1:58gift of God with money. You have no part or portion in
- 2:01this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
- 2:04Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray
- 2:06the Lord, that if possible, the intention of your heart may be
- 2:09forgiven you. For I see that you are in the
- 2:11gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.
- 2:14But Simon answered and said, Pray to the Lord for me
- 2:16yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon
- 2:19me. So when they had solemnly
- 2:21testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to
- 2:23Jerusalem and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the
- 2:26Samaritans. But an Angel of the Lord spoke
- 2:29to Philip, saying, Get up and go South to the road that descends
- 2:32from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert Rd.
- 2:35So he got up and went, And there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court
- 2:39official of Candace, queen of The Ethiopians, who was in
- 2:42charge of all her treasure. And he had come to Jerusalem to
- 2:44worship. And he was returning and sitting
- 2:47in his chariot and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
- 2:50Then the Spirit said to Philip, go up and join this chariot.
- 2:53Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and
- 2:56said, Do you understand what you're reading?
- 2:59And he said, well, how could I unless someone guides me?
- 3:02And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
- 3:05Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this.
- 3:08He was led as a sheep to slaughter, and as a lamb before
- 3:11its Shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth in
- 3:14humiliation. His judgement was taken away.
- 3:17Who will relate his generation, for his life is removed from the
- 3:21earth? The eunuch answered Philip and
- 3:23said, Please tell me of whom does the prophet say this?
- 3:26Of himself or of someone else? Then Philip opened his mouth and
- 3:29beginning from the scripture, he preached Jesus to him.
- 3:33As they went along the road, they came to some water.
- 3:35And the eunuch said, look water, what prevents me from being
- 3:38baptized? And Philip said, if you believe
- 3:41with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I
- 3:43believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
- 3:46And he ordered the chariot to stop, and they both went down
- 3:49into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized
- 3:52him. When they came up out of the
- 3:54water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, and the
- 3:57eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.
- 4:00But Philip found himself at Azutus, and as he passed through
- 4:04he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to
- 4:07Caesarea.
